Competition Essay
Writing an essay on the topic of competition can be quite challenging, as it requires a thoughtful
exploration of various aspects related to this broad subject. The difficulty arises from the need to
strike a balance between providing a comprehensive overview and delving into specific details.
Firstly, one must grapple with the multifaceted nature of competition. It spans various domains,
including business, sports, academics, and even personal relationships. Narrowing down the
focus while still capturing the essence of competition in its entirety can be a daunting task.
Moreover, conveying a unique perspective on the topic is essential to avoid presenting a generic,
clichГ©d essay. Finding an original angle requires extensive research and critical thinking to
uncover insights that go beyond the obvious. This demands a thorough exploration of both
historical and contemporary examples, adding layers of complexity to the writing process.
Crafting a compelling thesis statement is another hurdle. It must encapsulate the main argument
while leaving room for the nuanced exploration of subtopics. Striking the right tone is crucial
– the essay should be analytical and informative, yet engaging enough to hold the reader's
attention.
Additionally, ensuring a logical flow of ideas poses its own set of challenges. Transitioning
seamlessly between paragraphs and maintaining coherence throughout the essay requires careful
planning and organization. Juggling between providing evidence, analysis, and personal
reflections can be intricate, demanding a skillful blend to create a cohesive narrative.
Furthermore, the essay should not only present a balanced view of competition but also address
potential counterarguments. This requires anticipating opposing perspectives and crafting a
persuasive response, adding an extra layer of complexity to the writing process.
In conclusion, tackling a competition essay involves navigating through a maze of ideas,
perspectives, and arguments. It demands a careful balance between depth and breadth,
originality and coherence. While the process may be challenging, it ultimately provides an
opportunity for personal growth and a deeper understanding of the subject matter.

US Army Motivates Employees
Every company must motivate their employees to ensure the maximum performance
is achieved out of each employee for the company and employee long term success.
In this essay, I will focus on three ways that the US Army motivates employees. The
programs include the Awards Program, Counseling, and the Uniform Code of Military
Justice (UCMJ). In the military and in the civilian sector the ultimate goal is for
employees to be happy as they perform their daily duties and make the most profit
for the company. It s hard to get top performance out of people who don t enjoy
coming to work. For these reason Companies utilized many forms of motivating
employees to ensure the ultimate goal is achieved, increase and maintain profit. Walt

Not all motivators have to be rewards and incentives. Fear of punishment is
definitively a motivator to perform well or at least perform to standards. If
punishment or strict rules of some kind does not exist in an institution especially
as large as the military, control is lost and performance and standards are declined.
An example of a simple punishment for sub standard performance is the article 15.
If a service member is caught malingering or not performing his job, the leader is
authorized to recommend disciplinary action in order to motivate the member to do
his job properly. Usually, a counseling statement and a warning call will do the job
but, in cases where this fails, punishment is necessary to ensure the employee
changes his behavior. Use of non judicial punishment is proper in all cases involving
minor offenses in which non punitive measures are considered inadequate or
inappropriate . (AR 27 10). Non judicial punishment as the regulation describes it, is
designed to punish members but not affect their career if they decide to stay in the
military. This punishment is a slap in the hand, and records are destroyed after the
member leaves the unit where he received the punishment. If the article is
implemented, then the Soldier could receive confinement, pay deductions, and extra
labor. This punishment is definitely a motivator for newer soldiers to perform their
job to
Anton Chekhov Lady With A Dog
There were many golden age Slavic writers that dealt with the issue of adultery in
their writings and Anton Chekhov is one such author. In his short story Lady with a
Dog , Chekhov presented adultery not as a moral issue, but as a human relationship
that may or may not result in happiness for those who engaged in it. Anna
Sergeevna and Dmitri Gurov were more concerned about each other than the moral
implications of their adulterous acts. Moreover, Chekhov leaves the fate of the
adulterous couple undecided and provides a hope of happiness for the two
protagonists. The way Chekhov s story focused on the human relationship dynamic
of adultery over the moral dilemmas it presented was a refreshing take on a trope that
was all too common during... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the triumph of their reunification and Gurov s realization that he had fallen in
love for the first time in his life, the reader is left uncertain as to whether the
relationship will ultimately succeed or not. Chekhov ended his story with the
words: And it seemed that, just a little more and the solution would be found, and
then a new, beautiful life would begin; and it was clear to both of them that the
end was still far, far off, and that the most complicated and difficult part was just
beginning. The first part of the aforementioned passage demonstrated an intense
sense of hope, that the world of Anna and Gurov was about to be changed forever
for the better. However, the second part hints at the moral dilemmas that Chekhov
has largely managed to avoid throughout the story and put forth the idea that the
couple would soon face a litany of challenges that they may not be able to
overcome. Lady with a Dog was inspired by Chekhov s romantic relationship with
an actress and as such, he intended the story to focus on love. The uncertainty of the
ending helps Chekhov carry forward this goal as it leaves the reader is left with a
strong curiosity as to what will happen to Anna and Gurov after the end of the story.
By avoiding a conclusion for Anna and Gurov s affair, Chekhov was able to keep

It is better to have big churches not a bunch of small ones. (2 pts.)
No I do not believe that having big churches and not a lot of small churches. I think
its good to have a nice mix between the two based on the culture and the population of
the community. Each of them have their perks and their weakness.

After reading the material I believe the reason church planting is not the center of
some churches today is they fact that they are spending all their time and resources
on trying to keep a older church alive that is failing and unsuccessful. The other
reason I think church planting has taken a back seat is because many people believe
that there are enough churches already in the area and that there is no need for a
new church plant. Which is not always the case because their may be a certain group
of people you may be able to reach through a plant that would never consider
attending a traditional church.

Lego Structure Of The Lego Company
Lego is one of the most recognizable companies across the world. The Lego Group
was founded in 1932 by Ole Kirk Kristiansen and has since been passed down from
generation to generation, currently owned by Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen. The Lego
Group has headquarters in Billund, Denmark and main offices in USA, UK, China,
and Singapore. The Legoname originated from the abbreviation of two Danish
words leg godt meaning play well . The present day Lego brick was launched in
1958 with the interlocking principle which allowed for an infinite amount of
building possibilities. Because of the Lego Groups mass size there also comes a
very precise corporate structure. The Lego company is operated in a five member
Management Board. The Management Board consists of the Chief Executive
Officer(CEO), Chief Marketing Officer(CMO), Chief Financial Officer(CFO), Chief
Commercial Officer(CCO), and the Chief Operations Officer(COO)/Chief HR
Officer(CHRO). From there it is further broken down into a 21 member Corporate
Management and a board of directors. This corporate structure allows for individual
departments to work successfully within the larger corporation. With the Lego

one of the world s largest manufactures of toys, valuing imagination, creativity, fun,
learning, caring, and quality. The Lego Groupputs much emphasis on their desire to

Paddy Ashdown
Paddy Ashdown I can see in an archaic war movie, a rumbling, grumbling, stiff
bottom lipped officer holding his fist high and through his pheasant feathered
moustache yells out; You cannot taketh our hearts and minds, they re locked in this
great land of ours... liberalism will never surrender. Whenever Ashdown speaks or
writes I believe a trumpet somewhere rises up and sounds off an array of notes.
Ashdown knows it too; you can see that distant glint in his eye just before he
announces things or answers questions. His straw eyebrows twitch with a suspicion
that no other eyebrow does; they ve intelligence hidden in every follicle. When I
mean intelligence, the same covert material John Nash deciphered over in gargantuan

This involves new ideas and in democracy commentators, politicians, writers,
creative types, engineers and philosophers attempt to leave their mark. Belief
mechanisms have done so profusely, on grounds of claiming knowing the
unknown. Ashdown s methodology cleverly side foots celestial dialogue and in a
trice unleashes what most commentators have dismissed; the near future role of
Putin s Russia Ashdown states: We have no choice but to play hardball with
Moscow over Ukraine. But offering Putin a partnership on defeating the Sunni
jihad which threatens us both would add huge weight to our ability to succeed and
avoid the mistake of pushing Russia into a corner from which there is no escape. A
lot of compromising is in the offering, on par with Greece s infinite fiscal bail out
terms; realistically a reformed United Nation s mandate may suffice, purely due to
its remarkable silence at a time UN intervention would be heeded and respected.
We re subconsciously, consciously seeking answers and it comes in the most
unorthodox streams for proof of this I m reading Paddy Ashdown s Independent
articles; he s mentioned Russia quite a bit. I don t deduce this as being a case of
tautology, but as a vital element to what we must do, I suspect Ashdown will
reiterate its importance again and I ll read it again and I ll think we re no nearer to

Circuit City Corporation
Circuit City went bankrupt mainly due to its failed efforts to distinguish itself
among its competition. For example, Circuit City s prices on household appliances
could not compare to those of Sears, Wal Mart, and Home Depot. Similarly, when
McCollough decided to stop selling major appliances, and rebrand by selling more
cutting edge, consumer electronics products and remodeling the stores, Circuit City
turned into an inferior version of a Best Buy store. By pouring money into the
remodeling efforts and rebranding campaign, Circuit City not only lost capital, but
also its distinct image. In 2003, Circuit City s announcement that 3,900
commissioned sales staff would be laid off was the tipping point in its demise.
Having lost the main feature that differentiated Circuit City from its competitors,
especially Best Buy, there was no hope of recovery. As Best Buy s sales increased
and operating profits improved, Circuit City s weakening financial results and low
stockprice indicated the end was near. In conclusion, Circuit City s attempts to
rebrand and remodel resulted in it becoming more like other better brands and put the
company in a fiscal crisis.

growing popularity of online shopping, especially from Amazon. The company
stated that the latest round of stores had poor sales, physical location or other
specific circumstances. However, Payless was not alone in its demise; hundreds of
other retail stores and malls struggled this past year. The combination of increases in
online shopping and the shift to spending on traveling and dining out has created
much difficulty for retail stores like Payless. Thus, Payless s bankruptcy was largely

The Philosophy Of A Teacher
Educators have a tremendous responsibility not only to prepare students for their
lives ahead but also contribute to the evolution of knowledge for future generations.
Each generation educates the next and as the torch is passed we refine our methods.
The philosophy of education seeks to study the process and discipline of educationin
order to understand how it works. The philosophy of a teacher is his or her
description of their goals and beliefs and how they will be put into action in a
classroom. Teaching is recognized as one of the most challenging and respected
career choices one can make .The teacher s task is sometimes difficult based on the
subject and the age of the students to which he or she is trying to teach.
These philosophies or ideas will change based on one s experience and training. I
believe as Erickson who was a philosopher on education, who believed that children
go through a series of mini crisis as they mature and it is a part of the educator s
duties to assist them in making the transition as they proceed through life. When
these crisis present themselves as a behavior problem that prevent me from
contributing to the transition and evolution of that student s knowledge, then the
parents must become involved. The first institution of a child where he or she learns
is their home and the environment provided by their parents. The

Reality is a perception that organizes how people relate and organize the world. The
Paracingulate sulcus is a structure in the brain that is associated with our monitoring
of what is reality and what is not. With out this monitoring system people end up
with disorders such as schizophrenia. The New York Times interprets the results of a
study published by the University of Cambridge and University of Melbourne on the
effects of the Paracingulate sulcus on how peoplemonitor what is reality. The Study,
A Specific BrainStructural Basis for Individual Differences in Reality Monitoring,
examines a variety of researchon the matter and presents the hypothesis that the
people with out a Paracingulate sulcus will have poorer monitoring of memory
compared to people with a clear Paracingulate sulcus on either one or both sides of
the brain. Even though both articles explain the exact same research, it is
interesting to see the many differences of the two articles. The article was chosen
for more then its connection to cognition and what is being studied in class. The
article interested both participants in more ways than one. The idea of reality being
a perception that changes from person to person is not something people think about
explicitly. It is merely by reading the article that one can take interest in the fact that
each person perceives the world a different way. Even more so, this perception can
be altered by having, or not having, a specific structure in the
Artificial Organ Failure Essay
There are multiple positive and negative effects to implementing an artificial organ
into a human with health problems. According to Niharika Arya on Buzzle, The
time taken to create or grow an artificial organ is lesser than the waiting period for
finding a suitable donor whose organ matches with the recipient s body perfectly.
Over the years, organdonors have become less and less common, and the need for
more organs have become prominent everywhere; but, with the help of artificial
organs, people no longer have to feel obligated into donating their precious organs.
Unfortunately, there are risks in everything and not everything is perfect. Therefore,
artificial organs are no exception. The chances of organ failure are high, considering

sake of human enhancement (i.e: replacing bones with stronger, artificial ones).
Also, if the treatment happens to fail, who would be held accountable for it?
Would it be nobody or the surgeon? There is no correct way to answer how ethical
artificial organs are. After all, how could one answer such a question full of different

Anthropology, Cultural Studies, And Physical Anthropology
The study of anthropology traverse across four subfields that focus in archaeology,
linguistics, cultural studies, and physical anthropology. Each field can specialize in
an area of expertise. For physical anthropology, the sub discipline bioarchaeology,
incorporates both physical studies of human remains while contextualizing the data
found from archaeological evidence and other sciences. One researcher explains that,
information from the human skeletoncan be combined with historical documents and
material culture to understand social processes on multiple scales, (Hollimon 2011,
163). Bioarchaeology is unique in that it bridges biology and social science to create
new theories and ask more meaningful questions. The virtuosity of bioarchaeology
and why it is important is that it is a heavy question based field. It contextualizes all
fields of anthropology that can span into answering specific questions asked by
researchers in archaeology, culture studies, and physical anthropology. The questions
that bioarchaeologists seek to answer can range from demography, diet, identity, food
ways, and mortuary analysis. In general, the study of genderin anthropology is a
relatively recent phenomenon that covers all subfields. Since anthropology is the
study of all things human, it is interesting that study of identity and gender are only
recently in the field. McGee and Warms (2012), claim the trend in studying gender
lies within identities that do not fit traditional western
Student Retention Is A Priority For Public And Private...
Student retention has become a priority in public and private institutions of higher
education. Using student retention as a performance indicator has provided an
increase in data reporting of overall university student retention as well as retention
rates within academic programs. This data has shown a trend in decreasing retention
rates among college music majors at many universities (Fitzpatrick, Henninger,
Taylor, 2014; Gavin, 2012). Recent studies attribute this decrease to career
uncertainty and studentburnout (Bernhard, 2005; Gavin, 2012; Orzel, 2010).
The lower retention rates not only present a problem to the department of music, but
also to the students directly. Researchers are finding high rates of upper classmen
music majors dropping out or changing their major (Bernhard, 2005; Brown Alley,
1983; Gavin, 2012; Orzel, 2010). This often results in higher total tuition costs for the
students and delays to degree and job attainment.
As strategies for increasing retention are being developed, more studies are being
conducted to measure their impact. One such strategy is the implementation of
faculty/student mentor programs, which are proving to be effective in other areas of
study (Anderson, Dey, Gray, Thomas, 1995; Campbell Campbell, 1997; Coles
Blacknall, 2011; Swecker, Fifolt, Searby, 2013). The implementation of a formal
faculty mentor model within the department of music could prove to be a beneficial
approach to reducing music major burnout, and

Without question his most famous work is his Pulitzer Prize winning Appalachian
Spring with which he received the prestigious award in 1945. Commissioned by
American dancer and choreographer Martha Graham in 1943, Copland finished the
work a year later while teaching at Harvard. The song had a traditional American
sound much like his previous works, Quiet City and Billy the Kid and won
immediate success with audiences when it debuted in Washington, D.C. on
October 30, 1944. The material of the piece is largely folk and even incorporates
an old shaker song called Simple Gifts by Elder Joseph Brackett written in 1848.
One song, a patriotic piece called A Lincoln Portrait was written at the beginning of
World War II after Copland was commissioned to write a musical portrait of an
eminent American political figure. He quoted original folk songs of the time such as
the well known Camptown Races and also included material from letters and
speeches Lincoln had given.
When looking at the characteristics of his work, Copland could most likely be
described as an experimentalist. He often enjoyed mixing various stylistic ideas of
Jazz and Mexican dance rhythms into his music and did not shy away from including
these styles into his film scores and

If we describe the Canton Fair as China extending a hand to the world, then its
WTO membership is its full embrace of this world. (Wen Jiabao, 2011) After
joining the WTO, China quickly experienced the benefits of being part of a global
economy; its exports were more diverse, and there has been a surge in imports from
all regions, especially Asia.
However, there seem to be disagreements on China s position and performance in
the WTO in the future. It is being said that China s view on the WTO s multilateral
trade system is ambiguous. Furthermore China is blamed for being irresponsible
when it comes to maintaining he international order and global economic
governance. According to Rafael Leal Arcas, 2010, China has been playing at best
a passive role and, at worst, a disruptive role with respect to the global trading
system. China would be broken, and a broken China could break the WTO.
Therefore, the WTO s most difficult challenge may be to discipline trade relations
among China and other WTO members. All WTO members should work collectively
to encourage China to change its behavior. By so doing, they may promote the
development of the WTO. (Susan Ariel Aaronson, 2010)
Despite what critics say about China s attitude towards and future in the WTO, it can

The children need to eat something healthy and your spouse will want a hot meal on
the table when they arrive home after working a grueling 8 hour shift. You look in
the pantry, everything located there is not very healthy or will take hours to prepare

they serve is not very good, and definitely not healthy, also after a while it becomes
very expensive if you were to do this every time you had a day like this. Then
something reminds you, there are bread buns in the bread box, then there is that

because British had achieved the accomplishment successfully, such as ended the

soon covered the green. When the brief Battle of Lexington ended, eight Americans
were dead and 10 others were wounded. Only one British soldier was injured, but the
American Revolution had begun. At this point it was obvious to see that the British
had a bigger and better army, and the American only had the militia. However, at
Concord, the militia used a tactic called guerrilla. Guerrilla was a kind of tactic that
utilized the geography feature to have advantage during the battles. Militias just shot
enemies randomly and then they hid, so that the British troops were really confused
about where their enemies were. This time the American militias were prepared, with
this tactic, the Americans routed the British all the way back to Boston. There were
nearly 300 British casualties, including 73 dead and 23 missing. The Americans

The Effects Of Water Pollution
Pollution is a term applied to any environmental state or manifestation which is
harmful or unpleasant to life, resulting from failure to achieve or maintain control
over the chemical, physical or biological consequences or side effects of human
scientific, industrial and social habits (Feugo, 2008; Anderson et al., 2005). From
another perspective, water pollutionrefers to any physical, biological or chemical
change in water quality that adversely affects living organisms and makes water
unsuitable for desired uses as a result of anthropogenic activities (Cunningham and
Saigo, 2003; Anderson et al., 2005). Many human activities from water supply and
sanitation to transport, mining and the chemical industry have the potential to pollute

theme. The theme is taking risks for the ones you love. This is the theme that is

Confucianism Dbq Analysis
According to Confucianism a ruler should set a good example for his subjects
because people follow the leader. If the leader is corrupt and acts as if he is above the
law then people will copy him and act as he does. If the ruler follows the rules then
so will the people. Legalists believe that people are inherently evil and a good
military is needed to keep the people in check and to keep the enemies away. If the
people revolt or if the nation gets attacked, a good military is necessary to fight back.

Without a strong military they would be defenseless against attacks either from
neighbors or from revolts inside their own nation. The Persians were aware of the
need for a strong military and used to teach their kids from when they were five
years old to when they were twenty years old, how to ride a horse and how to
shoot a bow. (Doc 1) They trained their children from when they were young how
to fight because they knew it is of utmost importance to have a strong military. In
Sparta as well, the children were in school learning how to fight from when they
were very young and because of this Sparta was able to defend itself from Persia
when they attacked. They did however need to turn to Athens for help, because
they also had military training that was superior to its adversaries. A ruler whose
own nation revolts needs a good military in order to end the revolt and make sure
everything goes back to normal because without that he would be vulnerable, and
be taken over as soon as there is a revolt. A helpful document would be a primary

This essay paper studies the nature of scholarly research in architectural history by
reviewing and analyzing the article AD Classics: Fallingwater House/Frank Lloyd
Wright by Adelyn Perez on the Arch Daily website. This essay also gives further
analysis on the architecture of the Fallingwater House. In her article, Perez begins
with detailed facts related to the construction of the building. She gives the name of
the architect, location of the building, engineers, clients as well as year of the project
s completion. The author proceeds with the article by giving a detailed background
story to the building of the house which explains why the house was built. According
to Perez, the Kaufmann family was acquainted with Frank Lloyd Wright through their
son who studied at Wright s School. Through that friendship, the family then
approached Wright asking for him to build a weekend home for them at the Bear
Run Nature Reserve s stream. First floor
The site had great sentimental to the family since they had been using it as a retreat
for approximately 15 years. The family wanted Wright to construct the building
across from the waterfall in order for them to have it in sight. However, Perez states

Buckeyes Strengths And Weaknesses
From an early age, one learns how to communicate with others by engaging in his or
her own personal development. These interpersonal styles become valuable to an
individual. For instance, one learns from his or her parents how to exercise manners.
Over the years, I have acquired interpersonal skills from my family, education, and
employment that has proven to be quite beneficial. However, as a human, being
perfect is quite difficult. Despite, the strengths that one may possess, weaknesses are
also present. The project that I have chosen to demonstrate my personal growth,
including strengths and weaknesses, is the rivalry that exists between the Ohio State
Buckeyes and Michigan Wolverines football teams. Since I am an Ohio State fan, the

helmets as the focal point on each poster board. When looking at the Ohio State

The helmet is also decorated with buckeye leaf stickers. These stickers are earned for

Religious Issues In Mandala
In 1978, Kim Seongdong published the literary work called Mandala; a novel that
brought him recognition as a writer and led him to win the Literature Prize for
Novelists, but it also meant his excommunication from the Buddhist order he
belonged to.
In Mandala, Kim presents the story of a young itinerant Buddhist called Bobun who
in his journey arrives in the Byongsa temple and meets an older monk by the name
Yisan. At first, Bobun is outraged by Yisan s constant drinking and disrespectful
words as well as actions, but he is forced to share the guest room with the older
monk; which leads Bobun to confront Yisan about his actions and eventually both
monks engage in deep conversations regarding what is right and what is wrong, what
monks should and shouldn t do, and what Buddhism really means. ... Show more

Kim makes a series of accusations and declarations regarding the unpleasant and
wicked side of the religious system through Yisan s anecdotes and the description of
the obstacles both characters confront in the face of a closed ecclesiastical structure
that cares more for money and earthly possessions than the religion it represents.
Considering the strong allegations the author displays, it comes to no surprise that
after the release of this novel Kim Seongdong was expelled from the religious order
he was part of.
Finally, the author exhibits the crisis of the clash between the old and the new. From
beginning to end, the story shows diverse situations in which the traditional values
and way of living encounter a barrier in the form of a transitioning Korean society
that become more and more Occidentalized. In a way, the assimilation of western
values and morals presents itself as a factor in the perversion of the religious
structure and the decay of the society, but Kim never seems to blame the
westernization for this decline, he simply displays how the country unavoidably
changes and succumbs to corruption and
Regression Between Male Height, Age And Weight Essay
Rebecca Parada MATH 110 02 Professor Mink Regression between Male Height,

How Does Toni Morrison Use Names In Song Of Solomon
Macon Dead, Pilate, Reba, Hagar, First Corinthians, Milkman, Circe and Guitar.
Toni Morrison, author of Song of Solomon, has a greater purpose for using these
unique names. From the onset of the novel, Morrison s use of names is significant
and deliberate throughout the text. For instance, Not Doctor Street, originally
named Mains Street acknowledging the only black doctor the city allowed, hints at
the social tensions between black and white people in this society. Additionally, the
name Blood Bank was chosen to describe a rough part of the city. Morrison uses
this name to expose the differing social classes and racism that exists in the town. In
addition to physical places, Morrison also picked the names of each character
intentionally.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From the onset on the novel, Morrison is able associate Guitar with the theme of
unattainability through the ...contest, in a store down home in Florida (45). Guitar
saw [the guitar] when [his] mother took [him] downtown with her. [He] was just a
baby...[he] cried for it, they said. And always asked about it (45). Guitar s name
originates from this very event in his childhood. In addition to that fact that Guitar
is simply unable to obtain the guitar he desires, Morrison displays the
unattainability of the guitar by explaining It was one of those things where you
guess how many beans in the big glass jar and you win a guitar (45). This game
adds an additional barrier between Guitar and the guitar in the store because it
makes the guitar appear as a trophy to winning the contest. This connects to the
idea of contest and athletics as people compete with the attentions of winning or
obtaining money, trophies, or pride. Just like how the death of his own father
makes him unattainable Guitar choses to go to war with racism. Guitar notices
racism present in society ...When a Negro child, negro woman, or negro man is
killed by whites and nothing is done about it by their low and their courts... (154).
Guitar tries to end racism and reach equality be joining the Seven Days Society
which ...selects a similar victim at random, and they execute him or her in a similar
manner if they can (154). Morrison uses her major theme of racism to show the
significance of Guitar s name as he joins the Seven Days Society attempting to reach
justice by killing white people when they kill other black people. Morrison shows
that Guitar is fighting in an unwinnable war; Guitar keeps fighting anyways (1).
Deeper in the novel, Guitar s ...commitment to political justice goes awry: in seeking
a death for Hagar s death, presumably, Guitar sacrifices the innocent Pilate. Her

Four years after his birth his mother divorced his father and married Octavian.
Tiberius was a descendant of the Claudian family who moved to Rome shortly after

Tiberius began to take firm steps against foreign beliefs because he thought they
were a threat to traditional Roman values. He expelled followers of the Egyptian
and Jewish religions from Rome and banished astrologers. Tiberius believed in
astrology himself but probably feared a possible conspiracy inspired by horoscopes.
Tiberius established a central camp for the Praetorian guard in Rome so the
military could be quickly called to put down civilian violence. Civilian riots were
common because of the large population of unemployed that were provided for by
the public dole. Lucius Aelius Sejanus was in charge of these troops and that gave
him an enormous amount of potential power. He aspired to marry Livia Julia,
Tiberius daughter, and worked to increase the emperor s fear and distrust of other
members of his Tiberius family. In AD 26 Tiberius left
Rome and withdrew to Campania, and the following year went to the island of
Capri. Tiberius left Rome under the power of Sejanus. Finally realizing that
Sejanus was trying to seize the imperial power he sent a carefully worded letter to the
senate. The senate read the letter while the unsuspecting Sejanus sat in the senate
chamber. Tiberius bitterly condemned Sejanus. Quick action was then taken to
execute Sejanus and his family. Incidents such as this one gave
Tiberius a bad name with the people of Rome and the senate. Tiberius continued to
rule Rome and the

Analysis Of Obasan By Joy Kogawa
In Obasan, Joy Kogawa explores a woman s past through conflict, themes of silence
and prejudice presenting her traumatic story in an unthreatening manner suggesting it
is possible to heal from trauma. Obasan is a powerful novel written through the
perspective of Naomi Nakane, who is the protagonist of the novel. The novel s core
is based on the memories and experiences of Naomi. The setting is Western Canada
and the novel goes back and forth between 1972 and World War II during the
internment of Japanese Canadians. Kogawa presents Naomi s story in an
unthreatening manner as a way to bring recognition of the horrific events in Canadian
past as Karpinski argues that, Obasan deliberately presents itself as unthreatening
...Constantly facing the risk of provoking a potentially defensive and hostile reaction
among white Canadian readers (54). Obasan centres around the conflicts of the
Japanese Canadian internmentand the emotional, physical, and hardships that fell
on the Japanese during and after the war. Kogawa conveys that past events can
impact an individual s life due to the traumatizing memories and cause them to feel
conflicted, but it is possible for them to heal from such trauma. For instance, one
of Naomi s earliest traumatic memories was when she was molested by Old Man
Gower, a family friend of hers. When she recalls the vivid images of Old Man
Gower sexually abusing her, she claims that it was unthinkable to be held by [such]
force (67 68). Naomi cannot even bear
The Function Of An Anatomical Reflection
For the purpose of anatomical description, the ear is divided into four parts. These
are the auricle (pinna), the external auditory canal, the middle ear and its derivatives
and the inner ear. The auricle projects at a variable angle from the side of the head. It
has some function in sound collection. The body of the auricle is composed of a thin
plate of cartilage covered with skin and is connected to surrounding parts by
ligaments and muscles. It is continuous with the cartilage of the external meatus. The
external auditory canal extends from the concha of the auricle to the tympanic
membrane. The distance between the bottom of the concha to the tympanic
membrane is approximately 2.5 cm although the length of anterior canal wall is 1 1.5
mm more because of the length of the tragus, the obliquity of the tympanic membrane
and the curvature of the canal wall. The supportive framework of the canal wall is
cartilaginous in the lateral one third and bony in the medial two thirds. In the adults,
the cartilaginous portion runs inwards, slightly upwards and backwards, while the
bony portion runs inwards slightly downwards and forwards. The canal is
straightened therefore by gently moving the auricle upwards and backwards to
counteract the direction of cartilaginous portion. There are two constrictions in the
external auditory canal; at the junction of the cartilaginous and bony portions and the
other is the isthmus which is 5mm from the tympanic membrane where a prominence

Introduction:
The phrase click chemistry was invented by K. Barry Sharpless in 1998, and was
first integrally described by Sharpless, Hartmuth Kolb, and M.G. Finn of The Scripps
Research Institute in 2001.[1][2]
In Chemical synthesis, Click Chemistry is a category bio compatible reactions
which have potential to be the special synthesis way of specific bio molecules. It is
not an isolated specific synthesis reaction, but include a sort of relevant products,
which also engenders big molecule by linking small specific molecules together.
Usually click reactions link a bio molecule and a target molecule. Click chemistry is
not limited to biological field, the idea of a click reaction has been applied in
pharmacological and various bio mimetic applications. However, they have been
made significantly appliance in the detection, localization and qualification of bio
molecules.
Click reactions are one pot reactions, which are not hindered by water, generate
mineral salt and inoffensive byproducts, and are characterized by a high
thermodynamic driving

complete destruction was the end result of Hurricane Andrew. A Hurricane that began

was on August 24 when Hurricane Andrew arrived in South Florida. Andrew s fury
began early that day at 4:30am. Andrew s power and magnitude was heard in every

Preserving Sea Turtles in United States Essay
Preserving Sea Turtles in United States
Sea turtles, which have been around for millions of years, are on the brink of
extinction. In many countries, people consider their meat and eggs as prized
delicacies. Often times they are just killed for their beautiful shell. However, the
leading cause of sea turtle death in the US can be attributed to shrimp fishermen and
the nets they use to catch shrimp (1). Each year, thousands of sea turtles are carelessly
killed even though there are measures which can be taken to avoid this catastrophe.
With proper usage of a device called the Turtle Excluder Device (TED), shrimp
fishermen could reduce sea turtle deaths in their nets by 97% (5) thereby increasing
the likelihood for survival of all six ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas) is a medium to large bodied sea turtle that
is actually brownish in color. Adult shell lengths range from 0.9 1.1 meters and
weights average 90 137 kilograms. these turtles are primarily a herbivorous species
and the young can often be found in Florida waters, especially in areas with an
abundance of sea grasses. The decline in these turtles these turtles has been mostly
due to commercial harvest for eggs and food, as well as leather and jewelry (7).
The hawksbill sea turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata) is small to medium in size with
an attractively colored shell of thick overlapping scales. This shell is the source of
tortoise shell. Hawksbill turtles are named accordingly because of their hawk like
beak. They range in size from 45 90 kilograms in weight and 0.8 1.0 meters in length.
Commercial exploitation is the main cause of the continued decline of the hawksbill
turtle because of the high demand for tortoise shell products (7).
The Kemp s ridley sea turtle (Lepodochelys kempii) is the smallest and most
endangered sea turtle. The adult size does not exceed 0.8 meters in length and they
usually weigh between 36 and 45 kilograms. These are commonly olive gray but
they are black when they are young. Kemp ridley turtles inhabit the coastal waters

Feudal Europe Essay
There have been several key time periods that have changed the face of society
such as; the hunter gatherer nomadic lifestyle to agriculture, classical antiquities,
the Middle Ages renaissance, reformation to modern times. In a lecture for History
and Social Change at the University of Abertay Dundee, W Mcneish describes
history as being a contested terrain with the views of the historian giving their
perception of events . This essay will discuss the key features of the feudal period
and the key processes leading to the transition of this society from a sociological
perspective covering; the rise of feudalism, the hierarchical structure of feudal
Europe, the feudal mode of production, urban life, the role of religion and finally, the

Bartlett (2008) intimates that if the Lords dominated the law of the land, the Church
controlled the morality of the medieval min, constantly interfering in people s lives

who caused original sin. Women were devoid of rights and effectively the property of
their fathers then husbands.
Harman (2008) alludes to exploitation of the Serfs as the Lords requisite. He
extorted maximum dues. However, some of the surplus was invested in new
technology such as, a new design of iron plough, stiff harness for horses making
ploughing faster and cattle grazing on and fertilising the land. The mechanical
water mill and the introduction of crop rotation escalated production by 50%. Food
then could be traded as a commodity for goods. Other advances were; the fly wheel,
rudders for boats, eye glasses, stirrups, crossbow, gunpowder, the wheel barrow and
pedal loom.
By contrast Anderson (1978) indicates how the towns were bustling with merchants
and craftsman controlling the urban economy. Regulatory guilds were introduced
from the 12th century which had some civic power. However, the feudal lord was still

Definition Of Version Control Solutions
Version Control is an important thing when you re working on projects with
several different people involved. One could argue that it s important even if you re
working by yourself since you can maintain consistent backups of your projects.
Throughout the years, Unity3D has had several different built in version control
solutions. One of the best ones, in my opinion, was the Unity Asset Server.
Unfortunately, the Asset Server is now a legacy product and it sounds like Unity
will no longer be updating it for future releases. The other downside to the Asset
Server is that it requires a Pro license for Unity in order to implement it. Aside from
the Asset Server, there are several different third party solutions such as PlasticSCM,

Global Exchange Traded Products Industry
Over the past 5 years, ETFs have surged in popularity as they continue to grow and
evolve. Just this past year, the global exchange traded products industry reached
another milestone, topping $3 trillion in combined assets under management. Now
investors are searching for the next asset class which will expected to explode on the
scene as ETFs have recently. They may have found it last week when Eaton Vance
rolled out the first of its Nextshares products. The funds, commonly called exchange

carry low fees found with traditional ETFs.
Where Can You Find Them?
After receiving approval of the whole concept in late 2014, Eaton Vance s pipe
dream of an mutual fund ETF has finally become a realty. A little over a year
follow its approval, the first fund has final hit the market under the symbol EVSTC.
Eaton Vance debuted its new asset with a momentous ringing of the Nasdaq opening

Analysis Of Where Men Win Glory, By Jon Krakauer
Research Discussion: In Where Men Win Glory, Jon Krakauer primarily uses a lot
of primary sources to present the story of Pat Tillman. Using many books and first
person encounters, Krakauer relays the information that is necessary to understand
the context around the Pat Tillman story. For example, he uses Mary Tillman s Boots
on the Ground by Dusk: My Tribute to Pat Tillmanwhich is primary source. This
source is very useful because it talks about Pat Tillman from a person who knew
him very well: his mother Mary. Knowing that Jon is getting his information about
Pat from such an important figure in his life, the reader knows that this book is
reliable as well. I believe that this type of research falls under pathos because it

Architecture And Its Related Domical And Arched
Structures
Vaulted architecture and its related domical and arched structures are amongst the
most substantial Roman contributions to architectural knowledge throughout history.
The significance of their accomplishments and innovations in engineering are proven
by structures such as the vaulted and domed structures at Hadrian s Villa (ca 118
138CE) and Trajan s Markets (ca 105 10 CE) , which, after millennia still seem
everlasting. The notion of curved architecture did not originate with the Romans ,
thus one begs to question how the vaulted structure became so successful as a
contributor and staple of Roman architecture?
Arch forms were first introduced to the Romans by the Etruscans and were
established from a standpoint of practicality. Existing building elements such as the
widely used column, could only sustain the weight placed directly above it;
therefore a second vertical element was required for the support of a horizontal
spanning element, as a result the spanning distance was limited. Vaulted structures
however, are capable of distributing load over a wider area; the expansion from its
base and extrusion outwards also portray a more unified and dynamic quality. The
vault, as a result, became more widely accepted; used predominantly as the roofs or
ceiling of a structure. The barrel vault was the most fundamental of these forms, more
sophisticated developments such as the groin vault and domical vault were utilised in
Trajan s Markets and Hadrian s Villa respectively.

The Santa Fe Trail
In the many thousands of days between the signing of treaties for peace and
annexation of Texas the United States added nearly 1.2 million square miles to its
national domain. During this time period the bent brothers came very close to
destroying the federal union that they so radically enlarged; The words manifest
destiny were not paired politically until 1845 during this time period there were a
few words that everyone listened to and those were go west, young men and women
and find a better world . This faith ignited and sustained a massive migration of
many people in history. When this mass migration happened it sent Lewis and Clark
across the pacific whose impact never left the American imagination; the building of
the post on the Santa Fe Trail was occasioned by a significant shift in the pattern in
the fur trade. Further south the Mexican government would not have allowed a so
blatant intrusion by foreign fur companies. The reason being is that the trappers who
worked there in smaller parties where they sold and traded there pelts and bought
their supplies from merchants and maintained a small odorous general department

overhunting had reduced the availability of beaver throughout the west. However the

Southern Gothic Genre
The Sound and The Fury Southern Gothic is a subgenre of Gothic fiction in
American literature that takes place specifically in the American South. Common
themes in Southern Gothic literature include deeply flawed, disturbing or strange
characters, ambivalent gender roles, decayed or derelict settings, grotesque
situations, and other sinister events relating to poverty, alienation, crime, or violence.
William Faulkner s The Sound and The Fury uses irony and macabre to portray the

Compson can be defined as a weak, cold person filled with a sense of insecurity.
Her self absorption, hypochondria, and her constant whining leave no room for
the love that the children need. Quentin is too late to realize that Mrs. Compson is
most likely responsible for Caddy s becoming so promiscuous due to the lack of

can be my child except Jason he has never given me one moment s sorrow since I
first held him in my arms I knew he was to be my joy and salvation (June Second,

anyone, he denies any allegiance to, or love for, anyone except himself. Perhaps
that is why Mrs. Compson prefers him over her other children, because she and
him are the same person. Jason s monomaniac attitude allows him to hate his sister
Caddy for what she did, and allows him to carry a grudge longer than most. I know

her God requires that the Southern Values be kept by gentlemen behaving like
gentlemen and ladies behaving like ladies.

Getting to Know Hiromi Uehara
She often wears a strange, (but seems to be her personal characteristic), hairstyle to
get on stage. She always has a cheeky smile, swinging her body freely while her
fingers dance on the piano. She is intelligent and mischievous with endless musical
whimsy. She is the pianist, the composer that brings all the surprise to us, along with
her fiery rhythm and creative keyboard sound. Her name is Hiromi Uehara.
She is born in Shizuoka, Japan, started learning by the age of six. In addition to
classical techniques, she also started to learn jazz techniques and participated in
improvisation trainings. At the age of 12, she started to perform on stage and by the
age of 17, she met Chick Corea and got invited to play with him in the next day
concert.
In Hiromi s career, Hiromi has a lot of inspiration from all jazz musicians, such as
Chick Corea and Oscar Peterson. Here is a recording of Hiromi Uehara and Chick
Corea duet on Hiromi s piece Old Castle, by the river, in the middle of a forest
(2007). In comparison of these two great jazz musicians, Corea insists on his lyrical
jazz style while Hiromi is punchier and more rhythmic. (Chick Hiromi, 2008). This
combination allows Hiromi and Corea to present their strengths, surprise audiences
with their delicate musical ideas.
Here is another recording of Hiromi performing I got rhythm ; she dedicated this
work to Oscar Peterson. Just like her words in an interview with Anil Prasad in 2008

Microsoft s Visual Basic And Oracle s Java Essay
The need for more powerful and user friendly software grows exponentially every
year. This means that there is a higher demand for better quality and more versatile
software. Higher quality software that is versatile and consistent was very difficult to
create for developers before object oriented programming was created. The object
oriented programmingmethod of utilizing objects and methods has revolutionized
the way programmers create new applications. By allowing objects to be reusable
and flexible, this allows more time to be spent on creating meaningful coding tasks
with less time coding GUI s (Gaddis Irvine, 2014, p. xvii). Microsoft s Visual Basic
and Oracle s Java are object oriented programming languages that are very powerful
applications which contain many similarities while having small differences in the
syntax and the usage of elements that are common to both. Microsoft has been
producing software for many years. They have a multitude of applications such as
Excel, Word and Visual Basic. The first version of Visual Basic was introduced in
1991 by Microsoft and is still being utilized to create applications today (Gaddis
Irvine, 2014, p. xvii). By offering backwards compatibility throughout different
versions of Visual Basic, it is easy to update and utilize the new features of this
versatile software (Gaddis Irvine, 2014, p. xviii). Visual Basic is software that creates
applications by using the Object Oriented Programming methodology. Today this is a

1. Introduction
Stylish is a hairdressing business that currently owns and operates two hairdressing
salons in inner Melbourne: Carlton and South Melbourne. The owners of the
business (hereon the client) are interested in expanding their operations, and have
identified the Prahran area as a possible location for the establishing of a third salon.
The purpose of this report is to provide preliminary information to the client about: i)
the overall viability of establishing a salon in the Prahran area; and ii) key
management and marketing issues that need to be considered in ensuring the success
and profitability of any proposed new outlet. Note that the study considers the
viability of the business in broad management and marketing terms only; it does not
provide a comprehensive financial analysis of the proposed expansion. In the
investigation of these issues, two analytical concepts were used, namely Mega
Environment and Task Environment. The Mega Environment is concerned with the
external environment in which a business operates; the Task Environment considers
conditions that a business faces in its immediate environment (Bartol, Tein, Mathews,
Sharma Scott Ladd 2008). Data for the study came from a range of sources related to
both these environments including: industry research reports,

Competition Essay.pdf

  • 1. Competition Essay Writing an essay on the topic of competition can be quite challenging, as it requires a thoughtful exploration of various aspects related to this broad subject. The difficulty arises from the need to strike a balance between providing a comprehensive overview and delving into specific details. Firstly, one must grapple with the multifaceted nature of competition. It spans various domains, including business, sports, academics, and even personal relationships. Narrowing down the focus while still capturing the essence of competition in its entirety can be a daunting task. Moreover, conveying a unique perspective on the topic is essential to avoid presenting a generic, clichГ©d essay. Finding an original angle requires extensive research and critical thinking to uncover insights that go beyond the obvious. This demands a thorough exploration of both historical and contemporary examples, adding layers of complexity to the writing process. Crafting a compelling thesis statement is another hurdle. It must encapsulate the main argument while leaving room for the nuanced exploration of subtopics. Striking the right tone is crucial – the essay should be analytical and informative, yet engaging enough to hold the reader's attention. Additionally, ensuring a logical flow of ideas poses its own set of challenges. Transitioning seamlessly between paragraphs and maintaining coherence throughout the essay requires careful planning and organization. Juggling between providing evidence, analysis, and personal reflections can be intricate, demanding a skillful blend to create a cohesive narrative. Furthermore, the essay should not only present a balanced view of competition but also address potential counterarguments. This requires anticipating opposing perspectives and crafting a persuasive response, adding an extra layer of complexity to the writing process. In conclusion, tackling a competition essay involves navigating through a maze of ideas, perspectives, and arguments. It demands a careful balance between depth and breadth, originality and coherence. While the process may be challenging, it ultimately provides an opportunity for personal growth and a deeper understanding of the subject matter. For assistance with essays on various topics, including competition, consider exploring writing services like HelpWriting.net, where you can find expert help in crafting well-researched and thoughtful essays tailored to your specific needs. • 2. US Army Motivates Employees Every company must motivate their employees to ensure the maximum performance is achieved out of each employee for the company and employee long term success. In this essay, I will focus on three ways that the US Army motivates employees. The programs include the Awards Program, Counseling, and the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ). In the military and in the civilian sector the ultimate goal is for employees to be happy as they perform their daily duties and make the most profit for the company. It s hard to get top performance out of people who don t enjoy coming to work. For these reason Companies utilized many forms of motivating employees to ensure the ultimate goal is achieved, increase and maintain profit. Walt Disney at some point... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Not all motivators have to be rewards and incentives. Fear of punishment is definitively a motivator to perform well or at least perform to standards. If punishment or strict rules of some kind does not exist in an institution especially as large as the military, control is lost and performance and standards are declined. An example of a simple punishment for sub standard performance is the article 15. If a service member is caught malingering or not performing his job, the leader is authorized to recommend disciplinary action in order to motivate the member to do his job properly. Usually, a counseling statement and a warning call will do the job but, in cases where this fails, punishment is necessary to ensure the employee changes his behavior. Use of non judicial punishment is proper in all cases involving minor offenses in which non punitive measures are considered inadequate or inappropriate . (AR 27 10). Non judicial punishment as the regulation describes it, is designed to punish members but not affect their career if they decide to stay in the military. This punishment is a slap in the hand, and records are destroyed after the member leaves the unit where he received the punishment. If the article is implemented, then the Soldier could receive confinement, pay deductions, and extra labor. This punishment is definitely a motivator for newer soldiers to perform their job to
  • 3. Anton Chekhov Lady With A Dog There were many golden age Slavic writers that dealt with the issue of adultery in their writings and Anton Chekhov is one such author. In his short story Lady with a Dog , Chekhov presented adultery not as a moral issue, but as a human relationship that may or may not result in happiness for those who engaged in it. Anna Sergeevna and Dmitri Gurov were more concerned about each other than the moral implications of their adulterous acts. Moreover, Chekhov leaves the fate of the adulterous couple undecided and provides a hope of happiness for the two protagonists. The way Chekhov s story focused on the human relationship dynamic of adultery over the moral dilemmas it presented was a refreshing take on a trope that was all too common during... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After the triumph of their reunification and Gurov s realization that he had fallen in love for the first time in his life, the reader is left uncertain as to whether the relationship will ultimately succeed or not. Chekhov ended his story with the words: And it seemed that, just a little more and the solution would be found, and then a new, beautiful life would begin; and it was clear to both of them that the end was still far, far off, and that the most complicated and difficult part was just beginning. The first part of the aforementioned passage demonstrated an intense sense of hope, that the world of Anna and Gurov was about to be changed forever for the better. However, the second part hints at the moral dilemmas that Chekhov has largely managed to avoid throughout the story and put forth the idea that the couple would soon face a litany of challenges that they may not be able to overcome. Lady with a Dog was inspired by Chekhov s romantic relationship with an actress and as such, he intended the story to focus on love. The uncertainty of the ending helps Chekhov carry forward this goal as it leaves the reader is left with a strong curiosity as to what will happen to Anna and Gurov after the end of the story. By avoiding a conclusion for Anna and Gurov s affair, Chekhov was able to keep
  • 4. Church Planting Case Study Answer each question with as much detail as necessary. Briefly respond to these objections to church planting (use complete sentences) It is better to have big churches not a bunch of small ones. (2 pts.) No I do not believe that having big churches and not a lot of small churches. I think its good to have a nice mix between the two based on the culture and the population of the community. Each of them have their perks and their weakness. We need seminary trained pastors to start that church. (2 pts.) No I do not believe that we need seminary trained pastors to start a church. I think anyone who has answered the call of God to the ministry. I also think that they must feel called to plant and start a church as well based off Gods ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (3 pts) After reading the material I believe the reason church planting is not the center of some churches today is they fact that they are spending all their time and resources on trying to keep a older church alive that is failing and unsuccessful. The other reason I think church planting has taken a back seat is because many people believe that there are enough churches already in the area and that there is no need for a new church plant. Which is not always the case because their may be a certain group of people you may be able to reach through a plant that would never consider attending a traditional church. What are Redford s nine steps? (9 pts.) Select a church mission committee, select areas for new work, prepares the sponsoring church, cultivate the mission field, the mission fellowship, the mission chapel, the financial issue, provide facilities, constitute the new

The Lego Group was founded in 1932 by Ole Kirk Kristiansen and has since been passed down from generation to generation, currently owned by Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen. The Lego Group has headquarters in Billund, Denmark and main offices in USA, UK, China, and Singapore. The Legoname originated from the abbreviation of two Danish words leg godt meaning play well . The present day Lego brick was launched in 1958 with the interlocking principle which allowed for an infinite amount of building possibilities. Because of the Lego Groups mass size there also comes a very precise corporate structure. The Lego company is operated in a five member Management Board. The Management Board consists of the Chief Executive Officer(CEO), Chief Marketing Officer(CMO), Chief Financial Officer(CFO), Chief Commercial Officer(CCO), and the Chief Operations Officer(COO)/Chief HR Officer(CHRO). From there it is further broken down into a 21 member Corporate Management and a board of directors. This corporate structure allows for individual departments to work successfully within the larger corporation. With the Lego Groups mission to inspire and develop the builders of tomorrow they have become one of the world s largest manufactures of toys, valuing imagination, creativity, fun, learning, caring, and quality. The Lego Groupputs much emphasis on their desire to help children learn and develop essential skills purely through
  • 6. Paddy Ashdown Paddy Ashdown I can see in an archaic war movie, a rumbling, grumbling, stiff bottom lipped officer holding his fist high and through his pheasant feathered moustache yells out; You cannot taketh our hearts and minds, they re locked in this great land of ours... liberalism will never surrender. Whenever Ashdown speaks or writes I believe a trumpet somewhere rises up and sounds off an array of notes. Ashdown knows it too; you can see that distant glint in his eye just before he announces things or answers questions. His straw eyebrows twitch with a suspicion that no other eyebrow does; they ve intelligence hidden in every follicle. When I mean intelligence, the same covert material John Nash deciphered over in gargantuan Baked Bean tins many... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This involves new ideas and in democracy commentators, politicians, writers, creative types, engineers and philosophers attempt to leave their mark. Belief mechanisms have done so profusely, on grounds of claiming knowing the unknown. Ashdown s methodology cleverly side foots celestial dialogue and in a trice unleashes what most commentators have dismissed; the near future role of Putin s Russia Ashdown states: We have no choice but to play hardball with Moscow over Ukraine. But offering Putin a partnership on defeating the Sunni jihad which threatens us both would add huge weight to our ability to succeed and avoid the mistake of pushing Russia into a corner from which there is no escape. A lot of compromising is in the offering, on par with Greece s infinite fiscal bail out terms; realistically a reformed United Nation s mandate may suffice, purely due to its remarkable silence at a time UN intervention would be heeded and respected. We re subconsciously, consciously seeking answers and it comes in the most unorthodox streams for proof of this I m reading Paddy Ashdown s Independent articles; he s mentioned Russia quite a bit. I don t deduce this as being a case of tautology, but as a vital element to what we must do, I suspect Ashdown will reiterate its importance again and I ll read it again and I ll think we re no nearer to resolving the threat... Similarly, when McCollough decided to stop selling major appliances, and rebrand by selling more cutting edge, consumer electronics products and remodeling the stores, Circuit City turned into an inferior version of a Best Buy store. By pouring money into the remodeling efforts and rebranding campaign, Circuit City not only lost capital, but also its distinct image. In 2003, Circuit City s announcement that 3,900 commissioned sales staff would be laid off was the tipping point in its demise. Having lost the main feature that differentiated Circuit City from its competitors, especially Best Buy, there was no hope of recovery. As Best Buy s sales increased and operating profits improved, Circuit City s weakening financial results and low stockprice indicated the end was near. However, Payless was not alone in its demise; hundreds of other retail stores and malls struggled this past year. The combination of increases in online shopping and the shift to spending on traveling and dining out has created much difficulty for retail stores like Payless. Thus, Payless s bankruptcy was largely due to the overall downfall of the retail

The Philosophy Of A Teacher Educators have a tremendous responsibility not only to prepare students for their lives ahead but also contribute to the evolution of knowledge for future generations. Each generation educates the next and as the torch is passed we refine our methods. The philosophy of education seeks to study the process and discipline of educationin order to understand how it works. The philosophy of a teacher is his or her description of their goals and beliefs and how they will be put into action in a classroom. Teaching is recognized as one of the most challenging and respected career choices one can make .The teacher s task is sometimes difficult based on the subject and the age of the students to which he or she is trying to teach. These philosophies or ideas will change based on one s experience and training. I believe as Erickson who was a philosopher on education, who believed that children go through a series of mini crisis as they mature and it is a part of the educator s duties to assist them in making the transition as they proceed through life. The Paracingulate sulcus is a structure in the brain that is associated with our monitoring of what is reality and what is not. The New York Times interprets the results of a study published by the University of Cambridge and University of Melbourne on the effects of the Paracingulate sulcus on how peoplemonitor what is reality. The Study, A Specific BrainStructural Basis for Individual Differences in Reality Monitoring, examines a variety of researchon the matter and presents the hypothesis that the people with out a Paracingulate sulcus will have poorer monitoring of memory compared to people with a clear Paracingulate sulcus on either one or both sides of the brain. The article was chosen for more then its connection to cognition and what is being studied in class. The article interested both participants in more ways than one. The idea of reality being a perception that changes from person to person is not something people think about explicitly. It is merely by reading the article that one can take interest in the fact that each person perceives the world a different way. Even more so, this perception can be altered by having, or not having, a specific structure in the

  • 13. Anthropology, Cultural Studies, And Physical Anthropology The study of anthropology traverse across four subfields that focus in archaeology, linguistics, cultural studies, and physical anthropology. Each field can specialize in an area of expertise. For physical anthropology, the sub discipline bioarchaeology, incorporates both physical studies of human remains while contextualizing the data found from archaeological evidence and other sciences. One researcher explains that, information from the human skeletoncan be combined with historical documents and material culture to understand social processes on multiple scales, (Hollimon 2011, 163). Bioarchaeology is unique in that it bridges biology and social science to create new theories and ask more meaningful questions. The virtuosity of bioarchaeology and why it is important is that it is a heavy question based field. It contextualizes all fields of anthropology that can span into answering specific questions asked by researchers in archaeology, culture studies, and physical anthropology. The questions that bioarchaeologists seek to answer can range from demography, diet, identity, food ways, and mortuary analysis. In general, the study of genderin anthropology is a relatively recent phenomenon that covers all subfields. • 14. Student Retention Is A Priority For Public And Private... Student retention has become a priority in public and private institutions of higher education. Using student retention as a performance indicator has provided an increase in data reporting of overall university student retention as well as retention rates within academic programs. This data has shown a trend in decreasing retention rates among college music majors at many universities (Fitzpatrick, Henninger, Taylor, 2014; Gavin, 2012). Recent studies attribute this decrease to career uncertainty and studentburnout (Bernhard, 2005; Gavin, 2012; Orzel, 2010). The lower retention rates not only present a problem to the department of music, but also to the students directly. Researchers are finding high rates of upper classmen music majors dropping out or changing their major (Bernhard, 2005; Brown Alley, 1983; Gavin, 2012; Orzel, 2010). This often results in higher total tuition costs for the students and delays to degree and job attainment. As strategies for increasing retention are being developed, more studies are being conducted to measure their impact. One such strategy is the implementation of faculty/student mentor programs, which are proving to be effective in other areas of study (Anderson, Dey, Gray, Thomas, 1995; Campbell Campbell, 1997; Coles Blacknall, 2011; Swecker, Fifolt, Searby, 2013). The implementation of a formal faculty mentor model within the department of music could prove to be a beneficial approach to reducing music major burnout, and

Commissioned by American dancer and choreographer Martha Graham in 1943, Copland finished the work a year later while teaching at Harvard. The song had a traditional American sound much like his previous works, Quiet City and Billy the Kid and won immediate success with audiences when it debuted in Washington, D.C. on October 30, 1944. The material of the piece is largely folk and even incorporates an old shaker song called Simple Gifts by Elder Joseph Brackett written in 1848. One song, a patriotic piece called A Lincoln Portrait was written at the beginning of World War II after Copland was commissioned to write a musical portrait of an eminent American political figure. He quoted original folk songs of the time such as the well known Camptown Races and also included material from letters and speeches Lincoln had given. When looking at the characteristics of his work, Copland could most likely be described as an experimentalist. He often enjoyed mixing various stylistic ideas of Jazz and Mexican dance rhythms into his music and did not shy away from including these styles into his film scores and

The purpose of this experiment was to determine if a significant multiple regression exists between my 3 quantitative variables, Weight, Height and Age and to determine the best regression model to use when making predictions. In Part 1, I conducted a statistical experiment to determine if a linear relationship exists between each of my independent variables and my dependent variable, which were biological in nature. My independent variables were height (inches) and age (years). My dependent variable was weight (pounds). The goal of my experiment was to observe a linear correlation between an 18 22 year old male s height and weight. I collected my data by randomly selecting a sample size of 25 male individuals who attend Montclair State University. The best method of prediction would
  • 30. How Does Toni Morrison Use Names In Song Of Solomon Macon Dead, Pilate, Reba, Hagar, First Corinthians, Milkman, Circe and Guitar. Toni Morrison, author of Song of Solomon, has a greater purpose for using these unique names. From the onset of the novel, Morrison s use of names is significant and deliberate throughout the text. For instance, Not Doctor Street, originally named Mains Street acknowledging the only black doctor the city allowed, hints at the social tensions between black and white people in this society. Additionally, the name Blood Bank was chosen to describe a rough part of the city. Morrison uses this name to expose the differing social classes and racism that exists in the town. In addition to physical places, Morrison also picked the names of each character intentionally.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From the onset on the novel, Morrison is able associate Guitar with the theme of unattainability through the ...contest, in a store down home in Florida (45). Guitar saw [the guitar] when [his] mother took [him] downtown with her. [He] was just a baby...[he] cried for it, they said. And always asked about it (45). Guitar s name originates from this very event in his childhood. In addition to that fact that Guitar is simply unable to obtain the guitar he desires, Morrison displays the unattainability of the guitar by explaining It was one of those things where you guess how many beans in the big glass jar and you win a guitar (45). This game adds an additional barrier between Guitar and the guitar in the store because it makes the guitar appear as a trophy to winning the contest. This connects to the idea of contest and athletics as people compete with the attentions of winning or obtaining money, trophies, or pride. Just like how the death of his own father makes him unattainable Guitar choses to go to war with racism. Guitar notices racism present in society ...When a Negro child, negro woman, or negro man is killed by whites and nothing is done about it by their low and their courts... (154). Guitar tries to end racism and reach equality be joining the Seven Days Society which ...selects a similar victim at random, and they execute him or her in a similar manner if they can (154). Morrison uses her major theme of racism to show the significance of Guitar s name as he joins the Seven Days Society attempting to reach justice by killing white people when they kill other black people. Morrison shows that Guitar is fighting in an unwinnable war; Guitar keeps fighting anyways (1). Deeper in the novel, Guitar s ...commitment to political justice goes awry: in seeking a death for Hagar s death, presumably, Guitar sacrifices the innocent Pilate. Her

Tiberius began to take firm steps against foreign beliefs because he thought they were a threat to traditional Roman values. He expelled followers of the Egyptian and Jewish religions from Rome and banished astrologers. Tiberius believed in astrology himself but probably feared a possible conspiracy inspired by horoscopes. Tiberius established a central camp for the Praetorian guard in Rome so the military could be quickly called to put down civilian violence. Civilian riots were common because of the large population of unemployed that were provided for by the public dole. Lucius Aelius Sejanus was in charge of these troops and that gave him an enormous amount of potential power. He aspired to marry Livia Julia, Tiberius daughter, and worked to increase the emperor s fear and distrust of other members of his Tiberius family. In AD 26 Tiberius left Rome and withdrew to Campania, and the following year went to the island of Capri. Tiberius left Rome under the power of Sejanus. Finally realizing that Sejanus was trying to seize the imperial power he sent a carefully worded letter to the senate. The senate read the letter while the unsuspecting Sejanus sat in the senate chamber. Tiberius bitterly condemned Sejanus. Quick action was then taken to execute Sejanus and his family. Incidents such as this one gave Tiberius a bad name with the people of Rome and the senate. Tiberius continued to rule Rome and the

Obasan is a powerful novel written through the perspective of Naomi Nakane, who is the protagonist of the novel. The novel s core is based on the memories and experiences of Naomi. The setting is Western Canada and the novel goes back and forth between 1972 and World War II during the internment of Japanese Canadians. Kogawa presents Naomi s story in an unthreatening manner as a way to bring recognition of the horrific events in Canadian past as Karpinski argues that, Obasan deliberately presents itself as unthreatening ...Constantly facing the risk of provoking a potentially defensive and hostile reaction among white Canadian readers (54). Obasan centres around the conflicts of the Japanese Canadian internmentand the emotional, physical, and hardships that fell on the Japanese during and after the war. Kogawa conveys that past events can impact an individual s life due to the traumatizing memories and cause them to feel conflicted, but it is possible for them to heal from such trauma. For instance, one of Naomi s earliest traumatic memories was when she was molested by Old Man Gower, a family friend of hers. These are the auricle (pinna), the external auditory canal, the middle ear and its derivatives and the inner ear. The auricle projects at a variable angle from the side of the head. It has some function in sound collection. The body of the auricle is composed of a thin plate of cartilage covered with skin and is connected to surrounding parts by ligaments and muscles. It is continuous with the cartilage of the external meatus. The external auditory canal extends from the concha of the auricle to the tympanic membrane. The distance between the bottom of the concha to the tympanic membrane is approximately 2.5 cm although the length of anterior canal wall is 1 1.5 mm more because of the length of the tragus, the obliquity of the tympanic membrane and the curvature of the canal wall. The supportive framework of the canal wall is cartilaginous in the lateral one third and bony in the medial two thirds. In the adults, the cartilaginous portion runs inwards, slightly upwards and backwards, while the bony portion runs inwards slightly downwards and forwards. The canal is straightened therefore by gently moving the auricle upwards and backwards to counteract the direction of cartilaginous portion. There are two constrictions in the external auditory canal; at the junction of the cartilaginous and bony portions and the other is the isthmus which is 5mm from the tympanic membrane where a prominence of

It is not an isolated specific synthesis reaction, but include a sort of relevant products, which also engenders big molecule by linking small specific molecules together. Usually click reactions link a bio molecule and a target molecule. Click chemistry is not limited to biological field, the idea of a click reaction has been applied in pharmacological and various bio mimetic applications. However, they have been made significantly appliance in the detection, localization and qualification of bio molecules. Click reactions are one pot reactions, which are not hindered by water, generate mineral salt and inoffensive byproducts, and are characterized by a high thermodynamic driving

  • 48. Architecture And Its Related Domical And Arched Structures Vaulted architecture and its related domical and arched structures are amongst the most substantial Roman contributions to architectural knowledge throughout history. The significance of their accomplishments and innovations in engineering are proven by structures such as the vaulted and domed structures at Hadrian s Villa (ca 118 138CE) and Trajan s Markets (ca 105 10 CE) , which, after millennia still seem everlasting. The notion of curved architecture did not originate with the Romans , thus one begs to question how the vaulted structure became so successful as a contributor and staple of Roman architecture? Arch forms were first introduced to the Romans by the Etruscans and were established from a standpoint of practicality. Existing building elements such as the widely used column, could only sustain the weight placed directly above it; therefore a second vertical element was required for the support of a horizontal spanning element, as a result the spanning distance was limited. Vaulted structures however, are capable of distributing load over a wider area; the expansion from its base and extrusion outwards also portray a more unified and dynamic quality. The vault, as a result, became more widely accepted; used predominantly as the roofs or ceiling of a structure. The barrel vault was the most fundamental of these forms, more sophisticated developments such as the groin vault and domical vault were utilised in Trajan s Markets and Hadrian s Villa respectively.

The Santa Fe Trail In the many thousands of days between the signing of treaties for peace and annexation of Texas the United States added nearly 1.2 million square miles to its national domain. During this time period the bent brothers came very close to destroying the federal union that they so radically enlarged; The words manifest destiny were not paired politically until 1845 during this time period there were a few words that everyone listened to and those were go west, young men and women and find a better world . This faith ignited and sustained a massive migration of many people in history. When this mass migration happened it sent Lewis and Clark across the pacific whose impact never left the American imagination; the building of the post on the Santa Fe Trail was occasioned by a significant shift in the pattern in the fur trade. Further south the Mexican government would not have allowed a so blatant intrusion by foreign fur companies. The reason being is that the trappers who worked there in smaller parties where they sold and traded there pelts and bought their supplies from merchants and maintained a small odorous general department stores in Taos, somewhat removed from the scrutiny in Santa Fe. By the early 1830 s, overhunting had reduced the availability of beaver throughout the west. However the prices for the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the time of this expansion America s population was doubling every twenty three years one of the many contributing factors of manifest destiny. In 1845 representative Caleb Cushing, member of the Massachusetts shipping family that was already trading in Oregon and Hawaii, managed to talk the reluctant Chinese rulers into a treaty that would enable trading with the increased

Her self absorption, hypochondria, and her constant whining leave no room for the love that the children need. Quentin is too late to realize that Mrs. Compson is most likely responsible for Caddy s becoming so promiscuous due to the lack of love and affection that was never given to them as children. Ironically, the only child Mrs. Compson shows any affection to is Jason. I look at her I wonder if she can be my child except Jason he has never given me one moment s sorrow since I first held him in my arms I knew he was to be my joy and salvation (June Second, 1910. Pg. 65). Jason s success in life is due to the fact that he feels no love for anyone, he denies any allegiance to, or love for, anyone except himself. Perhaps that is why Mrs. Compson prefers him over her other children, because she and him are the same person. Jason s monomaniac attitude allows him to hate his sister Caddy for what she did, and allows him to carry a grudge longer than most. I know I m just a troublesome old woman. But I know that people cannot flout God s laws with impunity (April Sixth, 1925. Pg. 125). Religion was very important in the Southern Values. She always has a cheeky smile, swinging her body freely while her fingers dance on the piano. She is intelligent and mischievous with endless musical whimsy. She is the pianist, the composer that brings all the surprise to us, along with her fiery rhythm and creative keyboard sound. Her name is Hiromi Uehara. She is born in Shizuoka, Japan, started learning by the age of six. In addition to classical techniques, she also started to learn jazz techniques and participated in improvisation trainings. At the age of 12, she started to perform on stage and by the age of 17, she met Chick Corea and got invited to play with him in the next day concert. In Hiromi s career, Hiromi has a lot of inspiration from all jazz musicians, such as Chick Corea and Oscar Peterson. Here is a recording of Hiromi Uehara and Chick Corea duet on Hiromi s piece Old Castle, by the river, in the middle of a forest (2007). In comparison of these two great jazz musicians, Corea insists on his lyrical jazz style while Hiromi is punchier and more rhythmic. (Chick Hiromi, 2008). This combination allows Hiromi and Corea to present their strengths, surprise audiences with their delicate musical ideas. Here is another recording of Hiromi performing I got rhythm ; she dedicated this work to Oscar Peterson. Just like her words in an interview with Anil Prasad in 2008 I really have to respect the song to

Quantitative is limited probing and the sample size are large and the information that is gathered varies. Requirements for administration for qualitative is an interviewer with special skills and the analysis is subjective and interpretive. • 55. Microsoft s Visual Basic And Oracle s Java Essay The need for more powerful and user friendly software grows exponentially every year. This means that there is a higher demand for better quality and more versatile software. Higher quality software that is versatile and consistent was very difficult to create for developers before object oriented programming was created. The object oriented programmingmethod of utilizing objects and methods has revolutionized the way programmers create new applications. By allowing objects to be reusable and flexible, this allows more time to be spent on creating meaningful coding tasks with less time coding GUI s (Gaddis Irvine, 2014, p. xvii). Microsoft s Visual Basic and Oracle s Java are object oriented programming languages that are very powerful applications which contain many similarities while having small differences in the syntax and the usage of elements that are common to both. Microsoft has been producing software for many years. They have a multitude of applications such as Excel, Word and Visual Basic. The first version of Visual Basic was introduced in 1991 by Microsoft and is still being utilized to create applications today (Gaddis Irvine, 2014, p. xvii). By offering backwards compatibility throughout different versions of Visual Basic, it is easy to update and utilize the new features of this versatile software (Gaddis Irvine, 2014, p. xviii). Visual Basic is software that creates applications by using the Object Oriented Programming methodology. Today this is a

Introduction Stylish is a hairdressing business that currently owns and operates two hairdressing salons in inner Melbourne: Carlton and South Melbourne. The owners of the business (hereon the client) are interested in expanding their operations, and have identified the Prahran area as a possible location for the establishing of a third salon. The purpose of this report is to provide preliminary information to the client about: i) the overall viability of establishing a salon in the Prahran area; and ii) key management and marketing issues that need to be considered in ensuring the success and profitability of any proposed new outlet. Note that the study considers the viability of the business in broad management and marketing terms only; it does not provide a comprehensive financial analysis of the proposed expansion. In the investigation of these issues, two analytical concepts were used, namely Mega Environment and Task Environment. The Mega Environment is concerned with the external environment in which a business operates; the Task Environment considers conditions that a business faces in its immediate environment (Bartol, Tein, Mathews, Sharma Scott Ladd 2008). Data for the study came from a range of sources related to both these environments including: industry research reports,
