T-Lymphotropic Virus, Kaposi s Sarcoma
Viral Oncology is the study of virus caused cancers. These cancers include Adult T cell Leukemia,
Kaposi s Sarcoma, Cervical Carcinoma, Hepatocellular Carcinoma, and Burkitt s Lymphoma. Viruses
that can cause cancer are known as oncoviruses. Known oncoviruses are: Hepatitis B and C (HBV and
HCV, respectively), Human T Lymphotropic Virus (HTLV I), Human papillomavirus (HPV), Kaposi s
Sarcoma Associated Herpesvirus (HHV 8), and Epstein Barr Virus (EBV). Viruses, after entering a
host cell, integrates its genome with the host cell s DNA using the enzyme reverse transcriptase.
During normal DNA replication, the virus genome will be replicated to produce more viral particles.
During this process, host cell genes can be triggered by viral genes ... Show more content on

The cancer is usually seen in HIV positive patients because HIV weakens the immune system, making
the infected susceptible to uncommon or rare pathogens. Kaposi sarcoma (KS) is a cancer that
develops from the cells that line lymph or blood vessels. It usually appears as tumors on the skin or on
mucosal surfaces such as inside the mouth, but tumors can also develop in other parts of the body,
such as in the lymph nodes (bean sized collections of immune cells throughout the body), the lungs, or
digestive tract. KS can cause serious problems or even become life threatening when the lesions are in
the lungs, liver, or digestive tract. KS in the digestive tract, for example, can cause bleeding, while
tumors in the lungs may cause trouble breathing. A person infected with HIV (that is, who is HIV
positive) does not necessarily have AIDS. The virus can be present in the body for a long time, often
many years, before causing major illness. The disease known as AIDS begins when the virus has
seriously damaged the immune system, which results in certain types of infections or other medical
complications, including KS. When HIV damages the immune system, people who also are infected
with a certain virus (the Kaposi sarcoma associated herpes virus or KSHV) are more likely to develop

Social Phobia Or Social Anxiety Disorder
Social phobia or social anxiety disorder (SAD), and Avoidant personality disorder (AVPD) are both
characterized by having significant interference in social situations. This essay will focus on a
cognitive view to explain the similarities and differences between them.
Lifetime prevalence of SAD fall between 5% 13% (Furmark, 2002; Grant et al., 2005), and 0.5% 5%
for AVPD (Torgersen, Kringlen, Cramer, 2001; and Grant, Stinson, Dawson, Chou, Ruan, 2005) (as
cited in Hummelen, Wilberg, Pederson, Karterud, 2007, p. 348). Cox, Pagura, Stein, and Sareen,
(2009) have found high co occurrences between SAD and AVPD (36.4%) and it has been questioned
whether the two disorders are the same with different levels of severity. Further support ... Show more

Also, a key criterion indicates that the reaction must also be out of proportion to the actual situation.
An AVPD individual may exhibit anxious related behaviours because of their negative mindset, but
this is not a key feature for diagnosis. The distinction between both disorders are the emphasis of fear
of the social situation (SAD), compared to the fear of being negatively evaluated by others (AVPD).
Hirsch and Clark (2004) suggests that individuals with social phobia (SP) experience information
processing bias meaning they experience social situations differently. Individuals with SAD were
more self critical, had negative expectations, and better at recognizing negative expressions on faces
(Hirsch Clark, 2004). When anticipating a social interaction, SAD individuals recalled more negative
and less positive traits about themselves (Hirsch Clark, 2004). This can explain their fear, and anxiety,
because they were afraid their actions would be negatively evaluated by others (e.g. if they forgot, or
stumbled over their lines during a presentation causing embarrassment). On the other hand, AVPD
individuals avoid social situations because of their dysfunctional way of thinking. They hold very
negative evaluations of themselves that they are socially inadequate and unlikeable (Beck et al., 2001).
Thus, they expect others to reject them. For example, AVPD individuals were more likely to agree
with following statement

Mary Wigman
Isadora Duncan and Mary Wigman both started with the same idea of dancing, and how they should
incorporate human movement instead of ballet that was more unnatural to the body. Even though they
had a similar thought about modern dance, they had one thing that made them very different, which
was their choreography. Duncan pieces were lively and upbeat, and Wigmans were dark and
mysterious. They both approached modern dance through a different eye. Even if they lived in two
different parts of the world, The American, as represented by Isadora Duncan, and the German, as
represented by Mary Wigman, (Cass 247), the world would then get two different choreographers that
were evolving at the same time in history, which impacted the dance history. ... Show more content on

She was down rooted to the earth; dark images, death, witches, and war inspired her. She used heavy
and tense percussion or silence. A few of her choreographies got the chance to be filmed, her dances
looked as if it was improvisational but her pieces were set and stone and made up before performed.
One of the works that basically describes Wigman as a whole is the Witches Dance Its a burlesque
play of bodies, limbs, and heads. At first a crowded, tangled heap, it starts vibrating slowly in ever
increasing elastic and shaking movements, dissolves and darts out to the floor in somersaults and
grotesque jumps... The demon in the human who had worn a tragic mask in so many of Mary Wigman
s dances now wore a comical mask, as if his dark and dangerous power had been conquered, (Stewart
and Armitage 13 14). Once you go in deeper into why Wigmans pieces are so different compared to
Duncan you start looking at the bigger picture of how Germany was doing at the time, with the whole
World War I (1914 1918) and the beginning of Hitler s upraise in the 1930 s leading to World War II
(1939 1945) this was all during the time frame of Wigmans life. Knowing that these two important
figures both created dances and created a new thing at the time called modern makes them quite
extraordinary, because they both loved modern dancing, they both created a living off of it, yet they

Why Cats Are Better House Pets Than Dogs
There are five key elements in an essay. The analysis, introduction, thesis, support, and conclusion.
The first paragraph of an essay is the introduction. The introduction will catch the reader s attention
and will give them an understanding of what the essay is going to be about. In the introduction
contains the thesis. The thesis statement is the main idea of the essay. For example, Cats are better
house pets than dogs. In the second paragraph, it will include the support and analysis. The analysis is
the reasoning behind the thesis statement. It will explain why, for example, cats are better than dogs.
Then comes in the support. The support will back up the analysis with examples and quotes to prove
the point. In the third paragraph,

Cultural Appropriation And Its Effects On Minority Culture
In Western culture, people seldom realize the amount of cultural appropriation that occurs around
them. Westerners are blinded by cultural mockery and cultural appropriation without realizing its
offensive effects to minority groups. During the Halloween holiday, in Western culture, people of all
ages dress up in a variety of costumes such as horror themed, fairy tale themed, job themed, cultural
themed and much more. Harvard University members have argued that a cultural themed costume is a
form of cultural appropriation. Also in Western culture, in the music industry, white artists have
utilized and exploited aspects from minority cultures to boost their fame. Costumes, props, ideas,
music, and others considered as cultural appropriation is often overlooked but it is apparent when
closely examined. In countries that celebrate Halloween such as the United States and Canada, it is a
tradition to dress up in various types of costume themes. Some people dress up in cultural costumes or
religious costumes. Herman Bhupal and Judy Park from Harvard University have addressed that
dressing in cultural or religious costumes for Halloween, can serve as mechanisms for cultural
appropriation (This Halloween, Choose Respect). Cultural appropriation is the adoption of standards
and aspects from another culture when the culture is a minority group. Some people may agree that
wearing cultural clothing as Halloween costumes may be offensive to those of whose culture is being
mocked as

Essay On Saving Energy
Saving Energy While Improving Comfort and Productivity In actuality, well designed, naturally
ventilated buildings lead to profitability in many ways. They have the potential to cut energy use of air
conditioned buildings in half . Access to fresh air also results in better employee outputs. Natural
ventilation can increase productivity by up to 11 percent , showing that the profitability of a building s
design can be tied directly to the workforce inside. There s also the satisfaction derived from self
assessed productivity and the perception of control according to Adrian Leaman and Bill Boardass, as
well as a deeper connection to the outdoors . In addition to a sense of well being, employees in

Studies have shown that these kinds of devices can save on annual energy costs by 40 percent . 2.
Powered Window Actuators: We have them in cars, so why not in buildings? Taking measurements of
various conditions inside and outside a building, such as wind speed, dust particulate volume, and
temperature levels, sensors can be programmed to open vents automatically at various positions to suit
specific conditions. These devices are cost effective, as a single sensor can control a number of vents.
Window actuators allow a machine based approach to open windows when conditions are ideal or
when the building s design prevents human access to hard to reach vents. By introducing a simple
device with a programmed algorithm, the efficiency of the HVAC system can be instantly improved.
3. Monsoon Windows: For office buildings in the tropics, windows have to be closed when it rains
heavily, which results in shutting off airflow. With monsoon windows , a rain sensor closes windows
when it rains, however there is still airflow into the interior. 4. Full fresh air mode: just like with cars
where one can turn off the AC and have the fan on outside air mode left on, the mechanical systems in
offices can be designed to have a full fresh air mode. The windows can of course be left open to flush
out internal heat gains and humidity. 5. Night Ventilation Cooling: In the sub tropics, where the
outdoor temperature in the evening is generally lower, night ventilation

Human Rights In Australia Essay
In a general sense, human rights refer to basic rights and freedoms that are believed to belong to all
human beings. They are considered to be universal, inalienable and inherent in all people. (textbook)
Unlike many common law countries, Australia does not have a statutory or Constitutional Charter or
Bill of Rights. This means it has no single piece of documentation dedicated to the protection of
Human Rights. Instead, rights may be recognised by the constitution, by common law or by Australian
Legislation.
Enforcing internationally recognised human rights standards in Australia requires specific legislation.

Australia s international human rights obligations, anyone deprived of their liberty should be able to

not provide access to such review. While people in immigration detention may be able to seek judicial
review of their detention, Australian courts have no authority to order that a person be released from
immigration detention on the grounds that the person s detention is arbitrary. These two circumstances
are explicit breaches of Australia s international human rights obligations, which shows that even after

Philonous And Hylas Play Summary
The dialogue begins with Philonous and Hylas, the protagonists, running into each other. Philonous is
surprised to see Hylas awake so early, but Hylas seems mad. Hylas explains that he has been
contemplating over crazy beliefs that some philosophers have; those who believe nothing at all, and
those who believe everything. Hylas is scared that the philosophers will put thoughts in people s
heads, eventually turning them against their own religion and beliefs. Philonous agrees with Hylas and
explains how doesn t follow what he learned in school, rather he embraces common sense opinions.

reality) that some of their friends do. Philonous explains that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Philonous now begins to explain how materialism can lead to skepticism. Philonous must now explain
that there is no reason to believe in mind independent reality. Philonous introduces the argument from
pleasure and pain as well as the argument of perceptual relativity. First, he makes Hylas admit that we
can only sense sensible things, and that sensible things are nothing but groups of sensible qualities.
Hylas hesitates, but Philonous reassures him. Philonous gives a cherry as an example; a small, red,
sweet cluster, which in actuality could be something other than this. Philonous now introduces the
idea of pain and pleasure. Philonous explains that pain is mind dependant, meaning that pain cannot
exist if nobody is feeling it. The same goes with pleasure. Philonous then explains that this does not
only apply to pain and pleasure, but to any sensible quality. First, Philonous tries to relate heat with
pain. He says that inanimate objects cannot feel pain or pleasure; Matter is inanimate; Matter cannot
feel pain nor pleasure; heat is a form of pain; therefore matter is incapable of feeling heat; This means
heat is mind

The Character Of Iago In Shakespeare s Othello
The purpose of this case study is to examine Iago, specifically his actions, to diagnose him with
antisocial personality disorder. Iago is an extremely talented manipulator, and reveals this through his
plot against Othello in Shakespeare s tragedy, Othello. According to DSM 5, persons with antisocial
personality disorder exhibit actions that contradict laws, violate the well being of others, and lack
remorse. Additionally, persons with antisocial personality disorder are deceitful, impulsive, irritable,
aggressive, reckless, and irresponsible (American Psychiatric Association). Throughout the play, Iago
continuously exhibits many of these characteristics. Therefore, Iago is being diagnosed with antisocial
personality disorder because he manipulates others to obtain the things he wants and he provokes
actions of violence that disregard other s well being. Iago frequently uses deceitful and manipulative
actions to achieve his personal desires, leading to the diagnosis of antisocial personality disorder. In
Shakespeare s Othello, Iago s manipulative personality is displayed in his plot to get Cassio, Othello s
lieutenant, fired. Iago pressures Cassio to have a drink and Cassio gives in, resulting in Cassio
becoming drunk. Iago fooled Montano, the governor of Cyprus, into believing that Iago is an
alcoholic. He tells Montano, Tis evermore prologue to his sleep./He ll watch the prologue a double
set/If drink rock not his cradle (Shakespeare 2.3.134 136). Montano reports his

Bowel Cancer Prevention
Prevention of Bowel Cancer
Introduction
The bowel is a hollow tube within the digestive system composed of the small bowel (small intestine)
and large bowel (colon and rectum). Bowel cancer generally affects the large bowel, which absorbs
water from digested food and then produces waste (Cancer research UK, 2014). Bowel cancer, also
known as colorectal cancer, develops from uncontrollable cell division of polyps, pre cancerous
growth cells, which cause potential harm within the bowel (Bowel cancer UK, 2016). Bowel cancer is
treatable and curable if diagnosed early; nevertheless, by simply adopting healthier changes to your
lifestyle, two thirds of cases could be prevented (Cancer research UK, 2010).

The recommended weekly amount of cooked red meat (beef, lamb and pork) is 500 grams, though it is
advised that red meat and processed meat (bacon, ham and salami) is replaced with healthier
alternatives such as fish, poultry, soya and quorn. (Beating bowel cancer, 2016).
Conclusion
Based on hereditary, lifestyle and dietary factors discussed, bowel cancer can be prevented by taking
these preventative measures into strict consideration. Ultimately, living a healthy lifestyle will lead
towards a lower risk of this unwanted disease, likewise, bad lifestyle choices will significantly
increase the risk. Hence, taking precautions and adjusting lifestyle choices in a positive manner will
not only decrease the possibility of developing bowel cancer but consequently will improve the
quality of life, which is beneficial in the long

Early Christian Art
In Rome, the inception of Christianity was not embraced with open arms to say the least. This was
mainly due to Rome s emperors feeling threatened by the newly founded religion. Meetings between
Christians were prohibited, and the clergy were persecuted with much vigor. [Christians were]
considered to be a danger to the state.... (Shlosser 179) Since the religious practice of Christianity was
deemed illegal by officials, the use of symbols was essential when it came to not only signaling a
meeting place but also for the continuation of the religion. A fish is an example of one of the various
symbols adopted by Christians.
Introduction to Early Christian Art Some of the earliest Christian art discovered were frescos which
decorated the walls in various catacombs. These secluded areas were ...subterranean burial chambers

the catacombs are Orans and Christ the Good Shepherd. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After Christianity had become legalized in Rome, the position of the male in Orans would later on be
mirrored by Christ in the works that showcased his crucifixion. The heavenly figure presented upon a
crucifix was meant to showcase the symbolic statement of Christian redemption (Fiero 204). The
fresco Christ as Good Shepherd exhibits a reoccurring theme in Christianity. Jesus as the shepherd
watches over His flock of sheep which are supposed to symbolize humanity. The art piece presents
Jesus as our protector and savior. [The] catacombs, last used in the fifth century and accidentally
rediscovered in the sixteenth, are well known to contemporary tourists in Italy [now days]: [and] are

Different Theories Of Psychology, And Beliefs And...
Everyone has their own philosophy about the way we live our lives, and how we follow a certain path
to get to our destination. One s philosophy may be based on their religious beliefs, what they were
taught growing up, or both. I was raised Christian and many of the beliefs I have stems from my
Christian roots. I was always told God was the reason a person behaved a certain way or the devil.
Now that I am older, and mostly due to my college education, I see the world differently. Before
learning about the different theories in psychology, and the beliefs and techniques that come with
them, I had applied many to my own life before. I am spiritual and I believe that many people are born
with destinies. I believe we are all on a path predetermined for us and that we take many detours along
the way. If we take the wrong detour, whether it be days, months, or years, something drastic will
happen to get us back on the right path. When we make friends, they either work out, or something
awful happens that ends the friendship. Once the air has been cleared, one can realize that a certain
person was leading us down the wrong path. The way we live life is largely influenced by the
company we keep and our upbringing. I have friends who were born in corrupt neighborhoods to
parents who were on drugs and they went down the same trail as them. Their environment played a
large part in how they chose to live their lives. Some people have a biological predisposition for drugs,

Emile Durkheim Religion Inequality Analysis
Religion in people s lives has been a significant aspect that allows individuals to have an immense
faith on a higher being. This being, known as God for example, has given people beliefs and morals
that affect their social behavior. Although religious beliefs have led to conflicts, it has also led to a
sense of togetherness within different groups. It has created a bond among people who believe, as it is
explained by Emile Durkheim. As an institution, religion has also been seen by many, such as Karl
Marx, to be a tool used for class oppression.
Emile Durkheim saw religion as a functional institution that reaffirms social bonds between people.
As he explains in one of his works, A religion is a unified system of beliefs and practices relative ...

For him, religion can only be understood through economics. Religion it is only used as an excuse to
keep society functioning. If people rely on religion for peace and to forget their worries, they the next
day they are refreshed to continue with their work in society. It is stated in the Andersen textbook that,
religion is a form of false consciousness because it prevents people from rising up against oppression
(331). By promising a better tomorrow, inequality is more bearable. It may bring solace, but it is rather
a simple illusion. As Marx once explained, people are in distress and religion does provide solace, just
as people who are physically injured receive relief from opiate based drugs (Cline 1). However, the
opiate based drugs only provide temporary relief. It does not get rid of the actual problem, which in
this case is the suffering of inequality in a capitalist society.
Durkheim and Marx looked at religion as an institution. Religion is an institution that has had a
persistent impact in society. Both have studied religion and its effects on society. However, Durkheim
has a functionalist point of view, compared to Marx, who sees religion as a cause of conflict. A
functionalist point of view sees religion as a tool of cohesion. As a conflict, religion is only a tool of
oppression and provides a momentary relief that allows the continuation of class

Keurig Case Study
Keurig Case Study
I. Overview
Meaning excellence in Dutch, Keurig, was founded in 1990 by Peter Dragone and John Sylvan. The
founders were on a highly caffeinated mission to completely alter the coffee industry with the
underlying belief that coffee should be served fresh by the cup. They wanted to bring the gourmet
coffeehouse experience to both the home and the office. Dragone and Sylvan wished to not only make
this possible, but to do so in a satisfying, convenient and efficient way.
In 1998, Keurig released their first single serve brewing coffee machine. The machine could also serve
a cup of hot tea or hot cocoa. In 2006, Keurig merged with Green Mountain Coffee Roasters (GMCR),
which would later lead Keurig to becoming a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Porter s Five Forces
a) Threat of New Entrants
As competition in the single cup brewing market continues to increase, the barrier to entry remains
relatively low. This encourages competitors to enter the market. The competitors are aware that
creating a lower cost brewing machine that can brew coffee in the pod style (non patented) would give
them a competitive advantage over Keurig, whose products are considered quite expensive. Three
main competitors include Nestle, Starbucks, Kraft and Mars. All three companies have greater
financial, marketing and operating resources.
b) Bargaining Power of Suppliers
Keurig has a low concentration of suppliers, which therefore limits the bargaining power of these
suppliers.
c) Bargaining Power of Buyers
Buyers ultimately have more bargaining power than the suppliers. This is because Keurig will be more
interested in keeping consumers happy so that they can maintain relationships and brand loyalty. For
example, consumers can demand new flavors of coffee that fit their personal preference.
d) Threats of Substitute
The threat of substitutes is relatively low solely because of the fact that there is a limited number of
substitutes. Keurig is the top Single brewer coffee machine.
e) Intensity of Rivalry
Companies are more apt to work with Keurig in hopes of making K cups in their own coffee to be
used by the Keurig single cup brewer. This is more of an

What are the contributions of the previous government to the present system of government?
Looking back to the previous government systems in different periods in Philippine history, we can
see that our present government system is somehow shaped and patterned from the previous systems
that prevailed in our country. Pre historically we have seen how they established their government and
basically, we can say that it is far more primitive than the present system that we have. However, the
basic principles like the consultation of the datus to the elders can somehow be seen in the present by

In 1972, President Ferdinand E. Marcos (1965 86) declared martial law, citing growing lawlessness
and open rebellion by the communist rebels as his justification. Marcos governed from 1973 until mid
1981 in accordance with the transitory provisions of a new constitution that replaced the
commonwealth constitution of 1935. He suppressed democratic institutions and restricted civil
liberties during the martial law period, ruling largely by decree and popular referenda. The
government began a process of political normalization during 1978 81, culminating in the reelection
of President Marcos to a 6 year term that would have ended in 1987. The Marcos government s
respect for human rights remained low despite the end of martial law on January 17, 1981. His
government retained its wide arrest and detention powers. Corruption and favoritism contributed to a
serious decline in economic growth and development under Marcos.
The assassination of opposition leader Benigno (Ninoy) Aquino upon his return to the Philippines in
1983, after a long period of exile, coalesced popular dissatisfaction with Marcos and set in motion a
succession of events that culminated in a snap presidential election in February 1986. The opposition
united under Aquino s widow, Corazon Aquino, and Salvador Laurel, head of the United Nationalist
Democratic Organization (UNIDO). The election was marred by widespread electoral fraud on the
part of Marcos and his supporters.

According to fair trade standards, most products have a fair trade price, which is the minimum that
should be paid to the producers for their goods. This fair trade minimum price (FTMP) is intended to
cover the average producers costs of sustainable production (COSP) per product. If global or regional
minimum prices are determined, otherwise national prices are set. Producers or workers (in the case of
hired labour situations) of fair trade products also receive a fair trade premiums(FTP) in addition to
the minimum price. The determination of a minimum price may involve the determination of the
related premium (Andreas Kratz, 2010).

The Role Of Animals In Egyptian Mythology
According to the ancient myth, Seth ruled over the Upper Egypt, while Horus ruled over the Lower
Egypt. There are also other gods in Egyptian mythology that possess the animalistic appearance. Some
of the most well known examples are: Anubis, the god of embalming and the dead, Thoth, the god of
writing and knowledge, Sobek, the god of the Nile, Bastet, the protective goddess and many other
gods. All of these gods have their animal forms and manifestation, their significance was closely
connected to animals they stood for. Actually, the animal they represented was determining the
characteristics of a certain deity, for example, the birds such as hawk or ibis were often considered the
symbol of wisdom and protection. Horus, for instance, was often listed as the protective god of the
Egyptians, the one who protects the pharaoh, and he possesses the head of the hawk. ... Show more

eye that Ra had lost, and as a reward he received the power over the night sky, that is, the moon. It
was believed that he carried the moon in his boat and transported the dead to the underworld. Later on,
Thoth received a number of other functions, became the god of time and was considered the founder

Understanding And Managing The Generational Gap
Understanding and Managing the Generational Gap Julie Boyer Professor Crystal O Brien BUSN 105
26 November, 2016
Understanding and Managing the Generational Gap The workforce is seeing up to five generations
working together for the first time in history. People are choosing to work longer and delay retirement.
Ultimately, the workforce could experience up to six generations working together. It s the role of
business leaders to embrace diversity and guide their teams to cohesion. Generational gaps can pose
challenges in the workplace, but understanding each generation s unique characteristics and skills sets
will assist in effectively managing diversity to keep a peaceful coexistence. The current generations in
the workplace today are Traditionalists, Baby Boomers, Generation X, Millennials, and Generation Z.
Each generation brings their own values and mindsets to the mix. Although genetics play a part in a
person s characteristics, the generation in which someone is born into also plays an integral part in
shaping their mind, values, goals, and work ethics. People from the same generation share similar
experiences, and this can influence how they think politically and socially. The task at hand is for
management to understand each generation s strengths and weaknesses, and

Common Sense Explanations And The Explanations Of C....
In this essay I will be exploring the differences between common sense explanations and the
explanations of C. Wright Mills theory of The Sociological Imagination. Common sense is based on
people s personal experiences and their opinions, very often constructed from social norms and
generalised views. Whereas, the Sociological Imagination thought up by sociologist C. Wright Mills
(1959) is based on the ideas of thinking critically and skeptically, in order to think sociologically. He
wrote that in order to do this, we have to understand and grasp the link between current society and
history, personal troubles and public issues. There are three main parts to Sociological Imagination:
social structure, biography and history. In this essay I will set forth the ways in which each of these
approaches would explain the topic of sexuality. I consider sexuality to be an umbrella term for
various features, including sexual orientation, sexual activity, masculinity/femininity and gender roles.
Each of which will be looked at in this essay in order to explore the topic of sexuality in relation to
common sense and the Sociological Imagination.
Sexual orientation is commonly viewed as the term to describe an individual s attraction for others;
who they want to have sex with. This sexual attraction is what s commonly considered to be the
representative of their sexuality. The common sense approach to sexual orientation is well educated on
heterosexuality and the LGBT community. LGBT

Application Of Temporary Magnet Generators For Wind Systems
Introduction
Permanent Magnet Generators for wind systems are an integral part of the overall system, converting
the mechanical energy from the turbine into electrical energy. But since wind is an inconsistent source
of power, the generator must be able to adapt itself to power fluctuations, such as excess or shortage of
load. Furthermore, standalone wind systems are provided with batteries which must be kept charged
under all conditions when the power is available. Thus, a controller is necessary for wind generator to
adapt itself to these fluctuations.
A standalone wind system is composed of the following components: Turbine and tower Charge

The micro controller will be used for sensing the battery voltage and the generator voltage and then
switch on/off the DC loads accordingly. The top priority task is charging the battery, so it is given the
first preference. After that, the additional power is used for loads. The switches on the load side are
implemented using MOSFETs and the switches for connecting/disconnecting the battery are
implemented using relays.
Controlling the generator over speed is done by shorting the stator on the AC side of the rectifier. Two
relays, connected across the three phases of the generator are turned on/off by the same signal from
the microcontroller.
Using a resistive voltage divider configuration, the generator s voltage and the battery voltage are
monitored through the ADC of the ATmega8 microcontroller. The voltage divider configuration
converts the full range of the generator voltage and the battery voltage to 0 5 V range. The output from
this voltage divider configuration is then fed to the in built ADC available inside the ATmega8 micro
controller.

Abusing animals is not acceptable and it is most definitely inexcusable. Laws and consequences that
are more harsh should be put into place. Why should animals be treated differently? A human that
abuses an animal badly on purpose, should be considered dangerous. If a person cannot act humanely
towards an animal, then in reality, what s to stop them from acting like that towards a human? A
person who abuses an animal is dangerous to humans and animals alike. Another valid reason to make
more harsher consequences is simple. Say a person does serve his/her time in jail or pays the fine.
Sure they will not be allowed to own an animal, but what s to stop them from abusing an animal
again? There should be a rule in place where your on protocol and have people supervising the person
to make sure that they will not abuse an animal again. Or say if they did abuse an animal again, the
fine and jail time should triple or double, the person should be put into a course about animal abuse
and how to treat an animal, and how bad of pain the animal goes through during abuse. Abusing an
animal is like abusing a child, the child is defenseless and can not do anything to stop it. That is the
same thing with an animal. What can an animal do to defend itself? Run and hide? Maybe try to bite
or scratch? Other than that the animal is completely defenseless.

Andy Warhol Accomplishments
When considering the life and works of Andy Warhol, one thing is agreed upon for good or bad, he
changed the visual construction of the world we live in. His window advertisements were the
beginning of an era, where art would be seen in an array of forms away from the traditional paintings
and sculptures of the old world. He made people see everyday material objects in a whole new light;
through Pop Art he could transform mundane into extraordinary. He was a working man, a social
climber, a builder, an acquirer of goods, and a known homosexual. These attributes all contributed to
the interesting and complicated nature of his art. One of the most significant decades in 20th century
art, the 1960s saw the rise of Pop Art, Op Art, Minimalism, Conceptual Art, Performance Art, and
Feminist Art, among countless other styles and movements. Artists began to notice that American
culture was filled with commercial images: on television and billboards, and in magazines and
newspapers, commercial art was used to sell everything from dish scrubbers to soup cans to cars to
movie stars and their movies. Pop artists used commercial art techniques to create new artistic forms.

gives us twenty five. Perhaps he wants us to consider our obsession with celebrities, or to suggest that
more is always better, especially in the case of a celebrity with an already ubiquitous image. Either
way, Andy Warhol was able to alter the way people saw Monroe, through imperfect repetition, he
delivered a more human aspect to the overly glorified

The Theme Of Duality In The Lifted Veil By George Eliot
Published in 1859, The lifted Veil by George Eliot is an enthralling and complex tale of the
supernatural. George Eliot, actually Mary Anne Evans by birth, was a leading novelist, editor, and
critic of the Victorian era who went by a pen name, so she could write freely without the pressures of
following the conventions of female writers. The short story she wrote is set predominantly in
England and revolves around the conflicts that Latimer, the second son of a wealthy middle class
banker, experiences during the course of his life both ordinary and extraordinary. The most notable
element of the story is the emergence of Latimer s superadded awareness which allows him both the
ability to read the minds of others who are nearby and to experience highly detailed visions of the
future. This mental power creates a multitude of unusual conflicts which Eliot uses to characterize
Latimer and his split conscious through her employment of duality in the story. The theme of duality
manifests itself early in the story providing foreshadowing for Latimer s future supernatural ability.
During childhood, Latimer was regarded as a very sensitive child (Eliot 5) not displaying the typical
hardy qualities typical of a male. When young Latimer witnessed the loud noises of his father s estate
like the trampling of the horses on the pavement in the echoing stables (Eliot 5) or the booming bark
of the dogs (Eliot 5), he reacted in a dual nature experiencing both a mingled trepidation and delicious
excitement (Eliot 5). This strange mix of fear and joy felt by Latimer highlights the odd aspect of
Latimer s character in which he struggles between which side of the metaphorical heads or tails of a
coin he desires. The passage also accentuates the delicate quality of his mind that allows for his dual
consciousness to emerge later in the story by mentioning that the loud noises made me sob and
tremble ... I longed for them to come back again (Eliot 5). Latimer s powerful attunement with even
the most ordinary of loud sounds reveals a supernatural element about him that hungers for
stimulation. As Latimer reaches the age of sixteen, he is sent by his father to Geneva to continue his
rational studies abroad. There

Building An Information Technology And Information Systems
Introduction
Over the period of time due to the establishment of an information technology and information
systems, enterprises have experienced a constant increase in their size, scope and complexity. So
functional or logical construction and model representations are needed to manage and organize.
In 1990 s and earlier, a lot of Enterprise Architecture (EA) emerged out of IT function. It is very much
about dealing with problems of the day to day. We have real world IT systems which do not
interoperate with each other or share information. So, there is a lack of focus on IT integration and
interoperability.
In 2000 s and to till date, enterprises shifted to be business focused on Enterprise Architecture.
However there are a lot of middleware and tools that helps us to keep things communicating to each
other and making a seamless interoperation. Hence, the focus is now changed more on to the business
architecture.
It is very much important to start up the business architecture aspects with enabling the business
changes or transformations within an organization; it is which EA aims to. EA framework is all about
conceptualizing the strategic business decisions.
Generally EA focuses on increasing revenue or profits of the enterprise, managing business
transformation activities, identifying the consolidated areas for cost reduction and so on.

Enterprise Architecture (EA) is a process of describing the structure and behavior of an enterprise

Analysis Of O Brother Where Art Thou
Two Journeys One Tale
The Odyssey is an eight century epic by Homer which depicts the journey of Odysseus as he attempts
to return to his home at Ithaka after the fall of Troy. During his travels, Odysseus faced many
obstacles whom he had to overcome. In order to do so, Odysseus had to prove his intellectual capacity,
strength and determination. O Brother Where Art Thou is a 2000 adventure film which follows the
journey of a man named Ulysses Everett McGill as he attempts to make his way back home with two
fellow convicts after escaping prison. Although it lacks the structure and does not follow sequence of
events of the odyssey, the film portrays many of the fundamental concepts and ideas explored in The
Odyssey. In this paper, I will explore the themes of the power of cunning over strength, temptation and
vengeance in the Odyssey, in order to depict how they are portrayed in the film O Brother Where Art
Thou and demonstrate the similarities in both tales.
First, one of the recurring themes in the Odyssey is that of cunningness over strength. Although
Odysseus was known to be a strong and powerful of individual, his cunning was his strongest asset
when it came to overcoming the obstacles in his travels. Instead of relying solely on his strength, he
relies on his minds ability to deceive and manipulate individuals to do as he pleases. An example of
this is seen when Odysseus with the help of Athena disguises himself as an old beggar. Instead of
simply going to his home

DBQ on Han and Roman attitudes toward technology
The Han dynasty and Roman empire lasted through periods of enlightenment where new ideas and
concepts were brought up. Although in slightly different time periods, the Han and Romans both
experienced an influx of new technology that changed their ways of life. The Han s attitude toward
technology and labor was very open and optimistic. On the other hand, the Roman attitude towards
technology and labor was relatively more strict and they didn t really see technology as something
enlightened .
The Han Dynasty viewed technology as essential in various ways. Documents 1 and 2 show how
technology is an essential thing and that although it is great, government intervening must take place
to assure everything goes to plan. Document 1 mentions some organization and order that s needed to
make sure everything works, and document 2 mentions how the workers are using crude brittle tools
and need to get new tools that are in good condition so they can work more efficiently. Both of these
documents may have a slight bias considering both of them are written by Han government officials
and they might want to get higher positions and this may influence their writings. It was interesting

The Monkey s Paw Character Analysis
The Monkey s Paw by W. W. Jacobs and The Third Wish by Joan Aiken are similar stories because of
their characters, and contrasting stories because of the wishes. The characters both receive wishes in a
similar way, but the main characters use their wishes in different ways. First, I will be comparing the
ways the main characters receive their wishes. In The Monkey s Paw Mr. White receives his wishes
from Sergeant Major Morris, who sells The Monkey s Paw to Mr. White. Sergeant Major Morris
warns Mr. White about the paw and says the first person wished for death on their third wish. In The
Third Wish Mr. Peters was driving his car at dusk, hearing a faint cry, so he stops his car. Then he
enters the woods beside him to investigate the noise, finding a white swan trapped in a thorny bush,
and Mr. Peters decides to rescue the swan, but it pecks and hisses at him. Eventually Mr. Peters saves
the swan and it floats away, but then a little man wearing green clothes and a golden crown appears
and grants Mr. Peters 3 wishes. Next, I will be contrasting the differences between the way the
characters use their wishes. I think Mr. White uses his wishes in a curious kind of way because he isn t
really sure whether The Monkey s Paw is real or fake. First Mr. White wishes for 200 pounds, and isn
t taking the paw seriously, so consequences are his son dies in a machinery ... Show more content on

  • 2. T-Lymphotropic Virus, Kaposi s Sarcoma Viral Oncology is the study of virus caused cancers. These cancers include Adult T cell Leukemia, Kaposi s Sarcoma, Cervical Carcinoma, Hepatocellular Carcinoma, and Burkitt s Lymphoma. Viruses that can cause cancer are known as oncoviruses. Known oncoviruses are: Hepatitis B and C (HBV and HCV, respectively), Human T Lymphotropic Virus (HTLV I), Human papillomavirus (HPV), Kaposi s Sarcoma Associated Herpesvirus (HHV 8), and Epstein Barr Virus (EBV). Viruses, after entering a host cell, integrates its genome with the host cell s DNA using the enzyme reverse transcriptase. During normal DNA replication, the virus genome will be replicated to produce more viral particles. During this process, host cell genes can be triggered by viral genes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The cancer is usually seen in HIV positive patients because HIV weakens the immune system, making the infected susceptible to uncommon or rare pathogens. Kaposi sarcoma (KS) is a cancer that develops from the cells that line lymph or blood vessels. It usually appears as tumors on the skin or on mucosal surfaces such as inside the mouth, but tumors can also develop in other parts of the body, such as in the lymph nodes (bean sized collections of immune cells throughout the body), the lungs, or digestive tract. KS can cause serious problems or even become life threatening when the lesions are in the lungs, liver, or digestive tract. KS in the digestive tract, for example, can cause bleeding, while tumors in the lungs may cause trouble breathing. A person infected with HIV (that is, who is HIV positive) does not necessarily have AIDS. The virus can be present in the body for a long time, often many years, before causing major illness. The disease known as AIDS begins when the virus has seriously damaged the immune system, which results in certain types of infections or other medical complications, including KS. When HIV damages the immune system, people who also are infected with a certain virus (the Kaposi sarcoma associated herpes virus or KSHV) are more likely to develop ... • 3. Social Phobia Or Social Anxiety Disorder Social phobia or social anxiety disorder (SAD), and Avoidant personality disorder (AVPD) are both characterized by having significant interference in social situations. This essay will focus on a cognitive view to explain the similarities and differences between them. Lifetime prevalence of SAD fall between 5% 13% (Furmark, 2002; Grant et al., 2005), and 0.5% 5% for AVPD (Torgersen, Kringlen, Cramer, 2001; and Grant, Stinson, Dawson, Chou, Ruan, 2005) (as cited in Hummelen, Wilberg, Pederson, Karterud, 2007, p. 348). Cox, Pagura, Stein, and Sareen, (2009) have found high co occurrences between SAD and AVPD (36.4%) and it has been questioned whether the two disorders are the same with different levels of severity. Further support ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also, a key criterion indicates that the reaction must also be out of proportion to the actual situation. An AVPD individual may exhibit anxious related behaviours because of their negative mindset, but this is not a key feature for diagnosis. The distinction between both disorders are the emphasis of fear of the social situation (SAD), compared to the fear of being negatively evaluated by others (AVPD). Hirsch and Clark (2004) suggests that individuals with social phobia (SP) experience information processing bias meaning they experience social situations differently. Individuals with SAD were more self critical, had negative expectations, and better at recognizing negative expressions on faces (Hirsch Clark, 2004). When anticipating a social interaction, SAD individuals recalled more negative and less positive traits about themselves (Hirsch Clark, 2004). This can explain their fear, and anxiety, because they were afraid their actions would be negatively evaluated by others (e.g. if they forgot, or stumbled over their lines during a presentation causing embarrassment). On the other hand, AVPD individuals avoid social situations because of their dysfunctional way of thinking. They hold very negative evaluations of themselves that they are socially inadequate and unlikeable (Beck et al., 2001). Thus, they expect others to reject them. For example, AVPD individuals were more likely to agree with following statement ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Mary Wigman Isadora Duncan and Mary Wigman both started with the same idea of dancing, and how they should incorporate human movement instead of ballet that was more unnatural to the body. Even though they had a similar thought about modern dance, they had one thing that made them very different, which was their choreography. Duncan pieces were lively and upbeat, and Wigmans were dark and mysterious. They both approached modern dance through a different eye. Even if they lived in two different parts of the world, The American, as represented by Isadora Duncan, and the German, as represented by Mary Wigman, (Cass 247), the world would then get two different choreographers that were evolving at the same time in history, which impacted the dance history. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She was down rooted to the earth; dark images, death, witches, and war inspired her. She used heavy and tense percussion or silence. A few of her choreographies got the chance to be filmed, her dances looked as if it was improvisational but her pieces were set and stone and made up before performed. One of the works that basically describes Wigman as a whole is the Witches Dance Its a burlesque play of bodies, limbs, and heads. At first a crowded, tangled heap, it starts vibrating slowly in ever increasing elastic and shaking movements, dissolves and darts out to the floor in somersaults and grotesque jumps... The demon in the human who had worn a tragic mask in so many of Mary Wigman s dances now wore a comical mask, as if his dark and dangerous power had been conquered, (Stewart and Armitage 13 14). Once you go in deeper into why Wigmans pieces are so different compared to Duncan you start looking at the bigger picture of how Germany was doing at the time, with the whole World War I (1914 1918) and the beginning of Hitler s upraise in the 1930 s leading to World War II (1939 1945) this was all during the time frame of Wigmans life. Knowing that these two important figures both created dances and created a new thing at the time called modern makes them quite extraordinary, because they both loved modern dancing, they both created a living off of it, yet they were in different parts ... Westerners are blinded by cultural mockery and cultural appropriation without realizing its offensive effects to minority groups. During the Halloween holiday, in Western culture, people of all ages dress up in a variety of costumes such as horror themed, fairy tale themed, job themed, cultural themed and much more. Harvard University members have argued that a cultural themed costume is a form of cultural appropriation. Also in Western culture, in the music industry, white artists have utilized and exploited aspects from minority cultures to boost their fame. Costumes, props, ideas, music, and others considered as cultural appropriation is often overlooked but it is apparent when closely examined. In countries that celebrate Halloween such as the United States and Canada, it is a tradition to dress up in various types of costume themes. Some people dress up in cultural costumes or religious costumes. Herman Bhupal and Judy Park from Harvard University have addressed that dressing in cultural or religious costumes for Halloween, can serve as mechanisms for cultural appropriation (This Halloween, Choose Respect). Cultural appropriation is the adoption of standards and aspects from another culture when the culture is a minority group. Studies have shown that these kinds of devices can save on annual energy costs by 40 percent . 2. Powered Window Actuators: We have them in cars, so why not in buildings? Taking measurements of various conditions inside and outside a building, such as wind speed, dust particulate volume, and temperature levels, sensors can be programmed to open vents automatically at various positions to suit specific conditions. These devices are cost effective, as a single sensor can control a number of vents. Window actuators allow a machine based approach to open windows when conditions are ideal or when the building s design prevents human access to hard to reach vents. By introducing a simple device with a programmed algorithm, the efficiency of the HVAC system can be instantly improved. 3. Monsoon Windows: For office buildings in the tropics, windows have to be closed when it rains heavily, which results in shutting off airflow. With monsoon windows , a rain sensor closes windows when it rains, however there is still airflow into the interior. 4. Full fresh air mode: just like with cars where one can turn off the AC and have the fan on outside air mode left on, the mechanical systems in offices can be designed to have a full fresh air mode. The windows can of course be left open to flush out internal heat gains and humidity. 5. They are considered to be universal, inalienable and inherent in all people. This means it has no single piece of documentation dedicated to the protection of Human Rights. Instead, rights may be recognised by the constitution, by common law or by Australian Legislation. While people in immigration detention may be able to seek judicial review of their detention, Australian courts have no authority to order that a person be released from immigration detention on the grounds that the person s detention is arbitrary. Philonous is surprised to see Hylas awake so early, but Hylas seems mad. Hylas explains that he has been contemplating over crazy beliefs that some philosophers have; those who believe nothing at all, and those who believe everything. Hylas is scared that the philosophers will put thoughts in people s heads, eventually turning them against their own religion and beliefs. Philonous agrees with Hylas and explains how doesn t follow what he learned in school, rather he embraces common sense opinions. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Philonous now begins to explain how materialism can lead to skepticism. Philonous must now explain that there is no reason to believe in mind independent reality. Philonous introduces the argument from pleasure and pain as well as the argument of perceptual relativity. Philonous gives a cherry as an example; a small, red, sweet cluster, which in actuality could be something other than this. Philonous now introduces the idea of pain and pleasure. Philonous explains that pain is mind dependant, meaning that pain cannot exist if nobody is feeling it. The same goes with pleasure. Philonous then explains that this does not only apply to pain and pleasure, but to any sensible quality. First, Philonous tries to relate heat with pain. • 11. The Character Of Iago In Shakespeare s Othello The purpose of this case study is to examine Iago, specifically his actions, to diagnose him with antisocial personality disorder. Iago is an extremely talented manipulator, and reveals this through his plot against Othello in Shakespeare s tragedy, Othello. According to DSM 5, persons with antisocial personality disorder exhibit actions that contradict laws, violate the well being of others, and lack remorse. Additionally, persons with antisocial personality disorder are deceitful, impulsive, irritable, aggressive, reckless, and irresponsible (American Psychiatric Association). Throughout the play, Iago continuously exhibits many of these characteristics. Therefore, Iago is being diagnosed with antisocial personality disorder because he manipulates others to obtain the things he wants and he provokes actions of violence that disregard other s well being. Iago frequently uses deceitful and manipulative actions to achieve his personal desires, leading to the diagnosis of antisocial personality disorder. In Shakespeare s Othello, Iago s manipulative personality is displayed in his plot to get Cassio, Othello s lieutenant, fired. Iago pressures Cassio to have a drink and Cassio gives in, resulting in Cassio becoming drunk. Iago fooled Montano, the governor of Cyprus, into believing that Iago is an alcoholic. He tells Montano, Tis evermore prologue to his sleep./He ll watch the prologue a double set/If drink rock not his cradle (Shakespeare 2.3.134 136). Montano reports his ... One s philosophy may be based on their religious beliefs, what they were taught growing up, or both. I was raised Christian and many of the beliefs I have stems from my Christian roots. I was always told God was the reason a person behaved a certain way or the devil. Now that I am older, and mostly due to my college education, I see the world differently. Before learning about the different theories in psychology, and the beliefs and techniques that come with them, I had applied many to my own life before. Whereas, the Sociological Imagination thought up by sociologist C. Wright Mills (1959) is based on the ideas of thinking critically and skeptically, in order to think sociologically. He wrote that in order to do this, we have to understand and grasp the link between current society and history, personal troubles and public issues. There are three main parts to Sociological Imagination: social structure, biography and history. In this essay I will set forth the ways in which each of these approaches would explain the topic of sexuality. I consider sexuality to be an umbrella term for various features, including sexual orientation, sexual activity, masculinity/femininity and gender roles. Each of which will be looked at in this essay in order to explore the topic of sexuality in relation to common sense and the Sociological Imagination. • 27. The Theme Of Duality In The Lifted Veil By George Eliot Published in 1859, The lifted Veil by George Eliot is an enthralling and complex tale of the supernatural. George Eliot, actually Mary Anne Evans by birth, was a leading novelist, editor, and critic of the Victorian era who went by a pen name, so she could write freely without the pressures of following the conventions of female writers. The short story she wrote is set predominantly in England and revolves around the conflicts that Latimer, the second son of a wealthy middle class banker, experiences during the course of his life both ordinary and extraordinary. The most notable element of the story is the emergence of Latimer s superadded awareness which allows him both the ability to read the minds of others who are nearby and to experience highly detailed visions of the future. This mental power creates a multitude of unusual conflicts which Eliot uses to characterize Latimer and his split conscious through her employment of duality in the story. The theme of duality manifests itself early in the story providing foreshadowing for Latimer s future supernatural ability. During childhood, Latimer was regarded as a very sensitive child (Eliot 5) not displaying the typical hardy qualities typical of a male. When young Latimer witnessed the loud noises of his father s estate like the trampling of the horses on the pavement in the echoing stables (Eliot 5) or the booming bark of the dogs (Eliot 5), he reacted in a dual nature experiencing both a mingled trepidation and delicious excitement (Eliot 5). This strange mix of fear and joy felt by Latimer highlights the odd aspect of Latimer s character in which he struggles between which side of the metaphorical heads or tails of a coin he desires. The passage also accentuates the delicate quality of his mind that allows for his dual consciousness to emerge later in the story by mentioning that the loud noises made me sob and tremble ... I longed for them to come back again (Eliot 5). Latimer s powerful attunement with even the most ordinary of loud sounds reveals a supernatural element about him that hungers for stimulation. Also knowing that Christopher is autistic, I will represent some sounds with the symbol sound , I will repeat some phrases, and quote others from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. The Conflict Man In The Chaser By John Collier In the short story The Chaser By John Collier the conflict man vs. man affects many different characters in different ways. Firstly, the conflict with Alan and Diana affects Alan by making him feel unloved. To demonstrate this Collier writes She will actually be jealous? cried Alan in a rapture. Of me? (Collier 2) Alan was so blown away by the effects of this potion and he so excited to be loved by Diana, even though it would not be real. Next, the same conflict with Alan and Diana affects the old man in a good way, the old man gets to gain some money because the old man believes that Alan would be back. To tell Alan in a non obvious way that he would be seeing him again, the old man says au revoir (Collier 3). In French, au revoir ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Compare And Contrast Han And Roman Attitude Towards... DBQ on Han and Roman attitudes toward technology The Han dynasty and Roman empire lasted through periods of enlightenment where new ideas and concepts were brought up. Although in slightly different time periods, the Han and Romans both experienced an influx of new technology that changed their ways of life. The Han s attitude toward technology and labor was very open and optimistic. On the other hand, the Roman attitude towards technology and labor was relatively more strict and they didn t really see technology as something enlightened . The Han Dynasty viewed technology as essential in various ways. Documents 1 and 2 show how technology is an essential thing and that although it is great, government intervening must take place to assure everything goes to plan. Document 1 mentions some organization and order that s needed to make sure everything works, and document 2 mentions how the workers are using crude brittle tools and need to get new tools that are in good condition so they can work more efficiently. Both of these documents may have a slight bias considering both of them are written by Han government officials and they might want to get higher positions and this may influence their writings. It was interesting that in document ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There should be an additional document or two showing the viewpoints of the workers, it would only be fair. We are only seeing the views and opinions from the upper classes and the workers from the Han Dynasty or Roman empire might have completely different views, and they most likely will because they are the ones actually working, while the upper class isn t. This new technology can be impacting the workers economically, socially or in various other ways that we don t currently ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. The Monkey s Paw Character Analysis The Monkey s Paw by W. W. Jacobs and The Third Wish by Joan Aiken are similar stories because of their characters, and contrasting stories because of the wishes. The characters both receive wishes in a similar way, but the main characters use their wishes in different ways. First, I will be comparing the ways the main characters receive their wishes. In The Monkey s Paw Mr. White receives his wishes from Sergeant Major Morris, who sells The Monkey s Paw to Mr. White. Sergeant Major Morris warns Mr. White about the paw and says the first person wished for death on their third wish. In The Third Wish Mr. Peters was driving his car at dusk, hearing a faint cry, so he stops his car. Then he enters the woods beside him to investigate the noise, finding a white swan trapped in a thorny bush, and Mr. Peters decides to rescue the swan, but it pecks and hisses at him. Eventually Mr. Peters saves the swan and it floats away, but then a little man wearing green clothes and a golden crown appears and grants Mr. Peters 3 wishes. Next, I will be contrasting the differences between the way the characters use their wishes. I think Mr. White uses his wishes in a curious kind of way because he isn t really sure whether The Monkey s Paw is real or fake. First Mr. White wishes for 200 pounds, and isn t taking the paw seriously, so consequences are his son dies in a machinery ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One life lesson I learned from The Monkey s Paw is you should always consider the consequences of your actions. A life lesson I learned from The Third Wish is you should always prepare for the worst, but hope for the best, like how Mr. Peters saved his last wish until his death, which shows how he was prepared if something bad was to happen, so he could use the last wish. Finally, I enjoyed reading both of the stories, but I liked The Third Wish ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
