A Hero Is An Epic Hero
A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of
overwhelming obstacles (Reeve, Christopher). Every culture in country across the world has their own
ideals for what a proper hero should be. Most will say a hero must have these core values compassion,
bravery, strength, humility, and integrity. However a person does not always have to possess they traits
to be considered a hero. An example of this is an epic hero, these heroes only exist in stories and
generally do not possess all of the normal hero qualities. No person could ever be considered an epic
hero, due to the complex requirements of one.
Epic heroes are born from tales of great journeys and overcoming the unimaginable. They fight off ...

Most people when asked who their personnel hero is they name a family member. This is because a
parent s natural instinct is to protect their children and put their needs first. This trait is not just in
humans, in most species this is the case. The reason of this being that the most common definition of a
hero is someone who puts others before themselves. Parents tend to do this without thinking twice
about it. Although parents aren t saving hundreds of lives they are still considered heroes. Literally
anyone can be a hero in today s society. A hero can simply be a person that is strongly admired and
looked up to.. Heroes are the everyday role models of society. They create a path for others to follow
and help them along the way. Having an affect on another human being s life in any kind of positive
way is a beautiful thing and we as a society should cherish the people who help us become all that we
were meant to be.
Every person has a different image pop up in their head when they think about what a hero is. With a
vast amount of reasons for why someone should be qualified as a hero. Most people choose a person
who makes them believe they are capable of anything just by what they could accomplish. A hero
should be someone you look up to and are impressed by all they have and can do. That is why my
hero is Deborah Speer (my mom), her accomplishments inspire me everyday.

Why Might People Say That Compression In Music Is More...
Research Question: Why might people say that compression in music is more detrimental than
beneficial?
Ever since I attended my first concert I had a sudden realization that the music sounded so full and
rich. It made me wonder how people get their music to sound the way they want it to sound. This had
me consider how music is made along with all the steps in the process from writing it to distributing it.
The process that most intrigued me was the production and mastering aspect of it, which comprised of
taking the recordings of instruments or vocals and choosing what to do with them to make everything
sound cohesive with one another. I had learned somewhat recently of how compression has impacted
music both positively and negatively. If audio compression did not exist some aspects of music would
never be able to be heard over others and music would cost more due to data compression of music
files. This research question affected my values when it comes to obtaining music I will always buy

The author argued that dynamic range has not decreased from this process. He says that there was just
heavier limiting which decreases the overall sound which makes everything sound quieter. Some
record producers might agree that everything as whole might have gotten quieter from increasing use
of limiters which limit the sound of the overall song. Many audio engineers have disagreed with him
and say that it pretty much does the same thing as compressing the whole song. They have argued if
the loud parts get quieter and the quiet parts stay the same that the range between them is closer,
which results in less dynamic range. The author seems to be a little biased in the way he doesn t state
that without explicitly the processes being identical they effectively do the same thing with the range

Uniform style helps us scan articles quickly for key points and findings. Rules of style in scientific
writing encourage full disclosure of essential information and allow us to dispense with minor
distractions.
Style helps us: * express the key elements of quantitative results, * choose the graphic form that will
best suit our analyses, * report critical details of our research protocol, and * Describe individuals with
accuracy and respect.
When we use an editorial style, we remove the distraction of puzzling over the correct punctuation for
a reference or the proper form for numbers in text. Those elements are codified in the rules we follow
for clear communication, allowing us to focus our intellectual energy on the substance of our research
(Foreword, Public Manual of American Psychological Association 6th ed., p. xiii).
An author writing for a publication must follow the rules established by the publisher to avoid
inconsistencies among journal articles or book chapters. For example, without rules of style, three
different manuscripts might use sub test, subtest, and Subtest in one issue of a journal or book.

Skeletal Muscle Contraction And Relaxation Is Vital For
Skeletal muscle contraction and relaxation is vital for voluntary body movements to occur. Skeletal
muscles contract when myofibrils composed of actin and myosin slide past each other, which
contracts the muscle by altering its length. The gastrocnemius muscle in Rana pipiens, which is
attached to the sciatic nerve, can be stimulated to find threshold and maximal stimulus voltage. Once
threshold is reached, contraction amplitude increases with stimulus voltage until the maximal voltage
is reached, at which point it levels off. Altering the interstimulus interval can induce twitch summation
in the gastrocnemius, leading to one combined contraction with a high amplitude. Increased stimulus
frequency can be used to induce a tetanic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Twitches are the resulting contraction from the firing of an AP in muscles. Twitches are much longer
than the APs themselves. Twitch recruitment uses external stimuli to determine the threshold and
maximal voltages of nerves and muscles. Stimuli below the threshold voltage, or the minimum
stimulus strength required to elicit an action potential, will not cause a muscle to twitch. Once
threshold potential is determined, increased stimulus voltage will increase the contraction amplitude of
the twitch until the maximal stimulus is reached. The twitch will not significantly increase in strength
for any voltage above maximal. This is because at maximal stimulus voltage all motor units have
already been recruited to contract. The gastrocnemius muscle has a far higher threshold and maximal
voltage that the sciatic nerve due to its size and the number of motor units present in the
gastrocnemius. Along with increasing stimulus voltage, contraction amplitude can also be increased
through twitch summation. Twitch summation occurs when a muscle is stimulated twice in quick
succession, so that the second twitch occurs before the first twitch has relaxed. The twitches then
combine to form a stronger muscle contraction. This process is made possible by the temporal
relationship between a muscle s AP and the resulting twitch, which is far longer in duration than the 1
ms AP that causes it. Due to the nature of skeletal muscle contraction, the length tension relationship

Summary Of Federalist Paper 10
In his Federalist Paper 10, Madison refers to the word factions numerous times. A faction is a small,
organized, dissenting group within a larger one in politics. Madison believes factions cause problems
among other different factions because they the majority always wins. If Madison were alive today, he
would see both political parties as factions. He would also view different unions and organizations as
factions. In general, Madison would see any group which shares a common interest and works
together to promote their community as a faction. Madison also explores the causes and sources of
factions in his essay. He states that the causes of a faction can be regarded to the nature of men. This is

Coraline By Neil Gaiman Analysis
Gothic Horror is a style of literature that is defined by elements of fear, horror, death and gloom, not to
mention romantic elements like nature, individuality and very high emotion. It can also include
supernatural themes. This style usually appeals more to an older audience, rather than children. It can
appeal more to this audience because gothic horror can be used to explore serious themes and ideas,
and older audiences can fully appreciate that. An older audience is also more likely to enjoy the
feeling of fear gothic horror usually gives. A perfect example of a gothic horror text is Coraline ,
originally by Neil Gaiman. Coraline follows the story of a teenage girl (named Coraline), who has just
moved into a new house. Bored and tired of her family, Coraline visits an alternate universe where
everything is perfect, or so it seems. Coraline has many aspects of Gothic Horror, such as fear, horror,
gloom, individuality and high emotion. It fits the gothic horror genre perfectly, with immense horror
themes, grotesque characters and a general sense of eeriness and creepiness. ... Show more content on

The Palace Of Versailles
1. The Palace of Versailles was constructed in 1624. It was constructed for the residence of the Kings
of France. Occasionally the government would hold meetings here. It did originally begin as a small
hunting lodge for Louis XIII.
2. The Grand Trianon was originally a family retreat for Louis XIV. It was known as a retreat for
relaxing and leisure time. The Petit Trianon was originally built for King Louis mistress. It was also a
place filled with orange trees and green shrubs beautifully landscaped. When King Louis XVI took
over he provided the Petit Trianon to Marie Antoinette. The Petit Trianon was Marie Antoinette s
personal estate. The layout of Petit Trianon was a more relaxing, peaceful environment. The Grand
Trianon and Petit Trianon differed greatly with the palace in the design and layout. Grand Trianon was
a unique architectural building that was used by the king as his own personal residence. It also had a
colder design and not as warming as the Petit Trianon. The Petit Trianon is a warm, peaceful, relaxing
environment. Moreover, it was stocked full with gardens and beautiful ponds.
3. My favorite spot that intrigues me the most would be the gardens at the Petit Trianon. After
reviewing the photos it looks like it comes from a children s storybook. I love peaceful, beautiful,
quiet places so I can think and find answers. I love to marvel and let my mind wander in places like
this. I am the most creative when I can do that.

Hinduism Essay examples
Hinduism
Hinduism is the religion followed by the people of South Asia, mainly in India though. The term
HInduism actually means what the Indians do and was applied to these people by Islamic Invaders.
Hinduism is actually a mix of several differents ideals from different religions. Parts of it draw on the
Vedic religion of the Aryan tribes from the north, some from the Dravidian civilization to the south,
along with ideas from Buddhism. From the Dravidians came the beilief of intense devotion to the gods
and the rituals for fertility and other such things. It is not known yet how the Vedic religion manifested
into Hinduism. As in all civilizations of the time, the priests held high power and stature in society, but

This deity would then bring violence and destruction to the world. This ideal of women and of fertility
is almostly directly to the beiliefs of the Dravidians. There are also many, many other gods besides
these three main ones. That s one of the distinguishing factors of Hinduism, the amount and the
variety of gods that were used to explain events in life and life itself. Even with all of these gods out
there, worshipers were to devote most of their worship at one specific deity. This did not mean that the
other gods would strike back for not being worshipped, for each was worshipped by at least one
person. This sense of unity amongst the gods and the people is brought out buy certain texts, such as
the Bhagad Gita. The purpose in life was to praise your deity to the best of your ability so as to get the
god s favor. Religious duties were not only based on class, but also on gender and on age. The center
of worship for these gods was the temple, some being simple and others being extremely elegant.
Many of these temples had a beautiful statue of their deity. This statue was there for the diety to
possess so that they could be worshipped by the people even more. To worship their deity, some
would take part in puja, which was a service to the deity that involved bathing, clothing, or feeding the
statue. Some people were even blessed enought to see their god, even if just for an instance. They

Lakota Indians Essay
Lakota History Throughout North American expansion the Lakota people have suffered some of the
worst and straight forward persecutions against Native American Indians, and live in some of the
poorest if not the poorest conditions in the United States. This is sad for a people who use to be one of
the strongest nations in the Central Plains, feared by white men and other Indian nations alike for their
ferocity and warrior abilities in the heat of battle. The Lakota arrived at positions of dominance
because of their success in controlling live¬stock, land, trading rights, and people. Wars for conquest
were motivated principally by these practical considerations, not driven by aggressive instincts. Their
success in this respect rested ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A small band made a diversionary attack on a party of woodcutters from the fort, and Commandant
Colonel Henry Carrington quickly ordered Colonel Fetterman to go to their aid with a company of 80
troopers. Crazy Horse and 10 decoy warriors then rode into view of the fort. When Carrington fired an
artillery round at them, the decoys ran away as if frightened. The party of woodcutters made it safely
back to the fort, but Colonel Fetterman and his men chased after the fleeing Crazy Horse and his
decoys, just as planned. The soldiers rode straight into the ambush and were wiped out in a massive
attack during which some 40,000 arrows rained down on the misguided troopers. With 81 fatalities, the
Fetterman Massacre was the army s worst defeat in the West until the Battle of Little Bighorn in 1876.
Further Indian attacks eventually forced the army to reconsider its commitment to protecting the
Bozeman Trail, and in 1868 the military abandoned the forts and pulled out, and prompted the Fort
Laramie Treaty of 1868. It was one of only a handful of clear Indian victories in the Plains Indian

grounds, their sacred and religious sites which were to include the Black Hills, the United Sates will
pay restitution and the Lakota will let settlers pass through their territory and allow the U.S.
government to make and maintain a route through their hunting grounds and to not worry about

How Did Humankind Evolve From The Sumerian And Egyptian...
The Development of Writing Materials From the Sumerian and Egyptian Times Today, writing
materials are easy to come by and something humans tend to take for granted. There was, however, a
time that paper did not exist. According to the book Scribes, Script and Books written by Leila Avrin:
Today we think of a book as a gathering of paper pages bound together with a protective cover. For
the books of older, partially lost civilizations, we must expand our imagination to include all kinds of
writing instruments and bookmaking materials we would not have considered otherwise, such as
stone, metal, trees (wood, bark, bamboo, and palm leaves), glass, ivory, clay, wax, fabric, and the
bones and skins of animal. (64)
The question is, how did humankind evolve from the point that thoughts, events, and numbers could
not be conveniently recorded to where humankind is now with written materials readily available?

Agricultural workers kept detailed records of flood dates, seed treatment, yields, and profits on scrolls

Negro writers must accept the nationalist implications of their lives, not in order to encourage them,
but in order to change and transcend them. They must accept the concept of nationalism because, in
order to transcend it, they must posses and understand it.

In 1996, famed rapper and entertainer Tupac Shakur[1] was gunned down in Las Vegas. Journalistic
sentiment at the time suggested he deserved the brutal death. The New York Times headline, Rap

achieves self realization only after murder, and this characterization suggests violence presents a kind
of road which winds down into self consciousness and self awareness, a road many African
Americans, most notably gangster rappers, cannot help but continue to travel on today.

Analysis Of Annette Lareau s Unequal Childhoods
After reading Annette Lareau s book, Unequal Childhoods , I gain a better understanding of how my
childhood affected the person I am today and the person I will become. This book categorizes
Americans in classes of poor class, working class, and middle class; Lareau studies multiple families
in each of these classes, including different races. In the following essay, I will apply the same
concepts Lareau used in her book to my own life.
Daily Life My Mother, Dawn, grew up in a working class family with her parents separated and trying
to make ends meet with her Dad and two siblings. She graduated high school and went on to work at
McDonalds for a few years, before she got married. My father, Jerry, grew up poor moving different
houses every year with his mom, step dad, and five other siblings. His father died when he was three
and his step father died when he was about thirteen. Jerry dropped out of high school without
completing the ninth grade so he could work to provide for his mom and other siblings. Dawn and
Jerry married and had their first child in 1988, a daughter named Brittany. In the same year my family
moved into a predominantly white neighborhood in the town of Okalona, right by the busy streets of
Preston Highway and Outer Loop. The house is brick and was built in the early 1940 s, it is two
stories with four bedrooms and two baths, with two garages, a swimming pool, and big back yard, the
house sits on .94 acres of land. Jerry worked as a painter in the union since he was 16 and always had
the aspirations of owning his own business. Dawn stayed home to care for the home and the children.
Two years after Brittany was born, they had another daughter named Ashley in January of 1990. At
this point Jerry was still working at the Union as a painter and was attempting to start his own painting
business. In 1993, Jerry was contracted with a construction company building 20 new houses a year,
this was the start of his painting company. All through the 90 s and early 2000 s Jerry and his paint

Outside Influence On The Hawaii
Outside Influences Negatively Impact Hawaii Widely known as paradise , Hawaii is a desired place to
live and vacation. Families, couples, and individuals come to take part in the temperate weather and
beautiful beaches. However, Hawaii now is nothing like it use to be the real history behind this
popular chain of islands is rarely told to visitors. Back in early Hawaiian times, Hawaii was self
sufficient, independent, and gorgeous all around. The number of Native Hawaiians flourished, and
everyone helped contribute to the community. All that changed, however, when outsiders began to
settle here in Hawaii. Although the different outside influences may have brought some positivity to
Hawaii, the negative side of their arrival overwhelmingly defeats it.
Upon his expedition on January 18, 1778, English explorer Captain Cook was the first European to
discover the Hawaiian Islands. While commanding the Resolution and Discovery to explore the
Northwest Passage, Cook and his crew stumbled upon O ahu and Kaua i. Native Hawaiians did not
perceive these British sailors as a threat, and in fact Greeted [Captain Cook] as a sacred high chief or
god ( Captain Cook para 1). However, they were not fully aware of the effects of his arrival.
According to Peter Pirie, a Professor of Geography at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, ...the two
Cook visits refer to the problem of venereal diseases among the crews... [to] their transmission from
the newcomers to the Hawaiian population (75).

Hacienda Luisita Inequality
It all started in the year 1521 during the Spanish Colonization period. When the Spaniards settled in
Manila they conquered almost everything; from our culture to our lands. One of those lands is the well
known Hacienda Luisita, named after Luisa, the wife of a Spanish man who first owned it. When the
Philippines was freed from colonial rule, the Hacienda Luisita was eventually bought by the
Cojuangco family. This is where the controversy started and where the battle began between the small
farmers, who just wanted to distribute the Hacienda equally, and the Cojuangco family, who refused.
According to them, they will be able to give parts of the land should there be any tenants, but the
family has officially stated that there were no tenants in the Hacienda, therefore no one to distribute
the land to, despite the presence of the farmers. This decision still continues to be the subject of
criticism even in the present, cited as one of the many examples of inequality in the country.
Inequality has always been a never ending trend topic in the Philippines, and we can see that there is
indeed widespread inequality throughout the country today, defined in sociology as the existence of
unequal opportunities and rewards for different social positions or statuses within a group or society.

memories from the past which is not necessarily bad. Rogerson is abusing Caitlin and she can t say

cheek, and it felt like part of my face was shattering into tiny pieces... What happened to you, Caitlin?
I fell, I said quickly, even as she leaned in close, brushing my hair off my forehead . Jonas cannot say

Speech On Honesty
I am honest. I do the right thing. I have wise discernment. I am knowledgeable of the truth. Who am I?
I am Integrity. According to Marshall Goldsmith, he says I have the quality of possessing and adhering
to high moral principles of professional standards. To me, I know right from wrong and I choose to
make the right choice and not get caught up with my friends Indiscretion and Immoral. My true
friends keep me on track and make sure that I do the right thing. They have told me that I have the
scent of fresh clothes, they notice me as clean. They say they hear kind and positive words from me. If
they could eat me, they say I would have the taste of a just baked funnel cake from the fair. My friends
say they see me doing positive actions when I do not know that they are watching. I give thanks for
my friends Honesty, Discernment, and Good Character. They shape me into who I desire to be. My
friend Honesty helps shape me into the meaning of my name. person I desire to be. makes sure that I
reflect truthfulness in relationships with others and myself. She not always speaks and acts in the
nicest ways but she tells me the truth. Honesty, according to the dictionary, is honorable in principles,
intentions, and actions; upright and fair. The meaning of the name, Honesty, to me means telling
others the truth, and myself through my actions and words. For me, honesty comes easy because lying
does not come easy to me. Deceit does the opposite from me, he lies to others and gets away

Abortion Policy Restrictions
Abortion Policy Restrictions in America
Since the landmark decision of the Supreme Court Case Roe v Wade in 1973, abortion was made legal
across the United States. The court found that it was unconstitutional within the right to privacy to
have abortion illegal under the Fourteenth Amendment; therefore, women obtained the right to decide
their own medical decisions without political interference. According to the CDC (Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention), since the Roe v. Wade case abortion procedures are now 99% safe. This
raises the question: if abortion has been legal for more than 40 years, why is the topic still a main issue
today? Though legal, a majority of states have made certain regulations to limit these practices. The
issue ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
States that are strict on abortion policies have implemented it well into their healthcare system. The
criterion that should be most focused on is the equity of the outcomes. The purpose of this research
and policy alternatives is for more access and equal access to abortion/pregnancy education in general.
For the first alternative, its effectiveness applied to the outcome of having a better sex education and
pregnancy education can show a slight change in abortion rates. As there are more use of
contraceptives there are less unwanted pregnancies to be terminated thus decreasing abortion rates.
This decrease in rates can also lead to some women not having a clandestine abortion. Although it
does help with education, the same state and federal policies regarding restrictions are still going to be

The Global Health Care System
There are many nonprofit, government groups that assist with or focus on international issues and
raise awareness for international countries that may need assistance, the most common assistance
today is health issues. Services that nonprofit, government groups assist with can range from
supplying water, food, vaccines, clothing, etc. All of this would include the undertaking of their health
and assisting with health issues that may arise from not having enough of these items or supplements
to live or lead a healthy lifestyle. Many of these organizations are non profit organizations and only
can survive to provide aide and services to the poverty level through charitable contributions. The
issue today with the global health care system is that the poverty level is so high in many
underdeveloped countries that only so much aide can be provided or depending on where aide does
need to be provided the resources are simply not available and resources are very limited in order to
make any improvement, water contamination is a major issue for many underdeveloped countries and
the spread of diseases at times can be very rapid. So speaking of organizations that provide health care
aide within the global health system can range from various types and what their mission, vision and
ultimate goal is in the end. The following are nonprofit organizational groups that focus on
International Countries to provide aide in some sorts: AboutFace International Aficare American

Mercer Self Insurance Case Summary
A third alternative is to see if a carrier with a National accounts division would consider writing
Mercer on a large account basis. This approach would appear to provide greater stability since Mercer
would stand on its own merit and not necessarily be lumped together with other transportation
companies. Mercer s size and ability to retain risk makes this option more attainable at this juncture
than it has been in the past.
Another option is to consider self insurance. There are several advantages to self insurance which
include low cost, the ability to manage claims more effectively when losses for both frequency, and
severity are predictable, better cash flow, an opportunity to engage services by outside vendors or
internally by staff members of your organization. The disadvantages include certificate insurance
requirements becoming problematic, few services provided by the excess insurers, state and ... Show

As presented previously, a captive reduces long term costs and operating costs, provides investment
income and profit which are only taxed when repatriated, provides for broader more stable coverage,
direct re insurance access, and fewer regulatory restrictions. The disadvantages include long term
capitalization commitment, internal administrative costs, potential for inadequate reserving, and
complex taxation issues. Mercer s management has not been inclined to form a captive therefore we
will only recommend one if it becomes necessary in order to obtain reasonable renew terms. This may
become more pressing since the market for large transportation risks has been shrinking. We are
uncertain whether we will be able to find an insurance carrier willing to provide policies for the
coverage required by Mercer without the use of a captive. An example of this would be the inability to
obtain a primary Trucker s Liability or Automobile Physical Damage quote on any basis other than

Analysis Of Cowspiracy By Kip Arnon
This weekend I watched the documentary, Cowspiracy, directed and written by Kip Andersen and
Keegan Kuhn. The documentary follows Kip Andersen s journey of uncovering the truth behind
animal agriculture and its impact on our planet. In 2006, after watching Al Gore s An Inconvenient
Truth, Andersen became a self proclaimed OCE (Obsessive Compulsive Environmentalist). However,
after reading a UN report Andersen realized it would take more than just recycling and taking shorter
showers to truly give back to the environment. Through a series of interviews, Kip Andersen exposes
the selfish and shameless agenda behind some of the biggest Environmental Organizations in the
country. Animal agriculture is the leading cause of deforestation, water

Richard Nixon Checkers Speech Analysis
Guilty or Innocent:Richard Nixon s Checkers Richard Nixon successfully used Pathos throughout his
Checkers Speech to appeal to the emotions of the American people. Nixon, more commonly known
for being one of the most hated presidents that the United States has endured, is exceptionally
brilliant. He used technology to help him plead his innocence, as he televised his big Checkers Speech
for the entire United States to hear. While being accused of accepting millions of dollars and putting
them into a slush fund , Nixon stood firm and exclaimed to the public, I want to make this particularly
clear that no contributor to this fund, no contributor to any of my campaigns, has ever received any
consideration that he would not have received as an ordinary constituent (par. 6)that he had no part in
anything fraudulent. However he does admit to taking one gift his Cocker Spaniel named Checkers.
Other than Checkers, which he receives nor gives any favoritism for accepting, he is an honest,
hardworking man. He stated that he did not care for the opinion of the public I just want to say this,
right now, that regardless of what they say about it, we re gonna keep it (par. 26) because his children
fell in love with it, and he couldn t bring himself to take it away from them. Throughout Nixon s
speech, he presents the illusion that he is in fact broke , thus appealing to poverty. He gives multiple
examples of his financial situations by stating, I owe 4500 dollars to the Riggs Bank in Washington,
D.C., with interest 4 and 1/2 percent. I owe 3500 dollars to my parents, and the interest on that loan,
which I pay regularly, because it s the part of the savings they made through the years they were
working so hard I pay regularly 4 percent interest. And then I have a 500 dollar loan, which I have on
my life insurance. (par. 23) which also establishes credibility with his audience. He also says, But Pat
and I have the satisfaction that every dime that we ve got is honestly ours. I should say this, that Pat
doesn t have a mink coat. But she does have a respectable Republican cloth coat, and I always tell her
she d look good in anything (par. 25) showing that money is not the reason he is running

Summary Of The White Man s Burden
According to William Easterly, the accomplishments of planned development are not impressive. In an
overly simplified process, governments invest capital to provide aid to developing countries (in this
case food aid), it then does not yield a specific result or target, and the aid goes somewhere unintended
(Easterly, 2006). In The White Man s Burden, Easterly discusses the notion that aid aims to please the
donor instead of their electorate, by focusing on the wrong projects, and project impacts are often not
measured scientifically (Easterly, 2006). In other words, development aid does more harm by fostering
a dependency in recipient governments (Diriye, et al., 2014). For developments sake, positive effects
are tarnished by the politicization ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In The Gambia, the government received foreign aid to develop rice projects for the purpose to
increase food security from 1966 to 1984 (Carney, 2008). It is important to note that this period from
1966 to 1984 is a period that evolved from the Second World War. As a result, the justification for aid
and development was to uplift nations from poverty. Furthermore, development was justified as a
moral obligation and as something that advances national interest (Eyoh, 2015). However,
development for the strict purpose of morality or poverty has unintended consequences. According to
Carney, the Gambian government utilized 25,000 hectares of land to facilitate food aid for rice
production. Today, only 10 percent of the initial irrigated land for food aid and food security purposes
remains in production by farmers (Carney, 2008). As these operations emerged, different labour
arrangements (human, mechanical and political) needed to develop in unison. Before the processes
were complete, changes in policy favoured the importation of rice instead of local production (Carney,

What Was The Significance Of The 1832 Reform Act
The Passing of the 1832 Reform Act
During the early part of the 19th Century reform was placed low on the political agenda. This was
perhaps due to the Napoleonic Wars with France which showed people the damaging effects war could
have on the country. However, in 1819 the arguments concerning the reformation of parliament came
back into the public s conscious. The growing role of the media acted as a new method of informing
the public of their rights and the need for action. People were also being made aware through public
meetings held by radical MP s that favoured reform. It is therefore not hard to see why in 1832 the
Great Reform Act was passed.
Old Corruption was the name given to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some had been prosperous medieval towns but were almost completely depopulated but despite this
up to four MP s could be sent to Parliament from each area. These, as a result, became know as rotten
boroughs because they were giving a true representation of the people of England. It was the large,
industrial towns that needed this number of MP s in parliament but these often went totally
unrepresented.
In addition to this the actual elections were also false. Two thirds of elections were uncontested
because people could not afford to stand against the successful candidate. The election process was
not conducted on a single day but held over a number of weeks. The result might not be know for 2
months. There was no voting in secrecy. Voting took place on a platform amid an atmosphere of
drunkenness and sometimes violent intimidation. Corruption was rife in terms of treating, cooping and
the hiring of lambs. It is therefore reasonable that people called for reform in 1832.
The 1832 Reform Act was seen at the time to be a solution to an ongoing problem highlighted by
popular unrest. It attempted to correct the failings of Old Corruption whilst ensuring the elites in
society retained their grip on power. The Act consisted of two essential elements, the redistribution of
seats and the remodelling and systemising of the franchise. The Act released 143 seats that were

Essay On Working At Old Navy
Since my last reflection I have worked 9 at Old Navy. I have continued to work on registers mostly
however, at one point, my manger asked me to cover fitting rooms for someone s 15 minute break. I
was excited that I could try a new job. I had to develop new skills to undertake this new challenge of
working the fitting rooms. One of my co workers showed me the ropes. The job basically consisted of
telling people which dressing room to go in, unlocking the door with a key, placing a marker on the
door, and taking back the clothes that the costumers don t want and folding them. I enjoyed this job a
lot actually and I hope my manger will put me in fitting rooms for a whole shift one day. Old Navy

Columbine Shooting Theories
On April 20, 1999, there was a school shooting at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado. The
Columbine shooting was once known as the largest high school massacre in US history. This
unfortunate event affected the way American schools now take precautions and impacted society. The
columbine shooters were two students, Eric Harris, 18, and Dylan Klebold, 17. There are many
theories as to why they did their actions, but none of them have been proven correct. One theory is
that both Dylan and Eric were influenced by bullies. They believed that since they only chose jocks,
christians, and minorities, it meant something. Another theory is that they were apart of a group called
the Trenchcoat Mafia. Lastly, many believed that Eric and Dylan

Examples Of Meekness And Forgiveness
I acknowledge His power I acknowledge His grace I acknowledge His love I acknowledge His mercy
I acknowledge Him Meekness and Forgiveness Meekness and Forgiveness Two of the most crucial
lessons on my spiritual journey have been ones on meekness and forgiveness. Hard lessons from a
hard teacher. I have not gotten my diploma yet, but I am still on the Potter s wheel. I am still being
shaped and molded into that beautiful vessel he has created me to be. I have written extensively about
my own personal experiences on both subjects, but here I share what for me are the salient points
Meekness The subject popped up on my curriculum during a time when I worked in an environment
where I was privy and witness to so much wrong doing and could not do or say anything about it.
When I first spoke out against what I saw, I became the target of one person s venom. I wanted to

Every culture in country across the world has their own ideals for what a proper hero should be. Most will say a hero must have these core values compassion, bravery, strength, humility, and integrity. However a person does not always have to possess they traits to be considered a hero. An example of this is an epic hero, these heroes only exist in stories and generally do not possess all of the normal hero qualities. • 3. Why Might People Say That Compression In Music Is More... Research Question: Why might people say that compression in music is more detrimental than beneficial? Ever since I attended my first concert I had a sudden realization that the music sounded so full and rich. It made me wonder how people get their music to sound the way they want it to sound. This had me consider how music is made along with all the steps in the process from writing it to distributing it. The process that most intrigued me was the production and mastering aspect of it, which comprised of taking the recordings of instruments or vocals and choosing what to do with them to make everything sound cohesive with one another. I had learned somewhat recently of how compression has impacted music both positively and negatively. If audio compression did not exist some aspects of music would never be able to be heard over others and music would cost more due to data compression of music files. This research question affected my values when it comes to obtaining music I will always buy the original album or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The author argued that dynamic range has not decreased from this process. He says that there was just heavier limiting which decreases the overall sound which makes everything sound quieter. Some record producers might agree that everything as whole might have gotten quieter from increasing use of limiters which limit the sound of the overall song. Many audio engineers have disagreed with him and say that it pretty much does the same thing as compressing the whole song. They have argued if the loud parts get quieter and the quiet parts stay the same that the range between them is closer, which results in less dynamic range. The author seems to be a little biased in the way he doesn t state that without explicitly the processes being identical they effectively do the same thing with the range of ... Uniform style helps us scan articles quickly for key points and findings. Rules of style in scientific writing encourage full disclosure of essential information and allow us to dispense with minor distractions. Style helps us: * express the key elements of quantitative results, * choose the graphic form that will best suit our analyses, * report critical details of our research protocol, and * Describe individuals with accuracy and respect. When we use an editorial style, we remove the distraction of puzzling over the correct punctuation for a reference or the proper form for numbers in text. Those elements are codified in the rules we follow for clear communication, allowing us to focus our intellectual energy on the substance of our research (Foreword, Public Manual of American Psychological Association 6th ed., p. xiii). An author writing for a publication must follow the rules established by the publisher to avoid inconsistencies among journal articles or book chapters. For example, without rules of style, three different manuscripts might use sub test, subtest, and Subtest in one issue of a journal or book. Although the meaning of the word ... • 5. Skeletal Muscle Contraction And Relaxation Is Vital For Skeletal muscle contraction and relaxation is vital for voluntary body movements to occur. Skeletal muscles contract when myofibrils composed of actin and myosin slide past each other, which contracts the muscle by altering its length. The gastrocnemius muscle in Rana pipiens, which is attached to the sciatic nerve, can be stimulated to find threshold and maximal stimulus voltage. Once threshold is reached, contraction amplitude increases with stimulus voltage until the maximal voltage is reached, at which point it levels off. Altering the interstimulus interval can induce twitch summation in the gastrocnemius, leading to one combined contraction with a high amplitude. Increased stimulus frequency can be used to induce a tetanic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Twitches are the resulting contraction from the firing of an AP in muscles. Twitches are much longer than the APs themselves. Twitch recruitment uses external stimuli to determine the threshold and maximal voltages of nerves and muscles. Stimuli below the threshold voltage, or the minimum stimulus strength required to elicit an action potential, will not cause a muscle to twitch. Once threshold potential is determined, increased stimulus voltage will increase the contraction amplitude of the twitch until the maximal stimulus is reached. The twitch will not significantly increase in strength for any voltage above maximal. This is because at maximal stimulus voltage all motor units have already been recruited to contract. The gastrocnemius muscle has a far higher threshold and maximal voltage that the sciatic nerve due to its size and the number of motor units present in the gastrocnemius. Along with increasing stimulus voltage, contraction amplitude can also be increased through twitch summation. Twitch summation occurs when a muscle is stimulated twice in quick succession, so that the second twitch occurs before the first twitch has relaxed. The twitches then combine to form a stronger muscle contraction. This process is made possible by the temporal relationship between a muscle s AP and the resulting twitch, which is far longer in duration than the 1 ms AP that causes it. Due to the nature of skeletal muscle contraction, the length tension relationship in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Coraline By Neil Gaiman Analysis Gothic Horror is a style of literature that is defined by elements of fear, horror, death and gloom, not to mention romantic elements like nature, individuality and very high emotion. It can also include supernatural themes. This style usually appeals more to an older audience, rather than children. It can appeal more to this audience because gothic horror can be used to explore serious themes and ideas, and older audiences can fully appreciate that. An older audience is also more likely to enjoy the feeling of fear gothic horror usually gives. A perfect example of a gothic horror text is Coraline , originally by Neil Gaiman. Coraline follows the story of a teenage girl (named Coraline), who has just moved into a new house. Bored and tired of her family, Coraline visits an alternate universe where everything is perfect, or so it seems. Lakota Indians Essay Lakota History Throughout North American expansion the Lakota people have suffered some of the worst and straight forward persecutions against Native American Indians, and live in some of the poorest if not the poorest conditions in the United States. The party of woodcutters made it safely back to the fort, but Colonel Fetterman and his men chased after the fleeing Crazy Horse and his decoys, just as planned. The soldiers rode straight into the ambush and were wiped out in a massive attack during which some 40,000 arrows rained down on the misguided troopers. With 81 fatalities, the Fetterman Massacre was the army s worst defeat in the West until the Battle of Little Bighorn in 1876. The Development of Writing Materials From the Sumerian and Egyptian Times Today, writing materials are easy to come by and something humans tend to take for granted. There was, however, a time that paper did not exist. According to the book Scribes, Script and Books written by Leila Avrin: Today we think of a book as a gathering of paper pages bound together with a protective cover. For the books of older, partially lost civilizations, we must expand our imagination to include all kinds of writing instruments and bookmaking materials we would not have considered otherwise, such as stone, metal, trees (wood, bark, bamboo, and palm leaves), glass, ivory, clay, wax, fabric, and the bones and skins of animal. Bigger Thomas, of Native Son and Tupac Shakur Essay Negro writers must accept the nationalist implications of their lives, not in order to encourage them, but in order to change and transcend them. Richard Wright In 1996, famed rapper and entertainer Tupac Shakur[1] was gunned down in Las Vegas. Journalistic sentiment at the time suggested he deserved the brutal death. The New York Times headline, Rap Performer Who Personified Violence, Dies, suggested Shakur, who was twenty five when he died, deserved his untimely death. • 14. Analysis Of Annette Lareau s Unequal Childhoods After reading Annette Lareau s book, Unequal Childhoods , I gain a better understanding of how my childhood affected the person I am today and the person I will become. This book categorizes Americans in classes of poor class, working class, and middle class; Lareau studies multiple families in each of these classes, including different races. In the following essay, I will apply the same concepts Lareau used in her book to my own life. Daily Life My Mother, Dawn, grew up in a working class family with her parents separated and trying to make ends meet with her Dad and two siblings. She graduated high school and went on to work at McDonalds for a few years, before she got married. My father, Jerry, grew up poor moving different houses every year with his mom, step dad, and five other siblings. His father died when he was three and his step father died when he was about thirteen. Jerry dropped out of high school without completing the ninth grade so he could work to provide for his mom and other siblings. Dawn and Jerry married and had their first child in 1988, a daughter named Brittany. In the same year my family moved into a predominantly white neighborhood in the town of Okalona, right by the busy streets of Preston Highway and Outer Loop. The house is brick and was built in the early 1940 s, it is two stories with four bedrooms and two baths, with two garages, a swimming pool, and big back yard, the house sits on .94 acres of land. Jerry worked as a painter in the union since he was 16 and always had the aspirations of owning his own business. Dawn stayed home to care for the home and the children. Two years after Brittany was born, they had another daughter named Ashley in January of 1990. At this point Jerry was still working at the Union as a painter and was attempting to start his own painting business. In 1993, Jerry was contracted with a construction company building 20 new houses a year, this was the start of his painting company. All through the 90 s and early 2000 s Jerry and his paint crew were working seven days a week painting store after store and house after house. Families, couples, and individuals come to take part in the temperate weather and beautiful beaches. However, Hawaii now is nothing like it use to be the real history behind this popular chain of islands is rarely told to visitors. Back in early Hawaiian times, Hawaii was self sufficient, independent, and gorgeous all around. The number of Native Hawaiians flourished, and everyone helped contribute to the community. All that changed, however, when outsiders began to settle here in Hawaii. Although the different outside influences may have brought some positivity to Hawaii, the negative side of their arrival overwhelmingly defeats it. Upon his expedition on January 18, 1778, English explorer Captain Cook was the first European to discover the Hawaiian Islands. While commanding the Resolution and Discovery to explore the Northwest Passage, Cook and his crew stumbled upon O ahu and Kaua i. Native Hawaiians did not perceive these British sailors as a threat, and in fact Greeted [Captain Cook] as a sacred high chief or god ( Captain Cook para 1). United States Secretary Of Defense In January of 2013, then United States Secretary of Defense (SecDef) Leon Panetta under the auspicious of the President and the Joint Chiefs of Staff, lifted the ban excluding women from combat related jobs. The policy, part of the Women Armed Services Integration Act of 1948, barred women from combat related occupations within the U.S. military for more than 60 years. Opinions varied with liberal minded individuals and feminist praising the administration s progressivist ideas concerning gender inequalities between men and women; other s lauded the move as nothing more than a social experiment that could potentially weaken the military s warfighting capabilities. • 19. Hacienda Luisita Inequality It all started in the year 1521 during the Spanish Colonization period. When the Spaniards settled in Manila they conquered almost everything; from our culture to our lands. One of those lands is the well known Hacienda Luisita, named after Luisa, the wife of a Spanish man who first owned it. When the Philippines was freed from colonial rule, the Hacienda Luisita was eventually bought by the Cojuangco family. This is where the controversy started and where the battle began between the small farmers, who just wanted to distribute the Hacienda equally, and the Cojuangco family, who refused. According to them, they will be able to give parts of the land should there be any tenants, but the family has officially stated that there were no tenants in the Hacienda, therefore no one to distribute the land to, despite the presence of the farmers. This decision still continues to be the subject of criticism even in the present, cited as one of the many examples of inequality in the country. Inequality has always been a never ending trend topic in the Philippines, and we can see that there is indeed widespread inequality throughout the country today, defined in sociology as the existence of unequal opportunities and rewards for different social positions or statuses within a group or society. The court found that it was unconstitutional within the right to privacy to have abortion illegal under the Fourteenth Amendment; therefore, women obtained the right to decide their own medical decisions without political interference. According to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), since the Roe v. Wade case abortion procedures are now 99% safe. • 24. Mercer Self Insurance Case Summary A third alternative is to see if a carrier with a National accounts division would consider writing Mercer on a large account basis. This approach would appear to provide greater stability since Mercer would stand on its own merit and not necessarily be lumped together with other transportation companies. Mercer s size and ability to retain risk makes this option more attainable at this juncture than it has been in the past. Another option is to consider self insurance. There are several advantages to self insurance which include low cost, the ability to manage claims more effectively when losses for both frequency, and severity are predictable, better cash flow, an opportunity to engage services by outside vendors or internally by staff members of your organization. • 26. Richard Nixon Checkers Speech Analysis Guilty or Innocent:Richard Nixon s Checkers Richard Nixon successfully used Pathos throughout his Checkers Speech to appeal to the emotions of the American people. Nixon, more commonly known for being one of the most hated presidents that the United States has endured, is exceptionally brilliant. He used technology to help him plead his innocence, as he televised his big Checkers Speech for the entire United States to hear. While being accused of accepting millions of dollars and putting them into a slush fund , Nixon stood firm and exclaimed to the public, I want to make this particularly clear that no contributor to this fund, no contributor to any of my campaigns, has ever received any consideration that he would not have received as an ordinary constituent (par. 6)that he had no part in anything fraudulent. However he does admit to taking one gift his Cocker Spaniel named Checkers. Other than Checkers, which he receives nor gives any favoritism for accepting, he is an honest, hardworking man. He stated that he did not care for the opinion of the public I just want to say this, right now, that regardless of what they say about it, we re gonna keep it (par. 26) because his children fell in love with it, and he couldn t bring himself to take it away from them. Throughout Nixon s speech, he presents the illusion that he is in fact broke , thus appealing to poverty. He gives multiple examples of his financial situations by stating, I owe 4500 dollars to the Riggs Bank in Washington, D.C., with interest 4 and 1/2 percent. I owe 3500 dollars to my parents, and the interest on that loan, which I pay regularly, because it s the part of the savings they made through the years they were working so hard I pay regularly 4 percent interest. And then I have a 500 dollar loan, which I have on my life insurance. (par. 23) which also establishes credibility with his audience. He also says, But Pat and I have the satisfaction that every dime that we ve got is honestly ours. I should say this, that Pat doesn t have a mink coat. But she does have a respectable Republican cloth coat, and I always tell her she d look good in anything (par. 25) showing that money is not the reason he is running ... • 27. Summary Of The White Man s Burden According to William Easterly, the accomplishments of planned development are not impressive. In an overly simplified process, governments invest capital to provide aid to developing countries (in this case food aid), it then does not yield a specific result or target, and the aid goes somewhere unintended (Easterly, 2006). In The White Man s Burden, Easterly discusses the notion that aid aims to please the donor instead of their electorate, by focusing on the wrong projects, and project impacts are often not measured scientifically (Easterly, 2006). In other words, development aid does more harm by fostering a dependency in recipient governments (Diriye, et al., 2014). In The Gambia, the government received foreign aid to develop rice projects for the purpose to increase food security from 1966 to 1984 (Carney, 2008). It is important to note that this period from 1966 to 1984 is a period that evolved from the Second World War. As a result, the justification for aid and development was to uplift nations from poverty. Furthermore, development was justified as a moral obligation and as something that advances national interest (Eyoh, 2015). However, development for the strict purpose of morality or poverty has unintended consequences. According to Carney, the Gambian government utilized 25,000 hectares of land to facilitate food aid for rice production. Today, only 10 percent of the initial irrigated land for food aid and food security purposes remains in production by farmers (Carney, 2008). As these operations emerged, different labour arrangements (human, mechanical and political) needed to develop in unison. Before the processes were complete, changes in policy favoured the importation of rice instead of local production (Carney, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. What Was The Significance Of The 1832 Reform Act The Passing of the 1832 Reform Act During the early part of the 19th Century reform was placed low on the political agenda. This was perhaps due to the Napoleonic Wars with France which showed people the damaging effects war could have on the country. However, in 1819 the arguments concerning the reformation of parliament came back into the public s conscious. The growing role of the media acted as a new method of informing the public of their rights and the need for action. People were also being made aware through public meetings held by radical MP s that favoured reform. It is therefore not hard to see why in 1832 the Great Reform Act was passed. These, as a result, became know as rotten boroughs because they were giving a true representation of the people of England. It was the large, industrial towns that needed this number of MP s in parliament but these often went totally unrepresented. In addition to this the actual elections were also false. Two thirds of elections were uncontested because people could not afford to stand against the successful candidate. The election process was not conducted on a single day but held over a number of weeks. The result might not be know for 2 months. There was no voting in secrecy. Voting took place on a platform amid an atmosphere of drunkenness and sometimes violent intimidation. Corruption was rife in terms of treating, cooping and the hiring of lambs. It is therefore reasonable that people called for reform in 1832. The 1832 Reform Act was seen at the time to be a solution to an ongoing problem highlighted by popular unrest.
