Using Virtual Reconstruction Methods And The Technologies
Abstract In my art history class, we studied Rome Reborn, a 3D digital model of illustrating the urban
development of ancient Rome. I thought it could be tied nicely into our understanding new media,
more specifically how the use of virtual reconstruction methods and the technologies are cultural and
historical customs. A virtual reconstruction, as a simulation, could be seen as accurately imitating the
past and it may also be comprehended as a model constituting a hyperreality. These two perspectives
are regarded as opposite ends of a spectrum in which the comprehension of a simulation sways due to
the embedded conventions of realism. While not arguing a fixed position, this paper argues that above
all a simulation should be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rome Reborn (RR) s objective is to create scientific 3D digital models that illustrate the development
of the city of Rome from the first settlement in the late Bronze Ages to the dramatic depopulation of
the city in the early middle Ages ca. 552 AD (Frischer, 2) However, the project team started modeling
at the moment of 320 AD because at that time Rome is considered to be at the height of its urban
development. Since 2007, the project team of RR has been releasing and distributing images and
videos of the virtual reconstruction on the web for public viewing. After all, a goal of archaeology is
to present their interpretations of the ancient remains. According to Frischer, the videos present the
current stage of the virtual reconstruction of ancient Rome s urban development in 320 AD, even
including animations as casual as civilians strolling through buildings to something as exciting as
gladiators fighting at the Coliseum. Every time a new walk through is released, it results in numerous
and mainly encouraging, comments from the public; This is how beautiful Rome once looked!
(Vimeo) and Just amazing!! Rome looked incredible and beautiful!! (Vimeo) Based on such feedback,
people are mostly concerned with the correctness and accuracy of the representational qualities of the
city. However, ancient Rome does not exist anymore and

Lady Chatterly s Lover and A Clockwork Orange
Introduction
Banning books is a legally approved censorship of a text or a body of works, varying from nation to
nation and, mainly, within different periods. It is closely associated with social conventions such as
moral, religious or political attitudes, which shift over time, and thus re evaluate art. D.H Lawrence
Lady Chatterly s Lover and Anthony Burgess A Clockwork Orange are known for their notoriety in
different moments of the twentieth century, because they as well were part of certain definitions of
culture and associated cultural values.
D.H Lawrence: Lady Chatterly s Lover (1928)
Lawrence s novel is a story about a sexual relationship between two members of different class
systems, with sexually explicit descriptions, and words such as fuck or cunt (LCL, pp.46, 320). Thus,
in the first half of the twentieth century, the book was considered offensive or unsuitable for the
public. The character of Lady Chatterley, through an affair with a gamekeeper Oliver, rediscovers her
sexuality, and makes some realisations about her mental and physical needs. In the crude language,
Lawrence captured something new and challenging to the public consensus on a decent culture.
Consequently, a trial of 1960 under the Obscene Publications Act 1959 meant a break with old values,
allowing the book to be viewed as a text of a literary merit, and recognising wider changes of social
norms. It coincided with beginnings of the sexual revolution, greater freedoms in publishing and

Using this newly acquired capability for product design, the singapore facility then set about
redesigning other products it produced. HP s corporate managers were so impressed with the progress
made at the factory, they transferred pproduction of the entire calculator line to singapore in 1983.
This wa followed by the partial transfer of ink jet production to singapore in 1984 and keyboard
production in 1986. In all cases, the facility redesigned the products and often reduced unit
manufacturing costs by more than 30 percent. The initial development and design of all these
products, however, still occured in the united states.
In the late 1980s and early 1990s, the singapore plant started to take on added responsibilities,
particularly in the ink jet printer business. In 1990, the factory was given the job of redesigning an HP
ink jet printer for Japanese market. Although the initial product redesign was a market failure, the
managers at singapore pushed to allowed to try again, and in 1991 they were given the job of
redesigning HP s DeskJet 505 printer for the japanese market.
This time the redesigned product was a succes designs, garnering significant sales in Japan.
Emboldened by this success, the plant has continued t take on additional design responsibilities.
Today, it is viewed as a lead plant within HP s global network, with primary responsibility not just for

Sonny And The Rocket Boys Research Paper
In October Skys, Sonny and the Rocket Boys faced nearly impossible odds and persevered through all
of the obstacles they encounter. They were truly amazing young boys with courage, determination,
and a will to do what they had their minds set on no matter what life threw at them.
One of the obstacles that Sonny faced was the trial and error process that happened when Sonny and
the rest of the rocket boys were launching their rockets. Many of their rockets flew off course at
people, cars, and buildings, which had many people thinking that the boys should not be allowed to
launch their rockets. Another thing that happened during the trial and error process was that many of
their rockets blew up before ever lifting off of the ground. These problems made them have to find out
what went wrong and would make them spend hours trying to fix the problem. They did get through
these problems that they encountered. Sonny had a couple of friends at the mine that his dad worked

that his brother wouldn t have to give up his football scholarship. Since Sonny was at work in the
mine, he couldn t build rockets anymore, so the rocket boys stopped building rockets. Once Sonny s
father had recovered from his injuries and was able to get back to work, Sonny told his dad that the
mining life was not for him, and he decided to go back and finish high school. Sonny and the rocket
boys started to build rockets again and went to the national science fair where they won first place.
The cave in was by far the worst obstacle the boys had to face. They persevered though, opening up a

Migraines Essay
Migraine headaches are the result of a disturbance in the neurochemistry of the central nervous
system. They are relatively common, affecting three times as many women as men. Migraine sufferers
typically report a definite pattern to their headaches, and they can report what stimuli bring them on.
Most migraine sufferers experience their first attack before the age of 20. There is no single cause of
migraines, but the tendency to get migraines does tend to run in families. When a migraine occurs, it
means that something has altered several of the neurotransmitter sensitive receptors located on the
outside surface of the nerve cells (neurons) so that the nervous system is no longer able to constantly
maintain the natural balance that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Scientists suspect that a caffeine withdrawal could be the possible cause of common migraines. Why?
Well, caffeine is a powerful psychoactive drug that is addictive. Caffeine withdrawals produce all the
same symptoms as migraine. Chronic caffeine use causes a number of changes to the central nervous
system. Caffeine use increases the number of some types of serotonin receptors and some types of
adenosine receptors as well.
Adenosine is another neurotransmitter; adenosine strongly inhibits serotonin release. Chronic caffeine
use increases the number of adenosine receptors.(The body is trying to compensate for the constant
presence of caffeine, which occupies and blockades adenosine receptors and thus interferes with
adenosine reception.) When caffeine is withdrawn, however, the chronic caffeine user is left with too
many adenosine receptors. Having too many adenosine receptors is equivalent to having too much
adenosine. As a result, serotonin release is inhibited and this leads to migraine symptoms.
As you know there are many drugs used against migraine. Many of these drugs contain caffeine, for
good reason: caffeine relieves migraine by reversing caffeine withdrawal. Migraine drugs that contain
caffeine include Fiorinal (40mg caffeine), Fioricet (40mg caffeine), Excedrin (65mg caffeine), Anacin
(32mg caffeine), Cafergot, Norgesic Forte (60mg caffeine), and others.

Internship Report On Skid Internship
Final Report
In all honesty, I did not know what to expect when heading into this internship. I knew my boss on a
personal level being that he is my brother in law but I only had brief experiences working alongside
him and his employees. The very first day Derek, my employer made his expectations loud and clear
he was to have 110% and nothing less. The first week on my internship I was assigned to sorting
through seemingly endless amounts of red iron and tin among other things with a skid steer. Overtime
I went from having very little familiarity with the piece of equipment to having spent days
maneuvering through the mud and sand that was behind the shop. One day as I was riding I was
reminded of a time in Mr. Fritt s Concrete class where the class took turns learning to operate a skid
steer belonging to OSUIT it was very satisfying to realize how far I had come.
The next week I received even more practice on the skid steer as I was told I was to spend quite a bit
of time mowing a couple of different locations with a brush hog and for the next few days that was the
mission. I spent many hours on something that may have seemed meaningless to many and learn to
take pride in it. Mid way through the week I went to my first real site. The facility was owned by a
company called Archrock. I only spent a day there but in that little bit of time I was hit with a wealth
of knowledge about compressors. I understood what the pipeline is about and how it has brought
convenience to every

Food Waste Of The Global Food Chain
Different definitions of food waste with respect to the complexities of food supply chains are
discussed. Background information on how food is wasted is provided. Food waste in the global food
chain is reviewed in relation to the prospects for feeding a population of nine billion by 2050. A
significant gap exists in the understanding of the food waste implications in the economy of the
developing countries. For affluent economies, post consumer food waste accounts for the greatest
overall losses. To supplement the fragmentary picture and to gain a forward view, scholarly sources
were consulted, data recorded and analyzed. The analysis highlighted the scale of the problem, the
scope for improved system efficiencies and the challenges of affecting behavioral change to reduce
food waste. More to that, long term and short term effects of wasting food was listed and described.
A discussion of the comparative amounts of food being wasted, why it is wasted and who wastes it
most will take place. The strategies put in place by different countries to eliminate food waste will
illustrate that this food could be better used to alleviate starvation and reduce environmental waste.
Many countries are filled with individuals fighting starvation. On the other hand, there are many
people in the world who throw away perfectly fine foods just because they are full or they don t want
it anymore. The residents of this world need to start thinking twice about the food they waste. When
people go

Japanese Presidential Campaign
First of all, Mrs. Candidate it is my honor to advice you for this years presidential campaign. In order
to succeed in this campaign, it is important that you get familiar with Japan and also how their local
and international politics are structured. Before we start, let me please briefly introduce you the
structure of the Japanese government. After the World II Japan replaced their Meiji constitution to its
current Constitution in 1946. According to Maki the reason why Meiji constitution is because as he
stated The national tragedy of a physically and spiritually devastating lost wars brought the old
constitutional order to an end. (Maki, 1990). In the new Constitution, it states that Japan shall have a
constitutional monarchy, in which the Emperor is the head of the state but serves only as the symbol of
the state with no power. (NYU, 2006). Moreover, the Japanese Government consists of three branches
including, the Executive branch, the legislative branch and the Judicial branch. Executive power
consists of the Prime Minister and other ministers who complete the Cabinet. On the other hand, the
Japanese national parliament Diet has the legislative power. The Diet is comprised from both the
House of Representatives and the House of Councilors. Moreover, both of these houses are directly
elected by the Japanese ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

freedom and speech, freedom of religion and to the equality of all and so on. Based on the 3rd Chapter

There are several business organizations operating around the world, competition is at its peak,
products and services offered are so closely similar that identifying the difference between them is
difficult, but there is only one way differentiation is made in today s market, in the larger prospective,
and that differentiation is the difference in quality offered. Ali et al., (2010) points, out that the
properties of a service or product that the buyer or user purchases and the value given to it by them is
the quality of that product or service. Koch (2003) suggests that quality is a process of developing a
product or service, building relationship through assessment, anticipation and the fulfillment of the
stakeholders implied needs. It is here where the real market is, real competition, customers, profits,
market share and success lies. Organizations that deliver quality are always desired by their customers.

Analysis Of The Poem The Bride
Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue and a silver sixpence in her shoe
is an old English rhyme that its exact origins are not fully known but was said a good bit in the
Victorian era. In 1894 a newspaper in Pennsylvania the Warren Ledger, had this poem in it and was
said to be a Puritan marriage tradition but many other areas started using it as their own tradition. By
going also with the poem the bride has to collect five objects from her things, family and friends. The
five objects are for good luck and a lot of the time they are family ones that have been handed down
from one generation to another. The bride will have to wear all the items the day of the in order to
have good luck. (Meaning of Something Old, 015) With each item the bride collects for the day of the
wedding represents something different. They something old represents her life, family and tradition.,
something new offers positive benefits for the future, something borrowed represents borrowed
happiness, something blue symbolizes purity, love and loyalty, and the sixpence in the bride s shoe is
for good fortune and prosperity. The sixpence in the shoe is mainly a largely used British tradition. A
sixpence is a sliver coin that was used form the 17h 20th centuries in Maryland as well as England.
(Meaning of Something Old, 2015) Many brides practice this in their own ways, using a blue garter,
old jewelry, something borrowed from someone and a new wedding dress. These days

International Union For Conservation Of Nature
Imagine you are this beautiful elephant peacefully drinking water from the waterhole among other
African animals and then you hear gun shots firing everywhere. You are running for your life when
suddenly everything becomes pitch black, then you open your eyes and see a man with a gun pointing
at your head laughing as you lay dying. The general point is that almost all animals are getting to the
brink of extinction or are either being tagged as an endangered species by the IUCN Red List. The
IUCN International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List is a list of millions of species and
subspecies from all over the world that are currently losing its population due to poaching. This is a

This policy provides what is causing animal extinction, how is it going to benefit the environment and
business corporations and how this policy will make more of an impact than other animal related
policies. This policy could be the best policy of all animal rights policies but the chances of it working
to eliminate this threat is slim, since most humans don t care for its inhabitants as long as they get
more green meaning money.
The House Bill 248 bill was set into action because of animal extinction that is being caused by illegal
poaching. People poach animals, mostly on the endangered species list, and sell them to high buyers
on the black market, which are then sold to business corporations to make clothes, jewelry and
unnecessary natural medicine. The whole point of this policy is to eliminate ivory and rhinoceros
horns trading sales because both animal species are on the IUCN Red List. This policy mentions that
in order to make this bill work in Pennsylvania, some laws are going to be needed in order fulfill this
salvation and to spread the word around the world. An example of an additional law that could be
issued would be to reinforce the NSCWT [National Strategy for Combating Wildlife Trafficking]. The

Chevy Pickup Evolution Of Chevy
Chevy Pickup Evolution Have you ever wondered how the pickup industry got started and what the
first kind of trucks were like? There has been many different generations of pickups. Chevy has made
a big impact on the truck industry and what they are now, in this day and age . But, the most important
ones were the old generations of pickups. The first generation of chevy pickups were made between
1918 1928. The first one that was made in 1918 was called the Chevy 490. From the factory they didn
t come with anything on the back of it, so all it came with was an engine and a cab, different
companies made the boxes for them that you had to buy separately. They used a 171 cubic inch, over
head valve, four cylinder engine that produced 21.7 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These engines had a lot more horsepower and torque than the previous engines and made the trucks
able to pull a heavier load. The new engines made up to 56 horsepower in this generation and 146 foot
pounds of torque and where 194 cubic inches(Bunn, Chevrolet Trucks). Chevy still didn t have beds
on their trucks until 1930 then they started to put a bed on the trucks and made the cab a little bit
bigger and more comfortable (Williams, 95 Years of Chevy Pickup History). Chevy also put a better,
easier to shift, 3 speed synchromesh transmission. This was a great improvement because you could
drive smoother, it was easier to drive the truck and you could pull a heavier load. The synchromesh
style transmissions are still used in all of the manual transmissions on the road today. In 1936 they put
full length water jackets on all of their engines. The full length water jackets made the engines run
cooler and prevent them from overheating. This also let them make the engine bigger and were moved
from 194 to 207 cubic inches. The next style of pickups were produced from 1937 1946. This is when
they started to become the more modern type of trucks. Although today they would be considered old
and very simple back then they were top of the line and very modern . The reasons that they were
called the modern style is because they made a bunch of improvements to the trucks. They had
redesigned the whole cab and made it bigger and more comfortable to drive for longer

Informative Speech On Agriculture
I. Introduction:
a. Attention Getter: Picture it if you will a world where we rely on a minute percentage of the
population to feed our country. Imagine the struggle they may have to produce food for a country as
large as ours. Then imagine what could happen if people didn t enter this industry and the majority of
the workers were past the common held age of retirement. This picture is of current production
agriculture and this world is the one we all live in today.
b. Benefits: Unfortunately, the agriculture industry has been getting a bad rap both in the media and
the public eye. However, if we take responsibility for educating ourselves we can reverse the trend of
young people on entering the industry.
c. Thesis: Fewer people are returning or going into the agriculture industry.
d. Preview: Due to this trend we are seeing the aging of American Farmers and the spreading of
misconceptions in our society.
II. MP1 Compared to recent years fewer individuals are returning to or going into the agricultural
industry.
a. The agriculture industry is not only the largest industry within our state, but also within our nation.
However, in recent years it has also been one of the most heavily criticized. This has led to a brain
drain in rural America as more people decide to leave our industry and their family farms.
b. In a 2017 publication of The New York Times, Mark Core, an executive vice president at Vermeer
(an agricultural equipment manufacturer), said that his customers say, the No. 1 thing holding back
growth is labor every time. (In Iowa...Not)
c. There is a lot of speculation as to why this trend is happening, however the most common held
belief is that there is no money in the agricultural industry and if you want to be successful you should
look somewhere else. If we are to save America s most important industry it starts with preparing now.
III. MP2 The average age of American Farmers is steadily increasing, and people are further removed
from production agriculture.
a. The average age of the American Farmer is increasing.
i. Within the United States a very small percentage of the population produces enough food for the
entire country. The fear is as these people grow older this already small number

The Effect Of Genetic Diversity On Living Things Are The...
The main cause of genetic diversity in living things are the five processes of evolution. These five
processes genetic drift, gene flow, natural selection, speciation, and mutations all affect allele
frequencies within a population in different ways, thus, creating genetic diversity. Population change
is in direct relation to both genetic drift and gene flow. Genetic drift is defined as variation in the
relative frequency of different genotypes in a small population. This variation is caused by two types
of genetic drift also known as the Bottleneck effect and the Founders effect. A Bottleneck effect is
typically caused by a random event such as hunting or a natural disaster which can significantly
reduce a population. Although a population can gain back their original population size after a
Bottleneck effect, their genes have been permanently affected, resulting in much less genetic variation
than that of a population that was not affected by a Bottleneck effect. Examples of genetic diversity
due to a Bottleneck effect include the lack of genetic variation due to intense hunting in the 1890 s
within the Northern elephant seal population compared to the large Southern elephant seal population.
A Founders effect occurs when individuals from a large population branch out and create a new
colony. Due to the small population, the colony is more likely to have less genetic variation from the
original population. An example of a Founders effect is the presence of Polydactyly

The Ancient Aztecs Complex and Advanced Civilization. The Aztecs were a civilization that emerged

their own system of government, a very complex religion, and sports and games were very important
to the civilization. The Aztecs were a civilization that was complex as well as very advanced in many
different areas of their civilization such as their government, religion, and sports. An area of the
Aztecs civilization that was very complex and advanced was their government. The Aztec government

Analysis Of The Crucible And Half Hanged Mary
The Crucible and Half Hanged Mary were written and based off of the Salem Witch trials. The Salem
witch trials occurred in colonial Massachusetts between 1692 and 1693. More than 200 people were
accused of practicing witchcraft and 20 were executed. Eventually, the colony admitted the trials were
a mistake and compensated the families of those convicted. This is similar to today in that today,
people are being accused of things they haven t done just because they look a certain way or are
similar to the people who actually did something bad. Being falsely accused of something can send
people into hysterics and send them into a downward spiral. While both Atwood and Miller both seek
to reveal the injustices incurred by the victims of the Salem witch trials, Miller focuses on the effects
of hysteria and religious zealotry on society, while Atwood aims to commemorate the excruciating
experience of a single victim. In Half hanged Mary, the use of first person allows the reader to read the
thoughts of the person speaking or thinking and allows the connection between reader and character to
grow. While in the crucible, having the reader be told the story from the narrator s perspective allows
the reader a window to see into each and every character s thoughts. Miller wanted to show everything
going on from the thought of every character to what the character says. Miller writes, (laughing
bitterly)... (He turns suddenly toward a sound outside. He starts for the door as Mary

Essay about The Killers by Ernest Hemingway
The Killers by Ernest Hemingway
The Killers by Ernest Hemingway is a story based upon Hemingway s view of the big city in the late
1920 s. During the era of prohibition whoever controlled the flow of alcohol controlled the city.
Unfortunately, the police were powerless against man thirst for booze. The Mafia also expanded into
the bookie field, and if someone didn t pay up or double crossed the Mafia they were taken out.
Hemingway was unfamiliar with this city scene and we can see a very strong correlation between him
and one of his characters, Nick Adams. Nick was a newcomer to the city, completely unfamiliar with
the boldness of disregard for the law that was present. The Theme that I feel Hemingway is trying to
convey is how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Theme of the story was more or less an actual event that could have taken place in any one of the
major cities in the late 1920 s. When Mobsters ruled and the police where simply a slight annoyance.
The two killers who entered the lunchroom were most likely Mafia hit men. As they leave, with Al
only partially concealing the sawed off shotgun, they further flaunt their disdain for the law (Geimer
1260). This Disdain for the law points to a more powerful organization than a simple murder. Ole s
response also points to a larger, higher power. His response is much like that of the older waiter: he is
resigned not to life but to death. He repeatedly tells Nick Adams that there is nothing for him to do; he
turns his face to the wall (Taube 6). Ole s response also sheds light on the general attitude of the 1920
s, which was to just mind your own business and leave everyone else alone. Even the cook, Sam, told
Nick You better not have anything
to do with it at all (Hemingway, 17). This sets the mobsters influence into perspective, showing us that
the general public was under control of an unwritten, silent government. The reader was led to believe
that the two killers, Max and Al, were Mafia hit men. While Hemingway never says if they were or
weren t, we can see instances where they switched from one to another. After Max and Al enter the
diner they look at the menu to try and find something to eat so as not to look

Nursing Diagnoses And Its Effects On The United States
Our client, Ertha Williams is a 99 year old female who lives alone in a low income apartment complex
on the second floor in Monroe, Michigan. Ertha suffers from chronic kidney disease and has a history
of hypertension and type one diabetes. Due to her chronic kidney disease Ertha has regular scheduled
dialysis appointments three times a week, but since the death of her son and husband and her inability
to drive it is difficult for Ertha to get to her dialysis appointments. She also has difficulties preparing
the multiple medication she is required to take to manage her hypertension and diabetes. After her last
dialysis appointment the nurse reported that Ertha appeared frail and emaciated. Ertha herself also
stated that she worries about financial issues frequently and has good and bad days occasionally.
Based on these findings Ertha is in need of some assistance to help alleviate some of the problems and
stresses she is undergoing. Several nursing diagnoses can be established based on Ertha s current
situation and through these diagnoses it will be easier to establish what kind of services Ertha will
need from the surrounding community of Monroe and what types of barriers she might encounter in
attempting to access these services.
Ertha s most prominent issues are her inability to get to her prescribed dialysis appointments three
times a week and the difficulties she has in preparing her medications. Based on this evidence a

The Cuban Revolution In Nicaragua
stated the necessity of the Soviet Union and Cuba to become allies, and this move would also
influence many countries in Latin America to become allies with the Soviet Union rather than the U.S

One of the first areas in Latin America to be affected by the Cuban Revolution was the small Central
American country of Nicaragua. Cuba prior to the Cuban Revolution, was under a dictator and many
people lived in poverty, and in the 1960s Nicaragua was faced with same problem. The fact that Cuba
was successful in their revolution, inspired the Nicaraguan Revolution. Nicaragua like Cuba had

themes. In a paragraph, explain how these both function as motifs in the novel. Be sure to also explain
the effect these motifs have on the characters.
a. The recurring motifs of the poem and the soldier figurines correlate together in the novel And Then

However, every time someone was killed, by the way described in the poem, one of the figurines
would be removed. Rogers was the first one to notice the start in this trend. After the death of his wife

The World That Are Worse Than War
There aren t many things in this world that are worse than war. The proliferation of violence and the
deliberate destruction of human beings in the twentieth century were all made possible by various
groups and individuals. Conformity, prejudice, and desperation among populations all contribute to
violence and mass murder, but often the other side of the coin goes unnoticed. The groups and
individuals responsible can of course escalate acts of mass violence, but they also have the power to
stop and prevent the crimes against humanity in our history and in our future as well. In Cambodia,
the Khmer Rouge assimilated into the minds of a people torn apart by war in their region and torn
apart internally through civil war. Out of this schism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Beginning with the genesis of the Khmer Rouge, it will become clear that Cambodians endured a
period of time in which radical events might seem inevitable.
The Communist Party of Kampuchea (CPK), known also as the Khmer Rouge, emerged from
Cambodia s difficulties living as a French colony. Throughout the 1940 s, the Cambodian communist
movement was influenced by radical Vietnamese across the border. In the 1950 s, the Indochina War
set the stage for CPK to grow stronger over the next two decades. What began as an outlying
movement toward Communism, slowly formed into the radicalized force that later controlled a nation
of people. The CPK took control of Cambodia on April 17, 1975 and created the Democratic
Kampuchea in 1976. The CPK was kept a secret until 1977, and there was no way for anyone outside
of the CPK to know who the party leaders were. Cambodia under the power of the Khmer Rouge
suffered immensely. Policies enforced massacres, torture, and repression. Cambodia was turned into a
massive detention center as well as a graveyard for almost two million people. In March 1970,
Marshal Lon Nol, a Cambodian who had formerly served as prime minister, successfully executed a
coup that took Prince Sihanouk out of power. Nol was aided by pro American associates. While power
in Cambodia was shuffling, the Khmer Rouge had been gaining popularity and members to the point

Andreas Vesalius And The Renaissance
Andreas Vesalius is one of the greatest minds of the Renaissance, he is frequently referred to as the
founder of modern human anatomy. The reason he accurately represents the Renaissance is because of
his dedication, persistence and intelligence. He was extremely dedicated to learn the truth about the
human anatomy. No matter the difficulties that he came across, he was determined to find the truth,
and because of this, he created the basic outline of human anatomy in modern studies and shared his
knowledge by writing his book called De Humani Corporis Fabrica Libri Septem , which is translated
into On the Fabric of the Human Body .
Andreas Vesalius proved his dedication by disproving Galen s discoveries about human anatomy. He

He contributed an extreme amount knowledge to the world and helped others understand how their
bodies work. This was not an easy task for Vesalius to do but through persistence and dedication, he
was able to show his intelligence to the world, through his significant discoveries of the human body.
He showed each of these traits in several ways. He showed dedication by disproving many discoveries
that were taught and believed for many years before him, though even with the difficulty of
convincing others that his discoveries were true, he published his findings. He showed persistence by
continuing to practice human dissection even with the strict laws against it and even managed to
convince a paduan judge to allow him to continue dissecting human corpses. Lastly, he showed his
intelligence in his book De Humani Corporis Fabrica in which he explains his discoveries through
illustrations and text. One lesson that can be learned from Vesalius is that, if you truly believe that
your actions will benefit the world in some way, then don t listen to what others have to say and just

Causes And Effects Of PTSD
The death of my father took a big toll on my family and I. We all fell into depression and are often
going in and out of it still. This led me to think about those who suffer in a more egregious manner
and end up experiencing Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). I can only empathize to an extent,
but I do know there are many causes and effects of PTSD. PTSD makes a big impact on all who have
it; with its causes and effects and it s because of this that those who suffer from it need help to cope
with it. PTSD is a result of going through something traumatic and/or life changing. The Nebraska

They can also go through depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and problems functioning after a war.
(Nebraska Department of Veteran s Affairs). Staff Sgt. Eric James was one of the few military

Terrible Sweatshops: The Examination of the Unethicalness
Figure 1 (Lewin)
FORCED TO WORK EXHAUSTING HOURS this is the label which a woman who bought a
summer dress at Primark found (See figure 1). The message was a cry for help from workers and
implies the harsh environment for the people in a sweatshop (Lewin). The word sweatshop was made
in the end of 1800s. The definition of the sweatshop is broad but it describes any workplace where
people are forced poor conditions and long hours of works with low wages (Annabelle). The US
Department of Labor defined a sweatshop as a factory which violates two or more labor laws
(DoSomething.org). People in developed countries tend to enjoy buying cheaper products and do not
care about the reality of the process they have made. In fact, many women and children are forced to
work in sweatshops in developing countries. Some corporations such as NIKE, GAP and Wal Mart
have already revealed those facts but the problem has not been solved yet (Bakan). Actually, those are
just few of the companies involved in sweatshop labor. By using sweatshops, many corporations
reduce their production costs. And millions of people still live with what they get from sweatshops

conditions of sweatshop labor are unfair and unethical, relative to their other alternatives, sweatshop
labor is a very attractive option for workers in the developing world. Some insist that workers would
only choose a job in a sweatshop when that job is better for them than any of their other alternatives

What Is Mill s Argument In Chapter 2
In chapter 2, Mill is considering the issue of whether individuals, either through their government or
all alone, ought to be permitted to pressure or limit any other individual expression of opinion. Mill
emphasized that those actions are not legitimate. Every person has his own opinion, and no one has
the right to make him or her change the opinion. Mill says, is wrong because it robs the human race,
posterity as well as the existing generation. Additionally, Mill considered that humanity is hurt by

their own critical thinking. Nobody can jeopardize their right of own judgement. He claimed that all
people are hurt by silencing true ideas. After presenting his first argument, Mill looks at possible

Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood
The concern about the condition of the world today is an ever present debatable issue in our current
society. In the science fiction novel Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood, the author as put by Jayne
Glover in critical analysis Human/Nature: Ecological Philosophy in Margaret Atwood s Oryx and
Crake , Atwood speculates on what the near future may be like considering the realities of
contemporary environmental, social and political issues (Glover 50). Atwood s novel specifically
focuses on the question: when will the line be drawn? She emphasizes dystopian ideals by painting a
grim picture of a futuristic society that extends many of the scientific capabilities available today to a
probable future state of existence. Additionally Atwood portrays a society that is consistent with a
godless and soulless people that would logically evolve if all current standards of morality were
abandoned. In Oryx and Crake, Atwood uses society s obsessive need for immortality to demonstrate
the dystopian idea of the loss of sacredness of life. Atwood demonstrates this theme through the use of
symbolism and biblical allusions. Atwood uses the theme of immortality to show how the need to
always be young and to never die is a dystopian ideal. The creation of the pigoons (Atwood 22),

Major Discoveries in Electrical Communication in the 1800’s
The nineteenth century was a very prolific era of discovery in electrical knowledge and technologies
that laid the foundation for modern electrical communication. During this period of time the
foundations of modern electrically based technologies were discovered. The nineteenth century began
with a debate between Luigi Galvani, and Alessandro Volta regarding the source of electricity in
Galvani s famous frog experiment. These debates lead to the invention of the battery by Volta, and the
invention of Volta s. Volta s discoveries would lead the way for Ohm s law several years later.
However, before that discovery was made Hans Christian Ørstead discovered electromagnetism,

Galvani noticed that when a metal scalpel was brought close one of the nerves in the frog that the frog
s leg would move. Galvani stated that the electricity observed in the frogs was intrinsic the nerves of
the frog. Galvani used multiple different metals combinations to demonstrate the electric phenomenon.
He would further demonstrate that metals were seemingly unneeded. He did this by manipulating the
nerves and muscles of the frogs in such way that caused the same twitch, as when a metal object was
brought near. The publication of his research in 1791 would peak the interest of Alessandro Volta.
Volta was convinced that Galvani s animal electricity was not the result of the animal tissues, but the
metals within those tissues. In an effort to prove this Volta invented the battery . Volta s battery was
built out of alternating zinc and copper disks with cloth (or a similar medium) soaked in salt water
[10]. Volta stated the following regarding the nature of electricity with respect to Galvani s animal
electricity: Herein lies the whole secret, the whole magic of Galvanism. It is simply an artificial
electricity, which acts under the impulse of contacts between different conductors [9]. At this point
Volta s theory of electricity by contact was fully accepted. Just after Volta s greatest discovery and
before that of Ohm, Hans Christian Ørstead discovered magnetism. Ørstead conducted a series of
experiments that

Individuality And Uniqueness In Emerson s Self Reliance By...
1. In the essay Self Reliance, Ralph Waldo Emerson addressed the topic of originality and uniqueness
to depict the idea that these are the qualities that make people great. Emerson stated that We but half
express ourselves, and are ashamed of that divine idea which each of us represent in order to argue
that each person has a uniqueness because their environments is unique (Emerson 2). The quote infers
that every person in society has an ability to possess a unique idea. Every person has a unique idea,
which means that every person can become a free thinker. Those who do not act on their thoughts and
ideas due to societal rules lose the chance to become unique. Emerson believed that Society is a wave.
The wave moves onward, but the water of which it is composed does not , meaning something sparks
society to do something, everyone starts doing it but why they do it is lost over time (Emerson 20).
The wave of society represents the masses and the water that makes up the wave are the individuals in
society. Every person has an ability to possess a divine thought but cannot ferment it because of
societal restraints (the wave). Due to the influence of society, one lacks the strength to act on their
original thought and follows the crowd. Martin Luther acted on his original thought but thousands of
people adopted his thoughts, even though the reasons for his regional thought are no longer present.
Instead of creating and following their own ideas, they adopted Luther s instead. In society, many
people follow and imitate well established beliefs, thus leading to the lack of divine thought. In the
reading, Emerson came to a conclusion that all people have divine thoughts but cannot act on them
because of societal influences.
2. In the reading titled Self Reliance, Ralph Waldo Emerson addressed the topic of truth and honesty.
According to Emerson, one who went Upright and vital, and speak the rude truth is unique (Emerson
4). Emerson followed this quote stating that one shall Speak what you think now in hard words, and
tomorrow speak what tomorrow thinks...though it contradicts everything (Emerson 7). What Emerson
views as a man simply stating his thoughts and ideas can be seen in society as a contradiction in

Aztec, Inca And Aztec Civilizations
Before the legendary empires of the Romans and the Greeks, there were other prospering civilizations
thriving in parts of Central America and parts of Mexico. The Mayan, Incan and Aztec civilizations
were a few of the greatest ancient civilizations in history, but they each had distinct characteristics that
helped them prosper into the great empires that they became. Each had their own fascinating ways of
food production, governing system and culture. The Mayans were established first out of the three and
settled in modern day Mexico. Then came the Aztecs and they also settled in modern day Mexico and
the Incas were the last of the three and they settled in the Andes Mountains and what is now Peru. All
three had very successful and long lasting civilizations until they were taken out by a natural cause or

of what made them great, only the Incan empire would be able to succeed in today s world because of
their unique governing system and their advancements in military and infrastructure. All three of these

How The Other Half Lives
Well done, Jacob Riis, well done. In the book How the Other Half Lives, published in 1890, harsh
criticisms and observations, along with photojournalism, of the appalling conditions of New York City
tenements and their neighborhoods are examined through the eyes of Jacob Riis. As a reporter at the
time for The New York Tribune, his writing and photography sparked reform and forced many people,
even the likes of Theodore Roosevelt, to focus their attention on the horrendous conditions in which
the immigrants of tenement neighborhoods lived in. Many immigrants have Jacob Riis to thank for in
part, for he helped shine a bright light on them at a time when many others kept them in the darkness.
Just as the Bible s opening chapter is named Genesis, Riis s aptly named opening chapter, Genesis of
the Tenement, gives a brief history on how the tenements came to be in the city and sets the scene for
one of the most notorious slums in New York City, Five Points. Throughout the first several chapters,
Riis talks in general of the dire situation of the people living in the tenements and the tenements
themselves. He then goes on to discuss the Italians, Irish, Chinese, Jews, Arabs, blacks, women, and
children within these tenements separately chapter by chapter. One may notice the copious amounts of
stereotypes, prejudice in some sense, he uses when writing about the Italians, Irish, Chinese, and Jews.

The Importance Of Reading And Reading
Reading is an activity we are constantly faced with from the moment we learn to do it basically, just
like walking or sitting down. However, people learn to read in order to communicate, to express, and
to project things that are hidden inside their own minds and they will not come out easily by just
talking. One might need to think, deep enough, and find the words they were looking for. Afterward, it
is up to the person to decide what to do with those words, of course, they want the words to be heard,
but sometimes more is needed. It would be a waste of time if all that effort that was spent just for
thinking ended up in a few words that will vanish in the air. Yes, maybe those words reached someone

The reader soon makes connections between the characters he is introduced to, and people within his
own life, by analyzing what is in the book, the reader begins to understand and assume what makes
people around him different from him. Empathy is implemented into their brain. However, this is not a
case that is expected to happen all the time. As a book will state in its plot, each person has a different
background, and even the reader has a different background story, which makes each person unique in
mostly every aspect of their life where they get the chance to add at least a minuscule amount of their
personality in. When someone gets the opportunity to read a novel of literature, that person has
enough room to interpret the plot, the characters, the actions that were taken, the causes, and the

reasons why a book might not always be the antidote to an intolerant personality. Some people read

Functions, Roles, And Activities Of Managers
Explain the functions, roles, and activities of managers. Research two companies within the last 3
years, not described in the book, and discuss what managerial characteristics were essential to lead
change.
Controlling, coordinating, staffing, and planning are the key functions that managers play in an
organization (Lussier, 2012). Managers control and coordinate resources to achieve set goals and
objectives. They are involved in both the formulation and implementation of strategies in the
organization. Managers handle staffing the company. The manager is tasked with the responsibility to
recruit the best talents for the business. They create job descriptions, advertise vacancies, and organize
interviews. In small organizations, the manager is also in charge of payroll. The manager
communicates with other workers to keep the workplace running. The manager ensures the workplace
is functioning efficiently by communication responsibilities and tasks. The manager also conducts
training and business research.
Unilever is among the most successful multinational corporations. The corporation has experienced
immense change because of management practices that are geared towards the development of a
talented workforce, effective communication, coordination, and collaboration. The management
advocates for practices that help motivate employees to give their best for the organization. The other
company that has been transformed because of a change in management practices is

Pedigree Dog Breeds
Carol Bailey had always wanted a dog. Every year she asked her dad if their family could finally get a
dog. He had always refused, describing the pain that you go through when they inevitably pass away.
When she was in eighth grade, after years of asking, her father finally caved in. The Baileys decided
to get a golden retriever from a breeder in town. They went together and picked out a dog to buy.
Before the dog was old enough to be picked up by the Baileys, it died from an unknown cause. The
breeder apologized and allowed them to choose another from the same litter. With their playful puppy
Andy finally at home, Carol could not be happier. She spent hours each day playing with him, walking
him, and even trying to teach tricks to him, although ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One option is to cut out the popular sire effect and close breeding and to limit the amount of line
breeding. Breeders should switch out dogs instead of sticking to one sire or one pair of dogs, as it
limits the diversity of the genes. Another option that is becoming more popular is breeding two
purebreds together to create a hybrid breed like the Labradoodle, which is a cross between a Labrador
retriever and a poodle. This option adds variety to the gene pool while also keeping some traits from
both breeds. This option, like any, is not 100% effective because dog breeds can have common health
problems. If dogs are bred after doing research on the common health problems, it can result in a
healthy mixed breed with a more diverse gene pool. While there is no certain way to get rid of all
health problems associated with inbreeding, other than to stop putting value on purebreds altogether
and moving toward mutts, steps to prevent further inbreeding must be taken to improve the quality of
life for future generations of purebred

Freeman Lobotomy Essay
Psychosurgery is often called neurosurgery for the mental ill/disordered. It was said that the surgery
could destroy brain tissue and eliminate the symptoms of mental illness all together. Even though it
was first used by Gotttlieb Burckhardt it was not a popular procedure until American neurologist
Walter Freeman. Freeman had a specific form of psychosurgery and that was lobotomy. Freeman
believed that it could cut certain nerves and eliminate excessiveness of emotions and stabilize a
personality. The first every U.S. lobotomy was on a Kansas housewife in 1936. The goal and purpose
of lobotomy was to help schizophrenia, depressed, bipolar disorder, and other mental illness patients.
The procedure is very freighting sounding. The surgeon/doctor ... Show more content on

Freeman s lobotomy procedure at only the age of 12. His stepmother is actually the person who took
him to see Freeman simply because she wanted to do away with him. She told Freeman that her step
son did not react to love or punishment, does a good deal of day dreaming and when asked says I don t
know , and objects going to bed but sleeps well. She took him to numerous doctors everyone told her
the same thing except Dr. Freeman. Other doctors said he was just a typical young boy while Freeman
said otherwise. Freeman told her that the only way to fix her stepson was by a lobotomy. She informed
the doctor that he had to talk to Dully s father and convince him the procedure would be beneficial.
Surely enough the next time Dully s step mom took him to see Dr. Freeman, Howard Dully would be
sitting in a chair with what Dully calls ice picks in his eyes. Dully never really talked about his
lobotomy growing up but he definitely felt like something was missing from his soul. He always
wanted to know more about what happened considering he did not remember the procedure itself. It
took Dully until he was 54 (studied for two years, now is 56) to begin to want to figure out exactly
what happened, so he did just that. He went to George Washington University and found the clues he
needed to know he was

Bernard L. Madoff s Life
Bernard L. Madoff was born into a family that had originally immigrated to the United States during
the Great Depression. Bernard s parents, Ralph and Sylvia Madoff had originally tried their hands in
the financial world unsuccessfully. His mother registered as a broker dealer in the early 1960s but the
SEC forced her to close the business for failing to report her financial condition (like mother like son
right). When Bernie was younger, he did not care for finance; he was focused mainly on his girlfriend
Ruth and his high schools swim team. In his spare time Bernie would work as a lifeguard and save his
money for later investments. After graduating high school, in 1956, he set off to college at the
University of Alabama for a year and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of these people included his brother Peter, who joined him in 1970 as the firm s chief
compliance officer. Peter s daughter, Shana, became a rules compliance lawyer for the trading division
of the company as well. Madoff also employed his three sons Mark, Andrew, and Roger who only
worked there shortly before his death in 2006. Madoff s rise on Wall Street was from his beliefs, that
seemed quite bizarre to many at the time, that stocks could be traded by people who never saw each
other but were connected only by electronics. Madoff had invested in a lot of new electronic trading
technology for his firm, which made it cheaper for brokerage firms to fill their stock orders. He even
pioneered a controversial practice called payment for order flow. He would pay big players to send
their customer orders to his firm instead of to the New York Exchange or other regional exchanges. A
lot of buzz was made by floor traders at the traditional exchanges claiming that Madoff was in essence
paying bribes, but Madoff insisted, The order flow payments were necessary to inject greater
competition into the marketplace and reduce the near monopoly of the Big Board (Henriques, 2008).
Madoff was not the household name among American investors, before the scheme, but within Jewish
philanthropy in the New York area his wealth and growing reputation among market insiders was. He
became a generous donor, then a courted board member and,

Effects Of Water On Mars
Mars, a planet made of volcanic basalt rock as the soil on mars is like talcum powder. The red planet is
a great discovery as several ask questions such as, Is there water on mars? Or Is there any life on
Mars? Well after Earth was formed, Mars was the planet containing a higher percentage that is with a
hostable climate than any other planet is the solar system. Outflow channels and other geologic
features provide ample evidence that billions of years ago liquid water flowed on the surface of Mars.
(https://mars.jpl.nasa.gov/msp98/why.html) As said in the article water was on the red planet billions
of years ago. But, was life? As a child growing up, not everyone would have thought this but maybe
they did. We believed that there were

Chernobyl Russia Research Paper
In the Spring of 1986, the worst nuclear disaster the world has ever seen destroyed Chernobyl, Russia.
The Chernobyl disaster was a nuclear plant explosion that occurred when there was an unexpected
power surge that the workers were trying to fix. The reason this is the worst nuclear disaster ever seen
is because not only were there many casualties, but the health care costs were also very expensive for
the country. It took a very long time to decontaminate the area and other parts of Europe which was
very hard. This disaster was very impactful towards the mental and physical health of the residents,
the environment of Chernobyl and the areas around it, and helped change the safety regulations and
ways nuclear reactors are used today. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The city of Chernobyl which, is now ghost town, was a highly populated city in Russia. But on April
26, 1986, the nuclear power plant exploded, killing thousands. Residents of Chernobyl were
immediately relocated and most had permanent health problems. The tragedy took years to repair, but
the city was still inhabitable due to the very high amounts of radiation. There are still many legends
and scary stories about mutated creatures that roam the empty streets of Chernobyl, but nobody will
ever know if those are true unless they explore it

Xi Jinping Personality
Xi Jinping s cult of personality poses a threat to the stability of the Chinese nation as it both echoes
Mao s godlike reverence and masks Xi s greater consolidation of power as he cracks down on corrupt
officials, human rights, and the Chinese media. We were at a 7/11 in Hong Kong when I asked my
girlfriend why she was staring at the news racks. He s not smiling like he does in the mainland. He
seems so serious ... even a bit scary. Having come from Beijing, the only images of Xi my girlfriend
had seen were pictures of him smiling as he plays football, standing in line to buy some pork buns like
a regular customer, or looking affectionately at his wife Peng Liyuan as they prepare to greet world
leaders (ChinaFile, 2016). These images, which the Communist Party promoted, lead to an obsession
with China s new leader, culminating into a viral dance video which romanticised Uncle Xi s love of
Peng Mama (Phillips, 2016a). This spawned more videos extolling Xi s brilliance, to the point where
even the government was uncomfortable with a song comparing him to Mao as the saviour of the new
Chinese nation (The Economist, 2016a). While on the surface this seems harmless, its similarity to
Mao s cult of personality is enough to worry some spectators (The Economist, 2016a). This is
especially considering how it was Mao and his fanatic cultists who plunged China into the Cultural
Revolution a chaotic decade where millions were killed. While Xi s cult of personality pales in

  • 2. Using Virtual Reconstruction Methods And The Technologies Abstract In my art history class, we studied Rome Reborn, a 3D digital model of illustrating the urban development of ancient Rome. I thought it could be tied nicely into our understanding new media, more specifically how the use of virtual reconstruction methods and the technologies are cultural and historical customs. A virtual reconstruction, as a simulation, could be seen as accurately imitating the past and it may also be comprehended as a model constituting a hyperreality. These two perspectives are regarded as opposite ends of a spectrum in which the comprehension of a simulation sways due to the embedded conventions of realism. While not arguing a fixed position, this paper argues that above all a simulation should be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rome Reborn (RR) s objective is to create scientific 3D digital models that illustrate the development of the city of Rome from the first settlement in the late Bronze Ages to the dramatic depopulation of the city in the early middle Ages ca. 552 AD (Frischer, 2) However, the project team started modeling at the moment of 320 AD because at that time Rome is considered to be at the height of its urban development. Since 2007, the project team of RR has been releasing and distributing images and videos of the virtual reconstruction on the web for public viewing. After all, a goal of archaeology is to present their interpretations of the ancient remains. According to Frischer, the videos present the current stage of the virtual reconstruction of ancient Rome s urban development in 320 AD, even including animations as casual as civilians strolling through buildings to something as exciting as gladiators fighting at the Coliseum. Every time a new walk through is released, it results in numerous and mainly encouraging, comments from the public; This is how beautiful Rome once looked! (Vimeo) and Just amazing!! • 3. Lady Chatterly s Lover and A Clockwork Orange Introduction Banning books is a legally approved censorship of a text or a body of works, varying from nation to nation and, mainly, within different periods. It is closely associated with social conventions such as moral, religious or political attitudes, which shift over time, and thus re evaluate art. D.H Lawrence Lady Chatterly s Lover and Anthony Burgess A Clockwork Orange are known for their notoriety in different moments of the twentieth century, because they as well were part of certain definitions of culture and associated cultural values. D.H Lawrence: Lady Chatterly s Lover (1928) Lawrence s novel is a story about a sexual relationship between two members of different class systems, with sexually explicit descriptions, and words such as fuck or cunt (LCL, pp.46, 320). Thus, in the first half of the twentieth century, the book was considered offensive or unsuitable for the public. The character of Lady Chatterley, through an affair with a gamekeeper Oliver, rediscovers her sexuality, and makes some realisations about her mental and physical needs. In the crude language, Lawrence captured something new and challenging to the public consensus on a decent culture. Consequently, a trial of 1960 under the Obscene Publications Act 1959 meant a break with old values, allowing the book to be viewed as a text of a literary merit, and recognising wider changes of social norms. It coincided with beginnings of the sexual revolution, greater freedoms in publishing and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They were truly amazing young boys with courage, determination, and a will to do what they had their minds set on no matter what life threw at them. One of the obstacles that Sonny faced was the trial and error process that happened when Sonny and the rest of the rocket boys were launching their rockets. Many of their rockets flew off course at people, cars, and buildings, which had many people thinking that the boys should not be allowed to launch their rockets. Another thing that happened during the trial and error process was that many of their rockets blew up before ever lifting off of the ground. These problems made them have to find out what went wrong and would make them spend hours trying to fix the problem. They did get through these problems that they encountered. Migraine sufferers typically report a definite pattern to their headaches, and they can report what stimuli bring them on. Most migraine sufferers experience their first attack before the age of 20. There is no single cause of migraines, but the tendency to get migraines does tend to run in families. When a migraine occurs, it means that something has altered several of the neurotransmitter sensitive receptors located on the outside surface of the nerve cells (neurons) so that the nervous system is no longer able to constantly maintain the natural balance that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Scientists suspect that a caffeine withdrawal could be the possible cause of common migraines. Why? Well, caffeine is a powerful psychoactive drug that is addictive. Caffeine withdrawals produce all the same symptoms as migraine. Chronic caffeine use causes a number of changes to the central nervous system. Caffeine use increases the number of some types of serotonin receptors and some types of adenosine receptors as well. Adenosine is another neurotransmitter; adenosine strongly inhibits serotonin release. Chronic caffeine use increases the number of adenosine receptors.(The body is trying to compensate for the constant presence of caffeine, which occupies and blockades adenosine receptors and thus interferes with adenosine reception.) When caffeine is withdrawn, however, the chronic caffeine user is left with too many adenosine receptors. Having too many adenosine receptors is equivalent to having too much adenosine. As a result, serotonin release is inhibited and this leads to migraine symptoms. As you know there are many drugs used against migraine. Many of these drugs contain caffeine, for good reason: caffeine relieves migraine by reversing caffeine withdrawal. Migraine drugs that contain caffeine include Fiorinal (40mg caffeine), Fioricet (40mg caffeine), Excedrin (65mg caffeine), Anacin (32mg caffeine), Cafergot, Norgesic Forte (60mg caffeine), and others. The very first day Derek, my employer made his expectations loud and clear he was to have 110% and nothing less. The first week on my internship I was assigned to sorting through seemingly endless amounts of red iron and tin among other things with a skid steer. Overtime I went from having very little familiarity with the piece of equipment to having spent days maneuvering through the mud and sand that was behind the shop. One day as I was riding I was reminded of a time in Mr. Fritt s Concrete class where the class took turns learning to operate a skid steer belonging to OSUIT it was very satisfying to realize how far I had come. The next week I received even more practice on the skid steer as I was told I was to spend quite a bit of time mowing a couple of different locations with a brush hog and for the next few days that was the mission. I spent many hours on something that may have seemed meaningless to many and learn to take pride in it. Mid way through the week I went to my first real site. Background information on how food is wasted is provided. Food waste in the global food chain is reviewed in relation to the prospects for feeding a population of nine billion by 2050. A significant gap exists in the understanding of the food waste implications in the economy of the developing countries. For affluent economies, post consumer food waste accounts for the greatest overall losses. To supplement the fragmentary picture and to gain a forward view, scholarly sources were consulted, data recorded and analyzed. The analysis highlighted the scale of the problem, the scope for improved system efficiencies and the challenges of affecting behavioral change to reduce food waste. More to that, long term and short term effects of wasting food was listed and described. A discussion of the comparative amounts of food being wasted, why it is wasted and who wastes it most will take place. The strategies put in place by different countries to eliminate food waste will illustrate that this food could be better used to alleviate starvation and reduce environmental waste. Many countries are filled with individuals fighting starvation. On the other hand, there are many people in the world who throw away perfectly fine foods just because they are full or they don t want it anymore. • 11. Analysis Of The Poem The Bride Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue and a silver sixpence in her shoe is an old English rhyme that its exact origins are not fully known but was said a good bit in the Victorian era. In 1894 a newspaper in Pennsylvania the Warren Ledger, had this poem in it and was said to be a Puritan marriage tradition but many other areas started using it as their own tradition. By going also with the poem the bride has to collect five objects from her things, family and friends. The five objects are for good luck and a lot of the time they are family ones that have been handed down from one generation to another. The bride will have to wear all the items the day of the in order to have good luck. The sixpence in the shoe is mainly a largely used British tradition. A sixpence is a sliver coin that was used form the 17h 20th centuries in Maryland as well as England. The House Bill 248 bill was set into action because of animal extinction that is being caused by illegal poaching. There has been many different generations of pickups. Chevy has made a big impact on the truck industry and what they are now, in this day and age . But, the most important ones were the old generations of pickups. The first generation of chevy pickups were made between 1918 1928. The first one that was made in 1918 was called the Chevy 490. From the factory they didn t come with anything on the back of it, so all it came with was an engine and a cab, different companies made the boxes for them that you had to buy separately. Chevy still didn t have beds on their trucks until 1930 then they started to put a bed on the trucks and made the cab a little bit bigger and more comfortable (Williams, 95 Years of Chevy Pickup History). Chevy also put a better, easier to shift, 3 speed synchromesh transmission. This was a great improvement because you could drive smoother, it was easier to drive the truck and you could pull a heavier load. The synchromesh style transmissions are still used in all of the manual transmissions on the road today. In 1936 they put full length water jackets on all of their engines. The full length water jackets made the engines run cooler and prevent them from overheating. This also let them make the engine bigger and were moved from 194 to 207 cubic inches. The next style of pickups were produced from 1937 1946. This is when they started to become the more modern type of trucks. Although today they would be considered old and very simple back then they were top of the line and very modern . Imagine the struggle they may have to produce food for a country as large as ours. Then imagine what could happen if people didn t enter this industry and the majority of the workers were past the common held age of retirement. This picture is of current production agriculture and this world is the one we all live in today. b. Benefits: Unfortunately, the agriculture industry has been getting a bad rap both in the media and the public eye. However, if we take responsibility for educating ourselves we can reverse the trend of young people on entering the industry. c. Thesis: Fewer people are returning or going into the agriculture industry. d. Preview: Due to this trend we are seeing the aging of American Farmers and the spreading of misconceptions in our society. II. MP1 Compared to recent years fewer individuals are returning to or going into the agricultural industry. a. The agriculture industry is not only the largest industry within our state, but also within our nation. However, in recent years it has also been one of the most heavily criticized. This has led to a brain drain in rural America as more people decide to leave our industry and their family farms. b. (In Iowa...Not) c. There is a lot of speculation as to why this trend is happening, however the most common held belief is that there is no money in the agricultural industry and if you want to be successful you should look somewhere else. If we are to save America s most important industry it starts with preparing now. III. • 15. The Effect Of Genetic Diversity On Living Things Are The... The main cause of genetic diversity in living things are the five processes of evolution. These five processes genetic drift, gene flow, natural selection, speciation, and mutations all affect allele frequencies within a population in different ways, thus, creating genetic diversity. Population change is in direct relation to both genetic drift and gene flow. Genetic drift is defined as variation in the relative frequency of different genotypes in a small population. This variation is caused by two types of genetic drift also known as the Bottleneck effect and the Founders effect. A Bottleneck effect is typically caused by a random event such as hunting or a natural disaster which can significantly reduce a population. Although a population can gain back their original population size after a Bottleneck effect, their genes have been permanently affected, resulting in much less genetic variation than that of a population that was not affected by a Bottleneck effect. Examples of genetic diversity due to a Bottleneck effect include the lack of genetic variation due to intense hunting in the 1890 s within the Northern elephant seal population compared to the large Southern elephant seal population. A Founders effect occurs when individuals from a large population branch out and create a new colony. Due to the small population, the colony is more likely to have less genetic variation from the original population. An example of a Founders effect is the presence of Polydactyly ... • 17. Analysis Of The Crucible And Half Hanged Mary The Crucible and Half Hanged Mary were written and based off of the Salem Witch trials. The Salem witch trials occurred in colonial Massachusetts between 1692 and 1693. More than 200 people were accused of practicing witchcraft and 20 were executed. Eventually, the colony admitted the trials were a mistake and compensated the families of those convicted. This is similar to today in that today, people are being accused of things they haven t done just because they look a certain way or are similar to the people who actually did something bad. Being falsely accused of something can send people into hysterics and send them into a downward spiral. While both Atwood and Miller both seek to reveal the injustices incurred by the victims of the Salem witch trials, Miller focuses on the effects of hysteria and religious zealotry on society, while Atwood aims to commemorate the excruciating experience of a single victim. In Half hanged Mary, the use of first person allows the reader to read the thoughts of the person speaking or thinking and allows the connection between reader and character to grow. While in the crucible, having the reader be told the story from the narrator s perspective allows the reader a window to see into each and every character s thoughts. The Mafia also expanded into the bookie field, and if someone didn t pay up or double crossed the Mafia they were taken out. As they leave, with Al only partially concealing the sawed off shotgun, they further flaunt their disdain for the law (Geimer 1260). This Disdain for the law points to a more powerful organization than a simple murder. Ole s response also points to a larger, higher power. His response is much like that of the older waiter: he is resigned not to life but to death. He repeatedly tells Nick Adams that there is nothing for him to do; he turns his face to the wall (Taube 6). Ole s response also sheds light on the general attitude of the 1920 s, which was to just mind your own business and leave everyone else alone. Even the cook, Sam, told Nick You better not have anything to do with it at all (Hemingway, 17). This sets the mobsters influence into perspective, showing us that the general public was under control of an unwritten, silent government. The reader was led to believe that the two killers, Max and Al, were Mafia hit men. While Hemingway never says if they were or weren t, we can see instances where they switched from one to another. Ertha suffers from chronic kidney disease and has a history of hypertension and type one diabetes. Due to her chronic kidney disease Ertha has regular scheduled dialysis appointments three times a week, but since the death of her son and husband and her inability to drive it is difficult for Ertha to get to her dialysis appointments. She also has difficulties preparing the multiple medication she is required to take to manage her hypertension and diabetes. After her last dialysis appointment the nurse reported that Ertha appeared frail and emaciated. Ertha herself also stated that she worries about financial issues frequently and has good and bad days occasionally. Based on these findings Ertha is in need of some assistance to help alleviate some of the problems and stresses she is undergoing. Several nursing diagnoses can be established based on Ertha s current situation and through these diagnoses it will be easier to establish what kind of services Ertha will need from the surrounding community of Monroe and what types of barriers she might encounter in attempting to access these services. Ertha s most prominent issues are her inability to get to her prescribed dialysis appointments three times a week and the difficulties she has in preparing her medications. He would further demonstrate that metals were seemingly unneeded. He did this by manipulating the nerves and muscles of the frogs in such way that caused the same twitch, as when a metal object was brought near. The publication of his research in 1791 would peak the interest of Alessandro Volta. Volta was convinced that Galvani s animal electricity was not the result of the animal tissues, but the metals within those tissues. In an effort to prove this Volta invented the battery . Volta s battery was built out of alternating zinc and copper disks with cloth (or a similar medium) soaked in salt water [10]. Volta stated the following regarding the nature of electricity with respect to Galvani s animal electricity: Herein lies the whole secret, the whole magic of Galvanism. It is simply an artificial electricity, which acts under the impulse of contacts between different conductors [9]. At this point Volta s theory of electricity by contact was fully accepted. • 34. Individuality And Uniqueness In Emerson s Self Reliance By... 1. In the essay Self Reliance, Ralph Waldo Emerson addressed the topic of originality and uniqueness to depict the idea that these are the qualities that make people great. Emerson stated that We but half express ourselves, and are ashamed of that divine idea which each of us represent in order to argue that each person has a uniqueness because their environments is unique (Emerson 2). The quote infers that every person in society has an ability to possess a unique idea. Every person has a unique idea, which means that every person can become a free thinker. Those who do not act on their thoughts and ideas due to societal rules lose the chance to become unique. Emerson believed that Society is a wave. The wave moves onward, but the water of which it is composed does not , meaning something sparks society to do something, everyone starts doing it but why they do it is lost over time (Emerson 20). The wave of society represents the masses and the water that makes up the wave are the individuals in society. Every person has an ability to possess a divine thought but cannot ferment it because of societal restraints (the wave). Due to the influence of society, one lacks the strength to act on their original thought and follows the crowd. Martin Luther acted on his original thought but thousands of people adopted his thoughts, even though the reasons for his regional thought are no longer present. Instead of creating and following their own ideas, they adopted Luther s instead. In society, many people follow and imitate well established beliefs, thus leading to the lack of divine thought. In the reading, Emerson came to a conclusion that all people have divine thoughts but cannot act on them because of societal influences. 2. When someone gets the opportunity to read a novel of literature, that person has enough room to interpret the plot, the characters, the actions that were taken, the causes, and the effects the way they prefer to. The analysis of a book is completely unique per person and it will never be the exact same from one to another. As a consequence, a book might not always change someone s mind, it might be pointless for the reader, as much as it can be meaningful for other, this is one of the reasons why a book might not always be the antidote to an intolerant personality. Some people read and understands but the conflicts in their own life go beyond pages and letters, sometimes those conflicts are deeply attached to their persona and ... • 40. Pedigree Dog Breeds Carol Bailey had always wanted a dog. Every year she asked her dad if their family could finally get a dog. He had always refused, describing the pain that you go through when they inevitably pass away. When she was in eighth grade, after years of asking, her father finally caved in. The Baileys decided to get a golden retriever from a breeder in town. They went together and picked out a dog to buy. Before the dog was old enough to be picked up by the Baileys, it died from an unknown cause. The breeder apologized and allowed them to choose another from the same litter. With their playful puppy Andy finally at home, Carol could not be happier. She spent hours each day playing with him, walking him, and even trying to teach tricks to him, although ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One option is to cut out the popular sire effect and close breeding and to limit the amount of line breeding. Breeders should switch out dogs instead of sticking to one sire or one pair of dogs, as it limits the diversity of the genes. Another option that is becoming more popular is breeding two purebreds together to create a hybrid breed like the Labradoodle, which is a cross between a Labrador retriever and a poodle. This option adds variety to the gene pool while also keeping some traits from both breeds. This option, like any, is not 100% effective because dog breeds can have common health problems. If dogs are bred after doing research on the common health problems, it can result in a healthy mixed breed with a more diverse gene pool. While there is no certain way to get rid of all health problems associated with inbreeding, other than to stop putting value on purebreds altogether and moving toward mutts, steps to prevent further inbreeding must be taken to improve the quality of life for future generations of purebred ... • 41. Freeman Lobotomy Essay Psychosurgery is often called neurosurgery for the mental ill/disordered. It was said that the surgery could destroy brain tissue and eliminate the symptoms of mental illness all together. Even though it was first used by Gotttlieb Burckhardt it was not a popular procedure until American neurologist Walter Freeman. Freeman had a specific form of psychosurgery and that was lobotomy. Freeman believed that it could cut certain nerves and eliminate excessiveness of emotions and stabilize a personality. The first every U.S. lobotomy was on a Kansas housewife in 1936. The goal and purpose of lobotomy was to help schizophrenia, depressed, bipolar disorder, and other mental illness patients. The procedure is very freighting sounding. The surgeon/doctor ... His stepmother is actually the person who took him to see Freeman simply because she wanted to do away with him. She told Freeman that her step son did not react to love or punishment, does a good deal of day dreaming and when asked says I don t know , and objects going to bed but sleeps well. She took him to numerous doctors everyone told her the same thing except Dr. Freeman. Other doctors said he was just a typical young boy while Freeman said otherwise. Freeman told her that the only way to fix her stepson was by a lobotomy. She informed the doctor that he had to talk to Dully s father and convince him the procedure would be beneficial. Surely enough the next time Dully s step mom took him to see Dr. Freeman, Howard Dully would be sitting in a chair with what Dully calls ice picks in his eyes. Dully never really talked about his lobotomy growing up but he definitely felt like something was missing from his soul. He always wanted to know more about what happened considering he did not remember the procedure itself. It took Dully until he was 54 (studied for two years, now is 56) to begin to want to figure out exactly what happened, so he did just that. • 42. Bernard L. Madoff s Life Bernard L. Madoff was born into a family that had originally immigrated to the United States during the Great Depression. Bernard s parents, Ralph and Sylvia Madoff had originally tried their hands in the financial world unsuccessfully. His mother registered as a broker dealer in the early 1960s but the SEC forced her to close the business for failing to report her financial condition (like mother like son right). When Bernie was younger, he did not care for finance; he was focused mainly on his girlfriend Ruth and his high schools swim team. In his spare time Bernie would work as a lifeguard and save his money for later investments. After graduating high school, in 1956, he set off to college at the University of Alabama for a year and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some of these people included his brother Peter, who joined him in 1970 as the firm s chief compliance officer. Peter s daughter, Shana, became a rules compliance lawyer for the trading division of the company as well. Madoff also employed his three sons Mark, Andrew, and Roger who only worked there shortly before his death in 2006. Madoff s rise on Wall Street was from his beliefs, that seemed quite bizarre to many at the time, that stocks could be traded by people who never saw each other but were connected only by electronics. Madoff had invested in a lot of new electronic trading technology for his firm, which made it cheaper for brokerage firms to fill their stock orders. He even pioneered a controversial practice called payment for order flow. He would pay big players to send their customer orders to his firm instead of to the New York Exchange or other regional exchanges. A lot of buzz was made by floor traders at the traditional exchanges claiming that Madoff was in essence paying bribes, but Madoff insisted, The order flow payments were necessary to inject greater competition into the marketplace and reduce the near monopoly of the Big Board (Henriques, 2008). Madoff was not the household name among American investors, before the scheme, but within Jewish philanthropy in the New York area his wealth and growing reputation among market insiders was. • 45. Xi Jinping Personality Xi Jinping s cult of personality poses a threat to the stability of the Chinese nation as it both echoes Mao s godlike reverence and masks Xi s greater consolidation of power as he cracks down on corrupt officials, human rights, and the Chinese media. We were at a 7/11 in Hong Kong when I asked my girlfriend why she was staring at the news racks. He s not smiling like he does in the mainland. He seems so serious ... even a bit scary. Having come from Beijing, the only images of Xi my girlfriend had seen were pictures of him smiling as he plays football, standing in line to buy some pork buns like a regular customer, or looking affectionately at his wife Peng Liyuan as they prepare to greet world leaders (ChinaFile, 2016). These images, which the Communist Party promoted, lead to an obsession with China s new leader, culminating into a viral dance video which romanticised Uncle Xi s love of Peng Mama (Phillips, 2016a). This spawned more videos extolling Xi s brilliance, to the point where even the government was uncomfortable with a song comparing him to Mao as the saviour of the new Chinese nation (The Economist, 2016a). While on the surface this seems harmless, its similarity to Mao s cult of personality is enough to worry some spectators (The Economist, 2016a). This is especially considering how it was Mao and his fanatic cultists who plunged China into the Cultural Revolution a chaotic decade where millions were killed.
