Breeding technology of Okra
vsc - 503
Okra is a seed propagated hot weather crop sensitive to frost, low temperature, and waterlogging as well as drought conditions. It is a multipurpose crop due its various uses. It is grown in many countries and cultivars from different countries have certain adapted distinguishing characteristics specific to the country to which they belong. In home consumption India tops the world. Genetic diversity exists for number of characters. Genetic resistance involving interspecific crosses have been exploited commercially for Yellow Vein Mosaic virus. Hybrids are very much popular in this crop and the hybrid seed production is based on hand emasculation and hand pollination. Proper isolation is necessary between two fields of two varieties for maintaining the genetic purity of the stock.
Peach is the temperate region fruit crops. The cultivation of peach requires some specific climatic conditions. It requires some chilling hours to break the dormancy and to become fruit ful. In this presentation, you will get the detail information of ideal peach cultivation, high density planting in peach and much more.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

Unit 8 - Information and Communication Technology (Paper I).pdfThiyagu K
This slides describes the basic concepts of ICT, basics of Email, Emerging Technology and Digital Initiatives in Education. This presentations aligns with the UGC Paper I syllabus.
3. Basics …
Apple is a temperate fruit
Suitable for growing in high ranges
Suitable for Loam soil, sandy loam soil ,silt loam soil
(all with porous and well drained subsoil)
4. Varieties
Crab Apple: Relatively smaller in fruit size. Also differ in leaf colour, growth
habit, flowering time and flower colour. They are drought tolerant
Golden delicious: Fruits –medium to large and oblong. Skin golden yellow
with russetted prominent small dots scattered all over. Flesh creamy white,
firm, crisp, sweet with a blend of acidity. Good polllinizer for all delicious
groups.
Yellow Newton: An old variety. Fruit medium to large and shape is variable.
Usually roundish and oblate. Flesh is yellowish, crisp , tender, moderately fine
grained. Juicy, sub acid and aromatic.
5. Prepare land for Apple cultivation
Pits : 1m wide and 20 cm deep or 60X60X60 cm
Planting distance : 7 -10 m
6. Planting Operations…
Propagating Method : Grafting (Whip and Tongue). Grafting is done on crab
apple seedlings
The grafted plants are planted with graft union above soil level
For effective fruit set, pollinating varieties are inter-planted.
Regularly irrigation should be given for about two years in the initial years.
7. How to apply fertilisers…
NPK Recommendation 30:30:30 gm/plant
In addition, apply 65 gm urea, 167 gm rock phosphate and
50 gm muriate of potash respectively
Fertiliser has to be applied around the plant and
incorporated it through light hoeing.
8. Care …
Irrigate the plant to overcome moisture stress.
Critical water period : April to August
Thinning of fruits is practised to improve fruit colour and
fruit size
Desirable to retain one fruit for every 40 leaves.
9. Pruning…
Pruning and training are important in apple cultivation
One year old plants are cut back at about 80-100 cm above ground
No shoot is retained below 50 cm from the ground
10. When to Harvest…
Apple is a climacteric fruit
Ease in separation of fruits from spur is one indication to harvest
Change in ground surface colour from green to pale is another indication
Seed colour changes to brown on maturity.
11. Harvesting…
Apple fruits should be picked in such a way that bruising and stem punctures
are avoided and pedicel must retain with fruit
Don’t pick immature fruits
Don’t pick over mature fruits
12. Storage
Place seeds in a cool and ventilated place to remove field heat before
packing.
Air cooler, cold water sprinkling or washing with water helps in removal of
field heat
Keeping fruits over-night near the tree basins also removes heat
Fruit surface must be free of moisture before grading , wrapping or packing in
cartons.
Friuts can be stored for 120-150 days at 4-5 degree Celsius
14. Basics…
Requires a temperature range of 11-34 degree Celsius
Annual rainfall of 225-375 cm desirable
Suitable for all soil type
Well drained soil is desirable for better growth
19. Fertiliser Information
500:360:750 gm NPK/Plant
1085 gm urea, 1998 gm rock phosphate, 1252 gm muriate of potash
respectively per plant.
First dose: May to June
Second Dose: August to September
Lime has to be added after two weeks ahead of fertiliser application
21. Training and Pruning…
Pruning is not necessary, but in old trees lower
braches can be cut upto 1 m
22. Flowering and fruiting…
Season : October to November and February to March
Grafted Sapota begin to begin to bear in the third year after planting…
Fruit production increases with age up to 30 years…
23. Harvesting…
Mature fruits , which are dull brown in colour can be harvested
Fruits can be handpicked or harvested with a special harvester
Can be stored for about five days before they are ripened fully for
consumption…
Ripe fruits can be kept for about 5 to 7 days…
