Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is produced in the brain ventricles and flows through the cerebral aqueduct into the subarachnoid space surrounding the brain and spinal cord. Excess CSF is absorbed into blood vessels of the arachnoid villi and drains into the superior sagittal sinus, removing waste while providing buoyancy in the central nervous system.
