Descriptive Essay On Elmwood Park
Elmwood Park is a village in Cook County, located in the northwest suburbs of Chicago and it was
established in 1914. The community has a population of 24,883 according to the 2010 census, and has
maintained a large Italian American population. I explored this village in early September, and stayed
for a few hours visiting the downtown area and some small neighborhoods. Downtown Elmwood Park
consisted of many restaurants, majority of them were Italian cuisine and Italian pizzerias. I saw a lot
of people outside as it was a nice warm day, there was a park that was filled with young children and
some elders, there was also some other adults walking/running with their dogs. About eighty percent
of the people there were Caucasian or at least it appeared to be that they were Caucasian. There was
about eight restaurants in just one block, and about six barber shops as well, and three grocery stores.
The village looked like it was heavily influenced with Italian culture and it almost felt like I stepped
into a typically Italian American neighborhood movie set. There was one bakery in particular that I
stepped into and also purchased bread from that filled up the block with it s smell which was pleasant
and was what appealed to me in the first place. The bakery had English and Italian text in the business
s posters and signs, a grocery stores also had the bilingual posters and as well as the restaurant next to
it. There was many Catholic parishes, all of which had religious symbols

The Meaning Of Propaganda
Propaganda can be viewed and described in many different ways. These many different views and
descriptions are based on the eye of the beholder and their views. In the propaganda poster Are we
afraid? No! what I see happening is that Britain and its colonies standing together to fight a common
threat. But, the irony in this is that they are fighting against an imperialistic country while they are still
imperialistic as well. This document has several different meanings or messages that it is trying to
convey. One meaning portrayed is imperialism, that Britain has many colonies ready to help in their
endeavor. They have the manpower from their colonie nations to help back up and strengthen the
motherland in this war if need be. While

Spirit Bear Vs Kermode Bear
spirit bear/kermode bear
Spirit bears or Kermode bears and are found off the coast of the British Columbia in a rain forest. The
kermode bear is not a Polar bear or a albino. The Kermode bear is a rare white black bear. the bear was
named after Francis kermode.
Dr Kermit and Craig Newton studied the genetics of the white black bears. The white fur of the
Kermode bear is the result of a double recessive of the gene unique to this species.
Outside the british Columbia only about one in a million black bears are white. One of these bears,a
subadult male lived near Orr, minnesota in 1996.Hair samples showed him to be genetically different
from white Kermode bears. In 2004 a mother black bear with a white cub was discovered 300 miles
northwest of Beausejour near cedar lake,Named Maskwa this white cub carried a new mutation on the
same gene that determines the coat color in Kermode bear. These four white bears were the only ones

Paleolithic vs Neolithic Cc Essay
Human existence has lasted over several million years and in that time there has been countless
advances in the way we live. Human history has had many diverse periods of time, one being the
Stone Age. During the Stone Age there were two major subdivisions, the Paleolithic and Neolithic
periods. The Paleolithic, which lasted until about 10,000 years ago, had a significant separating factor
from the Neolithic, ending in 2000 B.C.E. This factor was the way in which the people in these
periods acquired food. The Paleolithic people hunted and gathered their food while the Neolithic
people produced their own food by agriculture. These two different styles of obtaining food greatly
affected the lifestyles of each period s people. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the Neolithic period economics seemed to have played a bigger role than in the Paleolithic age.
This was mostly because of the agricultural advancement which had a significant function in their
economic system. They had surpluses of food which allowed them to trade and sell. Also having
something to barter with enabled them to buy better tools and equipment for farming. This was not so
with the Paleolithic people since they hunted and gathered their food. Since they relied on themselves
they had no reason to trade or sell. They only depended on their handmade stone and bone tools. The
only similarity between these two periods was that their lives revolved around their need for food. The
social lives of the Paleolithic foragers greatly differ from that of the Neolithic farmers. This is mostly
because of their way of acquiring food. The foragers had plenty of time after they hunted and gathered
there food because that was all they had to do while the farmers constantly had to maintain their fields.
The foragers spent their free time making art such as cave painting and constructing tools. With what
little time the farmers had they used it to build structures, tools and containers for the next harvest.
One thing they both had in common was the specific jobs that they assigned to men and women based
on each gender s abilities. In the Paleolithic time the men were the hunters, since they were more

High School Track Athlete HIIT Program Essay
With a track athlete they may be performing in various events throughout the day that require them to
cover various distances or the procession of various skill sets. Events such as sprints may be 400
meters and require incredible speeds that may only be maintained for short periods of time. They may
be involved with relays where they require coordination and pace matching for the baton to be passed.
Or they could be a hurdler and require wait high leaps on a repeated basis. No matter the task at hand

movement of some type. Research has shown that incorporating explosive exercises will benefit the
athlete by yielding maximum or near maximum rates of force development.3 By Phases 3 and 4 of
this session the athlete, if truly putting forth the effort required, will be gaining greater maximal
cardiovascular and peripheral adaptations.1 As these various physiological parameters are being
pushed the athlete will begin to see quicker adaptations and stronger correlations with their
performance.3 By creating the musculoskeletal strains, and pushing their cardiovascular workload,
they will be achieving neuromuscular overloads that will force adaptations to occur. By manipulating
these various variables within the HIIT session their body will be forced to respond. 1 To begin the

Examples Of Compromise Dbq
Compromise Essay To what extent was the United States from 1774 1865 an example of successful
compromise? Compromises are a very important part of American History. The Three Fifths
Compromise of 1787 is one of many. To whom it may concern, America was a huge example of
Compromise. To quote Kenneth C. Davis, We wouldn t be here as a country without that...
Washington D.C as a city wouldn t exist without compromise (Doc. J). The 3 ways America was
successful with Compromise from 1774 1865 were with Amendments, Slavery, and The Constitution.
To begin, Amendments are a form of successful compromise because it s a group decision. Everyone
needs to agree on the choice of correction. If the people who created the Amendments didn t agree, we
wouldn t have them today. This proves they were a success. George Washington urged congress in his
first inaugural address to propose amendments that offered a reference for the characteristic rights of
freemen and a regard for public harmony. (Doc. B) The harmony in this quote is saying that the public
should live in agreement with each other. Thomas Jefferson, the U.S minister to France at the time,
wrote James Madison that he was concerned about the omission, of a bill of rights ... providing clearly
for freedom of religion, freedom of the press, protection against standing armies, and restrictions
against monopolies(Doc. B). This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

This act did not specify the difference between pornography and web sites that talk about sexual
education. With this the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), the Electronic Privacy Information
Center and cyber space groups challenged the act under the violation of the First Amendment (Hull,
1999, p.33). Also, it prevents adults to receive any sexual content they want to access. With these
allegations, the Ninth District Court allowed an injunction of the act in February of 1999 against its
enforcement. As a result, the court argued that there were less restrictive ways to reduce freedom of
speech, subsequently using filters or blocking certain keywords without denying adults the access of
sexual content. The argument was that filters can do what COPA could not. This method can also filter
pornography not only in USA but around the world. These filters would give parents the power to
monitor their children s activity in the internet. It was also required of school and public libraries to
use these filters to prevent any indecency to children (Paxton, 2008, p.108). Although the act was not
enforced completely, the Supreme Court did allow one of part of the act to pass, giving Congress the

Essay on The Stranger and the Alchemist
THE STRANGER and THE ALCHEMIST
Belief and Response Essay As one would make it through The Alchemist or The Stranger they would
start to notice a clear separation of what each of these books portray. On one side you have The
Alchemist which represents more of a positive outlook on life and following your dreams. On the
other you have The Stranger which depicts more of a negative connotation on life. Although these two
accounts seem far from each other, they present themes throughout the text that show up in both
novels. A theme commonly noticed in both books is love and its effects on each books main character.
Another is the meaning of life , which explains why we are here on this earth. The last is the idea of
destiny/fate , which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The meaning of life also shows up a lot in both of these books. In The Alchemist the meaning of life is
stated as finding your personal legend and following your dreams. ...whoever you are, or whatever it is
that you do, when you really want something, it s because that desire originated in the soul of the
universe. It s your mission on earth. (pg. 22) Melchizedek states this saying, follow what the universe
is telling you to do. That is what you were put on the earth to do. We see The Stranger s view in the
very last lines of the novel... As if that blind rage had washed me clean, rid me of hope; for the first
time, in that night alive with signs and stars, I opened myself to the gentle indifference of the world.
Finding it so much like myself so like a brother, really I felt that I had been happy and that I was
happy again. For everything to be consummated, for me to feel less alone, I had only to wish that there
be a large crowd of spectators the day of my execution and that they greet me with cries of hate. (pg.
122 123) Meursault finally accepts that death is inevitable and he can t avoid it. He also comes to a
conclusion that life in general lacks meaning and order no matter who you are. At a ripe age of 18 and
still much to learn, I seem to think life isn t based on finding your personal legend. Life is life, and I
play it by year and go with the flow. I wasn t put on this earth for

How Did Ancient Egypt Created A Form Of Communication
The ancient Egyptians created a form of communication by creating symbols that were put together
into words, called hieroglyphs. They represented both objects and ideas, and were enscripted and
carved on walls of temples and pyramids, usually made by the pharaoh to show laws, rules, or
announcements. This type of writing held secret messages, and was hard to decode. The hieroglyphic
system used in ancient Egypt had around 750 basic symbols, called glyphs. At first they used picture
writing, and the pictures represented an object, pictograms, but later the pictures represented ideas,
known as ideograms. At last, the pictures represented both objects and ideas, but also the sound of a
word. Each picture was formed by a unique sound and image.

The Legal Repercussions Of Child Abuse
Child abuse. A term that most of us believe to be aware of, but one ought to wonder, are we really
aware of it? how one recognises child abuse ?, What are the legal repercussions of child abuse ? How
common is it in countries less developed? Is it common in the United States? Does it intervene with
old style parenting? What entities provide such information? Well before answering any of this
question is imperative to acknowledge the very basic of such topic.
The webpage Childabuse.org (a governmental webpage) defines child abuse as; ...when a parent or
caregiver, whether through action or failing to act, causes injury, death, emotional harm or risk of
serious harm to a child. There are many forms of child maltreatment, including neglect, physical
abuse, sexual abuse, exploitation, and emotional abuse. Now this definitions seems to be the general
concept of the term since Wikipedia describes it as; ... Is any act, or failure to act, by a parent or other
caregiver that results in actual or potential harm to a child. It includes all forms of physical abuse,
sexual abuse, psychological abuse, or neglect, and can occur in a child s home, or in the organizations,
schools or communities the child interacts with. Now since both of this webpages define this concept
similarly, it is fair to use either one s definition.
Although there are certain misconceptions of how common Child abuse is, A.S.C.A (Adults Surviving
Child Abuse) provides such information by disproving such

Complications of Diabetic Ketoacidosis
Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA) is a serious disease with complications that may have fatal results in
some cases. DKA is defined as an insulin deficiency that occurs when glucose fails to enter insulin
into muscles such as: liver and adipose tissue. When there is an accumulation of ketones, it leads to
metabolic acidosis which causes nausea and vomiting, as a result fluid and electrolytes are lost
(Gibbs). There are many complications of diabetic ketoacidosis, some of the most prevalent are:

Acute Pancreatitis can be a precipitation factor for diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA). One example of a
case study was with a 74 year old female with a 32 year history of type 1 diabetes who presented
DKA. Although she had no abdominal pain or tenderness, her amylase and lipase levels were elevated
and peaked at values of 1,024 unites/1 (normal range 17 100 unites/1) and 3,455 units/1 (normal range
53 unites/1), The enzymes declined precipitously to normal with rehydration and insulin
administration. Calcium was 11.7 mg/dl (805 10.5) and parathyroid hormone was 232 pg/ml (10 65).
It was felt that hypercalcemia, due to primary hyperparathyroidism, caused acute pancreatitis
precipitating DKA (Rizvi). Elevated lipase and amylase levels cause breakdown of local adipose
tissue. The time of increased amylase and lipase occurs 16 25% of the time in DKA. Some reports
show that nonspecific elevations of amylase in DKA. Increased serum lipase is also assumed to
indicate actual pancreatic involvement. (Rizvi) Diagnosis of acute pancreatitis rests on the presence of
abdominal pain and associated increases of amylase and lipas (Rizvi). Proinsulin is a vaccine
significant to insulin production. In a study, researchers injected 80 people who has had type 1 for up
to five years with a loop of DNA containing

Credit rating agencies promoted the banks to the highest possible rating of Triple A in 2007.
Then in 2008 Iceland s banks collapsed causing countless people to lose their savings. Unemployment

nothing. One third of Iceland s regulators worked at those banks. This problem exists the U.S.
In September of 2008 the U.S. investment bank Lehman Brothers filed for bankruptcy and the
collapse of AIG, the world s largest insurance company, initiated the global financial crisis. The effect
this had on shares globally was catastrophic. This in turn cost the world tens of trillions of dollars,
doubling the national debt of the Unites States and rendering thirty million people unemployed. This
crisis was not an accident. It was caused by an industry which had no supervision.
Since the 1980 s the rise of the U.S. financial sector has led to a series of increasingly dire financial
crisis. Each one of them causing more damage while the industry has made more and more money.
After the Great Depression the U.S. had forty years of economic growth without another crisis.

The Population And The Lowest Participation Rates
Target populations refer to the individuals with the lowest participation rates. The homeless population
in Anchorage, Alaska was the target population chosen for this study because of the characteristics
associated with the population. Homeless people find it more difficult to apply for, recertify, and
maintain SNAP benefits because of transiency, instability, and a lack of basic resources. A homeless
person for SNAP purposes lacks a fixed, regular, and adequate night time residence and has a primary
night time residency that is a shelter, half way house, the home of someone else, or a place where
people do not usually sleep such as a doorway or a car (Food Research and Action Center, 2011). With
approximately 77,000 Alaskans rely on soup kitchens and food pantries annually, emergency food
pantries and soup kitchens play a crucial role in providing food for Alaska s low income population.
Access to the SNAP program is essential in helping meet the need. Hunger in America, a survey
conducted by Feeding America in 2010, presented information on the clients served by the Food Bank
of Alaska. The study provided a comprehensive profile related to hunger and food insecurity
experienced by people who access charitable feeding agencies. It focused on emergency food
providers and clients but also provided information about clients that received SNAP benefits. Among
all client households served by emergency food programs of The Food Bank of Alaska, 82% are food

Scout Meeting Narrative
It was early September, the beginning of the fall season. The scorching summer sun had long been

First aid treats the ABCs as the foundation of good treatment. For this reason, most modern
commercial first aid kits (although not necessarily those assembled at home) will contain a suitable
infection barrier for performing artificial respiration as part of cardiopulmonary resuscitation,
examples include:
▪ Pocket mask ▪ Face shield
Advanced first aid kits may also contain items such as:
▪ Oropharyngeal airway ▪ Nasopharyngeal airway ▪ Bag valve mask ▪ Manual aspirator or suction unit
▪ Sphygmomanometer (blood pressure cuff} ▪ Stethoscope
[edit]Trauma injuries
Trauma injuries, such as bleeding, bone fractures or burns, are usually the main focus of most first aid
kits, with items such as bandages and dressings being found in the vast majority of all kits.
▪ Adhesive bandages (band aids, sticking plasters) can include ones shaped for particular body parts,
such as knuckles ▪ Moleskin for blister treatment and prevention ▪ Dressings (sterile, applied directly
to wound) ▪ Sterile eye pads ▪ Sterile gauze pads ▪ Sterile non adherent pads, containing a non stick

Richardson Epistolary Style
Samuel Richardson is an English writer who published during 18th century. He is famious for his
three epistolary novels: Pamela: Or, Virtue Rewarded (1740), Clarissa: Or the History of a Young
Lady (1748) and The History of Sir Charles Grandison (1753). Richardson s career was unusual for
literature. He started to write when he was fifty years old but his creativity was still young. The
History of Mrs. Beaumont is Richardson s last novel but it is unfinished. It is the story of a lady‚
whom „his soul loved and it proves that Richardson s creativity was still working until the day he
died. He liked to think about his self as being a hero of an unhappy love story. By using the epistolary

Driven by clear moralistic intentions, he wrote the epistolary novel Pamela as a realistic sentimental
parable based on an exemplary adventure. The initial area of conflict is defined morally, in foreground
being the rich seducer whose mother dies, Mr. B. and his maid, Pamela Andrews. Richardson made in
this way a sentimental tearful prose. The evolution of the plot is reproduced firstly by long letters of
Pamela to her parents and by their responses. Dialog items, indeed reduced, are also introduced in
these fictitious letters. The style is constantly punctuated by moralizing judgments and appeals to
virtue, strongly standing out the echo of Puritan moral propagated by Richardson. Basic terms of
conflict result from the aggressive behavior of the master tempted to seduce the maid and her worthy
resistance, although she was in love with him. Sentimental parable has a happy ending. Converted to
virtue by the young girl, Mr. B. who repents for his intentions, he proposed her a marriage. The
victory of a simple and pure person just emphasizes once again the cautionary lesson from this work.
The story is complex: the main heroine is Pamela Andrews, a beautiful 15 years old who was working
as a maidservant in Bedfordshire. She was an innocent, pious and virtuous girl. After the death of
Lady B, she remained due to her wish as a servant in the house. Mr. B, the new country landowner
master after his mother death, started to make advances towards the young servant. He tried to seduce
against her will and wanted to pay her to keep the secret about his mistake, but Pamela refused and
told the stories of his attempts to the housekeeper, Mrs. Jervis. One night he was hidden in her room
and tried to kiss and after this event the poor girl decided to go back to her impoverished parents to
preserve her virtue. He proposed her to marry the chaplain from Lincolnshire, Mr. Williams, but she

Calcium Intake Lab Report

Calcium is a mineral that is regulated in the blood by the thyroid. According to the Medline Plus
website (2018), Calcium is important for balancing a body s pH, contracting and relaxing muscles,
building strong bones, blood clotting, sending and receiving nerve signals, and keeping a normal

and takes from calcium stores in our bones. As stated in option three, a food journal was kept to keep
track of my calcium intake for two days and compared to a USDA website. These are my findings.

Edward Group (2015, para. 3 10), Calcium Orotate is the most effective form of a calcium supplement
and is great for supporting calcium levels. Other forms of calcium are calcium carbonate, calcium
citrate, oyster shell calcium, calcium gluconate, calcium lactate, calcium phosphate, and calcium
citrate malate, (Group, 2015, para 3 10). This means that there are several different kinds of calcium
supplements but they are all not created equal. Some calcium supplements are more bioavailably
effective than others. Other calcium supplements should be avoided. Calcium carbonate is not high in
bioavaility and requires the production of extra stomach acid to be absorbed. It is also one of the
cheapest and most prevalent forms of calcium supplements sold today , (Group, 2015, para. 3).
In conclusion, having an adequate intake of calcium in important for many functions of the body.
Keeping a journal of daily food intake can help a person to be aware of missing nutrients that are
important for proper functioning of the body. If a person is low on their calcium intake then eating or
drinking foods with dairy will allow a person to increase their calcium, because dairy has the best

How Did Nina Simone Influence The Civil Rights Movement
The soulful queen of R B, blues, and jazz stood as a figure of raw talent, resilience, and most of all
grace. She captured the essence of a strong black woman. She emerged in the 50 s and 60 s,
captivating people with her raspy voice and beautiful music training. As a devoted Civil Rights
activists, Ms. Simone used her platform as a singer to fight the cause. She was known for songs such
as Mississippi Goddam, Young, Gifted and Black and Feeling Good .
She didn t feed on fame, she used it to expand the work that others were doing. Before she would be
known as Nina Simone, on February 21, 1933, in Tryon, North Carolina, Eunice Kathleen Waymon
was born. As a young girl, playing piano in church she felt, I was a black girl and I knew about it. She
realised the effect of racism when the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia rejected her application

She sought to sing the truth and share it to anyone that would listen. She inspired many performers
including Aretha Franklin, Joni Mitchell, and Lauryn Hill. Lauryn Hill wrote because I fed on this
music ... I believed I always had a right to have a voice. Her example is clearly a form of sustenance to
a generation needing to find theirs. What a gift (Lauryn Hill). Indeed that was true, Nina Simone
inspired a new generation of talented artists to have the courage to express their talents. Her voice
continues to live on through television and film soundtracks. Two documentaries on Nina Simone s
life were released in 2015: The Amazing Nina Simone, directed by Jeff L. Lieberman and What
Happened, Miss Simone?, from Netflix. The project s detailed hard aspects of Simone s life. The
project s included the abuse Simone endured from her ex husband and also the aduse her daughter
received from her mother. What Happened, Miss Simone? later received an Oscar nomination for best

Analysis of Various International Environmental Conflicts...
Throughout the world, conflicts over environmental issues abound. As technology progresses and our
world continues to become more interconnected, an understanding of the worldâs environmental crises
is important and necessary for the well being of both humankind and the environment. This paper

Forest by Thomas T. Struhsaker, Green Guerillas edited by Helen Collinson, NIMBY Politics in Japan

As the authors point out:
The national security analyst focuses more on the mid and short term, and, looking around, sees few
conflicts in todayâs world that are the result of environmental damage. The environmental analyst
takes a longer view and asserts that todayâs environmental damage nearly guarantees future conflict.
The two communities are starting to come closer together because the accelerated pace of
environmental damage has moved the security fallout from that damage from the long term to the mid
and short term (Winnefeld 1994, p.1).
In regards to the Middle East, it appears that much of the long standing conflict in the region is linked
both directly and indirectly to water supplies. Since water is a vital part of life, it would make sense
that this is a leading reason that political conflicts in the Middle East are old and seemingly
intractable. The debate over water stems from two main sources, the Euphrates and Tigris Rivers, with
all nations in the watershed equally involved in the conflicts regarding the management of these rivers
(Winnefeld 1994). Contributing factors in the water related conflicts include issues regarding water
quality, location of water sources, and location of water demand. In addition to regional

In A Heartbeat Chapter Summary
In a Heartbeat Book Report
In the book In a Heartbeat, Amelia and Eagan are the protagonist of the book. Amelia is a young girl
who has a very serious heart sickness. On the other hand, Eagan is slightly older and has everything
she could dream of, skating, popularity, a boyfriend, money, and most of all a caring family. Amelia is
a very sweet girl, who wishes to have a normal life. Amelia has a heart disease and can not do
anything a normal person can do such as play sports, walk, eat, and ect. Amelia has brown hair, but
wants blonde hair like her mom and family, she also has blue eyes, she is short, and is fourteen. Eagan
is a girl who has been in skating since she has been 3 years old. She has a complicated relationship
with her mother, they have many fights but then at the end they love each other. Eagan is sixteen years
old and has a boyfriend. They are both caring people who are outgoing and very confident in
themselves.
In the book, Eagan lives in the United States just like Amelia. The time is set on modern days, only
that Eagan s family likes the old times. In the book, Amelia and her friend travel to a different state to
say thanks for a really big ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One way it can be better is by making the two girls know each other when they were little. That would
be better because, there would be more drama Amelia since she does have her friends heart . Another
way it would be even more better would be by having Eagan die some other way. This would be better
because it s really sad in the original book how she dies by doing her favorite activity in the world.
Lastly the book could have been even more wonderful if Amelia wouldn t have gone to meet Eagan s
parents. This would have made the book extra special because then Amelia would still feel like a
mystery since there s a part of her that still needs something. I think that these are a few reasons that
In a Heartbeat would become even

Bravery In Beowulf
1. Introduction Beowulf, a fearsome warrior, travels to the Danes homeland in order to protect them
from the evils of Grendel and his mother to the frightening dragon. He is a symbolic form to the Anglo
Saxon s due to his heroics and strength to push through when nobody else will. The epic poem
Beowulf displays Anglo Saxon culture by the belief of fate in a society where both glory and loyalty
heavily influence the peoples values and nature. Body Paragraph 1 Beowulf portrays the Anglo Saxon
ideal of bravery/glory throughout the adventure he is on. Beowulf and Grendel struggle until Grendel
finally manages to wrench himself away, leaving his arm in Beowulf s grasp. The monster staggers
back to his cave to die. The severed arm is hung in Heorot as a trophy for all to see. ... Show more

Painful, too, is the desertion of his retainers except for his young kinsman Wiglaf. Both Beowulf and
Wiglaf kill the dragon but Beowulf is mortally wounded. He asks Wiglaf to bring out the treasure so
that he might see it before he dies. By fighting along side with Wiglaf, Beowulf shows his devotion to
his men and that he will never leave their side until death. In return of the loyalty he shows his men,
he is given a proper funeral and is remembered by them till the end of their lives. I shipped a treasure
to the Wulfings and Ecgtheow acknowledged me with oaths of allegiance. Before all the adventure,
Beowulf explains how he fought other creatures throughout the world so that he could pay off his
father s debt. Beowulf s loyalty to his own family shows his courtesy to help those that helped him
when he was young. Also, Beowulf was able to form treaties with other countries, proving his loyalty
by slaying monsters from afar. Beowulfs ideal of loyalty best lies both within himself and his fellow
comrades, he doesn t want to abandon them no matter what the cost is.

Killer Angels The Human Factor Essay
Killer Angels Paper The Human Factor in the American Civil War nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;
nbsp;Michael Shaara amp;#8217;s fictional novel, The Killer Angels, is based on the Battle of
Gettysburg in the American Civil War. The novel allows the reader to recognize the heart and courage
of the more than two million men that fought in the war. Shaara focuses the reader to better understand
the reason why these men fight and the meaning of the war. Ultimately, the reader observes that the
war is fought on an individual level as much as a governmental level. These men are there to fight for
what they believe is truly right. The Confederates fought for their rights to hold slaves, their freedom

war was over. ; Knowing Hancock is on the other side discourages Armistead from fighting the battle.
There is another instance in the text that Armistead is sorry is starting too early with the attack because
Hancock may not be set and ready. He then prays to God that General Hancock would be all right. The
friendship has caused General Armistead to be disheartened towards the battle. His individual interests
are in the way of the war. nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;Stonewall Jackson at Kernstown accused
confederate General Richard Brooke Garnett of cowardice. The Battle of Gettysburg is Garnett

Why Is The Death Penalty Right Or Wrong
Look into the mirror and know, you could be next. A criminal could walk through your door at any
moment, and do God awful things to you. The death penalty is our greatest form of fear; it might scare
a criminal not to viciously commit murder. Only 31 states have the death penalty, although all states
should have it (ProCon). Why should a killer be allowed to sit in prison, living, while their victims are
dead? On this issue, people who oppose the death penalty say that the death penalty is inhumane
(Zakeri). Although I understand their point of view, this is ultimately a question of right or wrong.
Religion, financial strain on taxpayers, and victim s rights, are just a few of the reasons that capital
punishment should be supported. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is unconditionally true. Furthermore, if a man meticulously plans out a murder, commits it, then
he should be put to death. Capital Punishment is used to put cold blooded psychopaths away, and to
have their lives taken away. Taxpayers on average pay about $90,000 more per year for each prisoner
on death row (Death Penalty Information Center). Kansas legislators found that death penalty cases
cost citizens about $1.26 million per case (Amnesty International). In Maryland, the average cost of a
case is $3 million (Death Penalty Information Center). However some people argue that it is alright
for us to pay taxes on murderers, they are clearly wrong; I protest that we should not pay taxes on
killers, because our money could go to better things such as, schools. highways, and medicine
(Feingold). Although some people comment that life in prison is a more severe punishment than being
put to death, I beg to differ, because of the fact that killers are still living, and their victims are not
(ProCon). It is funny how people on death row live a life of leisure, even though they slayed a human
being. Danny Hembree Jr., killed 17 year old Heather Catterion, wrote a letter to the Gaston Gazelein
Newspaper, in North Carolina, gloating about his life in luxury on death row. He said that he watches
television in the air conditioning, takes naps at will, eats three hot meals a day, and reads whenever he

Designing A Successful Training Program
In order to create a successful training program, ConAgra Foods has to have analyzed their
organization, personnel, and tasks to ensure what kind of training is necessary. After, assessing the
organization s needs, it s clear ConAgra Foods main objective for its new training program is to focus
on providing its sales team with new skills; so every one of its salespeople know their product lines
and customers so well they can serve as trusted advisors (Noe et al., 202). This means each employee
needs to be trained in understanding financial data and how sales affect ConAgra s profits. To
accomplish this goal, the company has opened up a system to share training resources in hopes of
meeting each individual s needs. To track employee ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, by being able to track progress all the way through the program, a manager can see what
training methods were beneficial and areas which may need to be improved. When developing the
training program, the company planned well for ways to measure the results. This truly gives ConAgra
a competitive advantage over companies who do not evaluate their training methods.
ConAgra decided to expand their training efforts to include the first line supervisors, because these
members may not have had a chance to practice how to become a leader of individuals and teams. The
purpose of the training program was to have its supervisors understand what is involved in being a
leader at ConAgra Foods so their groups can provide better results (Noe et al., 202). To track the
success of the members, employee surveys were used to add feedback and develop new training
procedures where improvement was needed. Overall, the program proved to have decreased employee
turnover. Economically speaking, the results proved to have saved the company roughly $116,100 for
every class of 28 supervisors trained (Noe et al., 202). According to the company website, when
comparing 600 trained and 1,600 untrained supervisors...Those who went through the training also
were nearly twice as likely to be promoted (ConAgra Brands). Clearly, ConAgra s training methods
prove to be beneficial, has helped supervisor succeed and be

Santa Clause Argument
Santa Claus
This passage presents a discussion about arguments concerning the existence of Santa Claus. This is
an important debate for children everywhere because of the Christmas spirit that Santa Claus instills in
them. The two positions argue whether or not Santa Claus exists or not. Both viewpoints have valid
claims warranting consideration. For example, evidence indicates that Santa Claus is only imaginary.
In contrast, opposing evidence suggests that he is real. While both sides of the issue have valid points,
the claim that Santa Claus exists is the stronger supported, the position supported by a preponderance
of the evidence cited in the passages. The most convincing and forceful reasons in support of this
position are that he lives in a unseeable world, he is what brings joy to Christmas, and those who do
not believe in him are only skeptics. Accordingly, these reasons and opposing viewpoints will be
discussed next. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In support of this point, a great amount of the universe cannot be seen, and because of this, it is likely
that Santa Claus lives in that portion of the universe. In addition, if this part of the universe is
invisible, then there is no clout to the claim that he does not exist only because he cannot be seen.
Consequently, this is evidence in support of the case that there is a Santa Claus. The second relevant
point to make is support of the claim that Santa Claus does indeed exist is that he is what brings joy to
Christmas. For example, if there were no Santa Clause, Christmas would be as normal a time of year
as any. But, since Christmas is the most joyous and happy time of year, it proves that there is a
difference here. Additionally, there would be a far less joy at Christmas if there was no Santa Claus. In
short, the joy and festiveness of Christmas proves that there is a Santa

Strengths Of Formative Evaluation
1.6.2 Formative Evaluation It is used in improving the performance of teacher, student and curriculum
developer. It is used in determining the mastery level of the learner and the remedy to make. It is a
quality control evaluation. In the words of A.J. Nikto, Formative evaluation is concerned with
judgements made during the design or development of a programme which is directed towards
modifying, forming and otherwise improving the programme before it is completed. Formative
evaluation is used to monitor learning progress during instruction and to provide continuous feedback
to both pupil and teacher concerning learning successes and failures. Feedback to pupils reinforces

It informs teachers how well the intended learning outcomes have been achieved by students. The
criterion referenced evaluation aims at measuring the achievement of a learner on a certain domain to
find out his level of achievement in that domain. It has little to do with the achievement level of other
learners. Poham, W.J. and Husek, T.R. defines it as Those which are used to ascertain an individual s
status with respect to some criterion. It is because the individual is compared with some established
criterion, rather than other individuals, that these measures are described as criterion referenced
evaluation. The meaning of an individual score is not dependent on comparison with other testers. We
want to know what the individual can do, not how much he stands in comparison to others. For CRE
to be beneficial to learning, explicit criteria are essential which provide clear learning goals to

Episodic Memory Recall
Introduction: According to Levels of Processing framework, developed by Craik and Lockhart (1972),
the duration that a memory is held, is determined by the level at which the information is encoded.
Episodic memory recall is a cognitive process involved in consolidating the information presented.
The depth of processing occurring during the encoding of a memory, relates to, how well information
is recalled later. To clarify, information that we process semantically (i.e., by its meaning) comprises a
deeper level of processing than information we process structurally (i.e., appearance). Thus predicting,
the deeper an individual processes information, correlates with the duration a memory trace will last.
Consequently, memory is a by product ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, this recent study identifies the depth to which information is encoded also depends on the
time spent on cognitively thinking about the information. Semantic questions, as a result of deep
processing do require more cognitive work to be done than a structural or phonemic question.
However, the ambiguity of the definition of deep is dismantled through this study, due to the use of
requiring double the questions for structural and phonemic words. By doing so, we are evening out the
amount of cognitive capacity required to think about the word while still only using one level of
analysis. Therefore, the subject is now processing for about the same duration of time for all three
levels of

  • 2. Descriptive Essay On Elmwood Park Elmwood Park is a village in Cook County, located in the northwest suburbs of Chicago and it was established in 1914. The community has a population of 24,883 according to the 2010 census, and has maintained a large Italian American population. I explored this village in early September, and stayed for a few hours visiting the downtown area and some small neighborhoods. Downtown Elmwood Park consisted of many restaurants, majority of them were Italian cuisine and Italian pizzerias. I saw a lot of people outside as it was a nice warm day, there was a park that was filled with young children and some elders, there was also some other adults walking/running with their dogs. About eighty percent of the people there were Caucasian or at least it appeared to be that they were Caucasian. There was about eight restaurants in just one block, and about six barber shops as well, and three grocery stores. The village looked like it was heavily influenced with Italian culture and it almost felt like I stepped into a typically Italian American neighborhood movie set. There was one bakery in particular that I stepped into and also purchased bread from that filled up the block with it s smell which was pleasant and was what appealed to me in the first place. The bakery had English and Italian text in the business s posters and signs, a grocery stores also had the bilingual posters and as well as the restaurant next to it. There was many Catholic parishes, all of which had religious symbols ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the propaganda poster Are we afraid? No! what I see happening is that Britain and its colonies standing together to fight a common threat. But, the irony in this is that they are fighting against an imperialistic country while they are still imperialistic as well. This document has several different meanings or messages that it is trying to convey. One meaning portrayed is imperialism, that Britain has many colonies ready to help in their endeavor. Dr Kermit and Craig Newton studied the genetics of the white black bears. The white fur of the Kermode bear is the result of a double recessive of the gene unique to this species. Outside the british Columbia only about one in a million black bears are white. One of these bears,a subadult male lived near Orr, minnesota in 1996.Hair samples showed him to be genetically different from white Kermode bears. In 2004 a mother black bear with a white cub was discovered 300 miles northwest of Beausejour near cedar lake,Named Maskwa this white cub carried a new mutation on the same gene that determines the coat color in Kermode bear. These four white bears were the only ones that were reported.the percent of the white bears of the British columbia islands are 10 percent. ... • 5. Paleolithic vs Neolithic Cc Essay Human existence has lasted over several million years and in that time there has been countless advances in the way we live. Human history has had many diverse periods of time, one being the Stone Age. During the Stone Age there were two major subdivisions, the Paleolithic and Neolithic periods. The Paleolithic, which lasted until about 10,000 years ago, had a significant separating factor from the Neolithic, ending in 2000 B.C.E. This factor was the way in which the people in these periods acquired food. The Paleolithic people hunted and gathered their food while the Neolithic people produced their own food by agriculture. These two different styles of obtaining food greatly affected the lifestyles of each period s people. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the Neolithic period economics seemed to have played a bigger role than in the Paleolithic age. This was mostly because of the agricultural advancement which had a significant function in their economic system. They had surpluses of food which allowed them to trade and sell. Also having something to barter with enabled them to buy better tools and equipment for farming. This was not so with the Paleolithic people since they hunted and gathered their food. Since they relied on themselves they had no reason to trade or sell. They only depended on their handmade stone and bone tools. The only similarity between these two periods was that their lives revolved around their need for food. The social lives of the Paleolithic foragers greatly differ from that of the Neolithic farmers. This is mostly because of their way of acquiring food. The foragers had plenty of time after they hunted and gathered there food because that was all they had to do while the farmers constantly had to maintain their fields. The foragers spent their free time making art such as cave painting and constructing tools. With what little time the farmers had they used it to build structures, tools and containers for the next harvest. One thing they both had in common was the specific jobs that they assigned to men and women based on each gender s abilities. In the Paleolithic time the men were the hunters, since they were more muscular, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Examples Of Compromise Dbq Compromise Essay To what extent was the United States from 1774 1865 an example of successful compromise? Compromises are a very important part of American History. The Three Fifths Compromise of 1787 is one of many. To whom it may concern, America was a huge example of Compromise. To quote Kenneth C. Davis, We wouldn t be here as a country without that... Washington D.C as a city wouldn t exist without compromise (Doc. J). The 3 ways America was successful with Compromise from 1774 1865 were with Amendments, Slavery, and The Constitution. To begin, Amendments are a form of successful compromise because it s a group decision. Everyone needs to agree on the choice of correction. If the people who created the Amendments didn t agree, we wouldn t have them today. This proves they were a success. George Washington urged congress in his first inaugural address to propose amendments that offered a reference for the characteristic rights of freemen and a regard for public harmony. (Doc. With this the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), the Electronic Privacy Information Center and cyber space groups challenged the act under the violation of the First Amendment (Hull, 1999, p.33). Also, it prevents adults to receive any sexual content they want to access. With these allegations, the Ninth District Court allowed an injunction of the act in February of 1999 against its enforcement. As a result, the court argued that there were less restrictive ways to reduce freedom of speech, subsequently using filters or blocking certain keywords without denying adults the access of sexual content. The argument was that filters can do what COPA could not. This method can also filter pornography not only in USA but around the world. These filters would give parents the power to monitor their children s activity in the internet. It was also required of school and public libraries to use these filters to prevent any indecency to children (Paxton, 2008, p.108). Essay on The Stranger and the Alchemist THE STRANGER and THE ALCHEMIST Belief and Response Essay As one would make it through The Alchemist or The Stranger they would start to notice a clear separation of what each of these books portray. On one side you have The Alchemist which represents more of a positive outlook on life and following your dreams. On the other you have The Stranger which depicts more of a negative connotation on life. Although these two accounts seem far from each other, they present themes throughout the text that show up in both novels. It s your mission on earth. (pg. 22) Melchizedek states this saying, follow what the universe is telling you to do. That is what you were put on the earth to do. We see The Stranger s view in the very last lines of the novel... As if that blind rage had washed me clean, rid me of hope; for the first time, in that night alive with signs and stars, I opened myself to the gentle indifference of the world. Finding it so much like myself so like a brother, really I felt that I had been happy and that I was happy again. For everything to be consummated, for me to feel less alone, I had only to wish that there be a large crowd of spectators the day of my execution and that they greet me with cries of hate. (pg. 122 123) Meursault finally accepts that death is inevitable and he can t avoid it. He also comes to a conclusion that life in general lacks meaning and order no matter who you are. They represented both objects and ideas, and were enscripted and carved on walls of temples and pyramids, usually made by the pharaoh to show laws, rules, or announcements. This type of writing held secret messages, and was hard to decode. The hieroglyphic system used in ancient Egypt had around 750 basic symbols, called glyphs. At first they used picture writing, and the pictures represented an object, pictograms, but later the pictures represented ideas, known as ideograms. At last, the pictures represented both objects and ideas, but also the sound of a word. Each picture was formed by a unique sound and image. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One example of a case study was with a 74 year old female with a 32 year history of type 1 diabetes who presented DKA. Although she had no abdominal pain or tenderness, her amylase and lipase levels were elevated and peaked at values of 1,024 unites/1 (normal range 17 100 unites/1) and 3,455 units/1 (normal range 53 unites/1), The enzymes declined precipitously to normal with rehydration and insulin administration. Calcium was 11.7 mg/dl (805 10.5) and parathyroid hormone was 232 pg/ml (10 65). It was felt that hypercalcemia, due to primary hyperparathyroidism, caused acute pancreatitis precipitating DKA (Rizvi). Elevated lipase and amylase levels cause breakdown of local adipose tissue. The homeless population in Anchorage, Alaska was the target population chosen for this study because of the characteristics associated with the population. Homeless people find it more difficult to apply for, recertify, and maintain SNAP benefits because of transiency, instability, and a lack of basic resources. A homeless person for SNAP purposes lacks a fixed, regular, and adequate night time residence and has a primary night time residency that is a shelter, half way house, the home of someone else, or a place where people do not usually sleep such as a doorway or a car (Food Research and Action Center, 2011). He is famious for his three epistolary novels: Pamela: Or, Virtue Rewarded (1740), Clarissa: Or the History of a Young Lady (1748) and The History of Sir Charles Grandison (1753). Richardson s career was unusual for literature. He started to write when he was fifty years old but his creativity was still young. The History of Mrs. Beaumont is Richardson s last novel but it is unfinished. It is the story of a lady‚ whom „his soul loved and it proves that Richardson s creativity was still working until the day he died. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Driven by clear moralistic intentions, he wrote the epistolary novel Pamela as a realistic sentimental parable based on an exemplary adventure. The initial area of conflict is defined morally, in foreground being the rich seducer whose mother dies, Mr. B. and his maid, Pamela Andrews. Richardson made in this way a sentimental tearful prose. The evolution of the plot is reproduced firstly by long letters of Pamela to her parents and by their responses. Dialog items, indeed reduced, are also introduced in these fictitious letters. The style is constantly punctuated by moralizing judgments and appeals to virtue, strongly standing out the echo of Puritan moral propagated by Richardson. Basic terms of conflict result from the aggressive behavior of the master tempted to seduce the maid and her worthy resistance, although she was in love with him. Sentimental parable has a happy ending. Converted to virtue by the young girl, Mr. B. who repents for his intentions, he proposed her a marriage. The victory of a simple and pure person just emphasizes once again the cautionary lesson from this work. The story is complex: the main heroine is Pamela Andrews, a beautiful 15 years old who was working as a maidservant in Bedfordshire. She was an innocent, pious and virtuous girl. After the death of Lady B, she remained due to her wish as a servant in the house. Mr. B, the new country landowner master after his mother death, started to make advances towards the young servant. He tried to seduce against her will and wanted to pay her to keep the secret about his mistake, but Pamela refused and told the stories of his attempts to the housekeeper, Mrs. Jervis. While both sides of the issue have valid points, the claim that Santa Claus exists is the stronger supported, the position supported by a preponderance of the evidence cited in the passages. • 32. Episodic Memory Recall Introduction: According to Levels of Processing framework, developed by Craik and Lockhart (1972), the duration that a memory is held, is determined by the level at which the information is encoded. Episodic memory recall is a cognitive process involved in consolidating the information presented. The depth of processing occurring during the encoding of a memory, relates to, how well information is recalled later. To clarify, information that we process semantically (i.e., by its meaning) comprises a deeper level of processing than information we process structurally (i.e., appearance). Thus predicting, the deeper an individual processes information, correlates with the duration a memory trace will last. Consequently, memory is a by product ... Semantic questions, as a result of deep processing do require more cognitive work to be done than a structural or phonemic question. However, the ambiguity of the definition of deep is dismantled through this study, due to the use of requiring double the questions for structural and phonemic words. By doing so, we are evening out the amount of cognitive capacity required to think about the word while still only using one level of analysis. Therefore, the subject is now processing for about the same duration of time for all three levels of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
