First, Death Comes to Daulat Ram is steeped in the elements of folklore and supernatural
elements. Ranga, the son of old Daulat Ram always takes tea in the same restaurant. One day,
the barman receives the phone and searches out Ranga. Ranga then gets the news of his father s
illness. The barman tells Ranga about the call without asking him whether he is Ranga. It is also
noticeable that Ranga thinks that it may be a bad news. Then follows the description of the
supernatural atmosphere and happenings. Daulat Ram fell sick for several times. But this time,
Ranga experienced many different things. The sun is seen fighting hard with the big black
clouds. The trees in the garden had drooped in despair. There was no blowing wind. The house
looked widowed . The creeper on the walls had fallen down at many places. /there was uneasy
stillness and no one was seen around the house. This was unusual. Usually, the lawns of the
house were littered with children and maids. The chaprasi was not at his place and the telephone
had been taken away. Strangely enough, none was there except an old beggar sitting near the
entrance. Usually, Moti did not allow any beggar near the house. Moti was seen near the beggar
with puzzle in his eyes. The old beggar was not disturbed by the arrival of Ranga or by the sound of
his car. The

The Toothpaste Factory Got The Top People
Dedication To my parents, who gave me life and taught me the meaning of it. Both by accident.
Introduction Once upon a time, a toothpaste factory had a problem. They sometimes shipped
empty boxes without the tube inside. This was caused by the way the production line was set
up, and people with experience in designing production lines will tell you how difficult it is to
have everything happen with timings so precise that every single unit coming out of it is perfect
100% of the time. Small variations in the environment (which can t be controlled in a cost
effective fashion) mean you must have quality assurance checks smartly distributed across the line
so customers all the way down to the supermarket don t get angry and buy another product
instead. Understanding how important that was, the CEO of the toothpaste factory got the top
people in the company together and they decided to start a new project in which they would hire
an external engineering company to solve their empty boxes problem since their engineering
department was already too stretched to take on any extra effort. The project followed the usual
process: budget and project sponsor allocated, RFP and third parties selected. Six months (and $8
million) later, they had a fantastic solution on time, on budget, high quality and everyone in the
project had a great time. They solved the problem by using high tech precision scales that would
sound a bell and flash lights whenever a toothpaste box would weigh less

The City Of Seoul, Korea
Seoul, Korea is a significant globally influential city that has both a vast and profound history. The
city s establishment dates back over 600 years ago. From the depths of its physical and cultural
development to its present prominence in the financial world, the city is an excellent example in
defining and understanding the cities of today. The manners in which the city s infrastructures and
population interact with one another can also be explained through the lenses of an urban
sociological perspective to help further the understand of many different aspects that define
metropolitan life. From the various turmoil to the dramatic increase in development of the city life
establishment, the city of Seoulsets itself apart from many as an interesting city.
In its earlier days, Seoul was known as Han Yang. The city dates back to the year 1394, where
the Chosun/Joseson Dynasty recognized it as the new capital (Ko, 2005). Shortly after the city
was established, the Fortress Wall of Seoul was constructed, which was a circular wall made
from various stones, sticks and other materials that enclosed the capital. The wall was assembled
not only to define the boundaries of the new land, but also for security and operational purposes
(UNESCO). The purpose of the gate was also a way for the dynasty to signify and set itself apart
as a separate entity from the rest of the land. By 1405, the city was officially acknowledged as the
capital location the establishment of Han Yang

Essay Pip s Great Expectations
In the novel, Great Expectations by Charles Dickens, the main character Philip Pirrip, who is
known as Pip throughout the novel, has a series of great expectations that he goes through. The title
of the novel, as many other great book titles, comes with various meanings that are present in the
story. In the literal sense Pip s great expectationsrefer to the 19th century meaning, which involve
receiving a large inheritance. Meanwhile, on a deeper level Pip sets goals that he hopes to
accomplish in the future which could also be referred to as his great expectations . The title, with
these multiple meanings that are attached to it, ends up being ironic after all is said and done at the
end of the novel.

Pip then goes on to address the reader directly and explains that [t]hat was a memorable day to
[him], for it made great changes in [him], (Dickens 70). After meeting with Estella several times
and becoming extremely fond of her, despite her bipolar attitudes towards him, Ms. Havisham
suddenly decides to recompense Pip for his time and then tells him that he no longer has to
come back to the Satis House. Everyday after this, Pip continuously thinks of Estella and of how
he must become a gentleman in order to be at the same level as Estella and eventually marry her.
Another character Biddy (whose relationship to Pip is somewhat complicated) begins acting as
Pip s teacher and Pip says [w]hatever [he] acquired, [he] tried to impart to Joe, because [he]
wanted to make Joe less ignorant and common. Pip s plans to become a well mannered gentleman
to be worthy of high society and to be worthy of Estella s affection are two goals or great
expectations that Pip sets for himself that ultimately carry the plot of the novel along.
After being released from Ms. Havishams service, Pip becomes Joe s apprentice. Four years into
his apprenticeship, Pip is approached by a man who he vaguely remembers meeting once at the
Satis House. This man is Jaggers, a lawyer, who proceeds to tell Pip that an anonymous benefactor

Garrett Morgan Speech
Hello everyone and welcome to my new history channel, People of History. Today we will be
discussing a very important inventor, who was known for the creation of the gas mask and the
traffic signal, Mr. Garrett Augustus Morgan.
Before we begin, here are the two main sources that I used in researching for this video. And now
we will begin.
Morgan was born in Kentucky in 1877, the same year that Reconstruction would end in the south.
His father was a former confederate colonel named John Hunt Morgan and his mother was half
Native American and half African American.
Despite his sixth grade education, Morgan was blessed with the mind of a true inventor, as well as
ideas for entrepreneurship. While he worked in a textile factory, he learned the... Show more

His reason for making it was to save lives on the road, and reduce the chances of collisions on the
road. He wanted his invention to be used to tell cars when they could go, and when pedestrians
could walk across the street. This invention was recognized by General Electric, and led to the
company buying Morgan s patent in 1923.
Morgan s safety hood received praise and was used by many in the Northern states across hundreds
of cities. The hood was even sold to the United States Army and Navy, who would use this
invention during the First World War.
Despite success in the North, the southern states proved to be more difficult. Though his
invention received praise in the press in the year of 1916, Morgan was taken out of the story, and
there was only mention of the other men who went to save the men in the tunnel. After this
occurred it would take many years until Cleveland and the rest of the United States would fully
recognize Morgan s accomplishments. By the time of his death in 1963, he was recognized as a
hero of Lake Erie and restored to his rightful place in American history. Today, Morgan s inventions
have evolved through the years, and continue to be used to this very

The Epidemic Of Childhood Obesity
The epidemic of childhood obesity Childhood obesity is an important issue because of this
diseases impact over the past few years. With the changing of lifestyles, the production of
children who are not as healthy as they should be has increased. Due to these results, a
widespread of children being obese has occurred. The Center for Disease Control, CDC,
distinguishes between being overweight and being obese. Overweight simply means that the
weight is high compared to others in the same height category. According to the CDC, obesity
means an excessively high amount of body fat . . . in relation to lean body mass (CDC). There
are so many factors of childhood obesity. Some might say it s the parent and some might say that
it s from advertisements. Childhood obesity can be a combination of factors scientific, genetic,
cultural, or even environmental. The debate over childhood obesity and its factors has been going
on for decades. The CDC estimated that around one out of three children are obese and the
numbers are on the rise. Obesity affects around seventeen percent of children in the United States.
There are many other factors that can cause children to be obese like no exercise, eating junk food,
being lazy, also the child s surrounding can affect them. Some people may argue that the lifestyle
changes are bigger contributions to the rising number of childhood obesity. There are many serious
diseases that can a result from being obese. Although advertisements targeted

Analyzing Psychological Disorders: Understanding Schizophrenia and Biopsychological Case
Studies of Anxiety and Drug Abuse
Let us discuss and dive into the study of a disease called schizophrenia. We will be taking a look at
its symptoms, its causes, the areas of the brain it affects, its neural basis, and the appropriate drug
therapies for the disease. Having an informed understanding of the disease and what it entails is
crucial to making sure patients that suffer from schizophrenia receive the proper treatment and
care from their psychiatrists. Afterwards, we will also be looking at a couple of case studies
involving anxiety and drug abuse. As for now, our focus will be on the terrible disease of
schizophrenia.
PART A:
We shall begin with a bit of its history, as well as what schizophrenia actually consists of. The
word schizophrenia is less than one hundred years old, and means the splitting of psychic
functions. It affects only about one percent of the world s population, however those it does affect
are comprised of all races and cultures, and socio economic factors have no effect on who
developments schizophrenia. It typically has an onset of late adolescence to early adulthood.

students, 53.5% are female and 46.5% are male. We currently have 2.5% of our students being
served in a gifted program. Our dropout rate is at 3.5% which I believe to be fairly good
considering many students come to us after dropping out of their original school. We serve
0.07% as English language learners and 14.57% receive Special Education Services. Overall we
have an economically disadvantaged percentage of 24. We do offer Title 1 services to students

Regression In Dorian Gray
Dorian Gray, the protagonist of the novel, is an example of male youth and beauty. He attracts
the attention of two men: a painter named Basil Hallward who creates his masterpiece in the
form of Dorian, and a nobleman Lord Henry Wotton who influences Dorian to become a
tenacious pleasure seeker. Lord Henry convinces Dorian that his youth and beauty is waning
and resultantly, Dorian curses his painting saying If it were I who was to be always young and
the picture was to grow old... I would give my soul for that! (Wilde 28) This curse starts the five
stages of moral regression within Dorian Gray that ultimately leads to his demise. In the
beginning of the novel, Lord Wotton introduces Gray to the philosophy of the new Hedonism,
where only good thing to do is seek out pleasure, not morality, and do whatever feels good.
Dorian takes this to heart. Dorian falls in love with Sibyl Vane, an actress which tests his
devotion to his new found philosophy. However, Dorian s love is shallow as he lonely loved her
acting. He tells Sibyl I can t see you again. You have disappointed me. (Wilde 92). Dorian breaks
Sibyl s heart and drives her to suicide. This is the first stage of moral regression: knowledge and
Ignorance. Dorian is ignorant of the facts that are placed in front of him and continues on with his
life blissfully ignorant. The next day, face on the canvas has changed, and Dorian has a moment of
crisis. Dorian is horrified that the image on the canvas has changed. This

Comparing Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde
The Metamorphosis and the Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, by Franz Kafka, and Robert
Louis Stevenson respectively, center around two protagonists who encounter some physical and
mental transformations, and confusion of identities. While Kafka s novella shows the innocence
and noble traits hidden in Gregor Samsa, Stevenson s novellasuggests that Dr. Jekyll is motivated
by the darkness of his soul. Both protagonists escape their realities through transformations, in
which Dr. Jekyll seeks to find an exit from the judgment of society , and Samsa desires a life that
does not take away his individuality.

The Beauty Of Nature By Mary Shelley
The beauty of nature is often overlooked and underappreciated in today s society. The neglect
and lack of respect given to such a beautiful creation by members of society is widely reflected in
Romantic poetry. The romantic era began in 1798, where writers such as William Wordsworth
and Samuel Taylor Coleridge expressed their opinions and feelings towards nature. Overall such
writers typically express a positive outlook on the natural world around them, however some stray
the other way. Specifically Coleridge and Wordsworth began to express the feeling of disconnect
towards nature. Both writers began to feel as though they could not understand nature and cannot
connect with the beauty it gives off as expressed in poems such as Dejection , London 1802 , and
Lines Composed a Few Miles Above Tintern Abbey . Not only did some of these writers begin to
feel a disconnect but a select few also begin to feel as though people are disrespecting the balance of
nature and are trying to disrupt the balance and manipulate it. Writers such as Mary Shelley, author
of the novel Frankenstein, expresses the concern of people taking the laws of nature and twisting
them. Writers and people living during this time period not only express an appreciation for nature
but also the truth about the human relationship with nature. The relationship between humans and
nature is on of mistreatment. Overall the romantic period expresses a writers feeling towards nature

her two daughters. The first daughter, Maggie, still lives at home with her mother and is her

world. The story is an account of one of Dee s visits, but the narrator, the mother, makes a very
obvious comparison between Dee and Maggie s looks, intelligence, behaviorism, and values. The
reader has a lesson to learn since the story is told through the mother s eyes. It is amazing that two

Although she is jealous of her sister, Maggie more admires her than anything. It is, however,
upsetting that the narrator never suggests Dee has any admiration or respect for Maggie or
herself, for that matter. The story never even suggests that Dee feels sorry for Maggie, instead it
can be interpreted that Dee just looks down on her sister, as she does the rest of her family.
The reader can also learn about the girls from how they treat others. Just like everything else,
they are opposites. Dee would always look anyone in the eye. Hesitation was no part of her
nature (92) while Maggie walks chin on chest, eyes on ground, feet in shuffle (94). Mama also
knows that while her sister is there Maggie will be nervous and stand hopelessly in corners,
homely and ashamed of the burns scars down her arms and legs (92). While Maggie has always
felt inferior, Dee seems haughty and kind of has a superiority complex. Dee is also implied to
be manipulative. Dee would read to her mother and Maggie knowing it was literature beyond
their comprehension just so she could show off. She used to read to us without pit; forcing
words, lies, other folks habits, whole lives upon us two. She washed us in a river of make

Stephen Crane Symbolism
Stephen Crane is one of the most important writers in American history. He has an incredible
influence and has a gift for writing great stories about war. There is no one that quite has his
natural skill for describing wars in the most vivid detail. He explains them so well, though one
might believe that he was there for the wars he is describing in writings. While, it is, in fact, the
exact opposite and he was never been in the army, navy, or any form of military. He just based
his writings off of his knowledge of war and stories he heard about them. What makes his stories
so special, is his perfect use of symbolism and the effect they add to his writings. Symbolism
must first be defined to understand Crane s use of it in his writing. Symbolism is when one thing
is used to represent a broader idea or emotion (Gray). This is the perfect definition for symbolism
and will help to understand Crane s use of it in the writings. Crane uses some symbols in these
ways throughout his writings; losing a limb, hero and courage, and color. The first example of
symbolism that Crane used in his writings was the symbol of losing a limb. Losing a limb meant a
lot more than that simple fact. First, for one to completely understand this symbol, the background
must be established. As soon as one is shot in a limb, such as an arm, hand, led, or foot, then they
know with certainty that they will lose that limb. The others cried out also when they saw the blood

Calpurnia Help Response
In a well organized response, compare the traits displayed by the maids in The Help to those of
Calpurnia. You need to use at least 3 quotes from TKMB that support the qualities represented by
Calpurnia.
The Help Response
Calpurnia in To Kill a Mockingbird is very respectful and loyal. This is very much comparable to
the movie The Help when Aibileen tries to be very loyal to Celia by taking care of her child.
Calpurnia had taken care of Scout also like Aibileen had taken care of Celia s child. The difference
is that Calpurnia is more involved in the family. She is very much loved by everyone there in the
family while as Aibileen takes care of Celia s child without Celia spending much time with her
daughter. Calpurnia responds when the family

Character Development In Frances Goodrich s Diary Of Anne...
Throughout stories a lesson of some kind is taught and characters develop and grow. Diary of Anne

play based off of the diary that Anne kept while they were in hiding. While they are hiding Anne

the world differently.
Anne is childish in many ways at the beginning of the play. When they first start living together

Deficiencies Of Supervisory Skills At Public Library
Executive Summary The aim of this report is to analyse deficiencies in supervisory skills at the
Burbs Public Library. This report will give a critique on the actions of the supervisor who made
significant changes to staffing and operational procedures in the department, provide
recommendations on how the process can be improved to avoid similar challenges in the future,
as well as provide information and guidance to current and future supervisors. Problems were
identified when significant modifications were made by the supervisor to the loans section of the
library over a short period. The changes included reorganisation of the part time roster and work
areas, revision of the flexible working hours for full time staff and revision of the loans procedure
manual. The errors lie not so much in the changes themselves, but in the application of the changes.
There was a lack of strategic and long term planning, with no prior consultation with staff. There is
evidence the supervisor lacks the skills to make effective and sustainable decisions as well as
undertake practical problem solving. The outcome of this scenario is disruptive and distressing with
some of the staff finding the changes untenable due to other commitments and indicate that they
will resign or request transfer, the changes to the work area are impractical and the clients are
complaining to staff about the new procedures for loaning books. The report recommends that the
supervisor concerned be given training

The Crucial Role Of Music In The Elizabethan Era
Have you ever wished you could go back in time to see what music was like? Well, while writing
this research paper, I did by learning what music was like back in the Elizabethan Era. In the
Elizabethan Era, music played a crucial role. Music was very important because a lot of it was
played, which fulfilled the lives of the people, and it influenced some people to make and sell music
. Music also gave people joy, which entertained them and made them happy.
Music back in the Elizabethan era was very important for mainly one reason, it gave people
entertainment. One of the ways that music was used for entertainment was in theatres, which was
what influenced music. As stated in go.galegroup.com, Music was also used to accompany the

As stated in one book, Music was everywhere, in the home, at court, on the stage, at church

popular, which made more people begin to play or listen to it. Music also made people very
happy because there was not just one type of music, there was many. As stated in
go.galegroup.com, There were different types of music, church, street, house musicians and
theatre music . Lastly, people were very happy because music provided a variety of uses. As
stated in go.galegroup.com, Music was essential at court as the queen was a patron of composers
and musicians. At court many forms of music was played, including traditional English ballads,
church music, dance music and madrigals . This shows the importance of music because music
would not be that popular if it only had one use. To conclude, music made people very happy in
the Elizabethan era because it was everywhere, there were many types of music, and because music

Every year you still march down that street with that stupid proud expression on your face, you
glorify the bloody wastefulness of that day? ? Act 2, Scene 3, The One Day of the Year. Hughie
(the son of the war veteran with the controversial ideas about the meaning of Anzac day) mentions
about the mistake that cost sixty thousand lives. The Anzacs were expecting to battle on large
plains and were trained to do so. Instead of finding the flat beach they expected, they found they
had been landed at an incorrect position and faced the steep cliffs of the Turkish Peninsula
constantly under fire from above as they strived to entrench themselves at the base of the cliff.
They faced a well organised, well armed, large Turkish force determined to defend their country.
Every year on the 25th of April Australia commemorates this mistake. It is remembered like it
was a victory but to many it is viewed as a waste of good men, young and old who died,
sacrificing everything for there country. The Soldiers who fought for their countries should in
some people?s opinion be viewed as heroes. They risked their life for the freedom of their
country. Some believe that the battle at Gallipoli was not Australia?s war and that we were
invading someone else?s countries for another countries cause. But what bravery the young soldiers
showed to do so. To represent their country and fight in a battle against seemingly impossible odds,

The Causes Of Valley Forge
Imagine living under brutal conditions in a rundown, secluded fort, far away from home and
knowing that you could die at any minute. What would you do? During the winter of 1777 to
1778, George Washington s Continental Army set up their post at Valley Forge, a military camp
18 miles northwest of Philadelphia. It was not big enough to be called a village it only had a few
fieldstone houses and a mill for forging iron. The Quaker farms in the area offered good food and
support for Washington s men, so they accepted. However, as the days went by, they realized that
maybe that hadn t been such a good idea. The soldiers in the Continental Armyshould have left
Valley Forgebecause of deathand illness, living conditions in camp (lack of food and clothing),
and resentment towards Congress. Although Thomas Paine s words of encouragement in the
American Crisis were inspirational, this didn t change the fact that the soldiers were suffering
due to the extreme conditions in the camp. To begin, the soldiers should have left Valley Forge
because there were many soldiers who began dying of death and illnesses that spread across camp.
Noel F. Busch states that, by February 1, 1778, 3,989 out of 8,000 soldiers were sick , which was
approximately 50% of the total population (Busch, 1974). According to researchers, the low
estimate of soldiers who were dying in that year (1778) was 1,800 out of 8,000 people, which was
roughly 1 person dead for every 2 soldiers (10%). Finally, at the end

Food Stamps: Why We Need Reform, And How To Do It
Mornings without breakfast transition to nights without dinner, but the situation does not change
for America s poor and needy. The face of food insecurity is often invisible. Behind lowered blinds
and shut doors, poverty establishes itself in many styles and we attempt to defeat it in numerous
ways. Food assistance programs are the primary tool the government uses to alleviate the hunger
pangs and empty diets caused by nutrition insecurity. Increased government oversight is generally
not helpful, but in the case of America s SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), such
government management would probably do good. Right now, there is an array of problems facing

While such images have some truth to them, they are widely unrepresentative of actual SNAP
misuse. No doubt, there is still discrepancy in some places, as in Georgia, where prosecutors
busted a small country store at the center of forty six hundred dollars worth of food stamp fraud
(Severson, 2013). That is just one example of the fading but worrying trend of misuse. The
government has put many efforts into effect, and these do seem to be partially responsible for
the decreasing trend [citation needed]. Arguably, the most important measure taken was the
movement from paper food stamps to electronic accounting, known as the Electronic Benefit
Transfer, or EBT. Zekeri (2004), in his paper on college students using SNAP, states that
Although the data presented here are limited, one conclusion seems clear: the goals of EBT
reducing theft, fraud, and social stigma or embarrassment in the food stamp program are being
met. Just in the period 2002 2005 (EBT was implemented nationwide in September 2004), food
stamp fraud was reduced by over 50% from the 1999 2000 period, even as SNAP usage increased

William Lackey s The Scandal Of Jewish Rage In William Styron
Having a Sophie s Choice is a term that has become infamous after the publication of William
Styron s Sophie s Choice in 1979. It is a noun that describes choosing between two difficult
decisions that have the same outcome. In the story there is a writer living in New York who
meets an odd couple, Sophie Zawistowaska and Nathan Landau. They are lovers, but in the story
Sophie s past in Auschwitz is revealed in greater detail. Through that, it is revealed that Sophie s
Choice was the unforgivable act of Sophie choosing her son over her daughter, leaving her daughter
to die in the extermination camp. In Sophie s Choice there is evidence of violence, explicit sexual
content, and offensive language, but the effect the Holocausthas on characters of different
backgrounds causes this to be a text that should be taught in a high schoolclassroom. The main
themes found in Sophie s Choice include the Holocaust, mental illness, friendship and betrayal.
The Holocaust is seen prominently in this story because it was what the one of the main
characters, Sophie Zawistowaska, had to live through. Her lover Nathan Landau had trouble with
substance abuse, and he was also a paranoid schizophrenic. This was a theme that troubled some
people. Nathan was a much scrutinized character. In Lackey s The Scandal of Jewish Rage in

Of Mice and Men is a novel of hopes and dreams that get broken or shattered. This is evident

The concerns and problems of the people living in nineteenth century England differed dramatically
from those that eventually challenged those living in the same place during the 20th century.
During the nineteenth century the English were plagued with many epidemics, but lacked the
knowledge and capability to successfully treat and eliminate these diseases. London, like other
British cities, had appalling sanitary conditions. These conditions were responsible for a ... Show

Further, they questioned whether a common strand was responsible for the fever which
accompanied all of the diseases. In attempting to answer these questions the physicians of the
period examined such factors as: (1) dependence upon certain atmospheric conditions; (2)
obedience to similar laws of diffusion; (3) all infesting the same localities; (4) all attacking the
same classes of people; and (5)all increased in severity in unsanitary conditions. (Pelling, 64).
The General Board of Health of London produced a report on cholera in 1850. The primary
purpose of the report was to indicate that the pattern of the epidemic had confirmed the predilations
of the metropolitan sanitary commissioners. That is, that cholera could be prevented if closer
attention was paid to sanitary conditions. Specifically, if problems such as overcrowded living
conditions, filth, dampness, dirty water, drain pipes in poor condition, and improper storage and
preparation of food were addressed. (Pelling, 78).
In order to understand the epidemics which dominated the nineteenth century one must listen to the
voices of the time. These voices speak of factory workers being forced to work incredibly long
hours in filthy conditions for very little money, several families living together in one room
apartments with no running water.

Leningrad Cemetery, Winter of 1941 Analysis Essay

Sharon Olds Leningrad Cemetery, Winter of 1941 is a very sad and dreary poem. This is
because Olds writes about the Battle of Leningrad, a 900 day siege of Leningrad during World
War II, and the lifelessness that is going on afterwards. Olds word choice throughout the poem is
very important to the meaning of this poem. The way that she writes about this battle paints a very
clear picture in my mind of what she is describing. Many times thorough the poem, Olds compares
life and death many times with different comparisons. Olds starts off the poem by saying: That

Though, the cocoon comparison could also mean that the battle was a turning point in the war.
This is because Russia gained momentum against Germany with that victory, which did start a
new life in the war. A hand reaching out/ with no sign of peace, wanting to come back (15 16) is
another comparison of life to death. Olds is saying that the lifeless corpse is still making a
gesture saying that the dead would return if they could at any price. She says that those people
who died in the battle, the corpses, would do anything even to the bread make of glue and
sawdust, / even to the icy winter, and the siege. (18 19) I think that the moral of this poem is that
life is precious, and that life should never be taken for granted. I think this is because the whole
poem is comparisons between life and death, and because she says that the people who have
passed away would do anything possible to come back to life, even under the worst conditions, to
be loved, to love, and to be with the people they

  • 3. The Toothpaste Factory Got The Top People Dedication To my parents, who gave me life and taught me the meaning of it. Both by accident. Introduction Once upon a time, a toothpaste factory had a problem. They sometimes shipped empty boxes without the tube inside. This was caused by the way the production line was set up, and people with experience in designing production lines will tell you how difficult it is to have everything happen with timings so precise that every single unit coming out of it is perfect 100% of the time. Small variations in the environment (which can t be controlled in a cost effective fashion) mean you must have quality assurance checks smartly distributed across the line so customers all the way down to the supermarket don t get angry and buy another product instead. Understanding how important that was, the CEO of the toothpaste factory got the top people in the company together and they decided to start a new project in which they would hire an external engineering company to solve their empty boxes problem since their engineering department was already too stretched to take on any extra effort. The project followed the usual process: budget and project sponsor allocated, RFP and third parties selected. Six months (and $8 million) later, they had a fantastic solution on time, on budget, high quality and everyone in the project had a great time. They solved the problem by using high tech precision scales that would sound a bell and flash lights whenever a toothpaste box would weigh less ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In its earlier days, Seoul was known as Han Yang. The city dates back to the year 1394, where the Chosun/Joseson Dynasty recognized it as the new capital (Ko, 2005). Shortly after the city was established, the Fortress Wall of Seoul was constructed, which was a circular wall made from various stones, sticks and other materials that enclosed the capital. The wall was assembled not only to define the boundaries of the new land, but also for security and operational purposes (UNESCO). The purpose of the gate was also a way for the dynasty to signify and set itself apart as a separate entity from the rest of the land. Morgan was born in Kentucky in 1877, the same year that Reconstruction would end in the south. His father was a former confederate colonel named John Hunt Morgan and his mother was half Native American and half African American. Despite his sixth grade education, Morgan was blessed with the mind of a true inventor, as well as ideas for entrepreneurship. While he worked in a textile factory, he learned the... He wanted his invention to be used to tell cars when they could go, and when pedestrians could walk across the street. This invention was recognized by General Electric, and led to the company buying Morgan s patent in 1923. Morgan s safety hood received praise and was used by many in the Northern states across hundreds of cities. The hood was even sold to the United States Army and Navy, who would use this invention during the First World War. Despite success in the North, the southern states proved to be more difficult. Though his invention received praise in the press in the year of 1916, Morgan was taken out of the story, and there was only mention of the other men who went to save the men in the tunnel. After this occurred it would take many years until Cleveland and the rest of the United States would fully recognize Morgan s accomplishments. By the time of his death in 1963, he was recognized as a hero of Lake Erie and restored to his rightful place in American history. • 13. Regression In Dorian Gray Dorian Gray, the protagonist of the novel, is an example of male youth and beauty. He attracts the attention of two men: a painter named Basil Hallward who creates his masterpiece in the form of Dorian, and a nobleman Lord Henry Wotton who influences Dorian to become a tenacious pleasure seeker. Lord Henry convinces Dorian that his youth and beauty is waning and resultantly, Dorian curses his painting saying If it were I who was to be always young and the picture was to grow old... I would give my soul for that! (Wilde 28) This curse starts the five stages of moral regression within Dorian Gray that ultimately leads to his demise. In the beginning of the novel, Lord Wotton introduces Gray to the philosophy of the new Hedonism, where only good thing to do is seek out pleasure, not morality, and do whatever feels good. Dorian takes this to heart. Dorian falls in love with Sibyl Vane, an actress which tests his devotion to his new found philosophy. However, Dorian s love is shallow as he lonely loved her acting. He tells Sibyl I can t see you again. You have disappointed me. (Wilde 92). Dorian breaks Sibyl s heart and drives her to suicide. This is the first stage of moral regression: knowledge and Ignorance. Dorian is ignorant of the facts that are placed in front of him and continues on with his life blissfully ignorant. The next day, face on the canvas has changed, and Dorian has a moment of crisis. Dorian is horrified that the image on the canvas has changed. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Symbolism is when one thing is used to represent a broader idea or emotion (Gray). This is the perfect definition for symbolism and will help to understand Crane s use of it in the writings. Crane uses some symbols in these ways throughout his writings; losing a limb, hero and courage, and color. The first example of symbolism that Crane used in his writings was the symbol of losing a limb. Losing a limb meant a lot more than that simple fact. First, for one to completely understand this symbol, the background must be established. Diary of Anne Frank takes place during the Holocaust in Amsterdam. Since Anne and her family are Jewish they are hiding from the Nazis along with another family. Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett wrote the play based off of the diary that Anne kept while they were in hiding. While they are hiding Anne grows and changes. Anne Frank changes throughout the play because she matures and thinks about the world differently. Anne is childish in many ways at the beginning of the play. When they first start living together Anne often listens to Mr. and Mrs. Van Daan when they argue. Anne commented, I have never seen grownups quarrel before. I thought only children ... Most kids her age would never think that their lives don t matter because they think the world revolves around them and she is incredibly mature to think the opposite of that. In another part of the play while Anne and her family are being taken away to be killed by the Nazis, Anne writes in her diary, In spite of everything, I still believe that people are really good at heart, (434). For someone who is so young and who has been through what she has and still think that people really are good is amazing. • 29. Deficiencies Of Supervisory Skills At Public Library Executive Summary The aim of this report is to analyse deficiencies in supervisory skills at the Burbs Public Library. This report will give a critique on the actions of the supervisor who made significant changes to staffing and operational procedures in the department, provide recommendations on how the process can be improved to avoid similar challenges in the future, as well as provide information and guidance to current and future supervisors. Problems were identified when significant modifications were made by the supervisor to the loans section of the library over a short period. The changes included reorganisation of the part time roster and work areas, revision of the flexible working hours for full time staff and revision of the loans procedure manual. The errors lie not so much in the changes themselves, but in the application of the changes. There was a lack of strategic and long term planning, with no prior consultation with staff. There is evidence the supervisor lacks the skills to make effective and sustainable decisions as well as undertake practical problem solving. The outcome of this scenario is disruptive and distressing with some of the staff finding the changes untenable due to other commitments and indicate that they will resign or request transfer, the changes to the work area are impractical and the clients are complaining to staff about the new procedures for loaning books. The report recommends that the supervisor concerned be given training ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hughie (the son of the war veteran with the controversial ideas about the meaning of Anzac day) mentions about the mistake that cost sixty thousand lives. The Anzacs were expecting to battle on large plains and were trained to do so. Instead of finding the flat beach they expected, they found they had been landed at an incorrect position and faced the steep cliffs of the Turkish Peninsula constantly under fire from above as they strived to entrench themselves at the base of the cliff. They faced a well organised, well armed, large Turkish force determined to defend their country. Every year on the 25th of April Australia commemorates this mistake. It is remembered like it was a victory but to many it is viewed as a waste of good men, young and old who died, sacrificing everything for there country. The Soldiers who fought for their countries should in some people?s opinion be viewed as heroes. They risked their life for the freedom of their country. • 32. The Causes Of Valley Forge Imagine living under brutal conditions in a rundown, secluded fort, far away from home and knowing that you could die at any minute. What would you do? During the winter of 1777 to 1778, George Washington s Continental Army set up their post at Valley Forge, a military camp 18 miles northwest of Philadelphia. It was not big enough to be called a village it only had a few fieldstone houses and a mill for forging iron. The Quaker farms in the area offered good food and support for Washington s men, so they accepted. However, as the days went by, they realized that maybe that hadn t been such a good idea. The soldiers in the Continental Armyshould have left Valley Forgebecause of deathand illness, living conditions in camp (lack of food and clothing), and resentment towards Congress. Although Thomas Paine s words of encouragement in the American Crisis were inspirational, this didn t change the fact that the soldiers were suffering due to the extreme conditions in the camp. To begin, the soldiers should have left Valley Forge because there were many soldiers who began dying of death and illnesses that spread across camp. Noel F. Busch states that, by February 1, 1778, 3,989 out of 8,000 soldiers were sick , which was approximately 50% of the total population (Busch, 1974). According to researchers, the low estimate of soldiers who were dying in that year (1778) was 1,800 out of 8,000 people, which was roughly 1 person dead for every 2 soldiers (10%). The face of food insecurity is often invisible. Behind lowered blinds and shut doors, poverty establishes itself in many styles and we attempt to defeat it in numerous ways. Food assistance programs are the primary tool the government uses to alleviate the hunger pangs and empty diets caused by nutrition insecurity. No doubt, there is still discrepancy in some places, as in Georgia, where prosecutors busted a small country store at the center of forty six hundred dollars worth of food stamp fraud (Severson, 2013). That is just one example of the fading but worrying trend of misuse. The government has put many efforts into effect, and these do seem to be partially responsible for the decreasing trend [citation needed]. Arguably, the most important measure taken was the movement from paper food stamps to electronic accounting, known as the Electronic Benefit Transfer, or EBT. Zekeri (2004), in his paper on college students using SNAP, states that Although the data presented here are limited, one conclusion seems clear: the goals of EBT reducing theft, fraud, and social stigma or embarrassment in the food stamp program are being met. Just in the period 2002 2005 (EBT was implemented nationwide in September 2004), food stamp fraud was reduced by over 50% from the 1999 2000 period, even as SNAP usage increased [citation needed (FNS)]. Overall, among the most vulnerable members of society SNAP, the National School Lunch Program, and the School Breakfast program, have all been remarkably successful at their core mission: reducing food insecurity among low income schoolchildren [citation needed]. It is a noun that describes choosing between two difficult decisions that have the same outcome. In the story there is a writer living in New York who meets an odd couple, Sophie Zawistowaska and Nathan Landau. They are lovers, but in the story Sophie s past in Auschwitz is revealed in greater detail. Through that, it is revealed that Sophie s Choice was the unforgivable act of Sophie choosing her son over her daughter, leaving her daughter to die in the extermination camp. In Sophie s Choice there is evidence of violence, explicit sexual content, and offensive language, but the effect the Holocausthas on characters of different backgrounds causes this to be a text that should be taught in a high schoolclassroom. The main themes found in Sophie s Choice include the Holocaust, mental illness, friendship and betrayal. The Holocaust is seen prominently in this story because it was what the one of the main characters, Sophie Zawistowaska, had to live through. Her lover Nathan Landau had trouble with substance abuse, and he was also a paranoid schizophrenic. This was a theme that troubled some people. Nathan was a much scrutinized character. The primary purpose of the report was to indicate that the pattern of the epidemic had confirmed the predilations of the metropolitan sanitary commissioners. That is, that cholera could be prevented if closer attention was paid to sanitary conditions. Specifically, if problems such as overcrowded living conditions, filth, dampness, dirty water, drain pipes in poor condition, and improper storage and preparation of food were addressed. This is because Olds writes about the Battle of Leningrad, a 900 day siege of Leningrad during World War II, and the lifelessness that is going on afterwards. Olds word choice throughout the poem is very important to the meaning of this poem. The way that she writes about this battle paints a very clear picture in my mind of what she is describing.
