The Importance Of A Salary Cap In Professional Sports
A Salary Cap in Professional Sports is Crucial.
A salary cap in all four major professional sports is unfathomably crucial. A salary cap is a set
maximum or minimum amount of money that a team is allowed to spend on its players (Cushman 3).
The four major professional sports are the National Football League or NFL, Major League Baseball
or MLB, the National Basketball Association or NBA, and the National Hockey League or NHL
(Cushman 1).
Professional sports are often perceived as one of the last true bastions of capitalism, where player
salaries are constrained only by what the market will bear. Since the 1990 s, however, [professional]
sports leagues have grown increasingly concerned over the increase in player salaries, not only in
terms of the absolute cost required to field a competitive team, but also in terms of parity, or the extent
to which teams in a league are fairly evenly matched (Cushman 1).
Professional sports are bursting with unfair competition and suffering fans due to either the lack of a
salary cap or a fortified set of restrictions in the leagues that already have a salary cap in place. A well
structured salary cap will allow professional sports to thrive for years to come. Salary caps must be
implemented into professional sports because an equal playing field is enormously important in
maintaining the respectable world of professional sports. Plus, all franchises and the fans of those
franchises deserve equal chances to win heedless of how big of

Children aged five or six would not be able to play on playground apparatus that is only suitable for
children over 8 years of age because the apparatus would be too high or have more complex climbing
equipment and would not meet their age of development. Age appropriate apparatus and equipment
should be available to aid their development. Apparatus/equipment for a child with special educational
needs who is over 8 years old would not be suitable if their development age may only be equivalent
to a 5 or 6 year old therefore they need access to apparatus/equipment to meet their developing age

How Did Sherman s Defeat At Kennesaw Mountain
On June 27, 1864 the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain was fought. The Union Army was currently
carrying out Sherman s March. Richard T Sherman was the commander of the Union Army and was
going up against the Confederate Army of Tennessee, commanded by Joseph E. Johnston. Sherman
was beating Johnston again and again with flanking maneuvers pushing the Confederates back all the
way to Kennesaw Mountain. Sherman decided to change his tactics and ordered a frontal assault
rather than another flanking maneuver. John Logan and his men assaulted Pigeon Hill while George
Thomas led his men on another aggressive attack on Cheatham Hill. Both failed miserably with costly
casualties. The Union did however manage to gain position on the Confederate s left flank. With their
left flank exposed, the Confederates withdrew. Sherman did suffer a tactical defeat at Kennesaw
Mountain but he still managed to continue his march to Atlanta It was a costly battle for the Union
because Sherman lost around 3,000 soldiers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

abundant amount of activities to do that are fun and educational, such as hikes or tours of the historic

Pride In The Scarlet Ibis
Pride Overcomes Judgement James Hurst s The Scarlet Ibis is about the battle between love and pride
and reveals that pride alters people s perception of loved ones capabilities demonstrated by
symbolism. James Hurst s use of symbolism suggests that the Scarlet Ibis is a symbol of Doodle s life
and his journey to be able to walk, even though his disabilities challenge that. The narrator teaches
Doodle to walk out of this embarrassment towards him, all because he isn t like a normal six year old
kid. After he successfully teaches his brother, Doodle, to walk he lets his pride and embarrassment
alter his perception and pushed Doodle to his maximum capability. The narrator stated, Once I had
succeeded in teaching Doodle to walk, I began to believe in my own infallibility and I prepare a ...

I would teach him to run, to swim, to climb trees and to fight (320). In this quotation the narrator
stated that his pride got in the way of his judgement. The narrator got carried away when he
successfully taught Doodle how to walk even with his disability. When the narrator stated that his own
infallibility got in the way of his judgement he meant that his pride had escalated to the point where
his acumen became impaired. The narrator lets his pride get in the way of his perception of his brother
s capabilities. As Doodle learns how to walk his brother wants to teach him how to be more like the
other six year old kids out of his embarrassment towards Doodle. That embarrassment lead to his own
pride overcoming his intuition. The narrator s distorted judgement causes him to want to teach Doodle
to run, to swim, to climb trees and to fight when his disability barely allows him to walk. Wake up,
Doodle. Wake up. It was a Saturday noon, just a few days before school was to start. I should have
already admitted defeat, but my pride wouldn t let me (321). The narrator is rushing to teach Doodle to

The Cult You re By Kalle Lasn
The phenomenon of consumerism is quiet powerful due to the impact on individual s lives. Society
has come to the point, happiness is associated with consumption. However, the way consumerism
works, is if the items being purchased gives temporary happiness. There individuals are always buying
the latest products to remain happy. In the text, The Cult you re in Kalle Lasn, discusses a cult like
nature of consumer culture on Americans. Lasn uses the work cult as a metaphor; he does not mean an
actual cult but American consumers seem to be in a cult like nature. The ideal example of Lasns
argument is the text, The man behind Abercrombie and Fitch , Benoit Denizet Lewis, goes in great
depth of the life of the CEO, Mike Jeffries, of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Denizet Lewis states, Jeffries obsession with building brands began when he was five. He grew up in
Los Angeles, where his father owned a chain of party supple stores for which a young Jeffries liked to
organize and design windows and counters (369) . Since Jeffries was a child, he wanted to build
brands to attract more people into the consumer cult. However, Jeffries wanted to be a type of leader,
to attract people as customers by marketing and branding practices. Lasn quote is an example of the
consumer and Denizet Lewis s quote is an example of Jeffrey wanting to be a leader to attract
consumers. However being a consumer or a leader as is displayed in the quotes above, begins before
one is even conscious about it.
Teenage years are some of the toughest years a person may go through, on account of it being all

friends with the endeavor to get away with stealing, drinking or doing drugs by the authorities.
Basically, doing such acts that one knows is forbidden, however if you get away with it, gives you a
feeling of having great power over authority figures. Lasn states, One day you act drunk and trick
them into arresting you only this time it actually is soda in the can. You are immensely pleased with
yourself (379) . In the rebellious years, getting the authorities to believe one accomplished something

Satire In Voltaire s Candide
Voltaire wrote Candide in 1759. When reading Candide, you will notice that it has a satirical tone. It is
a satirical piece because of its syntax, irony, paradox, and diction. In this particular quote from
Voltaire s Candide, we see the old woman s point of view. Throughout the book, we see the character
Candide and his loved ones enjoying wealth and possessions. The chosen quote implies one having
money, friends, and security but still not being emotionally secure in life. This passage shows that, as
people, we not only struggle with humanity, racism, discrimination and oppression, but we also suffer
from our inner demons. These negative thoughts can affect the relationships we are in, and even worse
it can interfere with our peace of mind.
When they were not arguing, the boredom was so fierce that one day the old woman ventured to say: I
should like to know which is worse, being raped a hundred times by negro pirates, having a buttock
cut off, running the gauntlet in the Bulgar army, being flogged and hanged in an auto da fé, being
dissected and rowing in the galleys experiencing, in a word, all the miseries through which we have
passed or else just sitting here and doing nothing (411)? These words clearly show wit and satire. In
this passage, the reader experiences shock that the author would compare having a buttock cut off ...

They need to feel attention, whether it is welcoming or unwelcoming. The characters cannot seem to
find a way to escape their flaws. An example of this is when Candide and Cacambo chose to leave
Eldorado, the paradise (388). From the reader s perspective, this decision seems foolish, but this
decision can be from the author s past experiences. Would the pester of boredom have been as
torturous in Eldorado as it was in Constantinople? No, but the characters were too greedy and would
rather be rich than happy, which is a message the author was trying to convey about human

If change is forced on people normally problems occur. Change must be realistic, achievable and
measurable, so as managing director it is extremely important to understand how to engage
employees, and lead the business, in working around this change (TFG 2014). Change management
enables employees to adopt a change so that business objectives and outcomes can be achieved.
Whenever there is some sort of organizational change employees can experience varied levels of
discomfort. As managing director leading change requires juggling a number of psychological factors,
such as how employees think, how they perceive their current situation, how they will perceive a new
change (Price and Lawson 2008). To ensure the success of any change initiative, manager s efforts
should go first towards considering how your employees will perceive the change and approaching
this in the best way. Planning, leading organizing, negotiating and controlling are four management
functions that can be used and implemented to keep employees motivated towards company goals and
reassured about the businesses direction in a time of change.
Organizations are continually faced with a changing environment, therefore a need for a shift in
strategic direction, must be implemented. The successes of major organizational change initiatives are
almost always dependent on the incorporation of its workers and employees to help implement these
changes.

Subconjunctival Hemorrhage Disease
The human eye is what gives you sense of vision, without the eye you would not be able to see. We
use our eyes daily with every activity that we do whether it is going to the store, driving or as simple
as walking your dog. The eye allows you to see shapes, colors, and objects as long as there is light
present, without light you are not able to see anything. The average weight on the eye is 7.3 grams
with a diameter of 24 millimeters and 6 cubic centimeters as the volume. This is 2/3rds the size of a
ping pong ball. In order to see there must be light that enters the cornea then through the pupil to the

Even though there is the bright red patch on the white of your eye, it does not cause any harm to your
vision. The hemorrhage is painless and no pus leaks from the eye. Subconjunctival hemorrhages are
caused by coughing excruciatingly, strong sneezes, and vomiting. Sometimes you can get the
hemorrhage from rubbing your eye too much and getting an object lodged into your eye.
Conjunctivitis has symptoms which includes; redness, increase in tears, discharges that crusts on the
eyelashes over sleep (discharge is usually yellow or green), eyes become itchy, they could have a
burning sensation, your vision becomes blurry, and the eyes sensitivity to light increases.
Conjunctivitis is also known as pink eye. Pink eye is caused by viruses, bacterias like gonorrhea and
chlamydia, irritants, and allergies.
Corneal ulcers symptoms are redness of the eye, excruciating pain, eyes become watery, discharge
coming from the eye, blurry vision, pain when looking directly at lights, eyelids become swollen, and
if the ulcer is large enough then it becomes visible to the naked eye. The ulcers are mainly caused by
bacterial, viral and fungal infections. Although, they can also be caused by tiny tears of the eye, dry
eye disorders, disorders affecting your eyelids, chemical burns, and people that wear

Grendel s Three Battles In Beowulf
Throughout the book Beowulf, the titular character takes on many tough, mythological foes for fame
and glory. Beowulf begins by slaying a creature known as Grendel without any trouble, but with his
later opponents he struggles to win and is even harmed. As the story progresses, Beowulf s battles
with monsters escalate in difficulty, cost, and reward. The primary difference between Beowulf s three
battles was the level of difficulty each trial consisted of. With the last battle being his last and most
difficult battle, Beowulf found himself unable to fight it alone. There were, however, very obvious
reasons as to why the dragon was more difficult than the rest of the hero s battles. At this stage of his

Grendel s mom with the intention of gaining more glory, but also was showered in riches and gifts.
Beowulf drank to these presents not ashamed to be praised (Line 1025) Lastly, the dragon that was
terrorizing his land guarded a tower that was said to be packed with treasure. However, Beowulf was
no longer doing it just for his name and his people. Beowulf was motivated by the treasure and riches.
Because of his motivation, Beowulf s reward was rotten and spoiled. This is also the real reason he
found himself unable to beat the dragon alone. Wiglaf was able to help because he a genuine intention

head, and the treasure that filled his grave. Had Beowulf been the almighty hero that he was thought to

his favorite people. Instead he ordered Wiglaf to show him the treasure. Wiglaf had just saved his life
and he couldn t even ask nicely. Beowulf died the way he did because he was a shallow, selfish, self

The Religion Of Chin Economic Political And Social Aspects...
From Buddhism to Christianity, China has experienced a wide variety of religions. As of the year
1964, China has been mainly populated by the religion of Confucianism and also the religion of
Taoism. Even though these religions differ greatly from Christianity they thrive in China because the
communists rule in china suppresses Christian beliefs. The book The Religion of China states how the
book is set up. It states The three parts into which the book is divided show a clear logical unity in
Weber s argument. In part I, Weber examined the economic political and social aspects of Chinese
society, and presented a mixture of structural or material characteristics, some of which were
favorable, and some unfavorable to the development of capitalism; in other words, comparison of
material conditions yielded no decisive distinction between Chinese and Western societies in terms of
propensity for capitalistic development. In part II, Weber presented a decisive contrast between
Confucian values and the ascetic protestant ethic in the sense that the former lacked the dynamic
motivation which the latter had for capitalistic development. Part III contains Weber s characterization
of Taoism as a system of negative and conservative values incapable of developing a dynamic social
orientation toward capitalism. Weber thus located the decisive differentiating element in the passive
and traditionalist character in Confucian and Taoist values, explaining why capitalism developed in

Election Promises In The United States
Campaigns are a smart s individual s game, whether you rise to the top or fall behind the spotlight.
The game of thrones where politicians bring out the best they can offer to show America the fire of
being a true leader. What tends to be the common views of citizens regarding candidate s election
promises? Do they care about analyzing the candidate s arguments and policy proposals? Every person
believes that political candidates are inclined to make hypothetical promises to win the hearts of

Many citizens believe that presidential promises fall into two categories. Either they are to theoretical
and fall short of the expectation or the bills don t get passed through Congress. According to Huffpost,
many presidents in the past thirty years have shown low signs of their promises becoming existent

citizens to help increase job availability. Their detailed plans and strategies passed through Congress
successfully but suffered a great deal of negative impact as they experienced undesired results. Even
though both Clinton and Bush were very successful in achieving main goals by making bills pass into
laws, they didn t ultimately make good outcomes out of their promises. Under Reagan s presidency,
unemployment escalated to 10.8 percent, price went across the roof that caused the federal deficit to

Media and Visual Culture Interpreted the Notion of Black...
Black masculinity has been a very intricate and compelling notion. Through media and visual culture,
an operational interpretation of black masculinity was coined. From the emergence of the original
gangster (OG), to the successful, intellectual middle class black male Cliff Huxtable as evidenced by a
fictional character in the Cosby show. As more black celebrities advance in their career, more
specifically comedians, they further define and challenge the image of black masculinity. When it
comes to masculinity, there is a standard ideation of what the ideal male should be a wealthy,
heterosexual male. However, complicating this stigma with race makes this issue more pressing. What
is black masculinity and how is its image evolving through the use of comedy? Before answering that
question, we must first look at how masculinity and black masculinity is portrayed in comedy.
Robert Hanke, a professor of sociology at the University of Ryerson, in his article The mock macho
situation comedy: hegemonic masculinity and its reiteration , addresses the topic of masculinity in
comedy by examining how comedy works to reiterate hemogenic masculinity by looking at what he
terms two mock macho sitcoms Home Improvement and Coach. Hanke argues the role of comedy as a
strategy to reconstruct manhood from that of just physical actions but emotional as well. He supports
this claim by examining at the central male character Tim Allen, as a recombinant image of manhood,

Women In Vietnamese History
I have always admired the women in Vietnamese history that stood up for the right of the country.
Although Vietnam has always been a paternal country ever since the beginning of time, there has been
many cases of women in dynasties before that fought for the independent like Hai Ba Trung sisters.
These women were inspirational to both my grandmother and me. Grandma was born to a middle
class family in Hue, the old capital of Vietnam before the Anti France Resistance War. She was
protective of her family even at a young age, my great grandfather, a kindergarten teacher, being taken
away by the French. She took care of both her siblings and brought food to jail everyday for her father.

Women had been involved in the war, for the most part, such as carrying and transporting heavy
weapons to the remote frontline, they also were imprisoned, tortured, murdered by the enemies. My
grandmother told me about the time where she could not be able to do anything about her friend s
situation. She was executed in front of my grandma for taking a stand against the French soldiers. It
imprinted on her mind of how cruelty the war were. The liberation force created programs for
educating women, liberating women, and making them warriors during the war. My grandmother was
one of the former youth volunteers in northern Vietnam. Her patriotism is the main reason she chose to
volunteer to go to war. A young woman at age 21 took to the jungle and joined the guerrilla struggle,
specializing in mixing acid, alcohol, and a few other ingredients to make gunpowder. She did tasks
that were meant for men, her empowerment and her knowledge got her to that position.. The liberation
of women in the resistance wars against the French and Americans are very positive mention. From
the anti French resistance war against the US through, millions of women were involved in the
resistance movement. In the people s war, the women s force built a wide network to be able to

The Venetian Laggon and Overfishing
In recent years, the Venetian lagoon has been under the threat of devastating over fishing. This tragic
exploitation of a resource is largely promoted by the fact that property rights in the lagoon are not well
defined (Rossetto, 2000; Nunes, Silvestri, Pellizzato, Boatto, 2008; Longo, 2003). This paper will
investigate the failure of current policies in the Venetian lagoon to promote a sustainable yield, and
aims to discover what variables of a successful common property regime are missing from the
Venetian case. The issue of common property regimes in Italy has been approached previously by
multiple economists. Casari and Plott (2003), and McKean and Ostrom (1995) have investigated
common property in the context of the unique case of the Magnifica Comunità di Fiemme, a forestry
operation in northern Italy and successful common property regime which despite being a different
resource is faced with many of the same risks and struggles as those faced by regulators of the lagoon.
Conversely, Longo (2003) and Rossetto (2000) have addressed the failures of the current system in the
lagoon. To add to the analysis, this paper will synthesize this research to define what makes common
property regimes such as the Magnifica Comunità di Fiemme capable of sustainably producing, while
the regime in the Venetian Lagoon ultimately results in devastating overfishing. In order to uncover
the conditions which allow for the exploitation of fish in the lagoon, I will examine the issue with a

Examples Of De-Escalation
The Mental Health Commission of Canada stressed the importance on verbal communication and de
escalation strategies and techniques when dealing with PMI (7). As mentioned before, PMI have
feelings that police will mistreat them; therefore, it is the concern of the responding officer to
eradicate these feelings (13). By doing so, they are removing themselves as a perceived threat to the
PMI, therefore also decreasing the likelihood of a violent encounter. There are countless studies
showing the success of verbal de escalation techniques, but it takes a quick thinking, and most
importantly, a trained individual, to successfully implement these (12). Verbal techniques of de

Also, getting the PMI to say yes has been an often go to for first responders when dealing with PMI in
crisis. Studies show anger dissipates if you can get the person to agree with you, such as saying things
like You are angry because of XYZ, is this right? creates a situation where the PMI most often
responds with yes (16). In relation to that, another useful verbal de escalation technique is to develop a
feeling of shared interests. Studies show that people are more likely to agree with those who they
share commonalities with, so a mutual interest is an important thing to establish (16). This can involve
asking the PMI do you like dogs? If the PMI responds yes, the officer could say Same here, [PMI s
name]. I have a few pet dogs, their names are Jack and Jill. If the PMI responded no, then officer must
respond accordingly, as adaptability is a key communication skill in situations such as these (15). Not
only is this engaging in conversation which could distract the PMI from their anger, but it also
establishes to the PMI that the officer wants to get to know them, and has genuine interests with him

The Application Of Direct Effect
This question concerns the application of direct effect to the facts in question. In particular, Fergie
requires advice on whether or not he can rely on Directive 15/2012 and enforce his EU law rights in
the national court. Fergie takes legal proceedings against Charlston Council to claim compensation for
his injury.
The council seems to have complied with the domestic law which stipulate only that, the caterers has a
duty to eliminate unhealthy food. The Act is silent on genetically modified food. The act also does not
stipulate the percentage limit of the production of genetically modified food. Charlston Council is
therefore not in breach of the national provisions. The directive, however, sets out more stringent

In addition, directives can only be vertically directly effective: that is, they can only be enforced
against a state or a public authority (Marshall)
In this case, the conditions seem to be met. The Directive is clear and precise as well as unconditional.
It sets out the limit percentage of the production of genetically modified food, 2%, if it is more than
2%, member states has to take all the necessary measures to eliminate it. The Directive is not too
vague. There is no evidence to suggest any conditions are attached to these rights or that they are in
any way ambiguous. The implementation deadline has clearly passed. Fergie s claim is against the

case, it acts in the capacity of an employer (Marshall). Fergie s claim is therefore vertical and he can
rely on the Directive and the more generous rights within it in preference to the more limited
provisions of the national acts.
If Fergie is not employed by a state body or public body, the answer would be different as there would
be no direct effect, he cannot rely on Directive. The conditions for direct effect are not met.
While the conditions relating to clarity and precision as well as the passing of the implementation
deadline are the same as mentioned above and are thus not reiterated here, the requirement that there

An Egocentric Ex-Husband
The Heart of An Egocentric Ex Husband.
Robert Browning was a nineteenth century writer and poet whose works are famous worldwide. One of
his poems that has been analyzed constantly is My Last Duchess, a dramatic monologue of a Duke
who is talking to the count s messenger about wedding arrangements through speaking about his last
Duchess. He started off as simple, then his superiority complex took him over.
The Duke or the speaker in Robert Browning s My Last Duchess presents a calm demeanor at the
beginning of the poem.He shows off a portrait of his ex wife to a stranger, who we later learn is a
messenger from his future father in law.He says to the messenger That s my last Duchess painted on
the wall/Looking as if she were alive (Browning,1 2).This can be looked at as though she was/still is
an object of his affection and that s the reason why he had a portrait painted of her. ... Show more

Upon further speculation,a little more of the Duke s personality reveals itself.Much selfishness can be
found in the manner in which the Duke conceals the picture. He claims none puts by/The curtain I have

said that he might have been selfish and controlling towards her when she was alive,or in her death he
finally found a way to control her. This seemed both funny and ironic, since he has another young

Descartes Three Forms Of The Cogito Argument
Descartes believes that we experience the world through our senses and that because of defective
nature doubt, the only thing we know for certain is our minds. Dreyfus does not agree because he
believes that we experience the world directly and that telepresence is not a realistic concern.
Descartes defective nature doubt is plausible because the development technology has the potential to
satisfy Dreyfus s conditions for advanced telepresence and we could then call into question our
everyday experiences. In this paper, I will discuss Descartes three forms of doubt, the cogito argument
and its relationship to epistemology. I will also discuss the three conditions that, according to Dreyfus,
must be met by telepresence in order for it to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Why does he not consider that technology could advance far enough that a machine could satisfy these
conditions? It is extremely possible that technology will make it almost impossible to distinguish an
actual experience from a simulated experience. We have already come very close to simulating
maximum grip through laparoscopic surgery. A transparent display system, high resolution image and
wide field of view, multiple feedback channels, and consistent information shared between them are
needed to stimulate the senses into experiencing a level of telepresence (9). It seems realistic to
conceive of a piece of technology that is capable of refining these qualities to create the most realistic
experience possible. In addition, it is very likely that as we spend more time in simulated realities, we
will forget what these conditions feel like. Functioning indirectly through technology has the potential
to become the norm and our body in the world experiences will start to be questioned (13).
Advancements in technology discussed seem almost inconceivable using the information we have
now. However, wasn t the same thought a hundred years ago about the technology we have today?

Tsarina Alexandra Romanokov s Failure Of Russia
Tsarina Alexandra Romanov is accused of having a serious helping hand in the ultimate demise of
Russia and eventual revolution that occurred. While many of the Tsarina s actions did contribute to the
eventual failures in Russia, Tsarina Alexandra was dealing with much more than just the political
nature of Russia during the time of World War I. The Tsarina found herself struggling with finding a
balance between the Russian distrust due to her lineage, her struggle to produce an heir, and finding
her place with Tsar Nicholas II away at the front. In a time when the Romanov family was the center
of distrust, the German princess found herself conflicted between her strong religious beliefs, Russian
patriotism, and her desire to protect Russian aristocracy in order to provide her son a future as Tsar.
With all these conflicting allegiances in her life, Tsarina Alexandra found herself trying to establish
her role as a leader of the Russian people, a mother, and a wife while also trying to balance her duty as
a Tsarina in the scope of family and war. Tsarina Alexandra Romonov was born in Darmstadt,
Germany as Alix of Hesse and by Rhine to the second daughter of Queen Victoria. This connection to
both the Queen of England and Germany was problematic for the Tsarina because she found herself
trying to be Russian, German, and English which ultimately produced distrust between her and the
Russian people. Though the Tzar Nicholas II showed her love and interest, the Russian society

Similarities Between The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button...
Francis Scott Fitzgerald s short story The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (1922) and David Fincher
s film of the same title (2008) tell the curious story of a man who is born old and ages backwards.
Fitzgerald and Fincher challenge their audiences to consider different themes and ideas throughout
their texts and utilise different techniques to do so. While the stories of the two texts remain similar,
they differ in their effectiveness. David Fincher and Francis Scott Fitzgeralds, The Curious Case of
Benjamin Button present the theme of aging, but do so differently. Fincher explains that life is not
defined by age whereas Fitzgerald present the sombre idea that age defines us in everything we do.
The dogged determination of the characters ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fincher uses the recurring motif of a man getting struck by lightning to show that life should be lived
in the moment and not lived in fear, because we never know what s coming As opposed to Fitzgerald s
idea of life is dictated by your circumstances. Throughout the story Benjamin is alone and is not
connected emotionally to anyone in his life, he follows a linear path not branching out, whilst Fincher
s character experiences many paths, becoming a sailor on a tug boat where that captain only cares
about his contribution not his age Why is it when you showed up you were no bigger than a pollard
with one foot in the grave... What s your secret? Well captain, you *did* drink a lot. Both authors use
the setting to enhance their separate ideas, Fincher uses the less aristocracy focused period to allow
Benjamin to live out these adventures meeting new people along the way, compared to Fitzgerald
whose setting only allows for the focus of the aristocracy lifestyle to rule the acceptance of Benjamin
in Baltimore. He would have to introduce this this septuagenarian for a dark instant Mr. Button wished
passionately that his son was black (pg.4). Fincher and Fitzgerald both insist that life is there to be
lived but present different views on how you can live

Emotions, The Ability And The Trait Based Perspectives
There are two perspectives in the study of emotions, the ability and the trait based perspectives. The
ability based perspective views emotions as a skill/tool that can be learned through social interaction.
The trait based perspective is concerned more with personalities, specifically how the different
personalities adapt to personal and social implementation (Salovey, 1990). In the past most researchers
of interpersonal communication have look at emotions within our social relationships using the trait
perspective. In recent studies though, some researchers have began to look at emotions within social
interactions using the ability perspective.
Researchers have proposed that there are multiple types of intelligence. One type of intelligence is
social intelligence. Initially social intelligence was very broad, being defined as the ability to
understand and manage people. With further research, several subsets were added to this premise. The
subset that is relative to this present research is, emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence is
define as, the recognition and use of one s own and others emotional states to solve problems and
regulate behavior, (Salovey, 1990, p.188). Emotional Intelligence (EI) was conceptualized in the field
of organizational communication.
Within work environments people develop ongoing relationships between themselves and their
colleagues, they become dependent on each other to achieve shared goals, and have to be aware of
how their

Macbeth Bit The Apple
Macbeth Bit the Apple
Aristotle, the ancient Greek philosopher, defines a tragic hero as, a person who must evoke a sense of
fear and pity in the audience. He is considered a man of misfortune that comes to him through the
error of judgment. (1). The fall of the tragic hero is often blamed upon the characteristic of hubris or
excessive pride toward the natural order of things. To the Greeks such conceit to the natural order or in
their case the gods, was punished with terrible wrath. In Greek tragedies the hero was often pitied in
his fallen plight but not forgiven and instead received a bleak outcome. However, on the opposite side
of the western world, Christian Drama leaves a ray of hope for our tragic hero.
In the tragedy of Macbeth, a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the end this ultimately creates a feeling of regret which, in the case of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth,
drive them insane. When Macbeth killed Duncan his mental stability was questionable at best. He did
things such as visualize a floating dagger and see the ghost of a dead Banquo. Committing such a
crime as murder leaves anyone with regret for the rest of their life and that was deeply evident through
the play. We can clearly see Macbeth fall into his regret and guilt when he says this quote after killing
Duncan, One cried, God bless us! and Amen, the other, as they had seen me with these hangman s
hands. List ning their fear, I could not say Amen, when they did say God bless us . Methought, I heard
a voice cry, Sleep no more! Macbeth does murder sleep . (Shakespeare 2.2.29 32). The murder that
starts with his ambition to become King ruins Macbeth s life and kickstarts his descension into a regret
that leads him to a tragic dementia. The word that Macbeth used to say so easily, Amen, all of the
sudden became a word that is impossible to say. Macbeth believes that he will no longer have the
protection by his God because he had committed such an appalling crime that is unforgivable.
Furthermore into the story the guilt only becomes heavier like a bucket being filled with water. After
Macbeth sees a ghost of Banquo, he says, I am in blood Stepp d in so far, that, should I

Rhetorical Devices In The Scarlet Letter Essay
Born in Salem, Massachusetts in 1804, Nathaniel Hawthorne wrote many novels and short stories.
Hawthorne s best novel, The Scarlet Letter, overtook the role of the first truly, American novel. His
use of rhetorical devices, especially symbolism, established him as one of the most studied authors of
all time. In order to convey meaning or to persuade, Hawthorne utilized numerous rhetorical devices.
Rhetorical devices in The Scarlet Letter evoked emotions of the audience. In Hawthorne s work, the
devices helped the audience elaborate on the novel. Hawthorne used rhetorical devices to show his
character s turmoil. He did this through the character of Hester Prynne, a social outcast bound to
isolation by her sins. In novel, The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne, Hawthorne depicts Hester
s inner turmoil through the portrayal of the sinful nature of human beings utilizing rhetorical devices.
To begin with, Hester s sin drove the story, but after the community established her as a sinner, she
overcame her sins but she still struggled through other characters. Instead of depicting Hester s inner
turmoil directly to Hester, Hawthorne portrays her tumult through other characters in her life such as
Dimmesdale, Chillingworth, and the community. Dimmesdale proclaimed to Hester, If thou feelest it
to be for thy soul s peace, and that thy earthly punishment will thereby be made more effectual to
salvation, I charge thee to speak out the name of thy fellow sinner and

The Causes And Consequences Of The Logistics Revolution In...
An organization s strategy is the overall plan for an entire business that sets out how the organization
will use its major resources. In other words, an organization s strategy is a plan of action aimed at
reaching specific goals and remaining in good attitude with clients and vendors. On the other hands,
an establishment s structure is the way the pieces of the organization fit together internally.
Strategy focuses on the ways to be dynamic with an organised plan to achieve a goal or benefit within
a firm/corporation.
Structure is a series of organisational techniques to relate/arrange between parts or elements of
something more complex.
℗4. Logistics revolution in a business context
Logistic revolution has evolved businesses improving the efficiency of strategy and structure, leading
to a profitability increase with firms inducing an optimisation belief with selected specialist skills.
Bonacich and Wilson
The logistics revolution and its consequences are the central points of focus to their book. They define
the logistics revolution as a quiet change to how consumer goods are being produced and delivered (p.
3). It has a sizeable impact on society and the way it is organized (p. 3). The revolution is how the
entire cycle of production and distribution is now viewed as a single integrated unit that requires its
own specialists for analysis and implementation (p. 3). Following arguments advanced Marxist

The Importance Of Freedom In Journalism And The Freedom Of...
As Americans, we are taught from childhood to internalize the importance of freedom and to sing the
praises of the land of the free. Political rallies, presidential speeches, and Internet forums light up day
after day with fierce debates over freedom of speech or religion or the right to bear arms, but one
freedom most of us fail to prioritize as we should is one unique to developed countries yet absolutely
crucial of a true democracy: freedom of the press.
Journalists expose government corruption, systemic and societal injustices, business malpractices,
human rights violations, and more truths that government and businesses would rather hide. Despite
efforts to keep certain acts under wraps, it is imperative that citizens understand all motives and
beliefs of those in power in order to be fully informed when fulfilling their civic duties of voting and
partaking in political discourse. That is the media s job, yet we are entering an era where popular
opinion of the media is ever declining and leaders encourage silencing the free press that brings to
light these pivotal issues. In my future, I hope to use a Bachelor s or Master s degrees in Journalism
and Political Science to reestablish the currently wavering honesty and integrity in some areas of
journalism that contribute to dangerous anti media ideas. We need to protect our democracy by
demanding honesty and transparency in government and big business, but this goal can never be
achieved if our society responds to

Light Intensity of Incoherent Lights
Abstract:
To investigate whether light intensity of incoherent lights varies inversely with the square of the
distance holds true in real life situations and under laboratory conditions. Techniques utilised in the
experiment included measuring the distance from the light source to the light sensor, recording the
light intensity of a light source and recording observations with accuracy. The light from the light
source that passes through the cardboard cylinder tube changes as the distance from the light sensor
increases. The results show that light intensity of incoherent lights varies inversely with the square of
the distance in real life situations and under laboratory conditions.

The incoherent lights that were used are microscopic, fluorescent and LED light.
Visible light consists of several different colours. The different colours represent different wavelengths
of the radiation spectrum. One lumen is equivalent to 1/680 Watt of light with a wavelength of 555
nm. The relationship between illumination and visual response renders the lumen the preferred
photometric unit of luminous flux for practical applications. For example, the electric light bulb emits
light which consist of many different wavelengths. The visible light waves consists of a continuous
range of wavelengths or frequencies. There are numerous of situations that could happen when a light
wave with a single frequency strikes an object. An object could absorb the light wave. In this case, the
energy will be converted to heat. However, the object could reflect the light wave depending on the
material of the object. Furthermore, the object could transmit the light waves. Therefore, the manner
in which visible light interacts with an object is dependent upon the frequency of the light and the
nature of the atoms of the object. Therefore, visible light affects the luminous intensity, thus it might
not obey the inverse square law.

International Trade Has Dramatically Increased...
International trade has significantly increased with the globalisation of the world economy. The rapid
growth in the world economy and the modernisation of the economy has led significant cross border
exchange of goods, services and capital. Between 2000 and 2014, the export of goods and services
exports grew by an annual average of 7.09% while imports of goods and services grew by an annual
average of 7.21%. This growth is higher than the average GDP growth over the same time which
averaged 3.99% annually. In Kenya, exports and imports grew by an annual average of 4.49% and
8.26% respectively between 2000 and 2014. This compares unfavourably with the annual average
GDP growth rate of 4.39% over the same time . A significant proportion of international trade
comprises of trade between affiliates of multinational enterprises (MNE). For instance in the United
States of America (USA) intra firm cross border trade between 2005 and 2014 ranged between 39.8%
to 42.3% of the total value of cross border trade in goods with a low of 39.8% being recorded in 2008
and a high of 42.3% being recorded in 2014. The value of intra firm trade for USA import from Africa
constituted 31.9% of the total value of imports from Africa by the USA in 2014 while intra firm export
by the USA to Africa accounted for 15.6% of the total exports from the USA to Africa in 2014 . Data
on intra firm trade from African countries to other regions of the world is rare. It can be inferred that

Coastal Storms Affecting Connecticut s Coastal Populations
Sea level rise caused by global warming poses clear threats to coastal populations in Connecticut. In
fact, models have depicted that the rate of global sea level rise could elevate by two to five times by
the end of this century, and this will affect the health of residents and the state s economy due to
increase the impacts of coastal storms in urban areas (Gornitz et al., 2004). Reports have shown that
Connecticut s coastline has historically been at risk due to coastal storms (Frumhoff et al., 2007). For
instance, a 2007 synthesis report of Northeast Climate Impacts Assessment (NECIA) suggested that
there might be an increase in the number of winter storms received in coastal Connecticut (particularly
late in the winter). Also, in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Reports revealed that by 2080s, the projected flood heights for locations in Connecticut (e.g.,
Norwalk, Westport, Bridgeport, Greenwich Cove, Shippan Point, Stamford, and Stratford) could range
from 11.5 to 13 feet for a Category 1 hurricane, and 14.5 to 15.7 feet for a Category 3 storm (Gornitz
et al., 2004). Therefore, rising sea level could account for 18 22% of the increase in flood height (in
the high sea level rise scenario) or 6 8% in the lower case (Gornitz et al., 2004). With the rising sea
level, floods generated by storms of this magnitude could approach 18 feet by the 2080s (Gornitz et
al., 2004). The increase in the projected flood level cities in Connecticut will be greatly affected such
as Bridgeport and New Haven. As an illustration, a significant portion of both Bridgeport and New
Haven lies within the high risk flood zone, and during severe storms this place a large population,
private property, and infrastructure at high risk. In New Haven, some infrastructures that are at risk

Distracted Driving, And The Dangers Of Distracted Driving
In this essay it will talk about what distracted driving is and the dangers of distracted driving.
Distracted driving is the act of driving while enabling yourself into other activities and not paying
attention to the road or others around you. Since cars have been invented distracted driving has been
around in society. People say that distracted driving is the new drunk driving, it is actually supposably
more dangerous the drinking and driving. Also they say the more a distracted driver drives with the
distraction the more they get comfortable with it, then the more it happens. It is hard to prevent
distracted driving since it is temporary, they usually do the distraction for a short period of time then
put it away. Distracted driving is very selfish and wrong, people who are distracted drivers pretty
much are telling everyone else on the road that them and their wants are more important than their
own life or other drivers on the road s life. Distracted driving can affect any age groups, but typically
it is the younger age groups between the ages of fifteen to twenty nine. Truth is though everyone some
point in time in their life has been a distracted driver. Ten percent of all drivers fifteen to nineteen are
involved in fatal crashes revolved around distractions. There are many ways you can get distracted
while driving such as cognitive distractions, which is when your mind is not focused on driving, then
there is visual distractions which is when you the driver is looking at anything besides the road,
auditory, which is like when your music is too loud or responding to a ringing device, lastly the final
type of distraction is manual distraction which is when you take one or both of your hands off the
wheel for any specific reason. Some things that are considered distracted driving are smoking, eating
or drinking, adjusting your radio or climate settings, adjusting seat belts or mirrors, talking to your
passengers, using an electrical device such as a GPS or a cell phone, also just getting lost in your own
thought. Distracted driving is one of the leading causes of deaths, also it is usually caused by cell
phone use. Eleven teens die every day as a result of texting while driving. Kansas is was of the

Myiasis from Larvae and Pubic Lice
Myiasis (from the Greek myi , fly) is defined as the invasion of living tissue by dipterous larvae.
Several fly species such as Oestrus ovis have been reported to cause myiasis, affecting humans either
directly, when the female fly deposits the larvae on the conjunctiva or eyelids of a human host rather
than a sheep or a goat, or indirectly, through dirty hands. Ocular myiasis presentations include external
ophthalmomyiasis, when the larvae is found in the external ocular tissues, leading to ocular surface
disorders (conjunctivitis, punctuate keratitis) or pseudoorbital cellulitis, and internal
ophthalmomyiasis, a rare condition with a clinical course ranging from asymptomatic to severe
uveitis, retinal detachment and optic atrophy. Several methods of treatment have been reported
depending on the location of the larva. Management of external myiasis includes the mechanical
removal of the larvae in association with topical administration of steroids to reduce conjunctival
inflammation.(1) This may be a challenging maneuver, as the larva tends to firmly attach to the ocular
surface. Some authors recommend the use of topical anesthetic to loosen the larval attachment.(2)
Double eversion of the eyelids is mandatory to ensure that larvae have been completely removed.
Early removal decreases the potential of vision loss and larvae dissemination. For subretinal larvae,
argon laser photocoagulation has been used with successful results. Vitrectomy and retinotomy is
recommended if

  • 2. The Importance Of A Salary Cap In Professional Sports A Salary Cap in Professional Sports is Crucial. A salary cap in all four major professional sports is unfathomably crucial. A salary cap is a set maximum or minimum amount of money that a team is allowed to spend on its players (Cushman 3). The four major professional sports are the National Football League or NFL, Major League Baseball or MLB, the National Basketball Association or NBA, and the National Hockey League or NHL (Cushman 1). Professional sports are often perceived as one of the last true bastions of capitalism, where player salaries are constrained only by what the market will bear. Since the 1990 s, however, [professional] sports leagues have grown increasingly concerned over the increase in player salaries, not only in terms of the absolute cost required to field a competitive team, but also in terms of parity, or the extent to which teams in a league are fairly evenly matched (Cushman 1). Professional sports are bursting with unfair competition and suffering fans due to either the lack of a salary cap or a fortified set of restrictions in the leagues that already have a salary cap in place. A well structured salary cap will allow professional sports to thrive for years to come. Salary caps must be implemented into professional sports because an equal playing field is enormously important in maintaining the respectable world of professional sports. Plus, all franchises and the fans of those franchises deserve equal chances to win heedless of how big of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Richard T Sherman was the commander of the Union Army and was going up against the Confederate Army of Tennessee, commanded by Joseph E. Johnston. Sherman was beating Johnston again and again with flanking maneuvers pushing the Confederates back all the way to Kennesaw Mountain. Sherman decided to change his tactics and ordered a frontal assault rather than another flanking maneuver. John Logan and his men assaulted Pigeon Hill while George Thomas led his men on another aggressive attack on Cheatham Hill. Both failed miserably with costly casualties. The Union did however manage to gain position on the Confederate s left flank. With their left flank exposed, the Confederates withdrew. James Hurst s use of symbolism suggests that the Scarlet Ibis is a symbol of Doodle s life and his journey to be able to walk, even though his disabilities challenge that. The narrator teaches Doodle to walk out of this embarrassment towards him, all because he isn t like a normal six year old kid. As Doodle learns how to walk his brother wants to teach him how to be more like the other six year old kids out of his embarrassment towards Doodle. That embarrassment lead to his own pride overcoming his intuition. The narrator s distorted judgement causes him to want to teach Doodle to run, to swim, to climb trees and to fight when his disability barely allows him to walk. Wake up, Doodle. Wake up. • 7. The Cult You re By Kalle Lasn The phenomenon of consumerism is quiet powerful due to the impact on individual s lives. Society has come to the point, happiness is associated with consumption. However, the way consumerism works, is if the items being purchased gives temporary happiness. There individuals are always buying the latest products to remain happy. In the text, The Cult you re in Kalle Lasn, discusses a cult like nature of consumer culture on Americans. Lasn uses the work cult as a metaphor; he does not mean an actual cult but American consumers seem to be in a cult like nature. The teen years or rebel years, is usually spent in the mall with friends with the endeavor to get away with stealing, drinking or doing drugs by the authorities. Basically, doing such acts that one knows is forbidden, however if you get away with it, gives you a feeling of having great power over authority figures. • 8. Satire In Voltaire s Candide Voltaire wrote Candide in 1759. When reading Candide, you will notice that it has a satirical tone. It is a satirical piece because of its syntax, irony, paradox, and diction. In this particular quote from Voltaire s Candide, we see the old woman s point of view. Throughout the book, we see the character Candide and his loved ones enjoying wealth and possessions. The chosen quote implies one having money, friends, and security but still not being emotionally secure in life. This passage shows that, as people, we not only struggle with humanity, racism, discrimination and oppression, but we also suffer from our inner demons. These negative thoughts can affect the relationships we are in, and even worse it can interfere with our peace of mind. When they were not arguing, the boredom was so fierce that one day the old woman ventured to say: I should like to know which is worse, being raped a hundred times by negro pirates, having a buttock cut off, running the gauntlet in the Bulgar army, being flogged and hanged in an auto da fé, being dissected and rowing in the galleys experiencing, in a word, all the miseries through which we have passed or else just sitting here and doing nothing (411)? Change management enables employees to adopt a change so that business objectives and outcomes can be achieved. Whenever there is some sort of organizational change employees can experience varied levels of discomfort. As managing director leading change requires juggling a number of psychological factors, such as how employees think, how they perceive their current situation, how they will perceive a new change (Price and Lawson 2008). To ensure the success of any change initiative, manager s efforts should go first towards considering how your employees will perceive the change and approaching this in the best way. Planning, leading organizing, negotiating and controlling are four management functions that can be used and implemented to keep employees motivated towards company goals and reassured about the businesses direction in a time of change. Organizations are continually faced with a changing environment, therefore a need for a shift in strategic direction, must be implemented. The successes of major organizational change initiatives are almost always dependent on the incorporation of its workers and employees to help implement these changes. A ... Beowulf begins by slaying a creature known as Grendel without any trouble, but with his later opponents he struggles to win and is even harmed. As the story progresses, Beowulf s battles with monsters escalate in difficulty, cost, and reward. The primary difference between Beowulf s three battles was the level of difficulty each trial consisted of. Even though these religions differ greatly from Christianity they thrive in China because the communists rule in china suppresses Christian beliefs. The book The Religion of China states how the book is set up. It states The three parts into which the book is divided show a clear logical unity in Weber s argument. In part I, Weber examined the economic political and social aspects of Chinese society, and presented a mixture of structural or material characteristics, some of which were favorable, and some unfavorable to the development of capitalism; in other words, comparison of material conditions yielded no decisive distinction between Chinese and Western societies in terms of propensity for capitalistic development. In part II, Weber presented a decisive contrast between Confucian values and the ascetic protestant ethic in the sense that the former lacked the dynamic motivation which the latter had for capitalistic development. Part III contains Weber s characterization of Taoism as a system of negative and conservative values incapable of developing a dynamic social orientation toward capitalism. Through media and visual culture, an operational interpretation of black masculinity was coined. From the emergence of the original gangster (OG), to the successful, intellectual middle class black male Cliff Huxtable as evidenced by a fictional character in the Cosby show. As more black celebrities advance in their career, more specifically comedians, they further define and challenge the image of black masculinity. When it comes to masculinity, there is a standard ideation of what the ideal male should be a wealthy, heterosexual male. However, complicating this stigma with race makes this issue more pressing. What is black masculinity and how is its image evolving through the use of comedy? Before answering that question, we must first look at how masculinity and black masculinity is portrayed in comedy. Robert Hanke, a professor of sociology at the University of Ryerson, in his article The mock macho situation comedy: hegemonic masculinity and its reiteration , addresses the topic of masculinity in comedy by examining how comedy works to reiterate hemogenic masculinity by looking at what he terms two mock macho sitcoms Home Improvement and Coach. This tragic exploitation of a resource is largely promoted by the fact that property rights in the lagoon are not well defined (Rossetto, 2000; Nunes, Silvestri, Pellizzato, Boatto, 2008; Longo, 2003). This paper will investigate the failure of current policies in the Venetian lagoon to promote a sustainable yield, and aims to discover what variables of a successful common property regime are missing from the Venetian case. The issue of common property regimes in Italy has been approached previously by multiple economists. Conversely, Longo (2003) and Rossetto (2000) have addressed the failures of the current system in the lagoon. The ability based perspective views emotions as a skill/tool that can be learned through social interaction. The trait based perspective is concerned more with personalities, specifically how the different personalities adapt to personal and social implementation (Salovey, 1990). In the past most researchers of interpersonal communication have look at emotions within our social relationships using the trait perspective. In recent studies though, some researchers have began to look at emotions within social interactions using the ability perspective. Visible light consists of several different colours. The different colours represent different wavelengths of the radiation spectrum. One lumen is equivalent to 1/680 Watt of light with a wavelength of 555 nm. The relationship between illumination and visual response renders the lumen the preferred photometric unit of luminous flux for practical applications. For example, the electric light bulb emits light which consist of many different wavelengths. The visible light waves consists of a continuous range of wavelengths or frequencies. There are numerous of situations that could happen when a light wave with a single frequency strikes an object. An object could absorb the light wave. In this case, the energy will be converted to heat. However, the object could reflect the light wave depending on the material of the object. Furthermore, the object could transmit the light waves. • 33. Coastal Storms Affecting Connecticut s Coastal Populations Sea level rise caused by global warming poses clear threats to coastal populations in Connecticut. In fact, models have depicted that the rate of global sea level rise could elevate by two to five times by the end of this century, and this will affect the health of residents and the state s economy due to increase the impacts of coastal storms in urban areas (Gornitz et al., 2004). Reports have shown that Connecticut s coastline has historically been at risk due to coastal storms (Frumhoff et al., 2007). For instance, a 2007 synthesis report of Northeast Climate Impacts Assessment (NECIA) suggested that there might be an increase in the number of winter storms received in coastal Connecticut (particularly late in the winter). Also, in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Reports revealed that by 2080s, the projected flood heights for locations in Connecticut (e.g., Norwalk, Westport, Bridgeport, Greenwich Cove, Shippan Point, Stamford, and Stratford) could range from 11.5 to 13 feet for a Category 1 hurricane, and 14.5 to 15.7 feet for a Category 3 storm (Gornitz et al., 2004). Therefore, rising sea level could account for 18 22% of the increase in flood height (in the high sea level rise scenario) or 6 8% in the lower case (Gornitz et al., 2004). With the rising sea level, floods generated by storms of this magnitude could approach 18 feet by the 2080s (Gornitz et al., 2004). The increase in the projected flood level cities in Connecticut will be greatly affected such as Bridgeport and New Haven. As an illustration, a significant portion of both Bridgeport and New Haven lies within the high risk flood zone, and during severe storms this place a large population, private property, and infrastructure at high risk. In New Haven, some infrastructures that are at risk include the New Haven railroad station and track yards, the Tweed New Haven Airport, ramps to the Connecticut ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. Myiasis from Larvae and Pubic Lice Myiasis (from the Greek myi , fly) is defined as the invasion of living tissue by dipterous larvae. Several fly species such as Oestrus ovis have been reported to cause myiasis, affecting humans either directly, when the female fly deposits the larvae on the conjunctiva or eyelids of a human host rather than a sheep or a goat, or indirectly, through dirty hands. Ocular myiasis presentations include external ophthalmomyiasis, when the larvae is found in the external ocular tissues, leading to ocular surface disorders (conjunctivitis, punctuate keratitis) or pseudoorbital cellulitis, and internal ophthalmomyiasis, a rare condition with a clinical course ranging from asymptomatic to severe uveitis, retinal detachment and optic atrophy. Several methods of treatment have been reported depending on the location of the larva. Management of external myiasis includes the mechanical removal of the larvae in association with topical administration of steroids to reduce conjunctival inflammation.(1) This may be a challenging maneuver, as the larva tends to firmly attach to the ocular surface. Some authors recommend the use of topical anesthetic to loosen the larval attachment.(2) Double eversion of the eyelids is mandatory to ensure that larvae have been completely removed. Early removal decreases the potential of vision loss and larvae dissemination. For subretinal larvae, argon laser photocoagulation has been used with successful results. Vitrectomy and retinotomy is recommended if ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
