Ocean Surface Current Simulation
OSCURS, or the Ocean Surface Current Simulator, created by Jim Ingraham to improve and cut down
the time needed to calculate and compile necessary data for the ocean currents. The original thought
behind the simulation was to track down varies salmon species and their spawn locations at the North
Pacifics. Fisheries needed more data and analysis to track down the salmons, and the best ways are by
water salinity and temperature. By compiling the data of how the salmons swim along the ocean
currents, it was a job for OSCURS to predict the locations. OSCURS allow oceanography calculations
to be done with speed and high accuracy, which enable more advanced level of techniques of
observing the ocean currents. OSCURS wasn t only useful for the snarks ... Show more content on

Ebbesmeyer raises questions include understanding how do all sorts of drifters ended up separated by
the same categories at different beaches. By now, Ebbesmeyer has a good understanding about
OSCURS and know that it will be the go to program whenever a drifter related question comes up. By
recognizing that each drifter is varies by sizes, the wind that blows upon the drifter, the deflection
angle of the drifter can contribute heavily to where it possibly can end up or the amount of time it will
require for the drifter to land. The hockey glove spill in 1994 is a great example of why wind factors
and deflection angle matters. OSCURS can only be so accurate when the programs runs on the
controllable data such as weather, direction of currents, and locations of spillage, but uncontrollable
factors like wind and the drifter floating angles can create small differences in the calculation that
leads to errors as well. Because of the glove floatation with fingers floating upward, they travel 20
percent quicker than flotsams like shoes or sneakers, as well as left or right sided gloves can drift
separately on different currents, ending up on different locations. From this spillage, OSCURS showed
Ebbesmeyer an interesting result of how same drifter can still be vary and sort by the ocean currents
even at the slightest matter such as

Jackie Robinson Uprightness
In the closing paragraph of the piece, Jackie Robinson pronounces how he believes in humanity, man s
rectitude, and the morality of a liberated country. These qualities constitute the essence of
righteousness. Uprightness is the property of being morally right or justifiable. Within this
characteristic, society relies on fairness, independence, and justice. To correlate to the composition,
Jackie Robinson struggled for equality and for freedom of his race. African Americans were never
allowed to engage in the majors before Robinson came to the plate. Therefore, he was able to open up
a door of possibility for the lower class and brought a sense of optimism and determination. He strived
for what he considered morally right and he concluded that

Astronauts and the Effects of Space
Astronauts and the Effects of Space Space, an unknown and endless abyss full of mystery and wonder.
A beautiful domicile that, as humans, peaks our curiosity. As the saying goes, curiosity killed the cat ,
when it comes to traveling to space, humans are slowly dying from their curiosity. Space is a
dangerous place, full of mental and physical altering effects. Astronauts, the deep sea divers of space,
must train for years to get use to the effects of space. Space is virtually the exact opposite than the
home we know as Earth. Humans, along with all organisms on Earth, were created on Earth for Earth
and when we dare explore a place without the same environment, we are asking for complications.
When a human is exposed to the vacuum of space, we die within minutes. Over the years scientists
have developed technologies that help protect us against the deadly features of space, but in reality it
only shields us from about fifty percent of all of the harmful effects. Weightlessness changes us
physically, while isolation alters us mentally. Space changes the life of any human including the way
we travel from place to place, our sleeping and eating habits, and the amount of exercise needed.
Traveling to space has many effects on humans both mentally and physically, which is why they
endure intensive training and need technology to survive, but even so, die slowly in its clutches.
The Vacuum of Space In the vacuum of space, excluding the technology that shields us, no organism

Why the British Troops Were Sent into Northern Ireland in 1969
In 1969 British Troops were sent into Ireland because Irish police could no longer cope with the
violence between the Unionist Protestant population and the Catholic Nationist population. The events
that meant it was necessary for British troops to be sent in stretch back a long way. This essay presents
the main long term and short term explanations as to why troops were needed.
The tensions between Catholic and Protestant citizens had been mounting for many years. During the
sixteenth century there was a lot of rivalry between the Catholic Church and Protestants and when
King Henry VIII broke away from the Pope and became Protestant, ... Show more content on

Many poor Protestant and Catholic farmers and citizens were swayed towards nationalism between
1845 and 1851 when Ireland suffered from a tragic famine in which many people died. Both the
English and Catholic churches and many local charities rushed in to help, yet English aid was not very
helpful and inadequate to the large Irish population. Many of the Irish emigrated and England s rule
over Ireland was questioned. With religious and historical conflicts the two communities found it very
difficult to reach an understanding and an agreement as to what they both wanted.
Many Irish people who had immigrated to America supported home rule of Ireland, many Irish and
not just Catholics but a few rich Protestant land owners who believed they could govern Ireland and
tenant farmers also supported this idea as the president would help them buy the land they farmed.
Others, mainly Protestants thought this would be a bad idea because being part of England they have a
share in the empire, the United Kingdom and have an economic income from England. The Unionists
wanted to stay with England because they too were Protestants and were afraid the Catholic Church
would take over if Ireland was independent, the Nationalists didn t want to be ruled by protestant.
Without the United Kingdom they could be an island with little support. Each group of people wanted

Foot Reflexology Research Papers
Reflexology, also known as Zone Therapy, is a type of complementary and alternative medicine
(CAM). It is purported to treat ailments by stimulating regions of the hands, ears and feet that are
believed to correspond to other parts of the body in need of healing (Butler, 2012). Foot Reflexology
in particular has ancient roots, and while there are virtually no scientific studies that support its
legitimacy as a cure for illness, there is much anecdotal support for its ability to relieve stress and
bring pain relief to its patients. Because a person s state of health involves not only physical, but also
social and mental well being (World, 2017), the perception that Foot Reflexology is beneficial to
healing is a factor that should not be overlooked. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Balanced Scorecard

BSOP 588 Managing Quality
Professor Robert Lee
February 8, 2014
Introduction Performance management systems are often designed to enable organizations to plan,
measure and control their performance, so that decisions, resources and activities can be better aligned
with business strategies to achieve desired results and create shareholder value. The Balanced
Scorecard is a performance tool using financial and nonfinancial measures. It provides an organization
with ways to develop and evaluate strategic objectives and goals. For the past two decades, the
Balanced Scorecard (BSC) has been proposed as an integrated framework for the implementation of ...

Cost associated with the orientation and training of a new employee as well as the cost associated with
employee separation can have an effect on the bottom line.
Advantages and Disadvantages of Using a Balanced Scorecard Some organizations have a difficult
time establishing a process that can translate its strategic vision into concrete goals and actions. There
are clearly some beneficial advantages to applying the balanced scorecard approach. Some of these
benefits include gaining a cross organizational team that will open channels of communications. The
company will have enthusiastic people who are focused on carrying out the organization s mission and
commitment to quality. Also, the company will gain a unique competitive advantage relating to reduce
time frames, improved decisions and better solutions. Most importantly, initiatives are continually
measured and evaluated against industry standards. There can be some disadvantages as well. The
balanced scorecard takes a lot of planning and forethought. Defining clearly stated objectives and
setting goals are crucial to the process. There can be resistance from employees or even management.
Some individuals may see the implementation as a threat or indication of a lack of performance on
their part. While the balanced scorecard gives an extensive overview of the organization s
performance, it does not give recommendations regarding how to resolve discovered

The Generation Of Today s Generation
It is no secret that today s generation is the most technologically advanced in the history of the human
race, and it is a common misconception that ours is the supreme generation because of this. In
contrast, people see the low tech generation that came long before ourss as disconnected and as less
important than the current generation. This could not be farther from the truth. Our grandparents
generation may have endured different schooling and housing, and may have different mindsets than
ours, but this in no way makes them irrelevant or inadequate. These people possess a wealth of
knowledge and wisdom that we of the younger generation must not only acquire, but put into practice
if we ever plan to improve the gilded generation that we have become. Children of today s generation
attend not only kindergarten, but pre school and even some school prior to pre school. The notion that
the younger children begin to learn, the more they can learn, drives many parents to push their kids to
study and be strong academically. This is a stark contrast to the students of our grandparents
generation, who began their academic careers in the first grade with parents who were more focused
on their ability to work. Not only the age at which a student begins school differs between these
generations, so does the age where the majority of people halt their education. Where an associate s
degree today is the minimum for someone wishing to attain a stable respectably paying career, the

Diction In Emily Dickinson s Hope Is The Thing With Feathers
Hope is the Thing with Feathers is a poem that demonstrates hope as something wonderful and greatly
underappreciated that resides within an individual s soul. Emily Dickinson conveys this theme through
her use of multiple literary devices, predominantly diction, metaphor and imagery. Emily Dickinson s
use of diction throughout the poem is an important element that helps the reader understand the central
theme of the poem. In her second stanza she writes, And sweetest in the Gale is heard (Line 5). This
functions as a contrast between two different sets of sound the word sweetest would make the reader
think of a pleasant sound and the word Gale is a strong, forceful wind that wreaks havoc which makes
the reader think of whooshing air and rumbling. Both of these words make the reader feel as if they
are in the Gale scene in despair but as soon as they hear the sweet sound they become enthralled by it.
In the next line she writes, And sore must be the storm That could abash the little Bird (Lines 6 7). The
Merriam Webster Dictionary defines the word sore as attended by difficulties, hardship, or exertion ,
storm is defined as a disturbance of the atmosphere marked by wind and usually by rain, snow, hail,
sleet, or thunder and lightning and the word abash is defined as to destroy the self possession or self
confidence of (someone); to disconcert . By continuing her use of words relating to forces in nature
she shows that only something exceptionally

Rhetorical Analysis Of Speech To The Virginia Convention...
Patrick Henry, a representative of a frontier region in Virginia, in his Speech to the Virginia
Convention warns the representatives of the Virginia Convention that based on their previous feud, the
British have shown that they are not ones to be trusted. At the time of the speech, the British had
offered the colonist a deal to relieve taxes on the condition that they will fully support British rule and
will contribute to the maintenance of English troops. Within the speech, Henry reminds the
representative of Britain s past tyrannical behavior and remarks on the past treatment they received
prior to the time of the Convention. Along with an exasperated and satirical tone, Henry utilizes
rhetorical appeals to persuade the representatives of the Virginia Convention to not accept Britain s
deal and to instead take up arms against them. Henry opens up his speech using ethical appeals,
establishing credibility and showing his values as a representative. Before going on to explain his take
on the situation, Henry first acknowledges the opinions of the representative, knowing that his speech
can lead to some extent of controversy. He states, I hope that it will not be thought disrespectful to
those gentlemen, if, as entertaining as I do, opinions of a character very opposite to theirs, I shall
speak forth my sentiments freely and without reserve (Henry). By first acknowledging the opinions of
the representatives, Henry establishes himself as a considerate person, and shows that although he has
strong opinions of the situations, he still will respect the decisions and opinions of the representatives.
The audience is then lead to fully look into his idea as a viable option, as he shows strong moral
character. Continuing on, Henry goes forth to show his dedication for the country, explaining that, For
my part, whatever anguish of spirit it may cost, I am willing to know the worst and to provide for it.
So by showing his willingness of sacrificing his happiness for the sake of the country, Henry displays
to the representative that his priorities will always lie with America first; thus, this leads the
representatives to fully entrust Henry as he shows that he will always do what s best for the country as
he cares

Self harm may be used to manage pain from an earlier life experience over which the person had no
control such as physical or emotional abuse. While not every client will use self harming behaviors to
deal with emotional pain, I feel that the knowledge of these behaviors will be important in the field of
helper that I am aspiring to work in. Self harm can also be called self injury, self inflicted violence, or
self injurious behaviors. These names refer to a spectrum of behaviors where injuries are self inflicted.
Self mutilation can also be used to describe these behaviors but this term can be offensive. In the
Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders self harm is a symptom of borderline
personality disorder only and does not have a diagnostic criteria. Not everyone who self harms suffers
from a recognized form of mental disorder, but many people who have been diagnosed have a higher
risk of self harming. Whether I chose to work in the field of social work or go on and work in a
psychiatry field I will have clients who suffer from mental illnesses and the more I can know about
their suffering and symptoms will help me to be better in my chosen field. I want to be able to do
whatever I can to empathize and understand about the ways my clients are suffering. Suicide is not the

people were quick to make fun of him. According to ABC news, many important companies such such

Miss Julie by Strindberg and Medea by Euripides explore the theme of power struggle. Julie, the
Count s daughter, was raised by a mother who hated men; Strindberg hence presents a confused
character who struggles with her sexual desire for men juxtaposing with her need to dominate them.
She feels compelled to use her social status when dealing with Jean. Medea, on the other hand, is
presented as a brave, unpredictable, almost barbaric woman of extremes; she has committed several
crimes on her husband s behalf. Medea is constantly associated with images of extreme passion be it
love, hatred or rage, and it is through the expression of these extremes that the audience becomes

This fluctuation of her need for and rejection of Jean may be indicative of insecurity and loss resulting
from her traumatic upbringing and again, having been rejected by one of her social class; this could
account for her need to regain power.
Medea s irrational behaviour is also due to her loss of power and control caused by her husband,
Jason, who abandoned her and married Glauce, princess of Corinth. The Nurse explains this in her
opening speech; Medea rages at her loss of honour [6]. Medea declares that Jason s betrayal comes at
the expense of her social status, home, dignity, and security; she claims to be alone...stateless,
dishonored by (my) husband [7]Medea s fury knows no limit as evidenced when she mentions, Cursed
boys, I wish you dead, your father too 3 in line 103; she is determined to seek revenge whatever the
cost, and revenge is the murder her and Jason s sons. Because they are precious to Jason, she will
deprive him of them and resultantly destroy and triumph over him. She has all the means to carry out
her hideous crime with such deadly poisons [8]. Medea despises Jason s ingratitude that seems to have
forgotten that she murdered her brother and was involved in the murder of Pelias for Jason s benefit.

If you know anything about technology and the biggest companies out there, then you have definitely

Film Techniques In The Quiet American
The Quiet American uses a wide range of film techniques to tell a compelling and enjoyable narrative,
even the dialogue is a little bit choppy at times. In retrospect, some of these film techniques were
highly successful while others were incredibly detrimental to the motion picture. Perhaps the most
noticeable film technique the movie used, and therefore perhaps the most debatable, is the immense
foreshadowing that takes place at the beginning of the movie. In the first five minutes of the film, the
audience already knows that one of the main characters will be stabbed to death. Although this does
not make reaching the end of the movie impossible, the movie would have no doubtingly had a much
greater hangover effect had Pyle s death been a complete surprise. On the flipside, the scenes in The
Quiet American were diverse and well produced. For example, the explosions in the movie did not
feel out of place (AKA Michael Bay ish). Also, there is a huge difference between the battlefields of
the north compared to Saigon in the south. As a result, the movie does an excellent job of
encapsulating the massive difference between the north s brutality and the south s beauty. ... Show

major turning point against the French, but I do not remember there being an unrestricted massacre of

when historically the French were severely defeated as the North celebrated a major victory.
Nevertheless, the movie s focus seemed to be more about the motives of the individual characters and
what they represented by their actions rather than historical accuracy. In contrast, Indochine seemed to

The Causes And Effects Of Stress In High School Students
Every year, over 1.2 million students drop out of high school in the United States alone. Stress is the
most important factor in why students give up on school. Being a recent graduate from high school, I
clearly understand exactly how the many components of high school can be stressful. There are many
causes and effects of stress on young high school students. The homework load on students can cause
stress, Time management is a factor if stress, and Peer pressure is a big cause of stress for high school
students. The stress on students in high school can greatly affect their academic performance, it will
eventually affect their attitude, and it s going to have a great effect on their mental and physical health.
In the next few paragraphs, I will be explaining the causes of stress on high school students.
Among many students in High school, the homework load is a cause of stress. According to the
National Association of Education, a student should be assigned no more than 10 minutes of
homework per grade level per night. Meaning a 1st grader should only have 10 minutes of homework
while a 12th grader has 120 minutes of homework each night. On average, high school students are
required to take 7 9 classes sometimes daily per week. The amount of homework given to these
students sometimes doubles or even triples the recommended amount of homework.
A student s time management can cause stress. Deadlines are the things that motivate us to get things
done. But so many deadlines

A Laboratory Report on Body Composition
This is a laboratory report on measuring body composition. The aim of the laboratory report was to
compare two different field methods skinfolds and bioimpedance analysis to measure body
composition and evaluate the most reliable doubly indirect method to measure body composition. A
number of studies such as Kitano,T have shown a strong correlation between skinfold and
bioelectrical impedance analysis and tend to have an average body fat difference of less than 0.6.
Body composition is a combination of numerous components these are: Fat mass, fat free mass,
Adipose tissue mass, Lean body mass and relative body fat. Fat mass is defined as all the extractable
lipids from adipose and other tissue. Fat free mass is all the left over chemicals and tissues, including
water, muscle, bone, connective tissue and internal organs. Adipose tissue mass are connective tissue
that work as the major storage site for fat. Lean body mass is everything in the body apart from body
fat. Lean body mass includes organs, blood, bones, muscles and skin. Relative body fat is the ratio
between fat mass and total body mass. Body composition is measured in many ways. Anthropometry
refers to human body composition measurement. The most accurate and direct form of measuring
body composition is cadaver dissection which involves dissecting a dead human body and determining
the fat percentage. In vivo or indirect, doubly indirect methods do not measure body composition
directly, however predict it from

A Comparison of Corrupt Kings in Shakespeare s Henry IV...
A successful monarchy relies upon a stable leader who is concerned with the satisfaction of those he
rules over. Henry Bolingbroke the IV in Shakespeare s Henry the IV Part I follows a trend set by his
predecessor in Richard II of self indulgence and neglect of his kingdom. These leaders worry about
the possibility of losing their kingdom or their soldiers to other nobles who were also concerned more
with obtaining a higher position rather than governing. The king must also be wary of his own life,
something that was once revered and guarded closely by other nobles. Wars once fought for gaining or
protecting land are overshadowed by personal battles fighting for the position of king.
Henry proved himself a powerful and fearless leader ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unfortunately, Gaunt would not have been much more satisfied with Richard s replacement, Henry.
Raising a child is always a challenging and time consuming task, and raising a prince is even more
difficult. Henry puts his leadership aside to focus his efforts upon preventing Prince Hal from absolute
corruption or even betrayal. Hal enjoys the company of an unruly thief, the drunkard John Falstaff, as
well as several other less respectable persons. Henry is more realistic and rational than Richard, and
he is able to see that his position is not a good one. He may fear that he is a bad example for his son,
for he too was a robber when he stole the throne. He fears that his son will ruin his image as king or
even assist in overthrowing him;
Why, Harry, do I tell thee of my foes, / Which are my nearest and dearest enemy? / Thou that art like

Percy s pay, / to dog his hells, and curtys at his frowns, / To show how much thou art degenerate.
(Henry, III, ii, 127 133).

he again puts his responsibilities as king aside to assist his son in battling personal foes. Hal becomes
the prodigal son; however, the

A young fellow is cutting kindling with a buzz saw in New England. Close to the end of the day, the
kid s sister reports that it is time for supper and, out of exhilaration, the kid unintentionally cuts his
hand with the saw. He asks his sister not to enable the specialist to cut away the hand yet deep down
understands that he has effectively lost a great deal of blood to survive. The boy passes away while
under anesthesia, and everybody backpedals to work. Around 1916 World War I was in progress and a
lot of unprepared children had to take the duties of the adults to help out with the households. Frost
utilizes the strategy of personification to significantly impact in this poem. The buzz saw, however; a
lifeless question is depicted as a discerning being, forcefully growling and rattling as it does its work.
At the point when the sister makes the supper declaration, the saw indicates that it has its very own
psyche by jumping out of the boy s hand in exhilaration. Frost declines to lay fault for the damage on
the boy, who is a young child on the most fundamental level. In spite of faulting the saw, Frost accuses
the grown ups at the scene for not interceding and advising the kid to throw in the towel before the
mischance happened. Had the kid got an early reason from the workday, he would have refrained from
removing his hand and would have been spared from death. Besides, an insignificant half hour break
from his employment would have enabled the kid to recapture some portion of his adolescence, if just
for a minute. Frost s accentuation on the boy s lack of involvement and blamelessness in this
circumstance is especially noteworthy with regards to the day and age. Subsequent to moving to
England with his family, Frost was compelled to come back to America as a result of the onset of
World War I in 1915, an occasion that would devastate the lives of numerous pure young men. In view
of that, this poem can be perused as an investigation of the world occasions that constrained young
men to abandon their childhoods and at last be decimated by conditions outside their ability to control.
Most adolescents and young people, both young men and young ladies, left primary schools where

A Presentation Of The Special Operation
This is a presentation of the Special Operation (SO) Imperatives displayed in character situations
within The Ugly American. I have also compared and contrasted my personal experiences with these
situations. Throughout this process, I analyzed and assessed not only the similarities and differences
between the character situations and the SO Imperatives, but I evaluated and chose experiences that
meant something to my development as a man and Green Beret. As a man who believes in being
authentic, I reflected on my deployment experiences in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Qatar to analyze my
choices. I call this presentation my growth through experience because I will never develop into the
man I want to be unless I develop into the man I need to be. My main topics will center around three
situations in the book. The first topic will center on Ruth Jyoti as she speaks to Joseph Rivers about
U.S. foreign policy in Setkya. The second topic will center on Ambassador Macwhites discussion with
the Honorable Li Pang. The third topic will center on the Martin family when U Maung Swe spoke
about improving the prestige of America in Southeast Asia. I will use my experiences of my times in
Iraq, Afghanistan, and Qatar as examples. Although every instance of this book can derive from
understanding or not understanding the operational environment, my points will explore how my team
and I applied them in modern operations. Ruth Jyoti had the uncanny ability to understand the

Examples Of Confirmation Bias
CASE STUDY: AVOID THINKING TRAPS KIMBERLY BLACKBURN WESTERN KENTUCKY
UNIVERSITY What has become known as Confirmation bias is the tendency people have to embrace
information that supports their beliefs and reject information that contradicts them (Kolbert, 2017).
The crash of Comair Flight 5191 in Lexington Kentucky in 2006 due to pilot error is a good example
of confirmation bias. It is believed the flight crew convinced themselves they were on the right
runway due runway lights that they were told were unserviceable in a previous flight. On the flight s
voice recorder, the pilots never appeared confused (Ortiz, Patton, Ku, 2007). It was a classic example
of confirmation bias, the act of only seeing evidence supporting their preconceptions, investigators
said (Ortiz, Patton, Ku, 2007). Confirmation bias is our feeling to choose the information that
confirms what we belief or the ideas we have on a subject. Sometimes this can lead us to misjudge or
make wrong decisions. The pilots of flight 5191 out of Lexington airport let their belief of the
situation make them make the wrong decision and not confirm they were on the right runway. Pilots
Clay and Polehinke ignored the warning signs of the unlit runway, too short runway and their
distracted conversation during the pre flight time. To avoid confirmation bias one has to be aware of
its existence. Mindfulness and emotional intelligence can both be of help in avoiding confirmation
bias

Muscular Dystrophy And Related Diseases
Muscular Dystrophy in Pediatric Patients
A muscular dystrophy is a group of diseases that is associated with progressive weakness and loss of
an individual s muscle mass. The condition causes the abnormal genes to interfere with the production
of proteins needed to form healthy muscles. There is no medical cure for muscular dystrophy and
related diseases, but strategies such as medication and therapy are used to manage the symptoms and
slow the course of the disease. There are more than 30 types of muscular dystrophy, and the difference
is based on the genes that cause it, the age when the symptoms appear first, how quickly the disease
progresses and the muscles it affects (Tecklin, 2015).

A wider base of support along with ITB contractures is commonly associated with the disease.
Functional activities may still be conserve until the age of 6 or 7, by the age of 9 10 a rapidly decline
of functional activities is observable. On the other hand Becker muscular dystrophy is the mildest
version of the muscular conditions, individuals can maintain independent ambulation until the age of
16. Etiology for BMD its very similar to DDM, however dystrophin production its sufficient with
good quantity and quality which will allow the breakdown to occur at slower rate than DDM.
Symptoms for BMD its usually present between the age of 5 and 15, however the onset is variable,
patients usually live until their fourth decade (Tecklin, 2015). Other clinical presentation associated
with both conditions are Cardiac, Gastrointestinal, Cognitive, and Respiratory involvement.
Since the decline in motor activities over the course of the disease cannot be avoided, it is important to
use functional assessment scales for use in clinical follow up, establishment of functional diagnosis
and therapeutic decisions making. Several functional scales exist for the assessment of individuals
with diseases associated with neuromuscular. Subsequently, the Vignos scale (VS) lays more focus on
functional activities involving the lower limbs

Irish American Immigrants In The Film Gangs Of New York
Gangs of New York, directed by Martin Scorsese, vividly depicts the experience Irish American
immigrants endured when first arriving to New York. This film is a look at the intolerance towards
Irish immigrants, the Civil War, and African Americans in the Five Points neighborhood. The tension
and discord amongst the citizens of New York from the Five Points would thrive as gangs fought for
respect, land, and power. The authenticity of the films starts with its depiction of Five Points. In the
mid 19 century Five Points was a dangerously vicious neighborhood, and through many bloody
battles, Irish immigrants fought with other immigrants to find their place on the social ladder. The

Personal Happiness Essay
To gain happiness, people believe that they should have to change everything about themselves.
Meanwhile, when they change themselves they would eventually go back to their old habits. It s
imperative that you re happy with yourself and have determination to change for the better. The wrong

the atmosphere. Arthur Conan Doyle s character, Sherlock Holmes, lived in Victorian London during
the 19th century. His perception of the streets is portrayed as a dark and isolated environment. The
atmosphere was far from welcoming. The streets were overrun with crime, beggars and prostitutes.

A.C. Doyle reinforces its undesirable presence by describing it as vile . The reader will instantly see
that it is a dirty, eerie place where no one would want to be. It is also personified as lurking which

travel through: the endless succession of sombre and deserted streets This description is effective
because it makes the reader think of the continuous series of streets which have no definite end and

In The Biblical Story Of Cain And Abel, God As The Omnipotent
In the Biblical story of Cain and Abel, God as the omnipotent deity knows that Cain killed Abel. Still,
he asks Cain where is Abel. Cain says a very famous sentence asking God is he is Abel s keeper. To
this, God decides to punish Cain. He says that Cain will be cursed from the earth, which until this
point was Cain s source of living. When Cain would work on earth, it would not give him its strength.
He will be a wanderer and a vagabond from that day. Cain replied that his punishment is greater than
he can bear. Although many can disagree with him, some say that this punishment is not that great,
God did not kill or even punished him in some physical way. But it has to be remembered that in this

This is the greatest punishment, it shows that Cyrus is no God like figure whatsoever and that he is a
human after all, he would repeat the same crime as his son Charles did, he would commit a crime and
then he would feel guilty for it. Somebody told Charles that night that his father is looking for him
with the shotgun and naturally, he hides from him for two weeks, and when he finally return, murder
had sunk back to simple anger and he paid his penalty in overwork and a false theatrical humility
(East of Eden 45). So again, some readers can say that punishment was after all not very serious or
maybe not so rightful, but as the story goes, it is clear that Charles is punished by himself, because
after this incident, he isolates himself even more, his father apparently loves him even less and
Charles is haunted by this forever. David McCright claims that Charles does not have to stand before
God , like Cain had to, but he has to be called to account for his deeds, but it is the God of memory or
conscience (McCright 13). The letters that Charles keeps writing to Adam are proof of this destructive
guilt that he has. Although in those letters he keeps blaming Cyrus for rejecting his gift and he defends
his behavior, he writes that he simply had to take after (East of Eden 48) Adam. Nevertheless he still
feels guilt for what he did and wishes to trade places with Adam. He writes that

1) Define evolution
Evolution refers to change over time as species modifies and separate to produce several offspring
species.
2) Define physical anthropology
Physical anthropology is concerned with the evolution of humans, their origin, diversity, as well as
adaptations to environmental stresses.
Discuss some of the general ways physical anthropologists investigate evolution
Physical anthropologists investigate evolution through various ways in order to give a well
understanding of human evolution and these are relative dating research, theoretical research, fossil
research and environmental research. I will try to expound how each research method is relevant to
anthropological study.
Relative Dating
This method is used to determine the exact age of fossils, artifacts and the earth. This involves,
examining several strata of the crust of the earth to show the time intervals of one layer of rock to
another layer as well as use the layering principle to confirm the series of cultures.
Fluorine dating is a method is centered on the principle that the element fluorine from the soil is
absorbed by fossil bones. The elements fluorine is buried in the soil and therefore the lengthier they
are buried, the bones will have more fluorine. However, this method requires several samples taken
from an immediate location.
Theoretical Research
Evolutionary theory is an important part of physical anthropology as it helps the researchers to have a

Stakeholder Salience
Introduction
Developing a relationship between and across organizations and its stakeholders can be
counterproductive and interdependent to decision making. Globalization effects stakeholder s coalition
building and salience in organizations. It is known as an ongoing process or interrelated events of
increasing movement of services, goods, and capital across national borders (Lawrence Weber 2011).

Implementing and integrating this action plan could lead to a social and economic benefit with their
mission, while collaborating and working together could potentially and successfully increase and
fulfill intended goals.
For example when a particular stakeholder group demand urgent attention to a specific issue, the
importance of the group creates managerial action and creates high salience, which takes a leading
role in decision making toward corporate goals and social responsibility (Mishra Suar, 2010).
Furthermore, in order to achieve established corporate goals, best practice mitigation depends on the
understanding and decision making of the demand and supply chain as well as the interests of the
stakeholders. The success of corporate mitigation relies on the balancing of the wants and needs of the
salience groups.
Globalization affected stakeholder coalition building
Globalization can affect stakeholder coalition building either negatively or positively. Caughlin noted
that the level of communication from the overall result of a stakeholder or group of stakeholder s
significantly influence the relative power and conviction for a particular outcome which will greatly
affect the costs of the decision making process as well as time (Caughlan, 2002). In building a

1776 by David McCullough
Liberty, when it begins to take root, is a plant of rapid growth. This quote in a letter to James Madison,
from George Washington, on March 2nd, 1788, explains that once the push for liberty comes through
and change is made, it is like the snowball effect. At this point of the war, there were constant losses
for the Continental Army they were lacking faith and hope for their liberty. The soldier s enlistments
were also very near to their end and time was going by fast; many were prepared to leave and not

That meant leaving as soon as their enlistments were finished and leaving Washington with fewer
troops. Washington felt that he needed to have another battle while he still had many men and before
the British troops retired for the season of winter until spring (McCullough 267). Since the battle
happened towards the end of their session, the results of the battle highly affected the soldier s
decision to stay or leave. If it wasn t for Trenton, there would never have been a reason to stay in the
army and that would have affected the war in a negative way for the colonies. Our only dependence
now is upon the speedy enlistments of the army. If this fails, the game is pretty near up, (McCullough
269). This quote by Lund Washington explains that the colonies needed as many soldiers and troops as
possible to make their chances of succeeding better. Without the amount of troops that decided to stay
because of the Battle of Trenton, Washington s troops would have been significantly smaller and
would have caused losses in battles. George Washington s tactics and skills when it came to the
Continental army and war were very helpful in the many battles that he led. In Trenton, Washington
planned a sneak attack on the British, in which they had to cross the Delaware River on. Because of
Washington s quick thinking and great army skills allowed the Continental Army to succeed in

A Discussion On Ethics And Law Essay
Enron, a Discussion on Ethics and Law
Leadership s Role in Ethical Dilemma
As documented in a promotional video for Enron, Kenneth Lay states: Enron is a company that deals
with everyone with absolute integrity. We play by all the rules. . . We want people to leave a
transaction with Enron thinking they have been dealt with in the highest possible way, as far as
integrity and truthfulness and really doing our business right. (Enron Vision and Values, 1998, 3:32)
Whereas this message was intended to affirm corporate mindset, Lay s business leadership and
conflict resolution promoted the contrary. In 1985, Kenneth Lay founded Enron Corporation to satisfy
his personal ambition and insight in the deregulation of energy markets. As many entrepreneurs do,
Lay placed a focus on the success and future of his business on the financial performance and growth
rate. Although short term success can be gained by focusing solely on the bottom line, long term
success can only occur by first meeting the requirements of the law and maintaining integrity through
ethical decision making. As you will see, Lay s leadership focus on the priority of enhancing the
bottom line actually trumped his ability to promote ethical and legal decision making for his
organization. This conflict was the root of the problem that promoted individuals in the organization to
make unethical and unlawful decisions on a business level as well as personal level.

Sport hunting is a violent form of recreation that has left countless animals maimed, and orphaned
animals vulnerable to starvation, exposure, and predation. This activity disrupts natural animal
population dynamics and has contributed to the extinction of animal species all over the world,
including the Tasmanian tiger and the great auk.(1,2)
Although less than 5 percent of the U.S. population hunts, hunting is permitted in many wildlife
refuges, national forests, and state parks and on other public lands3 where almost half of all hunters
slaughter and maim millions of animals every year (by some estimates, poachers kill just as many
animals illegally).(4,5) The vast majority of hunters do not kill for subsistence.(6)

Nature Takes Care of Its Own
The delicate balance of ecosystems ensures their own survival if they are left unaltered. Natural
predators help maintain this balance by killing the sickest and weakest individuals. Hunters, however,
kill any animal whose head they would like to hang over the fireplace including large, healthy animals
who are needed to keep the population strong. Elephant poaching is believed to have increased the
number of tuskless animals in Africa, and in Canada, hunting has caused bighorn sheep s horn size to
fall by 25 percent in the last 40 years Nature magazine reports that the effect on the populations
genetics is probably deeper. (20)

very beginning, but as I read on I found that the beginning was the correct placement; it pulled the
reader (me) in, and had me asking, Why wouldn t anything sleep down there? Was it hot? Musty?
Dark? The author describes the cellar as dark, and uses similes, dank as a ditch and, roots ripe as old
bait to describe the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They then go on to describe the rotting roots, the decomposing leaves, the lime, etc. to further the
feeling of disgust when one thinks of such a place. The last two lines threw me for a loop however.
Nothing would give up life: Even the dirt kept breathing a small breath. Suddenly, my thoughts of
disgust transformed to more positive ones. Instead of thinking, Why would anyone allow something to
become so disgusting? , I think about how the leaves and the roots refused to go away. The shoots
continued to hang, low and in the way; the leaves and roots continued to make their presence known
by giving off the strong smell of decomposing matter. After reading the poem, I m still not 100% sure
on what the theme is. There was a shift from negative to positive in the last three lines, and lots of
imagery. Even then the poem still comes across as abstract and slightly vague. The author could be
describing their life; maybe the run down cellar and decaying roots are representations of an unhappy
or dysfunctional childhood. Maybe, in writing this, they are accepting that those memories will never
go away, but they don t define who they are. Or maybe the author is describing a time when they went
to get something from their cellar, and realized how disgusting it was. As always, it s whatever the
reader wants it to

Body Image In The Fashion Industry
The fashion industry
Under society s norms for decades, young women have been put under the pressure and anticipation to
have perfect bodies. That is, thin and curved, beautified by applying pounds of the makeup to their
face but not appear ridiculously overdone. Who s responsible for these standards imposed on young
women? When a young girl picks up the model along the cover of Vogue being called flawless, it s
easy for her to then aspire to be a real life imitation of the photocopy. These companies produce
magazine covers shown with girls images daily. As if keeping the perfect body wasn t hard enough our
culture also forces girls into the forever expanding world of composition, however, body image is a
pressing issue for young women. Advertisements and posters of skinny female models are all over.
Young girls not only could be better but need to be more upright and feel driven to throw the perfect
figure. Moreover, girls are evaluated and oppressed by their physical appearances. With supplements
and apparel designed to enhance a facial expression; social media, magazines, and marketing
campaigns and advertisements add to the burden of perfection. The fashion industry is a prime object
of body image issues, as they believe clothes look better on tall and svelte women. Established on a
survey participated by 13 to 17 year old in the U.S., 90% felt pressured by fashion and media
industries to be skinny , with more than 60% routinely compares themselves to models, while 46%

Characteristics Of The Knight In The Canterbury Tales
Although some knights were depicted as being selfish and careless about others, there were some
knights who were depicted as possessing heroic qualities such as strength, courage, selflessness, and
many more.
The Knight in The Canterbury Tales, by Geoffrey Chaucer, is one example of a knight who possesses
heroic qualities. There was a Knight a most distinguished man, who from the day on which he first
began to ride abroad had followed chivalry, truth, honour, and generousness and courtesy (Chaucer 4).
The Knight is a generous and courteous man and fights with honor and fidelity, as a hero should. The
narrator in The Canterbury Tales also calls the Knight wise and a ... true, perfect gentle knight
(Chaucer 5). Not only was he a gentle Knight, but a strong Knight as well because of the various
battles he participated in. These traits that the Knight possessed that the narrator in The Canterbury
Tales seems to fond over are reminiscent of a true hero. A hero is said to be strong, kind, brave,
selfless, and loyal. The Knight fits this description almost perfectly. The Knight is not the only knight
in the Middle Ages that was depicted as being a hero.
Lancelot, although possessing some antiheroic traits, possessed qualities of a hero as well. In The
Knight of the Cart, at the beginning of Lancelot s quest to save Guinevere, he runs into a dwarf who is
riding the shaft of a cart. He asks the dwarf if he has seen Guinevere at all, but the dwarf does not give
him any information and instead tells him to get in the cart and he will know by morning of what
happened to Guinevere. Riding a cart during those times was not a good thing. The cart was for all
criminals alike, for all traitors and murders... the guilty person was taken and made to mount in the
cart... he had lost all his feudal rights and never heard at court (Troyes 211). At first, Lancelot
hesitated for a couple of seconds, but then he decided to ride in the cart, knowing the repercussions of
doing it. This shows Lancelot as a selfless individual because he was focused on rescuing Guinevere.
Lancelot sacrificed his reputation for Guinevere. By stressing how shameful it is to ride in the cart,
Chrétien thereby stresses how noble it is of Lancelot to so

Self-Realization In The Remains Of The Day
There is a form that an ending can take a form far more subtle and yet more powerful than the typical
happy ending; the ending of true self realization. Men have an insidious way of deceiving themselves
most continue in this self destructive path for their entire lives, but some come to a point where
something strikes them, something that turns their constructed worlds upside down, something that
forces them to be honest with themselves; only when this something strikes them can they come to a
point of true self realization. The main character of The Remains of The Day, Mr. Stevens, is one of
them men to whom this self realization comes. In some roundabout way, even during his time of
blindness, Mr. Stevens is cognizant of this fact even if he does not see its full implications. The theme
of self realization is shown by the character s realization that bantering plays a significant role in the
accumulation of human warmth, and by his realization that the waning years of life are often the most
enjoyable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Stevens comes to see that there is a real joy that can be found in the waning years of one s life. As the
novel s name implies, the story centers around a man coming to grips with old age at first he is
resentful of the limits it puts on him, then he ignores it, then he comes to realize that it is something
that can be enjoyed. The evening of one s life is a time of rest a time when the work has been
completely finished, a time when whatever burdens one has been carrying around can finally be
passed to another. While addressing Mr. Stevens, the man on the pier says: You ve got to enjoy
yourself. The evening s the best part of the day. You ve done your day s work. Now you can put you
feet up and enjoy it. (Ishiguro 244) This statement rings true in Mr. Stevens mind. He comes to see
that there is a real joy in the final relaxation that comes with old age the work has been done and it is
time to enjoy the fruits of your

Sakoku, or the National Seclusion of Japan
Sakoku, or the national seclusion, of Japan by the Tokugawa Iemitsu in the 1630s was one of the most
important periods in Japanese history. Many people perceived that Japan became uniquely unique
because of the Sakoku. However, during the Sakoku, Japan was not complete sealed off from foreign
influences and trades. The national seclusion of Japan is believed by some people that there is only
limited trade with the Dutch and Chinese in Nagasaki. According to Oxford Art Online during the Edo
period, the Bay of Nagasaki is the only port open to overseas trade (Bonnie), which was not true.
During the Sakoku, Japan was not restricted to only the bay in Nagasaki, but Japan had total of four
designated places that allowed foreign contacts. Before the detail of the four areas of foreign relations
during the Sakoku period, the reasons for the Sakoku need to be explained. The widespread of
Christianity in Japan started because of Oda Nobunaga encouraged missionaries to convert many
Japanese to Christians because he wanted to reduce the influence of Buddhist monasteries. However,
his successors did not share the same view. Hideyoshi felt threaten by Christians, especially the
Catholics because of several reasons. One of these reasons was that the Spaniards conquered the
islands of Philippines (Watts). Another reason is that Hideyoshi felt threaten with the concept of
foreign ruler that many Catholics recognized, the Catholic Pope. The tension finally escalated when

Motifs In Creation Myths
In my opinion, 3 of the most common motifs in creation myths are: the creation of humans, step by
step myths, and using parts of a god for a planet. I think these are the few motifs are usually used the
most in the different cultures. Although, these cultures did not know each other or talk they are still
connected by these motifs, along with other things. The creation myths may share some of the same
principles and concepts, but there is also more that they share. These next few paragraphs will explain
why I think that these motifs were used. I will also explain what I think the most used motifs are, and
the cultures that used them.

The Chinese creation myth starts out with an enormous egg containing chaos. The chaos had raged on
the inside of the egg. Yin and Yang, which were swirled together, along with all the other opposites.
Then, the egg burst open and Pan gu jumped out. After coming out of the egg, he then separated yin
and yang and began forming the earth. For about 10,000 years, Pangu grew 10 feet every day, until the
sky came to the point where it was 30,000 miles above ground. When Pan gu had stopped growing, he
then began to hammer out the mountains. Pan gu filled the valley with water to form the great oceans.
He made/created the rivers with his fingers, and he stomped the Earth and dirt down to create flat
land. He had gathered light and, tossed it into the sky so that it could become the stars. After all of
this, Pan gu had grown old and tired (This was about 18,000 years after), he made the world with his
hands; along with forming the basic principles of yin and yang. Pan gu decided to lay down, but once
he laid down, he never rose again. When Pan gu died, his body formed the tallest mountains, his skull
had formed the sky, his hair the flowers and plants, his bones turn to jade and pearls, his arms and his
legs were the four directions. After this, his blood became the rivers, and his breath became the wind.
His voice became the thunder, and both of his eyes became the sun in the

Paparazzi By Giordanna Allassi
Chapter 7 Society s crackling telephone lines were now flooded with rumors flying through like
surges of electricity. Editors, raced to dial their best paparazzi, working in other countries, hearing
echoes of their own voices in the phone lines and long delays before the faint and distant voices came
on the other end saying, I m catching the first flight out of here. The flurry of activity, from the news
of Giordanna Allassi s latest gala, overloaded publications like: Paris Match, Life, and Harper s
Bazaar, with editors licking their lips and rubbing their hands together in anticipation. At last! The star
studded event was nearing and Giordanna was featuring some of the world s richest and best known
celebrities the beautiful, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The word was out! By God, when Giordanna de Barcelo Allassi announced her new skin care line to
the world, the world stood up and listened. Her husband had bankrolled a media blitz that would be
talked about for years, hiring a public relations firm that littered the streets with images of swans with
one word written beneath, Giordanna. As the result, reporters had begun to ask about the mysterious
swans and their relation to the famous model, but it was all kept hush hush. Not one lip revealed that
the gala s theme was based on his wife s new creams for flawless skin and her swanlike neck. She
owned the floor, wearing a Lilly Dache couture gown with her flawless hourglass silhouette in a rich
raspberry red shimmering silk faille dress and her matching eel skinned heels. Her dress featured a
bow nipped waist bodice and a flattering swing skirt that flowed to the floor. It accentuated the pale
color of her milky white skin. Her latest gift from her famous husband, given to her for Mother s Day
a Cartier Ruby and Diamond Parure complimented the gown. The ruby and diamond tiara gave her
elegant sable up do a regal appearance, turning heads. She was as scrumptious as a raspberry crème
brûlée. The San Francisco bureau chief for Paris Match sent a wire to their main office as the headline.

Impacts Of Coal Mining On The Environment
Coal mining can have seriously adverse environmental and related impacts, including interference
with groundwater quantity and quality, land subsidence, impacts on river flows and consequential
impact on other land uses, issues associated with mining wastes disposal, creation of geological
hazards . . . and potential ecological havoc (Bian et al., The Impact of Disposal and Treatment of Coal
Mining Wastes on Environment and Farmland 1). Coal, a commodity that the world depends on as a
vital economic player and energy resource, is extracted from the ground at a very costly price to the
environment. It is a major energy source that provides about 40% of the electricity that the world
consumes, and the consumption of coal has grown dramatically in recent years. Not only is coal a
major energy producer, but it is also a vital player in many countries economies, employing millions
across the world both directly and indirectly. Unfortunately, since coal is so important to the economy
and energy production, there is often little regard for the impacts that it has on the environment when
being extracted. In broad a generalization, coal mining techniques can be broken down into two
categories: surface mining and underground mining (the first involving techniques that stay above
ground and the latter using tunneling). Although environmental implications may vary slightly
between the two methods of coal extraction, there are a number of issues that are the result of both

  • 2. Ocean Surface Current Simulation OSCURS, or the Ocean Surface Current Simulator, created by Jim Ingraham to improve and cut down the time needed to calculate and compile necessary data for the ocean currents. The original thought behind the simulation was to track down varies salmon species and their spawn locations at the North Pacifics. Fisheries needed more data and analysis to track down the salmons, and the best ways are by water salinity and temperature. By compiling the data of how the salmons swim along the ocean currents, it was a job for OSCURS to predict the locations. OSCURS allow oceanography calculations to be done with speed and high accuracy, which enable more advanced level of techniques of observing the ocean currents. OSCURS wasn t only useful for the snarks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ebbesmeyer raises questions include understanding how do all sorts of drifters ended up separated by the same categories at different beaches. By now, Ebbesmeyer has a good understanding about OSCURS and know that it will be the go to program whenever a drifter related question comes up. By recognizing that each drifter is varies by sizes, the wind that blows upon the drifter, the deflection angle of the drifter can contribute heavily to where it possibly can end up or the amount of time it will require for the drifter to land. The hockey glove spill in 1994 is a great example of why wind factors and deflection angle matters. OSCURS can only be so accurate when the programs runs on the controllable data such as weather, direction of currents, and locations of spillage, but uncontrollable factors like wind and the drifter floating angles can create small differences in the calculation that leads to errors as well. Because of the glove floatation with fingers floating upward, they travel 20 percent quicker than flotsams like shoes or sneakers, as well as left or right sided gloves can drift separately on different currents, ending up on different locations. From this spillage, OSCURS showed Ebbesmeyer an interesting result of how same drifter can still be vary and sort by the ocean currents even at the slightest matter such as ... • 3. Jackie Robinson Uprightness In the closing paragraph of the piece, Jackie Robinson pronounces how he believes in humanity, man s rectitude, and the morality of a liberated country. These qualities constitute the essence of righteousness. Uprightness is the property of being morally right or justifiable. Within this characteristic, society relies on fairness, independence, and justice. To correlate to the composition, Jackie Robinson struggled for equality and for freedom of his race. African Americans were never allowed to engage in the majors before Robinson came to the plate. Therefore, he was able to open up a door of possibility for the lower class and brought a sense of optimism and determination. A beautiful domicile that, as humans, peaks our curiosity. As the saying goes, curiosity killed the cat , when it comes to traveling to space, humans are slowly dying from their curiosity. Space is a dangerous place, full of mental and physical altering effects. Astronauts, the deep sea divers of space, must train for years to get use to the effects of space. Space is virtually the exact opposite than the home we know as Earth. Humans, along with all organisms on Earth, were created on Earth for Earth and when we dare explore a place without the same environment, we are asking for complications. When a human is exposed to the vacuum of space, we die within minutes. Over the years scientists have developed technologies that help protect us against the deadly features of space, but in reality it only shields us from about fifty percent of all of the harmful effects. Weightlessness changes us physically, while isolation alters us mentally. Space changes the life of any human including the way we travel from place to place, our sleeping and eating habits, and the amount of exercise needed. Traveling to space has many effects on humans both mentally and physically, which is why they endure intensive training and need technology to survive, but even so, die slowly in its clutches. • 5. Why the British Troops Were Sent into Northern Ireland in... Why the British Troops Were Sent into Northern Ireland in 1969 In 1969 British Troops were sent into Ireland because Irish police could no longer cope with the violence between the Unionist Protestant population and the Catholic Nationist population. The events that meant it was necessary for British troops to be sent in stretch back a long way. This essay presents the main long term and short term explanations as to why troops were needed. The tensions between Catholic and Protestant citizens had been mounting for many years. During the sixteenth century there was a lot of rivalry between the Catholic Church and Protestants and when King Henry VIII broke away from the Pope and became Protestant, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many poor Protestant and Catholic farmers and citizens were swayed towards nationalism between 1845 and 1851 when Ireland suffered from a tragic famine in which many people died. Both the English and Catholic churches and many local charities rushed in to help, yet English aid was not very helpful and inadequate to the large Irish population. Many of the Irish emigrated and England s rule over Ireland was questioned. With religious and historical conflicts the two communities found it very difficult to reach an understanding and an agreement as to what they both wanted. Many Irish people who had immigrated to America supported home rule of Ireland, many Irish and not just Catholics but a few rich Protestant land owners who believed they could govern Ireland and tenant farmers also supported this idea as the president would help them buy the land they farmed. Others, mainly Protestants thought this would be a bad idea because being part of England they have a share in the empire, the United Kingdom and have an economic income from England. The Unionists wanted to stay with England because they too were Protestants and were afraid the Catholic Church would take over if Ireland was independent, the Nationalists didn t want to be ruled by protestant. • 6. Foot Reflexology Research Papers Reflexology, also known as Zone Therapy, is a type of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). It is purported to treat ailments by stimulating regions of the hands, ears and feet that are believed to correspond to other parts of the body in need of healing (Butler, 2012). Foot Reflexology in particular has ancient roots, and while there are virtually no scientific studies that support its legitimacy as a cure for illness, there is much anecdotal support for its ability to relieve stress and bring pain relief to its patients. Because a person s state of health involves not only physical, but also social and mental well being (World, 2017), the perception that Foot Reflexology is beneficial to healing is a factor that should not be overlooked. ... Balanced Scorecard Balanced Scorecard: USPS Keller School of Management BSOP 588 Managing Quality Professor Robert Lee February 8, 2014 Introduction Performance management systems are often designed to enable organizations to plan, measure and control their performance, so that decisions, resources and activities can be better aligned with business strategies to achieve desired results and create shareholder value. There are clearly some beneficial advantages to applying the balanced scorecard approach. Some of these benefits include gaining a cross organizational team that will open channels of communications. The company will have enthusiastic people who are focused on carrying out the organization s mission and commitment to quality. Also, the company will gain a unique competitive advantage relating to reduce time frames, improved decisions and better solutions. Most importantly, initiatives are continually measured and evaluated against industry standards. There can be some disadvantages as well. The balanced scorecard takes a lot of planning and forethought. Defining clearly stated objectives and setting goals are crucial to the process. There can be resistance from employees or even management. Some individuals may see the implementation as a threat or indication of a lack of performance on their part. • 8. The Generation Of Today s Generation It is no secret that today s generation is the most technologically advanced in the history of the human race, and it is a common misconception that ours is the supreme generation because of this. In contrast, people see the low tech generation that came long before ourss as disconnected and as less important than the current generation. This could not be farther from the truth. Our grandparents generation may have endured different schooling and housing, and may have different mindsets than ours, but this in no way makes them irrelevant or inadequate. These people possess a wealth of knowledge and wisdom that we of the younger generation must not only acquire, but put into practice if we ever plan to improve the gilded generation that we have become. Children of today s generation attend not only kindergarten, but pre school and even some school prior to pre school. The notion that the younger children begin to learn, the more they can learn, drives many parents to push their kids to study and be strong academically. This is a stark contrast to the students of our grandparents generation, who began their academic careers in the first grade with parents who were more focused on their ability to work. Not only the age at which a student begins school differs between these generations, so does the age where the majority of people halt their education. • 10. Diction In Emily Dickinson s Hope Is The Thing With Feathers Hope is the Thing with Feathers is a poem that demonstrates hope as something wonderful and greatly underappreciated that resides within an individual s soul. Emily Dickinson conveys this theme through her use of multiple literary devices, predominantly diction, metaphor and imagery. Emily Dickinson s use of diction throughout the poem is an important element that helps the reader understand the central theme of the poem. In her second stanza she writes, And sweetest in the Gale is heard (Line 5). This functions as a contrast between two different sets of sound the word sweetest would make the reader think of a pleasant sound and the word Gale is a strong, forceful wind that wreaks havoc which makes the reader think of whooshing air and rumbling. Both of these words make the reader feel as if they are in the Gale scene in despair but as soon as they hear the sweet sound they become enthralled by it. In the next line she writes, And sore must be the storm That could abash the little Bird (Lines 6 7). The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines the word sore as attended by difficulties, hardship, or exertion , storm is defined as a disturbance of the atmosphere marked by wind and usually by rain, snow, hail, sleet, or thunder and lightning and the word abash is defined as to destroy the self possession or self confidence of (someone); to disconcert . • 11. Rhetorical Analysis Of Speech To The Virginia Convention... Patrick Henry, a representative of a frontier region in Virginia, in his Speech to the Virginia Convention warns the representatives of the Virginia Convention that based on their previous feud, the British have shown that they are not ones to be trusted. At the time of the speech, the British had offered the colonist a deal to relieve taxes on the condition that they will fully support British rule and will contribute to the maintenance of English troops. Within the speech, Henry reminds the representative of Britain s past tyrannical behavior and remarks on the past treatment they received prior to the time of the Convention. Along with an exasperated and satirical tone, Henry utilizes rhetorical appeals to persuade the representatives of the Virginia Convention to not accept Britain s deal and to instead take up arms against them. Henry opens up his speech using ethical appeals, establishing credibility and showing his values as a representative. Before going on to explain his take on the situation, Henry first acknowledges the opinions of the representative, knowing that his speech can lead to some extent of controversy. He states, I hope that it will not be thought disrespectful to those gentlemen, if, as entertaining as I do, opinions of a character very opposite to theirs, I shall speak forth my sentiments freely and without reserve (Henry). By first acknowledging the opinions of the representatives, Henry establishes himself as a considerate person, and shows that although he has strong opinions of the situations, he still will respect the decisions and opinions of the representatives. The audience is then lead to fully look into his idea as a viable option, as he shows strong moral character. Continuing on, Henry goes forth to show his dedication for the country, explaining that, For my part, whatever anguish of spirit it may cost, I am willing to know the worst and to provide for it. So by showing his willingness of sacrificing his happiness for the sake of the country, Henry displays to the representative that his priorities will always lie with America first; thus, this leads the representatives to fully entrust Henry as he shows that he will always do what s best for the country as he cares ... In retrospect, some of these film techniques were highly successful while others were incredibly detrimental to the motion picture. Perhaps the most noticeable film technique the movie used, and therefore perhaps the most debatable, is the immense foreshadowing that takes place at the beginning of the movie. In the first five minutes of the film, the audience already knows that one of the main characters will be stabbed to death. Although this does not make reaching the end of the movie impossible, the movie would have no doubtingly had a much greater hangover effect had Pyle s death been a complete surprise. On the flipside, the scenes in The Quiet American were diverse and well produced. For example, the explosions in the movie did not feel out of place (AKA Michael Bay ish). As the sun slowly ascended, the sky in the west became a deep neon blue as the light reached further out. By the time we finished breakfast, the pink in the sky had become a pale yellow mixed with blue. It was a peaceful morning but the peace of it did not remain for too long instead it was replaced by regret that has still yet to leave me. Cameron like every five years old loved exploring, the animal noises coming from the woods intrigued him. There was a waterfall nearby, I took him there. It was not the gentle sort of waterfall you might see in a stately home garden, it was the kind where torrents of water are poured over rocks hard enough to crack your skull and mash your brains on the way down, then swirl in a plunge pool below deep enough to drown you if you survived the fall. From the bottom, it was awe inspiring, from the top it was brutal and terrifying. Cameron wanted to jump into it but I didn t let him instead I agreed to play hide and seek. He ran into the forest in order to hide. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 19. The Causes And Effects Of Stress In High School Students Every year, over 1.2 million students drop out of high school in the United States alone. Stress is the most important factor in why students give up on school. Being a recent graduate from high school, I clearly understand exactly how the many components of high school can be stressful. There are many causes and effects of stress on young high school students. The homework load on students can cause stress, Time management is a factor if stress, and Peer pressure is a big cause of stress for high school students. The stress on students in high school can greatly affect their academic performance, it will eventually affect their attitude, and it s going to have a great effect on their mental and physical health. In the next few paragraphs, I will be explaining the causes of stress on high school students. Among many students in High school, the homework load is a cause of stress. According to the National Association of Education, a student should be assigned no more than 10 minutes of homework per grade level per night. Meaning a 1st grader should only have 10 minutes of homework while a 12th grader has 120 minutes of homework each night. On average, high school students are required to take 7 9 classes sometimes daily per week. The amount of homework given to these students sometimes doubles or even triples the recommended amount of homework. A student s time management can cause stress. Deadlines are the things that motivate us to get things done. But so many deadlines ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The aim of the laboratory report was to compare two different field methods skinfolds and bioimpedance analysis to measure body composition and evaluate the most reliable doubly indirect method to measure body composition. A number of studies such as Kitano,T have shown a strong correlation between skinfold and bioelectrical impedance analysis and tend to have an average body fat difference of less than 0.6. Body composition is a combination of numerous components these are: Fat mass, fat free mass, Adipose tissue mass, Lean body mass and relative body fat. Fat mass is defined as all the extractable lipids from adipose and other tissue. Fat free mass is all the left over chemicals and tissues, including water, muscle, bone, connective tissue and internal organs. Adipose tissue mass are connective tissue that work as the major storage site for fat. Lean body mass is everything in the body apart from body fat. Lean body mass includes organs, blood, bones, muscles and skin. Relative body fat is the ratio between fat mass and total body mass. Body composition is measured in many ways. Anthropometry refers to human body composition measurement. The most accurate and direct form of measuring body composition is cadaver dissection which involves dissecting a dead human body and determining the fat percentage. In vivo or indirect, doubly indirect methods do not measure body composition directly, however predict it from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. A Comparison of Corrupt Kings in Shakespeare s Henry IV... A successful monarchy relies upon a stable leader who is concerned with the satisfaction of those he rules over. Henry Bolingbroke the IV in Shakespeare s Henry the IV Part I follows a trend set by his predecessor in Richard II of self indulgence and neglect of his kingdom. These leaders worry about the possibility of losing their kingdom or their soldiers to other nobles who were also concerned more with obtaining a higher position rather than governing. The king must also be wary of his own life, something that was once revered and guarded closely by other nobles. Wars once fought for gaining or protecting land are overshadowed by personal battles fighting for the position of king. Henry proved himself a powerful and fearless leader ... Henry puts his leadership aside to focus his efforts upon preventing Prince Hal from absolute corruption or even betrayal. Hal enjoys the company of an unruly thief, the drunkard John Falstaff, as well as several other less respectable persons. Henry is more realistic and rational than Richard, and he is able to see that his position is not a good one. He may fear that he is a bad example for his son, for he too was a robber when he stole the throne. He fears that his son will ruin his image as king or even assist in overthrowing him; Why, Harry, do I tell thee of my foes, / Which are my nearest and dearest enemy? / Thou that art like enough, through vassal fear, / Base inclination, and the start of the spleen, / To fight against me under Percy s pay, / to dog his hells, and curtys at his frowns, / To show how much thou art degenerate. • 22. The Buzz Saw Poem Analysis A young fellow is cutting kindling with a buzz saw in New England. Close to the end of the day, the kid s sister reports that it is time for supper and, out of exhilaration, the kid unintentionally cuts his hand with the saw. He asks his sister not to enable the specialist to cut away the hand yet deep down understands that he has effectively lost a great deal of blood to survive. The boy passes away while under anesthesia, and everybody backpedals to work. Around 1916 World War I was in progress and a lot of unprepared children had to take the duties of the adults to help out with the households. Frost utilizes the strategy of personification to significantly impact in this poem. The buzz saw, however; a lifeless question is depicted as a discerning being, forcefully growling and rattling as it does its work. At the point when the sister makes the supper declaration, the saw indicates that it has its very own psyche by jumping out of the boy s hand in exhilaration. Frost declines to lay fault for the damage on the boy, who is a young child on the most fundamental level. In spite of faulting the saw, Frost accuses the grown ups at the scene for not interceding and advising the kid to throw in the towel before the mischance happened. Had the kid got an early reason from the workday, he would have refrained from removing his hand and would have been spared from death. Besides, an insignificant half hour break from his employment would have enabled the kid to recapture some portion of his adolescence, if just for a minute. Frost s accentuation on the boy s lack of involvement and blamelessness in this circumstance is especially noteworthy with regards to the day and age. Subsequent to moving to England with his family, Frost was compelled to come back to America as a result of the onset of World War I in 1915, an occasion that would devastate the lives of numerous pure young men. In view of that, this poem can be perused as an investigation of the world occasions that constrained young men to abandon their childhoods and at last be decimated by conditions outside their ability to control. • 24. Examples Of Confirmation Bias CASE STUDY: AVOID THINKING TRAPS KIMBERLY BLACKBURN WESTERN KENTUCKY UNIVERSITY What has become known as Confirmation bias is the tendency people have to embrace information that supports their beliefs and reject information that contradicts them (Kolbert, 2017). The crash of Comair Flight 5191 in Lexington Kentucky in 2006 due to pilot error is a good example of confirmation bias. It is believed the flight crew convinced themselves they were on the right runway due runway lights that they were told were unserviceable in a previous flight. On the flight s voice recorder, the pilots never appeared confused (Ortiz, Patton, Ku, 2007). It was a classic example of confirmation bias, the act of only seeing evidence supporting their preconceptions, investigators said (Ortiz, Patton, Ku, 2007). Confirmation bias is our feeling to choose the information that confirms what we belief or the ideas we have on a subject. Sometimes this can lead us to misjudge or make wrong decisions. The pilots of flight 5191 out of Lexington airport let their belief of the situation make them make the wrong decision and not confirm they were on the right runway. Pilots Clay and Polehinke ignored the warning signs of the unlit runway, too short runway and their distracted conversation during the pre flight time. As many entrepreneurs do, Lay placed a focus on the success and future of his business on the financial performance and growth rate. Although short term success can be gained by focusing solely on the bottom line, long term success can only occur by first meeting the requirements of the law and maintaining integrity through ethical decision making. As you will see, Lay s leadership focus on the priority of enhancing the bottom line actually trumped his ability to promote ethical and legal decision making for his organization. This conflict was the root of the problem that promoted individuals in the organization to make unethical and unlawful decisions on a business level as well as personal level. • 39. Hunting Essay Sport hunting is a violent form of recreation that has left countless animals maimed, and orphaned animals vulnerable to starvation, exposure, and predation. This activity disrupts natural animal population dynamics and has contributed to the extinction of animal species all over the world, including the Tasmanian tiger and the great auk.(1,2) Although less than 5 percent of the U.S. population hunts, hunting is permitted in many wildlife refuges, national forests, and state parks and on other public lands3 where almost half of all hunters slaughter and maim millions of animals every year (by some estimates, poachers kill just as many animals illegally).(4,5) The vast majority of hunters do not kill for subsistence.(6) Municipalities and ... Two were shot by hunters within two weeks of their relocation, and others have simply returned to their homes.(17) Wolves have been slaughtered in order to let the moose population rebound and provide a higher harvest for local hunters. Natural predators help maintain this balance by killing the sickest and weakest individuals. Hunters, however, kill any animal whose head they would like to hang over the fireplace including large, healthy animals who are needed to keep the population strong. Elephant poaching is believed to have increased the number of tuskless animals in Africa, and in Canada, hunting has caused bighorn sheep s horn size to fall by 25 percent in the last 40 years Nature magazine reports that the effect on the populations genetics is probably deeper. • 41. Root Cellar Theodore Roethke Analysis Theodore Roethke s poem Root Cellar has one stanza, and eleven lines total. Upon first reading the title, I admit that it doesn t strike me as very original. This poem can very well be a description of the author s cellar; a snapshot of an event being held in said cellar. The author begins with telling us that nothing would sleep in [the] cellar . At first I pondered why the author would put that part in at the very beginning, but as I read on I found that the beginning was the correct placement; it pulled the reader (me) in, and had me asking, Why wouldn t anything sleep down there? Was it hot? Musty? Dark? The author describes the cellar as dark, and uses similes, dank as a ditch and, roots ripe as old bait to describe the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They then go on to describe the rotting roots, the decomposing leaves, the lime, etc. to further the feeling of disgust when one thinks of such a place. The last two lines threw me for a loop however. Nothing would give up life: Even the dirt kept breathing a small breath. Suddenly, my thoughts of disgust transformed to more positive ones. Instead of thinking, Why would anyone allow something to become so disgusting? , I think about how the leaves and the roots refused to go away. The shoots continued to hang, low and in the way; the leaves and roots continued to make their presence known by giving off the strong smell of decomposing matter. After reading the poem, I m still not 100% sure on what the theme is. There was a shift from negative to positive in the last three lines, and lots of imagery. Even then the poem still comes across as abstract and slightly vague. The author could be describing their life; maybe the run down cellar and decaying roots are representations of an unhappy or dysfunctional childhood. Maybe, in writing this, they are accepting that those memories will never go away, but they don t define who they are. Or maybe the author is describing a time when they went to get something from their cellar, and realized how disgusting it was. As always, it s whatever the reader wants it to ... • 42. Body Image In The Fashion Industry The fashion industry Under society s norms for decades, young women have been put under the pressure and anticipation to have perfect bodies. That is, thin and curved, beautified by applying pounds of the makeup to their face but not appear ridiculously overdone. Who s responsible for these standards imposed on young women? When a young girl picks up the model along the cover of Vogue being called flawless, it s easy for her to then aspire to be a real life imitation of the photocopy. These companies produce magazine covers shown with girls images daily. As if keeping the perfect body wasn t hard enough our culture also forces girls into the forever expanding world of composition, however, body image is a pressing issue for young women. Advertisements and posters of skinny female models are all over. Young girls not only could be better but need to be more upright and feel driven to throw the perfect figure. Moreover, girls are evaluated and oppressed by their physical appearances. With supplements and apparel designed to enhance a facial expression; social media, magazines, and marketing campaigns and advertisements add to the burden of perfection. The fashion industry is a prime object of body image issues, as they believe clothes look better on tall and svelte women. Established on a survey participated by 13 to 17 year old in the U.S., 90% felt pressured by fashion and media industries to be skinny , with more than 60% routinely compares themselves to models, while 46% ... • 43. Characteristics Of The Knight In The Canterbury Tales Although some knights were depicted as being selfish and careless about others, there were some knights who were depicted as possessing heroic qualities such as strength, courage, selflessness, and many more. The Knight in The Canterbury Tales, by Geoffrey Chaucer, is one example of a knight who possesses heroic qualities. There was a Knight a most distinguished man, who from the day on which he first began to ride abroad had followed chivalry, truth, honour, and generousness and courtesy (Chaucer 4). The Knight is a generous and courteous man and fights with honor and fidelity, as a hero should. The narrator in The Canterbury Tales also calls the Knight wise and a ... true, perfect gentle knight (Chaucer 5). Not only was he a gentle Knight, but a strong Knight as well because of the various battles he participated in. These traits that the Knight possessed that the narrator in The Canterbury Tales seems to fond over are reminiscent of a true hero. A hero is said to be strong, kind, brave, selfless, and loyal. The Knight fits this description almost perfectly. The Knight is not the only knight in the Middle Ages that was depicted as being a hero. Lancelot, although possessing some antiheroic traits, possessed qualities of a hero as well. In The Knight of the Cart, at the beginning of Lancelot s quest to save Guinevere, he runs into a dwarf who is riding the shaft of a cart. He asks the dwarf if he has seen Guinevere at all, but the dwarf does not give him any information and instead tells him to get in the cart and he will know by morning of what happened to Guinevere. Riding a cart during those times was not a good thing. The cart was for all criminals alike, for all traitors and murders... the guilty person was taken and made to mount in the cart... he had lost all his feudal rights and never heard at court (Troyes 211). At first, Lancelot hesitated for a couple of seconds, but then he decided to ride in the cart, knowing the repercussions of doing it. This shows Lancelot as a selfless individual because he was focused on rescuing Guinevere. Lancelot sacrificed his reputation for Guinevere. By stressing how shameful it is to ride in the cart, Chrétien thereby stresses how noble it is of Lancelot to so ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Self-Realization In The Remains Of The Day There is a form that an ending can take a form far more subtle and yet more powerful than the typical happy ending; the ending of true self realization. Men have an insidious way of deceiving themselves most continue in this self destructive path for their entire lives, but some come to a point where something strikes them, something that turns their constructed worlds upside down, something that forces them to be honest with themselves; only when this something strikes them can they come to a point of true self realization. The main character of The Remains of The Day, Mr. Stevens, is one of them men to whom this self realization comes. In some roundabout way, even during his time of blindness, Mr. Stevens is cognizant of this fact even if he does not see its full implications. The theme of self realization is shown by the character s realization that bantering plays a significant role in the accumulation of human warmth, and by his realization that the waning years of life are often the most enjoyable ... • 45. Sakoku, or the National Seclusion of Japan Sakoku, or the national seclusion, of Japan by the Tokugawa Iemitsu in the 1630s was one of the most important periods in Japanese history. Many people perceived that Japan became uniquely unique because of the Sakoku. However, during the Sakoku, Japan was not complete sealed off from foreign influences and trades. The national seclusion of Japan is believed by some people that there is only limited trade with the Dutch and Chinese in Nagasaki. According to Oxford Art Online during the Edo period, the Bay of Nagasaki is the only port open to overseas trade (Bonnie), which was not true. During the Sakoku, Japan was not restricted to only the bay in Nagasaki, but Japan had total of four designated places that allowed foreign contacts. Before the detail of the four areas of foreign relations during the Sakoku period, the reasons for the Sakoku need to be explained. The widespread of Christianity in Japan started because of Oda Nobunaga encouraged missionaries to convert many Japanese to Christians because he wanted to reduce the influence of Buddhist monasteries. However, his successors did not share the same view. Hideyoshi felt threaten by Christians, especially the Catholics because of several reasons. Yin and Yang, which were swirled together, along with all the other opposites. Then, the egg burst open and Pan gu jumped out. After coming out of the egg, he then separated yin and yang and began forming the earth. For about 10,000 years, Pangu grew 10 feet every day, until the sky came to the point where it was 30,000 miles above ground. When Pan gu had stopped growing, he then began to hammer out the mountains. Pan gu filled the valley with water to form the great oceans. He made/created the rivers with his fingers, and he stomped the Earth and dirt down to create flat land. He had gathered light and, tossed it into the sky so that it could become the stars. After all of this, Pan gu had grown old and tired (This was about 18,000 years after), he made the world with his hands; along with forming the basic principles of yin and yang. Pan gu decided to lay down, but once he laid down, he never rose again. When Pan gu died, his body formed the tallest mountains, his skull had formed the sky, his hair the flowers and plants, his bones turn to jade and pearls, his arms and his legs were the four directions. • 48. Impacts Of Coal Mining On The Environment Coal mining can have seriously adverse environmental and related impacts, including interference with groundwater quantity and quality, land subsidence, impacts on river flows and consequential impact on other land uses, issues associated with mining wastes disposal, creation of geological hazards . . . and potential ecological havoc (Bian et al., The Impact of Disposal and Treatment of Coal Mining Wastes on Environment and Farmland 1). Coal, a commodity that the world depends on as a vital economic player and energy resource, is extracted from the ground at a very costly price to the environment. It is a major energy source that provides about 40% of the electricity that the world consumes, and the consumption of coal has grown dramatically in recent years. Not only is coal a major energy producer, but it is also a vital player in many countries economies, employing millions across the world both directly and indirectly. Unfortunately, since coal is so important to the economy and energy production, there is often little regard for the impacts that it has on the environment when being extracted. In broad a generalization, coal mining techniques can be broken down into two categories: surface mining and underground mining (the first involving techniques that stay above ground and the latter using tunneling). Although environmental implications may vary slightly between the two methods of coal extraction, there are a number of issues that are the result of both surface ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
