The Four Core Beliefs Of Derek Jeter
When you start your education at Sport and Medical Sciences Academy(SMSA) you are taught and
are expected to follow the four core beliefs that shape our school and its environment. The four core
beliefs are discipline, respect, dedication, and responsibility or how most students know it as D.R.D.R.
However, SMSA students are not the only ones that abide by these rules and beliefs. A well known
athlete that is a great example of this is the New York Yankees shortstop, Derek Jeter. According to
Jeter, his success did not come overnight. His biography displays all the hard work he went through to
become the best and he started just at the age of eight with a goal of becoming a shortstop for the New
York Yankees. Jeter inspires others to set their goals above and beyond, and if you work hard or
believe in yourself that you can achieve anything you want.
Discipline is just one of the four core beliefs and it means behavior in accord with rules of conduct,
(Dictionary.com). Throughout his career Jeter made his own rules of do s and don ts and an example
is, I always tell people that I don t like to boast and I don t like people who brag, but I break my own
rules when it comes to my parents, (Curry 55). Instead of bragging like most players would after a
win, Jeter made his own rule that he could not brag and he followed that rule, unless it comes to his
parents of course. Jeter also followed another rule, he says, I ve always felt that whether you re a
professional athlete or a bus driver, it s better to be humble, (Curry 130). Jeter probably follows most
of the rules he makes for himself every day. It keeps his behavior and the way he acts around others in
check, by now these rules are more of a habit/lifestyle instead of a burden.
Respect is the second core belief and its definition is esteem for or a sense of the worth or excellence
of a person, a personal quality or ability, or something considered as a manifestation of a personal
quality or ability, (Dictionary.com). Derek had so much respect for his coaches, teammates, and
especially his parents because when he felt like quitting they were there to make sure he achieved his
goal and dream. At a young age, Jeter and his sister Sharlee were treated

Biography of Franklin Delano Roosevelt Essay
Biography of Franklin Delano Roosevelt
Franklin Delano Roosevelt, (1882 1945), 32nd of the United States. Roosevelt became president in
March 1933 at the depth of the Great Depression, was reelected for an unprecedented three more
terms, and died in office in April 1945, less than a month before the surrender of Germany in World
War II. Despite an attack of poliomyelitis, which paralyzed his legs in 1921, he was a charismatic
optimist whose confidence helped sustain the American people during the strains of economic crisis
and world war.
He was one of America s most controversial leaders. Conservatives claimed that he undermined states
rights and individual liberty. Though Roosevelt labored hard to end the Depression, he had limited ...

Her father, one of James business associates, had made and lost fortunes in the China trade before
settling with his wife and 11 children on the west bank of the Hudson. Sara had sailed to China as a
girl, attended school abroad, and moved in high social circles in London and Paris. Though only half
her husband s age of 52 at the time of her marriage in 1880, she settled in happily at Hyde Park. Their
marriage was serene until broken by James death in 1900.
His record at Harvard, which he attended between 1900 and 1904, was only slightly more impressive.
Thanks to his excellent preparation at Groton, he was able to complete his course of study for his B.A.
in 1903, in only three years. During his fourth year he served as editor of the Crimson, the college
newspaper. However, he was not accepted for Porcellian, Harvard s most prestigious social club, and
he did not receive much stimulation in the classroom. As at Groton, his grades were mediocre, and he
showed no excitement about his studies.
At this point politics gave him a sense of purpose. The Democratic organization in Dutchess county,
the area around Hyde Park, needed a candidate for the New York state Senate in 1910. Party leaders
recognized that although Roosevelt had no political experience he had assets as a candidate: the
wealth to finance a campaign, and the best known political name in the United States. Roosevelt
worked as never before during the campaign.

Persons and Others Essay examples
CAITLYN DALY
The essay Persons and Others written by Lorraine Code reviews and responds to specific issues and
details in the novel As We Are Now by May Sarton. As We Are Now is a novel about the struggles the
elderly face when that time comes. The story is told from Miss Caro Spencer s point of view,
beginning when she is brought and left at a mediocre nursing home for the elderly. She tells about
hardships of growing old from the mental, emotional and physical troubles. Caro is forced to stay at
Twin Elms nursing home by her older brother John and his much younger wife Ginny, this is her only
family and she feels some what betrayed by them. Her caretakers at Twin Elm are awful and treat her
horribly as she explains through out the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The women refer to the people in their care as nothing more than poor things , as if they aren t people
but merely objects; and Code recognizes that by objectifying these old people the caretakers saying
that they are worth nothing. As stated by Code on page 4 Treating a person as little more than an
object, in its cognitive dimension, implies acknowledging no significant differences between such a
person and an ordinary, everyday object , what I get from this is that the women who run the nursing
home and those who objectify any person are completely ignorant. Before you can judge and
objectify, though you really should never objectify people, you need to truly know a person and
understand who they are and where they came from; a treatment that Caro s caretakers never gave her
or any other guest in their nursing home. Code explains through Kantian s formulation that one must
always treat with humanity and that there are different levels of knowing other people. It takes time to
truly know some one and if we just give time to understand people we could treat them much better
and more appropriately. These two women who run Twin Elms have put themselves in this position
and portray themselves as responsible women who can be trusted with old, senile, and overall
vulnerable people. Code believes the best way to care for these type of old people is sympathetically
and compassionately; as we would want to be treated

Children s Responsibilities For Children
Every adult who has children knows it is a challenging experience and extremely rewarding,
especially when the children grow to be responsible, independent, caring, productive adults and
parents in their own right. After helping raise my own children, being a professional martial arts
instructor since 1979, teaching thousands of children and helping other parents raise their children (so
they tell me), here are 10 keys I feel are important to raising children successfully.
1. Leadership
Kids need a leader, someone who is strong, responsible, caring and committed to their highest and
best good. What children do not need is to be the parent to their parents. Children do not need to be
buddies, pals or best friends with their parents until they, the children, are adults. Children are
children. They need leaders to lead, guide and direct them through their early life. Those leaders are
the parents who need to take a front row in raising their kids. For children to be successful in life, they
need a strong parental foundation, one that puts them before their parent s careers, activities,
relationships and jobs. Children should never be thought of as appendages to a parent s life. Until the
children are of legal age, the children are the parent s life. When this commitment is given to children,
it is a boon to their early development and later success as responsible and independent adults.
2. Structure
Children need structure. They need foundational guidelines. They need to

The Protocol Of A Continuous Concrete Action
One of the significant features in respect to the guidelines existed in the Protocol is evident in the
manner in which they put this into process the subsidiarity principle, and also further softening the

guidelines that are to be evaluated and checked for the determination of whether steps should be taken
by the Community in the field of so called mutual capabilities and expertise: primarily whether an
issue has transnational aspects that cannot be sustainably regulated by Member State action; then,
whether the lack of community action or the Member State action would contradict with the Treaty
needs and then thirdly whether action at Community level would result in apt benefits of scale or
effect[footnoteRef:4]. However, these guidelines though tend to offer bit more than the terms of
Article 5 (3b) of the EC Treaty[footnoteRef:5].it evolves into probable when they are evaluated or

Analysis Of The Book American Psycho By Bret Easton Ellis
American Psycho is a novel written by Bret Easton Ellis in 1991. The book details the life and
subsequent descent into madness of yuppie investment banker Patrick Bateman. Bateman appears to
everyone as charming young man but is also possibly one of the most vicious serial killers in
American history (whether Bateman committed the murders is left ambiguous). It takes place at the
height of the Reagan era in Manhattan and is primarily a critique of the vapid and capitalist society
that Bateman resides in. Ellis criticizes various aspects of American culture through both the actions
and thoughts of Patrick Bateman and those around him. Bateman acts as symbol of the death of ones
humanity that occurs in a superficial and nihilistic post modern society. The things that are critiqued
the most in this novel are materialism, conformity, superficiality, and the depravity of man. One of the
most prevalent aspects of society criticized by this novel is the depravity of man. Ellis portrays
American society as a place rife with violence and horror yet is also desensitized to it. For example
this is summarized perfectly on page 4 when Timothy Price (a friend of Bateman) looks through a
newspaper and says the following: In one issue in One issue let s see here... strangled models, babies
thrown from tenement rooftops, kids killed in the subway, a Communist rally, Mafia boss wiped out,
Nazis he flips through the pages excitedly baseball players with AIDS, more Mafia shit, gridlock,

The Relationship Between Ghrelin And Eating Disorders
What Is the Relationship Between Ghrelin and Eating Disorders?
Introduction:
Ghrelin, commonly referred to as the hunger hormone, is a 28 amino acid peptide that has many
important roles in human digestion including regulation of growth hormone release, enhancement of
appetite, and increase of food intake (1). This gut derived peptide could play an extremely important
role in the altered eating behaviors of patients with eating disorders. Increased fasting plasma ghrelin
levels have been consistently reported in underweight patients with anorexia nervosa. Circulating
levels of this hormone have also been found to be enhanced in symptomatic bulimic patients, while
also being blunted in response to balanced meals (4).
Because of ghrelin s effect on appetite and its suggested role in eating disorders, this research will aim
to investigate ghrelin s relationship with anorexia nervosa (AN) and bulimia nervosa (BN). The
following paper will determine exactly how these eating disorders influence ghrelin regulation or how
ghrelin levels may influence the eating disorders themselves. This paper will examine ghrelin s
functions, the two eating disorders, and what that relationship precisely is by examining ghrelin s
metabolic actions as well as two clinical trials that explore its role in bulimia nervosa and anorexia
nervosa.
Metabolic Basis Ghrelin has many roles in the body s metabolism, one of which is serving as the
natural ligand for the growth hormone secretagogue receptor.

Symptoms And Diagnosis Of Schizophrenia
Schizophrenia is one of the most severe psychiatric disorders that affects both male and females,
respectively. This illness is characterized by gradual increase in changes of perception, thinking, social
activities, speech, feelings, and motivations. Many studies have shown that there is a clear difference
in outcome between genders including symptom severity, age at onset and functional outcome (as
cited in Gogos, Kwek and van den Buuse, 2011, p. 213). For example, schizophrenia occurs on
average 1.5 4.5 earlier in men compared to women. Further evidence suggests that women who have a
psychiatric disorder such as schizophrenia may have various levels of estrogen; the most severe phase
of the disorder will be when there is low level of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
PPI is an indicator sensomotoric reflecting the ability of the central nervous system to filter sensory
information and is one of the best established translational paradigms that allows measuring
sensorimotor gating in both humans and rodents (Labouesse, Langhans and Meyer, 2015).
There have been many studies conducted on learning the causes of schizophrenia and its treatments.
Unfortunately, the treatments for complete recovery from this disorder still remain unsolved. Some
studies focused on a general context in terms of a role of sex hormones in schizophrenia, other studies
focused on a specific state such as cognition and role of hormones in schizophrenia. The aim of this
paper is to further analyze of the role of sex steroid hormones in schizophrenia in animal models and
human studies, compare different methodologies and possible treatments. Dopamine, which plays a
significant role in schizophrenia, regulates sensorimotor filtration information in rodents and in
humans as well. These findings fit the description of dopamine hypothetical mechanisms of disease,
possibly being associated with the processes of fragmentation and sensory cognitive overload that may
be involved in the pathology of schizophrenia (Gogos, Kwek and van den Buuse, 2011). There are
many research studies that focus on the effects of estrogen and testosterone administration in
schizophrenia. For

Ancient Roman Architecture
The building borrowed from mainly large scale ancient Roman buildings. One of the most principle
design was the longitudinal axis as the building now had the focus of attention to the opposite end to
the entrance. This was because it was a church thus that design enabled number of people to gather for
the liturgy with an inward focus on the altar. Another principle design is the series of arches/pillars on
both sides, that are continuous throughout the side of the church. The purpose of that is to again lead
your eyes into the critical point of the church, the altar. Note that the pillars are in corinthian style.
Another notable design is the wooden door in the entrance which it has carved imageries of scenes
from the Bible, basically a frieze but on wood. There is also, inside the church one aisle on each side
behind the arches/pillars, and the central naive which has a wide open space. Also opposite of the
church there is the altar which is in a semi circular space. Above the altar there is a beautiful painting,
probably a frieze, above the altar which is highly polychromed, even using rare colors like blue.
Another notable feature was the use of clerestory which lit the church with sunlight softly ... Show

includes the longitudinal axis trying to pull your attention toward the pillar. The sanctuary screen was

was there so that large amount of people can move into the church easily. Also frescos and images of

Syntax And Syntax
The task of providing a simple description of a programming language is very difficult but it is
essential to the language s success.
ALGOL 60 and 68 was initially represented using compact formal descriptions; in both scenarios,
however, the description was not clear because they utilized a completely new notation. Hence, both
these languages were not accepted by the developer community. Similarly, few languages have faced
some issues due to different dialects, a result of simple but informal and imprecise description.
The study of programming languages is similar to natural languages. It can be classified into Syntax

Semantics is referred to the meaning of words and sentences.
Mostly semantics studies the understanding of each word and creates the sentences in the form of text

The Role Of Choices In Ayn Rand s Anthem
Having choices can sometime leave a negative result that could affect others. Because of some
individuals who could have caused problems for society,or because of strict individuals working for
the government, choices are sometimes limited to the privileged. But it can cause problems for
individuals who need the ability to make their own choices for their own sake. In the novella Anthem

are taught that having their life is a privilege. We are nothing. Mankind is all. By the grace of our

Dieter s job involved a repetitive task: using a straight pole with a hook on the end to pull out the
polystyrene bin liner from each empty kiwifruit bin as it passed by on the conveyor line. After this
task, the bins moved along on the conveyor at a slow and steady pace until they reached a stacking
machine. This machine was an automatic forklift that stacked five empty bins on top of one another
ready for moving along to be loaded on to trucks for transport back to the orchard. Here they were
filled again, and the process repeated. On the night of the incident, Dieter had started his shift on time
at 11.00pm. He had been in his job for 19 days, working an average of 50 hours a week. He had his
normal break at 1.15am. At about 2.00am he missed removing a bin liner. He then left his work station

Preface
The assignment for this week was to write a paper based on the case Global Wine War 2009: New
World versus Old. We experienced that it was an interesting case considering both Porter s five forces
model and Resource Based theory, because they give two different perspectives of competitive
advantage: Outside in and Inside out. Besides that we could have a closer look at innovations and
what they mean for the competitiveness in the world wine market. In this paper we make an effort in
explaining what the main aspects ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, the Appellation d Origin Controllée (AOC) law in France. Italy followed France and also
introduced laws and regulations. Producers supported these laws and regulations, they saw this as an
opportunity to differentiate their wine and raising the entry barriers. In a later stage other regions in
France were given the, usual lower ranked Vin Delimités de Qualite Superieure (VDQS) and the, even
lower ranked Vin de Pays, inexpensive but very drinkable wines for French tables and increasingly for
exports. Although this movement was quite rigid, due to a belief that quality was linked to terroir.
A New World was born
In the last quarter of the 19th century, the phylloxera from the new world caused the devastation of the
French vine stock which led to an enormous decrease of wine supply, while demand stayed at the
same level. The French solved this problem by importing vine roots from the US that were resistant
for the phylloxera .
At this point, the New World outperformed the Old World. Compared to the Old World, the New
World had several advantages. First, suitable land was widely available and less expensive. Second,
the New World began to experiment with wine technologies which led to great innovations in the wine
industry. Because of these innovations, the costs of producing a tonne of wine in the New World
decreased drastically compared to the Old World. The third advantage of the New World occurred in
the distribution. The New World wine companies

Tennessee Williams Research Paper
Tennessee Williams was born Thomas Lanier Williams, on the 26th of March, 1911 in Columbus,
Mississippi and was the second of three children to Cornelius and Edwina Williams. Tennessee recalls
his father as a womanizing alcoholic , and his mother to be overbearing, sexually repressed and
mentally disturbed, and believed there have been too many instances of extreme eccentricity and even
lunacy in my family . Tennessee Williams had a younger brother named Dakin and an older sister
Rose, who he loved more dearly than anyone. Rose was diagnosed with Schizophrenia, and spent
most of her life in mental institutions following a prefrontal lobotomy as authorized by Edwina. Rose

The 1960 s proved to be tumultuous. Williams hit a creative and emotional collapse, and became
depressed, disillusioned and addicted to prescriptive drugs, and in 1969, his brother Dakin admitted
him to the psychiatric ward at Barnes Hospital in Saint Louis for three months, to which Williams
called a snake pit . After dismissal he started writing again in an attempt to reclaim fame, however a
deep paranoia set in which alienated him from loved ones. After more poor reviews, he turned back to
alcohol, amphetamines and sedatives as a means of coping. Lyle Leverich believes that, the greatest
indignity Williams was made to suffer in his last years was seeing his reputation as a playwright
tarnished by his dissolution . On the 24th of February in 1983, Williams was found dead in his room
of Hotel Elysée, New York, where it was later believed that he had choked on a prescription bottle
cap. Tennessee Williams remains one of the most exciting and articulate American dramatists who,
according to renowned literary critic Stark Young, was a poetic innovator who refused to be confined
to the usual sterilities of our playwriting patterns . Williams was widely acknowledged as being ahead
of his time, with a

Nelson Mandela was known as a world leader for his role in fighting apartheid and being the first
multi racial president of South Africa. His presidency created a significant change in the perception

known to be a leader of a civil rights organization known as the African National Congress. The
purpose of the African National Congress was to demolish racial segregation and discrimination. The
two most significant social changes made by Nelson Mandela was his uniting of a fiercely divided

In 1993, Nelson Mandela was elected the first multi racial president of South Africa. During his term,
he created a new constitution of law that declared majority rule and South Africa became racially
united. Every race was granted their human rights in South Africa thanks to the hard work and
struggles of Nelson Mandela, and his work was recognized nationally. Nelson Mandela later worked
on economic improvement within South Africa and focused on issues such as poverty and AIDS.
Racial segregation and discrimination was also occurring in other parts of the world besides South
Africa. Martin Luther King Jr. was a colored pastor from Montgomery, Alabama who shared a similar
vision as Nelson Mandela. Martin Luther King Jr. had a vision that he could live in a world where race
did not affect how others treated you and or how you lived your life. The two most significant political
changes made by Martin Luther King Jr. were the abolishment of racial segregation and the granting
of civil rights and equality for Negroes.
Martin Luther King Jr. started a revolution in the 1950 s and 1960 s. Martin Luther King Jr. believed

Orange Juice: Health Benefits, Nutritional Value Calories
Orange juice, as you can probably guess, is the juice squeezed from the popular and delicious citrus
fruit, oranges. It is widely considered one of the healthiest beverages because of its wide range of
health benefits, which include its ability to boost immune system function, reduce signs of aging,
protect against cancer, boost cellular repair and metabolism, detoxify the body, improve circulation,
improves blood pressure, reduces inflammation, and lowers cholesterol levels.
Oranges have been a staple of eating healthy for thousands of years, and the fruit probably originated
somewhere in Southeast Asia. Historical records of oranges date back as far as China, more than 4,500

All together, Parameswaran s article is well researched as she refers to a variety of sources as she
transitions from one topic to the next. She cites information from many different sources to support
her overall stance but sometimes uses too many quotations. Although there is not a rule about how
many sources one should use in their academic writing, one can argue that Parameswaran s article is
mostly composed of source information, rather than composing her stance with her own voice.
Because the use of sources is overpowering, her writing becomes overwhelming for readers because
they are not getting the author s point of view on the issue. Parameswaran states that as students learn
about issues of discrimination, they begin to reexamine their values. At times, the reexamination leads
students who belong to dominant groups to feel guilty and accuse people who belong to
underrepresented groups of reverse racism (qtd. in Parameswaran 5). An example of a source
Parameswaran overuses is information from Dr. Beverly Daniel Tatum, a psychologist and author who
focuses on race in education, and expands on reverse racism. Tautm s book discusses how students
learn about Whites who were and/or are racists. Parameswaran reiterates Tatum s ideas by stating that
most students can name people who hold racist values, but cannot recall any White individuals who
fought against racial prejudice. According to Tatum, this is one reason that White

(Figure 1). This continuum helps describe how pricing methods can best be used to address particular
pricing issues based on the level of competition needed to be considered and the depth of pricing
knowledge needed.
Custom research pricing methods fall into two main approaches: (1) pricing the total product (pricing
for a complete concept /product) and (2) pricing elements of a variable concept /product offering such
as branding or features. This discussion will focus on pricing the total product. We are focusing on this
because pricing elements (which is largely accomplished through conjoint trade off models) tends to
focus more on the features as either equal or superior to price and often needs to be used in
conjunction with another method to fully understand the impact of price on brand success. Specific
techniques that price the total product and which are covered in this paper are Gabor Granger, price
sensitivity measurement, monadic concept, brand price trade off, and simple discrete choice. Fuller
profile discrete choice will be discussed briefly along with the simple discrete choice approach.

Like Italy, the people of Okinawa have a very specific and focused diet. They prevent themselves from
overeating by eating off of smaller plates, so they tend to eat fewer calories at every sitting (8:30

dinner table, and not going back for seconds. Obesity and overeating are large problems in America,
so a good way to fight it is by starting in small communities like Stafford. Apart from the way the
Okinawans eat, the way the elderly live at the time of their retirement is important. They use the word
ikigai as opposed to retirement, which means the reason for which you wake up in the morning (10:25
10:40). In other words, ikigai refers to one s sense of purpose. This habit is beneficial because it
allows them to have something to look forward to everyday. To continue this habit in Stafford, the
people in the community should be taught the meaning of the word and be reminded that by just
looking forward each day, about seven years could be added to their life.

and the representation that the photographer wishes to portray. The connotation is how something is

the essence of the picture is manipulated by one or more of these external factors. It may be argued
that the art of photography itself is not organic, but merely the careful manipulation of external
elements, constructed by the artist. However, Barthes does not consider photography as an analogue, a

A Comparative Analysis of the Characters of King Lear and...
Kurosawa and Shakespeare Introduction: The greatest narratives in human history don t just resurface
in critical analysis but are also given new life when channeled through modern media. This is well
exemplified by legendary Japanese filmmaker Akira Kurosawa s 1985 epic, Ran. The highly regarded
and high budgeted film, based on William Shakespeare s 1606 play King Lear, demonstrates the
power retained by the original play even when dramatically recontextualized. Indeed, in a comparative
discussion of King Lear and Hidetora, his counterpart in the Kurosawa film, we are confronted with
the universal themes of power, mortality, vanity and insanity. These are the themes that connect not
just both pieces but the otherwise vastly historical periods and cultures represented within. Compare:
The strongest point of comparison between the two characters in question is their mutual descent into
mental instability and the degree to which this influences their behavior. Indeed, the common ground
in the two stories is at the outset, when an ailing ruler is manipulated into divided his kingdom
amongst his children. This division of territories, an event stimulated by individual vanity and
infirmity, would have consequences kingdom wide. The unraveling of civility and familial bonds
which would occur thereafter is common to both tellings. Contrast: Perhaps the most important
conceptual difference between the fading monarch presented in either story is the degree to which

Examples Of Thomas In The Movie Crash
The Sociology of Crash The Thomas Theorem is a sociological theorem developed in 1928 by W.I.
Thomas and D.S. Thomas that states, if men define situations as real, they are real in their
consequences. In other terms, how a person interprets the reality of a situation determines the
ramifications of the situation. There are several occurrences of the Thomas Theorem within the movie
Crash, most notably when Jean reacts in blind fear to the presence of Anthony and Peter, when Daniel
s daughter attempts to protect her father with her invisible cloak, and when Officer Hansen shoots
Peter. In the case of the carjacking of the Cabot s Lincoln Navigator, Anthony and Peter are merely
walking down the sidewalk in the Cabot s direction when Jean

The Psychological Phenomenon Of The Bystander Effect
Paragraph 1 (introduction and thesis) Thesis not included From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia This
article is about the psychological phenomenon. For the bystander effect in radiobiology, see Bystander
effect (radiobiology). The bystander effect, or bystander apathy, is a social psychological phenomenon
that refers to cases in which individuals do not offer any means of help to a victim when other people
are present. The probability of help is inversely related to the number of bystanders. In other words,
the greater the number of bystanders, the less likely it is that any one of them will help. No thesis

(narrative of Catherine Genovese s attack) On Friday 13 March in 1964, 28 year old Catherine
Genovese was arriving home in her built up neighborhood from a late night shift as a bar manager in
Queens, New York. She was suddenly attacked with a knife by a man named Winston Moseley. She
screamed aloud Oh my God, I ve been stabbed! Please help me! We know what she screamed because
people heard her. People who didn t lift a finger to help. People who didn t want to get involved , who
didn t call the police. Moseley saw lights come on in the apartments nearby. He knew people were
watching. He ran off, leaving Catherine to drag herself into a doorway where she lay bleeding she
could possibly have survived at this point. But her attacker decided to return to

The Affordable Care Act ( Aca ) Essay
Introduction One of the goals of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) was to reduce healthcare spending in
the US (DeMichele, 2015). However, the passage of the ACA has spurred activity that is counter to
this goal of decreased spending in the form of increased hospital consolidation which many studies
show has led to higher prices. While, there are many other effects of hospital consolidation such as the
impact on quality of care or innovation, these topics are beyond the scope of this paper. Why
Consolidate? In the hope of better coordinating the care of patients, improving quality and lowering
costs, the ACA provides incentives for physicians and hospitals to work together in several ways, such
as Accountable Care Organizations (ACO s) or establishing bundled payments for episodes of care
(Martin Gaynor, 2012 ) which has spurred consolidation (Becker, Gamble, Rosin, 2015). Additionally,
compliance with various federal programs such as Meaningful Use requires a significant investment in
technology which can be fiscally challenging for smaller provider groups; driving acquisitions of these
smaller entities by larger health systems. Other reasons cited by hospital administrators in the pursuit
of consolidation is to ensure a steady stream of physician referrals (NPR, 2010), and to create
economies of scale and increased efficiencies, the fruits of which result in reduced costs and therefore
cheaper care for patients (ProMarket Writers, 2016). However, what most hospital

Children s Tumor Foundation Research Paper
Children s Tumor Foundation
The minute I saw families supporting a friend or family member who had or is battling
neurofibromatosis(NF), I had this warm sentiment needing to do the most to give my full support in
any given way to the families. The Children s Tumor Foundation is a non profit organization that
devotes to finding effective treatments for the millions of people worldwide overall living with
neurofibromatosis (NF), a genetic disorder that causes tumors to develop on nerves all throughout the
body. The foundation organized a carnival that joined a wide range of foods, raffle tickets,T shirts sale,
celebrity karaoke and so on this happens each year at the CBS studio. I had a pleasure to meet one of
only a handful few individuals ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As I arrived I met Joyce( leader of the foundation) along with her son who is legally blind and had
been in chemotherapy for four years. When I met her she greeted me and had this smile and told me,
Thank you for taking your time to volunteer it really means a lot to us . I saw families coming in with
T shirts with names on it and I figure they were families that were supporting a friend or family
member who was at the time or is battling NF. It felt great just even volunteering and being part of the
foundation because I was able to interact with families as they came in . I really build a connection
with one of the families I had came across with and opened up to me about their younger son who had
just survived NF. It was just one of those moments where all you can do is support them with your
presence. This foundation felt more like we were all a family gathering and supporting one another
and knowing that they re not alone. I was assigned to do cashier for raffle tickets, but Joyce was nice
enough for volunteers to rotate hourly to perform different tasks. None of the tasks that I did were
hard in any way. I was able to be cashier for raffle tickets, guide families as they walk to support the
NF, and organize all of the gifts that were going to give out on the raffle tickets. It was quite
enjoyable. Everyone that volunteer there was very friendly and was very helpful. They even provided
us lunch and a fifteen minute break to volunteers. I really liked the way that they cared and were kind
to us throughout the time we were present. I really got to gain experience in learning how to do things
and gain more knowledge in what the purpose of the foundation was for. I think the best experience I
had was meet celebrities that came along and support families. They had celebrity karaoke for children
and family to participate and sing along. I had a pleasure to meet two

Garden Of Eden Research Paper
The Jewish people believe that the current world is a place to prepare oneself for Olam Ha Ba, the
World to Come. According to the Talmud, all of Israel has a share in the World to Come, but it is not
equal. A righteous person will have a greater share than that of an ordinary person. The place of
spiritual reward for the righteous is known as Gan Eden, the Garden of Eden. This is not the same
garden in which Adam and Eve lived. The Garden of Eden is a spiritual utopia in which only the
righteous directly go to. An average person would first go to a place of punishment and/or
purification, known as Gehinnom or She ol. The time spent in She ol continues no longer than 12
months before people are able to ascend to the World to Come. Those that ... Show more content on

Jewish tradition states, For when a man departs from this world... [he] meets Adam, the first man,
witting at the gate of Gan Eden, ready to welcome with joy all those who have observed the
commands of their Master. Round him are many righteous men, those who in this life have kept clear
of the path to Gehinnom and followed the part of Gan Eden. Upon arriving in Gan Eden, souls
encounter the light of Gan Eden through the River of Light. Tradition states that the river is created
from perspiration that flows from the heavenly hosts as they fervently sing glory to the Highest. The
river serves the purpose of purification so that one may emerge and come before the Master of the
Universe in a completely pure state. Within Gan Eden, there is a lower and an upper level. Lower Gan
Eden serves as a transit between She ol and Upper Gan Eden. In Lower Gan Eden souls continue to
prepare for entry into the Upper Gan Eden. The Zohar, a work from within the Kabbalah, states that
upper Gan Eden is reserved for the pious of a higher grade. Upon entering upper Gan Eden, the soul is
once again purified in the River of Light. The second purification heals the soul of any remaining
defilements. Upper Gan Eden is said to consist of celestial music and organized schools for
continuous learning of the Torah. Within the upper level, there are many other levels

EL 120: English Phonetics and Linguistics
Question 1:
Vowels and Consonants are two special qualities of sounds, which are present in every languages of
world (Ladefoged, 2001). If one needs to speak English with proper pronunciation so one needs to
learn phonetics.
Letters and sounds also have a very thin line between them, where Letters are in writing and sounds
can be spoken. These functions should not be confused. When we write the letters are used to express
sounds. There are words that sound similar but are written differently for example Sent, Scent and
Cent or Bare and Bear. People get confused while speaking and writing a word and isolating the
phonemes in similar words. Therefore, in solution people should listen to sound only rather
concentrating on letters. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Consonants are prepared by an exact intervention with airstream by organs that are vocal. This is the
reason they are easily described than vowels. In contrast, vowels are produced without any
interference of airstream. The air stream flows through the nose or the mouth relatively without
hindrance. The difference in the sound of vowels is produce by different arrangement of lips and
tongue. The example of vowels is a, e, i, o and u . Consonants in phonetics are called as contoids
which appears as the insignificant part in syllable. Where vowels are called as vocoids in phonetics
and can be classified as tongue height, part of the tongues used in the sounding vowel and rounding

Jilting in William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily and Katherine Anne Porter s The Jilting of Granny
Weatherall Webster s dictionary defines the word jilt as the act of rejecting a lover. So to be deserted
by another, left at the altar, or unwanted by another, is to be jilted. In William Faulkner s A Rose for
Emily and in The Jilting of Granny Weatherall by Katherine Anne Porter, Emily and Granny
Weatherall throughout the course of their lives experience jilting several times. In turn, this rejection
places a significant emphasis on both of their lives.

With this discovery, Emily knew she could never have him and could not bear the thought of another
man that she loved leaving her. This must have been the breaking point for her. Emily was determined
not to let another man leave her for the third time. Therefore she purchased the arsenic so she could be
with him forever. The last person to see Homer was a neighbor as the Negro man was admitting him
in at the kitchen door at dusk one evening. Again, Emily submerged herself into the familiar calm of
isolation until her death. After her funeral, the narrator (the town) paints the picture of their discovery
in the room above the stairs. A room in which no one had seen in for forty years. The man himself lay
in the bed. For a long while we just stood there, looking down at the profound and fleshless grin. The
body had once lain in the attitude of an embrace, but now the long sleep that outlasts love, that
conquers even the grimace of love, had cuckolded him. What was left of him.... Then we noticed that
in the second pillow was the indentation of a head. One of us lifted

Examples Of Social Darwinism
Social Darwinism is based on Charles Darwin s concept of evolution but implied to society. It takes on
a survival of the fittest agenda while using natural selection to weed out the weak from the majority of
society. The we would be white people, specifically white men, and the they would be the people they
enslaved or forcibly ruled over. In Rudyard Kipling s poem, The White Man s Burden he based this on
the people of the Philippines after the Spanish American War when America had won. In my opinion,
a little hypocritical seeing as he was British and the Brits weren t ones to talk; perhaps he meant this in
the broadest sense even though he was looking at this particular incident which is also likely.

nursing profession. This includes Register Nurses(RN s) and Licesnse Nurses (LPN s) Although these
problems at the workplace has been recognized globally, a culture of silence still prevails and abuse
gets overlooked in many institutions in the United States and worldwide . This paper provides a
quantitative review that estimates exposure rates by type of violence, setting, source, and world region

Studies have proved that nurses continuously face physical, emotional and verbal abuse in their
workplace settings by patients, patient s families, physicians, administrators, fellow nurses and other
healthcare workers (Judkins Cohn, 2010). According to a limited number of studies, verbal abuse
experienced by nurses negatively impact their morale and job performance influencing the quality of
patient care. In some cases, nurses just transfer to a different unit or department because of
experiencing verbal or physical abuse.

In Todays Modern World, Stereotype Threats Are Seen Widely,
In todays modern world, stereotype threats are seen widely, yet are not spoken about very often.
Darnell Rock Reporting is a book published in 1994 by Dean Myers, which focuses on a seventh
grader by the name of Darnell Rock who attends Oakdale High School. Darnell Rock is a student who
is known for being a troublemaker and spends most of the time at the principal s office. Since he is
known for being a bad kid, people stereotype him as if that is all he is good for. Darnell meets a man
by the name of Sweeby who is homeless and along with Darnell Sweeby is also stereotyped. Although
both Darnell and Sweeby are stereotyped in a negative way, both of them end the story with a positive
outcome. Stereotype threat means individuals that are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Darnell and Mr. Baker are discussing, Mr. Baker states, Can t you spend one day without
getting into trouble? If you can t do anything positive, why are you coming to school? Darnell then
tells Mr. Baker he wants to join the newspaper; Mr. Baker was shooked (7). This is a great example on
how Mr. Baker stereotyped and looked down on Darnell because he knows that Darnell is no good for
doing anything else but getting in trouble which is why he questions Darnell. In chapter five, Darnell
was having a bad day and everything that could go wrong literally went wrong. He forgot his math
book for Mr. Ohrbach s class. Mr. Ohrbach got angry and stated, It s a good thing your head is
screwed on adding or you would leave that home too (44). However, Darnell did not think that was
funny at all since he had heard it a hundred times and the same people always laughed. Mr. Ohrback
stereotyped him to be an irresponsible person and could never get anything right. Morever, Sweeby is
also a main character in the story that is negatively stereotyped. Darnell decides to interview Sweeby
for his newspaper article, which is where we get most of the insight on how Sweeby is stereotyped.
Darnell meets Sweeby when he is walking home from school one day, they both spoke for quite a few,
within that talk Darnell finds out that Sweeby knows his dad because they were in the Army together.
Mr. Rock is one of the main characters that stereotypes

  • 2. The Four Core Beliefs Of Derek Jeter When you start your education at Sport and Medical Sciences Academy(SMSA) you are taught and are expected to follow the four core beliefs that shape our school and its environment. The four core beliefs are discipline, respect, dedication, and responsibility or how most students know it as D.R.D.R. However, SMSA students are not the only ones that abide by these rules and beliefs. A well known athlete that is a great example of this is the New York Yankees shortstop, Derek Jeter. According to Jeter, his success did not come overnight. His biography displays all the hard work he went through to become the best and he started just at the age of eight with a goal of becoming a shortstop for the New York Yankees. Jeter inspires others to set their goals above and beyond, and if you work hard or believe in yourself that you can achieve anything you want. Discipline is just one of the four core beliefs and it means behavior in accord with rules of conduct, (Dictionary.com). Throughout his career Jeter made his own rules of do s and don ts and an example is, I always tell people that I don t like to boast and I don t like people who brag, but I break my own rules when it comes to my parents, (Curry 55). Instead of bragging like most players would after a win, Jeter made his own rule that he could not brag and he followed that rule, unless it comes to his parents of course. Jeter also followed another rule, he says, I ve always felt that whether you re a professional athlete or a bus driver, it s better to be humble, (Curry 130). Jeter probably follows most of the rules he makes for himself every day. It keeps his behavior and the way he acts around others in check, by now these rules are more of a habit/lifestyle instead of a burden. Respect is the second core belief and its definition is esteem for or a sense of the worth or excellence of a person, a personal quality or ability, or something considered as a manifestation of a personal quality or ability, (Dictionary.com). Derek had so much respect for his coaches, teammates, and especially his parents because when he felt like quitting they were there to make sure he achieved his goal and dream. At a young age, Jeter and his sister Sharlee were treated ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Biography of Franklin Delano Roosevelt Essay Biography of Franklin Delano Roosevelt Franklin Delano Roosevelt, (1882 1945), 32nd of the United States. Roosevelt became president in March 1933 at the depth of the Great Depression, was reelected for an unprecedented three more terms, and died in office in April 1945, less than a month before the surrender of Germany in World War II. Despite an attack of poliomyelitis, which paralyzed his legs in 1921, he was a charismatic optimist whose confidence helped sustain the American people during the strains of economic crisis and world war. He was one of America s most controversial leaders. Conservatives claimed that he undermined states rights and individual liberty. Though Roosevelt labored hard to end the Depression, he had limited ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Her father, one of James business associates, had made and lost fortunes in the China trade before settling with his wife and 11 children on the west bank of the Hudson. Sara had sailed to China as a girl, attended school abroad, and moved in high social circles in London and Paris. Though only half her husband s age of 52 at the time of her marriage in 1880, she settled in happily at Hyde Park. Their marriage was serene until broken by James death in 1900. His record at Harvard, which he attended between 1900 and 1904, was only slightly more impressive. Thanks to his excellent preparation at Groton, he was able to complete his course of study for his B.A. in 1903, in only three years. During his fourth year he served as editor of the Crimson, the college newspaper. However, he was not accepted for Porcellian, Harvard s most prestigious social club, and he did not receive much stimulation in the classroom. As at Groton, his grades were mediocre, and he showed no excitement about his studies. At this point politics gave him a sense of purpose. The Democratic organization in Dutchess county, the area around Hyde Park, needed a candidate for the New York state Senate in 1910. Party leaders recognized that although Roosevelt had no political experience he had assets as a candidate: the wealth to finance a campaign, and the best known political name in the United States. Roosevelt worked as never before during the campaign. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Persons and Others Essay examples CAITLYN DALY The essay Persons and Others written by Lorraine Code reviews and responds to specific issues and details in the novel As We Are Now by May Sarton. As We Are Now is a novel about the struggles the elderly face when that time comes. The story is told from Miss Caro Spencer s point of view, beginning when she is brought and left at a mediocre nursing home for the elderly. She tells about hardships of growing old from the mental, emotional and physical troubles. Caro is forced to stay at Twin Elms nursing home by her older brother John and his much younger wife Ginny, this is her only family and she feels some what betrayed by them. Her caretakers at Twin Elm are awful and treat her horribly as she explains through out the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The women refer to the people in their care as nothing more than poor things , as if they aren t people but merely objects; and Code recognizes that by objectifying these old people the caretakers saying that they are worth nothing. As stated by Code on page 4 Treating a person as little more than an object, in its cognitive dimension, implies acknowledging no significant differences between such a person and an ordinary, everyday object , what I get from this is that the women who run the nursing home and those who objectify any person are completely ignorant. Before you can judge and objectify, though you really should never objectify people, you need to truly know a person and understand who they are and where they came from; a treatment that Caro s caretakers never gave her or any other guest in their nursing home. Code explains through Kantian s formulation that one must always treat with humanity and that there are different levels of knowing other people. It takes time to truly know some one and if we just give time to understand people we could treat them much better and more appropriately. These two women who run Twin Elms have put themselves in this position and portray themselves as responsible women who can be trusted with old, senile, and overall vulnerable people. Code believes the best way to care for these type of old people is sympathetically and compassionately; as we would want to be treated ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Children s Responsibilities For Children Every adult who has children knows it is a challenging experience and extremely rewarding, especially when the children grow to be responsible, independent, caring, productive adults and parents in their own right. After helping raise my own children, being a professional martial arts instructor since 1979, teaching thousands of children and helping other parents raise their children (so they tell me), here are 10 keys I feel are important to raising children successfully. 1. Leadership Kids need a leader, someone who is strong, responsible, caring and committed to their highest and best good. What children do not need is to be the parent to their parents. Children do not need to be buddies, pals or best friends with their parents until they, the children, are adults. Children are children. They need leaders to lead, guide and direct them through their early life. Those leaders are the parents who need to take a front row in raising their kids. For children to be successful in life, they need a strong parental foundation, one that puts them before their parent s careers, activities, relationships and jobs. Children should never be thought of as appendages to a parent s life. Until the children are of legal age, the children are the parent s life. When this commitment is given to children, it is a boon to their early development and later success as responsible and independent adults. 2. Structure Children need structure. They need foundational guidelines. They need to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Analysis Of The Book American Psycho By Bret Easton Ellis American Psycho is a novel written by Bret Easton Ellis in 1991. The book details the life and subsequent descent into madness of yuppie investment banker Patrick Bateman. Bateman appears to everyone as charming young man but is also possibly one of the most vicious serial killers in American history (whether Bateman committed the murders is left ambiguous). It takes place at the height of the Reagan era in Manhattan and is primarily a critique of the vapid and capitalist society that Bateman resides in. Ellis criticizes various aspects of American culture through both the actions and thoughts of Patrick Bateman and those around him. Bateman acts as symbol of the death of ones humanity that occurs in a superficial and nihilistic post modern society. The things that are critiqued the most in this novel are materialism, conformity, superficiality, and the depravity of man. One of the most prevalent aspects of society criticized by this novel is the depravity of man. Ellis portrays American society as a place rife with violence and horror yet is also desensitized to it. For example this is summarized perfectly on page 4 when Timothy Price (a friend of Bateman) looks through a newspaper and says the following: In one issue in One issue let s see here... strangled models, babies thrown from tenement rooftops, kids killed in the subway, a Communist rally, Mafia boss wiped out, Nazis he flips through the pages excitedly baseball players with AIDS, more Mafia shit, gridlock, ... • 8. The Relationship Between Ghrelin And Eating Disorders What Is the Relationship Between Ghrelin and Eating Disorders? Introduction: Ghrelin, commonly referred to as the hunger hormone, is a 28 amino acid peptide that has many important roles in human digestion including regulation of growth hormone release, enhancement of appetite, and increase of food intake (1). This gut derived peptide could play an extremely important role in the altered eating behaviors of patients with eating disorders. Increased fasting plasma ghrelin levels have been consistently reported in underweight patients with anorexia nervosa. Circulating levels of this hormone have also been found to be enhanced in symptomatic bulimic patients, while also being blunted in response to balanced meals (4). Because of ghrelin s effect on appetite and its suggested role in eating disorders, this research will aim to investigate ghrelin s relationship with anorexia nervosa (AN) and bulimia nervosa (BN). The following paper will determine exactly how these eating disorders influence ghrelin regulation or how ghrelin levels may influence the eating disorders themselves. This paper will examine ghrelin s functions, the two eating disorders, and what that relationship precisely is by examining ghrelin s metabolic actions as well as two clinical trials that explore its role in bulimia nervosa and anorexia nervosa. Metabolic Basis Ghrelin has many roles in the body s metabolism, one of which is serving as the natural ligand for the growth hormone secretagogue receptor. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One of the most principle design was the longitudinal axis as the building now had the focus of attention to the opposite end to the entrance. This was because it was a church thus that design enabled number of people to gather for the liturgy with an inward focus on the altar. Another principle design is the series of arches/pillars on both sides, that are continuous throughout the side of the church. The purpose of that is to again lead your eyes into the critical point of the church, the altar. Note that the pillars are in corinthian style. Another notable design is the wooden door in the entrance which it has carved imageries of scenes from the Bible, basically a frieze but on wood. There is also, inside the church one aisle on each side behind the arches/pillars, and the central naive which has a wide open space. Also opposite of the church there is the altar which is in a semi circular space. It is long after a worldwide apocalypse. They are taught that having their life is a privilege. We are nothing. Mankind is all. By the grace of our brother we are allowed our lives. After this task, the bins moved along on the conveyor at a slow and steady pace until they reached a stacking machine. This machine was an automatic forklift that stacked five empty bins on top of one another ready for moving along to be loaded on to trucks for transport back to the orchard. Although there is not a rule about how many sources one should use in their academic writing, one can argue that Parameswaran s article is mostly composed of source information, rather than composing her stance with her own voice. Because the use of sources is overpowering, her writing becomes overwhelming for readers because they are not getting the author s point of view on the issue. At times, the reexamination leads students who belong to dominant groups to feel guilty and accuse people who belong to underrepresented groups of reverse racism (qtd. in Parameswaran 5). • 36. A Comparative Analysis of the Characters of King Lear and... Kurosawa and Shakespeare Introduction: The greatest narratives in human history don t just resurface in critical analysis but are also given new life when channeled through modern media. This is well exemplified by legendary Japanese filmmaker Akira Kurosawa s 1985 epic, Ran. The highly regarded and high budgeted film, based on William Shakespeare s 1606 play King Lear, demonstrates the power retained by the original play even when dramatically recontextualized. Indeed, in a comparative discussion of King Lear and Hidetora, his counterpart in the Kurosawa film, we are confronted with the universal themes of power, mortality, vanity and insanity. These are the themes that connect not just both pieces but the otherwise vastly historical periods and cultures represented within. Compare: The strongest point of comparison between the two characters in question is their mutual descent into mental instability and the degree to which this influences their behavior. Indeed, the common ground in the two stories is at the outset, when an ailing ruler is manipulated into divided his kingdom amongst his children. This division of territories, an event stimulated by individual vanity and infirmity, would have consequences kingdom wide. The unraveling of civility and familial bonds which would occur thereafter is common to both tellings. Contrast: Perhaps the most important conceptual difference between the fading monarch presented in either story is the degree to which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 40. The Affordable Care Act ( Aca ) Essay Introduction One of the goals of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) was to reduce healthcare spending in the US (DeMichele, 2015). However, the passage of the ACA has spurred activity that is counter to this goal of decreased spending in the form of increased hospital consolidation which many studies show has led to higher prices. While, there are many other effects of hospital consolidation such as the impact on quality of care or innovation, these topics are beyond the scope of this paper. Why Consolidate? In the hope of better coordinating the care of patients, improving quality and lowering costs, the ACA provides incentives for physicians and hospitals to work together in several ways, such as Accountable Care Organizations (ACO s) or establishing bundled payments for episodes of care (Martin Gaynor, 2012 ) which has spurred consolidation (Becker, Gamble, Rosin, 2015). Additionally, compliance with various federal programs such as Meaningful Use requires a significant investment in technology which can be fiscally challenging for smaller provider groups; driving acquisitions of these smaller entities by larger health systems. Other reasons cited by hospital administrators in the pursuit of consolidation is to ensure a steady stream of physician referrals (NPR, 2010), and to create economies of scale and increased efficiencies, the fruits of which result in reduced costs and therefore cheaper care for patients (ProMarket Writers, 2016). However, what most hospital ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I saw families coming in with T shirts with names on it and I figure they were families that were supporting a friend or family member who was at the time or is battling NF. It felt great just even volunteering and being part of the foundation because I was able to interact with families as they came in . I really build a connection with one of the families I had came across with and opened up to me about their younger son who had just survived NF. It was just one of those moments where all you can do is support them with your presence. This foundation felt more like we were all a family gathering and supporting one another and knowing that they re not alone. I was assigned to do cashier for raffle tickets, but Joyce was nice enough for volunteers to rotate hourly to perform different tasks. None of the tasks that I did were hard in any way. I was able to be cashier for raffle tickets, guide families as they walk to support the NF, and organize all of the gifts that were going to give out on the raffle tickets. It was quite enjoyable. Everyone that volunteer there was very friendly and was very helpful. They even provided us lunch and a fifteen minute break to volunteers. I really liked the way that they cared and were kind to us throughout the time we were present. This is a great example on how Mr. Baker stereotyped and looked down on Darnell because he knows that Darnell is no good for doing anything else but getting in trouble which is why he questions Darnell. In chapter five, Darnell was having a bad day and everything that could go wrong literally went wrong. He forgot his math book for Mr. Ohrbach s class.
