Explain Why College Should Not Be Free Essay
Why college should not be free
College in modern times is said to be a necessity for success, but should college be free? The
system college creates relies on the cost of the education being extremely high to function, if we
made college free it would lose all of its value. Without the high price, college would just be an
extension of your high school education. Education is expensive and someone else would have to
foot the bill for your secondary learning and housing. On the other hand, college creates many
problems for the students who choose to attend. Some of these problems include a perceived lack
of fairness, massive amounts of debt, and a lack of opportunity for students who grew up in a
lower economic class. Another drawback to expensive education is the very intelligent ... Show

Debt has become a major issue in politics for my generation, people think they should be
absolved of the debt they signed up for. It would be very good for our country if no person had
any debt from their education. In a time where the majority of people own less than the top one
percent, we should be doing everything we can to help people who cannot pay for their
education. The only problem is that someone has to pay back the money that they barrowed. It
would be irresponsible to trust your own debt, that you knowingly signed up for, onto every tax
paying American. When people sign up for college it is not like anyone forced them to take out
loans or forced them to go to college in the first place. Some might say that the cost of college is
so great that no person should be expected to pay back such a large sum. While it is true that the
cost is high, every person should be responsible for the money that they borrowed to pay for their
degree. Thankfully with a college degree you have more opportunities at getting a high paying job
to make it easier to pay your

Essay Catoon Violence
Cartoon Violence
In the cartoon, All Dogs Go to Heaven, the main character, a dog, dies. When he arrives in
heaven, he receives a watch that allows him to return to earth. After viewing this scene, Matthew,
a five year old boy, asked his mother when his dog would get her watch. Matthew s dog passed
away over a year ago, but because Matthew, as well as other children, is unable to separate real life
from fiction; he believed that his dog would receive a watch and return to him.
Many types of violence are viewed in cartoons and because they are centered on the interest of
children, children are at great risk of mimicking the actions and attitudes the characters portray. ...

The plot of this cartoon is to stop Scar from taking over the kingdom. Simba returns from running
away after the death of his father, King Mufasa, to learn that his uncle has taken control of the
kingdom. In his effort to take the control back, Scar reveals that he is the one who killed King
Mufasa, not Simba. Outraged in anger Simba puts Scar into exile. However, Scar does not want to
leave, but instead fights Simba for the thrown. It seems this cartoon leads a child to think that if he
/she wants something, then he/she needs to involve fighting and violence. quot; The Lion King
quot; also shows Scars enemies, the hyenas, attacking him because he betrays them. When children
watch this cartoon, they may mimic what they see. Children should learn to be verbal instead of
physical when resolving their problems.
quot;Forty six percent of all television violence takes place in children s cartoons. Children s
programs are least likely to depict the long term consequences of violence (five percent) and they
portray violence in a humorous fashion sixty seven percent of the time quot; (Baby Bag Online).

Difference Between Capitalism And Capitalism
1)Capitalism is an economic system that supports individual ownership of property and the
production of goods and services for private gain. This system is often guided by the forces of
demand and supply which implies minimal government intervention.Capitalist mode of production
according to Marx is the product of the industrial revolution and the division of labor coming from
it .In Marx s capitalismdivision of labor is necessary for production. This division affects the
working class in such way according to Marx that they become crippled beings .It is through this
process of becoming crippled that they experience what is called acute alienation .Alienation in a
capitalist society is when the workers divide from their humanity because the worker can only
express themselves through labour. Each worker becomes an instrument,a thing, and not a person
in the eyes of capitalism.Under Marx s capitalist reality, the division of labor is a necessary
condition for commodity production .This division attacks the working class at the root of their
life.In fact according to Marx the alienation mentioned earlier has several dimensions. The first
being the worker becoming estranged and not only from the products of his or her labor but also
from the production of his or her labor.Second being the workers activities belonging to the
capitalist and the translation of this into the loss of the workers self.Which essentially means he or
she enstraging his or herself from themselves

Eisenhower Intro Paragraph
Intro Paragraph Dwight David Eisenhower had an interesting early life. He was born on October
14, 1890. Dwight was born in Denison, Texas, however, he never considered Denison his
hometown (Mara 7). Eisenhower was the third child of seven children of Ida Elizabeth Stover
Eisenhower and David Jacob Eisenhower ( Dwight D. Eisenhower). One of Dwight s younger
brothers, Paul, was born in 1894, but died in 1896 due to scarlet fever. In the early 1890s the
Eisenhower family moved to Abilene, Kansas. His father was a mechanical engineer that repaired
equipment in a creamery (Brown 13, 15). Dwight s father was also strict. Dwight was always a
hard worker who had a positive attitude and a responsible person who never quit. He was also

generals and political leaders. Introduction Sentence Eisenhower had six brothers while Truman
had one brother and one sister. Eisenhower s family was on the poorer side, but the Trumans did
not have to worry about money as much. Eisenhower grew up in a non fighting home.
Eisenhower was fully involved in sports, but Truman was restricted because of his glasses.
Eisenhower was not sure of his religion, but Truman was a definite Baptist. Introduction
Sentence (Eisenhower s Military Career) Dwight Eisenhower started his military career by
applying to West Point, New York or Annapolis, Maryland. Annapolis worked with navy training
and West Point was for the army. Eisenhower wanted to go there because the tuition was free. He
ended up going to West Point. He traveled to there in June of 1911. His parents, mostly his
mother, disapproved of going to an army school, but they allowed him to go. The newcomers to
the school were called plebes and for the first few weeks they were ridiculed by the older students.
Eisenhower was tough and went through this with no problem. Eisenhower gained a reputation as
a troublemaker, but nothing big. Ike tried to play sports but he did not make the baseball team,
which was his favorite sport, but he made the football team. A football injury ruined a future in
athletics. Dwight Eisenhower graduated from West point in 1915 with a ranking of 61 out of 164

Sign Prion Disease
Prions: What they are and what they are not There are many neurological diseases in the world.
Many are ones we have found cures for or at lease have treatment to help with symptoms. Prions
are much different than that. Prions come from the two worlds Protein and Infection. This disease
is the combination of both proteins and infections cause spongiform encephalopathies. This
translates to holes in the brain . Prion diseases have many names depending on what sort of
mammal that infect. Creutzfeldt Jakob disease is the most common in humans along with Kuru,
which is only found in the cannibalistic tribes in New Guiana. There are other types of prion
diseases that affect animals like cows (Mad Cow disease), sheep (Scrapie disease) and elk/deer
(Chronic Wasting Disease). Regardless of what they are called they all have the same basic
pathology. There is still a lot of mystery that surround prion disease but now there is more

what is called variant Creutzfeldt Jakob disease. There is a different type of Creutzfeldt Jakob

sporadic. This is were the disease has a sudden and unexplainable onset and usually affects
individuals in their 60s. The other variation of prion disease that is found in humans is Kuru. Kuru
is a prion disease that was found in tribes that practice cannibalism specifically in eating raw
human brain matter. This is an extremely rare disease and has not been discovered in places that do

The Iron-Sulfur-Made Up Hypothesis
There are many different ideas of how life began on Earth, and it seems that people can not agree
on one. Scientists believe that life must have began as early as 3.8 billion years ago, but they still
can t decide on how it started. There are many theories that explain different ways it may have
began.
The Primordial Soup Hypothesis was presented by The Russian Chemist A.I. Oparin and English
Geneticist J.B.S. Haldane. They came up with this idea in 1920. In this theory, they thought that the
combination of some chemicals and a source of energy made amino acids, which later evolved into
the first life on Earth. They believed that life started in an ocean or pond. In 1950, Stanley Miller
and Harold Urey did an experiment to test this hypothesis by mixing gases from Earth and sparking
the mixture to represent lightning. The conclusion came to be amino acids. These scientists thought
that this hypothesis could be correct because the current scientific level did not show any problems
with their ideas. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

lipids would have built up on the pyrite and made an enclosed membrane that may have evolved

theory was believed because it was supported by evidence as some of the other theories were not

Research And Development Of Oral Drug Delivery System
The purpose of writing this review was to investigate, compile, recent, current and past literatures.
In recent years several advancements has been made in research and development of oral drug
delivery system. Various drugs, which are unstable in alkaline pH, soluble in acidic pH, having
narrow absorption window, site of action specific to stomachcan be developed by using this
technique. Gastro retentive drug delivery systems (GRDDS) can improve the controlled delivery of
drugs that have an absorption window by continuously releasing the drug for a prolonged period of
time before it reaches to absorption site. These include floating system, swelling system, expanding
system, low density systems, high density system, bioadhesive and mucoadhesive systems etc. In
fact the buoyant dosage unit enhances gastric residence time (GRT) without affecting the intrinsic
rate of emptying. GRDDS is an approach to prolong gastric residence time, thereby targeting site
specific drug release in upper gastro intestinal tract improving the oral sustained delivery of drug.
For minimizing the limitations and achieving better gastric retention various combinational
approaches floating and swelling, floating and bio adhesion, etc., multi particulate systems, super
porous hydrogel etc., have been discussed. The present review addresses briefly about suitable drug
candidates, formulation considerations, physiological difficulties and classification, factors
effecting gastric retention, merits,

The Life Of Luxury Tourism And The Political Economy...
Gregory explains about the theme of Luxury Tourism and the political economy dominated by
those with power. The purpose of this chapter is to provide discussion on the hiring of the
natives in the Dominican Republic. The thesis of the chapter is to explain how the riff raff are
arising from the problem of the luxury tourism having little contribution to the local economies.
The key to the analysis of Gregory of this situation is his concept of citizenship as a technology
of power that empowers the tourism police to uphold a sort of social hygiene for the benefit of
the tourists, who would rather not to be disturbed or aggravated by the beggars or vendors. This
system of exclusion relies on the cГ©dula (national ID) that one must have with the specific end
goal to get formal work, for example, to sell products in the Zona Playera (Gregory 135). The
most valuable of Gregory s experiences is his thought of the imperial masculinity supporting sex
tourism. The scenario is evident when Gregory observes a gathering of the U.S. Army men who
are off duty stationed in the nation; he is told to watch out for Cuba, being acquainted with a couple
of young prostitutes at a bar. Their connections with the women (grabbing and looking at their
bodies, asking their ages, and posing for photos), Gregory notes, were dramatically performed to
impel the aggregate cooperation of the men (through laughter, catching the eyes of each other, and
hollering and whooping and hollering). Their

Archetypes In True Grit
True Grit, by Charles Portis, is a fantastic story where the main character, Mattie Ross, seeks
revenge for her father s death. One of the key character archetypes that is important to know about
Mattie is her general attitude towards anything that may cross her path: unfazed and generally not
bothered. The best example of this is how she describes the deathof her father in the first chapter.
Usually when it comes to children in adventure novels, the death of a parent or guardian serves
as a tragic backstory for the character and changes their life for the worse (e.g. Harry Potter, the
Baudelaire children, and Katniss Everdeen). All of these children faced some kind of grief
following the death of their respective parent, but the only description we receive from Mattie
concerning her father s murder is Tom Chaney raised his rifle and shot him in the forehead,
killing him instantly (16). This bleak and straight to the point attitude that Mattie characterizes
serves as a basis for her philosophy of justice. Mattie does not beat around the bush when it
comes to justice. She has a fixed view on how law should be carried out against Tom Chaney and
stops at nothing to achieve this. Put simply, Mattie wants him dead, and she wants him to know
that he is dying as a result of him killing her father. This view and interpretation of justice closely
resembles the eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth philosophy of the Code of Hammurabi where the
life of Tom Chaney must be payed for

Elie Wiesel s Night Essays
Night
In Night, by Elie Wiesel, there is an underlying theme of anger. Anger not directed where it
seems most appropriate at the Nazis but rather a deeper, inbred anger directed towards God.
Having once been a role model of everything a good Jew should be, Wiesel slowly transforms into
a faithless human being. He cannot comprehend why the God who is supposed to love and care
for His people would refuse to protect them from the Germans. This anger grows as Wiesel does and
is a constant theme throughout the book.
Early in Night, Elie Wiesel begins to express doubt about his faith. Some talked of God, of his
mysterious ways, ...and of their future deliverance. But I had ceased to pray. How I sympathized
with Job! I did ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What does Your greatness mean, Lord of the universe, in the face of all this weakness, this
decomposition, and this decay? Why do You still trouble their sick minds, their crippled bodies?
(63)
In this passage Wiesel has become more overtly angry with God. He no longer hides behind the
reverence he has grown up knowing. Rather he is openly charging God with not only the
destruction of the Jewish people, but also with continually plaguing their thoughts. Having the
false hope that God may one day save them seems like a cruel joke. Wiesel seems to be saying that
if God has already decided not to save them, than the least He can do is quit allowing the people to
pray to and follow Him.
Wiesel also seems angry at the thought of comparing God s infinite greatness with the complete
disintegration of the people in the concentration camps. Thinking about God s power and strength
seems impossible when the only people surrounding Wiesel who are in positions of power are the
enemy. It seems almost morbidly amusing that the Jews are relying on this Savior who allows such
horrible conditions to continue. If he is so wonderful, why does he not save them?
Later in Night, Wiesel starts to believe that he has become a stranger among his own people and
religion. He no longer feels any spiritual connection with the other Jewish people.

Nt1330 Unit 9 Final Project Case Study
Hi Mehdi, Thank you for reaching out to us! There are a couple of approaches for a solution to
your issue. The first involves using a higher resolution Clouds Image file; which are included
with every FreeFlyer install. The image file locations of Earth textures used in FreeFlyer 2D and
3D models are stored and set via the User Preferences Editor, located in the Options menu. Then
under the Display section on the left side of the User Preferences Editor, click Mission View and
look at the Celestial Bodies box. Choose Earth from the drop down box showing Sun, and you ll
see the file paths of the various images used for Earth. If you click the Browse button next to the
Clouds Image Filename a window will appear with additional options for images, where you can
select the earth_clouds_high.jpg or earth_clouds_very_high.jpg . After updating the file path select
OK , rerun the Mission Plan and the clouds should now generate with a higher resolution.... Show

The quickest way to confirm this is to run your Mission Plan using Software Rendering and
examine the Mission View windows. For context, software rendering is used when the video card
of the host machine does not meet the minimum requirements for FreeFlyer 7.0+. The minimum
requirements can be found in the FreeFlyer help file in the appendix, but the most pertinent
requirements are that the graphics card must support OpenGL 2.1 or higher and there must be at
least 512mb of RAM available on your machine. Software rendering is also used when the
graphics card drivers are out of date and the drivers limit the supported OpenGL format, even if
the graphics card is technically able to support OpenGL 2.1 or higher. If the issue is no longer
present while using Software Rendering then I would suggest up dating your graphics card driver to
the most recent version and restarting your

Comfort Provided by Room 208
I m sitting in a room belonging solely to myself. The walls are white as snow and the room is

uniforms draped across the door my camouflage reminds me that I m a part of society change. Its

Oil Industry
Group 16:
Econ Project #1
Due: 16 October 2003
Introduction by Jamie Ifkovits: Oil is certainly the world s largest cash commodity. One of the
main products produced from crude oil is gasoline. Gas plays a significant role in the life of
people in countries throughout the world. Gas accounts for approximately 17% of the energy
consumed in the United States and is primarily used for powering automobiles ( A Primer on
Gasolne Prices 5 Oct 2003). The prices paid by customers at the pumps reflects the price of
production and delivery, the retail costs, and taxes ( A Primer on GasolinePrices 5 Oct 2003). By
1932 all of the states had excised taxes on gasoline and the federal government introduced its first
tax on gasoline. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This price fall is stated in the law of supply. There maybe a surplus, which would cause the price
to fall more. The quantity will increase from Q1to Q2 because there is more gasoline in the area.
Question 2 by Jeremy Simmons
This increase in tax will initially be paid for by the suppliers. The prices will rise at about the same
rate since all suppliers will be paying the same tax. This will cause the price in all gasoline stations
to increase there prices by at least 50Вў. Since the price has increased the quantity demanded will
decrease. This is shown in the law of demand. Since the quantity demanded has decreased this
means that there will be less gasoline sold because people will not want to pay the high prices
for gasoline. The majority of the tax increase will be paid for by both the consumer and the
suppliers. This is because of elasticity, but more so deadweight loss, which is a reduction in the
number of transactions that take place as a result of a tax increase (Miller 2001) .
Question 3 by Doug Miller
Prices for gasoline tend to be greater along the Pennsylvania Turnpike than they are at the turnpike
exits. This happens because rest stop gas stations receive a greater volume of traffic than stations
located at the exits. This increased number of vehicles visiting the gas station forces the demand
curve to shift outward from its original position. The supply curve however, stays constant. There
are no production factors that affect the supply

I believe that there is nothing you can do to prevent your death, many people could argue that
Romeo and Juliet could have done many things differently to prevent their deaths. Here are a
few things many people believe they could have done to prolong their lives: Romeo did not have
to kill Tybalt, Romeo could have stayed in Mantua and waited on the priest, and a very good idea
would have been that they could have aloaked and ran away. First of all, Romeo did not have to
kill Tybalt, because the Prince was going to kill him anyway, as a punishment for murdering
Mercutio. I can see how some people think Romeo did the right thing by killing Tybalt. Tybalt did

The Origin Of Spain s Current Economic Crisis
On the Origin of Spain s current Economic Crisis
The economy of Spain has taken a downturn in 2011 since the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries.
Unlike the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, where Spain was a global empire, modern Spain is
facing a very stagnant economy. Spain s unemployment rate reached a record of 27 percent in
2011. This shows that more than 1 in 5 Spaniards is struggling to feed their family. Luckily, things
had gotten better. The October 2015 unemployment report shows that the number of those who are

Spain s historical glory did not prevent it from current economic crisis. Spain was the first global

This allowed Spanish people at the time to enjoy a cultural golden age during the fifteenth and

with this history of his family. He traces it back to three hundred years. His father and his wife
settled in Boston along with Franklin and his siblings. Although Franklin is identified as

Cacao Influence On Mayan Culture
At first consideration, chocolate and the Maya peoples do not appear to be related in any
manner, but this could not be farther from the truth. Cacao, the tree from which chocolate is
processed, is heavily intertwined in the religious and secular lives of the Maya, in the past as well
as the present. Chocolate, as we know it today, too was born from the Maya and their contact with
the Europeans, perhaps the only good thing to come from the interactions. Thanks to the
Europeans, cacao has impacted the rest of the world in as great a manner as it impacted the Maya.
The Maya were, and are, a group of Mesoamericans whose settlements spanned from Mexico to
Belize, beginning as early as 1500 B.C.E (Maya People). According to a display at the ki

The Pros And Cons Of Air Pollution
Imagine the world around us different than how it would be now. Less safe and more risk for
diseases. People are finding it harder and harder to breathe the toxic air. It is becoming more
unbearable each day. Arctic sea levels have risen. Gas prices are at an all time high due to oil no
longer being as easy to grasp. The world we live in is dark, gloomy, and filled with a life that is
worrisome for us, and our future children. It is no longer livable for mankind, but how do we
avoid such a troublesome future? What is some sort of solution to help the future of mankind to
provide clean air not just for us, but for future generations? One simple solution to prevent this sad
future is purchasing an electric vehiclerather than a gasoline vehicle. According to the union of
concerned scientists in 2013, transportation contributed to more than half of the carbon monoxide
and nitrogen oxides, and almost a quarter of the hydrocarbons emitted into our air. This air
pollution carries significant risks for human health and the environment. Through clean vehicle and
fuel technologies, we can significantly reduce air pollution from our cars and trucks, while cutting
projected U.S oil use in half within the next 20 years. Due to such high gasoline prices, the electric
vehicles market has grown drastically in the past couple years. Electric cars are quiet, more energy
efficient, save you money, and have zero emissions rather than a gasoline car. Therefore, I support

Designing A Business Plan For A Future Bed And Breakfast
I am in the process of designing a business plan for a future bed and breakfast that I would like to
open in a couple of years. I would like to purchase some land outside of Austin, TX in order to
build this bed and breakfast. I plan on starting this company with a partner, my younger sister,
Mercy. We want to know if we should start a general partnership, with both of us as a general
partner, or a limited partnership, with me as the general partner and Mercy as the limited partner.
In addition to the type of partnership we are considering establishing, we have already decided that
we will be using the entity theory of partnerships, which regards partnerships as a distinct and
separate entity from either of us, the partners. As such, both Mercy and I will be able to enter into
taxable transactions with the partnership. And this means that the partnership can hold the title to
the land, is not legally liable for our (the partners) debts, and is required to file annual returns using
the Form 1065 reporting operation results.
Our main question is that we would like to know what type of debt we should take out in order to
establish this partnership and be able to finance the land in which to build the bed and breakfast.
We want to know, and understand, the difference between recourse debt and non recourse debt
and how it pertains to a partnership as well as to the individual partners. We would also like to
know which of these two types would be the best type of debt to incur

Project Proposal For Non Structured Data Essay
PROJECT PROPOSAL
Moving from Structured to non Structured Data
PROJECT ADVISOR
PROJECT TEAM:
ABSTRACT
The promise of data driven decision making is now being recognized broadly, and there is
growing enthusiasm for the notion of ``Big Data. While the promise of Big Data is real for
example, it is estimated that Google alone contributed 54 billion dollars to the US economy in
2009 there is currently a wide gap between its potential and its realization.
Heterogeneity, scale, timeliness, complexity, and privacy problems with Big Data impede progress
at all phases of the pipeline that can create value from data. The problems start right away during
data acquisition, when the data tsunami requires us to make decisions, currently in an ad hoc
manner, about what data to keep and what to discard, and how to store what we keep reliably
with the right metadata. Much data today is not natively in structured format; for example, tweets
and blogs are weakly structured pieces of text, while images and video are structured for storage
and display, but not for semantic content and search: transforming such content into a structured
format for later analysis is a major challenge. We will find out a way how structured big data can
be transformed into unstructured data to increase the performance. Storage price trends have
shown that now a days it s not a big deal to afford storage for big un structured data. As far as
performance is concerned, big data

Law Enforcement Officer
Why is anyone considered a hero? Well one person who pops right into my mind is our law
enforcement officers. In fact, they are constantly looking fear in the face right here at our home.
As a matter of fact, the typical hero everyone thinks of is our service men and women, but think
about the men and women who you call when there s a robbery, or a disturbance, or someone is
slinging dope on the street. You don t call the national guard, or the marines you dial 911.
First, let s look at what a police officer must go through on a daily basis. Sure, some cops just
answer domestic disturbances, whereas Phil, a drunk and disorderly man, is throwing the handset
phone at his wife and threatening her life, who does she call? Not the military, no she ... Show more

In return, the gang may now send goons to take out the officer sitting in his patrol car, or send
them after his family. Meanwhile, police officers are recommended to not carry photos in their
wallets with them for these specific purposes. The job of a police officer is never easy. In return,
they should be shown the respect they deserve.
My final point I d like to make is all of the situations the officer goes through on the job causes a
lot of stress. The officer may bring these horrible moods home and argue with his or her spouse
or he or she may take it out on the kid. With the parent never home this neglects the kid from his
or her parent. The quality time that child is required is stripped of him, when a parent straps on
their utility belt and badge. Being a police officers has its ups and downs, many people s lives can
fall apart because of their career.
In conclusion, I believe all of these traits consequently, make a police officer a hero. They fight
crime, deals with sometimes unbearable amounts of stress, and ranking bears more vigorous
training. All of these traits make men and women of law enforcement, America s domestic heroes.

Skin resurfacing improves the rejuvenation of the skin by stimulating fibroblasts, the cells that are
responsible for the production of collagen that gives the skin its youthfulness and elasticity. As the
time passes, smoking, age and exposure to sun cause the breaking down of collagen which is why
saggy skin and fine wrinkles may appear. Differences in pigment and texture are also the
consequence of age, acne and sun damage. The treatments such as dermabrasion and laser
treatments may help this process and help even in facial scar removal.

Brown v. Board of Education Case
10/3/17
1.Describe the parties and facts.
The parties were minors of Negro race who have been denied admission to schools attended by
white children due to laws requiring or allowing segregation by race. This goes against the
Fourteenth Amendment in 1868 which addresses citizenship rights and equal protection. Lawsuits
were filed in Kansas, South Carolina, Virginia, Delaware, and District of Columbia. In all the
cases, but the Delaware case, the Plessy V. Fergson, 163 U.S. 537 doctrine provided equal
treatment, but in segregated facilities. In the Delaware case, the Supreme Court of Delaware
allowed the plaintiffs to attend white schools because of their superiority to the Negro schools. The
plaintiffs were still unsatisfied with this doctrine, as they felt segregated public schools is not
considered equal and they were not granted the equal protection law.
2.Explain the outcome.
Brown v. Board of Education was a unanimous decision. It was determined that education is the
very foundation of good citizenship , and to separate the colored from the whites will cause
inferiority and affect them in a way that can never be undone. On May 17, 1954, the U.S. Supreme
Court struck down racially segregated schools as unconstitutional in its landmark Brown v. Board
of Education ruling.
3.Identify ethical issues in the case.
When a state has provided opportunities for public school education, it should be a right to be

Comparing The Silk Road And Its Effect In China And The West
3. Describe the Silk Road and its use and effect in China and the West.
The Silk Road and its use and effect in China and the West can be best described as the primary
trade routes from China to Italy, specifically Rome. The name Silk Road would lead one to think it
was simply a road traveled much like traveling from North Carolina to California using Interstate
40. The Silk Road was much more than that. The trade routes of the Silk Road had a great and long
lasting effect on China and the West.
The Silk Road began in about 114 BCE. It was the fabled trade links between East Asia and the
West. The 5000 mile long network of caravan and sea routes stretched from Chang an to

Film Techniques in the Movie Shawshank Redemption
Shawshank Redemption directed by Frank Darabont is a compelling film about the life of one
of its prisoners, Andy. many film techniques were used through out the film as a clever way of
conveying main themes. This essay is going to examine how Darabont used camera angles and
colour effectively in this film to portray the idea of power. The use of camera angles was a clear
way of defining a characters personality. The warden, Norton, is often seen from a low angles
which highlights his high status in the prison and his authority. Your arse belongs to me . This
effective way of showing Norton s position of power allows the audience to understand the
significance of him. The prisoners, however are frequently shown from a high angle which... Show

When Andy plays music we see the prisoners shown form a bird s eye view, this is another
camera angle used to display the prisoners as small and insignificant. The camera angles used by
Darabont allow the audience to see the status of the characters. As the audience we get an
instant look into who is a in control and who isn t. While Andy is inside Shawshank we do not
see many variations of colour, mainly just shades of grey. these dull, lifeless colours highlight
the prisoners lack of power and for most of the prisoners, their lack of hope. Being contained in
those dull prison walls and obeying Norton completely shows that the prisoners do not maintain
any form of control in the situation they are in. The grey boring tones of the prison represent
how the prisoner are expected to act, dull, lifeless and without and opinion. The colours
Darabont has used show how insitutionalised the prisoners become. When Brooke s is released
these dull colours are also shown, emphasizing how he has become insitutionalised. This
contrasts against the colours shown during the reunion of Andy and Red. The audience no
longer sees grey, depressing colours, but instead sees the bright sand and vibrant colours of the
pacific ocean. This shows the audience how Andy is no longer controlled by the conformity of
prison life, has regained power and is now, finally free. both camera angles and use of colour were
effective ways of portraying the idea of power.

The Theory Of Economic Development
With this inquiry I seek to establish the role of finance in economic development as presented by
Joseph Schumpeter in his book, The Theory of Economic Development, [1911] The book analyzes
elements that make up for economic development in a capitalistic society as viewed by Schumpeter.
The elements mentioned include and revolve around the subject of finance. Finance is simply
defined by investopedia.com as, Finance is the science that describes the management, creation and
study of money, banking, credit, investments, assets and liabilities [web]. The role of some of the
mentioned elements, along with others, in economic development are mentioned and discussed in
Schumpeter s Theory. Research has proven that the financial intermediary between economic
growth and the entrepreneur who seeks to build new markets. Schumpeter exhibits this notion in his
work; the purpose of this inquiry is to clarify the character finance plays in the economic
advancement of a capitalistic society. This will begin with the exposition of economic development
as viewed by Schumpeter followed by the financial role from different chapters of his book. This
includes Credit and Capital, Entrepreneurial Profit, and Interests on Capital. Schumpeter

Summary Of Five Equations That Change The World
As stated in the book Five Equations that Changed the World, Michael Guillen discusses that in the
1700 s there were several principles of heat which were certain. The first principal stated that heat
could only flow one way; hot to cold, and second that in heat, friction changes motion (Guillen 171).
But what if those rules weren t entirely set in stone? Rudolf Clausius sought to become the first
person to prove that this was not always the case. Clausius curiousity was sparked when he
discovered the writings of Sadi Carnot. Carnot s observations of heat and energy came from his
observations and investigations in steam engines. Steam engines create energy from two main
contributors, the heat from the boiler and the coolness from the radiator. In the book Reflections of
the Motive Force of Heat by Carnot, Carnot states his principal in which work produced by ... Show

He relied mainly on learning from secondary sources that were being distributed after Carnot was
became gravely ill. Clausius noticed that the steam engine Carnot described was in essence a
perpetual motion machine in which the work that was produced from it would be turned back
into head, which would fuel said engine, leading to the creation of more work, which was
recycled back into heat, and so on and so forth. This made Clausius curious as to if this process
could be applied in a larger spectrum. Clausius was curious if it could be applied to the universe
(Guillen 178 180).
In vein with Cardot s steam engine, Clausius figured that the unit of heat could be exchaged for a
unit of work (otherwise known as energy) without affecting the universal energy as a whole. He
also realized after much contemplation that in steam engines, heat is changed into energy by the
pistons. It was in that moment that he realized that his idea of entropy applied to the everything.
This led to the creation

Film and Movement
Photographic technologies brought with them the ability to freeze and capture for unlimited time a
specific moment in time and space. However, these technologies also arose issues surrounding
concepts of art and reproduction right along side depiction of reality through certain medium.
Walter Benjamin s essay The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction and Siegfried
Kracauer s, Basic Concepts, in Theory of Film, seek to convey the relationship between film and its
ability to capture movement in time, concentrating in film s qualities as a medium and its
representation of reality. Nevertheless, they disclosed divergent, yet, related ideas and concepts
about the representation of reality and movement. Before exploring the ability of film to capture
movement, it is necessary to express the difference of film and still photography. Film was not
expected to become a social political tool. Its origins with Lumiere brothers popularized it as a
medium for the reproduction of reality, capturing a moment in time in a sequence of photograph .
It contextualize the still images of a simple photographs and recreated the real world. However,
film and photography share many key concepts. As Kracauer mentions in his essay, the nature of
photography survives in that of film (27). In essence film and photography are the same. Both film
and photography can capture a moment in time and space, creating its own Benjamin s concept of
Aura and meaning. Nevertheless, film has an

This new cereal is called *name here*, and it is our job to determine the correlation between
calories and potassium in order to make the new cereal healthier by lowering the calories but
increasing potassium. We have researched the interrelationship between calories and potassium
and this paper is a product of our analysis. We have compared data between the top fifteen cereals
and have found that calories and potassium have a negative correlation. However this is only a
coincidence as it is other factors, such as sugar, fiber, protein, and fat that correlate most directly
to calories, while certain ingredients have more potassium than others. Calories and potassium are
both essential parts of the diet that the human body needs in order to survive. A calorie is a unit of
energy that measures how much energy the body gets just by eating or drinking it. It is generally
thought that the higher the calories, the worse it is for the body. It is thought that way because the
extra calories that the body doesn t use is converted to fat, and too much fat is linked to health
problems such as arthritis (joint degeneration), heart disease and diabetes. Potassium is an

Who Was Nikola Tesla Is An American Inventor
Who do you think of when you hear the word genius? You most likely think of Albert Einstein,

However, I doubt Nikola Tesla comes to your mind. Nikola Tesla was a Serbian inventor in the
1880s, whose advances in electrical technology rivaled those of Thomas Edison. Tesla had one of
the greatest minds in recorded history, so why isn t he as well known as these other so called

was born to Djuka Mandic and Milutin Tesla on July 9th or 10th in 1856 in Smiljan, Croatia (part
of the Austrian Empire at the time). Tesla s father was an Orthodox priest and a writer. As Tesla
grew up, his father tried to convince him to follow in his footsteps and join the priesthood. Tesla,
however, was uninterested in being like his father and instead found a love in science. This love
most likely came from his mother. Though she was illiterate and uneducated, she often made small

Ralph [makes] a step forward and Jack [smacks] Piggy s head (Goulding 71). Multiple times,

Symbolism in The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne Essay
Symbolism enhances the meaning of even a simple painting. It is when a person looks at the
images in the painting and tries to understand why the painter made those images while another
person looks at it and just calls it dumb without even trying to understand it. The latter person
completely loses faith in the painting and misses the actual point. When people first read The

Pearl s presence gives Hester a reason to live and augments her spirits whenever she loses hope.
Pearl, just like the literal meaning of her name, is really precious to her mother and represents the
passion and spirit the sin provoked in Hester.
The Meteor
The meteor also plays a vital role in The Scarlet Letter. In Chapter 12, when the meteor makes the
letter A in the sky, it is a reminder of the same sin made by Hester to Dimmesdale. It implies that the
letter A should also be worn by Dimmesdale. But the rest of the society interprets the meteor
differently. They think it stands for Angel denoting the entry of the Governor into heaven.
The Red Color
While red personifies Hester s passion as well as hope and love. For example, the red letter, the
red rose bush and Pearl s red dress. Just like Hester doesn t fit in the Puritan society, the wild rose
bush outside prison doesn t fit in the place it grows. The red light shining through the room when

society.

Why Should Magnetic Levitation Trains be Implemented in...
Magnetic Levitation Trains
Magnetic Levitation Trains, why should they be implemented in the United States? Whenever
individuals talk about trains, a few ideas pop into one s mind. These include the railway tracks
that provide runways for the wheels, the noise associated with them and the long heavy carriages
that they pull. Utilizing the words Magnetic Levitation in relation to trains may seem like a
peculiar idea. Why? Levitation can be described as the act of raising an object upward in relation
with its lightness. Trains are known to be heavy. Magnetic levitation, which is also known as

Adoption of this technology in the United States of America would change the railway
transportation system forever. Firstly, the Maglev trains do not produce any noise. This is because
the technology does not incorporate wheels, bearings, axles and the metallic railway track
(Livingston, 2011). The train is propelled by and kept on the guide way by the well coordinated
magnetic forces acting within the semiconducting magnet and the coils. This means that the noise
pollution caused by trains as they move from town to town would be eliminated (McMahon and
Mora, 2010).
Secondly, this technology does not cause any friction between the train and the track, therefore,
allowing for smooth rides. As the train floats on the track, the friction and the unevenness of the
conventional track are eliminated (Shadbolt, 2013).. This facilitates individuals to carry out various
activities such as reading and working in a comfortable manner compared to the conventional
trains. Adopting this technology will provide more comfort in the public transportation sector.

Environmental Issues of Coal Mining
ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES OF COAL MINING
INTRODUCTION
Coal is the most abundant fuel resource in India. It is the prime source of energy and perhaps the
largest contributor to the industrial growth of the country. It is a crucial and enduring element in a
modern, balanced energy portfolio, providing a bridge to the future as an important low cost and
secure energy solution to sustainability challenges. Some important facts about coal industry in
India are as follows:
India is the third largest producer of coal in the world
Coal is one of the primary sources of energy
India has some of the largest reserves of coal in the world
Indian coal has high ash content (15 45%)and low calorific value

There is concern that this natural phenomenon is being altered by a greater build up of gases
caused by human activity.
This is known as the enhanced greenhouse effect. The combustion of coal, like that of other fossil
fuels, produces CO2, a gas that is linked to global warming through the greenhouse effect.
The combustion of coal produces gaseous emissions of sulphur dioxide (SO2) and nitrous
oxides (NOx) that are responsible for the production of acid rain and ground level ozone . Acid
rain occurs when SO2 and NOx gases react in the atmosphere with water, oxygen and other
chemicals to form acidic compounds. Ground level ozone (O3) is mainly responsible for smog
that forms a brown haze over cities. Ground level ozone is formed when NOx gases react with
other chemicals in the atmosphere and is enhanced by strong sunlight. Emissions of SO2 and NOx
are termed trans boundary air pollution because the environmental impacts from the production of
these gases are not restricted by geographical boundaries.
(II) Impact of Coal Mine Fires
A number of coal mines in the country are affected by fires leading to steady destruction of
precious energy resource. The reason for mine fires presumably involves the phenomenon of
spontaneous heating through two interrelated processes viz., the oxygen coal interaction or
oxidative process and

Feedback And Sports Performance Analysis
i believe chapter 6 has multiple important points when developing athletes young or old is
feedback giving to the athlete directly from the coach i believe this is true because as a current
athlete, athlete are out to impress the coaches of the position or institution the athlete wants to
attend and to receiving feedback from coach, makes the athlete want to go out and repeat wanted
behavior if the reinforcement is precieved to be positive versus negative feeback which also has a
purpose in the developmental stages but too much negative feedback can make the game and
environment unpleasant potentially losing players.6 in today s class the circular relationship

Essay On Cash Loans
Once you ve finished reading this article, you should know enough about cash loans to make the
right decision about them, and also be able to explain them to others
Advances with payday loans help you get through to your next payday. These loans always come
with strict fees attached. When you fall behind in your bills, you could ask for extensions and work
closely with your utility service providers to pay your arrangers. Or you can go for a payday loan. A

They just verify your employment and banking information, and process the loan. But there are a
few that will have you fax them documents with signatures.
The way payday advance help is in their flexibility. A borrower can be at ease knowing this
transaction is private and discreet. Many advances are used for common things that can sneak up on
us by our mishandling of our monthly budgets.
When you search on the Internet for a loan, you ll see there are many websites devoted to this
industry. If you can find one closer to your area, it could serve you better. Some lenders of these
loans are restricted to their own areas. There is a bit of controversy surrounding this industry in
many places, and some states are trying to shut these resources down.
Many people and officials claim that these payday loans are preying on people who are down
financially, and taking advantage. They feel these lenders are merciless, greedy, and gluttonous,
making their profits off the misfortune of others. But others say you need to look at some of the
traditional loan institutions before being so quick to judge.
In reality, a payday loan can be cheaper than having a bank overdraft. Overdrafts today are quite
expensive. When you obtain a payday loan for paying off overdraft fees, it might cost you, but not
as much as incurring another overdraft fee. If you any type of disconnection charges, you ll
probably pay less for the payday loan for

Stereotyping Is Bad
Is stereotyping really bad? Well, it isn t bad because it helps people understand who does what
because of this, right? However, that s not necessarily true. In this world, stereotyping has been a
part of how we live. To some people, stereotyping has been a serious issue; to others, not so much.
Stereotypeis a term defined as: An oversimplified generalization about a person or group of people
without regard for individual difference.
An author named Shankar Vedanttam talks about this issue in his article How a Self Fulfilling
Stereotype Can Drag Down Performance. He states, The performance of African Americans who
interacted with black interviewers has answered 6.33 questions correctly the same as white ones.

It would always make me feel so dumb when I didn t get everything on my math test correct.
When I was young, people would always label everyone by their race and gender. Whites are better
than blacks. Asians need to get everything correct in math because they are the smartest. All
Mexicans are bad immigrants. These are things that people do to certain races that need to be fixed.
We live in a society where we base how a certain race is because of an amount of people s wrong
doing.
I haven t opened my eyes until I ve come to the conclusion that we were all stereotyped because
we needed to distinguish what a person is by what they looked liked and how they act. I ve had
friends who were from Mexico and they treated me with much respect and care. I have a brother
in law who is black and he would do anything and everything for my sister and for the people
around him.
Of course, there have been some people who have done wrong things and they may have been
black or white or any sort of race. However, these people shouldn t give us a reason why we need
to neglect the good people who have done fantastic things. All in all, we need to focus on the
person itself rather than the race or gender or whatever the group they belong to. Stereotype threats
could have been the reason performance drops, but we really don t know if that is the

A Universal Health Care System
A universal health care system All Americans should have access to healthcare despite their ability
to pay.
Americans should have access to healthcare because no American should go in debt in order to be
seen by a Doctor.
Any American that doesn t have health insurance because they cannot afford private health
insurance should have an option for a government ran insurance system. After the age of twenty
two I was no longer able to be on my mother s health insurance and because I was not pregnant, I
did not qualify for any type of state insurance. At this time I was working at a restaurant that did
not offer health insurance, and was only making minimum wage. Being diagnosed with epilepsy
the year before, I started looking at what I could find for private health insurance. Due to my
epilepsy diagnoses, most insurance companies would not even talk to me, and the companies that
did could only offer me plans that would cost me four hundred to six hundred dollars a month. I
was only making around twelve hundred dollars a month, and I was not able to afford to pay that
much money for health insurance. So instead of going to the doctors like I needed too, I only
would only go to the ER when my health got bad.
One day, I was on my way to work when I had a seizure at the bus stop, I spent a week in the
hospital and went home with a medical bill of five thousand dollars. I went back to work, but we
had to move and things started to get worse, because I was not able to pay my

I Sit Before You A Self Proclaimed Sustainablatarian
I sit before you a self proclaimed Sustainablatarian. I ve come through a long list of food and
lifestyle choices and here is where I am today.
Many years ago, I heard someone say be true to yourself so I quit eating meat. I had wanted to
for a while, but it s hard to go against the grain; to do other than what our culture tells us is
normal . When I was growing up the hippies from the 60 s were still weirdo s so that s what I
learned was the definition of weird. Since those weird hippies were vegetarians I didn t want to be
that. But sometimes it only takes finally listening to something we ve heard a million times.
My choice was partially a dietary choice. I told myself that if I didn t eat the meat I would have to
supplement my diet was something and hopefully it would be healthier. And partially it was an
ethical choice. I had read Michael Pollen s article Power Steer among other things and knew
about how animals are treated and believe it to be wrong. I don t object to animals dying because
that s part of the cycle of life. Something has to die so the something else can live. I used to say I
feel just as guilty about the broccoli dying as the cow dying. I don t actually feel very guilty about
either because I believe it s the way Mother Nature set up our system.
Over time the dietary choice has melded with the ethical choice. It s healthier for me to eat food
that was raised healthfully. I m still choosing not to eat unhealthy foods and replacing

Reflection Paper On Language And Emotions
1.Using the chapters on language and emotions to help frame your answer, suggest two ways that
Ken could open this conversation more productively, beyond clearly expressing his emotions and
using I language.
Two ways in which Ken could have opened this conversation productively would include 1)
owning his current feelings and 2) taking responsibility for his own actions (Wood, 2012). Instead
of his current opening, Ken could have said something like,
Jan, I really need to speak with you. I completely understand that what happened between Katie and
me was wrong, but by you telling Shannon, it has not only created issues between Shannon and me,
but also has me feeling a bit uneasy about confiding in you.
2.How do you perceive Jan s effort to convince Ken to forgive her? Based on what you have
learned in this chapter, suggest two ways she might more effectively seek Ken s forgiveness.
Firstly, Jan could have completely owned her actions and asked if there was any way to make it
up to him. Secondly, Jan should stay on topic. By her bringing up Ken telling her dad on her, and
comparing it to this situation, she effectively negated Ken s feelings and engaged in cross
complaining. Cross complaining is described as When a person s complaint is met by aa
countercomplaint (Wood, 2012, p. 233), as opposed to showing recognition of the other person s
original concern.
3.What are two nonverbal cues used by Jan? What are two nonverbal cues used by Ken? In what

Benefits Of Technology Essay
Technology is increasingly becoming more prominent in the daily lives of the working class as
well as a child s education. Technology can be very helpful in certain times, but at other times it
seems as if we depend on it more than we are actually learning. Is technology more helpful than
harmful? This seems to be a dispute within this new age technologyworld we live in today.
Certainly, there are ways we can use the internet to help us obtain information, and having the
knowledge at our fingertips does have positive advantages in making our lives easier. However,
there are also large concerns in having this tool due to changing the way we learn, think, obtain
information, and how largely it can influence our daily decisions.
The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Is technology worth the risk of our children losing the ability to be able to converse with one
another? It is vitally important that we use old tactics like writing our own songs, but blend in
technology by taking notes from musicians or downloading one s own song for others to hear.
On one hand, technology does excite children, and helps them sit still for a lengthy period of
time. On the other hand, children still need to know the importance of being able to effectively
write their own music and develop a sense of self achievement without the aid of internet access.
The teachers in Schools C and D were very clear about the necessity to balance the use of digital
technology with the opportunity to develop other musical skills and undertake other music
activities (130). It is pertinent that we have a well rounded balance using the internet, and a child
s own hidden talent, which is important for self worth. If we are taking everything from someone
else s work, where is the success really coming from, and how can we deem it as our own?
Reading, writing, learning, and speaking proper English is incredibly important, but with the use of
technology our children are losing the ability to obtain and relay information. Due to the use of the
internet and google, children can type in whatever question they have at hand, see the answer,
answer the question, and forget it in a matter of minutes. It is ok to not know everything and try to

  • 2. Explain Why College Should Not Be Free Essay Why college should not be free College in modern times is said to be a necessity for success, but should college be free? The system college creates relies on the cost of the education being extremely high to function, if we made college free it would lose all of its value. Without the high price, college would just be an extension of your high school education. Education is expensive and someone else would have to foot the bill for your secondary learning and housing. On the other hand, college creates many problems for the students who choose to attend. Some of these problems include a perceived lack of fairness, massive amounts of debt, and a lack of opportunity for students who grew up in a lower economic class. Another drawback to expensive education is the very intelligent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Debt has become a major issue in politics for my generation, people think they should be absolved of the debt they signed up for. It would be very good for our country if no person had any debt from their education. In a time where the majority of people own less than the top one percent, we should be doing everything we can to help people who cannot pay for their education. The only problem is that someone has to pay back the money that they barrowed. It would be irresponsible to trust your own debt, that you knowingly signed up for, onto every tax paying American. When people sign up for college it is not like anyone forced them to take out loans or forced them to go to college in the first place. Some might say that the cost of college is so great that no person should be expected to pay back such a large sum. While it is true that the cost is high, every person should be responsible for the money that they borrowed to pay for their degree. When he arrives in heaven, he receives a watch that allows him to return to earth. After viewing this scene, Matthew, a five year old boy, asked his mother when his dog would get her watch. Matthew s dog passed away over a year ago, but because Matthew, as well as other children, is unable to separate real life from fiction; he believed that his dog would receive a watch and return to him. Difference Between Capitalism And Capitalism 1)Capitalism is an economic system that supports individual ownership of property and the production of goods and services for private gain. This system is often guided by the forces of demand and supply which implies minimal government intervention.Capitalist mode of production according to Marx is the product of the industrial revolution and the division of labor coming from it .In Marx s capitalismdivision of labor is necessary for production. This division affects the working class in such way according to Marx that they become crippled beings .It is through this process of becoming crippled that they experience what is called acute alienation .Alienation in a capitalist society is when the workers divide from their humanity because the worker can only express themselves through labour. Each worker becomes an instrument,a thing, and not a person in the eyes of capitalism.Under Marx s capitalist reality, the division of labor is a necessary condition for commodity production .This division attacks the working class at the root of their life.In fact according to Marx the alienation mentioned earlier has several dimensions. The first being the worker becoming estranged and not only from the products of his or her labor but also from the production of his or her labor.Second being the workers activities belonging to the capitalist and the translation of this into the loss of the workers self.Which essentially means he or she enstraging his or herself from themselves ... Scientists believe that life must have began as early as 3.8 billion years ago, but they still can t decide on how it started. There are many theories that explain different ways it may have began. The Primordial Soup Hypothesis was presented by The Russian Chemist A.I. Oparin and English Geneticist J.B.S. Haldane. They came up with this idea in 1920. In this theory, they thought that the combination of some chemicals and a source of energy made amino acids, which later evolved into the first life on Earth. They believed that life started in an ocean or pond. In 1950, Stanley Miller and Harold Urey did an experiment to test this hypothesis by mixing gases from Earth and sparking the mixture to represent lightning. The conclusion came to be amino acids. • 9. Research And Development Of Oral Drug Delivery System The purpose of writing this review was to investigate, compile, recent, current and past literatures. In recent years several advancements has been made in research and development of oral drug delivery system. Various drugs, which are unstable in alkaline pH, soluble in acidic pH, having narrow absorption window, site of action specific to stomachcan be developed by using this technique. Gastro retentive drug delivery systems (GRDDS) can improve the controlled delivery of drugs that have an absorption window by continuously releasing the drug for a prolonged period of time before it reaches to absorption site. These include floating system, swelling system, expanding system, low density systems, high density system, bioadhesive and mucoadhesive systems etc. In fact the buoyant dosage unit enhances gastric residence time (GRT) without affecting the intrinsic rate of emptying. GRDDS is an approach to prolong gastric residence time, thereby targeting site specific drug release in upper gastro intestinal tract improving the oral sustained delivery of drug. For minimizing the limitations and achieving better gastric retention various combinational approaches floating and swelling, floating and bio adhesion, etc., multi particulate systems, super porous hydrogel etc., have been discussed. The present review addresses briefly about suitable drug candidates, formulation considerations, physiological difficulties and classification, factors effecting gastric retention, merits, ... • 10. The Life Of Luxury Tourism And The Political Economy... Gregory explains about the theme of Luxury Tourism and the political economy dominated by those with power. The purpose of this chapter is to provide discussion on the hiring of the natives in the Dominican Republic. The thesis of the chapter is to explain how the riff raff are arising from the problem of the luxury tourism having little contribution to the local economies. The key to the analysis of Gregory of this situation is his concept of citizenship as a technology of power that empowers the tourism police to uphold a sort of social hygiene for the benefit of the tourists, who would rather not to be disturbed or aggravated by the beggars or vendors. This system of exclusion relies on the cГ©dula (national ID) that one must have with the specific end goal to get formal work, for example, to sell products in the Zona Playera (Gregory 135). The most valuable of Gregory s experiences is his thought of the imperial masculinity supporting sex tourism. The scenario is evident when Gregory observes a gathering of the U.S. Army men who are off duty stationed in the nation; he is told to watch out for Cuba, being acquainted with a couple of young prostitutes at a bar. Their connections with the women (grabbing and looking at their bodies, asking their ages, and posing for photos), Gregory notes, were dramatically performed to impel the aggregate cooperation of the men (through laughter, catching the eyes of each other, and hollering and whooping and hollering). • 11. Archetypes In True Grit True Grit, by Charles Portis, is a fantastic story where the main character, Mattie Ross, seeks revenge for her father s death. One of the key character archetypes that is important to know about Mattie is her general attitude towards anything that may cross her path: unfazed and generally not bothered. The best example of this is how she describes the deathof her father in the first chapter. Usually when it comes to children in adventure novels, the death of a parent or guardian serves as a tragic backstory for the character and changes their life for the worse (e.g. Harry Potter, the Baudelaire children, and Katniss Everdeen). All of these children faced some kind of grief following the death of their respective parent, but the only description we receive from Mattie concerning her father s murder is Tom Chaney raised his rifle and shot him in the forehead, killing him instantly (16). This bleak and straight to the point attitude that Mattie characterizes serves as a basis for her philosophy of justice. Mattie does not beat around the bush when it comes to justice. She has a fixed view on how law should be carried out against Tom Chaney and stops at nothing to achieve this. Put simply, Mattie wants him dead, and she wants him to know that he is dying as a result of him killing her father. This view and interpretation of justice closely resembles the eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth philosophy of the Code of Hammurabi where the life of Tom Chaney must be payed for ... • 12. Elie Wiesel s Night Essays Night In Night, by Elie Wiesel, there is an underlying theme of anger. Anger not directed where it seems most appropriate at the Nazis but rather a deeper, inbred anger directed towards God. Having once been a role model of everything a good Jew should be, Wiesel slowly transforms into a faithless human being. He cannot comprehend why the God who is supposed to love and care for His people would refuse to protect them from the Germans. This anger grows as Wiesel does and is a constant theme throughout the book. Early in Night, Elie Wiesel begins to express doubt about his faith. What does Your greatness mean, Lord of the universe, in the face of all this weakness, this decomposition, and this decay? Why do You still trouble their sick minds, their crippled bodies? (63) In this passage Wiesel has become more overtly angry with God. He no longer hides behind the reverence he has grown up knowing. Rather he is openly charging God with not only the destruction of the Jewish people, but also with continually plaguing their thoughts. Having the false hope that God may one day save them seems like a cruel joke. Wiesel seems to be saying that if God has already decided not to save them, than the least He can do is quit allowing the people to pray to and follow Him. Wiesel also seems angry at the thought of comparing God s infinite greatness with the complete disintegration of the people in the concentration camps. Thinking about God s power and strength seems impossible when the only people surrounding Wiesel who are in positions of power are the enemy. It seems almost morbidly amusing that the Jews are relying on this Savior who allows such horrible conditions to continue. If he is so wonderful, why does he not save them? Later in Night, Wiesel starts to believe that he has become a stranger among his own people and religion. He no longer feels any spiritual connection with the other Jewish people. ...Once I had believed profoundly that upon one solitary deed of mine, one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Question 2 by Jeremy Simmons This increase in tax will initially be paid for by the suppliers. The prices will rise at about the same rate since all suppliers will be paying the same tax. This will cause the price in all gasoline stations to increase there prices by at least 50Вў. Since the price has increased the quantity demanded will decrease. This is shown in the law of demand. Since the quantity demanded has decreased this means that there will be less gasoline sold because people will not want to pay the high prices for gasoline. In addition to the type of partnership we are considering establishing, we have already decided that we will be using the entity theory of partnerships, which regards partnerships as a distinct and separate entity from either of us, the partners. As such, both Mercy and I will be able to enter into taxable transactions with the partnership. And this means that the partnership can hold the title to the land, is not legally liable for our (the partners) debts, and is required to file annual returns using the Form 1065 reporting operation results. Our main question is that we would like to know what type of debt we should take out in order to establish this partnership and be able to finance the land in which to build the bed and breakfast. We want to know, and understand, the difference between recourse debt and non recourse debt and how it pertains to a partnership as well as to the individual partners. Project Proposal For Non Structured Data Essay PROJECT PROPOSAL Moving from Structured to non Structured Data PROJECT ADVISOR PROJECT TEAM: ABSTRACT The promise of data driven decision making is now being recognized broadly, and there is growing enthusiasm for the notion of ``Big Data. While the promise of Big Data is real for example, it is estimated that Google alone contributed 54 billion dollars to the US economy in 2009 there is currently a wide gap between its potential and its realization. Heterogeneity, scale, timeliness, complexity, and privacy problems with Big Data impede progress at all phases of the pipeline that can create value from data. The problems start right away during data acquisition, when the data tsunami requires us to make decisions, currently in an ad hoc manner, about what data to keep and what to discard, and how to store what we keep reliably with the right metadata. Much data today is not natively in structured format; for example, tweets and blogs are weakly structured pieces of text, while images and video are structured for storage and display, but not for semantic content and search: transforming such content into a structured format for later analysis is a major challenge. We will find out a way how structured big data can be transformed into unstructured data to increase the performance. Storage price trends have shown that now a days it s not a big deal to afford storage for big un structured data. As far as performance is concerned, big data ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In fact, they are constantly looking fear in the face right here at our home. As a matter of fact, the typical hero everyone thinks of is our service men and women, but think about the men and women who you call when there s a robbery, or a disturbance, or someone is slinging dope on the street. You don t call the national guard, or the marines you dial 911. First, let s look at what a police officer must go through on a daily basis. The parties were minors of Negro race who have been denied admission to schools attended by white children due to laws requiring or allowing segregation by race. This goes against the Fourteenth Amendment in 1868 which addresses citizenship rights and equal protection. Lawsuits were filed in Kansas, South Carolina, Virginia, Delaware, and District of Columbia. In all the cases, but the Delaware case, the Plessy V. Fergson, 163 U.S. 537 doctrine provided equal treatment, but in segregated facilities. In the Delaware case, the Supreme Court of Delaware allowed the plaintiffs to attend white schools because of their superiority to the Negro schools. The plaintiffs were still unsatisfied with this doctrine, as they felt segregated public schools is not considered equal and they were not granted the equal protection law. 2.Explain the outcome. Brown v. Board of Education was a unanimous decision. It was determined that education is the very foundation of good citizenship , and to separate the colored from the whites will cause inferiority and affect them in a way that can never be undone. On May 17, 1954, the U.S. Supreme Court struck down racially segregated schools as unconstitutional in its landmark Brown v. Board of Education ruling. 3.Identify ethical issues in the case. Film Techniques in the Movie Shawshank Redemption Shawshank Redemption directed by Frank Darabont is a compelling film about the life of one of its prisoners, Andy. many film techniques were used through out the film as a clever way of conveying main themes. This essay is going to examine how Darabont used camera angles and colour effectively in this film to portray the idea of power. The use of camera angles was a clear way of defining a characters personality. The warden, Norton, is often seen from a low angles which highlights his high status in the prison and his authority. While Andy is inside Shawshank we do not see many variations of colour, mainly just shades of grey. these dull, lifeless colours highlight the prisoners lack of power and for most of the prisoners, their lack of hope. Being contained in those dull prison walls and obeying Norton completely shows that the prisoners do not maintain any form of control in the situation they are in. The grey boring tones of the prison represent how the prisoner are expected to act, dull, lifeless and without and opinion. The colours Darabont has used show how insitutionalised the prisoners become. When Brooke s is released these dull colours are also shown, emphasizing how he has become insitutionalised. This contrasts against the colours shown during the reunion of Andy and Red. The audience no longer sees grey, depressing colours, but instead sees the bright sand and vibrant colours of the pacific ocean. This shows the audience how Andy is no longer controlled by the conformity of prison life, has regained power and is now, finally free. both camera angles and use of colour were effective ways of portraying the idea of power. ... Summary Of Five Equations That Change The World As stated in the book Five Equations that Changed the World, Michael Guillen discusses that in the 1700 s there were several principles of heat which were certain. The first principal stated that heat could only flow one way; hot to cold, and second that in heat, friction changes motion (Guillen 171). But what if those rules weren t entirely set in stone? Rudolf Clausius sought to become the first person to prove that this was not always the case. Clausius curiousity was sparked when he discovered the writings of Sadi Carnot. Carnot s observations of heat and energy came from his observations and investigations in steam engines. This made Clausius curious as to if this process could be applied in a larger spectrum. Clausius was curious if it could be applied to the universe (Guillen 178 180). In vein with Cardot s steam engine, Clausius figured that the unit of heat could be exchaged for a unit of work (otherwise known as energy) without affecting the universal energy as a whole. He also realized after much contemplation that in steam engines, heat is changed into energy by the pistons. It was in that moment that he realized that his idea of entropy applied to the everything. Walter Benjamin s essay The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction and Siegfried Kracauer s, Basic Concepts, in Theory of Film, seek to convey the relationship between film and its ability to capture movement in time, concentrating in film s qualities as a medium and its representation of reality. Nevertheless, they disclosed divergent, yet, related ideas and concepts about the representation of reality and movement. Before exploring the ability of film to capture movement, it is necessary to express the difference of film and still photography. Film was not expected to become a social political tool. Its origins with Lumiere brothers popularized it as a medium for the reproduction of reality, capturing a moment in time in a sequence of photograph . We have researched the interrelationship between calories and potassium and this paper is a product of our analysis. We have compared data between the top fifteen cereals and have found that calories and potassium have a negative correlation. However this is only a coincidence as it is other factors, such as sugar, fiber, protein, and fat that correlate most directly to calories, while certain ingredients have more potassium than others. Calories and potassium are both essential parts of the diet that the human body needs in order to survive. A calorie is a unit of energy that measures how much energy the body gets just by eating or drinking it. It is generally thought that the higher the calories, the worse it is for the body. It is thought that way because the extra calories that the body doesn t use is converted to fat, and too much fat is linked to health problems such as arthritis (joint degeneration), heart disease and diabetes. Whenever individuals talk about trains, a few ideas pop into one s mind. These include the railway tracks that provide runways for the wheels, the noise associated with them and the long heavy carriages that they pull. Utilizing the words Magnetic Levitation in relation to trains may seem like a peculiar idea. Why? Levitation can be described as the act of raising an object upward in relation with its lightness. Trains are known to be heavy. Magnetic levitation, which is also known as Maglev, is a rail technology that utilizes a special magnetized railway track to suspend a train on a magnetic cushion so that it can move freely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The alternating current induces a shifting magnetic field, which creates different temporary poles at timed intervals. Due to the positioning of the semiconducting magnets and creation of the different electromagnetic forces, the like pole tend to push while the unlike poles attract, therefore, causing motion in the direction dictated by the alternating current (Funk and Getsla, 2006). Adoption of this technology in the United States of America would change the railway transportation system forever. Firstly, the Maglev trains do not produce any noise. This is because the technology does not incorporate wheels, bearings, axles and the metallic railway track (Livingston, 2011). The train is propelled by and kept on the guide way by the well coordinated magnetic forces acting within the semiconducting magnet and the coils. This means that the noise pollution caused by trains as they move from town to town would be eliminated (McMahon and Mora, 2010). Secondly, this technology does not cause any friction between the train and the track, therefore, allowing for smooth rides. As the train floats on the track, the friction and the unevenness of the conventional track are eliminated (Shadbolt, 2013).. This facilitates individuals to carry out various activities such as reading and working in a comfortable manner compared to the conventional trains. The combustion of coal produces gaseous emissions of sulphur dioxide (SO2) and nitrous oxides (NOx) that are responsible for the production of acid rain and ground level ozone . Acid rain occurs when SO2 and NOx gases react in the atmosphere with water, oxygen and other chemicals to form acidic compounds. • 46. Stereotyping Is Bad Is stereotyping really bad? Well, it isn t bad because it helps people understand who does what because of this, right? However, that s not necessarily true. In this world, stereotyping has been a part of how we live. To some people, stereotyping has been a serious issue; to others, not so much. Stereotypeis a term defined as: An oversimplified generalization about a person or group of people without regard for individual difference. An author named Shankar Vedanttam talks about this issue in his article How a Self Fulfilling Stereotype Can Drag Down Performance. He states, The performance of African Americans who interacted with black interviewers has answered 6.33 questions correctly the same as white ones. The reason African Americans... When I was young, people would always label everyone by their race and gender. Whites are better than blacks. Asians need to get everything correct in math because they are the smartest. All Mexicans are bad immigrants. These are things that people do to certain races that need to be fixed. We live in a society where we base how a certain race is because of an amount of people s wrong doing. I haven t opened my eyes until I ve come to the conclusion that we were all stereotyped because we needed to distinguish what a person is by what they looked liked and how they act. I ve had friends who were from Mexico and they treated me with much respect and care. I have a brother in law who is black and he would do anything and everything for my sister and for the people around him. Of course, there have been some people who have done wrong things and they may have been black or white or any sort of race. However, these people shouldn t give us a reason why we need to neglect the good people who have done fantastic things. All in all, we need to focus on the person itself rather than the race or gender or whatever the group they belong to. • 47. A Universal Health Care System A universal health care system All Americans should have access to healthcare despite their ability to pay. Americans should have access to healthcare because no American should go in debt in order to be seen by a Doctor. Any American that doesn t have health insurance because they cannot afford private health insurance should have an option for a government ran insurance system. After the age of twenty two I was no longer able to be on my mother s health insurance and because I was not pregnant, I did not qualify for any type of state insurance. At this time I was working at a restaurant that did not offer health insurance, and was only making minimum wage. Being diagnosed with epilepsy the year before, I started looking at what I could find for private health insurance. Due to my epilepsy diagnoses, most insurance companies would not even talk to me, and the companies that did could only offer me plans that would cost me four hundred to six hundred dollars a month. I was only making around twelve hundred dollars a month, and I was not able to afford to pay that much money for health insurance. So instead of going to the doctors like I needed too, I only would only go to the ER when my health got bad. One day, I was on my way to work when I had a seizure at the bus stop, I spent a week in the hospital and went home with a medical bill of five thousand dollars. I went back to work, but we had to move and things started to get worse, because I was not able to pay my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. I Sit Before You A Self Proclaimed Sustainablatarian I sit before you a self proclaimed Sustainablatarian. I ve come through a long list of food and lifestyle choices and here is where I am today. Many years ago, I heard someone say be true to yourself so I quit eating meat. I had wanted to for a while, but it s hard to go against the grain; to do other than what our culture tells us is normal . When I was growing up the hippies from the 60 s were still weirdo s so that s what I learned was the definition of weird. Since those weird hippies were vegetarians I didn t want to be that. But sometimes it only takes finally listening to something we ve heard a million times. My choice was partially a dietary choice. I told myself that if I didn t eat the meat I would have to supplement my diet was something and hopefully it would be healthier. And partially it was an ethical choice. I had read Michael Pollen s article Power Steer among other things and knew about how animals are treated and believe it to be wrong. I don t object to animals dying because that s part of the cycle of life. Something has to die so the something else can live. I used to say I feel just as guilty about the broccoli dying as the cow dying. I don t actually feel very guilty about either because I believe it s the way Mother Nature set up our system. Over time the dietary choice has melded with the ethical choice. It s healthier for me to eat food that was raised healthfully. I m still choosing not to eat unhealthy foods and replacing ... • 50. Reflection Paper On Language And Emotions 1.Using the chapters on language and emotions to help frame your answer, suggest two ways that Ken could open this conversation more productively, beyond clearly expressing his emotions and using I language. Two ways in which Ken could have opened this conversation productively would include 1) owning his current feelings and 2) taking responsibility for his own actions (Wood, 2012). Instead of his current opening, Ken could have said something like, Jan, I really need to speak with you. I completely understand that what happened between Katie and me was wrong, but by you telling Shannon, it has not only created issues between Shannon and me, but also has me feeling a bit uneasy about confiding in you. 2.How do you perceive Jan s effort to convince Ken to forgive her? Based on what you have learned in this chapter, suggest two ways she might more effectively seek Ken s forgiveness. Firstly, Jan could have completely owned her actions and asked if there was any way to make it up to him. Secondly, Jan should stay on topic. By her bringing up Ken telling her dad on her, and comparing it to this situation, she effectively negated Ken s feelings and engaged in cross complaining. Cross complaining is described as When a person s complaint is met by aa countercomplaint (Wood, 2012, p. 233), as opposed to showing recognition of the other person s original concern. 3.What are two nonverbal cues used by Jan? What are two nonverbal cues used by Ken? In what ways did the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. Benefits Of Technology Essay Technology is increasingly becoming more prominent in the daily lives of the working class as well as a child s education. Technology can be very helpful in certain times, but at other times it seems as if we depend on it more than we are actually learning. Is technology more helpful than harmful? This seems to be a dispute within this new age technologyworld we live in today. Certainly, there are ways we can use the internet to help us obtain information, and having the knowledge at our fingertips does have positive advantages in making our lives easier. However, there are also large concerns in having this tool due to changing the way we learn, think, obtain information, and how largely it can influence our daily decisions. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Is technology worth the risk of our children losing the ability to be able to converse with one another? It is vitally important that we use old tactics like writing our own songs, but blend in technology by taking notes from musicians or downloading one s own song for others to hear. On one hand, technology does excite children, and helps them sit still for a lengthy period of time. On the other hand, children still need to know the importance of being able to effectively write their own music and develop a sense of self achievement without the aid of internet access. The teachers in Schools C and D were very clear about the necessity to balance the use of digital technology with the opportunity to develop other musical skills and undertake other music activities (130). It is pertinent that we have a well rounded balance using the internet, and a child s own hidden talent, which is important for self worth. If we are taking everything from someone else s work, where is the success really coming from, and how can we deem it as our own? Reading, writing, learning, and speaking proper English is incredibly important, but with the use of technology our children are losing the ability to obtain and relay information. Due to the use of the internet and google, children can type in whatever question they have at hand, see the answer, answer the question, and forget it in a matter of minutes. It is ok to not know everything and try to find ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
