The Pros And Cons Of Biological Warfare
Throughout the course of history, several methods of warfare have been practiced. One of the
standard procedures for war is to use weapons such as pistols, shotguns, grenades, and automatic
infantry. The other method is known as biological warfare, which is the use of diseases and other
biological agents to harm enemies or citizens of an opposing country. Considering that the world
flourishes in science today, scientists are researching for more efficient ways to handle war, which
is were biological warfare comes in. After this method was discovered, many armies looked to it as
the savior of war. Unfortunately, people are not aware of the many consequences that biological
warfare holds.
Biological weaponry offers a couple of positives. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Biological warfare presents many problems compared to the positives. First off, biological
weapons can potentially live in infected areas for long periods of time. For example, one of the
more common diseases used in biological warfare is Anthrax. Anthrax has the capability to
transform into spores which protects the bacteria for decades (Hoyle). This offers the chance of
spreading the biological agent in the future to other people who were unintended targets. Another
example is the incapacitating agent known as the bomblet. When used, the bomblet leaves a
remainder of five percent of the agent behind (Eitzen). If the leftover agent is identified, the
opponent can research and produce a medical treatment, rendering the agent useless. Another major
disadvantage relates to the U.S. The knowledge of the general population is that the U.S. holds no
biological weapons (Eitzen). If this is true, another country could easily attack us with biological
agents and the U.S. army would not know how to approach such a devastating hit. Although
biological warfare is cost effective, this means enemies can get ahold of the agents easier and
research more. I believe that if a group of terrorists were to spend a decent amount of time studying
the agent and manipulating it, the agent could become super

The Lion s Body
Introduction: The Panthera Leo, also known as the lion, is a member of the cat family, and
shares many common traits of this family. The lion s body is very muscular, with less bone mass
than other animals of comparable size. This allows the lion to make powerful blows with its
forepaws heavy enough to break a zebra s back. Each paw has soft pads to make its movements
quiet enough to sneak up on prey. Lions walk on their toes which means they are digitigrade
walkers. The claws on the paw grow as a series of layers. As a layer wears, the layers shed, and a
new sharp pointed claw is then exposed. The lions body is covered with a brown coat, but
sometimes, a white variant that shows up. A mature male lion has a mane that covers... Show more

When a lion kills/threatens a farmer or a rancher s livelihood, that individual is likely to poach or
poison the lion in retaliation. Farmers and Ranchers are more likely to kill the lion to make sure
they won t their crops or livestock don t get threatened. Moreover, conservation groups work with
people living in lion territories, educating them about the lion s ecological importance, and
developing cheap ways to protect their subsistence.
Evidence of Evolution:
The lion s most common and recent ancestor lived around 124,000 years ago. Learning about the
lion s history has been difficult since animals living in tropical areas tend to leave fewer fossilized
remains behind. Around the time of the earliest lion s ancestor (124,000 years ago), tropical
rainforests expanded across equatorial Africa, and the Sahara region started turning into the
savannah. Lions living in the south and east of the continent became separated from, and had began
to diverge from, those who were living in the west and north. Then 73,000 years later, the continent
dried and the Sahara expanded, isolating off the lions in the west from those in the north.
At the same time, lions on the west expanded their range into Central Africa, which became more
inhabitable. At the end of the Pleistocene period, lions left North Africa, eventually reaching as far
as India. This meant that southern and

The Beliefs Of Society In Chinua Achebe s Things Fall Apart
In the novel, Things Fall Apart, the author Chinua Achebe details the life of the protagonist,
Okonkwo, and through him the rituals and customs of the Ibo people. The practices of the Ibo
people are highly religious and taken very seriously throughout the whole clan. The religious
guidance of a select few spiritual figures dictates the lives of the entire population. Traditions
have deep religious connotations and have been passed down from the tribal ancestors who
started the customs. These ways prompt many problems for Okonkwo and others surrounding
him. Chapter 13 displays the disapproval some clansmen have with how situations are handled
in the society and is ultimately setting up the scene for why some Ibo decide to convert to
Christianity. The Ibo have an arbitrary set of rules, and this unchanging set of conventions is the
source of flaws in their society. Society should change to encompass the evolving thought styles
of its members. It s the right and duty of the people to engender change in a system that they
believe is flawed. In Chapter 13, Obierika ponders the way society reacts to Okonkwo s mishap,
Why should a man suffer so grievously for an offense he had committed inadvertently? Although
he thought for a long time he found no answer (Achebe 106). Many Ibo don t view what
Okonkwo did as a truly evil and punishable act. If they did, they would have stayed away from him
and let him suffer the punishment. However, friends went to help Okonkwo prepare to leave

Reflection For California History
This summer I have had the pleasure to intern for California History, an academic journal which
publishes research on the complex history of California from many different perspectives.
During the course of my internship, I have completed various projects involving analysis,
research, and writing. These projects have required me to apply all of my previous knowledge
and training, and challenged me beyond what I believed I was capable of. Through this process,
I have acquired valuable skills and experience that have helped me grow both personally and
academically. Furthermore, working with California History has allowed me to explore a possible
career option firsthand and gain clarity as to what path I may want to pursue after graduating. As
of August 18, I have completed 115 hours of internship experience. While California History does
not have an official posted mission statement, the various descriptions of the journal all highlight its
commitment to quality writing and research, innovative viewpoints, and a desire to spread
valuable knowledge of California s past. For instance, the about section of the California History
website describes the journal as, showcasing exceptional scholarship, engaging writing, and
innovative research and calls it essential for students, academics, and all others looking to
understand California s past. Similarly, the journal s description on JSTOR emphasizes California
History s focus on, new or under explored subjects, innovative

From Schumpeter s theory, Goodman didn t seem to match any of the entrepreneur s traits. Early
in 1939, rather than being creative destruction, he took a proven path of following popular trends
in movies and television. It was proven to be a success by hitting tremendous sale for his first
publishes. Rather than destroy establish market, Goodman s company worked their way up to the
top, together with their rival, DC comic. However, Goodman and his team have the ability to create
and exploit new ideas. For instance, they created newly naturalistic comics, in which superheroes

Sociologists described entrepreneurs as practitioners seeking in navigate the environment they are

During that time the Nazi s were killing off Jewish people, and sending them to concentration or

holocaust, and it was the genocide of the Jewish. Genocide is one of the worst things in the
world today, as it injured and killed many people. It is referred to having malicious intent of

worst and inhumane crimes in the history of mankind, as it killed off many, many people. In April
1915 the Ottoman government decided to diminish the civilian Armenian Population. The
persecutions were varying, as it was on a curve with high intensity until 1923. In 1923, the Ottoman

hundreds of thousands had become homeless and stateless refugees. By the year 1923, the

Navajo Immersion Study
The Navajo immersion programs in the American Southwest are very interesting because they have
been very successful in teaching Navajo without sacrificing the student s academic performance or
their proficiency in English. McCarty (2013) noted that The TsГ©hootsooГDinГ© BГ Гіlta is one
such immersion schoolwhere Navajo immersion students consistently outperform students from
English only classrooms on standardardized tests. Another immersion program, Puente de HГіzhГі,
has also consistently outperformed their peers in more traditional monolingual English programs.
These immersion programs have had many challenges receiving funding, maintaining their right to
teach Native languages in public schools, and scoring well enough to not invite outside criticism.

However, within the United States, I think it would also be beneficial to promote immersion
schools modeled after the Navajo immersion programs. When speaking about Puente de HГіzhГі,
the school s co founder Michael Fillerup claimed that, the vision was to create a school where each
child s language and culture was regarded not as a problem to be solved but as an indispensable
resource (2013, p. 132). It would be interesting to see if academic performance is increased
because there is some flexibility for students who aren t native speakers of English, or if English
speaking students also benefit from learning an additional language. I suspect there are a lot of
benefits that can be gained for students of all language backgrounds, and the United States should
be more open to instructing students based on the needs of local

The People Of Judah Were Faced With Many Difficult Decisions
The people of Judah were faced with many difficult decisions as the Babylonians gathered
outside the gates of Jerusalem. Their existence had been threatened before by the Assyrians and
God had saved them before. But this time seemed different. The city of Jerusalem is corrupt and
dirty and the people of Judah are unfaithful and misguided. The help of God which destroyed the
much larger Assyrian army will not be so forthcoming this time. As the people search for a
solution, they are presented with various opinions and predictions from different people. There
are prophets, priests, and kings who all claim to know the truth and claim to be the help that the
people of Judah so desire. The Judahites need to navigate all of these predictions and all of the
forecasts. They can let history be their guide, they can participate in critical arguments, and they
can consider each point carefully. But in the end each Judahite must decide where their
allegiance will lie and if it will help keep them alive. In the game, there were resolutions
proposed to determine who to listen to and which story was most agreeable. Each voting member
of the Judahite community was faced with a few basic questions. Were the prophets really
sending a truthful message of God, or are they doomsayers looking for attention? Were the priests
examples of piety and righteous life, or do they take advantage of their position for material gain?

Juarez
The movie Juarez, starring Paul Muni, Bette Davis, Brian Aherne and Claude Rains, has the perfect
story line. There s action, love, violence and heartbreak, but most importantly, it brings attention to
a piece of history that is rarely recognized: monarchs in Mexico. Louis Napoleon III of France,
played by Claude Rains, saw the American Civil War as an opportunity to advance the French
government. Louis wanted to establish French influence in Mexico, which he knew was against the
Monroe Doctrine. He took advantage of the fact that America was in a weak state due to the war,
and could therefore not intervene as per the Monroe Doctrine. In the film, he discusses with his

Although Maximilian had many supporters, it was not enough to fight against the Mexican
Republicans and Benito Juarez. On several occasions in the movie, Maximilian was asked to
step down from his position as emperor and allow Mexico to go back to its former democracy.
Juarez sent messengers as well as letters, and the final letter he sent mentioned a threat of
Maximilian s blood spilling if he did not oblige. Maximilian would not step down and insisted he
was doing what he was sent there to do. As the Civil War in the United States ended, the United
States was finally able to help Mexico fight against the French. This led to a weakening of the
French presence in Mexico and eventually Napoleon decided to pull out his troops. Napoleon
was very persistent in his efforts of getting Maximilian to leave Mexico, and almost succeeded,
but not before Carlotta could go back to France and beg him to change his mind, and instead
support the monarchy. Napoleon would not budge on his decision and Maximilian gave in and
wrote his letter of abdication. When Maximilian read his letter to his soldiers, they were
extremely upset and General Mejia, who was an Indian and never showed emotion, cried.
Colonel Lopez protested Maximilian s abdication and told him that if he left, it was surely a death

Vincent L. Harris
Webster University
Abstract
All indications are that Operation Shady RAT (Remote Access Tool) started in 2006 although it
went undetected for several years before begin discovered by analysts at McAfee Incorporated in
2011. Originally it was thought that the tools and techniques used during Operation Shady RAT
were highly complex later investigations determined that the exploits used were previously
identified and software vendors has published appropriate mitigation procedures to protect
computers and networks from unauthorized access. The range of countries and businesses targeted
during the operation highlights the importance of proper patching and vulnerability management
policies. Operation Shady RAT differed from many other cybercrimes by not specifically targeting
computer systems for financial gain; it appears that the perpetrators were after trade secrets and
intellectual property. There are differing opinions on the severity and complexity methods used to
compromise the computer systems by security vendors McAfee and Kaspersky but those whose
information was accessed without proper authorization will attest to the significance of the
compromises. There has been no attribution for the perpetrators of Operation RAT.
A 2011 report by McAfee revealed a five year history of compromised computer systems that they
deemed Operation Shady RAT . Operation Shady

The Influence Of Moral Panics
Chances are that in a given person s lifetime, they have experienced a number of moral panics
that have in some way affected society. The term moral panic encompasses a wide variety of
events that can be applied to something as severe as a terrorist attack or to a mass media craze,
such as the one over the death of Harambe, the gorilla from Cincinnati. In order for a certain social
pattern to develop into what sociologists would call a moral panic, it must disrupt the operation of
society. The historical American timeline has been greatly influenced by a number of moral panics
that created cultural and structural changes in society. Sociologists started defining public debate

Trigger Point Therapy
Trigger Point Therapy
What are Trigger Points?
Commonly referred to as myofascial trigger points in the medical profession, these locations on
your body are a common cause of discomfort and pain. These areas commonly produce referred
pain, meaning that pain from this area can be found in other muscle groups and joints away from
the source of the pain itself. This is why myofascial discomfort in one s spine or shoulder often
causes headaches and neck pain.
What Causes This Pain?
This intense pain can come from a variety of sources, including bad posture, excess weight,
physical injury or stress, joint problems, vitamin and mineral deficiencies, and even poor sleep.
If you are suffering from joint pain or spinal pain, you may have visited a medical professional and
been told that it was a result of a weak or injured joint, or even a bulging or misaligned disc.
However, the pain quite possibly could have resulted from a trigger point issue. ... Show more

Office professionals often develop severe pain from sitting in the same position all day long and
by using their keyboard and mouse in the same manner day in and day out for years. Additionally,
video game users frequently report pain from their steady use of their hands and fingers in an
unnatural way. Assembly line workers, construction workers, and even gardeners can suffer from
similar pain as a result of repetitive motion. This sort of pain is also found fairly regularly in new
mothers, who suffer hip pain as a result of carrying their newborn around with them.
Another common culprit of this type of pain is poor posture due to infrequent exercise and strength
training. Additionally, those that suffer from consistent stress often face pain as well. Constant
muscle clenching and physical tension can take a toll on the body, leading to muscle imbalances
and chronic pain.

Miss Peregrine s Home For Peculiar Children
Miss Peregrine s Home for Peculiar Children is a horror young adult literature written by
Ransom Riggs. It tells Jacob Portman s story who followed clues that lead him to a house for
refugees on the Cairnholm Island off the coast of Wales, where his grandfather used to stay

Criminal Justice Case Summary
Introduction
Christopher Byers, Michael Moore, and Steven Branch were second graders in Weaver
Elementary School (Egan, 2016). On May 5, 1993, they went missing after going on a bike ride in
West Memphis, Arkansas (Leveritt, 2002). On the next day, their bruised and mutilated hog tied
naked bodies were found in Robin Hood Hills near Interstate 40, setting off an all out effort to find
their murderers (Linder, 2013). Within a month, police was convinced that three outcast teenagers
were responsible (Linder, 2013). With pressure on their backs to find the culprits, authorities
arrested them. They were known around town for wearing black and listening to heavy metal

6.HBL Strategic IT Changes, Predicted Benefits, and Opportunity Cost:
Strategic HR ideas are difficult to implement as the HBL s HR system is outdated when compared
to the relatively newly established banks within the country. HBL engaged IBM s consultants to
provide them a new system. This system was capable of functionalities including:
An employee can see his/her basic data which includes basic profile, previous performance review,
annual leave, payroll, academic and professional qualifications, vocational training and archived of
achievements on various projects employees have worked during the number of years.
The objective to implement such ERP system was to develop a skills data bank within HR
department that can make it self sufficient for future work related resource allocations and could
direct the leaders into the right way to utilize the workforce as per their specialist skills. As per top
management predictions, once implemented the system could generate quantifiable synergies and a
resultant competitive advantage over rivals. The software could also be used for budgetary controls
over recruitment costs and help to identify the short term and long term employee training needs
without any policy constraints HBL currently have due to its bureaucratic culture. This way the
bank could have developed the swift response to its future workforce needs and help strengthen the
long term business sustainability in line with its corporate objectives.

Analysis Of Sam Walton s Vision
In 1963, Sam Walton had a vision. A vision, that he could bring what the consumers needed, to
them, at the lowest price possible. Mr. Walton believed that a company could not be run by just
one person, it had to take team work. With Mr. Walton relying on his associates at the lowest
level possible, he created the retail empire known today as Walmart. Mr. Sam, as he was
referred to, would visit each and every store to learn about its culture. He would sit down with
each and every associate and get ideas, comments, concerns, and anything that the associates
wanted to talk to him about. This practice allowed for Walmart to create a culture of its own. A
culture where each person makes a difference, no matter what your background or life style. The
cultural synergy remains the same today. This philosophy is the basis for Walmart s slogan,
Every person makes a difference. Sam Walton knew that in order to be successful he needed to
hear from everyone, to make everyone a spokesperson for the company. Many of the ideas that
have been put into play have come from the lower level associates who never thought they could
make a difference. Each associate comes from a different walk of life and background. This leads
to the diverse workforce that Walmart has today. Sam s practices have been instilled in today s
current CEO, Doug McMillion. Doug McMillion, only the fourth CEO of Walmart since Sam
stepped down in 1988, has regained the atmosphere that Sam created and has mastered the

The History of Canada: Canada is a country in North America that consists of 10 provinces: Quebec,
Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland, Manitoba,
New Brunswick, and Saskatchewan. They also have 3 territories: Northwest Territories, Yukon,
Nunavut. The capital of Canadais Ottawa, their prime minister is Stephen Harper, and their
governor general is David Johnston. Canada used to be considered a monarchy, but they are now
owned by their own House of Commons. Although the governor is the representative for the Queen,
she is still just seen as a figurehead.

Emotional Guilt in Nathaniel HawthorneВґs The MinisterВґs...
Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Minister s Black Veil is a story of guilt, humility, sin, hypocrisy, love,
compounded emotional stability and trials of life. It is a work of gothic literary art that describes
the complexity of emotions and the psychological give and take that takes place when processing
and dealing with any human emotion. The gothic writing style Hawthorne uses in The Minister s
Black Veilmakes it easy for him to focus on one main emotion: guilt. Hawthorne is no stranger to
guilt, a huge reason why he discusses its nature so much. The Hawthorne families, formally known
as Hathorne, were involved in the Salem Witch Trials and have carried the shameand guilt of their

Hooper.
The use of a minister as the main character is especially significant throughout this gothic story. In
literary symbolism, a minister is applied as a symbol of light, happiness and peace. Hawthorne
takes this symbol and instead transforms Hooper into a representation of distress and obscurity. The
rumor Our parson has gone mad! (2432), becomes the general consensus of the surrounding
community. In this specific condemnation Hawthorne skillfully uses the word mad in this sentence
to portray various contexts. Firstly, the word mad is used to describe the mental state of the
Minister but it is also applied to depiction of the condition concerning the community s sense of
ordinariness. This coincides with the public s view that the Minister has become deranged because
they assume that he is hiding his identity from the community. Secondly, the connotation of the
word mad is that the community is slowly going mad because of the lack of knowledge of what is
happening with Mr. Hooper. Hawthorne also introduces a personal response from one of the public
that reads: ...I would not be alone with him for the world (2433), which describes the mistrust of
their minister that, in turn, is influencing them to become mad . A large portion of The Minister s
Black Veil that demonstrates this story is gothic is the technique

The Air National Guard And Part Of The 176th Wing
I am in the Air National Guard and part of the 176th Wing. The two primary missions of the
176th Wing are airlift and search and rescue (to include civil search and rescue). This includes
federal missions as well as state missions. My organization does not seek a profit but we do have
competitors for our airlift and search and rescue capabilities. According to Grant and Jordan (2012),
an industry should focus on strategic managementand focus on the competition and the goal of
having a competitive advantage. The 176th Wing s internal resources and capabilities allow us to
be different from our civilian and military competitors within the state concerning civil search and
rescue (Grant Jordan, 2012). Our key competitors are the State of Alaskaand the Coast Guard in the

176th Wing Strategy and How it was Developed The strategy of the 176th Wing is to work with
internal and external partners to increase our Arctic representation, emergency management

Contrasts between Zeffirelli and Luhrmann’s Romeo and...
Contrasts between Zeffirelli and Luhrmann s Romeo and Juliet There are many differences,
large and small, between Zeffirelli and Luhrmann s version of Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet.
After seeing the first scene of both of these films, some notable contrasts became clear. The
props used in both films differ greatly, in the 1967 version, very dated costumes were used, it
looked like the director wanted a medieval style to be shown in the film judging by the costumes
and props used. Real swords were drawn by the Capulet s and the Montague s as the play suggests
but the fighting seemed quite unbelievable to a modern day viewer as did some of the stalls used in
the small market surroundings.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The scenery in each play also differs greatly; the 1967 version is set in a medieval village with
castles and a small market. Again its age shows as the buildings and backdrops look quite fake
against the modern scenery in the 1997 film. Good lighting is used in the older film but again
the newer one has realistic effects and buildings and overall has better quality scenery. In both
films, certain lines are missed out or changed slightly; I think the language used is basically the
same but in the market it was hard at times to hear what exactly was being said over all the noise
of the villagers. Although Luhrmann did a good job of bringing modern props into the film, the
language used in play sounded odd coming from modern people, dressed in modern clothes at a
petrol station. So I think the older film did a better job with the language despite the hearing
difficulty in some parts. The Acting quality was good in both films, but I found the style in the
early 1967 version was boring and the fight scenes were slightly unbelievable. The 1997 version
was more exciting and kept u interested but there wasn t really much between the two films in the
quality of acting. Finally I looked at the different camera techniques used, it was interesting to see
that both plays had shots of the legs or shoes of one of the families, Zeffirelli shot

Nebuchadnezzar s Fall Of Babylon
1 3: The phrase and I looked marks the beginning of the fourth visionary segment of Revelation as
John sees the Lamb upon Mount Zion. The slain Lamb stands on Mount Zion, the place where
God himself dwells, while the Beast only stands upon the sands of the sea (Joel 2:32 and Isaiah
2:2). The 144,000 that are with God most likely stand for the whole church of JesusChrist, the same
people in Revelation 7:4. This would not be talking about a spiritually elite people, however, and
the people are in contrast with those who whored themselves out to the beast on earth. The harpists
harping their harps in heaven emphasize the tremendous joy and worship that is going on because
of the righteous judgment of God. The people of God are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This references Nebuchadnezzar s prideful description in Daniel 4:30, where Babylon has fallen,
just as Nebuchadnezzar s reign fell. Babylon makes the nations drunk with her impurities, and
therefore corrupts the nations in her evil ways, making them drink the wine of the wrath of God
s wrath because of their unholy fornication. Those who have worshipped the beast and received
the mark on their hands or heads now must drink the wine of the wrath of God, a fit punishment
for the crimes that they committed against God. This demonstrates the eye for an eye principle,
where those who worshipped the beast are subject to due torment, such as in Psalm 60:3 and
Psalm 75:8. The Greek used here to describe God s anger, orgД“, is translated indignation. This
denotes the kind of anger that rises out of a settled disposition, an accurate description of the
wrath of God. l This wine is full strength as it is not broken down in any way, and the torment
itself is with fire and sulfur, a symbol of judgment upon those who are unbelievers. This is done in
the presence of the Lamb, meaning that those who denied Christ will be forced to acknowledge
Him as they are punished justly in His

A Happier Tomorrow in Today Will Be a Quiet Day Essay
A Happier Tomorrow in Today Will Be a Quiet Day
In the story Today Will Be a Quiet Day written by Amy Hempel, one may be inclined to believe
that there is a tone of depression or sadness among the father and the two children. This is shown
in the opening sentence, while the three are stalled in traffic on the Golden Gate Bridge. The boy
states, I think if the quake hit now the bridge would collapse and the ramps would be left (Hempel
1202). We also learn that the boy had a best friend who committed suicide about a year before.
Finally, the fact that a mother is not mentioned leaves the reader with a suspicion that the parents
may be divorced, separated, or even worse, the mother may be deceased. Even though these

This is shown throughout the car ride when the boy and girl are telling jokes, and the boy constantly
recites humorous bumper stickers. Another example of the father s attempt to have fun with his
children is his initial plan to attend the arm wrestling tournament. This is shot down by the
children, but they still find an interesting place to have a nice lunch. The day proved to be a fun
and relaxing day for the family, and hinted that less disastrous times are in store for them.
Next, the fact that the daughter has just received her driver s license is a step towards happier
times. Driving on her own is probably one of the most exciting times of her life, and she makes it
known to her family that she received the highest grade in the class. The father trusts her and lets
her drive all the way home, which raises her confidence and shows the trusting relationship
between the father and daughter. Another example which shows happier times coming to the
family is when the father tells the children that he has both good and bad news. He goes on to ask
which would the children prefer to hear first. The daughter immediately answers that she wishes to
hear the bad first. This is surprising to her father, but it shows that she is beginning to mature. The
father is glad to hear that the daughter can handle the bad news, when earlier the truth had to be
hidden from her, like the death of the dog. This shows how naive the daughter was in her younger
years, and now that she has

Conformity In The Lottery
Conformity, the act of mimicking a groups behavior, attitudes, or beliefs. Is this a positive or
negative thing? Others may say that it s a positive thing because it was the foundation of modern
laws, but that was a very long time ago, does this positive light on conformity still apply?
Conformity is a negative thing because the Holocaust, Tessie Hutchinson was stoned to death, and
the mere presence of friends influences risk taking, and all three of these examples start with the
same thing, Conformity. First of all, The Holocaust started when a large group of German soldiers
had conformed to their leader, Hitler, and continuously followed orders to the dot, mostly out of
fear of being executed. While some may say they were following orders to save themselves, were

Essay about Feminism and Changing Perceptions of Motherhood
Societal perceptions of motherhood in North America have changed drastically over the last century
and continue to change. Due to prescribed traditional gender roles, the concept of motherhood has
historically been latent in the concept womanhood, in that a woman s ability to reproduce was seen
to be an inherent part of her identity. Thus there existed societal pressures not only for women to
become mothers, but to fit into the impossible standard of being the perfect mother. However, as the
feminist movement gained more ground and women were increasingly incorporated into the
workforce, these traditional views of genderroles and in turn motherhood were challenged. As the
family dynamics that exist today are much more diverse, what... Show more content on

order to divert the dialogue away from the real issues such as affordable health care, quality

problems in children (207). However, they argue that it is now accepted that these disorders are in

portrays a universal kind of woman white, affluent, and heterosexual ignoring the fact that there are
many different kinds of mothers of all backgrounds, sexualities, and economic statuses which can
make those who are not reflected as the average mother, feel inadequate. The authors further argue
that these messages that working mothers are harming their children are what discourage women
from economic participation and achievement and can have a negative impact on a mother s
perception of herself which in turn can affect her performance as a parent. It seems that the

This paper is going to show insight and inside knowledge of the communication accommodation
theory through convergence, divergence, social identity, and initial orientation. Throughout this
paper, evidence will be shown through these four different elements and four studies on how they
play an enormous role within communicationbehavior. Research that I have conducted show
studies that have tested and analyzed how participants in each test use these four elements when
speaking with a foreigner. I am going to apply these tests and results to my own experiences when
I am speaking with a foreigner, specifically for when I am in Swedeneach summer when I am

significant elements within that theory; which include convergence, divergence, initial orientation,

possible situations such as my own situation applied through these elements. Especially since

Disadvantages Of The Fptp Electoral System
1.The MP for my area is Gavin Newlands. The MSP for the constituency is George Adam. The
MSP s for the region are Neil Bibby, Mary Fee, Maurice Corry, Jamie Greene, Maurice Golden,
Ross Greer and Kenneth Macintosh. 2.Gavin Newlands, who is the MP was elected under the
First Past the post electoral system. The MSP s were elected under PR system, called Additional
Member System. 3.There are two types of electoral systems which are First Past the Post (FPTP)
and Proportional Representation (PR). FPTP is used to elect the MPs to gain seats in the UK
parliament. The one who gets the majority of the votes wins. PR is a form of an electoral
system. This decides the fact that, on the basis of the number of votes that have been made,
must correspond on the seats they will receive. This ensures that the votes are all counted for.
There are different types of systems under PR too such as, STV and AMS The advantages of
FPTP are that it is easily understood by voter when they are placing a vote. This is because it is
simple and easy to use. This means that the candidate who gets the most votes wins and they
only have to put a cross next to the candidate of their choice which keeps it very simple. Another
advantage is that the results of the elections are produced very quickly. The votes are counted
for each of the candidates in a constituency and whoever gets the most votes wins. This is a
reasonably quick process with the whole election results getting counted the next day. One
disadvantage of using the FPTP system is that it does not produce a proportional result. This
means that the % of votes received using FPTP does not compare with the % of seats gained.
This is unfair and means that the winners are over represented. Another disadvantage of FPTP is
that it can result in a lot of wasted votes. This means that as it is the person with the most votes
that wins, all the other votes are discarded, and individuals do not have their votes heard. An
advantage of PR is that, no votes are wasted, unlike FPTP. All the votes under PR system are
counted and taken into consideration. It is more proportional as the number of seats do reflect on
the number of votes that were put in for each party. Another advantage is

Classic Greek Philosophy
The downfall of Greece s Mycenaean period was thought to have begun from internal civil turmoils
that led to an unstable government. The weakened government left the country vulnerable to
foreign mariners who took advantage, invaded, and destroyed much of the country.
2. Describe Classic Greek Philosophy.
Classic Greek Philosophy is largely based on the ideologies of Socrates and those who supported
and added on to his ideas, such as Plato and Aristotle. Rather than believing that the world was
created by one or many gods, Socrates and other Greeks relied on observable evidence, scientific
reasoning, and realistic thoughts to explain the natural processes of the world.

International Criminal Court Argumentative Essay
In 1998, the International Criminal Court was created through the Rome Statute. The court was
made with the intention of being a justice system that had jurisdiction over international crimes
such as war crimes and genocide. Originally, there were 124 states that ratified the International
Criminal Court and there were 31 states that signed. Recently, states have decided to leave the
International Criminal Courtor retract their signatures. There are many arguments as to why these

From the point of view of a realist, states tend to pursue their own interests. Specifically, states that
have not ratified the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court can do what they deem
necessary whether or not it is in accordance with international law. Therefore, states, such as South
Africa, are driven by their own self interest to leave the International Criminal Court. For South
Africa, their self interests may include protecting their citizens from what they believe is an unjust
court system. African leaders, like the leaders in South Africa, believe that the International Court
System is biased and is a tool for Europe to beat up on Africa. (NEW YORK TIMES ARTICLE). In
particular, realists believe that self interest is driven by the state s pursuit of power. In this case, the
countries that are not under the International Criminal Court s jurisdiction do not have to follow the
international laws that are defined in the Rome Statute. Therefore, in pursuit of power, the South
African government may choose to follow the suit of other powerful countries and leave the
International Criminal Court. In contrast to the realist view, constructivism is based on the fact that
the system is created by the states, and, therefore, anarchy is

Molecular and Cellular Behavior
Signal transduction pathways link signal reception with cellular response
Signal transduction pathways regulate what occurs in, between, and amid individual cells. They
are incredibly crucial because they initiate large responses beginning with a single signal. These
chemical signals are called ligands that enter the cell either through active or passive transport. If
the ligand is small and nonpolar (such as nitric oxide, oxygen gas, and carbon dioxide), then it
will simply diffuse through the cell membrane and will attach to an intracellular receptor.
However, if the ligand does not fit into this category it will attach to a membrane receptor. These
ligands are specific to each receptor. This ensures that no ligand will bind to an incorrect receptor.
Once a receptor is bound, a signal is transduced in a way that the cell can acknowledge it. Signal
transduction pathways will fundamentally affect gene expression, change enzyme or protein
activity, and possibly cell death.
Membrane Receptors
Membrane receptors span the membrane of the cell. Since hydrophilic molecules cannot simply
diffuse through the cells to send a signal to the cell, they must attach to these receptors to be able to
send a signal inside the cell.
Ligand Gated Ion channel receptor
Specific signal molecules open and close ion channel receptors that permit the passing of ions in
and out of the cell. These ions include Na+, K+, Ca2+, or Cl , necessary for sending chemical
signals.

Comparison Of Octavian And Alexander The Great
I think Octavian Is an effective ruler out of Emperor Qin, and Alexander the Great because he
used strategy thinking to become an emperor for example he gave all of his power to the senate
knowing that they will make him an emperor besides his army lasted at least 1,500 years and
that gave him enough time to get total control of rome and other place. What led to him
becoming a emperor was the political offices his father gave to him before his death which
happened when Octavian was 4 four years old which led to him becoming ruthless when he
became an adult. Octavian had many military alliances which led to him becoming a little bit more

completing them all. Also, during the warm up exercises I ve started to be able to relax my
body more, I can now feel my upper arms start to touch the floor when I m laying down instead
of just my hands, shoulders and elbows. This class involved doing some word association games
in addition to more work on our open scenes. I didn t perform any open scenes in front of the
class but I did do a few recitals of it with a partner, including with some circumstances given to us
by the professor. While previously I found that I was very good at imagining my own
circumstances for the scene and acting on those, I feel that I don t do quite as well when being
directed. I think that in the futureit will be important for me to learn to naturally use the
circumstances I am given in my acting.
Entry 2. Today my main goal was to remain motivated. For whatever reason I started to lose
interest in the class around the time we started our Hey everybody exercise, got better afterwards
and then gradually lost interest when the other students began work on their scenes and
monologues until the end of class; so I suppose that I failed. Today s class included hot clapping,
hey everybody, comic strip, night

Substance Abuse Personal Statement
I have recently graduated from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor s degree in Psychology
and a minor in Addictive Disorders and Recovery Studies. I have also recently been accepted to
University of Houston Clear Lake s Clinical Psychology Master s program. My main areas of
interest are mental health issues and substance abuse issues. Therefore, my educational and
career goal is to be able to help people with these types of issues. The comorbidity of drug
addiction and other mental disorders has been a primary research topic for decades in the
psychology community. This trend is evident by the plethora of studies conducted regarding a
variety of combinations of substance addictions and mental disorders. I believe that being able to
find so many scholarly resources is extremely encouraging to novices in the field, such as myself,
because it inspires them to learn more about and conduct more research on this topic.... Show more

For example, studies are frequently restricted to alcoholism as the drug due to the legal
complications involving other drugs. The legal status of several other drugs, such as heroin and
meth, make it difficult to study the mental health of those who are addicted to such substances.
Also, the stigmas that people who are addicted to drugs, as well as people who suffer from
mental disorders, face is excruciatingly crippling to the field of research. Due to current stigmas, a
meth addict with schizophrenia is not going to want to seek help for their own issues let alone
participate in a research

Research Paper On Electric Cars
Are Electric Cars the Answer to Climate Change?
The market for electric cars has exploded over the last couple of years. The idea that owning an
electric car will reduce pollutants and help with climate change is a popular opinion. However,
research shows that electric cars actually contribute similar levels of pollutants to the environment
as their counterpart: internal combustion engines. Electric cars have been painted from the very
beginning as zero emission vehicles. Should a vehicle be advertised as a zero emissions vehicle
when the power that it charges from is far from zero?
An environmentalist named Robert F. Kennedy wrote an article in 2009 for the Financial Times in
which he said that the United States must end its dependence on deadly, destructive coal (Bryce
58). Acid rain, airborne particulates, water pollution, and air pollution are just ... Show more content

Nuclear can produce 56 watts per square meter while wind only produces 1.2 watts per square
meter. Wind requires 45 times the land to produce the same amount of power. Not only does
nuclear require very little land to produce a lot of power, but the amount of waste it produces is
next to none. In one year, the U.S. coal industry produces nearly 2,200 times as much solid waste
as the U.S. nuclear industry has produced in more than four decades (Bryce 261).
Emissions coming out of an internal combustion engine are produced at the car and that is where
people inhale them. Fuel burning internal combustion engines that power conventional vehicles
emit carbon dioxide and fine particulate matter including acids, organic chemicals as well as dust
and soil; this pollution has been linked to respiratory and heart problems and cancer (Park). With
an electric car those same emissions are being released at a power plant while the car is being
driven somewhere else. This has given the illusion that driving an electric vehicle is

The Benefits Of Technology In Education
According to Pathways, if a child can t read at grade level by the fourth grade he or she is
unlikely to ever catch up. However, growing up in a world full of technology in high tech
classrooms, children are able to have an advantage in learning. Schools and teachers are involving
technology in their student s school work and everyday tasks. As they grow older, the effects in
learningvary for each individual, especially in their adult years. Some adult jobs involve
technology which affects adults in their learning especially if they grew up without it. Living in
the 21st century, there are pros and cons of how technology can help you or someone not only
learn, but also use it for literary reasons. According to our survey, 95.2% individuals grew up with
television in which helped them have a basis on learning such as Dora the Explorer, Blue s Clues,
and Sesame Street. Kids basically learned colors, alphabets, and numbers in a fun way watching
their favorite characters on screen. Also in our first source, a man named K. Ciampa did a study to
prove the fact that developing comprehension skills, vocabulary, and complex thinking is an
essential starting factor for elementary kids. Teachers are then challenged to find ways to encourage
their students to not only continue reading but to become stronger readers. He states that
incorporating reading within technology engages the students more and affects their progress in
their reading (Ciampa). Nowadays, teachers are using and

The Different Types of Thalassemia and How is Diagnosed
Thalassemia is basically a name for similar groups of inherited blood diseases that involve missing
or abnormal genes regarding the protein in hemoglobin which is the red blood cells that carry
oxygen throughout the body. I will discuss the different types of Thalassemia, how Thalassemia is
diagnosed, and the treatments available. I will also discuss the complications and side effects of the
treatments, the disease s causes and effects, and how it is more dominant in some parts of the world
than others. Thalassemiais a blood disorder which means the body makes fewer healthy red blood
cells and less hemoglobin. Hemoglobin is a protein that carries oxygen throughout the body and
having less hemoglobin leads to anemia. Alpha globin and beta... Show more content on

Abnormalities on one or both of the genes cause the disorder. The strength of the condition is
determined by the damage of the mutation gene in the body and the amount of beta globin
genes that carry a mutation called Thalassemia minor, which is also known by a Thalassemia
trait. The Thalassemia trait is caused by a missing or abnormality on only one beta globin gene.
Diseased individuals generally have no symptoms, though some may develop a mild anemia.
However, they can pass the abnormal gene to their children. Thalassemia Intermediate is when
both beta globin genes become mutated. These gene abnormalities are less dangerous than
Thalassemia major gene abnormalities mostly. These individuals usually have mild to moderate
anemia and they develop some of the complications seen in Thalassemia major, such as bone
abnormalities or an enlarged spleen. Many affected people require more frequent blood
transfusions in order to reduce the risk of complications. Thalassemia major is arguably the most
severe form and is the product of damaging mutations on both beta globin protein genes. It also is
commonly known by Cooley s anemia, named after the doctor who first identified it in 1925.
Most affected individuals appear healthy at birth. However, during the first year or two of life,
they become have a poor appetite and become pale. They do not grow

  • 2. The Pros And Cons Of Biological Warfare Throughout the course of history, several methods of warfare have been practiced. One of the standard procedures for war is to use weapons such as pistols, shotguns, grenades, and automatic infantry. The other method is known as biological warfare, which is the use of diseases and other biological agents to harm enemies or citizens of an opposing country. Considering that the world flourishes in science today, scientists are researching for more efficient ways to handle war, which is were biological warfare comes in. After this method was discovered, many armies looked to it as the savior of war. Unfortunately, people are not aware of the many consequences that biological warfare holds. Biological weaponry offers a couple of positives. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Biological warfare presents many problems compared to the positives. First off, biological weapons can potentially live in infected areas for long periods of time. For example, one of the more common diseases used in biological warfare is Anthrax. Anthrax has the capability to transform into spores which protects the bacteria for decades (Hoyle). This offers the chance of spreading the biological agent in the future to other people who were unintended targets. Another example is the incapacitating agent known as the bomblet. When used, the bomblet leaves a remainder of five percent of the agent behind (Eitzen). If the leftover agent is identified, the opponent can research and produce a medical treatment, rendering the agent useless. Another major disadvantage relates to the U.S. The knowledge of the general population is that the U.S. holds no biological weapons (Eitzen). If this is true, another country could easily attack us with biological agents and the U.S. army would not know how to approach such a devastating hit. Although biological warfare is cost effective, this means enemies can get ahold of the agents easier and research more. I believe that if a group of terrorists were to spend a decent amount of time studying the agent and manipulating it, the agent could become super ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Lion s Body Introduction: The Panthera Leo, also known as the lion, is a member of the cat family, and shares many common traits of this family. The lion s body is very muscular, with less bone mass than other animals of comparable size. This allows the lion to make powerful blows with its forepaws heavy enough to break a zebra s back. Each paw has soft pads to make its movements quiet enough to sneak up on prey. Lions walk on their toes which means they are digitigrade walkers. The claws on the paw grow as a series of layers. As a layer wears, the layers shed, and a new sharp pointed claw is then exposed. The lions body is covered with a brown coat, but sometimes, a white variant that shows up. Evidence of Evolution: The lion s most common and recent ancestor lived around 124,000 years ago. Learning about the lion s history has been difficult since animals living in tropical areas tend to leave fewer fossilized remains behind. Around the time of the earliest lion s ancestor (124,000 years ago), tropical rainforests expanded across equatorial Africa, and the Sahara region started turning into the savannah. Lions living in the south and east of the continent became separated from, and had began to diverge from, those who were living in the west and north. Then 73,000 years later, the continent dried and the Sahara expanded, isolating off the lions in the west from those in the north. At the same time, lions on the west expanded their range into Central Africa, which became more inhabitable. At the end of the Pleistocene period, lions left North Africa, eventually reaching as far as India. This meant that southern and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Beliefs Of Society In Chinua Achebe s Things Fall Apart In the novel, Things Fall Apart, the author Chinua Achebe details the life of the protagonist, Okonkwo, and through him the rituals and customs of the Ibo people. The practices of the Ibo people are highly religious and taken very seriously throughout the whole clan. The religious guidance of a select few spiritual figures dictates the lives of the entire population. Traditions have deep religious connotations and have been passed down from the tribal ancestors who started the customs. These ways prompt many problems for Okonkwo and others surrounding him. Chapter 13 displays the disapproval some clansmen have with how situations are handled in the society and is ultimately setting up the scene for why some Ibo decide to convert to Christianity. The Ibo have an arbitrary set of rules, and this unchanging set of conventions is the source of flaws in their society. Society should change to encompass the evolving thought styles of its members. It s the right and duty of the people to engender change in a system that they believe is flawed. In Chapter 13, Obierika ponders the way society reacts to Okonkwo s mishap, Why should a man suffer so grievously for an offense he had committed inadvertently? Although he thought for a long time he found no answer (Achebe 106). Many Ibo don t view what Okonkwo did as a truly evil and punishable act. As the people search for a solution, they are presented with various opinions and predictions from different people. • 22. Emotional Guilt in Nathaniel HawthorneВґs The MinisterВґs... Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Minister s Black Veil is a story of guilt, humility, sin, hypocrisy, love, compounded emotional stability and trials of life. It is a work of gothic literary art that describes the complexity of emotions and the psychological give and take that takes place when processing and dealing with any human emotion. The gothic writing style Hawthorne uses in The Minister s Black Veilmakes it easy for him to focus on one main emotion: guilt. Hawthorne is no stranger to guilt, a huge reason why he discusses its nature so much. The Hawthorne families, formally known as Hathorne, were involved in the Salem Witch Trials and have carried the shameand guilt of their families decisions through generations. Throughout this story,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hooper. The use of a minister as the main character is especially significant throughout this gothic story. In literary symbolism, a minister is applied as a symbol of light, happiness and peace. Hawthorne takes this symbol and instead transforms Hooper into a representation of distress and obscurity. The rumor Our parson has gone mad! (2432), becomes the general consensus of the surrounding community. In this specific condemnation Hawthorne skillfully uses the word mad in this sentence to portray various contexts. Firstly, the word mad is used to describe the mental state of the Minister but it is also applied to depiction of the condition concerning the community s sense of ordinariness. This coincides with the public s view that the Minister has become deranged because they assume that he is hiding his identity from the community. Secondly, the connotation of the word mad is that the community is slowly going mad because of the lack of knowledge of what is happening with Mr. Hooper. Hawthorne also introduces a personal response from one of the public that reads: ...I would not be alone with him for the world (2433), which describes the mistrust of their minister that, in turn, is influencing them to become mad . Contrasts between Zeffirelli and Luhrmann s Romeo and Juliet There are many differences, large and small, between Zeffirelli and Luhrmann s version of Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet. After seeing the first scene of both of these films, some notable contrasts became clear. The props used in both films differ greatly, in the 1967 version, very dated costumes were used, it looked like the director wanted a medieval style to be shown in the film judging by the costumes and props used. Real swords were drawn by the Capulet s and the Montague s as the play suggests but the fighting seemed quite unbelievable to a modern day viewer as did some of the stalls used in the small market surroundings.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The scenery in each play also differs greatly; the 1967 version is set in a medieval village with castles and a small market. Again its age shows as the buildings and backdrops look quite fake against the modern scenery in the 1997 film. Good lighting is used in the older film but again the newer one has realistic effects and buildings and overall has better quality scenery. In both films, certain lines are missed out or changed slightly; I think the language used is basically the same but in the market it was hard at times to hear what exactly was being said over all the noise of the villagers. Although Luhrmann did a good job of bringing modern props into the film, the language used in play sounded odd coming from modern people, dressed in modern clothes at a petrol station. So I think the older film did a better job with the language despite the hearing difficulty in some parts. The Acting quality was good in both films, but I found the style in the early 1967 version was boring and the fight scenes were slightly unbelievable. The 1997 version was more exciting and kept u interested but there wasn t really much between the two films in the quality of acting. Finally I looked at the different camera techniques used, it was interesting to see that both plays had shots of the legs or shoes of one of the families, Zeffirelli shot ... The slain Lamb stands on Mount Zion, the place where God himself dwells, while the Beast only stands upon the sands of the sea (Joel 2:32 and Isaiah 2:2). The 144,000 that are with God most likely stand for the whole church of JesusChrist, the same people in Revelation 7:4. This would not be talking about a spiritually elite people, however, and the people are in contrast with those who whored themselves out to the beast on earth. Those who have worshipped the beast and received the mark on their hands or heads now must drink the wine of the wrath of God, a fit punishment for the crimes that they committed against God. This demonstrates the eye for an eye principle, where those who worshipped the beast are subject to due torment, such as in Psalm 60:3 and Psalm 75:8. The Greek used here to describe God s anger, orgД“, is translated indignation. This denotes the kind of anger that rises out of a settled disposition, an accurate description of the wrath of God. l This wine is full strength as it is not broken down in any way, and the torment itself is with fire and sulfur, a symbol of judgment upon those who are unbelievers. Due to prescribed traditional gender roles, the concept of motherhood has historically been latent in the concept womanhood, in that a woman s ability to reproduce was seen to be an inherent part of her identity. Thus there existed societal pressures not only for women to become mothers, but to fit into the impossible standard of being the perfect mother. The MSP s were elected under PR system, called Additional Member System. 3.There are two types of electoral systems which are First Past the Post (FPTP) and Proportional Representation (PR). FPTP is used to elect the MPs to gain seats in the UK parliament. The one who gets the majority of the votes wins. PR is a form of an electoral system. This decides the fact that, on the basis of the number of votes that have been made, must correspond on the seats they will receive. This ensures that the votes are all counted for. There are different types of systems under PR too such as, STV and AMS The advantages of FPTP are that it is easily understood by voter when they are placing a vote. This is because it is simple and easy to use. This means that the candidate who gets the most votes wins and they only have to put a cross next to the candidate of their choice which keeps it very simple. Another advantage is that the results of the elections are produced very quickly. The votes are counted for each of the candidates in a constituency and whoever gets the most votes wins. This is a reasonably quick process with the whole election results getting counted the next day. One disadvantage of using the FPTP system is that it does not produce a proportional result. This means that the % of votes received using FPTP does not compare with the % of seats gained. This is unfair and means that the winners are over represented. Another disadvantage of FPTP is that it can result in a lot of wasted votes. This means that as it is the person with the most votes that wins, all the other votes are discarded, and individuals do not have their votes heard. An advantage of PR is that, no votes are wasted, unlike FPTP. All the votes under PR system are counted and taken into consideration. It is more proportional as the number of seats do reflect on the number of votes that were put in for each party. Another advantage is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. Molecular and Cellular Behavior Signal transduction pathways link signal reception with cellular response Signal transduction pathways regulate what occurs in, between, and amid individual cells. They are incredibly crucial because they initiate large responses beginning with a single signal. These chemical signals are called ligands that enter the cell either through active or passive transport. If the ligand is small and nonpolar (such as nitric oxide, oxygen gas, and carbon dioxide), then it will simply diffuse through the cell membrane and will attach to an intracellular receptor. However, if the ligand does not fit into this category it will attach to a membrane receptor. These ligands are specific to each receptor. This ensures that no ligand will bind to an incorrect receptor. Once a receptor is bound, a signal is transduced in a way that the cell can acknowledge it. Signal transduction pathways will fundamentally affect gene expression, change enzyme or protein activity, and possibly cell death. Membrane Receptors Membrane receptors span the membrane of the cell. Since hydrophilic molecules cannot simply diffuse through the cells to send a signal to the cell, they must attach to these receptors to be able to send a signal inside the cell. In one year, the U.S. coal industry produces nearly 2,200 times as much solid waste as the U.S. nuclear industry has produced in more than four decades (Bryce 261). Emissions coming out of an internal combustion engine are produced at the car and that is where people inhale them. Fuel burning internal combustion engines that power conventional vehicles emit carbon dioxide and fine particulate matter including acids, organic chemicals as well as dust and soil; this pollution has been linked to respiratory and heart problems and cancer (Park). With an electric car those same emissions are being released at a power plant while the car is being driven somewhere else. This has given the illusion that driving an electric vehicle is ... • 42. The Benefits Of Technology In Education According to Pathways, if a child can t read at grade level by the fourth grade he or she is unlikely to ever catch up. However, growing up in a world full of technology in high tech classrooms, children are able to have an advantage in learning. Schools and teachers are involving technology in their student s school work and everyday tasks. As they grow older, the effects in learningvary for each individual, especially in their adult years. Some adult jobs involve technology which affects adults in their learning especially if they grew up without it. Living in the 21st century, there are pros and cons of how technology can help you or someone not only learn, but also use it for literary reasons. According to our survey, 95.2% individuals grew up with television in which helped them have a basis on learning such as Dora the Explorer, Blue s Clues, and Sesame Street. Kids basically learned colors, alphabets, and numbers in a fun way watching their favorite characters on screen. Also in our first source, a man named K. Ciampa did a study to prove the fact that developing comprehension skills, vocabulary, and complex thinking is an essential starting factor for elementary kids. Teachers are then challenged to find ways to encourage their students to not only continue reading but to become stronger readers. He states that incorporating reading within technology engages the students more and affects their progress in their reading (Ciampa). Nowadays, teachers are using and ... • 43. The Different Types of Thalassemia and How is Diagnosed Thalassemia is basically a name for similar groups of inherited blood diseases that involve missing or abnormal genes regarding the protein in hemoglobin which is the red blood cells that carry oxygen throughout the body. I will discuss the different types of Thalassemia, how Thalassemia is diagnosed, and the treatments available. I will also discuss the complications and side effects of the treatments, the disease s causes and effects, and how it is more dominant in some parts of the world than others. Thalassemiais a blood disorder which means the body makes fewer healthy red blood cells and less hemoglobin. Hemoglobin is a protein that carries oxygen throughout the body and having less hemoglobin leads to anemia. Alpha globin and beta... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Abnormalities on one or both of the genes cause the disorder. The strength of the condition is determined by the damage of the mutation gene in the body and the amount of beta globin genes that carry a mutation called Thalassemia minor, which is also known by a Thalassemia trait. The Thalassemia trait is caused by a missing or abnormality on only one beta globin gene. Diseased individuals generally have no symptoms, though some may develop a mild anemia. However, they can pass the abnormal gene to their children. Thalassemia Intermediate is when both beta globin genes become mutated. These gene abnormalities are less dangerous than Thalassemia major gene abnormalities mostly. These individuals usually have mild to moderate anemia and they develop some of the complications seen in Thalassemia major, such as bone abnormalities or an enlarged spleen. Many affected people require more frequent blood transfusions in order to reduce the risk of complications. Thalassemia major is arguably the most severe form and is the product of damaging mutations on both beta globin protein genes. It also is commonly known by Cooley s anemia, named after the doctor who first identified it in 1925. Most affected individuals appear healthy at birth. However, during the first year or two of life, they become have a poor appetite and become pale. They do not grow ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
