This document discusses constructivism and digital storytelling methods. It provides background on constructivist learning theories including Dewey's view that learning is student-centered and experience-based. It also discusses the neuroscience view that attention, generation, emotion and spacing are key to embedding new ideas. Project-based learning is described as integrating knowledge and skills to solve authentic problems. The document then presents examples of applying constructivist methods including a K-5 art lesson, an UNESCO digital storytelling case, and a college sociology human rights lesson. Resources and frameworks for constructivist instructional design are also referenced.

Massive Sustainable Learning SDGs for 2016 Global Education Conference richar...Chrysalis Campaign, Inc.
Massive, Self-Sustainable Collaborative Learning. The unabridged version of UN HQ session on Education and Sustainable Development Goals SDGs presented 2/2016.
Full Session Description (as long as you would like):
This is an expanded version of the SDG and Education session presented at Sustainable Development Goals SDGs in the UN HQ. The unabridged version includes many of the issues, and heated complaints, brought in discussions after the session. Many of the issues focused around the sanitization of culture out of curriculum when culture is a driving force to learn and build communities.
The session provides a series of cases on how massive global collaborative learning events impact the work both in global reach (breadth) and (depth) in transformation perception and technology.
The session also covers massive cultural learning transformations in relation to poverty and self-perception. The US is used as a case of a poor colonial nation and becuase of learning events evoluted into a massive inventive force. In addition how massive learning events such as the Novel and Microsoft certification programs people entrenched markets, such as IBM’s computer monopoly.
These global learning events, such as Microsoft Cloud cell phone banking, create grounds for massive shifts in both how and what we learn.
This is relevant for a global educators to grasp because key student motivators are latent within the classroom on massive shifts.
UN SDGs is also a great framework for a student on becoming global social citizens.

The course explores colonialism transformation in modern globalization through the use of media and collaborative class experience. It is a digital storytelling course.
The curriculum leverages the 31 UN human rights as a digital storytelling program. Youthforhumanrights.org. Perhaps now with the state of global human rights infractions making students feel helpless it is as timely as ever. The session will cover some information on the UN SDG talk.

Learning Outcomes
This week students will:
1. Construct a 21st century inquiry-based learning activity that includes differentiated instructional strategies and learning styles as part of the instructional methods.
2. Design a content-based activity that includes self-reflection and shared feedback opportunities for students.
Introduction
In Week Four, you build upon your learning from the first three weeks by considering elements of capacity building for educators. You look through a variety of lenses, supporting Course Learning Outcome 2: Use a variety of content-based instructional materials and strategies supporting inquiry-based learning, student reflection, and technology. You get an inspiring glimpse into the world of an engaging classroom teacher and learn of the powerful impact your practice as an educator can have on student learning. This week, you apply the principles from Framework for 21st Century Learning to create an engaging, inquiry-based student activity to implement with students and share with other educators. You have the opportunity to get creative and apply what you’ve learned in a way that follows best practices and potentially transfers to your own practice in the future.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
This slide is special for master students (MIBS & MIFB) in UUM. Also useful for readers who are interested in the topic of contemporary Islamic banking.

2. Constructivism in Instructional Design
Dewey View
"The teacher is not in the school to impose certain
ideas or to form certain habits in the child, but is
there as a member of the community to select the
influences which shall affect the child and to
assist him in properly responding to these.......I
believe, therefore, in the so-called expressive or
constructive activities as the centre of correlation."
John Dewey, Education and Experience,
1938/1997. New York. Touchstone.
3. Constructivism in Instructional Design
Neuroscience View
Rock (2014) suggests the research points to four must-haves to embed new
ideas:
1. Attention has to be very high; multitasking dramatically reduces recall. The
chemical processes to encode memories only activate when we’re very
focused,
2. People need to Generate their own mental maps around new ideas. They
can’t just watch or listen; effort is central,
3. Emotions need to be high; learners only remember things they feel strongly
about,
4. People grow their memories, so Spacing out learning is critical’.
These four elements, attention, generation, emotion and spacing, form the
Neuroscience Institute AGES model. Rock (2014), believes that high AGES are
necessary for people to recall ideas, but when AGES domains are low, idea recall
will be poor. Rock (2014), further advocates that designing learning programs
must begin with a focus on the brain, take each of the AGES points into account,
and then getting creative on how to execute the learning intervention.
UNESCO “I am Africa. This is my story… project
4. Constructivism in Instructional Design
PBL View
Thomas Markham (2011) describes project-based learning (PBL)
thus: "PBL integrates knowing and doing. Students learn
knowledge and elements of the core curriculum, but also apply
what they know to solve authentic problems and produce results
that matter. PBL students take advantage of digital tools to produce
high quality, collaborative products. PBL refocuses education on
the student, not the curriculum--a shift mandated by the global
world, which rewards intangible assets such as drive, passion,
creativity, empathy, and resiliency. These cannot be taught out of a
textbook, but must be activated through experience.”
