Great Smoky Mountain National Park Research Papers
If you like to seek out rare sights when you travel, make plans to visit the Great Smoky Mountain
National Park in mid June. For there, each year, you can take a nighttime hike and watch as
millions of fireflies put on a show you ll never forget. It isn t the masses of flickering flies that
begin to spark about 9:00 PM, although that is a pretty enough sight. What s unbelievable is that
these fireflies are synchronous they fire all together, as if on command. the show lasts about a
half hour, and it s something you ll never forget. The firefly show usually starts about June 8th
and continues for about ten days. You can check with the Smoky Mountain National Park for
dates each year, and get information about how to access the viewing trails. June is the only
time you can see this remarkable nature show. And the Smokies are one of only two places in
the world that synchronous fireflies are known to exist. The other colony of synchronous
fireflies is in Malaysia, in Southeast Asia. No one knows why the beetles (fireflies are a type of
beetle) are able to flash in sync or even why they do. Of the many species of fireflies in the park,
only the Photinus Carolinus is synchronous. The show, which begins in earnest about 9:30 PM, is
amazing. The fireflies start flashing at... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was only in the early 1990 s that one of the residents of the Elkmont community noticed the
evening show, which you can see only about two weeks of the year. She convinced a professor at
Georgia Southern University to come take a look, and the existence of the rare fireflies was
finally documented in 1994. You ll have to travel a long way to see the other synchronous firefly
colonies they exist along the rivers in Kampong Kuantan, Malaysia. No one knows why two
colonies of Photinus Carolinus exist on opposite sides of the earth. All I know is that in either

The Applications Of Electromagnetic Waves
Applications of Electromagnetic Waves Electromagnetism involves the overall performance of
electric charges in different media, including in vacuum and in specific matter. This conduct can
be precisely portrayed by the Lorentz Transformation equations and and Maxwell s conditions,
which were obtained from trials demonstrating how forces acting on charges rely on upon the
relative areas and movements of different charges in its vicinity. Extra significant laws of
physical sciences incorporate Newton s law, photon quantization, and the preservation relations
for charge, energy, control, as well as power. Electromagnetic processes underlie a large portion
of the electrical in electrical designing and are fundamental to a sound comprehension of that
area of physics. Ever since Maxwell derived his famous equations, the doors opened up for
significant research into the application of electromagnetic waves in every day life (Becker
Selden 20). The most significant conclusion of Maxwell s theory was that electric fields and
magnetic fields are interrelated and travel together as a wave. Initially even though it was
assumed that these electromagnetic waves, including light, needed an ether to travel in space, it
was proved subsequently that such an ether did not exist and that all EM waves travel with the
same speed of 300000km/sec (Feynman et al 14). The branch of electrical engineering has
conveyed four wonders sets of marvels that could each be viewed as genuine

Gordon Bethune and the complete transformation of Continental Airlines
Overview
When Gordon Bethune left his job at Boeing in February 1994 to accept the position of chief
operating officer (COO) of Continental Airlines, the company was struggling to survive. Even
though it was the fifth largest commercial airline in the United States, with revenues of nearly 6
billion dollars, the company had reported a net loss every year since 1985, and was ranked the last
among the top ten commercial airlines in the United States in terms of operational performance and
customer satisfaction Continental was the last among the ten largest airlines in the United States in

the organization itself was so dysfunctional it could not implement the best idea in the world.
To turn around what was happening in Continental, Bethune developed what later became known
as the Plan for Progress. It consisted of four parts a marketing plan to fly on more profitable routes,
a financial plan to achieve the company reach the black in 1995, a plan to improve product
offerings for customers Continental, and a staffing plan for transform the culture of the company.
The four parts should be implemented simultaneously and together.
The case highlights the details of the Plan for Progress and the series of administrative measures
that were implemented over the next six years to implement and run. Bethune s effort to achieve the
turning of the company became a classic.
In January 2001, Continental Airlines was named Airline of the Year by Air Transport World, a
leading magazine in the trade industry of aviation. The magazine cited the friendly culture for
employees of Continental, and reported that the company had the best working relationship
between the major transportation agencies with connections to several cities. Continental also
stated that he had a superior passenger service, especially when it came to business travelers.
In 2000 and 2001, Continental was named the second most admired airline in the United States by
Fortune magazine, followed by Southwest Airlines both years, and was named by the magazine as

Examples Of Louis Zamperini s Morality
Morality, the thing that helps us know right or wrong a thing that makes a human being whole.
Without it we aren t complete. We need morality to keep us inline and to know what s bad and
good. The morality of Louis Zamperini has been through wretched situations. As his morality was it
was strong during the war and when he crashed but only started to break down when he got home.
His moralitywas different in time of his life. As a kid his morality didn t manifest until high
school and kept through his Olympic carrier, but it was during the war when it was tested, and the
end of the war when it was broken. So how did Louis Zamperini s morality hold up to the end. As a

Scrooge Symbolism
Based on what I read Scrooge is a grumpy person with no feeling for the people around him.
Dickens doesn t like this and says it is a big no no is his world. Scrooge spends money on only
what he needs to get by. He doesn t get why Christmas is such a big deal, even though everyone
else is celebrating it with cheer. In fact, he hates the Christmascheer and expresses his feelings. He
despises poor people and say that they should go to jail. He does not have any joy, but he s not
depressed. Scrooge almost wants to damage people s day and does it often. The text says he is a
hard worker as it states he was a tight fisted hand at the grind stone, Scrooge! A squeezing,
wrenching, grasping, scraping, clutching, covetous, old sinner! He can also really stand the
elements, the cold., the hot, the rain, the snow, the... anything. Not only can he withstand the
elements, but based on the information from the text I inferred that he is the elements, resilient and
unforgiving.
The text explicitly states that the Spirit is the Ghost of Christmas Past (Scrooge s past), even the
spirit quotes I am the Ghost of Christmas Past in it conversation with Scrooge. First they went to
Scrooge s depressed and disheartened childhood. Immediately after seeing himself, he sobs with
bad memories. Scrooge says I wish ... but it s too late now , the spirit asks his what is the matter ,
Scrooge says, Nothing. There was a boy singing a Christmas Carol at my door last night. I should
like to have given him something that s all . This is Scrooge s first time thinking about doing
something favorable, after thinking about his childhood.
Then they go to another one of Scrooge s Christmas breaks spent at school, but in this instance,
his little sister comes to bring him home, she said that their dad finally let little Ebenezer come
home for good. Lastly Scrooge remembers the time he had partied one Christmas and for a few
bucks they made the whole neighborhood of kids happy. Scrooge s fiancee says that he cares too
much about money and not her so she breaks up with him. The ghost then disappears through the
floor. Scrooge wakes up and go to the other room to find lots food. He finds The Ghost of

The Sustainability Of Pratt Whitney Canada
In order to compete effectively in the current global economy, modern companies need to
successfully address three competitive challenges: technological, global and sustainability. Human
resource management practices play an important role in supporting companies to address these
competitive challenges. The focus of this paper is to analyze the current sustainability of Pratt
Whitney Canada, and to determine which human resource managementpractices enhance their
competitive advantage both presently and in the future. Pratt Whitney Canada (PWC) is an
aircraft engine manufacturer with global service operations and is a subsidiary of the American
company United Technologies Corporation (UTC). While many business segments utilize
PWC engines, the two primary sectors include civil and military aviation. With a workforce of
approximately 9,000 employees across seven Canadian plants, PWC has produced over 80,000
engines to date (PWC New Hire, 2014). The impact of PWC s corporate presence on Canada s
economy is reflected in the fact that it contributes, on average, over $2 billion per year to the
country s gross domestic product (PWC Economic Impact, 2014). PWC prides itself in being a
leader among leaders where, [m]ore than 10,000 aircraft operators around the globe depend on

African Americans Spread The Spirit Of Freedom
Throughout history, Americans have sought to spread the spirit of equality, which is believed to
be the realization of true freedom. Before establishing this freedom, every American had only
one question stuck in their head: What is freedom? Our country received it in the year of 1776
from the British through a series of difficulties and wars. African Americans defined it as an
escape from slavery, while immigrants defined it as their acceptance into a new society. More yet,
women of the women s suffrage defined their freedom as their recognition into society and for their
rights to be equal to that of every other man. These different perceptions of cultures/groups in
America tied together to form an American view of freedom. Freedom is... Show more content on

The American Identity, one that defines us all, would therefore be our courage and devotion
among all other emotions to stand up for our rights, independence, and our freedom. The War of
1812 signified a military conflict between the USA and the United Kingdom of Great Britain. It
s known for many things, but the most memorable event in this period was the writing of the
Star Spangled Banner by Francis Scott Key. His devotion to his country and inspiration to do
anything for freedom led him to write this song, which eventually became our national anthem.
He once said, It seemed as though mother earth had opened and was vomiting shot and shell in a
sheet of fire and brimstone. (Francis Scott Key) The feeling that came across Scott s being was
a realization of true freedom. Both sides of the war had suffered losses, but America gained an
ability to sail and trade freely. Freedom shed light once again. Probably the most re known civil
rights movement was the struggle for former slaves to attain freedom. Among these slaves was
one who not only freed herself, but also freed a numerous amount of other slaves that she
encountered. This woman is known to us all as Harriet Tubman, but was known by the slaves as a
saint who helped them get their freedom. As said by Richard in Black Boy, My life as a Negro in
America had led me to feel...that the problem of humanity was more important than bread, more
important than physical living itself; for I felt that without a common

Representation Of Cain In The Bible
In the Biblical story of Cain and Abel from the book Genesis, there is no doubt that Cain was the
central character. It was Cain, who got so angry, when God preferred Abel s gift over Cain s, it
was also him, who had a conversation with God about the role of sin in man s life and at the end,
it was him who killed his own brother, but on the other hand lived a long life full of children. This
story is mainly about Cain, so is Steinbeck s East of Eden. In the first generation of the Trask
family, Charles is considered as Cain representative. Charles is stronger, faster and more intelligent
than his brother Adam. When growing up, he won all the contests he had with his Adam, so when
he got bored with him, he found competition amongst others. At one time, when Adam and Charles

After Cyrus dies, when Adam comes back home and they first talk about their father, Adam says
that he didn t love their father and that he hated him. Charles starts crying and he explains to
Adam that Cyrus loved Adam more than anything in the world; also he mentions the gift they
gave their father and how he loved the puppy Adam gave him and at the end, it was Charles who

The Tv Show How I Met Your Mother Essay
In the TV show How I Met Your Mother, Robin Scherbatsky is a 30 year old woman that does
not portray the typical lady on most situational comedies. Being strong headed and loud
mouthed, Robin is continuously breaking gender roles by working her way up the business
world, not wanting to be a mom, and definitely not being weak or fragile. However, the problem
in society is that most women aren t as bold as Robin. Most women don t have the job security
or ability to be audacious to stand up to their boss or even just saying a powerful statement.
Society is faced with a question of can women be as successful as men in the workplace? Women
are unable to thrive in the workplace because they re expected by society to be submissive and
servile. Society is changing how women are raised, and not for the better. People often genderize
babies from the moment they are born. Right from birth, hospitals make it a point to identify the
genderof a baby by wrapping the newborn in either a blue blanket for a boy or a pink blanket for
a girl. This is because society assumes that just because someone is female, they would like the
color pink. Society is pushing parents to identify children based on gender early on, which also is
the beginning of how gender roles from. For example in the article Learning to be Gendered,
Penelope Eckert looks at the role that the gender of a baby has on the parents and how the parents
in return treat the child differently. In an experiment conducted in the

Folk Hero Funny Guy
Folk Hero Funny Guy won t go down in anyone s book as a great film. On the other hand, you
would be hard pressed to find someone to hate it. It is simply fine. One of those movies where
using the phrase a pretty good flick to describe it would be accurate. Folk Hero Funny Guy is a
light, amusing bromance road trip movie. The filmwas started on Kickstarter, and is the directorial
debut of actor Jeff Grace. It follows Paul (Alex Karpovsky), a failing stand up comedian in the
midst of a for lack of a better term quarter life crisis. Paul s friend Jason (Wyatt Russell), on the
other hand, is a successful folk rock musician who is looking for a change of pace by going on a
solo, acoustic tour to smaller, more intimate crowds. After a night of drinking and catching up,
Jason invites Paul to be the opening act on his new tour in order to get Paul out of the house and
out of his rut. After much convincing, Paul eventually accepts. Think sort of like if Father John
Misty went on tour, and his opening act was your sort of funny friend. What follows is your pretty

The concept itself is an interesting one, the ending is deserved (if wildly predictable), and in
between there is enough chemistry, good folk music, and comedy to keep you engaged. While

small town folk singer who the duo meet on the first night of the tour, and whom Jason drunkenly
invites to join them on the rest of the tour. Hagner brings her A game here, adding heart and
realism to a part which is essentially a plot device for Paul and Jason to have a falling out over.
The soundtrack is another strong point, featuring songs written by folk singer Adam Ezra, as well

John Stuart Mill Research Paper
Though John Stuart Mill went against a lot of the ideas of philosophers before him, and a lot of
people don t agree with his methodologies, he can easily be seen as one of the greatest british
philosophers of the nineteenth century due to his crucial work towards improving the wellbeing
of humans. Mill incorporated science in his works to find a middle ground in the moral rules which
he believed people should follow to have a good and happy life. In my paper I will be discussing
some of his work and his way of thinking. John Stuart Millwas an English philosopher, political
economist, and civil servant. He was born May 20, 1806; in London. Mill s father is well know

Mill later died in Avignon on May 8, 1873, (Matsin, 2008). John Stuart Mill has contributed to
many theories and methodologies in this paper I will discuss a few. The first being utilitarianism
which was produced in 1861, Mill was a true utilitarian. Utilitarianism says that the result of an act
is the real measure of whether it was good or bad. Mill s definition of utilitarianism is a theory
based on the principle that, actions are right in proportion as they tend to promote happiness,
wrongs as they tend to produce the reverse of happiness ( Utilitarianism , 2017 ). There are two
types of utilitarianism the first one deriving from Jeremy Bentham(1748 1832), and Bentham is
also a philosopher who Mill actually studied under. And Bentham s utilitarianism is act and act is

Helen Landsdowne Resor And The Woman s Copy Department
Helen Landsdowne Resor and the Woman s Copy Department decided to use and upgrade the
testimonial as a way of advertising. Distinguished women were interviewed and asked to endorse
the product. The first testimonial featured Alva Belmont, a wealthy society woman and feminist
(Peiss, 1998). The full page advertisement, ran in the leading women s magazines. Belmont refused
to allow her picture to run, concerned that it would diminish her prestige and reputation. Other
testimonials featured women such as Alice Roosevelt Longworth and Mary McConnell Borah,
daughters and wives of powerful men, visible in the world of politics. These ads intended to show
case distinguished women not only because they were beautiful, but because they had
accomplished something of significance to women. The campaign had been created to impart an
image of status and prestige to skin cream, and the advertisers increasingly used this tactic (Peiss,
1998). Even women who identified themselves as feminists found themselves caught in
contradictory impulses. They recognized the variations in women s experiences in modern society
and celebrated women s achievements. In these ads they maintained that beautifying and
achievement do not need to be mutually exclusive: caring for appearance could be seen as an
aspect of women s self expression and dignity. Even with a background in feminism and reform,
many women found themselves actively reinforcing conventional notions of gender difference
(Peiss, 1998). The

Did Thomas Jefferson Abandon His Ethics for the Lousiana...
Did Thomas Jefferson give up his deeply held political values in order to purchase the Louisiana
Territory from the French (P. 2)? This is the major question that has led to much debate within the
early history of America (P. 1). Some historians argue that Thomas Jefferson did, in fact, throw
away his commitment to states rights and constructionism by the large purchase of Louisiana for
the U.S. (P.1). On the other hand, some believe that President Jefferson supported his political
beliefs, the fortification of the republican government, with the Louisiana Purchase(P. 1).

abandon his political ethics by purchasing the Louisiana Territory (P. 14). Balleck states that the
Louisiana Purchase was the greatest achievement of Thomas Jefferson s presidency (P. 14). With
the addition of the new territory to the United States, President Jefferson secured the nation for
generations, if not centuries to come (P. 14). Jefferson was confident that purchasing the Louisiana
Territory would encourage the development of an upright Republican populace (P. 14).
Surprisingly, he had many reservations about his authority to purchase Louisiana, but that did not
stop him from laying the treaty before Congress (P. 19). He also knew that, by purchasing
Louisiana, the Federalists power might be lost, but he still pushed forward with the treaty (P. 19).
Although many historians criticize President Jefferson for giving up his most visible political
convictions by purchasing Louisiana, he knew that it would double the size of the United States
and ensure much land expansion for the country (P. 20). He strongly believed that the new territory
was essential to national security (P. 21). In President Jefferson s mind, purchasing Louisiana
secured the virtues of Republicanism in an Empire of Liberty (P. 22). The Louisiana

way like two parallel rivers in governance in aspects of life, in practice the two systems are often

social matters, while Taoism concerns itself with the search for meaning. They share common
beliefs about man, society, and the universe, although these notions were around long before either
philosophy. Confucianismand Daoism are the two most influential philosophies in China both

Free Choice In Macbeth
The lives of every single person are directly correlated to all of the choices they have made be it
big or small. In the play Macbeth , the fates of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth were largely caused
by the decisions which they had made earlier in the story. Furthermore, the choices of Mahatma
Gandhi had led him to his position as a leader of a people fighting for their independence.
Moreover, in the stories of the founders of the monster company Apple, their various decisions led
them to their triumph today. The play Macbeth by William Shakespeare largely toys with the
opposing notions of predestination and free choice. However, there seems to be some correlation
between the choices which Macbeth and Lady Macbeth have made and the consequences which
they were forced to face. One of the most pivotal decisions made was the one to believe the witches.

She wrote Lessons of Women to help young, soon to be married first century Chinese women to

At that time in china women literally had no rights. They had to cook, clean, take care of their

She wrote this in full concern for her daughters. Lessons of Women seems more calming than
controversial. I think Ban Zhao was not only inspired by her own daughters to write Lessons of
Women but also thought why not write this to all women who are in the same place as her daughters.
I think that Ban Zhao has her own style. Lessons of Women seemed very calm but was still
straight to the point. Ban Zhao seemed very personal with the passage in the beginning. She
showed concern for her daughters and overall women that were in the same situation and that is
why Lessons of Women can relate to those women. Even Ban Zhao s younger self helped inspire
the book too. Gossiping was used repeatedly, Let her love not gossip and silly laughter. was used

Description Of My Major Project Part 2 Essay
Career Episode 3
Introduction
CE 3.1
In this report I want to explain about my major project part 2 which was done during the tenure of
bachelor of Technology in Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
Chronology : 2012
Geographical location : India
Organization Name : College Name
Project Name : Full Wave Rectifier Circuit
Title of Position : Team Leader
Background
CE 3.2
In my previous project on developing of voltage multiplier, I had used the rectifier for enhancing
the voltage at the output but in the end, I had obtained lower current relatively. At that instant, I
was researching many rectifiers from half wave to full wave and with the help of my project guide;
I had finally made a call to develop a full wave rectifier circuit.
Abstract
CE 3.2.1
Right from the start of my academic career, I was interested in the area of rectification and how
the rectification is done in lower powered circuits and high powered circuits but most of times I
had used the capacitors over the load resistance for lowering the current ripples as they were
sufficient and rarely used the rectifiers in the high powered circuits. During lab sessions, when we
are required some smooth, steady or stable and uninterruptable DC power supply, I had used the
Full Wave Rectifier as Half Wave Rectifier only supports for one half of the input voltage. Initially,
started working with the sample or trail circuit involving the

Reflection Paper On Observation Of A Student
Over the past month I have been observing in Lebanon High school in a biology class. During my
time in this class I have observed a lot and have had a lot of great opportunities that have helped
open my eyes toward teaching, and the skills that are necessary to be successful in the field. While
there I had the opportunity to work with a student with learningdisabilities. During this interaction I
learned how to best work with those who have a learning disabilityand that it takes the ability to
think outside the box when trying to explain to the student what the task is so that they are able to
understand what they are being asked to do.
While observing the student with learning disabilities I observed a few interesting qualities that this
student had that stood out from the other students. One of the qualities that I observed was that he
was quiet. Unlike the rest of his class who would turn around and talk with the kids behind them, he
would just sit there and wait for further instructions. Another interesting observation that I made
was that my student would be interested in his work, but as time went on he began to loose
interest in his work and would need someone to remind him to stay on task which was one of his
accommodations. I found that his ability to become unmotivated was more prevalent when he was
taking notes with the class off the smart board compared to when the class was in a group
discussion and the teacher was asking open ended questions.

Pink Ribbon Project Analysis
There are many community assets available in the Summit County area for women who suffer
from cervical cancer one of which is The Pink Ribbon Project. The Pink Ribbon Project is
venture is funded by the Ohio Department of Health and the Federal Government Bureau of
Health Promotion and Risk Reduction. With this, women over the age of 40 who lack health
insurance and have an income at or below 200% of the federal poverty level qualify to receive
cervical cancerscreening service and breast exams at no cost to them. Women over the age of 50
without health insurance and are below the poverty line are eligible to receive free mammograms in
addition to a Pap smear and breast examination. This is important to the residents of Summit

This greatly affects the citizens in Summit and Cuyahoga counties because it prevents some
women from being screened for cervical cancer. Care centers like Planned Parenthood (that
receive funding) are then forced to decide how much of funding is spent on specific patients. If
there were more funding for cervical cancer screens, they could be provided at little or no cost to
all patients. The truth is Planned Parenthood and care centers like them are a necessary provider.
Just last year over 635,000 PAP and breast exams were performed by Planned Parenthood, from
those tests, 72,000 early diagnoses of cancer or abnormalities were found (Planned Parenthood
[PP], 2016). Planned Parenthood serves more than women, over 3,400 men had vasectomy
procedure performed at Planned Parenthood last year (PP, 2016). Funding for care providers like
Planned Parenthood comes from federal, and state levels. Last year Planned Parenthood received
553 million from government grants and reimbursements (PP, 2016). This sector of funding made
up 48% of Planned Parenthood s revenue. In the event funding were to drop or increase, it would

Christianity, Judaism, And Christianity
In my opinion if you would have asked me this one year ago if there was afterlife, I would of
told you no. Once upon a time I believe when you die you stay in the ground and your soul would
stay there as well. I couldn t imagine that there was a hell, heaven (paradise to some) or even a
purgatory. That all change a few month ago when I learn that some people and some religion might
believe what they want to. In this essay I have picked three religion Islam, Judaism, and Christianity
to explain what each of them have and to be able to show the similarity and difference among them
about the afterlife. Although each religion has its own goal, they however are similar in belief. I
have found that these three religion are known as the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No one know really know how the Heaven looks like only to be known as a wonderful and
beautiful place. There is also a place that most Christian Catholic believe if you aren t meant to be
sent to Hell or Heaven, there is a third place to be sent to call Purgatory. Purgatory is where most
Christians stay until called for to see if they deserve to be in the heaven. The Protestants do not
believe in purgatory. Now all we have to worry about is when we die, let hope we have no sin
and that for our past sins where wash away and those who did not serve God and have god in
their life, will be judged by their deeds. As for Judaism, there is no forever between good souls
and evil souls which in other religion such as Christianity and Islam. Judaism believe that the
devil can be in heaven. As for Judaism they believe that death is not the end of human life.
However, they are more focus on life now then think about the afterlife. They can believe
whatever they want to believe but the souls of the good people who have die will go to similar
heaven or to some they will be that reincarnated, or some will wait until the coming of the
messiah , where they will be able to relive. Unlike other Judaism Jews they believe that the evil
souls will be torture by demons of their own thoughts, or that evil souls will die and not to live ever

A Brief Note On The And The Russian Conflict
Novorossiya is a confederation that emerged during and because of the current Ukrainian
Conflict. Also known as New Russia or Union of People s Republics, it consists of the self
proclaimed Donetsk People s Republic and Luhansk People s Republic. It was founded on 24
May 2014 by the signing behind closed doors of the agreements between self appointed leaders of
the two People s Republics. Neither Donetsk People s Republic nor Luhansk People s Republic are
recognized as a sovereign states by any country or intergovernmental organizations and institutions.

Looking back, once you add all of those factors, it seems that the emergence of the crisis should
not have come as any type of surprise, but it did. Although now, with foresight, it is easy to say
that the rise of the crisis was predictable and inevitable, no one, at the time, expected events to
develop as they did.
To be able to fully understand the purpose and the actions of the Novorossiya terrorist groups, one
must first understand what caused the Ukrainian Conflict to erupt and the many developments that
happened thereafter.
Ukrainian Russian relationship and history
Historically, Russia and Ukraine have had a close and complex relationship, which is important to
understand before making any type of judgments on why the current Conflict evolved as it did.
Although, it is wrong to say that this relationship had always been a peaceful one, the countries
have constantly been closely intervened.
Their common history dates back to the Kievan Rus (882 1240), which is considered the
beginning of the Russian Nation but was geographically located on what is now Ukrainian land,

Anne Hutchinson s Words and Their Later Significance Essay
Anne Hutchinson s Words and Their Later Significance
Anne Hutchinson, on trial for apparently nothing more than leading religious discussions at her
house, is subjected to belittlement and unclear, if not unfounded, accusations in The Examination
of Mrs. Anne Hutchinson at the Court at Newton. The trial, which took place in 1637, set a
standard for the future treatment of women, and subsequently their speech and writing. Because of
the way the prosecution pigeonholes Hutchinson into admitting her guilt, the reverends (and thus
men) gain (or keep) power over women the power to control their women and to interpret contrived
meanings from their words.
From the start of the proceedings, it is clear that Hutchinson s only crime is ... Show more content

Though she has broken a commandment in the court s eyes, there are countless ways to dishonor
the parents without breaking the law. By bearing false witness against Hutchinson, Winthrop is
breaking a commandment (and in so doing, dishonoring his parents). Hutchinson is only asking for
a clear explanation of the charges against her, but is never given a satisfactory answer. During the
questioning, Hutchinson is quick with her answers, but her evident logic is not enough to keep the
court from modifying its arguments:
Mrs. H. I think I may. Do you think it not lawful for me to teach women and why do you call me
to teach the court? Gov. We do not call you to teach the court but to lay open yourself. Mrs. H. I
desire you that you would set me down a rule by which I may put them away that come unto me
and so have peace in so doing. Gov. You must shew your rule to receive them. Mrs. H. I have done
it. Gov. I deny it because I have brought more arguments than you have (315). The court calls for
Hutchinson to lay herself open, but she has clearly already done so. When Winthrop argues that his
argument has more weight than hers because of quantity, he has done nothing but condemn
himself. She has to say less to defend herself because she has done no wrong; the prosecution has
wrought more accusations because none have

They can smash these dog toys called kongs with their jaws. I can t even smash one by stepping

Types Of Decentralization
2.3.Types of Decentralization Decentralization belongs to many types, depending on the
characteristics, policy implications and condition for success. Political, administrative, fiscal and
market decentralization are the fundamental types of decentralization. There are different terms and
words for defining the types of decentralization and there may also have various ways to operate
them. However, the comprehensive approach is more vital than defining. It can be observed that
every country has its own type of functioning decentralization and each local department may have
unique combinations. 2.3.1.Political Decentralization Political decentralization involves the
transfer of decision making power and accountability to local levels. It often involves some form of
devolution the transfer of responsibilities to Local governments that have been granted significant
autonomy. In democratic Decentralization these local governments are accountable to local
populations through Elections and/or other means. In the context of international practice, the
political decentralization aims to give citizens or their elected representatives more power. It may

Male Gaze
A challenge that faces both Canadian cinema and women s cinema is the idea of the male gaze.
The film industry is a phallocentric institution that since its inception has always faced the
problem of objectifying women. As well Canada has faced similar problems long before the
existence of film in the form of the colonial gaze, with attempts from both Britain and France to
take what Canada had to offer and make it its own. In the film Away From Her (2006) Sarah
Polley recognizes this problem that the gaze has on both the identity of women and Canada in

She quotes the men seem curious, staring directly into my lens (curious at the camera or my gender)
and then suddenly the look changes and I feel danger as they start to push and shove... . On the

pleasure, their faces and gestures open to my inviting lens, allowing me to capture the sadness and

Comparing Camp Rock And High School Musical
With debates among several people concerning which movie was the better one, it s fair to say

Geothermal Energy from the Earth
Geothermal energy
Energy from the Earth What could be more natural or plentiful? The source of geothermal power is
the heat contained inside the Earth; heat so intense that it creates molten magma. There are a few
different types of geothermal energy that can be tapped. Some geothermal systems are formed when
hot magma near the surface (1,500 to 10,000 meters deep) directly heats groundwater. The heat
generated from these hot spots flows outward toward the surface, manifesting as volcanoes,
geysers, and hot springs . Naturally occurring hot water and steam can be tapped by energy
conversion technology to generate electricity or to produce hot water for direct use. Other
geothermal systems are formed even when no magma is nearby as magma heats rocks which in
turn heat deeply circulating groundwater. In order to maximize the energy gleaned from these so
called hot dry rocks, geothermal facilities will often fracture the hot rocks and pump water into and
from them in order to use the heated water to generate electricity.
The concentration of geothermal energy at any given location must be quite high in order to make
heat extraction feasible, and not all geothermal sites are created equally. Regions that have well
developed geothermal systems are located in geologically active areas. These regions have
continuous, concentrated heat flow to the surface. The western United States has the best
geothermal regions in the country, while Iceland , New Zealand , the Philippines ,

better vision for the audience to see the ring that Sherlock Jr gives to the girl. Thus, the audience
attentive the importance of the object to the main characters.
Further, he uses a close up of the ring to show excitement and anxiety of the scene. As I
mentioned, the close up of the scene is important because it s a demonstration of a better
perspective of the ring. The excitement in a way the girl wants to know what is inside the ring,
and the feeling of wearing it. The anxiety of being nervous at the same time.
In addition, the setting happens in the girl s house which is middle class. In my perspective, the
director chooses this setting to emphasize the events yet to come, and it is where the plot begins to
form. For example, its fashion, and the quality of the furniture made it seem to have the feeling of
a middle class house. Thus, the setting of the house presents the major events of the film overall.
Keaton uses the actor s facial expressions, framing to build the excitement and anxiety of the scene.
He uses acting to express their facial expressions to demonstrate emotions by showing excitement
and disappointment while giving a ring, and anxiety in both characters. The close up of the ring

the rate of the economy, or GDP. If unemployment rate drops from 9.1% to under 5%, the entire

Islamic Empire s Golden Age
During Islamic Empire s Golden Age, ideas of science and math developed and spread. In order
for this knowledge to grow, there had to be key factors to help it. The Muslims revived previous
works from past civilizations to assist in this progress. Muhammad was very encouraging for all
types of knowledge to grow. Three conditions that are important for the development of scientific
and mathematical ideas are a unified language, the standardization of paper, and the push for
learning. One condition needed for the spread of math and sciencein the .Islamic Empire was a
unified language in Arabic. This unification allowed scholars to be able to communicate with
another scholar from one end of the Islamic Empire to the other. Also, works that have been
written in Greek, Latin, ancient Egyptian, or Chinese in the past can be translated and used to
further knowledge. For example, Caliph al Mamun received permission from the Byzantine

Trans-Trans Dibenzalacetone Lab Report
After the crude product was collected by crystallization process, it was weighted to be 8.4756 g.
it was recrystallized and collected. The weight of pure product was obtained to be 5.772 g In
comparison to the theoretical yield of the experiment; it was calculated to be 65.99 % recover and
82% total yield. The melting point (MP) of the product was taken in order to identify the product.
2 trials were performed, and the results of both trials are the same, 102 105oC. The expected
product of this experiment was dibenzalacetone, which has 3 different isomers: cis cis, trans
trans, and cis trans, with different MPs and boiling point (BP). The true MP of Trans trans
dibenzalacetone isomer is 110 110oC (ref. 3). The true MP of cis cis dibenzalacetone isomer is
60oC (ref. 3). Cis cis dibenzalacetone doesn t have MP because its appearance is oil (ref.3). In,
comparison to all the isomers, the product s MP was closet to trans trans dibenzalacetone,
although the product MP was lower than the true MP of trans trans dibenzalacetone. There were
some possible reasons why the MP of the product was lower. The intermediate, benzalacetone with
the MP of 42oC (Ref. 2), could be existed in the product resulting in lower the MP of the product.
Another reason could be that the cis trans isomer of dibenzalacetone existed in the product. In order
to confirm which reason is the case, infrared spectrum (IR) (see attached... Show more content on

Through the analysis of IR spectrum, the product was confirmed to have both cis trans isomer
and trans trans isomer of dibenzalacetone in the product. Trans trans isomer was the major
product, because of the Experimental MP was closer to the trans trans isomer MP, 110 111 oC, than
cis trans isomer MP, 60oC. The % yield of the reaction was calculated to be 82% yield, with 65.99

Traffic Problems In Atlanta
Introduction
180 years ago, the city of Atlanta originated as the zero milepost for the Western and Atlantic
Railroad. People soon settled around the zero milepost and donned it the settlement Terminus. In
later years in was named Therville and then Marthasville before being officially named Atlanta on
December 29th, 1847. The city continued to grow and thrive until it was destroyed in 1865 in the
civil war by General Sherman during his famous March to the Sea (Wikipedia, 2016). After its
destruction, the city was slowly rebuilt over the following years to eventually become the massive
hub that it is today. Atlanta hosts the headquarters of a plethora of Fortune 500 companies

Many communities a part of metro Atlanta are against the expansion of public transportation since
they believe that crime rates increase in their communities. There is also a distorted economic view

vehicles or ride taxis instead of riding Marta. An additional hindrance of the progression of public
transportation is gerrymandering, manipulating boundaries in order maintain desired

The Complexity Of George And Minnie, By John Steinbeck
George and Lennie had an unheard of relationship throughout the novella. They were the exception
to the overall theme of loneliness that each of the other characters felt in some way.
Both characters were extremely loyal to each other , however the significance of Lennies actions
meant that George had no choice but to kill Lennie
Slim s character was highly valued in the novella, and the influence of his opinion is demonstrated
in many cases especially in the final section when helping the reader understand how George had no
choice but to kill lennie.
The reader is able to notice that his voice is the voice of rationalism throughout the book and that
the ranch workers are aware of this.
In instances such as the shooting of Candy s dog, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another example of this is when He crushes Curly s hand his fist lost in Lennies paw the reader
can understand that the lack of control over his strength and handling of a situation that came to the
killing of a person, meant that George had no choice but to kill Lennie.
Despite Lennie s limitations and lack of relations to other characters, it is obvious to the reader
how highly he values Georges opinion and trusts George to never to leave him.
When he kills the puppy he says maybe George won t care Now maybe George won t let me tend
no rabbits he expresses worry, which translates to show his yearning for Georges approval and is
relatable, allowing the reader to form an empathetic view on him.
This puts emphasis on how dependent he was on George.
When Curly fights with Lennie he only defends himself when George tells him to get him he can
then only stop when George says Leggo his hand Lennie. Leggo . He does not posses the ability to
have any control in the situation. When Curlys wife starts struggling, he is incapable of dealing
with it and kills her instead.
Even when he is unaware of Crookes playing with him demonstrates the inability of thinking for
himself. George wasn t able to save Lennie and with his lack of dependence meant that letting him
escape, left him not only a threat but also vulnerable to those seeking power.
Curly was an aggressive man who seeking vengeance on Lennie. Lennie

News Media Bias Essay
News media has a largely, overwhelming influence on Americans in this day and age. Over the
years, audiences have been exposed to various types of broadcast journalism, each with their own
forms of bias to generate attention towards various topics. The audience perceive bias in news
media program. An in depth analysis of bias on opinionated news compared to non opinionated
news is key to figuring out how the news mediamay be sensationalizing a problem. The apparent
goal of some American news media particularly cable news shows and talk radio is to stimulate a
problem.
According to one news source, What works in cable television news is not an objective analysis
of the day s events but hard nosed, unstinting advocacy of a specific point of view on a sizzling
hot topic . Although individuals may turn on the television to get information on current events
and issues, they are likely to get the station s detailed, bias, perspective on it instead. One
instance where this has occurred is on the Bill O Reilly Show, which airs on fox. It is claimed
that 97% of the stories mentioned on the show are a result of O Reilly s own opinions and beliefs.

With these form of news media, there is much drama and imagery that is capable of stirring ones
emotions. For example, television coverage of a natural disaster evokes a much stronger
emotional impression than print coverage. These impressions can remain with people for a long
time and influence their views on political issues. For many Americans, television is a primary
source of news, compared to others such as newspapers and radio. This was highly evident
between the 2000 and 2004 U.S. presidential campaigns, where the percentage of people reported
watching broadcast news dropped from 45 to 35%, whereas the percentage of people who watched
cable news increased from 34 to 38%

Aims and objectives
During the First and the Second World Wars Europehad to witness nationalist rivalries, which led
the continent to the catastrophe. For many, those wars meant the beginning of the end of the
European civilization. Others, a minority, drew from that the conclusion that the European
capability to overcome aggressive nationalism which caused those tragedies, is achievable by
adopting the idea of the united and peaceful continent as a common project.[6] That inspiration was
to be insured by a share of common, European distinctiveness. However, this process implies the
necessity to consider the impact of nationalism and the role of national states in a growing trend for
a united Europe. As Anthony D. Smith predicts:
The Europe of the future, if it should ever emerge, will be one of the mass identification and
loyalty to the European ideal, alongside or even in place of national allegiances and identities, such
that large numbers of the inhabitants of the European continent will not only consider themselves
to be first and foremost Europeans but will be prepared to make sacrifices for that ideal. [7]
We can assume that a common European identity should construct a parallel between the Union s
institutions and the citizens, making them feel that the economic and administrative regulations of
the Union are something that have to do with their rights and duties, with their identity. As the

Methods Of Recruitment Of Comfort Women
Methods of Recruitment There were various ways in which the Japanese Military recruited woman
for comfort stations. It is important to first understand that in no document of the very few found
on the recruitment of women to comfort stations was there any mention of women consenting to
either recruitment or what they were required to do once in the stations. This is important when
reflecting on the social situations in which victims encountered post war. The recruitment of

During the Second World War there were atrocities so profound, that current vocabulary was not
adequate to described them. With this the world was introduced to the terms genocide and

suffice? Though a small amount of women in comfort stations were professional prostitutes, the
majority of women who were recruited into these comfort stations did not have knowledge of what

of the women involved in these sex crimes as prostitutes merely attempts to preclude humanitarian
recognition of the violence committed. Prostitution generally involves three elements: (1) some

Physics, Love, and Richard Feynman Essay
Physics, Love, and Richard Feynman
Introduction
Physics. Love. These two words sum up the entities that Richard Feynman held most important
throughout his entire life. An extraordinary individual, Feynman was able to combine an incredible
mind with an incredible personality to achieve ends bordering on the magical. After Feynman s
death in 1988, physicist Hans Bethe, paraphrasing the mathematician Mark Kac, spoke of two
kinds of geniuses. He explained that the ordinary kind does great things but lets other scientists feel
that they could do the same if only they worked hard enough. The other kind performs magic. Bethe

Before Richard Phillips Feynman was born on May 11, 1918, his father had proclaimed, If it s a
boy, he ll be a scientist (Mehra 1994, p. 2). He was right, although it is interesting to note that
Feynman s sister Joan, nine years his junior, also has a Ph.D. in physics (Feynman 1988). But
while Melville Feynman might have been wrong about predicting the careers of his children
based on their sex, he certainly prepared the young ones well for the scientific occupation. In an
interview just before his death, Feynman was asked if he could name a great influence in his life.
He said, My father. Early in my life, he d tell me about the world, about nature and how interesting
it was (Brian 1995, p. 49). The elder Feynman took his son on long walks in the woods, read to him
from the Encyclopedia Britannica, and encouraged him to conduct experiments with household
materials. Throughout elementary school, Feynman tinkered with toys, clocks, radios, and
anything else he could secure for his laboratory, a workspace in the corner of his bedroom. Besides
influencing Feynman to think about the wonders of science from a young age, Melville taught his
son some non scientific lessons that would greatly impact Feynman s views on certain issues. For
example, Feynman learned from his father to show indifference to authority, and to devalue honors
and awards. Melville was in the uniform business, and knew that there was no difference between a
man with a uniform on and

Disadvantages Of CHO Cells
CHO (Chinese Hamster Ovary) cells are cell lines extracted from the ovary of the Chinese Hamster
and are exclusively used for commercial purposes in the production of recombinant therapeutic
proteins. Some proteins are to be synthesized using mammalian cells rather than the commonly used
microbial cells as the latter lacks the exact machinery to produce the complete protein or for safety
concerns. Among the mammalian cells, CHO cells continue to be the choice for the production of
several therapeutic proteins.
However there are certain disadvantages associated with CHO cells which include low productivity,
substrate product stability, slower growth rate, low cell density, etc. These cell linesconsume
nutrients continuously beyond stoichiometric needs. Thus, the mode of operation should be chosen
in such a way that they overcome the disadvantages of the CHO cell line.
The large scale production of therapeutic proteins in industries is done in suspension culture as the
adherent cell line poses a challenge in scaling up. Currently there are two dominant modes of
operation for producing therapeutic proteins based on mammalian cell lines (Hu and Aunins, 1997)
in industrial scale:

finished, the culture is harvested and the product is sent to downstream processing. The nutritional
environment can be maintained approximately constant during the course of the batch. Fed batch
culture is superior to conventional batch culture because concentrations of nutrients can be

Deadly Force Misconceptions
On common misconception that many in the public have is that deadly force always means
excessive force (Miller, 2015). In reality, necessary force is the amount of force required to
control a given situation so as to preserve the life and maintain the safety of police officers or
vulnerable citizens at the scene excessive force is any use of force beyond that required for
safety and control (Miller, 2015, par. 2). Is this misconception, lawyers searching out family
members, valid reasons, or something else why so many lawsuits are being filed after policedeadly
force encounters. No one will probably ever know the true reason. I will give two examples of
deadly force from the Knoxville Police Department, my agency for the last 19 years, and show
that there is no known why so many are filed. When I was a Patrol Sergeant in October of 2006,
my officers were in a vehicle pursuit of a carjacking suspect, who had pistol whipped the victim.
By policy, we only had two cars involved in the pursuit. About halfway into the pursuit, the suspect

a lawyer hunted this relative down to make some money. Hopefully this will not happen again as
last year the United States Supreme Court gave broader immunity to police in deadly force issues
(Savage, 2015). Police officers cannot let the fear of being sued keep them from doing their jobs. If

An Explication of Edward Mayes University of Iowa, 1976 Take a minute to imagine Men looking
like they had been/attacked repeatedly by a succession /of wild animals, never/ ending blasted field

grotesque images Edward Mayes describes to readers in his poem, University of Iowa Hospital,

might be about. University of Iowa Hospital, 1976 describes what an extreme version of what I

By using abstract words to describe these long suffering patients, Mayes forces dramatic images
into the reader s mind. While reading the book The Discovery of Poetry by Frances Mayes, I
learned a lot about figurative imagery. Figurative imagery is used throughout Edward Mayes
poem to make connections between two ideas we typically would not associate with one
another. A concrete example of figurative imagery in Mayes poem is found in the line that reads,
Men looking like they had been/attacked repeatedly by a succession /of wild animals. I know
that these patients most likely had not been attacked by wild animals over and over again, but
when the speaker plants these images in a reader s mind, the suffering that these patients have
endured become more realistic to the reader. Sometimes using figurative imagery is much more
effective than using a literal image. Mayes wants readers to know how ill some of the patients
are. He goes on by describing the 200 miles of scars of a patient and how a boy who [had] shot
his face off. Mayes figurative images make a stronger point because they are so blunt. He doesn t
seem to beat around the bush; he tells every detail exactly how the speaker saw it. This poem
would not give readers the same powerful emotions without the intense imagery and literary tropes
Mayes utilizes. Toward the end of the poem, the speaker

Stalin s Propaganda Essay
Stalin used propaganda during his rise to power and throughout his reign in power. Propaganda
is information, ideas, or rumors deliberately spread widely to help or harm a person, group,
movement, institution, or nation. It is solely used in hopes to achieve a more positive and
willing working class, through posters, information and street speeches, Stalin eventually and
skillfully over his people. Josef Stalin used propaganda as a tool to brainwash the Russian people
to think he was a man of character, integrity and power. People of different ages/ranges of age

He was given many titles, such as Father of Nations , Coryphaeus of Science , Brilliant Genius of
Humanity , Great Architect of Communism , and Gardener of Human Happiness . Stalin s name
was even included in the Russian National Anthem. (Kral) All of these aspects led to complete
control of the public and the clouding of their judgment. The public was brainwashed by Stalin s
manipulative powers every day of their lives. Adults were told about the significance of Stalin, and
they passed this knowledge onto their children. This is also known as word of mouth; parents
taught their children that Stalin was the wisest man of the age; teachers told their students that
Stalin was the wisest man of the age, and the news told their listeners that Stalin was the wisest
man of the age. Stalin used 7 main ways to spread his advertisements: posters, art, literature, film,
news, education, and youth groups. (Kral) Adults absorbed most of this propaganda, since it was in
the news, on posters in the streets and in films, Stalin did not have to focus too much on the older
generations. However, he did focus on the youth and children of the era, because they were the next
generation of businessmen and military men. In the youth groups the children were instructed to

For there, each year, you can take a nighttime hike and watch as millions of fireflies put on a show you ll never forget. It isn t the masses of flickering flies that begin to spark about 9:00 PM, although that is a pretty enough sight. What s unbelievable is that these fireflies are synchronous they fire all together, as if on command. the show lasts about a half hour, and it s something you ll never forget. The firefly show usually starts about June 8th and continues for about ten days. You can check with the Smoky Mountain National Park for dates each year, and get information about how to access the viewing trails. June is the only time you can see this remarkable nature show. And the Smokies are one of only two places in the world that synchronous fireflies are known to exist. The other colony of synchronous fireflies is in Malaysia, in Southeast Asia. No one knows why the beetles (fireflies are a type of beetle) are able to flash in sync or even why they do. Of the many species of fireflies in the park, only the Photinus Carolinus is synchronous. • 3. The Applications Of Electromagnetic Waves Applications of Electromagnetic Waves Electromagnetism involves the overall performance of electric charges in different media, including in vacuum and in specific matter. This conduct can be precisely portrayed by the Lorentz Transformation equations and and Maxwell s conditions, which were obtained from trials demonstrating how forces acting on charges rely on upon the relative areas and movements of different charges in its vicinity. Extra significant laws of physical sciences incorporate Newton s law, photon quantization, and the preservation relations for charge, energy, control, as well as power. Electromagnetic processes underlie a large portion of the electrical in electrical designing and are fundamental to a sound comprehension of that area of physics. Ever since Maxwell derived his famous equations, the doors opened up for significant research into the application of electromagnetic waves in every day life (Becker Selden 20). The most significant conclusion of Maxwell s theory was that electric fields and magnetic fields are interrelated and travel together as a wave. Initially even though it was assumed that these electromagnetic waves, including light, needed an ether to travel in space, it was proved subsequently that such an ether did not exist and that all EM waves travel with the same speed of 300000km/sec (Feynman et al 14). The branch of electrical engineering has conveyed four wonders sets of marvels that could each be viewed as genuine ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Scrooge spends money on only what he needs to get by. He doesn t get why Christmas is such a big deal, even though everyone else is celebrating it with cheer. In fact, he hates the Christmascheer and expresses his feelings. He despises poor people and say that they should go to jail. He does not have any joy, but he s not depressed. Scrooge almost wants to damage people s day and does it often. The text says he is a hard worker as it states he was a tight fisted hand at the grind stone, Scrooge! A squeezing, wrenching, grasping, scraping, clutching, covetous, old sinner! He can also really stand the elements, the cold., the hot, the rain, the snow, the... anything. Not only can he withstand the elements, but based on the information from the text I inferred that he is the elements, resilient and unforgiving. The text explicitly states that the Spirit is the Ghost of Christmas Past (Scrooge s past), even the spirit quotes I am the Ghost of Christmas Past in it conversation with Scrooge. First they went to Scrooge s depressed and disheartened childhood. Immediately after seeing himself, he sobs with bad memories. Scrooge says I wish ... but it s too late now , the spirit asks his what is the matter , Scrooge says, Nothing. There was a boy singing a Christmas Carol at my door last night. Then they go to another one of Scrooge s Christmas breaks spent at school, but in this instance, his little sister comes to bring him home, she said that their dad finally let little Ebenezer come home for good. Lastly Scrooge remembers the time he had partied one Christmas and for a few bucks they made the whole neighborhood of kids happy. The Sustainability Of Pratt Whitney Canada In order to compete effectively in the current global economy, modern companies need to successfully address three competitive challenges: technological, global and sustainability. Human resource management practices play an important role in supporting companies to address these competitive challenges. Before establishing this freedom, every American had only one question stuck in their head: What is freedom? Our country received it in the year of 1776 from the British through a series of difficulties and wars. African Americans defined it as an escape from slavery, while immigrants defined it as their acceptance into a new society. More yet, women of the women s suffrage defined their freedom as their recognition into society and for their rights to be equal to that of every other man. The American Identity, one that defines us all, would therefore be our courage and devotion among all other emotions to stand up for our rights, independence, and our freedom. The War of 1812 signified a military conflict between the USA and the United Kingdom of Great Britain. It s known for many things, but the most memorable event in this period was the writing of the Star Spangled Banner by Francis Scott Key. His devotion to his country and inspiration to do anything for freedom led him to write this song, which eventually became our national anthem. He once said, It seemed as though mother earth had opened and was vomiting shot and shell in a sheet of fire and brimstone. (Francis Scott Key) The feeling that came across Scott s being was a realization of true freedom. Both sides of the war had suffered losses, but America gained an ability to sail and trade freely. Freedom shed light once again. Probably the most re known civil rights movement was the struggle for former slaves to attain freedom. Among these slaves was one who not only freed herself, but also freed a numerous amount of other slaves that she encountered. This woman is known to us all as Harriet Tubman, but was known by the slaves as a saint who helped them get their freedom. Being strong headed and loud mouthed, Robin is continuously breaking gender roles by working her way up the business world, not wanting to be a mom, and definitely not being weak or fragile. However, the problem in society is that most women aren t as bold as Robin. Most women don t have the job security or ability to be audacious to stand up to their boss or even just saying a powerful statement. Society is faced with a question of can women be as successful as men in the workplace? Women are unable to thrive in the workplace because they re expected by society to be submissive and servile. Society is changing how women are raised, and not for the better. People often genderize babies from the moment they are born. Right from birth, hospitals make it a point to identify the genderof a baby by wrapping the newborn in either a blue blanket for a boy or a pink blanket for a girl. This is because society assumes that just because someone is female, they would like the color pink. Society is pushing parents to identify children based on gender early on, which also is the beginning of how gender roles from. These ads intended to show case distinguished women not only because they were beautiful, but because they had accomplished something of significance to women. The campaign had been created to impart an image of status and prestige to skin cream, and the advertisers increasingly used this tactic (Peiss, 1998). Even women who identified themselves as feminists found themselves caught in contradictory impulses. They recognized the variations in women s experiences in modern society and celebrated women s achievements. In these ads they maintained that beautifying and achievement do not need to be mutually exclusive: caring for appearance could be seen as an aspect of women s self expression and dignity. With the addition of the new territory to the United States, President Jefferson secured the nation for generations, if not centuries to come (P. 14). Jefferson was confident that purchasing the Louisiana Territory would encourage the development of an upright Republican populace (P. 14). Surprisingly, he had many reservations about his authority to purchase Louisiana, but that did not stop him from laying the treaty before Congress (P. 19). He also knew that, by purchasing Louisiana, the Federalists power might be lost, but he still pushed forward with the treaty (P. 19). In the play Macbeth , the fates of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth were largely caused by the decisions which they had made earlier in the story. Furthermore, the choices of Mahatma Gandhi had led him to his position as a leader of a people fighting for their independence. Moreover, in the stories of the founders of the monster company Apple, their various decisions led them to their triumph today. The play Macbeth by William Shakespeare largely toys with the opposing notions of predestination and free choice. However, there seems to be some correlation between the choices which Macbeth and Lady Macbeth have made and the consequences which they were forced to face. Chronology : 2012 Geographical location : India Organization Name : College Name Project Name : Full Wave Rectifier Circuit Title of Position : Team Leader Background CE 3.2 In my previous project on developing of voltage multiplier, I had used the rectifier for enhancing the voltage at the output but in the end, I had obtained lower current relatively. At that instant, I was researching many rectifiers from half wave to full wave and with the help of my project guide; I had finally made a call to develop a full wave rectifier circuit. Abstract CE 3.2.1 Right from the start of my academic career, I was interested in the area of rectification and how the rectification is done in lower powered circuits and high powered circuits but most of times I had used the capacitors over the load resistance for lowering the current ripples as they were sufficient and rarely used the rectifiers in the high powered circuits. During lab sessions, when we are required some smooth, steady or stable and uninterruptable DC power supply, I had used the Full Wave Rectifier as Half Wave Rectifier only supports for one half of the input voltage. During my time in this class I have observed a lot and have had a lot of great opportunities that have helped open my eyes toward teaching, and the skills that are necessary to be successful in the field. While there I had the opportunity to work with a student with learningdisabilities. During this interaction I learned how to best work with those who have a learning disabilityand that it takes the ability to think outside the box when trying to explain to the student what the task is so that they are able to understand what they are being asked to do. While observing the student with learning disabilities I observed a few interesting qualities that this student had that stood out from the other students. One of the qualities that I observed was that he was quiet. Unlike the rest of his class who would turn around and talk with the kids behind them, he would just sit there and wait for further instructions. Another interesting observation that I made was that my student would be interested in his work, but as time went on he began to loose interest in his work and would need someone to remind him to stay on task which was one of his accommodations. I found that his ability to become unmotivated was more prevalent when he was taking notes with the class off the smart board compared to when the class was in a group discussion and the teacher was asking open ended questions. The trial, which took place in 1637, set a standard for the future treatment of women, and subsequently their speech and writing. By bearing false witness against Hutchinson, Winthrop is breaking a commandment (and in so doing, dishonoring his parents). During the questioning, Hutchinson is quick with her answers, but her evident logic is not enough to keep the court from modifying its arguments: Mrs. H. I think I may. • 33. Geothermal Energy from the Earth Geothermal energy Energy from the Earth What could be more natural or plentiful? The source of geothermal power is the heat contained inside the Earth; heat so intense that it creates molten magma. There are a few different types of geothermal energy that can be tapped. Some geothermal systems are formed when hot magma near the surface (1,500 to 10,000 meters deep) directly heats groundwater. The heat generated from these hot spots flows outward toward the surface, manifesting as volcanoes, geysers, and hot springs . Naturally occurring hot water and steam can be tapped by energy conversion technology to generate electricity or to produce hot water for direct use. Other geothermal systems are formed even when no magma is nearby as magma heats rocks which in turn heat deeply circulating groundwater. In order to maximize the energy gleaned from these so called hot dry rocks, geothermal facilities will often fracture the hot rocks and pump water into and from them in order to use the heated water to generate electricity. The concentration of geothermal energy at any given location must be quite high in order to make heat extraction feasible, and not all geothermal sites are created equally. Regions that have well developed geothermal systems are located in geologically active areas. These regions have continuous, concentrated heat flow to the surface. • 40. Islamic Empire s Golden Age During Islamic Empire s Golden Age, ideas of science and math developed and spread. In order for this knowledge to grow, there had to be key factors to help it. The Muslims revived previous works from past civilizations to assist in this progress. Muhammad was very encouraging for all types of knowledge to grow. Three conditions that are important for the development of scientific and mathematical ideas are a unified language, the standardization of paper, and the push for learning. One condition needed for the spread of math and sciencein the .Islamic Empire was a unified language in Arabic. This unification allowed scholars to be able to communicate with another scholar from one end of the Islamic Empire to the other. Also, works that have been written in Greek, Latin, ancient Egyptian, or Chinese in the past can be translated and used to further knowledge. For example, Caliph al Mamun received permission from the Byzantine emperor to send Muslim scholars to retrieve Greek scientific writings to be translated into Arabic. (DOC. D). The weight of pure product was obtained to be 5.772 g In comparison to the theoretical yield of the experiment; it was calculated to be 65.99 % recover and 82% total yield. The melting point (MP) of the product was taken in order to identify the product. 2 trials were performed, and the results of both trials are the same, 102 105oC. The expected product of this experiment was dibenzalacetone, which has 3 different isomers: cis cis, trans trans, and cis trans, with different MPs and boiling point (BP). The true MP of Trans trans dibenzalacetone isomer is 110 110oC (ref. 3). The true MP of cis cis dibenzalacetone isomer is 60oC (ref. 3). Cis cis dibenzalacetone doesn t have MP because its appearance is oil (ref.3). In, comparison to all the isomers, the product s MP was closet to trans trans dibenzalacetone, although the product MP was lower than the true MP of trans trans dibenzalacetone. There were some possible reasons why the MP of the product was lower. The intermediate, benzalacetone with the MP of 42oC (Ref. 2), could be existed in the product resulting in lower the MP of the product. Another reason could be that the cis trans isomer of dibenzalacetone existed in the product. In order to confirm which reason is the case, infrared spectrum (IR) (see attached... For many, those wars meant the beginning of the end of the European civilization. Others, a minority, drew from that the conclusion that the European capability to overcome aggressive nationalism which caused those tragedies, is achievable by adopting the idea of the united and peaceful continent as a common project.[6] That inspiration was to be insured by a share of common, European distinctiveness. However, this process implies the necessity to consider the impact of nationalism and the role of national states in a growing trend for a united Europe. As Anthony D. Smith predicts: The Europe of the future, if it should ever emerge, will be one of the mass identification and loyalty to the European ideal, alongside or even in place of national allegiances and identities, such that large numbers of the inhabitants of the European continent will not only consider themselves to be first and foremost Europeans but will be prepared to make sacrifices for that ideal. But while Melville Feynman might have been wrong about predicting the careers of his children based on their sex, he certainly prepared the young ones well for the scientific occupation. In an interview just before his death, Feynman was asked if he could name a great influence in his life. He said, My father. Early in my life, he d tell me about the world, about nature and how interesting it was (Brian 1995, p. 49). The elder Feynman took his son on long walks in the woods, read to him from the Encyclopedia Britannica, and encouraged him to conduct experiments with household materials. Throughout elementary school, Feynman tinkered with toys, clocks, radios, and anything else he could secure for his laboratory, a workspace in the corner of his bedroom. • 48. Disadvantages Of CHO Cells CHO (Chinese Hamster Ovary) cells are cell lines extracted from the ovary of the Chinese Hamster and are exclusively used for commercial purposes in the production of recombinant therapeutic proteins. Some proteins are to be synthesized using mammalian cells rather than the commonly used microbial cells as the latter lacks the exact machinery to produce the complete protein or for safety concerns. Among the mammalian cells, CHO cells continue to be the choice for the production of several therapeutic proteins. However there are certain disadvantages associated with CHO cells which include low productivity, substrate product stability, slower growth rate, low cell density, etc. These cell linesconsume nutrients continuously beyond stoichiometric needs. Thus, the mode of operation should be chosen in such a way that they overcome the disadvantages of the CHO cell line. The large scale production of therapeutic proteins in industries is done in suspension culture as the adherent cell line poses a challenge in scaling up. Currently there are two dominant modes of operation for producing therapeutic proteins based on mammalian cell lines (Hu and Aunins, 1997) in industrial scale: Fed batch bioreactors Perfusion ... While reading the book The Discovery of Poetry by Frances Mayes, I learned a lot about figurative imagery. A concrete example of figurative imagery in Mayes poem is found in the line that reads, Men looking like they had been/attacked repeatedly by a succession /of wild animals. I know that these patients most likely had not been attacked by wild animals over and over again, but when the speaker plants these images in a reader s mind, the suffering that these patients have endured become more realistic to the reader. Sometimes using figurative imagery is much more effective than using a literal image. Mayes wants readers to know how ill some of the patients are. He goes on by describing the 200 miles of scars of a patient and how a boy who [had] shot his face off. Mayes figurative images make a stronger point because they are so blunt.
