Persuasive Essay For The Holiday World
Holiday World is advertised to be number one for family fun. There are many choices for what
you could do with your day. Whether you like amusement parks or not, there s multiple things to
keep you occupied at Holiday World; Water parks are the best way to consume your day while
you re playing in the sun. Splashin Safari is the best part about Holiday World. Not only do you
get to swim, but you get to ride roller coasters while getting soaked and having an amusing time.
The food variety is incredible. If you are in the mood for relaxing, swim, rides, or big waves,
Splashin Safari s name is written all over it. The rides vary from tummy turners to toddler
hilarity. If you need drinks or sunscreen, don t bother packing it! Splashin Safari has stations for
it. It is also FREE! Entertainment is a huge priority in the water park and I am not just talking
about the rides. If you forgot an extra shirt, don t worry. Splashin Safari has your back. If you
forgot sunglasses, don t stress. Splashin Safari Shops have all the merchandise you could think
of, from sea shells to flip flops. The best restaurants in Holiday World are located in Splashin
Safari, in my opinion. They have Wildebeestro, Bahari Snacks, Jungle Jake s ZOOMbabwe Grill,
Safari Pizza, Safari Ice Cream, and Chill Factory. The wait time for all of these restaurants vary on
how many people are visiting that day, what the time is, and what the weather is for that day.

Stars Always Shining Summary
As one reaches adulthood, one reaches a level of sense of self identity and understanding of their
status in society that one will come into agreement with. In Stars Always Shining, the author Rick
Rivera explores the idea of belonging in society through the use of the characters and the influences
of the environment. The main character, Placido along with his assisting characters, Michelle and
Salvador, struggle with finding their place amongst society along with their relationships amongst
each other and their bosses, Jacqueline and Mickey. In the beginning, we are shown how
confrontational Mitchell, or Mitch, and Jacqueline are as they first get to know each other.
Although Mitch tries to impress the owners with her vast knowledge she comes off as knowing
more than the owners.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Pg 182) We can see the first revelation this interview yielded was that Jacqueline did not like
Michelle s confidence. (Pg 195) Nevertheless, Mitch and Placido, or Place, being mere
employees seeking for work, are needed to be reminded by Jacqueline and Mickey constantly
throughout the story, that they, being the owners of the ranch and the ones investing into
StarRidge Ranch, are the ultimate decision makers. As we move along in the plot, we verge on
the realizations of the internal struggles many of the characters are dealing with to figure out
where they belong in their relationships and with society around them. Mitch attempts to leave
the world of law, she first believed she wanted, but struggles to get back to the world she grew
up with, caring for the animals and the earth. Place comes to realize that he doesn t know if he
fits in society as a Chicano American or a Mexican. He grew up a field worker with his family,
but lost that part of his life and culture as he grew up and studied in college. He isn t able to
express himself freely as an American to Jacqueline and Mickey but also has troubles
understanding much of what Salvador has to say about the Mexican life and

Digital Technologies In Legal Services Essay
Discuss the increasing adoption of digital technologies in the provision of legal services with
specific emphasis: a)Any Ethical responsibility for lawyers to ensure competence in their use;
and b)Issues of client confidentiality arising out of their use Technology has been changing the
way we live our lives in pretty much every way imaginable. The common belief in the past was
that only manual work would be greatly affected by the rise of technology. However, service
professions such as the legal profession, has certainly seen a change as well. There are
discussions what this will mean in the future and whether it will go beyond the current role,
which is acting more as an aid to lawyers. If that is so it could potentially change the current legal
framework and question the role of lawyers themselves. There are also issues relating more to the
protection of clients through data protection, confidentiality and accountability to look out for.
This essay will focus on three main points. Firstly, discuss the overall impact of technology on the
legal professions, while discussing the perceived threat of this. Secondly, exploring the lawyer s
responsibility to offer quality and proper service and relating to accountability of these new
technology aids. Lastly, it will discuss issues relating to confidentiality and the overall role of the
lawyer to ensure this while balancing out the cost reducing and more efficient technologies.
Technology has already had a major impact on

Strengths And Weaknesses Of The Black Scholes Model
Introduction.
The essay will examine the strengths and weaknesses of the Black Scholes model by first briefly
understanding its birth in an effort to look to the intention on which the model is created to fulfil.
This will then form the basis on which it will be assessed upon.
Then the essay will examine the model s growth of usage, describe how the model functions and
what it is used for, essentially outlining the model s strength. In so doing, the author will strive to
highlight the benefits and changes the model brought into the financial markets and the people who
uses it.
When evaluating the model s sustainability, the essay outlines the model s limits and applications
under certain conditions. Here, the author highlights the weaknesses of the model, both, within the
model itself as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, outside these conditions, and as in the cases where the volatility estimation is imprecise,
the model would obtain a price that may differ from its observed value.
Hence, the model merely deals with the pricing of the option but it is the trader that then has to
determine its value.
Conclusion
The Black Scholes model can be used extremely well in the manner in which it was set out to do. It
is still used for many other variations. With newer and faster technologies, better algorithms and
cheaper transaction costs, the model may perform even better in its current deficiencies in high
volume calculations.
As with any mechanical tool, one has to remember that the model has no preferences and merely
calculates the data it is presented with. The user of the model would still have to evaluate that
figure alongside market conditions. The financial markets are made up of the human valuation of
the assets and humans deal with more than just numbers.
In the final analysis, the Black Scholes model is a tool that must be used to compliment the party

The Green Berets Analysis
Green Berets came to the defense of the film. One lieutenant colonel commented that when
Hollywood s doing it, you have to expect dramatization some exaggeration. But I thought it was a
real fine film. Another officer enthusiastically said, I think it caught the essence, And according to
a Green Beret sergeant major, the film, was just God, Mother, and Flag. Now who the hell could
have any opposition to that? It was a good, low key, accurate picture...The accuracy was there and
the photography was real great. However, General Edwin Simmons, who fought in Vietnamand
commanded a Special Forces unit, found the film so bad that it almost made him sick. Wayne s

I had a black slave in The Alamo, and I had a correct number of blacks in The Green Berets. He
said he was guided by clear criteria: If it s supposed to be a black character, naturally I use a
black actor. But I don t go so far as hunting for positions for them. However, one black character
in The Green Berets is not the correct number that was actually represented in Vietnam, because
the number of African American soldiers who served in combat far exceeded their percentage of
the population. Thus, Wayne did not accurately portray the racial demographic of the military at
the time. Roger Ebert vouched, The Green Berets simply will not do as a film about the war in
Vietnam. It is offensive not only to those who opposed American policy but even to those who
support it. However, though the film had mixed reviews, and unfavorable critical reception, the
film did well at the box office in 1968 and continued to do steady and profitable business in

Biodiversity And Its Impact On Biodiversity
Biodiversity is what makes the planet earth unique and different from every other planet in the
solar system. Biodiversity can be studied on a global level all the way down to studying it within
a microscopic ecosystem (National Wildlife Federation, 2015). It is important to understand that
biodiversity can be looked at genetically as well as environmentally as well. For example, genetic
biodiversityis seen in the variation of different breeds within the dog species, while environmental
biodiversity is the diversity of ecosystems and habitats (National Wildlife Federation, 2015).
Preserving biodiversity is perhaps the most important task that humans have to complete while
living on this planet. The ecosystems that make up all of the regions worldwide are immensely
complex, so conservation may be difficult at times. Additionally, many factors influence the species
that inhabit ecosystems, and these factors may complicate the preservation of biodiversity.
Moreover, there is a plethora of threats to biodiversity, both natural and manmade that are
destroying ecosystems on a daily basis. Out of these threats, the human influences are particularly
severe and must be taken care of at all costs. Biodiversity provides countless benefits for every
ecosystemand creature, which is what makes it worthy of conservation. Through the introduction
and relocation of species, some degree of restoration may be possible in the future. Biodiversity is
an amazing natural process that makes life

Divorce And Negative Affectivity
Over the past few decades, divorce has risen dramatically and has impacted many individuals,
including adolescents. Adolescence is a time of change and the addition of divorce in the family
complicates this development, especially in terms of mental health. (N. Civitci, A. Civitci N.C.
Fiyakali, 2009) Following parental divorce, adolescents tend to suffer because of the poor coping
strategies they implement, influencing increased negative affectivity. (Consoli et al., 2013)
Negative affectivity may be defined as emotional distress or a tendency to experience negative
emotions. The purpose of this paper is to examine research surrounding the effects of divorce on
adolescents negative affectivity. Inquiries illustrate a positive correlation between divorce and
negative affectivity, however this association is dependent on familial relationships. (YГЎrnoz
Yaben Garmendia, 2016) Unfortunately, though, the research is limited in in terms of the methods
used to gather data and establish the connection. Civitci, N., Civitci, A., Fiyakali, N.C. (2009).

The Justification Of The Nsa Unlawful Spying Activities
The justifications provided for the leakage of the NSA unlawful spying activities also support the
argument that Snowman s act was permissible. For instance, Snowden justifies his act by stating
that he relied on the U.S Constitution, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as well as the
1945 Nuremberg declaration. He provides his explanation for his shift from the his earlier held
philosophy of nationalism by noting that people have an international duty that surpasses their
national obligations of loyalty, (Scheuerman, 2014). He further expounds that sometimes national
loyalty leads to national relativism whereby people overlook their country s evils, instead
preferring to focus on distant and external evils.
Generally, intelligence systems are extensively concealed, which exposes them to potential abuse
by those in charge. This results in abuse of human rights such as privacy rights that is detrimental to
the very security that such systems ought to safeguard. As such, blowing the whistle on such
activities can be an effective mechanism of exposing the ills that characterize intelligence systems.
Furthermore, Scheurman (2014) argues that a requirement for whistleblower identity disclosure as
proposed in Sagar s framework enhances their opportunity to fulfill their obligations to justify their
actions. They further state that whistleblower identity disclosure demonstrates civic mindedness. In
addition, the disclosure of the whistle blower s identity helps to prevent

that the Internet has made it less requesting to make sense of fundamental facts, for instance, the

The Wisconsin Fast Plant, otherwise known as the Brassica Rapa, is a petite plant and
researching tool bred by Dr. Paul Williams and used to improve disease resistance of the
cruciferous plants. Dr. Williams was able to breed the Fast Plant with other related species of
the Cruciferae family, in order to achieve shorter life cycles. Fast Plant life cycles have been
reduced from the average six month cycle to a five week cycle (History of Wisconsin Fast Plants).
These plants have been known to show exponential growth results within the first two weeks. Fast
Plants are also known to share familial ties with other groups of plants such as mustard, cabbage,

Private Pensions Essay
For most Americans, retirement has become a lifelong goal. To retire comfortably, you need
income, and this income can come from one of three sources: savings, Social Security, or a
company pension plan. The unfortunate fact is that Americans save very little money nowadays,
and for anyone under forty, Social Security is a very hollow promise. For most, private pensions are
the key to a comfortable retirement. When it comes to private pensions, however, most companies
and employees themselves don t contribute enough money, meaning that future retirees will have to
work longer if they want to maintain their pre retirement standard of liv¬ing into retirement.
There are two types of private pensions in America: the defined benefit pension... Show more

Additionally, the costs of the pensions were also supported by the federal government in the
form of company tax deductions for whatever money was set aside for a workers pension plan.
Over time, these pension plans for industrial workers became very generous. Everything seemed
promising, until foreign competitors with no such pension obligations began to emerge. Many of
these foreign companies paid lower wages, but even worse, had products that were just as good as
and sometimes better than American manufactured products. When the once strong labor
monopoly began to crumble, pensions became a massive and unsustainable cost to most
companies, many of which were trying to stay afloat in an extremely competitive global market.
Many employees thought that their retirement was secure and agreed to lower wages with the
promise of a generous pension plan. Sadly, companies began to trim the fat away in order to
survive, and many American s pensions were on the chopping block. There just wasn t enough
money in the funds to support them anymore. Millions of Americans were faced with the harsh
reality that jobs don t last forever and economic security is not guaranteed. Many people thought
that they had good unions, good pensions, and good healthcare. That isn t the case today. Slowly, it
all began to erode away at such a gradual pace that most didn t even notice until it was too late for

Lizzie Borden On a hot morning on august 4, 1892, Mr. Andrew Borden and his wife, Abby

acquitted of the crime. She was a woman of spotless character and reputation, and more than that
she was educated, refined and prominently connected with the work of the Christian church in the
Fall River (Gates 2).The town and the country were divided in their opinions of who could commit
such horrifying murders. Many theories have been made to explain that day; the finger has been

had been murdered she volunteered to send her handyman to find a doctor, and to help. The
police station, about 400 yards away, received the message at 11:15. By 11:45 the police and Dr.

During all the confusion, while the handyman went for help, Mrs. Borden was completely

Lizzie recalled hearing her return and asked the maid to go upstairs to look for her. The maid

Mrs. Borden was found with her head crushed in. there was a hole about 1.5 X 5.5 inches along
with a scalp wound where the flesh was cut off but not separated from the head. The wound was 2
inches long by 1.5 inches wide. On the left side there were four wounds. Three of them went into
the skull, one taking apiece right out of the skull. Many of the wounds crushed through to the brain.
Altogether she received 18 blows to the head (Porter 19).

Catastrophe Theory Essay
Three theories of stress, arousal and anxiety that are all linked with a common theme are Individual
Zone of Optimal Functioning, Inverted U theory, and Catastrophe theory. These three are linked by
the theme of function of behaviour equals person times situation. These theories can help to explain
arousal and anxietylevels of athletes in specific situations and the outcome of their performance,
whether they succeed or fail. This essay will focus on the person times situation theme and how
athletes need to find the correct balance of arousal and anxiety so they can perform at their best in

This means that the pitcher comes into a game in a high pressure situation, where arousal and
anxiety levels will be high. This article consists of tips from the greatest closer of all time in
Mariano Rivera. The article places emphasis on managing emotions, learning from a loss and
narrowing focus (Cohn, 2014). Managing the emotions is applicable to the theories because the
pitcher will need to stay in the optimal level of functioning, if considering Hanin s (1980, 1986,
1997) theory, or at the midpoint for the Inverted U theory and not becoming over aroused to avoid
catastrophe. It is important to overcome the negative thoughts and the wordy that is associated with
pressure. With this role in the team, there is a strong likelihood of high cognitive anxiety and if
that becomes too much then the athlete will have a serious decline in their performance and lead
to a poor performance and probably a loss/failure. This could lead to the pitcher going into a
performance slump and have continued poor performances, because of the high levels of cognitive
anxiety and worry. This could continue until the athlete can reach the level of optimal functioning
again.
Recovering from a loss closely links to the catastrophe theory as well. If a pitcher has a poor
performance and the worry continues into the next performance, then the pitcher will be
unsuccessful and will worry about their ability to get the job done, which is a result of high
cognitive anxiety. A fast recovery from the loss (catastrophe) is crucial for closing

Shutter Island, by Dennis Lehane and The Yellow...
Gothic tales are known for being mysterious and gloomy. Certain elements are integrated
throughout the narrative to create the desired effect, and simultaneously suggest other ideas.
Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane and The Yellow Wall Paper by Charlotte Perkins Stetson are
significantly similar, by the way both settings highlight the idea of madness. The relationship
between setting and madness is induced by the display of physical isolation, disturbing elements,
and hallucinatory incidents. To begin, with intent of initiating mystery in gothic stories, the locale
is often portrayed as being physically isolated, triggering insanity in the characters. This idea can be

Also, as the patients in Shutter Island are cut off from society and merely exposed to criminally
insane people, it is hard for them to come back to a state of sanity. Briefly, physical isolation of
the locale in gothic literature finds its way into establishing madness, nevertheless, additional
disturbing elements impact on insanity as well. Just in the same way as isolation affects the
mental state of characters, disturbing elements in their surroundings can lead to this outcome in
the narrative. In Stetson s short story, the description of the room indicates that the windows are

off in great patches all around the head of [her] bed, about as far as [she] can reach, and in a

the environment is for Charlotte as she expresses antipathy, especially about the wallpaper by
pointing out that [she] never saw a worse paper in [her] life (251). In contrast, Lehane depicts
guards using a powerful hose to calm the agitated patients: the guards [got] the hose working and
fired a blast, blew the guy off the bars, pushed him across the floor (231). The hose is used as a
tool to tranquilize critical situations in Shutter Island, however, as some men [...] moaned, moans

Essay On Fiber Communication System
There are certain inherent flaws with the optical transmission system like inter symbol interference
and noise. This distortion is introduced by the narrow bandwidth and some distortions due to the
media through the optical signals travel. The linear transversal filter is used to reduce symbol
interference. The system designed to remove unknown distortion is called an adaptive equalizer.
The corrective measure is to identify the distortion and adjust accordingly with the objective to

Motivation Theory, And Theory Y

Motivation Paper
Motivation acts a force to energize and direct behavior in the workplace (Myers 329) so that
employees perform tasks to a high degree. It is motivation that retains employees in a company
because improper motivation acts as a deterrent to productivity and joy. Whether physiological,
emotional, or incentive based, motivation affects our lives everyday and induces our natural drive
to thrive and succeed. Many psychological theories explain the different ways employees may
become motivated, such as Maslow s hierarchy of needs, Herzberg s two factor theory, and theory
Y, based on how appealing a stimuli may be to an employee s needs.
A successful company only exists if its employees are properly motivated. However, finding the
right types of motivation proves to be difficult considering the variety of employees within the
company. While one employee may appreciate vacation time, another may feel he is not properly
motivated to do more for the company. One employee may crave recognition, while another finds
solace in completing their work without any applause. Also, in terms of incentives, it would be hard
to distinguish employees who work intrinsically to perform quality work from those who work
extrinsically for the reward. Too much of a stimuli leads to habituation and employees may
ultimately become demotivated (Myers 340). Without motivation, however, employees

Philosophy of Ethics Essay
The word ethics comes from Greek ethikas meaning character. Today, we use ethics to describe the
normative standard of behavior. The history of philosophical ethics has been broken up into five
rational methods: Virtue, Traditional, Modern, and Post Modern Ethics. Within these periods, the
philosophy of ethics changed along with the changes being made within society. The first rational
method is Virtue Ethics. The major philosophers during this period were materialists such as Plato,
Aristotle, Epicurus, and Plutarch. Greek were concerned with finding eudaimonia meaning the

Aristotle and Plato, developed his idea on ethics and how everyone has a duty and should imitate
virtue for others. He said duty has two points which are to achieve the Supreme Good, and follow
the rules for daily living. Cicero was a strong believer in rationality incorporated Plato s Cardinal
Virtues into his three rules of conduct: master desires through reason, know true value of goals and
be moderate in actions and lifestyle. Following Virtue Ethics, a major shift occurred in thinking.
The philosophers of Virtue Ethics were materialists and believed we only have what we have and
after death, we have nothing. Traditional Ethics shifted the focus on religion once it began to
spread. Also known as Biblical Ethics, philosophers started a systematic study of Biblical themes
and principles surrounding ethics and morality. St. Augustine was trained as a philosopher and
combines his understanding of the Bible to ethics by answering the same question as Plato and
Aristotle did, What is the highest good? He answered this question with happiness just like Aristotle

Poetry Analysis Of We Real Cool By Gwendolyn Brooks
Poetry Analysis of We Real Cool By Gwendolyn Brooks
We Real Cool, by Gwendolyn Brooks is a fervent short poem that tells a story of teenage rebellion.
This poem is a formal verse ballad which uses simple sentences that create a steady meter giving the
poem a catchy jazz like quality. Although the poem is short, it packs a powerful message about
youth. Gwendolyn Brooks centered her works predominately around the African American
consciousness. During the 1960 s when the poem was written, many teens especially young
African American men felt misunderstood and like the world was set up for them to fail. On
the surface, it appears this poem is a mere description of young adults that are misjudged. The
deeper message of this poem addresses the dangers of peer pressure, and its detrimental effects
to self identity because of the disconnect between society and youth of that time. Peer pressure
can take place whenever people gather together and spend frequent time together. Most people
are subject to its effects and often experience it because, of shared experiences or they share the
same perspective on life. This becomes dangerous when a group has enough influence to dictate
an individual s way of thinking or behavior. When an individual is desperate to find a place to
belong, they will follow the crowd even if they know that they are participating in something
immoral; this is demonstrated in We Real Cool. In the opening lines of the poem, the reader

Essay on Suicide in A Perfect Day for Bananafish by J. D....
A Perfect Day for Bananafish follows the events leading up to the eventual suicide of Seymour
Glass. In the story, Seymour is described as a lost spirit who sees himself as being fundamentally
different from his social environment following his wartime experience; he leaves the war seeing
more and as a result, awakens to find that he has lost touch with the material world. Salinger uses
the story s dialog as the medium for conveying Seymour s struggle; he establishes the shallow
nature of the environment Seymour is exposed to using the dialog between Muriel and her Mother

The opening conversation continues to impress the shallowness of Muriel s character upon the
reader. The conversation between Muriel and her mother focuses on the serious subject of Seymour
s potential mental instability, but their attitude towards their topic is softened, almost to the point
of indifference, by other superfluous subject matter. Muriel s mother sounds concerned when she
warns Muriel that Seymour may completely lose control of himself. This is paired with the
mention of Seymour s war experience and a doctor s opinion of his release being premature.
However, these disturbing facts are contrasted by the tangent where Muriel s mother asks, How are
the clothes this year? Salinger uses the contrasting topics of their conversation to destroy the
credibility of their judgments. Muriel s conclusion to her mother s warnings, Mother, I m not afraid
of Seymour, further diffuses their forbidding effect. The dialog is heavy with references to
Seymour and the attitude taken by both Muriel and her mother suggest that he does not correspond
to their ideas of normal. During their conversation, Muriel s mother brings up Seymour s habit of
sunbathing while wearing his bathrobe, which she finds unusual; Muriel s mother asks Muriel if

Is Bataille s Philosophy Something We Could Realistically...
Is Bataille s philosophy something we could realistically live by? Critically discuss with reference
to the concepts of unproductive expenditure and transgression.
Bataille argues that in modern capitalist society, we are measured by our utility and production
within this system. Material utility is restricted to production and to conserving goods whilst
limited to reproduction and to the preservation of human life. As a result, we work within this
framework where values, rules and laws have been created for us to work within, which, Bataille
argues, restricts our liberty. Though utility is an apparent positive principle of capitalism, Bataille
sees this as a principle of powerlessness and an incapability of being able to expend (Botting and
Wilson, 1997, 192). He uses the example of a boy who wants to waste and destroy but cannot do
this because he cannot justify it in utilitarian terms and is unaware that others also have this
interest. The father of the boy is partly responsible for repressing the boy s desire to waste and
destroy through things he provides for him: a home, clothes food and partial recreation. This does
not actually satisfy what the son s desires are as there is something fundamental within the
character of the son. Bataille is trying to demonstrate how in society, the father is like production,
which provides us with the basic components of living but not what we really need and how this
excess desire the boy has, needs to be satisfied. Rules and

College Debt and Student Completion and Attendance In mid 2010 higher education debt surpassed
credit card debt at $830 billon dollars(Clemmitt 877 900). Debt has become an increasing problem
for students who want to attend college. As more students try to further their education, tuition rises
and so does the amount of loans taken out each year. According to Belkin, Students attending
public four year institutions this academic year are paying an average of $12,620, up $220 from

debt or if they should get a job somewhere that allows them to live a comfortable life debt free.
Two thirds of college graduates have to take out loans in order to get through college(Dwyer,

believe that it depends on the student and their situation if college debt limits who attends and
completes college because it depends on their financial stability, it depends on if they are

back their loans, however, many people would disagree with me and say that yes, college

Essay on OZONE DEPLETION BY HUMAN’S ACTIONS
OZONE DEPLETION BY HUMAN S ACTIONS
The ozone layer is a very important component in the atmosphere. Ozone is not the same as the
oxygen humans breathe. There is very little of this gas in the atmosphere. First off, let s begin
with a definition of the ozone layer. Ozone is a hot, slightly bluish gas. It is a molecule made up of
three oxygen atoms, which are very similar to the molecule we are familiar with (O2), the molecule
needed for human respiration. Despite the major smog problem, about 90 percent of Earth s ozone
are actually in the stratosphere, a layer of the atmosphere far above the Earth s surface. It lies

If ozone did not act to filter a great deal of the ultra violet radiation and if the rays were allowed to
reach the surface of the Earth, then our planet would be uninhabitable for life (Lutgens3). Ozone
depletion and over exposure to enhanced UV B radiation can lead to deadly melanoma skin
cancer, increased eye cataracts, and damages to the near surface oceanic phytoplankton, which is
the basis of the food chain. The natural depletion of the stratospheric ozone chemistry cycle has
been severely interrupted by ozone depletion associated with the decay of chlorofluorocarbons (
Links 4). These are contained in a wide range of products, including aerosol sprays and refrigerants
and insulating foam packaging.
Ozone concentrations are measured by a Dobson spectrophotometer and satellite based
instruments and results from these measurements show a decrease in stratospheric ozone levels of
about 1 percent per year since 1979. Studies show that every 1 percent decrease in ozone should
produce a 2 percent increase in UV B radiation, and a 4 percent increase in skin cancer
(Thompson5).
Recently in the Arctic, the presence of significant CIO in the stratosphere has been established
(Thompson 6). This shows the process of ozone destruction in the Arctic. In this case, the ozone
level in the Arctic also decreases. The frequency of this is not known. There may be a relationship

What Is The Theme Of The Morgue Scene
In ThГ©rГЁse Raquin, Г‰mile Zola uses specific scenes in order to convey and communicate
explicit concepts from which the reader can extrapolate key themes in the novel, and the Morgue
scene of Chapter XIII is an excellent example of this. Such scenes also offer a comprehensive
depiction of the times and the Morgue scene gives us a slice of Parisian life during the 19th
century. Across the span of this chapter, Zola s unflinching depiction of the morgue, the bodies
lying on the slabs, and most importantly, his meticulous illustration of those who visit the morgue
for titillation or other reasons, impose profound connotations of Parisian society in that period.

Zola regarded Manet as one of the masters of the future and defended him against harsh critics, as
he strongly believed in the way Manet expressed himself in his paintings. Manet s Olympia , in

painting. However, Manet s talent motivated Zola to include crude sexuality and painterly
technique in his writing. In truth, the theme of sexuality permeates the entire novel, even in the

the gangs of kids come in stopping only by women s bodies to stare impudently at the naked

the reader, signifying an objectification of women during that time as this piece of writing can be

Lord Of The Flies Fire Symbolism Essay
Don t play with fire. Fire is unpredictable, uncontainable, and its results are everlasting.
Nonetheless, fireplaces, campfires, and birthday candles, rouse the fascination of children and
adults because it is the universal symbol of spirit. Unlike conventional symbols, fire has an
intrinsic relationship with the spirit it represents. A fire radiates heat and light to create an
impression of power and liveliness. The vivacious flames are always dancing in different patterns,
but maintain a degree of constancy. In the Lord of the Flies, fire is a prominent symbolof Ralph s
hopeful spirit throughout the series of events on the island. Fire s recurringappearances throughout
the novels demonstrates that there is always hopein all situations... Show more content on

This shows that Ralph s hopes may not be as high, but the fire along with hope still exists.
Savagery is a threat to hope, but does not cause hope to die out. Despite fire s recurring presence,
the fire burns out when the hunters desert their duty to tend the fire and hunt a pig instead.
When Ralph discovers that Jack and his hunters neglect the fire, Jack provides a feeble excuse.
[Ralph to Jack] You let the fire go out. [...] [Jack insists] You should have seen the blood!
(Golding 70) When the hunters choose to hunt instead of tending the fire, it represents a descent
from the original orderly civilization into savagery. In this scene, Golding hints that savagery
threatens Ralph s hopeful mindset for a civilized tribe, but savagery does not kill hope. By the
end of the book, all of the boys become hunters who are regarded as savages , murder Ralph s
faithful comrade Piggy, and steal the spectacles along with the fire; Ralph seems to be at rock
bottom. Ralph has no one to turn to, nowhere to stay, and no plan for the future as he scrambles to
escape a hunt, all the while, unable to see hope in his situation. The narrator speaks, The best thing
to do was to ignore this laden feeling about the heart, [...] no fire; no smoke; no rescue, (Golding).
Unfortunately for Ralph, the hunt escalates when Jack s savage forest fire consumes the

Fire Prevetion Research Paper
Fire Prevetion Essay Firefighters have been seting small parts of forests on fire that they can
controll in order to reduce the risk of bigger fires in the future. THis seems resonable, it causes a
little harm however if they do this it can stop more harm from happening. There are some down
sides but the prize outways the price. This is a good thing to do. In order to reduce the risk of
wildfires it is appropeat to burn certain parts of a forest in order to remove some of the flamable
materials that can start an out of controll wildfire. Prescribed fires has many advantages including :
Reduces hazardous fuels, protecting human communities from extreme fires;

Gender Stereotypes In Australia
It can be argued that it is the students and academic teaching staff themselves who are forcing
females into female type jobs and males into male type jobs . Connell et al. (2013) discuss gender
cannot be argued against as being irrelevant to educational outcomes and student performance. A
significant factor in Australia in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries was the expansion of
education on a massive scale, with the result being a school conceiving social class (Connell et al.
2013, p.106).
Kimball (1995) relates working concepts of meritocracy are closely linked to science. Science is
believed to be true and objective, a more meritorious type of knowledge that has accurate ideas,
methodologies and people. Science automatically assumes that it is elevated above other forms of
knowledge, becoming apparent in scientists one way method of communication, with an attitude
that there is nothing to be gained by communicating with a non scientific person (Kimball, 1995,
p.141).

There is empirical evidence to show that males do not like females to be clever in areas considered
male. They think there is something strange about females who want to be scientists. (Fensham
2005. p.224). Keller (2002) postulates that maintaining gender differences may not be primarily due
to teacher interactions but due to the behaviour of the schoolchildren themselves. This then
reinforces the argument students themselves are forcing themselves into gender roles. Tobin (cited
in Kahle 2005) states there is hidden invisibility of masculinity and dominance in science, in the
masculine verbal bravado present and evident in science classrooms. By contrast, females lack

Explain Why The Cotton Gin Was Invented By Eli Whitney
The cotton gin was invented in 1794 by Eli Whitney directly following the creation of the new
nation, yet prior to its westward expansion. This invention caused cotton to quickly become the
most profitable cash crop, which caused it become widely spread among agricultural lands across
the country. This westward expansion of cotton fields and gins placed a gigantic burden on
enslaved blacks who were being forced to harvest cotton and operate the gins as property .
Cotton, and even more so slavery, had become such a vital resource to the country s economy, that
they overall success of the economy was directly connected to the agricultural success of cotton
and the cotton gin in the South. Textile centers, like Lowell, were expanding rapidly, leading to
improved life for many textile workers, and slaves having the opposite outcome. This growth in the
American economy during the 1830 s 40 s was known as King Cotton . While it is believed that this
occurred only deep within the South, that was not entirely the case. Cotton was one of the first
luxury commodities in the world, after sugar and tobacco, and was also the one which had its
production dramatically turned millions of human beings themselves into commodities. ... Show

Cotton became one of, if not the most, profitable crop to grow. Along with the cotton gin s
invention, mass production became easily accessible, however it required immense labor to
achieve it, which of course, was completed by slave labor. This connection is likely the very
reason that slavery became such a prominent issue. Before the creation of the cotton gin, rice and
tobacco were the staple crops of the region. Many believe that if not for the rapid expansion of the
cotton industry, the need for slave labor would have never grown to the level it did, and, at the very
least, conflict between the North and South may have never

Reflection On Clinical Surgery
On October 16th, 2017, I was able to observe a surgery during my clinical session. Surgery is
defined as the art and science of treating diseases, injuries and deformities by operation and
instrumentation. (Lewis, 2017) The reason for surgery can include: diagnosis, or determining the
presence and extent of a pathologic condition, cure, or eliminating and/or repairing of a pathologic
condition, palliation, or alleviation of symptoms that does not cure, prevention, or removing
something from the body before it becomes cancer, and exploration, surgical examination to
determine the nature or extent of a disease. (Lewis, 2017) My observation day started in the
preoperative unit of the hospitalwhere I met with the pre op nurse. During this time I was able to
introduce myself to the patient and had her consent to allow me observe her surgery. My patient was
a 39Y female who was to undergo a robotic assist hysterectomy. Her past medical history includes
constant, abnormal vaginal bleeding, polyps and severe cramping. These are the factors that
contributed to her having the hysterectomy. My patient also noted that this is the last resort in her
treatment for her symptoms. In this case, my patient was undergoing palliative surgery, or having
surgery to alleviate symptoms without curing a specific disease. Her past medical history also
includes gastroesophageal reflux disease, bilateral chondromalacia patella joint pain, and depressive
disorder. These factors

Dei And Colonia Dignidad
As a layman, sects and cults may not seem all that different. Both are marginal groups and do not
conform to society s typical views of religion. Their classification as new religious movements
then are based solely on their staying on the outskirts of the norm . Two groups that I will be
focusing on specifically are Opus Dei and the Colonia Dignidad. Both are seen as extreme and
strict, and I believe they belong to the same group as one another. Opus Dei seeks to return to the
roots of Catholicism and is unhappy with the way the Catholic Church embraces society. Colonia
Dignidad is unhappy with society, too, although they chose to form a new way of life that followed
a few parts of the fundamental goals of their former church. Both... Show more content on

This sect removed itself from society both literally and figuratively by moving from their

did not support/join their way of life. By secluding themselves in this way they are perfectly
exemplifying the alienation theory that we have talked about. They gave up all former bonds with
the outside world and devoted themselves to life inside the sect and living their lives by their

The And Its Effects On The Environment
Their location impacts many things about their culture as they are surviving based on their
environment. For food, this tribe relies heavily on hunting and edible plants that grow naturally in
the Amazon Rainforest in addition to their personal garden. Due to Chagnon reporting that the
Yanamomi are incredibly violent many believed that they were savage hunters. However, only
about 15 20% of their food is meat, the rest comes from their personal gardens which are mainly
cared for by the women in the tribe. As hunting is mostly done by the men and is not as stable of a
food source as agriculture, the Yanomamo are almost entirely egalitarian. While that might not
seem intuitive in many indigenous tribes, the groups responsible for keeping... Show more content

The ability to fight other tribes and endure pain is critical to ensuring they are not raided and
wiped out but other tribes. For this reason, club fighting takes up a very large portion of their
leisure time. Children engage in horseplay that can get fairly violent and can cause injuries. This
will prepare those children, both male, and female, for a life where they will endure painful
insect bites, possible food shortages, and intense fighting. Therefore, the play they engage in,
from childhood to adulthood will be centered around ensuring their ability to handle the physical
duress they will be placed under. This is critical to the survival of the tribe as a whole because if
the adults in the tribe could not handle physical duress, it is likely that they would be ill prepared
for the lifestyle of the Yanomami.
Play can be used as a training tool for the future as seen by the horseplay, or it can simply be used
as a method to unwind. The most common way for the Yanomami to unwind is through the use of
hallucinogenic drugs. This drug is called ebene and it is extracted from plants in the forest, ground
into powder and then mixed with saliva. The drugs are snorted in a ritualistic manner. The men
body paint themselves with red pigment and adorn themselves with feathers before gathering in
front of a host s house. The men then take turns blowing the ebene into the nostrils of the

A Report On Finance Co
1.Attachment
a.Finance Co. has a security interest in the bikes
A security interest attaches when (1) there is an agreement, (2) Debtor grants a security interest
in movable property,(2) debtor had the rights in the property, (3) value is given and (4) there is
an authenticated security agreement that describes the collateral . (1) Here, financing had agreed
to grant working capitol to Mikes Bikes. (2) Mike s Bikes as owner of the bikes has rights in the
property. (3) Finance gave value when they granted Mikes Bikes $250,000 in working capitol. (4)
The agreement Finance sent to Mike s Bikes qualifies as a security agreement. This because it
grants a security interest in the bikes. It adequately describes the bikes as inventory. Even though
the fact pattern refers to it as personal property it is not because the property is held in the trade of
business. The bikes are inventory because they are held by the debtor for sale to consumers. The
security agreement is authenticated by the electronic signature of the debtor in the reply email. This
is because multiple documents that are attached to each other can qualify as a security agreement.
Finance s security interest would still attach to the bikes acquired after March 1, 2015 even though
there security agreement did not contain the terms or henceforth acquired. This is because it is
assumed that a secured party would understand that inventory would be sold and replenished and
would therefore, take a security

The Acquisition Of Child Language
Introduction
The acquisition of child language has become a heated debate in which many discuss how and
when a child is able to learn both their first and even their second language. The critical period
hypothesis is a theory which claims that after a certain age children will no longer be able to
achieve a native level of fluency in any given language. This essay aims to dissect the evidence
which supports and contradicts this, and will draw upon studies and experiments conducted on
both human children and even more broadly in a number of different species. As children
approach the age of 17/18 months their ability to learn language is accelerated and they enter the
vocabulary spurt (lasting several months) during which they can acquire on average 10 new
naming words a day (Beverly A. GoldпЂЃeld and J. Steven Reznick, 1990, Early lexical
acquisition: rate, content, and the vocabulary spurt, Journal of Child Language). This phenomena
appears to be limited to children of this age, however could this occur in older children or
adolescents, who have experienced a lack of exposure to language or, who are attempting to learn
a second language? Is this speed of acquisition solely restricted to those in this particular ( sensitive
) stage of their lives?
The Critical Period Outlined
The concept of a critical period has been defined in many different ways, however, certain criteria
are often seen in most of the definitions discussed over time: the idea that this period is

Hag Seed Analysis
Unexpected occurrences take place that are negative, and these might be things which one does not
have control over. Authors often use internal struggles as a mental imprisonment that one much
conquers in order to achieve their full potential. In Hag Seed, Felix is backstabbed, kicked out of
his job as the director of the Makeshiweg theater festival, and put on his journey to prove to those
who betrayed him that they were wrong but most importantly he has to show himself that he can
overcome the harsh obstacles of failure and rejection. The psychotic break Felix suffers after his
termination, and Mirandas death, motivates him to direct The Tempest, which ultimately heals him.
With the acceptance that his career, in his mind, is over, Felix leaves the theater and consumed
with revenge. Humiliated, he retreats from society. Alone in a tiny hut, he mourns his lost little
girl, Miranda, who died not long before he was ousted from his position, and he plots his
revenge on his replacement, Tony Price. Refusal to tackle the situation head on leads to a path
of self wallowing. Felix s mind is clouded with possibilities of how he can hurt Tony because
forgiving takes more work and effort. He starts to realize that his spying is a little deranged,
though only a little (Atwood 44). With hopes of bettering himself, Felix searches for a job hoping
to gain control back to his life. He could not have found a more suitable position. He starts his own
theatre with the inmates who are

Rhetorical Analysis Of On Dumpster Diving By Lars Eighner
On Dumpster Diving by Lars Eighner is a collective work on the issue of Dumpster Diving, in
which Eighner depicts his own adventures as a Diver. His development of the central contention,
this way of life is not as it is portrayed or stigmatized, is progressed through Eighner s inclusion of
the three persuasive appeals: pathos, logos, and ethos. These three devices coupled with other
rhetorical devices provide an alluring argument, in which the reader sees the other side through a
new lens, and their opinions on this issue is vastly differed, upon completion of the reading.
The first appeal would be pathos, appealing to the audience s emotions by invoking a plethora of
feelings from personal examples. For instance, Eighner characterizes the sadness involved in
Dumpster Diving as he depicts of pets that are thrown into dumpsters asserting that, Although [he]
hope[s] to get off the streets so that Lizbeth [his dog] can have a long and comfortable old age
[....W]hen [Lizbeth s] time comes she too will go into a Dumpster (116). This shows how
Dumpster Diving is not as effortless and free flowing as it is conventionalized, depicting the
sorrow which is invoked. Using pets as an example is quite emotional in itself, as pets are
considered close to people s hearts, as well as being relatable. Consequently, the case of the
author pondering on his own pet s future, creates a connection between the reader and, thus
allows for the pain of the author to be felt by the reader. Another example of pathos is when
Eighner introduces himself as a Dumpster Diver and homeless as a result of the negative
connotations associated with the phrase Dumpster Diver and homeless, a sense of pity is directed
towards Eighner, as the way of living for him is drastically different from contemporary means.
One last example of an emotional appeal would be the narrative on the so called can scroungers.
Eighner accentuates the fact that these two groups [can scroungers and scavengers] are polar by
criticizing that Can scroungers lay waste to everything in their path and [. ...W]ill even go through
individual garbage cans, something [Eighner has] never seen a scavenger do (115). This text
renders the dichotomy Eighner is intending to

  • 3. Stars Always Shining Summary As one reaches adulthood, one reaches a level of sense of self identity and understanding of their status in society that one will come into agreement with. In Stars Always Shining, the author Rick Rivera explores the idea of belonging in society through the use of the characters and the influences of the environment. The main character, Placido along with his assisting characters, Michelle and Salvador, struggle with finding their place amongst society along with their relationships amongst each other and their bosses, Jacqueline and Mickey. In the beginning, we are shown how confrontational Mitchell, or Mitch, and Jacqueline are as they first get to know each other. Although Mitch tries to impress the owners with her vast knowledge she comes off as knowing more than the owners.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Pg 182) We can see the first revelation this interview yielded was that Jacqueline did not like Michelle s confidence. (Pg 195) Nevertheless, Mitch and Placido, or Place, being mere employees seeking for work, are needed to be reminded by Jacqueline and Mickey constantly throughout the story, that they, being the owners of the ranch and the ones investing into StarRidge Ranch, are the ultimate decision makers. As we move along in the plot, we verge on the realizations of the internal struggles many of the characters are dealing with to figure out where they belong in their relationships and with society around them. Mitch attempts to leave the world of law, she first believed she wanted, but struggles to get back to the world she grew up with, caring for the animals and the earth. Place comes to realize that he doesn t know if he fits in society as a Chicano American or a Mexican. He grew up a field worker with his family, but lost that part of his life and culture as he grew up and studied in college. He isn t able to express himself freely as an American to Jacqueline and Mickey but also has troubles understanding much of what Salvador has to say about the Mexican life and ... • 4. Digital Technologies In Legal Services Essay Discuss the increasing adoption of digital technologies in the provision of legal services with specific emphasis: a)Any Ethical responsibility for lawyers to ensure competence in their use; and b)Issues of client confidentiality arising out of their use Technology has been changing the way we live our lives in pretty much every way imaginable. The common belief in the past was that only manual work would be greatly affected by the rise of technology. However, service professions such as the legal profession, has certainly seen a change as well. There are discussions what this will mean in the future and whether it will go beyond the current role, which is acting more as an aid to lawyers. If that is so it could potentially change the current legal framework and question the role of lawyers themselves. There are also issues relating more to the protection of clients through data protection, confidentiality and accountability to look out for. This essay will focus on three main points. Firstly, discuss the overall impact of technology on the legal professions, while discussing the perceived threat of this. Secondly, exploring the lawyer s responsibility to offer quality and proper service and relating to accountability of these new technology aids. Lastly, it will discuss issues relating to confidentiality and the overall role of the lawyer to ensure this while balancing out the cost reducing and more efficient technologies. • 5. Strengths And Weaknesses Of The Black Scholes Model Introduction. The essay will examine the strengths and weaknesses of the Black Scholes model by first briefly understanding its birth in an effort to look to the intention on which the model is created to fulfil. This will then form the basis on which it will be assessed upon. Then the essay will examine the model s growth of usage, describe how the model functions and what it is used for, essentially outlining the model s strength. In so doing, the author will strive to highlight the benefits and changes the model brought into the financial markets and the people who uses it. When evaluating the model s sustainability, the essay outlines the model s limits and applications under certain conditions. Here, the author highlights the weaknesses of the model, both, within the model itself as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, outside these conditions, and as in the cases where the volatility estimation is imprecise, the model would obtain a price that may differ from its observed value. Hence, the model merely deals with the pricing of the option but it is the trader that then has to determine its value. Conclusion The Black Scholes model can be used extremely well in the manner in which it was set out to do. It is still used for many other variations. With newer and faster technologies, better algorithms and cheaper transaction costs, the model may perform even better in its current deficiencies in high volume calculations. As with any mechanical tool, one has to remember that the model has no preferences and merely calculates the data it is presented with. The user of the model would still have to evaluate that figure alongside market conditions. The financial markets are made up of the human valuation of the assets and humans deal with more than just numbers. In the final analysis, the Black Scholes model is a tool that must be used to compliment the party using ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Green Berets Analysis Green Berets came to the defense of the film. One lieutenant colonel commented that when Hollywood s doing it, you have to expect dramatization some exaggeration. But I thought it was a real fine film. Another officer enthusiastically said, I think it caught the essence, And according to a Green Beret sergeant major, the film, was just God, Mother, and Flag. Now who the hell could have any opposition to that? It was a good, low key, accurate picture...The accuracy was there and the photography was real great. However, one black character in The Green Berets is not the correct number that was actually represented in Vietnam, because the number of African American soldiers who served in combat far exceeded their percentage of the population. Thus, Wayne did not accurately portray the racial demographic of the military at the time. Roger Ebert vouched, The Green Berets simply will not do as a film about the war in Vietnam. • 7. Biodiversity And Its Impact On Biodiversity Biodiversity is what makes the planet earth unique and different from every other planet in the solar system. Biodiversity can be studied on a global level all the way down to studying it within a microscopic ecosystem (National Wildlife Federation, 2015). It is important to understand that biodiversity can be looked at genetically as well as environmentally as well. For example, genetic biodiversityis seen in the variation of different breeds within the dog species, while environmental biodiversity is the diversity of ecosystems and habitats (National Wildlife Federation, 2015). Preserving biodiversity is perhaps the most important task that humans have to complete while living on this planet. The ecosystems that make up all of the regions worldwide are immensely complex, so conservation may be difficult at times. Additionally, many factors influence the species that inhabit ecosystems, and these factors may complicate the preservation of biodiversity. Moreover, there is a plethora of threats to biodiversity, both natural and manmade that are destroying ecosystems on a daily basis. Out of these threats, the human influences are particularly severe and must be taken care of at all costs. Biodiversity provides countless benefits for every ecosystemand creature, which is what makes it worthy of conservation. Through the introduction and relocation of species, some degree of restoration may be possible in the future. Biodiversity is an amazing natural process that makes life ... Adolescence is a time of change and the addition of divorce in the family complicates this development, especially in terms of mental health. (N. Civitci, A. Civitci N.C. Fiyakali, 2009) Following parental divorce, adolescents tend to suffer because of the poor coping strategies they implement, influencing increased negative affectivity. (Consoli et al., 2013) Negative affectivity may be defined as emotional distress or a tendency to experience negative emotions. The purpose of this paper is to examine research surrounding the effects of divorce on adolescents negative affectivity. The Justification Of The Nsa Unlawful Spying Activities The justifications provided for the leakage of the NSA unlawful spying activities also support the argument that Snowman s act was permissible. For instance, Snowden justifies his act by stating that he relied on the U.S Constitution, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as well as the 1945 Nuremberg declaration. He provides his explanation for his shift from the his earlier held philosophy of nationalism by noting that people have an international duty that surpasses their national obligations of loyalty, (Scheuerman, 2014). He further expounds that sometimes national loyalty leads to national relativism whereby people overlook their country s evils, instead preferring to focus on distant and external evils. Generally, intelligence systems are extensively concealed, which exposes them to potential abuse by those in charge. This results in abuse of human rights such as privacy rights that is detrimental to the very security that such systems ought to safeguard. As such, blowing the whistle on such activities can be an effective mechanism of exposing the ills that characterize intelligence systems. Furthermore, Scheurman (2014) argues that a requirement for whistleblower identity disclosure as proposed in Sagar s framework enhances their opportunity to fulfill their obligations to justify their actions. They further state that whistleblower identity disclosure demonstrates civic mindedness. In addition, the disclosure of the whistle blower s identity helps to prevent ... • 12. Private Pensions Essay For most Americans, retirement has become a lifelong goal. To retire comfortably, you need income, and this income can come from one of three sources: savings, Social Security, or a company pension plan. The unfortunate fact is that Americans save very little money nowadays, and for anyone under forty, Social Security is a very hollow promise. For most, private pensions are the key to a comfortable retirement. When it comes to private pensions, however, most companies and employees themselves don t contribute enough money, meaning that future retirees will have to work longer if they want to maintain their pre retirement standard of livВ¬ing into retirement. There are two types of private pensions in America: the defined benefit pension... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Additionally, the costs of the pensions were also supported by the federal government in the form of company tax deductions for whatever money was set aside for a workers pension plan. Over time, these pension plans for industrial workers became very generous. Everything seemed promising, until foreign competitors with no such pension obligations began to emerge. Many of these foreign companies paid lower wages, but even worse, had products that were just as good as and sometimes better than American manufactured products. When the once strong labor monopoly began to crumble, pensions became a massive and unsustainable cost to most companies, many of which were trying to stay afloat in an extremely competitive global market. Many employees thought that their retirement was secure and agreed to lower wages with the promise of a generous pension plan. Sadly, companies began to trim the fat away in order to survive, and many American s pensions were on the chopping block. There just wasn t enough money in the funds to support them anymore. Millions of Americans were faced with the harsh reality that jobs don t last forever and economic security is not guaranteed. Many people thought that they had good unions, good pensions, and good healthcare. That isn t the case today. Slowly, it all began to erode away at such a gradual pace that most didn t even notice until it was too late for them to do anything about ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A daughter of the victims, Lizzie Borden was arrested, tried and acquitted of the crime. She was a woman of spotless character and reputation, and more than that she was educated, refined and prominently connected with the work of the Christian church in the Fall River (Gates 2).The town and the country were divided in their opinions of who could commit such horrifying murders. This means that the pitcher comes into a game in a high pressure situation, where arousal and anxiety levels will be high. This article consists of tips from the greatest closer of all time in Mariano Rivera. The article places emphasis on managing emotions, learning from a loss and narrowing focus (Cohn, 2014). Managing the emotions is applicable to the theories because the pitcher will need to stay in the optimal level of functioning, if considering Hanin s (1980, 1986, 1997) theory, or at the midpoint for the Inverted U theory and not becoming over aroused to avoid catastrophe. It is important to overcome the negative thoughts and the wordy that is associated with pressure. With this role in the team, there is a strong likelihood of high cognitive anxiety and if that becomes too much then the athlete will have a serious decline in their performance and lead to a poor performance and probably a loss/failure. This could lead to the pitcher going into a performance slump and have continued poor performances, because of the high levels of cognitive anxiety and worry. This could continue until the athlete can reach the level of optimal functioning again. Recovering from a loss closely links to the catastrophe theory as well. If a pitcher has a poor performance and the worry continues into the next performance, then the pitcher will be unsuccessful and will worry about their ability to get the job done, which is a result of high cognitive anxiety. • 15. Shutter Island, by Dennis Lehane and The Yellow... Gothic tales are known for being mysterious and gloomy. Certain elements are integrated throughout the narrative to create the desired effect, and simultaneously suggest other ideas. Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane and The Yellow Wall Paper by Charlotte Perkins Stetson are significantly similar, by the way both settings highlight the idea of madness. The relationship between setting and madness is induced by the display of physical isolation, disturbing elements, and hallucinatory incidents. Also, as the patients in Shutter Island are cut off from society and merely exposed to criminally insane people, it is hard for them to come back to a state of sanity. Briefly, physical isolation of the locale in gothic literature finds its way into establishing madness, nevertheless, additional disturbing elements impact on insanity as well. Just in the same way as isolation affects the mental state of characters, disturbing elements in their surroundings can lead to this outcome in the narrative. In Stetson s short story, the description of the room indicates that the windows are barred [...] and there are rings and things in the wall (250). Additionally, the wallpaper is stripped off in great patches all around the head of [her] bed, about as far as [she] can reach, and in a great place on the other side of the room low down (251). This distortion is introduced by the narrow bandwidth and some distortions due to the media through the optical signals travel. The linear transversal filter is used to reduce symbol interference. • 17. Motivation Theory, And Theory Y Shilan Shah Professor Khoury MGT 201 04: Management Principles 5 December 2014 Motivation Paper Motivation acts a force to energize and direct behavior in the workplace (Myers 329) so that employees perform tasks to a high degree. It is motivation that retains employees in a company because improper motivation acts as a deterrent to productivity and joy. Whether physiological, emotional, or incentive based, motivation affects our lives everyday and induces our natural drive to thrive and succeed. Many psychological theories explain the different ways employees may become motivated, such as Maslow s hierarchy of needs, Herzberg s two factor theory, and theory Y, based on how appealing a stimuli may be to an employee s needs. A successful company only exists if its employees are properly motivated. However, finding the right types of motivation proves to be difficult considering the variety of employees within the company. While one employee may appreciate vacation time, another may feel he is not properly motivated to do more for the company. One employee may crave recognition, while another finds solace in completing their work without any applause. Also, in terms of incentives, it would be hard to distinguish employees who work intrinsically to perform quality work from those who work extrinsically for the reward. Too much of a stimuli leads to habituation and employees may ultimately become demotivated (Myers 340). Without motivation, however, employees ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Poetry Analysis Of We Real Cool By Gwendolyn Brooks Poetry Analysis of We Real Cool By Gwendolyn Brooks We Real Cool, by Gwendolyn Brooks is a fervent short poem that tells a story of teenage rebellion. This poem is a formal verse ballad which uses simple sentences that create a steady meter giving the poem a catchy jazz like quality. Although the poem is short, it packs a powerful message about youth. Gwendolyn Brooks centered her works predominately around the African American consciousness. During the 1960 s when the poem was written, many teens especially young African American men felt misunderstood and like the world was set up for them to fail. On the surface, it appears this poem is a mere description of young adults that are misjudged. The deeper message of this poem addresses the dangers of peer pressure, and its detrimental effects to self identity because of the disconnect between society and youth of that time. Peer pressure can take place whenever people gather together and spend frequent time together. Most people are subject to its effects and often experience it because, of shared experiences or they share the same perspective on life. This becomes dangerous when a group has enough influence to dictate an individual s way of thinking or behavior. When an individual is desperate to find a place to belong, they will follow the crowd even if they know that they are participating in something immoral; this is demonstrated in We Real Cool. • 32. Is Bataille s Philosophy Something We Could Realistically... Is Bataille s philosophy something we could realistically live by? Critically discuss with reference to the concepts of unproductive expenditure and transgression. Bataille argues that in modern capitalist society, we are measured by our utility and production within this system. Material utility is restricted to production and to conserving goods whilst limited to reproduction and to the preservation of human life. As a result, we work within this framework where values, rules and laws have been created for us to work within, which, Bataille argues, restricts our liberty. Though utility is an apparent positive principle of capitalism, Bataille sees this as a principle of powerlessness and an incapability of being able to expend (Botting and Wilson, 1997, 192). He uses the example of a boy who wants to waste and destroy but cannot do this because he cannot justify it in utilitarian terms and is unaware that others also have this interest. The father of the boy is partly responsible for repressing the boy s desire to waste and destroy through things he provides for him: a home, clothes food and partial recreation. This does not actually satisfy what the son s desires are as there is something fundamental within the character of the son. Bataille is trying to demonstrate how in society, the father is like production, which provides us with the basic components of living but not what we really need and how this excess desire the boy has, needs to be satisfied. Ozone is not the same as the oxygen humans breathe. There is very little of this gas in the atmosphere. First off, let s begin with a definition of the ozone layer. Ozone is a hot, slightly bluish gas. It is a molecule made up of three oxygen atoms, which are very similar to the molecule we are familiar with (O2), the molecule needed for human respiration. Despite the major smog problem, about 90 percent of Earth s ozone are actually in the stratosphere, a layer of the atmosphere far above the Earth s surface. Ozone depletion and over exposure to enhanced UV B radiation can lead to deadly melanoma skin cancer, increased eye cataracts, and damages to the near surface oceanic phytoplankton, which is the basis of the food chain. The natural depletion of the stratospheric ozone chemistry cycle has been severely interrupted by ozone depletion associated with the decay of chlorofluorocarbons ( Links 4). These are contained in a wide range of products, including aerosol sprays and refrigerants and insulating foam packaging. Ozone concentrations are measured by a Dobson spectrophotometer and satellite based instruments and results from these measurements show a decrease in stratospheric ozone levels of about 1 percent per year since 1979. Studies show that every 1 percent decrease in ozone should produce a 2 percent increase in UV B radiation, and a 4 percent increase in skin cancer (Thompson5). • 37. 19th Century Industrialization Essay 19th Century Industrialization Nineteenth Century Industrialization During the second half of the nineteenth century, the United States experienced an urban revolution unparalleled in world history up to that point in time. As factories, mines, and mills sprouted out across the map, cities grew up around them. The late nineteenth century, declared an economist in 1889, was not only the age of cities, but the age of great cities. Between 1860 and 1910, the urban population grew from 6 million to 44 million. The United States was rapidly losing its rural roots. By 1920, more than half of the population lived in urban areas. The numbers declined to 6 million in the 1910s and 4 million in the 1920s, after which official restrictions cut the flow of immigration down to a negligible level. The roads paved with gold theory led to the downfall of the vast majority of immigrants. • 38. What Is The Theme Of The Morgue Scene In ThГ©rГЁse Raquin, Г‰mile Zola uses specific scenes in order to convey and communicate explicit concepts from which the reader can extrapolate key themes in the novel, and the Morgue scene of Chapter XIII is an excellent example of this. Such scenes also offer a comprehensive depiction of the times and the Morgue scene gives us a slice of Parisian life during the 19th century. Across the span of this chapter, Zola s unflinching depiction of the morgue, the bodies lying on the slabs, and most importantly, his meticulous illustration of those who visit the morgue for titillation or other reasons, impose profound connotations of Parisian society in that period. One of the reasons for such a realistically lifelike extract was Zola s deliberate effort... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Zola regarded Manet as one of the masters of the future and defended him against harsh critics, as he strongly believed in the way Manet expressed himself in his paintings. Manet s Olympia , in particular, generated intense scandal due to its sexual connotations and many disapproved of the painting. However, Manet s talent motivated Zola to include crude sexuality and painterly technique in his writing. In truth, the theme of sexuality permeates the entire novel, even in the Morgue scene; Zola s portrayal of the coarse primitiveness of human nature is again evident when the gangs of kids come in stopping only by women s bodies to stare impudently at the naked breasts . This is a perversely disturbing spectacle for youngsters to see, but Zola approaches it matter of factly, commenting without irony that It is in the Morgue that young street urchins have their first mistress . This graphic image of the exposed breasts creates an abhorrent atmosphere for the reader, signifying an objectification of women during that time as this piece of writing can be seen as patriarchal novel. Nonetheless, fireplaces, campfires, and birthday candles, rouse the fascination of children and adults because it is the universal symbol of spirit. Unlike conventional symbols, fire has an intrinsic relationship with the spirit it represents. A fire radiates heat and light to create an impression of power and liveliness. Connell et al. (2013) discuss gender cannot be argued against as being irrelevant to educational outcomes and student performance. A significant factor in Australia in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries was the expansion of education on a massive scale, with the result being a school conceiving social class (Connell et al. 2013, p.106). Kimball (1995) relates working concepts of meritocracy are closely linked to science. Science is believed to be true and objective, a more meritorious type of knowledge that has accurate ideas, methodologies and people. Science automatically assumes that it is elevated above other forms of knowledge, becoming apparent in scientists one way method of communication, with an attitude that there is nothing to be gained by communicating with a non scientific person (Kimball, 1995, p.141). • 43. Explain Why The Cotton Gin Was Invented By Eli Whitney The cotton gin was invented in 1794 by Eli Whitney directly following the creation of the new nation, yet prior to its westward expansion. This invention caused cotton to quickly become the most profitable cash crop, which caused it become widely spread among agricultural lands across the country. This westward expansion of cotton fields and gins placed a gigantic burden on enslaved blacks who were being forced to harvest cotton and operate the gins as property . Cotton, and even more so slavery, had become such a vital resource to the country s economy, that they overall success of the economy was directly connected to the agricultural success of cotton and the cotton gin in the South. Textile centers, like Lowell, were expanding rapidly, leading to improved life for many textile workers, and slaves having the opposite outcome. This growth in the American economy during the 1830 s 40 s was known as King Cotton . While it is believed that this occurred only deep within the South, that was not entirely the case. Therefore, the play they engage in, from childhood to adulthood will be centered around ensuring their ability to handle the physical duress they will be placed under. This is critical to the survival of the tribe as a whole because if the adults in the tribe could not handle physical duress, it is likely that they would be ill prepared for the lifestyle of the Yanomami. Play can be used as a training tool for the future as seen by the horseplay, or it can simply be used as a method to unwind. The most common way for the Yanomami to unwind is through the use of hallucinogenic drugs. (3) Finance gave value when they granted Mikes Bikes $250,000 in working capitol. (4) The agreement Finance sent to Mike s Bikes qualifies as a security agreement. This because it grants a security interest in the bikes. It adequately describes the bikes as inventory. Even though the fact pattern refers to it as personal property it is not because the property is held in the trade of business. The bikes are inventory because they are held by the debtor for sale to consumers. The security agreement is authenticated by the electronic signature of the debtor in the reply email. This is because multiple documents that are attached to each other can qualify as a security agreement. Finance s security interest would still attach to the bikes acquired after March 1, 2015 even though there security agreement did not contain the terms or henceforth acquired. • 48. The Acquisition Of Child Language Introduction The acquisition of child language has become a heated debate in which many discuss how and when a child is able to learn both their first and even their second language. The critical period hypothesis is a theory which claims that after a certain age children will no longer be able to achieve a native level of fluency in any given language. This essay aims to dissect the evidence which supports and contradicts this, and will draw upon studies and experiments conducted on both human children and even more broadly in a number of different species. As children approach the age of 17/18 months their ability to learn language is accelerated and they enter the vocabulary spurt (lasting several months) during which they can acquire on average 10 new naming words a day (Beverly A. GoldпЂЃeld and J. Steven Reznick, 1990, Early lexical acquisition: rate, content, and the vocabulary spurt, Journal of Child Language). This phenomena appears to be limited to children of this age, however could this occur in older children or adolescents, who have experienced a lack of exposure to language or, who are attempting to learn a second language? Is this speed of acquisition solely restricted to those in this particular ( sensitive ) stage of their lives? The Critical Period Outlined The concept of a critical period has been defined in many different ways, however, certain criteria are often seen in most of the definitions discussed over time: the idea that this period is ... • 50. Rhetorical Analysis Of On Dumpster Diving By Lars Eighner On Dumpster Diving by Lars Eighner is a collective work on the issue of Dumpster Diving, in which Eighner depicts his own adventures as a Diver. His development of the central contention, this way of life is not as it is portrayed or stigmatized, is progressed through Eighner s inclusion of the three persuasive appeals: pathos, logos, and ethos. These three devices coupled with other rhetorical devices provide an alluring argument, in which the reader sees the other side through a new lens, and their opinions on this issue is vastly differed, upon completion of the reading. The first appeal would be pathos, appealing to the audience s emotions by invoking a plethora of feelings from personal examples. For instance, Eighner characterizes the sadness involved in Dumpster Diving as he depicts of pets that are thrown into dumpsters asserting that, Although [he] hope[s] to get off the streets so that Lizbeth [his dog] can have a long and comfortable old age [....W]hen [Lizbeth s] time comes she too will go into a Dumpster (116). This shows how Dumpster Diving is not as effortless and free flowing as it is conventionalized, depicting the sorrow which is invoked. Using pets as an example is quite emotional in itself, as pets are considered close to people s hearts, as well as being relatable. Consequently, the case of the author pondering on his own pet s future, creates a connection between the reader and, thus allows for the pain of the author to be felt by the reader. Another example of pathos is when Eighner introduces himself as a Dumpster Diver and homeless as a result of the negative connotations associated with the phrase Dumpster Diver and homeless, a sense of pity is directed towards Eighner, as the way of living for him is drastically different from contemporary means. One last example of an emotional appeal would be the narrative on the so called can scroungers. Eighner accentuates the fact that these two groups [can scroungers and scavengers] are polar by criticizing that Can scroungers lay waste to everything in their path and [. ...W]ill even go through individual garbage cans, something [Eighner has] never seen a scavenger do (115).
