Interpreting Nature
Edgar Allen Poe s creation of the detective Le Chevalier C. Auguste Dupin paved the way for
detective stories. ..........................................
One of the main characteristics of successful analysis, as said by Holmes, is the ability to reason
backwards ( A Study in Scarlet ). These views reflect the thoughts of the 17th century philosopher of
science, Sir Francis Bacon. Sherlock also uses the phrase ones ideas must be as broad as nature if they
are to interpret nature. This idea of interpreting nature is also similar to Bacon s views as Bacon writes
about interpreting nature in one of his philosophical works called The Novum Organum Scientiarium
(which translates as The New Instrument of Science).

Edmond Locard was an avid reader of the Sherlock Holmes stories and was influenced very heavily
by them, so much so that he built his own forensics laboratory. He proceeded to create Locard s
Exchange Principle which explains that if two things rub upon each other for example (or come into
contact with each other) they will always leave a trace of themselves on each other, every contact
leaves a trace. Locard was very influential in the field of forensic science as he developed the science
of poroscopy which is the study of the pores in fingerprints, and also said that if 12 points of two
fingerprints matched that they were the same, i.e. a positive identification. In A Study In Scarlet,
Holmes talks about the identification of ashes and afterward Locard wrote a paper on the identification
of tobacco by a study on ashes. Locard also published a paper titled The Analysis of Dust Traces in
which he directly address the Holmes novels, saying a police expert... would not find it a waste of
time to read Doyle s novels. Interestingly, Locard was dubbed the Sherlock of France (The Forensics

Video Game Console Research Paper
The video game console is a gaming system to play video games on the television invented by Ralph
Baer and it was invented because Ralph wanted to make his dream come true for the first time. Ralph
made models to test his invention and make a good console that was worth paying for. Although it
took some time to build, he never gave up and kept on trying if he didn t get it right the first time. He
was a very good man and received many awards for his accomplishments. His story was that he was
while living in Germany a war was going to happen and he didn t want to get killed before he could
have his dream to come true. He moved fast so he can go to the United States of America to live his

Baer: he was nicknamed The Father of Video Games . In 1975 there was a console called Atari Sears
Tele Game Pong System. Another interesting fact is that the consoles are banned in China. The video
game console is important because it helped develop a gaming life for some people and community
for a lot of people that like to play video games. Today its role is for kids and adults to enjoy their
gaming life and interact with friends on a video game to get in touch more often. The video game
console has evolved over about 48 years and it has changed in many ways. One way it has changed is
well just everything and it was not able to be connected with your TV back then but now you can. One
interesting fact is that the Nintendo and play station were sold with 155 million units. The very first
video game console came out in 1972 and it was called The Magnavox Odyssey. It became popular in
the 1970 s and 1980 s. The first ever video game to play on the video game console was Tennis for

people were wrong. In 1976 they released a console named Fairchild Channel F in

Sisyphus Deception
Albert Camus, a French philosopher who tries to decipher a meaningful world through the trails and
tribulation of life. His piece, The Myth of Sisyphus can be interpreted that the essay represents man s
struggle to belong, an endless journey to achieve, and a glimpse of his own fate. Sisyphus is the
absurd hero. He is, as much through his passions as through his torture . (Camus, The Myth of
Sisyphus)
There is scarcely any person without struggle. (Camus, The Myth of Sisyphus) Sisyphus is a devious
mortal creature who is willing to betray his fellow man. Having minimal respect for his gods,
Sisyphus has a willingness to deceive in order to receive what he wants. Sisyphus has a profession as a
highwayman, where he lays his own path in life, often finding hardship and wanting to have what

Just as Sisyphus deceived his own wife, man deceives man. Somehow, man can look past his
deception and justify it with the thought process that their deception has not hurt anyone. There is a
multitude of scenarios in which I find myself like Sisyphus but it is the one man who changes those
patterns. It is the one man who finds himself, moving away from the norm and what society portrays
as truth. When that man emerges, it is difficult but courageous. It is a meaningful transformation that
will assist in helping others find who they were meant to be.
There is no fate that can not be surmounted by scorn. (Camus, The Myth Of Sisyphus) Having a
glimpse of your own fate is for those who choose to continue the struggle of the uphill climb and the
repetitive fall, and untrustworthy happiness. They will always be tormented as Sisyphus was, because
they will always be searching for something they can t find. The lack of fulfillment will devastate
them spiritually, emotionally and mentally. The stability of man will falter and the foundation they

Ghana And Its Demographic Profile Over Time
Ghana is a country found along the Gulf of Guinea in the sub region of West Africa in the African
continent. It is bordered to the west by Ivory Coast; to the north by Burkina Faso; to the east by Togo
and to the south by the Gulf of Guinea and the Atlantic Ocean.
Ghana was the first African country to gain independence from colonization by the United Kingdom
on the 6th March 1957 under the leadership of Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah who was the first Prime
Minister as well as the First President of Ghana. In terms of population policies and programmes
which is the subject matter of this paper Ghana was the third country in Sub Saharan Africa after
Mauritius(1958) and Kenya(1967) to adopt an explicit and comprehensive policy on population in the
year 1969.This paper discusses the population policies and programmes of Ghana vis a vis its
demographic profile over time.
Even in the colonial times Ghana was seen as a country with prospects. From about 1945 to 1957
which is after the Second World War Gold Coast was a model colony of the British empire given that
it was endowed with a relatively advanced network of infrastructure and social service institutions in
health and education. These were facilities that had been financed with the proceeds of a previous
cocoa boom in the 1920 s. The cocoa boom was so remunerative to the extent that the Governor
Gordon Guggisberg felt confident enough as to write a long term development plan for the colony. As
early as 1947 the colony

The Relationship Between Life Expectancy at Birth and Gdp...
The relationship between Life Expectancy at birth and GDP per capita (PPP)

Section 1: Introduction
In a given country, Life Expectancy at birth is the expected number of years of life from birth. Gross
domestic product per capita is defined as the market value of all final goods and services produced
within a country in one year, divided by the size of the population of that country.
The main objective of the present project is to establish the existence of a statistical relation between
Life Expectancy (y) at birth and GDP per capita (x). First, we will present in Section 2 the data, from
an official governmental source, containing Life ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Basic statistics for the GDP per capita:
Mean: x=i=148xi48 = 12900
In order to compute the median, we need to order the GDP values:
600, 700, 1100, 1500, 1600, 1900, 2100, 2200, 2500, 2900,
2900, 3200, 3300, 3900, 4000, 4100, 4300, 4800, 5000, 6000,

28200, 28800, 29000, 29100, 29800, 30000, 31100, 37800.
The median is obtained as the middle value of the two central values (the 25th and the 26th):
Median= 7600+91002 = 8350
In order to compute the modal class, we need to split the data in classes.
If we consider classes of USD 1000 (0 999, 1000 1999, ...) we have the following table of frequencies:
Class | Frequency | 0 999 | 2 | 1000 1999 | 4 | 2000 2999 | 5 | 3000 3999 | 3 | 4000 4999 | 4 | 5000 5999

The Annals of Tacitus Essay
Tacitus tells us in the introduction to his Annales that his intent is to relate a little about Augustus,
Tiberius, et cetera and to in fact do so sine ira et studio without bitterness or bias.1 Experience,
however, tells us that this aim is rarely executed, and that we must be all the more suspicious when it
is stated outright. Throughout the Annales, Tacitus rather gives the impression that his lack of bias is
evidenced by his evenhanded application of bitterness to all his subjects. But is this really the case?
While Tacitus tends to apply his sarcastic wit universally to barbarian and Roman alike this is not
necessarily evidence of lack of bias. Taking the destruction of Mona and Boudicca s revolt (roughly
14.28 37) as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Vergilian references continue throughout the passage. Chapter 14.31 features an unusual use of
rebellio ( rebellationem ), used to describe rebelling tribes, only seen elsewhere in the Aeneid
(12.186), again in relation to the Trojans.5 Skipping ahead to the end 14.33, Tacitus describes the
rebellious Britons as being uninterested in belli commercium, or the commerce of war, i.e., the trading
and selling of hostages. This is another phrase borrowed from Vergil (Aeneid 10.532), used in fact by
Aeneas in denouncing the practice. The last Aeneid reference occurs in 14.34, immediately preceding
Boudicca s rallying speech which begins in 14.35: the use of exultabant to describe the Celtic armies
battle strategy.6 This is a usage derived from 11.663 of the Aeneid, which describes the warrior
Camilla, enemy of Aeneas, in a passage comparing her to Penthesilea and the Amazons, who actually
defended Troy during the war. Tacitus reminds his reader that there is a long tradition of comparing
enemies of Rome to noble allies of the past, and prepares us to see Boudicca as the heir of female
warriors like Camilla and Penthesilea. While Tacitus allusions are a relatively straightforward way of
transmitting his

The Beak of the Finch Summary
The Beak of the Finch by Jonathan Weiner explores evolution through the most famous examples in
history the finches of the Galápagos Islands. Charles Darwin s theory of natural selection and the
process of evolution are applied directly to what scientists refer to as Darwin s Finches. Weiner
follows scientists Peter and Rosemary Grant as they study the finches in real time on the Galápagos.
Years of previous work, study and data is collected and analyzed. Different species of animals are
observed and explained throughout history. The Grants have one goal, and that is to find the origin of
the species, how organisms first began. They find that it really is about the survival of the ... Show

The Grants observed how the two ground finches preformed while attempting to obtain a seed called a
Caltrop. Caltrops naturally have spikes around the seed as a defense against intruders. The
Magnirostris did not have a hard time cracking open the Caltrop, with its hard, powerful jaw. However
the Fortis would have to put more effort into cracking a single seed. The regular Fortis would try for
six times and then give up, moving on to another seed. They will often move onto a different seed
without trying. However the Fortis with a beak that is slightly deeper beak would attempt to crack the
caltrop, and after a few tries, will succeed. The Grant s are capable of studying Darwin s theory of
natural selection in action, after gathering data from their colleagues, Peter Boag and Laurene
Ratcliffe, who would be their watch on Daphne Island. Peter and Laurene witnessed an important
event in natural selection, during a life or death situation with the finches. Though the two scientists
were anxious for rain, but they did not receive a single drop that season. Rain would mean
reproduction and fertility for the finches; however, the birds were faced with e horrible drought. Food
became scarce and the finch population declined. Easy seeds to obtain on the ground were nearly
gone. The seeds with tougher defenses, such as the caltrop, were usually untouched, since they were
hard to crack. The finches with inadequate beaks did not

The Federal Government Should Have Greater Authority On...
This paper will discuss the prevailing Canadian debate of whether the federal government should have
greater authority on administering health care. Essentially, Canada s health care program referred to as
Medicare, is administered by the provinces while regulated by the federal government through the
Canada Health Act of 1984. One side of the debate, using the political theory of pluralism, argues
against federal leadership and instead emphasizes for provincial authority on matters of health care
since Canada is inherently composed of individuals with differing interests and values. Through a
decentralized framework, each province will be able to implement efficient health services that will
meet the demands of its citizens. Their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The political elites also acknowledged that it would be in their best interests to respond to group
demands. Barker s second contention states that provinces can provide the best quality health care
according to their demographics and socioeconomic factors. For example, Saskatchewan primarily
utilizes its federal grants for a community based approach of providing health care such rehabilitation
services while Ontario primarily invests in effective hospital care. Through a pluralist approach,
Barker argues that various interest groups exist that want to play a role in the decision making of
national programs to meet their own needs and therefore diversities can be best accommodated when
provinces lead social programs.
However, an institutionalist approach can critique the pluralist contentions made by Barker. Regarding
his legal contention, it can be argued that the distribution of power on health care depicted in the
constitution is outdated since there were vast divisions between English and French physicians as well
as differing health and religious practices during the 1800s. Due to the divisions, it was resolved that
the provinces would administer public policies regarding

words that were either bad or good associating with the faces. So, I had to respond quickly to each

Reflection On The Root Cellar
Since the beginning of September, I have been attending the Root Cellar in Portland Maine. My work
has varied time to time, but, mostly includes watching and hanging out with kids from age 5 18. I also
helped with projects around the organization and preparing meals for kids. Throughout my time at the
root cellar, I have noticed multiple scenarios where concepts we learn in the classroom are evident
with my experiences at this organization.
The first concept or chapter I am going to focus on is education. They provide multiple services for
the students attending to perform well in school and get extra help on homework or any other school
work. They provide private tutors for free in which they will help students with specific subjects. Two
times specifically stand out to me when thinking about the concept of education. The first was when I
was walking by and witnessed an older gentleman helping a student for about an hour with his english
homework. Next was when a little boy in the 4th grade came up to me and asked for some help with
his math homework. He was learning how to multiply numbers and I taught him the multiplying nines
trick on his hands. He was so amazed by this and was very thankful which made my whole experience
at The Root Cellar worth it.
The second concept I experienced was economic inequality. This is very apparent with people who
come into the root cellar as they are seeking assistance. My last time volunteering I noticed this as I

The Florida Panther used to thrive throughout most of southeastern United States, but today, they are
little number of species in southern Florida. The habitat of Florida panthers consists of pinelands,
hardwood hammocks, and swamp terrain. Living in these types of environments, you can tell that their
body types are made to hunt live prey. Their preferences for sources of food are: wild hogs, deer,
rabbits, and when limited resources they will eat raccoons and crocodiles. In the mind of a panther,
their strategy for hunting strategy is single out, stalk, ambush, while rarely chasing their prey for long
periods of time. Florida Panthers are mostly solitary animals, not relying on a pack to help them hunt
or thrive. They use their home range to live, hunt, and raise their young. Males cover an area of 200
square miles of land, while females range much lesser than the males at 70 80 square miles. While
covering such a vast majority of land, Florida panthers rarely fight over territory (BCR,2016). The
historical range of this species occurred throughout 7 states consisting of southeastern United States.
In the world today, the panther is limited to less than five percent of their previous range, only having
a single breeding population located in southern

What Features Of American Society Seem Most For Trouble...
1. What features of American society seem most to trouble the authors of the Port Huron Statement?
When writing the Port Huron Statement, its authors explicitly mentioned two key features of
American society that they found troubling. First, they considered the presence of racism and overall
bigotry in the American South as ...the permeating and victimizing fact of human degradation (Foner
283). The authors acknowledged the presence of practices that essentially dehumanized African
Americans in the South, claiming that its existence is what ...compelled most of us from silence to
activism (Foner 283). In addition to this, the authors of the Port Huron Statement were also troubled
by the existence of the atom bomb and the possibility that an all out nuclear war could break out at
any given moment. It is stated that the presence of the bomb brought awareness that ...we ourselves,
and our friends, and millions of abstract others...might die at any time (Foner 283). While
contemplating the aforementioned problems in American society, the authors of the Port Huron
Statement also began to rethink the American ideal that all men are created equal , finding paradoxes
between the claim and what was really occurring in American society. They stated that the declaration
...rang hollow before the facts of Negro life in the South (Foner 283) and was contradicted by the
United States ...economic and military investments in the Cold War status quo (Foner 283). These two

Size Zero Fashion Models Should be Banned
Throughout the years, models have been progressively been getting skinnier. Size 6 (UK size 10) was
a normal size (Littlejohn). There are many downsides to the super thin models of today. They cause
unattainable standards of beauty for people which leads to eating disorders such as bulimia, anorexia,
and binge eating. This is affecting models and teenage girls the most, peoples health is being
sacrificed for fashion , and it needs to stop. Models are the ones being directly affected by this
epidemic. Modeling is hard, so models will do whatever they need to succeed. When you re a model,
size zero is what s in demand, what the designers are looking for (Lee). Most models think that it is
required and expected of them to have to be hospitalized because they don t eat enough. One model
says, No, no. It is my job not to eat. Some have resorted to extreme measures, A couple of the others
have resorted to eating tissues. Apparently they swell up and fill your stomach (Clements). No one
should ever feel like they need to eat tissues so they can be beautiful. Beauty is relative and just a
concept we ve made in our heads, so it can t even be defined. The common size of models, a size zero,
requires the waist measurements of twenty three inches, which is the average size for an eight year old
(Size Zero). Why is this the standard? This epidemic is also an issue for our youth, particularly in

most good inventions, there is some negativity that must be dealt with. The dissemination of
information on the global network has put personal privacy at risk. Obviously, we are not going to

Afghanistan War Essay

been eight years since this incident, and the United States and President Obama still want to keep this
war going. Next year they are going to send 30,000 troops to Afghanistan and Iraq. There are three
reasons why they shouldn t send them: one for their safety; two Afghanistan should keep their

See this isn t our problem yet because they are planning but they haven t done it yet. So the United
States military should just get prepared and stop this war. Because is this all necessary to really to
keep this war going, it s been eight years really they should just don t send the troops. Ok also before
the twin towers were destroyed, Afghanistan had more problems with their neighbor they were going
to get in a war and that s when the United States got involved and tried to stop that war from
happening. Like they shouldn t have gotten involved because probably when they destroyed the Twins
Towers was because they were nosy and got involved on what was not any of their business. So yea
they really shouldn t gotten into that problem because now we, the United States, are the ones who are
suffering from all this. Many would argue that the story of how 9/11 came about goes back, at least, to
1979 when the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan, with which it shares a border. Afghanistan had
experienced several problems since 1973, when the Afghanistan monarchy was overthrown by Daud

Characterization of Dmitry Dmitrich Gurov Essay
Chekhov is part of a non typical category of artists, because he did not believed in his genius, on the
contrary, there are evidence that he believed that his work will not conquer time and posterity.
Spectacular, just like Russia at the border between the 19th and 20th century, Chekhov was born the
son of serfs in 1860 (Tsar Alexander will abolish serfdom in 1861) only to become a landlord 32 years
later, and a neighbor of Prince Shakovskoi. He bought the Melikhovo estate (unconsciously imitating
Tolstoy, the patriarch of Iasnaia Polyana), not far from Moscow, with 13 thousand rubles of which he
has paid an advance of five thousand.
Chekhov is the true precursor of the theater of the absurd. Before the beckettian waiting there was the

Neither is prepared to leave his family or to live a double life. Both suffer, but what they cherish the
most is love, so they hope that in time they will find a solution. However, life brings them something
different, something that nobody imagined the civil war and revolution breaks out. The whole country
is devastated by the tragic chaos of the revolution and their love disappears in the distance.
Summary
Lady with the Pet Dog is a short story written in 1899, a time when Chekhov spent most of the time in
his house in Yalta. He lived usually alone and often weakened by the effects of tuberculosis, tired of
the city s provincialism, but never losing his charm and humor. He felt difficult to write in Yalta; also,
he stopped working as a doctor some few years ago. Yalta became a kind of exile of his. It seems that
Olga Knipper, his sweet actress , and wonderful woman often complained to him in long letter that she
is depressed, and he tried to cheer her with the perspective of reunion (Benedetti, 112).
In the short story Lady with the Pet Dog, what initially seems to be a simple adultery, as so many
others, turns into a great love story. He, Dmitri Dmitrievich Gurov, a man passed his early youth, with
an unhappy marriage in which, for years, has saved himself by throwing his life into countless love
affairs, lives in Moscow. She, Anna Sergeyevna, very young,

Power Of Joseph Stalin
Following the death of Lenin in January 1924, Joseph Stalin emerged as the vital dictator of Russia in
February; he ruled the Soviet Union like a personal fiefdom. He aimed to transform the Union of
Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) from a backwards agriculture society into a great industrial
totalitarian nation, which he believed was essential if Russia was to survive in a world of powerful and
hostile capitalist states (Todd Allan 2001). Stalin claimed that
The major priority should be to consolidate the Marxian socialist system with the USSR and make the
country strong again (Cowie. H.R, 1992).
Stalin subsequently based the organisation of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union Government
(CPSUG) on the principles of democratic centralism, aiming to achieve the dictatorship of the
proletariat (Payton Rousseau). According to Payton Rousseau, under Stain s reign, the CPSUG and
Soviet Government were two separate bodies, however, almost all high government officials were
Bolsheviks party members. It was this system of interlocking dual membership that enabled the CPSU
to both make and enforce policy (Payton Rousseau). This level of government authority allowed Stalin
to enact any policy he saw necessary, as he was the leading General Secretary and by the late 1930 s
Joseph Stalin was exercising as much power, in as authoritarian a manner, as the Tsars had done
before him (Cowie. H.R, 1992). This idea coincides with a comment made in 1974 by Alexander
Vasilevsky, a

The Weakness Of NASA
Despite the success of NASA over the years, there is still one facet of their operation that many see as
a weakness. For the past five years, the U.S has been depending on Russia to carry American
astronauts to and from the ISS. Now, with the help of SpaceX and Boeing, the U.S space agency
thinks they are ready for some independence.
NASA TO GET BACK ON TRACK WITH SPACEX AND BOEING
In the year 2017, SpaceX and Boeing are are both on track to launch astronauts to the ISS. Meanwhile,
pouting on the sidelines is NASA. Since they were grounded in 2011, NASA has lost their domestic
crew launch capability. Because of these, they ve been reliant on Russia to help them go back and

Crisis in Ukraine Essay
The big crisis in Ukraine is starting to get out of hand. The government cannot even figure out what to
do, and is getting kicked out of office. There are street protests happening all over Ukraine especially
at Kyiv s Independence Square. There is civil unrest against Yanukovych because he did not do what
the people wanted to have. After everything is starting to cool down, Russian troops start to enter the
country. The crisis was getting so far out of hand that the US and the EU had to figure out how to help,
so they got involved in the crisis. The Ukraine conflict was triggered by Yanukovych declining the EU
deal, and when everything was getting settled down in Ukraine, Russia invades Ukraine.

Vlad Roditelev, a Russian policeman, considered the assignment a noble calling when the government
called for reinforcements (Crowley and Shuster 183). The main reason that Ukraine asks Russia to
help is that Russia is Ukraine s biggest trading partner, and Russia is the source of much of Ukraine s
energy, and Ukraine will ask them for help when they really need it. After the rallies that Ukraine had
were finished, back in Kiev s Independence Maiden Square, coffins were displayed in front of huge
crowds, so people can see all the people that have been killed by the government. The coffins were
also showed to let the people think that something like this should not happen again in Ukraine. Petrou
also said, Kyiv s Independence Square is a shrine to the fallen, a celebration, and a place to wonder
and worry what might lie ahead for Ukraine (127). The civil unrest in Ukraine started when
Yanukovych declined an EU deal that the citizens wanted him to agree with. Matthews said, One of
the demands that the EU wanted to do, in the free trade and political cooperation, was the freeing of
the Prime Minister Yulia Tymosherko (Danilova). People in the west did not really follow
Yanukovych, so Matthews said, Yanukovych has never really been president of the western part of
Ukraine (Matthews 162). It was out of balance in Ukraine Matthews also said, People desired

How Did The Working Class Change Dbq
As the industrial revolution swept through Europe, migration from rural to urban societies occurred.
Although this did create more opportunities at first, it eventually led to poor living conditions due to
an increase in population. Due to the usage of machines rather than hands, unemployment rose, and
guilds were ruined. Due to the increase in population, the food supply decreased. While economic
changes in the nineteenth century increased the amount of workers, the conditions they lived in were
not pleasant. Due to the economic conditions, a series of arguments on how to improve the lives of the
people were argued. Some argued that the only way to fix the economy was through the intervention
of the government while others advocated for a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

that the labouring classes may be silently plundered or suddenly suspended from employment if every
person producing proof of his being 21 years of age shall be entitled to have his name registered as

class of Europe also wanted to abolish the property accommodation for the House of Lords, and
wanted a secret ballot. Not only did men want suffrage, but women did as well. Pauline Roland, a
French writer and political activist, wrote in the letter to the editor of the French newspaper that
Woman is entitled to work as is Man (Document 8). As men gained more independence, women rose
up to argue for their rights. Alexandre Millerand, a member of the French national Legislature said in

attaining suffrage and equality, not only would they be able to live happier lives, but the economy
would change for the better. They believed that it was through this advancement, rather than

Even the richest countries buy raw materials for their industries from the poorest countries. If every
country produces only for its own needs, then production and consumption of goods would be limited.
Clearly, such situation hampers economic progress. Furthermore, the standard of living of the people
all over the world would have no chance to improve. Because of international trade, people with
money can acquire goods and services which are not available in their own countries. Hence,
satisfaction of consumers can be maximized.(hubpages, 2011)
Economic integration and global markets to UK business organizations
Globalization gives companies access to wider markets and consumers access to a greater variety of
goods and services. But the benefits of globalization are not always shared by all of the parties
involved in trade. Unfortunately, developing countries which need the potential benefits of
globalization the most are often the losers. The downside of global capitalism is the disruption of
whole societies, from financial meltdowns to practices by multinationals that would never be tolerated
in the West, the Business Week article noted. Industrialized countries have enacted all sorts of worker,
consumer, and environmental safeguards since the turn of the century, and civil rights have a strong
tradition. But the global economy is pretty much still in the robber baron age.

Life For Harland David Sanders
Life for Harland David Sanders was not easy. He was born on September 9, 1890 in Henryville,
Indiana to a rather unfortunate family. He was the oldest of three children, having a younger brother
named Wilbur and younger sister named Margaret. Their source of income was initially from a part
time job that his father had, running errands for farmers around Henryville. His mother stayed home
and took care of the kids while their father was working. However, this all changed in 1896 when
Harland was just 6 years old. His father came back from work one day with a fever, and died later that
day. This meant that his mother had to go find a job, and Harland had to drop out of school take care
of his younger siblings. His mother found a job at a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This led to Harland running away from home at the age of 15 because he did not want to deal with his
stepfather anymore. He decided that since he was not home anymore, he would volunteer to be in the
U.S. Army. He served a full term in the army, ending his service in Cuba. After his military days, he
was on his own and had to find a job for himself. He found a job as a U.S. railway fireman, and it gave
him a fairly stable income. After about a year of this job, he found that he wanted to settle down and
start a family. So in 1908, Harland married Josephine King. They had three children together, 1 boy
and two girls. They named the boy Harland Jr. after his father, and the girls Mildred and Margaret.
They lived a happy life as a family for a while, until Harland got fired from his fireman position for
insubordination. Now Harland Sanders had no source of income and a family to support. This made it
too hard for the family, so Josephine decided she would leave him. She took the kids with her and just
like that, Harland was on his own again. He took up many different occupations, similar to what he
did in his childhood, after his family left. He earned enough money to stay happy for a while, and
even saved up enough money to make purchases that would benefit him and his future careers. When
Harland Sanders was 40 years of age, he had saved up enough money to buy a service station in the
town of Corbin, Kentucky. At his service station, he had living

Marbury V. Madison
Marbury v. Madison On February 24, 1803 Chief Justice John Marshall and the rest of the Supreme
Court decided on the seemingly insignificant case of Marbury v. Madison. While ruling the Judiciary
Act of 1789 unconstitutional, Judicial Review was established. Granting the Supreme Court the power
to rule acts of the Legislative and/or Executive Branch of government unconstitutional, hence serving
as a landmark case that further legitimatized the Judicial Branch as a separate, but balanced branch of
government. Marbury v. Madison has been used as a very important precedent throughout our history
with 165 acts of Congress deemed unconstitutional as of 2010. In the Presidential election of 1800, the

William Marbury has a right to the commission. Next, since the answer is yes, does the United States
grant Marbury a remedy? Yes, William Marbury was rightfully commissioned to justice of the peace,
but his commission was not sent. Marbury s rights were violated so by law the United States must
grant Marbury a remedy. Thirdly, does the Supreme Court have the power to deem acts of Congress
unconstitutional? In the words of John Marshall, It is emphatically the province and duty of the
Judicial Department to say what the law is. Yes, it is the duty of the Supreme Court to determine
whether a law or action from both the Executive and Legislative Branch is deemed unconstitutional.
The next question dealing with the Judiciary Act of 1789, which was used by Marbury to petition the
Supreme Court with a Writ of Mandamus , Can Congress expand the scope of the Supreme Courts
original jurisdiction as specified under Article III of the U.S. Constitution? No, according to Chief
Justice John Marshall, Congress cannot grant the Supreme Court power. The Judiciary Act of 1789 is
deemed unconstitutional. Nowhere on the Constitution does is state that the Supreme Court has the
power to force Madison to commission Marbury. Lastly, Does the Supreme Court have original
Jurisdiction to issue a Writ of Mandamus ? Since the Judiciary Act was considered unconstitutional,

approach to push the responsibility and decision making to other companies, which are a part of
several components of the supply chain. Company s find that outsourcing can provide some relief to a
company whom is experiencing a shortage of resources. Outsourcing could allow the company to
focus on the core process of the business while providing the flexibility needed during varying
demands. Supply chains management concentrate on inventory processes to complete the orders that
are requested (Chase, 2005). The movement toward a just in time inventory system (JIT) could
provide Riordan with continuous improvement in efficiencies to its fan production process. Riordan
will take the stance of eliminating all cost that does not add value to the product. The China plant will
be able to have their parts arrive at each workstation at the optimal time to complete the process in a
more efficient manner. Riordan will establish areas in their production that are linked, which will
provide a beneficial balance of flow of material throughout the production process.

and plastic polymers, which are essential components of the electric fans. The inventory for the

Elizabeth Bennet Traits
In the book, Pride and Prejudice written by Jane Austen, I chose Elizabeth Bennet in order to deepen
my understanding of her characteristic traits. Elizabeth Bennet is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bennet,
who wanted her or one of the sisters to marry the rich bachelor, Mr. Bingley. I chose Elizabeth because
she is a strong woman who likes to take risks and enjoys challenging others. She is different from her
other sisters because she is an independent woman who thinks for herself as well as helping others.
Elizabeth has her own opinions of herself and does not let anyone belittle her. Not only is she a brave
woman, she is also a beautiful lady that has attracted the ruthless Mr. Darcy. Even with her beauty, she
is feisty towards Mr. Darcy. For example, when Mr. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bingley, Miss Bingley, Mr. Darcy, Miss Lucas, and Mrs. Hurst as Elizabeth s facebook friends. All the
friends are connected somehow. For example, Mr. Darcy is best friends with Mr. Bingley, who has a
sister that really likes Mr. Darcy. Mr. Darcy likes Elizabeth, while Miss Bingley dislikes Elizabeth.
Then Jane is in love with Mr. Bingley as well as Miss Lucas, and Mrs. Hurst is the sister of Mr.
Bingley and Miss Bingley. In other words, Elizabeth has certain relationships with these people, and
all the characters connect through friendships, relationships, or are family. Then for the photos that she
has are relevant to her traits. I drew nature scenes to portray the peace and calmness of Elizabeth.
Nature can be interpreted as free which relates to Elizabeth who likes to do things her way, freely. For
example, instead of taking a coach or ride a horse, instead Elizabeth said No, indeed. I do not wish to
avoid the walk. The distance is nothing when one has a motive; only three miles. (21). In other words,
Elizabeth prefers to endure the walk rather than taking the horses. This shows that Elizabeth makes
her own choices and decisions for she likes to do things her own

Phones And Their Effects On Your Phone
Phones, I have one, you have one, your great grandmother has one, and possibly even your toddler

being so convenient for on the go activity it is no wonder that many people, young and old alike,
forget how to live without the use of their handheld lifeline. Just because you love your phone does
not mean that you are addicted per say, however, because you love your phone and feel like you need
it always that may be a sign that you are addicted to your phone. Signs of being addicted to your
phone can be as small as feeling incomplete without it to as great as tuning the people out around you
to be in your cellular device. Composed below are 14 signs of how you may be addicted to your
phone: 1.) Feel like you re missing out on the world around you. You feel that without your phone you
are undoubtedly missing out and are no longer in the know or loop when it is not by your side. 2.)
Constantly checking your phone. Like constantly CONSTANTLY. You need to repetitively check your
phone to see what s going on or what you may have missed. When it gets to the point that you are
checking your phone every second of every minute continually, you may just be addicted my friend.

The Nile River, The Greatest River In The World
Egyptian civilization was one of the oldest in the world history. The Nile River placed the great role in
this civilization, and it led to great stupendous achievements. Nile river is one of the greatest rivers I
have seen in my whole life. Nile river is located in Cairo, which is the capital city of Egypt. It has
many reasons to make it one of the most important rivers in the world. I have visited Egypt many
times. and I have talked to a lot of Egyptian citizens, and they told me that Nile river is the longest
river in the world. Nile river is one of the most important rivers for me for three reasons; beauty
nature, friendly people, and the entertainment around the river. Firstly, the natural beauty is mysterious
and beautiful for me, because every part of the river it has different nature. The north of the river is
full of different trees which have given the river great view and nature. For example, palm sycamore
maple, and tamarisk. The south of the river is completely dry and dessert free of nature and what
makes it completely different from the north of the river and it is strange that the most of the tourism
is close to the south of the river and after searching for the cause I found that the Egyptian civilization
began from the south of the river and still the Egyptians stuck to civilization history; However, My
first trip to the river was ten years ago with my family and it became our greatest place ever. I went
there for a picnic with my family and I

  • 2. Interpreting Nature Edgar Allen Poe s creation of the detective Le Chevalier C. Auguste Dupin paved the way for detective stories. .......................................... One of the main characteristics of successful analysis, as said by Holmes, is the ability to reason backwards ( A Study in Scarlet ). These views reflect the thoughts of the 17th century philosopher of science, Sir Francis Bacon. Sherlock also uses the phrase ones ideas must be as broad as nature if they are to interpret nature. This idea of interpreting nature is also similar to Bacon s views as Bacon writes about interpreting nature in one of his philosophical works called The Novum Organum Scientiarium (which translates as The New Instrument of Science). Philanthropist and founder of the McCauley institute ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Edmond Locard was an avid reader of the Sherlock Holmes stories and was influenced very heavily by them, so much so that he built his own forensics laboratory. He proceeded to create Locard s Exchange Principle which explains that if two things rub upon each other for example (or come into contact with each other) they will always leave a trace of themselves on each other, every contact leaves a trace. Locard was very influential in the field of forensic science as he developed the science of poroscopy which is the study of the pores in fingerprints, and also said that if 12 points of two fingerprints matched that they were the same, i.e. a positive identification. In A Study In Scarlet, Holmes talks about the identification of ashes and afterward Locard wrote a paper on the identification of tobacco by a study on ashes. Locard also published a paper titled The Analysis of Dust Traces in which he directly address the Holmes novels, saying a police expert... would not find it a waste of time to read Doyle s novels. Although it took some time to build, he never gave up and kept on trying if he didn t get it right the first time. He was a very good man and received many awards for his accomplishments. His story was that he was while living in Germany a war was going to happen and he didn t want to get killed before he could have his dream to come true. • 4. Sisyphus Deception Albert Camus, a French philosopher who tries to decipher a meaningful world through the trails and tribulation of life. His piece, The Myth of Sisyphus can be interpreted that the essay represents man s struggle to belong, an endless journey to achieve, and a glimpse of his own fate. Sisyphus is the absurd hero. He is, as much through his passions as through his torture . (Camus, The Myth of Sisyphus) There is scarcely any person without struggle. (Camus, The Myth of Sisyphus) Sisyphus is a devious mortal creature who is willing to betray his fellow man. Having minimal respect for his gods, Sisyphus has a willingness to deceive in order to receive what he wants. Just as Sisyphus deceived his own wife, man deceives man. Somehow, man can look past his deception and justify it with the thought process that their deception has not hurt anyone. There is a multitude of scenarios in which I find myself like Sisyphus but it is the one man who changes those patterns. It is the one man who finds himself, moving away from the norm and what society portrays as truth. When that man emerges, it is difficult but courageous. It is a meaningful transformation that will assist in helping others find who they were meant to be. There is no fate that can not be surmounted by scorn. (Camus, The Myth Of Sisyphus) Having a glimpse of your own fate is for those who choose to continue the struggle of the uphill climb and the repetitive fall, and untrustworthy happiness. They will always be tormented as Sisyphus was, because they will always be searching for something they can t find. The lack of fulfillment will devastate them spiritually, emotionally and mentally. The stability of man will falter and the foundation they think they have with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is bordered to the west by Ivory Coast; to the north by Burkina Faso; to the east by Togo and to the south by the Gulf of Guinea and the Atlantic Ocean. Ghana was the first African country to gain independence from colonization by the United Kingdom on the 6th March 1957 under the leadership of Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah who was the first Prime Minister as well as the First President of Ghana. In terms of population policies and programmes which is the subject matter of this paper Ghana was the third country in Sub Saharan Africa after Mauritius(1958) and Kenya(1967) to adopt an explicit and comprehensive policy on population in the year 1969.This paper discusses the population policies and programmes of Ghana vis a vis its demographic profile over time. Even in the colonial times Ghana was seen as a country with prospects. From about 1945 to 1957 which is after the Second World War Gold Coast was a model colony of the British empire given that it was endowed with a relatively advanced network of infrastructure and social service institutions in health and education. These were facilities that had been financed with the proceeds of a previous cocoa boom in the 1920 s. The cocoa boom was so remunerative to the extent that the Governor Gordon Guggisberg felt confident enough as to write a long term development plan for the colony. As early as 1947 the colony ... • 8. The Annals of Tacitus Essay Tacitus tells us in the introduction to his Annales that his intent is to relate a little about Augustus, Tiberius, et cetera and to in fact do so sine ira et studio without bitterness or bias.1 Experience, however, tells us that this aim is rarely executed, and that we must be all the more suspicious when it is stated outright. Throughout the Annales, Tacitus rather gives the impression that his lack of bias is evidenced by his evenhanded application of bitterness to all his subjects. But is this really the case? While Tacitus tends to apply his sarcastic wit universally to barbarian and Roman alike this is not necessarily evidence of lack of bias. Taking the destruction of Mona and Boudicca s revolt (roughly 14.28 37) as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Vergilian references continue throughout the passage. Chapter 14.31 features an unusual use of rebellio ( rebellationem ), used to describe rebelling tribes, only seen elsewhere in the Aeneid (12.186), again in relation to the Trojans.5 Skipping ahead to the end 14.33, Tacitus describes the rebellious Britons as being uninterested in belli commercium, or the commerce of war, i.e., the trading and selling of hostages. This is another phrase borrowed from Vergil (Aeneid 10.532), used in fact by Aeneas in denouncing the practice. The last Aeneid reference occurs in 14.34, immediately preceding Boudicca s rallying speech which begins in 14.35: the use of exultabant to describe the Celtic armies battle strategy.6 This is a usage derived from 11.663 of the Aeneid, which describes the warrior Camilla, enemy of Aeneas, in a passage comparing her to Penthesilea and the Amazons, who actually defended Troy during the war. Tacitus reminds his reader that there is a long tradition of comparing enemies of Rome to noble allies of the past, and prepares us to see Boudicca as the heir of female warriors like Camilla and Penthesilea. Beak of the Finch Chapter Summaries Eliel Pepito 8/1/10 The Beak of the Finch Summary The Beak of the Finch by Jonathan Weiner explores evolution through the most famous examples in history the finches of the Galápagos Islands. Charles Darwin s theory of natural selection and the process of evolution are applied directly to what scientists refer to as Darwin s Finches. Weiner follows scientists Peter and Rosemary Grant as they study the finches in real time on the Galápagos. Years of previous work, study and data is collected and analyzed. Different species of animals are observed and explained throughout history. The Grants have one goal, and that is to find the origin of the species, how organisms first began. They find that it really is about the survival of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Grants observed how the two ground finches preformed while attempting to obtain a seed called a Caltrop. Caltrops naturally have spikes around the seed as a defense against intruders. The Magnirostris did not have a hard time cracking open the Caltrop, with its hard, powerful jaw. However the Fortis would have to put more effort into cracking a single seed. The regular Fortis would try for six times and then give up, moving on to another seed. They will often move onto a different seed without trying. However the Fortis with a beak that is slightly deeper beak would attempt to crack the caltrop, and after a few tries, will succeed. The Grant s are capable of studying Darwin s theory of natural selection in action, after gathering data from their colleagues, Peter Boag and Laurene Ratcliffe, who would be their watch on Daphne Island. Peter and Laurene witnessed an important event in natural selection, during a life or death situation with the finches. Though the two scientists were anxious for rain, but they did not receive a single drop that season. Rain would mean reproduction and fertility for the finches; however, the birds were faced with e horrible drought. Food became scarce and the finch population declined. Easy seeds to obtain on the ground were nearly gone. The seeds with tougher defenses, such as the caltrop, were usually untouched, since they were hard to crack. The finches with inadequate beaks did not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Federal Government Should Have Greater Authority On... This paper will discuss the prevailing Canadian debate of whether the federal government should have greater authority on administering health care. Essentially, Canada s health care program referred to as Medicare, is administered by the provinces while regulated by the federal government through the Canada Health Act of 1984. One side of the debate, using the political theory of pluralism, argues against federal leadership and instead emphasizes for provincial authority on matters of health care since Canada is inherently composed of individuals with differing interests and values. Through a decentralized framework, each province will be able to implement efficient health services that will meet the demands of its citizens. Their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The political elites also acknowledged that it would be in their best interests to respond to group demands. Barker s second contention states that provinces can provide the best quality health care according to their demographics and socioeconomic factors. For example, Saskatchewan primarily utilizes its federal grants for a community based approach of providing health care such rehabilitation services while Ontario primarily invests in effective hospital care. Through a pluralist approach, Barker argues that various interest groups exist that want to play a role in the decision making of national programs to meet their own needs and therefore diversities can be best accommodated when provinces lead social programs. However, an institutionalist approach can critique the pluralist contentions made by Barker. Regarding his legal contention, it can be argued that the distribution of power on health care depicted in the constitution is outdated since there were vast divisions between English and French physicians as well as differing health and religious practices during the 1800s. Due to the divisions, it was resolved that the provinces would administer public policies regarding ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. Reflection On The Root Cellar Since the beginning of September, I have been attending the Root Cellar in Portland Maine. My work has varied time to time, but, mostly includes watching and hanging out with kids from age 5 18. I also helped with projects around the organization and preparing meals for kids. Throughout my time at the root cellar, I have noticed multiple scenarios where concepts we learn in the classroom are evident with my experiences at this organization. The first concept or chapter I am going to focus on is education. They provide multiple services for the students attending to perform well in school and get extra help on homework or any other school work. They provide private tutors for free in which they will help students with specific subjects. Two times specifically stand out to me when thinking about the concept of education. The first was when I was walking by and witnessed an older gentleman helping a student for about an hour with his english homework. Next was when a little boy in the 4th grade came up to me and asked for some help with his math homework. • 21. Power Of Joseph Stalin Following the death of Lenin in January 1924, Joseph Stalin emerged as the vital dictator of Russia in February; he ruled the Soviet Union like a personal fiefdom. He aimed to transform the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) from a backwards agriculture society into a great industrial totalitarian nation, which he believed was essential if Russia was to survive in a world of powerful and hostile capitalist states (Todd Allan 2001). Stalin claimed that The major priority should be to consolidate the Marxian socialist system with the USSR and make the country strong again (Cowie. H.R, 1992). Stalin subsequently based the organisation of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union Government (CPSUG) on the principles of democratic centralism, aiming to achieve the dictatorship of the proletariat (Payton Rousseau). According to Payton Rousseau, under Stain s reign, the CPSUG and Soviet Government were two separate bodies, however, almost all high government officials were Bolsheviks party members. It was this system of interlocking dual membership that enabled the CPSU to both make and enforce policy (Payton Rousseau). This level of government authority allowed Stalin to enact any policy he saw necessary, as he was the leading General Secretary and by the late 1930 s Joseph Stalin was exercising as much power, in as authoritarian a manner, as the Tsars had done before him (Cowie. Nile river is located in Cairo, which is the capital city of Egypt. It has many reasons to make it one of the most important rivers in the world. I have visited Egypt many times. and I have talked to a lot of Egyptian citizens, and they told me that Nile river is the longest river in the world. Nile river is one of the most important rivers for me for three reasons; beauty nature, friendly people, and the entertainment around the river. Firstly, the natural beauty is mysterious and beautiful for me, because every part of the river it has different nature.
