Martha Stewart Trial Case
In 2001 public celebrity Martha Stewart sold stock in a large biotech company named ImClone. This
act landed her in a large amount of trouble with the Federal Government and the SEC. She was held to
trial and many things were told and discussed throughout the trial case. Through this research you will
see several people s sides and statements they made during the jury trial and throughout the whole
case.
On December 29, 2001, just two days after Celebrity Martha Stewart sold her stock in ImClone, the
companies stock dropped sixteen percent when the Food and Drug Administration told it had rejected
the main drug Erbitux, for cancer treatment. (According to an article written by Julia Leite of the
Columbia Journalism School) Martha, by selling right before the FDA s announcement, she avoided a
loss of $45,673, a tiny fraction of her net worth, which the famous Forbes magazine estimated at $700
million just six months earlier. This decision that Stewart made would end up being one of the biggest
she would make during her whole career, that would also send her to federal prison. She was not the
only person that had invested in the company that avoided major losses just before the decision of the
FDA. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Regulators of the SEC had an easier job finding the CEO of insider trading, because when someone of
that authority sells a large amount of their own company s stock just a few days before the FDA
announcement raises a large and obvious red flag. The case for Martha Stewart would be more
complicated and more research had to be done by the regulators to prove her guilty. During the
investigation and the court trial, a piece of information was told that could hurt Martha s chance for
proving she was not

The Internship Reflection
Storyline summary
The Internship is a film in which two middle aged salesmen, Billy McMahon (Vince Vaughn) and
Nick Campbell (Owen Wilson) find that their careers have become redundant due to the increasing
growth and development of modern technology, in which they are not well versed.
Billy McMahon and Nick Campbell now face unemployment and have no desirable directions to
venture towards. It is in the time of this crisis that Billy McMahon shows his resilience to surrender as
he spots the opportunity of a Google internship.
Their unorthodox interview responses and persuasive salesmen nature causes the Google management
to be intrigued enough to accept them into the intern program in spite of their clear lack of the
necessary expertise.

The first example of conflict in the film is in the scene where Nick and Billy find out that their
business is closing down. The source of this conflict is due to a lack of communication from their
former employer, who failed to inform them of the business s foreclosure. Furthermore, the emotional
reactions from Billy, Nick and their employer allowed for the conflict to fester. The former employer
neglected to manage this dysfunctional conflict and thus neither of the conflicted parties benefitted.
Very definitely, the dysfunctional nature of the conflict and an absence of the necessary conflict
management allowed for both parties to leave

Class Stereotyping
Have you ever been stereotyped by what clothes you wear, how much money you make, or even the
car you drive? This happen way too often than not. Imagine this: you came to this country when you
were little. Your parents and yourself work hard everyday to get a better life. Soon you are in high
school and start driving a honda. Of course your friends drive better cars such as mustangs. It s hard to
know that you re putting your best effort and yet it s not good enough for. The people you know.Today
I will talk about class stereotype and how they are learned and how they impact ourselves as human
beings good and bad.

People that are in the working class,or middle class can t be successful. In reality this is false. I also
been a victim of this since most of by information a couple of years back was mostly from social

of latinos or african americans. Take Oprah or Michael Jordan for example. There are perhap one of
the most successful people and yet they don t get a lot of attention or brought up in social media. The

how he looks at himself is different than if he couldn t have taken that opportunity. Another common

Management Strategy And Decision Making

Part 3: Management Strategy and Decision Making
a. Executive Summary of Part 3 Part three of the textbook contains chapters 5 through 8 which give a
broad overview of creating an overall strategy for a company. In short, this process creates the
company s mission statement. Our social media company Twitter mission statement states, To give
everyone the power to create and share ideas and information instantly, without barriers. This is very
important because it allows both internal and external users to know what the company is about as a
whole. The management strategy and decision making sections is a bit different from other aspects in

explains the process of decision making in management. Managers make decisions every day and
have to live with the consequences. In the moment decisions sometimes ignore long term
consequences, especially the unforeseen ones. That s why managers need to see the big picture and
begin the decision making process with planning and defining the goal. This chapter explains how
companies should approach decision making to satisfy both short and long term success. In this news
related article to Twitter decision makings, it exemplifies the importance of the actual person of who is
making the decisions. According to this article, twitter shares increased after news that its chief
executive Dick Costolo will step down. Costolo, who resigned voluntarily, has been the subject of
scrutiny over the company slow user growth and advertising struggle. Twitter cofounder Jack Dorsey
will resume serving as the temporary Ceo until a replacement is found. This article relates to our
company to show that decisions that management imposes on the company are direct a result of the
success it has.

Political Parties And The Media s Influence On Politics
Linkage institutions are a way of linking the American people to the government and political process,
and often influence the policy agenda. A few examples of linkage institutions are political parties and
the media. Political parties have always been a part of the U.S. government since the federalists and
antifederalists, and have since majorly evolved into what we now see as the Democratic and
Republican parties. The media has always been a major influence on politics from the time of basic
newspapers to the modern platforms of television and social media. (insert thesis)
Political parties link the american people to the political process by displaying a wide variety of
political views and ideas which, many of the american people can relate to. Political parties are able to
link the people to the political process by being elected, Each party seeks political power by electing
people to office so that its positions and philosophy become public policy....People, then, link to their
government by identifying themselves (How Do Citizens Connect With Their Government?). This is

Summary Of Christopher Nolan s Evacuation Of Dunkirk
Q. In what ways do Christopher Nolan and ________ develop the idea of causality of war in Dunkirk
and Evacuation of Dunquecue, respectively?
Within Christopher Nolan s Film Dunkirk and _______ s poem Evacuation of Dunkirk both authors
explore the causality of war. Both texts are set in the same situation and both explore the different
aspects of the evacuation of Dunkirk from two similar but different sources. They both develop the
themes of isolation, honour and hope. Specifically, Nolan uses his filmmaking style to its essence,
resulting in scenes of simple but immensely charged visual momentum. Whilst ______ s poem
connects to the reader on an emotional level, almost giving the reader a perspective of what it was like
to be a part of the historical event.
Christopher Nolan, throughout the course of his film uses a range muted colours as well as bluish
tones in order to reflect the water and the heavy machinery. Nolan uses a range of camera techniques
including close ups, mid range, long shots as well as the most obvious overhead shots. Nolan uses
these overhead shots multiple times but especially of the soldiers distributed across a beach convey
and unnerving isolation, as it these were there last times on earth as they look as if they are alone and
deserted. Another example of how Nolan s cinematography successfully depicts the evacuation of
Dunkirk is when soldiers are found waiting for the tide in an abandoned boat. In this scene, the

Mr. Kidder would point out the conflict of interest from the truck driver who is risking his or her life

questioned by one s mere presence and higher authority that intimidates people. Along with this the
driver pays the tolls to use the roads or bridges even though; the SafeZone Relief Company has a strict

going against a policy that was passed to not have things like happen. Finally, the last recognizable
and moral issue present through all of these issues is the lack of concern for social responsibility and
the common good. Elbonian relief program is helping out people in war torn countries that are

Hereditary Angioedema Essay
Hereditary Angioedema: Current and New Treatments to Relieve Sudden Attacks.
Hereditary Angioedema is an inherited disease caused by the disfunction of the protein C1 inhibitor
which is mechanically responsible for inhibiting the activation of the complement system, a humoral
aspect of the innate immune system. Intravenous treatment has been used for many years to prevent
and relieve the effects of sudden edema attacks caused by spontaneous activation of the complement
system within the victim s cardiovascular system. However apart from being highly invasive, current
intravenous treatment is not convenient in cases of sudden, spontaneous edema attacks.
Recently studies have been undertaken to develop an effective subcutaneous treatment option for ...

Triggering mechanisms include: physical trauma, surgery, dental procedures, and emotional stress. It
has been noted that almost any level of trauma can trigger an edema attack, from typing on a keyboard
to mowing the lawn. Emotional stress is another often encountered cause of edema attacks. The
buildup of stress has been well documented in it s effects on the immune system, often in a negative
capacity. This appears to be enough to trigger attacks spontaneously in those with a copy of the
mutated C1 inhibitor gene. Trigger of an edema attack by surgery or dental procedures are also usually
the result of trauma and can heavily affect the methods and outcome of any such procedures
undertaken.3
Because Hereditary angioedema attacks can be triggered by common occurrences throughout any
given day in the average person s life, those affected by hereditary angioedema must take special care
with their actions and more closely monitor their environment as well as their stress levels. Though

KILLER ANGELS
AUTHOR: MICHAEL SHAARA
Set in the American Civil War, Killer Angels gives the viewpoints of four Generals (Generals Lee
Longstreet from the South and Generals Chamberlain Buford from the Union) as they fight through
the battle of Gettysburg.
The year is 1863. The American Civil War has dragged on for over two years. For most of the war the
South has been playing defense in their own background, using maneuvers and tactics to gain
impressive victories over the far superior Union Army. General Meade has been thrust into command
of the Army of the Potomac. President Lincoln faces heat in Washington and his reelection is in doubt.
The time is now for General Lee and the Army of Northern Virginia to go on the offense and end the

He attempts to gather all his divisions together and begin his offensive campaign against General
Meade s armies. On the Union side, General Buford engages Lee s forces until dusk in order to hold
off their advances and allow his men to keep the high ground and gain a strategic advantage. It
appears that Lee has gained a major victory at this point since Buford ran to the hills . Day two dawns
with General Longstreet trying to convince Lee that the Army of Northern Virginia is not built to go
on the offensive and that a full on assault campaign will ruin the Army. Lee pays no heed. General
Chamberlain and his Maine Men are the end of the Union Line and successfully holds off a far
superior Confederate assault and keep the high ground. On the third and final day of the battle,
General Lee commits the greatest folly of his illustrious career. Again dismissing the pleas of
Longstreet, Lee sends General Pickett and his division across an open field to attack the Union
position. To this day, military historians are unsure why Lee sent Picket on this suicide mission.
Pickett s Charge led to catastrophic losses for the Confederate Army and a shocked General Lee was
forced to call retreat. Thus ended the bloodiest battle of the American Civil War and effectively ended
the war for all intents and purposes (although the war would rage on for another year and a half). The
Army of Northern Virginia would never again make a serious venture into the Northern

Similes In George Elliott Clarke s The Wisdom Of Shelley
The Wisdom Of Shelley by George Elliott Clarke is a beautifully written poem with a darker meaning.
There are many interesting things hiding within the poem but there are a few specific ones I will
mention. First, there are many different poetic devices used within this short poem. This includes
imagery, similes, and repetition. Second, the symbol of this poem is the rose which is mentioned a few
times throughout the poem. Third, the theme for The Wisdom Of Shelley is deception. Each of these
points contributes to my understanding of the poem in its own way. There are many poetic devices
used throughout The Wisdom Of Shelley . Repetition of words was the first thing that really jumped
out at me. Clarke repeats the words words words words (4), and loved loved loved (15). What I
believe this represents is how the character X only says empty words to what I presume is his family.
If you need to repeat the word loved three times, then it starts to feel like you are only saying the
words to make the other person happy.
The first few lines of the poem say You come down, after / five winters, X, / bristlin with roses (1 3)
and this can be taken as X has been gone for five years showing no signs of returning. He suddenly
shows up with roses one day and expects all to be forgotten and forgiven. The presumed child does not
want to forgive him and forget about what happened. This really sets the mood and tone for what is
going to happen in the poem. Since it is

Those older folks become insecure and even have problems with their spouses and younger family

population in nursing homes tend to be senior citizens. They are stuck in homes because their families
have already given up on them. Research shows that most suicides are committed by senior citizens.
In 2010, the highest suicide rate occurred in the age range of 45 64 years old. The next highest rate
occurred with those over age 85. They are driven mostly because the younger members of their
families do not give them enough attention. Research over the past several decades has repeatedly

Amt Case Analysis Essay
1. What has created the need for additional finance by AMT since 1983? The need for additional
financing is a result of multiple factors that placed intense pressure on available cash. The first factor
is the extraordinary growth AMT has experienced the last few years with an annual sales growth rate
of 52.88%. The extreme growth rate in sales was accompanied with heavy spending on research and
development along with rapid expansion in the company s sales force and other marketing
expenditures. What made matters worse is the company has incurred operating losses, which meant
that generating cash from operations was at best limited or insufficient. The second major factor is the
inefficient use or mismanagement of some of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Accounts Payable Days and Accrued Expenses also play a critical role. Days Payable is set at 50 while
Accrued Expenses is assumed to be 5% of Sales. Cash as a percent of sales is set at 7.5%. Going
forward, and assuming 7.5% ratio, which is very similar to the industry upper quartile in 1985, cash
balances at AMT will remains solid going forward. Note that the industry s cash to sales ratio is not
given directly but can be deducted by taking the Cash to Assets ratio of 16.3% (1985) and Assets to
Sales ratio of 45.3% (Upper Quartile in 1985). Reshuffling these figures yields the industry s Cash to
Sales of 7.4%. All these assumptions about net working capital result in tremendous need for external
financing over the next several years as mentioned earlier. Annual Sales growth is expected to be at
high rate 30% over the next 5 years, which puts tremendous pressure on cash. Poor management of
working capital will unnecessarily tie up cash, thus requiring external financing from banks such as
Western National Bank. Looking at cash to sales ratio, the historical trend for AMT is very much
disturbing with the last two years having negative cash balances. With the 7.5% ratio of cash to net
sales, cash balances, when managed efficiently, will remain at healthy levels over the next 5 years.
The above discussion shows that high growth in sales, which is typically accompanied with high
growth in working capital exerts tremendous

Research Report On Pike River Coal Mine Essay
Introduction
In November 2010, an explosion occurred in Pike River coal mine (PRCM) that caused the death of
29 miners. It was considered as the worst incident in New Zealand after 96 years (Mussen, Dally,
Watkins, Chapman, 2012). Pike River Coal Mine was set to be the largest underground coal mine in
New Zealand. The explosion occurred 2 months after the mine started their operation. In this report,
project management failures in Pike River mine will be discuss and the ways that it could be
improved. We will also analyse the theory of team process, motivation and communication and how it
relates to the issues surrounding the disaster.
Pike River represented a number of project management failures. Discuss what they were and how
could the management of this project have been improved.
Coal mining is said to be one of the most dangerous type of mining in the world because it exposes
miners to a wide range of risks and health hazards inside the tunnel (Gowrisankaran, He, Lutz,
Burgess. 2015). Health and Safety was the major issue identified in the Pike River mine disaster.
Proper inspection was not implemented to ensure safety of employees, contractors and subcontractors.
They also have insufficient information on the geological location of the mine which was a major
factor in the disaster.

Education Is Important Or Valuable
When students hear the word education , they associate it with the word school and a picture of an
angry teacher commanding them to do things. It is rare for students to announce that education is
important or valuable. When a person is given the opportunity to observe a school environment in
depth, they would witness how students lack motivation to go to school since they think of it as a
prison. They would witness how students are cramming and rushing to do their homework at lunch
because they did not bother to do it at home. They would witness how, sometimes, teachers leave
students on their own to avoid work. Education has been taken advantage of and dismissed. The mere

It is time to start to take advantage of the free education that is given and start appreciating it.
Acquiring an education enlightens us with the truth behind the things that concern us. People might
put that it is better to know less, but ignorance is not bliss nor heaven; it is a dark cave that hides us
from the light of the truth and education is the agent that takes off the blindfold. Mark Twain is one of
the people that argues that education robs the romance and the beauty (Paragraph 4) of the things that
surrounds us. He argues in his essay, Two Views of Mississippi , that once was the river a wonderful
book to him, but after learning much about it, he concludes that he is now flooded with the danger and
the dreadful things that the river offers. Although one can see Twain s point of view and how it
connects to the popular proverb that Ignorance is bliss , one can argue that it is up to a person s choice
on how he or she would view situations even with its suggestive danger. Students whose danger is
possibly failing a class or disappointing people, like Twain, are often led to believe that failing is the
worst thing that could happen to their educational career or life. The knowledge that there could be
danger when students pursue or try new things forces them to stay comfortable and cease to try. A
common occurrence in a high school environment is that a student would not take Honors or

Within the scientific community some people believe that you cannot have a scientific mind and hold

An endless series of causes and events does not make sense. This would mean a continual causal loop
which cannot exist, nor could a causal chain of infinite length exist without there being something to
first cause the loop to begin. This would require some kind of unrestricted or ultimate being which we
Christians and some philosophers call God.
The Apostle Paul speaks about natural revelation in Romans 1:20 and Albert Einstein alludes to
natural revelation3 when he says, I do not believe in a personal God and I have never denied this but
expressed it clearly. If there is something in me called religious then it is the unbounded admiration
for the structure of the world so far as our science can reveal it. With natural revelation we see that one
can logically construct the belief in a God by simply observing the things present in nature.
The prevalent acceptance that the universe had a chronological origin meaningfully shifted the stance
in favor of belief in a first cause or an intelligent designer of the universe, which caused the universe
to appear (Pg. 84).2 Many scientist hold to the theory that the universe is continually moving out away
from a central focus point. What is this central focal point? Christians can point to this being the
creator or the creation form which God created the universe Ex nihilo.

Film Form
Week 2 Film: The Wizard of Oz
FORM: is the sum of all parts of the film, unified and given shape by patterns such as repetition and
variation, story lines and character traits.
Film is not the product of a random collection of technical devices, but rather, it is a system
THE CONCEPT OF FORM IN A FILM
Artworks involve us by engaging our senses, feelings and mind in a process.
The artwork cues the spectator to perform a specific activity.
 Example: A poem s words may guide us to imagine a scene, to notice a break in rhythm or to expect
a rhyme
Like all artworks, film is not simply a random batch of elements, film has a form.
Film form is the overall system of relations that we can perceive among the elements in the ... Show

I.e. A characters sly expression may prepare us for the later revelation of their villainous side
A tragic event might be undercut by lighthearted music
 Emotional response felt by the spectator
Just as formal Conventions can make us suspend our normal sense of real life experience; form may
lead us to override our everyday emotional responses.
 People who we Despise in life may become spellbinding as characters
 Wizard of Oz: We might find the land of Oz much more appealing than Kansas, but because the
films form leads us to sympathize with Dorothy in her desire to go home, we feel satisfied when she
finally returns home to Kansas.
Expectation spurs emotion
 To have an expectation about what will happen is to incest some emotion in the situation.
Delayed fulfillment of an emotion (suspense), may produce anxiety or sympathy
Gratified expectations may create a feeling of relief
Form and Meaning
When we watch films, we re looking to attribute a deeper significance or meaning to the artwork as a
whole.
As spectators we develop meaning based upon the juxtaposition of images and sounds in the film, and
the way we perceive them is shaped by our own cultural social experiences.

A small scale investigation into the factors influencing the conceptual change in children s scientific
thinking Abstract The present study aims to compare how Piaget and Vygotsky theories promote
conceptual change in children s scientific thinking. The investigation is an adaptation of a procedure
used in 1930 by Piaget and compares two children s predictions and explanations of why some objects
float or sink. Children s thinking is then challenged using discovery learning and scaffolding with the
aim to investigate how each approach promotes a shift in their scientific thinking. Their explanations
are coded, quantified and compared. The findings support Piaget stage theory and although

Participants Volunteering children from a primary school in the Oxford area, in the UK, were video
recorded taking part into a practical investigation of objects that float and sink. Two video recorded
interviews were retained for the purpose of the study: one with Daniel, a 7 years old boy; and the other
with Jessica, a 12 years old girl. Material The interviews were video recorded by a film producer, two
camera operators and a sound recordist, using cameras, lights and a microphone boom. The interviews
took between 30 and 35 minutes. The interviewer used the same objects with all the participants. They
are listed in Appendix 1 and 2 (Object column). In addition a plastic balance and 2 similar boxes but
of different size filled with the same quantity of lenses were employed. The video recorded interviews
and their transcripts were provided on a Media Kit DVD ROM as part of course resources, together
with a collection data sheet form. Procedure Semi structured interviews were conducted individually
by Terezinha Nunes, at that time Professor of Psychology at Oxford Brookes University and who did
not previously know the participants, in Daniel s school library room, during the school day, in March
2005. Both children were accompanied by a classroom assistant. A film producer, two camera

The Origins And Usefulness Of Auteur
Explore the origins and usefulness of auteur theory in relation to a non American director of your
choice.
The concept of Auteur was first introduced by Andre Bazin in an essay featured in a 1954 edition of
Cahier du Cinema, often referred to as camera stylo or signature style as a way of critiquing French
new wave cinema. This theory allowed film to be criticised and analysed in the same way as other
creative platforms such as art and literature. By identifying the director as auteur as opposed to just
Metteur en Scène it transformed them into an artisté, by assuming creative control they in turn gave a
film a certain style. The auteur was a director consistently expressing his own unique obsessions, the

Taking Steven Spielberg as example, Spielberg is certainly one of the most successful directors of
modern cinema due in part to his joint ownership of DreamWorks Studios with Jeffery Katzenberg and

Hollywood and almost unique in that he can take complete creative control of project he instead
chooses to remain in a director/ producer capacity alone. He will hire the writers and editors, one s he
has built relationships with over his career, most famously his working relationship with composer
John Williams. Because production companies are once again taking control of the technical side of
filmmaking auteur theory is called into question. With film festivals supporting the idea of auteur to
promote an indie image and boost sales by turning the director into a celebrity for serious movie fans
and production companies supporting this to create a unity between films and avoid loss from
unsuccessful pictures then it is questionable if the concept of auteur can exist

Phoenix Jackson In The Worn Path By Eudora Welty
Eudora Welty uses partial third person to evoke sympathy from the reader for Phoenix Jackson by
revealing her thoughts in the conversations she has with herself. In these conversations, readers get a
glimpse of her deteriorating mental clarity and health that comes with age. Her growing senility can be
seen when she sees the scarecrow as a ghost. She tells the scarecrow, who d you be the ghost of? For I

statements like, it was my memory had left me. there I sat and forgot why I had made the trip (Welty

The Worn Path , Eudora Welty describes Phoenix Jackson in a such a manner, the reader feels as if

The Causes Of The American Revolution And The English...
The English Revolution from 1640 to 1660 Although the English Revolution began in 1640, there was
discontent and conflict during the Stuart dynasty which lasted between 1603 and 1640. Between 1603
and 1625 King James I ruled England. He was unsuccessful in unifying Scotland and England, there
was steep religious division between the Church of England, which was Anglo Catholic , and the
Protestant Nonconformists, political division between the crown and parliament consistently
disagreeing over the constitution, fiscal policy, taxation, religious policy, and foreign policy, and
England s beginning colonization of North America and the Caribbean. In 1625, King James I dies
and King Charles succeeds him. King Charles begins his reign with lack of money, religious
disagreement and a European war, the Thirty Years War which King James I attempted to keep out of.
From 1629 to 1640, King Charles I tries to rule without parliament and raises revenue outside of
Parliament through his prerogative powers. This revenue was mainly through customs taxation,
granting monopolies, and ship money. This not only irritated parliament, but also many of his subjects.
Parliament and the landed elite that it represents see his actions as the exercise of arbitrary power , a
power which threatens their personal liberties and private property. He adopted a non Calvinist,
ritualistic form of Protestantism that seemed to have similarities to Catholicism. This infuriated radical
reformers, such

The Scientific Revolution Essay
During the Scientific Revolution scientists such as Galileo, Copernicus, Descartes and Bacon wrestled
with questions about God, human aptitude, and the possibilities of understanding the world.
Eventually, the implications of the new scientific findings began to affect the way people thought and
behaved throughout Europe. Society began to question the authority of traditional knowledge about
the universe. This in turn, allowed them to question traditional views of the state and social order. No
longer was the world constructed as the somewhat simple Ptolemaic Model suggested. The Earth for
the first time became explicable and was no longer the center of the universe. Many beliefs that had

The statement acts to justify his finding with the church and connect them to God. Copernicus realized
that the church would be quick to judge him, and possibly this is why he didn t publish his theories
until late in his life. His discoveries were not so much as important as were his methods of observation
and application of mathematics to explain the world. His methods of discovery helped model the
direction of science over the next hundred years.
Another important figure in the Scientific Revolution was Galileo Galilei. He was an Italian born
professor of mathematics who had a great interest in the workings of the universe. Galileo served as a
professor at the University of Padua, and it was during this time that he began to question the accuracy
of the Churches representation of the world. Galileo s approach towards knowledge was much
different then the afore mentioned Copernicus. Where as Copernicus presented his finding to the
mercy of the church, Galileo wrote his conclusions and left the Roman Catholic Church interpret them
as they chose. The very nature of his findings pitted him as an opponent of the church.
The Earth was not the center of the universe. Galileo had seen far into the heavens with the telescope
he had designed and created an even more accurate mold of the universe. He trumpeted his views
everywhere, and condemned anyone who

Maintain its level of SKU because it would be going after a different niche
Reduce the losses of Precision if cost were to decrease if it were not successful.
Negative:
Maintain its current level of sales in mass merchandiser
CP s retail sales would be less than if mainstream

Behavior Modification And Its Effect On Behavior Essay
Behaviors, are what people do and say, as humans, we notice how certain behaviors can be desirable
but also undesirable. Though behavior modification, a person can attempt to alter a specific behavior
by analyzing the behavior, and create a personalized plan to modify the behavior. When analyzing the
behavior a person needs to decide if the behavior is either is in excess (to decrease the undesirable
behavior) or deficit (to increase desirable behavior). Once behavior is the selected, then the person
must decide if they desire to increase or decrease their behavior. Afterwards, the person needs to
create a plan of action, this depends on their research design and recording method. The plan action is
personalized for each study. Behavior modification allows a person to analyze a specific behavior and
use a scientific technique to test if their treatment/intervention will modify their behavior. For
example, I choose a target behavior to modify this semester which was studying. I had a behavioral
deficit in studying that I desired to address, I wished to increase my time studying by twenty five
percent. My definition of studying was any time (in minutes) that I dedicated to focusing on material
necessary for my current classes, some examples are reading material for class, doing assignments for
class (homework or essays), and reviewing material for exams (additional reading, notes, or index
cards). I wished to address my study habits because I had noticed I felt like I never

Measuring Gross Income Data Is A Measure Of Economic Welfare
Evaluate the extent to which Gross Income Data is a measure of economic welfare.
Morven Chan
Economic welfare is defined as the level prosperity and financial satisfaction of participants in an
economy. Economic welfare can often be assessed through statistics such as the level of employment.
National income statistics is defined as the value of goods and services produced in an economic
system over a period of time. National Income can be broken down into four different parts which
include Gross Domestic Product (GDP), Gross National Product (GNP), GDP per capita, and GNP per
capita. National Income is used for variety of purposes in our economy. Firstly, national income

Therefore as is shown through the expenditure method, the equation for GDP becomes:
GDP=C+G+I+(X M)
Looking at the equation we can see that the issue arises that from the equation, there is absolutely no
calculation which addresses the economic welfare of the people and thus, as an economic indicator
GDP excels, but as a welfare indicator, this could suggest that it may not be the best choice. Gross
national product of a specific country is the sum of the goods and services produced by citizens of a
country domestically and the output from external sources which are owned/part of the specific
country. The symbol used to represent gross national product is GNP and the equation for the GNP can
be simply written as:
GNP=GDP+Net property income from abroad
GNP and GDP per capita are the values for GDP and GNP divided by the population of the country.
They give an average value for the output of product per individual in the country. Before looking at
the cons of national income statistics, we must first note that there are redeeming points to using
national income. For one, national income does a very good job of representing growth in the
economy. However as we know economic growth is not necessarily always a positive thing.
The issue with wealth distribution is one of the many reasons why national income

How Do Heroes Contribute To Society

One thing that heroes bring to society, is giving hope during difficult times or events. First of all, there

support the needs of others. For example, Bill and Melinda Gates created a foundation with their own
money which has donated billions of dollars globally to support people and other organizations. Bill
and Melinda have pledged to give away the majority of their money and keep doing that out of
generosity. Lastly, heroes will sacrifice time and effort in the service of others. For example, anyone
who has volunteered at a food donation service like Feed My Starving Children. It takes both time and
effort to volunteer at a place like this, which is heroic. In conclusion, sacrifice for the sake of others is

Essay on Class, Socialization, and Politics
Elections are at the core of the American political system. They are the way we choose our
government, the source of government authority, and a means by which the people can influence
public policy. For most Americans, voting is the only form of political participation. Essential
questions to ask concerning these issues are: Who votes and why? What influences people to become
voters? And what influences how they vote? It is important to approach these issues from a
sociological standpoint addressing such matters as socialization and social stratification.

(Introduction to Sociology Pg. 222) Within this class system are three broad overlapping categories: a
working class, a middle class, and an upper class. People are placed within these categories based on
their occupation, income, and wealth. The working class receives the lowest income and fills blue
collar jobs in factories and farms, as well as white collar positions like clerical and secretarial jobs in
offices. The middle class consists of professionals like teachers, engineers, small business people, and
skilled workers. The upper class, often called the elite or ruling class is composed of those who run
our major economic and political institutions and receive the highest earnings for doing so. Class as
reflected in education, income, and occupation, does influence people s attitudes on a variety of issues.
People in the working class tend to be liberal in wanting greater economic equality and more
programs dealing with social welfare. This liberalism on economic issues contrasts strongly with their
ideas on civil liberties. Members of the middle class tend to be more conservative in their economic
views and more liberal on issues such as free speech and respect for civil rights. Therefore, class
attitudes on political questions are both liberal and conservative. The problem with figuring out how
these various characteristics that divide the population influences a person s political behavior is that

Cooking and baking is a central quality of this family s lifestyle. The narrative goes into great detail
and this has to do with a cultural placement. For Giovanni s family, cooking and eating is a set of
cultural rituals and the making of an experience. It is a part of a performance art, not just a
consumption product. Another central quality of this family s lifestyle is essentially work. Puma
writes: With Johnny s help, father and son would finish up by eleven instead of after midnight for the
father alone. The next morning Johnny would still be sleepy, and his mother would tickle his toes until
he climbed out of bed for breakfast with his sister and brother. By then his father would already be on
the subway headed again for the pastry shop Downtown (From the Margins 86).
This shows that Giovanni s life centers around work. Giovanni spends most of his time working about
six days a week. He is doing this in order to support his family. In another scene when Johnny is
making dough, he sees bugs in the flour, and Giovanni also accidentally knocks cigarette ashes into
the flour. Giovanni shrugs it off as if it is no big deal. Giovanni is exhausted and he is simply being
realistic and just wants to get work done. Puma shows Giovanni s hard lifestyle when he writes: The

  • 2. Martha Stewart Trial Case In 2001 public celebrity Martha Stewart sold stock in a large biotech company named ImClone. This act landed her in a large amount of trouble with the Federal Government and the SEC. She was held to trial and many things were told and discussed throughout the trial case. Through this research you will see several people s sides and statements they made during the jury trial and throughout the whole case. On December 29, 2001, just two days after Celebrity Martha Stewart sold her stock in ImClone, the companies stock dropped sixteen percent when the Food and Drug Administration told it had rejected the main drug Erbitux, for cancer treatment. (According to an article written by Julia Leite of the Columbia Journalism School) Martha, by selling right before the FDA s announcement, she avoided a loss of $45,673, a tiny fraction of her net worth, which the famous Forbes magazine estimated at $700 million just six months earlier. • 7. Political Parties And The Media s Influence On Politics Linkage institutions are a way of linking the American people to the government and political process, and often influence the policy agenda. A few examples of linkage institutions are political parties and the media. Within Christopher Nolan s Film Dunkirk and _______ s poem Evacuation of Dunkirk both authors explore the causality of war. Both texts are set in the same situation and both explore the different aspects of the evacuation of Dunkirk from two similar but different sources. • 14. Similes In George Elliott Clarke s The Wisdom Of Shelley The Wisdom Of Shelley by George Elliott Clarke is a beautifully written poem with a darker meaning. There are many interesting things hiding within the poem but there are a few specific ones I will mention. First, there are many different poetic devices used within this short poem. This includes imagery, similes, and repetition. Second, the symbol of this poem is the rose which is mentioned a few times throughout the poem. Third, the theme for The Wisdom Of Shelley is deception. Each of these points contributes to my understanding of the poem in its own way. There are many poetic devices used throughout The Wisdom Of Shelley . Repetition of words was the first thing that really jumped out at me. Clarke repeats the words words words words (4), and loved loved loved (15). What I believe this represents is how the character X only says empty words to what I presume is his family. If you need to repeat the word loved three times, then it starts to feel like you are only saying the words to make the other person happy. The first few lines of the poem say You come down, after / five winters, X, / bristlin with roses (1 3) and this can be taken as X has been gone for five years showing no signs of returning. He suddenly shows up with roses one day and expects all to be forgotten and forgiven. The presumed child does not want to forgive him and forget about what happened. The need for additional financing is a result of multiple factors that placed intense pressure on available cash. The extreme growth rate in sales was accompanied with heavy spending on research and development along with rapid expansion in the company s sales force and other marketing expenditures. Note that the industry s cash to sales ratio is not given directly but can be deducted by taking the Cash to Assets ratio of 16.3% (1985) and Assets to Sales ratio of 45.3% (Upper Quartile in 1985). Reshuffling these figures yields the industry s Cash to Sales of 7.4%. All these assumptions about net working capital result in tremendous need for external financing over the next several years as mentioned earlier. Annual Sales growth is expected to be at high rate 30% over the next 5 years, which puts tremendous pressure on cash. Poor management of working capital will unnecessarily tie up cash, thus requiring external financing from banks such as Western National Bank. Looking at cash to sales ratio, the historical trend for AMT is very much disturbing with the last two years having negative cash balances. This theory allowed film to be criticised and analysed in the same way as other creative platforms such as art and literature. The English Revolution from 1640 to 1660 Although the English Revolution began in 1640, there was discontent and conflict during the Stuart dynasty which lasted between 1603 and 1640. Between 1603 and 1625 King James I ruled England. He was unsuccessful in unifying Scotland and England, there was steep religious division between the Church of England, which was Anglo Catholic , and the Protestant Nonconformists, political division between the crown and parliament consistently disagreeing over the constitution, fiscal policy, taxation, religious policy, and foreign policy, and England s beginning colonization of North America and the Caribbean. In 1625, King James I dies and King Charles succeeds him. King Charles begins his reign with lack of money, religious disagreement and a European war, the Thirty Years War which King James I attempted to keep out of. From 1629 to 1640, King Charles I tries to rule without parliament and raises revenue outside of Parliament through his prerogative powers. Eventually, the implications of the new scientific findings began to affect the way people thought and behaved throughout Europe. Society began to question the authority of traditional knowledge about the universe. This in turn, allowed them to question traditional views of the state and social order. No longer was the world constructed as the somewhat simple Ptolemaic Model suggested. The Earth for the first time became explicable and was no longer the center of the universe. Copernicus realized that the church would be quick to judge him, and possibly this is why he didn t publish his theories until late in his life. His discoveries were not so much as important as were his methods of observation and application of mathematics to explain the world. His methods of discovery helped model the direction of science over the next hundred years. Another important figure in the Scientific Revolution was Galileo Galilei. He was an Italian born professor of mathematics who had a great interest in the workings of the universe. Galileo served as a professor at the University of Padua, and it was during this time that he began to question the accuracy of the Churches representation of the world. Galileo s approach towards knowledge was much different then the afore mentioned Copernicus. Where as Copernicus presented his finding to the mercy of the church, Galileo wrote his conclusions and left the Roman Catholic Church interpret them as they chose. The very nature of his findings pitted him as an opponent of the church. The Earth was not the center of the universe. Galileo had seen far into the heavens with the telescope he had designed and created an even more accurate mold of the universe. He trumpeted his views everywhere, and condemned anyone who ... People in the working class tend to be liberal in wanting greater economic equality and more programs dealing with social welfare. This liberalism on economic issues contrasts strongly with their ideas on civil liberties. Members of the middle class tend to be more conservative in their economic views and more liberal on issues such as free speech and respect for civil rights. For Giovanni s family, cooking and eating is a set of cultural rituals and the making of an experience. It is a part of a performance art, not just a consumption product. Another central quality of this family s lifestyle is essentially work. Puma writes: With Johnny s help, father and son would finish up by eleven instead of after midnight for the father alone. The next morning Johnny would still be sleepy, and his mother would tickle his toes until he climbed out of bed for breakfast with his sister and brother. By then his father would already be on the subway headed again for the pastry shop Downtown (From the Margins 86). This shows that Giovanni s life centers around work. Giovanni spends most of his time working about six days a week. He is doing this in order to support his family. In another scene when Johnny is making dough, he sees bugs in the flour, and Giovanni also accidentally knocks cigarette ashes into the flour. Giovanni shrugs it off as if it is no big deal. Giovanni is exhausted and he is simply being realistic and just wants to get work done.
