Mulvey s Gaze
From a cinematography perspective, elements of Mulvey s essay persist throughout the film,
specifically, the idea of the male gaze upon females who are meant to be looked at. However, in line
with the homosexual themes in Carol, this gaze is manipulated to be a female to female gaze. On their
quest for a Christmas tree, Therese s gazes are followed by broken down, close up shots of Carol s
gloved hands on the steering wheel and red lips as she smile back at Therese. Then from the car,
Therese photographs Carol without her knowledge, the ultimate form of Mulvey s scopophilia, or
gaining pleasure by looking suggestively, however it does not derive from the herterosexual male s
perspective. Hayne s challenging of traditional depictions of sexuality in ... Show more content on

Conventional elements of sexualitiy in Carol are complicated further by the power dynamics between
Carol and Therese expressed through cinematographic elements. While Carol is wiser and more
experienced than Therese and is often framed with low angle shots making her appear large,
confident, and strong. The complexity of Carol s character is further explored as she simultaneously
appears as having power over Therese but is also the subject of Therese s objectifying gaze. Therese,
who is often captured through high angle shots giving viewers a sense of looking down on her, possess
a gaze which often frames Carol seductively as she photographs and stares at Carol flaunting her
feminine glamour and sexuality. Just as the scene in which they first met, Therese is often obscured,
hidden behind the lense of her camera, and Carol is the subject of awe, attention, and desire. In the
dark, Therese stares at Carol under her red covers as she sleeps. Through parts of her are obscured
throughout the film, Therese is the holder of Mulvey s powerful gaze and thus gives new meaning to

Modern Film Versions Of Cinderella
Cinderella is a fairy tale that has many different interpretations. This tale has also been made into
many films, advertisements, amongst other mediums. Although films and advertisements are very
different certain aspects can be brought together through the Brothers Grimm version as well as from a
gender and sociological standpoint. One of the more modern film versions of Cinderella is Ever After
starring Drew Barrymore. The film actually includes the brothers Grimm, whom have their own
version of Cinderella. The film follows what is supposedly the true story of Cinderella, named
Danielle. Her father marries and evil woman, she has two stepsisters only one of whom is evil , she

Qualitative Interview
The article titled learning to interview in the social sciences makes a valid point that as interviewers
we can never ensure what will happen during an interview. To some degree interviewing for the social
sciences and the purpose of research resembles clinical intake interviews. Both processes are in fact
reality constructing, meaning making occasions . In my opinion the qualitative interview while it may
develop a different ebb and flow than research specific qualitative interview, as they tend to have more
targeted overall research questions, they both have the same aim in mind; to collect, interpret, and
analysis data on some level. The findings obtained by the researchers in this study while valid they are

This article at times left me frustrated at its negative depiction of the qualitative interview and that of
the research experience for both interviews and interviewees. I don t think I agree with every
assumption stated by the authors but it did pin point how at times researchers are merely using their
interviewees but I know the same could be said for quantitative research; but as mentioned in a
previous articles, interviewees also benefit from this experience. As interviewers and researchers it is
true that we are making some private details public, we do so in hoping to benefit other individuals in
similar situations. While I understand the perspective on manipulation, every situation or circumstance
could be manipulated, as researchers we can at times be the manipulator or the ones being
manipulated. As the author stated this article was one sided and bias I believe further evidence or
experience is warranted to understand their point of

Essay about A Comparison of Two James Bond Posters
A Comparison of Two James Bond Posters
Dr No in 1962 was the first James Bond film released and The World Is Not Enough is one of the most
recent Bond films to have been released in 1999. The two film posters are distinctively different,
which would be expected as the films were released decades apart from eachother.
The first poster for Dr No shows that James Bond is a new, never seen before film as the logo 007 is
printed on the poster more than once in bold lettering, and the name James Bond is also printed,
whereas in the poster for the World Is Not Enough the 007 logo is only used once in small lettering
and James Bond is not used at all, because by this time the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This also may have something to do with the fact that in the 90 s, the first female head of MI5 was
introduced into the films.
The genre of the film is far more evident in the poster for The World Is Not Enough . The images used
connote an action film that has many different narratives. The poster is lively and eye catching and is
full of bright, vivid images. The poster fits in very well with the title of the film, as it looks like James
Bond is going to embark on some international mission, the image of some of the continents in flames
shows this. There are also several images circling around the main characters in the film, which look
futuristic and scientific and feature explosions and car chases. Comparing the two posters also shows
how technology and science has progressed through the decades and this is very apparent in the 1999
film poster, which looks far more advanced, as far as gadgets and weapons go.
The Dr No poster does not specify the genre so well. It could be for several different genres. It
indicates that it could possibly be a spy or mystery film, which is partly true of the James Bond
movies.
James Bond is shown in the Dr No film poster as a silhouette, it suggests that he could be a very

Government In Lord Of The Flies Research Paper
In Lord of the Flies, William Golding demonstrates the deterioration of society at an island where
there is no functioning government. The boys on the secluded island slowly becoming savages due to
the lack of a law making body to regulate and guide the individuals. Some people may argue that a
government is not necessary for the survival of a group of people sharing common traditions and
beliefs; however, it is imperative in order to prevent the downfall of society. First of all, a government
protects the rights of the people. Secondly, it establishes consequences for crimes and misdeeds, and
lastly, government maintains peace and order within society. Therefore, a strong, functioning
government is necessary for the survival of society. Firstly, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Several laws and regulations are put into place by the government to prevent humans from behaving
without caution. Without these laws, humans would engage in activities which could potentially harm
the community, slowly abolishing peace and order within society. At the beginning of Lord of the
Flies, Ralph takes charge and attempts to maintain order and peace on the island by conducting
meetings and assuming leadership. However, the absence of a legitimate government gradually
resulted in the boys turning into savages. Furthermore, it created conflicts between different characters
such as Jack and Ralph that could not be resolved in an orderly manner due to the lack of a strong law
making body. However, a society with an active government develops the necessary regulations
needed to establish justice amongst individuals. Several people may argue that many laws put forth by
the government do not promote peace; however, these regulations keep society organized by having a
systematic way to control people while also providing the peace and freedom citizens seek in society.
Without a strong government, people would not feel obligated to behave correctly, making it more
likely for them to break order and disrupt

The Development of Wireless Communication Leading to the Alexanderson Alternator
Not much has changed in human nature in the past couple centuries. When we want something, we
desire exactly what we want without deviation and we wish to have it quickly. This is as evident in
modern times as it was in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
It is difficult to imagine for the modern man, but there was once a time when messages and
information had to be delivered by hand, horseback or by vehicle. This was a very big problem in a
world that was expanding and evolving rapidly and was full of growing local and international
turmoil. The more the world began to expand, the harder it became to relay messages and information,

Orsted was dumbfounded about his discovery, but had no way of explaining how it was possible that
the electrical current had an effect on the magnetic needle of the compass. After reading about Orsted
s results, a man by the name of André Marie Ampère sought to find the reason for this occurrence and
what he discovered changed the field of electrical engineering forever. He demonstrated that when two
wires were placed parallel to one another, both carrying an electric current, they d either be attracted to
or repulsed by each other depending on which directions the currents were traveling. [4]. Ampere later
created what is known as Ampere s Law which relates electricity and magnetism.
So why was this relationship between electricity and magnetism so important to the field of electrical
information transmission? This question began to be answered by a man named Joseph Henry in 1830.
Intrigued by the recent innovation of electromagnetism, Henry decided to test its effectiveness in the
field of electrical transmission. Henry decided that if he passed current through one end of a
transmission wire he could use the current to activate an electromagnet at its opposite end. Henry
attached a bell to the electromagnet a mile from his current emission point and was able to ring the
bell by sending current through the line. [2] This telegraph system was brilliant, but Samuel Morse
saw even more potential in the model.

reflection on aseptic technique Essay
Reflective Log Aseptic Technique In this reflection I am going to discuss a procedure that I have
carried out whilst I have been on placement and the importance of infection control using the Aspetic
Non Touch Technique (ANTT). The procedure I am going to discuss is a dressing change to a leg
ulcer which took place during a routine home visit with the community nurse. I am going to use Gibbs
Model of Reflection (1988), to reflect on the experience and evaluate my thoughts and feelings of the
procedure, and to outline what I have gained from the experience for my future practice. After

Once the dressings were securely on and the procedure had been finished, I removed my apron and
gloves and disposed of them in the plastic bag, along with everything thing else I had used and then
washed my hands again. After leaving the patients home I discussed my practical experience with the
Nurse who informed me that I although I had carried out the procedure well it was actually carried out
using a clinically clean technique rather than the Aseptic Non Touch Technique as I had thought. As I
had used the same gloves to remove the dirty dressings from the leg ulcer and then apply new sterile
dressings I had not maintained the Aseptic Non Touch Technique. The Nurse informed me that this
was perfectly suitable for the procedure I carried out as the wound was still kept as clean as possible
and dressings and equipment used were sterile. Whilst carrying out the procedure I felt confident with
my practice of the dressing change using the Aseptic technique. Although I was slightly nervous and
self conscious as I was aware that the trained Nurse was observing me, I felt that this did not come
across in my body language or my practice. When the Nurse told me that I was not using the Aseptic
Non Touch Technique I felt unsure of the whole process which then led to me re evaluating my
practice within this area. The Lincolnshire Community Health Service (LCHS)

Foil In The Importance Of Being Earnest
The core of Oscar Wilde s The Importance of Being Earnest lies within the play long pun that is
conveniently introduced in the very title of it. The most important twist in the entire book is not only
is no one being earnest, but no one in the book is actually named Ernest! It follows two characters, the
protagonist and his foil, and primarily focuses on their opinions on the world that they live in. The two
characters whom bunbury their way through town/the country in order to escape the responsibilities
they have waiting for them at home. These two characters masquerade around with seemingly nothing

that marrying an Ernest is the most important thing to her. Jack? ...No, there is very little music in the
name Jack, if any at all, indeed. It does not thrill. It produces absolutely no vibrations...I have known
several Jacks, and they all, without exception, were more than usually plain. Besides, Jack is a
notorious domesticity for John! And I pity any woman who is married to a man called John. She
would probably never be allowed to know the entrancing pleasure of a single moment s solitude. The
only really safe name is Ernest. she says after Jack tries to tell her that his name is not Ernest, but she
ends up rendering the feat impossible by showing us that she is just so in love that it is a resonating
sound that rings from the name Ernest that rocks her to the core with vibrations. Cecily is no different,
after an extensive conversation with Algernon about whether or not she actually likes the name
Algernon(she didn t), she says to him I might respect you, Ernest, I might admire your character, but I
fear that I should not be able to give you my undivided attention. Cecily s character is there to mirror
Gwendolen, just as Algernon is to mirror Jack, so to speak, she also expresses very little care for
anything other than the name of Ernest. Algernon and Jack are left with no other

March 19th is celebrated as the Feast of St. Joseph. It began in the Middle Ages when there was a
drought in Sicily. The desperate people living there asked Joseph for rain in exchange for a huge meal
in his honor. Of course, the rains came and the land was thriving again. In keeping their promise, the
people prepared an enormous feast, beginning the tradition of the St. Joseph s Table and giving food to
the less fortunate. Today, many churches and organizations still host St. Joseph s Tables, in which
parishioners or members prepare and donate large amounts of food, all meat less items. The Italians do
believe in the supernatural. Many general supernatural beliefs of the Catholic Church are intertwined
with older beliefs. An example is Sicily, in which, Arabic and Greek influences have blended with
popular Spanish beliefs and been incorporated into Catholicism. They have beliefs in the evil eye,
charms, spells, messages through dreams, and various other types of omens. They believed in witches
with powers and anti witches. Many of the beliefs have died out with the knowledge of the modern
age. The people of the capital of Italy, Rome, do not believe in one single all powerful god. Instead,
they believe in many. To the Romans, religion was less a spiritual experience than a contractual
relationship between humanity and the forces controlling the existence of people. Some Italians

Propaganda In Ww1 Essay
Prior to 1914 to 1918, Americans followed the idealism of isolationist to remain neutral in foreign
wars and affairs. During World War I, propaganda was used to influence exit isolationism, change
America s views on immigrants, and keep Americans participating and fighting in the war.
Propaganda was used to directly appeal to the emotions and patriotism of many Americans, willing
them to join the war. It was also used to express America s ever changing ideas of immigrants, such as
the Japanese in California. All the while, propaganda still showed what control the American
government had over what its people consumed in their everyday life.Through the four year time

Waimanalo Research Paper
The key geological features played a significant role in creating Waimanalo. Waimanalo was formed
by a catastrophic landslide from the Nuuanu Pali all the way down to the coast and to the ending of
Makapu`u. Under the water lay debris and material from this landslide. In the 1960 s, the US Navy
first found out about this information by a single beam sonar surveying a utilized improved radio
navigation system. In the 1980 s, a multibeam side scan sonar, GLORIA, imaged in unprecedented

the first time. Waimanalo was created by a catastrophic landslide that happened millions of years ago.

Jazz Music In West Side Story And Romeo And Juliet
In my essay I am going to bring up three different topics. How jazz music makes West Side Story be
evocative of the decade in which it was written, how gang related music would change West Side
Story and Romeo and Juliet, and further how different Romeo and Juliet would be if they would of
sang rather than spoke their soliloquy. Each of these topics has gang related actions and how music
defines the gangs.
In West Side Story both Acts 1 and 2 are mostly instrumental, allowing suspense to form in each
scene. In the 1950 s, gangs are growing more and more. With West Side Story being in New York,
there were the Jets and the Sharks. Jazz music help bring out the actions in each of the two gangs and
helps bring out each of the characters and shows who they really are. In Tonight, the characters are
reflecting on their hopes and dreams. Bernstein crafted the music to mirror the visions of each
character. Jazz music helps build suspense in many scenes in West Side Story, for instance, in The
Gangs Fight in the Street, the music starts to become allegro and the snaps of their fingers build the
suspense even more. The jazz helps show the differences in each gang and how their actions are like
that of the sounds of jazz orchestra. West Side Story also has classical and pop music played
throughout it, and at certain instances all three can be heard together. At the very end of the musical,
the music become piano; and the hurt and anger from Maria is radiated from the music choice.

The Greatest Physical Of Sports
People love to watch, play, and enjoy sports or cheering for teams. In the majority of sports that are
physical and require a lot of contact that could potentially cause injuries. The most physical of sports
such as hockey, soccer, football, and boxing can make the people who care about them worried for
their health. Some people don t understand that the helmet the players wear don t always prevent the
athletes from getting concussions or the fracture of your skull. You can get a concussion by having
your brain constantly hit your skull. The NFL should take more necessary precautions every time a
player suffers from damage. There is are diseases called CTE which means chronic traumatic
encephalopathy players get playing that turn into medical bills need to be paid for by the NFL because
players often are pressured to ignore the symptoms of a concussion and go back out to play. Players
should be aware of the consequences and risk that can occur when they make these decisions. I
believe that they should study about what can actually happen to their health so that they can prevent
getting concussions and acknowledge the negative effects.
These days most athletes worry about how big their pay checks going to be than actually caring what s
on the scoreboard. A good of players know that if they aren t actually playing the game then they are
not getting paid. If they always keep this concept in their heads than most players will most likely not

Interview With Sign Language
On December 2 Mrs. Hover came in and we interviewed her through sign language. I was the first
group to go up and I was nervous because I was worried I d mess up, forget my sign language or not
be understood. Mrs. Hover asked us our name and I signed Sabrina with no hesitation or problem.
After a minute I was more comfortable signing and wasn t nervous anymore. I asked Mrs. Hover if
she was in any Deaf clubs and I was surprised with her answer because, she stated that she wasn t in
any and that she didn t like Deaf clubs. I was surprised because I expected her to love them or be in
more than one Deaf club. I tried to ask her what it was like to raise a deaf son, but I had trouble

The gymnastics and raise sign, in my opinion, were iconic. Pizza had many sign, but my favorite was
the one you sign on your face. When I asked her how to sign band she asked what instrument I played
and I finger spelled clarinet; therefore, she showed me the sign for clarinet and the sign for clarinet
was an iconic sign.
I thought it was funny when William asked her do you drive because she yelled Really! and looked at
Mrs. Riggs who laughed. I also thought it was funny when her son asked her if she drives and she told
him how did you get here . At the end she let us choose two suckers, which I thought was very sweet.
Overall I really enjoyed signing with her because I thought she signed very clear, she wasn t impatient
and she could speak very well. I wouldn t mind if we had to interview or talk with her again. I think it
is extraordinary how deaf people can be great friends with hearing people because even though there
so different they still get along. Also in the past people wouldn t be friends with deaf people because
they all believed they would perish in hell since they couldn t hear the word of God. I also think it is
amazing how a deaf female could be such a great mother to her hearing child because, she has to teach
the important things of life without commutating as much as hearing

Jack London s White Fang Quotes
In the novel, White Fang by Jack London, the main character, White Fang, is quarter dog and three
quarters wolf. He is wild for the first part of the book, but when he encounters an Indian tribe they
take him in along with his mother. There, he is sold and separated from his mother and moves to San
Francisco. In the novel, White Fang, a goal changed the life of White Fang, but not the world.
But it could not last long (18).
One evening, Henry, White Fangs owner at the time, was getting rushed a wolf pack. They were all
about and upon him. One wolf had bit his arm. He ran through the fire and when he leaped, he felt a
wolf tear his leg flesh. His stout mittens protected his hands for a little and he threw live coals into the
air until the campfire looked like a volcano. This quote comes about because he had dreamed that this
firefight wouldn t last long, and it didn t. That didn t impact the world, just him. White Fang had to do
whatever he could do and whatever he could understand to help Henry.
...and this one was not destined to live long (75). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

is from. The environment around this area was harsh and hot, thus he said that it wouldn t live long. If
White Fang were to hope that it would live long, then he would have helped the wolf but he didn t so
he didn t dream about it. This changed the book because if he were to help that wolf, I infer that it

1. Is the framework explicitly presented or must it be extracted from the literature review? Identify the
framework used. No, the framework is not presented and it needs to be extracted from the
methodology or the research design of the research paper on pain management.
In the research design the articles, the conceptual framework is explained in details where the
dependent and the independent variables are well stated. It is established that, menstrual pain
management is the dependent variable and the independent variables in the research are the impacts of
pain, knowledge of the patients, self efficacy and coping with pain. The pain coping involves pain
coping strategies and pain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Does the framework describe and define the concepts of interest?
Yes, the framework describes the concepts of interest well. Each variable in question is well described
with the questionnaire entries discussed and interpreted for each of the independent variables.
3. Does the framework present the relationships among the concepts? Is a map or model of the
framework provided for clarity?
The framework presented does not explain the relationship among the independent variables
themselves. It explains more about each variable specifically with no explanations about how each
independent variable relate to the other. However, the relationship between the dependent and the
independent variables is partially explained in the framework. The framework flow chart is not drawn
in the research but only a presentation of the outcomes due to the researches secondary and primary
variables is represented in a diagram
4. Are the concepts in the framework linked to the study variables?
Yes the concept is linked with the study variable because it s true that knowledge, impact of pain, self
efficacy and coping with pain affect the menstrual pain management.

Four Examples Of Laws Or Regulations That Affect Fire...
Four examples of laws or regulations that affect fire service managers and their employees. Patrick
Latham Columbia Southern University Abstract There are a multitude of laws and regulations that
provide guidance to managers and employees as to what their rights and responsibilities are in the
workplace. These laws and regulations originate from all three branches of government and
enforcement occurs at the local, state, and federal level. As firefighters, it is incumbent upon us to be
aware of these laws and regulations and to be aware that we can be held civilly as well as criminally
responsible for our actions. In the following paper, we will examine four cases where firefighters or
fire agencies failed to be cognizant of this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The EEOC investigated and attempted to resolve the matter without filing a lawsuit, but the fire
district was adamant in their denial that any discrimination took place against the firefighters (Long
Island Newsday, 2008). Prior to trial, the Easton s Neck Fire District decided to settle the case with the
EEOC and agreed to make retroactive payments to the firefighters. There is no reason given as to why
the fire district decided to settle but even a cursory examination of the Age Discrimination in
Employment Act (ADEA) shows that the district would not have prevailed in court. This federal law
plainly states that workers age 40 and over are protected from age discrimination and by denying
pension or retirement benefits based on age the fire district was in violation (EEOC, 2009). The
second case we are going to look at concerns a failure to act lawsuit brought against the Washington
DC fire and EMS and the city s former medical director for the death of a patient that was
misdiagnosed by the department s paramedics as to have been suffering from acid reflux when in
reality he was suffering cardiac failure. The suit further alleges that not only did the paramedics fail to
diagnose his condition, they failed to warn him that his signs and symptoms could be of a more
serious condition. (Varone, DC Fire and EMS Sued for $17 million Heart Attack not Acid Reflux,

My Story Of Hyper-Flexibility
Hyper flexibility. At the time my sister was diagnosed with it, she was ten and I was nine. As the
doctor said the word to my parents, I sat there confused, wondering what it meant. I looked over to my
mother for an explanation; she smiled kindly and said, It just means that your sister is a bit more
flexible and can do some things you may not be able to. At the time I didn t realize how much of an
impact that sentence would have on me. My sister and I are only a year, two months, and sixteen days
apart. Over the years, this made us very close and we developed similar behaviors, often giving the
illusion that we are twins. However, when it came to knowledge and experience, our age difference
created a fissure that could not be seen but clearly separated us, as she was always ahead in her
education, always given more grown up privileges, and always ahead in physical and mental
accomplishments. Even when I attempted the same things she did, my accomplishments were
lackluster when compared to hers. In theory, I understood why it seemed to be this way, she had
simply done it first, but deep down I was furious. I was angry that she got all the attention because of
our birth order, and her hyper flexibility was the straw that broke the camel s back. ... Show more

Dallas Museum of Art s party that was held by J.D. Grissom, the leader of the Fifty first Nome. We
had gone to warn him about the lord of chaos, Apophis, and how he planned to find an artifact, destroy

the main party was being held and warned him of the upcoming threat. He didn t seem to believe us at

gotten to his main head, while others were fighting other parts of him deep in the Duat. Along with us,
Zia who was hosting the sun god Ra was shooting fire balls at Apophis. It was a crazy mess

chaos burrowing into my bones, and killing me from the inside out. For a split second, Zia got

Instantly the Sun disappeared and everything got really dark and cold. The only thing illuminating the
area was the red glow of Apophis. Seeing Zia swallowed down by Apophis filled me with so much
anger, I blacked out. Sadie says that I lashed out with the crook and flail, leaving wounds that didn t
heal. I don t remember any of that. All I remember is seeing Apophis with two steaming wounds
across him, oozing the blood of chaos. Then Sadie and I cast the shadow execration and banished him

Naco Culture Of Fear Essay
When reporting on terrorism, the media function as a double edged sword. They assure terrorists that
their grievances will receive public attention; yet they also can mobilize public opinion against the
arbitrary use of violence by stripping terrorism of its romantic veneer and exposing its violent
underpinnings to public scrutiny.20 The proposed general industry guidelines should minimize the
harms from publicizing terrorist events while maximizing the speech interests vital to a democratic
society (Moffitt, 1998). In previous decades, the journalistic mission was to report the news as it
actually happened, with fairness, balance, and integrity; Profit gaining motives associated with
journalism have forced much of today s television news to look to the spectacular, the stirring, and the
controversial as news stories. It s no longer a race to break the story first or get the facts right. Instead,
it s to acquire good ratings in order to get advertisers, so that profits soar. The goals of terrorists are
not solely confined to winning the attention of the masses. In addition to that, through the media, they
aim to publicize their political causes, inform both friends and foes about the motives for terrorist
deeds, and explain their rationale for resorting to violence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What exactly is the culture of fear and how does it affect the way that the public reacts to acts of
terrorism? One fundamental characteristic within a culture of fear is narrow mindedness. The media
has contributed to this atmosphere of intolerance by over reporting the September 11th attacks.
People cannot think clearly when they are afraid. As numerous studies have shown, fear is the enemy
of reason. It distorts emotions and perceptions, and often leads to poor decisions. For people who have
suffered trauma, fear messages can sometimes trigger uncontrollable flight or fight responses with
dangerous ramifications (Hazen,

They result in a change in the structure resulting in hydrophobic proteins, these new prions congregate
with other PrPsc proteins resulting in plaque or aggregation on the neuron.
Prions (PrPsc) influence the PrPc proteins they come in contact with to misfold and begin to
aggregate. The aggregation leads to development of fibers or plaques. The aggregation of PrPsc
around the neurons triggers the cell to self destruct. It is also able to spread to nearby neurons resulting
in areas of neuronal death which results in the brain tissue having spaces of void which appear like a
sponge. J. Thompson (2014)
2. In a healthy cell floating in the cytoplasm are proteins we refer to as chaperones because they
instruct or guide the folding of younger proteins. They guide them through the folding process
resulting in perfectly structured protein. That performs its function as it should. When chaperones go
bad aka Prions, as is the case in Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE), we see the wide spread
destruction that can occur when mutations in the folding occur. In Bovine Spongiform
Encephalopathy the PrPsc protein acts as a chaperone and influences the PrPc protein it comes in
contact with, to misfold which results in a new structure this new form iis hydrophobic (PrPsc). As
these proteins form they aggregate with other PrPsc proteins. As the PrPsc proteins aggregate they

How Hockney Changed Photography
David Hockney experimented heavily with photo collage in 1982 1987, creating works of art called
joiners. Joiners accidentally occurred when he was working on one of his paintings of his living room
and terrace in Los Angeles, as he took Polaroid shots of the living room and glued them together as a
preparatory work, not intending for them to build a composition of their own. Upon this finding he
enjoyed the final composition and he realised that he could take this somewhere and he began to work
more and more with composition and Polaroid photographs.
Being very interested with this work and he would take a series of photographs selected carefully and
arranging them in the right way, Hockney was able to change the shapes and the space within ... Show

So he takes more as everything changes over time and he finds it very hard to stick with one picture. I
feel that sometimes when doing these kind of photographs Hockney has pushed the boundaries and
has expanded on the possibilities that the art can be presented in the same way using different
technology and is now see as Cubism and an abstract style of modern art.
Hockney developed the ability to take an ordinary scene and develop it through photographs and paint
into something incredibly pleasing for the viewers to appreciate. Hockney is able to develop such
scenes immediately earned Hockney a place among contemporary artists of his time.
Other people have become so interested in his work that they have started to produce their own
photographs and sometimes the technique and media are used on movie posters and or album posters.
The technique of Joiners is very much more important now than it was back then. But I do really
enjoy his work and I feel very strongly about the technique myself.
Whilst this photograph is physically larger than what he us used to and produces, his work is an
abstraction in a combination with minimalism, with such a combination of which Hockney is able to
move closer to the world of art. Hockney s work is very popular and inspires everyone to try out the
technique and also comes under part of the cubism

Themes In Clybourne Park And Water By The Spoonful
Themes are one of the most vital and critical elements of a play s overall significance and meaning.
Without identifying what tools a playwright uses to construct his/her play through a close reading,
such as language, character, or setting, the audience would lack a clear vision of the particular play s
meaning. In the case of Clybourne Park, by Bruce Norris, and Water by the Spoonful, by Quiara
Alegria Hudes, race can be identified as a theme in both, through the use of literary devices, however
it is explored much more subtly in Water by the Spoonful. Race is the major underlying theme in
Clybourne Park, while the themes of community and addiction are dealt with in Water by the
Spoonful. Nevertheless, each play is complete with examples ... Show more content on

Karl s language in this quote, as in the previous, shows his character believes the black race should be
separate from the white community, as he feels they are not equal. He reiterates this when he
ignorantly says, ... fitting into a community is really what it all comes down to (64). Karl s character
evidently proves the theme of race. Here the audience receives a reference to the theme of community.
With the racism of the 1950 s comes the clear divide between the white and black community,
however, the sense that there is still a divide remains in 2009, in the second act.
The racism continues with another white male character, Jim, who pressures black housekeeper,
Francine into admitting that her family and herself would not fit in or feel comfortable living in a
white community. Jim asks, Would this be the sort of neighborhood you d find an attractive place in
which to live? (70). Francine avoids confrontation and simply states, It s a very nice neighborhood
(70). Her use of language is polite, as she does not want to start an argument. Instead of admitting they
would not fit into such a community, as Jim was probing her to admit, she remains calm. Francine
even agrees that there are differences between the two races, and that they live differently, saying in
reply to Jim, I agree with that (73). Rather, Francine may just be giving Jim the answer he wants. She
knows that if she opposes his opinion, she will gain nothing.

Dual Language Education And Education
Even though Brown v. Board of Education ruled segregation in schools unconstitutional, it exists in a
different form today. While the most students in schools are in normal classes, English Language
Learners are often separated from the rest of the student body. These students, mostly hispanic
immigrants, are put in special classes separate from the main student body where they are given
special English instruction. They rarely interact with the main student body, and it often seems that
they go to a different school. Dual Language Education solves this problem. In Dual Language

The goal of Dual Language Education is that students not only become bilingual and have high
reading and writing levels in both languages but also that they discover and appreciate other cultures.
In almost all DLE programs, the partner language is the language of instruction for fifty to ninety
percent of the time, depending on the program. As stated in the article, The Balancing Act Of
Bilingual Immersion by Samina Hadi Tabassum, there are three types of ways to divide instruction.
The first most common way is division by time. In this method, students spend part of their time
learning in one language and then switch over to the the other language. This is done by spending half
the day in each language, alternating days, or alternating weeks. The second method used is division
by content. In this method, the languages are divided based on subject, with each subject being taught
in a specific language. For example, in the French American School in Providence RI, middle
schoolers learn math English, science, and their elective in English and French, social studies,
Spanish, art, music, physical education, and health in French (Murphy). Finally, the third method is
division by staff, in which one teacher teaches English and the other teaches the partner language. This
method can be and often is combined with one of the first two methods. The International Charter
School in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, uses the first and third methods. Students rotate between

Essay about Not Really The Working Poor in Nickel and Dimed
Barbara Ehrenreich would make a bad representative of the working poor because she lacks three
major things that a woman of that class would actually possess. Ehrenreich doesn t meet the true
qualifications of a working class woman: she lacks the background, she lacks respect of the money she
earns, and she lacks certain personal or social qualities that ordinarily are possessed by the working
poor.
Ehrenreich is part of the upper middle class; she is privileged to have a job in which she makes money
by sitting at her desk and writing (E 2). She has never considered herself one of the working poor

another person. That other person isn t just another body, it s another contributing wage. [My
coworkers] live with spouses or grown children or they have other jobs in addition to this one (E 178).
The wear and tear of simply having to deal with relationships and to live with another person, not
always just a spouse or family member, but sometimes a friend or simply a coworker, is something
Ehrenreich does not have to endure.
The second trait that I find Ehrenreich lacks is a certain respect of money that one of the working class
would possess. One of the first examples I saw of this was when she bought her uniform pants in
Florida for Jerry s. Then there is the $30 I had to spend on the regulation tan slacks worn by Jerry s
servers a setback it could take weeks to absorb (E 39). This foolish decision on buying pants at $30 is
not something a working poor woman would do. Alyssa at Wal Mart proves this: That afternoon,

any chance it might fall still further? (E 159). I also see that she is rather careless with her money

Huns Facts
The Huns are best known to be barbaric, or cruel, group that tore down villages and killed people that
got in their way of what they wanted. All people were afraid of the Huns because they were really
mean and destroyed everything when they attacked places. Historians are not sure exactly where the
Huns came from or what language they spoke, but the Huns did not let anyone or anything get in their
way of what they wanted. The exact origin of the Huns is not exactly known, but history shows that
the Huns lived in Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, and Central Asia. They were present between the 1st
century and the 7th century. The Huns were nomads of the Central Asian Steppes. They appeared right

when they went into battle and shot many arrows at once. Then, they turned and shot their bows

horses very well. The important Huns wore armor to protect themselves; the regular warriors did not
have any armor. All warriors had a shield and a helmet and they had a composite bow and some had
swords and lances. Sometimes they would have other weapons that they fought with. One of the other
weapons they used was a net. They used nets to throw over their enemies, when they were close, and

The Biological Causes For Serial Killers
Introduction: This investigation examines the biological causes for serial killers psychopathic
tendencies and examines those same biological factors in both men and women to find the correlation
between a higher rate of male serial killers and the biology behind their actions. It is imperitave to first
know what a serial killer is, and what makes them such a cold fish. There are sections of the brain that
do have control over a human being s personality, where that individual can either develop into an
average person or join the other one percent of psychopaths living in the world today (due to physical
damage or chemical imbalance in the brain). These specific sections of the brain are different in males
then in females, some components of the brain vary in size etc. between sexes. It is crucial to have all
these pieces, with this information its then possible to form a conlusion to the surfaced question. To
stretch ones knowledge and understanding of serial killers a necasssary source is the Encyclopedia of
Serial Killers, second edition by Micheal Newton , which gives detailed insight on the worlds most
infamous serial killers and their tactics, not including other informative articles sited later on in the
analysis. In addition to that source, another applicable book would be The Emotional Brain by Joseph
LeDoux, assisting in learning the physical structures of the brain that control ones emotions and
motivations, as well as the male brain versus the females.

With past conflicts with the Spanish and Asian countries, it is apparent that the Filipinos have picked
up a number of their tendencies along with their culture. The weather of the Philippines has had a
substantial effect on population, agriculture, smuggling, and insurgency. With an average of seventy
four degrees Fahrenheit year round; mean summer the highs stay around one hundred degrees with the
winters only dropping forty eight degrees Fahrenheit. The Philippines had a population growth rate of
1.51% in 2017, which is one of the highest in the Asian countries. The weather has also helped with
agriculture. With its main agricultural crops, rice, corn, coconut, sugarcane, bananas, pineapple,
coffee, mangoes, tobacco, and abaca (which is a banana like plant), the Philippines thrives with
agriculture. Smuggling has always been a huge problem. In 2012, According to the International
Monterey Fund s Direction of Trade Statistics, the value of smuggling reached $19.6 billion.
Insurgencies in the Philippines go as far back as the Spanish rule in the 1800 s. Ongoing insurgencies
date back to the 1940 s with farmers and landlords, government power struggles, communistic views,
and of course religion. The areas, structures, capabilities, organizations, people, and events I will
cover are significant to military counterinsurgency operations. The areas and structures most
significant to insurgency, in my opinion, would be Manila and the surrounding cities due to

Violent Conflict And Thechallenge Of Food Security Essay
VIOLENT CONFLICT AND THECHALLENGE OF FOOD SECURITY IN NORTH EAST
NIGERIA BY
MOTUBOMA THOMAS
Department of Political Administrative Studies (International Relations)
University of Port Harcourt,
Port Harcourt, Nigeria ABSTRACT
This research work sought to examine the effect of violent conflict and the challenge of food security
in the North Eastern region of Nigeria as well as its effects on other part of the country and
neighbouring countries. Emphasis was placed on analysing the relationship between violence and
agricultural productivity and investments in the region using contextual analysis based on both
primary and secondary data. The theoretical perspective that was adopted is the frustration aggression
theory which states that people will always resort to violence/aggression whenever they are
excessively frustrated. This theory was therefore employed to understand causes of the problem of
violent conflict in the North East. It was established that violent conflict has caused a lot of problems
for the people living in that region most especially with regards tofood security since most of the
inhabitants of this region are subsistence farmers and since they have been displaced, cannot cultivate
their farms to feed themselves. The study recommends that government should tackle the root cause of
violent conflict and strengthen the fight against insurgency in order to bring lasting peace to the
region. The study also suggested that the economy should be highly

Personality Type
My personality type is INFP according to (citation of website), they describe this type as the true
idealist always looking for the hint of good in even the worst of people and events, searching for ways
to make things better. While they may be perceived as calm, reserved, or even shy, INFPs have an
inner flame and passion that can truly shine. (citation) this resonates with me because I do see myself
as an idealist and I feel that it is my idealism that allows me to communicate as I do despite being an

Animal welfare officers make on average $23.90/hr in Canada, although this depends on location and
education level. Although the education requirement for applying to be an animal welfare officer is a
high school diploma, university degrees in an animal related field are beneficial and will result in a
higher starting wage. There is a certification program for animal welfare officers, however, this is not
required to become an animal welfare officer.
The Skills Required
Most of the technicals required are animal handling. Communication skills are very important for
animal welfare officers because they work with people who are already at high levels of emotional
stress and are potentially dangerous. They need to be able to very level headed, have good
interpersonal skills and be very empathetic to others. Most importantly the need to have a love of
animals. Professionally the working conditions can be very difficult as they must be able to deal with
potentially dangerous animals and people, they also have to witness animal cruelty which can be very
emotionally taxing. (Cite all of this

Sociology Chapter Summary
In chapter 7 of our text, Sociology, A Brief Introduction by Richard Schaefer, social control is
discussed. According to the text, Social control is defined as techniques and strategies for preventing
deviant human behavior in any society (Schaefer, 159). An example used in the text to explain this
concept was informal norms such as dress codes introduced by peer groups in order to, govern the
behavior of their members (Schaefer, 159). Within society, a term that is commonly known as
deviance stems from social control. Deviance is exhibiting behavior that violates the standards of
conduct or expectations of a group or society (Schaefer. 165). Deviant behavior goes against the social
norms of society. One current event that has brought

How The French Presidential Elections Will Affect The...
How the French Presidential Elections will Affect the Entire World
After rejecting the two major political parties in the first round, the French voters will choose their
new president. What will the election result mean for the world?
After the Brexit results in the UK and Trump s election in the US, France is next to face the challenge
of elections on May the 7th for their second round. Debating the subject is William Callanan, 45, an
American citizen living in Britain for the last 15 years and partner at Keysquare Capital Management.
He agreed in an interview to share his opinion on how the French elections will have a major impact
across the world. But first, let s meet the candidates.
Who are the candidates and what is their plan ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Callanan thinks Macron will align with Fillon on the centre right, making Le pen garner less votes,
suggesting the first round s outcome is an indication of what the ending bias will likely be.
Will a new president be the end of old politics in France? Just over a month after the new president
will be elected, she/he will start building their coalition in the Assembly Nationale. It will be a real
challenge for both, says Callanan as a new party has never gained a majority. He paused. But Macron
has a better chance than Le Pen.
One important issue that the new president will need to address is on the national security, as terrorist
attacks are at their peek right now in France. While Le Pen is focused on immigration, Macron is
focused on adding 50,000 police and specialised training. When asked who will appeal more to the
public, Callanan said people become more accustomed to these events and the shock effect is
mitigated. Think of what it is like living in Beirut...
Will Le Pen s claim of deporting all foreigners suspected of a connection to radical Islamism make
France safer? Definitely not, replied Mr. Callanan, on the contrary, the anti immigration and anti Islam
stance can be taken too far and be counter productive.
Le Pen has said that France should be less naive as it became a jihadi university. Will her presidency
affect the relations with the Middle East? Which key policies should France pursue in the Middle

Synthesis And Characterization Of Aspirin
Organic Chemistry 322 Lab Report
Part I. Synthesis and Characterization of Aspirin
Part II. Extraction of Natural Products
Name: Bianca Davis
Instructor: Dr. Russell
Date Submitted: December 8, 2014 Introduction Aspirin is a substance known as acetylsalicylic acid.
It is used mainly as an over the counter drug used to relieve inflammation, pain, and fever. Its natural
form is salicylic acid. This synthesis process requires the acetylation of salicylic acid with acetic
anhydride. The purpose of this lab is to synthesize and purify aspirin. We also characterized the aspirin
via melting point, iron (III) chloride test, pH test, and thin layer chromatography. The synthesized
aspirin successfully produced a 65.38% yield.

were then gently swirled and transported to the hot water bath created earlier. The heat from the water
bath and occasional mixing of the contents quickly dissolved the powder contents. The flask was then
removed and combined with 40mL of cold distilled water. The flask was then placed into an ice bath
to create a slush like substance. A vacuum filtration system was assembled and the slush was washed
three times with distilled water. The product was left to dry in lab drawer for seven

Advantage And Disadvantages Of Globalisation
Globalisation
Globalisation is the emerging inter connectedness of the world due to the integration of trade and
communication technologies across international borders, which allows for socio cultural
developments as a result of the increase in everyday internet use, as well as the interaction between
people, companies and governments of different natures. Globalisation can also be seen as the
internationalisation of design due to the free movements of products, services and assets, which
enabled products to be planned, assembled and distributed in completely different countries.
Globalisation is not a new concept, but many believe that the rate of globalisation has increased
dramatically in the last few years. This is mainly due to two developments. Governments have
initiated free market economies which decrease the number of barriers standing in the way of
international trade and investment and technology has provided people with new tools to identify
opportunities, analyse trends, transfer assets and communicate with partners in different countries.
Globalisation ensures that there is a greater variety of products that are more readily available across
the world and promotes a decrease in poverty, as international factories will need to be run by
employees that live in that area. Globalisation also promotes a transfer of skills, as technologies,
techniques and materials can be introduced to countries that had not yet been exposed to them.
However, globalisation may

Response To The Lottery
The story takes place in a village on June 27 where The Lottery began. Citizens of the village started
gathering around a box, filled with slips of paper. Already in the second paragraph of the story, it
hinted, Bobby Martin already stuffed his pockets full of stones , the action starts from the beginning as
to what are they going to do with those stones. The story describes how everyone is acting normal and
how they are just talking and laughing like they usually do. I think that even though they gave a hint
that the stoning will happen, there was still a hint before that quote. Just by the genre and how the title
is the Lottery it can either go really bad or really good. Jackson foreshadows this ending by telling the
reader about the stones in piles and pockets that people are protecting. He confuses the reader by
telling that everyone is talking and laughing like it was a normal day so you have to read on ... Show

There can be a different meaning to the word win , in their eyes in which it could mean, to secure as a
result of a contest . This example shows that the author uses a play on words so that it misleads you to
think it s an actual lottery. Since it is a dark genre and the story is called the lottery it gives the
impression that only one person or group will be chosen for something bad. The story is mainly
focused on a village where people choose a winner through a box that has slips of paper. These slips
of paper symbolize the equality among the villagers, in which they all have the same amount of a
chance to be stoned. This method was used back in ancient times and they still use it in the modern
day. The reason why is because of how they are so used to it that it has become a habit. No one wants
to step and say that they don t want to do it is because everyone else wants to and they don t care until

cypermethrin, cis cyfluthrin, S fenvalerate, fenpropathrin and cyhalothrin against
P. gossypiella and E. insulana. They stated that, all insecticides gave a high degree of control against
cotton bollworms and the treatment increased the yield of cotton significantly over the control, with s
fenvalerate being the best treatment. Aref (1997) evaluated the efficiency of integrated pest
management programs against cotton bollworms under field conditions. The author stated that,
dursban was more effective against bollworms than kindo or larvainand no clear correlations were
found between moth catches and flower infestation. Sharaf (2003) at
El Mansoura, evaluated the field efficiency of insecticides against P. gossypiella and E. insulana
infesting cotton plants. The author tested three chemical insecticides groups, four pyrethroids, two
organophosphates and one carbamate. Tested pyrethroids were the most effective which induced the
highest percentage of reduction in bollworms larvae population, followed by carbamate and
organophosphorous insecticides. The sequence of dursban, kendo

Data Encryption Essay
ENCRYPTION Introduction Often there has been a need to protect information from prying eyes . In
the electronic age, information that could otherwise benefit or educate a group or individual can also
be used against such groups or individuals. Industrial espionage among highly competitive businesses
often requires that extensive security measures be put into place. And, those who wish to exercise their
personal freedom, outside of the oppressive nature of governments, may also wish to encrypt certain
information to avoid suffering the penalties of going against the wishes of those who attempt to
control. Still, the methods of data encryption and decryption are relatively straightforward, and easily
mastered. I have been doing data ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But, by the use of more than one translation table, especially when implemented in a pseudo random
order, this adaptation makes code breaking relatively difficult. An example of this method might use
translation table A on all of the even bytes, and translation table B on all of the odd bytes. Unless a
potential code breaker knows that there are exactly 2 tables, even with both source and encrypted data
available the deciphering process is relatively difficult. Similar to using a translation table, data
repositioning lends itself to use by a computer, but takes considerably more time to accomplish. A
buffer of data is read from the input, then the order of the bytes (or other chunk size) is rearranged,
and written out of order . The decryption program then reads this back in, and puts them back in order
. Often such a method is best used in combination with one or more of the other encryption methods
mentioned here, making it even more difficult for code breakers to determine how to decipher your
encrypted data. As an example, consider an anagram. The letters are all there, but the order has been
changed. Some anagrams are easier than others to decipher, but a well written anagram is a brain
teaser nonetheless, especially if it s intentionally misleading. My favorite methods, however, involve
something that only computers can do: word/byte rotation and XOR bit masking. If you

  • 2. Mulvey s Gaze From a cinematography perspective, elements of Mulvey s essay persist throughout the film, specifically, the idea of the male gaze upon females who are meant to be looked at. However, in line with the homosexual themes in Carol, this gaze is manipulated to be a female to female gaze. On their quest for a Christmas tree, Therese s gazes are followed by broken down, close up shots of Carol s gloved hands on the steering wheel and red lips as she smile back at Therese. Then from the car, Therese photographs Carol without her knowledge, the ultimate form of Mulvey s scopophilia, or gaining pleasure by looking suggestively, however it does not derive from the herterosexual male s perspective. Conventional elements of sexualitiy in Carol are complicated further by the power dynamics between Carol and Therese expressed through cinematographic elements. While Carol is wiser and more experienced than Therese and is often framed with low angle shots making her appear large, confident, and strong. The complexity of Carol s character is further explored as she simultaneously appears as having power over Therese but is also the subject of Therese s objectifying gaze. Therese, who is often captured through high angle shots giving viewers a sense of looking down on her, possess a gaze which often frames Carol seductively as she photographs and stares at Carol flaunting her feminine glamour and sexuality. Just as the scene in which they first met, Therese is often obscured, hidden behind the lense of her camera, and Carol is the subject of awe, attention, and desire. In the dark, Therese stares at Carol under her red covers as she sleeps. Through parts of her are obscured throughout the film, Therese is the holder of Mulvey s powerful gaze and thus gives new meaning to this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Essay about A Comparison of Two James Bond Posters A Comparison of Two James Bond Posters Dr No in 1962 was the first James Bond film released and The World Is Not Enough is one of the most recent Bond films to have been released in 1999. The two film posters are distinctively different, which would be expected as the films were released decades apart from eachother. The first poster for Dr No shows that James Bond is a new, never seen before film as the logo 007 is printed on the poster more than once in bold lettering, and the name James Bond is also printed, whereas in the poster for the World Is Not Enough the 007 logo is only used once in small lettering and James Bond is not used at all, because by this time the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This also may have something to do with the fact that in the 90 s, the first female head of MI5 was introduced into the films. The genre of the film is far more evident in the poster for The World Is Not Enough . The images used connote an action film that has many different narratives. The poster is lively and eye catching and is full of bright, vivid images. The poster fits in very well with the title of the film, as it looks like James Bond is going to embark on some international mission, the image of some of the continents in flames shows this. There are also several images circling around the main characters in the film, which look futuristic and scientific and feature explosions and car chases. Comparing the two posters also shows how technology and science has progressed through the decades and this is very apparent in the 1999 film poster, which looks far more advanced, as far as gadgets and weapons go. The Dr No poster does not specify the genre so well. It could be for several different genres. It indicates that it could possibly be a spy or mystery film, which is partly true of the James Bond movies. James Bond is shown in the Dr No film poster as a silhouette, it suggests that he could be a very elusive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The boys on the secluded island slowly becoming savages due to the lack of a law making body to regulate and guide the individuals. Some people may argue that a government is not necessary for the survival of a group of people sharing common traditions and beliefs; however, it is imperative in order to prevent the downfall of society. First of all, a government protects the rights of the people. Secondly, it establishes consequences for crimes and misdeeds, and lastly, government maintains peace and order within society. Several laws and regulations are put into place by the government to prevent humans from behaving without caution. Without these laws, humans would engage in activities which could potentially harm the community, slowly abolishing peace and order within society. At the beginning of Lord of the Flies, Ralph takes charge and attempts to maintain order and peace on the island by conducting meetings and assuming leadership. However, the absence of a legitimate government gradually resulted in the boys turning into savages. Furthermore, it created conflicts between different characters such as Jack and Ralph that could not be resolved in an orderly manner due to the lack of a strong law making body. However, a society with an active government develops the necessary regulations needed to establish justice amongst individuals. Several people may argue that many laws put forth by the government do not promote peace; however, these regulations keep society organized by having a systematic way to control people while also providing the peace and freedom citizens seek in society. The Development of Wireless Communication Leading to the Alexanderson Alternator Not much has changed in human nature in the past couple centuries. When we want something, we desire exactly what we want without deviation and we wish to have it quickly. This is as evident in modern times as it was in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. It is difficult to imagine for the modern man, but there was once a time when messages and information had to be delivered by hand, horseback or by vehicle. This was a very big problem in a world that was expanding and evolving rapidly and was full of growing local and international turmoil. Orsted was dumbfounded about his discovery, but had no way of explaining how it was possible that the electrical current had an effect on the magnetic needle of the compass. After reading about Orsted s results, a man by the name of André Marie Ampère sought to find the reason for this occurrence and what he discovered changed the field of electrical engineering forever. He demonstrated that when two wires were placed parallel to one another, both carrying an electric current, they d either be attracted to or repulsed by each other depending on which directions the currents were traveling. [4]. Ampere later created what is known as Ampere s Law which relates electricity and magnetism. So why was this relationship between electricity and magnetism so important to the field of electrical information transmission? This question began to be answered by a man named Joseph Henry in 1830. Intrigued by the recent innovation of electromagnetism, Henry decided to test its effectiveness in the field of electrical transmission. Henry decided that if he passed current through one end of a transmission wire he could use the current to activate an electromagnet at its opposite end. Henry attached a bell to the electromagnet a mile from his current emission point and was able to ring the bell by sending current through the line. The procedure I am going to discuss is a dressing change to a leg ulcer which took place during a routine home visit with the community nurse. I am going to use Gibbs Model of Reflection (1988), to reflect on the experience and evaluate my thoughts and feelings of the procedure, and to outline what I have gained from the experience for my future practice. After leaving the patients home I discussed my practical experience with the Nurse who informed me that I although I had carried out the procedure well it was actually carried out using a clinically clean technique rather than the Aseptic Non Touch Technique as I had thought. As I had used the same gloves to remove the dirty dressings from the leg ulcer and then apply new sterile dressings I had not maintained the Aseptic Non Touch Technique. The Nurse informed me that this was perfectly suitable for the procedure I carried out as the wound was still kept as clean as possible and dressings and equipment used were sterile. Whilst carrying out the procedure I felt confident with my practice of the dressing change using the Aseptic technique. Although I was slightly nervous and self conscious as I was aware that the trained Nurse was observing me, I felt that this did not come across in my body language or my practice. The most important twist in the entire book is not only is no one being earnest, but no one in the book is actually named Ernest! It follows two characters, the protagonist and his foil, and primarily focuses on their opinions on the world that they live in. The two characters whom bunbury their way through town/the country in order to escape the responsibilities they have waiting for them at home. She would probably never be allowed to know the entrancing pleasure of a single moment s solitude. The only really safe name is Ernest. she says after Jack tries to tell her that his name is not Ernest, but she ends up rendering the feat impossible by showing us that she is just so in love that it is a resonating sound that rings from the name Ernest that rocks her to the core with vibrations. Cecily is no different, after an extensive conversation with Algernon about whether or not she actually likes the name Algernon(she didn t), she says to him I might respect you, Ernest, I might admire your character, but I fear that I should not be able to give you my undivided attention. March 19th is celebrated as the Feast of St. Joseph. It began in the Middle Ages when there was a drought in Sicily. The desperate people living there asked Joseph for rain in exchange for a huge meal in his honor. Of course, the rains came and the land was thriving again. In keeping their promise, the people prepared an enormous feast, beginning the tradition of the St. Joseph s Table and giving food to the less fortunate. Today, many churches and organizations still host St. Joseph s Tables, in which parishioners or members prepare and donate large amounts of food, all meat less items. The Italians do believe in the supernatural. Many general supernatural beliefs of the Catholic Church are intertwined with older beliefs. An example is Sicily, in which, Arabic and Greek influences have blended with popular Spanish beliefs and been incorporated into Catholicism. They have beliefs in the evil eye, charms, spells, messages through dreams, and various other types of omens. They believed in witches with powers and anti witches. Many of the beliefs have died out with the knowledge of the modern age. The people of the capital of Italy, Rome, do not believe in one single all powerful god. Instead, they believe in many. During World War I, propaganda was used to influence exit isolationism, change America s views on immigrants, and keep Americans participating and fighting in the war. Propaganda was used to directly appeal to the emotions and patriotism of many Americans, willing them to join the war. It was also used to express America s ever changing ideas of immigrants, such as the Japanese in California. • 20. Jazz Music In West Side Story And Romeo And Juliet In my essay I am going to bring up three different topics. How jazz music makes West Side Story be evocative of the decade in which it was written, how gang related music would change West Side Story and Romeo and Juliet, and further how different Romeo and Juliet would be if they would of sang rather than spoke their soliloquy. Each of these topics has gang related actions and how music defines the gangs. In West Side Story both Acts 1 and 2 are mostly instrumental, allowing suspense to form in each scene. In the 1950 s, gangs are growing more and more. With West Side Story being in New York, there were the Jets and the Sharks. Jazz music help bring out the actions in each of the two gangs and helps bring out each of the characters and shows who they really are. In Tonight, the characters are reflecting on their hopes and dreams. Bernstein crafted the music to mirror the visions of each character. Jazz music helps build suspense in many scenes in West Side Story, for instance, in The Gangs Fight in the Street, the music starts to become allegro and the snaps of their fingers build the suspense even more. The jazz helps show the differences in each gang and how their actions are like that of the sounds of jazz orchestra. West Side Story also has classical and pop music played throughout it, and at certain instances all three can be heard together. At the very end of the musical, the music become piano; and the hurt and anger from Maria is radiated from the music choice. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They assure terrorists that their grievances will receive public attention; yet they also can mobilize public opinion against the arbitrary use of violence by stripping terrorism of its romantic veneer and exposing its violent underpinnings to public scrutiny.20 The proposed general industry guidelines should minimize the harms from publicizing terrorist events while maximizing the speech interests vital to a democratic society (Moffitt, 1998). In previous decades, the journalistic mission was to report the news as it actually happened, with fairness, balance, and integrity; Profit gaining motives associated with journalism have forced much of today s television news to look to the spectacular, the stirring, and the controversial as news stories. It s no longer a race to break the story first or get the facts right. Instead, it s to acquire good ratings in order to get advertisers, so that profits soar. • 34. Themes In Clybourne Park And Water By The Spoonful Themes are one of the most vital and critical elements of a play s overall significance and meaning. Without identifying what tools a playwright uses to construct his/her play through a close reading, such as language, character, or setting, the audience would lack a clear vision of the particular play s meaning. In the case of Clybourne Park, by Bruce Norris, and Water by the Spoonful, by Quiara Alegria Hudes, race can be identified as a theme in both, through the use of literary devices, however it is explored much more subtly in Water by the Spoonful. Race is the major underlying theme in Clybourne Park, while the themes of community and addiction are dealt with in Water by the Spoonful. Nevertheless, each play is complete with examples ... He reiterates this when he ignorantly says, ... fitting into a community is really what it all comes down to (64). Karl s character evidently proves the theme of race. Here the audience receives a reference to the theme of community. With the racism of the 1950 s comes the clear divide between the white and black community, however, the sense that there is still a divide remains in 2009, in the second act. The racism continues with another white male character, Jim, who pressures black housekeeper, Francine into admitting that her family and herself would not fit in or feel comfortable living in a white community. Jim asks, Would this be the sort of neighborhood you d find an attractive place in which to live? (70). Francine avoids confrontation and simply states, It s a very nice neighborhood (70). Her use of language is polite, as she does not want to start an argument. Instead of admitting they would not fit into such a community, as Jim was probing her to admit, she remains calm. Francine even agrees that there are differences between the two races, and that they live differently, saying in reply to Jim, I agree with that (73). • 35. Dual Language Education And Education Even though Brown v. Board of Education ruled segregation in schools unconstitutional, it exists in a different form today. While the most students in schools are in normal classes, English Language Learners are often separated from the rest of the student body. These students, mostly hispanic immigrants, are put in special classes separate from the main student body where they are given special English instruction. They rarely interact with the main student body, and it often seems that they go to a different school. Dual Language Education solves this problem. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The goal of Dual Language Education is that students not only become bilingual and have high reading and writing levels in both languages but also that they discover and appreciate other cultures. In almost all DLE programs, the partner language is the language of instruction for fifty to ninety percent of the time, depending on the program. As stated in the article, The Balancing Act Of Bilingual Immersion by Samina Hadi Tabassum, there are three types of ways to divide instruction. The first most common way is division by time. In this method, students spend part of their time learning in one language and then switch over to the the other language. This is done by spending half the day in each language, alternating days, or alternating weeks. The second method used is division by content. In this method, the languages are divided based on subject, with each subject being taught in a specific language. For example, in the French American School in Providence RI, middle schoolers learn math English, science, and their elective in English and French, social studies, Spanish, art, music, physical education, and health in French (Murphy). Finally, the third method is division by staff, in which one teacher teaches English and the other teaches the partner language. This method can be and often is combined with one of the first two methods. The International Charter School in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, uses the first and third methods. Students rotate between ... • 37. Essay about Not Really The Working Poor in Nickel and Dimed Barbara Ehrenreich would make a bad representative of the working poor because she lacks three major things that a woman of that class would actually possess. Ehrenreich doesn t meet the true qualifications of a working class woman: she lacks the background, she lacks respect of the money she earns, and she lacks certain personal or social qualities that ordinarily are possessed by the working poor. Ehrenreich is part of the upper middle class; she is privileged to have a job in which she makes money by sitting at her desk and writing (E 2). [My coworkers] live with spouses or grown children or they have other jobs in addition to this one (E 178). The wear and tear of simply having to deal with relationships and to live with another person, not always just a spouse or family member, but sometimes a friend or simply a coworker, is something Ehrenreich does not have to endure. The second trait that I find Ehrenreich lacks is a certain respect of money that one of the working class would possess. One of the first examples I saw of this was when she bought her uniform pants in Florida for Jerry s. Then there is the $30 I had to spend on the regulation tan slacks worn by Jerry s servers a setback it could take weeks to absorb (E 39). This foolish decision on buying pants at $30 is not something a working poor woman would do. There are sections of the brain that do have control over a human being s personality, where that individual can either develop into an average person or join the other one percent of psychopaths living in the world today (due to physical damage or chemical imbalance in the brain). These specific sections of the brain are different in males then in females, some components of the brain vary in size etc. between sexes. Emphasis was placed on analysing the relationship between violence and agricultural productivity and investments in the region using contextual analysis based on both primary and secondary data. The theoretical perspective that was adopted is the frustration aggression theory which states that people will always resort to violence/aggression whenever they are excessively frustrated. This theory was therefore employed to understand causes of the problem of violent conflict in the North East. It was established that violent conflict has caused a lot of problems for the people living in that region most especially with regards tofood security since most of the inhabitants of this region are subsistence farmers and since they have been displaced, cannot cultivate their farms to feed themselves. The study recommends that government should tackle the root cause of violent conflict and strengthen the fight against insurgency in order to bring lasting peace to the region. Advantage And Disadvantages Of Globalisation Globalisation Globalisation is the emerging inter connectedness of the world due to the integration of trade and communication technologies across international borders, which allows for socio cultural developments as a result of the increase in everyday internet use, as well as the interaction between people, companies and governments of different natures. Globalisation can also be seen as the internationalisation of design due to the free movements of products, services and assets, which enabled products to be planned, assembled and distributed in completely different countries. Globalisation is not a new concept, but many believe that the rate of globalisation has increased dramatically in the last few years. This is mainly due to two developments. Governments have initiated free market economies which decrease the number of barriers standing in the way of international trade and investment and technology has provided people with new tools to identify opportunities, analyse trends, transfer assets and communicate with partners in different countries. Globalisation ensures that there is a greater variety of products that are more readily available across the world and promotes a decrease in poverty, as international factories will need to be run by employees that live in that area. An example of this method might use translation table A on all of the even bytes, and translation table B on all of the odd bytes. Unless a potential code breaker knows that there are exactly 2 tables, even with both source and encrypted data available the deciphering process is relatively difficult. Similar to using a translation table, data repositioning lends itself to use by a computer, but takes considerably more time to accomplish. A buffer of data is read from the input, then the order of the bytes (or other chunk size) is rearranged, and written out of order . The decryption program then reads this back in, and puts them back in order . Often such a method is best used in combination with one or more of the other encryption methods mentioned here, making it even more difficult for code breakers to determine how to decipher your encrypted data. As an example, consider an anagram. The letters are all there, but the order has been changed. Some anagrams are easier than others to decipher, but a well written anagram is a brain teaser nonetheless, especially if it s intentionally misleading. My favorite methods, however, involve something that only computers can do: word/byte rotation and XOR bit masking. If you ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
