The Negative Consequences Of Socrates
Socrates (467 399) was the first poor philosopher. He is well known for dialoguing and entering into
study by asking questions, which is the basis for the Socratic Method. Also known for vehemently
speaking out againstwriting, Socrates never wrote any of his philosophies down. He believed that
writing made people intellectually lazy, and instead of expanding their capacity for memory, made it
smaller. This is a very interesting thing to consider, since many people will write things down instead
of committing them to memory because it is easier. Socrates was against the teaching of ideas without
dialogue, which he believed writing tried to attempt by preventing people from really engaging the
subject matter on their own. However, I think that the benefits of writing far outweigh the negative
consequences of it. Without writing, humans would have a limited way of passing information on,
especially in communication with those in other parts of the world, and in the future. Interesting, as a
result of his distaste for writing, any information about Socrates philosophies that we have come from
other people who recorded his ideas, most notably Plato (427 347). Plato decided to write out Socrates
many dialogues, even though he knew of Socrates critique of writing. It is possible that he did not
believe writing out Socrates dialogues was wrong since it does encourage readers engagment in the
information as it is written in a conversational style. So what made Socrates enter

Libertine Values in the 18th Century
The succession of libertine values in the 18th century was in largely a result of the Puritan Movement
in the late 17th century, which brought in a trend of individualistic models for social engagement
(Willey 10). Furthermore this religious instability generated a new vein of philosophical thinkers and
revitalized the need for independent growth. During this time we see the introduction of several key
writers that provide a timestamp of the effects of libertine and individualistic values on the 18th
century including Wycherley, Locke, Rochester, Pope, and Pepys. Each writer provides a slightly
different take on the changes that occurred during this time period and by piecing together common
elements of each, a unified impression of the individual begins form. When the picture of the
individual is shaped, perspectives into the commonly held beliefs and criticisms begin to surface,
which foster a glimpse into 18th century life. One particular area of interest is how individuals in this
time period viewed the environment as new moral values began to take hold and the individual
became less concerned about the population (Willey 10). Individuals in the 18th century held the
environment to a higher degree of importance as is evident in the works of a number of writers and
their focus on the individual, religion and morality, and nature.
To begin, consider the account of the individual in the 17th in a time when a predominantly catholic
regime saturated the developed societies in

Roman Life Research Paper
Comparing Sculpture and Painting in Roman Life
Introduction
When contemplating the art forms of sculpture and painting, in ancient Rome, one has to consider not
only how they differ in form but also how they differed in use. Although both art forms were used for
a sense of status, one is deeply rooted in realism and the other in fantasy. In order to compare these
two distinct art forms, I will first look at them individually and discuss their uses in Roman life, then I
will draw conclusions based on my findings.
Discussion
Following the Second Macedonian War, (200 197BCE), the influence of Greek sculpture was greatly
felt in Rome and many imitations of Greek brass sculptures were being reproduced in marble for
Roman patrons. The Greeks emulated the Egyptians in their pursuit of the ideal male physical form,
the kouros, or youth, often sculpted in the form of an athlete or a god. Roman sculpture evolved, with
a strong influence from the sacred wax imagines, portraits of ... Show more content on

Pompeii and the surrounding areas around Mount Vesuvius are where many are found well preserved,
after being buried for so many years. The paintings can be classified into distinct styles; the first style
are paintings done to imitate the marble panelling found in wealthy homes (Ambler, n.d.). The second
style uses illusion to trick the eye; architectural forms such as columns and masonry, windows over
looking imagined gardens, vases sitting on shelves, tables that seem to project from the wall. With the
use of depth perception, and shadow, mythological scenes and fantastic animals seem to recede into
the space of the wall (Metropolitan Museum of Art, 2004). The third style portrays exotic and stylized
architectural elements depicted on a flat colored surface. And finally, the fourth style incorporates all

Hydroelectric Power
Electricity is used everywhere in our lives. Electricity give life to our homes, our television sets, our
computers, and other electronic devices. Electricity also is used for charge our batteries, the batteries
that keeps our cars running, our control remotes working, our laptops, our flashlights to keep shinning
in dark, and even cell phones. Electricity is the energy that can produce sound, light, heat and many
more. Many devices and artifacts we use every day, not only in our homes even in the industries,
depends on electricity. But, how we get the production of electricity? Well, fortunately I found that
hydroelectric is one of the cleanest and efficient ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As we all know, every construction has his advantages and disadvantages. This is why there are
multiples version of many constructions, because they want to find the one with less disadvantages
and more advantages. And this case, hydropower has many advantages that we benefit a lot of it,
while also has disadvantages. One of the advantages that hydropower has is that it doesn t pollute the
air like power plants that burn fossil fuels, such as coal or natural gas. Which means that it does not
produce carbon dioxide and a construction like this does not create carbon monoxide fumes, nuclear
waste or other environmental hazard materials. Another advantage of a hydropower is that is available
as needed, because engineers can control the flow of water through the turbines to produce electricity
depending upon the demand. Other of the advantages is that hydropower use water, one of the Earth s
most abundant resources, and it s fully renewable. The rivers, streams, and lakes that hydroelectric
power sources use to generate power are always flowing and moving about on their own, and the
turbine simply pass the power and sends it out to the needed areas. One of the disadvantages is that
large reservoirs required for the operation of hydroelectric power stations result in submersion of
extensive areas of upstream, which cause destructive biological rich and productive lowland. Another
disadvantage is that when changes in the amount of river flow correlate

Use Of Ethos In Any Given Sunday
Using Rhetoric on Any Given Sunday One of the most inspirational speeches from the movie Any
Given Sunday, directed by Oliver Stone, occurs during a football team s pre game warm up. In the
movie, there is a fictional professional football team who is struggling to bring home any wins for
their home town. The speech is delivered by the head coach who is played by Al Pacino. At the end of
his speech, the team s coach has proven how effective the use of ethos, pathos, and logos can be.
The method in which the coach uses to deliver his message really came from the heart. He uses ethos,
pathos, and logos to persuade the football team that they have the ability to win the game. The coach s
speech begins with ethos by creating a strategy for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This ultimatum could be included in all three methods of persuasion, ethos, logos, and pathos. Ethos is
a miniscule role in this particular phrase. The team s coach has been in their shoes in the past and
knows what they have to face, ergo his credibility. The logos plays into the ultimate decision: whether
or not to admit defeat. In the quote Inch by inch, play by play. Until we re finished, (Pacino, Any
Given Sunday) we see a coach telling his team what they must do in order to be successful. Lastly,
pathos is the largest player of the game. The men on this football team, including their coach, all are
very passionate about the game they play. It is an emotional experience for them all because of how
much they care for football and for each other. The mere thought of the season being over because of a
loss is not the way these men want their season to end, and they are going to fight for it, We claw with
our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when add up all those inches, that s gonna make the
fucking difference between winning and losing! (Pacino, Any Given Sunday). Finally, this quote
shows the amount of emotion that the speakers put into some of his last few words to his team. That
quote is similar to the final punch in a boxing match; this quote is what got the football team riled up

form an underlying foundation for many of the tensions between Sierra Leone which contributed to
the initial lack of economic prosperity for the settlement of freed slaves. Initial interactions founded
these tensions. Newly arrived freed slaves that settled in colonies in Sierra Leone employed local
Africans to help with building their settlements. However, despite this aid, the strains on the settlers in
terms of disease and disorder caused the initial settlements to fail. After this failure, more freed slaves
attempted to settle again at a different time of the year. They were warned that if they behaved
improperly, local African rulers would take them and sell them on slave ships (Braidwood 1994).
Indigenous Africans challenged this arrival of settlers and aggravated them, and settlers requested
defense supplies from Europe for fear of being massacred (Braidwood 1994). One of the shortfalls of
Thompson s perspective is that he seems to be unaware of the magnitude of the tensions between
indigenous Africans and freed slaves. Tribal chiefs led movements in resistance to European influence,
and Thompson is largely ignorant of this. The Temne chiefs who sold Freetown to British abolitionists
initiated a series of misunderstandings that would later incite conflict between the groups. This
founded some of the conflicts between indigenous Africans and Europeans, but Tribal chiefs were not
only provoked by European influence. The decline of the slave trade also meant that tribal

A Interview About A Former Florida Atlantic University...
As I reflect on my life, I can t imagine my life without sports. Sports is my passion and the one thing
that keeps me sane and happy. This assignment has showed me the love I have for sports and how it
consumes my whole life. My whole life revolves around it. As I am sitting down writing this paper, I
am listening to an interview about a former Florida Atlantic University football player who is now
dealing with life after the NFL. His name is Christian Milstead, a 2015 Exercise Science and Health
Promotion graduate. After the 2015 NFL draft, Milstead was invited to take part of the Green Bay
Packers rookie minicamp. Unfortunately, he wasn t one of the 300 people who made it on a NFL
roster. Milstead, however, life is going great. Of course, he would love to be playing on Sundays, but
he is enjoying life as a Personal Trainer Director for one of LA Fitness locations in South Florida. I
thought coming out of college I would working for a network or an organization as a sports reporter.
Seven months later, I am still trying to adjust to life as a teacher. Every day I miss waking up every
morning to go and report on FAU. I was a sports director for FAU s student media outlet OwlTV and I
was more of a sideline reporter than a director. I enjoyed reporting about the football players trying to
get to the next level which was the NFL or former NBA veteran Michael Curry attempting to bring
success to the men s basketball program. Since April, I have put down the microphone, mainly

History And Evolution Of The Anti Feminist Movement Essay
In this paper, I will be exploring in depth the history and evolution of the anti feminist movement as a
reaction to feminism in the United States. As a background, I will provide a brief summary of the
feminist movement and it s relation to anti feminism. Then I will go into the anti feminist movement,
and it s origins, background, and main supporters. Although anti feminism was founded as a backlash
movement, it actually sparked another wave of movements itself, those of which I will explore as
well. Lastly, I will look at how anti feminism has evolved over time, and it s impact on society and
feminism as a whole. Although feminism in the United States can be dated back to the early 18th
century, any movements or advocates during that time were scarce, and the societal influence
accomplished was little to none. The feminist movement didn t really start to get started until the 19th
century. 19th century through mid 20th century feminism is considered First wave feminism, which
includes the suffrage movement, education reform, workplace reform, and the beginning of the Equal
Rights Amendment (ERA) movements (Harding, 1981). The first wave of feminism peaked and is
said to have ended with the passage of the 19th Amendment, giving women the right to vote, and
putting an end to the highly influential suffrage movement. Second wave feminism is the period of the
feminist movement which took place from mid to late 20th century into the 21st century (Harding,
1981). This period

The Age Of Enlightenment By Voltaire
1. Do some research on Voltaire and his beliefs as well as the era in which he wrote, which was the
Age of Enlightenment. Be sure to cite your sources of information.
The Age of Enlightenment occurred from the 1620s until the 1780s. This movement began in England,
and steadily spread almost worldwide before long. The term Enlightenment was used to contrast the
Dark Ages, a time in which innovation and free thinking was at an all time low. Voltaire s French
philosophy included free thinking and the struggle for defense of civil liberties, in which he uses
almost every known literary form, including novels, poetry, and performance art such as plays. His
intellectual skepticism of traditional beliefs and dogmas denotes an illumined contrast to the supposed
dark and superstitious character of the Middle Ages.

2. Satire is a literary genre in which human vices, folly, and flaws are ridiculed or mocked, often with
the intention bringing about change. How do Voltaire use techniques such as irony, sarcasm, and
understatement for his satirical purposes? Give some examples from throughout the book.
Voltaire uses irony and satire in many different situations during the story. A prime example of these
literary forms can be found in the form of religion, for example when the Catholic Inquisitor speaks
against his own ideals and keeps a mistress, and a Franciscan friar who operates as a jewel thief, even

Mexican War On Drugs
Critics outside and inside of Mexico who are witness to the casualties of the Mexican War on Drugs
are keen to blame Felipe Calderon s administration (the Mexican government) for the escalation of
conflict within the country starting in 2006; arguing that the fast militarization and the lack of the state
s strength augmented such conflict. In the article Did the Military Interventions in the Mexican Drug
War Increased Violence? by Valeria Espinosa and Donald B Rubin; the statistics analysts, studied two
articles from a leading Mexican magazine Nexos, both with the same conclusion, that military
interventions had increased homicide rates in those states where intervention took place (Espinosa and
Rubin, 17). The results, although it was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is evidence of correlation between conflict and military intervention. But according to the
studies, military intervention s increase in conflict was only a short term issue, initially, military
intervention upset the local balance in power between cartels and local police which is particularly
relevant if these bodies were infiltrated by organized crime thereby increasing the violence in the short
term (Espinosa and Ruin, 26), but that the same interventions decreases the homicide rates in the long
term. Thus military intervention is not the cause of conflict in the form of homicide rates, but rather in
the change in power in local authorities. But can one still blame the Mexican government for the
increase of conflict? According to Michel Coscia and Viridiana Ríos, President Calderón did not start
the Mexican Drug War and violence did not start because of the interactions of two or more cartels
operating in the same territory (Ríos, 22). By implementing a computerized search algorithm, they
both developed Coscia and Ríos went through all of Google s database to search any information that
was ever been published online and indexed by Google News in national or local press as well as in

Drug Cartel Trafficking The drug cartel has been a problem for the United States, as they import

The Antamina mine, was the underlying asset of this bidding process which included 40 bidders;
though that number was steadily dwindling, and by June of 1996 was down to only a handful serious
contenders. Within the copper mining industry, there were three dominant players, RTZ CRA,
Noranda, and a joint venture of Inmet Mining and Rio Algom. These three were believed to be the
primary bidders. All three had ancillary mineral mining practices aside from copper, as well as other
areas of business. RTZ CRA was the largest of these three, and was believed to be the best positioned
to prevail on the bidding. The other bidders were smaller in capital but had the same level of mining
experience. The joint venture of Rio Algom and Inmet had only $1.5 billion combined market
capitalization, but Inmet had a healthier capital structure and less financial risk which created a lower
cost of capital. The bidding rules reduced the sensitivity of capital and created comparative advantages
for smaller players. For RTZ CRA to execute on their bid and acquire Antamina at a strategically
economic price, they would have to have made the decision of whether this property would provide
long term economic and strategic value. Since their footprint was global, they would be unable to
introduce certain synergies based on asset proximity of their other properties. Antamina would most
likely have to be acquired and operated as a stand alone project. Internal

Employee Teacher Reflection
Portfolio
It has now come to my understanding that as a trainee teacher, it is vital that I become a reflective
practitioner when fostering the role of a teacher. In support of this, Tripp (2012, p.12) adds that being
reflective is an essential part of the development of professional judgement . He continues to state that
one must be able to examine and critique their teaching to build on their own professional values and
ideas.
It is through this theory that as a trainee teacher, I must be able to examine my own critical incident
from my school based training placement (SBT1). I will be employing Tripp s four approaches of
analysis Thinking Strategies, The Why? Challenge, Dilemma Identification and Personal Theory
Analysis (Tripp, 2012, pp. 43 54). However, before I start my analysis, it is important to identify what
a critical incident is. Tripp (2012) states that critical incidents are shaped by the way we look at a
situation. He further adds that a critical incident is an interpretation of the significance of an event (p.
8).
The context of my incident took place in a year four class within the Borough of Barking and
Dagenham. It consisted of me teaching a whole class Literacy lesson where the majority of the pupils
were considered or categorised as having English as an additional language.

Therefore, I believe that some students may have preferred working with a group on such a significant
project. The fact that students would be allowed to work with people from different backgrounds and
with different personality types to complete a project would equate with real world experience. The
opportunity to work with people is why the practicum is such a valuable experience. However, one

Research Paper On Freshwater Invertebrates
While most people thinking of invertebrates for the aquarium are thinking of marine invertebrates,
there are a surprising number of freshwater invertebrates that make excellent tank inhabitants. Many
freshwater invertebrates do not require large amounts of space, making them ideal for Nano tanks or
even goldfish bowls. Some eat algae or uneaten fish food, while others are stunningly beautiful.
Sometimes such useful attributes even belong to the same creature. However, freshwater invertebrates
don t always have the same requirements as fish and the requirements differ considerably between
different species.
Freshwater Shrimp
Freshwater shrimp are probably the most decorative freshwater invertebrates. There are many species,
each with its own color pattern and mode of life. As most species are small, they do not require much
space. Freshwater shrimp are harassed or eaten by many fish species so tank mates must be considered
carefully. I tried keeping Cherry Shrimp with a Pygmy Gourami and regretted the decision. The
Gourami harassed my shrimp and probably caused the death of two of the five. Endler s Livebearers,
however, coexisted peacefully with the shrimp.

Beethoven 5th Symphony Analysis
INTRODUCTION
My composer is Ludwig Van Beethoven who was a German composer and pianist. Beethoven lived
during the transition from the Classical era to the Romantic era. He was a primary leader in the
transition between the two eras. During his life the Encyclopedia Britannica was released. The
American Revolution started and the US signed the Declaration of Independence. The Rosetta Stone
was found in Egypt and the US declared war on Great Britain.
EARLY LIFE
Beethoven was born on December 16, 1770 in Bonn Germany. Throughout his childhood his father
was a heavy drinker and beat him into practicing music. His father even locked Beethoven in the
cellar and deprived him of sleep just to get a couple more hours of practice. His first recital call little

The Human Of Bone Marrow Transplantation
It should be noted that marrow grafting could not have reached clinical application without animal
research, first in inbred rodents and then in outbred species E. Donnall Thomas, The Nobel Prizes,
1990 Animal research, as mentioned by Dr. E. Donnall Thomas in 1990 during his Nobel Prize award,
has been crucial for the understanding of bone marrow transplantation (BMT) as a clinical therapy
138. His studies extensively used both mice and dogs as animal models. Other important models used
in BMT research are rats, cats, pigs and non human primates. The mouse is an excellent animal model
because of the similarities in physiological and pathological traits that they share with other animals
and humans. The field of BMT research has taken full advantage of these qualities, and mice have
become one of the most commonly used BMT animal models. Transplantation (organ and
hematopoietic) began in the early 20th century1. Several studies published between 1949 1953 139
141 documented that organs removed and immediately transplanted back into the same individual
(autotransplants) were not rejected. However, organs from genetically different animals but from the
same species (allografts) would eventually fail several days after transplantation. After the
identification of the antigens that comprise the major histocompatibility complexes (MHC) in the
1960 s, transplantation between genetically different individuals became feasible 1. In the veterinary

The Concept Of Individual Rights
The concept of individual rights refers to the freedom each individual possesses to pursue life without
interference from other individuals or the government. A community is a collection of said
individuals, with common interests and values, who take up community responsibilities to ensure that
the collection holds objective standards that are beneficiary to all. Even though these concepts are
intrinsically linked, in that one cannot survive without the other, there is often a desire to separate
them and define where one ends and the other begins. Human social life can often be seen as a unity
of two seemingly contradictory behavioral ideas: status competition and reciprocity. Status
competition is the practice of striving to establish ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Considering the teacher student relationship between Socrates and Plato, similarities between the two
s philosophies are quite obvious, though they might be conveyed in different ways.
In The Apology, Socrates presents his defense to his jurors when on trial for teaching nontraditional
philosophies and, allegedly, affecting the community adversely. In this account, Socrates explains that
his behavior stems from a prophecy by the oracle at Delphi which claimed that he was the wisest of all
men. Recognizing his ignorance in most worldly affairs, Socrates concluded that he must be wiser
than other men only in that he is aware of his own lack of knowledge. In order to spread this peculiar
wisdom, Socrates explains that he considers it his duty to question supposed wise men and to expose
their false wisdom as ignorance. In a famous passage, Socrates says that God specially appointed him
to the city, as though it were a large thoroughbred horse which because of its great size is inclined to
be lazy and needs the stimulation of some stinging fly (The Apology, 30e). Without him to rouse,
persuade, and reprove the community, Socrates claims society is liable to drift into a deep sleep of
unproductive activity and ethical laziness. When people ask why Socrates cannot quietly mind his

Comparing Christianity and Stoicism Essay
Introduction Over the course of human history every society, even the most culturally isolated of
civilizations, has developed some form of faith system for interpreting and understanding the spiritual
and material worlds. Thousands of such systems have existed over the centuries, and as tribes and
cultures expanded, these faith systems inevitably met each other face to face and clashed. Two
thousand years ago there was a particularly important collision; one between the Roman stoic and the
gentile Christian. At this time in Western civilization, Christianity was just planting its seeds and
beginning to grow, whereas stoicism was already legitimate in its foundation and strong in its
following (Stavrianos 100). One might wonder ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In doing so, some fundamental conclusions can be drawn pertaining to the eventual succession of
Christianity over stoic thought. Christianity and Stoicism: Logic, Physics, and Ethics
In terms of logic, Christianity can be understood in three parts. Initially, there is the undeniable
doctrine of the Trinity, which teaches that God, as revealed in the Old and New Testaments, actually
exists in three persons. In essence, God is the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit all at once.
However, Jesus is not the Father, nor is he the Holy Spirit; He is separate, and yet they are all God.
Mathematically this makes no sense. If one considers that God=A, God=B, and God=C, it logically
follows that A=B=C. An intellectually honest person questions if the Trinity is truly logic at all. As a
matter of fact, this particular dogma has no true Biblical origin. The concept of the Trinity does not
even arise until the formation of the Nicene Creed (Metzger 90). This is interesting to note though, for
it was primarily used to falsify the so called heretical systems that rivaled it (Metzger 782). A second
main tenant of Christian logic is the idea that the Bible is inerrant. In other words, all scripture is God
breathed, and as such, what is written was done so in accordance with His will, and thus, must be true
(2Tim 3:16). This argument is often used

The And Public Health Policies
For years, it has been assumed by the vast majority of health care experts that everyone knows the
guiding principle of ethics in healthcare. Everyone agrees that this guiding principle has the solid
endorsement of the majority of the population. These presumptions are accepted with almost no
contention or debate. In Justice in Medicine and Public Health, Rosamund Rhodes argues that no
single conception of justice explains the array of broadly endorsed medical and public health policies.
This thought challenges the classical approach of defining or defending one accurate view of justice in
medicine. There are many different views of justice in health care that have been developed and
debated. However, it is clear that no one view of the distribution of the scarce resources and services
fits every situation. Aristotle defined justice as giving each his due. While this thought has its fans,
others prefer a more idealistic view of justice in the field of health care. One of these philosophies,
utilitarianism, defines justice as policies and procedures that produce the best outcomes. During times
of emergency, it is acceptable for health professionals to practice triage medicine. The practice of
triage medicine represents the goal of avoiding the worst outcomes and not the utilitarian view of the
best possible outcome. Furthermore, the aim of public health research is to collect information that
may or may not be useful. The quest to gather information also appears to

STATE, POLITICAL ECONOMY AND GOVERNANCE ASSIGNMENT WORK Submitted by:
Mohit kumar M.A. (P), SOCW10137 QUESTION: encountering state and citizenship in your
everyday life . ANSWER: Definitions of State: Many scholars have defined state in various ways.
Even today modern day scholars attempt to define state taking into account its modern functions. In
4th century B.C. Aristotle, who is regarded as `Father of Political Science‟ had defined state.
According to him, state is a union of families and villages having for its end a perfect and self
sufficing life, by which we mean a happy and honourable life. According to some scholars, this
definition is so comprehensive that it can hardly be improved upon. Aristotle‟s definition
communicates the primary objectives of the state however we must study some more definitions of the
State. Holland: State is a Politically organized people of a definite territory. Prof Woodrow Wilson,
`State is a People organized for law within a definite territory.‟Though these two definitions

The Religious Text Of The Qur An
Many people Muslims as well as non Muslims have written much about The Holy Qur an. Their topics

of the Qur an are a reflective writing of God s revelation and intention of human as in the religious
text of the Qur an. The chapters emphasize more on the conduct of man (in this case human being);
social and moral. It is a descriptive discussion of the world, and how things have been schemed

Everything in the universe is dependent on God and no being live or not can do without Him. God
sustains everything in the universe (1) and man is expected to wholly depend on Him and be aware of
this unseen being. The Qur an teaches it is rational and reasonable to have faith in the omnipotent and
merciful God, as He is central to human existence. He is part of creation and not detached in any way
to it and man s main purpose is to serve him diligently. It comes as a God s command that every being
must adhere to the teachings of the Qur an as they carry the intent and the expectations of God to man.
In His ways of helping man, God shows mercy by sending him messengers and through revelations
(9). Through this man is expected to understand and be aware of God s existence and conduct himself
as deserved. In this way, man is guided and judged on the correct way to keep close and the laws of
nature expresses what God commands him to do. In Chapter four of the book, man has been given a
free choice and a unique responsibility, which can only be achieved through sole dependence on God
(68 69). The free choice is the only difference between Him and the rest of the nature. The monotheist
relationship has specified the way to maintain that close relationship as only one; to depend on Him
and through obeying Him.

relationship is tied along a creed in that human actions define

The Role Of National Character And The Political Institutions
During the 1800s, the concept of national character was a subject of development and discussion,
especially in France. Many philosophers had an agreement in general that each nation was/had unique
characteristics, but there are many opinions as to what makes a national character. There was a lot of
focus on the spiritual and physical characteristics and their role in shaping the national traits. These
philosophers had a different perspective on the relationship between the national character and the
political institutions. The concept of national character expanded in its significance in regards to its
importance and complexity from a political standpoint. At the beginning of the 1800s, the national
character idea was viewed as a historical fact and towards the end, it was viewed as a current force of
politics that required some fostering to reforms. This led this idea to moving from the realm of
speculation to a more theoretical realm with a practical applicability. This paper is going to analyzing
the concept of national character from the implications on France in the 1800s and its perspective of
the French philosophers.
A national character is defined as an expression that gives a description of all forms of collective self
perception, conduct as well as collective self perception that are shared by the various individuals

A Case Of A Correctional Officer Essay
They went further on to inform us that only a pretrial would be taking place, since a new information
being submitted by a correctional officer was to be debated as to whether it was substantial enough to
be admitted as evidence. Moreover, because we arrived earlier than the original time for the Riker s

heard from what the judge, prosecutor and a different defense attorney were discussing. Since I could
retain very little information from that trial, I took a quick glance at the interior structure of the court
room. To accurately present the surroundings of the court room without interrupting the ongoing trail,
I imagined myself standing at the door we entered through to the room. With my back facing the door,
I pictured the room as having seats arranged much like how churches have long chairs that could
occupy a number of individuals, a long aisle that separated the seating into sections of right and left
with the male and female prosecutors of the cases chairs and computers in front of the seats on my
right and the defense attorneys with their clients on the left. The seating sections for observers had
ropes in front of them, separating them from where the prosecutors, lawyers, defendants, judge,
security and the juror were seated. Both the right and left seats had the first roll of seats cleared by the
security with have no sitting on them, a phenomenon that I still

The 1992 film Unforgiven, directed by and starring Clint Eastwood, has a central theme that is one of
good versus evil in which good overcomes evil by bringing justice to those who are evil. Munny has
changed from the vicious murderer he was in the past and now wishes to bring justice to evil men who
harmed the innocent prostitute Delilah and his friend Ned. The film is not quite the traditional Western
film by any means as Eastwood s character Will Munny has not always been a moral man.

man or a vicious killer with a terrible and violent past. The idea that extreme violence is the answer to
injustice is what makes Unforgiven still fit into the western genre of film. In the film, good eventually
wins out by any means necessary, including the use of violence. Will Munny thinks he will not go
back to his acting like his younger self, the vicious and violent killer, if he attempts to bring justice.
Munny even attempts to act humanely after killing a man who harmed Delilah by telling making sure
the dying man gets a final drink of water. However, he is quickly proven wrong when his friend Ned is
murdered. Munny and Ned see themselves as just doing the right thing by trying to bring justice but
when Munny is beaten and Ned is murdered, it is clear that violence is the only answer for Little Bill
and his men. Munny turns back to his gun slinging days and kills all the men on Little Bill s side
without remorse. It could be argued that Munny changes from good to evil in an instant in order to

Auschwitz Concentration Camp During World War II
The Auschwitz Concentration Camp INTRO: The Auschwitz Concentration camp was the largest
active camp run by the Nazis during World War II. Built in 1940, on the ground of former Polish
towns and neighborhoods. The Nazis bulldozed the houses and built the camp. Most of the camp
consisted of Slave labor and execution facilities. The camp had gas chambers, medical facilities, and a
crematorium. The camp consisted of three sub camps: Auschwitz I, Auschwitz II, and Auschwitz III. It
also had many minicamps that were used to hold extra prisoners. The Nazis committed atrocities at all
their concentration camps, but Auschwitz was the worst. The Holocaust was one of the worst acts of
murder and cruelty from one group of humans to another.
Beginnings of the camp. The land where the Auschwitz concentration camp stands was land once
owned by regular people who lived in regular neighborhoods. They probably had a peaceful life, with
not much to worry about. That was about to change. Once the Nazis invaded Poland and killed all of
the Polish government officials so that they had complete control of Poland. They then demolished

evident that dengue (DEN) viruses can trigger the host cell to undergo apoptosis in a cell dependent
manner. Virally induced apoptosis contributes directly to the cytopathogenic effects of DEN virus in
cultured cells. The induction of apoptosis involves the activation of intracellular signaling systems.
The cellular factors that regulate cell death can adjust the outcome of DEN virus infection in cultured
cells. Apoptosis inhibitors delay DEN virus induced apoptosis, thereby providing a suitable
environment for the virus. During DEN virus infection, cell death is also regulated by the harshness of
the infecting strains. Overall, the purpose this research provides information on the cellular
mechanisms and viral proteins associated with apoptosis in response to DEN

Essay on Western Influence on Chinese Music
Western Influence on Chinese Music
China has long been the cultural hub of Asia, and has had the longest amount of contact of any Asian
country with other Western countries. Ever since the Silk Road was established, China has been
trading with other Western countries and exchanging aspects of their cultures with one another. One of
these aspects is music. But how exactly has Western music influenced Chinese music? In order to
understand this, we must look at the history of Western encounters with China in terms of music.
European music was first introduced into China during the thirteenth century, which was part of the
Yuan dynasty of China. Catholic missionaries introduced Western music to the Chinese imperial court.
Soon, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She and the Chinese pop music industry flourished in China until the 1950s, when the Communist
regime led by Mao took over. Pop music was replaced with revolutionary music with government
propaganda, which caused the pop industry to move to Taiwan and Hong Kong. This new musical
presence in Hong Kong indirectly led to the creation of Cantonese popular music, also known as
Cantopop.
Cantopop is a style of popular music that emerged during the 1970s. It was influenced by Western folk
rock music of the 1970s, and is set up in a rock band layout with heavy use of electronic instruments,
such as the electric guitar and synthesizer. Perhaps the most famous Cantopop singer of all time,
Teresa Tang, emerged during the 1980s. Her music touched the hearts of people all over the world,
and caused the Communist regime in China to shift their policy of music from just supporting
government propaganda to include expressing individual emotions. Since then, many Cantonese pop
singers have emerged and this genre remains famous even today.
While some musicians used Western genres, such as Western pop music and jazz, as the basis of their
music, other musicians stuck with the traditional Chinese music style while adding Western elements
to it. Due to the popularity of Western music in China, the popularity of traditional Chinese music
diminished, and many traditional Chinese musicians were afraid that traditional music would
eventually fade away. Their solution to this problem

Relational Database Analysis
Relational database normalization is the process of decomposing relations with anomalies to produce
well structured relations. This paper delves into relational database normalization giving the reason
why a database schema in third normal form is considered to be of higher quality than an un
normalized database schema.
Relational database normalization entails organizing database and it includes the creation of tables as
well as relationships establishment between the tables using designed rules intended to protect the data
as well as make the database to be flexible. This is achieved through the elimination of redundancy as
well as inconsistent dependency. Redundant data is known to waste the space of the disk thereby
creating problems of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this second normal form level, deficiencies which are transitive are removed. Third normal form
satisfies the condition which requires that the relation to be in the second normal form. Another
condition that it full is that it must not have transitive dependencies within the relations in the
database. Transitive dependency occurs if an attribute is found to be functionally dependent on the key
in an indirect manner. In this level, remaining functional dependency anomalies is removed. Boyce
Codd Normal requires that the relation to be in third normal form and that every determinant is
supposed to be a candidate key. In this level, multi valued dependencies are removed. A relation is in
fourth normal form is it has a composite key and its key attributes have no multi valued dependencies.
In the fourth normal form, the remaining anomalies are removed. Fifth normal form is a generalization
of the fourth normal form. It states that if a relation can be decomposed into the lossless join of several
relations, then it should be so decomposed. The fifth normal form concerns dependencies that are
obscure (Colomb, R. (2003)
A database schema in third normal form is considered to be of higher quality than an un normalized
database schema because the third normal form ensures that

Buffalo Bill Annotation
The American frontier is an era of great pride and taming of the nature with the will to conquer.
American society is taught to never give up and peruse one s dream, to value that dream and do
whatever it takes in order to achieve it. Although this provides a double edged sword for society as it
can be the will on one side, but also be the downfall on another. For if any person is supposed to truly
resemble the American frontier, then Buffalo Bill would be that image. Yet, in a Native American
perspective, his double edged sword is a continually growing downfall for the culture. Sherman Alexie
s poem Evolution shows an ever growing dived in reservations around America and the effects from
its own poison. For when Buffalo Bill opens a pawn shop on the reservation, natives flee to the shop
in order to pawn their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is the perspective also into the past as well. For when the actual Buffalo Bill was born, indigenous
groups further west were ousted from their lands just like those in the East. The sun essentially sets on
the rise and fall of the Native people in this poem because it shows how a white man came into a
reservation and caused the same 200 hundred year old pain again. Not only is there that pain, Buffalo
Bill has the bill that Native Americans pay in order to destroy their own legacy. The reservation only
gets smaller as the Natives leave and the blood toxicity lessens while the blood alcohol levels increase.
True indigenous people and their descendants are essentially evolving into a new breed of people, and
the only relict to show their presence is when Buffalo Bill closes the pawn shop and paints a new sign
over. Calling it the THE MUSEUM OF NATIVE AMERICAN CULTURES. Yet to even know about
such information, Buffalo Bill requires that one pay the bill, and this only results in seeing the things
the same Native people had just

Successful Class Assessment
Within a high school, there is a great divide. It separates the successful students, those were doing well
and all of their classes, from the unsuccessful students, those who are barely passing their classes or
struggling to get passing. The qualities that the successful students have that the unsuccessful students
have not yet mastered are the ability to be attentive in class, the initiative to organize all aspects of
their school life, and the intuition needed to ask the right questions. These are the bricks in the
foundation of one s achievement. To elaborate, the first step to getting good grades and doing well on
class assessments is to being able to absorb all the given information in class. The most fundamental
way to ensure this occurs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
the purpose of asking meaningful questions is to insure that a subject is understood. Asking questions
helps to avoid later confusion. I can relate personally to this attribute because, ask anyone who knows
anything about me, and they will inform you of how inquisitive I am. I ask questions often to ensure
that there are no gray areas. For example, I was once given an assignment in an English class and I felt
the instructions weren t clear so I asked for a rubric. Turns out, my instructor had forgotten to hand out
the rubric and she also confessed that it would have been 10 times more difficult to complete the
assignment without this handout. That is one out of many times where asking questions was useful. In
addition to gathering information, asking questions will encourage free communication between the
student and the teacher. The fact that a student is asking questions shows that they re humble enough
to admit that they don t know everything, and teachers admire this. It also shows the craving for
knowledge which teachers always love to see in their

My Purpose Of The World Is Always Changing And So Are People
My Purpose
The world is always changing and so are people. People today never see how they evolve physically,
spiritually and educationally. The never question their purpose of living or do they? For many years I
have been puzzled to what my purpose in life is. People need to know what their purpose in life is to
continue living. Growing up in the south during my time was not so bad, but listening to my parents
and grandparents I believe it was pretty rough. This is where my educational phase of life begins to
form my purpose. My parents named me Melody and of course my name means a sequence of notes
that are put together to form a beautiful sound. My grandparents firmly believed that music can be a
positive change for people. In history James Brown created a song called I am black and I am proud.
Naturally the song convinced some people to be proud of their race. I thought as a teenager I could
sing a song and even be a star one day. I perform in front of friends and family until my first talent
show gave me a reality check. I did ok but I was not good enough to win, so I left that talent alone. I
only song in church.
This is where my spiritual phase continued to direct my destination of knowing my purpose. I was
raised in the A.M.E foundation and still to this day I go to the same church. My grandmother and
mother both were on the choir. I joined the choir after I turned sixteen. I was also raised to have a
strong relationship with the lord and I do. Every person may

Great Apes Extinction
This article captured my attention because extinction is a major problem that occurs around the world
with the increase in carelessness of people. great apes are beloved animals that are integral to nature,
and the extinction of the great apes can be devastating to the balance of nature. Great apes are animals
that are not often thought to be extinct because they are such as well known species of animal, so the
fact that four out of six great apes are nearing extinction is a big problem. This article also captured
my attention because the title makes a very broad and serious claim. Saying that four out of six great
apes are one step towards extinction is very serious and makes it seem like the majority of the great
ape population will be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There seemed to be a widespread decline in the Eastern Gorilla species, they moved from the
Endangered list to the Critically Endangered list. The rapid decline in the species of great apes had to
be due to a certain factor. In the investigation, researchers accounted for the loss of great apes, the
population decline was more than 70% in 20 years and now the population is fewer than 5,000. With
this data set, the researches were able to interpret the data and realize a rapid decrease in population.
Accounting for the reduction in population is the best way to asses the problem of the nearing
extinction. There currently are laws that are in place on the killing and capture of great apes. It is
illegal to hunt great apes but the main reason they are declining rapidly is due to hunting. This is also a
pattern found in the reduction of population of different animals such as the once widespread Plains
Zebra . The Plains Zebra have been reduced to 24% in the past 14 years and were only found in
protected areas. For this reason, researchers were led to believe the majority of the population loss
were in non protected areas where the animals were hunted for bushmeat and

Business Strategies Of Sony Corporation
Introduction The purpose of this paper is to suggest investing in Sony Corporation, one of the most
recognized names in consumer electronics. Sony was established shortly after World War Two in the
form of an electronic manufacturing company (Sony). Around the 1990s, Sony converted itself from
an electronics manufacturer to a global entertainment company establishing a leading position in
music, movies and computer gaming (Sony Corporation Japan). With various sub divisions of the
company Sony remains versatile, with each department bringing in revenue. The divisions that make
up Sony includes Sony Electronics, Mobile Communications, Computer Entertainment, Pictures
Entertainment, Network Entertainment International, Music Entertainment, and Online Entertainment
(Sony). Using top business strategies, and improving product quality, assists in the persistent success
of the company. These products appeal to wide range of consumers due to the global diversity present
at Sony. In this paper I will be discussing these topics in depth to help support the reason why it would
be beneficial to invest in Sony. Business Strategies Corporate Governance Amongst Sony
Corporations business strategies lies corporate governance. Corporate governance retains one of the
more successful management strategies. These strategies allow managers to define their roles and
isolate the issues of ownership from management. As a result faster decision making occurs which

  • 2. The Negative Consequences Of Socrates Socrates (467 399) was the first poor philosopher. He is well known for dialoguing and entering into study by asking questions, which is the basis for the Socratic Method. Also known for vehemently speaking out againstwriting, Socrates never wrote any of his philosophies down. He believed that writing made people intellectually lazy, and instead of expanding their capacity for memory, made it smaller. This is a very interesting thing to consider, since many people will write things down instead of committing them to memory because it is easier. Socrates was against the teaching of ideas without dialogue, which he believed writing tried to attempt by preventing people from really engaging the subject matter on their own. However, I think that the benefits of writing far outweigh the negative consequences of it. Without writing, humans would have a limited way of passing information on, especially in communication with those in other parts of the world, and in the future. Interesting, as a result of his distaste for writing, any information about Socrates philosophies that we have come from other people who recorded his ideas, most notably Plato (427 347). Plato decided to write out Socrates many dialogues, even though he knew of Socrates critique of writing. It is possible that he did not believe writing out Socrates dialogues was wrong since it does encourage readers engagment in the information as it is written in a conversational style. So what made Socrates enter ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Libertine Values in the 18th Century The succession of libertine values in the 18th century was in largely a result of the Puritan Movement in the late 17th century, which brought in a trend of individualistic models for social engagement (Willey 10). Furthermore this religious instability generated a new vein of philosophical thinkers and revitalized the need for independent growth. During this time we see the introduction of several key writers that provide a timestamp of the effects of libertine and individualistic values on the 18th century including Wycherley, Locke, Rochester, Pope, and Pepys. Each writer provides a slightly different take on the changes that occurred during this time period and by piecing together common elements of each, a unified impression of the individual begins form. When the picture of the individual is shaped, perspectives into the commonly held beliefs and criticisms begin to surface, which foster a glimpse into 18th century life. One particular area of interest is how individuals in this time period viewed the environment as new moral values began to take hold and the individual became less concerned about the population (Willey 10). Individuals in the 18th century held the environment to a higher degree of importance as is evident in the works of a number of writers and their focus on the individual, religion and morality, and nature. To begin, consider the account of the individual in the 17th in a time when a predominantly catholic regime saturated the developed societies in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Roman Life Research Paper Comparing Sculpture and Painting in Roman Life Introduction When contemplating the art forms of sculpture and painting, in ancient Rome, one has to consider not only how they differ in form but also how they differed in use. Although both art forms were used for a sense of status, one is deeply rooted in realism and the other in fantasy. In order to compare these two distinct art forms, I will first look at them individually and discuss their uses in Roman life, then I will draw conclusions based on my findings. Discussion Following the Second Macedonian War, (200 197BCE), the influence of Greek sculpture was greatly felt in Rome and many imitations of Greek brass sculptures were being reproduced in marble for Roman patrons. The Greeks emulated the Egyptians in their pursuit of the ideal male physical form, the kouros, or youth, often sculpted in the form of an athlete or a god. Roman sculpture evolved, with a strong influence from the sacred wax imagines, portraits of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pompeii and the surrounding areas around Mount Vesuvius are where many are found well preserved, after being buried for so many years. The paintings can be classified into distinct styles; the first style are paintings done to imitate the marble panelling found in wealthy homes (Ambler, n.d.). The second style uses illusion to trick the eye; architectural forms such as columns and masonry, windows over looking imagined gardens, vases sitting on shelves, tables that seem to project from the wall. With the use of depth perception, and shadow, mythological scenes and fantastic animals seem to recede into the space of the wall (Metropolitan Museum of Art, 2004). The third style portrays exotic and stylized architectural elements depicted on a flat colored surface. And finally, the fourth style incorporates all three previous ... • 6. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Hydroelectric Power Aneudis Salcedo Prof. Kadik Physics 20 19 April, 2016 Research Paper Hydroelectric Power Electricity is used everywhere in our lives. Electricity give life to our homes, our television sets, our computers, and other electronic devices. Electricity also is used for charge our batteries, the batteries that keeps our cars running, our control remotes working, our laptops, our flashlights to keep shinning in dark, and even cell phones. Electricity is the energy that can produce sound, light, heat and many more. Many devices and artifacts we use every day, not only in our homes even in the industries, depends on electricity. As we all know, every construction has his advantages and disadvantages. This is why there are multiples version of many constructions, because they want to find the one with less disadvantages and more advantages. And this case, hydropower has many advantages that we benefit a lot of it, while also has disadvantages. One of the advantages that hydropower has is that it doesn t pollute the air like power plants that burn fossil fuels, such as coal or natural gas. Which means that it does not produce carbon dioxide and a construction like this does not create carbon monoxide fumes, nuclear waste or other environmental hazard materials. Another advantage of a hydropower is that is available as needed, because engineers can control the flow of water through the turbines to produce electricity depending upon the demand. Other of the advantages is that hydropower use water, one of the Earth s most abundant resources, and it s fully renewable. The rivers, streams, and lakes that hydroelectric power sources use to generate power are always flowing and moving about on their own, and the turbine simply pass the power and sends it out to the needed areas. One of the disadvantages is that large reservoirs required for the operation of hydroelectric power stations result in submersion of extensive areas of upstream, which cause destructive biological rich and productive lowland. Another disadvantage is that when changes in the amount of river flow correlate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Use Of Ethos In Any Given Sunday Using Rhetoric on Any Given Sunday One of the most inspirational speeches from the movie Any Given Sunday, directed by Oliver Stone, occurs during a football team s pre game warm up. In the movie, there is a fictional professional football team who is struggling to bring home any wins for their home town. The speech is delivered by the head coach who is played by Al Pacino. At the end of his speech, the team s coach has proven how effective the use of ethos, pathos, and logos can be. The method in which the coach uses to deliver his message really came from the heart. He uses ethos, pathos, and logos to persuade the football team that they have the ability to win the game. The coach s speech begins with ethos by creating a strategy for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This ultimatum could be included in all three methods of persuasion, ethos, logos, and pathos. Ethos is a miniscule role in this particular phrase. The team s coach has been in their shoes in the past and knows what they have to face, ergo his credibility. The logos plays into the ultimate decision: whether or not to admit defeat. In the quote Inch by inch, play by play. Until we re finished, (Pacino, Any Given Sunday) we see a coach telling his team what they must do in order to be successful. Lastly, pathos is the largest player of the game. The men on this football team, including their coach, all are very passionate about the game they play. It is an emotional experience for them all because of how much they care for football and for each other. The mere thought of the season being over because of a loss is not the way these men want their season to end, and they are going to fight for it, We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when add up all those inches, that s gonna make the fucking difference between winning and losing! (Pacino, Any Given Sunday). Finally, this quote shows the amount of emotion that the speakers put into some of his last few words to his team. • 8. Jacks Causes And Disadvantages form an underlying foundation for many of the tensions between Sierra Leone which contributed to the initial lack of economic prosperity for the settlement of freed slaves. Initial interactions founded these tensions. Newly arrived freed slaves that settled in colonies in Sierra Leone employed local Africans to help with building their settlements. However, despite this aid, the strains on the settlers in terms of disease and disorder caused the initial settlements to fail. After this failure, more freed slaves attempted to settle again at a different time of the year. They were warned that if they behaved improperly, local African rulers would take them and sell them on slave ships (Braidwood 1994). Indigenous Africans challenged this arrival of settlers and aggravated them, and settlers requested defense supplies from Europe for fear of being massacred (Braidwood 1994). One of the shortfalls of Thompson s perspective is that he seems to be unaware of the magnitude of the tensions between indigenous Africans and freed slaves. Tribal chiefs led movements in resistance to European influence, and Thompson is largely ignorant of this. The Temne chiefs who sold Freetown to British abolitionists initiated a series of misunderstandings that would later incite conflict between the groups. This founded some of the conflicts between indigenous Africans and Europeans, but Tribal chiefs were not only provoked by European influence. The decline of the slave trade also meant that tribal ... This assignment has showed me the love I have for sports and how it consumes my whole life. My whole life revolves around it. As I am sitting down writing this paper, I am listening to an interview about a former Florida Atlantic University football player who is now dealing with life after the NFL. His name is Christian Milstead, a 2015 Exercise Science and Health Promotion graduate. After the 2015 NFL draft, Milstead was invited to take part of the Green Bay Packers rookie minicamp. Unfortunately, he wasn t one of the 300 people who made it on a NFL roster. Milstead, however, life is going great. Of course, he would love to be playing on Sundays, but he is enjoying life as a Personal Trainer Director for one of LA Fitness locations in South Florida. I thought coming out of college I would working for a network or an organization as a sports reporter. Seven months later, I am still trying to adjust to life as a teacher. Every day I miss waking up every morning to go and report on FAU. I was a sports director for FAU s student media outlet OwlTV and I was more of a sideline reporter than a director. • 10. History And Evolution Of The Anti Feminist Movement Essay In this paper, I will be exploring in depth the history and evolution of the anti feminist movement as a reaction to feminism in the United States. As a background, I will provide a brief summary of the feminist movement and it s relation to anti feminism. Then I will go into the anti feminist movement, and it s origins, background, and main supporters. Although anti feminism was founded as a backlash movement, it actually sparked another wave of movements itself, those of which I will explore as well. Lastly, I will look at how anti feminism has evolved over time, and it s impact on society and feminism as a whole. Although feminism in the United States can be dated back to the early 18th century, any movements or advocates during that time were scarce, and the societal influence accomplished was little to none. The feminist movement didn t really start to get started until the 19th century. 19th century through mid 20th century feminism is considered First wave feminism, which includes the suffrage movement, education reform, workplace reform, and the beginning of the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) movements (Harding, 1981). The first wave of feminism peaked and is said to have ended with the passage of the 19th Amendment, giving women the right to vote, and putting an end to the highly influential suffrage movement. Second wave feminism is the period of the feminist movement which took place from mid to late 20th century into the 21st century (Harding, 1981). This period ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. The Age Of Enlightenment By Voltaire 1. Do some research on Voltaire and his beliefs as well as the era in which he wrote, which was the Age of Enlightenment. Be sure to cite your sources of information. The Age of Enlightenment occurred from the 1620s until the 1780s. This movement began in England, and steadily spread almost worldwide before long. The term Enlightenment was used to contrast the Dark Ages, a time in which innovation and free thinking was at an all time low. Voltaire s French philosophy included free thinking and the struggle for defense of civil liberties, in which he uses almost every known literary form, including novels, poetry, and performance art such as plays. His intellectual skepticism of traditional beliefs and dogmas denotes an illumined contrast to the supposed dark and superstitious character of the Middle Ages. http://www.pbs.org/faithandreason/gengloss/enlight body.html 2. Satire is a literary genre in which human vices, folly, and flaws are ridiculed or mocked, often with the intention bringing about change. How do Voltaire use techniques such as irony, sarcasm, and understatement for his satirical purposes? Give some examples from throughout the book. Voltaire uses irony and satire in many different situations during the story. A prime example of these literary forms can be found in the form of religion, for example when the Catholic Inquisitor speaks against his own ideals and keeps a mistress, and a Franciscan friar who operates as a jewel thief, even though ... Mexican War On Drugs Critics outside and inside of Mexico who are witness to the casualties of the Mexican War on Drugs are keen to blame Felipe Calderon s administration (the Mexican government) for the escalation of conflict within the country starting in 2006; arguing that the fast militarization and the lack of the state s strength augmented such conflict. In the article Did the Military Interventions in the Mexican Drug War Increased Violence? by Valeria Espinosa and Donald B Rubin; the statistics analysts, studied two articles from a leading Mexican magazine Nexos, both with the same conclusion, that military interventions had increased homicide rates in those states where intervention took place (Espinosa and Rubin, 17). But according to the studies, military intervention s increase in conflict was only a short term issue, initially, military intervention upset the local balance in power between cartels and local police which is particularly relevant if these bodies were infiltrated by organized crime thereby increasing the violence in the short term (Espinosa and Ruin, 26), but that the same interventions decreases the homicide rates in the long term. Thus military intervention is not the cause of conflict in the form of homicide rates, but rather in the change in power in local authorities. But can one still blame the Mexican government for the increase of conflict? According to Michel Coscia and Viridiana Ríos, President Calderón did not start the Mexican Drug War and violence did not start because of the interactions of two or more cartels operating in the same territory (Ríos, 22). The Antamina mine, was the underlying asset of this bidding process which included 40 bidders; though that number was steadily dwindling, and by June of 1996 was down to only a handful serious contenders. Within the copper mining industry, there were three dominant players, RTZ CRA, Noranda, and a joint venture of Inmet Mining and Rio Algom. These three were believed to be the primary bidders. All three had ancillary mineral mining practices aside from copper, as well as other areas of business. RTZ CRA was the largest of these three, and was believed to be the best positioned to prevail on the bidding. The other bidders were smaller in capital but had the same level of mining experience. The joint venture of Rio Algom and Inmet had only $1.5 billion combined market capitalization, but Inmet had a healthier capital structure and less financial risk which created a lower cost of capital. The bidding rules reduced the sensitivity of capital and created comparative advantages for smaller players. For RTZ CRA to execute on their bid and acquire Antamina at a strategically economic price, they would have to have made the decision of whether this property would provide long term economic and strategic value. Since their footprint was global, they would be unable to introduce certain synergies based on asset proximity of their other properties. Antamina would most likely have to be acquired and operated as a stand alone project. Internal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. Employee Teacher Reflection Portfolio It has now come to my understanding that as a trainee teacher, it is vital that I become a reflective practitioner when fostering the role of a teacher. In support of this, Tripp (2012, p.12) adds that being reflective is an essential part of the development of professional judgement . He continues to state that one must be able to examine and critique their teaching to build on their own professional values and ideas. It is through this theory that as a trainee teacher, I must be able to examine my own critical incident from my school based training placement (SBT1). I will be employing Tripp s four approaches of analysis Thinking Strategies, The Why? Challenge, Dilemma Identification and Personal Theory Analysis (Tripp, 2012, pp. 43 54). However, before I start my analysis, it is important to identify what a critical incident is. Tripp (2012) states that critical incidents are shaped by the way we look at a situation. He further adds that a critical incident is an interpretation of the significance of an event (p. 8). The context of my incident took place in a year four class within the Borough of Barking and Dagenham. It consisted of me teaching a whole class Literacy lesson where the majority of the pupils were considered or categorised as having English as an additional language. Many freshwater invertebrates do not require large amounts of space, making them ideal for Nano tanks or even goldfish bowls. Some eat algae or uneaten fish food, while others are stunningly beautiful. Sometimes such useful attributes even belong to the same creature. However, freshwater invertebrates don t always have the same requirements as fish and the requirements differ considerably between different species. Freshwater Shrimp Freshwater shrimp are probably the most decorative freshwater invertebrates. There are many species, each with its own color pattern and mode of life. As most species are small, they do not require much space. Freshwater shrimp are harassed or eaten by many fish species so tank mates must be considered carefully. I tried keeping Cherry Shrimp with a Pygmy Gourami and regretted the decision. The Gourami harassed my shrimp and probably caused the death of two of the five. Donnall Thomas, The Nobel Prizes, 1990 Animal research, as mentioned by Dr. E. Donnall Thomas in 1990 during his Nobel Prize award, has been crucial for the understanding of bone marrow transplantation (BMT) as a clinical therapy 138. His studies extensively used both mice and dogs as animal models. Other important models used in BMT research are rats, cats, pigs and non human primates. The mouse is an excellent animal model because of the similarities in physiological and pathological traits that they share with other animals and humans. The field of BMT research has taken full advantage of these qualities, and mice have become one of the most commonly used BMT animal models. Transplantation (organ and hematopoietic) began in the early 20th century1. Several studies published between 1949 1953 139 141 documented that organs removed and immediately transplanted back into the same individual (autotransplants) were not rejected. However, organs from genetically different animals but from the same species (allografts) would eventually fail several days after transplantation. Even though these concepts are intrinsically linked, in that one cannot survive without the other, there is often a desire to separate them and define where one ends and the other begins. In this account, Socrates explains that his behavior stems from a prophecy by the oracle at Delphi which claimed that he was the wisest of all men. Recognizing his ignorance in most worldly affairs, Socrates concluded that he must be wiser than other men only in that he is aware of his own lack of knowledge. In order to spread this peculiar wisdom, Socrates explains that he considers it his duty to question supposed wise men and to expose their false wisdom as ignorance. • 26. Comparing Christianity and Stoicism Essay Introduction Over the course of human history every society, even the most culturally isolated of civilizations, has developed some form of faith system for interpreting and understanding the spiritual and material worlds. Thousands of such systems have existed over the centuries, and as tribes and cultures expanded, these faith systems inevitably met each other face to face and clashed. Two thousand years ago there was a particularly important collision; one between the Roman stoic and the gentile Christian. At this time in Western civilization, Christianity was just planting its seeds and beginning to grow, whereas stoicism was already legitimate in its foundation and strong in its following (Stavrianos 100). One might wonder ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In doing so, some fundamental conclusions can be drawn pertaining to the eventual succession of Christianity over stoic thought. Christianity and Stoicism: Logic, Physics, and Ethics In terms of logic, Christianity can be understood in three parts. Initially, there is the undeniable doctrine of the Trinity, which teaches that God, as revealed in the Old and New Testaments, actually exists in three persons. In essence, God is the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit all at once. However, Jesus is not the Father, nor is he the Holy Spirit; He is separate, and yet they are all God. Mathematically this makes no sense. If one considers that God=A, God=B, and God=C, it logically follows that A=B=C. An intellectually honest person questions if the Trinity is truly logic at all. As a matter of fact, this particular dogma has no true Biblical origin. The concept of the Trinity does not even arise until the formation of the Nicene Creed (Metzger 90). This is interesting to note though, for it was primarily used to falsify the so called heretical systems that rivaled it (Metzger 782). A second main tenant of Christian logic is the idea that the Bible is inerrant. In other words, all scripture is God breathed, and as such, what is written was done so in accordance with His will, and thus, must be true (2Tim 3:16). This argument is often used ... Everyone agrees that this guiding principle has the solid endorsement of the majority of the population. These presumptions are accepted with almost no contention or debate. In Justice in Medicine and Public Health, Rosamund Rhodes argues that no single conception of justice explains the array of broadly endorsed medical and public health policies. This thought challenges the classical approach of defining or defending one accurate view of justice in medicine. There are many different views of justice in health care that have been developed and debated. However, it is clear that no one view of the distribution of the scarce resources and services fits every situation. Aristotle defined justice as giving each his due. While this thought has its fans, others prefer a more idealistic view of justice in the field of health care. One of these philosophies, utilitarianism, defines justice as policies and procedures that produce the best outcomes. During times of emergency, it is acceptable for health professionals to practice triage medicine. Many philosophers had an agreement in general that each nation was/had unique characteristics, but there are many opinions as to what makes a national character. There was a lot of focus on the spiritual and physical characteristics and their role in shaping the national traits. These philosophers had a different perspective on the relationship between the national character and the political institutions. The concept of national character expanded in its significance in regards to its importance and complexity from a political standpoint. At the beginning of the 1800s, the national character idea was viewed as a historical fact and towards the end, it was viewed as a current force of politics that required some fostering to reforms. I don t see this movement as a threat but rather they are just protestors extremely upset with who we have in charge as President and strongly believe he is a Fascist. They strongly oppose white supremacy and dislike authority. Only a small percentage of them are actually committing crimes such as vandalism and assault. The problem with this movement ... Santa Fe Research Paper Visiting the neighboring island of Santa Fe on one of our safaris is a day delving into the starting diversity of the Galapagos, both with its creatures and its geology. After breakfast we embark to the dock in Puerto Ayora, and take an hour and a half journey to the island. Santa Fe is one of the oldest of the bunch in the archipelago, with underwater rocks dating back 3.9 million years. Lava that floated up from the ocean floor created the island, making it unique to its larger counterparts. Arriving at Barrington Bay, a charming inlet protected by a cove and a series of small islands; we disembark to the beach, walking past sea lions to the trailhead. Santa Fe is home to a healthy population of iguanas (numbering in the range of 7,000 at last count) inclluding the Santa Fe Yellow iguana, and marine iguanas. Other residents include the Galapagos hawk, and Blue footed boobies. The island is also home to a reclusive number of Galapagos tortoises. In 2015, the Galapagos National Park, the Galapagos Conservancy, and the Charles Darwin Foundation released 201 tortoises on the island. Naturalists believe that Santa Fe once had its own species of tortoise, and the renewed effort to reintroduce the tortoise to the island has proven effective. In a 2016 survey of the island, the 165 reptiles that we found all appeared healthy and well fed, indicating that the entire population was moving ahead. Once done exploring the island s trails, we take a break for lunch on board the boat. The afternoon is reserved for snorkeling, swimming and relaxing on the beach. Friendly sea lions line the shores and swim besides you when snorkeling. Other under water creatures that are common to the area are sharks, rays, and colorful schools of fish; darting in every direction after being startled by new faces and the movement of the ... Built in 1940, on the ground of former Polish towns and neighborhoods. The Nazis bulldozed the houses and built the camp. Most of the camp consisted of Slave labor and execution facilities. The camp had gas chambers, medical facilities, and a crematorium. The camp consisted of three sub camps: Auschwitz I, Auschwitz II, and Auschwitz III. It also had many minicamps that were used to hold extra prisoners. The Nazis committed atrocities at all their concentration camps, but Auschwitz was the worst. The Holocaust was one of the worst acts of murder and cruelty from one group of humans to another. Beginnings of the camp. The land where the Auschwitz concentration camp stands was land once owned by regular people who lived in regular neighborhoods. They probably had a peaceful life, with not much to worry about. That was about to change. Once the Nazis invaded Poland and killed all of the Polish government officials so that they had complete control of Poland. They then demolished houses, neighborhoods, towns and either captured or killed the citizens. The Nazis Adams 2 built the many buildings in Auschwitz on the ground of those towns including medical facilities, crematoriums, gas chambers, barracks, and warehouses. Viral Manipulation Of Cell Death Lab Geraldson D Haiti Doctor Susan McLaughlin BI 201 March 22,2017 Viral Manipulation of Cell Death (Zakeri s Cell Death Lab) The cells of a multicellular organism are members of a highly organized community. The number of cells in this community is regulated, not by controlling the rate of cell division, but also by controlling the rate of cell death. If cells are no longer needed, they commit suicide by activating an intracellular death program. This process is therefore called programmed cell death, although it is more commonly called apoptosis. Cell death plays a role in development and the process is called, morphogenesis, the biological process that causes an organism to develop its shape. It also plays a role in the maintenance ... It is evident that dengue (DEN) viruses can trigger the host cell to undergo apoptosis in a cell dependent manner. Virally induced apoptosis contributes directly to the cytopathogenic effects of DEN virus in cultured cells. The induction of apoptosis involves the activation of intracellular signaling systems. The cellular factors that regulate cell death can adjust the outcome of DEN virus infection in cultured cells. Apoptosis inhibitors delay DEN virus induced apoptosis, thereby providing a suitable environment for the virus. Essay on Western Influence on Chinese Music Western Influence on Chinese Music China has long been the cultural hub of Asia, and has had the longest amount of contact of any Asian country with other Western countries. Ever since the Silk Road was established, China has been trading with other Western countries and exchanging aspects of their cultures with one another. One of these aspects is music. But how exactly has Western music influenced Chinese music? In order to understand this, we must look at the history of Western encounters with China in terms of music. European music was first introduced into China during the thirteenth century, which was part of the Yuan dynasty of China. Catholic missionaries introduced Western music to the Chinese imperial court. Soon, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She and the Chinese pop music industry flourished in China until the 1950s, when the Communist regime led by Mao took over. Pop music was replaced with revolutionary music with government propaganda, which caused the pop industry to move to Taiwan and Hong Kong. This new musical presence in Hong Kong indirectly led to the creation of Cantonese popular music, also known as Cantopop. Cantopop is a style of popular music that emerged during the 1970s. It was influenced by Western folk rock music of the 1970s, and is set up in a rock band layout with heavy use of electronic instruments, such as the electric guitar and synthesizer. Perhaps the most famous Cantopop singer of all time, Teresa Tang, emerged during the 1980s. Her music touched the hearts of people all over the world, and caused the Communist regime in China to shift their policy of music from just supporting government propaganda to include expressing individual emotions. Since then, many Cantonese pop singers have emerged and this genre remains famous even today. While some musicians used Western genres, such as Western pop music and jazz, as the basis of their music, other musicians stuck with the traditional Chinese music style while adding Western elements to it. Due to the popularity of Western music in China, the popularity of traditional Chinese music diminished, and many traditional Chinese musicians were afraid that traditional music would eventually fade away. This paper delves into relational database normalization giving the reason why a database schema in third normal form is considered to be of higher quality than an un normalized database schema. Relational database normalization entails organizing database and it includes the creation of tables as well as relationships establishment between the tables using designed rules intended to protect the data as well as make the database to be flexible. This is achieved through the elimination of redundancy as well as inconsistent dependency. Redundant data is known to waste the space of the disk thereby creating problems of ... Transitive dependency occurs if an attribute is found to be functionally dependent on the key in an indirect manner. In this level, remaining functional dependency anomalies is removed. Boyce Codd Normal requires that the relation to be in third normal form and that every determinant is supposed to be a candidate key. In this level, multi valued dependencies are removed. A relation is in fourth normal form is it has a composite key and its key attributes have no multi valued dependencies. In the fourth normal form, the remaining anomalies are removed. Fifth normal form is a generalization of the fourth normal form. It states that if a relation can be decomposed into the lossless join of several relations, then it should be so decomposed. American society is taught to never give up and peruse one s dream, to value that dream and do whatever it takes in order to achieve it. Although this provides a double edged sword for society as it can be the will on one side, but also be the downfall on another. For if any person is supposed to truly resemble the American frontier, then Buffalo Bill would be that image. Yet, in a Native American perspective, his double edged sword is a continually growing downfall for the culture. It separates the successful students, those were doing well and all of their classes, from the unsuccessful students, those who are barely passing their classes or struggling to get passing. The qualities that the successful students have that the unsuccessful students have not yet mastered are the ability to be attentive in class, the initiative to organize all aspects of their school life, and the intuition needed to ask the right questions. Asking questions helps to avoid later confusion. I can relate personally to this attribute because, ask anyone who knows anything about me, and they will inform you of how inquisitive I am. Turns out, my instructor had forgotten to hand out the rubric and she also confessed that it would have been 10 times more difficult to complete the assignment without this handout. That is one out of many times where asking questions was useful. In addition to gathering information, asking questions will encourage free communication between the student and the teacher. The fact that a student is asking questions shows that they re humble enough to admit that they don t know everything, and teachers admire this. • 48. My Purpose Of The World Is Always Changing And So Are People My Purpose The world is always changing and so are people. People today never see how they evolve physically, spiritually and educationally. The never question their purpose of living or do they? For many years I have been puzzled to what my purpose in life is. People need to know what their purpose in life is to continue living. Growing up in the south during my time was not so bad, but listening to my parents and grandparents I believe it was pretty rough. This is where my educational phase of life begins to form my purpose. My parents named me Melody and of course my name means a sequence of notes that are put together to form a beautiful sound. My grandparents firmly believed that music can be a positive change for people. In history James Brown created a song called I am black and I am proud. Naturally the song convinced some people to be proud of their race. I thought as a teenager I could sing a song and even be a star one day. I perform in front of friends and family until my first talent show gave me a reality check. I did ok but I was not good enough to win, so I left that talent alone. I only song in church. This is where my spiritual phase continued to direct my destination of knowing my purpose. I was raised in the A.M.E foundation and still to this day I go to the same church. My grandmother and mother both were on the choir. I joined the choir after I turned sixteen. I was also raised to have a strong relationship with the lord and I do. Every person may ... The rapid decline in the species of great apes had to be due to a certain factor. In the investigation, researchers accounted for the loss of great apes, the population decline was more than 70% in 20 years and now the population is fewer than 5,000. With this data set, the researches were able to interpret the data and realize a rapid decrease in population. Accounting for the reduction in population is the best way to asses the problem of the nearing extinction. There currently are laws that are in place on the killing and capture of great apes. It is illegal to hunt great apes but the main reason they are declining rapidly is due to hunting. This is also a pattern found in the reduction of population of different animals such as the once widespread Plains Zebra .
