Should The Past Be Judged
Should the Past be Judged?
We can learn a lot from consulting the past. We learn more about our world, more about our
history, and even more about ourselves. Spanish aphorist George Santayana once said: Those who
cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it (qtd. in Moncur 1). In general terms, this
famous aphorism means that it is important for us to study and learn from history in order to avoid
repeating the same mistakes. However, the standards and values that we use today to judge the
present are much different than they were in the past. What may have seemed like the right thing
to do one hundred years ago might not be viewed the same way today. In her essay At the Buffalo
Bill Museum, June 1988, Jane Tompkins ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cody s Wild West showsweren t just used to preserve the buffalo species; they were used to
depict his actions as an Indian fighter. Buffalo Bill was a plainsman, but the place he might have
held on the picture plane of the West was severely compromised and ultimately lost to the
theatrical pretentions of the Wild West Show (Momaday 638). For Cody, these shows were just a
transformation into an imitation of himself. The great fascination and peril of Cody s life was the
riddle of who he really was. The thing that opposed him, and perhaps betrayed him, was above all
else the mirage of his own identity (Momaday 631). In this essence, it is important for us to judge
the past. Despite his treatment of the Indians, Cody is still an authentic American hero.
Buffalo Bill isn t the only figure in American history to be viewed in this controversial manner.
Consider the actions of Christopher Columbus after discovering America. In 1492, Columbus set
out on a voyage across the Atlantic Ocean in an effort to prove that the world was round. After
spending two months at sea, Columbus finally reached what he thought was India but was actually
Central America. Columbus is credited for being the first to generate European awareness of the
American continents in the Western Hemisphere. His voyages eventually led to the colonization of
the Americas and the development of a modern world. After Columbus, more and more explorers
set out to the Americas,

The Environmental Impact Of Marine Oil Spills
Effects, Recovery and Compensation
Dr. Brian Dicks
Technical Team Manager, International Tanker Owners Pollution Federation Ltd Paper presented at
the International Seminar on Tanker Safety, Pollution Prevention, Spill Response and
Compensation, 6th November 1998, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
INTRODUCTION The short term effects of oil spills on marine species and communities are
well known and predictable. However, concerns are often raised about possible longer term ( sub
lethal ) population effects through, for example, low levels of residual oil affecting the ability of
certain species to breed successfully. In fact, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The following definition developed by a group of independent scientists takes these problems into
account: Recovery is marked by the re establishment of a healthy biological community in which
the plants and animals characteristic of that community are present and functioning normally. It
may not have the same composition or age structure as that which was present before the damage,
and will continue to show further change and development. It is impossible to say whether an
ecosystem that has recovered from an oil spill is the same as, or different from, that which would
have persisted in the absence of the spill. Recovery depends upon both removal of oil which is
toxic or physically smothering, and biological processes, e.g. settlement of larvae and growth of
seedlings. Whilst clean up is normally the first step in the recovery process, complete removal of
all oil is not necessary there are many examples of recovery progressing in the presence of
weathered oil residues.

Whatever the extent of damage, the reproductive success of the survivors, as well as the influx of
eggs, juveniles or adults from unaffected areas underpins the recovery process. Many marine
species produce vast numbers of eggs and larvae which are widely distributed in the plankton by
currents. This is a strategy to overcome high rates of

sea horses have adapted to better survive in their habitats. One of their abilities that can help them
survive is their ability to camouflage and hide from their predators. The second thing is that they
don t have scales they have bony plates. The final thing is that they have special senses. The first

Realism And Impressionism
Realism and Impressionism are two noteworthy periods in history of art during which distinctive
types of art including painting, architecture, music, essentially enhanced, mirroring the ideologies
and artistic philosophies during that time.
Throughout the movement of Realism in the 19th century, it had become common for Parisians to
make outings to the suburbs along the Seine and, although related scenes had already appeared in
illustrations and prints on themes of Parisian leisure, they were unusual as the subject matter for
large painting. In general terms of suburban leisure, Courbet s was first of what became a highly
popular topic for painting, especially among the Impressionists, from Г‰douard Manet DГ©jeuner
sur l herbe and Claude Monet On the bank of the Seine to George Seurat s A Sunday Afternoon on
the Island of La Grande Jatte .
This essay compares and contrasts these two art periods regarding the major works created by
outstanding artists. In such manner, the work Young ladies on the banks of the Seine , created by
Gustave Courbet has been compared with Г‰douard Manet s painting Luncheon on the grass .
Courbet s painting depicts two young Parisiennes resting during the summer heat in a flowery spot
under overhanging trees on the shady banks of the Seine. The piece exhibited for the first time in
Paris in 1857 provoked a scandal caused mainly by the Courbet s choice of subject. He changed the
traditionally way of portraying women within a natural setting with

Informative Speech For Human Trafficking
All lives matter.
What s the word that describes someone who thinks that the world revolves around them? Self
centered? Egocentric? Narcissist? Vain? Self seeking? Selfish? Hm. Is that too harsh? We live in
society today where we are only concerned about ourselves. Somehow, we have adopted the
mentality that life revolves strictly around me and what I want. We are so consumed with
ourselves that we have totally forgotten about the thousands of people who struggle every day for
their life. Who are these people that I am talking about? The people who are promised a better life
but instead are trapped into this terrible system where they are forced to do things they never knew
about. This system is called Human trafficking. Today, I would like to convince you that this world
does not revolve around you. What exactly is human trafficking? We have all heard of it, but what
actually is it. It s a modern form of slavery. It involves controlling a person through force, fraud, or
coercion to exploit the victim for forced labor, sexual exploitation, or both. It strips victims of
their freedom and violates our nation s promise that every person in the U.S. is guaranteed basic
human rights. This is a crime (Beccera). Sadly, the United States is widely regarded as a
destination country for human trafficking. According to the federal reports, nearly 14,500 to
17,500 victims are trafficked in the United States annually. That doesn t even include the number of
victims that are trafficked WITHIN the United States. If you are looking for a defined definition of
human trafficking, California legislatures states it as being ALL acts involved in the recruitment,
abduction, transport, harboring, transfer, sale or receipt of persons, within national or across
international borders, through force, coercion, fraud or deception, to place persons in situations of
slavery or slavery like conditions, forced labor or services, such as forced prostitution or sexual
services, domestic servitude, bonded sweatshop labor, or other debt bondage. (Beccera) This is a
crime that needs to come to an end. While we look at human trafficking as just one thing, there are
various types of this crime. One, is sex trafficking. When you hear of

The Prayer Of The Pharisees
Something that God spoke to me through my devotions one morning this semester was that
knowledge without action is dead, and that action in my life will lead to action in the lives of
others. We were reading through Matthew 23 and 24, and in verses 3 4 of chapter 23 it says,
referring to the Pharisees, ...so do and observe whatever they tell you, but not the work they do.
For they preach, but do not practice. They tie up heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on
people s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to move them with their finger. I already
knew this was the attitude of the Pharisees, but this particular morning I felt like God was opening
my eyes to how I can apply this passage in my own life. Not only do I need to... Show more content

In addition to that sort of thing, I have noticed a few issues in the world and in ministry today
that I believe need to be addressed. The first is a distorted view of who God is. There are so
many people today that are angry with God or even believe that God is angry with them, or they
see God as this harsh and demeaning God who simply demands us to follow all sorts of rules and
regulations. I believe that this is one of the biggest issues, in and beyond the American culture that
people have with God. Unfortunately, we as Christians misrepresent God all of the time, and this
gives those that do not know Christ a very distorted view of God and what His character is like.
Rather than seeing God s character of love and truth, they see rules, regulations, inconsistencies,
and so on and so forth. This must change. To help rid people of this inaccurate view of who God
is, it is vital to walk through the salvation story with them. I learned in my Polity class about how
the salvation story is all throughout Scripture. Not only can we see this in the New Testament,
but it is throughout the entire Old Testament as well. This is something that I had never realized
before, but once I did I was able to see how God truly desires relationship with us. Relationship is
huge with God. This is not because He is in some way lacking relationship for there is perfect
relationship within the Trinity but, because of His character of love, He desires for us to

The Changes in the Way People Learn
Over time the way people learn, obtain and remember information has drastically changed and
will most likely continue to change. I will explore several of the changes from print technology,
to recording technology to computers and cellphones. Many years ago very few people knew
how to read, it was not until printing technology was improved that everyone began to learn to
read. Before printing began all books were printed by hand by specially skilled people and it
took several months to finish just one book causing them to be very rare and expensive so that
only the wealthiest people could afford them (Bernstein 109). After Gutenberg invented his
printing press which had replaceable movable letters used like stamps causing more books to be
printed at a time (Bellis). The number of books available greatly rose causing the price of the
books to decrease drastically so that even the poorest people could afford them. With this change
many people were able to learn how to read. With this new found knowledge the way we learned
changed, before people had to remember everything and after printing began to be cheaper
people did not have to remember like before they could just read and write to take notes. Lecture
Capture is used to record both video and audio of a class so that the students who have a legitimate
reason for missing class such as a sickness or a school game they need to be present at can watch
and listen at a later time (DeSantis 6). It is a good idea as people

Political Action Committees ( Pacs )
Political action committees (PACs) have gained influence throughout political history. However,
their gain of influence does not play a role in their acceptance from political parties. People
believe political action committees influence the legislature. Political action committees raise
money for political campaigns and other political issues. As Elizabeth Drew said, The process by
which Congress is supposed to function have been distorted, if not overwhelmed, by the role of
money. The ability of even the best of legislators to focus on broad questions, to act independently,
or to lead has been seriously impaired. This leads to people believing political action committees
influence political official s views on issues in the government. The increase in political action
committees are said to influence and help the political officials that are going to run for office
again, because they want to get more money from the political action committees for their next
political campaign. However, the supporters of political action committees say they allow average
citizens the right to let their voices be heard in the political process. Another argument political
action committees express is the First Amendment. The people who support certain candidates
believe that donating money is an act of Freedom of Speech. Still many people oppose them. There
is a bipartisan consensus on the dislike of political action committees. It may be said that political
action committees are a

The Enlightenment Era, And The Romantic Era
The styles we call High Renaissance, Baroque style, Scientific Reformation, The Enlightenment
Era, and The Romantic Era are all shaped by historical forces, the most significant being the
Protestant Reformation s successful challenge to the spiritual and political power of the Church.
Martin Luther, son of a rural coal miner had a mass impact in all these eras but Scientific
Reformation was more prominent than the rest. Luther was a German monk and Professor of
Theology at the University of Wittenberg. Luther s studies were put on hold by a political crisis in
Augustinians. He found himself agitated due to the corruption and lack of spirituality he saw in
Rome. He saw openly corrupt priests who would taunt the rituals of their faith. Luther sparked the
Reformation in 1517 by posting his 95 Theses on the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg,
Germany. The 95 theses were a list of statements which expressed Luther s concerns about many
Church practices. These Theses traveled around Europe. He felt in a manner, that the church was
not always right. He did not believe that the Pope was spiritual heir to Saint peter. The Church
known now as the Roman Catholic Churchwas very powerful politically and spiritually in Western
Europe. I believed that Martin Luther Help spark the Scientific Era was due to the fact when he
mad the 95Theses people began to second guess themselves. People began to have changes in
thought belief. I feel that many people gave up hope in the

Fig. 3.3 Transmitter circuit
This circuit diagram shows how a 555 timer IC is configured to function as a basic monostable
multivibrator. A monostable multivibrator is a timing circuit that changes state once triggered, but
returns to its original state after a certain time delay. It got its name from the fact that only one of
its output states is stable. It is also known as a one shot .
In this circuit, a negative pulse applied at pin 2 triggers an internal flip flop that turns off pin 7 s
discharge transistor, allowing C1 to charge up through
R1. At the same time, the flip flop brings the output (pin 3) level to high . When capacitor C1 as
charged up to about 2/3 Vcc, the flip flop is triggered once again, this time making the pin 3
output low and turning on pin 7 s discharge transistor, which discharges C1 to ground. This circuit,
in effect, produces a pulse at pin 3 whose width t is just the product of R1 and C1, i.e., t=R1C1.
IR Transmission circuit is used to generate the modulated 36 kHz IR signal. The IC555 in the
transmitter side is to generate 36 kHz square wave. Adjust the preset in the transmitter to get a 38

Jane Miller s purpose for running for the election. There are several political topics in Texas as of
today but some important and strong ones include: More government regulation of immigration
laws, Taxes and abortion. Jane needs to prioritize this issues and present them in a clear and concise
way to make a clear conservative Republican stand point. Accurately planning a strategic foresight

this candidate.

Also being a pro active entrepreneur, Jane can practically show how small and large businesses can
thrive in a tax friendly environment, thereby winning the heart of conservative Texans. The
campaign theme will help paint Jane as a committed conservative Republican, which is out to
reduce government spending. It could thus lead to a decrease in national debt.
Also proposing incentives for small businesses and reduced taxes for the rest of the population, she
is most likely to get the Republican votes. The fact that various regions of Texashave varied
economic status, the issue of taxation for the working class will need to be tailored for each
affected region and to be delivered with caution (Newell, Prinde, Riddleperger, 2013).
Abortion is a highly discussed issue nationwide, even among different ethnic groups as it tends to
affect all. The initial abortion bill indicates that medical providers to provide abortion only at the
facilities that are fully equipped to carry out the procedures. This is in fact protecting the right of
the Texans women and also reducing the numbers of abortion facilities that are all over the state.
This in part is also continuing in the culture that builds the foundations of the state of Texas. She
could also use the issue of abortion as an excellent entry point to discuss women and healthcare.
This controversial issue affects all Texans as a whole and therefore not

The Consequences of Paying College Athletes
In the Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia s definition of Amateur it states, during the early 20th
century the American intercollegiate athletic system... adopted amateurism, claiming it developed
competitors who were morally superior to professionals ( Amateur ). Amateurism is the concept that
athletes should compete without payment. Until recently, playing collegiate sports as an amateur
was thought to be a noble calling. As time surpassed, collegesports became a commercialized

of athletic scholarships became more relevant. The athletic scholarship seemed to be a more than

In order to keep from discriminating against schools without the financial assets to pay their
athletes, schools must refrain from paying their athletes. Furthermore, paying student athletes
would alter the principles of collegiate sports. As before stated, college sports were believed to
develop competitors who were morally superior to professionals ( Amateur ). Playing college sports,
as an amateur, has long been regarded as a huge opportunity for the student athlete. It offers an
athlete the chance to compete at a higher level of competition, while at the same time receiving a
college education. For example, the article For the Love of the Game discusses athletes competing
at Division II and Division III collegiate levels. He explains the situations of just a few individuals
who currently compete for schools while receiving no little to no benefits. The athletes pay their
way through school, yet they are nothing less than grateful to have the opportunity to compete in
collegiate sports (Shipnuck 1). But more than ever, student athletes are making crucial decisions
based upon money. A payment system would only intensify the student athlete s urge to make
decisions based upon money luxuries. The student athlete s motivation to compete in collegiate
athletics would drastically change. Paying athletes would create an incentive for athletes to attend
college for athletics rather than to receive an education. The student athlete would now be

Companies are becoming more involved with corporate governance and they are following more
strict rules and guidelines. One major problem is how board members are being elected. Avoid
employees for the company seems to be one way to eliminate poor corporate governance
committees. They have to try to keep the chief executive officers from loading the board with
friendly directors that are close to them. The most difficult change will be electing board members.

Three Different Levels Of Policing In Ontario
When it comes to policing in Ontario constancy is key. Since we have three different levels of
police in Ontario, which are municipal services, provincial service and federal service, there
needs to be some sort of framework for policing standards. The Police Services Act and the
Adequacy and Effectiveness of PoliceServices Regulation are pieces of legislation are enactments
to serve this purpose.
The Police Services Act functions as the groundwork for the mandate and duties of police officers,
as well as civilian policing staff, the procedure and process for filling, listening and concluding
complaints against the police, and the provisions for special investigations into police wrongdoing.
Some examples of the guidelines in the legislation

Yellowstone National Parks
The Expeditions that led to the establishment of Yellowstone National Park
Throughout history we have witnessed, heard and read about locations that had a significant
impact in history. Stepping into historical locations can either bring back great memories or serve
as memories of grief and sadness. Historical locations can be either war memoirs, monuments and it
can be nature preserves. The National park systems is one of the achievements that the United States
stands for, meaning the United States stands for glamor, refinement, protection and freedom.

Compare And Contrast A Sound Of Thunder And Nethergrave
The stories A Sound of Thunder Ray Bradbury, and Nethergrave Glori Skurzynski, are two
interesting stories. Though each different from one another, they have many similarities. One of the
biggest comparisons of both of these stories is the theme. The theme of these stories relate back to
the overall theme that technology affects the world in many ways.
Bradbury s A Sound of Thunder seemed to have more of a serious tone to it. Eckels found that just
the simplest action can tremendously affect the future. Eckels learns the danger of time travel after
his journey in a time machine. The Advance technology in this story ends up costing Eckels his life

Technological Surveillance Should Not Keep Up With The...
Technological surveillance is used in a wide field of areas from wiretapping, hacking, bugging,
electronic tracking, video surveillance and so on, but, when used by the government, technological
surveillance creates a particularly dramatic threat to the privacy of individual citizens (p. 354),
although this is uncertain to the government if it is indeed goes against citizen s privacy.
Technology advances so quickly, that the law cannot keep up with the swift changes. The first
issue involving technological surveillance was in the case Olmstead v. United States (1928), when
officer s wiretapped Olmstead home phone from across the street from a telephone pole. The

In the case Silverman v. United States (1961) a search warrant was required because the officers
physical penetrated through the defendants house. The issue involving privacy is found in the case
Katz v. United States (1967) where agents attached a recorded device to a phone booth in order to
hear a conversation. The question of privacy came up when they attached the device to the phone
booth, although it was not Katz property, it was the fact that a phone booth is used and designed
for privacy, so this case would require a warrant and they courts, excluded the conversations thereby
obtained, in the process overturning Olmstead and rejecting the trespass doctrine. Because the
government action violated the privacy upon which Katz justifiably relied while using the
telephone booth (p. 357) therefore the bugging went against the Fourth Amendment. There has to
be a fine line on which devices protect our Fourth Amendment rights and how are they being
determined. Well in the case Berger v. New York (1967) it notified the states that statutes
authorizing eavesdropping under court order would, at the least, have to comply with traditional
Fourth Amendment search warrant requirement (p. 358). Due to Berger and Katz, congress
congress passed Title III of the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe streets Act of 196. (p. 358). Title

Homelessness Is A Serious Social Problem
Homelessness in America has been a considered a serious social problem for at least thirty to forty
years, affecting thousands upon thousands of people in all regions of the country. The individuals
and families that make up the homeless population face struggles every day that many of us may
never even experience in our entire lives. There are many factors that either contribute to or directly
cause homelessness. Unfortunately, many people in our society believe that homelessness is a
personal problem and should be up to the individual to fix. However, homelessness is actually a
very serious social problem that we all need to be concerned about and work together to bring it
to an end. The American society is so accustomed to labeling each other just by looks, clothing,
and other material goods. Power, wealth, and prestige seem to be the only things that many
people want to live for, and those people do not attempt to put themselves in other peoples shoes,
especially not the shoes of a homeless person. This is a terrible habit that has been such a huge
part of our society for so long that a lot of people do not even see the problem with it. They may
not even realize how wrong and terrible it is to label someone just by their looks or their life
situation. But since we have done it for hundreds of years, we all continue to do it and see no
problem with it. Many people in our society label homeless people as lazy, unmotivated, and even
less intelligent than themselves just

Many critics of the SNAP program have accused it of encouraging unhealthy eating habits among its
participants and contributing to increasing rates of obesity in the United States. Such critics believe
that the mere distribution of food assistance leads SNAP recipients to buy more food, which results
in higher consumption among the SNAP population. Others think foods high in sugar and fat

Racism By Kwame Anthony Appiah Summary
Racism will always be an issue and will always be considered inevitable due to society. Racism is
said to be morally wrong because no one is born racist, they are taught. The ideals of a group are
thought to be forms of extrinsic racism which lead to morally problematic intentions. Utilitarianism
is ultimately the one way to prevent the consequences and effects of racism, as Kantian ethics
follow it up by defining its moral rule. Kwame Anthony Appiah s article Racisms , claims racism
to be a view of racialism which are the heritable characteristics, possessed by the members of our
species, that allow us to divide them into smaller sets of races... these races share certain traits...

Many of these racist are unable to give up beliefs that motivate their special advantages they gain in
the social order. They are ignorant to the evidence that belittles their beliefs and attitudes. They
resist the truth when they realize that this can actually take advantage of them, belittling them and
their claims. This isn t always the case as some black people internalized these negative claims and
utilized them to be their best virtue in their own interest. The evidence presented to the extrinsic
racist helps against the theoretical propositions, as it all relies on the person s deductive and
inductive reasoning to the dominant group. They are not able to to make moral distinctions without
putting their moral difference aside. Extrinsic racism is the most common form of racism as it
used to cause harm to see them independently morally flawed. They are proposed to be both moral
and theoretical, but ultimately draw false claims to the view of extrinsic racism.
All in all, we have an obligation to end racism due to its negative effects and consequences. The
ideal form of constitutional rights has dismantled itself amongst the division of race. Now that
minorities are becoming the majority, it is necessary for everyone to obtain every right found in the
constitution. It is all built on hatred and abhorrence. The obligation to stop it is due to racial

Alcohol Consumption And Metabolic Syndrome
Both alcohol consumption and metabolic syndrome are risk factors for development of fatty liver
diseases with similar pathology which ultimately can result in development of liver cancer.3, 4, 24
273, 4, 23 26 Using a two stage mouse model in which tumor initiation by DEN was followed by a
35% high fat diet, we have previously reported increased tumor incidence, suggestive of a diet
related promotional effect.11 Consistent with these findings, in the current study, we observed
increased adenoma incidence and tumor multiplicity in the HF/CAS group relative to chow
controls. More importantly, substituting SPI for casein in the diet produced a marked reduction in
hepatic lipid accumulation, inflammation and cell proliferation, resulting in lower tumor incidence
and multiplicity. SPI feeding prevented liverweight increase and hepatic steatosisin HF fed mice
relative to mice fed casein (Figure 1). In rats, replacing casein with soy in various feeding regimes
has also led to significant reductions in hepatic weight and steatosis .17, 28, 29 This was found to
be associated with hepatic activation of PPAR signaling pathways and inhibition of SREBP
signaling which might promote fatty acidutilization over fatty acid synthesis.17 Similar
mechanisms may be operating in our mouse model, as SPI induces genes involved in fatty acid
uptake, fatty acid degradation and oxidative phosphorylation. The employed model demonstrates
protective effects of SPI in early tumorigenesis.

The Epidemic Of Child Labour
You cannot escape the responsibilities of tomorrow by evading it today
Abraham Lincoln
The prevalence of child labour is a blot on society. It is a national disgrace that millions of
children in this country have to spend a major part of their daily routine in hazardous works. The
problem of child labour in India is the result of traditional attitudes, urbanisation, industrialisation,
migration, lack of education, etc. However, extreme poverty is the main cause of child labour.
However, this miracle idea falls short after identifying the brutal cons that develop along with Child
Labour. Youth are weak and can be susceptible to damage especially with the demanding jobs of a
factory. Simply stating, a child will wilt when put to work with hard tasks that occur in factories.
Just imagine how this effect to continue onto the descendants of this child. The business of Child
Labour where children must succumb to the control of atrocious lifestyles, which, with unstable
governments immerse a child in the hazardous struggle of unsafe workstations, poor wages, and an
immeasurable negative affect on its mind.
One argument used to corrobate the fact that Child Labour had a positive effect on the economy
was the immense change in salary costs from adults to children. The transference between adult
wages to children wages secured a high access rate for the factory and company owners. Children
were paid a wage to support their family. Without a father or mother bringing income,

Advancements Of Human Development Over The Centuries
Introduction: Improving efficiency and increasing comfort has been the basis of the onward trend
of human development over the centuries. This advancement has been seen in all facets of life
including transportation, agriculture, language, technology, art etc. Since the introduction of the
word progress in the 1680 s, these advancements have all been categorized under this abstract term
(De Benoist, 2008). Many attempts have been made over the decades to make a standard
definition of progress. One area where the definition of progress becomes somewhat blurred is in
science. True scientific progress hasn t been qualitatively defined. This paper aims to show that
scientific progress can be defined as additive advancements to science through the accumulation of
true scientific beliefs that are practical and tenable.
Scientific Progress Defined: Many philosophers and researchers have attempted to define what
progress and scientific progress really is. Physicist Thomas Kuhn, in 1963, described science as an
internally driven venture which was bolstered and structured by paradigms (Kuhn Schlegel, 1963).
Douglas, addressing this definition points out that Kuhn wasn t able to describe scientific progress
across multiple paradigms. To fix this issue and to provide her own take on progress, she confronts
the distinction between pure and applied science. She explained that the key to understanding
scientific progress was understanding what science is (Douglas, 2014). Science can be

Explain fully. [Present the relevant chart and refer to it directly in your answer.] The scatter
chart looks like this: Look first at 1995. In the NL, the SD had been falling since before the new
sharing arrangement. In the AL, the SD fell for a couple of years only. So, maybe sharing made
the difference in the AL, but not for long. Now look at 2000. Again, in the NL, the SD had been
falling since before the new sharing arrangement. The same is true in the AL. But the SD
jumped dramatically from there on in the AL. Most recently, it is true that the SD in both
leagues has fallen. So, there is a bit of evidence that sharing enhanced balance, but it isn t an
unmitigated success. 4. Do the averages you calculated in Part B add anything to your
conclusions about the impact of increased local revenue sharing on competitive balance.
[Present the relevant table of averages and percentage changes and refer to it directly in your
answer.] The averages help us to see a bit easier: | | Averages| | | | League| 1990 94| 1995 2000|

0.071| 4.1%| It looks like the only real evidence of enhanced balance is in the NL and then it
really is just a flattening out for the first period of local sharing (1995 2000). Balance worsened
dramatically in the AL for this first revenue sharing experiment. For the altered arrangment in 2000,

Preventing Extinction and World Change
Thirteen years ago, wolves were reintroduced to Yellowstone National Park. Of two potential
locations considered (Snowflake Springs and Butte Rock) they were placed in the low risk prey
Butte Rock for the purpose of encouraging the wolves to spread out and create packs. Before and
during the reintroduction project, Oregon State University researchers measured the rate of
willow growth along 2.6 miles of the Gallatin River, which ran through Butte Rock and
Snowflake Springs. During their study from 1998 to 2002, the researchers discovered that

Many scientists now agree that this is the case.
Wolves have been shown time and time again to possess a kind of language made up of growls,
yips, howls, and body language. Humans see them as lesser creatures because we do not
understand their dialect, made up more by body language than by the sounds that they make
(though sounds do play a big part). Could there be even more to these non human animals than we
already know? Do wolves have a religion? Do caribou think human hunters are some kind of angel
of death? More research must be done into the secret lives of animals before these questions can be
answered but first we must find a way to counteract that most pressing environmental issue of the
day: extinction. Lest those creatures we re only beginning to understand vanish, along with whatever
language and culture they may possess beyond our understanding.
The language and culture of animals is not the only thing threatened by extinction. While our
own human race is obviously in no danger of dying out, important aspects of our culture and
even our languages are dying out. Can a language actually become extinct? The moment that no
one can speak the language, and all that is left of it is text (if that), a language is considered to be
extinct. There is a major difference between an extinct language and a dead language (a language

Discount Rate Is Defined By The Federal Reserve Essay
Discount rate. The discount rate is defined by the Federal Reserve as, how much the United States
central bank charges its member banks to borrow from its discount window to maintain the
reserve it requires (www.federalreserve.org). If for example, the discount rate is set low, banks will
be more likely to borrow from the central bankand increase the reserves. With increased reserves
the federal funds rate will also decrease, which in turn will indirectly effect all other aspects of
the economy. The reverse is true as well, if the discount rate is set high, the banks will borrow
monies from one another rather than from the Federal Reserve. Open markets. Open markets is
where the central banks purchase and sell securities within the country. The central bank can
control the commercial banks lending ability by reducing the cash in the reserves. As an example;
to reduce cash in the reserves the central bank sells securities in the open market and places them
on the banks balance sheets lowering the cash on hand for the banks to lend out to their customers
(Dr. Econ, 2002). The impact that this will have on the economy is that it will cause the market to
contract. If the central bank would like to expand the market it can buy the securities, removing
them from the banks balance sheet, freeing up funds to lend out to the banks customers (Amadeo,
2016).

For example Japan relates on debt ratio them more U.S. firms. One of the explanations for different
financial structures is a different tax regime. For example, if interest income were taxes at higher
rate, a preference for debt financing over equity financing would be expected. However, according
to the empirical research, country differences in financial structure do not seem related to any
systematic to country difference in tax structure. Another explanation is that these country
differences may reflect cultural norms, cultural influences not yet been explained.
Principle behind global money management is that that firms must use the firm s cash recourses in
the most efficient way and work on minimization cash balances and reducing transactional costs.
Firms must hold certain cash balances that will cover payments of accounts payables and expected
demand on cash. The rest of the cash assets are usually reinvested on in money markets accounts
and firms earn interest on them. However, firms must have flexible accounts so it can withdraw all
cash freely. Such accounts usually have low interest rates and if it doesn t, firm can suffers from
financial penalties. That is the dilemma many firms are facing and that is why firms are minimizing
cash balances, so it can earn interest in high rated market account.
Another way to reduce costs of doing business internationally is to reduce transaction costs.

The Challenges Of Feminist Pedagogy And Urban Education
Feminist pedagogies use feminist theory to create a curriculum that seeks to empower groups of
students that have been historically subordinated in traditionally patriarchal classrooms. Using the
three central pillars of empowerment, community, and leadership feminist pedagogies aim to create
a sense of belonging for all students in the classroom (Shrewsbury, 1987).
Urban classrooms, on the other hand, have been increasingly diversifying in Ontario, and the
challenges faced within them have been coming to the forefront of educational discussions. Urban
teachers have been faced with the diversifying student needs in conjunction with a lack of resources
and funding (Blanchett, Kilgner, Harry, 2009, p. 392). Throughout this paper I will argue that
feminist pedagogy is a helpful tool to address these needs.

According to Solomon (2005), urban education provides a curriculum and pedagogy that increases
the life opportunities and practice of responsible citizenship of those residing in urban communities
(p.120). While historically urban education had a grim outlook on urban schools, classifying them
as inner city and low income, modern urban education attempts use the diversity of urban
classrooms to create a critical pedagogy that explores issues such as racism, classism, sexism,
ableism and homophobia (Solomon, 2005, p.121). It is clear that there are parallels between the
two educational philosophies, and I believe that feminist pedagogy, in conjunction with urban
education, has the potential to be a transformative tool in urban classrooms. Feminist pedagogies
overlap with urban education is many unsuspecting ways. Since feminist pedagogies seek to
accommodate and empower all groups of students in the class, it can be extremely impactful in
diverse urban classrooms.

a viable option to improve the economic developmentof communities spread in rural areas. The
culture agencies intend a planning effort to hold a series of events to stimulate the public to

The creative class initiatives are the key force for the economic growth in the post industrial phase
when service sectors outweigh the manufacturing sector. Consistent with the creative class,
promoting art and culture based on the art tour is a suitable idea to help the southwest Iowa
communities to grow. In addition, it also promotes the region encouraging people to visit and
moved to the following cities. According to Zachary Mannheimer, the director of the Des Moines
Social Club, if the city wants to stimulate the economic growth, it should invest in the arts rather
than get started in the jobs, this investment will make small communities achieve optimum results
quickly. Furthermore, the agencies use events as a tool of the attraction of people and companies
showing that the region is a viable place to live. The trend observed is that events make an
interconnection of the individuals with the community and it is a very good idea to connect
communities through art. Therefore, three recommendation are the key to the success of the cities
in the southwest of Iowa. First, it is mandatory to stimulate partnership between communities
among arts groups, communities, and organization. Consequently, the events can turn into a
potential tool to offer a cultural education for the community and create a program of school based
art education for the residents. Second, the civic engagement of the community is an important
strategy to achieve the results. When the community works together, it makes the difference for
the future, based on the developing knowledge, skills, and values to promote the quality of life.
Finally, developing and build an environment audience is a key to reach and involve more citizens
based on the cultural development. The fact of involving more people in the plan it is a way to

Landscape Architect Interview Essay
On Thursday, November 20, 2015 I conducted an interview with Mr. Denis Nola, a Landscape
Architect who is responsible for many of the spaces created at the University of Maryland. As my
first experience interviewing a professional, I had to be prepared for any sort of unexpected event
or hiccups in the dialogue such as: receiving responses that did not answer the questionor lengthy
answers that strayed from the question. Although this actually happened a few times, the overall
experience of the interview was successful because it gave me the opportunity to assimilate
communication in different ways. I learned about my very own strength and weaknesses during
interpersonal communication, the communication issues in the Landscape Architectfield, along with
ways to improve my skills in order to become an efficient communicator in that career. I chose to
interview Mr. Denis Nola because I gained an interest in his field from being in his Introduction to
Landscape Architectureclass. We convened for the interview at his office. I opened the interview by
providing an introduction and establishing structure by stating who I am, the purpose of the
interview and what types of questions to expect. I then transitioned into the... Show more content on

Nola, it was clear that as I move into this career, preparation is needed to be an effective
communicator. Since presenting ideas is very big in the field, I have to practice expressing my
ideas more effectively on both, intrapersonal and interpersonal levels. I would also have to work
on receiving criticism, whether it is complementary or damaging. When presenting, I wouldn t
know how the audience will react to an idea/proposal therefore I would have to be prepared for
any comments. I would also have to be able to project my voice and maintain the attention of any
planning board, client, and colleague. Overall, I can become an effective communicator in this
work field by strengthening my skills in these

They are also forbidden from pressuring clients into any questionable social relationships. The
American Counseling Association (2004) takes it a step further by forbidding any sexual
relationships with clients, family members or current sexual partners. Both ethical codes may differ
in approach but in theory they are both consistent with protecting the client and their vulnerabilities
as they discuss some of their most intimate details to their therapist.
From examining both ethical statutes, therapists can take it one step forward by taking ownership
in violating the bond between therapist and client. Years of education, training and personal
responsibility should prevent therapist from violating the bond between client and therapist. Clients
entrust therapist with intimate details and instill trust in the therapist. This relationship can
sometimes cross boundaries and cause the client to view the therapist in a different light. The same
can be said of therapists who have gained the admiration and trust of their client. This places them
at an unfair disadvantage and gives them the upper hand and a manipulative stance in entering any
relationship outside of the proper scope of the therapist client relationship.
Sexuality and confidentiality aren t the only issues when it comes to dual roles and conflicts of
interest in the therapist patient relationship. Obviously the therapist s main concern should be in

The Shawshank Redemption By Stephen King And Frank...
In the following paper, I will talk about the movie The Shawshank Redemption. I will include the
plot, characters, contrasting and comparing pieces of information from the book to the movie, and
the lesson I gained from this assignment.
The Shawshank Redemption was written and directed by Authors Stephen King and Frank Darabont
in 1994. The scene takes place at Shawshank Prison located in Maine. The film tells the story of
Andy Dufresne, a quiet banker who is sentenced to life in the penitentiary for the murder of his
wife and her secret lover. During his time at the prison, Andy becomes friends with a fellow
inmate, Ellis Boyd Red Redding and he finds himself protected by the guards after Warden Norton
begins using him in his money laundering operation.
In 1947 Portland, Maine, banker Andy Dufresne is convicted of murdering his wife and her secret
lover, and is sentenced to two consecutive life sentences at the Shawshank State Penitentiary. Red
procures a rock hammer and later a large poster of Rita Hayworth for Andy. Working in the prison
laundry, Andy is regularly assaulted by the Sisters and their leader, Bogs.
During an outdoor work detail, Andy overhears the captain of the guards, Byron Hadley,
complaining about being taxed on an inheritance, and offers to help him legally shelter the money
from the IRS. After an assault by the Sisters nearly kills Andy, Hadley beats Bogs severely enough
that he never walks nor eats solid foods again, and is transferred to a

Effect Of Ascorbic Acid On Vitamin B2
Chemical stability examination of vitamins B6 (Pyridoxine), vitamin C (ascorbic acid) and vitamin
B2 (riboflavin) for neonatal use in parental nutrition
Background
Vitamins are parental nutrition (PN) constituents used to provide daily requirements and supply
deficiencies in neonates. The vitamin loss in the parental nutrition bad is commonly caused by
chemical degradation. The reduction thiamine and oxidation of vitamin C are the frequent reactions
of chemical degradation. The vitamin C is most unstable vitamin added to parental nutrition. It is
highly oxidized. Its oxidation is influenced by high temperatures and the catalysis by the oligo
elements like copper. Its first degradation route is reversible and has biological activities while the
remaining degradation routes are irreversible and lack biological activities. The degradation of
vitamin C depends on the availability of oxygen in the medium (packaging material used). Various
amino acids also affect the vitamin C stability due to its copper ions chelating and this reduces its
potential which further decreases residual oxygen effect. The vitamin C end product (oxalic acid
formation) possesses a toxic potential and quickly interacts with free available calcium ions thereby
initiating calcium oxalate precipitation.
Thiamine degradation is caused by reduction as result of the presence of sodium metabisulfite
which is an antioxidant applied in the crystallization of amino acids solution. Vitamin B2 is most

Essay on Phobias
Phobias
Fear is a normal and an important human reaction to something dangerous, it keeps one out of
danger, because fear is disliked and one tries ones best to avoid the object or situation of fear. It
causes physical changes known as fight or flight reaction, which causes blood pressure to increase
and the heart rate to speed up to pump blood to the large muscles used to run away, to balance this
the human body has sweat glands which produce perspiration to cool the body.
Usually young people experience more fear than adults do (Metcalf).
When one has a fear of something, one normally does not spend much time thinking about it, and it
only affects one when one is forced to confront it. Just about everyone is afraid of something, ...

However, phobia can even cause people to risk their health. For example, the fear of dentists can
leave people suffering from it willing to risk the health of their teeth in order to avoid having to
go through an exam or procedure ( MacKay). When one knows about an upcoming confrontation,
it can be the reason why one can not sleep or finds it hard to focus on important tasks. Due the
change in daily routine, this unrealistic fear can interfere with the ability to socialize, work, or go
about everyday life, brought on by and object, event or situation. But even animals have anxieties
and phobias just as every human being (www.phobia help.de). A phobia is an irrational fear, one
knows that the object or situation, one is scared off, can not hurt one, but one is still afraid. A
reason for this is that the human mind can not distinguish what is real and imaginary. When one
has uncontrollable anxiety attacks, he loses rational judgement, leading to complicated problems.
However, anyone can develop a phobia, men and women, teens and young adults, and elderly
lady or a one year old boy (MacKay). Thereby it is not completely clear, what the causes for
phobia are. Phobia is often caused by something scary that happened earlier in somebody s life,
but not every one develop phobias after special experiences. An explanation for this could be that
for some people certain parts of the brain and specific neural pathways are associated with phobias.

  • 2. Should The Past Be Judged Should the Past be Judged? We can learn a lot from consulting the past. We learn more about our world, more about our history, and even more about ourselves. Spanish aphorist George Santayana once said: Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it (qtd. in Moncur 1). In general terms, this famous aphorism means that it is important for us to study and learn from history in order to avoid repeating the same mistakes. However, the standards and values that we use today to judge the present are much different than they were in the past. What may have seemed like the right thing to do one hundred years ago might not be viewed the same way today. In her essay At the Buffalo Bill Museum, June 1988, Jane Tompkins ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cody s Wild West showsweren t just used to preserve the buffalo species; they were used to depict his actions as an Indian fighter. Buffalo Bill was a plainsman, but the place he might have held on the picture plane of the West was severely compromised and ultimately lost to the theatrical pretentions of the Wild West Show (Momaday 638). For Cody, these shows were just a transformation into an imitation of himself. The great fascination and peril of Cody s life was the riddle of who he really was. The thing that opposed him, and perhaps betrayed him, was above all else the mirage of his own identity (Momaday 631). In this essence, it is important for us to judge the past. Despite his treatment of the Indians, Cody is still an authentic American hero. Buffalo Bill isn t the only figure in American history to be viewed in this controversial manner. Consider the actions of Christopher Columbus after discovering America. In 1492, Columbus set out on a voyage across the Atlantic Ocean in an effort to prove that the world was round. After spending two months at sea, Columbus finally reached what he thought was India but was actually Central America. Columbus is credited for being the first to generate European awareness of the American continents in the Western Hemisphere. His voyages eventually led to the colonization of the Americas and the development of a modern world. After Columbus, more and more explorers set out to the Americas, ... However, concerns are often raised about possible longer term ( sub lethal ) population effects through, for example, low levels of residual oil affecting the ability of certain species to breed successfully. In fact, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The following definition developed by a group of independent scientists takes these problems into account: Recovery is marked by the re establishment of a healthy biological community in which the plants and animals characteristic of that community are present and functioning normally. It may not have the same composition or age structure as that which was present before the damage, and will continue to show further change and development. It is impossible to say whether an ecosystem that has recovered from an oil spill is the same as, or different from, that which would have persisted in the absence of the spill. Recovery depends upon both removal of oil which is toxic or physically smothering, and biological processes, e.g. settlement of larvae and growth of seedlings. Whilst clean up is normally the first step in the recovery process, complete removal of all oil is not necessary there are many examples of recovery progressing in the presence of weathered oil residues. Page 43 13th National Plan Environment and Scientific Coordinators Workshop 2004 Whatever the extent of damage, the reproductive success of the survivors, as well as the influx of eggs, juveniles or adults from unaffected areas underpins the recovery process. Many marine species produce vast numbers of eggs and larvae which are widely distributed in the plankton by currents. This is a strategy to overcome high rates of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Realism And Impressionism Realism and Impressionism are two noteworthy periods in history of art during which distinctive types of art including painting, architecture, music, essentially enhanced, mirroring the ideologies and artistic philosophies during that time. Throughout the movement of Realism in the 19th century, it had become common for Parisians to make outings to the suburbs along the Seine and, although related scenes had already appeared in illustrations and prints on themes of Parisian leisure, they were unusual as the subject matter for large painting. In general terms of suburban leisure, Courbet s was first of what became a highly popular topic for painting, especially among the Impressionists, from Г‰douard Manet DГ©jeuner sur l herbe and Claude Monet On the bank of the Seine to George Seurat s A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte . This essay compares and contrasts these two art periods regarding the major works created by outstanding artists. In such manner, the work Young ladies on the banks of the Seine , created by Gustave Courbet has been compared with Г‰douard Manet s painting Luncheon on the grass . Courbet s painting depicts two young Parisiennes resting during the summer heat in a flowery spot under overhanging trees on the shady banks of the Seine. The piece exhibited for the first time in Paris in 1857 provoked a scandal caused mainly by the Courbet s choice of subject. • 7. Informative Speech For Human Trafficking All lives matter. What s the word that describes someone who thinks that the world revolves around them? Self centered? Egocentric? Narcissist? Vain? Self seeking? Selfish? Hm. Is that too harsh? We live in society today where we are only concerned about ourselves. Somehow, we have adopted the mentality that life revolves strictly around me and what I want. We are so consumed with ourselves that we have totally forgotten about the thousands of people who struggle every day for their life. Who are these people that I am talking about? The people who are promised a better life but instead are trapped into this terrible system where they are forced to do things they never knew about. This system is called Human trafficking. Today, I would like to convince you that this world does not revolve around you. What exactly is human trafficking? We have all heard of it, but what actually is it. It s a modern form of slavery. It involves controlling a person through force, fraud, or coercion to exploit the victim for forced labor, sexual exploitation, or both. It strips victims of their freedom and violates our nation s promise that every person in the U.S. is guaranteed basic human rights. This is a crime (Beccera). Sadly, the United States is widely regarded as a destination country for human trafficking. According to the federal reports, nearly 14,500 to 17,500 victims are trafficked in the United States annually. That doesn t even include the number of victims that are trafficked WITHIN the United States. If you are looking for a defined definition of human trafficking, California legislatures states it as being ALL acts involved in the recruitment, abduction, transport, harboring, transfer, sale or receipt of persons, within national or across international borders, through force, coercion, fraud or deception, to place persons in situations of slavery or slavery like conditions, forced labor or services, such as forced prostitution or sexual services, domestic servitude, bonded sweatshop labor, or other debt bondage. (Beccera) This is a crime that needs to come to an end. While we look at human trafficking as just one thing, there are various types of this crime. One, is sex trafficking. When you hear of ... • 8. The Prayer Of The Pharisees Something that God spoke to me through my devotions one morning this semester was that knowledge without action is dead, and that action in my life will lead to action in the lives of others. We were reading through Matthew 23 and 24, and in verses 3 4 of chapter 23 it says, referring to the Pharisees, ...so do and observe whatever they tell you, but not the work they do. For they preach, but do not practice. They tie up heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on people s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to move them with their finger. I already knew this was the attitude of the Pharisees, but this particular morning I felt like God was opening my eyes to how I can apply this passage in my own life. Not only do I need to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition to that sort of thing, I have noticed a few issues in the world and in ministry today that I believe need to be addressed. The first is a distorted view of who God is. There are so many people today that are angry with God or even believe that God is angry with them, or they see God as this harsh and demeaning God who simply demands us to follow all sorts of rules and regulations. I believe that this is one of the biggest issues, in and beyond the American culture that people have with God. Unfortunately, we as Christians misrepresent God all of the time, and this gives those that do not know Christ a very distorted view of God and what His character is like. Rather than seeing God s character of love and truth, they see rules, regulations, inconsistencies, and so on and so forth. This must change. To help rid people of this inaccurate view of who God is, it is vital to walk through the salvation story with them. I learned in my Polity class about how the salvation story is all throughout Scripture. Not only can we see this in the New Testament, but it is throughout the entire Old Testament as well. This is something that I had never realized before, but once I did I was able to see how God truly desires relationship with us. Relationship is huge with God. This is not because He is in some way lacking relationship for there is perfect relationship within the Trinity but, because of His character of love, He desires for us to ... • 9. The Changes in the Way People Learn Over time the way people learn, obtain and remember information has drastically changed and will most likely continue to change. I will explore several of the changes from print technology, to recording technology to computers and cellphones. Many years ago very few people knew how to read, it was not until printing technology was improved that everyone began to learn to read. Before printing began all books were printed by hand by specially skilled people and it took several months to finish just one book causing them to be very rare and expensive so that only the wealthiest people could afford them (Bernstein 109). After Gutenberg invented his printing press which had replaceable movable letters used like stamps causing more books to be printed at a time (Bellis). The number of books available greatly rose causing the price of the books to decrease drastically so that even the poorest people could afford them. With this change many people were able to learn how to read. With this new found knowledge the way we learned changed, before people had to remember everything and after printing began to be cheaper people did not have to remember like before they could just read and write to take notes. Lecture Capture is used to record both video and audio of a class so that the students who have a legitimate reason for missing class such as a sickness or a school game they need to be present at can watch and listen at a later time (DeSantis 6). • 10. Political Action Committees ( Pacs ) Political action committees (PACs) have gained influence throughout political history. However, their gain of influence does not play a role in their acceptance from political parties. People believe political action committees influence the legislature. Political action committees raise money for political campaigns and other political issues. As Elizabeth Drew said, The process by which Congress is supposed to function have been distorted, if not overwhelmed, by the role of money. The ability of even the best of legislators to focus on broad questions, to act independently, or to lead has been seriously impaired. This leads to people believing political action committees influence political official s views on issues in the government. The increase in political action committees are said to influence and help the political officials that are going to run for office again, because they want to get more money from the political action committees for their next political campaign. However, the supporters of political action committees say they allow average citizens the right to let their voices be heard in the political process. Another argument political action committees express is the First Amendment. The people who support certain candidates believe that donating money is an act of Freedom of Speech. Still many people oppose them. There is a bipartisan consensus on the dislike of political action committees. It may be said that political action committees are a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. The Enlightenment Era, And The Romantic Era The styles we call High Renaissance, Baroque style, Scientific Reformation, The Enlightenment Era, and The Romantic Era are all shaped by historical forces, the most significant being the Protestant Reformation s successful challenge to the spiritual and political power of the Church. Martin Luther, son of a rural coal miner had a mass impact in all these eras but Scientific Reformation was more prominent than the rest. Luther was a German monk and Professor of Theology at the University of Wittenberg. Luther s studies were put on hold by a political crisis in Augustinians. He found himself agitated due to the corruption and lack of spirituality he saw in Rome. He saw openly corrupt priests who would taunt the rituals of their faith. Luther sparked the Reformation in 1517 by posting his 95 Theses on the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg, Germany. The 95 theses were a list of statements which expressed Luther s concerns about many Church practices. These Theses traveled around Europe. He felt in a manner, that the church was not always right. He did not believe that the Pope was spiritual heir to Saint peter. The Church known now as the Roman Catholic Churchwas very powerful politically and spiritually in Western Europe. • 13. multivibrator. A monostable multivibrator is a timing circuit that changes state once triggered, but returns to its original state after a certain time delay. It got its name from the fact that only one of its output states is stable. It is also known as a one shot . In this circuit, a negative pulse applied at pin 2 triggers an internal flip flop that turns off pin 7 s discharge transistor, allowing C1 to charge up through R1. At the same time, the flip flop brings the output (pin 3) level to high . When capacitor C1 as charged up to about 2/3 Vcc, the flip flop is triggered once again, this time making the pin 3 output low and turning on pin 7 s discharge transistor, which discharges C1 to ground. This circuit, in effect, produces a pulse at pin 3 whose width t is just the product of R1 and C1, i.e., t=R1C1. IR Transmission circuit is used to generate the modulated 36 kHz IR signal. The athletes pay their way through school, yet they are nothing less than grateful to have the opportunity to compete in collegiate sports (Shipnuck 1). The question of privacy came up when they attached the device to the phone booth, although it was not Katz property, it was the fact that a phone booth is used and designed for privacy, so this case would require a warrant and they courts, excluded the conversations thereby obtained, in the process overturning Olmstead and rejecting the trespass doctrine. Racism is said to be morally wrong because no one is born racist, they are taught. The ideals of a group are thought to be forms of extrinsic racism which lead to morally problematic intentions. Utilitarianism is ultimately the one way to prevent the consequences and effects of racism, as Kantian ethics follow it up by defining its moral rule. Kwame Anthony Appiah s article Racisms , claims racism to be a view of racialism which are the heritable characteristics, possessed by the members of our species, that allow us to divide them into smaller sets of races... these races share certain traits... This isn t always the case as some black people internalized these negative claims and utilized them to be their best virtue in their own interest. This advancement has been seen in all facets of life including transportation, agriculture, language, technology, art etc. Since the introduction of the word progress in the 1680 s, these advancements have all been categorized under this abstract term (De Benoist, 2008). Many attempts have been made over the decades to make a standard definition of progress. One area where the definition of progress becomes somewhat blurred is in science. True scientific progress hasn t been qualitatively defined. This paper aims to show that scientific progress can be defined as additive advancements to science through the accumulation of true scientific beliefs that are practical and tenable. Scientific Progress Defined: Many philosophers and researchers have attempted to define what progress and scientific progress really is. Douglas, addressing this definition points out that Kuhn wasn t able to describe scientific progress across multiple paradigms. Now look at 2000. Again, in the NL, the SD had been falling since before the new sharing arrangement. The same is true in the AL. But the SD jumped dramatically from there on in the AL. Most recently, it is true that the SD in both leagues has fallen. So, there is a bit of evidence that sharing enhanced balance, but it isn t an unmitigated success. 4. The discount rate is defined by the Federal Reserve as, how much the United States central bank charges its member banks to borrow from its discount window to maintain the reserve it requires (www.federalreserve.org). If for example, the discount rate is set low, banks will be more likely to borrow from the central bankand increase the reserves. With increased reserves the federal funds rate will also decrease, which in turn will indirectly effect all other aspects of the economy. The reverse is true as well, if the discount rate is set high, the banks will borrow monies from one another rather than from the Federal Reserve. Open markets. Open markets is where the central banks purchase and sell securities within the country. The central bank can control the commercial banks lending ability by reducing the cash in the reserves. As an example; to reduce cash in the reserves the central bank sells securities in the open market and places them on the banks balance sheets lowering the cash on hand for the banks to lend out to their customers (Dr. Econ, 2002). The impact that this will have on the economy is that it will cause the market to contract. If the central bank would like to expand the market it can buy the securities, removing them from the banks balance sheet, freeing up funds to lend out to the banks customers (Amadeo, 2016). While historically urban education had a grim outlook on urban schools, classifying them as inner city and low income, modern urban education attempts use the diversity of urban classrooms to create a critical pedagogy that explores issues such as racism, classism, sexism, ableism and homophobia (Solomon, 2005, p.121). It is clear that there are parallels between the two educational philosophies, and I believe that feminist pedagogy, in conjunction with urban education, has the potential to be a transformative tool in urban classrooms. Feminist pedagogies overlap with urban education is many unsuspecting ways. Since feminist pedagogies seek to accommodate and empower all groups of students in the class, it can be extremely impactful in diverse urban classrooms. Feminist Pedagogy in Urban ... The creative class initiatives are the key force for the economic growth in the post industrial phase when service sectors outweigh the manufacturing sector. Consistent with the creative class, promoting art and culture based on the art tour is a suitable idea to help the southwest Iowa communities to grow. In addition, it also promotes the region encouraging people to visit and moved to the following cities. According to Zachary Mannheimer, the director of the Des Moines Social Club, if the city wants to stimulate the economic growth, it should invest in the arts rather than get started in the jobs, this investment will make small communities achieve optimum results quickly. Furthermore, the agencies use events as a tool of the attraction of people and companies showing that the region is a viable place to live. The trend observed is that events make an interconnection of the individuals with the community and it is a very good idea to connect communities through art. Therefore, three recommendation are the key to the success of the cities in the southwest of Iowa. First, it is mandatory to stimulate partnership between communities among arts groups, communities, and organization. Consequently, the events can turn into a potential tool to offer a cultural education for the community and create a program of school based art education for the residents. • 43. Landscape Architect Interview Essay On Thursday, November 20, 2015 I conducted an interview with Mr. Denis Nola, a Landscape Architect who is responsible for many of the spaces created at the University of Maryland. As my first experience interviewing a professional, I had to be prepared for any sort of unexpected event or hiccups in the dialogue such as: receiving responses that did not answer the questionor lengthy answers that strayed from the question. Although this actually happened a few times, the overall experience of the interview was successful because it gave me the opportunity to assimilate communication in different ways. I learned about my very own strength and weaknesses during interpersonal communication, the communication issues in the Landscape Architectfield, along with ways to improve my skills in order to become an efficient communicator in that career. I chose to interview Mr. Denis Nola because I gained an interest in his field from being in his Introduction to Landscape Architectureclass. We convened for the interview at his office. I opened the interview by providing an introduction and establishing structure by stating who I am, the purpose of the interview and what types of questions to expect. I then transitioned into the... The American Counseling Association (2004) takes it a step further by forbidding any sexual relationships with clients, family members or current sexual partners. Both ethical codes may differ in approach but in theory they are both consistent with protecting the client and their vulnerabilities as they discuss some of their most intimate details to their therapist. From examining both ethical statutes, therapists can take it one step forward by taking ownership in violating the bond between therapist and client. Years of education, training and personal responsibility should prevent therapist from violating the bond between client and therapist. Clients entrust therapist with intimate details and instill trust in the therapist. This relationship can sometimes cross boundaries and cause the client to view the therapist in a different light. The same can be said of therapists who have gained the admiration and trust of their client. This places them at an unfair disadvantage and gives them the upper hand and a manipulative stance in entering any relationship outside of the proper scope of the therapist client relationship. • 50. Effect Of Ascorbic Acid On Vitamin B2 Chemical stability examination of vitamins B6 (Pyridoxine), vitamin C (ascorbic acid) and vitamin B2 (riboflavin) for neonatal use in parental nutrition Background Vitamins are parental nutrition (PN) constituents used to provide daily requirements and supply deficiencies in neonates. The vitamin loss in the parental nutrition bad is commonly caused by chemical degradation. The reduction thiamine and oxidation of vitamin C are the frequent reactions of chemical degradation. The vitamin C is most unstable vitamin added to parental nutrition. It is highly oxidized. Its oxidation is influenced by high temperatures and the catalysis by the oligo elements like copper. Its first degradation route is reversible and has biological activities while the remaining degradation routes are irreversible and lack biological activities. The degradation of vitamin C depends on the availability of oxygen in the medium (packaging material used). Various amino acids also affect the vitamin C stability due to its copper ions chelating and this reduces its potential which further decreases residual oxygen effect. The vitamin C end product (oxalic acid formation) possesses a toxic potential and quickly interacts with free available calcium ions thereby initiating calcium oxalate precipitation. Thiamine degradation is caused by reduction as result of the presence of sodium metabisulfite which is an antioxidant applied in the crystallization of amino acids solution. Vitamin B2 is most ... Usually young people experience more fear than adults do (Metcalf). When one has a fear of something, one normally does not spend much time thinking about it, and it only affects one when one is forced to confront it. Just about everyone is afraid of something, ... For example, the fear of dentists can leave people suffering from it willing to risk the health of their teeth in order to avoid having to go through an exam or procedure ( MacKay). When one knows about an upcoming confrontation, it can be the reason why one can not sleep or finds it hard to focus on important tasks. Due the change in daily routine, this unrealistic fear can interfere with the ability to socialize, work, or go about everyday life, brought on by and object, event or situation. But even animals have anxieties and phobias just as every human being (www.phobia help.de). A phobia is an irrational fear, one knows that the object or situation, one is scared off, can not hurt one, but one is still afraid. A reason for this is that the human mind can not distinguish what is real and imaginary. When one has uncontrollable anxiety attacks, he loses rational judgement, leading to complicated problems. However, anyone can develop a phobia, men and women, teens and young adults, and elderly lady or a one year old boy (MacKay). Thereby it is not completely clear, what the causes for phobia are. Phobia is often caused by something scary that happened earlier in somebody s life, but not every one develop phobias after special experiences. An explanation for this could be that for some people certain parts of the brain and specific neural pathways are associated with phobias. It is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
