dichlorophenol indophenol (DPIP) in front of various lights treatments. In total, there were 5
cuvettes which all received different lighting. One was a control which contained no thylakoids,
another had no lightat all, the third cuvette was completely open to all possible light, the fourth was
covered with a green translucent paper, and the final cuvette was covered with a red translucent

The United Nations was designed to promote peace by preventing future global conflicts between
the two great powers (Trachman, 2005, p. 382). Since then, the United Nations has made
peacekeeping operations acceptable to member states who would not otherwise have accepted
foreign troops on their territory on the auspice of breaching their sovereignty (Goulding, 1993, p.
454). Since then the United NationsPeacekeepingoperations has expanded to six different types of
operations. Preventive deployment, traditional peacekeeping, implementation of a comprehensive
settlement, humanitarian relief protection, institutional assistance and ceasefire enforcement are
all applied now by the United Nations (Goulding, 1993, p. 460). And to think, the word
peacekeeping does not even appear in the 1945 charter. Measuring the effectiveness of the United
Nations Peacekeeping Organization is daunting because of the evolving geopolitical atmosphere.
It would be easier to measure its effectiveness in one situation in the past. In 1945, the United
Nations charter is sensible (Trachman, 2005, p. 381). Encouraging states to work together and
creating this forum for the superpowers to make decisions was theoretically ideal. But today the
major threat does not come from one of the superpowers but terrorism, weapons of mass
destruction, or a weaker rogue nation (Trachman, 2005, p. 382). All of which do not answer to the
