Project Blue Book Essay
Project Blue Book in 1952 marked the first governmental effort to investigate the existence of
UFOs. Hysteria among the public concerning UFO sightings prompted the creation of the project
by the United States Air Force. The various sightings of unidentified aircraft in U.S. airspace
concerned the government, as the timing of the sightings coincided with the societal panic
induced by the Red Scare. Air Force investigators quickly grew irritated of pursuing nonsensical
UFO civilian reports for a 15 year period. In 1966, the Air Force contracted a group of scientists to
research all aspects related to UFOs in an effort expedite the conclusion of Project Blue Book. The
committee of independent scientists led by Edward Condon published a report... Show more content

Furthermore, the private contractors employed by the firm may be selected based on past warfare
experience and are generally more available than governmentally controlled defense forces. The
government money loaned to the firm can be allocated to establishing counter defense mechanisms
against UAVs, comprised of a detecting and neutralizing component. Radar systems are the
detecting component of the system, capable of electronically detecting UAVs from long ranges.
The radar s ability to spot potential threats from large distances allows preparation time to neutralize
the threat. The most efficient countermeasure against UAVs is jamming the operator s connection
to the device, and then intercepting the signal to overtake control of the drone. The dual component
defense mechanism is ideal for the current technological landscape, as it readily identifies and
disarms any potential

How Did The Industrial Revolution Dbq
Since the beginning of man, the human race has gone through many changes throughout history.
One of the most significant and critical changes was the Industrial Revolution of Great Britain.
Characterized by the development of new manufacturing processes, the Industrial Revolution was a
period between the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries that spurred extensive changes in almost
every aspect of society. These changes stimulated a major transformation in the way of life and
created a modern urban society based on industrial manufacturing and not agricultural production.
The Industrial Revolutiondebuted in England because of changes in the textile industry and
agriculture leading to a more stable economic platform, an ever increasing demand for coal, and
international success in the trading market, resulting in the development and improvement of daily

Initially, charcoal and wood were used a fuel source, but as those resources became scarce, coal
became a necessity. As shown in Document 1, England was fortunate enough to have a readily
available coal supply that other countries in Europe were not able to have. As England became
industrialized, more coal was needed to fuel steam engines and furnaces. The development of
factories and the improvement of the steam engine also increased the demand for coal. As a result,
coal mines that were once mined at the surface, now got deeper and deeper, and there was too
much water to safely get more coal. When the Newcomen engine was put into use at the coal
mines, coal was put into the steam engine to pump more coal out. Similarly almost every other
piece of technology in that time period used coal as the main fuel source so the need for coal
skyrocketed. Document 4 explains how England had the natural conditions necessary to succeed
such as coal, which is a major reason the Industrial Revolution started in England and not in any

Alcohol Is The Biggest Killer Of Young People
Just as Vodka is the drink often associated with Russian culture, Guinness dark stout beer is the
drink often associated with Irish culture. This culture is often known for heavy drinking and
friendly pubs. Irish whiskey such as Jameson is proudly consumed and exported. Alcohol is the
biggest killer of young people in Ireland and many are impacted by their parents drinking. One
person dies every seven hours due to alcohol in Ireland. Nine out of ten public order crimes in
Ireland are alcohol related and one tenth of the health budget is spent on dealing with alcohol
related harm. Studies conducted at universities in Ireland found that drinking behaviors were
impacted by having fathers or older siblings with drinking problems. The environment the child
grows up in can be highly influential in the child s attitudes toward alcohol and what they think
is normal, and this applies in any culture. One of the most attractive parts of Irish culture is the
local pub. The pub has always been known as a place to get together, meet friends, and begin
romantic relationships. Tourists from all over the world flood to Dublin during Saint Patrick s
Day to walk the famed O Connell Street just to involve themselves in the binge drinking tradition
and pay a visit to the famed pubs so well known in Irish culture. The pub tradition is just as
prominent in Scottish and English culture. Underage drinking is a normal occurrence and widely
accepted in these cultures. Germany has a long history of

California Prison System
The California prison system was created in response to the increased amount of criminal activity
that sparked during the Gold Rush years. Prior to the Gold Rush, California had prided itself on
being a land of health, beauty, and opportunity (Bookspan, xviii). However, immigration and
population growth surged, especially amongst foreign convicts and aliens , resulting in increased
crime. At first, it was decided that punishment for small crimes would be a beating by whip while
punishment for serious crimes, like robbery or murder, would be hanging (Kidport). After becoming
a state in 1850, the California governor John McDougal reacted to this method of punishment by
beginning what is known as the California PrisonSystem. The first prison within California was San
Quentin, which began to receive inmates in 1854, next was Folsom State Prison in 1880, then
California Correctional Institution in 1933, California Institution for Men in 1941, and California
Institute for Women in 1952 as well as multiple California state prisons that have opened since then
in cities such as San Diego, Sacramento, Chowchilla, Avenal, Corcoran, Susanville, Vacaville,
Crescent City, and many more (California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation). The early
California prison systems were very much influenced by the Auburn prison system, from the
Auburn Correctional Facility in Auburn, New York. This system imposed solitary confinement to
silence prisoners and promote meditations, but still

Prelude and The Wasteland by T.S. Elliot
In our daily lives, we are too busy to do the things that we always want to do. So, we live lives of
boring repetition. However, we have become adjusted to it so almost none of us complain. T.S.
Eliot was born in St. Louis, Missouri and eventually moved to London, England. Extremely well
educated, Eliot wrote many highly praised poems. For example, The Waste Landwas assembled out
of dramatic vignettes based on Eliot s London life. Another poem, Preludes, talks about the daily
lives of people where it starts off simple, but leads into something deeper than everyday life.
Three reasons why I relate to Preludes by T.S. Eliot are evenings, mornings, and spiritually. In
Preludes by T.S Eliot, a city is being described by all the things that happen in the evening. The
smell of steaks is everywhere. When this poem was composed, steaks were inexpensive and
were commonly eaten by members of the lower class. I can relate to this part of the poem
because my family cooks steaks and my town calms down in the way that the city being described
does. The poem then goes on to describe how a gusty shower wraps the grimy scraps of withered
leaves about your feet and newspapers from vacant lots. The streetsare gross and unattractive and
the street lights flicker on and off. Parts of Worland have grimy looking streets and houses like this
city does. A lonely cab horse chugs along the darkened streets. I believe that part of the poem is
telling us that life is empty at night and everything

Shrew Vs Biancate
Touchstone Picture s 1999 film Ten Things I Hate About You is an adaptation of the eminent
playwright William Shakespeare s 16th century comedy The Taming of the Shrew. The plots follow
a key idea where, Bianca will be allowed to become romantically entangled when Katerina does,
through this key concept the cast encounters many issues and adventures. The productions share
similar plots, this is achieved through the construction of the characters, settings and themes.
Through the construction of the characters the plots of both the play and the film are developed.
This is evidenced by discussing the similarities between the characters in the film and the play such
as, Patrick and Petruchio, Kat and Katerina and Bianca. The main protagonists... Show more content

One such similarity that can be seen is her name, as Bianca s name in the film was transferred
straight from the play when the adaptation was created. Other similarities include her suitors and
her personality underneath her innocence. In both the play and the film Bianca is portrayed as a
naive prize that must be won, however what makes her such a complex character is not her
innocence but what lies underneath. Throughout the whole film Bianca constantly surprises
everyone with deep insights such as, when discussing the difference between liking and loving
Bianca: You know, there s a difference between like and love
. I like my Skechers, but I love my
Prada backpack. Chastity: But I love my Skechers. Bianca: That s because you don t have a
Prada backpack. Even simply ideas like this show the hidden depth of the character. However,
when it comes to Bianca s sister Kat she, like everyone around her assumes that my sisters a
particularly hideous breed of looser and doesn t realise why Kat is the way she is. until a fight
with Kat about her mother s pearls takes an interesting turn towards Bianca s relationship with
Joey, when Kat tells Bianca the reason for her acting out of the norm is because an
uncomfortable encounter with Joey. Furthermore, in the play Bianca doesn t have as many
insights as such, however many quotes suggest that Bianca is by no means short of whits. One
such quote being, Katerina and Bianca s are arguing about who Bianca shall marry is it for him
you do envy me so? Nay, then you jest, and now I well perceive you have but jested with me all
this while. Additionally, many similarities can be seen in Bianca s relationship with Joey in the
film and with Hortensio and Gremio in the play. Some of these similarities include Joey, Hortensio
and Gremio s intensions concerning a relationship with Bianca as well as the

The Lakota Tribe Of The Great Plains Essay
The Lakota tribes environmental wisdom and spirituality grew to stabilize among years of
conservation and concern for the earth. All animals were respected like humans and the rivers and
trees were cared for because the nature was well alive like the humans that existed in it. The
Lakota tribe lives on the Northern Plains of North America and are often referred to as Sioux. The
Lakota tribe of the Great Plains is very much rooted to the earth and place a huge emphasis on it
being their home. In their culture the world was not savage, nor were the animals wild because on
earth all spirits resided in nature. They defined their culture and continue to strengthen their values
like kinship, courage, and wisdom in their community through rites of renewal/passage, dance, and
their style of clothes.
In the Lakota tribe people performed both the rite of passage and the rite of purification as a part
of their spiritual practice. A rite of passage marks one s stage of life into another and is often
what most people observe in their lives. Rites of passage include birthdays, graduations,
weddings, etc., basically any phase in one s life that gives that individual a new role in society. On
the other hand, the rite of purification was to purify one s mind, body and soul of its impurities. It
is a ritual performed to seek the benefits of better health and preventing corruptions spiritually and
mentally. An example of a rite of passage is the Vision Quest. The Vision Quest is a very

Al-Ghazali The Banking Concept Of Education
Al Ghazali, an Islamic philosopher, shared his thoughts on education in his work Manners to be
Observed by Teachers and Students. The writing was published in (insert date), and Ghazali
argues that education should be intertwined with religion. In his essay titled Manners , both
student and teacher were to follow a list of duties. Students were to follow the list not only to
obtain knowledge, but to know God. The role of a teacher was to lead students to the path of
righteousness. Manners put teachers in a position of power, in a similar way to what Freire was
arguing in The Banking Concept of Education. Al Ghazali put teachers in a position of superiority
to students. Students were expected to be submissive to their teachers and not take pride or exalt
himself... entrust him to the conduct of all his affairs (25). Al Ghazali s vocabulary throughout the
essay is derogatory towards the students. While reading the essay words such as duty (63) and
submit (25). Al Ghazali looks to God to run the classroom, explaining in the essay that both students
and teachers work for God. The ideology brainwashes students to forget their own thoughts and
opinions to meet the expectations of Ghazali s duties. A punishment is in place for those who veer

Fallacies in a commercial Essay
Romney Killed My Wife
In political races in the United States logical fallacies are a staple in political ads. The 2012
election was no exception to this convention, especially being true in an advertisement with ex steel
plant worker Joe Soptic, speaking in Obama affiliated Political Action Committee Priorities. The
advertisement included many logical fallacies to argue against the Romney campaign. Those
include post hoc reasoning, ad hominem, and slippery slope.
The advertisement consisted of just one man, Joe Soptic, an ex steel plant worker, of GST Steel,
speaking against Mitt Romney. He personally points blame on Romney for the death of his wife.

In addition there was a caption in the video short after the previous statement by Soptic, claiming
that Mitt Romney and Bain Capital made millions for themselves and then closed the plant. This is
implying that Romney and Bain Capital are greedy. This has no relation to the topic of Romney s
political views and is merely an attack on character. Furthermore the advertisement ends with Soptic
stating that he does not think that Mitt Romney is concerned about the well being of workers of the
plant.
The last piece of logical fallacy that is present in the advertisement of 2012 is slippery slope. This
is when it is asserted that one event will inevitably be followed another with question or argument.
Slippery slope is implied in this advertisement in the way that if Romney is in charge, he will shut
down businesses, which will disable people to receive health insurance, which will cause many
deaths. This is improbable in the way that one event does not necessarily cause the other and
predominantly, is highly unlikely.
Logical fallacies are common in the political races in the United States, whether they re in
advertisements or in a speech given by a candidate. During the presidential election of 2012,
logical fallacies seemed to be more

The Differences Of Racial Profiling And Iron Triangles
Imagine that you are going on a plane to some far exotic country. You get to the airport, but you
notice people staring at you and give you disgusted looks and even looks of fear, almost like you
re a monster. You are going through security you look to the left of you and you see a curtained
box, suddenly you get nervous. You know what happens in those boxes what if they pull you out
of the line and make you go in there. There is no one to help you, there is no one to help you stop
them if they do. You are completely helpless. This is what it felt like going to the airport when I
was 12. Racial profilingis meant to serve a good purpose but there are other more accurate ways of
getting the same result without discriminating against an entire group of people. Iron triangles
are meant to help the public effectively communicate and participate more in their government
but the drawback of this method is that sometimes the iron triangle will begin to only care about
its components and not the public it is meant to serve. In this essay, I will explain what
happened to Shoshanna and how she was racially profiled on a plane. Then I will compare how
racial profiling and iron triangles are alike. Lastly, I will explain how iron triangles have the
power to change or institute policies and how that power can be used to end racial profiling.
Shoshanna was a 36 year old American citizen. On September 11, 2011, she and two men who
were sitting beside her were forced out of the plane

The human in the Animal Farm are the initial leaders in the story while the pigs are the computers.
In the Animal Farm, the surrounding farmers: Mr. Pilkington and Mr. Fredrick viewed the animals
as a threat to their authority which corresponds to the scenario where the initial leader malfunctions
the computers to regain power. Additionally, the human and the pigs eventually unified and agreed
to recognize the existence of one another. Although trading was viewed a human like behaviour the
farm traded with the human to improve their economical wealth. Which is similar to the fact that
although the Communist party and the Nationalist party were opposed to each other, they reunified
under the 1992 consensus for economical purposes. The two opposite forces in Animal Farm,
Chinese History and the the story we created fought against each other for authority. Nevertheless,
they concluded in a mixed government system where ideologies from both systems were combined
into one.
Our group s reverse allegory comic features the computers as the new leaders of the society. We
chose the computers as an allegory for Communism due to the fact that technology, in many people
s opinion, is the new hope for human race to prevent or find a solution for our world s most critical
crises. Communism also provided hope in both China and the Soviet Union in 1966 and 1917

A male landowner has the right to overwork their servants or slaves and expect their wives to be

servants are bound to the landowner for a fixed period of time and slaves are their property.
Landowners are responsible for providing food, clothing and shelter for them, so it is only
naturally right that they can put them to work. There are also no working restrictions that prevent
them from overworking either the servants or slaves. People of color are also inferior races that
do not intellectually know what is wrong or right, so it is only fit that their decisions and rights are
controlled. Women are naturally born as the inferior sex as well. They are

contributions to law enforcement and policing but Robert Peel and August Vollmer are some of the

11.Police officers should be hired on a probationary basis.
12.Police records are necessary for the correct distribution of police strength.
All of these principles still play a huge role in modern police. Police departments in America try to
promote community policing and work hard to partner with other police departments to work
together to solves issues in the community. Sir Robert Peel tried hard to include all issues of the
time in his principles, but he never could have predicted the modern day issues of gangs, cartels
and all of the other violence that has come about since his time. Law enforcement has had to change
a lot over the years to accommodate all of the problems they must deal with that Peel could not

Vollmer once stated, The policeman s job is the highest calling in the world. The men who do that

Identity, Identity And Identity Construction
When it comes to understand the nature of identity, place is inseparable aspect from identity
construction. Similarly, human mobility is another integral aspect taking into account to the study
of identity in the age of globalisation. As society increasingly changes more fast and complex than
ever before, the relationship between mobility and identityseems to have been more accentuated
than the bond of place and identity.
Thus, in this essay, I will seek how identity is intertwined with place and mobility in the purpose of
finding a certain position between them. First, I will find how the bond of place and identity
influences on the construction of identity through some of narrative discourses. Secondly, I will
examine some of case studies on migrants experiences as the examples of identities which are
challenging place based identities in the context of human mobility. Then finally, after taking every
discussions which I have examined on this essay into consideration, I will reach a conclusion
toward the issue.
1. Place based identities in narrative discourses
For the last centuries, place has long been a major topic on the study of identity construction in that
it is integrally connected with a sense of belonging or home which is created in the birthplace of
human s life. Although it might be supposed that an increase of changes of place or residence has

The Major Causes Of The Russian Revolution Of 1917 And 1905
The Russian revolution of 1917 and 1905 remain to be very significant historical events. I say this
because revolutions are very rare events in history. The Russian revolutions were milestones in
Russias history, as these events changed the political system of the country. The change of political
governments was very meaningful as the autocracy caused a majority of the Russian population to
be oppressed. Through the revolution, the citizens of Russiawere able to change the government s
autocratic ways and enforce new socialist policies, using the teachings of Karl Marx. The poor
quality of life that the majority of Russian citizens experienced was ignored by Russia s autocratic
government. The poor working conditions, poor living conditions and the wage gap between the
nobles and peasants was also swept under the rug. With the additional loss to Japan in the Russo

“Mexico’s Balance-of-Payments Problem”
Mini Case Mexico s Balance of Payments Problem
In December of 1994 Mexico entered its second major financial crisis in as many decades,
requiring painful economic adjustment similar to the debt crisis of 1982.
After nearly a decade of stagnant economic activity and high inflation in Mexico, the Mexican
government liberalized the trade sector in 1985, adopted an economic stabilization plan at the end
of 1987, and gradually introduced market oriented institutions. Those reforms led to the resumption
of economic growth, which averaged 3.1 percent per year between 1989 and 1994.
In 1993 inflation was brought down to single digit levels for the first time in more than two

In late 1987, Mexico was facing 140% annual inflation. To solve this problem, government

Exchange rate was fixed and became the main anchor of the program starting from February 1988.
Between 1988 and 1994, exchange rates went through several adjustments. In 1989 a pre

Evolution of the DSM 5
It s no secret that psychology is an always evolving subject, with major research beginning in the
1800 s. Since then, categorization has been a priority in mental health. Overtime this type of
categorization became important to standardize, leading to the creation of the
Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders or DSM. The DSM continued to be updated,
publishing more current versions, even still today. Currently, there are five versions, but this won t

These categorizations led to the
APA creating the first DSM, which focused on diagnostics for clinical use.
Ten years after the initial release of the DSM, a second edition was created, DSM II in

look at several factors when diagnosing a patient. After the third, there were many more editions
to follow a revised manual, a fourth manual and a revised fourth manual. The DSM IV TR, or
revised fourth manual, was thought to have no substantial changes and seemed to cause
diagnosing a patient to be more difficult. The difficulty stemmed from the lack of information
regarding what normal and abnormal symptoms in a person was. This version also forced
clinicians to diagnose a person in several categories, making the ideal treatment harder to pinpoint.
Finally, in 2013, the DSM 5 was released after five long years of research and reclassification
occurred. Unlike the past version, the DSM 5 had many noticeable changes.

hopeful but skeptical ending perspective due to the uncertainty if Big Boy is truly safer away from
the South, whereas Big Two Hearted Riverconveys a positivistic ending for Nick Adams as a
Hemingway code hero his healing process. Big Boy, an overgrown black teenager that lands
himself in the crosshairs of racial prejudice after killing a white man, struggles through multiple
obstacles to escape the Deep South and head to the North. After having spent the night in the kiln
and fighting off a snake and a dog, Big Boy boards a truck headed for, presumably, Chicago.
However, Wright creates uncertainty for Big Boy s future even if he does reach the North, let alone
Chicago itself. Big Boy has no finances, no shelter, nor from the reader s understanding, extended
family outside of the South. At the end of the story, The truck sped over the asphalt mines, sped
northward, jolting him, shaking out of his bosom the crumbs of corn bread, making them dance
with the splinters and sawdust in the golden blades of sunshine (Wright 53). The crumbs of the corn
bread shaking out demonstrate the mental growth and emotional hardening that Big Boy obtained
from his life threatening situations the previous night but also as a symbol of shaking out the last

Aristotle Is A Well Renowned Philosopher That Lived And
Aristotle is a well renowned philosopher that lived and taught in Greece during the time of 350
B.C. He was a student of Plato, yet is famous for rejecting Plato s theory of forms. He was both a
prolific writer in addition to a polymath and expanded the knowledge of numerous areas of study.
He even classified a multitude of distinctions for different aspects of knowledge that are still in use
today such as mathematics and biology. Aristotle was the first to develop a formalized system of
logicwhich was based on the structure of an argument rather than its contents. Aristotle created
some 200 treatises of which only 31 survive in a manuscript format instead of how Aristotle would
lecture them to his students. He was well known for his... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Why are humans able to reason? It is because they have a rational soul. Then why do they have a
rational soul? It is because they are able to reason. Henceforth the argument is of circular logic. It
does however give us a classification for different categories of life which is important in Aristotle
s delvings into the sciences.
Aristotle lacked the technical and conceptual tools utilized by modern science in his endeavors to
explain why something is true instead of the statement that something it is true. Utilizing the
Aristotelian invention of syllogism, Aristotle s logic followed that if the premises for an
explanation of a phenomena is valid, as is the form, then the conclusion will be that of scientific
truth. While Aristotle erred in his findings in many of the various scientific realms, such as a
geocentric versus heliocentric solar system, his scientific application of syllogism gave way to
modern scientific empiricism which is the idea that an abstract argument must be supported by
factual evidence and for the theory to be judged by a tribunal of observation.
Given the numerous advances in technology and the human culture since 350 B.C. and Aristotle s
syllogistic view, it is possible that he could adapt to modern viewpoints by applying means of
demonstrations and scientific deduction in tandem with modern knowledge convey what modern
science currently holds as true. It is also important to know that science is ever changing,

Theme Of Satire In Gulliver s Travels
Satire in Gulliver s Travels
First published in 1726, Gulliver s Travels is a momentous piece of literature which defined the
satirical genre and empowered writers of following generations to assume the responsibility of
keeping the government in check and exposing corruption. The novel accomplices this through its
nuanced prose and wild exhibitions of imagery, subliminally mocking and satirizing facets of the
cultures he s introduced to. Exploring themes of corruption, religious division and hypocrisy, and
cultural progressivism, Gulliver s travels implements and employs various allusions and metaphors
as a means of pushing his agenda.

the most influential and notorious novels to ever be written. The critiques of society were felt like
a sting throughout the continent while his humorous tales warmed the spirits of many citizens. The
novel s striking satire helped define a generation and propel literature into a new mindset and

Digital Image And Its Effect On The Quality Of Image
Abstract: In image processing, noise reduction and restoration of image is expected to improve
the qualitative inspection of an image and the performance criteria of quantitative image analysis
techniques Digital image is inclined to a variety of noise which affects the quality of image. The
main purpose of de noising the image is to restore the detail of original image as much as possible.
The criteria of the noiseremoval problem depends on the noise type by which the image is
corrupting .In the field of reducing the image noise several type of linear and non linear filtering
techniques have been proposed . Different approaches for reduction of noise and image
enhancement have been considered, each of which has their own limitation and advantages.

and connection with nature, primarily a river. Through the use of his poems, Baca expresses his
hardship and struggles growing up in New Mexico while connecting his need to find spiritually in

Through personification, metaphors and symbolisms he s able to express himself eloquently.
The following lines from his short poem, I Have No Answers, symbolizes his connection with
nature and Christ. When people kneel reverently in church pews, when a million hands are
folding in prayers to the Lord...I pray to the halo lust of leaves, Christ...and everywhere I look, I
see the resurrection now He is this river water... (pg 61). Baca is trying to symbolize and connect
the idea that Christ is everywhere for him, he is not just in a church, he is also in nature, in the
river, in the leaves. The essence of Christ is all around and because he s found a spiritual
connection with nature he s able to experience this prosperity. In his short poem titled, Spring
Arrives, Baca is trying to symbolize the idea that if Christ is flowing through the river then he is
ready to allow Christ to enter his soul and receive forgiveness for his mistakes. Creator in the
form of a river flowing to the Gulf...breathe in me, fill my lungs, replenish my sight... (pg 9).
Throughout all of Baca s poems, the idea of accepting nature as a form of guidance is present
and it s a strong theme. Nature, is his savior and accepting it has allowed him to better himself and
find a way to block out all of his bad

Maslow Hierarchy Of Needs Analysis
Maslow s (1943, 1954) hierarchy of needs is a motivational theory in psychology comprising a five
tier model of human needs, often depicted as hierarchical levels within a pyramid.
Maslow stated that people are motivated to achieve certain needs and that some needs take
precedence over others. Our most basic need is for physical survival, and this will be the first
thing that motivates our behaviour. Once that level is fulfilled the next level up is what motivates
us, and so on. maslow s hierarchy of needs five stage pyramide
This five stage model can be divided into deficiency needs and growth needs. The first four levels
are often referred to as deficiency needs (D needs), and the top level is known as growth or being

Maslow posited that human needs are arranged in a hierarchy:
It is quite true that man lives by bread alone †when there is no bread. But what happens to
man’s desires when there is plenty of bread and when his belly is chronically filled?
At once other (and â€oehigherâ€) needs emerge and these, rather than physiological
hungers, dominate the organism. And when these in turn are satisfied, again new (and still
â€oehigherâ€) needs emerge and so on. This is what we mean by saying that the basic
human needs are organized into a hierarchy of relative prepotency (Maslow, 1943, p. 375).
The expanded hierarchy of needs:
It is important to note that Maslow s (1943, 1954) five stage model has been expanded to include
cognitive and aesthetic needs (Maslow, 1970a) and later transcendence needs (Maslow, 1970b).
Changes to the original five stage model are highlighted and include a seven stage model and a
eight stage model, both developed during the 1960 s and

Centralization Of The Political System In The Iliad
The characters in Homer s The Iliad appear to live in in a Democratic Monarchy in reference to
their political systems. Agamemnon is king of Mycenae and leads the Achaean army, but many
of their political as well as strategic decisions are made within a formal council. (Book 1, lines 302

per se, rather it is a mutual respect of the people to whom the Gods have given power. (Book 1
lines 307 316) When examining the centralization of the political system present in The Iliad, I saw
that amongst the individual armies, there is a clear structure of who is the leader and who answers
to whom. However, when the multiple armies join forces to battle the Trojans, while Agamemnon

but that the soldiers as well as himself will stay and fight. (Book 9, lines 31 39) After the men

may have given Agamemnon power, but he should listen to what his subjects have to say and act
on the wisdom that they share with him. (Book 9, lines 112 121) These passages led me to my
belief that, while the individuals are important in battle, (Book 4, lines 292 293) ultimately the
people as a whole are more important politically. For example, when the Achaeans are losing to the
Trojans and Agamemnon summons all of the warriors to assembly, Agamemnon and his heralds
inform them all individually. (Book 9, lines 9 13) On the other hand, while the people as a whole

The Funeral Of Julius Caesar
The Funeral Speeches in Julius Caesar Words have great power and astounding capability when
the wielder uses them to their true advantage. William Shakespeare is a revered writer of the
Renaissance Era, and his work continues to be used and influential today. In his play Julius
Caesar, two speakers use their ability with words to turn the opinion of their audience, ultimately
starting a war. Through analysing their tactics as well as the words themselves we can more
fully understanding why it ended as it did; more importantly, we can also understand speaking
styles, when to implement each, and how they impacted their citizens so thoroughly. These
speeches occurred right after Caesar s assassination. Brutus spoke first, then left. Marc Antony
gave a speech following his, with his own unique tactics. It was the combination of these two
speeches that resulted in the resolution of the play. As I have previously stated, Brutus was the
first to speak. He spun a beautiful tale, using logos as his primary form of persuasion. He said
things such as, Not that I loved Caesar less, but that I loved Rome more. () These statements
painted him to be the noblest of men. He wanted the townspeople to believe his was in the right,
and did it solely for their benefit. The reasons for the assassination were stated clearly and in a
mechanical sense, it seemed none could argue with his logic. He offered to commit suicide and a
citizen promptly shouted, Live, Brutus! live, live! (), demonstrating

The Ethical and Theological Implications of Human Cloning
Introduction
Advances in science and technology have often caused revolutionary changes in the way society
views the world. When computers were first invented, they were used to calculate ballistics tables;
today they perform a myriad of functions unimagined at their conception. Space travel changed the
way mankind viewed itself in terms of a larger context, the universe. In 1978, the first test tube

outside a mother s womb.

In this way, cloning has changed the potentials for reproduction; males could potentially not be
required in the creation of children. It is important to note, however, that cloning of a human has
yet to be accomplished. While it would be naive to say that it will never be done, so far this
problem of biotechnology has been left undone.
The Process of Cloning
Before any discussion about cloning can be started, it is necessary to explain, albeit in a simplified
version, the scientific process that cloning entails.* Every cell in any given organism contains
exactly the same genetic material or DNA. Each human DNA is composed of two pairs of twenty
three chromosomes. In the process of natural reproduction, when an egg and sperm are joined, they
fuse to form a single cell called a zygote that has a new genetic makeup the sperm and the egg each
contributing one set of chromosomes. Thus, the genetic material found in an embryo is a
combination of the DNA from the mother and the father.
When this initial new cell is formed, certain proteins give the signal that it is time for the zygote
to divide and produce exact replicas of itself. From the single cell stage, this division occurs in a
doubling manner so that in a matter of hours there are eight cells present. Until this eight cell stage
occurs, cells are all the same. After that point, however, different cells begin to

endothelium and associated connective tissue. They carry blood from the arterioles to the venules.
Transfer of nutrients and other vital substances between blood and tissue cells occurs at or near a
capillary. True capillaries receive blood flowing out of the small arterioles. There are three different
types found in the human body: continuous, fenestrated, and sinusoid. The differences in each
function has to do with the location in the body.
Continuous Capillaries: Has a continuous lining of endothelial cells. Found in the skeletal muscle,
lung, and many types of connective tissue. They contain small openings called intracellular clefts
between the adjacent endothelial cells. Found in areas of the body such as the central nervous
system, skeletal muscles, and skin.
Fenestrated Capillaries: Contains intracellular clefts and small holes called fenestra. These vessels
allow small molecules as well, as limited amounts of nutrients, to pass through their walls. Most
commonly found in the endocrine system.
Sinusoid Capillaries: Contains a large lumen and a more winding tortuous course. The basement
membrane is either absent or incomplete. Found in the liver, spleen, bone marrow, and portions of
the endocrine system. It permits migration of blood cells

Heartburn Remedies
Natural heartburn remedies are deemed as the best methods of treating heartburn and acid reflux for
good. Heartburn is that burning sensation one feels spreading across the chest coming up from the
pits of the stomach and often reaching the throat and leaving a sour, acidic taste. Heartburn occurs
normally after partaking of a huge meal and bending or lying down. These actions result in the acids
in the stomach getting pushed into the esophagus, thus the acidic taste. The burning sensation is
the result of the esophageal walls reacting to the acid.
Heartburn is experienced by everyone at a certain time, so it is a rather natural occurrence and not
necessarily a serious condition. Some people however are frequent heartburn sufferers and they ...

Too much reliance on these remedies also tends to cause side effects like diarrhea and constipation.
This is the reason why natural heartburn remedies are best preferred and recommended as long
term heartburn cures. Treating heartburn naturally minimizes the risk of unwanted side effects
which can potentially worsen the condition.
The Advantages ofNatural Heartburn Remedies
The foremost advantage of these remedies is of course the reduced risk of side effects. Since these
remedies make use of natural methods to cure the condition i.e. eating healthy, drinking the right
amount of fluids, working out properly, avoiding foods that cause heartburn and eating food types
that help with proper digestion, etc., these treatment methods are safe to follow and use in the long
term.
Another advantage to opting for natural heartburn remedies is improved overall well being.
Experts say that obesity contributes to the frequent occurrence of heartburn. Aside from this, being
overweight also makes a person more prone to other diseases like diabetes and high blood pressure.
Natural methods of treating heartburn and acid reflux can help you achieve a healthy body weight
and reduce the risk of acquiring other

We re All Becoming Poor, But We Can Do Something

We re all becoming poor, but we can do something
Did you know that about 4.8 million people in Canada live in poverty? It is not just the countries
in the East who you think are poor; many countries in Europe and North America have individuals
who live in poverty because of various factors affecting them. These may include low wages,
fewer benefits, housing shortage and of course, their lifestyle or way of living. Poverty can also
be tied to the government of that city or country and certain rules or laws set by the government
could affect these people. Although we are living in an era where we are making many
technological advances, poverty is still increasing. Poverty is increasing again because of
inequality, poor decisions made by some of political leaders, and by the members of our own
communities.
To understand how worse the situation of poverty has become in Canada, we have to look at
statistics that show how poverty has increased over the years. Poverty has been increasing as
residents struggle to put food on their tables. For example, in Canada, child poverty has
increased to from 12.8% to 15.1% from the mid 1990s, ( Canada Falling behind on Poverty,
Inequality, says Report. 1) and 15% of children in Canada currently live under poverty because
they have less access to necessities. It is not surprising that UNICEF has rated Canada 17th out of
the 29 wealthy countries in the world. ( Canada Falling behind

Security Analysis of Web based Conferencing Platforms versus Face to Face Meetings
Introduction Technologies are increasingly being relied on to streamline communication,
collaboration and also drastically reduce costs of operations. As travel costs have continued to
escalate, companies are increasingly relying on digital and Web based forms of communication.
One of the most rapidly growing continues to be the use of Web conferencing or
teleconferencing. It is estimated that nearly 15 million small and medium businesses in the U.S.
rely on Web conferencing on a daily basis to complete projects and build unified teams (Baez,
2012). There are nearly 25 million users of Web Conferencing solutions daily throughout the
world s top 100 corporations, as these worldwide enterprises look to unify the intelligence and
knowledge of their employees across departments, divisions and programs groups (Suduc, BГ®zoi,
Filip, 2009). Cisco has even taken Web Conferencing a step further and creating a telepresence
platform that allows individuals to communicate literally as if they were in person, speaking to
team rooms (Baez, 2012). While there have been many studies done on the relative merits of these
systems, the most telling are the Return on Investment (ROI) analyses completed, which
consistently show Web conferencing systems generate positive Return on Investment in two years
or less in the majority of instances (Suduc, BГ®zoi, Filip, 2009). With the economic factors so in

An Essay About Travelling
I try to get away as often as possible because travelling is the most awesome thing to do in this
world. Travel is a powerful tool for personality development. It can teach us a lot about other
countries and about ourselves. You can experience the happiest moments through your limited
travels. Travelling introduces us with several ups and downs of life.
If you are less fortunate to travel, you might feel little strange about what I am discussing. How can
travel help me know the place I already belong? Well we all take things for granted to a certain
limit, which includes things like electricity, transport, food, water and safety. Travelling to a
country where these basic things are unavailable will open your eyes.
If you visit places where people are struggling for basic necessities of life you will realize how
much you took things for granted. Comparing yourself with those people will ... Show more content

I wanted to learn a lot about that language but I was surprised, I learnt things about myself.
Travelling helps a lot to understand yourself better. We live in a busy routine life, which makes it
difficult to know about ourselves. It is necessary to take time in looking at yourself and understand
your strengths and weaknesses.
Once you step into a new environment you will be surprised to notice things about yourself, you
may find that you are more confident and open minded, or more extrovert or shy than you have
ever thought. In my case I have learnt that I am more impulsive and knowing this has helped me a
lot in developing my personality.
Traveling not only helps us in realizing our own problems but it also helps us to deal with
problems while travelling which helps in building our confidence level. It makes us try new
things that we don t usually do in our daily lives. It helps us to overcome our fears. Travelling
makes us happy and enjoy life for what it is and not makes us sad for what it is

This model is quite common on the internet with streaming music providers (Spotify, Deezer) but
also in video games with free to play games. Regarding Spotify the freemium model is composed of
three offers :
The first one completely free where users have the basic functions (listening to music on computer,
with advertisement)
The Unlimited offer where users no longer have the advertisement restriction but can only listen on
their computers : 4,99€/month
The premium offer where users have no restriction and can listen on every device (computer,
smartphone, tablet) without internet connexion needed (music is stocked in the cache of the device
and is available thanks to data synchronisation) : 9.99€/month
It should be noted that, in France and only in France, in the first offer the unlimited music (with
adds) is not completely unlimited. Indeed, six months after the registration on Spotify (the
registration is mandatory to listen to music) there is a time limitation, users will not be able to
listen more than 10 hours of music per month and can t listen a track more than 5 times. However it
s easy to bypass this restriction by creating another account with another e mail address. Thus, it is
not this time restriction that will particularly push the customer to upgrade their account.
Furthemore the upgrade from the first offer to the Unlimited or Premium offer entails an upgrade
of the sound quality from 160 kbit/s to 320 kbit/s. Again, it is not this specific

Christabel and Madeline from John Keats The Eve of St. Agnes have many striking similarities.
Throughout both poems, the two women are constantly referred to as pure, innocent, generally
good girls. They are praised by the other characters and by the narrators. However, both women
engage in behaviour that defies their descriptions. Occasionally, this behaviour even disrupts gender
roles, and the position of the girls in their respective texts in question. The topic of concern is with a

As Christabel is the carrier, she takes on the role of the man. Although she does not do it
intentionally, Christabel is already crossing some gender boundaries. Once she finally gets
Geraldine inside of her room, one of the first things that Christabel does is offer her some wine:
O weary lady, Geraldine,/I pray you, drink this cordial wine!/It is a wine of virtuous powers
(Coleridge 7). What are Christabel s intentions here? Is she simply being friendly, or is she
perhaps hoping that she can use the alcohol to manipulate her guest? Then, Christabel undresses,
sits down, And on her elbow did recline/To look at the lady Geraldine (Coleridge 8) as she
undresses. This interest in watching Geraldine undress seems quite uncharacteristic of Christabel,
and in fact, that is when the narrator promptly jumps in to shield Christabel s innocent eyes.
After a rather questionable evening, where it can be assumed that the two women did more than
just sleep, Christabel awakens and Grows sad and soft; the smooth thin lids/Close o er her eyes;
and tears she sheds (Coleridge 9 10). There are many different explanations for why she is crying.
Perhaps it is because she knows that she has sinned, which she admits Sure I have sinn d!
(Coleridge 11). These sins can include bringing Geraldine back into the

Bottled Water Analysis
In the most recent episode of Most Expensivest Shit, the show where the Grammy nominated
rapper 2 Chainz sets out to find the most outrageous luxury goods on the planet, he and Diplo
sampled bottled water, but not just any bottled water, one hundred thousand dollar bottled water.
He and Diplo met with America s only water sommelier, Martin Riese, who explained the
difference between the many types of water available for drinking. In the nearly five minute
video, Diplo and 2 Chainz are first taught the difference between bottled waters. While most
people think all water is the same, according to Riese, it is not. As the rainwater falls, it runs
through different areas picking up different minerals along the way. Therefore what is collected in
one area can be completely different than water collected somewhere else, giving it an entirely...

While Diplo thought the water tasted good, Riese stated that he could barely taste anything due to
its low TDS. Vichy Catalan, which is naturally carbonated, was the next water he offered the
artists, which according to 2 Chainz, tastes like Alka Seltzer. Diplo guessed that it was very
healthy due to the strong taste and Riese agreed, admitting that it not only is a healthy water, but is
also great after a night of alcohol over indulgence. The Vichy runs for about thirteen dollars a bottle.
The last bottle of water the boys tasted was the most expensive by far, costing one hundred
thousand dollars. Riese ensures though that you are not just buying the highly fruity tasting
mineral infused water, but you are also purchasing an experience. Aside from America s most
expensive water, Beverly Hills 9OH2O, you get a silver briefcase, four glasses, and a bottle of the
water which has a fourteen karat diamond cap. Riese will also fly it out to you wherever you are
and do a water tasting with you as

Technology And Its Effects On Society Essay
The world we live in is constantly changing and we often look back to see what have changed
and whether it has done so for the better or for the worse. We learned from our past that there are
several factors affecting the change we experience and some examples include natural, political,
societal, economic, and technological factors. Particularly the technological one as it can be
linked back to the others, and we can discover even more interdependencies when we try
dissecting it and classify the components into different types of technology. If we attempt to
illustrate the dependencies and interdependencies of all kinds of technology and its derivatives
and join them with lines, we might be even more confused than when we have started. People in
the past have relied very much on nature to sustain their livelihood; we made use of the
environment around us and began our agricultural and pastoral activities as well as hunting and
gathering. As time progresses, we came up with contraptions to aid our farming, rearing, and
hunting activities, successfully reducing the manpower needed and at the same time increasing
productivity. One example would be the evolution of the irrigation practices; from simple water
diversion technique to the timed sprinklers we have today. These sprinklers are not only used in
agriculture, but in golf courses, gardens and even in our backyards as well. It is interesting how
the product of an idea originally intended to assist in our livelihood can be

What Is The Mood Of The Movie Rashomon
The movie Rashomon by Akira Kurosawa is told through the perspectives of multiple characters.
Three guys are killing time by sharing their perspectives on a story while they wait for the rain to
stop. The movie depends on dialogue and detail in every scene which gives us information to
compare the different perspectives that is told by each character. Throughout the film, the audience
and the characters do not know who is telling the true story. Akira decided not to use dramatic irony
but instead he decided that we were not going to know the same things that the characters did not
know, the characters and the audience did not know who s story was true. In the movie Rashomon,
the lighting was not very bright, it was low which matched the mood of the entire scenes that was

While we was watching different perspectives of a specific story, another story was unfolding in
the larger picture which you really get to see more of it at the end of the film. The setting of

that was used by the director to show the social class that each character stood in. For example
the samurai and his wife would be the highest class out of all the characters as you can see in the
beginning of the film, when he is walking by her in the woods, they were wearing the best
clothes and he had better posture than the other men. The Bandits clothing did not look new, you
can also notice by the way he acts that he is not very civilized. The director uses a lot of close
ups through the entire film, which allows the viewer to see the face expression of each character.
The characters in this film act with a lot of laughing, crying and screaming, the director decided to
use a theatrical approach to show the importance of the

Fracking And The Natural Gas Production
Fracking isn t a word that most people are familiar with unless they are well informed or active in
local government or natural gas extraction. Hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, involves extracting
natural gas from shale formations underground (Collier, Galatas, Harrelson Stephens, 2008). During
the process known as fracking, millions of gallons of water are shot underground into shale
formations to help bring the natural gastrapped inside the formations to be released so that it can
surface and become available for extraction. This is the technique that is used for traditional
fracking methods. Although fracking increases the states natural gas production, it also carries
some negative side effects that are affecting the state and its people. When most people think of
Texasthey think of the booming oil industry that the state has. According to our textbook, Texas
accounts for almost one third of the country s natural gas production and holds almost almost a
quarter of the country s natural gas reserves. Texas has greatly invested in the recourses that are
found within the state which makes gives the state a huge economic advantage. When fracking is
used to help turn out even larger quantities of natural gas, the economic impact is huge. If the state
greatly invested in fracking sites and the use of both traditional and horizontal fracking, the
economic gain in the near future could be huge. The state could be turning out twice the amount of
natural gas as it is

Essay about The Flood of Noah and Gilgamesh
The Flood of Noah and Gilgamesh With the discovery of texts from ancient civilizations, many
people have come to believe that various texts are common to one another. Examples of these texts
are the creation stories from the Hebrews found in the Bible, The Hymn of Ra from the Egyptians,
and the Enuma Elish stories from the Babylonians. In addition to these stories are the flood stories.
These stories have caused many discussions among scholars involved with ancient civilizations.
The two main stories largely discussed are the Genesis and Gilgamesh flood stories. Although
different in regards to the details, the main plot is similar between the two stories from two
different civilizations. Because of this similarity, many... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once they are able to leave the ark, Noah and Utnapishtim prepare a sacrifice to their divine
being(s). When God smells the aroma from the sacrifice, he is pleased with the sacrifice and
blesses Noah. Similarly, when the gods in Gilgamesh smell the aroma, they also bless
Utnapishtim. After the flood, the Babylonian gods and the God of Noah both regret creating a
flood. Although the plots are similar, the details included in the stories have numerous
differences. To begin, when Noah receives warning about the flood and directions about how to
build and fill the ark, he receives the message directly from God. When Utnapishtim receives his
message, Ea indirectly sends it through a dream. Another difference in the story is the
instructions on how to build the ark. In the bible, God tells Noah to build the ark 450 feet long,
75 feet wide and 45 feet high (New International Version, Gen. 6:15). God continues to tell him to
make a roof and finish the ark to within 18 inches of the top (New International Version, Gen.
6:16a). Then put a door in the side of the ark and make lower, middle, and upper decks (New
International Version, Gen. 6:16b). In Gilgamesh, Utnapishtim builds his ark 155 feet high, and
the decks 175 feet wide. He also built a top deck and six lower decks (Matthews and Benjamin 26).

The Importance Of The Individualization Characteristics...
In 1888, Sir Francis Galton, a British anthropologist, began his observations of fingerprints while
studying the hereditary nature of the human body and they it could reveal about an individual. In
1892, after several years of study, Galton published the book Fingerprints. In his book, he
established the importance of the individualization characteristics and permanence of fingerprints.
Additionally, his book references the features by which fingerprints can be identified. These
characteristics, known in forensics as minutia, are still in use today. Moreover, some veterans of
the field still refer to them as Galton s details (Barnes, 2011). Furthermore, in his book, Galton
detailed a method of classification which he based on an alphabetical list created by three fingerprint
patterns: arch is represented by the letter A, loop is represented by the letter L, and a whorl is
represented by the letter W. In order to classify a set of fin¬gerprints using this alphabetic
enumeration system, each finger was labeled with the corresponding letter according to its friction
ridge pattern. The letters produced using this system, for the right hand s index, middle, and ring
fingers were grouped together, followed by the letters for the same fingers on the hand. After this
sequence of letters, the letters produced by this technique for the right thumb and right little finger
were added to the sequence, followed by the letters for the left thumb and left little finger (Hutchins,
2011).

Globalisation and Australian Automotive Industry
Globalisation and World Today globalization is essentially a synonym for global business.
Globalization is changing the world we live in at a very increasingly rapid pace (Rodrik., 1997).
Changes in technology, communication, and transportation are opening up borders and markets at
increasing rates. In any large city in any country, Japanese cars ply the streets, a mobile call can be
enough to buy equities from a stock exchange half a world away, local businesses could not
function without U.S. computers, and foreign multinationals have taken over large segments of
service industries. Impact of Globalisation, both theoretically and practically, can be observed in

  • 2. Project Blue Book Essay Project Blue Book in 1952 marked the first governmental effort to investigate the existence of UFOs. Hysteria among the public concerning UFO sightings prompted the creation of the project by the United States Air Force. The various sightings of unidentified aircraft in U.S. airspace concerned the government, as the timing of the sightings coincided with the societal panic induced by the Red Scare. Air Force investigators quickly grew irritated of pursuing nonsensical UFO civilian reports for a 15 year period. In 1966, the Air Force contracted a group of scientists to research all aspects related to UFOs in an effort expedite the conclusion of Project Blue Book. The committee of independent scientists led by Edward Condon published a report... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The government money loaned to the firm can be allocated to establishing counter defense mechanisms against UAVs, comprised of a detecting and neutralizing component. Radar systems are the detecting component of the system, capable of electronically detecting UAVs from long ranges. The radar s ability to spot potential threats from large distances allows preparation time to neutralize the threat. The most efficient countermeasure against UAVs is jamming the operator s connection to the device, and then intercepting the signal to overtake control of the drone. The dual component defense mechanism is ideal for the current technological landscape, as it readily identifies and disarms any potential ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. How Did The Industrial Revolution Dbq Since the beginning of man, the human race has gone through many changes throughout history. One of the most significant and critical changes was the Industrial Revolution of Great Britain. Characterized by the development of new manufacturing processes, the Industrial Revolution was a period between the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries that spurred extensive changes in almost every aspect of society. These changes stimulated a major transformation in the way of life and created a modern urban society based on industrial manufacturing and not agricultural production. The Industrial Revolutiondebuted in England because of changes in the textile industry and agriculture leading to a more stable economic platform, an ever increasing demand for coal, and international success in the trading market, resulting in the development and improvement of daily ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Initially, charcoal and wood were used a fuel source, but as those resources became scarce, coal became a necessity. As shown in Document 1, England was fortunate enough to have a readily available coal supply that other countries in Europe were not able to have. As England became industrialized, more coal was needed to fuel steam engines and furnaces. The development of factories and the improvement of the steam engine also increased the demand for coal. As a result, coal mines that were once mined at the surface, now got deeper and deeper, and there was too much water to safely get more coal. When the Newcomen engine was put into use at the coal mines, coal was put into the steam engine to pump more coal out. Similarly almost every other piece of technology in that time period used coal as the main fuel source so the need for coal skyrocketed. Document 4 explains how England had the natural conditions necessary to succeed such as coal, which is a major reason the Industrial Revolution started in England and not in any other ... This culture is often known for heavy drinking and friendly pubs. Irish whiskey such as Jameson is proudly consumed and exported. Alcohol is the biggest killer of young people in Ireland and many are impacted by their parents drinking. One person dies every seven hours due to alcohol in Ireland. Nine out of ten public order crimes in Ireland are alcohol related and one tenth of the health budget is spent on dealing with alcohol related harm. Studies conducted at universities in Ireland found that drinking behaviors were impacted by having fathers or older siblings with drinking problems. The environment the child grows up in can be highly influential in the child s attitudes toward alcohol and what they think is normal, and this applies in any culture. One of the most attractive parts of Irish culture is the local pub. The pub has always been known as a place to get together, meet friends, and begin romantic relationships. Tourists from all over the world flood to Dublin during Saint Patrick s Day to walk the famed O Connell Street just to involve themselves in the binge drinking tradition and pay a visit to the famed pubs so well known in Irish culture. The pub tradition is just as prominent in Scottish and English culture. Underage drinking is a normal occurrence and widely accepted in these cultures. Germany has a long history of ... • 5. California Prison System The California prison system was created in response to the increased amount of criminal activity that sparked during the Gold Rush years. Prior to the Gold Rush, California had prided itself on being a land of health, beauty, and opportunity (Bookspan, xviii). However, immigration and population growth surged, especially amongst foreign convicts and aliens , resulting in increased crime. At first, it was decided that punishment for small crimes would be a beating by whip while punishment for serious crimes, like robbery or murder, would be hanging (Kidport). After becoming a state in 1850, the California governor John McDougal reacted to this method of punishment by beginning what is known as the California PrisonSystem. The first prison within California was San Quentin, which began to receive inmates in 1854, next was Folsom State Prison in 1880, then California Correctional Institution in 1933, California Institution for Men in 1941, and California Institute for Women in 1952 as well as multiple California state prisons that have opened since then in cities such as San Diego, Sacramento, Chowchilla, Avenal, Corcoran, Susanville, Vacaville, Crescent City, and many more (California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation). The early California prison systems were very much influenced by the Auburn prison system, from the Auburn Correctional Facility in Auburn, New York. • 6. Prelude and The Wasteland by T.S. Elliot In our daily lives, we are too busy to do the things that we always want to do. So, we live lives of boring repetition. However, we have become adjusted to it so almost none of us complain. T.S. Eliot was born in St. Louis, Missouri and eventually moved to London, England. Extremely well educated, Eliot wrote many highly praised poems. For example, The Waste Landwas assembled out of dramatic vignettes based on Eliot s London life. Another poem, Preludes, talks about the daily lives of people where it starts off simple, but leads into something deeper than everyday life. Three reasons why I relate to Preludes by T.S. Eliot are evenings, mornings, and spiritually. In Preludes by T.S Eliot, a city is being described by all the things that happen in the evening. The smell of steaks is everywhere. When this poem was composed, steaks were inexpensive and were commonly eaten by members of the lower class. I can relate to this part of the poem because my family cooks steaks and my town calms down in the way that the city being described does. The poem then goes on to describe how a gusty shower wraps the grimy scraps of withered leaves about your feet and newspapers from vacant lots. The streetsare gross and unattractive and the street lights flicker on and off. Parts of Worland have grimy looking streets and houses like this city does. A lonely cab horse chugs along the darkened streets. I believe that part of the poem is telling us that life is empty at night and everything ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The plots follow a key idea where, Bianca will be allowed to become romantically entangled when Katerina does, through this key concept the cast encounters many issues and adventures. The productions share similar plots, this is achieved through the construction of the characters, settings and themes. Through the construction of the characters the plots of both the play and the film are developed. This is evidenced by discussing the similarities between the characters in the film and the play such as, Patrick and Petruchio, Kat and Katerina and Bianca. The main protagonists... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One such similarity that can be seen is her name, as Bianca s name in the film was transferred straight from the play when the adaptation was created. Other similarities include her suitors and her personality underneath her innocence. In both the play and the film Bianca is portrayed as a naive prize that must be won, however what makes her such a complex character is not her innocence but what lies underneath. Throughout the whole film Bianca constantly surprises everyone with deep insights such as, when discussing the difference between liking and loving Bianca: You know, there s a difference between like and love . I like my Skechers, but I love my Prada backpack. Chastity: But I love my Skechers. Bianca: That s because you don t have a Prada backpack. Even simply ideas like this show the hidden depth of the character. However, when it comes to Bianca s sister Kat she, like everyone around her assumes that my sisters a particularly hideous breed of looser and doesn t realise why Kat is the way she is. until a fight with Kat about her mother s pearls takes an interesting turn towards Bianca s relationship with Joey, when Kat tells Bianca the reason for her acting out of the norm is because an uncomfortable encounter with Joey. Furthermore, in the play Bianca doesn t have as many insights as such, however many quotes suggest that Bianca is by no means short of whits. One such quote being, Katerina and Bianca s are arguing about who Bianca shall marry is it for him you do envy me so? Nay, then you jest, and now I well perceive you have but jested with me all this while. All animals were respected like humans and the rivers and trees were cared for because the nature was well alive like the humans that existed in it. The Lakota tribe lives on the Northern Plains of North America and are often referred to as Sioux. The Lakota tribe of the Great Plains is very much rooted to the earth and place a huge emphasis on it being their home. In their culture the world was not savage, nor were the animals wild because on earth all spirits resided in nature. They defined their culture and continue to strengthen their values like kinship, courage, and wisdom in their community through rites of renewal/passage, dance, and their style of clothes. In the Lakota tribe people performed both the rite of passage and the rite of purification as a part of their spiritual practice. A rite of passage marks one s stage of life into another and is often what most people observe in their lives. Rites of passage include birthdays, graduations, weddings, etc., basically any phase in one s life that gives that individual a new role in society. On the other hand, the rite of purification was to purify one s mind, body and soul of its impurities. It is a ritual performed to seek the benefits of better health and preventing corruptions spiritually and mentally. An example of a rite of passage is the Vision Quest. The Vision Quest is a very ... The writing was published in (insert date), and Ghazali argues that education should be intertwined with religion. In his essay titled Manners , both student and teacher were to follow a list of duties. Students were to follow the list not only to obtain knowledge, but to know God. The role of a teacher was to lead students to the path of righteousness. Manners put teachers in a position of power, in a similar way to what Freire was arguing in The Banking Concept of Education. Al Ghazali put teachers in a position of superiority to students. Students were expected to be submissive to their teachers and not take pride or exalt himself... entrust him to the conduct of all his affairs (25). Al Ghazali s vocabulary throughout the essay is derogatory towards the students. While reading the essay words such as duty (63) and submit (25). The 2012 election was no exception to this convention, especially being true in an advertisement with ex steel plant worker Joe Soptic, speaking in Obama affiliated Political Action Committee Priorities. The advertisement included many logical fallacies to argue against the Romney campaign. Those include post hoc reasoning, ad hominem, and slippery slope. Furthermore the advertisement ends with Soptic stating that he does not think that Mitt Romney is concerned about the well being of workers of the plant. The last piece of logical fallacy that is present in the advertisement of 2012 is slippery slope. This is when it is asserted that one event will inevitably be followed another with question or argument. Slippery slope is implied in this advertisement in the way that if Romney is in charge, he will shut down businesses, which will disable people to receive health insurance, which will cause many deaths. This is improbable in the way that one event does not necessarily cause the other and predominantly, is highly unlikely. • 11. The Differences Of Racial Profiling And Iron Triangles Imagine that you are going on a plane to some far exotic country. You get to the airport, but you notice people staring at you and give you disgusted looks and even looks of fear, almost like you re a monster. You are going through security you look to the left of you and you see a curtained box, suddenly you get nervous. You know what happens in those boxes what if they pull you out of the line and make you go in there. There is no one to help you, there is no one to help you stop them if they do. You are completely helpless. This is what it felt like going to the airport when I was 12. Racial profilingis meant to serve a good purpose but there are other more accurate ways of getting the same result without discriminating against an entire group of people. Iron triangles are meant to help the public effectively communicate and participate more in their government but the drawback of this method is that sometimes the iron triangle will begin to only care about its components and not the public it is meant to serve. In this essay, I will explain what happened to Shoshanna and how she was racially profiled on a plane. Then I will compare how racial profiling and iron triangles are alike. Lastly, I will explain how iron triangles have the power to change or institute policies and how that power can be used to end racial profiling. Shoshanna was a 36 year old American citizen. On September 11, 2011, she and two men who were sitting beside her were forced out of the plane ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Additionally, the human and the pigs eventually unified and agreed to recognize the existence of one another. Similarly, human mobility is another integral aspect taking into account to the study of identity in the age of globalisation. As society increasingly changes more fast and complex than ever before, the relationship between mobility and identityseems to have been more accentuated than the bond of place and identity. The beginning: In late 1987, Mexico was facing 140% annual inflation. To solve this problem, government engaged in an aggressive stabilization program with wage freeze and administered prices. Exchange rate was fixed and became the main anchor of the program starting from February 1988. Between 1988 and 1994, exchange rates went through several adjustments. In 1989 a pre announced devaluation regime where nominal devaluations were set below inflation rate was followed. Then in 1991, they went on to a narrow exchange rate band with a sliding ceiling. Between1992 93, NAFTA agreement was in the center stage boosting investor confidence. During which peso was fairly stable, remaining in the lower half of the band. In the first 18 months of the program, inflation fell to less than 20 percent but then the pace of disinflation became very slow. It should also be mentioned that between1992 94 capital inflow to Mexico was 7 percent of GDP. After the third, there were many more editions to follow a revised manual, a fourth manual and a revised fourth manual. The DSM IV TR, or revised fourth manual, was thought to have no substantial changes and seemed to cause diagnosing a patient to be more difficult. The difficulty stemmed from the lack of information regarding what normal and abnormal symptoms in a person was. This version also forced clinicians to diagnose a person in several categories, making the ideal treatment harder to pinpoint. Finally, in 2013, the DSM 5 was released after five long years of research and reclassification occurred. Unlike the past version, the DSM 5 had many noticeable changes. ... • 21. Comparison Of The Big Boy And Big Two-Hearted River By... Nick Adams, a mentally and physically wounded individual, featured in Big Two Hearted River by Ernest Hemingway, written in 1925, experiences an emotional journey through the process of fishing. Whereas Big Boy, a black boy in Big Boy Leaves Home by Richard Wright and written only a decade later in 1936, endures the racial tensions between blacks and whites in the South and the struggles Big Boy encounters to ensure his survival. While some readers may claim that both short stories appear as though there is a resolution or ending, there is a larger scope to both of the stories endings in which the reader is not fully certain of the outcomes of Nick Adamsand Big Boy. Therefore the endings are suspended and leave the reader guessing. The suspended endings of both stories impress differentiating after lasting emotions on the reader as the motives for which each main character heads towards the cities diverge. Big Boy Leaves Home imparts a hopeful but skeptical ending perspective due to the uncertainty if Big Boy is truly safer away from the South, whereas Big Two Hearted Riverconveys a positivistic ending for Nick Adams as a Hemingway code hero his healing process. Big Boy, an overgrown black teenager that lands himself in the crosshairs of racial prejudice after killing a white man, struggles through multiple obstacles to escape the Deep South and head to the North. After having spent the night in the kiln and fighting off a snake and a dog, Big Boy boards a truck headed for, presumably, Chicago. However, Wright creates uncertainty for Big Boy s future even if he does reach the North, let alone Chicago itself. Big Boy has no finances, no shelter, nor from the reader s understanding, extended family outside of the South. At the end of the story, The truck sped over the asphalt mines, sped northward, jolting him, shaking out of his bosom the crumbs of corn bread, making them dance with the splinters and sawdust in the golden blades of sunshine (Wright 53). The crumbs of the corn bread shaking out demonstrate the mental growth and emotional hardening that Big Boy obtained from his life threatening situations the previous night but also as a symbol of shaking out the last of home and starting ... Aristotle lacked the technical and conceptual tools utilized by modern science in his endeavors to explain why something is true instead of the statement that something it is true. Utilizing the Aristotelian invention of syllogism, Aristotle s logic followed that if the premises for an explanation of a phenomena is valid, as is the form, then the conclusion will be that of scientific truth. While Aristotle erred in his findings in many of the various scientific realms, such as a geocentric versus heliocentric solar system, his scientific application of syllogism gave way to modern scientific empiricism which is the idea that an abstract argument must be supported by factual evidence and for the theory to be judged by a tribunal of observation. The Process of Cloning Before any discussion about cloning can be started, it is necessary to explain, albeit in a simplified version, the scientific process that cloning entails.* Every cell in any given organism contains exactly the same genetic material or DNA. Each human DNA is composed of two pairs of twenty three chromosomes. In the process of natural reproduction, when an egg and sperm are joined, they fuse to form a single cell called a zygote that has a new genetic makeup the sperm and the egg each contributing one set of chromosomes. Thus, the genetic material found in an embryo is a combination of the DNA from the mother and the father. When this initial new cell is formed, certain proteins give the signal that it is time for the zygote to divide and produce exact replicas of itself. From the single cell stage, this division occurs in a doubling manner so that in a matter of hours there are eight cells present. Until this eight cell stage occurs, cells are all the same. His intent was to expose the killing of innocent civilians as part of the Iraqi war and to inform citizens so that they could take action. He is now imprisoned and facing twenty two felony counts, all of which incriminate him as a traitor to the U.S. and that could result in him serving fifty two years behind bars. Manning was identified as the individual who leaked the horrifying Collateral Murder video, widely distributed and viewed on the Internet, in which several innocent Iraqis as well as two Reuters journalists are gunned down by a U.S. Apache helicopter. The trove of information leaked also contained The Iraq WarLogs and Afghan War Diary (Lucas). The Iraqi War Logs and the Afghan War Diary are a compilation of documents about the cover up of information pertaining to civilians tortured and killed by international forces (Karhula). The documents released include both classified and unclassified documents. The released information show evidence of clear war crimes and torture of which the U.S. had full knowledge (Madar 2). Manning s actions were not rewarded as those of a patriot whistleblower but treated as those of a war time spy or criminal. The twenty two charges, the most serious of which is aiding the enemy who was identified by the prosecution in his case as Al Qaeda (Marshall), could result in life in prison. The Military Whistleblowers Protection Act outlines protection against reprisals as a result of disclosing evidence of improper or illegal activities on the part of the federal government (Whitaker 2). Consequently, persons disclosing the information should be protected. Blood vessels start to develop during the embryonic stage and continue through the life span. There are more than 66,000 miles of vessels carrying blood through the body. Blood vessels consist of arteries, capillaries, and veins. The walls of the arteries and veins consist of three separate layers called the tunica externa (adventitia), tunica media, and the tunica intima. There are three different types found in the human body: continuous, fenestrated, and sinusoid. The differences in each function has to do with the location in the body. Continuous Capillaries: Has a continuous lining of endothelial cells. Found in the skeletal muscle, lung, and many types of connective tissue. They contain small openings called intracellular clefts between the adjacent endothelial cells. Found in areas of the body such as the central nervous system, skeletal muscles, and skin. Fenestrated Capillaries: Contains intracellular clefts and small holes called fenestra. These vessels allow small molecules as well, as limited amounts of nutrients, to pass through their walls. Heartburn is that burning sensation one feels spreading across the chest coming up from the pits of the stomach and often reaching the throat and leaving a sour, acidic taste. We re All Becoming Poor, But We Can Do Something Aishwarya Srinivas Ms. Lim English ENG3U1 05 October 13, 2015 We re all becoming poor, but we can do something Did you know that about 4.8 million people in Canada live in poverty? It is not just the countries in the East who you think are poor; many countries in Europe and North America have individuals who live in poverty because of various factors affecting them. These may include low wages, fewer benefits, housing shortage and of course, their lifestyle or way of living. Poverty can also be tied to the government of that city or country and certain rules or laws set by the government could affect these people. Although we are living in an era where we are making many technological advances, poverty is still increasing. Poverty is increasing again because of inequality, poor decisions made by some of political leaders, and by the members of our own communities. To understand how worse the situation of poverty has become in Canada, we have to look at statistics that show how poverty has increased over the years. Poverty has been increasing as residents struggle to put food on their tables. For example, in Canada, child poverty has increased to from 12.8% to 15.1% from the mid 1990s, ( Canada Falling behind on Poverty, Inequality, says Report. 1) and 15% of children in Canada currently live under poverty because they have less access to necessities. Security Analysis of Web based Conferencing Platforms versus Face to Face Meetings Introduction Technologies are increasingly being relied on to streamline communication, collaboration and also drastically reduce costs of operations. As travel costs have continued to escalate, companies are increasingly relying on digital and Web based forms of communication. One of the most rapidly growing continues to be the use of Web conferencing or teleconferencing. It is estimated that nearly 15 million small and medium businesses in the U.S. rely on Web conferencing on a daily basis to complete projects and build unified teams (Baez, 2012). There are nearly 25 million users of Web Conferencing solutions daily throughout the world s top 100 corporations, as these worldwide enterprises look to unify the intelligence and knowledge of their employees across departments, divisions and programs groups (Suduc, BГ®zoi, Filip, 2009). Cisco has even taken Web Conferencing a step further and creating a telepresence platform that allows individuals to communicate literally as if they were in person, speaking to team rooms (Baez, 2012). While there have been many studies done on the relative merits of these systems, the most telling are the Return on Investment (ROI) analyses completed, which consistently show Web conferencing systems generate positive Return on Investment in two years or less in the majority of instances (Suduc, BГ®zoi, Filip, 2009). • 49. Technology And Its Effects On Society Essay The world we live in is constantly changing and we often look back to see what have changed and whether it has done so for the better or for the worse. We learned from our past that there are several factors affecting the change we experience and some examples include natural, political, societal, economic, and technological factors. Particularly the technological one as it can be linked back to the others, and we can discover even more interdependencies when we try dissecting it and classify the components into different types of technology. If we attempt to illustrate the dependencies and interdependencies of all kinds of technology and its derivatives and join them with lines, we might be even more confused than when we have started. People in the past have relied very much on nature to sustain their livelihood; we made use of the environment around us and began our agricultural and pastoral activities as well as hunting and gathering. As time progresses, we came up with contraptions to aid our farming, rearing, and hunting activities, successfully reducing the manpower needed and at the same time increasing productivity. One example would be the evolution of the irrigation practices; from simple water diversion technique to the timed sprinklers we have today. These sprinklers are not only used in agriculture, but in golf courses, gardens and even in our backyards as well. It is interesting how the product of an idea originally intended to assist in our livelihood can be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 51. Fracking And The Natural Gas Production Fracking isn t a word that most people are familiar with unless they are well informed or active in local government or natural gas extraction. Hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, involves extracting natural gas from shale formations underground (Collier, Galatas, Harrelson Stephens, 2008). During the process known as fracking, millions of gallons of water are shot underground into shale formations to help bring the natural gastrapped inside the formations to be released so that it can surface and become available for extraction. This is the technique that is used for traditional fracking methods. Although fracking increases the states natural gas production, it also carries some negative side effects that are affecting the state and its people. When most people think of Texasthey think of the booming oil industry that the state has. According to our textbook, Texas accounts for almost one third of the country s natural gas production and holds almost almost a quarter of the country s natural gas reserves. Texas has greatly invested in the recourses that are found within the state which makes gives the state a huge economic advantage. When fracking is used to help turn out even larger quantities of natural gas, the economic impact is huge. If the state greatly invested in fracking sites and the use of both traditional and horizontal fracking, the economic gain in the near future could be huge. The state could be turning out twice the amount of natural gas as it is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

After the flood, the Babylonian gods and the God of Noah both regret creating a flood. Although the plots are similar, the details included in the stories have numerous differences. To begin, when Noah receives warning about the flood and directions about how to build and fill the ark, he receives the message directly from God. When Utnapishtim receives his message, Ea indirectly sends it through a dream. Another difference in the story is the instructions on how to build the ark. In 1888, Sir Francis Galton, a British anthropologist, began his observations of fingerprints while studying the hereditary nature of the human body and they it could reveal about an individual. In 1892, after several years of study, Galton published the book Fingerprints. In his book, he established the importance of the individualization characteristics and permanence of fingerprints. Additionally, his book references the features by which fingerprints can be identified. These characteristics, known in forensics as minutia, are still in use today. Moreover, some veterans of the field still refer to them as Galton s details (Barnes, 2011). Furthermore, in his book, Galton detailed a method of classification which he based on an alphabetical list created by three fingerprint patterns: arch is represented by the letter A, loop is represented by the letter L, and a whorl is represented by the letter W. In order to classify a set of fin¬gerprints using this alphabetic enumeration system, each finger was labeled with the corresponding letter according to its friction ridge pattern. The letters produced using this system, for the right hand s index, middle, and ring fingers were grouped together, followed by the letters for the same fingers on the hand.
