should have their blood tested once a week, between six months and four years of age should have
their blood tested once every two weeks, over four years of age and all adults should have their blood
tested once a month. Someone with PKU will usually need to have regular blood tests throughout their

Anne Bradstreet s Poem, My Dear And Loving Husband
Throughout history women have always taken second chair next to men. Women were thought to be
the weaker, less intellectual, and less valuable sex. Many women accepted their position in life, and
never bothered to strive for more, however, Anne Bradstreet did. She knew she could be much more
than the simple house wife she was meant be; she valued herself to be more, and took to poetry as a
means of communicating her views on life; not knowing one day she would be the famous female
American poet she is today. Even with eight children, Anne Bradstreet found time to express her
interests and views by writing in her poetry journal. Out of all her many poems, To My Dear and
Loving Husband stuck out as, one with a simple message, with hidden meanings throughout.
Though Bradstreet is known as one who made large bounds for her fellow women, the fact that she
relies on her husband for a sense of self is present in the second line of the poem. Bradstreet using the
word man, not the corresponding term husband ; this grants him a level of independence from the
relationship that she does not give herself (Kelly). The fact that there seems to be unevenness in the
marriage is indicative of the puritan culture. Puritan women are vulnerable and servers to their
husbands, not partners as they are thought of today. Even with her role as wife Bradstreet is able to
challenge many of the stereotypes that women faced during the late 1600 s. If it was not for the use of
poetry,

Essay about Impact of Sea Otters on Community Ecology
Introduction Sea otters (Enhydra lutris) are marine mammals capable of spending their entire lives in
water. Being carnivorous in nature, they feed on sea urchins, crabs, fishes, mussels and clams. They
are referred to as keystone species due to their profound impact on marine ecology. The interaction
between sea otters, sea urchins and kelp forests has been studied as a model for the impact of predator
prey interactions on community ecology. Sea otters are keystone predators, whose presence has a far
reaching influence on the marine food web by affecting the populations of sea urchins, which
indirectly affects the populations of kelp ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, sea otters play an indirect, yet vital role in the preservation of kelp forests. This in turn
protects kelp forests and other macroalgae, which would have otherwise been depleted due to grazing
by sea urchins. Where sea otters abound so do lush kelp forests, and where sea otters are absent the
habitat is typically deforested by hyperabundant sea urchins (Soulé et al 1240). The significance of
this interaction can be wholly surmised only when the importance of kelp forests is understood. Kelp
forests are a source of food and habitat for dozens of other coastal species (Soulé et al 1240).
Innumerable coastal marine organisms thrive on kelp forests, enhancing biodiversity of the region.
Therefore, to maintain the diversity and richness of coastal marine ecology, sea otters should be
preserved, who indirectly lead to the preservation of kelps. Impact of sea otters on community ecology
The presence or absence of sea otters influences marine ecology at the community level. Studies have
shown that kelp forests enhance the underwater environment, providing a suitable habitat for fishes.
The declining kelp beds in California in the mid 1900 s propelled the Kelp Habitat Improvement
Project, whereby attempts were made to eliminate sea urchins that are

Sophocles The Plight Of Oedipus s Reign
The Plight of Oedipus s Reign In the famous playwright, Sophocles Oedipus the King , a Greek
tragedy which explores the idea of destiny, Oedipus is a tragic hero, who, in the exploration of his
troubled past, discovers the truth of actions that render him guilty of the heinous crimes of murder,
and incest. Although Oedipus was not privy to the truth behind his actions, it does not make these
crimes any less unlawful, or unethical, proving that Oedipus is guilty of the murder of his father,
Laius, and of having an incestuous relationship with his mother, Jocasta. In The Oedipus Complex ,
Sigmund Freud argues that mankind is weak, and impotent , constantly struggling to satisfy the will of
the gods and accept their own flaws. (Freud 1381).

Common Misconceptions About Video Games
Shigeru Miyamoto, a legendary video game developer, expressed his thoughts on video games, Video
games are bad for you? That s what they said about rock n roll. There have been common
misconceptions about video games being a bad influence on children due to their violent content they
can have and leading children to be more violent. Miyamoto disagree with this misconception using
rock n roll as an example. He stated just like how rock n roll was considered bad in the past
generation.therefore the current generation of children and adults will not be affected by video games
in a detrimental way. There have been many case studies disapproving this myth about how video
games are bad for children. Video games can be a future educational resource ... Show more content

However, these misconceptions are debunked by news sources such as PBS. Henry Jenkins, an MIT
Professor, wrote a list of reasons on video games myths on the PBS website. He believes the link
between youth violence and video games are merely a coincidence, because in the modern age, more
and more of today s youth are connected to social media and technology, and it really depends on the
person s mental stability. There has been research on how the more aggressive people enjoy playing
more aggressive games like the aforementioned game, Doom, and that there are no conclusions that
link video games to change normal people to killers. Incidentally, these misconceptions of youth
violences linked to video games are still commonly believed today by a small group of people around
the word despite the growing popularity of video games in modern day culture. All things considered,
video games can be used as an educational tool in providing a lesson in educational facilities.I will go
over how video games can be used in education and also how it can be applied to academic core

Essay on Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Case Study
Normal Anatomy and Physiology of Motor Function
The two components of the central nervous system (CNS) are the brain and the spinal cord.
Communication between the brain and the spinal cord happens through motor neurons, which are
nerve cells that enable motor movement. Each motor neuron is made up of a cell body, which holds all
the cell components, dendrites which send information it receives to the cell body, and an axon which
sends nerve impulses to the muscle (Porth Matfin, 2009). As electrical impulses are sent through the
motor neuron, it stimulates the muscle fibers in the body to move. This is the process in which motor
function happens. Therefore, the basic abilities to breathe, speak, swallow, walk and button a shirt are
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The manifestations of ALS are caused by the location of motor neuron death. When upper motor
neurons die, the symptoms include problems controlling fine movements, spasms, dysphagia,
dysphonia and dysarthria (Porth Matfin, 2009). Manifestations of lower motor neuron destruction
include fasciculations, weakness, muscle atrophy, and hyporeflexia (Porth Matfin, 2009, p. 1284).
Patients with early signs of ALS usually complain of feeling weak on one side, which is due to the
slowing of electrical impulses to that group of muscles (Ignatavicius Workman, 2010). Since the
impulses are slowed, they are not receiving adequate electrical stimulation to move and the person
feels weak. As the disease progresses, all the motor neurons die and are not regenerated so, the patient
is left paralyzed, losing the ability to speak, swallow and breathe (Ignatavicius Workman, 2010).
A distinctive characteristic of ALS is that although the motor neurons die, the brain, cognitive
functions and sensory neurons stay intact (Porth Matfin, 2009). This makes the disease especially
devastating because patients become trapped inside their dying body, with a fully alert mind, but are
unable to move. It is not known what causes the exact death of the motor neurons in the body, but five
percent to 10% of cases are familial; the others are believed to be sporadic (Porth Matfin, 2009, p.

Chapter 2
Literature Review
2.1 Introduction This chapter includes the literary aspect of Bioluminescence that deals with the
glowing characteristics in jewelry, and also the availability and techniques already being practiced in
the market.
2.2 Bioluminescence Bioluminescence is the ability of living organisms to emit light. Apart from
Fireflies, glowworms and Jack O lantern mushrooms, bacteria, Fungi, Algae and 90% of marine life
exhibit this phenomenon. Kwok describes how in Chinese folklore, people used to use fireflies in
order for a source of light, and now after so many years scientists explained this phenomenon and also
explained the organisms reason for glow. (Kwok, A Mysteruoius Red Glow)

Essay on Never Giving Up in Steinbeck s The Moon is Down
Never Giving Up in Steinbeck s The Moon is Down
Machine Gun fire blasts over your head while your hiding in your home, the only protection available.
A slight whistle begins in the distance but it soon becomes closer and closer, its sound becomes louder
and more intense with every inch of ground that it covers. Then as soon as it started the whistle
becomes an explosion killing half of your friends and destroying any thing in its path. The end is near
as your town is conquered and you think there is nobody left to fight. But is there? This is a short
description of what the townspeople of a small European town may have heard the day their town was
seized by the German army in John Steinbeck s novel The Moon is Down (1942). ... Show more

The two different opinions change the way that the readers understand the story. This means that if an
author wants his entire audience to understand the novel the same he must have a strong central
theme. Steinbeck states this message he wants to portray to his readers on page 15. Steinbeck writes,
Orden stuck to his point. But there was resistance? Yes but it was foolish to resist. He then goes on to
say, but they resisted. This comes from a conversation between the Mayor of the town and the Colonel
Lanser shortly after the German army had occupied the town. The two go on to have a conversation
about what is going to happen to the people of the town and why the Germans have taken this
particular town. This starts the main problem of the story and is the first adversity that the town must
overcome.
Later on in the story, the German army has began to ration the town s food so the people work. This is
a major problem because this gives the army complete control over the town and if the town does not
comply with the wishes of Colonel Lanser then they can simply take the food away. On page 78,
Molly a normal working woman from the town is confronted by Lieutenant Tonder who is one of the
commanders of the army, Molly glanced quickly at the door. She said, we are a conquered people,
Lieutenant. You have taken the food away, I m hungry. I ll like you better if you feed me.

Online Subscription Based Music Services
1.
Online subscription based music services (like Spotify) compare lists of songs users have played using
if statements and for loops to find recommended songs for us. If a certain percentage of songs are the
same in the list of songs two users have played, the system will recommend songs to the first user
from the list of the other one.
Computer and mobile games use all programming concepts we have covered in this course: they store
lots of data for example boolean variables to check if objectives have been completed and integers or
floats to keep track of the user s score, they use loops and functions for all kinds of things like running
the game while the player s health is above 0 or a function to make the player character move when a
key is pressed. Perhaps the most obvious programming concept used in games is the if statement, to
check if an obstacle is hit (by checking if the distance between the moving object and the obstacle is
smaller than a certain value) or to make enemies stop moving if their health is zero.
Delivery companies use lists (databases) to store tracking numbers and if statements to check if a
number entered into their online tracking system matches any in the list of these numbers. If it does,
they display the estimated delivery date and time (which are stored in variables) and otherwise display
an error message informing the user that the number they entered is incorrect.
Online messaging programs also use lists to store all kinds of user

History Of The FSA
The motto of the federal agency, Department of Health and Human Services, elaborates its core
responsibilities in a nutshell. The motto reads, Improving the health, safety and well being of America.
Fundamentally, the agency is mandated with the provision of essential health services that guarantees
all Americans better healthcare that is not only accessible but also meet all the necessary standards
(McGuire, 2011). The agency was established on April 11, 1953 under the jurisdiction of the federal
government of the United States. Its headquarters is located in the Hubert H. Humphrey Building,
located at 200 Independence Avenue, S.W.
Washington, D.C. 20201. As of 2015, the agency had more than 79,500 employees. The U.S.
Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) origin is traced back to the Federal Security
Agency (FSA), created in 1939. FSA had several federal programs under its umbrella to include
education, health and social security (McGuire, 2011). Under the Reorganization Plan No. 1 of 1953,
the FSA was disintegrated to form various cabinet level agencies, to include the Department of Health,

The Evolution Of Leadership And Organizational Impact
Leadership History: The Evolution of Leadership and Organizational Impact
Keywords: Leader, leadership, organizational impact, organizational performance
Introduction
The common denominator, according to Stone and Patterson (2005), shared by biblical patriots, Greek
heroes Egyptian rulers is leadership; regardless of its influence, their lessons and philosophies
continue to contribute to leadership today. This paper will present the definition of leadership that
provides a framework for exploring leadership theories in this paper, and the subsequent impact on
individual and organizational performance, while providing recommendations for future exploration
of global expansion.
Leadership Definition Leadership is comprised of three components: (1) a bi directional process
during which a transaction occurs between the leader and the follower; (2) influence, the affect the
leader has on followers; and (3) it occurs in groups of individuals focused on achieving a common
objective or task (Northouse, 2013; Lussier Achua, 2013). Therefore, a concise definition of
leadership according to Northouse is, a process whereby an individual influences a group of
individuals to achieve a common goal (Northouse, 2013, p. 5). The differentiation between leadership
and management is the former establishes direction, aligns people, provides motivation and inspiration
(Northouse, 2013). Influence, when coupled with power provides a moving force. While permeating

Description Of AAutomatic Transmission
A automatic transmission (additionally called auto apparatus shift, self moving transmission or AT) is
a sort of engine vehicle transmission that can naturally change gear proportions as the vehicle moves,
liberating the driver from needing to change gears physically. Like other transmission frameworks on
vehicles, it permits an inward ignition motor, most appropriate to keep running at a moderately high
rotational rate, to give a scope of rate and torque yields essential for vehicular travel.
The most prominent structure found in vehicles is the hydraulic automatic transmission. Comparable
however bigger gadgets are additionally utilized for overwhelming obligation business and
mechanical vehicles and gear. This framework utilizes a liquid coupling as a part of spot of a rubbing
grip, and fulfills apparatus changes by locking and opening an arrangement of planetary riggings.
These frameworks have a characterized arrangement of apparatus reaches, frequently with a stopping
pawl that bolts the yield shaft of the transmission to keep the vehicle from moving either forward or in
reverse. A few machines with restricted rate runs or altered motor paces, for example, a few forklifts
and yard cutters, just utilize a torque converter to give a variable adapting of the motor to the wheels.
Other than the conventional programmed transmissions, there are additionally different sorts of
robotized transmissions, for example, a ceaselessly variable transmission (CVT) and self loader

Tartarsals
At the bottom of the Missouri s streams lives the Lampsilis siliquoidea mussels where it lives out its
life cycle. How it lives it s brilliant life cycle is first by luring a smallmouth bass over to it by
copycatting the movement and the appearance of a Tartars fish tail which is actually the skin of the
mussels which has over time evolved. Once the bass notices the lure and strikes the lure the muscle
spews out a white cloud into the bass s mouth and gills which happen to be thousands of larvaes where
they will live off the bass for nutrients. Its also safer for them to transition from larvae into juvenile
mussels. After a couple of weeks the young mussels abandon the bass dropping leaving the basses

I never imagined they would be using a fish and other smallmouth basses to spread their younglings.
What surprised me the most about these different mussels was how much they have evolved into the
different ways they disrupted their youngs. For example the Higgins eye pearlymussel has flaps that
represent a minnows in their appearance and the mussels move this flap imitating the tail movement of
the minnow. Then the fishes will bite down on the flap making the mussels distribute their larvae into
their gills. Others will take a less freeloading approach and use their tongue like a foot moving up
riverbanks where they spread their larvae making this approach less about waiting for a host but will
not guarantee that most of the larvae will survive until youthhood. I think personally the best way for
these creatures to repopulate is to use the method that the fish snapper use which I think happens to be
the most riskiest too. As I explained before in the early paragraph the snapper will display its flesh and
snapping its mouth closed onto the head of the fish force feeding its larvae into the mouth of the fish.
Overall I thought that this was a very interesting article that brought attention to how mussels

The Importance and History of the Steam Engine Essay
The wonderful progress of the present century is, in a very great degree, due to the invention and
improvement of the steam engine, and to the ingenious application of its power to kinds of work that
formerly taxed the physical energies of the human race. ~Robert H. Thurston
The steam engine can easily be considered the single most important invention of the entire industrial
revolution. There is not one part of industry present in today s society that can be examined without
coming across some type of reference or dependence upon the steam engine. But, who deserves the
credit for this great invention? Some give the credit to James Watt while others claim that Thomas
Newcomen was the original inventor. However, the idea of the ... Show more content on

Thurston.
The idea using the power of steam to our advantage goes back nearly twenty one centuries. A learned
writer in ancient Alexandria, named Hero, wrote a manuscript describing various devices and ideas of
the time. Although it is not proven that Hero was the inventor of any of these devices, he is given
credit for the earliest mention of steam power. Hero describes a method to open the doors of a temple
with the action of a fire on the alter at the front of the temple. A series of pipes runs between the alter
and the temple doors. The force of the steam created by the fire on the alter is strong enough to open
the temple doors. The essential principle that Hero used was to change heat energy into mechanical
energy or work. Supposedly, Hero continued his work and ended up creating what is often called the
First Steam Engine. Hero s engine is featured on below on the right. The cauldron or bowl like portion
AB holds water. There is a steam tight cover place over top of the cauldron. Two pipes extend from
the lid and suspend a globe directly above the cauldron. The water is heated, causing steam to be
created and forced through the pipes. The globe then fills with steam. Pipes K and H are located on
opposite sides of the globe and allow the steam to escape when the pressure becomes uneven. The
escaping steam then causes the globe to spin on its axis.

Michael Patton s Utilization-Focus Evaluation
H. Stanley Judd once quoted, A good plan is like a road map: it shows the destination and usually the
best way to get there. Since evaluation is judge on the uses of its findings it is important to know
where to start and where to end. The goal is to help the readers understand how evaluation is judge,
how to utilize the findings and the lasting impact on those who were part of the evaluation.
Summary:
My essay looks at Part 1 of Utilization focus Evaluation , through the eyes of author Michael Patton,
who believed that Evaluation is done for and with specific intended primary users for specific,
intended uses (2009, p.36). It presumes that evaluations are judged by their utility and use. Evaluators
should carefully consider how everything affects the use. The term use is defined by how people apply

Patton supported his claim with adequate evidence throughout the reading. The author strongly
suggests that evaluation should never be done independently, but primary intended users should be
allowed to sit at the table to help make decisions that would influence the intended use. One example
was the welfare to work program exercise where internal evaluators met to discuss the finding of their
evaluation. It is clear that no primary intended users were identified and little thoughts if any were
given to how the evaluation results would be used. For Patton, the number one priority to good
evaluation starts with primary intended users who input can help guide the evaluation from the start to
the finish. In contrast, Brandon W. Youker, author of Goal Free Evaluation: A potential Model for the
Evaluation of Social Work Programs believed in a goal free evaluation, whereby evaluators should
make observations, and measure any outcomes intended or unintended without any knowledge, goals

on their own within weeks or months with basic home therapy. Following simple remedies like eating
soft foods, applying ice or moist heat, and avoiding extreme jaw movements may aid in easing
symptoms. According to the NIH, because more studies are needed on the safety and effectiveness of
most treatments for jaw joint and muscle disorders, experts strongly recommend using the most
conservative, reversible treatments possible. Although TMJ disorders have become persistent, most

imaging modality for viewing the TMJ and the disc is an MRI where a normal disc will appear the

Genre, Plot, And Theme Of This Play
1) Discuss the genre, plot, and theme of this play.
The genre is a musical comedy. The rock music of the eighties moves the play through the story that is
centered in the Bourbon Room bar in Los Angeles. Most of the characters in the play used to be in a
rock band, currently are in a rock band or are trying hard to get into a rock band. The girls who wanted
or currently want to make in movies are bar waitresses and strippers. Big business wants to close
down the strip and develop a new business district. The classic rock hits and the main love interest
moves the story toward a happy and energetic ending.
2) Did you enjoy the production? Why or why not?
I enjoy comedies and I love many of the songs that were in the play so I could not help but laugh and
sing along at times. The production was very good overall. I was uncomfortable with the strippers.
The very suggestive dances and constant presence of the outfits were not necessary for the overall
story. The females playing the strippers did a good job and did deliver in lines and lyrics. The actors
did a very convincing job. The vocals were strong and the live rock band gave the show a punch. The
small stage and limited seating at the Virginia Samford Theatre were strengths. The actors were close
and you could see every expression. The size of the theatre helps pull you into the play.

Socrates As A Hero
Throughout the world s history, there have been civilizations that have come and gone. These
civilizations are represented to the world today by leaders and their ideals of those times. One such
leader was a person of thought from the city state Athens in Greece. (7) This person was Socrates, the
quintessential philosopher, the seeker and conveyor of wisdom. (8) Paul Johnson states, Such a man is
well worth knowing about, and for 2,500 years the learned and intellectually enterprising in all
countries have sought to know him. (8) But what is really known about a man who lived thousands of
years ago and who left no written record of himself. The starting point to understand Socrates and his
thoughts are through the words of his pupils. (8 9) Socrates was a philosopher whose ideals changed
the world around him and have an effect the world today. Paul Johnson, the author of Socrates: A Man
for Our Times, argues that part of heroism is philosophy at its last resort. Whoever is going after the
excellence of the mind should have the courage, to practice philosophy to the point of sacrificing
everything, even one s life. Johnson argues that Socrates did just that. (194) Johnson goes on to say
that Socrates was a man and thinker, as a hugely real, living, and enjoyable human being. (14)
Through Socrates opinions, personality, and mostly his love for the people and the city of Athens
overall made him a striking person (34). Johnson goes on to show the reader the

Isis Are A Bunch Of Muslims Just Because
If you think ISIS are a bunch of Muslims just because they claim to be Muslims and have a load of
gibberish written on their flags then you are being fooled. And maybe you ll live in that misconception
forever. And I don t blame you. Anyone would think ISIS are Muslim by what you are shown and are
driven to see by the media. At first, even I thought for a moment that ISIS are Muslims. The fact that
they walk down the streets with their pride, holding flags with Allah printed on. And when they
deliver their speech on those pathetic leaked videos stating Allah commands them to do this. We
should give them a round of applause for the characters they play.
First, of all, let me start off by telling you some of the facts that you might be familiar with. A number
of journalist from over Syria have reported that more Muslims are being killed by these so called
Muslims . In countries like Syria and Iraq, not only Muslims are suffering, but also non religious
people. So why is it that they are killing their own people if they claim to be people of Allah?
According to a report released by the United Nations, approximately 9,347 civilians in Iraq in the first
eight months of 2014 were killed by this group of terrorists. Furthermore, as we all know about the
Paris attack and as the death of 130 people was confirmed according to CNN (Cable News Network)
with hundreds being injured, even then it was confirmed that far more Muslims were killed than any
other ethnicity group.

Ender s Game By Orson Scott Card
Rufus Mosley Intro to Business Professor: Weisberg Exam 2 1. Ender s Game by Orson Scott Card
was a tremendous book. Though it may not have been the most entertaining book out there, it
definitely had some good points in the storyline. The themes I noticed in the book were compassion
and tyranny, along with the role that children can play. The protagonist in the book is Ender Wiggins,
and the antagonist is Peter Wiggins. The personal meaning I took from this book is that it does not
matter your age on what you can achieve. Ender is just a young boy who leads and saves the world.
The book takes place in the future even though it was written in the 80 s. Ender is born into a family
of highly intelligent people. As a child he is hated by his brother, Peter, along with other schoolmates
and is protected by his sister, Valentine. He has to leave Valentine behind when he is taken away to
Battle School, which is located on a ship very far away from earth so he can assist in the fight against
the buggers. Ender shows off his extreme intelligence and is separated from the rest of the recruits by
Colonel Graff of the International Fleet. Ender then becomes friends with a recruit name Alai. This
aids Ender to make friends and fit in with people. Ender is noticed by the military commanders
because of his dominance in the mind game . He is promoted to the Salamander Army shortly after.
While in the Salamander Army, Ender becomes friends with the only girl, Petra Arkanian, but is

Essay on Compare and Contrast Two Leadership Styles
Leadership can be defined as the ability to lead a group of people successfully in an organization.
Hall, et al (2008) have mentioned that an effective leader has to be visionary, motivating and
responsible in order to successfully run a business organization. In business the two key leadership
styles, which are widely used in today s corporate world are autocratic leadership and democratic
leadership (Johnson, n.d.). Autocratic leadership may be explained as a leadership style where the
manager sets objectives, allocates tasks and insists on obedience (Hall, et al 2008 p.g 401).
Conversely, democratic leadership encourages participation in decision making (Hall, et al 2008 p.g
402). Whilst many people would consider autocratic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The leader must be able to explain ideas clearly to employees and understand any feedback they
receive (Hall, et al 2008 p.g 402). Though rate of production with a democratic style of leadership
might be slower than in an autocratic due to low supervision, it could be disputed that workers can
work more freely as there is less stress to perform.
A further aspect of leadership, which can also be believed to have a direct link with communication, is
decision making. Both leadership styles are similar in the way that ideas need to be stored before
making a business decision. In an autocratic work place decisions are made independently with little
or no input from the rest of the group (Riley, 2012 n.p.). However, in a democratic society employees
have greater involvement in decision making (Riley, 2012 n.p.). Both these types of leadership have
their benefits and disadvantages with respect to decision making. In his research on different types of
leadership, Joseph, (n.d.) stated that autocratic leadership style could be effective in a business
environment as decisions can be made quickly without consulting with workers. According to Cherry,
(n.d.) this type of leadership would be advantageous in situations such as the military where decisions
need to be taken quickly. Though quick decision making can be beneficial, it could be argued that it
can lead to a demotivated workforce. Employees motivation decreases

Dialectic Of Enlightenment, Horkheimer And Adorno
In the first part of Dialectic of Enlightenment, Horkheimer and Adorno mainly discuss the
enlightenment. At first they wrote about how the enlightenment was viewed as a positive thing. After
they state how enlightenment was viewed in the past, they contrast that view by asserting that
enlightenment is the disenchantment of the world. They also say that the enlightenment wanted to
dismiss the myths and get rid of fantasy with knowledge. Horkheimer and Adorno also asserted that
enlightenment always reverted back to myth. They also argued that the enlightenment demythologized
the natural world with knowledge. In the text of Dialectic of Enlightenment, the authors also talk
about how myth and enlightenment share the fact that mankind always seeks domination over nature.
Horkheimer and Adorno both are critical of the enlightenment and they also seek to redeem it. They
also seek to explain that enlightenment will always revert back to myth. In the first chapter titled The
Concept of Enlightenment, Horkheimer and Adorno define enlightenment by stating Enlightenment,
understood in the widest since as the advance of thought, has always been aimed at liberating human
beings from fear and installing them as masters. Yet the wholly enlightened earth is radiant with
triumphant calamity. Enlightenment s program was the disenchantment of the world. It wanted to
dispel myths, to overthrow fantasy with knowledge Horkheimer and Adorno first start defining
enlightenment as how it was

What Is The Deceitful In The Return Of Martin Guerre
Was Bertrande being deceitful or deceived?
The Return of Martin Guerre was written by Natalie Zemon Davis in 1983. The movie was released in
1982, but Davis thought that there was more to the story so she decided to write a book about it. In
Davis s book at a very young age Martin Guerre marries Bertrande de Rols, they go through many
hardships and eventually Martin disappears. After a few years a man returns and says his name is
Martin Guerre, everyone is pleased by his return. Later, a dispute over land occurs and then people
start to question if this man is the real Martin Guerre or not. The case goes to court. During the trial,
twelve years after Martin vanished, he returns and this time there is no denying who he is. However,
there is one question that still remains, did Martin s wife, Bertrande know about the fake Martin or
was she too in the dark? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then again, she still wanted to be married to him. However, if Bertrande knew he was an imposter and
continued to live with him as if they were married, then she would be breaking an immoral law that
was against the Catholic Church. This is where the Protestant Church is introduced. The Protestant
Church believes that divorce is okay so if Bertrande converts to Protestantism her actions will be
justified and she will no longer be guilty of committing the immoral law. On the other hand, if
Bertrande did not know about Martin then she would be innocent in the matter. This theory does seem
to be proven true but with a few incidents of Davis making scholarly guesses throughout the book it is
likely that the Protestantism is just Davis trying to justify her presumptions that Bertrande did in fact
know Martin was a

No doubt, John Lennon wrote this song under the influence of the hippie subculture. This song helped
bring awareness to the public and teenagers alike, about the values of the Hippies. Another influential
song of the Hippie era is Fortunate Son by the group Creedence Clearwater Revival. This song is a
protest against the United States involvement in the Vietnam war, as the Hippies saw that the US
Army s involvement in the war as a mistake. Fortunate Son addresses the issue of the discriminating
way the government used forced conscription to recruit new soldiers as they forced the poor
population to fight much more often than people who held more political power. As much as fifty five
percent of the fighting force belonged in the working class. The message this song sends, closely
associates with the Hippie subculture view of the vietnam war. This song, also being very popular to
the teenage population, inspired teenagers to rebel against the government and societal norm, causing
teenagers to become more aware of the Hippie subculture (since rebelling against societal norms was
one of their underlying ethics.) One more artist who contributed to the change of impression in
teenagers is Buffalo Springfield. For what it s worth is another protest song written in 1966. Although

Introduction
This term paper is situated in an area of specific health related and environmental concern: the human
dimensions of global change. For about a decade now there has been growing scientific interest in the
global environmental changes resulting from anthropogenic activity. However most of this research
has focused on the scientific bases of environmental transformations with little attention to how
human social responses are linked to global change. As a result, scientists and researchers alike are
beginning to ask questions about the symbiotic relationship between human well being and physical

In general, the incidence of non melanoma and malignant melanoma skin cancer has increased
significantly over the past few decades, particularly in the United States, Canada, Australia, the United
Kingdom, and Scandinavian countries. This large outbreak has intrigued researchers into examining
the relationship of the growing risk of skin cancer to increases in ground level UV B radiation due to
ozone depletion.
According to the latest Scientific Assessment of Ozone Depletion issued by the United Nations and
the US Government, human influenced ozone depletion may peak around 1998
and will persist well into the 21st century. For the US and other mid latitude countries of the Northern
Hemisphere, ozone losses during summer and fall months may peak at 6 7% relative to ozone
concentrations in the 1960s. Winter/spring depletion could peak at nearly twice those levels.
Vienna Convention and Skin Cancer Incidence
The 1985 Vienna Convention built a baseline for international restrictions on the production of ozone
depleting substances. To evaluate the consequences of these restrictions the convention and its
associates projected skin cancer incidence under three scenarios: 1) no restrictions (the Business as
Usual curve); (2) reduced production of five ozone depleting chemicals by 50 percent by 1999 (under

isolate neutrophils from whole blood using commercially available separation media that is a mixture
of sodium metrizoate and Dextran 500. The procedure consists of layering whole blood over the
density gradient medium, centrifugation, separation of neutrophil layer, and lysis of residual
erythrocytes. Cells are then washed, counted, and resuspended in buffer to desired concentration.
When performed correctly, this method has been shown to yield samples of 95% neutrophils with 95%

Supplier power: Apple has around 156 suppliers (Cult of Mac, 2012). The threat of suppliers is not so
severe. There are many organizations operating in the consumer electronics industry, and they tend to
be more elastic with respect to the suppliers power (Apple Inc, 2104). For example; if a supplier
increases its prices, the organisation looks for a substitute as the firm diverts choice. Suppliers have
some sort of power as they provide Apple with highly differentiated materials for the production
process. However, Apple does acquire manufacturing costs, component costs and labour costs in order
to innovate products to supply back to the customers (Apple Inc, 2012). Furthermore, Apple s brand
power, mode of competition and purchasing volumes acquire intermediate goods and components
from suppliers within the organisation as well as outside (Heracleous, 2013 p.97). Apple practises
taper integration where they own retail outlets but also affiliate with other retailers (Apple Inc, 2012).
Buyer power: A threat of buyers is not considered as a threat to Apple. Firstly, Apple has millions of
buyers, inclusive of large and small corporations. Secondly, Apple s products are unique and
differentiated showing the buyer power is low, and hence reduces price sensitivity (Apple Inc, 2014).
Thirdly, price is not the most important factor in their buying decisions it

Alternative Energy Sources
Alternative Energy Sources
In United States around half of million deaths each year are attributed to air pollution. It is estimated
that air pollution each day kills three people in the city of Hong Kong. Air pollution also contributes to
soil and water pollution. More than 15,000 people in the world die each day because of water
pollution (pollutionfacts.com). With these statistics, it is no wonder people are coming up with
alternative energy sources. From energy to gasoline, there are many different ways to reduce these
statistics. Some alternatives to energy sources are solar and wind power, alternative vehicle fuels and
hybrid cars. Photovoltaic solar electricity, or more commonly known as solar power, is an alternative
energy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is considerable interest in electric and hybrid cars because of environmental and climate change
concerns, tougher fuel efficiency standards, and increasing dependence on imported oil (Deal). Hybrid
and electric cars are a way to reduce our carbon footprint. Many vehicle manufacturers are beginning
to jump into the hybrid car craze. Some of the most popular hybrid cars are the Toyota Prius, Honda
Insight and Ford Fusion. There is also the electric car that relies solely on electricity to get from point
A to point B. the downside to these cars however is that they only get about 100 miles before needing
to be recharged. Hybrids are different because they rely on a mixture of two sources, electricity and
gasoline. Hybrids can get further than electric cars because of this reason. Electric and hybrid cars
have a special braking system called regenerative braking. Regenerative braking causes the car to
recharge the battery whenever the car is coasting or completely stopped. this helps maintain the car s
battery life. Charging these batteries can take a while, some even take more than eight hours!
While the popularity of hybrids and electric vehicles are on the rise, many people still drive a good old
fashioned gasoline car. Whereas driving a normal car will not be as environmentally friendly as the
hybrid of electrics,

Internsment And Japanese Internment Camps
10/17
Claim For years, people have argued over whether Japanese Internment camps( interment means
putting a person in prison or other kind of detention, generally in wartime. During World War II, the
American government put Japanese Americans in internment camps, fearing they might be loyal to
Japan.) are an Americanized version of concentration camps. Some say that the Japanese Internment
camps were just as brutal and inhumane as concentration camps in Nazi Germany. Others will tell you
they were completely different, and I argue the same. The concentration camps and Japanese
Internment camps are completely different.
Let s start by comparing a simple aspect of daily life in concentration camps and internment camps;

Reason 2 Another reason that the concentration camps and Japanese Internment camps are completely
different is because the motive behind creating the camps was incompareable. Japanese internment
camps were created because the United States was scared of connections Japanese Americans might
have to the enemy, and the feared for the safety of the country. On the contrary, concentration camps
were created out because of Hitler s pure hatred for the jews. When Hell asked Hitler what he intended
doing if he ever had full freedom of action against the Jews, his response was: If I am ever really in
power, the destruction of the Jews will be my first and most important job. As soon as I have power, I
shall have gallows after gallows erected, for example, in Munich on the Marienplatz as many of them
as traffic allows. Then the Jews will be hanged one after another, and they will stay hanging until they
stink. They will stay hanging as long as hygienically possible. As soon as they are untied, then the
next group will follow and that will continue until the last Jew in Munich is exterminated. Exactly the
same procedure will be followed in other cities until Germany is cleansed of the last Jew! (quoted in

Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infection
Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infection (CAUTI) is defined as the occurrence of a urinary tract
infection (UTI) in patients with a urinary catheter in the past 48 hours. Published guidelines by the
Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) further defines CAUTI by the presence of significant
bacteriuria of ≥ 103 CFU/ml found in the urinalysis and signs and symptoms of a UTI without the
presence of another cause for these findings. Signs and symptoms of CAUTI could include: altered
mental status, fever, chills, flank pain, costovertebral angle tenderness, and hematuria. If the catheter
has been removed in the past 48 hours the symptoms could also include urgency and frequency (Fakih
et al., 2016).
A2. Significance of the problem
The most common health care associated infection (HAI) is CAUTI. Forty percent of all hospital
acquired infections are UTIs and 80% of these are directly linked to having an indwelling urinary
catheter in place (Underwood, 2015). Urinary catheters are required in up to 25% of hospitalized
patients and bacteriuria results in about 25% of patients with a catheter for greater than 5 days and this
number increases by 1 to 5% for each day the catheter is in place after that. The harmful consequences
of CAUTI include increased length of stay, higher health care cost, and increased mortality. CAUTI is
known to cost health care in the U.S. $400 $500 million annually (Leuck et al., 2015).

Jackie Robinson Research Papers
4. Jackie Robinson was born on January 31, 1919, in rural Cairo, Georgia. He was the youngest of five
children, and raised by a single mother. Growing up in Pasadena, California, Jackie was relatively
poor. Jackie attended John Muir High School and Pasadena Junior High, where he excelled in four
sports: football, basketball, track, and baseball. Jackie continued his schooling at UCLA and in 1941,
he was forced to leave due to financial hardship. Jackie then moved to Honolulu, Hawaii, where he
played semi professional football for the Bears. Jackie s season was cut short when the United States
entered into World War II, and he served as a second lieutenant in the army until 1944. In 1944, Jackie
refused to give up his seat and move to the back of a segregated bus. As a result, Jackie was arrested
and court martialed. Fortunately, Jackie was acquitted of the charges and received an honorable
discharge after public light was shed on the injustice. Jackie s courage and moral objection to
segregation were precursors to the impact Jackie would have in MLB.
One person important to Jackie Robinson was Reverend Karl Downs. Karl Everitt Downs was the 25
year old pastor at Scott Methodist Church where Jackie s mother worshipped. Downs influence on

  • 3. Anne Bradstreet s Poem, My Dear And Loving Husband Throughout history women have always taken second chair next to men. Women were thought to be the weaker, less intellectual, and less valuable sex. Many women accepted their position in life, and never bothered to strive for more, however, Anne Bradstreet did. She knew she could be much more than the simple house wife she was meant be; she valued herself to be more, and took to poetry as a means of communicating her views on life; not knowing one day she would be the famous female American poet she is today. Even with eight children, Anne Bradstreet found time to express her interests and views by writing in her poetry journal. Out of all her many poems, To My Dear and Loving Husband stuck out as, one with a simple message, with hidden meanings throughout. Though Bradstreet is known as one who made large bounds for her fellow women, the fact that she relies on her husband for a sense of self is present in the second line of the poem. Bradstreet using the word man, not the corresponding term husband ; this grants him a level of independence from the relationship that she does not give herself (Kelly). The fact that there seems to be unevenness in the marriage is indicative of the puritan culture. Puritan women are vulnerable and servers to their husbands, not partners as they are thought of today. Even with her role as wife Bradstreet is able to challenge many of the stereotypes that women faced during the late 1600 s. If it was not for the use of poetry, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Essay about Impact of Sea Otters on Community Ecology Introduction Sea otters (Enhydra lutris) are marine mammals capable of spending their entire lives in water. Being carnivorous in nature, they feed on sea urchins, crabs, fishes, mussels and clams. They are referred to as keystone species due to their profound impact on marine ecology. The interaction between sea otters, sea urchins and kelp forests has been studied as a model for the impact of predator prey interactions on community ecology. Sea otters are keystone predators, whose presence has a far reaching influence on the marine food web by affecting the populations of sea urchins, which indirectly affects the populations of kelp ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, sea otters play an indirect, yet vital role in the preservation of kelp forests. This in turn protects kelp forests and other macroalgae, which would have otherwise been depleted due to grazing by sea urchins. Where sea otters abound so do lush kelp forests, and where sea otters are absent the habitat is typically deforested by hyperabundant sea urchins (Soulé et al 1240). The significance of this interaction can be wholly surmised only when the importance of kelp forests is understood. Kelp forests are a source of food and habitat for dozens of other coastal species (Soulé et al 1240). Innumerable coastal marine organisms thrive on kelp forests, enhancing biodiversity of the region. Therefore, to maintain the diversity and richness of coastal marine ecology, sea otters should be preserved, who indirectly lead to the preservation of kelps. Impact of sea otters on community ecology The presence or absence of sea otters influences marine ecology at the community level. Studies have shown that kelp forests enhance the underwater environment, providing a suitable habitat for fishes. The declining kelp beds in California in the mid 1900 s propelled the Kelp Habitat Improvement Project, whereby attempts were made to eliminate sea urchins that are ... Sophocles The Plight Of Oedipus s Reign The Plight of Oedipus s Reign In the famous playwright, Sophocles Oedipus the King , a Greek tragedy which explores the idea of destiny, Oedipus is a tragic hero, who, in the exploration of his troubled past, discovers the truth of actions that render him guilty of the heinous crimes of murder, and incest. Although Oedipus was not privy to the truth behind his actions, it does not make these crimes any less unlawful, or unethical, proving that Oedipus is guilty of the murder of his father, Laius, and of having an incestuous relationship with his mother, Jocasta. That s what they said about rock n roll. There have been common misconceptions about video games being a bad influence on children due to their violent content they can have and leading children to be more violent. Miyamoto disagree with this misconception using rock n roll as an example. He stated just like how rock n roll was considered bad in the past generation.therefore the current generation of children and adults will not be affected by video games in a detrimental way. However, these misconceptions are debunked by news sources such as PBS. Henry Jenkins, an MIT Professor, wrote a list of reasons on video games myths on the PBS website. He believes the link between youth violence and video games are merely a coincidence, because in the modern age, more and more of today s youth are connected to social media and technology, and it really depends on the person s mental stability. There has been research on how the more aggressive people enjoy playing more aggressive games like the aforementioned game, Doom, and that there are no conclusions that link video games to change normal people to killers. Incidentally, these misconceptions of youth violences linked to video games are still commonly believed today by a small group of people around the word despite the growing popularity of video games in modern day culture. All things considered, video games can be used as an educational tool in providing a lesson in educational facilities.I will go over how video games can be used in education and also how it can be applied to academic core subjects such as history and also in non academic subject like physical ... • 7. Essay on Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Case Study Normal Anatomy and Physiology of Motor Function The two components of the central nervous system (CNS) are the brain and the spinal cord. Communication between the brain and the spinal cord happens through motor neurons, which are nerve cells that enable motor movement. Each motor neuron is made up of a cell body, which holds all the cell components, dendrites which send information it receives to the cell body, and an axon which sends nerve impulses to the muscle (Porth Matfin, 2009). As electrical impulses are sent through the motor neuron, it stimulates the muscle fibers in the body to move. This is the process in which motor function happens. Therefore, the basic abilities to breathe, speak, swallow, walk and button a shirt are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The manifestations of ALS are caused by the location of motor neuron death. When upper motor neurons die, the symptoms include problems controlling fine movements, spasms, dysphagia, dysphonia and dysarthria (Porth Matfin, 2009). Manifestations of lower motor neuron destruction include fasciculations, weakness, muscle atrophy, and hyporeflexia (Porth Matfin, 2009, p. 1284). Patients with early signs of ALS usually complain of feeling weak on one side, which is due to the slowing of electrical impulses to that group of muscles (Ignatavicius Workman, 2010). Since the impulses are slowed, they are not receiving adequate electrical stimulation to move and the person feels weak. As the disease progresses, all the motor neurons die and are not regenerated so, the patient is left paralyzed, losing the ability to speak, swallow and breathe (Ignatavicius Workman, 2010). A distinctive characteristic of ALS is that although the motor neurons die, the brain, cognitive functions and sensory neurons stay intact (Porth Matfin, 2009). This makes the disease especially devastating because patients become trapped inside their dying body, with a fully alert mind, but are unable to move. It is not known what causes the exact death of the motor neurons in the body, but five percent to 10% of cases are familial; the others are believed to be sporadic (Porth Matfin, 2009, p. ... Apart from Fireflies, glowworms and Jack O lantern mushrooms, bacteria, Fungi, Algae and 90% of marine life exhibit this phenomenon. Essay on Never Giving Up in Steinbeck s The Moon is Down Never Giving Up in Steinbeck s The Moon is Down Machine Gun fire blasts over your head while your hiding in your home, the only protection available. A slight whistle begins in the distance but it soon becomes closer and closer, its sound becomes louder and more intense with every inch of ground that it covers. Then as soon as it started the whistle becomes an explosion killing half of your friends and destroying any thing in its path. The end is near as your town is conquered and you think there is nobody left to fight. But is there? He then goes on to say, but they resisted. This comes from a conversation between the Mayor of the town and the Colonel Lanser shortly after the German army had occupied the town. The two go on to have a conversation about what is going to happen to the people of the town and why the Germans have taken this particular town. This starts the main problem of the story and is the first adversity that the town must overcome. Later on in the story, the German army has began to ration the town s food so the people work. This is a major problem because this gives the army complete control over the town and if the town does not comply with the wishes of Colonel Lanser then they can simply take the food away. On page 78, Molly a normal working woman from the town is confronted by Lieutenant Tonder who is one of the commanders of the army, Molly glanced quickly at the door. Online subscription based music services (like Spotify) compare lists of songs users have played using if statements and for loops to find recommended songs for us. If a certain percentage of songs are the same in the list of songs two users have played, the system will recommend songs to the first user from the list of the other one. Computer and mobile games use all programming concepts we have covered in this course: they store lots of data for example boolean variables to check if objectives have been completed and integers or floats to keep track of the user s score, they use loops and functions for all kinds of things like running the game while the player s health is above 0 or a function to make the player character move when a key is pressed. Perhaps the most obvious programming concept used in games is the if statement, to check if an obstacle is hit (by checking if the distance between the moving object and the obstacle is smaller than a certain value) or to make enemies stop moving if their health is zero. Delivery companies use lists (databases) to store tracking numbers and if statements to check if a number entered into their online tracking system matches any in the list of these numbers. If it does, they display the estimated delivery date and time (which are stored in variables) and otherwise display an error message informing the user that the number they entered is incorrect. The Evolution Of Leadership And Organizational Impact Leadership History: The Evolution of Leadership and Organizational Impact Keywords: Leader, leadership, organizational impact, organizational performance Introduction The common denominator, according to Stone and Patterson (2005), shared by biblical patriots, Greek heroes Egyptian rulers is leadership; regardless of its influence, their lessons and philosophies continue to contribute to leadership today. This paper will present the definition of leadership that provides a framework for exploring leadership theories in this paper, and the subsequent impact on individual and organizational performance, while providing recommendations for future exploration of global expansion. Leadership Definition Leadership is comprised of three components: (1) a bi directional process during which a transaction occurs between the leader and the follower; (2) influence, the affect the leader has on followers; and (3) it occurs in groups of individuals focused on achieving a common objective or task (Northouse, 2013; Lussier Achua, 2013). Therefore, a concise definition of leadership according to Northouse is, a process whereby an individual influences a group of individuals to achieve a common goal (Northouse, 2013, p. 5). Then the fishes will bite down on the flap making the mussels distribute their larvae into their gills. There is not one part of industry present in today s society that can be examined without coming across some type of reference or dependence upon the steam engine. A learned writer in ancient Alexandria, named Hero, wrote a manuscript describing various devices and ideas of the time. Although it is not proven that Hero was the inventor of any of these devices, he is given credit for the earliest mention of steam power. Hero describes a method to open the doors of a temple with the action of a fire on the alter at the front of the temple. A series of pipes runs between the alter and the temple doors. The force of the steam created by the fire on the alter is strong enough to open the temple doors. The essential principle that Hero used was to change heat energy into mechanical energy or work. Supposedly, Hero continued his work and ended up creating what is often called the First Steam Engine. Hero s engine is featured on below on the right. The cauldron or bowl like portion AB holds water. There is a steam tight cover place over top of the cauldron. Two pipes extend from the lid and suspend a globe directly above the cauldron. The water is heated, causing steam to be created and forced through the pipes. The globe then fills with steam. Pipes K and H are located on opposite sides of the globe and allow the steam to escape when the pressure becomes uneven. The escaping steam then causes the globe to spin on its axis. The power ... One example was the welfare to work program exercise where internal evaluators met to discuss the finding of their evaluation. It is clear that no primary intended users were identified and little thoughts if any were given to how the evaluation results would be used. For Patton, the number one priority to good evaluation starts with primary intended users who input can help guide the evaluation from the start to the finish. In contrast, Brandon W. In business the two key leadership styles, which are widely used in today s corporate world are autocratic leadership and democratic leadership (Johnson, n.d.). Autocratic leadership may be explained as a leadership style where the manager sets objectives, allocates tasks and insists on obedience (Hall, et al 2008 p.g 401). A further aspect of leadership, which can also be believed to have a direct link with communication, is decision making. Both leadership styles are similar in the way that ideas need to be stored before making a business decision. In an autocratic work place decisions are made independently with little or no input from the rest of the group (Riley, 2012 n.p.). However, in a democratic society employees have greater involvement in decision making (Riley, 2012 n.p.). Both these types of leadership have their benefits and disadvantages with respect to decision making. • 29. Dialectic Of Enlightenment, Horkheimer And Adorno In the first part of Dialectic of Enlightenment, Horkheimer and Adorno mainly discuss the enlightenment. At first they wrote about how the enlightenment was viewed as a positive thing. After they state how enlightenment was viewed in the past, they contrast that view by asserting that enlightenment is the disenchantment of the world. They also say that the enlightenment wanted to dismiss the myths and get rid of fantasy with knowledge. Horkheimer and Adorno also asserted that enlightenment always reverted back to myth. They also argued that the enlightenment demythologized the natural world with knowledge. In the text of Dialectic of Enlightenment, the authors also talk about how myth and enlightenment share the fact that mankind always seeks domination over nature. Horkheimer and Adorno both are critical of the enlightenment and they also seek to redeem it. They also seek to explain that enlightenment will always revert back to myth. In the first chapter titled The Concept of Enlightenment, Horkheimer and Adorno define enlightenment by stating Enlightenment, understood in the widest since as the advance of thought, has always been aimed at liberating human beings from fear and installing them as masters. Yet the wholly enlightened earth is radiant with triumphant calamity. Enlightenment s program was the disenchantment of the world. The movie was released in 1982, but Davis thought that there was more to the story so she decided to write a book about it. In Davis s book at a very young age Martin Guerre marries Bertrande de Rols, they go through many hardships and eventually Martin disappears. After a few years a man returns and says his name is Martin Guerre, everyone is pleased by his return. Later, a dispute over land occurs and then people start to question if this man is the real Martin Guerre or not. The case goes to court. During the trial, twelve years after Martin vanished, he returns and this time there is no denying who he is. Then again, she still wanted to be married to him. However, if Bertrande knew he was an imposter and continued to live with him as if they were married, then she would be breaking an immoral law that was against the Catholic Church. This is where the Protestant Church is introduced. The Protestant Church believes that divorce is okay so if Bertrande converts to Protestantism her actions will be justified and she will no longer be guilty of committing the immoral law. On the other hand, if Bertrande did not know about Martin then she would be innocent in the matter. This theory does seem to be proven true but with a few incidents of Davis making scholarly guesses throughout the book it is likely that the Protestantism is just Davis trying to justify her presumptions that Bertrande did in fact know Martin was a ... No doubt, John Lennon wrote this song under the influence of the hippie subculture. This song helped bring awareness to the public and teenagers alike, about the values of the Hippies. Another influential song of the Hippie era is Fortunate Son by the group Creedence Clearwater Revival. This song is a protest against the United States involvement in the Vietnam war, as the Hippies saw that the US Army s involvement in the war as a mistake. Fortunate Son addresses the issue of the discriminating way the government used forced conscription to recruit new soldiers as they forced the poor population to fight much more often than people who held more political power. As much as fifty five percent of the fighting force belonged in the working class. The message this song sends, closely associates with the Hippie subculture view of the vietnam war. This song, also being very popular to the teenage population, inspired teenagers to rebel against the government and societal norm, causing teenagers to become more aware of the Hippie subculture (since rebelling against societal norms was one of their underlying ethics.) One more artist who contributed to the change of impression in teenagers is Buffalo Springfield. For what it s worth is another protest song written in 1966. Introduction This term paper is situated in an area of specific health related and environmental concern: the human dimensions of global change. For about a decade now there has been growing scientific interest in the global environmental changes resulting from anthropogenic activity. However most of this research has focused on the scientific bases of environmental transformations with little attention to how human social responses are linked to global change. As a result, scientists and researchers alike are beginning to ask questions about the symbiotic relationship between human well being and physical change. In general, the incidence of non melanoma and malignant melanoma skin cancer has increased significantly over the past few decades, particularly in the United States, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, and Scandinavian countries. This large outbreak has intrigued researchers into examining the relationship of the growing risk of skin cancer to increases in ground level UV B radiation due to ozone depletion. According to the latest Scientific Assessment of Ozone Depletion issued by the United Nations and the US Government, human influenced ozone depletion may peak around 1998 and will persist well into the 21st century. For the US and other mid latitude countries of the Northern Hemisphere, ozone losses during summer and fall months may peak at 6 7% relative to ozone concentrations in the 1960s. Winter/spring depletion could peak at nearly twice those levels. Vienna Convention and Skin Cancer Incidence The 1985 Vienna Convention built a baseline for international restrictions on the production of ozone depleting substances. To evaluate the consequences of these restrictions the convention and its associates projected skin cancer incidence under three scenarios: 1) no restrictions (the Business as Usual curve); (2) reduced production of five ozone depleting chemicals by 50 percent by 1999 (under the Montreal ... The procedure consists of layering whole blood over the density gradient medium, centrifugation, separation of neutrophil layer, and lysis of residual erythrocytes. There are many organizations operating in the consumer electronics industry, and they tend to be more elastic with respect to the suppliers power (Apple Inc, 2104). For example; if a supplier increases its prices, the organisation looks for a substitute as the firm diverts choice. Suppliers have some sort of power as they provide Apple with highly differentiated materials for the production process. However, Apple does acquire manufacturing costs, component costs and labour costs in order to innovate products to supply back to the customers (Apple Inc, 2012). Furthermore, Apple s brand power, mode of competition and purchasing volumes acquire intermediate goods and components from suppliers within the organisation as well as outside (Heracleous, 2013 p.97). Apple practises taper integration where they own retail outlets but also affiliate with other retailers (Apple Inc, 2012). Buyer power: A threat of buyers is not considered as a threat to Apple. Published guidelines by the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) further defines CAUTI by the presence of significant bacteriuria of ≥ 103 CFU/ml found in the urinalysis and signs and symptoms of a UTI without the presence of another cause for these findings. Signs and symptoms of CAUTI could include: altered mental status, fever, chills, flank pain, costovertebral angle tenderness, and hematuria. If the catheter has been removed in the past 48 hours the symptoms could also include urgency and frequency (Fakih et al., 2016). A2.
