Story Of The Warrior And The Captive Maiden Analysis
The story Story of the Warrior and the Captive Maiden, is based on the obituary of Droctulft who
was a warrior. The origin of the story is La Poesia, is an summarize Latin text, which the
historian Paul the Deacon was able to preserved. In the first paragraph of the story, Droctulft is
depicted as a glorify warrior who the people of Ravenna conveyed. Although Droctulft die
defending the city he had been attacking, the people of Ravenna portrayed him as a man of
kindness and ease. Droctulft is described as a complex character that conclusively dies for the
enemy. According to the story, Droctulf was a white courageous, cruel and loyal individual. The
descriptions given illustrate an individual who fits the character of a warrior from the beginning.
By explaining his identify of a white male, who is brave and devoted is contrast from the character
the audience sees at the end. The story further explains his attitude towards the city, in which states
he assumed the city had more worth and valued than the faith he had sworn by. Decisively, his role
of fighting for his enemy and not fully understanding the words on his memorial. Similarly, Borges
interpretation of Droctulft as a character is parallel to the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The story depicts her actions barbarian by stating existence as glimpses of a savage and uncouth
life. The story further explains the activities in which the barbarian Indian woman, participated in

Conclusively, the stories the author chooses to share are different stories. The first story discussed
a warrior who betrayed his people to defend the enemy. The second story discussed the lifestyle of
a woman whose culture is judged and misunderstood. However, the title of the story applies to the
separate stories because the captive warrior and maiden are both

Similarities Between Dracula And Wide Sargasso Sea
Dracula by Bram Stoker and Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys published in 1897 and 1966
respectively, both echo public and private societal expectations of women at the time. Stoker s
novel was written during the birth of first wave feminism, a period where women were beginning
to be seen as more than sexual objects for male pleasure. Women campaigned for female agency
which resulted in the birth of the new woman . Similarly, Rhys novel focuses on the discrimination
faced as a Creole woman suffering from mental illness. Thus, the ways in which both authors
convey significant themes such as racism, genderdisparity and social class can be compared in
further detail. Initially, the titles of both novels also provide a strong grounding to understanding
the status of women at the time. Rhys novel refers to the Sargasso Sea, located in the Atlantic
Ocean. This is known for the infamous Bermuda Triangle, described as an oceanic black hole where
ships disappear under mysterious circumstances. One interpretation of this title could imply that
characters may be imprisoned in their personal Bermuda Triangle , where Antoinette grapples with
her racial identity as a white Creole. Furthermore, the Sargassum is a weed native to the Sargasso
Sea, which was symbolic of neglect, devastation, and disorder. [1] This echoes the sentiments of the
protagonist of the novella, Antoinette. Antoinette embodies the inherent misogyny prevalent during
the 20th Century, where women were often reduced

Simplifying Expressions
While working on this problem I learned a lot about basic properties of addition and
multiplication, such as distributive property, inverse property, commutative properties, etc. What s
common about these problems is the order in which we are going to do the steps. The first step
will always be to remove the parenthesis, which uses the distributive property. Second will always
be combining like terms and adding related coefficients what we have been working on this week
which is dealing with real numbers.
Here is the solution to the first problem:
2a(a 5)+ 4(a 5)
=2aa+2a( 5)+4a 4в‹…5
=2a^2 10a+4a 20
=2a^2 6a 20
The steps used to simplify this equation are as follows:
First I remove all of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although I still have parentheses in the equation, they are only there to emphasize the negative
numbers.
20.05(0.3m+35n) 0.8( 0.09n 22m) =0.05в‹…0.3m+0.05в‹…35n 0.8в‹…( 0.09n) 0.8в‹…( 22m)
The second step is to figure out the correct coefficients:
0.05в‹…0.3m+0.05в‹…35n 0.8в‹…( 0.09n) 0.8в‹…( 22m)=0.015m+1.75n+0.072n+17.6m
The final step is to find the like terms and then combine them to obtain the simplified form:
0.015m+1.75n+0.072n+17.6m=17.615m+1.822n
The expression is now fully simplified to 17.615m+1.822n
In all three problems in this problem set, I learned how to simplify algebraic expressions using
distributive property and commutative property. In the second problem I used the inverse property
of addition. I noticed that the third problem was different from the first and second problems, in that
in the third problem there were no integer numbers. This whole section is about real numbers so
this problem set teaches us how to operate using both integer and non integer real

Similarities Between The Christian Rosary And The Buddhist...
A religious individual may most gloriously carry out his or her own rituals, as a part of his or her
cultural identity, but the moment, that person starts to build a wall of separation between the self
and the rest of humanity, coaxed by the textual commands of a scripture, the healthy religiousness
turns into dangerous fundamentalism, which is a threat to both the self and the society. (Abhijit
Naskar). In the recent history of our society, the actions of religious extremists have driven people
apart, and hatred has grown from a lack of ecumenism between those of different faiths. By
focusing on the differences between religions, and not on the latent similarities that inherently exist
between different faiths, people become blinded to how various religions are all rooted in the same
philosophies. However, by focusing on the similarities of different religion, through philosophies,
rituals, or teachings, we can then learn how to tear down walls, grow as people, and become
cognitive of our joint humanity. With the necessity of ecumenical relations in our community, it
serves humans to see the similarities between the faiths that can divide us. On such similarity exists
between the rituals of the Christian Rosary and the Buddhist tradition of PrayerWheels, both are
physical guides for repetitive prayers and personal reflection and meditation. The Catholic tradition
of the Rosary is a long held practice of Marian prayer which dates back millennia. The tradition of

The Eruption Of The Hawaiian Volcano
The Hawaiian volcano is a shield volcano; they are the oldest continental regions of earth. They
may even be the remains of ancient shield volcanoes. A shield volcano is tall and broad with flat,
rounded shape. The Hawaiian volcanoes are built by countless outpourings of lava that advance
great distances from a central summit vent or a group of vents. Extensive study of the Hawaiian
Islands revealed that they are constructed of a myriad of thin basaltic lavaflows averaging a few
meters thick intermixed with relatively minor amounts of pyroclastic ejected material. During
eruptions these outpourings help keep these volcanoes safe. When these volcanoes erupt lava
fountains out form the volcanoand is hot liquid lava is thrown into the air but usually not very
high. The lava normally flows easily, and does not explode. These volcanoes also only explode
if water some how gets into the vent. Mount St. Helens is composite volcano, which are also
known as strato volcanoes. They are tall, symmetrically shaped, with steep sides, sometimes
rising 10,000 feet high. They are built of alternating layers of lava flows, volcanic ash, and
cinders. The large and generally cone shaped volcanoes form along plate boundaries called
subduction zones where one of the earths plates melts as it falls back into the earth`s mantle. The
eruptions are called explosive, and effusive, because vast amounts of gasses are thrown into the
atmosphere, and the lava explodes and is vicious. A shield

How Did The Medici Have Too Much Power
The Medici had too much power. Why. Because, they want to become power for themselves. The

would used their time wisely and their choice through a man would of raised into the country in

General Definitions. Before Going Into The Background Of
General Definitions
Before going into the background of the Walt Disney Company and its theme parks, it is necessary
to define some terms that are used throughout the paper. These terms are defined as the researcher
understands them as a former cast member of the Walt Disney Company. The first term that needs
to be defined is guest . Instead of calling people who visit their theme parks customers, the Walt
Disney Company refers to visitors of their theme parks as guests. This is to keep up with the show
and the storytelling of the company since Disney is inviting visitors into their home as their guests.

Since the focus of this paper is international theme parks, only a brief history of the American
theme parks will be discussed. Walt Disney thought of the idea of the theme park one day when he
took his daughters to a local park and watched them as they rode the merry go round (Disney,
2009). Disney wanted a place where children and their parents could have fun and enjoy the rides
together (Disney, 2009). Disneyland was, thus,
Conceived as a celebration of America s past and as a paean to its progress, or as Walt Disney put
it: the older generation can recapture the nostalgia of the days gone by, and the younger generation
can savor the challenge of the future (Bryman, 1999, p.31).
As Bryman argues, Disneyland was designed to make the older generation feel nostalgic. This
feeling of nostalgia is created on Main Street, USA and Frontierland which represent America s
past. Disneyland was also created to capture the imagination of children as seen in Fantasyland and
Tomorrowland.
Disneyland opened in Anaheim, California on July 17th, 1955. Walt Disney s theme park idea
soon expanded past what he had space to build in California which prompted the building of the
Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida. The Magic Kingdom, the first theme park built at
Disney World, opened after his death in October of 1971 (Disney, 2009). The feeling of nostalgia
is recreated and expanded in the Magic Kingdom with the addition of a land named Liberty Square

How Water Shortages Caused The Future Can Produce...
The focus of this essay is how water shortages in the future can produce worldwide food
shortages. Only if we act to improve water use in agriculture will we meet the acute freshwater
challenges facing humankind over the coming 50 years [4]. As the world changes over the next
fifty years, the water struggles that we endure will be seen in the food production around the
world. There are many factors that contribute to this occurring, including global climate change,
the increase in water security vulnerability, and the phenomenon that the world has hit peak
water. The world s population has also changed their average diet over the past 50 years, to
consuming more meat and more calories in general [4]. This dietary change means that each
person requires more water to produce their food than in previous generations. In the Middle
East and Northern Africa (MENA) countries as much as 50% of their food is imported [1].
These countries are currently seeing the troubles of not having enough water to grow and supply
them with enough food. In the future other regions of the world may become less inclined to
trade with the MENA countries, because their own countries are consuming all of their food. The
region has suffered from a decline in water availability which is only projected to decline even
further in the next few decades [1]. The struggles of this region could be a preview for many other
regions around the world if the water shortages continue as projected. By

Following the First World War, much of society rejected the ideas of machinery and war, as
were often suggested in futuristic, avant garde art up until then. Artists such as Leger worked
with this situation by embracing classicism and realistic, figurative works. This approach
worked, and their art was successful amongst society. LГ©ger and his colleagues rejoiced in the
new publicity of the postwar years and the energy of mass media (O Donovan, 2013). Hurd took
this European art movement and used it in his illustration of the book Runaway Bunny . The
pictures in this book are done in a realistic manner, with smoothly blended colors and no cartoon
like outlines. Part of this art movement included frontal compositions and strong contours, which
are also seen in this series of illustration. In the style of return to order art, animals live in unity in
a landscape that flows easily to the viewer. Gradually, the ideas of classical and modern
combined. In the art world, organic and abstract, irregular shapes began to have increasing
importance and illustrators such as Hurd adapted to this as well. Goodnight Moon , written five
years after Runaway Bunny , and My World , written seven years after, have very different styles
and adapt to the more abstract forms that the art world responded to. In these works, the reader
observes flat shapes that stand in stark

Originating from the Ancient Greeks over 13 centuries ago, boxing has been a highly
anticipated, globally entertaining sport watched by millions. However, today s society has
began to raise an eyebrow over the relevance of boxing in today s age. Many, without much
knowledge on the sport, would argue that it causes fatal injuries, brain damage and illnesses that
boxers will have to live with for the rest of their lives. Some say it shows the dark side of sport

world who was given a final blow by Parkinson s was the peoples champion, Muhammad Ali. Ali,
considered one of the greatest boxers in the sports history, is one of the most iconic, inspirational

Islamic belief. This one is resulting from the religious principles of Islam, mainly the Quran and the

words of Muhammad, which are named Sunnah, and the Quran, that he wrote (2016). The Sharia

behavior and private beliefs. Out of all the legal systems throughout the world currently, Islam s
Sharia law is the utmost disturbing and firm, particularly contrary to women. For example,
according to the law a man can beat his wife for disobedience, a woman cannot speak alone to a
man who is not her relative of husband, and a female heir inherits half of what a male heir

The Mystery Of Vampires From Folklore Tales
Ideas, beliefs, and theories of monsters have been a part of culture since the dawn of mankind. Over
time, these gothic entities transformed into specific characters with names, features, and
appearances. One particular monster that sustained themselves over time have been vampires. In
fact, stories of vampires have been with civilization for centuries.
The exact origin of vampires is unknown and there have been many speculations and theories of
these monsters origins. Many scholars believe that vampires originated from folklore tales, which
spread all throughout Europe, Asia, Africa, England, and Ireland. In addition, early civilizations
associated vampires with unexplained events such as death, disease, and misfortune.
Scholars would theorize vampires were ways ancient people would associate with uncanny events
that could not be explained due to their lack of education, primitive medicine and crude technology.
According to Theodora Goss, the vampire functioned as [a] scapegoat ... [allowing] the villagers to

Disengagement Theory Of Aging
Social theories of aging enable us to understanding the changes that the elderly
undergo later in life as it pertains to their activities with friends and family. There are many
interpretations of what occurs late in life related to social activities of the elderly; there are four
(4) theories to support these social activities of which the first is the disengagement theory.
The disengagement theory according to Cumming and Henry (1961) suggests that
this theory is the mutual withdrawal between elders and society in anticipation of death.
As individuals age, mainly late in their lives, they ponder about the afterlife and the events
surrounding death. This internal reflection is consumes their daily lives and puts them into deep ...

This change is largely driven by the physical and physiological changes during the aging
process. Also, though not implicitly stated, the elderly tend to lose trust in society and become
guarded and therefore find it harder to form new relationships or have lost the desire to meet new
people.
The physical realities of getting around, driving and hanging out late with friends are
apparent and enjoying long nights out or driving to see a movie at 6pm is no longer physically
possible. They will focus on the emotional connection and ability to continue the friendship
without being hampered by their physical capabilities.
Optimal aging describes one s ability to function across many facets of life, including
attributes related to physical, functional, cognitive, emotional, social, and spiritual being; it is the
conservancy of one s life and fulfillment of life despite of one s medical impediments. Optimal
aging recognizes that many people can age quite well in spite of frailties or adverse

Three Important Aspects Of Applying For College
As a senior in high school about to graduate and start my college career I will tell you that I was
unprepared and applying for college. I wish more people had told me the importance of applying
early to college because even though I got into my first choice college is always great to have extra
backup plans. I did receive some help in applying for collegethrough my schoolas well as my
parents. However if I receive more help I would have had more applications turned in. Three
important aspects of applying to college are the applications themselves, letters of recommendation,
and the ACT/SAT tests.
The SAT/ACT are required by most if not all colleges. You can begin SSAT testing during your
junior year and all throughout the application process. It is best to start during your junior year
because this allows you to take the test multiple times in case your scores are the best. I highly

recommendation is to give the colleges in sight of the applicant because in your application you
don t usually talk about yourself unless you are writing an essay. You usually want to have your
application done by a teacher who knows a good amount about you so your college choice can
see why you would be a great student at their college. The easiest way to get your letters of
recommendation for college with to have them sent over the same time you send your high school

The Rock, Pop And Soul Reader By David Brackett
The articles that I chose to examine from the Rock, Pop and Soul Reader by David Brackett are
titled On Wax by Paul Whiteman and Mary Margaret McBride, and What Songs the Beatles Sang
by William Mann. These articles came from different time periods in which there was a need for
change in music. The artists discussed in these articles took a chance, and experimented to create a
new sound that the audience enjoyed. Other important similarities include the specific changes
made in the music, and what made the sound more popular. Despite the similarities and differences,
these articles have also taught me much about the history of rock and rollincluding; the effects of
change in music, and the imagination and creativity behind it. When comparing the articles, one
can determine that they are similar. On Wax looks at the introduction of new music and technology
in the 1920s that revolutionized the music industry. However, What Songs the BeatlesSang, looks at
the change in music during the time of the British Invasion, and why the Beatles were successful. In
On WaxВё it stated that in the 1920s, there was change of instrumentation in nearly all orchestral
pieces (Whiteman and McBride, 11). This included the addition of the tuba replacing the double
basses, ordinary drums replacing banjo, and tympani and snare replacing the regular drum. These
additions created a muddy and fuzzed up effect that listeners enjoy (Whiteman and McBride, 11).

Q6. Decisions that need to be made. Right now Currently, there is the need to help improve the
level of commitment and employee motivation among the staff at the radio station. Long term In
the long run, there will be the need to alter the organizational structure to set up clear and efficient
lines of command, developing a clear mission and vision that would guide the activities of the firm
and enhancing the working conditions at the radio station by improving the nature of their working
relationship by offering long term contracts. Q7. What I would do if I were Fiske First, I would
immediately engage in efforts to win the support of the Michigan State University administration.
To achieve this, there are two options that may be pursued. First demonstrate enhanced management
at the radio station and thus portray WEAA as a going concern. This would involve adoption of
stricter internal control policies in terms of employee conduct and improving the firm s financial
performance by engaging in more fundraising activities that would inject more capital and thus,
improve WEAA bottom s line. The other option would be to opt for a more strategic partnership
with the University by highlighting the benefits that would accrue to the institution from the radio
station. For example, Michigan State University would benefit from increased publicity as thus
attract a higher student population. This would translate to more revenue in terms of tuition fees.

Highlighting the Issue of Neo-Colonialism through Media...
The Effects of Neo Colonialism as presented in Motorcycle Diaries and A Small Place Neo
Colonialism is a very powerful and controversial issue in the world today. Countries such as the
United States, Great Brittan and France still greatly profit over the countries they left as
independent years ago. This paradox is created by the mother country exerting economic and
political influence on the former colonies; allowing them to still profit from these third world
countries without actually occupying them. Neo Colonialism produces a number of effects on the
subject country, the majority of these effects being negative. The novel A Small Place

Briefly Summarize The Four Phases Of The 30 Years War
William Sun Mr Hughes AP European History (6) 15 October 2015 Chapter 15 Questions 1.
Briefly summarize the four phases of the 30 Years War. How did the war change the economic
and political landscape of the Holy Roman Empire? The four phases of the thirty years can be
summarised as the Bohemian phase, Danish phase, Swedish phase and French phase, which
induced the Holy Roman Empire to lose money and caused the empire to split. The Bohemian
phase from 1618 to 1625 was sparked by the defenestration of Prague. This incited civil war between
the Catholics League and the Protestant Union. The Catholics won the first phase through the
defeat of the Protestants in the Battle of the White Mountain in 1620. The Danish phase, from 1625

2. What is absolutism? Explain the top three reasons for its rise in the 17th century Absolutism,
where there is a person who has full political power over a country, rose in the 17th century due to
the increase in surplus, mercantilism and the standing armies. Due to the increase in surplus in
these countries, the government had more money to spend. Mercantilism also contributed to the
economic growth of countries that adopted it. The increased money from these meant increased
funding for standing armies. The standing armies gave the king an army without needing to call on
the nobles, thereby lessening their importance and power, and heightening the king s. 3. Why is
Richelieu so important for French history? Richelieu was important for French history as he
strengthened the French monarchy through the unification of France, lessening of nobles power
and boosting economic growth. Richelieu unified France by making French the national language
of France. The unification of France made it easier for Louis XIII to achieve an Absolutist
government. Richelieu minimised the nobles power, which in turn increased the monarch s power.
Richelieu also managed the economic activities of France. These strengthened the French
monarchy significantly. 4. Le Roi Soleil Did Louis XIV really deserve this name? Louis XIV was

Themes In Rocket Boys By Homer H. Hickam Jr
A theme is the underlying meaning or essence in a work of literature. In the memoir, Rocket Boys,
Homer H. Hickam Jr. masterfully places themes throughout the story to arrange the structure and
development of the novel. These themes are carried out through the conversations of the main
characters: Sonny, Homer Sr., Elsie, Sherman, Jim, Quentin, O Dell, and Roy Lee. These main
characters are profoundly influenced by the themes of the memoir; these themes shape their lives

Although Sonny and Jim are not in a definite fight with each other, they are far from friends and

In Rocket Boys, Sonny illustrates the internal and external conflicts between the individual and

criticized for his blown up rocket. When Pooky and his friends confront Sonny, they mock him

Arguments Against Poaching
Like all big issues in our world, there is an argument being made. The argument is not whether
poaching is a problem or not, it is obviously a problem, it is an argument on how humanity should
go about stopping poaching. One side of that argument believes that going after the people behind
poaching, those who buy poached ivoryfor example, is more important than stopping poachers on
the ground . They would be more likely to support a United Nations sanction on poaching than
providing funding for ranger groups. The other side of the argument is that the effort to stop
poaching has become an all out war and needs to be treated as such. They believe rangers need
access to modern weapons and technology, training and funding. They argue if the poachers have it,
the rangers trying to stop them need to have it too.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

organizations, and give them the rights and the support any soldier would receive in a war. If we
don t treat the war on poaching like an actual war, and we don t treat poachers like active

Water Consumption Report On Drinking Consumption
Water Consumption Report Student Reference (2137178F) Abstract Although a large majority
of planet Earth s surface comprises water, only a small percentage of it is in fact suitable for use.
The human population is growing rapidly and the demand for fresh water is steadily increasing.
The aim of this investigation is to measure personal water consumption over a period of three
weeks and compare the collected data with the average water consumption of individuals in
countries at both ends of the economic spectrum. The results of personal consumption show that
over a one week period, an average of 713.17 litres of water were consumed (discounting
embedded water), which breaks down to a daily average of 101.88 litres. Although this is lower
than the average daily consumption of 150 litres for an individual in the UK , measures can be
nevertheless be taken to reduce fresh water consumption, such as placing bricks inside the toilet
cistern, using the washing machine less often, and using a weaker flow setting on the shower.
Introduction Issues relating to water are increasingly becoming a major global concern. The need
for fresh water is fundamental to human life and an increasing percentage of the global
population do not have access to it. In 2011 the UN Secretary General expressed how Safe
drinking water and basic sanitation are intrinsic to human survival, well being and dignity .) .

isotope and isotopes are atoms that have the same number of protons but different number of
neutrons in their nuclei. Carbon 14 is a radioisotope of the element carbon.
Structure of Carbon 14
The diagram above shows the structure of carbon 14. Carbon 14 has six protons in the nucleus
and six neutrons, giving carbon 14 an atomic mass of 12. It also has an extra two neutrons which
makes the total eight neutrons. Carbon 14 also has two shells, shell one consist of two electrons

Sports Leads
For me, the best sports leads are ones that either raise a question or evoke an emotion. Most people
are easily distracted in this era filled with constant distractions and people with the attention spans
like squirrels. I can even attest to having one of these squirrel attention spans, and as such, if I am
reading a story that does not entice me quickly enough, I usually just move on. I have found that the
best way to maintain the attention spanof a reader is by posing an irresistible question or by making
them so emotional, that they cannot resist reading. I found three good examples of a sports lead

There always needs to be a reason for me to care about anything that I read, if I do not care about
it, then why should I spend my time reading it? A prime example I found of invoking emotion in
a lead was in a story about the Marlins game earlier this week. On Sunday, one of the Marlins
prized players tragically passed away after a boating accident. The lead read The Miami Marlins

made me want to care, it made me want to sympathize with the family, team, and fans of Jose
Fernandez. The lead demonstrated the pain that the team was suffering through by the statement
had to take the field . They did not have to take the field because they owed it to Fernandez or to
the fans, they had to because it was their job and they had no other option about it. They were
clearly suffering and wanted nothing to do with the game and had to force themselves through their
own pain just to play, that is a powerful

DATE : February 28, 2014
Purpose: The purpose of this memo is to give detailed instructions on how to restructure the

American audiences on the ABC Network.
Objectives:
Target AudienceThe target audience for the American adaptation of Summer Heights High is
going to to be male and females aged 20 34 that make up 20.9% of the total U.S. population, the
penetration size will be the Americans aged 25 29 that have a college bachelors degree and are

Since The Voice is not a comedy and does not resonate highly with the same target audience it is
not seen as a direct threat. However, a new show on NBC will be coming on right after The Voice
called Revolution. The show may attract some of the same target audience but since it is not a
comedy, those that are looking for something much more comedic will turn to ABC.
FOX: On Monday nights at 9:00pm on FOX an hour long show called The Following comes on,
it is not a comedy but it does appeal to some of the same target audience. The show that comes on
right before The Following is Bones, which is another crime show. Research shows that our target
audience finds interest in the crime shows, therefore although Bones does not come on at the same
time, it is possible that the target audience will decide to watch one show over the other.
the CW: On Monday nights at 9:00pm on the CW the popular show 90210 comes on. The show is
popular among high school and early college students but also appeals to the target audience
which makes the CW s 90210 a direct competitor. Even though 90210 is not a comedy is has been
around for, going on, six seasons and has viewer loyalty.
Show Overview The American adaptation of Summer Heights High, to match the target audience
and to have independent brand awareness from the Australian version will be renamed to Summer

Eliot s Influences On Literature
Frederick Douglass and T.S. Eliot s Influences On Literature The nineteenth and twentieth
century were pivotal times in the world of literature. Many new elements of writing and style
were evolving and authors all over the world were finding ways to present what they felt most
passionate about. Some writers opened their readers up to newer ideas by the means of, as Ezra
Pound once stated, making it new. Two writers in particular who did a fantastic job of this were
Frederick Douglass and T.S. Eliot. Frederick Douglass s most popular work is his autobiography,
The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass. In this story, Douglass makes romanticism new.
On the contrast, T.S. Elliot is widely known for his poem, The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, in
which he makes new of imagery. While Frederick Douglass and T.S. Eliot come from completely
different backgrounds and write with different styles, they share a few commonalities as well as
both being influences on literary society. Frederick Douglass was born into slavery in Talbot
County, Maryland around the supposed year of 1818. Like many other slaves, his exact date of
birth remains unknown. Douglass was an abolitionist for slavery as well as a supporter for women
s rights. Due to his works and accomplishments, it is obvious that Douglass was a major contributor
to the literary tradition of American Romanticism. After escaping slavery, Frederick Douglass wrote
his most famous autobiography, The Narrative of the Life of

Examples Of Delayed Gratification
Delayed or Instant Gratification: Differences in choosing delayed gratification between extro verted
and introverted people.
Introduction
How are humans capable to control themselves and their urges? This question has psy chologists
wondering for centuries. How do we decide if we want to spend our money on something or rather
save it to spend it later on something else? What makes us wait for a re ward rather than receiving
instant gratification? Several studies have been conducted on these questions, looking for answers
on self control. In my research, I want to see if there is a dif ference between introverted and
extroverted people in choosing delayed gratification. My hypotheses is that the more introversion a
human shows the more likely they choose delayed gratification.

Comparing Two Leadership Theories Essay
There are different leadership theories developed throughout the history. Most popular ones are trait
theories, behavioral theories, contingency theories, and leader member exchange (LMX) theory.
The author of the post will briefly discuss two theories, Fiedler contingency theory and Leader
Member Exchange (LMX), and compare and contrast their strengths and weakness.
Fiedler model is considered the first highly visible theory to present the contingency approach. It
stated that effective groups depend on a proper match between a leader s style of interacting with
subordinates and the degree to which the situation gives control and influence to the leader (Fiedler,
1967). Fiedler argued that the leadership style could be indentified by ... Show more content on

The role of the follower and the quality of the relationship itself are informally negotiated
between followers and their leaders over time (Gils, Quaquebeke, Knippenberg, 2009). Based on
the LMX theory, leaders build a special relationship with an inner circle, or in group , of
followers, who often get high levels of responsibility and access to resources. The in group
members work harder and are more committed to task objectives. They are also expected to be
totally committed and loyal to their leader. Conversely, other followers fall in the out group and
are given low levels of choice or influence. Aggression, sarcasm and a self centered view are
qualities seen in the out group. The quality of the LMX relationship varies and is better when the
challenge of the job is extremely high or extremely low (Graen et al., 1982).
Both Fiedler model and LMX theory have strength and weakness. Fiedler model emphasizes the
importance of both situation and leader s characteristics in determining leader effectiveness. It
stimulates a great deal of research and inspires the formulation of alternative contingency theory. On
the weak side, the Fiedler model sometimes fails to reflect the personality traits that it intends to
reflect. It has also gained criticism because of its implications on replacing the leader as the only
way to solve the mismatch between leader orientation and unfavorable situation. The method of

extremely difficult to measure (Lee, Zhai, Brooks Gunn, Han, Waldfogel, 2013). Subsequently,
Head Start has become one of the most controversial government agencies (Nathan, 2007).
Head Start was created in 1965, during Lyndon B. Johnson s presidential administration, as part of

For the first twenty years of its existence, Head Start was an intensive summer program (Hevesi,

Prion Diseases Research Paper
TSE: Unique Neuroinvasive Pathogens Overview Transmissible spongiform encephalopathies
(TSEs), also referred to as prion diseases, are a range of progressive neurodegenerative diseases
that affect various mammals, including humans. These diseases are caused by exposure to prions,
infectious agents that result from the misfolded form of a glycoprotein found at the surface of cells:
PrPc. The abnormal variant (PrPSc) is highly resistant to heat, chemicals and disinfection
procedures such as formalin disinfection. It requires autoclaving at 137ВєC for up to an hour to
sterilize contaminated materials. In some of these conditions prions first accumulate in the
lymphoid tissues, which are found within the route of infection, before reaching the brain.... Show

Infectious agents enter the brain through parasympathetic and sympathetic efferent fibres, with
one difference: the parasympathetic route of infection does not involve the spinal cord. Instead,
it goes directly to the CNS (McBride et al., 2001). TSE agents therefore reach the CNS in the
opposite direction that efferent (motor) fibres follow (i.e. from the target organ towards the brain
and not vice versa). As seen in Figure 3, infectious agents run through the splanchnic nerve
(sympathetic) to reach the spinal cord thoracically. From there, they spread to the brain in caudal
cranial direction. The way prions spread from FDCs to peripheral nerve fibres is uncertain, as
connection between an FDC and a nerve synapse is unusual (Felten and Felten, 1991). However,
intracellular transfer of prions to the peripheral nervous system (PNS) could occur via exosomes
from FDCs (Fevrier et al., 2004). Dendritic cells may also potentially transfer these agents to the
PNS (Aucouturier et al. 2001). Distance between FDCs and peripheral nerves affects the rate of
neuroinvasion, which means it may be faster through lymphoid tissues situated closer to peripheral
nerves than others (e.g. Peyer s patches compared to the

The Popularity Of Tea During The Tang And Song Eras Of China
On the topic of world beverages, there is none such as ubiquitous as tea. Within history, tea has
played a large role in many monumental world events, from the American Revolution to the Opium
Wars. Though the origin of this bitter, fragrant juice is uncertain, it is known that tea cultivation is
rooted in China. Though teahad been known and consumed prior, it was not until the Tang dynasty
that a level of artistry surrounded tea was achieved. By the Tang dynasty and up through the Song,
tea had developed a rather contradictory identity. To tea purists such as Lu Yu, tea was an almost
spiritual art, closely related to the ideals of Buddhism, to be savored individually in a quest for
enlightenment. To many others, tea was a commercial and social drink, the facilitator of social
gatherings and a luxury indicator of social rank. This paper will explore the development of these
contrasting identities through the unprecedented expansion of the popularity of tea during the Tang
and Song eras of China, and its relationship with poetry, religion, and social conventions.
Moderation is the very essence of tea. Tea does not lend itself to extravagance. Thus is said about
tea by Lu Yu, the Tang dynasty author of the groundbreaking work ambitiously titled The Classic of
Tea. One cannot understand the mindset surrounding tea during the Tang dynasty without
knowledge of this monumental work. Lu Yu s role in spreading tea culture throughout the Tang
dynasty was vast to the extent that

Marshall University
Marshall University is very special to its community because of its founded history, cataclysmic
plane crash, and its ability to come together as a town when tragedy strikes. Marshall University
was originally founded in 1837 for the children of local farmers. The local citizens of what is now
Huntington, West Virginia petitioned the General Assembly of Virginia to establish an advanced
educational program named after Chief Justice John Marshall. By 1850, financial support and the
instruction given had deteriorated. Trustees then decided it was time to give it up and offered it to
the Western Virginia Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church. The church accepted and was

They were enrolled in three programs: the primary, academic, and the normal. The primary school
served children ages six to fourteen; the academic school equipped students for business and for
further education. The normal school trained teachers for their duties in the educational system.
Furthermore, the first class of normal school students graduated in June 1870.
From 1880 into the 1900 s, Marshall College went through many changes. Academia and the Music
department expanded, enrollment finally surpassed two hundred, and the business department was
established. In 1907, Lawrence J. Corby, the president, developed intercollegiate athletics. The
school also added an addition for alumni and College Hall, a dormitory for women. Additionally, in
1913, the legislation granted $158,000, $45,000 of that went to a new science building and a
gymnasium.
The years between 1915 and 1946 struck a steady growth in expansions, enrollment, and
improvement of a curriculum. Marshall s curriculum was then eligible to be a four year college in
1920, and awarded its first baccalaureate degrees in 1921. The school also had more teachers earing
terminal degrees, developed a student government, and the athletics department earned the
nickname the Thundering Herd. In spite of the Great Depression, a music building, student union,
two dormitories were built, and the Albert Gallatin Jenkins Laboratory School was established for

Field Trip Report
Waihi, Newmont Gold Mine, New Zealand
1.Introduction
Mining is an important activity, as it extracts the source of most objects, tools and items that are
used in many ways in society. There are drawbacks, however, as it brings environmental and social
impacts, like pollution of the waterways, change in the landscape and the concentration of labour
force. In Waihi, the mining plays an important role in sustaining the economy of the city, but it also
brings problems that have to be managed by the Newmont Gold Company. The focus of the field
trip is to locate the potential environmental issues that may be linked to mining by using a natural
and physical resource inventory of the Waikato Region and Bay of Plenty.
2.Resource Inventory
1.1 The Waikato Region
In the Waikato Region, it is possible to see the extensive use of its flat landscape for farming.
Most of the farming activity is composed of livestock, cows being the most abundant animal.
There is a small number of poultry farms. The forestry is mostly restricted to hilly areas, where
native vegetation has been put down. Cropland is abundant. The following table provides an
inventory of the key physical and natural resources of the area.

Statistical And Non Probabilistic Methods
3.7 Sampling Procedures and Techniques.
3.7.1 Sampling Method
The researcher will be using a combination of both probabilistic and non probabilistic method as the
research is largely qualitative in nature but there are elements of a quantitative nature. By using a
combination of sampling methods it will allow the research to be more realistic and not skewed.
The researcher will apply a non probability purposive method and using the Heterogeneous
sampling technique while analyzing the phenomenon at InterChem Limited as well as a probability
technique of a cluster to ascertain the influence of strategic innovation in the SME sector.
3.7.2 Sample Size
The researcher will be using a census as a result of the population size to ascertain the influence of
strategic innovation on Interchem. According to the central limit theorem which states that if the
minimum number with the sample is 50 or less then a census should be conducted. This is the
most appropriate technique to use due to the size of the population. The population at InterChem
limited is below 30 and they will be developed as the sample frame. The nature of this research is a
case study of Interchem Limited and how strategic innovation can influences it as an SME.
3.8 Data Analysis Technique
3.8.1 Data analysis plan.
The researcher will use largely qualitative data analysis which according to Glaser (1992) is any
analysis that produces findings or concepts as in grounded theory that are not arrived at by

The League Baseball Is The Only Major American Sports League
It is generally assumed with sports teams that the more you pay, the more you win. Without
further insight this sounds like a logical statement. But is it factual. Of the four major American
sports leagues all but one have a salary cap. A salary cap is defined as the maximum amount a team
can pay in player salaries before they are required to pay a luxury tax. Major League baseballis the
only major American sports league to not utilize a salary cap, thus making it an exemplary model
to investigate the abstract of this paper. There are several factors that determine the payroll of an
MLB franchise such as media rights, concession sales, and ticket revenue. Media rights are not
equal for all teams, thus some teams may have an unfair... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As alluded to earlier, MLB franchises are awarded exclusive rights to broadcast games in their
local markets creating a monopoly in the franchise s immediate area. It must also be taken into
account that when comparing attendance averages and price comparisons that not all ballparks
have the same capacity or have equal numbers of choice seats. Nor do they share the same number
of seats where there may be obstructions and prices are discounted. It must also be noted that not
all markets are equal in terms of population and demand for sports entertainment when there are
other professional sports franchises in that local market. With those disclaimers in place we can
now analyze if ticket demand is elastic, unit elastic or inelastic.
II. Elastic Demand Analysis Applying what is known about micro economic theory we can
equate that in a MLB team s local market the team is a single product firm and that it will
maximize profits when the additional cost of production is equal to the added revenue from
selling the product (marginal cost = marginal revenue). When a team sells more tickets, its
revenue will increase, unless the team decreases ticket prices to sell more tickets than the revenue
will be offset by the reduced ticket price. When the demand for tickets is elastic, lowering ticket
price will cause revenues to increase, since marginal revenue will be positive. When the demand for
tickets is unit elastic, revenues will neither

Issues and Debate of Anthropogenic Climate Change
In the last few decades, the issue of anthropogenic climate change (ACC) human caused climate
change has come to the forefront of public, political, and scientific awareness. There has been much
debate regarding the legitimacy of ACC, despite an article from the National Aeronautics and Space
Administration stating:
Ninety seven percent of climate scientists agree that climate warming trends over the past century
are very likely due to human activities, and most of the leading scientific organizations worldwide
have issued public statements endorsing this position.
With this in mind, it is important to examine the rationale behind this seemingly unfounded
opposition to ACC.
Organized Climate Change Denial by Dunlap and McCright (2011) introduces this rationale and
gives a face to this denial. They present the idea of a denial machine . This machine is made of
various different actors including conservative media, fossil fuel industries, and various front
groups these will be discussed in greater detail within the paper. Essentially, the motivations of the
various cogs (actors) vary from economic to ideological to personal, yet overall they rally around
shared opposition to governmental regulatory efforts to ameliorate climate change, such as
restrictions to carbon emissions. (source) A large factor in governmental regulatory efforts is public
opinion and, not coincidentally, there were significant declines in public belief of global warming in
2009 and 2010. This spread

Compare And Contrast Crime And Punishment In Ancient Egypt
This paper is to compare and contrast crime and punishment in the ancient Mesopotamia and
Egypt mainly from the following three perspectives: religion, the purpose of punishment and
women. In terms of religion, we can tell from the Laws of Hammurabi and the Egyptian papyri
that the views of religion were both considered to be supreme in the ancient states. But there are
some differences between the views of the religion, especially in the objective to which the
people of two states believed in respectively. In the Laws of Hammurabi, there are some examples
that prove the status of the nature, like the river, and, in some cases, the river was the symbol of
justice which could prove whether the accused were guilty or not. People believed... Show more

Ecological Perspective
The Ecological Perspective The ecological perspective conveys the elaborate transactions between
people and their environments (Greene, 2008). In order to understand someone, one must be able to
understand the environment that he/she is a part of. Relatedness, competence, niche and habit,
goodness of fit, and power are all important concepts that contribute to the ecological perspective.
Relatedness is the capacity to form humanrelationships or connect with other people (Greene,
2008). Greene (2008) proclaimed that the ability to relate and connect with other people begin with
consistent parenting. Antonio struggles in the ability to connect to others and creating relationships

People and their environment are interdependent upon one another, creating a process of adaptation
that is biological, psychological, social, and cultural (Robbins, 2011). Being unable to adapt can
create a lack of fit between the person and his/her environment, where one s needs are not met in
their environment, in which this case Antonio experiences. Antonio and his environment are unable
to depend on each other, having unsuccessful transactions between them. Antonio has a supportive
environment, with Hilda nurturing him as a mother, Rainbow Services as a comprehensive agency,

  • 2. Story Of The Warrior And The Captive Maiden Analysis The story Story of the Warrior and the Captive Maiden, is based on the obituary of Droctulft who was a warrior. The origin of the story is La Poesia, is an summarize Latin text, which the historian Paul the Deacon was able to preserved. In the first paragraph of the story, Droctulft is depicted as a glorify warrior who the people of Ravenna conveyed. Although Droctulft die defending the city he had been attacking, the people of Ravenna portrayed him as a man of kindness and ease. Droctulft is described as a complex character that conclusively dies for the enemy. According to the story, Droctulf was a white courageous, cruel and loyal individual. The descriptions given illustrate an individual who fits the character of a warrior from the beginning. By explaining his identify of a white male, who is brave and devoted is contrast from the character the audience sees at the end. The story further explains his attitude towards the city, in which states he assumed the city had more worth and valued than the faith he had sworn by. Similarities Between Dracula And Wide Sargasso Sea Dracula by Bram Stoker and Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys published in 1897 and 1966 respectively, both echo public and private societal expectations of women at the time. Stoker s novel was written during the birth of first wave feminism, a period where women were beginning to be seen as more than sexual objects for male pleasure. Women campaigned for female agency which resulted in the birth of the new woman . Similarly, Rhys novel focuses on the discrimination faced as a Creole woman suffering from mental illness. Thus, the ways in which both authors convey significant themes such as racism, genderdisparity and social class can be compared in further detail. Initially, the titles of both novels also provide a strong grounding to understanding the status of women at the time. Rhys novel refers to the Sargasso Sea, located in the Atlantic Ocean. This is known for the infamous Bermuda Triangle, described as an oceanic black hole where ships disappear under mysterious circumstances. One interpretation of this title could imply that characters may be imprisoned in their personal Bermuda Triangle , where Antoinette grapples with her racial identity as a white Creole. Furthermore, the Sargassum is a weed native to the Sargasso Sea, which was symbolic of neglect, devastation, and disorder. [1] This echoes the sentiments of the protagonist of the novella, Antoinette. Antoinette embodies the inherent misogyny prevalent during the 20th Century, where women were often reduced ... • 4. 4.0 Student Essay Simplifying Expressions While working on this problem I learned a lot about basic properties of addition and multiplication, such as distributive property, inverse property, commutative properties, etc. What s common about these problems is the order in which we are going to do the steps. The first step will always be to remove the parenthesis, which uses the distributive property. Second will always be combining like terms and adding related coefficients what we have been working on this week which is dealing with real numbers. Here is the solution to the first problem: 2a(a 5)+ 4(a 5) =2aa+2a( 5)+4a 4в‹…5 =2a^2 10a+4a 20 =2a^2 6a 20 The steps used to simplify this equation are as follows: First I remove all of the ... In the second problem I used the inverse property of addition. A religious individual may most gloriously carry out his or her own rituals, as a part of his or her cultural identity, but the moment, that person starts to build a wall of separation between the self and the rest of humanity, coaxed by the textual commands of a scripture, the healthy religiousness turns into dangerous fundamentalism, which is a threat to both the self and the society. (Abhijit Naskar). In the recent history of our society, the actions of religious extremists have driven people apart, and hatred has grown from a lack of ecumenism between those of different faiths. By focusing on the differences between religions, and not on the latent similarities that inherently exist between different faiths, people become blinded to how various religions are all rooted in the same philosophies. However, by focusing on the similarities of different religion, through philosophies, rituals, or teachings, we can then learn how to tear down walls, grow as people, and become cognitive of our joint humanity. With the necessity of ecumenical relations in our community, it serves humans to see the similarities between the faiths that can divide us. On such similarity exists between the rituals of the Christian Rosary and the Buddhist tradition of PrayerWheels, both are physical guides for repetitive prayers and personal reflection and meditation. A shield volcano is tall and broad with flat, rounded shape. The Hawaiian volcanoes are built by countless outpourings of lava that advance great distances from a central summit vent or a group of vents. Extensive study of the Hawaiian Islands revealed that they are constructed of a myriad of thin basaltic lavaflows averaging a few meters thick intermixed with relatively minor amounts of pyroclastic ejected material. During eruptions these outpourings help keep these volcanoes safe. When these volcanoes erupt lava fountains out form the volcanoand is hot liquid lava is thrown into the air but usually not very high. The lava normally flows easily, and does not explode. These volcanoes also only explode if water some how gets into the vent. Mount St. Helens is composite volcano, which are also known as strato volcanoes. They are tall, symmetrically shaped, with steep sides, sometimes rising 10,000 feet high. They are built of alternating layers of lava flows, volcanic ash, and cinders. The large and generally cone shaped volcanoes form along plate boundaries called subduction zones where one of the earths plates melts as it falls back into the earth`s mantle. Only if we act to improve water use in agriculture will we meet the acute freshwater challenges facing humankind over the coming 50 years [4]. As the world changes over the next fifty years, the water struggles that we endure will be seen in the food production around the world. There are many factors that contribute to this occurring, including global climate change, the increase in water security vulnerability, and the phenomenon that the world has hit peak water. Briefly summarize the four phases of the 30 Years War. How did the war change the economic and political landscape of the Holy Roman Empire? The four phases of the thirty years can be summarised as the Bohemian phase, Danish phase, Swedish phase and French phase, which induced the Holy Roman Empire to lose money and caused the empire to split. The Bohemian phase from 1618 to 1625 was sparked by the defenestration of Prague. This incited civil war between the Catholics League and the Protestant Union. The Catholics won the first phase through the defeat of the Protestants in the Battle of the White Mountain in 1620. The Danish phase, from 1625 to 1629,... Explain the top three reasons for its rise in the 17th century Absolutism, where there is a person who has full political power over a country, rose in the 17th century due to the increase in surplus, mercantilism and the standing armies. Due to the increase in surplus in these countries, the government had more money to spend. Mercantilism also contributed to the economic growth of countries that adopted it. The increased money from these meant increased funding for standing armies. The standing armies gave the king an army without needing to call on the nobles, thereby lessening their importance and power, and heightening the king s. 3. When Pooky and his friends confront Sonny, they mock him saying, You gonna build another rocket? asked Tom Tickle, one of the single miners who lived in the Club House. Tom was friendly. The argument is not whether poaching is a problem or not, it is obviously a problem, it is an argument on how humanity should go about stopping poaching. One side of that argument believes that going after the people behind poaching, those who buy poached ivoryfor example, is more important than stopping poachers on the ground . They would be more likely to support a United Nations sanction on poaching than providing funding for ranger groups. The other side of the argument is that the effort to stop poaching has become an all out war and needs to be treated as such. Water Consumption Report On Drinking Consumption Water Consumption Report Student Reference (2137178F) Abstract Although a large majority of planet Earth s surface comprises water, only a small percentage of it is in fact suitable for use. The human population is growing rapidly and the demand for fresh water is steadily increasing. The aim of this investigation is to measure personal water consumption over a period of three weeks and compare the collected data with the average water consumption of individuals in countries at both ends of the economic spectrum. The results of personal consumption show that over a one week period, an average of 713.17 litres of water were consumed (discounting embedded water), which breaks down to a daily average of 101.88 litres. Although this is lower than the average daily consumption of 150 litres for an individual in the UK , measures can be nevertheless be taken to reduce fresh water consumption, such as placing bricks inside the toilet cistern, using the washing machine less often, and using a weaker flow setting on the shower. Introduction Issues relating to water are increasingly becoming a major global concern. The need for fresh water is fundamental to human life and an increasing percentage of the global population do not have access to it. In 2011 the UN Secretary General expressed how Safe drinking water and basic sanitation are intrinsic to human survival, well being and dignity .) . Many new elements of writing and style were evolving and authors all over the world were finding ways to present what they felt most passionate about. Some writers opened their readers up to newer ideas by the means of, as Ezra Pound once stated, making it new. Two writers in particular who did a fantastic job of this were Frederick Douglass and T.S. Eliot. Frederick Douglass s most popular work is his autobiography, The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass. In this story, Douglass makes romanticism new. On the contrast, T.S. Elliot is widely known for his poem, The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, in which he makes new of imagery. While Frederick Douglass and T.S. Eliot come from completely different backgrounds and write with different styles, they share a few commonalities as well as both being influences on literary society. Frederick Douglass was born into slavery in Talbot County, Maryland around the supposed year of 1818. Like many other slaves, his exact date of birth remains unknown. Douglass was an abolitionist for slavery as well as a supporter for women s rights. Fiedler model is considered the first highly visible theory to present the contingency approach. The in group members work harder and are more committed to task objectives. They are also expected to be totally committed and loyal to their leader. Conversely, other followers fall in the out group and are given low levels of choice or influence. Aggression, sarcasm and a self centered view are qualities seen in the out group. Prion Diseases Research Paper TSE: Unique Neuroinvasive Pathogens Overview Transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs), also referred to as prion diseases, are a range of progressive neurodegenerative diseases that affect various mammals, including humans. These diseases are caused by exposure to prions, infectious agents that result from the misfolded form of a glycoprotein found at the surface of cells: PrPc. The abnormal variant (PrPSc) is highly resistant to heat, chemicals and disinfection procedures such as formalin disinfection. It requires autoclaving at 137ВєC for up to an hour to sterilize contaminated materials. In some of these conditions prions first accumulate in the lymphoid tissues, which are found within the route of infection, before reaching the brain.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Infectious agents enter the brain through parasympathetic and sympathetic efferent fibres, with one difference: the parasympathetic route of infection does not involve the spinal cord. Instead, it goes directly to the CNS (McBride et al., 2001). TSE agents therefore reach the CNS in the opposite direction that efferent (motor) fibres follow (i.e. from the target organ towards the brain and not vice versa). As seen in Figure 3, infectious agents run through the splanchnic nerve (sympathetic) to reach the spinal cord thoracically. From there, they spread to the brain in caudal cranial direction. The way prions spread from FDCs to peripheral nerve fibres is uncertain, as connection between an FDC and a nerve synapse is unusual (Felten and Felten, 1991). However, intracellular transfer of prions to the peripheral nervous system (PNS) could occur via exosomes from FDCs (Fevrier et al., 2004). Dendritic cells may also potentially transfer these agents to the PNS (Aucouturier et al. 2001). Distance between FDCs and peripheral nerves affects the rate of neuroinvasion, which means it may be faster through lymphoid tissues situated closer to peripheral nerves than others (e.g. Peyer s patches compared to the ... Within history, tea has played a large role in many monumental world events, from the American Revolution to the Opium Wars. Though the origin of this bitter, fragrant juice is uncertain, it is known that tea cultivation is rooted in China. Though teahad been known and consumed prior, it was not until the Tang dynasty that a level of artistry surrounded tea was achieved. By the Tang dynasty and up through the Song, tea had developed a rather contradictory identity. To tea purists such as Lu Yu, tea was an almost spiritual art, closely related to the ideals of Buddhism, to be savored individually in a quest for enlightenment. To many others, tea was a commercial and social drink, the facilitator of social gatherings and a luxury indicator of social rank. This paper will explore the development of these contrasting identities through the unprecedented expansion of the popularity of tea during the Tang and Song eras of China, and its relationship with poetry, religion, and social conventions. An Introduction To Environmental Planning Programme AndrГ© DuГlio Cruz 1264710 Introduction to Environmental Planning ENVP106 15A Environmental Planning Programme FASS Word Count: 1925 University of Waikato Field Trip Report Waihi, Newmont Gold Mine, New Zealand 1.Introduction Mining is an important activity, as it extracts the source of most objects, tools and items that are used in many ways in society. There are drawbacks, however, as it brings environmental and social impacts, like pollution of the waterways, change in the landscape and the concentration of labour force. In Waihi, the mining plays an important role in sustaining the economy of the city, but it also brings problems that have to be managed by the Newmont Gold Company. The focus of the field trip is to locate the potential environmental issues that may be linked to mining by using a natural and physical resource inventory of the Waikato Region and Bay of Plenty. 2.Resource Inventory 1.1 The Waikato Region In the Waikato Region, it is possible to see the extensive use of its flat landscape for farming. Most of the farming activity is composed of livestock, cows being the most abundant animal. There is a small number of poultry farms. The forestry is mostly restricted to hilly areas, where native vegetation has been put down. Cropland is abundant. The following table provides an inventory of the key physical and natural resources of the area. AreaActivity Description of the areaType of Resource Waikato PlainsUsed for farming ... • 48. Statistical And Non Probabilistic Methods 3.7 Sampling Procedures and Techniques. 3.7.1 Sampling Method The researcher will be using a combination of both probabilistic and non probabilistic method as the research is largely qualitative in nature but there are elements of a quantitative nature. By using a combination of sampling methods it will allow the research to be more realistic and not skewed. The researcher will apply a non probability purposive method and using the Heterogeneous sampling technique while analyzing the phenomenon at InterChem Limited as well as a probability technique of a cluster to ascertain the influence of strategic innovation in the SME sector. 3.7.2 Sample Size The researcher will be using a census as a result of the population size to ascertain the influence of strategic innovation on Interchem. According to the central limit theorem which states that if the minimum number with the sample is 50 or less then a census should be conducted. This is the most appropriate technique to use due to the size of the population. The population at InterChem limited is below 30 and they will be developed as the sample frame. The nature of this research is a case study of Interchem Limited and how strategic innovation can influences it as an SME. 3.8 Data Analysis Technique 3.8.1 Data analysis plan. The researcher will use largely qualitative data analysis which according to Glaser (1992) is any analysis that produces findings or concepts as in grounded theory that are not arrived at by ... • 49. The League Baseball Is The Only Major American Sports League It is generally assumed with sports teams that the more you pay, the more you win. Without further insight this sounds like a logical statement. But is it factual. Of the four major American sports leagues all but one have a salary cap. A salary cap is defined as the maximum amount a team can pay in player salaries before they are required to pay a luxury tax. Major League baseballis the only major American sports league to not utilize a salary cap, thus making it an exemplary model to investigate the abstract of this paper. There are several factors that determine the payroll of an MLB franchise such as media rights, concession sales, and ticket revenue. Media rights are not equal for all teams, thus some teams may have an unfair... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As alluded to earlier, MLB franchises are awarded exclusive rights to broadcast games in their local markets creating a monopoly in the franchise s immediate area. It must also be taken into account that when comparing attendance averages and price comparisons that not all ballparks have the same capacity or have equal numbers of choice seats. Nor do they share the same number of seats where there may be obstructions and prices are discounted. It must also be noted that not all markets are equal in terms of population and demand for sports entertainment when there are other professional sports franchises in that local market. With those disclaimers in place we can now analyze if ticket demand is elastic, unit elastic or inelastic. II. Elastic Demand Analysis Applying what is known about micro economic theory we can equate that in a MLB team s local market the team is a single product firm and that it will maximize profits when the additional cost of production is equal to the added revenue from selling the product (marginal cost = marginal revenue). When a team sells more tickets, its revenue will increase, unless the team decreases ticket prices to sell more tickets than the revenue will be offset by the reduced ticket price. When the demand for tickets is elastic, lowering ticket price will cause revenues to increase, since marginal revenue will be positive. When the demand for tickets is unit elastic, revenues will neither ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. Issues and Debate of Anthropogenic Climate Change In the last few decades, the issue of anthropogenic climate change (ACC) human caused climate change has come to the forefront of public, political, and scientific awareness. There has been much debate regarding the legitimacy of ACC, despite an article from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration stating: Ninety seven percent of climate scientists agree that climate warming trends over the past century are very likely due to human activities, and most of the leading scientific organizations worldwide have issued public statements endorsing this position. With this in mind, it is important to examine the rationale behind this seemingly unfounded opposition to ACC. Organized Climate Change Denial by Dunlap and McCright (2011) introduces this rationale and gives a face to this denial. They present the idea of a denial machine . This machine is made of various different actors including conservative media, fossil fuel industries, and various front groups these will be discussed in greater detail within the paper. Essentially, the motivations of the various cogs (actors) vary from economic to ideological to personal, yet overall they rally around shared opposition to governmental regulatory efforts to ameliorate climate change, such as restrictions to carbon emissions. (source) A large factor in governmental regulatory efforts is public opinion and, not coincidentally, there were significant declines in public belief of global warming in 2009 and 2010. • 51. Compare And Contrast Crime And Punishment In Ancient Egypt This paper is to compare and contrast crime and punishment in the ancient Mesopotamia and Egypt mainly from the following three perspectives: religion, the purpose of punishment and women. In terms of religion, we can tell from the Laws of Hammurabi and the Egyptian papyri that the views of religion were both considered to be supreme in the ancient states. But there are some differences between the views of the religion, especially in the objective to which the people of two states believed in respectively. In the Laws of Hammurabi, there are some examples that prove the status of the nature, like the river, and, in some cases, the river was the symbol of justice which could prove whether the accused were guilty or not.
