The Cost Of Execution
Executions have been a method of punishment for many years, yet the different types of executions
have advanced in technology over the years. Every state has a different way of executing criminals.
For example, Texas follows out the execution plan by conducting death by lethal injection. Our state
law allows a jury to vote for death by lethal injection for convicted criminals, and I would vote to
change this law. Many studies have been conducted to the find the truth about the cost of executions
versus the cost of life in prison. Pro execution supporters state that by carrying out executions
thousands of tax dollars are saved. This, in fact, is not necessarily correct. There is much research that
proves that executions are far more expensive

Eating A Marshmallow Experiment
Eat a marshmallow now or eat 2 in 15 minutes? That s what 600 four year olds were asked in 1972 at
Stanford University by a man that goes by the name of Walter Mischel. Needless to say, most kids
decided to wait. There was another option though, If they were not able to be patient they were left
with a bell to ring in case they wanted to eat the marshmallow right then and there. The main focus on
this experiment was to see how willpower was being used in their early life stage. One main detail that
was pointed out how the children dealt with the stressful situation. Most of the kids just occupied
themselves by covering their eyes, Moving into a corner to avoid contact with what s behind them, or
they just simply put their head down. Although

Technology And The Pursuit Of Reaching Our Goal
Powerlifters, but more specifically women who train and compete in the United States, use many
forms of technology in the pursuit of reaching our goal. As a female powerlifter residing in the United
States I have been to numerous competitions and have had the opportunity to meet many others who
belong to the same demographic. Therefore, I can testify that my goal is similar to that of the entire
group. Our fundamental goal is to lift the most weight on the squat, bench press, deadlift, and the
combined total of these three lifts. In order to reach that goal we utilize many forms of technology. I
have categorized these forms of technology into three sections: technology within equipment,
technology for safety, and technology for information/improvement. Though there are other forms of
technology utilized, these categories cover the majority of technology we commonly employ.
Ultimately, the technology we use makes it easier for female powerlifters, like myself, who compete
in the United States to reach our goal of lifting the most amount of weight on our three lifts because it
allows us to lift without being limited by the amount of weight equipment can hold, without injury,
and with information necessary for improvement. Let us begin our discussion on how technology is
employed in a powerlifter s day to day activities by looking at the technology within the equipment
category. For starters, we lift weight on barbells designed specifically for powerlifting. The tensile

Sectional Title Essay
Pros Cons of sectional title schemes
Sectional title means that you are owner a unit in a common property, weather its an apartment,
partially detached house, mini subtype home or a flat. So, you are sole owner of your living unit but
you also have the right to use certain common parts of property that are co owned by all the sectional
title owners in this community, such as yard, pool, washing room etc.
Pros of sectional title scheme
Sectional title has its advantages. For one, you will own your home for (probably) lower price then if
you have chosen to buy a house with own land. There is also an element of community, living within a
group where people usually tend to become closer because they share certain parts of property
together ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For one, you don t have complete control of your property there are these common parts that can be
used (and are owned) by other sectional title owners. Management of property has the right to decide
about building/property management and you as an individual owner can t decide otherwise but have
to comply, even when you don t agree with such decision. These decisions can determine pet rules,
playing area and usage of communal area.
These rules can change and even if you or some other owner don t agree with the rules and how they
were changed, you still have to comply with them. Also, you can t decide to change your home in
larger amount, to do some construction works, before you get an approval from the management. You
and other owners of sectional title parts of property are responsible to cover any and every debt of the
community, which means that if one of the owners doesn t cover his communal expenses, others will
be liable to cover for him.
In general, it can be said that sectional title scheme has its advantages and disadvantages. It is a good
start for young couple who want to start life in their property. Of course, one should be aware of all
the restrictions and limitations that apply to sectional scheme property before choosing to get involved
in such property ownership. Also, before buying such property make sure to do your research of the
property, the rules and the

Comparing The Painting, Luncheon Of The Boating Party
Pierre Auguste Renoir, Luncheon of the Boating Party
Caravaggio, Narcissus
Similarities:
1. The first similarity, I found is that both paintings appear to be portraying an event as it is happening,
similar to a photo.
2. The second similarity, I found is that both paintings use colors that may best describe the context of
the artists as the paintings were created.
3. The final similarity, I found is that without knowing the artists history, it would appear that both
paintings were based on social upbringings.
Differences:
1. Firstly, the painting Luncheon of the Boating Party would best be described to me as a genre
painting .The reason I say this is because, when reading the story behind the artwork it states that
Luncheon of the Boating Party was intended to replicate everyday modern life which means, he based
his art work on facts about life. While the painting Narcissus states that The story of Narcissus comes
from Greco Roman mythology which means that the story is not proven to be true.
2. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The next difference I found between these two were the content the artist tells. While reading this
quote Narcissus stayed beside the stream gazing at his reflected paramour in vain, neglecting even to
eat or drink. I found that the picture has to do with Narcissus falling in love with his reflection in the
puddle of water. While in the story behind Luncheon of the Boating Party it states that This canvas
shows the artist creatively using clothing and scenery to portray a typical sunny afternoon gathering of
friends. The difference between the two artists is one is focused on himself, while in the other the
artist is focused on

Generating Organizational Creativity With Four Critical...
Generating Organizational Creativity with Four Critical Traits
Organizational creativity is when employees develop novel ideas as a whole or as an individual
(Greenberg 2015). Whereas, innovation is when novel ideas are implemented within the organization
successfully by either improving something already established or introducing something
contemporary (Greenberg 2015; Ferlic 2008). However, business analysts that rank companies from
most to least creative tend to omit the criteria they use to determine what makes an organization
innovative (Choudhary, 2014; Ferlic, 2008). Furthermore, the gap in academic research in determining
what critical traits are needed to encourage and enhance organizational creativity gives us reason to
examine these critical traits (Choudhary, 2014; Goudreau, 2013; Greenberg 2015).
In this paper, I will first introduce and analyze Choudhary s (2014) findings on the four critical traits
of innovative organization. Along the way, I will show that these traits alone are not adequate enough
to garner organizational creativity because it is too dynamic of a concept to be established with only
four critical traits . To conclude, I will argue that organizational creativity is a multifaceted term
encompassing other concepts particularly, innovation, culture, leadership, and motivation (Goudreau,
2013; Greenberg 2015).
Due to the lack of academic data on this subject, the study analyzed Fast Company s Top 50 Most
Innovative List rankings from 2009

The Rugby League
Rugby is a team sport played on a field. There are three main forms of rugby rugby league, rugby
union and sevens. This paper will focus primarily on elements that they have in common. For the first
two forms, there are thirteen players on the field for each team. A game is eighty minutes long and is
divided into two halves of continuous action.
The objective of rugby is to carry an oblong ball down the field and across the opponent s goal line.
This is the main scoring play, known as a try. A try is worth five points. In order to count for a try, the
player must take the ball across the goal line and set it down on the ground. The point at which the
ball is set down is used as the basis for the try at goal. This is a kicking play, and it follows a try. The
team that scored the try attempts to kick the ball through the upright goal in the middle of the field. If
successful, the try at goal is worth two points. The other way that rugby teams can earn points is
through field goals. This is earned any time a player kicks the ball through the uprights of the
opponent. This can happen from open play or on a penalty, and is worth one point.
Rugby is played on a large field and the players wear little equipment. There is no mandatory
protective equipment, despite the high level of contact in the game. Some players do opt to wear head
gear or mouthguards, and also shin guards to protect against cleats.
There are a number of positions on the field, generally divided

Analysis Of The Book Montana
I woke up in the long, 30 foot 5th wheel camper. My grandparents and I drove the camper up to
Howard Lake. Howard Lake was just 12 miles outside of Libby, and the home of several different
kinds of wildlife, ranging from tiny squirrels to wolves, moose, and bears. Just days before my
grandparents and I had arrived to the campsite, the word was out that two bears had been attracted to a
moose carcass. Fearing the campsite was closed, our bunch later arrived, and sure enough, it was
open. My story begins on our third day at the camp. This was just one of the several interesting events
that had occurred while in Montana. While the day was young, the wonder of what activities might be
available trekked our minds. The water seemed just too ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There were dozens of signs of wildlife, from Mountain Lion scat, to bear scat, to racoon tracks.
Average size orange plates were nailed to several different trees along the way, and we even came
across a tree that had seemingly been struck by lightning. The forest was thick with brush and downed
sticks and logs. It was similar to a forest from Washington. If you ve ever seen The Revenant, it s the
same forest they filmed the movie in.
Soon arrived the bear. With Zebbie in the front, my grandpa second, with the gun, me behind him, and
my grandma in the back, we kept trekking through the trail. There was a fairly steep slope to my left,
and a clearing to my right. As we walked, I suddenly heard a massive clash of two logs and the
crashing and snapping of sticks. I peered up the slope to the source of the sound, with my grandma
looking the same way. My grandpa didn t hear it, as he has failing ears.
I kept searching my field of view for anything.
There s definitely something up there. It sounded big. I fretted.
Definitely. My grandma replied.
Suddenly, the voice of the bear echoed down the slope, and into our ears.
Oof! The bear bellowed deeply.
The massive, cinnamon brown Grizzly bolted across the short view in between the brush on the hill.
Trees crashed and logs banged together as it ran towards the direction we had just come. I knew it was
frightened. Even a big beast as massive as that still gets uneasy from simple loud noises and

1. Introduction
1.1. Use of biomass in Sub Saharan Africa
Biomass (charcoal and firewood) is the major energy source in southern Africa, particularly in rural
areas. Most households rely on biomass energy for cooking and space heating. This exhaustive use of
biomass cause several health and environmental related threats. This heavy reliance on biomass exerts
pressure on forests and trees which eventually leads to extensive deforestation and as well as soil
erosion. Furthermore, the traditional cooking on open fire leads to severe problems of indoor air
pollution and its associated health hazards. It is estimated that about 3% of the global burden of
diseases is caused by wood smoke resulting in 1.6 million premature deaths every year including 900
children under five (Malinski, 2008; Warwick and Doig, 2004; WHO, 2002).
One of the factors that results in high demand for fuelwood is its low combustion efficiency (Muneer
and Mohamed, 2003). The development and distribution of energy efficient cooking technology such
as improved biomass cooking stoves (ICS) is considered as one of the best technically possible,
socially reliable, and economically viable interventions available that can help to maintain low
demand for fuelwood to reduce pressure on forest reserves (Arnold et

Similes In Odyssey
Homer uses stylistic and narrative features to construct interesting and diverse female characters in his
epic poem The Odyssey . Characters such as Penelope, Athene, Circe and Calypso are developed into
varied and stimulating characters for Homer s universal audience through the use of various literary
techniques. Homer uses the stylistic feature of epic similes to depict Penelope as a diverse and
interesting character. Homer offers this epic simile as a brief look into the inner thoughts and feelings
of Penelope whilst also performing the task of creating rhythm during the poem. Homer writes Her
mind in torment, wheeling like some lion at bay, dreading the gangs of hunters closing their cunning
ring around him for the finish. This epic simile is used by Homer to better understand the torment and
fear felt by Penelope at the possibility of having to unwittingly marry one of her suitors, however, this
also show a level of cunning behaviour as Penelope, although unwilling to marry one of her suitors is
also reluctant to send them away. Homer also uses epithets to describe Penelope s personality further,
often referring to her as wise Penelope , cautious or careful Penelope . This offers the audience a
general and brief reminder of the type of character traits Penelope possesses, mainly that of a typical
Greek woman. Through these literary techniques, Homer creates an interesting and multi layered
female character. Homer uses stylistic and narrative features to help

Pre Hypertension Essay
Hypertension, more commonly known as high blood pressure, occurs when blood is forcefully
pumped through the arteries at a high pressure. This pressure is recorded by a blood pressure (BP)
monitor. At a reading of 120/80, the BP is normal; 120/80 to 140/90 is called pre hypertension; 140/90
and above is considered hypertension. When developed, hypertension is responsible for health issues
and limitations, but it is treatable both chemically and naturally. There is a greater risk of contracting
heart disease, the biggest silent killer, and kidney disease when hypertension is existent. Since the
heart must work more forcefully than it should, it weakens leading to this disease. Pumps work by
generating pressure. Put simply, too much pressure puts a strain on the arteries and on the heart itself.
This can cause an artery to rupture or the heart to fail under the strain in the worst case stopping
altogether (Davey). Another cause of high blood pressure is poor diet and excess sodium levels in the
food consumed. The progression of age is another factor that influences the disease; There is a natural
tendency for blood pressure to rise with age due to the reduced elasticity of the arterial system

The Classical Theory Of Criminal Activity
It is only appropriate to believe that the severity of penalties given to an individual whom committed a
crime should be proportionate to the crime in which they engaged in, no more than what is necessary,
but enough in order to deter the offender from participating in another crime. This approach is applied
in such ways because it is believed that criminal activity is a rational choice, chosen because they
perceive it to be in their best interest. Criminals make a rational choice and choose to do criminal acts
due to maximum pleasure and minimum pain (Classical School of Criminology, 2012) Cesare
Beccaria contributed to the classical theory greatly, and introduced several attributions to the justice
system which advanced it immensely. Views were consistent with Beccaria s utilitarian beliefs that
sought to maximize the public benefit by achieving the greatest amount of good for the most people .
(Newman, Freilich 133 1997; Newman Margongiu, 1997) The Classical Theory has resulted in
positive advancements in the justice system for various reasons. Firstly, it is forward looking
utilitarian models designed to promote the public good (Freilich, J., 2014, 138), also, it embraces
scientific principles to achieve their goals and seek to temper harsh punishments of their times
(Freilich, J., 2014, 138). These are beneficial for the justice system because communities

Analysis Of The Creation Of Art ( Encyclopedia Brittanica...
Mimesis: The basic theoretical principle in the creation of art (Encyclopedia Brittanica). Mimesis was
a term and principle used by both Plato and Aristotle. According to Plato, art is an imitation of and
imitation when compared to the forms. What he means by this is that an art creation is an imitation of
something physical, which in itself is an imitation of a form. Aristotle believes artist creations are an
imitation of an action . This is interpreted as art is the imitation of the action of life. Together they
both agree that artistic creations are imitations of the truth or imitations of the forms. Rather than
seeing artistic creations as imitations, I argue that art is an individuals perception of the forms, as well
as it is the closest an individual can come to comprehending the forms. The supporting reasons for this
argument include proving that the sensible are in fact artworks in their own way, that everyones
perception of the forms are different, and that art is the closest way of portraying our versions of the
forms. To begin, the Republic by Plato presents us with the allegory of the cave. In the cave there are
people who can only see shadows cast on the wall. The shadows are cast by puppeteers (the divine)
and the puppets that represent the forms or the real objects. To the prisoners or everyday man, these
shadows are interpretations or perceptions of the real. Without the ability to see the true objects, the

Sustainable Agriculture Is Not Good For The Environment
Sustainable agriculture means to manage farms in a way that does not exploit and deplete the natural
resources. Sustainable agriculture is when farmers adapt practices that enrich the soil, protect the
waterways, and enable biodiversity.
One best practice that supports sustainable agriculture is crop rotation. Crop rotation is not new; I
remember learning about this in the third grade. Soil needs time to rest, but an open field with exposed
soil is not good for the environment. Planting cover crops during this resting period keeps the soil in
tact and possible pesticides from running off and causing damage to our waterways. When we explore
natural fields and forests, we find a variety of plants. This is not by chance; nature has a way of
protecting the environment and embracing diversity. Farmers are realizing agriculture sustainability
when they learn from nature and intersperse their crops. Mixing crops provide natural pesticides,
protect the soil, and promotes biodiversity. Instead of acres and acres of the same plant, farmers are
learning that mixing up the crops can help enrich the soil and positively effects to the environment.
Farmers are also integrating farm animal production with their fields. When properly balanced, cattle
can graze fields that are resting. Cover crops such as clover protect the soil and are very healthy for
cattle. Nutrients are returned back to the soil in the form of mature, it is a natural cycle, and when
managed, has positive

Pay It Forward Movie Analysis
A great movie captures the audience by creating a realistic depiction of the life and development of
dynamic characters. One magical moment in Pay it Forward, occurs when Mr. Simonet and Arlene
kiss for the first time a distraught mother at rock bottom with alcohol and work, and her son s astute
social studies teacher, turned lovers. Scandalous! The movie Pay it Forward was directed by Mimi
Leder, and produced by Warner Brothers Studio in 2000. Pay it Forward has been rated two out of five
stars by Rotten Tomatoes, and three and a half out of five stars by IMDb. It tells the story of an eleven
year old boy, Trevor McKinney (Haley Joel Osment) doing a social studies project for his teacher, Mr.

One criterion of a good movie is its use of dynamic character development. This can be seen in the
scene where Arlene s ex husband, Ricky (Jon Bon Jovi) returns home. He becomes drunk and starts
verbally abusing Arlene and threatening Trevor. No longer a submissive wife, she quickly throws
Ricky out of the house. Arlene has learned to protect herself and her son, rather than please a man.
Another example is the development of Mr. Simonet. In the beginning of the movie, he was a harsh
teacher who showed little sympathy. Through his relationship with Arlene, Mr. Simonet grows to be
compassionate and sympathetic towards the McKinney s situation. This use of dynamic character
development implies a sense of motion and drives the plot. Furthermore, the musical selection for a
movie is just as important as the plot. Without music, there would be no suspense or drama. For
example, when Trevor is in his room hiding from his parents yelling, he turns on the radio to listen to
Last Resort by Papa Roach. The song is about wanting to end the internal suffering and agony through
self harm and/or suicide. The lyrics, I m contemplating suicide Cause I m losing my sight Losing my
mind Wish somebody would tell me I m fine are important to the scene because they convey Trevor s
emotional struggle. Trevor yearns for his mother to be happy and free from Ricky, but Trevor wants to
be happy as well. Using music, Robert Townson

The Ethics of Steroid Use in the Olympics Essay examples
The desire to compete and win is as old as history itself. From the beginnings of sport, athletes have
sought out foods and potions to turn their bodies into winning machines. As early as 776 BCE, the
very first Olympic games, there are records of attempts to increase testosterone levels ( Steroid Abuse
in Sports ). Ancient Greek wrestlers ate vast amounts of meat to gain muscle mass, and Norse
Berserker warriors took hallucinogenic mushrooms before battle. The first competitive athletes to be
charged for doping, however, were swimmers in 1860s Amsterdam. Doping of all kinds, from caffeine
to cocaine to anabolics quickly spread to other sports ( Anabolic Steroids, a Brief History ). Artificial
testosterone was first synthesized in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now, athletes can be fined up to $1 million if they test positive for steroids ( Use of Steroids in
Olympic Sports ). The Olympics now have various organizations and committees delegated to testing
for and eliminating the use of performance enhancing drugs. The most recent Olympic committee for
the Games in Vancouver was partnered with the World Anti Doping Agency, the Canadian Centre for
Ethics in Sport, L Institut national de la recherche scientifique Institut Armand Frappier, the United
States Anti Doping Agency, and LifeLabs to collect and test approximately 2450 blood and urine
samples ( Anti Doping Initiatives ). Their meticulousness and commitment was most definitely
justified. Olympic athletes implicitly agree to a social contract of fair competition. Those athletes who
take steroids have an unfair advantage over those who do not, and therefore these athletes are breaking
this social contract. Some argue that Olympic athletes should perform at their absolute maximum
potential, and steroids should be allowed if they assist in achieving this goal. A counterpoint to this
argument is the constant improvement in measured success , that is Olympic record setting, in spite of
the ban on steroids. Fairness is not the only issue at play. There are

Understand leadership styles
1. AC 1.1 Describe the factors that will influence the choice of leadership styles or behaviours in
workplace situations. ( 24 Marks)
Before describing factors that influence a manager s chosen style it is first necessary to identify what
these styles actually are. Leadership studies stem back as far as the mid 19th century with the Great
man theory , just as the title suggests the theory implies that only men hold the characteristics to
become leaders and assumes that the traits are intrinsic or rather that leaders are born. Much later
studies such as Tannenbaum Schmidt s Continuum looked at the balance between the use of authority

Time dependency
Time can play a big part in the style of leadership a manger utilises, some situations require immediate
actions and necessitate an autocratic response others require team participation generating a
democratic response.
One of the more obvious situations by were an autocratic response is required would be in an
emergency situation such as a fire evacuation or drill. In this instance the manager takes complete
control of the situation giving clear instruction to their staff to ensure their safety.
An autocratic style may also be adopted when urgent response is required. An example of this could
be audit non conformance by where a procedural or behavioural change is required. A recent example
of this required a training brief to be delivered informing the team of the correct usage of sampling
containers Vs drinking cups. In this situation the content of the brief is not open to discussion the
employees are expected to digest understand what essentially a mandate is before providing a
signature as proof of briefing, the signed brief is then submitted to the audit body as proof.
Where more time is available a manager may elect to employ a democratic approach and consult his

A Streetcar Named Desire By Tennessee Williams Essay
Tennessee Williams s play A Streetcar Named Desire is based on a journey of the protagonist Blanche,
however her sister, Stella Kowalski, takes a major role as well in further conveying the theme of the
play, that is of course, complicated and baffling and dramatic based on the very vague presentation of
it, there is a turning point at the end of the play where my interpretation of Stella changes as well. Her
top priority in the play was to keep everything under control, she had messed up a few times, but she
mainly desires to focus on the important matters to her, marriage and life. She tries to keep a balance
and therefore conveys the theme the playwright is conveying.
Stella Kowalski is a magnificent character because of the way she goes about the issues that surround
her while maintaining her gentle and refined self. Stella is caught in a crossfire between her husband s
cruel acts towards Blanche and Blanche s lies and past with her sister. Both Stanley and Blanche hold
opposition of each other based on their values and backgrounds. Therefore, Stella is caught in the
middle of their two diverse worlds that collide, where both Stanley and Blanche try to win her over,
but she remains statically passive. However, further into the play there comes a turn, around scene 6,
the plot complications introduced, reform Stella s outlook. These are due to many factors.
William s characters take on an old versus a new version of America which is traditional compared to

Vietnam Political Changes
Vietnam was a long bloody stalemate that lasted from 1955 to 1975. In 1954 Vietnamese Nationalist
gained independence from French colonial rule. Communist formed in the north while a non
communist regime supported by America started in the south. The Vietcong from the north would
fight the south s regime and U.S soldiers for years. March 8, 1965 is when the first American troops
hit the ground. America got involved because we feared the spread of communism also known as the
domino effect. After spilling a lot of blood President Nixon knew people of America were upset. On
November 3, 1969 he announced that he was going to start bringing soldiers home. Vietnamization

People were all dividing during the time of war. People who supported war were known as hawks and
people who disagreed with war were known as doves. Congress brought forth the some new laws in
War Powers Resolution, 1973. At the beginning of section 3 in War Powers Resolution it is stated The
president in every possible instance shall consult with congress before introducing United States
Armed Forces into hostilities. That basically states the congress makes the decision to go to war.
President Richard Nixon was in office when congress brought this forth. President Johnson announced
he wouldn t run for a second term in his Address to the Nation March 31, 1968. He talked about

The Play “A Midsummer Night’S Dream” By William Shakespeare
The play A Midsummer Night s Dream by William Shakespeare offers a wonderful contrast in human
mentality. Shakespeare provides insight into man s conflict with the rational versus emotional
characteristics of human behavior. Athens represents the logical side, with its flourishing government
and society. The fairy woods represents the wilder, irrational side where nothing seems to follow any
sort of structure. The character of Bottom the weaver is a direct reflection of these two worlds. He
brings the rational and irrational elements of the play together in several ways. Nick Bottom is indeed
one of Shakespeare s most memorable creations. He is first introduced during the casting of Pyramus
and Thisbe (1.2.253). Bottom is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Here he gives us insight into his own personality and almost seems to mock those in love. When he
says let the audience look to their eyes (1.2.20), he is directly touching on one of the themes in the
play: the use of one s eyes in love, which according to Bottom means that people do not use their
heads when in love and that it is an emotion merely based on superficialities. Whatever the case may
be, it is obvious that he is much more of a lover than a tyrant. Bottom proceeds to show however, that
one can love and be a tyrant at the same time. When he is transformed into the ass and shares Titania s
bower, it shows his marvelous adaptability to adapt immediately to whatever life offers him. His
energetic love of life, good nature and eager innocence obtains him this entrance into the other world
so different from his own. Perhaps he is not completely incapable of feeling or understanding love.
Starting from his position as a rock bottom realist, he can, with the same vigor and joy he brings to
whatever he does, respond to this power and believe. The fantastically transformed Bottom, the least
likely candidate for the position in the world before his transformation, becomes a participator in the
fairy world in the incredible role of being Titania s lover. But we see thus that it was possible after all.
He can, in sum, be both a lover and a tyrant yet he knows that being in

1. How well has Value Trust performed as of the date of the case?
As of 2005, Value Trust had outperformed its benchmark index, the S P 500, for 14 years
consecutively. Given that the next longest period of sustained performance was only half as long, 14
consecutive years of excellent performance set a record as the longest streak of success for any
manager in the mutual fund industry. The average annual total return for the past 15 years was 14.6%,
which was higher than the S P s 500 by 3.67%. Value Trust had 36 holdings, 10 of which accounted

Miller is an adherent of fundamental analysis, an approach to equity investing he had gleaned from a
number of sources. Miller s approach was research intensive and highly concentrated. Nearly 50% of
Value Trust s assets were invested in just 10 large capitalization companies. While most of Miller s
investments were value stocks, he was not averse to taking large positions in the stocks of growth
companies. Overall, Miller s style was eclectic and difficult to distill.
Several key elements of Miller s contrarian strategy included: 1) buy low price, high intrinsic value
stocks; 2) take heart in pessimistic markets; 3) remember that the lowest average cost wins; 4) be wary
of valuation illusions; 5) take the long view; 6) look for cyclical and secular underpricing; 7) buy low
expectation stocks; 8) take risks.

The Efficient Market Hypothesis (EMH) states that it is impossible to beat the market because stock
market efficiency causes existing share prices to always incorporate and reflect all relevant
information.
According to the EMH, stocks always trade at their fair value on stock exchanges, making it
impossible for investors to either purchase undervalued stocks or sell stocks for inflated prices. Thus,
portfolio managers should find it impossible to outperform the overall

How Lincoln Changed America
Do you know who was the most famous and influential president of the United States is? He is a man
that freed all of the African Americans and ended slavery for good. Abraham Lincoln was elected
president during one of the most critical times ever. The north and the south were in conflict and soon
war broke out, and a stressed Lincoln had to think of what to do. Abraham Lincoln knew he had to act
fast to control the war and hopefully keep the south from winning their Independence.
As commander in chief Abraham Lincoln had to act quickly and wisely. And he did just that. He kept
many border states loyal to the Union because he chose to support them and not take control of them.
Because Abraham Lincoln won over most of the border states, the north won the war. And the biggest
reason the Union won the war and kept the country together is because Abe made wise decisions and
influenced his army and citizens to win and kept the country from falling apart. Lincoln ... Show more

The Value Of Goodwill And Goodwill Essay
What is goodwill? Based on the information on the internet, goodwill is defined as the excess of
purchase price over the fair market value of a company s identifiable assets and liabilities. Moreover,
goodwill is reported as a non current asset on the balance sheet. But the U.S companies are not
required to amortize the record amount of goodwill since 2001. Because the value of goodwill is
highly subjective, the accounting standard requires the goodwill to have impairment test at least once
per year in order to determine the amount of goodwill. However, when reporting the goodwill in terms
of valuation and impairment, there are some rules that people need to follow under the US GAAP.
Moreover, there are also some similarities and differences regarding valuation and impairment of
goodwill between US GAAP(Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and IFRS(International
Financial Reporting Standards). First of all, under US GAAP on ASC 805, the value of goodwill can
be recognized initially by measuring any excess of the fair value of the acquired business over the fair
value of the net identifiable assets acquired. According to the ASC 805 30 30 1 from the FASB
website, it mentions that The acquirer shall recognize goodwill as of the acquisition date, measured as
the excess of (a) over (b): (a) The aggregate of the following: (1) The consideration transferred

Essay on Functionalism in Education
Having attended public schools throughout my childhood and adolescence, I never was familiar with
the term functionalism and its many elements. After observing and analyzing my field placement
classroom I have come to understand the concept of functionalism to some extent. In general,
functionalists see schools as serving to socialize students to adapt to the economic, political, and social
institutions of that society (Feinberg, p.6, 2004). They also theorize that in order for societies to
survive, they must carry out vital functions such as, attaining fundamental knowledge and acquiring
essential skills and proficiency, acknowledging certain norms and values within their community, and
recognizing authority figures. It is also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As soon as their teacher, Mrs. Root asked them to settle down, they instantly became silent. This is an
example of an unspoken expectation of the teacher and is one of many hidden curriculums that I
witnessed in the classroom. Another instance was during instruction; Mrs. Root had asked a question
pertaining to shapes and who ever knew the answer, demonstrated this particular hidden curriculum by
raising their hand. The functionalist concept, hidden curriculum, is best defined as organizational
features and routines of school life that provide the structure needed to develop the psychological
dispositions appropriate for work and citizenship in industrial society (Feinberg, p. 21, 2004). It is
intended to assist in achieving norms, learning one s position in society, and how to think of oneself.
Hidden curriculum has also been explained as making the transition from family to the real world less
difficult. This concept applies to the examples I gave because when the teacher asked the students to
settle down, they instantly knew that they needed to follow directions. The idea that teachers are
authority figures and deserve to be respected is instilled in children at a very young age and is
expected to be upheld. As for students raising their hands when wanting to speak or answer a question,
this has also been implanted in children s minds and is a norm in today s society. I conducted my

investment objective defines what each mutual fund s long term goals are. It includes things such as

What Makes Good People Do Bad Things By Susan Dittman
Describing someone with the word evil refers to them committing an action that is considered
immoral and malicious. Evil people pull off these type acts: robbing a bank, violent killings of living
creatures, and even mental abuse through verbal or physical actions. Many people always wonder,
what was the initial purpose of committing such inhumane actions? They may say hatred, anger, and
revenge are some of the causes of evil. Although these traits do cause the idea of evil in an individual,
the inspiration for iniquitous intents is in fact sprouted through the unideal human traits of apathy and
ego.
One of the human traits that cause evil is apathy; for it makes people not consider the other individuals
feelings and security. Every ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another example is in fact in our society. In modern society, people tend to act as bystanders, people
who don t pay attention to their surroundings. Take into the account of witnessing the scenarios of
someone being bullied and a homeless man begging for money. In the bullying scenario, most of the
time, the people acting like bystanders do nothing about the situation at hand. Typically, the right idea
is to address the stakes at hand, whether calling for help or even putting oneself out there.
Unfortunately, our society ignores the fact of another human is being verbally or physically abused.
We tend to be in our own little worlds when we encounter an event such as bullying due to the fact we
feel as if there isn t a way we can help. Instead of helping a fellow peer with a challenge, we re afraid
to put ourselves out there. We refuse because we mainly care for our well being or we simply don t
believe we have what it takes to fix the situation; this leads to the feeling of apathy. The homeless
person scenario is no different. When a homeless person begs for money, the common courtesy is to of
course contribute any amount of money towards the homeless man; however, this concept

To further elaborate, it seemed that same sex groups or pairings often appeared to exhibit reserved
body language and distance in physical proximity when compared to opposite sex pairings or groups.
Additionally, it was also evident that many of the heterosexual pairings observed seemed to adhere to

Upon analyzing the interactions between opposite sex pairings or groups, it was apparent that the

individuals suggests that there were higher levels of intimacy involved in the relationships of the
opposite sex pairings, and their apparent willingness to display this openly reinforced the idea that
heterosexism promotes public displays of heterosexual relationships and heterosexual intimacy. Allan
Johnson s (2006) assertion that heterosexuals are free to reveal and live their intimate relationships

Research Paper On Sir Edward Elgar
Sir Edward Elgar
I am doing my music research paper on Sir Edward Elgar s Pomp and circumstance March number
one. I will be covering a short biography of Edward, genre of the piece, and the overall composition
and why I chose this particular piece of music. Elgar was born on June 2, 1857 at Broad heath, a
village about three miles from the small city of Worcester in the English West Midlands. His father
had a music shop in Worcester and tuned pianos, so Edward was exposed to music at an early age. He
studied the music that was in his father s music shop and began to teach himself a wide variety of
instruments. Elgar is actually known for being a largely self taught composer which is a very
remarkable fact about him. Elgar battled for many years to establish himself as a composer because of
prejudices of religious backgrounds. Elgar was a member of the Roman Catholic Church which was a
minority in a protestant England at the time. Eventually in 1889 he married Caroline Alice Roberts
who was the daughter of Sir Henry Roberts, a general in the British army. March number one, was
composed in 1901 in Queen s Hall London and dedicated to one of Edward s good friends Alfred E.
Rodewald. The first march is the most known of all of the six marches. March number one was
premiered on October 19 of that same year. March number one is the first of five marches by Elgar s
Pomp and Circumstance. In this piece the instruments that are used are two piccolos, two flutes, two
clarinets, two oboes, bass clarinet, two bassoons, contrabassoon, four horns, two cornets, three
trombones, tuba, three timpani percussions, tambourine, two harps, organ, and strings. The tenary
form which is a three part musical form (A B A) contains the famous tune known as Land of Hope and
Glory . In 1902, the tune was re ued for King Edward VII, and then later modified to fit the original
tune. March number one is often known as the graduation march in the United States because it is
played at graduations. March number one first became associated with graduations in 1905, when
Elgar received an honorary doctorate from Yale in 1905. After Yale used this exceptional piece of
music, it soon began to flourish at different universities. March number

Archeology Chapter 2 Summary
When professor assigned us to read chapter 2 what is left? As soon I open this chapter, the title of the
chapter grab my attention. The deliberation that came to my mind was this chapter is going to be
related to past ancestors. Before reading main thought was rolling around my mind was how the
archaeologists figure out the past history. The chapter talks about the archaeologists quickly survey the
possibility of the enduring substantiation and look at the great variety of ways in which it has been
preserved for us. On the main apprehension of the archeology is to study the artifacts, moveable
objects which are made by humans, which provide evidence to help get answer questions about the
past. Non movable artifacts such as postholes, floors, ditches, etc. are known as feature. The location
which shows the significant traces of human activity, where artifacts, structure, feature are found

The deliberate and accidental activities of human beings are known as cultural formation processes.
So through cultural formation processes we find out what people, past and present, and have done to
it. Natural events that effect archeological sites such as volcanic ash covering an ancient city or wind
borne sand or soil burying artifacts are called natural formation processes. Through natural formation
processes we find out natural condition such as soil and climates have preserved or destroyed.
Inorganic materials such as stone, clay, and metal frequently survive far better than organic materials
such as bone, wood, or textiles. The survival of organic materials be determined by on the matrix that
surrounds them and the climate they were dropped in. the acidic soils of tropical climates are the most
disparaging to organic materials, while on the other hand dry, desert environments and extremely cold

Picture Superiority Effect
By referencing and analyzing other experiments and research that supports the belief that the Picture
Superiority Effect is evident in memory recall, we were able to review prior research and take away
the positive aspects of the experiment as well as recognize what didn t work in order to create the ideal
experiment. The article Directed Forgetting: Comparing Pictures and Words , proposed a hypothesis
and conducted an experiment in support of the Picture Superiority Effect ; authors Quinlan, Taylor,

Executive Summary
Primary problem
Mr. Hyland is trying to find suitable markets for expanding his granite rock business profitably by
relinquishing some control of his business. Mr. Hyland is also concerned with achieving a balance
between his local business interests and family life in Canada.
Alternatives 1. Keep ongoing operations as is (status quo) 2. Service Boston, Hamburg and London
only 3. Expand to Tokyo and Amsterdam (in addition to Boston, Hamburg and London)
Facts considered 1. There is a significant household gardening market, especially in USA 2. The ...

Higher prices lead to lower demand compared to the competitors granite products. Delays will also
lead to poor service, meaning lower goodwill as well as lost sales. 2. The average cost of auto propane
trading worldwide at US$6.40 is expected to rise given growing global fuel demand. The higher cost
of auto propane will also increase the price of the granite products that MNG intends to ship to foreign
markets. 3. The Canadian gardening market is heavily saturated, and even more so as the granite
business grows. With the advent of the internet, customers have more options to find cheaper
alternatives to MNG s products. This also means the company s market share is significantly reduced.
4. Language and social differences in potential markets act as barriers to business activities. Without
knowledge of the foreign languages, conducting business transactions becomes harder. The culture
differences make it even more complicated, since there are differences in business etiquette depending
on the country. 5. Balancing family time and business is also important for Mr. Hyland. Running a
business like this is time consuming and gets in the way of his aim for more family time.

My Experience Of Writing
As a child, writing was foreign to me. I spent most of my time playing in the grand outdoors with my
sister, or practicing flute or piano indoors. I knew from an early child I wanted to play music, so I had
no time for writing, and no interest in doing it. The only time I ever wrote was when required for the
annual school celebration of author s day. Unlike Orwell, I did not want to be a writer as a kid; in fact,
I wanted nothing to do with it. I, as well, am the middle child of three; but, I grew up with the constant
companionship of my sister. With my sister always by my side, I had no need to write down what I
thought or felt. Soon, my sister was off to middle school, and I left an empty spot that I began to fill
with writing. Eventually, I decided I didn t just want my stories shared with my sister; I wanted more
people to read them. In early adolescence I began experimenting with short stories; however,
containing too many metaphors, similes, and personification to follow, they always lacked a plot.
Naively, I flaunted these stories about, and read them to all who would listen. My stories of fairies and
dragons were perfect to me, but soon I had annoyed all my family and friends with these ridiculous
stories. Not until I received a failing grade on a school essay did I realize I needed to change my
writing style. Unfortunately, my writing then went from having too much imagery to having none at
all. My stories became dull and simple, the bear minimum needed

The Great Recession in the year 2008
Recession 16Specifically, Freund (2009) defines global downturns as years when world real GDP
growth is (1) below 2 percent, (2) more than 1.5 percentage points below the previous five year
average, and (3) at its minimum relative to the previous two years and the following two years. 1975,
1982, 1991, 2001, and 2008 Freund (2009) describes the evolution of world trade following four
previous global downturns. She finds that the size of the decline in world trade during these episodes
is almost five times the corresponding decline in world GDP. She also finds that, while world trade
growth resumes quickly following a global downturn, it takes more than three years for trade to reach
predownturn levels. Referance Freund, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Later the same day, the Bank of America announced that it would be purchasing Merrill Lynch. Due to
the above factors, there was major instability on the global stock markets with major decreases in
market value between the 15th and 17th of September 2008. On the 16th September, the American
International Group (AIG), which suffered due to its credit rating being reduced, was helped by the
Federal Reserve which created an $85 billion credit facility to stop it from collapse. Over the next two
weeks, more banks failed and the two remaining banks Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley converted
into bank holding companies so that they had more access to market liquidity. Numerous plans were
put forward with intent to solve the crisis and in the end President George W. Bush and the Secretary
of the Treasury announced a $700 billion financial aid package intented to limit the damage that the
previous few week s events caused. The plan was received well by investors on Wall Street and
around the world. Read on On 28th September it was announced that Fortis, a large banking and
finance firm would be semi nationalized with Luxembourg, Belgium and the Netherlands investing
over 11 billion Euros into the company. On Monday 29th September, it was announced that the US
bank Wachovia would be bought up by Citigroup (this

Every state has a different way of executing criminals. For example, Texas follows out the execution plan by conducting death by lethal injection. Our state law allows a jury to vote for death by lethal injection for convicted criminals, and I would vote to change this law. Many studies have been conducted to the find the truth about the cost of executions versus the cost of life in prison. Pro execution supporters state that by carrying out executions thousands of tax dollars are saved. This, in fact, is not necessarily correct. There was another option though, If they were not able to be patient they were left with a bell to ring in case they wanted to eat the marshmallow right then and there. The main focus on this experiment was to see how willpower was being used in their early life stage. One main detail that was pointed out how the children dealt with the stressful situation. • 4. Technology And The Pursuit Of Reaching Our Goal Powerlifters, but more specifically women who train and compete in the United States, use many forms of technology in the pursuit of reaching our goal. As a female powerlifter residing in the United States I have been to numerous competitions and have had the opportunity to meet many others who belong to the same demographic. Therefore, I can testify that my goal is similar to that of the entire group. Our fundamental goal is to lift the most weight on the squat, bench press, deadlift, and the combined total of these three lifts. In order to reach that goal we utilize many forms of technology. I have categorized these forms of technology into three sections: technology within equipment, technology for safety, and technology for information/improvement. Though there are other forms of technology utilized, these categories cover the majority of technology we commonly employ. Ultimately, the technology we use makes it easier for female powerlifters, like myself, who compete in the United States to reach our goal of lifting the most amount of weight on our three lifts because it allows us to lift without being limited by the amount of weight equipment can hold, without injury, and with information necessary for improvement. Let us begin our discussion on how technology is employed in a powerlifter s day to day activities by looking at the technology within the equipment category. For starters, we lift weight on barbells designed specifically for powerlifting. The tensile ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Sectional Title Essay Pros Cons of sectional title schemes Sectional title means that you are owner a unit in a common property, weather its an apartment, partially detached house, mini subtype home or a flat. So, you are sole owner of your living unit but you also have the right to use certain common parts of property that are co owned by all the sectional title owners in this community, such as yard, pool, washing room etc. Pros of sectional title scheme Sectional title has its advantages. For one, you will own your home for (probably) lower price then if you have chosen to buy a house with own land. There is also an element of community, living within a group where people usually tend to become closer because they share certain parts of property together ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For one, you don t have complete control of your property there are these common parts that can be used (and are owned) by other sectional title owners. Management of property has the right to decide about building/property management and you as an individual owner can t decide otherwise but have to comply, even when you don t agree with such decision. These decisions can determine pet rules, playing area and usage of communal area. These rules can change and even if you or some other owner don t agree with the rules and how they were changed, you still have to comply with them. Also, you can t decide to change your home in larger amount, to do some construction works, before you get an approval from the management. You and other owners of sectional title parts of property are responsible to cover any and every debt of the community, which means that if one of the owners doesn t cover his communal expenses, others will be liable to cover for him. In general, it can be said that sectional title scheme has its advantages and disadvantages. It is a good start for young couple who want to start life in their property. Of course, one should be aware of all the restrictions and limitations that apply to sectional scheme property before choosing to get involved in such property ownership. • 6. Comparing The Painting, Luncheon Of The Boating Party Pierre Auguste Renoir, Luncheon of the Boating Party Caravaggio, Narcissus Similarities: 1. The first similarity, I found is that both paintings appear to be portraying an event as it is happening, similar to a photo. 2. The second similarity, I found is that both paintings use colors that may best describe the context of the artists as the paintings were created. 3. The final similarity, I found is that without knowing the artists history, it would appear that both paintings were based on social upbringings. Differences: 1. Firstly, the painting Luncheon of the Boating Party would best be described to me as a genre painting .The reason I say this is because, when reading the story behind the artwork it states that Luncheon of the Boating Party was intended to replicate everyday modern life which means, he based his art work on facts about life. While the painting Narcissus states that The story of Narcissus comes from Greco Roman mythology which means that the story is not proven to be true. 2. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While in the story behind Luncheon of the Boating Party it states that This canvas shows the artist creatively using clothing and scenery to portray a typical sunny afternoon gathering of friends. • 7. Generating Organizational Creativity With Four Critical... Generating Organizational Creativity with Four Critical Traits Organizational creativity is when employees develop novel ideas as a whole or as an individual (Greenberg 2015). Whereas, innovation is when novel ideas are implemented within the organization successfully by either improving something already established or introducing something contemporary (Greenberg 2015; Ferlic 2008). However, business analysts that rank companies from most to least creative tend to omit the criteria they use to determine what makes an organization innovative (Choudhary, 2014; Ferlic, 2008). Furthermore, the gap in academic research in determining what critical traits are needed to encourage and enhance organizational creativity gives us reason to examine these critical traits (Choudhary, 2014; Goudreau, 2013; Greenberg 2015). In this paper, I will first introduce and analyze Choudhary s (2014) findings on the four critical traits of innovative organization. Along the way, I will show that these traits alone are not adequate enough to garner organizational creativity because it is too dynamic of a concept to be established with only four critical traits . To conclude, I will argue that organizational creativity is a multifaceted term encompassing other concepts particularly, innovation, culture, leadership, and motivation (Goudreau, 2013; Greenberg 2015). • 8. The Rugby League Rugby is a team sport played on a field. There are three main forms of rugby rugby league, rugby union and sevens. This paper will focus primarily on elements that they have in common. For the first two forms, there are thirteen players on the field for each team. A game is eighty minutes long and is divided into two halves of continuous action. The objective of rugby is to carry an oblong ball down the field and across the opponent s goal line. This is the main scoring play, known as a try. A try is worth five points. In order to count for a try, the player must take the ball across the goal line and set it down on the ground. The point at which the ball is set down is used as the basis for the try at goal. This is a kicking play, and it follows a try. The team that scored the try attempts to kick the ball through the upright goal in the middle of the field. If successful, the try at goal is worth two points. The other way that rugby teams can earn points is through field goals. This is earned any time a player kicks the ball through the uprights of the opponent. This can happen from open play or on a penalty, and is worth one point. Rugby is played on a large field and the players wear little equipment. There is no mandatory protective equipment, despite the high level of contact in the game. Some players do opt to wear head gear or mouthguards, and also shin guards to protect against cleats. Mimesis was a term and principle used by both Plato and Aristotle. According to Plato, art is an imitation of and imitation when compared to the forms. What he means by this is that an art creation is an imitation of something physical, which in itself is an imitation of a form. Aristotle believes artist creations are an imitation of an action . This is interpreted as art is the imitation of the action of life. Together they both agree that artistic creations are imitations of the truth or imitations of the forms. Rather than seeing artistic creations as imitations, I argue that art is an individuals perception of the forms, as well as it is the closest an individual can come to comprehending the forms. The supporting reasons for this argument include proving that the sensible are in fact artworks in their own way, that everyones perception of the forms are different, and that art is the closest way of portraying our versions of the forms. To begin, the Republic by Plato presents us with the allegory of the cave. In the cave there are people who can only see shadows cast on the wall. Sustainable agriculture is when farmers adapt practices that enrich the soil, protect the waterways, and enable biodiversity. One best practice that supports sustainable agriculture is crop rotation. Crop rotation is not new; I remember learning about this in the third grade. Soil needs time to rest, but an open field with exposed soil is not good for the environment. Planting cover crops during this resting period keeps the soil in tact and possible pesticides from running off and causing damage to our waterways. When we explore natural fields and forests, we find a variety of plants. This is not by chance; nature has a way of protecting the environment and embracing diversity. Farmers are realizing agriculture sustainability when they learn from nature and intersperse their crops. Mixing crops provide natural pesticides, protect the soil, and promotes biodiversity. Instead of acres and acres of the same plant, farmers are learning that mixing up the crops can help enrich the soil and positively effects to the environment. Farmers are also integrating farm animal production with their fields. When properly balanced, cattle can graze fields that are resting. In the beginning of the movie, he was a harsh teacher who showed little sympathy. Through his relationship with Arlene, Mr. Simonet grows to be compassionate and sympathetic towards the McKinney s situation. This use of dynamic character development implies a sense of motion and drives the plot. Furthermore, the musical selection for a movie is just as important as the plot. Without music, there would be no suspense or drama. For example, when Trevor is in his room hiding from his parents yelling, he turns on the radio to listen to Last Resort by Papa Roach. The song is about wanting to end the internal suffering and agony through self harm and/or suicide. The lyrics, I m contemplating suicide Cause I m losing my sight Losing my mind Wish somebody would tell me I m fine are important to the scene because they convey Trevor s emotional struggle. A Streetcar Named Desire By Tennessee Williams Essay Tennessee Williams s play A Streetcar Named Desire is based on a journey of the protagonist Blanche, however her sister, Stella Kowalski, takes a major role as well in further conveying the theme of the play, that is of course, complicated and baffling and dramatic based on the very vague presentation of it, there is a turning point at the end of the play where my interpretation of Stella changes as well. Her top priority in the play was to keep everything under control, she had messed up a few times, but she mainly desires to focus on the important matters to her, marriage and life. She tries to keep a balance and therefore conveys the theme the playwright is conveying. • 25. The Play “A Midsummer Night’S Dream” By William Shakespeare The play A Midsummer Night s Dream by William Shakespeare offers a wonderful contrast in human mentality. Shakespeare provides insight into man s conflict with the rational versus emotional characteristics of human behavior. Athens represents the logical side, with its flourishing government and society. The fairy woods represents the wilder, irrational side where nothing seems to follow any sort of structure. The character of Bottom the weaver is a direct reflection of these two worlds. He brings the rational and irrational elements of the play together in several ways. Nick Bottom is indeed one of Shakespeare s most memorable creations. Here he gives us insight into his own personality and almost seems to mock those in love. When he says let the audience look to their eyes (1.2.20), he is directly touching on one of the themes in the play: the use of one s eyes in love, which according to Bottom means that people do not use their heads when in love and that it is an emotion merely based on superficialities. Whatever the case may be, it is obvious that he is much more of a lover than a tyrant. Bottom proceeds to show however, that one can love and be a tyrant at the same time. When he is transformed into the ass and shares Titania s bower, it shows his marvelous adaptability to adapt immediately to whatever life offers him. His energetic love of life, good nature and eager innocence obtains him this entrance into the other world so different from his own. Perhaps he is not completely incapable of feeling or understanding love. Starting from his position as a rock bottom realist, he can, with the same vigor and joy he brings to whatever he does, respond to this power and believe. The fantastically transformed Bottom, the least likely candidate for the position in the world before his transformation, becomes a participator in the fairy world in the incredible role of being Titania s lover. While most of Miller s investments were value stocks, he was not averse to taking large positions in the stocks of growth companies. Overall, Miller s style was eclectic and difficult to distill. Several key elements of Miller s contrarian strategy included: 1) buy low price, high intrinsic value stocks; 2) take heart in pessimistic markets; 3) remember that the lowest average cost wins; 4) be wary of valuation illusions; 5) take the long view; 6) look for cyclical and secular underpricing; 7) buy low expectation stocks; 8) take risks. 4. What is the efficient markets hypothesis? What does it imply about the role of portfolio managers? The Efficient Market Hypothesis (EMH) states that it is impossible to beat the market because stock market efficiency causes existing share prices to always incorporate and reflect all relevant information. Abraham Lincoln knew he had to act fast to control the war and hopefully keep the south from winning their Independence. As commander in chief Abraham Lincoln had to act quickly and wisely. • 28. The Value Of Goodwill And Goodwill Essay What is goodwill? Based on the information on the internet, goodwill is defined as the excess of purchase price over the fair market value of a company s identifiable assets and liabilities. Moreover, goodwill is reported as a non current asset on the balance sheet. But the U.S companies are not required to amortize the record amount of goodwill since 2001. Because the value of goodwill is highly subjective, the accounting standard requires the goodwill to have impairment test at least once per year in order to determine the amount of goodwill. However, when reporting the goodwill in terms of valuation and impairment, there are some rules that people need to follow under the US GAAP. Moreover, there are also some similarities and differences regarding valuation and impairment of goodwill between US GAAP(Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and IFRS(International Financial Reporting Standards). First of all, under US GAAP on ASC 805, the value of goodwill can be recognized initially by measuring any excess of the fair value of the acquired business over the fair value of the net identifiable assets acquired. According to the ASC 805 30 30 1 from the FASB website, it mentions that The acquirer shall recognize goodwill as of the acquisition date, measured as the excess of (a) over (b): (a) The aggregate of the following: (1) The consideration transferred measured in accordance with this Section, which generally requires acquisition date fair value ... After observing and analyzing my field placement classroom I have come to understand the concept of functionalism to some extent. In general, functionalists see schools as serving to socialize students to adapt to the economic, political, and social institutions of that society (Feinberg, p.6, 2004). They also theorize that in order for societies to survive, they must carry out vital functions such as, attaining fundamental knowledge and acquiring essential skills and proficiency, acknowledging certain norms and values within their community, and recognizing authority figures. The functionalist concept, hidden curriculum, is best defined as organizational features and routines of school life that provide the structure needed to develop the psychological dispositions appropriate for work and citizenship in industrial society (Feinberg, p. 21, 2004). It is intended to assist in achieving norms, learning one s position in society, and how to think of oneself. Hidden curriculum has also been explained as making the transition from family to the real world less difficult. This concept applies to the examples I gave because when the teacher asked the students to settle down, they instantly knew that they needed to follow directions. The idea that teachers are authority figures and deserve to be respected is instilled in children at a very young age and is expected to be upheld. Evil people pull off these type acts: robbing a bank, violent killings of living creatures, and even mental abuse through verbal or physical actions. Many people always wonder, what was the initial purpose of committing such inhumane actions? They may say hatred, anger, and revenge are some of the causes of evil. Although these traits do cause the idea of evil in an individual, the inspiration for iniquitous intents is in fact sprouted through the unideal human traits of apathy and ego. One of the human traits that cause evil is apathy; for it makes people not consider the other individuals feelings and security. Every ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Typically, the right idea is to address the stakes at hand, whether calling for help or even putting oneself out there. Unfortunately, our society ignores the fact of another human is being verbally or physically abused. We tend to be in our own little worlds when we encounter an event such as bullying due to the fact we feel as if there isn t a way we can help. Instead of helping a fellow peer with a challenge, we re afraid to put ourselves out there. We refuse because we mainly care for our well being or we simply don t believe we have what it takes to fix the situation; this leads to the feeling of apathy. I will be covering a short biography of Edward, genre of the piece, and the overall composition and why I chose this particular piece of music. Elgar was born on June 2, 1857 at Broad heath, a village about three miles from the small city of Worcester in the English West Midlands. His father had a music shop in Worcester and tuned pianos, so Edward was exposed to music at an early age. He studied the music that was in his father s music shop and began to teach himself a wide variety of instruments. Elgar is actually known for being a largely self taught composer which is a very remarkable fact about him. Elgar battled for many years to establish himself as a composer because of prejudices of religious backgrounds. Elgar was a member of the Roman Catholic Church which was a minority in a protestant England at the time. Eventually in 1889 he married Caroline Alice Roberts who was the daughter of Sir Henry Roberts, a general in the British army. March number one, was composed in 1901 in Queen s Hall London and dedicated to one of Edward s good friends Alfred E. Rodewald. The first march is the most known of all of the six marches. March number one was premiered on October 19 of that same year. March number one is the first of five marches by Elgar s Pomp and Circumstance. In this piece the instruments that are used are two piccolos, two flutes, two clarinets, two oboes, bass clarinet, two bassoons, contrabassoon, four horns, two cornets, three trombones, tuba, three timpani percussions, tambourine, two harps, organ, and strings. The tenary form which is a three part musical form (A B A) contains the famous tune known as Land of Hope and Glory . In 1902, the tune was re ued for King Edward VII, and then later modified to fit the original tune. March number one is often known as the graduation march in the United States because it is played at graduations. The only time I ever wrote was when required for the annual school celebration of author s day. Unlike Orwell, I did not want to be a writer as a kid; in fact, I wanted nothing to do with it. I, as well, am the middle child of three; but, I grew up with the constant companionship of my sister. With my sister always by my side, I had no need to write down what I thought or felt. My stories became dull and simple, the bear minimum needed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She finds that the size of the decline in world trade during these episodes is almost five times the corresponding decline in world GDP. She also finds that, while world trade growth resumes quickly following a global downturn, it takes more than three years for trade to reach predownturn levels. Referance Freund, ...
