Essay On The Bluest Eye
Expectations Women. When hearing that word alone, you think of weakness, their insignificance,
and how lowly they are viewed in society. Females can be seen as unworthy or nothing without a
man if they are not advocating them and are constantly being treated differently from men.
However, in the book, The Bluest Eyeby Toni Morrison, they live up to their reputations for how
they view themselves. Specifically, being focused on women like Pecola, and Claudia. They are
often questioning their worth from society s judgement of beauty. Though one character, Frieda
embraces it despite being black. With having everything temporary, the desire of grasping and
having something permanent increases. The women desires to be of... Show more content on

We will say no. We don t know what we should feel or do if she does, but whenever she asks us,
we know she is offering something precious (Morrison, 24). This quote shows how prepared a
woman is to give up her body in exchange for her life because perhaps she does not value herself
and has gone through many situations like this. This event may lead to female s perspective of
their worth decrease, since they are constantly being abused. In the course of The Bluest Eye,
Pecola Breedlove has shown signs of low self esteem. She would always be the one to compare
herself to something she admires to be beautiful. Perhaps, sometimes problems surround her get
a little too much, she has not yet realized the fog will clear up. For example in the autumn
chapter, a quote has said Thrown, in this way, into the binding conviction that only a miracle
could relieve her, she would never know her beauty. She would only see what there was to see:
the eyes of other people. There is no such thing as a Pecola s point of view . She lives off of
people s judgements and believe physical appearance is all there is to a person. Her desire to be
beautiful is not having attractive long black hair and golden skin color, but blonde hair with a
white pigmentation. Which causes her to dream and want even more. Claudia, another character
who goes through a similar situation compared to Pecola. She is a young girl who came out from a
loving family and is intrusive, yet sensitive.

Exxonmobil Corporate Social Responsibility Essay
Communities and Shareholders: The impact of how ExxonMobil manage their interaction
Exxon Mobil is the world s largest privately owned multi national oil and gas company
(Skjaerseth 2003). For companies as large as ExxonMobil, which possess considerable capital
resources and are able to exert considerable power and influence, society is increasingly
demanding that they behave in a socially responsible manner (Diara, Alilo, and McGuire 2004).
There is a growing expectation that companies will adopt a business approach that illustrates
responsibility to society above and beyond the economic function and legal performance of the firm
(Gibbs 2009). This expectation can be understood as an implicit social contract. One of the

Other activities have included the provision of training in areas such as business entrepreneurship,
management skills and record keeping, plus practical training on farming techniques and livestock
care (MPNCN as cited in Idemudia 2009). From this perspective, it can be seen that the corporation
has endeavoured to improve host communities in a number of instances. Such examples provide
evidence that ExxonMobil s efforts have been aimed at increasing (local) community capacity and
sustainability. By engaging with communities in this way ExxonMobil are able to present
themselves as part of the community. As a consequence there is less likelihood of negative
outcomes for the company s operations including concerns for worker safety and damage to
worksites (Idemudia 2009). Thus, the benefits for the corporation are wide reaching but include an
improvement to corporate reputation through improved relationships with local stakeholders as
they come to accept and identify with the corporation. In addition, to ExxonMobil s credit, they
show a concern for the community beyond that of wealth generation for shareholders. While
ExxonMobil s engagement with communities that are proximal to their operations can often be
described as proactive and

Businesses using this form to retrieve data will be able to harness the power of all data, no
matter how many disparate data sources they have. Self service extends to data prep Self service
data discovery has become the standard, while data prep has remained in the realm of IT and
data experts. According to Paige Schaefer, statistics reflect that self service will extend to data
prep in 2017. Again, common data prep tasks like JSON and HTML imports, data parsing, and
data wrangling will no longer be delegated to data specialists. With new innovations in this
transforming space, it is expected that everyone will be able to tackle these tasks as part of their
analytics flow. Analytics are everywhere, thanks to embedded BI It is said that analytics works
best when it s a natural part of people s workflow. In 2017, analytics will be embedded into
applications people use every day, be it Salesforce or internal portals. This seamless integration
will drive visibility and action on these analytics, often by people who ve never explored data,
like store clerks, call center workers, and truck drivers. IT becomes the data hero IT is now
breaking the monotonous cycle and evolving from producer to enabler. IT is at the rudder of the
transformation to self service analytics at scale. IT is providing the pliability and agility the

First Amendment Right To Wield His Banner Essay
Did Frederick have a First Amendment right to wield his banner, and was Principal Morse in the
right to confiscate his banner? After reviewing the facts of the case, it is without a doubt that
Morse is innocent, of any violations of Frederick s First Amendment rights and she had every
right to confiscate and punish Frederick for his actions. Joseph Frederick, a senior at Juneau
Douglas High School, attended the school approved and school monitored social event of the
Olympic Torch Relay. Frederick was late to school that day, and upon arrival, he joined his
friends (all but one were students at JDHS) across the street from the school to watch the event.
He and his friends unfurled a 14 foot banner with the phrase, BONG HITS 4 JESUS Upon... Show

This banner to some could be seen as offensive, and Morse has the choice to either take action, or
to allow this banner and face consequences. She chose to take action, and uphold the school s
policy. Fredericks banner violated the school s policy. It promoted the use of illegal drugs, and
although Frederick arrived late to school, he still arrived at a school event, monitored by school
officials, who in turn were in charge of him. Schools have the right to confiscate any item that
violates their policies, and Frederick s displaying of his banner was violating a policy. Although
Frederick does have the First Amendment right to wield his banner, the school policy clearly
states that nothing promoting illegal drugs is allowed. If Frederick was attending an event not
approved or monitored by the school, he would have been free to display whatever he wished. Just
because Frederick had the first Amendment right, schools do not have to tolerate any actions or
expressions that could contribute to any dangers of their students, such as illegal drug use. In
conclusion, Principal Morse had the right to take away Frederick s banner, and is innocent of any
violation of Frederick s First Amendment

The language
What is language?
As North Americans living in the early 21st century, we have been educated about language from
the time we entered school. But much of what we learn about language in schools belongs more
to a folk model than to an analytic model of language. Here are several pervasive aspects of our
folk model of language.
Language is a communication system. It is true that we use language to communicate with others.
However, language is much more than a communication system. The most recent thinking about the
nature of language suggests that language is first and foremost a representational system; a system
which provides us with the symbols we need to model for ourselves, to ourselves, inside our heads,
the universe around us. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
not be there not any beer brewed among Estonians There is no beer brewed among the Estonians.
Furthermore, in some languages, like Spanish and Russian, so called double negatives are the rule,
rather than the exception. Note the Spanish and Russian expressions for I don t see anything.
Spanish: Yo no veo nada. I no see nothing
Russian: Ya ne vizhu nichevo.
These are the normal, indeed the only, way of expressing this in Spanish and Russian. If
language worked like formal logic, Spanish and Russian speakers would be suffering from a
permament case of illogic. Since speakers of Spanish and Russian appear to be normal human
beings, we have to conclude that language does not obey the rules of formal logic.
Thus, the rule against double negatives formulated by Bishop Lowth is not a grammar rule, but
rather a social rule having to do with what he considered to be the acceptable use of English.
Language is pure and unchanging. As a conservative society heavily focused on written, rather than
oral, forms of language, we tend to think that change, in language as in many other things, is bad. A
whole industry of language experts such as Edwin Newman and William Safire regularly rant

James Hurst s Short Story The Scarlet Ibis
Imagine having a brother who is incapable of doing anything for himself. James Hurst s short
story tells the tale of a young boy in this position and the way his mindset is. In the short story
The Scarlet Ibis, James Hurst uses imagery, setting, and motif to convey Brother s feelings of guilt.
By using these literary elements, Hurst allows the readers to take a deeper look into Brother s
perception towards Doodle at the time.
Hurst uses imagery to show how Brother feels guilt for causing Doodle to die. I ran as fast as I
could, leaving him far behind with a wall of rain dividing us. Brother remembers when Doodle
says Brother, Brother, Don t leave me! Don t leave me! Brother feels guilt for leaving Doodle
once before. When Brother runs away from Doodle, he is not actually running away from him,
he is running away from the guilt which Doodle causes him to feel. Brother looks at Doodle and
feels guilty for leaving him at a time of trouble before. Hurst uses the rain as a way to symbolize
guilt and sorrow. What are you crying for They did not know that I did it for myself, that pride,
whose slave I was, spoke to me louder than all their voices. In this scene, Hurst shows the guilt in
this scene using imagery by showing us Brother crying. This is Hurst s way of showing us guilt.
When Brother cries, it is because he feels guilty of his motivation. His only reason for helping
Doodle was because he was ashamed of having a crippled brother .

Patient Care Technicians ( Pct )
Patient care technicians (PCT s), formally known as nursing assistants, are the backbone to any
nursing department. They create rapport with the patients and family members, as well as the
nursing and medical staff. Some of the tasks PCT s are responsible for include: obtaining and
recording vital signs, collecting and labeling specimens, blood glucose specimen, and obtaining
electrocardiograms (ECG). All these tasks are important and critical in an emergency. PCT s
designated to work in medical surgical floors may not remember the steps for obtaining a good

Electrode Lead Placement Electrodes must be placed in the correct landmarks to prevent
misinterpretation of the ECG. If the electrodes are placed incorrectly, the ECG may read as ST
changes, electrical axis, location of bundle branch blocks and location of infarcts (Riddle, 2008,
para. 5). During the ECG, a total of 10 electrodes are applied to the patient. Six electrodes (V1
V6) are placed on the anterior chest in the proper anatomical landmarks, and these leads must be
placed precisely for an accurate ECG interpretation. Electrodes V1 and V2 are placed on the
fourth intercostal space with V1 on the right and V2 on the left (Riddle, 2008). Electrodes V3 V6
are placed on the left chest wall on the fifth intercostal space in the following order: V3 to the right
of V4, V4 at the midclavicular line, V5 to the right of V6, V6 to the midaxillary line (Riddle, 2008).
The remaining four electrodes are placed on both upper and lower extremities without touching the
chest.
Objectives for PCT Workshop on ECG placement
The PCT will be able to demonstrate correct lead placement
The PCT will be able to troubleshoot the ECG machine and obtain missing equipment

Little did I know the school pass I received from the office ended up being more than what I had

Analysis Of Octavia Butler s Science Fiction Classic
Bloodchild Analysis Octavia Butler s science fiction classic Bloodchild is the coming of age
story told from the point of view of Gan. The story takes place on an alien planet the very night
that Gan becomes a man. One might expect a highly masculine, ritualistic ceremony or event,
but Butler turns the tables. In order to become a man Gan must be impregnated by an insectoid
like alien named T Gatoi. Cages have often been symbolic in literature as a means of
subjugation, the cages in Bloodchild are imperative to the story in the same way. Through the
explicit use of imagery, metaphor, prose and irony, Butler creates a story reflective of the
sufferings of American Slavery, of life as an African American woman and causes the reader to
reevaluate the way they treat others. Bloodchild has won multiple awards including the Nebula
and Hugo Awards and an award for best science fiction novelette from the Science Fiction
Chronicle (Heifitz). Butler gains literary notability by creating a work so horrifyingly believable,
that is reflective of slavery and discrimination, it is a powerful story that pushes the reader to
thoughts and ideas that might not have otherwise been explored. Similar to how some African
American slaves accepted their treatment, Gan accepts the cages. The first three mentions of cages
come at the beginning of the tale. T Gatoi enters Gan s home, offering gifts. She and Gan embrace
and Gan notices that this action made the others feel caged (Butler 3).

Structural Funcionalism, Conflict Theory, and Symbolic...
In this paper, I will discuss three different schools of thought that, while they may seem to explain
the inner workings of society, by themselves they fail to satisfy completely. For each theory, I will
discuss the basics and cover the main tenants of each. Then, I will discuss the ambiguities,
inadequacies and irrelevance to reality based on our current understanding of modern society.
Structural Functionalism In the Functionalist School of Thought, society is viewed as being a
complex structure of inter related parts, analogous to a living being, with many different organs
contributing to the daily functioning and health of the entire organism. From evolving societies

If we are to look at society as a super organism, then we have to accept that conflict is a vital part
of any organisms future development and evolution. Humans weren t put on this earth
perfected; through biological conflict with the environment and disease, we have evolved into
what we are now. While still not perfect, evolution is still taking place. The same is true for
societies. No one society was born perfect. Society has evolved from the same analogous process
of trial and error, success and failure. While not all conflict is productive, it is necessary to the
evolution of society. Functionalism all but ignores this aspect. Conflict Theory Where the
positivist theory of Structural Functionalism focuses on the rigidity and stability of society,
conflict theories focus on the chaotic, negative and unequal aspects. This perspective is
constructed from the numerous hypotheses of Karl Marx, who saw society as intrinsically
broken, and constantly in a state of disarray with social groups competing for a limited amount
of social capitol and economic resources. According to Marx, society is constructed around two
classes of people: the ruling class and the subject class. Those in the ruling class have a
disproportionately large control over all resources, and use this power to subjugate the lower
classes. This ensures that the ruling class never gives up power, due to the fact that the lower
classes have to struggle to obtain

structured in terms of women in the workforce. She explains in her article Why Women Can t

experiences is very common among women all over the spectrum of the workforce. As a

article, I don t really think Anne Marie is necessarily talking about inequality in the workforce
rather the guilt that women feel when they are not fully involved in their children s life as well
as the perception that women with a high profile job and a family is viewed upon as a
superhuman as she eloquently stated; The women who has both managed to be both mothers and
top professionals are superhuman, rich, or self employed . For women who looked up to Anne

2008 Financial Crisis Analysis
The financial crisis of 2008/2009 was the most serious economic decline since 1929. This paper
will discuss a few of the causes of the crisis, the role the Federal Reserve played in connection with
the three main economic goals, and will then describe traditional and non traditional measures taken
to stimulate the economy. Finally, this essay will relate the government to our present day
economic environment and explain why some economists say that the United States is

The economic and financial crisis of 2008/2009 can be attributed to many things. The main reason
for the crisis can be attributed to the housing industry and the mortgages associated. When

This caused lenders to reduce their standards, giving loans to those who had poor credit and low
income. Predatory lending practices were also used, giving out loans without verifying income.
Additionally, adjustable rate mortgages were offered, which offered payment homeowners could
manage to pay for at first, but expanded beyond what they could continue to pay for. Since these
practices were new, historical data showed that mortgage debt was a safe investment. Investors
continued to dump money into these investments while realistically, these investments were
becoming more risky. (Wallison)
Due to all the investments being made, careless lending requirements, and low interest rates within
the real estate market, housing prices continued to increase. Finally, borrowers started defaulting on
these loans, putting more houses on the market. However, there were not many buyers. Housing
prices began to fall since supply was up and demand was down. Often, mortgages became worth
more than their house was worth. By 2007, large lenders were declaring bankruptcy. They had
invested large amounts of money into the Mortgage Backed Securities and were losing money on
these investments.

education from all directions instead of retrieving knowledge from traditional places like college.
However, college is different because it is not only a place to gain knowledge, but also an
environment that prepares students for the real world. In Davidson s paper, she believes that we
need to change the way higher educationis structured and adapt techniques that are already
integrated within open source media, in order for students to be equipped for the technological
global environment. Instead today s educationis only preparing them for a Taylorized industrial age
labor market. Davidson poses a new paradigmfor the way we perceive modern education. She
introduces three principles that are used in open source media that applicable to higher education.
The three principles that online platforms support are, 1) an openness of contribution, 2)
elimination of boundaries, and 3) voluntarism in the distribution of knowledge. An openness of
contribution of knowledge permits anyone to share their intellect with others, regardless of their
educational background and it also welcomes everybody to participate. Secondly, by eliminating
structures and boundaries on the correctness of knowledge, allows generation of new perspectives
and not constricted by prior knowledge. Thirdly, by creating a

The Importance Of Artistic Appropriation
When it comes to appropriation in artistic practices, I feel as though there are two defining lines
or codes of ethics that relate to the topic in a creative context and with a cultural context artistic
appropriation, the topic of artistic freedom in practices that reference or borrow existing elements
of other work, and cultural appropriation, the issue which spans between being inspired by other
cultural groups to potential exploitation, a lack of representation to a caricaturistic type of racism.
The two types of appropriation are complex, controversial, and often come together to form two
sides of the same argument do we have the right to borrow and if so, from whom and how?
For artistic appropriation, I believe it s okay to appropriate or take elements from other work as
long as one edits the content both physically and contextually and as long as one cites their original
sources.
For cultural appropriation: I generally believe minority voices should tell their own stories but
regardless, one should do their research and appropriate in a way that is authentic, accurate, and
doesn t project stereotypes or other harmful and derogatory content.
By Evelyn McDonnell s definition in, Never Mind the Bollocks: Shepard Fairey s Fight for
Appropriation, Fair Use, and Free Culture, appropriation is a cultural form of explicitly borrowing
from another as a means of commenting and paying tribute, (180) the intentional act of taking to
create or generate new meaning.

of themselves but also other persons who may frequent the premises, such as children and their

Local Governments In Texas
In Texas local governments play a major role in the wellbeing and safety of its citizens. In each
county of Texas there are an average of about 19 general purpose governments, that means that all
the county general purpose local governments combined would be more than 4,800. In the United
States of America all but two states have governmental units known as counties or parishes. County
government is primarily a way of governing rural areas, because Texasis so vast, with huge areas
that are sparsely populated, county government remains an important aspect of local government.

The Gathering Place Shan Jackson Case Summary
Shania Jackson, a woman of strong Christian faith wants to open a coffee shop named The
Gathering Place, on the outskirts of Denver, Colorado. Shania has a lot of issues to consider
before opening her first coffee house. I will take a look at Shania s case and come up with the best
options for her to run a successful business using biblical scripture. First, I would tell Shania she
should create her business organization by sole proprietorship. According to the U.S. Small
Business Administration (n.d.), sole proprietorship is an unincorporated business owned and run by
one individual with no distinction between the business and the own. Due to Shania s husband
Marvin having no interest in contributing to the business, Shania would be the only owner.
However, since Marvin is making a contribution to the capital to the business I would have them
both pray about this decision. With a sole proprietorship, Shania would be entitled to all the
business income, debts, losses and liabilities. Marvin would have to have trust and... Show more

ESV) ? Forming a business partnership with a nonbeliever would be unwise because Christian
practices will not be to importance of them. It is important when forming a business partnership
that your partner acts in good faith and does what is best for the business. If the partner does

Philippine Immigration in the USA after 1990 Essay
The U.S. colonized the Philippines between 1900 and 1934. This had a significant impact on the
mass immigration of the Filipinos. The Filipino immigrants were then made U.S. nationals and
granted the opportunity of settling in the U.S. and protected by its law and constitution. The
increase in demand for labor in California farmlands and Hawaiian plantation led to a surge of
Filipino immigrants seeking these jobs (Abraham 14). They mostly came from the provinces of
Cebu and Ilocos. The demand for labor in these farms was attributed to the exit of the Japanese
work force from the plantations. The immigrants from Philippines mostly comprised of a subgroup

Educating the patient and their family, keeping medical treatment follow ups are very important
and managing the disease. At this time, I go every six months to see my Rheumatologist now. I
previously went every three months when I was diagnosed in 2002. Educating the patient and

knowing that my major would take up all of my units after finishing the general education

curiosity and knowledge of what is available. Instead, I decided to invest my academic career
focusing on engineering. As freshman students began college, many students asked themselves
that oh so common and over beaten life question what is the point of college?, while others
wondered if it was it a place to explore and discover more about one s self. Well now, thanks to
Kwame Anthony Appiah, who teaches philosophy at N.Y.U. and wrote an article What Is the
Point of College?, he explains two visions which are Utility U. and Utopia U. as well as the
habits students possess at the start of college. As students first enter the college world they go

Examples Of Truman Capote s Control Over Language
Capote s Control Over Language
By using vivid sentences with descriptive details and keen word choices, Capote is able to paint
an image of Holcomb as a soft, easygoing town. When working on this novel, Truman Capote
traveled to Holcomb, Kansas to gather information by conducting interviews with the residents
and talking to the police, reading newspapers, and interrogating Hickock and Smith in their jail
cells. His visits, as well as his writing career, give him the proper credibility to write about this
famed town. Capote s rendition of the tragedy of one night on a Kansas farm as he tells it in his
unique literary genre adds to the authenticity of the piece. In 1959, when the Clutter family was

The opening paragraphs of In Cold Blood pack so many details of scenery with its high wheat
plains, white cluster of grain elevators, and hard blue skies down to the direst mud roads that it
reflects the peaceful nature of the town. The words high, white, and blue symbolize purity; even
the mud roads indicate a natural, untainted presence that connotes benevolence. Further, Capote
uses a lot of commas in his writing, for example, he writes, The land is flat, and the views are
awesomely extensive; horses, herds of cattle, a white cluster of grain elevators rising as gracefully
as Greek temples are visible before a traveler reaches them. This further communicates the
monotonous tone of the piece by having longer pauses with the use of commas contributing to a
feeling of tranquility in the town. In addition, unusual comparisons like the grain elevators rising
like Greek temples stimulate the mind to take notice of the description. Immediately, a picture
portrays a time back in history when a simpler time is present where innocence prevails over a
community of people working on their farms like the Greeks building their

Causes Of The Monarch Butterfly
So are we just going to ignore the fact that Monarch Butterflies are in trouble? We re just going to
ignore the fact that we could easily help, but we choose not to?The monarch butterfly is an insect
that relies their life on milkweed plants and is currently facing the problem of milkweed declining,
but it can be solved by planting milkweeds causing the butterflypopulation to increase rapidly.
The Monarch Butterfly is a milkweed butterfly in the family Nymphalidae. It s the most common
butterfly in North America , and is considered an iconic pollinator species .(Conserving Monarch
butterflies And their habitats). The Monarch Butterflies have many nicknames such as, milkweed,
common tiger, wanderer and black veined brown (Danaus).
The Monarch Butterfly s life cycle has four stages, it begins with the egg, the caterpillar, the pupa,
and then it emerges into an Adult butterfly. The female adult monarch butterfly mates with a male
butterfly, and later lays its eggs specifically on a milkweed plant. After the eggs hatch, they turn into
larva. The larva then spins a silky mat which turns into a chrysalis. Finally, the larva merges into an
adult monarch butterfly.
The monarch butterflies differ in migration than the any other species that migrate as well. The
reason why the monarchs are different than other species is that they later come back to their
previous winter location while other species stay.Monarch Butterflies migrate over 300,000 miles,
for they can not stand the harsh cold temperatures. Every fall, they come from northern United
States of America and migrate to southern United States of America, and at times they migrate all
the way down to Mexico. Since monarch butterflies have a complicated life cycle (Migration)
monarchs that have emerged in the winter do not yet reproduce until they re in the summer or
spring season. On the other hand, monarch butterflies that are emerged in the summer or springtime
reproduce rapidly. In addition, it s important for the monarchs to know when they have to migrate to
the south and back to the winter.
Sadly, the monarch butterflies are drastically decreasing due to the fact that the plant they need to
survive, the milkweed plant, is slowly but surely diminishing.

Chemical Synthesis Essay
The TG DSC MS results show that the gas phases play an important role in the mechanism
behind the sol gel autocombustion process. Different fuel oxidant ratios will promote the
formation of different gas components, which will significantly affect the composition and
structure of the final product. To optimize the fuel oxidant ratio, reagents with different fuel
oxidant ratios (0.8:1, 0.9:1, 1:1, 1.1:1, and 1.2:1) were dissolved in deionized water to obtain the
sols. The dried gels were then activated by combustion at a temperature of 300 В°C based on the

(i) different metal oxides are reduced to metals by the reducing gases and then form HEAs as the
building blocks. (ii) different metal oxides form complex multicomponent oxides, followed by in
situ reduction to HEAs by the reducing gases. According to thermodynamics, it is impossible to
obtain metallic aluminum and chromium in the autocombustion process because Al2O3 and
Cr2O3 cannot be reduced to metals by any type of the gases formed in the combustion.
Therefore, the synthesis of CoCrCuNiAl HEAs is through the second route. Recently,
(Co,Cu,Mg,Ni,Zn)O high entropy oxides (HEOs) were synthesized by pyrolyzing nitrates of the
individual metals according to the report of Sarkar et al.25 Similar with HEAs, HEOs containing
five or more metals in equiatomic amounts will be formed because of the high mixing entropy.
Hence, the oxide phase in the XRD patterns of the combustion product with fuel oxidant ratios
less than 1:1 is likely to be (Co,Cr,Cu,Ni,Al)O HEO. In the HEOs, the metallic elements are
bonded together and ordered in thermodynamics to form the structure of A B C D E O (where A,
B, C, D, and E denote the metallic elements and O represents oxygen), as shown in Figure 1f. There
is always an intermediate anion separating neighboring cation lattice sites, and no single component
metal oxide phases exist in the (Co,Cr,Cu,Ni,Al)O HEOs, so that the reduction of Al3+ and Cr3+

Romeo And Juliet Comparative Analysis
Romeo and Juliet has been a popular story for over 400 years, which was written by William
Shakespeare. Two directors created their own interpretations of the play. Franco Zefferelli
directed a version of the play which had many similarities and differences to Baz Luhrmann.
Furthermore, both films have many similar and different interpretations of Mercutio from the
original play. However, Harold Perrineau did a more realistic portrayal of Mercutio s death,
while McEnery demonstrated a more comedic portrayal of Mercutio. In general, McEnery
demonstrates being more comedic than Harold Perrineau. For example, when McEnery decides
to pull up the nurse s dress and decides to make fun of her by singing that she is a prostitute.

Leading up to Mercutio s death in front of Romeo in both films, when Tybalt and Mercutio are

Mercutio are just fighting to fight. After Mercutio is stabbed, Benvolio asks Mercutio if he is
hurt and Mercutio responds with, Ay, ay, a scratch. Marry, tis enough (Shakespeare 3.1.97 100).
During these lines of dialogue, McEnery portrays Mercutio as a jokester because he crawls up
the church steps and falls again, while everyone is laughing at him. Although, in the original
play we know Mercutio jokes around and is never to be taken seriously, Mercutio s death in the
modern film is more believable. Harold Perrineau portrays a more serious death of Mercutio. He
acts more believable as someone actually dying. Mercutio s final moment happens when he gets a
deep cut from a piece of glass during the fight between Tybalt. Mercutio is yelling at Romeo while
he is dying. No one thinks that Mercutio is playing around. This is how Perrineau did an excellent
job at portraying Mercutio s

Cultural Analysis Of South Kore Characteristics That...
Cultural awareness is critical in the operations of TRADOC and the Fires Center of Excellence

evident in the case of general customs, and beliefs of a particular group of time at a particular
time (Sahlins 2013). People of different regions have their own way of routines and this forms the
basic aspect of culture. This paper seeks to prepare a social cultural analysis in the case of South
Korea.
Characteristics that define a culture
Although different scholars have given different definitions of culture, the basic argument is that
culture is a collective heritage learned by individuals and usually passed on from one generation
to another. Culture can be explained by various characteristics but there are five main
characteristics that are common (Johnston 2013). Firstly, culture is usually a learned behavior.
Although not all behaviors are learned majority are learnt either consciously or unconsciously (O
Neil 2012). For example, children learn most of their behavior from their parents which means
that they adopt cultures from the older people in the society. Secondly culture can be described as
abstract in that it exists in the minds or habits of people in a particular society. In other words, in
most cultures there is no explanations as to why people do various activities most of the reasons are

socially and economically, but comes together in the end to purchase a home. Walter and Benetha
learn the value of family toward the end of the play. Benetha denies Walter as a brother after he
looses the large amount money that was going to contribute to her schooling, in a get rich quick
scheme. The family has come together to deny Mr. Lindner racist remarks regarding the home.
Lena youngers dream of the family coming together to purchase a brand new home is now her
reality.

Bruce Springsteen Setting
Designing a cover for the Bruce Springsteen book Born To Run began by researching the book.
Firstly, I listened to the audio book and notated common themes and critical milestones in the life
of the author. From there, I located images, fonts and historical information on the author from
the internet. Sketches were mocked up based on the data that I collected, and I included various
themes as I progressed from one sketch to the next. The thought process for each of the eight
sketches is as follows: The first sketch covers Bruce Springsteen s rock and roll lifestyle. An
image of one of his favorite guitars is pictured and is instantly recognizable to his core fans. The
second sketch features an illustration based on a photograph I found on the internet of Bruce
Springsteen; the photograph is from... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This idea fell a little flat for me, the wheels and sunglass lenses just didn t add up very well. The
eighth sketch I liked the earlier ideas of using mirrors and sunglasses to provide depth of the
character, this time one lens features Bruce Springsteen s family and the other a motorcycle. I
have Bruce positioned on the boardwalk in New Jersey, with the New Jersey skyline in the
background. This is the idea that I selected to move forward with. The eighth sketch was further
developed into a larger drawing with more detail, and the font style of (Franklin) Gothic was
employed. This font is found on the actual Born To Run book, its clean and easy to read and
works well with the subject and design. I scanned the hand drawn artwork into a jpg file and placed
it in an Indesign file. The book title and author s name were added, as was a barcode. Once
complete, a PDF proof was created from the Indesign file. Lastly, all of the files employed during
this creative process were gathered together and placed into a zip

A Unique And Refreshing Adventure
Dope A Unique and Refreshing Adventure ( Movie Review) Dope, directed by Rick Famuyiwa,
is a coming of age story that pays homage to 90s vintage ghetto dramas and destroys all
stereotypes of a teenager coming from the hood. The character, Malcolm (Shameik Moore),
whose entire style, from his classic high top hair cut to his 90s fashioned clothing and shoes,
conveys an obsession with hip hop s golden age, which for Malcolm continued until 2001. This
movie expresses two sides of a geeky high school teenager growing up in the tough parts of
Inglewood and having interests and hobbies that are not typically seen in a tough urban movie.
It also shows counterstereotypic situations that usually would not be depicted with these
characters. Rick Famuyiwa s Movie, Dope, first breaks down the conformality of society and
the way people think, then place the broken pieces together in a way to make the audience see
life in different perspectives which, honestly, makes this movie unlike any other 90s based movie
that we have all come to know as repetitive. The movie s first few seconds is one that gives an
overview of what is to come throughout the movie. It starts off with several definitions of dope,
those being someone who is portrayed as unintelligent, an illegal substance, and an American slang
that can be closely related to the term cool. All three powerful definitions expresses something edgy
about the movie. For instance, the main climax of the movie is about Malcolm and his

How Is Harry Potter Related To Religion
The mind is not a book, to be opened at will and examined at leisure. Thoughts are not etched on
the inside of skulls, to be perused by an invader. The mind is a complex and many layered thing.
(Severus Snape, Book five.) The book series entitled Harry Potter has Biblical themes hidden
beneath all of the spells, charms, and enchantments. Harry Potter, in my own opinion, is very Christ
like and I feel like the book series could be looked at like a modernized version of the bible. He
resembles Jesus Christ in multiple ways. J.K Rowling has subtly featured religious symbolism in
her books such as, Harry dying for the wizarding world much like Jesus died willingly for our sins.

The presence of a phoenix reinforces the underlying theme of conquering death by embracing life,
just like Harry and Jesus did.
Harry and Jesus know a lot about Sacrifice and selflessness. All of the characters in the Harry
Potter series experiences sacrificial love. Hermione Granger, one of Harry s two sidekicks
throughout his school years, has to obliviate her parents minds because she doesn t want them
getting hurt. Her mother and father are both muggles, therefore Voldemort would find them and
murder them. Ronald Weasley, Harry s other sidekick, sacrifices himself in a game of Wizard s
Chess for Hermione and Harry in their first year at Hogwarts. Dobby the house elf, who has saved
Harry s life on many occasion, sacrificed his life to save Harry, Ron, Hermione, Luna Lovegood
and Mr. Olivander out of pure love and friendship. Harry s mother and father, Lily and James
Potter, sacrificed their selves for their only son just like Jesus Christ sacrificed his body for us and
he sacrificed his life on earth for us. Both Harry and Jesus did such a selfless thing for the people
they loved and cared for.
Every character from the bible resembles a person from the bible. Harry resembles Jesus because
he s the chosen one who died willingly for the people of the wizarding world. The D.A.

Executive summary
Racial Profiling is a big problem is society. Over time you become biased of certain groups which is
good and bad. Criminal profiling helps keep the bad guys off the streets. This maybe be also linked
with being racist according to the people stopped by police. As a police officer you never win
because no one wants to go to jail. It is very hard to Racial Profiling Vs Criminal Profiling Racism
is defined as the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to
that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races. We live
in a nation mixed with many ethnicities, we are known as the melting pot of the world.
Everyone that was born here has a family member that immigrated here from a different country
unless they are of Native American decent. Often times people are stopped by police because of
their race even if they are not doing anything wrong. Many times when they are stopped by police
and they did do something wrong they swear up and down to the District Attorney or judge that
the cop was racially profiling him or her. Being a Police officer isn t easy. You see many things
that the public does not and this leads to high stress levels. Racism isn t something you are born
with it is taught throughout your life. During the NYPD Academy there is a

How Is Technology Changing Tv Narrative
As Alan Coren once joked, Television is more interesting than people. If it were not, we would
have people standing in the corners of our rooms ( Alan Coren Quotes ). From Good Morning
America to Gossip Girl, television offers its viewers an immense variety of programs to keep its
audience not only entertained but also glued to their TV set for hours everyday. Throughout his
video, How is Technology Changing TV Narrative, Mike Rugnetta uses a multitude of comedic
examples to argue that televisionnarratives are more complex today because of time shifting
technology. Mike Rugnetta is the host of the Idea Channel, a PBS web series, as well as a
performance lecturer for Meme Factory where he educates people about the Internet ( Mike
Rugnetta: Ask Meme Another ). In his Idea Channel videos, Rugnetta is able to use unconventional
methods to educate his audience. Although pop up cartoons and comedic input weakens his
organization, Rugnetta s style of interaction engages his audience effectively through his ability to
address his audience s questions and make the audience understand the information through humor.
Rugnetta s use of pop up cartoons and humor allows him to take complex theories and make them
simpler for his audience to understand. Rugnetta s idea that TV shows are written in series rather
than episodes today because of new time shifting technology can not only be uninteresting but also
puzzling for his viewers. However, Rugnetta introduces this idea by suggesting

Leadership and Managerial Approaches to Magnet Status...
Introduction
Magnet hospitals are named for their potential to attract and retain qualified nurses. Magnet
hospitals are facilities that have been certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center for
promoting positive patient outcomes through best practices in nursing (Upenieks, 2003). The
Magnet environment fosters autonomy and professional nursing practice. Research shows that
Magnet hospitals have better work environments, a more highly educated nursing workforce,
superior nurse to patient staffing ratios, and higher nurse satisfaction than non Magnet hospitals
(Aiken, Kelly, McHugh, 2011). Implementation of that environment requires the ability to create
trust, accountability, and open communication in changing times. ... Show more content on

Leadership traits associated with nurse executives are honesty, credibility, supportiveness, visibility,
and flexibility. Nurse executives analyze nursing functions and empower nurses through
participatory decision making, shared governance, and employee involvement. Nurse executives
share the vision and goals of the hospital and promote application of a nursing theory into the
nursing care delivery system. They anticipate the future of health care and nursing and serve as
monitor, role model, and preceptor to lower level management (Upeniecks, 2003). Nurse executives
in the Magnet program are required to have advance practice degrees with certification in their
specialty (ANCC). Understanding evidence based management and enabling the use of evidence
based knowledge provides the nurse executive with the tools to improve patient outcomes. The
transformational leader will remove barriers to improvement and encourage outcome based
thinking. While nurse leaders are charged with questioning the status quo, nurse managers in the
transformational approach to leadership are charged with maintaining the status quo.
Transformational Leadership and the Nurse Manager
Leadership and management serve distinct purposes with certain overlaps. The transformational
style manager is focused on maintaining the vision, reducing the resistance to change, and
implementation of

Gangster Genre In The Film Goodfellas By Martin Scorsese
The America gangster genre were life lessons that faced social issues and revealed the reality of
materialism. The typological characteristics in the gangster films were stories being told from a
criminal s point of view. Most gangster protagonists in the films are born outsider, immigrants, or
other groups who continues to be treated as outsiders. The gangster genre illustrates immigrants and
nativists who had different perspectives about what is the American Dream . The history of the
gangster genre is difficult to define, because there are several overlaps with gangster genre among
other filmgenre styles. The confirmation of what is a true gangster film involves the gangster
protagonist telling their story.

An African American gangster film, known as a gangsta film is about a heroin dealer name Frank
Lucas. Lucas organized crime in Harlem during the late 1960 s and early 1970 s. His tactics were
cutting out the middlemen in the drug trade and buying heroin directly from his source in
Southeast Asia. Then he proceeded to smuggle the heroin from Vietnam to the U.S. by using the
coffins of dead American servicemen (Frank, web). Another film called, Boardwalk Empire who
added a political dimension, continuing the gangster genre s focus on the fragility of the American
Dream by the links it made noticeable among family, crime, and national and local politics
(Friedman, 422).
The American Dream is an illusion and the gangster genre showed those illusions in an
entertainment point of view. The gangster protagonists all were searching for a better life. Their
perceptions of the American Dream were someone being on top with money and power. Most of
the protagonists were immigrants who wanted to be a part of society that held barriers against
them. The gangster genre films allow the audience to see that Americans tend to lose their grip on
reality as they pursue their desires for success. Every gangster film s protagonist has their own
perspective about the American

Walt Disney Company Essay
The Walt Disney Company is currently known as being one of the biggest and most famous
entertainment and animation companies in the world with international amusement parks and an
outstanding animation studio as well as a business franchise. It was founded in 1923 as a cartoon
studio in Kansas City and its mission is to Make people happy .
The Walt DisneyCompany history started when Ub Iwerks and Walter Elias Disney, after being
fired from their previous job as drawing board artists, decided to open their own studio, which they
called the Iwerks Disney.
Once the idea of opening the studio was finalized, Walt decided that he wanted to transform the

Another reason given by Walt to change the name of the company was the fact that if the name was
Walt Disney Studios, his name would appear on the animations that he had created.)
Secondly, Walt Disney decided to move into a bigger studio that was built on Hyperion Avenue in
1926. It was in that studio that Walt Disney along with his staff in order to overcome the crisis that
the company was feeling after the Alice Comedies circumstance, that he designed a new character
and gave him a personality that endeared him to all, Mickey Mouse .
After the development and success of the new character, Walt Disney Studios became a global
reference. ( Mickey Mouse was actually going to be called Mortimer Mouse . However, Lillian
Disney, Walt s wife, did not like the name Mortimer because it was too depressing so they
changed it into Mickey because it was a happy and friendly name .) That is the reason why Walt
Disney always stated that It all started with a mouse . Initially, Walt was unable to sell the first two
Mickey Mouse cartoons because they were silent films. Therefore, they made a third Mickey Mouse
cartoon, this time with fully synchronized sound, the Steamboat Willie, which premiered at the
Colony Theater in New York on the 18th of November 1928 and became a tremendous

The Quality Of A Person s Relationships With Their...
This research is designed to answer the following question: Does the quality of a person s
relationships with their parents and with their peers influence the extent to which that person
engages in marijuana use? Data for this study come from the [seventh wave of the] National Youth
Survey (NYS). The NYS is a nationally representative, longitudinal survey of 1,725 U.S. youth
between the ages of 11 and 17 at the time of the first interview in early 1977. Respondents were
interviewed annually through 1981 (Waves 1 5) and then again in 1984 (Wave 6) and 1987 (Wave
7). By the last wave of interviews, respondents were between the ages of 21 and 27 years (King
South, 2011, p. 107). The variables used consisted of two independent variables, Perceived
Disapproval by Parents Towards Deviance and Perceived Disapproval by Peers Towards Deviance,
and the dependent variable of Marijuana Use. The variable Perceived Disapproval by Parents was
operationalized by creating a composite variable from the following questions: PARENTS OPIN:

The Characteristic Success In Outliers By Malcolm Gladwell
In the book Outliers, Malcolm Gladwell says extraordinary success is not about how hard a person
works, but it is really the hidden advantages and extraordinary opportunities and cultural legacies
(Gladwell 19). While a person s background and opportunities are important in a person s success, it
is not until a person chooses to take advantage of the opportunities they have been given can they
truly become successful. Many groups that Gladwell mentions in Outlierssuch as Ted Friedman, the
Beatles, and Robert Oppenheimer became achieved all their accomplishments because they took
advantage of the opportunities they were given.
[Ted Friedman was a Jewish litigator from New York. He succeeded because he took advantage
of the demographic luck presented to him.] Ted Friedman was able to go to one of the best
schools at that time, University of Michigan, because he happened to come along at a time in
America when if you were willing to work hard, you could take responsibility for yourself and
put yourself through school, (Gladwell 137). Even though Ted Friedman s family was poor
during the time he was trying to go to college, he did not just accept going to the free City
College if he would rather be at the University of Michigan. This inspired him to get a job to pay
for college, and he was able to since he was born during a demographic trough so many places were
looking for hardworking people like Ted Friedman. Ted Friedman could have just gone to the free

Break Down Carbohydrates
Carbohydrates are one of the main types of macronutrients that move throughout the digestive
system. Starting inside of the mouth, the carbohydrate travels through the body until it gets broken
down. The mouth has two forms of digestion, mechanical or chemical. Mechanical digestion
includes chewing food, while chemical digestionuses saliva. The salivary glands belong to the
accessory organs of the digestive tract, but play a very important role in digestion. They produce
amylase, which breaks down the starch amylose and amylopectin into smaller portions. Breaking
down starch, is an example of where chemical digestion occurs in the mouth. When carbohydrates
go through the esophagus, mechanical digestion takes place by the use of peristalsis.... Show more

Fiber is the only remaining carbohydrate that travels inside of the large intestine. The body
eliminates the leftover fiber in stool. Just like carbohydrates, fats also travel through the digestive
tract. The only organ not involved with fats is the large intestine. Beginning in the mouth,
chemical digestion occurs due to the lingual lipase melting some of the fat in the food. Once the
food enters the esophagus, chemical and mechanical digestion takes place. Like discussed earlier,
peristalsis mixes the food, but in this case it involves mixing the fat with gastric juices.
Chemically, gastric lipase breaks down the fats. Before the fat can move to the small intestine, a
few important accessory organs play a role with fat and bile. Bile is produced in the liver, and then
sent to the gallbladder. Once in the gallbladder, the bile gets released into the small intestine. The
small intestine, helps the bile emulsify the fat into small globules. Lastly, pancreatic lipase, from
the pancreas breaks down the fats into monoglycerides, glycerol, and free fatty

  • 2. Essay On The Bluest Eye Expectations Women. When hearing that word alone, you think of weakness, their insignificance, and how lowly they are viewed in society. Females can be seen as unworthy or nothing without a man if they are not advocating them and are constantly being treated differently from men. However, in the book, The Bluest Eyeby Toni Morrison, they live up to their reputations for how they view themselves. Specifically, being focused on women like Pecola, and Claudia. They are often questioning their worth from society s judgement of beauty. Though one character, Frieda embraces it despite being black. With having everything temporary, the desire of grasping and having something permanent increases. The women desires to be of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We will say no. We don t know what we should feel or do if she does, but whenever she asks us, we know she is offering something precious (Morrison, 24). This quote shows how prepared a woman is to give up her body in exchange for her life because perhaps she does not value herself and has gone through many situations like this. This event may lead to female s perspective of their worth decrease, since they are constantly being abused. In the course of The Bluest Eye, Pecola Breedlove has shown signs of low self esteem. She would always be the one to compare herself to something she admires to be beautiful. Perhaps, sometimes problems surround her get a little too much, she has not yet realized the fog will clear up. For example in the autumn chapter, a quote has said Thrown, in this way, into the binding conviction that only a miracle could relieve her, she would never know her beauty. She would only see what there was to see: the eyes of other people. There is no such thing as a Pecola s point of view . She lives off of people s judgements and believe physical appearance is all there is to a person. Her desire to be beautiful is not having attractive long black hair and golden skin color, but blonde hair with a white pigmentation. Which causes her to dream and want even more. Claudia, another character who goes through a similar situation compared to Pecola. She is a young girl who came out from a loving family and is intrusive, yet sensitive. ... Exxonmobil Corporate Social Responsibility Essay Communities and Shareholders: The impact of how ExxonMobil manage their interaction Exxon Mobil is the world s largest privately owned multi national oil and gas company (Skjaerseth 2003). For companies as large as ExxonMobil, which possess considerable capital resources and are able to exert considerable power and influence, society is increasingly demanding that they behave in a socially responsible manner (Diara, Alilo, and McGuire 2004). There is a growing expectation that companies will adopt a business approach that illustrates responsibility to society above and beyond the economic function and legal performance of the firm (Gibbs 2009). This expectation can be understood as an implicit social contract. One of the underlying... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Other activities have included the provision of training in areas such as business entrepreneurship, management skills and record keeping, plus practical training on farming techniques and livestock care (MPNCN as cited in Idemudia 2009). From this perspective, it can be seen that the corporation has endeavoured to improve host communities in a number of instances. Such examples provide evidence that ExxonMobil s efforts have been aimed at increasing (local) community capacity and sustainability. By engaging with communities in this way ExxonMobil are able to present themselves as part of the community. As a consequence there is less likelihood of negative outcomes for the company s operations including concerns for worker safety and damage to worksites (Idemudia 2009). Thus, the benefits for the corporation are wide reaching but include an improvement to corporate reputation through improved relationships with local stakeholders as they come to accept and identify with the corporation. In addition, to ExxonMobil s credit, they show a concern for the community beyond that of wealth generation for shareholders. After reviewing the facts of the case, it is without a doubt that Morse is innocent, of any violations of Frederick s First Amendment rights and she had every right to confiscate and punish Frederick for his actions. Joseph Frederick, a senior at Juneau Douglas High School, attended the school approved and school monitored social event of the Olympic Torch Relay. Frederick was late to school that day, and upon arrival, he joined his friends (all but one were students at JDHS) across the street from the school to watch the event. This banner to some could be seen as offensive, and Morse has the choice to either take action, or to allow this banner and face consequences. She chose to take action, and uphold the school s policy. Fredericks banner violated the school s policy. It promoted the use of illegal drugs, and although Frederick arrived late to school, he still arrived at a school event, monitored by school officials, who in turn were in charge of him. Schools have the right to confiscate any item that violates their policies, and Frederick s displaying of his banner was violating a policy. Although Frederick does have the First Amendment right to wield his banner, the school policy clearly states that nothing promoting illegal drugs is allowed. If Frederick was attending an event not approved or monitored by the school, he would have been free to display whatever he wished. Just because Frederick had the first Amendment right, schools do not have to tolerate any actions or expressions that could contribute to any dangers of their students, such as illegal drug use. But much of what we learn about language in schools belongs more to a folk model than to an analytic model of language. Here are several pervasive aspects of our folk model of language. Language is a communication system. It is true that we use language to communicate with others. However, language is much more than a communication system. The most recent thinking about the nature of language suggests that language is first and foremost a representational system; a system which provides us with the symbols we need to model for ourselves, to ourselves, inside our heads, the universe around us. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... not be there not any beer brewed among Estonians There is no beer brewed among the Estonians. Furthermore, in some languages, like Spanish and Russian, so called double negatives are the rule, rather than the exception. Note the Spanish and Russian expressions for I don t see anything. Spanish: Yo no veo nada. I no see nothing Russian: Ya ne vizhu nichevo. These are the normal, indeed the only, way of expressing this in Spanish and Russian. If language worked like formal logic, Spanish and Russian speakers would be suffering from a permament case of illogic. Since speakers of Spanish and Russian appear to be normal human beings, we have to conclude that language does not obey the rules of formal logic. Thus, the rule against double negatives formulated by Bishop Lowth is not a grammar rule, but rather a social rule having to do with what he considered to be the acceptable use of English. Language is pure and unchanging. As a conservative society heavily focused on written, rather than oral, forms of language, we tend to think that change, in language as in many other things, is bad. • 10. James Hurst s Short Story The Scarlet Ibis Imagine having a brother who is incapable of doing anything for himself. James Hurst s short story tells the tale of a young boy in this position and the way his mindset is. In the short story The Scarlet Ibis, James Hurst uses imagery, setting, and motif to convey Brother s feelings of guilt. By using these literary elements, Hurst allows the readers to take a deeper look into Brother s perception towards Doodle at the time. Hurst uses imagery to show how Brother feels guilt for causing Doodle to die. I ran as fast as I could, leaving him far behind with a wall of rain dividing us. Brother remembers when Doodle says Brother, Brother, Don t leave me! Don t leave me! Brother feels guilt for leaving Doodle once before. When Brother runs away from Doodle, he is not actually running away from him, he is running away from the guilt which Doodle causes him to feel. Brother looks at Doodle and feels guilty for leaving him at a time of trouble before. Hurst uses the rain as a way to symbolize guilt and sorrow. What are you crying for They did not know that I did it for myself, that pride, whose slave I was, spoke to me louder than all their voices. In this scene, Hurst shows the guilt in this scene using imagery by showing us Brother crying. This is Hurst s way of showing us guilt. When Brother cries, it is because he feels guilty of his motivation. His only reason for helping Doodle was because he was ashamed of having a crippled brother . ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As a sophomore, I knew that most of the passes were for guidance appointments or doctor s appointment. After the pass was handed to me, several thoughts ran through my mind. What is this pass for? Maybe this is just for an appointment I had completely forgotten about. Or could I be in trouble? • 16. Analysis Of Octavia Butler s Science Fiction Classic Bloodchild Analysis Octavia Butler s science fiction classic Bloodchild is the coming of age story told from the point of view of Gan. The story takes place on an alien planet the very night that Gan becomes a man. One might expect a highly masculine, ritualistic ceremony or event, but Butler turns the tables. In order to become a man Gan must be impregnated by an insectoid like alien named T Gatoi. Cages have often been symbolic in literature as a means of subjugation, the cages in Bloodchild are imperative to the story in the same way. Through the explicit use of imagery, metaphor, prose and irony, Butler creates a story reflective of the sufferings of American Slavery, of life as an African American woman and causes the reader to reevaluate the way they treat others. Bloodchild has won multiple awards including the Nebula and Hugo Awards and an award for best science fiction novelette from the Science Fiction Chronicle (Heifitz). Butler gains literary notability by creating a work so horrifyingly believable, that is reflective of slavery and discrimination, it is a powerful story that pushes the reader to thoughts and ideas that might not have otherwise been explored. Similar to how some African American slaves accepted their treatment, Gan accepts the cages. The first three mentions of cages come at the beginning of the tale. T Gatoi enters Gan s home, offering gifts. She and Gan embrace and Gan notices that this action made the others feel caged (Butler 3). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. Structural Funcionalism, Conflict Theory, and Symbolic... In this paper, I will discuss three different schools of thought that, while they may seem to explain the inner workings of society, by themselves they fail to satisfy completely. For each theory, I will discuss the basics and cover the main tenants of each. Then, I will discuss the ambiguities, inadequacies and irrelevance to reality based on our current understanding of modern society. Structural Functionalism In the Functionalist School of Thought, society is viewed as being a complex structure of inter related parts, analogous to a living being, with many different organs contributing to the daily functioning and health of the entire organism. If we are to look at society as a super organism, then we have to accept that conflict is a vital part of any organisms future development and evolution. Humans weren t put on this earth perfected; through biological conflict with the environment and disease, we have evolved into what we are now. While still not perfect, evolution is still taking place. The same is true for societies. No one society was born perfect. Society has evolved from the same analogous process of trial and error, success and failure. While not all conflict is productive, it is necessary to the evolution of society. Functionalism all but ignores this aspect. Conflict Theory Where the positivist theory of Structural Functionalism focuses on the rigidity and stability of society, conflict theories focus on the chaotic, negative and unequal aspects. This perspective is constructed from the numerous hypotheses of Karl Marx, who saw society as intrinsically broken, and constantly in a state of disarray with social groups competing for a limited amount of social capitol and economic resources. According to Marx, society is constructed around two classes of people: the ruling class and the subject class. Those in the ruling class have a disproportionately large control over all resources, and use this power to subjugate the lower classes. This ensures that the ruling class never gives up power, due to the fact that the lower classes have to struggle to obtain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

According to pureresearch.org, women are more likely than men to adjust their career in order to take care of their family. Anne Marie Slaughter s article has given me a lot of insight on how America is structured in terms of women in the workforce. She explains in her article Why Women Can t Have It All , the difficulty of keeping a high profile job while taking care of her family. Her experiences is very common among women all over the spectrum of the workforce. As a feminist her article has touched a very sensitive issue. Many people sees the article as a slap in the face or a step backwards in the fight for women rights, however upon examination of the article, I don t really think Anne Marie is necessarily talking about inequality in the workforce rather the guilt that women feel when they are not fully involved in their children s life as well as the perception that women with a high profile job and a family is viewed upon as a superhuman as she eloquently stated; The women who has both managed to be both mothers and top professionals are superhuman, rich, or self employed . In Davidson s paper, she believes that we need to change the way higher educationis structured and adapt techniques that are already integrated within open source media, in order for students to be equipped for the technological global environment. Instead today s educationis only preparing them for a Taylorized industrial age labor market. Davidson poses a new paradigmfor the way we perceive modern education. The three principles that online platforms support are, 1) an openness of contribution, 2) elimination of boundaries, and 3) voluntarism in the distribution of knowledge. An openness of contribution of knowledge permits anyone to share their intellect with others, regardless of their educational background and it also welcomes everybody to participate. The Importance Of Artistic Appropriation When it comes to appropriation in artistic practices, I feel as though there are two defining lines or codes of ethics that relate to the topic in a creative context and with a cultural context artistic appropriation, the topic of artistic freedom in practices that reference or borrow existing elements of other work, and cultural appropriation, the issue which spans between being inspired by other cultural groups to potential exploitation, a lack of representation to a caricaturistic type of racism. The two types of appropriation are complex, controversial, and often come together to form two sides of the same argument do we have the right to borrow and if so, from whom and how? For artistic appropriation, I believe it s okay to appropriate or take elements from other work as long as one edits the content both physically and contextually and as long as one cites their original sources. For cultural appropriation: I generally believe minority voices should tell their own stories but regardless, one should do their research and appropriate in a way that is authentic, accurate, and doesn t project stereotypes or other harmful and derogatory content. By Evelyn McDonnell s definition in, Never Mind the Bollocks: Shepard Fairey s Fight for Appropriation, Fair Use, and Free Culture, appropriation is a cultural form of explicitly borrowing from another as a means of commenting and paying tribute, (180) the intentional act of taking to create or generate new meaning. ... The Monarch Butterfly is a milkweed butterfly in the family Nymphalidae. It s the most common butterfly in North America , and is considered an iconic pollinator species .(Conserving Monarch butterflies And their habitats). The Monarch Butterflies have many nicknames such as, milkweed, common tiger, wanderer and black veined brown (Danaus). The Monarch Butterfly s life cycle has four stages, it begins with the egg, the caterpillar, the pupa, and then it emerges into an Adult butterfly. The female adult monarch butterfly mates with a male butterfly, and later lays its eggs specifically on a milkweed plant. After the eggs hatch, they turn into larva. The larva then spins a silky mat which turns into a chrysalis. Finally, the larva merges into an adult monarch butterfly. The monarch butterflies differ in migration than the any other species that migrate as well. The reason why the monarchs are different than other species is that they later come back to their previous winter location while other species stay.Monarch Butterflies migrate over 300,000 miles, for they can not stand the harsh cold temperatures. Every fall, they come from northern United States of America and migrate to southern United States of America, and at times they migrate all the way down to Mexico. Since monarch butterflies have a complicated life cycle (Migration) monarchs that have emerged in the winter do not yet reproduce until they re in the summer or spring season. On the other hand, monarch butterflies that are emerged in the summer or springtime reproduce rapidly. In addition, it s important for the monarchs to know when they have to migrate to the south and back to the winter. Different fuel oxidant ratios will promote the formation of different gas components, which will significantly affect the composition and structure of the final product. To optimize the fuel oxidant ratio, reagents with different fuel oxidant ratios (0.8:1, 0.9:1, 1:1, 1.1:1, and 1.2:1) were dissolved in deionized water to obtain the sols. (ii) different metal oxides form complex multicomponent oxides, followed by in situ reduction to HEAs by the reducing gases. According to thermodynamics, it is impossible to obtain metallic aluminum and chromium in the autocombustion process because Al2O3 and Cr2O3 cannot be reduced to metals by any type of the gases formed in the combustion. Therefore, the synthesis of CoCrCuNiAl HEAs is through the second route. Recently, (Co,Cu,Mg,Ni,Zn)O high entropy oxides (HEOs) were synthesized by pyrolyzing nitrates of the individual metals according to the report of Sarkar et al.25 Similar with HEAs, HEOs containing five or more metals in equiatomic amounts will be formed because of the high mixing entropy. Hence, the oxide phase in the XRD patterns of the combustion product with fuel oxidant ratios less than 1:1 is likely to be (Co,Cr,Cu,Ni,Al)O HEO. In the HEOs, the metallic elements are bonded together and ordered in thermodynamics to form the structure of A B C D E O (where A, B, C, D, and E denote the metallic elements and O represents oxygen), as shown in Figure 1f. • 43. A Unique And Refreshing Adventure Dope A Unique and Refreshing Adventure ( Movie Review) Dope, directed by Rick Famuyiwa, is a coming of age story that pays homage to 90s vintage ghetto dramas and destroys all stereotypes of a teenager coming from the hood. The character, Malcolm (Shameik Moore), whose entire style, from his classic high top hair cut to his 90s fashioned clothing and shoes, conveys an obsession with hip hop s golden age, which for Malcolm continued until 2001. This movie expresses two sides of a geeky high school teenager growing up in the tough parts of Inglewood and having interests and hobbies that are not typically seen in a tough urban movie. It also shows counterstereotypic situations that usually would not be depicted with these characters. Rick Famuyiwa s Movie, Dope, first breaks down the conformality of society and the way people think, then place the broken pieces together in a way to make the audience see life in different perspectives which, honestly, makes this movie unlike any other 90s based movie that we have all come to know as repetitive. The movie s first few seconds is one that gives an overview of what is to come throughout the movie. It starts off with several definitions of dope, those being someone who is portrayed as unintelligent, an illegal substance, and an American slang that can be closely related to the term cool. Fiber is the only remaining carbohydrate that travels inside of the large intestine. The body eliminates the leftover fiber in stool. Just like carbohydrates, fats also travel through the digestive tract. The only organ not involved with fats is the large intestine. Like discussed earlier, peristalsis mixes the food, but in this case it involves mixing the fat with gastric juices. Chemically, gastric lipase breaks down the fats.
