David Foster Wallace s Essay Consider The Lobster
Throughout the course of David Foster Wallace s essay, Consider the Lobster, he uses many
different methods to try and convince his audience in fact it is seemingly inhumane to boil lobsters.
Wallace proves to the reader that the proponents of the Maine Lobster Festival, home of the World s
Largest LobsterCooker, support their style of killing the lobster by falsely arguing that lobsters
do not feel pain, when in fact they do. By examining the essay, it is apparent that Wallace is
writing to more than one audience. One audience that he is writing to is the readers of Gourmet,
the magazine that this essay was published in. However, it is important to note that this essay is
also being written to those people who would not have read the magazine otherwise, that is the
people that who are purely reading this article because it was written by Wallace. Because there is
such a broad audience, it is nearly impossible for every piece of evidence given to effect each read
the same way. Below I will examine a piece of evidence that appeals to only one audience, as well
as evidence that does in fact appeal to both.
To begin with, the cab scene is imperative in supporting Wallace s... Show more content on

Wallace sets up a scenario for the reader that puts them in the mindset of the lobster itself, as it is
being boiled. Wallace says that while the lobster is boilingit ...behaves as much as you or I would...
(Wallace 62). This sentence automatically makes the reader feel extremely uneasy about the idea of
boiling a lobster, because all they can picture now is a human boiling. Wallace writes about the
...rattling and clanking... of the lobsters while they boil and how their ...claws [scrape] the side of
the kettle as it thrashes..., using onomatopoeias to make the scenario all so real for the reader

Discussing Christopher Wren s Cathedral

St. Paul Cathedral
Introduction: This semester my paper will be discussing Christopher Wren s building St. Paul s
Cathedral , and why St. Paul s Cathedral is considered to be the most important and famous
masterpiece of England s architecture? The St. Paul Cathedral of Sir Christopher Wren was chosen
because it is famously interpreted in the baroque style in England, and dominated English
architecture. St. Paul s cathedral is one of the most famous important building because it was built
on an earlier church that was severely damaged in the Great Fire of London. It is considered as one
of the best symbol of English baroque architecture . It was rebuilt and designed by Christopher
Wren, who also rebuilt over fifty churches that were damaged in Great Fire of London. It is one
of the tallest buildings of London. St. Paul s is the most brilliant building that I ve heard that it
was done by a acclaimed artist in London after it was destroyed, and rebuild again.
Concession: Looking at the most ten famous building in London none of them will take your
attention as St. Paul Cathedral that took forty years to build after it was destroyed. Also, it was
designed and built by one of the most famous English architects in the history Sir Christopher
Wren . It is said to be at the highest point of the city London. Its dome is elegant as framed by the
spires of Wren s city churches.

Dance Concert Essay
The 2017 Spring Works Dance Concert, presented by Purdue s Contemporary Dance Company,
displayed various dance pieces that had diverse choreographic structures and appeared to be
created from compositional processes that were very similar to the processes we explored in class.
All of the choreographers in this concert exhibited their own works through exclusive compositional
tools. For example, in the work Unlocking Energy , choreographed by Mary Beth Van Dyke, the
sustained arm movements initiated throughout her piece appeared to glide from one motion to the
next with ease. The arm movements in this piece differed considerably when compared to the hand
gestures in 12th Drowned , choreographed by Kathleen Hickey. The hand gestures in 12th... Show

For example, the unique production elements, such as: white wigs and upstage lighting, enabled
the audience to immediately become engrossed in the dark meaning of the piece. Additionally, the
compositional tools such as: even phrasing, and fast tempos displayed throughout the piece, made
the overall energy of State of Affairs elevated. At times, it appeared, that even during the parts of
the movements that contrasted with the music, the audience could not look away from the
dancers movements. Without any one of these elements, I believe the piece could be understood
in a very different way, which is not bad but is also not supportive of what the work is trying to
portray overall. Ultimately, Carol Cunningham Sigman s piece, as well as the rest of the pieces in
the concert, made the 2017 Spring Works DanceConcert, a hard concert to

My First Day Vacation Essay
Vacation an extended period of recreation, especially one spent away from home or in traveling.
This vacation i ll definitely be far away from home.
We first packed our bags for the trip. Then we drove to the airport. Although we got there a little
late the line wasn t that big We also had special tickets which had us go to the front of the line.
It was my first time ever riding an aircraft my mom said to chew gum for, my ears so they won t
pop. well the first plane I rode was a little smaller than the other aircraft I would ride but it was
still fun. Then we reached our next airport this time the plane was a bigger plane and, way nicer
than the other one. All the window covers were down the whole flight because it had tv s built into
the seats so I got my headphones and watched movies. My third flight of the day was going to
Florida,which was our destination.
It also was a bigger plane with tv s so it didn t feel that long.
When we got to the airport it was super nice and enormous ,so we got our bags. Then we went on
this train type of thing it was fun, yet short in the airport for, us to get to the rental car area to
rent a car. When we did that, we left to a parking garage for rental cars there were a lot of nice cars
there. When we got our call, it was a Van it was nice on the inside. When we reached our hotel it
was dark out and, we were all tired. We had a sweet and my two 10 year cousins slept in one bed

It is not surprising that the primary method used will be desk research. This will be carried out by
using numerous theories of online presence and web design in order to understand what are the
most effective ways of creating an attractive website and building an online presence through which
the company can create more national awareness and have an image base for its external partners.
Different theories will be tested by comparing the need of promoting the company itself to
promoting the products, increase awareness or increase demand. These theories will be tested
accordingly to the companies priority linked to their strategy and long term goals to determine
which theory needs to be applied and which needs to be discarded.
There will be in depth research, carried out thought interviews of 10 professionals within the
domain of web design and web presence in order to gain insight on their experience and expert
advice on the matter. 2 Focus group interviews will be held with medical staff from public hospitals
within Romania for deeper understanding of the needs and wants. Understanding after developing

Cave Allegory
Biographical information: Plato was one of the earliest ancient Greek philosophers who lived from
427 to 347 B.C. He was a student of Socrates, who was also a prominent Greek philosopher at that
time. Socrates had a massive influence on Plato, who called him the most upright man of that day
(The Seventh Letter). Platoadopted his philosophyand dedicated his studies to formation of a noble
character. Born in Athens to a family of aristocrats, Plato attained an exceptional education, most
likely taught by notable educators such as Pythagoras and Parmenides. With the help of these
scholars, Plato began the basis on which he developed a foundation for the study of epistemology
and metaphysics, which connects to his famous cave allegory. Between... Show more content on

In the cave allegory, a man is bound in a cave, which represents misunderstanding, and facing a
wall his entire life with a fire burning behind him. From this fire, he sees shadows and hears
people passing by, so he believes people are two dimensional beings, this is known as perception.
This shows that knowledge gained through the senses is based on opinion. Only the
enlightened ones will break free from the restraints and turn around to see what the shadows
really are. These people are called philosopher kings. Based on this allegory, these men are not
evil, but rather ignorant. They may not perceive racism as immoral based on several factors
such as how and where they were raised and their experiences, but through philosophical
reasoning it can be determined that what they were doing is wrong. Plato believed in civil
disobedience, which is disobeying the law on moral grounds. Carl Lee Hailey took the law into
his own hands because he knew of a previous case similar to his where justice was not served.
Plato would see this as moral because the outcome would not have been just. In addition, the men
in the KKK would use religion as an excuse to carry out unjust

Water Shortages Threaten Food Supplies and Regional Peace ...
Spreading water shortages threaten to reduce the global food supply by more than 10 percent. Left
unaddressed, these shortages could lead to hunger, civil unrest, and even wars over water, reports a
new book from the Worldwatch Institute.
Irrigation accounts for two thirds of global water use, but less than half that water reaches the roots
of plants. Without increasing water productivity in irrigation, major food producing regions will not
have enough water to sustain crop production, said Sandra Postel, author of Pillar of Sand: Can the
Irrigation Miracle Last? The book was funded by the Wallace Genetic Foundation and by the Pew
Fellows Program of the Pew Charitable Trusts.

The Yellow River, the cradle of Chinese civilization, ran dry for a record period in 1997, failing to
reach the sea for 226 days.
With population growing rapidly in many of the most water short regions, water problems are
bound to worsen. The number of people living in water stressed countries is projected to climb
from 470 million to 3 billion by 2025, the study notes. Already many countries do not have enough
water to meet domestic demands for food, creating a source of potential political instability.
Water short countries are increasingly turning to the world grain market. In the swathe of
countries from Morocco across North Africa and the Middle East to Iran, virtually every nation is
facing water shortages as rising populations draw against a limited supply and as irrigation water is
diverted to satisfy growing urban demand. To meet their food needs, these countries are importing
grain. (Importing a ton of wheat is the equivalent of importing 1,000 tons of water.)
Last year, the water required to produce the grain and other farm products imported into the
region was equal to the annual flow of the Nile River. And this deficit is growing year after year.
Jordan is importing some 91 percent of its grain, Israel 87 percent, Libya 85 percent, Saudi Arabia

Flannery O Connor s A Good Man
Flannery O Connor has written multiple books about the two topics she knows best, southern living
and the Catholic religion. Most of her writings focus on humanity s biggest question. What is
required to attain salvation? Growing up as a devout Roman Catholic, O Connor is able to shed
some light into a question that even scholars in the Christian faith are unable to answer. Although O
Connor has multiple books, the one that answers the many questions surrounding salvation best, is
A Good Man is Hard to Find. Throughout A Good Man is Hard to Find, Flannery O Connor
provides her readers with multiple allegories that allude to her belief that humans are nothing more
than fallen, depraved creatures capable of redemption and salvation. In the beginning of the story, O
Connor introduces a somewhat typical familypreparing for vacation with their grandmother.
During their preparation, the family illustrates just how disjointed and manipulative they truly
are. In fact, in an attempt to get her own way, the grandmother tries to scare the family into going
to Tennessee with the news of a killer who escaped prison. Here this fellow that calls himself The
Misfit is aloose from the Federal Pen and headed toward Florida and you read here what it says he
did to these people .(575)
Before the family gets too far in their awkward journey, O Connor tips off her readers of the
eventual future for the family. Foreshadowing is used when the family passes an old burial ground

Reflective Essay On 2016 Elections
During the 2016 elections, I was extremely committed to helping elect Democrats to the US
House of Representatives, and I greatly admire the work that the DCCC did toward this cause.
Now, I would like to begin working on electing as many Democrats as possible to the House in
the 2018 elections, and I would like to intern with the DCCC as a result, since the DCCC is the
primary organization that works to elect Democrats to the House of Representatives. I have

to contact more than 20 campaigns and set up the phone banking systems that we would be
using. Then, during the event itself, I led the logistics of the event in order to ensure that it ran
smoothly. Overall, the event was successful, as we had more than 40 attendees who made
thousands of calls for six hours. As an intern with the DCCC, I would have the same commitment
to taking back the House as I did while organizing this event. I wish to speak with you further

Pros And Cons Of Hypnosis
Hypnosis has emerged over the last twenty years as an extremely effective tool to treat
everything from depression and OCD to quitting smoking and improving self confidence. Lack
of self confidence is more often than not something developed during childhood and
adolescence. It is something that quietly and subconsciously informs all of our actions and
perceptions. As such tackling it from a purely conscious or logical standpoint is going to be very
difficult. Those who have tried cognitive behavioural therapy or CBT often admit feeling a bit
disappointed at the treatments ability to tackle these deep, nebulous issues of self worth and self
confidence. This is because they are purely based in the conscious mind. While CBT type
approaches certainly have their place analysing your thoughts and feelings and trying to bring
them into line with reality is always a good idea CBT has become overly popular as a quick fix
solution to a myriad of problems that potentially it just isn t well suited for.
Hypnosis on the other hand, focuses exclusively on the deep subconscious. Most of us are born
with a fairly high level of self confidence we haven t yet begun to consider ourselves stupid or fat
or unlovable. These beliefs, unfortunately, creep in incredibly quickly. Our understanding of
ourselves and our relationship to the world is determined in ... Show more content on

stressful situations in a calm, controlled environment. For more severe cases, particularly those

are trying to uncover repressed memories should exercise extreme caution as doing so can be very
dangerous in the hands of an inexperienced

Ever since our ancestors began to migrate to this country, we have been in conflict with each other.
Facing off against each other through slavery, the civil war, and even against the Harlem

identity shines through with our fight for freedom, the ability to create our own and america s path

sides fought for what they saw was the best path for America. So, even though the sides fought

has been more important in American history than immigration. All americans came from a
different descent, whether it was African, European, or Asian, every american is different. The
mixing of culture and countries is what makes america uniquely great. Beginning with Christopher
Columbus finding parts of the Caribbean, and ever since then many more explorers came to seek
refuge in the vast continent of America. The melting pot that the immigrants created when they
landed in America added to the american ingenuity. Many immigrants had to take jobs in coal mills,
factories, and many other low collar jobs just to make a living . Many of these immigrants came

Defining Fair Punishment
The first and greatest punishment of the sinner is the conscience of sin.
Lucius Annaeus Seneca
What is the purpose of punishment? Ultimately a fair and effective punishment must not only
prevent future transgressions, but also teach a valuable life lesson. While some punishments may
seem standard: a grounding for breaking curfew, a detention for misbehaving in class, a jail
sentence for robbery, not all punishments are so cut and dry. Take the case of Casey Heynes. A
video which has since gone viral depicts the March 2011 incident. Ritchard Gale, 12, appears to
tease and taunt Casey, 15, and unleash a few unretaliated punches. In response, Casey picks
Ritchard up, and slams him to the ground. While Ritchard was relatively physically unscathed in
the encounter, Casey could have inflicted quite serious damage. It was revealed through family and
witness interviews that Casey was indeed provoked, and had suffered bullying at the hands of
classmates for years. Regardless, school and societal rules were broken, and consequences must
follow. What then, is a fair punishment? Casey Heynes should receive a four day at home
suspension. In addition, he should participate in a bullying prevention group at his school and
attend a one day anger management course. This represents a fair punishment, as it acts as a
reasonable deterrent, allows Casey to demonstrate remorse, and is reflective of both Casey and
Ritchard s feelings. In order for a punishment to be

sponges (square, circle) but if you want to take your roller blind decoration a step further, purchase
some sponges in different shapes like flowers, animals, fruits or simply make some on your own.
You could probably do this while the blind is still hanging, but we would suggest you take it
down to make your work smoother. Dip the sponge into some previously determined color and
swiftly press it onto the blind surface. Make sure you apply enough color, since you do not want

Self Delusion In Macbeth
Macbeth, a play Shakespeare wrote late into his career is one that describes the tyrannical
portrayal of Scottish commander Macbeth as well as his nearly infinite greed and lust for power,
his final days, and the reign of justice in the end. One particular scene that stood out during the play
is Scene Four of Act Three, the celebration that Macbethand the Lords hold in honor of Macbeth s
new throne of power. While both Roman Polanski s and Rupert Goolds variations of the famous
play portray this scene, it can be spoken, and quite explicitly that is, that Goold has created an
excellent display of the beginning of Macbeth s spiral into insanity and self delusion.
When perceived in detail, it can be observed that the moment when Macbeth first acknowledges
Banquo s ghost coming to haunt him for his deeds, the moment when Macbeth s sanity starts to
slip, only then can one truly see the directors line of thought. Beginning with (3.4.50) and leading
up to (3.4.107) the difference becomes quite apparent, and what can be noted is that while Polanski
s version of Banquo s ghost is intended to give the audience an immediate shock, his form moving
with hostility, pale and lifeless, surrounded by blood and gore, fire in eyes. On the contrary, Goold
instead chose to use the feelings that an unsettling and eerie atmosphere invokes in order to convey
this crucial point in the plot. Polanski s ghost immediately begins moving towards Macbeth as if
preparing to unleash a bloody vengeance,

The Job Of A Social Worker
I.Introduction
The job of a social worker is not confined to one geographical area. As a social worker, one could
possibly visit several different neighborhoods in a single week. Because of the vast variety of
clients that a social worker may encounter, cultural competency and sensitivity is an important
concept in this field of work. According to Garthwait (2016), a social worker must be capable of
recognizing, respecting, and accommodating differences while treating all clients with fairness and
equality under the law (p.110). The capability to understand a client s culture, values, perspective,
and life experiences is crucial in determining which services will best suit the individual. Every
client is unique and needs to be treated as such. Thus becoming familiar with a community, a social
worker can better assist clients with their needs.
During Community Immersion, each group was assigned a community in which they were to
assess. One of the communities visited was the city of Santa Monica. Santa Monica is encompassed
in 8.42 square miles (Census Bureau). Its borders are the Pacific Ocean to the west, Centinela
Avenue to the east, San Vicente Boulevard to the north, and Dewey Street to the south, as seen in
Figure 1. Santa Monica s residents may be known to lack diversity but the groups of people drawn
to this city vary. In the most popular areas of the city, it is seen that the appearance and tourism are

The Dangers Of Self Driving
Have you ever seen someone while driving, doing something dangerous? Such as texting, talking
on the phone, eating, and even doing their makeup. Doing such acts can cause catastrophic results.
In drivers Ed, I learned that if you look away from the road for just two seconds, you can end up
being on your way to the hospital. With self drivingtechnology, many shattering wrecks could
have been prevented. Sure, self driving technology may malfunction or even be hacked, but there
are tons of computerized machines like traffic lights, robots in factories, phones and there is
hardly any news about them being hacked. With technology advancing, there are people who
cannot resist the notification sounds that their phone makes while driving. Human beings are
hasty and do their makeup while driving or getting their breakfast or lunch in. With such acts,
driverless cars are beneficial because of distractibility, safety, and rewards. To begin with,
smartphones have become like a drug to people, some cannot live without it and have to have it
with them at all times. Firstly, human distractions while driving puts everyone around in danger.
For example, Jake Pelini author of Unsafe at any Speed shares, that if the distractions were
eliminated 4 million of the 11 million crashes that happen annually could have been eradicated
(Pelini). Thus, removing all distractions while driving could save millions of lives. Secondly,
multitasking is not as easy as it looks. For instance, Jake Pelini

Machado s Unwritten Rules In Baseball
There are unwritten rules in every professional sport that have lasted for generations. For
example, in hockey, many players live by this mantra: If an injury is away from your heart, you
can play. In other words, if you lose a few teeth from a stick slash, or take a few stitches between
periods after absorbing a puck to the face, you re going back in the game because, after all, your
heart is still beating. Hockey players are tough. They re nuts, but they re tough.
Baseball also has a major, unwritten rule: If you intentionally do something bad to my guy, you re
probably going to get plunked by a pitch during your next at bat. During postgame press
conferences, an addendum to this rule is complete denial by all parties involved that ... Show more

The TV cameras documented a verbal exchange between Machado and Pedroia in the aftermath
of the ejections. Machado seemed to be accusing Pedroia of instigating the payback, while
Pedroia vehemently denied it, claiming if he were behind the beaning attempt it would have
happened during Game 1 of the series. Pedroia followed that by saying, It s not me, it s them,
meaning the Barnes/Christian Vazquez battery. As the heart and soul of the Red Sox, and as
great of a player as Pedroia is, it s surprising he would publicly deflect blame for the beaning to
his teammates. Even if that claim is true, there s a time and place for everything, and Pedroia
probably should have had the exchange with Machado privately and not exposed his teammates so
openly.
The incident illustrated that the game has indeed changed. In a famous heated argument between
Jorge Posada and Pedro Martinez following Martinez s beaning of Karim Garcia at Fenway Park
in Game 3 of the 2003 ALCS, the sentiments were quite the opposite. Posada angrily threatened
Martinez for the bean ball, while Martinez motioned to his own head, warning Posada the next time
he faced him he would put one in his ear (watch the video here:

Letters From Iwo Jima Analysis
The film, Letters from Iwo Jima, director by Clint Eastwood, takes place during one of the
bloodiest moments of the pacific theater during WWII. In this film, the fight for the island of
Iwo Jima is told from the perspective of the Japanese soldier, and in doing so, humanizes the
soldier by showing his true feelings regarding war. The Japanese warrior is considered to be
fearless in the face death and willing to do anything for his country. The America soldier holds this
to be true, and the majority of Japanese commanders believe this to be true. Yet, when analyzing
this film, it is clear that not every single soldier has this warrior like attitude. In the beginning of
the film, Saigo is having a dialogue with Shimizu, We are all going... Show more content on

The Japanese commanders attempt to rally their troops in order to prepare them for the almost
certain death they face, We will defend this island until we are dead. Until the very last soldier
is dead (40.20 40.22). These are the words of the Japanese commander attempting to boost
morale among his soldiers. When none of the Japanese soldiers do not respond to this message,
he asks says, We are completely outnumbered in every section but we have a great advantage...
and Shimizu claims, The Americans are weak and inferior to Japanese soldiers (42.30 42.40).
This reasoning is nothing but propaganda and lies that the Japanese soldier is superior. No one
is superior on a battle field where mortars and shells can kill anyone from any distance. All it
takes is the pull of a trigger from yards out to drop a soldier in his tracks. There is no advantage,
yet the Japanese warrior attitude tries to instill the false image that there is. Finally, once the
battle commences it is clear that the larger US army is going to crush the Japanese forces.
Therefore, one of the Japanese commanders says, Escape is a coward s way out. We are
honorable soldiers of the emperor...the only way left for us is to die with honor 105.40 105.45.
After saying this, the commander leads a group suicide ritual that Saigo, does not take part in. Once

Native Americans in the United States and Squanto Essay
Squanto Squanto is a Native American who lived in the early seventeenth century in what is now
the Northeast United States. When the English came to this area of America to settle, they
became very fond of Squanto and used him as a translator due to his unique knowledge of the
English language acquired through an earlier voyage to Europe. Squanto helped the Pilgrims adapt
to their new surroundings by providing them with the knowledge that he and his ancestors used to
survive when they first settled in this area. He became known as a friend to the English and a
spokesman for his Native friends (Johnson p.2). However, in helping the English, Squanto realized

He also acted as an interpreter and a guide to help make the English more comfortable around the
indigenous people (). Without Squanto s help, the Pilgrims would probably have had severe
famine over the next year, and would have lived in constant fear of their indian neighbors (Johnson
p.2); the English could not have survived without the knowledge that Squanto had given them.
However, the friendly side of Squanto is traditionally the only one taught to the American public,
in which he is portrayed as an extremely friendly Native American who devoted much of his time
and effort to helping the European settlers adapt to their newly acquired land. It is true that
Squanto was a great help to the English settlers, however many modern texts, articles, and essays
concerning Squanto neglect to include his betrayal of many Native American tribes in what is
now Connecticut and Long Island(Vine p. 201 ). Many elementary educated students are led to
believe that Squanto simply saved the newcomers from starvation В… and [taught] the Pilgrims
how to survive (David p. 24). This misconception of Squanto is the exact opposite of what many
Natives thought of him(Vine p.201). He became aware of his position with the English and began
to threaten the indians by telling them he would release the plague (Johnson p.2) on them if they
did not do what they were told. He also provided the English with certain secrets that allowed them

Why Was Vasco Da Gama Responsible
many of you might know Vasco Da Gama only as an explorer; however, he was also a voyager

of fifteen ships and 800 men from Lisbon. Later on squadron of five ships led by his cousin,
followed them. During the way out he stopped by Sofala, a gold trading port in East Africa, to
earn gold from them. When Da Gama went across in Indian water he was trying to capture Arab
vessel. Da Gama had actually captured a ship full of passengers and killed everyone in it in the
sea. Da Gama had ordered the Hindu King to have all the Muslims out of Calicut, however this
did not turn out to happen. As a result, Vasco Da Gama had begun to attack the cities that are
near the shore for several days also treating crew s violently from the Muslim s rice vessels and
sending them notes about insulting Zarmorin. Zarmorin as a response they declined to

some were at wars. Vasco Da Gama had decided to leave India having small squadron to protect

Positive Effects Of Industrialization In India
In this research paper, my topic involves how India s industrialization has grown immensely over
the past decades. However, not many have benefited from it as rural populations have become
increasingly populated due to people migrating from their homes, which would decrease
unemployment and food production.
In the research paper, I would answer the questions that involve, if industrialization leave people in
India deeper in poverty or increase the economy. Since, industrialization has become part of Indian
culture it could affect the economy in a positive or negative outcome. Another question that I would
be answering is, how has industrialization affected the community of India and its development.
Industrialization can affect many people who are not accommodated with the change of rural
communities in an urban environment.
The population in India has brought positive effects for markets to increase economic growth.
However, the increase demand to industrialize in rural communities around India would leave
people to migrate to them and cause harm in their resources.
The setting of this research is in India, where it would mainly focus on the rural and urban
communities that have been affected by industrialization.
The industrial revolution in India span through 1770 1850, which it was a time to change the
manufacturing process by innovating and creating new machinery to evolve the Indian industry to
a greater extent. Before the industrial

Point Of View In Cathedral By Raymond Carver
The different uses of point of view in a short story can influence how the reader interprets the text.
For example, the short story Cathedral incorporates the use of first person. First person point of
view is when a narrator conveys an experience from their own perspective. By choosing to use first
person narrative, the author allows the reader to gain a concise understanding of how the narratoris
thinking and feeling. First person narrative is often used because it allows the reader to better
understand the context of the text and the story becomes more intimate for the reader. On the other

The Epic of Gilgamesh
The story about Gilgamesh is one of the earliest pieces of world literature dating back to the
second millennium B.C.E. This story has been evolved gradually over a long span of a
millennium, and has been enjoyed by many nations. The Epic of Gilgamesh teaches life lessons that
apply to the past and present while revolving around the question of what it means to be human, and
to experience the phenomenon of friendship, love, and death.
Notably, the thing about human life is that everyone desires friendship or to be simply not be
alone. In the story of the epic of Gilgamesh talks about how friendship changed his whole life.
Gilgamesh used to be a terrible ruler led by arrogance, and brutality of his people. He was
overconsumed with power, therefore doing whatever he wanted whenever he wanted. It seemed
that Gilgamesh grew bored of life, and had a deep hole in his heart as such something was
missing from his life. One day Gilgamesh told his mother I want a friend for my own counselor,
for my own Counselor do I want a friend (Foster 106). He needed someone to confide in as well
as talk too about his plans and future. Gilgamesh had everything in his life from riches to power,
but it seemed like the thing he craved more than success was someone to take the journey beside

The Portrayal Of Zombies In Popular Culture
Over the past few years, there has been a new craze over the undead , zombies. Like all monsters,
zombies have become a thing no longer just feared and instead obsessed over. Now, they can be
found on posters, movies, and even t shirts for not only adults, but also children. This zombie
sensation wiping the country has a varying portrayal. No two zombiemovies are exactly the same,
but many themes can be found similar in all of them. Supposedly apocalyptic, zombies are
generally destructive and devilish. If this is true, why are they becoming so popular and is today s
culture portraying zombies correctly? Zombies, generally, are any human beings that are mindless,

Maybe our entire perspective of what zombies are is actually wrong. From my knowledge,
zombies that are feared to bring the apocalypse are actually living beside us today. People in
today s society have become enslaved by many things, especially by their own desires. Like
zombies, they live day by day, emotionless and persistent. They do the same thing, the same way,
365 days a year. In my opinion, zombies are not only the dead who are living, but also the living
who are dead. Zombies in real life aren t cannibalistic, but in the process of getting what they
want, they may cause destruction. The destruction can occur because, like zombies, living
zombies will also do whatever it takes to fulfill their desires. I believe that zombies shouldn t be

Existentialism in Art
Existentialism is highly regarded when it comes to artists and artwork. Sartre is a well known
prominent advocate in the post war period. Sartre wrote essays about artists work which helped
viewers translate philosophy into visual art and by doing this viewers are able to understand the
reasons behind the artwork and along with the understanding comes a deeper appreciation for
the art. If man is unexplainable it is because we make ourselves so if he is indefinable it is
because at first he is nothing (Sartre) he must create who he will be.( www.theartstory.org)
Sartre spoke these words to the artwork of the post war period. Jean Dubuffet and Wols art work
is able to address the coexistence of mind and body on which humans need. Ponty believes that
art does not have to be perfect and symmetrical its science does not have to be exact as long as it
captures the eye of the observers than it has done its job correctly. Existentialismin art is for the
artist to be completely free with every stroke of the hand. The art of the artist is dependent on the
time and place in which the artist is born. Following the first and second World Wars, the decades
of fighting and relentless political turmoil it comes as no surprise that a philosophy that invokes

The Palette Of King Narmer
The Palette of King Narmer Stretching across ten countries and spanning over four thousand
miles, the Nile River became the heart of Egyptian civilization. The lower (northern) Nile
overflowed its banks several months out of the year before the creation of the Aswan High Dam
in 1970. When the floodwaters receded, they left a new layer of rich silt behind, making the
surrounding valley and delta a fertile and desirable habitat. As early as 8000 BCE, the people
who inhabited the valley of the world s longest river became relatively sedentary and in 5000 BCE
they adopted the agricultural village life commonly associated with Neolithic culture. Throughout
the Predynastic period, the North African climate was immensely dry. In order to combat this
problem, many villages formed alliances that worked to control the river s flow. Over time, these
small federations of villages conquered and absorbed other weaker ones. As communities grew into
chiefdoms, they began to advance rapidly toward refined civilization shortly after 3600 BCE. Egypt
became a consolidated state at the beginning the Early Dynastic Period in 3000 BCE. According
to legend, following creation, Upper Egypt in the south and Lower Egypt in the north were both
unified under Menes. Originally a powerful ruler from Upper Egypt, Menes conquered Lower
Egypt and became the first ruler to preside over a unified Egypt. The Palette of Narmer was created
in the Early Dynastic Period between 2950 2775 BCE and is often

As a private retail company, Healthy Potion has few external stakeholders and it means that the
owner has the perfect control of all stores. In addition, the business has obtained a brand name,
which has a large amount of recurring customers from the significantly increasing sales, and it helps
to improve the customers power and loyalty (Guthrie 2008). However, there are several weaknesses
existing in the business. The production of the beverages requires the importation of some special
concentrate from China and that means there are high delivery costs and import duty costs..
Nevertheless, the single product business model lacks diversity and can hardly satisfy customers
expectation in products and have sustainable growth in the future. Healthy Potion is a business that
produces unique healthy non alcohol beverages, and it is a relatively new business in the beverage
industry. That means the business has a tight budget and limited financial resources, such as
funding, sources of income and investment opportunities (Australian Beverage Council 2013). The
business also faces with opportunities as well as threats. Healthy Potion keeps in firm connection
with Chinese suppliers and it can bring benefits to getting increasing reputation and competitive

Augustus Caesar: The Caesar Legacy
Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man s character, give him power. ,
said Abraham Lincoln. Power can be either be a wonderful thing in the hands of the right person,
or a dangerous thing in the hands of the wrong person. However, Abraham Lincoln draws the
conclusion on the fact of how power can even corrupt a person who has overcome many
difficulties in life, and may believe they can also withstand the substantial effect power can have
on a person. And if someone truly wants to understand the personality of someone, give them
power and see how they handle it. The idea of power and the abuse of power has been seen all

Augustus ended up getting married three times, although his first union, to Mark Antony s

who already had two sons Tiberius and Drusus by her first husband, Mark Antony s ally Tiberius

User authentication
With the rapid increase in the number of attempted breaches and resulting damages, there is an
increased need for user authentication, especially with numerous unknown mobile devices with
which consumers are using to access to IT resources.
Users of these mobile devices can be authenticated by the use of passwords or hardware token
devices and both password and hardware one time password (OTP) in most cases. Generally,
while the use of passwords are inexpensive, they are thought to be a relatively insecure form of
security. Hardware OTPs, on the other hand, tend to be a more secure form of security, but are
more expensive and may also be susceptible to more advanced attacks, such as the man in the

The Economic Success Of The 21st Century
In the 21st century it is correct to claim that our interconnected world is becoming smaller. With
globalization, the nature of economy and politics is vividly transforming. United States is the
best example as the trail blazer of the new policies, changes and with that, U.S. is a role model
for world s powers. Looking from the economist s perspective of how to explain such advantage,
open door trade is one of the factors that explain its success. Great number of economists stands
unified in support of free trade. This paper will discuss some major points that revolve around the
central idea which explains that in order to achieve economic success in today s world requires free
trade, which entails liberalization to attract international... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Krugman 1987,131) Free trade supporters make a point that if we don t move toward
liberalization, the gravity of protectionism and political interests will pull us back bicycle theory .
(Bergsten 1996, 109). The successful example of bicycle moving forward is the Uruguay Round
conclusion. (Bergsten 1996, 109). Following that NAFTA and such, have made a significant
progress in resolving debate in the international trade arena. Liberalist economists insist that with
openness toward international trade, countries benefit in multiple segments and knowledge is one
of the major exchanges which are crucial for improvement. ( O Brien Williams 2013,112)
Therefore, it is important to understand liberalist perspective at first. Economic liberalist view
human nature acting rational in order to maximize their self interest. This theory strongly support
the thought where individuals when acting rationally create markets which produce, distribute and
consume goods function best free. This way international wealth is maximized with exchange of
goods and services which is also a comparative advantage based theoretical aspect. (Mingst Toft,
2104, 310) With Ricardo s comparative advantage, it s important to mention specialization of a
commodity that a specific country can produce more efficiently in exchange for another commodity.

How Did Fidel Castro Rise To Power
Fidel was born on August 13th, 1926 in Cuba s Oriente province. His father owned a sugar
plantation, and originally lived in spain. Castro was the third of six children, and his mother was
formerly a maid to his father, and Castro was conceived while his father was still wed to his first
wife. Eventually Angel, his father, learned of his paternity to Fidel, and formally recognized
him as his son when Fidel was 17. He grew up in a wealthy environment, attending well off
boarding schools. In school, he was something of a troublemaker, more interested in sports and
other activities than he was in his education. He did however display intellectual prowess, and he
attended El Colegio de Belen, where he was a pitcher for their baseball team. He graduated in

the Cuban government. With his death, perhaps this will one day be remedied, but that is yet to be

There are executives and top managers who seek the easy way to make the most money for them,

Conclusion
The Lehman Brothers case is another unfortunate financial crisis. Their company affected many
shareholders and financial institutions around the world. The leadership of Lehman Brothers failed
to uphold their mission statement and the financial rewards for themselves undermine their
decision making processes. Self interest led them to make decisions that were extremely risky than
their own internal controls were designed to control, and top executives received high

Essay on Business Process Redesign Or Reengineering

Business Process Redesign (BPR) or Reengineering is quot;the fundamental rethinking and radical

The Usage of Textisms is Not Causing Illiteracy in Young People
Recently, cell phone SMS texting has become an indispensable tool in communication among
young people as it has surpassed all other common forms of interaction in frequency of use.
According to Pew Research Center‟s communication study on texting, fully 72% of all teens or

specific language techniques that are used in texts were related to better word reading scores.
Examples of such techniques include, greater use of contractions (txt instead of text), g clippings
(goin in place of going), symbols (emoticons plus single characters such as in place of words), letter
/number homophones (2nite), nonconventional spellings (fone), and accent stylization (e.g., elp
instead of help) (Rosen et al., 2010, p.
422). All of these techniques are regularly used in text messaging and usage could lead to school
age children becoming better readers.
Deciphering textisms often requires using good linguistic strategies that are good intellectual
exercise. Texters need to be able to pronounce words phonetically when they are not spelled in an
orthodox fashion, reinstate vowels that have been removed in the interest of brevity, or have
letters and numbers pronounced as their names (8 for ate) (Kemp, 2010). A National Union of
Teachers spokeswoman suggested that abbreviations used in texts can boost literacy skills because
it helps children to learn how words divide into syllables

Describing Phantom Limb Experience Essay
Describing Phantom Limb Experience
Of people who have had body parts amputated, about 80 percent experience some sort of phantom
limb sensation. This experience, which can range from severe shooting pain to merely feeling the
presence of the absent limb, most often occurs in amputees but sometimes manifests itself in
individuals whose limbs have been missing since birth. The sensations patients experience are not
necessarily of the same strength, location, or duration from occurrence to occurrence, and the
frequency of episodes often fluctuates over time. Especially in the case of amputees, who have
lived a significant portion of their lives with the limb in question, it would make sense that there be
a psychological element to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This wiring between the cerebral cortex and the rest of the body has been the focus of research on
phantom limb pain. From this research, several theories have emerged.
Merzenich and Kaas amputated monkeys fingers and expected to find no nervous response in the
part of the homunculus whose bodily analog no longer existed. Instead, this region of the cerebral
cortex fired when the fingers next to the amputation site were stimulated. Their conclusion was that
preexisting axon branches that had innervated the region were unmasked, which allows for
nervous response without any new neuronal growth. This idea upheld Hubel and Wiesel s concept
of the hardwired brain, in which the cerebral cortex s map is set at birth. Ramachandran also had a
similar idea of hidden circuitry, arguing that phantom limb sensation could not be the result of new
neuronal growth as the sensation s onset was often as soon as a month or two after amputation,
which be enough time for the brain to remap but not for new cells to develop.
Pons research, however, came to conclusions that challenged this hardwired model. His work with
monkeys indicated cortical remapping significant enough that sensation for an entire amputated
arm could be caused by stimulation of the face; this part of the cortex had taken over responding for
the nonexistent arm. Such change in the nervous system would have to incorporate new neuronal
growth.

The Democratic And The Republican Parties Dominate...

Government 110
Political Ideology
The Democratic and the Republican parties dominate American politics. They are both different in
their philosophies and ideals. Political parties win elections, operate the government, and determine
public policy. They compete with each other for support of the voters over issues that have to do
with the economy, national security and individual liberties. Political parties determine and make
the important choices that affect our everyday lives. Democratic is liberal and left leaning, the
symbol is a donkey and the representing color is blue. Republican is conservative and right leaning,
the symbol is an elephant and the representing color is red. The three political topics that stick out
to me the most are abortion, gun control, and gay rights/marriage. The Democratic Party was
founded on March 3rd, 1828. The founders of liberal democrats are Thomas Jefferson and James
Madison. They became recognized in the mid nineteenth century. Some popular current democrats
would be President Barack Hussein Obama, former senator and secretary of state Hillary Clinton,
and former president Bill Clinton. The word is a Greek origin meaning ruled by the people. Slave
activists founded Republicans on March 4th, 1854. Some popular republicans today are Ted Cruz
(senator), Orrin Grant Hatch, and John Boehner speaker of the house of reps. The word Republican
originates from the middle French meaning belonging to a republic. One

  • 2. David Foster Wallace s Essay Consider The Lobster Throughout the course of David Foster Wallace s essay, Consider the Lobster, he uses many different methods to try and convince his audience in fact it is seemingly inhumane to boil lobsters. Wallace proves to the reader that the proponents of the Maine Lobster Festival, home of the World s Largest LobsterCooker, support their style of killing the lobster by falsely arguing that lobsters do not feel pain, when in fact they do. By examining the essay, it is apparent that Wallace is writing to more than one audience. One audience that he is writing to is the readers of Gourmet, the magazine that this essay was published in. However, it is important to note that this essay is also being written to those people who would not have read the magazine otherwise, that is the people that who are purely reading this article because it was written by Wallace. Because there is such a broad audience, it is nearly impossible for every piece of evidence given to effect each read the same way. Below I will examine a piece of evidence that appeals to only one audience, as well as evidence that does in fact appeal to both. To begin with, the cab scene is imperative in supporting Wallace s... Wallace says that while the lobster is boilingit ...behaves as much as you or I would... (Wallace 62). Wallace writes about the ...rattling and clanking... of the lobsters while they boil and how their ...claws [scrape] the side of the kettle as it thrashes..., using onomatopoeias to make the scenario all so real for the reader (Wallace ... Doyle HUM 102 301 10/15/16 Research paper St. Paul Cathedral Introduction: This semester my paper will be discussing Christopher Wren s building St. Paul s Cathedral , and why St. Paul s Cathedral is considered to be the most important and famous masterpiece of England s architecture? The St. Paul Cathedral of Sir Christopher Wren was chosen because it is famously interpreted in the baroque style in England, and dominated English architecture. St. Paul s cathedral is one of the most famous important building because it was built on an earlier church that was severely damaged in the Great Fire of London. It is considered as one of the best symbol of English baroque architecture . It was rebuilt and designed by Christopher Wren, who also rebuilt over fifty churches that were damaged in Great Fire of London. It is one of the tallest buildings of London. St. Paul s is the most brilliant building that I ve heard that it was done by a acclaimed artist in London after it was destroyed, and rebuild again. Concession: Looking at the most ten famous building in London none of them will take your attention as St. Paul Cathedral that took forty years to build after it was destroyed. Also, it was designed and built by one of the most famous English architects in the history Sir Christopher Wren . It is said to be at the highest point of the city London. Its dome is elegant as framed by the spires of Wren s city churches. Main Body #1: First in this main ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Dance Concert Essay The 2017 Spring Works Dance Concert, presented by Purdue s Contemporary Dance Company, displayed various dance pieces that had diverse choreographic structures and appeared to be created from compositional processes that were very similar to the processes we explored in class. All of the choreographers in this concert exhibited their own works through exclusive compositional tools. For example, in the work Unlocking Energy , choreographed by Mary Beth Van Dyke, the sustained arm movements initiated throughout her piece appeared to glide from one motion to the next with ease. The arm movements in this piece differed considerably when compared to the hand gestures in 12th Drowned , choreographed by Kathleen Hickey. The hand gestures in 12th... For example, the unique production elements, such as: white wigs and upstage lighting, enabled the audience to immediately become engrossed in the dark meaning of the piece. Additionally, the compositional tools such as: even phrasing, and fast tempos displayed throughout the piece, made the overall energy of State of Affairs elevated. At times, it appeared, that even during the parts of the movements that contrasted with the music, the audience could not look away from the dancers movements. Without any one of these elements, I believe the piece could be understood in a very different way, which is not bad but is also not supportive of what the work is trying to portray overall. Ultimately, Carol Cunningham Sigman s piece, as well as the rest of the pieces in the concert, made the 2017 Spring Works DanceConcert, a hard concert to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He was a student of Socrates, who was also a prominent Greek philosopher at that time. Socrates had a massive influence on Plato, who called him the most upright man of that day (The Seventh Letter). Platoadopted his philosophyand dedicated his studies to formation of a noble character. Born in Athens to a family of aristocrats, Plato attained an exceptional education, most likely taught by notable educators such as Pythagoras and Parmenides. From this fire, he sees shadows and hears people passing by, so he believes people are two dimensional beings, this is known as perception. This shows that knowledge gained through the senses is based on opinion. Only the enlightened ones will break free from the restraints and turn around to see what the shadows really are. These people are called philosopher kings. Based on this allegory, these men are not evil, but rather ignorant. They may not perceive racism as immoral based on several factors such as how and where they were raised and their experiences, but through philosophical reasoning it can be determined that what they were doing is wrong. Plato believed in civil disobedience, which is disobeying the law on moral grounds. Carl Lee Hailey took the law into his own hands because he knew of a previous case similar to his where justice was not served. Plato would see this as moral because the outcome would not have been just. In addition, the men in the KKK would use religion as an excuse to carry out unjust ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Water Shortages Threaten Food Supplies and Regional Peace ... Spreading water shortages threaten to reduce the global food supply by more than 10 percent. Left unaddressed, these shortages could lead to hunger, civil unrest, and even wars over water, reports a new book from the Worldwatch Institute. Irrigation accounts for two thirds of global water use, but less than half that water reaches the roots of plants. Without increasing water productivity in irrigation, major food producing regions will not have enough water to sustain crop production, said Sandra Postel, author of Pillar of Sand: Can the Irrigation Miracle Last? The book was funded by the Wallace Genetic Foundation and by the Pew Fellows Program of the Pew Charitable Trusts. Some 40 percent of the world s food comes from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Yellow River, the cradle of Chinese civilization, ran dry for a record period in 1997, failing to reach the sea for 226 days. With population growing rapidly in many of the most water short regions, water problems are bound to worsen. The number of people living in water stressed countries is projected to climb from 470 million to 3 billion by 2025, the study notes. Already many countries do not have enough water to meet domestic demands for food, creating a source of potential political instability. Water short countries are increasingly turning to the world grain market. In the swathe of countries from Morocco across North Africa and the Middle East to Iran, virtually every nation is facing water shortages as rising populations draw against a limited supply and as irrigation water is diverted to satisfy growing urban demand. To meet their food needs, these countries are importing grain. (Importing a ton of wheat is the equivalent of importing 1,000 tons of water.) Last year, the water required to produce the grain and other farm products imported into the region was equal to the annual flow of the Nile River. And this deficit is growing year after year. • 9. Flannery O Connor s A Good Man Flannery O Connor has written multiple books about the two topics she knows best, southern living and the Catholic religion. Most of her writings focus on humanity s biggest question. What is required to attain salvation? Growing up as a devout Roman Catholic, O Connor is able to shed some light into a question that even scholars in the Christian faith are unable to answer. Although O Connor has multiple books, the one that answers the many questions surrounding salvation best, is A Good Man is Hard to Find. Throughout A Good Man is Hard to Find, Flannery O Connor provides her readers with multiple allegories that allude to her belief that humans are nothing more than fallen, depraved creatures capable of redemption and salvation. In the beginning of the story, O Connor introduces a somewhat typical familypreparing for vacation with their grandmother. During their preparation, the family illustrates just how disjointed and manipulative they truly are. In fact, in an attempt to get her own way, the grandmother tries to scare the family into going to Tennessee with the news of a killer who escaped prison. Here this fellow that calls himself The Misfit is aloose from the Federal Pen and headed toward Florida and you read here what it says he did to these people .(575) Before the family gets too far in their awkward journey, O Connor tips off her readers of the eventual future for the family. • 11. Pros And Cons Of Hypnosis Hypnosis has emerged over the last twenty years as an extremely effective tool to treat everything from depression and OCD to quitting smoking and improving self confidence. Lack of self confidence is more often than not something developed during childhood and adolescence. It is something that quietly and subconsciously informs all of our actions and perceptions. As such tackling it from a purely conscious or logical standpoint is going to be very difficult. Those who have tried cognitive behavioural therapy or CBT often admit feeling a bit disappointed at the treatments ability to tackle these deep, nebulous issues of self worth and self confidence. This is because they are purely based in the conscious mind. While CBT type approaches certainly have their place analysing your thoughts and feelings and trying to bring them into line with reality is always a good idea CBT has become overly popular as a quick fix solution to a myriad of problems that potentially it just isn t well suited for. Hypnosis on the other hand, focuses exclusively on the deep subconscious. Ultimately a fair and effective punishment must not only prevent future transgressions, but also teach a valuable life lesson. While some punishments may seem standard: a grounding for breaking curfew, a detention for misbehaving in class, a jail sentence for robbery, not all punishments are so cut and dry. Take the case of Casey Heynes. A video which has since gone viral depicts the March 2011 incident. Ritchard Gale, 12, appears to tease and taunt Casey, 15, and unleash a few unretaliated punches. In response, Casey picks Ritchard up, and slams him to the ground. While Ritchard was relatively physically unscathed in the encounter, Casey could have inflicted quite serious damage. It was revealed through family and witness interviews that Casey was indeed provoked, and had suffered bullying at the hands of classmates for years. Regardless, school and societal rules were broken, and consequences must follow. What then, is a fair punishment? Casey Heynes should receive a four day at home suspension. In addition, he should participate in a bullying prevention group at his school and attend a one day anger management course. This represents a fair punishment, as it acts as a reasonable deterrent, allows Casey to demonstrate remorse, and is reflective of both Casey and Ritchard s feelings. Self Delusion In Macbeth Macbeth, a play Shakespeare wrote late into his career is one that describes the tyrannical portrayal of Scottish commander Macbeth as well as his nearly infinite greed and lust for power, his final days, and the reign of justice in the end. One particular scene that stood out during the play is Scene Four of Act Three, the celebration that Macbethand the Lords hold in honor of Macbeth s new throne of power. While both Roman Polanski s and Rupert Goolds variations of the famous play portray this scene, it can be spoken, and quite explicitly that is, that Goold has created an excellent display of the beginning of Macbeth s spiral into insanity and self delusion. When perceived in detail, it can be observed that the moment when Macbeth first acknowledges Banquo s ghost coming to haunt him for his deeds, the moment when Macbeth s sanity starts to slip, only then can one truly see the directors line of thought. Beginning with (3.4.50) and leading up to (3.4.107) the difference becomes quite apparent, and what can be noted is that while Polanski s version of Banquo s ghost is intended to give the audience an immediate shock, his form moving with hostility, pale and lifeless, surrounded by blood and gore, fire in eyes. On the contrary, Goold instead chose to use the feelings that an unsettling and eerie atmosphere invokes in order to convey this crucial point in the plot. As a social worker, one could possibly visit several different neighborhoods in a single week. Because of the vast variety of clients that a social worker may encounter, cultural competency and sensitivity is an important concept in this field of work. According to Garthwait (2016), a social worker must be capable of recognizing, respecting, and accommodating differences while treating all clients with fairness and equality under the law (p.110). The capability to understand a client s culture, values, perspective, and life experiences is crucial in determining which services will best suit the individual. Every client is unique and needs to be treated as such. Thus becoming familiar with a community, a social worker can better assist clients with their needs. During Community Immersion, each group was assigned a community in which they were to assess. One of the communities visited was the city of Santa Monica. With self drivingtechnology, many shattering wrecks could have been prevented. Stars Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston, Chris Hemsworth, and Samuel L. Jackson. Directed by Joss Whedon. This movie was fantastic. It was what the first two Iron Man movies, The Incredible Hulk that starred Edward Norton as Bruce/ Hulk, Thor , and Captain America were all leading up to. It was the biggest problem they had ever faced, and it forced them to pull together. The film does, however take some time to get going; the group is off each doing their own thing, and needs to be called in. The beginning of the film was a little slow, but the more you watch of the movie, the more interesting things get. Avengers features a lot of action, especially when the Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D. battle the aliens Loki brought to Earth, but the movie features a story too. Analysis Of The Epic Of Gilgamesh Essay Georgia Perimeter College Epic of Gilgamesh Jung M Gu World Literature 129 Liam Madden 12/2/2016 Jung Gu Professor Liam Madden World Literature 11/30/16 The Epic of Gilgamesh The story about Gilgamesh is one of the earliest pieces of world literature dating back to the second millennium B.C.E. This story has been evolved gradually over a long span of a millennium, and has been enjoyed by many nations. The Epic of Gilgamesh teaches life lessons that apply to the past and present while revolving around the question of what it means to be human, and to experience the phenomenon of friendship, love, and death. Notably, the thing about human life is that everyone desires friendship or to be simply not be alone. In the story of the epic of Gilgamesh talks about how friendship changed his whole life. Gilgamesh used to be a terrible ruler led by arrogance, and brutality of his people. He was overconsumed with power, therefore doing whatever he wanted whenever he wanted. It seemed that Gilgamesh grew bored of life, and had a deep hole in his heart as such something was missing from his life. One day Gilgamesh told his mother I want a friend for my own counselor, for my own Counselor do I want a friend (Foster 106). This zombie sensation wiping the country has a varying portrayal. No two zombiemovies are exactly the same, but many themes can be found similar in all of them. The destruction can occur because, like zombies, living zombies will also do whatever it takes to fulfill their desires. I believe that zombies shouldn t be feared or believed to cause an apocalypse. Sartre wrote essays about artists work which helped viewers translate philosophy into visual art and by doing this viewers are able to understand the reasons behind the artwork and along with the understanding comes a deeper appreciation for the art. If man is unexplainable it is because we make ourselves so if he is indefinable it is because at first he is nothing (Sartre) he must create who he will be.( www.theartstory.org) Sartre spoke these words to the artwork of the post war period. Existentialismin art is for the artist to be completely free with every stroke of the hand. The art of the artist is dependent on the time and place in which the artist is born. Following the first and second World Wars, the decades of fighting and relentless political turmoil it comes as no surprise that a philosophy that invokes man, the individual s existence at its core had such an extensive following. • 40. The Palette Of King Narmer The Palette of King Narmer Stretching across ten countries and spanning over four thousand miles, the Nile River became the heart of Egyptian civilization. The lower (northern) Nile overflowed its banks several months out of the year before the creation of the Aswan High Dam in 1970. When the floodwaters receded, they left a new layer of rich silt behind, making the surrounding valley and delta a fertile and desirable habitat. As early as 8000 BCE, the people who inhabited the valley of the world s longest river became relatively sedentary and in 5000 BCE they adopted the agricultural village life commonly associated with Neolithic culture. Throughout the Predynastic period, the North African climate was immensely dry. In order to combat this problem, many villages formed alliances that worked to control the river s flow. Over time, these small federations of villages conquered and absorbed other weaker ones. As communities grew into chiefdoms, they began to advance rapidly toward refined civilization shortly after 3600 BCE. Egypt became a consolidated state at the beginning the Early Dynastic Period in 3000 BCE. According to legend, following creation, Upper Egypt in the south and Lower Egypt in the north were both unified under Menes. This experience, which can range from severe shooting pain to merely feeling the presence of the absent limb, most often occurs in amputees but sometimes manifests itself in individuals whose limbs have been missing since birth. The sensations patients experience are not necessarily of the same strength, location, or duration from occurrence to occurrence, and the frequency of episodes often fluctuates over time. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This wiring between the cerebral cortex and the rest of the body has been the focus of research on phantom limb pain. From this research, several theories have emerged. Merzenich and Kaas amputated monkeys fingers and expected to find no nervous response in the part of the homunculus whose bodily analog no longer existed. Instead, this region of the cerebral cortex fired when the fingers next to the amputation site were stimulated. Their conclusion was that preexisting axon branches that had innervated the region were unmasked, which allows for nervous response without any new neuronal growth. This idea upheld Hubel and Wiesel s concept of the hardwired brain, in which the cerebral cortex s map is set at birth. Ramachandran also had a similar idea of hidden circuitry, arguing that phantom limb sensation could not be the result of new neuronal growth as the sensation s onset was often as soon as a month or two after amputation, which be enough time for the brain to remap but not for new cells to develop. Pons research, however, came to conclusions that challenged this hardwired model. His work with monkeys indicated cortical remapping significant enough that sensation for an entire amputated arm could be caused by stimulation of the face; this part of the cortex had taken over responding for the nonexistent arm. Such change in the nervous system would have to incorporate new neuronal growth. Case studies described on Macalester s web site seem to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They are both different in their philosophies and ideals. Political parties win elections, operate the government, and determine public policy. Political parties determine and make the important choices that affect our everyday lives. Democratic is liberal and left leaning, the symbol is a donkey and the representing color is blue. Republican is conservative and right leaning, the symbol is an elephant and the representing color is red. The three political topics that stick out to me the most are abortion, gun control, and gay rights/marriage. The Democratic Party was founded on March 3rd, 1828. The founders of liberal democrats are Thomas Jefferson and James Madison. They became recognized in the mid nineteenth century. Some popular current democrats would be President Barack Hussein Obama, former senator and secretary of state Hillary Clinton, and former president Bill Clinton.
