There are a few key aspects of dairy farming that need to be monitored carefully or result in unwanted
outcomes. This includes the voltage on the fences around the farm, the temperature of the milk that is
in the vat and the activity of the water pump. A constant monitoring system of these three important
farming aspects could improve farm profitability. A mobile phone application will be designed to
incorporate monitoring of these three activities. If the fences do not have the required voltage on them
this can result in animals escaping and injuring themselves. This can be difficult to monitor as
currently to do this you are required to be on the farm using a fence tester. The milk temperature is
required to be below 7 degrees Celsius within 3 hours by the milk company to ensure it is safe for
human consumption. This is done through using chiller machines as if the milk does not reach this
temperature in time the entire vat full of milk must be disposed of which causes a loss of income for

Boeing Case Analysis

Case 3: Boeing Company
Team 8
The five elements group: Derek Dellape : 7551
Synopsis As the largest aerospace company in the world, the Boeing Company employees more than
153,000 people in some 67 countries. The great dominance of Boeing is due to its 1997 merger with
McDonnell Douglas Corporation, an aerospace manufacturer, and its 1996 purchase of the defense
and space units of Rockwell International Corporation, an aerospace contractor. The corporation is the
world s number one maker of commercial jetliners and military aircraft with more than 9,000
commercial planes in service worldwide, including the 717 through 777 families of jets ... Show more

Unfortunately, Boeing jets were involved in four fatal air accidents from December 1988 to March
1989, and the company missed its first delivery deadline in two decades when the 747 400
experienced production delays. These internal problems were exacerbated by increased competition
from Airbus, which was heavily subsidized by a consortium of European companies and governments.
Furthermore, worldwide orders of all aircraft by the airliners declined from 1,662 in 1989 to 439 in
1991. Fortunately, in 1993 NASA selected Boeing as the prime contractor for the International Space
Station, which was called the largest international science and technology endeavor ever undertaken.
Boeing was also becoming increasingly involved in commercial space projects and in December 1995
ten commercial space satellites were produced and launched from a floating platform at sea.
In the middle of 1990 s, Boeing began its plan of acquisitions and in 1996 it paid $3.2 billion for the
aerospace and defense holdings of Rockwell International which was responsible for the Space shuttle
and International Space Station programs, as well as activities in launch systems, rocket engines,
missiles, satellites and military airplanes. Furthermore, in 1997 Boeing completed a $14 billion
acquisition of McDonnell Douglas which was the world s number three maker of commercial aircraft.

Medieval Era Essay
Medieval Era Universities
The first universities in the world were established in Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, and England in
the late 11th, 12th and 13th century Schooling was only offered to the formal leaders within certain
religions and to a few members of the ruling classes. The person who has thought about making
universities was Charlemagne. The education was being taught to most medieval Christians.
Education was about service of translating, organising, copying and codifying of sacred work, as well
as information from the classical era. It was usually conducted in cathedrals and monetary schools, or
in private homes for the wealthy.
Part of the emergence of cathedral and monastery schools came about through the reforms of
Charlemagne. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main educational program was based on seven areas: grammar, rhetoric, logic, arithmetic, music,
astronomy and geometry. Salerno was removed due to place of study medicine and Bologna for law.
The teachers would have to teach students to interpret sacred text and scripts. However, depending on
their different regional locations and the arrangement of their teachers, the curriculum of cathedral
schools tended to vary widely. School with teachers from Spain or who were recipients of the Islamic
oral history in education would include mathematics, astronomy and the natural sciences into their
teaching. Other schools taught people in a different way. The school at Orleans studies in the classics,
while Chartres specialized in mathematics and music. Oxford was considered to be in a courteous part
of England it was near to London and getting to Europe was not necessarily a major journey. Oxford
also held strategic importance, which guided the building of a castle there. Some of the earliest
organisation of top education to emerge in the early part of the middle ages were those in eastern
Europe: the university at Constatinople was founded in 2 C.E. and others managed during the same
period in cities such as Alexandria, Antioch and

Sumi Jo Essay
Sumi Jo
Sumi Jo has captured the heart, the mind, and the imagination of the world with her remarkable
musicianship and her equally commanding personality. More than that, she stands for Korean culture
and art worldwide. Sumi Jo was born in Seoul, Korea in 1962. She graduated from Accademia di
Santa Cecilia in Rome after 3 years of study in keyboard and vocal music.
A disciple of Maria Callas and Dame Joan Sutherland, a Korean vocalist, Sumi Jo has emerged as one
of the most beautiful voices in contemporary Opera. As a coloratura soprano, Sumi Jo is a true diva of
the highest order. Nature has been bountiful to her by endowing her with a fabulous voice and

In 1987, she made her Salzburg Festival debut as Oscar in Verdi s Un Ballo in maschera under the
musical guardians of maestro Karajan. Remarkably, it was only a year had elapsed since her
graduation from Santa Cecilia Academy, Rome, Italy.
Sumi Jo s fervent attempts to sing has been leading her to portrait many great opera composers
heroines with many international productions. She has performed Donizetti s opera, Lucia De
Lamermoor in Strasbourg, Barcelona, Paris, and New York; Bellini s opera, La Sonnambula in
Santiago del Chile; Strauss s opera, Der Rosenkavalier in Los Angeles; Verdi s opera, Rigoletto in
Bilbao and Oviedo in Spain, Bologna and Trieste in Italy, and Detroit and New York in USA; Rossini

Within the musical profession itself normally hard to please critics vie for superlatives with which to
praise her fruity coloratura voice, its dazzling agility and range of four octaves and her magnetic
personality, which sets the stage alight. Recently, Sumi Jo appeared in The House of Montague and
the house of Capulet in Minnesota, USA on Jan. 2000. Interestingly, Dame Joan s life time partner, an
Australian pianist, Richard Bonynge recommended her to Minnesota opera. Maestro Bonynge

Case Study Sterling
This experience was definitely not what I expected it to be; Sterling is a small town and it always
seems like there is nothing to do. However, not I see that it is looking to expand and incorporate many
modern ideas into the old fashioned community. In addition, I did not realize how many crucial issues
the Council deals with on a daily basis (i.e. the marijuana bill). Although Sterling may be a smaller
town, but a lot of government and other proceedings go on actively. Moreover, I expected a much
longer meeting both times. The first time I understand there was not much to talk about; however,
even for all the things covered in the second meeting, it went relatively fast. Maybe if I had stayed for
the work session it would seem longer. Secondly, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first is the level of government responsible. We had a discussion over this early in the course and I
got the full understanding after attending these meetings. For example, the marijuana selling bill came
up at the first meeting I attended. It is legal in the state of Colorado to sell marijuana; however, if you
local county/city/etc. does not permit it, you are not allowed to. This is the case in Sterling, but it may
soon change. The second concept I witnessed when attending these meeting was voter, or public,
participation. As I stated before, not many people attended the first meeting. Maybe two rows of chair
were filled total. If more people were involved with their local governments, more actions could be
completed and things could be done quicker. I am going to encourage more people I know to attend
these meetings, not only for the publics sake but also for their own knowledge and awareness. Finally,
I witnessed many tax and other budget issues being handled and contemplated at the meetings. For
example, the City Manager Saling talked about the sales tax is still on a steady incline that is likely to
continue. He encouraged the public to be aware and watch this so they can adjust their personal
budgets. In addition, the budget issue appeared again with the marijuana bill. The Council

Enlightenment Influence On American Independence
The intelligent thinkers of the Enlightenment period of the time influenced the ideas of American
Independence, Declaration of Independence and the form of government that the Americans
developed after the revolution very significantly. Some of these clever thinkers were John Locke,
Voltaire and Baron de Montesquieu. Without their philosophies and thoughts we might not even have
some of the rights that we have today. John Locke, an Enlightenment thinker, highly influenced
American Independence and Government. Locke stated that he believed there were natural rights that
all people had including, life, liberty and property. Locke also argued that individuals should be free to
make choices about how to conduct their own lives as long as they do not interfere with the liberty of
others. He therefore believed liberty should be far reaching. All in all, these beliefs by John Locke
gave us people the right of freedom which is stated in the Declaration of Independence. Another
Enlightenment thinker that had an amazing impact on American Independence and the American
government went ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Montesquieu was a nobleman, a judge in a French court and one of the most influential political
thinkers in all time. He mostly had the greatest contribution to the idea of the American government.
This amazing philosopher came up with the idea that in every government there are three sorts of
power which are the legislative, executive and the judicial. This idea is what we are currently using
here in the United States of America. The legislative branch makes laws and approves presidential
appointments. The executive branch signs the laws and the judicial branch decides whether these laws
are constitutional. As you can see, the idea of power being spilt into three branches makes the
government very organized and easier to

Imobilizing Enzymes
The purpose of immobilising enzymes before they are used to catalyse a reaction is to be reused again
because they are not completely lost in the solution. We immobilised lactase enzyme by dissolving it
in sodium alginate gel. This is one of the more widely used practises in industry as it is very efficient
and effective. We can see that by our experiment by immobilising the enzyme and could retain it even
after it has been involved in the reaction by catalysing the breakdown of lactose in glucose and
galactose.
Lactose was contained within the milk and as the milk met the immobilised lactase, it began to break
down into glucose and galactose. The results show, as the lactose in the milk was left to the lactase for
longer, the break down into glucose and galactose increased. This can be seen by the colour change.
To begin with we tested the milk for glucose by dipping the clinistix before the treatment and the
result was negative, showing that no glucose was present. Once the milk was exposed in the lactase
enzyme for 5 minutes it had already begun to break down into glucose and galactose, the first test
showed some signs of glucose as had turned from blue to light green. As the experiment progressed
and the milk was left in the lactase enzyme for longer, more and more was broken down into glucose
and galactose, this is evident by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It made it more difficult to give an accurate time of conversion. This could be improved, by using
more advanced type of glucose detecting sticks to measure the percentage of glucose conversion. This
will give a quantitative, which would produce more accurate tables and graphs. I could use a set time

and lactose and galactose molecules, blocking the glucose molecules from the end of the syringe

The Industrial Revolution And The Public Health Revolution
Since our origin, worldwide human population has steadily been on the rise. We humans emerged as a
species about 200,000 years ago. In geological time, that is really incredibly recent. Just 10,000 years
ago, there were one million of us. By 1800, just over 200 years ago, there were 1 billion of us. By
1960, 50 years ago, there were 3 billion of us. There are now over 7 billion of us. By 2050, your
children, or your children s children, will be living on a planet with at least 9 billion other people.
During some time towards the end of this century, there will be at least 10 billion of us. We got to
where we are now through a number of civilization and society shaping events , most notably the
agricultural revolution, the scientific revolution, the industrial revolution and in the West the public
health revolution. By 1980, there were 4 billion of us on the planet. Just 10 years later, in 1990, there
were 5 billion of us. By this point initial signs of the consequences of our growth were starting to
show. Not the least of these was on water. Our demand for water not just the water we drank but the
water we needed for food production and to make all the stuff we were consuming was going through
the roof. But something was starting to happen to water. There are now more than 7 billion of us on
Earth. As our numbers continue to grow, we continue to increase our need for far more water, far more
food, far more land, far more transport and far more

Benedict Arnold Hero Or Traitor

throughout his career serving for the United States militia. Due to the choices which Arnold made
nearing the end of his military career in the U.S., he would forever be known as a traitor rather than a
hero. This is the story of the life of Benedict Arnold.

Arnold s family was protestant, and his mother was a firm believer in the quote from the bible, Spare

alcoholic. The author talks about how the burden of his father s addiction became a heavy weight on
him and his mother. The author goes on to talk about Arnold s successful business in pharmaceuticals
as an adult, and then proceeds to tell the reader how Arnold became involved in the military. The
author describes Arnold as a fearless and determined leader in the militia, and how the marriage of his
second wife who came from a family of loyalists would sway him to betray the United States. The
book ends with the exposure of Arnold s betrayal, and the author describes the rest of his life as lonely,
in debt, and in constant pain from the injuries he sustained during battle. Although this book talks
about similar things to The Patriot Traitor: The life and Legacy of Benedict Arnold , there were a lot of
points here about Arnold s life that were not discussed such as his family s religious views and the

Theme Of Love In Ethan Frome
Ethan Frome was novel about a love story that could not be fulfilled, because the characters that are
having the secret love story are already married or about to be married. The theme that was shown the
most through the book was love. This theme was talked about a lot during the book with two of the
main characters. Between the three main characters one was the string through the whole novel and
that was Zeena. The way Ethan life turn out is because of the choices he has made he cause everything
that has happen to him. Everything can change with just one decision you make. The theme love was
shown when Ethan and the person, who lives in his house so she can help his sick wife with things she
needs to be done, falls in love with each other but they have to hide it from everybody. One day they
were walking home together and the book shows symbolism through what happens. In the book it
says, A dead cucumber vine dangled from the porch like the crape streamer tied to the door for a
death, and the thought flashed through Ethan s brain: If it was there for Zeena Then he had a distinct
sight of his wife lying in her bedroom asleep, her mouth slightly open, her false teeth in a tumbler by
the bed. (Wharton 21). The cucumber vine symbolised his wife being dead but she really was not dead
just sick. This helps with the theme because at first Ethan think him and Mattie can be together but
then realises his wife is still alive, The motif that help clarify the theme is

College Football Argumentative Essay
White athletes seem to play the most mentally demanding parts of the game. They are usually the
starting quarterback, center, and kicker/punter. All three positions demand unique skills and physical
stature. While cornerbacks, wide receivers, and running backs are pre dominantly black positions and
require much more physical demanding qualities like; speed, jumping, and strength. This doesn t mean
that Christian Mccaffrey, a white 6 1, 201 pound running back, can t dominate college football. Same
goes for Deshaun Watson, a black 6 2, 205 pound quarter back who piloted his team all the way to the
College Football playoffs. The NCAA is committing a financial injustice, also a racial one, because
they won t pay black athletes. The conferences of each team to make it into the college football
playoffs will earn its conference six million dollars each. The organization that is in charge of the
college football playoffs will take in about 470 million each year from ESPN. Coaches make millions
while the players of the teams help make that coach rich. On January 11, 2016 players will work one
last time for the season and help earn the NCAA 1 billion dollars a year from unpaid labor. Black
athletes are taking over college sports at a rising rate, and are making the game more interesting.

Paradiso reminds us of how important the people around us are as well as the sacrifices they make
because they care about us. When we are young, we take our friends, family, and our community for
granted. Giuseppe Tornatore demonstrated the true value of the father son relationship in this movie.
Although Toto s father dies in the war, the real father figure in his life ultimately ends up being

Toto did leave his town behind but, in the end, truly did miss out on the many friendships that
stemmed in his childhood. Life just isn t the same without those special people in our lives. On a final
note, Giuseppe Tornatore created this film to greatly influence the thought of community. Our
perception of self reliance greatly hinders our experience in life and opening the door to a friendship is
the beginning of unlimited possibilities. Also, at the same time, we must treasure our family for they
are the base of our accomplishments. With that we must also sacrifice for the ones we love as it
becomes meaningless if we don t. The centralized element that ties all these ideas together is the
relationship between Alfredo and Toto. In meeting Alfredo, Toto finds himself and gathers the
resources necessary to live his life to the fullest. Also, Alfredo has the chance to live the life he always
wanted through Toto and as such was able to push him out the door, despite the sacrifices he had to
make. He loved Toto enough to never see him again. That s true companionship; to put the good of the
other s before falling back on selfish desires. With that said, the ultimate theme this movie produced
can be summed up in one word:

The Party s Domestic And Foreign Policy
Neoconservativism has been defined as a political movement born in the United States during the
1960 s among Democrats who became disenchanted with the party s domestic and especially foreign
policy. That is a fine definition if one grew up in that era and understood what was going on, or if
everyone knew what the parties domestic and foreign policies were. However, not everyone can lay
claim to either of those options as true to them. So one must take the time to understand the rise of this
conservative movement. Once the understanding is established, you must be able to participate in

While the sixties is often painted with the hippie and free love movement there was also a less
publicized string of young conservatives popping up everywhere. These conservatives were anti
communism and against big government, they believed in the free market. Lyndon Johnson was
elected President in 1964, by a landslide. He was practically unopposed. Barry Goldwater was his
competitor, and while Johnson had the JFK assassination on his side, it was Goldwater s crazy ideas
about the Cold War that really made him so undesirable among the people. Extremism just wasn t
okay with the people. An important piece of all this information is that the Democrats won the votes of
the Solid South during that election, which previously had been dependably Republican states. Race
may be one of the largest factors for this. Democrats traditionally had been supporters of the Civil
Rights movement, which caused many white southerners to abandon the Democratic Party. While the
Goldwater election was the first that this was seen, it was the Nixon election that really took
advantage of this. With the southern strategy the white men that left the Democratic Party were
swooped up and now a part of the Republican Party. Nixon was the Tough on Crime candidate, he also
had the anti hippie movement, the moral conservatives, and the anti Civil Rights people. Nixon was

Creative Expression in Hunduism Essay
Creative expression in Hinduism is often incorporated through rituals and daily tasks. Hindu women
have the opportunity to express themselves creatively through the daily creation of kolams, also
known as Rangoli. Kolams are intricate drawings that serve as a proclamation to the world of various
meanings, and also a unique form of communication, dependent on their design. These kolams can
express many meanings such as announcing that their home is welcome to others, announce special
events, worship deities, and celebrate festivals.

The presence or absence of the kolam on the front stoop is equivalent to announcing that a household
is open or closed to the world, a cultural category that sends off a capacious sense of hospitableness or
hospitality, specifically, the willingness and ability to feed stranger, (Pintchman, 88). This can be
interpreted as the idea that the family has a surplus of food and is willing to help people in the
community who need it. This means if there were someone wandering the streets: a community
member, visitor, or stranger, they would read this kolam as a very strong encouraging sign that they
might be able to receive a bowl of hot food or other hospitality from this family.
Another way that kolams can be used is to announce special events for a household, such as births,
deaths, or menstruation cycles. In some households, when a child is born, special elaborate designs
may be made for the kolam of that day, to announce the child s birth. Certain symbols and figures
would be used to indicate that it was the birth of a child. In other castes and parts of India, the birth of
a child may not be announced through the design of a special kolam. (Pintchman, 89) This is one of

Well-Tempered Women Summary
Carol Mattingly, the author of Well Tempered Women: Nineteenth Century Temperance Rhetoric,
made a large contribution to the historiography of the temperance movement and women s roles in the
nineteenth century. Unlike anyone else who had studied this topic before, she draws on primary
sources. While she did use some secondary sources to help solidify her argument, her arguments are
drawn from materials that her predecessors had not included in previous research on the temperance
movement. Prior research on the temperance movement portrayed women as socially traditional,
middle class, and comfortable with their place in society. However, Mattingly convincingly argues
that this is a misperception. Her fresh perspective provides evidence for how women made a
conscious effort ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The way she presented her facts with support was very effective. In the first part of her book,
Mattingly focuses on the choices of women who were unhappy with their place in society during the
nineteenth century. Through this, she makes the case that the temperance movement provided an outlet
for future change. She provides evidence through looking temperance women; specifically focusing
on speeches from Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton, who were women temperance
activists and later a big part of the suffrage movement. Mattingly moves then to exam the choices
women made in suffrage organizations and studies their effort for better conditions for women.
Through evidence from Amelia Bloomer and Clarina Howard Nichols, she reflects that women
continued to gain a voice through the temperance movement. Finally, she examines the rhetoric of
members of the Woman s Christian Temperance Union. (The largest organization of women in the
nineteenth century.) In this section, she focuses on how the Union prepared its women to give
speeches and therefore was one of the first steps to reject traditional women s roles as

My Plans For Your Future Career Goals
These constructs, along with others, influence a wide variety of disciplines in psychology and other
fields. In the final week of this course, you will develop a handbook based on one of these constructs.
This week, you will choose the construct that you will concentrate on for this project. The construct
you choose should be based on the area in which you would most like to develop your knowledge.
Your choice should also consider your current interests in psychology and support your future career
goals. Identify the audience for your handbook and the main construct in learning and cognition that
will provide the focus of your handbook. Explain your motivation for using the chosen construct as
your focus subject as well as how this construct aligns with your future career goals. Research five
peer reviewed articles in the Ashford University Library focusing on your chosen construct. These
articles must provide sufficient information so that they will support your work in the handbook. See
the instructions for the Learning and Cognition Handbook in Week Six for further clarification.
Provide complete references for each of the five articles. Format your references according to APA
style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center. Beneath each reference, provide an annotation that
explains the theoretical perspectives, historical trends, and/or empirical findings within the article that
describe and define your chosen construct. Provide a concluding paragraph that synthesizes

How Computers Has Changed The World
There are 7 individuals on the planet who hold the key to the web. If in the occasion of a significant
disaster the web is closed down these key holders will together have the capacity to reboot an essential
piece of the framework. Computers are a radiant deed of engineering. They have developed from
straightforward number crunchers to machines with numerous functions and abilities. Computers have
gotten to be common to the point that practically every home has no less than one computer, and
schools discover them a decent hotspot for data and training for their understudies. Computers have
made new professions and dispensed with others and have left an enormous effect on our general
public. The development of the computer has incredibly influenced expressions of the human
experience, the business world, and society and history in numerous diverse zones, yet to see how
extraordinary these progressions are, it is important to examine the sources of the computers.
Innovation has changed the world and the future holds greater creations for every one of us. Numerous
individuals have helped innovation. Three of the numerous individuals who have helped engineering
are Tim Berners Lee, Steve Ballmer, and Linus Torvalds. Without specific individuals we may have
not seen a large portion of these new advances turning out so soon, but I believe the future holds more.
Berners Lee is a British computer scientist who invented the World Wide Web. Timothy John Berners

Emotional Flexibility Module Analysis
Module 5 spoke of adaptive leaders and included many elements of adaptability. I found the
Emotional Flexibility concept to be the most important in the module. The concept describes one s
ability to consider their own emotions versus the emotions of others. I found emotional flexibility to
be very important because considering others emotions is key in successfully enforcing change.
Change is an exchange or give and take between the agents advocating for it, and the individuals
affected. Often times the change process is faced with many concerns and sometimes resistance due to
differences in opinions and emotions between the parties involved (leaders and followers). The
negative impact this concept would have on subordinates, peers, ... Show more content on

I will focus on active listening, while balancing when to be compassionate versus when to be firm. I
will encourage understanding the difference between empathy and sympathy, which will help us
identify how to quickly, and effectively help our people overcome negative emotions. Although we
should welcome the expression of negative feelings, we should not allow it to fester. Application of
this concept will cause subordinates to develop a higher sense of trust and loyalty to me as a leader. I
will have enabled open, effective discussions, when faced with opposing views from them. This in
turn will allow me to maneuver the unit s intent (change), while accounting for the airmen s concerns.
My peers will develop increased confidence in my competence, as they see how the application of the
concept is benefiting our airmen. This will also erase possible misunderstanding between my peers
and myself because they too, will see and feel that their emotions matter. The concept of emotional
flexibility is a great tool for productive interpersonal relationships. Hence, its application will further
develop and strengthen the relationships I have with my supervisors, enabling them to empower me to
be a change agent, or assume the role of an executor when various tasks

Affordable Lenses For Portrait Photography
Outline: 5 Affordable Lenses for Portrait Photography
Opener After my last post, there were comments that the cameras I referenced were pricey, and it s
true that as a photographer, you can end up spending as much, as barebones as you d like. To be sure,
you don t have to have expensive gear to take a great picture. With DSLR technology and lenses the
way they are, it s almost like a rebirth for people who specialize in portrait photography. Here are
some cameras I think are solid DSLRs that can take you as intimate with your subject as you want to
go, and leave you with immaculate portraits all under $600 (body only).
Nikon D3300 +/ $400
It s not the most expensive entry level DSLR, but it has one of the best sensors. These specs are
impressive considering this camera is around $400: APS C CMOS | Megapixels: 24.2MP | Lens
mount: Nikon DX | Screen: 3 inch, 921,000 dots | Continuous shooting speed: 5fps | Max video
resolution:1080p
Nikon D3400 replaced the Nikon D330, but the D3300 still performs just as good if not better. Why?
Unless you need improved connectivity, the D3300 is very similar to the D3400 and a lot more
affordable. The 24.2MP sensor resolves bags of detail and like much like pricier Nikon DSLRs, it does
away with an anti aliasing filter to maximise image sharpness. This is also a very easy camera to live
with. Its clever Guide Mode is a useful learning tool that gives real time explanations of important
features, whilst the collapsible 18 55mm kit

Racial Segregation And Racial Discrimination
Race has been a major line of American society since the colonies century playing a powerful role in
the political system throughout United States government. The terminology race has been changed
repeatedly throughout history. African American history of racial segregation created a clear view of
how most racial minorities have been treated throughout history and views and differences amount
racial majority. This paper primarily focus will be the treatment or experience racial minority faced
throughout this historical revolution. African American are not the only racial minority who has been
treated inequality or racial oppression, Chinese American and Native American but African American
illustrates a direct view of racial inequality throughout history which is the reasons why this paper
focuses on African American racial inequality. During the 1700s, African who was shipped to
American were slaves. Slaves were served to white American to work on rice and sugar plantation.
African were primarily located in the south, having to deal with the racial segregation of the southern
state, passing law to separate people based on color. As Senator Barack Obama said, In the late fifties
and early sixties, a time when segregation was still the law of the land and opportunity was
systematically constricted (Obama, 2008). As a matter of fact, the term slavery was never discussed
until 1808, It were doubtless to be wished, that the power of prohibiting the importation of

Analysis of Before the Rain Essay
Analysis of Before the Rain Before the Rain, filmed on location in the Republic of Macedonia and in
London is a trilogy that focuses on the conflict between Muslims and Orthodox Christians in the
Balkans. The three chapters of the trilogy are Words, Faces and Pictures. Director Milcho Manchevski
states; Before the Rain, refers to the feeling of heavy expectation, when the skies are pregnant with the
possibility of an outburst, when people are silent, waiting for a tragedy of cleansing (1). The movie is
a circle in itself, showing the reoccurring cycles of violence and hate. In the first chapter, Words, the
audience is introduced to Kirkil, a Macedonian Monk who has taken a vow of ... Show more content

The construction of Manchevski s story is intended to demonstrate the futility of ancient hatreds.
There are a few moments in the film in which hatred of others is greater than love of one s own.
Imagine a culture where a man would rather kill his daughter than allow her to love a man from
another culture, and one will have an idea of the depth of bitterness in this film, the insane lengths to
which men can be driven by belief and prejudice ( Ebert 3). Mise en scene is a French term roughly
translated as what is put into the Scene. Before the Rain, uses examples of mise en scene through out
the movie. Each of the three chapters is opened with a plane flying across a blue sky. The purpose to
incorporate the plane in each part is used by Manchevski to show a sense of escape. In the third
chapter, the plane Aleksander is on lands in Macedonia. This symbolizes Aleksander s desire to be
home, while the other citizens of Albania and Macedonia would rather escape by flying away. The
deliberate use of the sky in each chapter of the movie is used by Manchevski to show the heavy
expectation... when the people are silent, waiting for a tragedy of cleansing (Manchevski 1). Kirkil,
Anne and Aleksander all are filmed vomiting, implying that the realization of violence amongst people
is nauseating to them. Often children are shown with guns, and in one scene a gun is taken from a
child and given to a retard,

Hotel California Analysis Essay
The Eagles Hotel California Full Analysis
Musically, Hotel California can be said to be the Eagles greatest accomplishment in their career. It can
also be thought of as the album that gave a complete concept of the Eagles. Each member of the band
is contributing to the music and is playing a mixture of instruments. With this range usage of the
members, the album has a complete cohesive feel. During this time of the Eagles career, they had five
members; Don Henley, Don Felder, Glenn Frey, Joe Walsh and Randy Meisner. Like mentioned
previously all members sang in this album, all members wrote and all members played which allowed
for the album to be a complete concept of the band.

The song was written by Don Felder, Don Henley and Glenn Frey in 1976 however in his interview

most of the song Hotel California. However the later creation of the album and single was the names

According to the band, Hotel California is a song about materialism in American. It is an
understanding of the temptation and greed that fills the streets, especially in the lifestyle of people
living in California. Don Henley, once said, It s basically a song about the dark underbelly of the
American dream and about excess in America, which is something we knew a lot about Ultimate

Henley, on CBS s 60 minutes quoted that It s a song about the dark underbelly of the American
Dream, and about excess in America which was something we knew about (CBS.com). Nevertheless
of the true meaning, the popular culture of the time the song was released believed that it was satanic
and devil driven. A radical Christian church commented that the song referenced the Church of Satan,
located in California. With these accusations of Hotel California , did a reputation of the band begin.

Tectonic Convergence At The Eurasian And African
Plate tectonic convergence at a rate of about 4 mm/year between the Eurasian and African. Plates
dominates the straits of Gibraltar (Argus et al., 1989). The stratigraphic evolution of the sediment
drifts is therefore greatly influenced by both regional tectonics and ocean circulation (Medialdea et al.,
2009; Lopes et al., 2006; Terrinha et al., 2009; Zitellini et al., 2009). Coring results from Expedition
339 showed that initial contourite formation started at about 4.5 to 4.2 Ma ago with more prominent
formation of the contourite drifts taking place in the Quaternary (Expedition 339 Scientists, 2012).
Today, circulation passing through the straits of Gibraltar is noticeable and identifiable by the
exchange of warm and salty MOW with cool and less salty North Atlantic water flowing into the
Mediterranean Sea. The MOW has a temperature of about 12°C. The sill depth of the straits of
Gibraltar known as the Camarinal Sill is about 280 m. The mixing of the MOW with the North
Atlantic central water forms two water masses, one at 500 700 m depth and the other at 800 1400 m
depth (Amber and Howe, 1979; Voelker et al., 2006; Stow et al., 2011; Voelker and de Abreu, 2011).
The formation of these water masses leads to the emergence of strong bottom currents that flow
northwestward along the margin above the North Atlantic Deep water and under the Atlantic Inflow
Water. More importantly, the merging of these strong currents and the bathymetry of the Gulf of Cadiz
has led to

Disc Brakes Are The Finest
Disc Brakes are the Finest
Brakes have been around for a few years, and only a couple different types of brakes can be
manufactured. The two classifications of brakes are disc brakes and drum brakes. Drum brakes are an
older type of brake that uses springs and levers to apply brake pads to the wheels. Disc brakes are a
newer type of brake that uses a piston and an O ring to apply pressure to the brake pads. Which in turn
creates friction to a rotor that is bolted to the wheel, whereas drum brakes only apply pressure to the
wheel (Stockel, Auto Service 714). These brakes have been used in many different vehicles as well as
used in trailers and motorcycles. Disc brakes are seen in most cars today throughout the world; though
they did not start out as the best brake when they were first engineered, disc brakes are now the best
leading brakes out there because of the quality and performance level that was engineered into this
brake. Before there were any disc brakes, cars first had drum brakes that were the first engineered
brakes to be operational. Anyone who remembers driving passenger cars with four wheel drum brakes,
no doubt remembers their scary tendency to quit working when wet, or after repeated, hard stops
(Richards). Drum brakes have been around for a very long time, so manufactures have caught most of
the problems with drum brakes. This creating trust between the customers and their brakes on their
cars. Then the next big leap came in the 1970s,

Global Population Control and Environmental Policies Essay
Global population control and environmental policies are the subject of international controversy. The
rate at which human beings are populating the earth and polluting it are some of the most important
factors that face the global society today. As of March 2009, the world population is about 6.76
billion. With the high rate of population increase, the global population is expected to reach 9 billion
by 2040. With the number of people in the world today and the amount of consumer goods being
purchased and used, these factors present a problem to the state of the environment in the near future.
Over the past 50 years, the world s population has more than doubled and more than 1 billion of the
world s people do not have enough food to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These figures strike a resemblance to how fast the earth is gaining population.
Many scientists believe that high income nations present a much greater threat to the ecosystem
because there are more people in these countries consuming goods at a faster rate than low income
countries. Ecosystems cannot support high rates of population growth combined with environmental
damage. The carrying capacity of the earth s ecosystems are being surpassed and the ecosystems of
many nations are being ruined at a very fast pace. The rate at which country s populations are
growing, it will not be very long before many of the carrying capacities are surpassed. Environmental
degradation involves taking natural resources from the environment and re introducing them to the
environment in the form of pollution. One of the reasons for environmental degradation is greediness.
People are trying to maintain high levels of wealth and do not care at what cost to the environment.
The perfect example of this would be the current situation in Fort McMurray, Alberta. The land is
being stripped of its natural resources everyday and is left behind a barren land. The rate at which the
air is being polluted in Fort McMurray is triple that of anywhere else in western Canada. People from
all over North America have relocated to Fort McMurray because of the demand of jobs there. Fort
McMurray is

Reasonable Religious Disagreements Summary
In Reasonable Religious Disagreements, Feldman discusses the role of intolerance and relativism in
argumentation in regards to how epistemic peers who have a share of the same evidence reasonably
maintain their own belief, all the while, maintaining that the other party of the disagreement is
reasonable in their belief as well. This essay will concentrate on the benefits of Feldman s observation
and the benefits of critical thinking in argumentation as well as elaborate on the main reason as to why
people so desperately agree to disagree in relation to media coverage.
Feldman begins the introduction of his inquiry by identifying the importance of argumentation in
critical thinking and epistemology. He states, Epistemology is the abstract study of knowledge and
rationality. Critical thinking, as I understand it, is a kind of applied epistemology, the underlying idea
being that thinking clearly and carefully about any issue requires understanding and applying some
fundamental epistemological concepts (Feldman 1). He goes further to describe arguments as tools for
helping us figure out what it is most reasonable to believe (Feldman 2). A good argument is an earnest
exchange between different parties that are trying to establish an agreeable conclusion. It is for this
reason that agreeing to disagree is fallacious. In a debate, the sole purpose is to challenge ideas and
claims in order to come to the paramount and most logical conclusion. The function of deliberation is

Characteristics Of Heroes
Many people consider heroes as someone with superhuman abilities, or as someone who wears a cape
with tights and saves people from the most berserk situations. But as award winning author Jodi
Picoult once said, Heroes didn t leap tall buildings or stop bullets with an outstretched hand; they didn
t wear boots and capes. They bled, they bruised, and their superpowers were as simple as listening, or
loving. Heroes were ordinary people who knew that even if their own lives were possibly knotted,
they could untangle someone else s. And maybe that one act could lead someone to rescue you right
back. Heroes are often normal people with normal traits; people you see everyday. But I find that
some of these traits do in fact define them as heroes. Heroes are caring, self sacrificing, and brave.
Heroes all have certain traits, and not all of them are defined as heroic . But one trait I see most often
in a hero is they are caring. Small acts of kindness like accepting the outcasts and the bullied is
something very heroic to me. A somewhat personal experience I have with this has to do with a friend
of mine. He is not super popular or rich or anything, he is just an ordinary guy. He met this girl a
couple years ago. She was pretty poor and didn t have the best home life, and she wasn t the brightest
kid or super good looking, either. Everyone treated her as an outcast and no one would ever talk to her.
But he did not care about how pretty she was, or if she didn t have as much money

Analysis Of The Article How America Can Free Itself Of...
The excessive use of oil in the United States has been a very controversial debate with American
experts and scientists. In his article How America Can Free Itself of Oil Profitability, Amory Lovins
addresses the many different issues associated with excessive oil consumption and the risks versus the
benefits. Amory Lovins is a physicist, environmental scientist, writer, and Chairman/Chief Scientist of
the Rocky Mountain Institute. He has written numerous research articles arguing for the use of
renewable energy and alternatives for oil. Lovins also regularly gives presentations to other
environmentalists discussing the pros and cons of oil consumption. It is clear that his target audience
is the demographic of academics, scientists, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In paragraph 6 Lovins states that Inefficient light trucks and cars, which consume 40% of our oil, are
at the center of our oil habit. And ultralight and ultrastrong materials for vehicles are the No. 1
enabling technology for changing that. He reaffirms this point with many more facts and statistics
throughout this article. Lovins other main point is the benefit of using biofuels as a substitute for oil.
He encourages his point of view in paragraph one on page three by saying that Oil industry giants like
Shell and BP are already preparing to move beyond oil by transforming themselves into energy
companies.
Lovins argument is valid and provides good evidence to support his point of view. He mainly uses
logos in his arguments. This article is full of statistics which may make the argument valid, but does
not necessarily make it a good, well rounded argument. Although Lovins did a very good job using
logos, he missed some very easy opportunities to use ethos and pathos in his argument as well.
Providing information on how much America s overconsumption of oil is negatively affecting the
environment would be a very effective method of using ethos and pathos in his argument without
deviating from his logos style of writing. To effectively use ethos and pathos, Lovins could have
provided statistics on how many

Transitional Objects Of A Child
In this section we will discuss transitional objects and what role they play in the development of a
child. A transitional object is a physical object that helps toddlers to transit emotionally from a stage of
dependence to a stage of independence. The toddler thinks that the object is part of it, and this
transition stage enables the toddler to realize that the mother is not me as well as separateness of other
objects. These objects become vitally important to a toddler when going to sleep and as a defense
during anxiety. A transitional object plays an important role in replacing the mother child bond
(Winnicott, 1953).

Good mothering enables initial emotional development. Transitional objects enable the continuation of
the emotional development by being the first instance of the initiation of a relationship between the
toddler and the world (Wincott, 1953).
Observations of the earliest experiences of a healthy toddler are expressed by its relationship with its
first possession which is always a transitional object. Transitional objects also belong to the realm of
illusion which is the basis of initiating development. This stage is made possible by the capacity of a
mother to let the toddler have the illusion that what it creates really exists (Winncott, 1953).
Between the age of six and eight years, a child goes through a lot of physical, motor, emotional and
behavioral growth where different attitudes and values are developed. This age group is associated
physical developments such as slower growth rates of about eight pounds and 2 and a half inches per
year, more muscle growth and less fat development than in earlier years, and an increase in strength
(National Childcare Accreditation Council, 2008).
A child also starts using gross and fine motor skills in sporting activities. Fine motor skills include
using the small muscles that are found in the hands, arms, and fingers to use and control tools and
materials. Gross motor skills involve controlling the head, trunk, legs, and arms. An early childhood

This includes the voltage on the fences around the farm, the temperature of the milk that is in the vat and the activity of the water pump. A constant monitoring system of these three important farming aspects could improve farm profitability. A mobile phone application will be designed to incorporate monitoring of these three activities. If the fences do not have the required voltage on them this can result in animals escaping and injuring themselves. This can be difficult to monitor as currently to do this you are required to be on the farm using a fence tester. The milk temperature is required to be below 7 degrees Celsius within 3 hours by the milk company to ensure it is safe for human consumption. This is done through using chiller machines as if the milk does not reach this temperature in time the entire vat full of milk must be disposed of which causes a loss of income for the ... Boeing Case Analysis Lincoln University Graduate School of Business Marketing Management Team Project Case 3: Boeing Company Team 8 The five elements group: Derek Dellape : 7551 Synopsis As the largest aerospace company in the world, the Boeing Company employees more than 153,000 people in some 67 countries. The great dominance of Boeing is due to its 1997 merger with McDonnell Douglas Corporation, an aerospace manufacturer, and its 1996 purchase of the defense and space units of Rockwell International Corporation, an aerospace contractor. The corporation is the world s number one maker of commercial jetliners and military aircraft with more than 9,000 commercial planes in service worldwide, including the 717 through 777 families of jets ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unfortunately, Boeing jets were involved in four fatal air accidents from December 1988 to March 1989, and the company missed its first delivery deadline in two decades when the 747 400 experienced production delays. These internal problems were exacerbated by increased competition from Airbus, which was heavily subsidized by a consortium of European companies and governments. Furthermore, worldwide orders of all aircraft by the airliners declined from 1,662 in 1989 to 439 in 1991. Fortunately, in 1993 NASA selected Boeing as the prime contractor for the International Space Station, which was called the largest international science and technology endeavor ever undertaken. Boeing was also becoming increasingly involved in commercial space projects and in December 1995 ten commercial space satellites were produced and launched from a floating platform at sea. In the middle of 1990 s, Boeing began its plan of acquisitions and in 1996 it paid $3.2 billion for the aerospace and defense holdings of Rockwell International which was responsible for the Space shuttle and International Space Station programs, as well as activities in launch systems, rocket engines, missiles, satellites and military airplanes. Furthermore, in 1997 Boeing completed a $14 billion acquisition of McDonnell Douglas which was the world s number three maker of commercial aircraft. The acquisition ... The person who has thought about making universities was Charlemagne. The education was being taught to most medieval Christians. Education was about service of translating, organising, copying and codifying of sacred work, as well as information from the classical era. It was usually conducted in cathedrals and monetary schools, or in private homes for the wealthy. Part of the emergence of cathedral and monastery schools came about through the reforms of Charlemagne. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The main educational program was based on seven areas: grammar, rhetoric, logic, arithmetic, music, astronomy and geometry. Salerno was removed due to place of study medicine and Bologna for law. The teachers would have to teach students to interpret sacred text and scripts. However, depending on their different regional locations and the arrangement of their teachers, the curriculum of cathedral schools tended to vary widely. School with teachers from Spain or who were recipients of the Islamic oral history in education would include mathematics, astronomy and the natural sciences into their teaching. Other schools taught people in a different way. The school at Orleans studies in the classics, while Chartres specialized in mathematics and music. Oxford was considered to be in a courteous part of England it was near to London and getting to Europe was not necessarily a major journey. Oxford also held strategic importance, which guided the building of a castle there. More than that, she stands for Korean culture and art worldwide. Sumi Jo was born in Seoul, Korea in 1962. She graduated from Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome after 3 years of study in keyboard and vocal music. A disciple of Maria Callas and Dame Joan Sutherland, a Korean vocalist, Sumi Jo has emerged as one of the most beautiful voices in contemporary Opera. In 1987, she made her Salzburg Festival debut as Oscar in Verdi s Un Ballo in maschera under the musical guardians of maestro Karajan. Remarkably, it was only a year had elapsed since her graduation from Santa Cecilia Academy, Rome, Italy. Sumi Jo s fervent attempts to sing has been leading her to portrait many great opera composers heroines with many international productions. She has performed Donizetti s opera, Lucia De Lamermoor in Strasbourg, Barcelona, Paris, and New York; Bellini s opera, La Sonnambula in Santiago del Chile; Strauss s opera, Der Rosenkavalier in Los Angeles; Verdi s opera, Rigoletto in Bilbao and Oviedo in Spain, Bologna and Trieste in Italy, and Detroit and New York in USA; Rossini s opera, Il Turco in Italia in Spain; Ravel s opera, L Enfant et les Sortileges in Boston and Pittsburgh in USA; Rossini s opera, Le Comte Ory in Rome and Aix en Provence Festival in France. • 6. Case Study Sterling This experience was definitely not what I expected it to be; Sterling is a small town and it always seems like there is nothing to do. However, not I see that it is looking to expand and incorporate many modern ideas into the old fashioned community. In addition, I did not realize how many crucial issues the Council deals with on a daily basis (i.e. the marijuana bill). Although Sterling may be a smaller town, but a lot of government and other proceedings go on actively. Moreover, I expected a much longer meeting both times. The first time I understand there was not much to talk about; however, even for all the things covered in the second meeting, it went relatively fast. Maybe if I had stayed for the work session it would seem longer. Secondly, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first is the level of government responsible. We had a discussion over this early in the course and I got the full understanding after attending these meetings. For example, the marijuana selling bill came up at the first meeting I attended. It is legal in the state of Colorado to sell marijuana; however, if you local county/city/etc. does not permit it, you are not allowed to. This is the case in Sterling, but it may soon change. The second concept I witnessed when attending these meeting was voter, or public, participation. As I stated before, not many people attended the first meeting. Maybe two rows of chair were filled total. If more people were involved with their local governments, more actions could be completed and things could be done quicker. I am going to encourage more people I know to attend these meetings, not only for the publics sake but also for their own knowledge and awareness. Finally, I witnessed many tax and other budget issues being handled and contemplated at the meetings. For example, the City Manager Saling talked about the sales tax is still on a steady incline that is likely to continue. He encouraged the public to be aware and watch this so they can adjust their personal budgets. In addition, the budget issue appeared again with the marijuana bill. The Council ... • 7. Enlightenment Influence On American Independence The intelligent thinkers of the Enlightenment period of the time influenced the ideas of American Independence, Declaration of Independence and the form of government that the Americans developed after the revolution very significantly. Some of these clever thinkers were John Locke, Voltaire and Baron de Montesquieu. Without their philosophies and thoughts we might not even have some of the rights that we have today. John Locke, an Enlightenment thinker, highly influenced American Independence and Government. Locke stated that he believed there were natural rights that all people had including, life, liberty and property. Locke also argued that individuals should be free to make choices about how to conduct their own lives as long as they do not interfere with the liberty of others. He therefore believed liberty should be far reaching. All in all, these beliefs by John Locke gave us people the right of freedom which is stated in the Declaration of Independence. Montesquieu was a nobleman, a judge in a French court and one of the most influential political thinkers in all time. He mostly had the greatest contribution to the idea of the American government. This amazing philosopher came up with the idea that in every government there are three sorts of power which are the legislative, executive and the judicial. This idea is what we are currently using here in the United States of America. The legislative branch makes laws and approves presidential appointments. The executive branch signs the laws and the judicial branch decides whether these laws are constitutional. • 8. Imobilizing Enzymes The purpose of immobilising enzymes before they are used to catalyse a reaction is to be reused again because they are not completely lost in the solution. We immobilised lactase enzyme by dissolving it in sodium alginate gel. This is one of the more widely used practises in industry as it is very efficient and effective. We can see that by our experiment by immobilising the enzyme and could retain it even after it has been involved in the reaction by catalysing the breakdown of lactose in glucose and galactose. Lactose was contained within the milk and as the milk met the immobilised lactase, it began to break down into glucose and galactose. The results show, as the lactose in the milk was left to the lactase for longer, the break down into glucose and galactose increased. This can be seen by the colour change. To begin with we tested the milk for glucose by dipping the clinistix before the treatment and the result was negative, showing that no glucose was present. Once the milk was exposed in the lactase enzyme for 5 minutes it had already begun to break down into glucose and galactose, the first test showed some signs of glucose as had turned from blue to light green. As the experiment progressed and the milk was left in the lactase enzyme for longer, more and more was broken down into glucose and galactose, this is evident by ... • 9. The Industrial Revolution And The Public Health Revolution Since our origin, worldwide human population has steadily been on the rise. We humans emerged as a species about 200,000 years ago. In geological time, that is really incredibly recent. Just 10,000 years ago, there were one million of us. By 1800, just over 200 years ago, there were 1 billion of us. By 1960, 50 years ago, there were 3 billion of us. There are now over 7 billion of us. By 2050, your children, or your children s children, will be living on a planet with at least 9 billion other people. During some time towards the end of this century, there will be at least 10 billion of us. We got to where we are now through a number of civilization and society shaping events , most notably the agricultural revolution, the scientific revolution, the industrial revolution and in the West the public health revolution. By 1980, there were 4 billion of us on the planet. Just 10 years later, in 1990, there were 5 billion of us. By this point initial signs of the consequences of our growth were starting to show. Not the least of these was on water. Toto did leave his town behind but, in the end, truly did miss out on the many friendships that stemmed in his childhood. Life just isn t the same without those special people in our lives. On a final note, Giuseppe Tornatore created this film to greatly influence the thought of community. Our perception of self reliance greatly hinders our experience in life and opening the door to a friendship is the beginning of unlimited possibilities. Also, at the same time, we must treasure our family for they are the base of our accomplishments. With that we must also sacrifice for the ones we love as it becomes meaningless if we don t. The centralized element that ties all these ideas together is the relationship between Alfredo and Toto. In meeting Alfredo, Toto finds himself and gathers the resources necessary to live his life to the fullest. Also, Alfredo has the chance to live the life he always wanted through Toto and as such was able to push him out the door, despite the sacrifices he had to make. The presence or absence of the kolam on the front stoop is equivalent to announcing that a household is open or closed to the world, a cultural category that sends off a capacious sense of hospitableness or hospitality, specifically, the willingness and ability to feed stranger, (Pintchman, 88). This can be interpreted as the idea that the family has a surplus of food and is willing to help people in the community who need it. This means if there were someone wandering the streets: a community member, visitor, or stranger, they would read this kolam as a very strong encouraging sign that they might be able to receive a bowl of hot food or other hospitality from this family. Coring results from Expedition 339 showed that initial contourite formation started at about 4.5 to 4.2 Ma ago with more prominent formation of the contourite drifts taking place in the Quaternary (Expedition 339 Scientists, 2012). Today, circulation passing through the straits of Gibraltar is noticeable and identifiable by the exchange of warm and salty MOW with cool and less salty North Atlantic water flowing into the Mediterranean Sea. The two classifications of brakes are disc brakes and drum brakes. Drum brakes are an older type of brake that uses springs and levers to apply brake pads to the wheels. Disc brakes are a newer type of brake that uses a piston and an O ring to apply pressure to the brake pads. Which in turn creates friction to a rotor that is bolted to the wheel, whereas drum brakes only apply pressure to the wheel (Stockel, Auto Service 714). These brakes have been used in many different vehicles as well as used in trailers and motorcycles. With the number of people in the world today and the amount of consumer goods being purchased and used, these factors present a problem to the state of the environment in the near future. Over the past 50 years, the world s population has more than doubled and more than 1 billion of the world s people do not have enough food to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These figures strike a resemblance to how fast the earth is gaining population. Many scientists believe that high income nations present a much greater threat to the ecosystem because there are more people in these countries consuming goods at a faster rate than low income countries. Ecosystems cannot support high rates of population growth combined with environmental damage. The carrying capacity of the earth s ecosystems are being surpassed and the ecosystems of many nations are being ruined at a very fast pace. The rate at which country s populations are growing, it will not be very long before many of the carrying capacities are surpassed. Environmental degradation involves taking natural resources from the environment and re introducing them to the environment in the form of pollution. One of the reasons for environmental degradation is greediness. People are trying to maintain high levels of wealth and do not care at what cost to the environment. The perfect example of this would be the current situation in Fort McMurray, Alberta. The land is being stripped of its natural resources everyday and is left behind a barren land. The rate at which the air is being polluted in Fort McMurray is triple that of anywhere else in western Canada. People from all over North America have relocated to Fort McMurray because of the demand of jobs there. Fort McMurray is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Reasonable Religious Disagreements Summary In Reasonable Religious Disagreements, Feldman discusses the role of intolerance and relativism in argumentation in regards to how epistemic peers who have a share of the same evidence reasonably maintain their own belief, all the while, maintaining that the other party of the disagreement is reasonable in their belief as well. This essay will concentrate on the benefits of Feldman s observation and the benefits of critical thinking in argumentation as well as elaborate on the main reason as to why people so desperately agree to disagree in relation to media coverage. Feldman begins the introduction of his inquiry by identifying the importance of argumentation in critical thinking and epistemology. He states, Epistemology is the abstract study of knowledge and rationality. Critical thinking, as I understand it, is a kind of applied epistemology, the underlying idea being that thinking clearly and carefully about any issue requires understanding and applying some fundamental epistemological concepts (Feldman 1). He goes further to describe arguments as tools for helping us figure out what it is most reasonable to believe (Feldman 2). A good argument is an earnest exchange between different parties that are trying to establish an agreeable conclusion. It is for this reason that agreeing to disagree is fallacious. In a debate, the sole purpose is to challenge ideas and claims in order to come to the paramount and most logical conclusion. The function of deliberation is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Characteristics Of Heroes Many people consider heroes as someone with superhuman abilities, or as someone who wears a cape with tights and saves people from the most berserk situations. But as award winning author Jodi Picoult once said, Heroes didn t leap tall buildings or stop bullets with an outstretched hand; they didn t wear boots and capes. They bled, they bruised, and their superpowers were as simple as listening, or loving. Heroes were ordinary people who knew that even if their own lives were possibly knotted, they could untangle someone else s. And maybe that one act could lead someone to rescue you right back. Heroes are often normal people with normal traits; people you see everyday. But I find that some of these traits do in fact define them as heroes. Heroes are caring, self sacrificing, and brave. Heroes all have certain traits, and not all of them are defined as heroic . But one trait I see most often in a hero is they are caring. Small acts of kindness like accepting the outcasts and the bullied is something very heroic to me. A somewhat personal experience I have with this has to do with a friend of mine. He is not super popular or rich or anything, he is just an ordinary guy. He met this girl a couple years ago. She was pretty poor and didn t have the best home life, and she wasn t the brightest kid or super good looking, either. Everyone treated her as an outcast and no one would ever talk to her. But he did not care about how pretty she was, or if she didn t have as much money ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Analysis Of The Article How America Can Free Itself Of... The excessive use of oil in the United States has been a very controversial debate with American experts and scientists. In his article How America Can Free Itself of Oil Profitability, Amory Lovins addresses the many different issues associated with excessive oil consumption and the risks versus the benefits. Amory Lovins is a physicist, environmental scientist, writer, and Chairman/Chief Scientist of the Rocky Mountain Institute. He has written numerous research articles arguing for the use of renewable energy and alternatives for oil. Lovins also regularly gives presentations to other environmentalists discussing the pros and cons of oil consumption. It is clear that his target audience is the demographic of academics, scientists, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In paragraph 6 Lovins states that Inefficient light trucks and cars, which consume 40% of our oil, are at the center of our oil habit. And ultralight and ultrastrong materials for vehicles are the No. 1 enabling technology for changing that. He reaffirms this point with many more facts and statistics throughout this article. Lovins other main point is the benefit of using biofuels as a substitute for oil. He encourages his point of view in paragraph one on page three by saying that Oil industry giants like Shell and BP are already preparing to move beyond oil by transforming themselves into energy companies. Lovins argument is valid and provides good evidence to support his point of view. He mainly uses logos in his arguments. This article is full of statistics which may make the argument valid, but does not necessarily make it a good, well rounded argument. Although Lovins did a very good job using logos, he missed some very easy opportunities to use ethos and pathos in his argument as well. Providing information on how much America s overconsumption of oil is negatively affecting the environment would be a very effective method of using ethos and pathos in his argument without deviating from his logos style of writing. To effectively use ethos and pathos, Lovins could have provided statistics on how many ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Transitional Objects Of A Child In this section we will discuss transitional objects and what role they play in the development of a child. A transitional object is a physical object that helps toddlers to transit emotionally from a stage of dependence to a stage of independence. The toddler thinks that the object is part of it, and this transition stage enables the toddler to realize that the mother is not me as well as separateness of other objects. These objects become vitally important to a toddler when going to sleep and as a defense during anxiety. A transitional object plays an important role in replacing the mother child bond (Winnicott, 1953). A toddler assumes rights over the transitional object and excitedly loves and cuddles it. It should not be changed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Good mothering enables initial emotional development. Transitional objects enable the continuation of the emotional development by being the first instance of the initiation of a relationship between the toddler and the world (Wincott, 1953). Observations of the earliest experiences of a healthy toddler are expressed by its relationship with its first possession which is always a transitional object. Transitional objects also belong to the realm of illusion which is the basis of initiating development. This stage is made possible by the capacity of a mother to let the toddler have the illusion that what it creates really exists (Winncott, 1953). Between the age of six and eight years, a child goes through a lot of physical, motor, emotional and behavioral growth where different attitudes and values are developed. This age group is associated physical developments such as slower growth rates of about eight pounds and 2 and a half inches per year, more muscle growth and less fat development than in earlier years, and an increase in strength (National Childcare Accreditation Council, 2008). A child also starts using gross and fine motor skills in sporting activities. Fine motor skills include using the small muscles that are found in the hands, arms, and fingers to use and control tools and materials. Gross motor skills involve controlling the head, trunk, legs, and arms. An early childhood professional ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
