The Ethical Imperative Of Recovery Oriented Practices
The aim of the assignment is to critique two research articles; Mental illness and wellbeing: the central
importance of positive psychology and recovery approached (Slade, 2010) and Preserving the Person:
The Ethical Imperative of Recovery Oriented Practices (Atterbury , 2014)and its impact on practice.
For both articles the dominant theme which runs through is recovery.
There is no exact meaning of recovery in mental health. Professional meaning of recovery
differentiate between clinical recovery, where there is no symptoms, and social recovery, where one
live on their own even if symptoms continue (Social Care Institute for Excellence 2007). Recovery is
the process of coming back to a normal state. Other meanings see the growth of people controlling
their own life and the taking of responsibility for one s own behaviour and well being as the basis of
recovery. (Anthony, 1993)
Objectives
The objectives of this essay are to critique the authors credentials, compare and critique the articles,
discuss amongst other things such as language, structure and style. Discuss my criticism about the
article, which one is better and why and the impact of the article on practice.

Long Term Species Is The Main Goal Of Conservation Biology
1.1 Conservation genetics
Long term species persistence is the main goal of conservation biology, and this has been associated
with maintenance of species evolutionary potential (Hamrick et al. 1991), which in turn, is not
unconnected with higher levels of genetic variation in the focal species (Frankel and Soule 1981).
Therefore, the field of conservation genetics, defined as the application of molecular genetic
techniques to the conservation of biodiversity (Frankham 2010), was introduced for accurate
understanding of genetic diversity in a focal taxa, and how this can be maintained or amplified, in
order to ensure species persistence, even in a changing environment.
Population genetic theory (Wright 1969) suggests that small isolated populations will undergo genetic
drift, inbreeding and reduced gene flow, resulting in loss of intra population genetic variation,
increased genetic differentiation among populations, inbreeding depression and loss of fitness (Barrett
and Kohn 1991), leading to extirpation (Reed and Frankham 2003). This is also corroborated from
ecological theory that predicted that small populations with small geographical range and poor
dispersal capacity have higher extinction risk (Belovsky et al. 1999). Consequently, population size is
one of the most important criteria in IUCN criteria for red listing of threatened species (Mace et al.
2008).
Previous studies support the prediction of population genetic theory that rare plant species will exhibit

Imma Grese Is Evil
Irma Grese: Why She Was So Evil Was Irma Grese as bad as the survivors from Auschwitz made her
out to be, or were there two interpretations to her brutality? Although Irma Grese hadn t spent much
time being an SS Officer (SS is short for Schutzstaffel, which is German for protective shield ), Grese
chose to be cruel and sadistic toward the female prisoners. Irma Grese had been a savage in ways that
most people can t even imagine. The way that she treated the prisoners from the Concentration Camps
is completely atrocious. Grese was just one of many female SS Officers but, she was definitely one of
the most cold blooded human beings whose actions were recorded in history. Very little was known
about Irma Grese leading up to her initiation to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During this period of her life Grese had become a unmerciful person with her cruel and ruthless
actions toward the prisoners in Bergen Belsen. Irma Grese had received many different nicknames
throughout the course of her time as an officer, including Beautiful Beastess , Blond Angel of Death ,
Blond Angel From Hell , and Hyena of Auschwitz . An anonymous inmate from the Bergen Belsen
Concentration Camp said that, Grese was very beautiful and extremely evil . There are several reasons
as to how Grese acquired her nicknames. Some of those being that she would carry a whip and a pistol
with her at all times and enjoyed shooting prisoners in cold blood. Irma Grese would also pick people
of her sexual interest to endure the gas chambers that would kill the prisoners. A specific incident that
occurred is one of which a previous prisoner, Szafran, had recited during an interview that said at
Auschwitz during a selection two girls jumped out of a window and Irma Grese had shot them while
they were lying on the ground, but of course Grese would deny the accusation of shooting any

Good health is one of the main ingredients ensuring a person s physical, psychological, social and
spiritual weal and quality of life during old age. Good Health is a precious s gift of God and it is also
an important for the human being to combat the challenges of the society. In the world there are many
countries which are starving for the adequate provision of basic health care services for the old age
persons these countries are mainly third world countries the status of health of the older people are
very poor as compared to the people living in the developed countries because due to the difference in
the health care system. There are so many insatative taken by the international community for the
betterment of health of the old aged people among these steps the Madrid international action plan
2002 was the main mile stone for the development of geriatric people in the world. The Madrid
international plan of action offers a solid agenda that how to handle the issue of ageing in 21 century
in the world the plan emphasises on the three important areas: older persons and development,
Advancing health and well being into old age and ensuring enabling and supportive environments.
The population of old aged persons (over 60 years of age) will be double in the world in 2025 and it is
estimated that 15% of world population will be old aged in 2025. In 2002 the proportion of old aged

Analysis Of Bullet In The Brain By Tobias Wolff
The short story Bullet in the Brain by Tobias Wolff brings the reader to the attention of how one s life
can be influenced by something as timid as a word (Von Ancken). In this story, a protagonist is a man
by the name of Anders, who is a book critic. The story starts with Anders arriving at the bank just
before it closes. The line is really long and he is stuck in line with two loud ladies who drive him
crazy with their stupid conversation. He is characterized as, weary, elegant savagery with which he
dispatched almost everything he reviewed (Wolff). He is also portrayed as a man who is miserable and
constantly criticizing his surroundings. Even as he waits in the line at the bank, his sarcastic comments
do not stop to represent his perspective of his disappointment of the world. When one of the tellers
closed her window, Anders conveys a hatred towards the teller s action by stating, Damned unfair, he
said. Tragic, really. If they re not chopping off the wrong leg, or bombing your ancestral village, they
re closing their positions (Wolff). When reading the story, it was difficult to determine whether Anders
had sympathy towards anything in life as he argues and makes sarcastic remarks to the ladies.
However, when the short story was viewed as a film, it was learned that Anders was a character that
had sympathy towards life. Unlike the written story, the film starts with Anders in a classroom
lecturing his students. The difference in the beginning of the story has

The First Battle of Bull Run Essay examples
THE FIRST BATTLE OF BULL RUN
BY COLLINS MCKAY
On July 21, 1861, two armies, one confederate and the other Union, prepared for the first major land
battle of the Civil War. In 1861 Abraham Lincoln was sworn in as President.
The Southern states had seceded and the South had fired on and captured Fort Sumter on April 12
1861.
After the Fort Sumter battle, both the North and the South began preparing for war by raising armies.
This was done quickly and neither side spent much time training the troops. Both sides also did not
know what a long and terrible war was ahead.
The first Battle of Bull Run took place near Manassas Junction, Virginia, an important railroad
junction twenty five miles west of Washington, D.C. Bull Run ... Show more content on

General McDonnell attempted to flank the Confederates by moving north and west, and began several
attacks on the Confederates right flank and the center of the Confederate line at Henry House.
As the battle wore on, the superior numbers of the Union Army began to wear down the Confederate
lines. At a critical point, as the Confederates began to fall back, an officer pointed out a line of rebels
who were still strong. He said, look at Jackson s men standing like a stone wall . He was talking about
General T. J. Jackson s men. Jackson would from then on be known as Stonewall Jackson , one of the
most famous of all Confederate generals. This seemed to inspire the Southern troops at Henry House
who held their ground and began to beat back the Union forces.
On the west flank the Union troops who had been moving slowly were pushed back by General
Johnston s troops who arrived in the afternoon by railroad. Civilian spectators had come out from
Washington to watch the battle. They thought it would be like a sporting event. As the battle turned
against the North, they panicked and the one road back to Washington became clogged with
overturned carriages and wagons. The Union retreat had turned into panic by early evening.
In the end, the North had suffered 2,896 men killed wounded or missing; the South had lost 1,982. The
South had won the big victory in the first major

St. Laurent Boulevard Walking Tour Reflection
Geography: St Laurent Boulevard Walking Tour Reflection
St Laurent Boulevard, popularly known as The Main, I believe, is a historical region in Canada with a
strong sense of history. It is a unique place in the history of Canada, arising from emergence and
development of the various cultural communities that integrated to form a representative of Canadian
society as a whole. Further, according to its cosmopolitan feature, the constant renewal of due to
merging and mixing of culture aesthetics and the commemorative intent gives it a very particular
sense of place.
Also, St Laurent is the immigrants corridor: with garments and textile factories, its many local
businesses, and the theater and entertainment world, it evolved in a lifestyle that even inspired artists
and writers. According to author Aline Gubbay, although the street has no outstanding buildings or
spectacular monuments, it has value worth more than that. What it offers together with continuity of
its long history, is human scale, a line of city life, dwellers in its corridors, who through ups and
downs, has retained a sense of neighborhood.
Saint Laurent Boulevard, for many years, has been a dividing line between the eastern and western
sections of the Montreal City. Since, it has been seen as a symbolic boundary between the English

The Is Representative Of A. Y Gasset s The Dehumanization...
1) Oliverio Girondo s poetry is representative of a new style of art encompassed in José Ortega y
Gasset s The Dehumanization of Art. Aesthetics no longer conform to the traditional classical style but
instead, champions a futurist type meant to bypass the limitations of rationale in a trivial and playful
nature likened to sport. Girondo clearly breaks from the platonic ideals of beauty and delves into the
aesthetics of the grotesque by using antipoetic language, which sublimes the abject. This is made
obvious early in Scarecrow other anomalies as he writes that he couldn t care less if women have
breasts like fresh magnolias or withered figs, skin smooth as a peach or rough as sand paper. [...]
breath of an aphrodisiac or the breath of an insecticide. (Girondo 7). Girondo often uses ludic and
vulgar language and has a clear objective of relegating humans to beasts or objects, for example, he
describes May a spider s foot sprout from each of your pores, [...] may all the inhabitants of the city
mistake you for a urinal. [...] May your family amuse itself deforming your bone structure, so that
mirrors, looking at you, commit suicide out of sheer repugnance (Girondo 75). Girondo s scarecrow
calligram illustrates the new style of art masterfully as he creates an extended metaphor to ridicule
bourgeois ideals, literarily from head to toe intended to scare bourgeois aesthetics, instead of
accustomed crows. Girondo ultimately describes that a book should be put together like a

The Origins Of The United Nations
Kofi Annan once said, More than ever before in human history we share a common destiny. We can
master it only if we face it together. The origins of the United Nations began seventy years, here, in
the United States. In 1945, representatives of 50 countries met in San Francisco at the United Nations
Conference. Each delegate deliberated on the proposals by the representatives of China, the Soviet
Union, the United Kingdom, and the United States at Dumbarton Oaks starting in August of 1944. The
Charter was signed in June of 1945 by each of the fifty one representatives. The U.N. was officialized
on October 24 of 1945, after the Charter had been ratified by a majority of other signatories (un.org,
2015) . While the intentions for Franklin D. Roosevelt s coined United Nations was to align the Allied
Powers and anyone else against the Axis Powers in World War II, the it s goals are a bit broader now.
While we did have a League of Nations before The United Nations, it was put in place after the Paris
Peace Conference after the first World War, there wasn t exactly much accomplished. The United
Nations now, has four main purposes: maintain international peace and security, develop healthy
relations amongst nations, solve international problems and promote human rights. While some
agendas are hard to advance, the U.N. has successfully completed several; including peacebuilding in
war ridden countries, new enforcement on the issue of climate change, and defending human

The Future Major And Potential Minors

disciplines. The primary goals of this assignment were to explore a variety of disciplines in order to
better understand your future major and potential minors and to introduce yourself to professors from
those fields.
Dr. Carenen, a history professor, originally intended to be a lawyer, but fell in love with history as
soon as she started taking upper history level classes. She went on to earn her PhD in European
History and then worked in the publishing industry before getting her PhD in American History. She
then decided to become a professor because she missed academia and loved to teach. As a professor in

Dr. Carenen, as a professor, has taken up her own academic research about Jewish fundraising during
the First World War, and additionally wrote two books one about Israel called Fervent Embrace, and
another about terrorism. As far as creative activities go, students with history majors participate in
activities such as the History Club, which is planning a trip to Washington DC at this time, and many
of them also compete on the bowling team. Not to mention that global studies field courses are
offered, such as the trip to Israel, Jordan, and Palestine that will be taken this upcoming spring.
Finally, after graduation, students often attain careers as diplomats, lawyers, professors, business
analysts, etc. Graduate school is advised in most circumstances before heading off to work. There,
strong language and research skills and good relationships with professors are all looked at.
Another faculty member, Dr. Brown of the economics department, also received the same interview
questions. She was initially a business administration major in college, but since she enjoyed math as
well, she was told to consider economics where the two fields would be more or less combined. She
thought that economics was interesting and the problems were challenging, and graduated as an
economics major before pursuing her PhD to become an economics professor. In this department,
students learn about

Two Kinds, By Amy Tan
Reflection on Two Kinds the novel The Joy Luck Club, Amy Tan explores the relationship between
mothers and daughters. There are 4 mother daughter pairs in the novel, mothers are the first generation

Chinese traditional families when the dictatorial Chinese power is destroyed by the Japanese
insurgents in the 1940s. They escape from the political upheaval of China, but they don t forget their
Chinese traditional culture, while their daughters are born in America, they are the second generation

The Joy Luck Club presents many conflicts in the mother daughter relationship. The conflicts are
embodied in 3 aspects. First, the mothers and the daughters are in different cultural backgrounds, and
the daughters cannot understand their mothers. At the beginning, Jing Mei fears that she cannot tell
her mother s story to her half sisters, which, in fact, reflects the fear of other daughters of the Joy Luck
Club members. They have identified themselves with Americans. Jing Mei s fear also reflects the
mothers common feelings. They offer the chance to go to America to their daughters, and make them
self sufficient; they wonder whether they have their daughters away from tradition. So in the story The
Joy Luck Club Jing Mei feels puzzled, What will I say? What can I tell them about my mother? I don t
know anything. The way in which the mothers express their love cannot be accepted by the daughters.
Jing Mei believes that her mother s constant blame is the embodiment of lacking of affection.
However, in fact, the mother s severity and high expectations are expressions of love and faith in her

A Report On The New Game Called Hockey
SRP report As a left hander, I have always wondered what makes us different. As a child it made no
sense to me, people telling me I wrote with the wrong hand or looking at my hand in amazement
asking How do you do that!?!?! I always saw it as something to show off, a little peculiarity that made
me unique. As I grew older, the challenges got harder. In year two we tried the new game called
hockey that looked really fun only to be told that I had to hold the stick in my right hand, which made
me pretty much hopeless to my team. My pencil grip was atrocious, and nobody could properly teach
me how to hold it in such a combination where I could see what I was writing but also hold it correctly
and comfortably (which I have only learnt this year in year nine). Not to mention the tasks of scissors,
white out, dinner etiquette, bumping elbows when writing or eating, not being able to copy sports
demonstrations, right handed desks, and the part that hurt the most, my librarian always telling my
class the cruel stories of past treatment to left handers. But because of my family s support from a
young age, I always saw this small trait as something that made me special. This never changed. The
personal hint inspired me to so something with handedness. I was also shocked to find statistics about

How Did Isaac Newton Contribute To The Discovery Of Calculus
Calculus is a means for calculating the way quantities vary with each other, rather than just the
quantities themselves. Mathematicians everywhere contributed to the development of Calculus.
However, we usually give credit to Isaac Newton and Gottfried William Leibniz. Today, the credit is
given to both men, however, in the 1600s a controversy occurred over which of them deserved credit.
Isaac Newton is a very well known scientists and is recognized as one of the most accomplished
mathematicians. He was born in 1643, and began the discovery of Calculus in 1666. However, he did
not publish his work until thirty two years later in 1704. Newton claims that he began working on the
discovery of calculus in 1666, but he did not publish it. Gottfried

In the technology world, the latest advancement is only as good as the next thing coming down the
line. The auto industry is constantly bringing us new technologies, whether it be for safety,
entertainment, usefulness or simply for pure innovation (Neiger,C.). Unless you re an inveterate
walker or a mass transit rider, you probably spend more time in your car each week than anywhere

Next up are cars that can park themselves at the push of a button.
If you believe the hype, it would seem that self driving cars are right around the corner. Google has
been testing them for several years, and states like California and Nevada have authorized them for
use on roads although only with a human behind the wheel. Autonomous driving features, such as
systems that recognize hazards and brake on their own to avoid collisions, are already on the market.
But the fantasy of a car that automatically steers you to work while you read the morning paper or
catch a few extras is still many years away. Autonomous driving is not going to mean jump in the car,
push a button, say Take me to grandma s house and go to sleep, said James Bell, head of consumer
affairs for GM. That may come someday, but not soon.
For decades, most automobile headlights were fairly uncomplicated. They pointed fixedly ahead, with
separate high beams for greater visibility on dark roads. Then came the more energy efficient halogen
and xenon lights and light emitting diodes (LEDs). Now, automakers are pioneering a generation of
smart headlights that can automatically adjust their brightness or direction depending on conditions.
And a coming wave of laser high beams promises to illuminate the road ahead for a third of a mile
twice the range of LED high beam headlights while using less energy. Audi and BMW are racing to be

The next Bayani Brew drink may yet be another native, healthy, and surely yummy concoction of the
nanays we fondly call our Titas. There is just so much natural goodness of our people and our land left

Hence, the name Bayani Brew does not just stand for our love of country or bayan, but also for
honouring these unsung heroines (our personal bayanis who not just concocted these delightful
drinks); and more sentimentally, for the bayanihan effort of local talent, farmers, and social
entrepreneurs to bring this once crazy idea to the market. Bayani Brew wants to be remembered not
only for its refreshing beverages, but as part of brewing a social innovation movement comprising a

Sin In The House Of The Seven Gables
Nathaniel Hawthorne a prominent puritan author wrote many great novels in his lifetime. Some of his
novels can be considered classics because they symbolize and express themes that every generation
can in some fashion that many can relate to. Nathaniel Hawthorne, who wrote The House of the Seven
Gables, underlined and brought attention to the flawed human condition by symbolizing how sin is
carried throughout generations. This concept of generational sin has caused mixed emotions for many
who have read the novel.
Nathaniel Hawthorne, born in Salem, Massachusetts, has a New England background. His original
family named was actually spelled Hathorne. He personally added a w to differentiate himself from
his ancestors such as John Hathorne who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most critics, such as Henry Chorley, praised the book and Hawthorne stating, few will dispute
[Hawthorne s] claim to rank amongst the most original and complete novelists that have appeared in
modern times (Miller 320). Other critics, especially those of Christian writings like the critics at the
Christian Examiner, said that the book more complex, the characterization more exaggerated, and the
artistic execution less perfect (Mellow 368). Although all of these reviews are somewhat important,
the most important is the review from Fanny Kemble, who described the effect of The House of the
Seven Gables to ...the same of the novel Jane Eyre caused in England (Wineapple, 232). To give you

David Bowie s theatricality on stage has been influenced by Brecht s philosophy around performance.
Berthold Brecht was a famous German poet, playwright and theatre director most well known for his
use of alienation techniques with his plays (Buckley, 2013). Alienation, distancing the audience from
immersing themselves the characters opposed to naturalism Brecht wanted to make the audience
critical and aware of what was happening. Brecht mostly used music, songs and gestures to convey
meaning in his plays (Buckley, 2013). By doing this he was able encourage the audience to create their
own perception of what was occurring. Bowie incorporates this technique within his songs and
performances. He feels that it is important for his audience to have their own association of what I am
writing about (Hale, 2015)

Symbolic Religious Language
Religious symbols and languages are widely used in advertisements to appeal certain audiences or for
the sake of creativity and originality. As you can see, this Heinz ketchup advertisement incorporated
religious symbol and language into their creative work. Symbolic religious language has three primary
characteristics: It points to something beyond itself it is transcendent. It is complex it has layers of
meaning. And it is often paradoxical it contains two opposing ideas (Bond, Symbol ). This particular
advertisement portrays the complexity and paradox of the religious symbols and languages based on
their biblical interpretations. The serpent in the advertisement refers to the serpent from the Garden of
Eden, where the serpent deceives Eve to eat the forbidden fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good
and evil. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
God, let the serpent to tempt Adam and Eve to have a choice of either obedience or disobedience. Due
to the disobedience of Adam and Eve, we are born sinful and through our journey, we are given free
will to accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior who died to forgive our sin. Additionally, the way
that this particular advertisement used the serpent and the forbidden fruit can be interpreted in a
paradox. After Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit, they immediately noticed their shame, the
nakedness, and the act of disobedience against God. Which eventually led them to exile from the
Garden of Eden. However, in this advertisement, you can eat this fit ketchup that contains less sugar
and will not feel shame or guilt. It will actually benefit the consumer to consume less sugar and make

Macbeth Historical Context
In William Shakespeare s Macbeth the male characters Macbeth, Macduff, Banquo and Duncan really
give you and insight in to the time the play was written. Shakespeare s Macbeth was written in the
Elizabethan era during King James reign as King over 400 years ago.
King Duncan is introduced to the play in act 1 scene 2. King Duncan is seen as a great, noble, highly
thought of King. He is in The Monarch which is the highest in the social order.
Go pronounce his present death,
And with his former title greet Macbeth. This quote conveys the power King Duncan has and the price
you have to pay for committing reason. King Duncan also thought highly of Macbeth and Banquo and
considers them high up in the social order, as this quote ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Macduff and Malcolm plan to overthrow Macbeth as he has turned into an evil tyrant and is running
Scotland into the ground.
Make all our trumpets speak give them all breath,
Those clamorous harbingers of blood and death! In this era wars happened quite often because of a
disagreement or problems with a country.
Macbeth is a true example of a tragic hero. At the beginning of the play Macbeth is seen a noble,
brave, great thane and part of The Nobility. In the play the witches played a major part of Macbeth s
downfall. Speak if you can: what are you? This quote is the first encounter has with the witches. King
James was very interested in the supernatural and even wrote about it. Shakespeare may have put
aspects of the supernatural in the pay to keep the King intrigued.
Once Macbeth starts to have murderous thoughts he says this very famous quote;
Stars hide your fires,
Let not light see my black and deep desires.
In the play it emphasises that every evil happened in darkness. Elizabethans also believed in this. I
have no spur
To prick the sides of my intent but only
Vaulting ambition. In theatre Macbeth is known for being ambitious but his vaulting ambition ended
up being his downfall.
In Macbeth, Macbeth was known for his relationship with his controlling wife, Lady Macbeth. My
dearest love. Not all relationships in that era were genuine but Lady Macbeth and Macbeth seemed to
have an affectionate/strong relationship as the quote

Persuasive Essay On Emerging Adulthood
Despite some young adults are privileged and may not have to worry as much about issues of the real
world. Several of other young adults are growing up slowly and are not completing milestones that
were common at their age in past generations. Emerging adulthood is beneficial to young adults and
should be more supported by others because having emerging adulthood would give young adults
more time to have identity exploration, it helps give young adults more self focus, and it helps to
understand what the real world really is and the issues that come. Initially, emerging adulthood is
helpful because young adults have more time to find their identity. In the article, the Arnett talks about
the importance of identity exploration: a few of these, especially identity exploration, are part of
adolescence too, but they take on new depth and urgency in the 20s (Henig, 200). Arnett is implying
that the stage of emerging adulthood plays a major part in finding who the person is. Coming into
adulthood a person can feel rushed into adulthood and not fully grasp who they are and what they
want or like to do with their life. This feeling is felt even as a teenager. Having the extra time to
explore who they are can only benefit the person and ease the transition into adulthood. Arnett
emphasizes the urgency on how beneficial finding a person s true self. The stakes are higher when
people are approaching the age when options tend to close off and lifelong commitments must be

Transgender People Face Harmful Discrimination
His mother holds up another dress, remarking on how cute it is and handing it to him to try on. She
ignores the uncomfortable look on his face and tells him to hurry up. He sits in the dressing room in
silence, looking at himself in the mirror, the dress hanging on a hook beside him. He furrows his
brows, covers his chest with his arms, and stares at the face looking back at him. It doesn t look right,
he thinks, trying not to cry. All his life he had been called she and girl and it never felt right. No one
told him it was okay to feel this way when he brought it up, instead yelling at him, telling him he was
just confused. It made him sick, pretending to be a girl, but no one listened or cared. Due to the many
misconceptions about them, transgender people face harmful discrimination, whether being told their
feelings are invalid, that there is no such thing, or being killed for who they are. Identifying as a
gender other than the one you are assigned at birth is seen as unnatural in a world ruled by a rigid
gender binary, so understanding transgender people s experiences is necessary for a safe life for them.
Some protections are already available to transgender people, though paltry: Only 15 [states] and the
District of Columbia have laws prohibiting discrimination based on gender identity/expression (
Knowledge Center ). Additionally, seven state governors have put orders into effect that ban the
discrimination of state workers on the basis of them being

Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church, Under The Direction Of...
In 1905, Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church, under the direction of Rev. L. L. Downing, erected their
persistently famous Stonewall Jackson memorial window. Each Sunday, Fifth Avenue s pastor still
preaches from the pulpit with this picturesque image in the background, denoting the phrase, Let us
Cross the River and Rest in the Shade of the Trees. General Jackson was, of course, well known for
his devout Presbyterian faith. What may be most surprising to those unfamiliar with Fifth Avenue
Presbyterian Church, however, is that it is a historically black congregation. As a local historian has
explained:
It was to Gen. Jackson that Downing imputed his conversion to Christ. In the presence of a large
gathering of white and colored people to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Flynt s work shows special interest in one man, Walter Lingle, but he attempted to show issues such as
child labor as having been of great concern to more than just Lingle, a Presbyterian leader that arrived
at Union Seminary in Richmond by 1911. Shortly before Lingle s entrance into the Old Dominion,
Flynt states that Presbyterians had clearly opted for a mixture of spiritual and educational salvation.
Other writers of Presbyterian history have not been so interested in such themes, however. Don K.
Clements, speaking about much broader chronological implications, has been especially critical of
those who adopted a more progressive stance to Presbyterianism. He stated:
The Southern Church saw herself as holding the Old School position, which gave rise to the Southern
Presbyterian distinctives. With the passing of the first generation of leaders, the Southern Church was
unable to replace them with men of equal soundness and stature. The result is that the Southern
Church lasted as a sound denomination for seventy or eighty years, and then was taken over by the
liberals in the church. This was done very largely through the capturing of the educational agencies of
the church, the seminaries, the colleges, the publications and literature.
Still, others, including Darryl G. hart, have suggested that historians focus

Table 1 shows the results of our measurements for each of the three weeks. As seen in the table, the
shortest plant measured for the control grew a total of 7.5 cm over the course of seven weeks.
Meanwhile, the shortest plant measured for the SUPERthrive grew a total of 6.85 cm. The tallest plant
measured for the control group grew 10.5 cm, while the tallest plant measured for the SUPERthrive
group grew 8.5 cm. Figure 1 shows each of the heights for all three weeks. There is little change
between each group. Figure 2 shows the average change in height for each group. The SUPERthrive

Studies have proven that kelp can accelerate growth, increase flowering, and provide resistance to
disease ( Benefits of Kelp , n.d.). When comparing Figures 3 and 4, the SUPERthrive zinnias appear
to have healthier growth and are generally larger than the control group. Many of the SUPERthrive
zinnias also flowered, and overall looked healthier than the control zinnias. Because kelp has been
proven to increase growth, health, and flowering, it may be the reason why the experimental zinnias
had more success than the control.
The synthetic auxin found in SUPERthrive, indole 3 bytric acid, may be a key player in the benefits of
SUPERthrive, if there are any. For example, indole 3 acetic acid (IAA), the main auxin in higher
plants, has been found to have positive effects on plant growth and development. Auxin is able to
stimulate differential growth, specifically in response to gravity or light stimuli. Another important
aspect of auxin is its ability to detect developmental defects caused by auxin deficiency. With
SUPERthrive having indole 3 bytric acid as one of its main ingredients, there should be some benefits
from its use (Zhao, 2010). The increased growth seen in the SUPERthrive zinnias may have been due
to the additive of auxins in the product. Overall, it is hard to draw conclusions based off the results of
this experiment. While the SUPERthrive zinnias did experience a larger growth of 4.5 cm average

Safety Net Hospitals And The United States Health Care System
Safety net hospitals have played an important role in the United States health care system. They
provide a significant amount of care to low income, uninsured, and vulnerable populations. While
treating these types of populations, they are still able to provide high cost services such as trauma and
burn care. They often take on additional roles and responsibilities such as the training of medical and
nursing students (Coughlin et al., 2014). These hospital systems are well known for their open door
policy (Wynn et al., 2002). They will examine and treat all individuals, whether or not they can pay
for any of their services. The hospitals are not distinguished from other providers by ownership. Some
are publicly owned and operated by local or state governments, while others are non profit. However,
they are distinguished by their commitment to provide access to care for all individuals with limited or
no access to health care due to their finical circumstances, insurance status or health condition (What
is a Safety Net Hospital, 2015).
Due to safety net hospitals urban locations, they tend to treat more uninsured patients who will
frequently show up in the emergency room. Even if their care is not critical or an emergency, these
patients cannot be turned away. A study performed by an urban institute estimated that the costs of
uncompensated care to these hospitals were as high as forty five billion dollars in 2013. Government
programs will help with approximately 65% of

  • 3. Long Term Species Is The Main Goal Of Conservation Biology 1.1 Conservation genetics Long term species persistence is the main goal of conservation biology, and this has been associated with maintenance of species evolutionary potential (Hamrick et al. 1991), which in turn, is not unconnected with higher levels of genetic variation in the focal species (Frankel and Soule 1981). Therefore, the field of conservation genetics, defined as the application of molecular genetic techniques to the conservation of biodiversity (Frankham 2010), was introduced for accurate understanding of genetic diversity in a focal taxa, and how this can be maintained or amplified, in order to ensure species persistence, even in a changing environment. Population genetic theory (Wright 1969) suggests that small isolated populations will undergo genetic drift, inbreeding and reduced gene flow, resulting in loss of intra population genetic variation, increased genetic differentiation among populations, inbreeding depression and loss of fitness (Barrett and Kohn 1991), leading to extirpation (Reed and Frankham 2003). This is also corroborated from ecological theory that predicted that small populations with small geographical range and poor dispersal capacity have higher extinction risk (Belovsky et al. 1999). Consequently, population size is one of the most important criteria in IUCN criteria for red listing of threatened species (Mace et al. 2008). Previous studies support the prediction of population genetic theory that rare plant species will exhibit low ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Analysis Of Bullet In The Brain By Tobias Wolff The short story Bullet in the Brain by Tobias Wolff brings the reader to the attention of how one s life can be influenced by something as timid as a word (Von Ancken). In this story, a protagonist is a man by the name of Anders, who is a book critic. The story starts with Anders arriving at the bank just before it closes. The line is really long and he is stuck in line with two loud ladies who drive him crazy with their stupid conversation. He is characterized as, weary, elegant savagery with which he dispatched almost everything he reviewed (Wolff). He is also portrayed as a man who is miserable and constantly criticizing his surroundings. Even as he waits in the line at the bank, his sarcastic comments do not stop to represent his perspective of his disappointment of the world. When one of the tellers closed her window, Anders conveys a hatred towards the teller s action by stating, Damned unfair, he said. Tragic, really. If they re not chopping off the wrong leg, or bombing your ancestral village, they re closing their positions (Wolff). When reading the story, it was difficult to determine whether Anders had sympathy towards anything in life as he argues and makes sarcastic remarks to the ladies. However, when the short story was viewed as a film, it was learned that Anders was a character that had sympathy towards life. Unlike the written story, the film starts with Anders in a classroom lecturing his students. The difference in the beginning of the story has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The First Battle of Bull Run Essay examples THE FIRST BATTLE OF BULL RUN BY COLLINS MCKAY On July 21, 1861, two armies, one confederate and the other Union, prepared for the first major land battle of the Civil War. In 1861 Abraham Lincoln was sworn in as President. The Southern states had seceded and the South had fired on and captured Fort Sumter on April 12 1861. After the Fort Sumter battle, both the North and the South began preparing for war by raising armies. This was done quickly and neither side spent much time training the troops. As the battle wore on, the superior numbers of the Union Army began to wear down the Confederate lines. He was talking about General T. J. Jackson s men. Jackson would from then on be known as Stonewall Jackson , one of the most famous of all Confederate generals. This seemed to inspire the Southern troops at Henry House who held their ground and began to beat back the Union forces. • 10. The Is Representative Of A. Y Gasset s The Dehumanization... 1) Oliverio Girondo s poetry is representative of a new style of art encompassed in José Ortega y Gasset s The Dehumanization of Art. Aesthetics no longer conform to the traditional classical style but instead, champions a futurist type meant to bypass the limitations of rationale in a trivial and playful nature likened to sport. Girondo clearly breaks from the platonic ideals of beauty and delves into the aesthetics of the grotesque by using antipoetic language, which sublimes the abject. This is made obvious early in Scarecrow other anomalies as he writes that he couldn t care less if women have breasts like fresh magnolias or withered figs, skin smooth as a peach or rough as sand paper. [...] breath of an aphrodisiac or the breath of an insecticide. (Girondo 7). Girondo often uses ludic and vulgar language and has a clear objective of relegating humans to beasts or objects, for example, he describes May a spider s foot sprout from each of your pores, [...] may all the inhabitants of the city mistake you for a urinal. [...] May your family amuse itself deforming your bone structure, so that mirrors, looking at you, commit suicide out of sheer repugnance (Girondo 75). Girondo s scarecrow calligram illustrates the new style of art masterfully as he creates an extended metaphor to ridicule bourgeois ideals, literarily from head to toe intended to scare bourgeois aesthetics, instead of accustomed crows. Girondo ultimately describes that a book should be put together like a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. Persuasive Essay On Emerging Adulthood Despite some young adults are privileged and may not have to worry as much about issues of the real world. Several of other young adults are growing up slowly and are not completing milestones that were common at their age in past generations. Emerging adulthood is beneficial to young adults and should be more supported by others because having emerging adulthood would give young adults more time to have identity exploration, it helps give young adults more self focus, and it helps to understand what the real world really is and the issues that come. Initially, emerging adulthood is helpful because young adults have more time to find their identity. In the article, the Arnett talks about the importance of identity exploration: a few of these, especially identity exploration, are part of adolescence too, but they take on new depth and urgency in the 20s (Henig, 200). Arnett is implying that the stage of emerging adulthood plays a major part in finding who the person is. Coming into adulthood a person can feel rushed into adulthood and not fully grasp who they are and what they want or like to do with their life. This feeling is felt even as a teenager. Having the extra time to explore who they are can only benefit the person and ease the transition into adulthood. Arnett emphasizes the urgency on how beneficial finding a person s true self. She ignores the uncomfortable look on his face and tells him to hurry up. He sits in the dressing room in silence, looking at himself in the mirror, the dress hanging on a hook beside him. He furrows his brows, covers his chest with his arms, and stares at the face looking back at him. It doesn t look right, he thinks, trying not to cry. All his life he had been called she and girl and it never felt right. No one told him it was okay to feel this way when he brought it up, instead yelling at him, telling him he was just confused. It made him sick, pretending to be a girl, but no one listened or cared. Due to the many misconceptions about them, transgender people face harmful discrimination, whether being told their feelings are invalid, that there is no such thing, or being killed for who they are. Identifying as a gender other than the one you are assigned at birth is seen as unnatural in a world ruled by a rigid gender binary, so understanding transgender people s experiences is necessary for a safe life for them. Each Sunday, Fifth Avenue s pastor still preaches from the pulpit with this picturesque image in the background, denoting the phrase, Let us Cross the River and Rest in the Shade of the Trees. General Jackson was, of course, well known for his devout Presbyterian faith. What may be most surprising to those unfamiliar with Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church, however, is that it is a historically black congregation. As a local historian has explained: It was to Gen. Jackson that Downing imputed his conversion to Christ. In the presence of a large gathering of white and colored people to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Flynt s work shows special interest in one man, Walter Lingle, but he attempted to show issues such as child labor as having been of great concern to more than just Lingle, a Presbyterian leader that arrived at Union Seminary in Richmond by 1911. Shortly before Lingle s entrance into the Old Dominion, Flynt states that Presbyterians had clearly opted for a mixture of spiritual and educational salvation. Other writers of Presbyterian history have not been so interested in such themes, however. Don K. Clements, speaking about much broader chronological implications, has been especially critical of those who adopted a more progressive stance to Presbyterianism. He stated: The Southern Church saw herself as holding the Old School position, which gave rise to the Southern Presbyterian distinctives. With the passing of the first generation of leaders, the Southern Church was unable to replace them with men of equal soundness and stature. The result is that the Southern Church lasted as a sound denomination for seventy or eighty years, and then was taken over by the liberals in the church. This was done very largely through the capturing of the educational agencies of the church, the seminaries, the colleges, the publications and literature. When comparing Figures 3 and 4, the SUPERthrive zinnias appear to have healthier growth and are generally larger than the control group. Many of the SUPERthrive zinnias also flowered, and overall looked healthier than the control zinnias. Because kelp has been proven to increase growth, health, and flowering, it may be the reason why the experimental zinnias had more success than the control. The synthetic auxin found in SUPERthrive, indole 3 bytric acid, may be a key player in the benefits of SUPERthrive, if there are any. For example, indole 3 acetic acid (IAA), the main auxin in higher plants, has been found to have positive effects on plant growth and development. Auxin is able to stimulate differential growth, specifically in response to gravity or light stimuli. Another important aspect of auxin is its ability to detect developmental defects caused by auxin deficiency. With SUPERthrive having indole 3 bytric acid as one of its main ingredients, there should be some benefits from its use (Zhao, 2010). The increased growth seen in the SUPERthrive zinnias may have been due to the additive of auxins in the product. Overall, it is hard to draw conclusions based off the results of this experiment. • 33. Safety Net Hospitals And The United States Health Care System Safety net hospitals have played an important role in the United States health care system. They provide a significant amount of care to low income, uninsured, and vulnerable populations. While treating these types of populations, they are still able to provide high cost services such as trauma and burn care. They often take on additional roles and responsibilities such as the training of medical and nursing students (Coughlin et al., 2014). These hospital systems are well known for their open door policy (Wynn et al., 2002). They will examine and treat all individuals, whether or not they can pay for any of their services. The hospitals are not distinguished from other providers by ownership. Some are publicly owned and operated by local or state governments, while others are non profit. However, they are distinguished by their commitment to provide access to care for all individuals with limited or no access to health care due to their finical circumstances, insurance status or health condition (What is a Safety Net Hospital, 2015). Due to safety net hospitals urban locations, they tend to treat more uninsured patients who will frequently show up in the emergency room. Even if their care is not critical or an emergency, these patients cannot be turned away. A study performed by an urban institute estimated that the costs of uncompensated care to these hospitals were as high as forty five billion dollars in 2013.
