Evaporation is the process where a liquid turns into a gas due to an increase in temperature. It is a key part of the water cycle. Children will be taught that evaporation occurs as some water molecules gain enough heat energy to escape into the air from a glass of water. A practical demonstration will show water molecules entering the air while more leave the water as long as the air is less than 100% relative humidity, transferring water to the air. Evaporation occurs daily in nature and human environments and is important in the oceans and global water cycle.
