How to be a Good College Student Essay
How to be a Good College Student College is a competitive environment; in order to succeed in it a
student needs certain skills. Those skills can only be learned. A college professor mentioned that there
five basic rules that need to be followed in order to become a good student: study, do all the
homework and the assigned reading, attend class, and, most importantly, develop self discipline and
time management 1. In the following lines, a detailed analysis of those different steps will be done.
So, let s get started. First, we mentioned study. A good student has to do study everyday. Study
involves reading the textbooks, understand them, be able to explain it to others and sometimes
memorize the most important concepts. As a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The textbooks are usually large. The lecture giving by the teacher usually is a summary of the
textbook. When revising for the exam, it will be a lot easier for the student to cover the material.
Finally, we also mentioned the importance of time management and self discipline. A student will
manage very well his/her time by identifying best time for studying, using distributed learning and
practice means study in shorter time blocks with shorts breaks between, reducing distractions which
can waste time, making room for entertainment and relaxation, making sure there is time to sleep and
eat properly and try to combine activities. For example, if a student is spending time in the
Laundromat, he/she can bring his psychology book to read. Managing time takes self discipline. The
same professor cited before said that people who seem to have less difficulty with self discipline
probably have simply had more practice at it . So, practice is what it takes to have self discipline. In
conclusion, it is clear that being a good college student is not an easy task. It required good study
habit, class attendance, time management and self discipline. It is not easy but it worth the hard work.
Because, as Jerome R. Breitenbach wrote, the education you receive in college, and the attitude you
develop, will guide you for the rest of your life. Your grades will be especially important in landing
your first job, or when applying to graduate

Non Politician Oxymoron
The Non Politician Oxymoron of American Political Lexicon
One of the most confusing phenomenon to anyone unfamiliar with the American political landscape is
about the non politician or so called outsider who is seeking a political office on the strength of his
inexperience or unfamiliarity with the political process. The public likes the idea of someone who is
an outsider to politics, who will come in and straighten out all the mess the career politicians have
made. Most people running for an office for the first time (whether new to politics or not) know this
and are astute enough to paint themselves as new , fresh , outsider etc.
But how do you seek an office that you know little or nothing about? In general, you can hardly ...

The Republican base wants new blood, outsiders, to represent them in the upcoming election primarily
because they feel they ve been lied to. While that may be true, it does not exonerate them from their
complicit credulity. It is indeed ironic that while they are reacting out of a sense of betrayal, they
inadvertently fall prey again to individuals who are representing themselves in less than honest ways. I
believe most politicians are a reflection of their base. So if the Republican base wants better
representation from politicians who will not lie to them, they should first learn to change with the
times and adjust their reality and expectations to the current political landscape. That way, when
someone promises them heaven and earth, or things that are unrealistic to achieve, they will know

Failure to implement measures for tourists to not litter leads to degradation of tourist attraction sites.
They throw plastic bottles, food packaging and old batteries overboard cruise ships. This results the
ocean to be polluted, and threatens marine life.
For instance, many islands in the Caribbean have limited space on land to treat waste from ships.
Thus, solid and liquid waste are sometimes dumped into the Caribbean Sea by ships.

How Did Geography Shaped Mendocino
How geography shaped Mendocino Have you ever wondered how geography has shaped Mendocino?
Mendocinos geography, plants, and animals have been have been changing for years on the
Mendocino coast, even though you may not notice it, it still happens everywhere. It s probably
happening right now. Wind, water, the sun, our redwood trees, and the people who came to the
Mendocino coast have been shaping Mendocino for so long to make it where it is today. Mendocino
has been known for its beautiful coastline and the huge redwood trees. But not only are they both
beautiful attractions they both have their own history that impacted Mendocino to make it is where it
is today. Mendocino used to be a huge redwood logging town. The loggers would cut down the
redwoods and then put them in the rivers so they would float down to the ocean where the trees would
be put into boats and then sailed off to San Francisco where they were building a whole new city
because of the gold rush. Because Mendocino was right along the ocean it was easy to trade because it
was easy for the ships to come in. It also helped with the logging and how they loaded them onto the
boats. As you can see that the redwoods played a big part in Mendocino ... Show more content on

Many tourists come up to Mendocino to fish and dive during the salmon, abalone and crab seasons.
We are mainly known for our red abalone here on the coast because there are not many abalone
habitats left in the world because so many people go diving for them. But because we have abalone
many tourists come to dive, and because they come if benefits our inns here in Mendocino.
Mendocino also has salmon here in Mendocino which also attracts tourists because the salmon is so
delicious. Also Mendocino has huge crab festival during crab season because crab is such a huge thing

The Christian Faith Since The Reformation Of Luther
Spener, like Luther, saw a need to reform what was there in the way of religious faiths. And like
Luther, his intentions were not to remake the faith but to simply bring it back to where it belonged.
Unlike the reformation of Luther, which failed to reform the Catholic Church and ended up splitting
into the Protestant Church, Spener spent his time within the Protestant Church to reform the way
people lived and thought. Arguably, the Pia Desidria that Spener wrote turned out to be the greatest
paper to further the Christian faith since the Bible itself. Pietism is a movement that happened in the
seventeenth and eighteenth century within Protestantism. By the end of the seventeenth century
Protestantism had fallen away from its focus on Christ and a person s walk with Him and had fully
submersed itself in to religious dogma. The movement started with one man, Philip Spener, growing
up with a strong religious background and the writings of Johann Arndt, Spener went to the University
of Strassburg. While attending school at Strassburg, he was taught by professors that justification by
faith was more than just a doctrine but a spiritual rebirth. After spending three years in a pastorate at
Strassburg, Spener went to Frankfort. Upon his arrival, he was shocked by the conditions of the town
and abandoned traditional doctrine and started preaching from the entire Bible. After he preached from
the Sermon on the Mount in 1669, the response from the people was very surprising. People

Women In For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide...
In Ntozake Shange s choreopoem For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the
Rainbow is Enuf, society oppresses and diminishes the female characters, viewing them as secondary
to men. Moreover, throughout the play, each woman from the rainbow shares stories of how she or
another woman is isolated from her community, due to a man s maltreatment. These women are left
alone to deal with the humiliation of rape, pregnancies, abuse, and objectification, burdens that detach
them from the people around them. The alienation of women in For Colored Girls Who Have
Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf exposes society s idea that women are inferior to men.

Comparing Intersex And Transgender Females Deserve A Place...
Intersex and transgender females deserve a place of belonging in the world of sport. Society s need to
categorize humans makes it difficult for minorities to find a sense of belonging. Humans are easily
given labels by society as gay, straight, black, asian, female, male etc. This system works for the
majority of people, and those who fit in do not see a necessity to change these constructs. As Judith
Butler argues in her essay Undoing Gender we must remake the definition of human by deconstructing
our preconceived notion of humanity and continuously reassembling it. Butler eloquently states This
means we must learn to live and to embrace the destruction and re articulation of the human in the
name of a more capacious and, finally, less ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Physicist Ira Hammerman discovered that in a set of swimming and running races woman s world
records were consistently about 90 percent of the men s world record. Further research proved this
ratio true across diverse sports (Meyer). Many believe that a male to female transgender holds an
unfair competitive advantage against a cisgender female because they were born as males and
therefore retain some of the advantages that come with masculinity. These advantages go beyond the
biological differences in gender which can be equated with hormonal treatment. In her essay
Essentialism and Experience Bell Hooks discusses the effect of male privilege. She argues that male
students, who have spent most of their lives benefitting from male privilege, do not fully understand
the passion of experience in a classroom. Similarly we can explore the benefits of male privilege in
sport which is a drastically male dominant aspect of society. A study at the University of Southern
California uncovered that L.A. based broadcast affiliates devote only 3.2 percent of airtime to women
s sport (Good). Iris Young builds on this societal imbalance in her essay Throwing Like a Girl. Young
explains how societal structures have a psychological effect on female performance. She argues that
the fact that women cannot throw as far as men is not simply due to the biomechanical differences
between genders but rather

Franchise Essay
MICHELL GEORGE
HOW IS A PRIVATE LTD. DIFFERENT FROM A FRANCHISE?
Franchise:
It is the authorization or a license given to an individual or a group by a government or company
allowing them to carry out commercial activities. Examples of franchise would be providing a
broadcasting service or acting as an agent for a company s product. Franchising is one of the three
strategies that businesses use to gain market share. Companies that want to give a good image of their
products to their customers, use franchising. It is also a method used to satisfy customer needs. An
advantage of franchising would be, having a certain level of independence.

A Private Ltd. is different from Sole Traders and Partnerships. It is owned by between 2 to 50
shareholders; often members of the same family. It has a separate legal identity in the eyes of the law.
The Private in Ltd. means that people have to be invited to own shares. They have limited liability;
this means if the company has debts, the owners can only lose the original money they invested.

Arguments Against Standardized Testing
Stressful standardized testing turns many classrooms into training centers instead of offering an
engaging, well rounded, preparatory environment. Long lectures and teachers preaching causes
students to grow bored and dose off ultimately dropping test scores. Students feel like they are nothing
more than their test scores, and feel a sense of not knowing who they are. These standardized tests also
lead to anxiety and depression in students, and can lead to students feeling like dropping out is the
only option. No, standardized testing should not be eliminated completely, but rather be evaluated by
universities as well as things such as volunteer hours, extracurricular activities, and grades. The
Essential of a Good Education, written by Diane Ravitch, states this very clearly. In this aricle: she
critizues the education system in America today. Standardized tests are frequently used to asses a
student s academic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead of students studying for tests all year long, students just cram for the test when the date is near.
According to eCampusTours, Standardized testing impedes the assessment of a very important skill.
For the most part, standardized tests hinder any sort of creative and out of the box thinking, which is a
skill needed in college and the workplace. Standardized teststing makes it so that instead of creative
learning druing school, students just learn the information that is going to be presrnted on the test and
nothing more. Having a positive enviorment for studnents to express themselves and their creativity
helps them prepare for the future. In the article The Essentials to a Good Education, Ravitch writes
that, They[schools] should broaden their knowledge of the world so that they recognize that other
people think differently; by doing so, they may abandon narrow provincialism and get a clearer

Advantages Of Qualitative Research
5 Qualitative Research
5.1 Methodology
As the aim of the research is to identify the relationship between the CSR and the brand trust, focus
group would be the most appropriate approach to collect a diverse range of individuals opinions in a
short time (Rabiee, 2007). Moreover, Focus group would encourage participants to communicate with
each other, which would generate more data which cannot be collected by one to one depth interview,
this could be termed as the group effect (Carey Smith 1994). Morgan Krueger (1993) also point out
that focus group would observe the participants attitude about the social problems.
The objective of qualitative research is to collect the individuals views and support the quantitative
research design. The focus group is considered as a technique, which implements the depth group
interview to collect the data and evaluate the identified variables are relevant for the study (Rabiee,
2007). Richardson Rabiee (2001) argue that participants should be selected according to the following
criteria: First, they have the relevant life experiences and have something to state on the topic. Second,
it would be better that they are not fearful of expressing the opinions among the participants. Third,
they could feel comfortable communicating with each other.
To collect more valuable data, the focus group was divided into two groups, each group has 5
participants. They were conducted in one of the group members flat on 1st November and 2nd

Comparing The Characters In Oedipus Rex And Death Of A...
There are many aspects that contribute to the functionality of a play, one of the main ones is having
functional characters. Every character in a play has a purpose, some way in which they further the
play. Oedipus Rex, A Raisin in the Sun, and Death of a Salesman are all very different plays with
completely different stories, but one thing they have in common is the importance of the mother
character within them. The mothers each have a unique role in their own play, but all three of them are
very important to the story. Jocasta, Mama, and Linda are all three used to further their stories in one
way or another. While they are not the main characters, the plays would be incomplete without their
characters. Though Jocasta is not present for the majority of the play, she serves a major role to the
story. Jocasta s purpose in Oedipus Rex is to expose the true identity ... Show more content on

Mama serves as the voice of reason in the play, all she wants to do with the money is buy a home for

Essay on Lord of the Flies by William Golding
William Golding explores the vulnerability of society in a way that can be read on many different
levels. A less detailed look at the book, Lord of the Flies, is a simple fable about boys stranded on an
island. Another way to comprehend the book is as a statement about mans inner savage and reverting
to a primitive state without societies boundaries. By examining the Lord of the Flies further, it is
revealed that many themes portray Golding s views, including a religious persecution theme.
Golding includes the theme of religious persecution to remind people of mans true nature, and by
doing so alludes the fact that the next time society deteriorates, due to nuclear war, may be the last.

It is required to give less impact and weight to Mixon factors relating to form and more to substance,
based on the fact that the transactions were not made at arm s length.
Non exclusive Mixon factors that contributed to the decision:
1. Name given to certificates: Labels on documents conclude that the advances say they are debt, but
labels alone cannot change equity to debt. This factor favors the advances treated as debt, but there is
less weight to this factor because it is based on form rather than substance.
2. Presence or absence of a fixed maturity date: Although fixed maturity dates existed, postponing
maturity suggests a lack of intent to require repayment. This factor supports the treatment of the
advances as equity because the directors did not intend to request repayment and continually extended
the maturity dates, never enforcing them.
3. Source of payments: The petitioners claim liquidity and the ability to pay interest or principal on
amount owed, but conclusive findings show the insufficiency to pay interest or principal balance. This
factor supports the treatment of the advances as equity.

Summary Of The Poem What A Jerk
What a jerk? That s him pushing the stone up the hill, the jerk (34 37): Seems like Mrs. Sisyphus,
throughout the poem, is attempting to rule out her workaholic husband of any chance to explain
himself or tell his side of the story on why he works a lot. The reader may even argue that there may
be some valid complaints that she states but she s not all that sympathetic. There s this sense of
complete hatred for her husband as if he s really a horrendous person, but in reality she s alone and
hurt rather than angry. Throughout the poem, she comes across as very evil, diabolical, but in a softer
sense. Her words don t seem to stick since they re more of a soft insult rather than harsh and rough, as
if a little girl did not get the candy she wants so she s ignoring her mother for not buying her it, but she
s calling her mean and all this in the moment, but then gets sad because she didn t get that piece of
candy. If you take a look at the beginning stanzas of the poem, she says in her own words, I call it a
stone it s nearer the size of a kirk. When he first started out, it just used to irk, but now its incenses me,
and him, the absolute berk. I could do something vicious to him with a dirk. (2 5). When reading this
poem, the first thing you may realize is that this poem is written as a dramatic monologue, which is a
literary technique used to speak to some kind of non present listener, and she puts this story together
in a dramatic and shocking sort of way as if she

Egger s Corruption In Zeitoun
By reading the recent news stories of Zeitoun and his ex wife Kathy, my perception of him was
extremely skewed as I read Zeitoun. Rather than viewing him as the heroic and invincible man that he
was, I found myself constantly looking forward to the abusive man he is, ignoring the courageous acts
he had accomplished. He originally comes off as a fearless, valiant man in the novel Zeitoun, but now
he is a criminal. This alteration was provoked. The current actions of Zeitoun enhance Eggers purpose
and prove to be a primary consequence of the corruption he had experienced. David Eggers wrote the

Rather than escaping disaster and fleeing New Orleans, he decided to sacrifice his safety and guard his
city. Zeitoun felt as if he had been called to stay, that God knew he would be of service if he remained.
His choice to stay in the city had been God s will (Eggers110). Excerpts such as this one illustrate
Zeitoun as an extremely religious and valiant man. He put others before himself and took
responsibilities into his own hands. However, when Zeitoun was placed in Camp Greyhound, his
valiant character slowly began to fade. Due to mistreatment, Zeitoun, the valiant hero, began to waste
away; he knew the conditions had begun to take a very real toll on his psyche. He had been angry until
now, but he had been thinking clearly. Now the connections were more tenuous...It diminished the
humanity in all of them (Eggers236). Eggers further displayed Zeitoun s diminishing mental stability
when he was placed in a maximum security unit at Hunt s correctional center. Eggers wrote, ...he had
been confined twenty three hours a day to his cell...The environment would drive any sane man mad
(Eggers264). However, as we look towards Zeitoun s actions after he was released, he appeared to be
okay, despite his desire to work himself for hours more than usual. The only noticeable mental issues
that were a result of his mistreatment were displayed within Kathy s character. Eggers included that

American Culture And Ruth s Irish Culture
On this occasion, I found that my American culture and Ruth s Irish culture were actually quite
different from our cultures as a while, but nonetheless comparable. We both share a strong (or high)
uncertainty avoidance... [preferring] clear procedures and conflict avoidance behaviors (Ting Toomey
Chung, p. 50). , which is something the United States culture is not known for. However, upon
reflecting on the conversation that Ruth and I shared with our friend, neither of us openly
demonstrated how uncomfortable we were with our friends bragging. We preferred instead to preform
face saving motions, like congratulating them and acting interested. I think that sometimes our own
personality and experiences can cause us to act in ways that may go against the mainstream culture.
So when it comes to Ruth and I, maybe we simply have a stronger personality to avoid conflict than
the cultures we may have been socialized in.
When it comes to this conversation with our friend, and the fact that Ruth and I both tend to avoid
conflict. Although, Ruth was visible uncomfortable with the bragging our friend was doing, she
understood that she needed to be adaptive and realize that our friend may not understand that what
they are doing could be uncomfortable. However, Ruth s nonverbal display of awkward glances at our
friend and I, did give away that she was not completely adaptable. Given this, I think it is important
for people to understand that we must express emotions and attitudes

Path, by Kai T. Erikson, showing other consequences besides higher suicide rates.
Durkheim’s concept of social integration refers to social groups with well defined values,
traditions, norms, and goals. These groups will differ in the degree to which individuals are part of the
collective body, also to the extent to which the group is emphasized over the individual, and lastly the
level to which the group is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Finally, we have Fatalistic suicide, which occurs in societies with high levels of social regulation. This
is only briefly discussed in Durkheim’s work, as he saw Fatalistic suicide, “as a rare
phenomena in the real world. (I1) An example might be someone with an overregulated and
difficult life, like a slave.
In order to understand how Durkheim’s concepts apply to the Buffalo Creek disaster, you must
first know some things about Buffalo Creek, West Virginia. Prior to the disaster in 1972, Buffalo
Creek was a typical coal mining community, home to some five thousand people. It had changed over
the years, population rose and fell with the periodic coal booms, the population had actually risen to
two or three times its present size in 1972. Most of the people who came and left were mainly
temporary, just following the work. However, some who left were lifelong residents and “an even
more substantial number of young persons who had grown up in the area. (23) They left for the
same reasons that all young people leave this type of community; they did not want to be cast in the
roles of previous generations. So, before the flood on February 26, 1972, the resident’s of Buffalo
Creek had very high levels of social integration and social regulation. It was a very

Link With Dizzy Research Paper
I am open to any sort of Link with Dizzy really, hopefully a positive one though LOL. friends, lovers,
confidants, whatever really, if it goes in a negative way ok but I make no promises for what she does.
The muse does what the muse wants after all.
Dizzy is half Succubus and half Cheshire, her father the original Cheshire tricked her mother. Part of
the reason her mother treats her as she does. I was almost thinking maybe her animal side starts to take
over as she denies who she is and doesn t feed. She actually has a great deal of control up to this point.
Its the only reason she hasn t lost her shit and attacked someone. So maybe she can help Ai with that?
It be a way he could realize how her control has been pushed to the point it is now. She has such a
tight grip on it, when she does lose it...well rather bad. Again she is part animal hehe Thankfully she
doesn t have the charm abilities as Ai does or the school would be in for a hell of a lot of trouble.
Oh I have such ideas for him and Yasmin when she gets approved. She is after all a being of nature,
energy and natural sexuality. Not to mention she runs about the gardens naked or nearly naked most of
the time LOL. I suddenly see a naughty Incubus getting thwack by a bush or something LOL Or

maybe someone to help her understand things since she has no memory of most things for this day and
age. As for using his charm on her and something happening there, I would oocly bring Outlawed
Fallen into it and plot with him if we wanted to do that. As it would really affect and involve his
character Fallen.
But YAAY for plotting, I m glad you open to ideas and look forward to coming up to something fun.
Let me know if any ideas spark, again I m totally open to ideas and suggestions.
have fun at work, well as much as you can hehe

Primary Crime Scene Analysis
The primary crime scene provides a very important aspect of the crime and that is presentation. Which
is the location, condition, and position of the body in relation to the actual crime scene. This usually
allows for the homicide detective to gain crucial information about the crime that took place. This
allows for hypothesis early on in the investigation and it allows for the investigator to find information
that is either consist with their case or it confirms inconsistency on whether or not the person was
murdered there or the body was dumped. This is especially important in equivocal death
investigations, which are open to interpretation. There may be two or more meanings and the case may
present as either a homicide or a suicide depending

Visual Merchandise Guidelines For Retailers
Since approximately 90% of cues provided by an environment are digested through sight (Edwards
Shackley, 1992), more than ever it is a vital time for retailers to be reviewing their strategies with
respects to their Visual Merchandise Guidelines. Continuously, consumers are opting to take their
purchases online rather than experiencing the physical store environment. With constant innovative
technologies, retailers are finding novel ways to recreate the in store environment on screen; with the
high street being described as acting on borrowed time (guardian 2012). Retailers, such as New Look,
are keen to add any service that can generate sales and win intensified competitive share; it is
therefore crucial that the Visual Merchandise ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Valley Forge Dbq Essay
The war was very tough, men fought hard, we gave it our all. But war at this time wasn t our biggest
worries... it was our base, set at Valley Forge. It was like something out of a movie, conditions were
horrible, freezing, no shelter, little supply of food or water, men are dying, disease is getting around...
this is when times were horrible. George Washington our leader has 11,000 men on his back, but what
Valley Forge is doing will decrease our numbers fast. The early winter not only affected us but when
spring came everything thawed and created mud so deep we could barely get to our destination.
Should I even re enlist? Of course I should! It s wrong to quit, I am going to stay loyal to my country
and fight for what s right! I will re enlist. The first reason I am reenlisting is because many of our
soldiers and men are dying. In document C it states how bad the weather was and how crucial it was.
Valley Forge had the worst weather seen in the winter. Temperatures are very critical and fatal to our
men. It doesn t help that our shelter is the worst, barely any heat to keep us warm. Just horrible
conditions and too harsh for our men. Our men are falling and so are numbers, losing many men. The
least I could do is keep fighting for my country. They need me! ... Show more content on

George Washington soon teaches us all how crucial this win is for the future of America. Basically this
is a must win. This war will decide the future of America. It s now or never, we have to win this war.
If we win we get freedom and independence with our own government and country. Yes the British is
the best Army in the world but we can show them, they don t know what s coming. A people fighting
for their freedom and rights is more powerful than an army fighting just because they were told too. I

The History Of Oppression Of African Americans
In 1992 a black man by the name of Rodney King was beaten extensively by police for speeding. The
officers did not serve time in jail, which was the straw that broke the camel s back. Many blacks living
in Los Angeles at this time took part in violent riots to show the US they would not take the abuse
anymore. Year after year, uprising after uprising, African Americans are promised to be seen as equal
to whites, given equal opportunities and be provided equal rights. However, things have still yet to
change. African Americans have been victims of oppression and have suffered immensely for nothing
other than existing. They are disregarded as being last on the social pyramid by the police, schools,
and employers.

Review Of Making And Keeping Peace
Review: Making and Keeping Peace
Suzanne Werner and Amy Yuen
Introduction
The article written by Werner and Yuen examines the durability of peace after interstate conflicts.
Criticizing the reliance of the past literature only on the strength of peace agreements, they suggest
two other key variables affecting peace durability: whether the ceasefire followed a consistent pattern
of battle outcomes; and whether the war was interrupted by third party pressure, resulting in a
ceasefire. The primary assumption behind both variables is that if the agreement reflects the
belligerents convergent expectations about the military consequences of continuing the war, it will be
less likely to fail. Wars interrupted by third party intervention or ended without a clear winner do not
reveal enough information about the prospects of continuing fighting and therefore, are more likely to
resume.
In this paper, the author critically analyzes this article from various perspectives. Although the article
is an important contribution to the IR literature on peace, some points in the article require further
clarification and research. First, some issues with the two new variables and the way they are coded
are discussed. Then, some general points about the conclusions they draw from the data are presented.
Variables
In my opinion, some aspects of the definition of the variables they introduce are problematic or at
least unclear. The battle consistency variable can take a value between 1 and 0.

the black death Essay
In The Black Death the author Phillip Ziegler attempts to fully describe the Plague that struck Europe
in 1338 and remained until 1665. The year of the great Plague of London Ziegler tries to give an
unbiased account of the Plague by compiling information from contradictory sources. Ziegler begins
the book with the Tartans catapulting diseased corpses into Genoese as the Genoese escape back to
Europe. Following this, the author provides some insight into the Plague in Italy, Germany, and
France, in which he highlights the persecution of Jews, who became the scapegoat for the Plague in
Germany. The majority of the book discusses the Plague in England, dealing with the people that died.

This section is crucial for the reader s understanding of the plague. Ziegler very accurately depicts the
plagues origin and the uncertainty that surrounds it. nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; The following few
chapters discuss countries such as Italy, France, and Germany. This is a prelude to the many chapters
on England that follow. However, the majority of the book deals with England, because England has
the best documentation. The author presents all sides of issues such as the number of casualties, how
the church was affected and what happened to wages and price levels, and draws reasonable
conclusions. nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; The author also focuses on really appealing to human
emotions. What chapter also deals with what it would be like to live in a village before and after it was
ravaged by the plague. Ziegler s intention is to put the statistics into human terms. He appeals the
human condition by producing eyewitness accounts. For example, Boccaccio s descript of it. The
Decameron is a compelling first hand account, which Ziegler assesses in his book. Ziegler is careful to
weigh theses accounts with those oh historians. nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;Ziegler provides a
compelling account of the plague that pulverized Europe in 1338. A review written by Wickengee,

The Keystone Xl Oil Pipeline
In his speech before the Bloomberg Energy Conference in New York on April, last year, former
Canadian Minister on Natural Resources Joe Oliver outlined the significance of the Keystone XL oil
pipeline in meeting the growing demands of the United States for an environmentally safe and secure
energy source and distribution. He argued that North America s continued growth as a global
superpower depends on how it can meet its energy demands without depending so much on offshore
sources such as the Middle East which are mostly in conflict and are therefore unstable. Oliver seems
to present a compelling argument in favor of Canada s energy projects especially when he cites
independent third party reports made by the International Energy Agency ... Show more content on

We now attempt to review what Oliver had presented before the energy summit to understand how
attendees perceived Canada s stance on the Keystone XL project. Much of Rickford s work is a
continuance of the $650 billion resource development project left by his predecessor, including the
challenge of moving the Keystone XL forward amid obstacles. Rickford is expected to follow the
energy blueprint that Oliver had presented at the energy conference. Central to Oliver s arguments
were the accomplishments of Canada s energy efforts on innovation geared at producing cleaner
energy and on harnessing a diversified energy source from oil to recoverable gas, to hydroelectricity
and uranium... and then to wind energy as well. To complement government efforts on the consumer
level, Oliver also did not fail to mention the $1 billion in grants to get households to retrofit their
homes to become energy efficient. Establishing these facts gave Oliver a good start to present his
argument in favor of the US Canada collaboration on clean energy, which dialogues, he added started
in 2009. This was also the greatest strength of his presentation or of the article.
While Oliver did cite the IEA and the US State Department, he did not attempt to address the
criticisms and questions raised by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on the US State
Department s study. According to the EPA, the US State Department

The Jivaro people also known as the Shuar people are one of the indigenous people that habitat parts
of eastern Ecuador, and northern Peru. They live in small, spread out villages of approximately 22,000
square miles throughout the Amazon forest and foothills of the Andes mountains. The Jivaro people
consist of different smaller groups of people such as Achuar, Humabisa, Aguaruan, Antipas, Mayna.
The people can also speak over six languages: Jivoran, Quechua, Shiwar, Achuar, Awajun, and
Huambisa. The purpose of this study is to discern how the history of violence to themselves and from
others has impacted the Jivaroan way of life today. The city of Yaupi, Ecuador is a primarily Jivaro

In the villages, they have little education, except those children who are sent to learn Spanish in
mission boarding schools, and programs with lessons taught on the radio. The people are mostly
taught to have skills to live in the Amazon. It is important to note that while those in Ecuador call
these people Jivaros in, some villages the people preferred to be called Shuar because Jivaro or Jibaros
can be alluded to mean savage or rustic. Some of the Jivaro people are not far from town; therefore,
their connection to people in the towns is not rare. For years, they have traded goods, and land for
more goods. Trading shrunken heads was also once common. In the 20th century, once shurken heads
was outlawed the heads started to become counterfeited for trade. There are different ways to get to
and around this community. In the village, it is easier to walk or bike, but it is important to be aware of
surroundings since all forms of transportation and livestock share the road. It is possible to find some
service in some spots of the area; however, payphones can be used in towns. There are requirements
that must be set to visit this community. It is easier to access the Jivaro in Yaupi, as previously said,
because it is a known that can visited by bus. First, I must obtain a U.S passport to get to Ecuador and

Healthy Grief Essay
Running Head: HEALTHY GRIEF A Comparative Study of the Grieving Process HLT 310 V
Spirituality in Health Care May 21, 2010. A Comparative Study of the Grieving Process Grief is the
natural reaction to a major loss such as the demise of a loved one. The grief has many components
such as physical, emotional, social, mental, and spiritual. A person can feel grief during a serious, long
term illness or with an incurable disease. The symptoms can be a great level of depression,
gloominess, guilt, and hopelessness. The common grief responses feelings include numbness, shock,

In this stage, we feel the world around us turn out to be worthless and devastating, and we keep us in a
state of rejection. She further describes that we attempt to get a way to overcome day by day. As we
admit the truth of the loss and begin to ask ourselves question, we are unknowingly experiencing the
healing process. We are becoming stronger, and the denial is beginning to fade. Anger is the next stage
in the grieving process which is an essential phase of healing process. The truth is that anger has no
limits. When a person is angry it can spread to our friends, our family, to ourselves and our loved one
who died, also to God. In this situation, we may ask the question to ourselves, where is God? Through
anger we gradually acquire an inner strength to cope with the situation, and we often feel the relation
created from the strength of anger is something useful. Clearly, we feel that anger is another mode of
showing the intensity of our love towards our loved ones. Bargaining is another stage in the grieving
process in which the grieving person makes bargains with God. In this stage, the grieving person may
ask, God will you carry away my loss, if I do this? Bargaining seldom give a permanent resolution,
particularly, if it s a subject of life or death. Depression is the next step in grieving process in which
the grieving person shows disinterest and will be reluctant from things of love and affection. In

How Is The Bourgeoisie Related To The Rise Of Capitalism
Although Karl Marx criticized the private property and exploitation of labor in the bourgeoisie
governed society, he contended that Capitalism was progressive in history. (p.67)The capitalist had
indeed played a revolutionary part in mode of production, of exchange, and relation of production.
The epoch of capitalism set a consolidated material basis by enhancing the productive force. The rise
of bourgeoisie propels novel and effective modes of production and improves people s living standard.
The bourgeoisie put up a manufacturing system with unskilled worker. The division of labor in such
system allows more workers to do easier tasks and thus increasing the commodity production, when

The economic power eventually developed into political power that supported the bourgeoisie to
replace the outdated aristocracy. Marx believed the instability of society came from the
incompatibility of the massive productive forces and its obsolete relation of production.(p.70)
Capitalism emerged in the age of feudalism, and was itself adapted to the feudal society well enough
in the early stage; however, having constantly improved its modes of production and of exchange, at
certain stage, the political and economic characters of feudal society impede the development of
productive forces. Therefore, capitalism began to set up a constitution to replace the outmoded rule
and furthering production. Therefore, French Revolution was a representation of the middle class rebel
against the feudalism to change the relation of production. The bourgeoisie, although out of
themselves profits, endeavor to terminate the feudal, patriarchal and idyllic relation (67) and therefore
removing natural superiors and improving equality in society. In this sense, capitalism is more

Westernization Of Japanese Theatre Styles
Shingeki : Westernization of Japanese theatre.
This essay will discuss the extend of which the pioneers of Shingeki managed to adapt western style
drama and incorporate it in their particular style, by analysing their approaches and expectations.
Through a comparison between Japan s oldest and most traditional theatre style and Shingeki ,
translated in English as New Theatre, mentioning other forms of traditional style that were touched by
the western influence, , this essay aims to highlight the extend of which the Japanese theatre has been
influenced by the western style.
In studying the origins of Shingeki, it is evident that two men had a massive impact in developing this
style; men considered as pioneers of Shingeki. Tsubouchi Shōyō and Kaoru Osanai are two of the
pioneers who developed an interest in western style drama, and tried to adapt their traditional styles to
the western influences, without deviating from their Asian origins.
Tsubouchi Shōyō , approached the problem of modernization of Japanese theatre through studying
western plays and playwrights and to use his research to reform the traditional style of playwriting. He
translated and studied Shakespearean plays for the main purpose of capturing his masterful
playwriting and using it to reform the Kabuki theatre. He aimed to use an existent form of Japanese
theatre and adapt it to the changes required in order to perform western styled plays .His approach was
very literal, analysing western plays not only

  • 2. How to be a Good College Student Essay How to be a Good College Student College is a competitive environment; in order to succeed in it a student needs certain skills. Those skills can only be learned. A college professor mentioned that there five basic rules that need to be followed in order to become a good student: study, do all the homework and the assigned reading, attend class, and, most importantly, develop self discipline and time management 1. In the following lines, a detailed analysis of those different steps will be done. So, let s get started. First, we mentioned study. A good student has to do study everyday. Study involves reading the textbooks, understand them, be able to explain it to others and sometimes memorize the most important concepts. As a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The textbooks are usually large. The lecture giving by the teacher usually is a summary of the textbook. When revising for the exam, it will be a lot easier for the student to cover the material. Finally, we also mentioned the importance of time management and self discipline. A student will manage very well his/her time by identifying best time for studying, using distributed learning and practice means study in shorter time blocks with shorts breaks between, reducing distractions which can waste time, making room for entertainment and relaxation, making sure there is time to sleep and eat properly and try to combine activities. For example, if a student is spending time in the Laundromat, he/she can bring his psychology book to read. Managing time takes self discipline. The same professor cited before said that people who seem to have less difficulty with self discipline probably have simply had more practice at it . So, practice is what it takes to have self discipline. In conclusion, it is clear that being a good college student is not an easy task. It required good study habit, class attendance, time management and self discipline. It is not easy but it worth the hard work. Because, as Jerome R. Breitenbach wrote, the education you receive in college, and the attitude you develop, will guide you for the rest of your life. Your grades will be especially important in landing your first job, or when applying to graduate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Non Politician Oxymoron The Non Politician Oxymoron of American Political Lexicon One of the most confusing phenomenon to anyone unfamiliar with the American political landscape is about the non politician or so called outsider who is seeking a political office on the strength of his inexperience or unfamiliarity with the political process. The public likes the idea of someone who is an outsider to politics, who will come in and straighten out all the mess the career politicians have made. Most people running for an office for the first time (whether new to politics or not) know this and are astute enough to paint themselves as new , fresh , outsider etc. But how do you seek an office that you know little or nothing about? In general, you can hardly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Republican base wants new blood, outsiders, to represent them in the upcoming election primarily because they feel they ve been lied to. While that may be true, it does not exonerate them from their complicit credulity. It is indeed ironic that while they are reacting out of a sense of betrayal, they inadvertently fall prey again to individuals who are representing themselves in less than honest ways. I believe most politicians are a reflection of their base. So if the Republican base wants better representation from politicians who will not lie to them, they should first learn to change with the times and adjust their reality and expectations to the current political landscape. That way, when someone promises them heaven and earth, or things that are unrealistic to achieve, they will know they are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mendocinos geography, plants, and animals have been have been changing for years on the Mendocino coast, even though you may not notice it, it still happens everywhere. It s probably happening right now. Wind, water, the sun, our redwood trees, and the people who came to the Mendocino coast have been shaping Mendocino for so long to make it where it is today. Mendocino has been known for its beautiful coastline and the huge redwood trees. But not only are they both beautiful attractions they both have their own history that impacted Mendocino to make it is where it is today. Mendocino used to be a huge redwood logging town. The loggers would cut down the redwoods and then put them in the rivers so they would float down to the ocean where the trees would be put into boats and then sailed off to San Francisco where they were building a whole new city because of the gold rush. Because Mendocino was right along the ocean it was easy to trade because it was easy for the ships to come in. It also helped with the logging and how they loaded them onto the boats. • 6. The Christian Faith Since The Reformation Of Luther Spener, like Luther, saw a need to reform what was there in the way of religious faiths. And like Luther, his intentions were not to remake the faith but to simply bring it back to where it belonged. Unlike the reformation of Luther, which failed to reform the Catholic Church and ended up splitting into the Protestant Church, Spener spent his time within the Protestant Church to reform the way people lived and thought. Arguably, the Pia Desidria that Spener wrote turned out to be the greatest paper to further the Christian faith since the Bible itself. Pietism is a movement that happened in the seventeenth and eighteenth century within Protestantism. By the end of the seventeenth century Protestantism had fallen away from its focus on Christ and a person s walk with Him and had fully submersed itself in to religious dogma. The movement started with one man, Philip Spener, growing up with a strong religious background and the writings of Johann Arndt, Spener went to the University of Strassburg. While attending school at Strassburg, he was taught by professors that justification by faith was more than just a doctrine but a spiritual rebirth. After spending three years in a pastorate at Strassburg, Spener went to Frankfort. Upon his arrival, he was shocked by the conditions of the town and abandoned traditional doctrine and started preaching from the entire Bible. After he preached from the Sermon on the Mount in 1669, the response from the people was very surprising. People ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Comparing Intersex And Transgender Females Deserve A Place... Intersex and transgender females deserve a place of belonging in the world of sport. Society s need to categorize humans makes it difficult for minorities to find a sense of belonging. Humans are easily given labels by society as gay, straight, black, asian, female, male etc. This system works for the majority of people, and those who fit in do not see a necessity to change these constructs. As Judith Butler argues in her essay Undoing Gender we must remake the definition of human by deconstructing our preconceived notion of humanity and continuously reassembling it. Butler eloquently states This means we must learn to live and to embrace the destruction and re articulation of the human in the name of a more capacious and, finally, less ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Physicist Ira Hammerman discovered that in a set of swimming and running races woman s world records were consistently about 90 percent of the men s world record. Further research proved this ratio true across diverse sports (Meyer). Many believe that a male to female transgender holds an unfair competitive advantage against a cisgender female because they were born as males and therefore retain some of the advantages that come with masculinity. These advantages go beyond the biological differences in gender which can be equated with hormonal treatment. In her essay Essentialism and Experience Bell Hooks discusses the effect of male privilege. She argues that male students, who have spent most of their lives benefitting from male privilege, do not fully understand the passion of experience in a classroom. Similarly we can explore the benefits of male privilege in sport which is a drastically male dominant aspect of society. A study at the University of Southern California uncovered that L.A. based broadcast affiliates devote only 3.2 percent of airtime to women s sport (Good). Iris Young builds on this societal imbalance in her essay Throwing Like a Girl. Young explains how societal structures have a psychological effect on female performance. She argues that the fact that women cannot throw as far as men is not simply due to the biomechanical differences between genders but rather ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These standardized tests also lead to anxiety and depression in students, and can lead to students feeling like dropping out is the only option. No, standardized testing should not be eliminated completely, but rather be evaluated by universities as well as things such as volunteer hours, extracurricular activities, and grades. Moreover, Focus group would encourage participants to communicate with each other, which would generate more data which cannot be collected by one to one depth interview, this could be termed as the group effect (Carey Smith 1994). Morgan Krueger (1993) also point out that focus group would observe the participants attitude about the social problems. The mothers each have a unique role in their own play, but all three of them are very important to the story. Jocasta, Mama, and Linda are all three used to further their stories in one way or another. While they are not the main characters, the plays would be incomplete without their characters. That s him pushing the stone up the hill, the jerk (34 37): Seems like Mrs. Sisyphus, throughout the poem, is attempting to rule out her workaholic husband of any chance to explain himself or tell his side of the story on why he works a lot. The reader may even argue that there may be some valid complaints that she states but she s not all that sympathetic. There s this sense of complete hatred for her husband as if he s really a horrendous person, but in reality she s alone and hurt rather than angry. Throughout the poem, she comes across as very evil, diabolical, but in a softer sense. Her words don t seem to stick since they re more of a soft insult rather than harsh and rough, as if a little girl did not get the candy she wants so she s ignoring her mother for not buying her it, but she s calling her mean and all this in the moment, but then gets sad because she didn t get that piece of candy. If you take a look at the beginning stanzas of the poem, she says in her own words, I call it a stone it s nearer the size of a kirk. Rather than viewing him as the heroic and invincible man that he was, I found myself constantly looking forward to the abusive man he is, ignoring the courageous acts he had accomplished. He originally comes off as a fearless, valiant man in the novel Zeitoun, but now he is a criminal. This alteration was provoked. Zeitoun felt as if he had been called to stay, that God knew he would be of service if he remained. His choice to stay in the city had been God s will (Eggers110). Excerpts such as this one illustrate Zeitoun as an extremely religious and valiant man. He put others before himself and took responsibilities into his own hands. However, when Zeitoun was placed in Camp Greyhound, his valiant character slowly began to fade. American Culture And Ruth s Irish Culture On this occasion, I found that my American culture and Ruth s Irish culture were actually quite different from our cultures as a while, but nonetheless comparable. We both share a strong (or high) uncertainty avoidance... [preferring] clear procedures and conflict avoidance behaviors (Ting Toomey Chung, p. 50). , which is something the United States culture is not known for. However, upon reflecting on the conversation that Ruth and I shared with our friend, neither of us openly demonstrated how uncomfortable we were with our friends bragging. We preferred instead to preform face saving motions, like congratulating them and acting interested. I think that sometimes our own personality and experiences can cause us to act in ways that may go against the mainstream culture. So when it comes to Ruth and I, maybe we simply have a stronger personality to avoid conflict than the cultures we may have been socialized in. When it comes to this conversation with our friend, and the fact that Ruth and I both tend to avoid conflict. Although, Ruth was visible uncomfortable with the bragging our friend was doing, she understood that she needed to be adaptive and realize that our friend may not understand that what they are doing could be uncomfortable. However, Ruth s nonverbal display of awkward glances at our friend and I, did give away that she was not completely adaptable. Durkheimian Theories Applied to Buffalo Creek Essay This essay will describe Emile Durkheim’s concepts of social integration and social/moral regulation and will explain how Durkheim connects them to suicide. It will then utilize those concepts to analyze the social effects of the Buffalo Creek flood, as described in the book “Everything In Its Pathâ€?, by Kai T. (I1) An example might be someone with an overregulated and difficult life, like a slave. In order to understand how Durkheim’s concepts apply to the Buffalo Creek disaster, you must first know some things about Buffalo Creek, West Virginia. Prior to the disaster in 1972, Buffalo Creek was a typical coal mining community, home to some five thousand people. It had changed over the years, population rose and fell with the periodic coal booms, the population had actually risen to two or three times its present size in 1972. Most of the people who came and left were mainly temporary, just following the work. However, some who left were lifelong residents and “an even more substantial number of young persons who had grown up in the area.â€? (23) They left for the same reasons that all young people leave this type of community; they did not want to be cast in the roles of previous generations. • 27. Review Of Making And Keeping Peace Review: Making and Keeping Peace Suzanne Werner and Amy Yuen Introduction The article written by Werner and Yuen examines the durability of peace after interstate conflicts. Criticizing the reliance of the past literature only on the strength of peace agreements, they suggest two other key variables affecting peace durability: whether the ceasefire followed a consistent pattern of battle outcomes; and whether the war was interrupted by third party pressure, resulting in a ceasefire. The primary assumption behind both variables is that if the agreement reflects the belligerents convergent expectations about the military consequences of continuing the war, it will be less likely to fail. Wars interrupted by third party intervention or ended without a clear winner do not reveal enough information about the prospects of continuing fighting and therefore, are more likely to resume. In this paper, the author critically analyzes this article from various perspectives. Although the article is an important contribution to the IR literature on peace, some points in the article require further clarification and research. First, some issues with the two new variables and the way they are coded are discussed. Then, some general points about the conclusions they draw from the data are presented. Variables In my opinion, some aspects of the definition of the variables they introduce are problematic or at least unclear. The battle consistency variable can take a value between 1 and 0. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We now attempt to review what Oliver had presented before the energy summit to understand how attendees perceived Canada s stance on the Keystone XL project. Much of Rickford s work is a continuance of the $650 billion resource development project left by his predecessor, including the challenge of moving the Keystone XL forward amid obstacles. Rickford is expected to follow the energy blueprint that Oliver had presented at the energy conference. Central to Oliver s arguments were the accomplishments of Canada s energy efforts on innovation geared at producing cleaner energy and on harnessing a diversified energy source from oil to recoverable gas, to hydroelectricity and uranium... and then to wind energy as well. To complement government efforts on the consumer level, Oliver also did not fail to mention the $1 billion in grants to get households to retrofit their homes to become energy efficient. Establishing these facts gave Oliver a good start to present his argument in favor of the US Canada collaboration on clean energy, which dialogues, he added started in 2009. This was also the greatest strength of his presentation or of the article.
