Boxer In Animal Farm
In the allegorical novel, Animal Farm, by George Orwell, politically minded animals try to take
over a farm for themselves. They are run by a pig named Napoleon and a deputation of pigs. In
addition, they face multiple wars with their former farm keeper, who was an inebriate.Over
time, they start to become more like the humans. Moreover, the farm would not have survived if
it weren t for the work of the loyal, hard working, and dedicated horse, Boxer. In the novel, Boxer
is very loyal, and a devotee, to Comrade Napoleon. For example, If Comrade Napoleon says it, it
must be true. (18) This shows that he is very loyal to Napoleon and he listens to every word he
says. In addition, he sticks to Napoleon and believes him under any circumstances. In conclusion,

For example, Nothing could have been achieved without Boxer, whose strength seemed equal to
that of all the rest of the animals put together. (20) This shows that Boxer is hard working and
uses it to his advantage, and will never canvas, or request support, from other animals.. In
addition, Boxer has a tremendous amount of strength, and uses it to help the farm, which will
embolden the other animals. In conclusion, Boxer is a very hard working horse, and uses it for
the good of the farm. In addition, Boxer has a lot of dedication towards the farm and his fellow
animals. For example, The solution, as I see it, is to work harder. From now onwards, I shall get
up a full hour earlier in the mornings. (27) This shows that Boxer is willing to do anything, if it is
for the good of the farm. Additionally, Boxer s solution to the failure on the farm is to work harder
for the farm, and this might persuade the other animals to become devotees to Boxer and his
actions.. In conclusion, Boxer has a tremendous amount of dedication for the farm and his fellow

Essay My experience at the Riverside Metropolitan Museum
INTRODUCTION Some say that it is better not to dwell on the past because it cannot be changed.
To these people, it is not necessarily bad to reminisce on what has happened throughout the years,
but it is better to focus on what is taking place right now. They believe that the present is another
chance to start fresh and anew without letting past experiences burden them. However, what they
do not seem to realize is that the past, present, and future are interrelated. The present is a result of
the past, while the future depends entirely on the choices, (and course of action for those choices),
that are made in the present. With that being said, studying humanity and past cultures are
significant to society. Attempting to understand why... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

History departments. Although not all of the exhibits are shown year round, the display for the
Native Americans of Southern California is. It features the Chumash, Tongva, Serrano, Luiseno,
Cahuilla, and Kumeyaay tribes. There are also some exhibits for non Californian tribes such as
the Navajo and Pueblo peoples. Out of all of the aforementioned tribes, this paper mainly focuses
on the Luiseno, Kumeyaay, and Navajo. These three stood out the most because of the contents
within each of the exhibits. The artifacts associated with each culture were unique and eye

which consisted of artifacts relating to tools and equipment as well as pictures of early residents
in order to show how Riverside developed over time. In addition to this, different time periods in
American history were displayed such as the Civil War. It contained personal portraits, old models

Write An Essay On Mercy Entering Therapy
RACHEL SOPHER
Despite her diminutive size and quiet disposition, Mercy commanded my complete attention. So
small as to appear child like, and dressed in loose fitting clothes that hid her slight form, she
entered my office timidly, and started sessions in silence, repeatedly waving her hand across her
face in characteristically self effacing gestures before speaking. But her somber self possession
and meek temperament stood in stark contrast to her ferocious energy; Mercy was dead serious.
She came to therapy after being forced to give up a promising career as a modern dancer due to a
chronic knee injury. Finding herself unmoored, lost and alone in the city, with no familyor friends
she could rely on for support, Mercy struggled for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Entering therapy, then, was a terrifying prospect for Mercy, filled with an infinite potential for
exposure and shame. The differences between us were palpable from the start; binaries of black and
white, African and American, anti establishment and more conventionally minded filled the room
with questions of compatibility, divergent values and the weight of our disparate social identities.
Though a perfunctory investigation of any feelings she had about the differences between us was
quickly dismissed, the starkness of our dissimilarities haunted our interactions from the start. Mercy
spoke in fragments of sentences punctuated by long silences, and I worked hard to piece together
her traumatic history. Though born in the United States, Mercy did not identify with American
customs or values; nor did she connect with her family s endless mourning for the traumatic loss of
their country. The seemingly unbridgeable gap in our experiences remained on the outskirts of my
awareness, a dull but insidious preconscious impression that our differences could destroy any
approach at mutual understanding. I instinctively dealt with this perceived threat by trying to
completely immerse myself in Mercy s experience, in effect, attempting to hold back any aspects of
myself that could obtrude or offend,

Compare And Contrast Massachusetts Bay And Jamestown
Jamestown V.S. Massachusetts Bay Jamestown and Massachusetts Bay were the first English
colonies formed in North America in the early 1600 s. While the Jamestown settlers searched for
gold, the Massachusetts Bay colonist came to escape persecution in England and obtain religious
freedoms. Although Jamestown and MassachusettsBay were both English colonies, they both share
many similarities as well as differences socially, economically, and politically. Social similarities
include the dealings with Native Americans. (examples of each) During the time of these colonies
settlement, they both had accounts with Native Americans in the area. In the early times of settling
each colony had friendly relations with the natives. Jamestown formed alliances with the Powhatan
people, while Massachusetts Bay fell into relations with the Pequot tribe. Each settlement relied on
Native Americans to survive in the New World. The Powhatan people taught colonist John Rolfe
how to grow tobacco which was in high demand in Europe at the time. This would later contribute

Jamestown focused on agriculture, more specifically in the production of tobacco or Brown
Gold . However, Massachusetts Bay had poor land and weather, and decided to focused on small
farming, but relied heavily on trading ties with Britain to create a steady economy. Because
farming was a large deal in Jamestown, indentured servants were used to help boost production.
However, after the Bacon s Rebellion in 1676, the upper class/ plantation owners turned to a new
form of servitude, slavery. Slavery greatly increased economy even though slaves were expensive,
they worked for life and could reproduce. It also helped with the trading going between America,
Europe, and Africa. The part of this trading system became known as the middle passage. However,
slavery isn t seen as much throughout Massachusetts because of the lack of large scale

Taming Of The Shrew Irony
A comedy is a work thats intended purpose is to make an audience laugh. Not all comedies are
created equally though. Some comedies are better than others. This is based on the characteristics
of a comedy and how they are executed within the work. After reading and analyzing The Taming
of the Shrew and The Importance of Being Earnest as comedies, I have come to the conclusion that
The Taming of the Shrew is a better comedy. One of the typical characteristics of a comedy are
puns. A pun is a deliberate confusion of words or phrases for humorous effect. We can see puns all
throughout Taming of the Shrew. One example of this is when Grumio and Petruchio have a
misunderstanding at Hortensio s gate. The misunderstanding happens when Petruchio asks... Show

A satire exposes and criticizes foolishness and corruption of an individual or a society by using
humor, irony, exaggerating, or ridicule. The satire in the Taming of the Shrew occurs when
Petrucio states I come to wive wealthily in Padua; if wealthy, then happily in Padua. (Shakespeare
1.2.76 7). This brings to attention the problem with the motivation for marriage in society back
then. This same problem is also brought to attention within The Importance of Being Earnest. This
satire occurs when Lady Bracknell expresses that A moment, Mr. Worthing. A hundred and thirty
thousand pounds? And in the Funds? Miss Cardew seems to me a most attractive young lady,
now that I look at her. (Wilde 63). Both of these plays bring up the same problem with society.
However, the Taming of the Shrew brings more attention to the problem because there is more of
an exaggeration. Baptista wants his older daughter married off first but requires there to be love in
the relationship. He then will allow his younger daughter to marry the man with the most property
and money. This is brings more attention to the problem because of the irony that the girl he wants
married off quickest has to be loved but his second daughter has to marry someone with

An Inquiry Into The Nature And Causes Of The Wealth Of...
Management has not always been the way it is as of today. There were many people that warped
and shaped the ideals of management throughout history. A few of those people are Adam Smith,
Henry Fayol, Mary Parker Follett, and Henry Gantt. We see many of their principles and theories in
modern management techniques. I have personally seen their effects in my management
experiences. Another company that has great management ideals is Zappos.
The Industrial Revolution began around 1760. Shortly after in 1776 Adam Smith published his
book, An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations. This book affects the
Industrial Revolution, as well today s modern economics. Adam smith is known as, the father of
economics. (Economist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think this is a major reason why he felt so strongly that free trade benefits the market and
everyone for that matter. This concept applies today. For the most part, the United States trades
with many different countries. The trading helps make products much cheaper as well as
production much higher because people focus on what they re good at.
Although Adam is great there are others that have impacted the way business s run throughout
history. Some of them even have an impact on today s society. One of these people that had an
impact on management thought in history is Henry Fayol. An online article by The Mind Tools
Editorial team says that, Fayol, and others like him, are responsible for building the foundations of
modern management theory. Fayol had these fourteen principles of management; one of them
being just like Adam s ideas, the division of work. Another is the Unity of Command; this is
Fayol s idea that employees should have only one direct supervisor. Another two are Equity and
Stability of Tenure of Personnel. Equity is his concept that managers should be fair to staff at all
times, both maintaining discipline as necessary and acting with kindness where appropriate.
Stability of Tenure of Personnel is his principle that managers should try to keep employee turnover
at a low rate. Although the last two are considered common sense today,

This can be seen in Figure 2, which states The kabuki stage is equipped with various mechanical
contrivances for dramatic effect. One of these is the Seri, a platform that can be raised and
lowered from below the stage to make actors appear and disappear Nowadays, this is motor driven.
Figure 2 was a much earlier depiction of the stage, now it is much more intricate. There are over
fifteen aspects to the stage that make it unique to Kabuki theatre. Each one holds an important
aspect. It is more in depth in Figure 3. Primarily, when starting from the top left and working the
way down comes the mawaributal, which is known as the revolving stage. The mawaributal
used to be operated only using human power and provide for simple scene changes by simply
revolving the center section of the stage. Not only does it allow all of the audience to view the

Gay Marriage Vs Same Sex Marriage
Since before the public ratified the Constitution and adopting the Bill of Rights and even prior to
Marbury v. Madison establishing the doctrine of judicial review, the clergy solemnization power
existed as an embedded feature of this nation s marriage traditions. The power both allows
Solemnization laws grant officials near unbridled discretion within the statutory limitations in
deciding who they will perform marriageceremony, and to ministers who perform religious
marriages to marry couples legally under the civil law. Also, the Fourteenth Amendment recognizes
same sex marriagein all 50 States; It described marriage as a purely secular institution, which serves
governmental interests. In the light of, Justice Kennedy highlighted that religious organizations can
advocate base on the belief that same sex marriage should not be condoned (Horwitz, P. 2014).
Justice Kennedy stated that many who deem same sex marriage to be wrong reach that conclusion
based on decent and honorable religious or philosophical premises, and neither they nor their
beliefs are disparaged here. But when that sincere, personal opposition becomes enacted law and
public policy, the necessary consequence is to put the imprimatur of the State itself on an exclusion
that soon demeans or stigmatizes those whose own liberty is then denied. Under the Constitution,
same sex couples seek in marriage the same legal treatment as opposite sex couples, and it would

Synthetic Proteins And Cellular Components Essay
Now with the GFP in the lysate solution with other soluble proteins and cellular components, we
need a strong and specific process that targets only the GFP and not the other parts of the
mixture. This strong and specific process used is called affinity chromatography, in which one
substance can be purified by using its specific interaction with another substance. In this case,
GFP has six histidines at its N terminus which can easily bond to Ni2+and this interaction can be
used to purify the GFP from the lysate by using a Ni NTA column. This Ni NTA column allows
for solutions to follow through except components that can easily bond to the immobilized Ni2+
ion in the column s silica matrix. Before we could use the Ni NTA column, we had to equilibrate
it by adding some binding buffer to the column that washes and prepares the column and then
centrifuge. After the column is ready for use, the bacterial lysate can be added to the column, with
some left for later analysis. The column is then centrifuged in order for the mixture to flow
through the matrix and separate those components that can bind to Ni2+ (not necessarily only
GFP) and those that simply flowed through. The liquid from the collection tube is collected and
transferred into a tube and labeled F for flow through (Figure 1, lane F). At this point the GFP is
bound to Ni2+ in the matrix of the Ni NTA column, however it is not alone. Many other proteins
and cellular components may have bound to the column as well due

Carl Sandburg s Grass
How would you feel if you knew you were standing on soil where thousands of bloody bodies
were buried underneath? How would you feel thinking about the fact that humans left their
carcasses to decompose on the earth, leaving grass and Mother Nature to cover up the mess?
This issue is discussed from the grass s point of view in a poem written at the end of the
atrocious Civil War and WWI, where many people were killed. Through the use of imperative
tense verbs and the tension between first and third person pronouns, Carl Sandburg displays Grass
s obligatory feeling to cover up the mess created by inferior humans in his poem Grass. The first
technique Sandburg employs to show this idea is through the use of verbs in the imperative tense.
In general,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the poem, the speaker uses first person pronouns such as I and me, and third person
pronouns such as them. Since one pronoun is not used throughout the entire poem, some tension
is created between both pronouns/groups of people. The first person pronouns refer to the Grass,
whereas the third person pronouns refer to humans and the bodies of soldiers. This difference in
pronouns amplifies the fact that the Grass and humans are dissimilar entities and that there is also
a difference in superiority between the two. The use of first person pronouns from the point of
view of the Grass makes it seem as if the Grass is the one in control, which is what it wants the
reader to think. The tension with the third person pronouns makes the humans come across as
inferior. If the first person pronouns came from the humans and the third person pronouns came
from the Grass, then this feeling would be switched. With the way Sandburg wrote the poem, the
Grass takes charge and wants the humans to leave before they make an even bigger mess so it can
get cleaned up. The Grass is confident that it can clean up the mess better than the humans will.
Ultimately, although grass is not human, it still has the power to clean up all of the messes made
by humanity. In the poem Grass, Carl Sandburg portrays the Grass as more superior than humans

Malcolm Gladwell s Blink
Can we know something without knowing how we know it? This is precisely the question that
Malcolm Gladwell sets out to ponder in his book Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking.
Looking at scientific experiments from laboratories nation wide, Gladwell explores the fascinating
phenomenon of thin slicing , or making snap judgments without consciously engaging in the
decision making process. These thin slices , Gladwell asserts, are surprisingly accurate sometimes
even more so than the decisions we make after long hours of careful consideration and reflection.
One particularly interesting question raised by this study is the implications it brings to bear on the
process of thought. Our brains, home to both our conscious and unconscious... Show more content

Gladwell calls for the acceptance of the notion that sometimes we can know something without
knowing how we know it, and he criticizes American culture for demanding that all knowledge by
logically justified and foot noted. But isn t Blink just this sort of endeavor? The books a whole
strives to scientifically justify and foot note the process of the adaptive unconscious and thin
slicing. What bothers us so much about the notion of a thinking unconscious that even its most
vocal advocate reverts to a conscious thought process in his attempt to argue the adaptive

Introduction Of A Primary Alcohol
Substitution
5. Introduction In this experiment, a primary alcohol was converted into a primary bromoalkane
using hydrobromic acid. The reaction was done under reflux and then distilled to obtain a product
of higher purity. The degree of the alkyl halide obtained from the experiment was tested with silver
nitrate and sodium iodide. An infrared (IR) spectra and the weight of the product were obtained for
further analysis. The IR gave information on the present functional groups and product weight was
used to calculate the percent yield.
6. Data and Results The product obtained after reflux was a yellow liquid. With the halide tests, the
product reacted faster with sodium iodide to form a precipitate than with silver nitrate. This
indicates that the degree of the product was primary and that bromine did replace the alcohol
group. The IR of the product showed four peaks at 3326.36, 2932.86, 1465.34, and 1028.73.
These peaks indicate O H, C H, C H3, and C O bonds, respectively, within the product. 2.032
grams of product were recovered from the reaction. With this, a percent yield of 27.14% was
calculated. 7. Discussion and Conclusion Nucleophilic aliphatic substitution is the replacement of
one group for another at a saturated, sp3 hybridized carbon atom. This process is often used to
interconvert functional groups, such as in the preparation of alkyl halides. In these reactions,
nucleophiles attack the carbon atom which the electronegative leaving group breaks its bond

Utilizing the passive oddball paradigm, the present study compared the neural processes underlying
the discrimination of the high rising and low rising tones in Cantonese between two groups of
typically developed native speakers differing critically in their production of the rising tone contrast.
The design allowed us to gain insights in the online processing of the two highly similar contour

the longer discrimination latency demonstrated by the [в€’Pro+Per] compared with the [+Pro+Per]

Based on the results of auditory transcription of tone productions by participants of this study,
the major confusion pattern among speakers with non distinctive production was T5 produced
as T2, which seemed to align with the acoustic analyses. The acoustic forms of T5 were found to
approximate those of T2 in terms of F0 offset and amplitude rise time [see Fig. 2(a) and Table
III]. For the ERP findings, early components were elicited in the T2/T5 condition from the
permutation test for both groups, whereas an early component in the T5/T2 condition was
observed only in the [+Pro+Per] group. These results are particularly interesting as temporal cues
are generally recognized as secondary or concomitant to the primary cue of F0 in the literature of

Gulliver As A Misanthrope Essay
Misanthropic undercurrents have often been detected in Gulliver s Travels, usually unearthed and
expounded in connection to the fourth book of the travelogue. Through Gulliver, the fourth book
voices vehement misanthropy, with propounding the peaceful life of Houyhnhnms as an ideal
model. Gulliver is the resident misanthrope, detesting corrupted humannature and desiring to live as
a recluse. However, a close reading of the text provides us with a contradicting opinion, that of Swift

remotely possible. They can t be corrected by any role models even if it be the glorious

for correcting humankind s follies and vices. Earlier, he had sought them to mend their natures by
his travelogue s voiced morals, if they were amenable to Reason. He had graciously given them six
months to reform, but to no avail. Humankind seemed to be inherently corrupted, and his ambitious
project of reforming Yahoos was perhaps absurd. Gulliver s hatred for humans, even for his own
family is quite evident by the letter s tenor. Moreover, such vehement misanthropy has to be traced

if you choose to sleep in you may end up running behind on your scheduled activities. When you
make the choice to get out of bed you are taking into account what the positive future state of
nature will be if you proactively prepare for the day. The fact that you chose to get out of bed
denotes that you mentally assessed all the possible alternatives and decided getting ready is the
choice that leads to the best possible outcome in the future. You may have contemplated the
choice to stay in bed and considered that the warm embrace of your bed was more important than
making it to work on time. No matter what the decision is we all use logic to choose between
two or more alternatives and, based on the probable future state of nature, make the choice
which best suits our need. In the business world, managers are placed in a position to make
decisions. The request for a decision can come from different areas. A superior may request a
manager to make a decision that impacts the organization in some way. In most cases this type of
decision must be made by the appointed manager and is not eligible for delegation. There may be
some cases when a subordinate may ask the manager to make a decision in order

My Nana In My Life
As a young adult I often find myself staring at the clock watching it change second by second,
minute by minute, wondering why it goes so slow when we have so much time. Though something
I ve learned throughout the past few years is the doleful reality that we don t get to choose how
much time we spend on this earth, the greatest thing we can do is take our allotted timeand occupy
it wisely, by spending it with people we love and creating memories no amount of time can erase.
My nana was someone who throughout my life, always pushed me to do my best. She continually
inspired me to be strong and independent, while never letting me forget it s okay to lean on others
when you re down. It was the simple thingsshe did that made me want to follow her every step; the
way her sparkling sapphire eyes brought life to every conversation, the way she danced around
the kitchen to Michael Buble while she cleaned, or the astounding way she always knew what to
say to exile my fears. There was an aura about her that drew people in, she was the type of person
to make a friend in the doughnut isle at Meijer and call them once a month to see how they re
doing (true story); she was truly pure and selfless. Everybody deserves to have someone like my
nana in their lives to pick them up when they fall, to comfort them when they re scared, but most
importantly to show them how to be strong and level headed when life challenges you in the most
unexpected ways. I was thirteen when

Why Is Lou Gehrig Important
Have you ever wondered if there was a legend or two in each baseball team. Lou Gehrig is
undeniably courageous because He was an excellent ballplayer, Also he was a respectful person,
and He would always Persevere. My first example showed how Lou Gehrig was an excellent
person. On August 17, 1933, New York Yankees
first baseman Lou Gehrigplays in his 1,308th
consecutive game, breaking former Yankee Everett Scott s record for consecutive games played,
This would be excellence because he had broken the record for most consecutive games. That

An Outsider Contract
As companies are artificial entities, those who are elected to manage them are acting in their
directing mind and will. It appears that an outsider contracts with a company while it is the director
who negotiate the contract and who make representations on behalf of the company. So it is
essential that those who manage companies (directors) be engaged in appropriate duties.
In this article I will specify the director s fiduciary duties contained by directors being loyal and
faithful to the company, as well as being care and diligence, then expound the dutis breached in
Cook v Deeks case.
1.The duty to act in good faith: directors must genuinely believe that they are acting for, and in the
interests of, the company.
It means directors must honestly act for the interests of the company, and by company, generally it
means the company as a whole rather than some specific indicidual s interests.
However, it is only one of the various factors relevant to a courts consideration of whether they
have acted in good faith where directors make decisions affecting their company s interests their
own view of their conduct. which means that directors will not necessarily comply with their duty
merely because they have an honest belief that they are acting in the company s best interest, which

Individualism In Defoe s The Fortunate Mistress
The neoclassical time period served to reinvent the notion of how literature was presented within
society, working to introduce several crucial concepts that worked to alter individual perception,
such as identity, and construct new ways of thinking. One instance of this newfound individualism
can be viewed in Defoe s narrative, The Fortunate Mistress, in which a woman recounts her
personal experience and transformation from a virtuous woman to a whore in response to
unforeseen and unavoidable situations. Critical interpretations of the narrative have neglected to
recognize the significance of how Roxana s role in society and actions depict her as an archetype
for the early feminist individual On the contrary, the majority of critics tend to make the focal point
the end of the novel in order to solidify the argument that the story was abruptly left unfinished and
obscure in nature. As Molesworth puts it, a friendship that has thus far been marked by intimacy,
candor, and forthrightness lapses into an unfamiliarity marked by timidity and apprehension
(Molesworth 495). The tendency to interpret the ending in such a manner has lead to the viewing
of Roxana as an unsuccessful individual, who attempted to deny the norms of social behavior, and
as a result of this, was unable to overcome the obstacles presented and ultimately failed. Be that as it
may, when taking into consideration how Roxana utilizes perception and reflection to analyze her
past experiences, using this

Plea Bargains In Criminal Law
What is a plea bargain a person may ask? According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary, a please
agreement is an agreement by which someone accused of a crime admits to a less serious crime in
order to be given a less severe punishment. (Webster Dictionary). Plea bargain is the most critical
process in the criminal justicesystem. The Prosecutor may ask the defendant for a guilty plea in
exchange for a reduced or even suspended sentence. Now do you have to take the plea bargain
when the prosecutor offers it? The answer is no you don t but you have to stand trial. There are a

Many people are affected by the use of plea bargains in a positive way. For one defendants who
could be facing multiple charges and potential years in jail, has the potential to get multiple charges
dropped as well getting a significantly reduced sentence. In the judge s case, the advantage of
accepting a plea bargain agreement is that the judge does not need to schedule and hold a trial.
Judges also know about jails being overcrowded, so it is also in the public s interest to filter out
the people who don t need to be in jail for a long time out. The outcome of this process closes
cases quicker than the expected pace and also the court system would not be as overwhelmed
with court cases. One of the major reasons why people don t go to trial is because they realize
receiving the maximum charge if they go to trial will not be beneficial to them in the long run.
Even those who are never rearrested, getting a charge reduced from a felony to a misdemeanor
can show to be a critical benefit. Some employers may certainly not want to hire someone who
was convicted of a felony. Felony convictions may be used in certain court proceedings to discredit

Symptoms and Effects of Primary Insomnia Essay
Symptoms and Effects of Primary Insomnia The APA Dictionary of Pscyhology defines
insomnia as a difficulty in initiating or maintaining a restorative sleep that results in fatigue, the
severity of persistence of which causes clinically significant distress or impairment in
functioning (VandenBos, 2007, p. 485). The pineal gland in the brain produces melatonin that
works with circadian rhythms, which in time help control sleep (Gillam, 2009). By use of
polysomnography, researchers find that a possible cause of insomina is a longer period of stage
1 sleep and shorter periods of stages 3 and 4. The disorder predominantly exists among young
adults and middle aged people. Population surveys indicate a 1 year prevalence of insomnia... Show

Genetics link to the development of insomnia, but researchers have an uncertainty of how strong
the relationship (DSM IV TR, 2000).
The DSM IV TR (2000) states that insomnia generally affects women and older people; older
people and men have trouble staying asleep, and younger people normally have trouble achieving
sleep. Insomnia usually begins from a stress triggering element. Symptoms causes by the element
may get worse and lead to insomnia (DSM IV TR, 2000). Studies have conveyed two main concepts
related to insomnia: physiological, emotional and cognitive activation and how intense stress
affects the person who goes through times of hardship. If insomnia continues without prevention, it
may cause other disorders such as depression (Alexandru, B. V., RГіbert, B., Viorel, L., Vasile, B.
2009, p. 68).
Treatments
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and pharmacotherapy start the list of the many treatments for
insomnia. Cognitive behavior treatments aim toward adjusting participants thoughts of insomnia
and calming them (Alexandru, 2009). According to studies, CBT is effective for improving
insomnia symptoms in 70 80% of patients, and also has long term effects on the prevention of
recurrence (Okajima, I., Komada, Y., Inoue, Y. 2011, p. 24). Although pharmacotherapy is used
more frequently, it is not confirmed effective (Okajima, 2011). Alexandru (2009) compared a

Malcolm X Chapter Summary
In Malcolm X, Jason Hunter writes about the life, religion, death, and legacy of Malcolm X
throughout his life time, 1925 to 1965. Hunter utilizes a combination of primary and secondary
sources to explain the impact Malcolm X had on his time period, as well as the legacy left behind
for the later generations. Though mainly using The Autobiography of Malcolm X, the author is able
to highlight the details of X s lifetime and legacy. To do this, the author makes use of

chapters are broken down into smaller subchapter for the smaller important details. Hunter starts off

a quest. Foster provides five key details included in a quest: a quester, a place to go, a reason to
go there, challenges and tests on the way, and a real reason to go there (Foster 3). Furthermore,
Foster explains how the stated reason is not the reason to go on the quest. The quester goes on
the quest believing it is their life mission. Quote: The real reason for a quest is always self
knowledge (Foster 4). Personal Example: The Epic of Gilgamesh is an example of a quest.
Gilgamesh is the protagonist of the poem who makes a long quest in search for immortality.

Distracted Driving Is A Big Problem
According to Ashley Gaddis from Counterpoint, From 1999 to 2008, nearly fifty two thousand
people were killed in car crashes caused by distracted drivers (n.pag.). Distracted driving started
when technology became mobile and handheld. Many people have died and gotten injured from
people not paying attention to the road. This problem has been growing as technology
advances. Distracted driving is a big problem and there needs to be stronger penalties and laws
in place to deter people from distracted driving. Distracted driving has been a problem for a long
time. It has grown in the recent years because technology has become mobile and smaller.
Ashley Gaddis from Counterpoint says, A 2013 poll conducted by AT T found that half of
commuters admitted to texting while driving she also says, By 2007, one in six fatal car crashes
were caused by a distracted driver, resulting in over 5,900 deaths (n.pag.). Distracted driving can
be texting while driving or talking on the phone while you are driving. There are some opposers
that think that hands free technology is a good way to avoid distracted driving. Geoff Tyler
states that, Hands free devices that are suitable for use in the car can make holding a phone
conversation as close as technologically possible to holding a conversation with a passenger
(n.pag.). Even though hands free technology helps you talk and text easier, you still have to take
your eyes of the road to use it. One of the main points of distracted

Diffusion Lab
Introduction:
In nature, molecules are always in motion. When molecules move from high concentration to a low
concentration across the membrane, this is called diffusion. In other words, when particles go
down the concentration gradient, also called passive transport. A special type of diffusion is also
called osmosis, which is the diffusion of water, meaning water particles (H2O) move from high
concentration of water particles to a low concentration through a selectively permeable membrane.
Higher water concentration can also be phrased as higher water potential.
Diffusion is a spontaneous reaction that occurs to maintain equilibrium. Equilibrium is an equal
concentration of particles across the membrane. Dynamic Equilibrium is the equal exchange of
particles across the membrane. The purpose of this lab is to observe the physical effects of
osmosis and diffusion and to determine if it actually takes place. We hypothesized that, because
molecules diffuse down a concentration gradient, the mass of the dialysis tubes will increase, and
we believe that as the molarity increases, the percent of change in mass will also increase. Our final
hypothesis was that diffusion and osmosis will occur until ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Additionally, this lab proved that water can move across the selectively permeable membrane of

increase, and also that as the molarity increases, the percent of change in mass will also increase.

Symptoms of Narcissism in Eve Using Paradise Lost
Symptoms of Narcissism in Eve I. Introduction A. The allusion to pagan fable that most haunts
views of Milton s Eve is her Narcissus like behavior when, fresh from her Creator s hand, she
pauses at the verge of the mirror lake attracted by her own reflection and has to be called twice:
first by God, who leads her to Adam, and then, as she starts back toward the softer beauty of the
face in the lake, by Adam himself. (McColley 63). B. Eve s scene in which she observes herself at
the pool can be seen as a biblical form of the myth of Narcissus. C. I will argue, first, that Eve s

Scholars have attempted to come up with an answer which explains Eve s Narcissus like
tendencies. Some scholars feel that Eve s narcissism is an innocent stage of human development
since she quickly outgrows it. (McColley 63). One scholar feels that There is a certain beauty in
Eve s narcissism because it is the linking of above and below. (Norford 10, 14). Others, like
Jonathan Collett, gather the idea that Eve s scene at the pool is simply a biblical form of the
Narcissus myth. The myth of Narcissus, written by Ovid, is the tale of a hero whose self love
gradually brought him to his death. Although Eve s memorization of herself at the pool did not
ultimately take her life, there are many similarities which tie Eve s scene at the pool and the myth
of Narcissus together. Mr. Collett writes, This situation by the pool echoes Ovid s tale of
Narcissus and attributes to Eve a native vanity that issues in the Fall, sometimes finding additional
sinister implications in periodic resemblances between the creation of Eve and the birth of Sin.
(Collett 88). Throughout his article, Collett notes on similarities found not only between Narcissus
and Eve, but also between the birth of Eve and the birth of Sin. One similarity can be found in the
myth of Narcissus. Echo, a local nymph, crosses paths with Narcissus, and at first glance, notices

First rule, never try and get too fancy. Typically, people will briefly skim through your web
page, meaning it s likely that all those creative minute ideas that popped into your head were not
even put to good use. Research actually suggests that only 16% of readers read every page on a
web site. Many people are online because they are in a rush; they want their information now.
They don t want to have to sift through line after line of creative writing to find the information
they are looking for. Granted, as a writer there can be a fine balance to this, as you don t want to
become a robot writer. Adding in some creativity here and there can add interesting aspects to a
webpage. However, for the most part you want to keep it as simple as possible for your information
hungry audience.
Secondly, make sure you are writing for a lazy audience. Now I do not want to stereotype a lot of
online users, but the easier something can

A Rhetorical Analysis Of Cheyne Andersons Frustrated Ideas
Cheyne Andersons frustrated opinion piece frankly my dear: why terms of endearment are not
okay was posted on the Lip Magazine website in response to controversy surrounding endearing
comments made by Queensland MP Warren Entsch on Annabel Crabb s television show Kitchen
Cabinet. Throughout her article, Anderson expresses her disdain at endearing comments such as
love , sweetheart , and pet ; words of affection used to belittle and assert power. In an annoyed yet
rational tone and supported with anecdotes from her experiences whilst working in the customer
service industry, Anderson uses both inclusive language and metaphors to highlight the true
impacts of endearing language. Through the use of anecdotes from her time working in hospitality,

Satyam Scandal Essay
The Satyam scandal is a corporate scandal that worked in India in 2009 where Chairman
Ramalinga Raju confessed that the company s accounts had been falsified not in small numbers but
largely. The Global corporate community was shocked and scandalized when the chairman of
Satyam, Ramalinga Raju resigned on 7 January 2009and confessed that he had manipulated the
accounts by US$1.47 Billion. In February 2009, CBI took over the investigation and filed three
charge sheets (on 7 April 2009, 24 November 2009 and 7 January 2010), which were later
clubbed into one. On 10 April 2015, Ramalinga Raju was convicted with 10 other members. This
was a case in which all its stake holders (government, employees, shareholders, and management)
were cheated. All their interests were sacrificed for the personal benefits of the company s
chairman who invested a major share of the wealth hence earned in real estate. His confessions
about the fraud in the company resulted in the drastic fall of companies share value from 500 to 11
in one single day. This lead to the investors losing their hope and trust in the company.... Show more

Richard Eberhart Ground Hog Analysis
Transformation from death to decay creates a newfound awareness. In the Ground Hog, author
Richard Eberhart chronicles the metamorphosis of a dead groundhog. Watching the decomposition
of a dead groundhog suddenly begins to reflect/ mirrors reality. Nature and decay coexist in an
endless cycle. The first line generates a misleading tone of lightness, which immediately shifts
after the second line to dark and gloomy. The speaker s encounters with the dead groundhog shape
his perceptions and emotions surrounding his own mortality. Using the first person point of view
to narrate the piece fosters a closer personal perception. This produces a better understanding of the
speaker s revelations and his mixed feelings. Ironically the speaker first

Joliet Research Paper
Joliet through the Years Joliet, Illinois later to be known as the City of Stone and Steel was
settled in the early 1830 s and established in 1852, located just 40 miles southwest of Chicago, is a
town rich in history, diversity and devotion from its current 148,000 residents. (1) The I M Canal,
Route 66, the JolietArsenal , the architecture and Joliet Junior College are just a few of the that
had made Joliet a extraordinary town throughout history. However, it s not without an obscure and
sordid side that I have found through my attempt at research has been difficult to find. On Sunday
afternoon April 30, 2017, I spoke to an employee at the Joliet History Museum who explained that
for years the dark history within Joliet was covered up... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

drastically after the fire. (6) Many buildings in the Joliet area are historic sites now that built using

Essay about Rock Music in the GDR and the Eastern Bloc
The well known riff of Deep Purple s Smoke on the Water opens Andreas Dresen s movie
Changing Skins (Raus aus der Haut, 1997). The film opens in a crowded music club where young
people are dancing ecstatically, turned on by pulsing rock and roll. This could be a trite depiction
of youth culture if it were not located in a country that suppressed this kind of music: the German
Democratic Republic (GDR). It is therefore worth reflecting on the social and political controversy
in the former East Germanythat, finally in the 1970s, permitted the performance of rock music and
even imports from the capitalist part of the world. By the late 1970s, different kinds of rock music
were not only an integral part of Western youth culture but also... Show more content on

Beat and rock music spread all over the GDR and imported records circulated on the black market.
The government finally had to accept the fact that rock and roll had become an integral part of youth
culture even in the socialist bloc.
At the Eighth SED Congress in 1971, Honecker announced an about face. The needs of young
people as they were an important part of socialist society should no longer be ignored. Therefore,
music from the West was allowed to be broadcast on radio stations (most popular was the youth
station DT64 ), special editions of famous musicians like Jimi Hendrix, the Beatles, the Rolling
Stones, and so on were released, and local bands were allowed again to perform in newly founded
music clubs and discotheques.
In 1973, with the establishment of the Committee for Entertainment Music as part of the Culture
Ministry and the arrangement of the International Youth Festival in East Berlin, beat music was
officially rehabilitated. Basically since around 1970, popular culture in fact was the core of a
common culture (Maase 15). As a matter of fact, with the accommodation of rock and roll to
official culture the government now was better able to control songwriters and musicians. With the
groups dependent on the benefits of the Ministry, which

To these people, it is not necessarily bad to reminisce on what has happened throughout the years, but it is better to focus on what is taking place right now. They believe that the present is another chance to start fresh and anew without letting past experiences burden them. However, what they do not seem to realize is that the past, present, and future are interrelated. The present is a result of the past, while the future depends entirely on the choices, (and course of action for those choices), that are made in the present. With that being said, studying humanity and past cultures are significant to society. Attempting to understand why... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 5. Write An Essay On Mercy Entering Therapy RACHEL SOPHER Despite her diminutive size and quiet disposition, Mercy commanded my complete attention. So small as to appear child like, and dressed in loose fitting clothes that hid her slight form, she entered my office timidly, and started sessions in silence, repeatedly waving her hand across her face in characteristically self effacing gestures before speaking. But her somber self possession and meek temperament stood in stark contrast to her ferocious energy; Mercy was dead serious. She came to therapy after being forced to give up a promising career as a modern dancer due to a chronic knee injury. Finding herself unmoored, lost and alone in the city, with no familyor friends she could rely on for support, Mercy struggled for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Entering therapy, then, was a terrifying prospect for Mercy, filled with an infinite potential for exposure and shame. The differences between us were palpable from the start; binaries of black and white, African and American, anti establishment and more conventionally minded filled the room with questions of compatibility, divergent values and the weight of our disparate social identities. Though a perfunctory investigation of any feelings she had about the differences between us was quickly dismissed, the starkness of our dissimilarities haunted our interactions from the start. Mercy spoke in fragments of sentences punctuated by long silences, and I worked hard to piece together her traumatic history. Though born in the United States, Mercy did not identify with American customs or values; nor did she connect with her family s endless mourning for the traumatic loss of their country. The seemingly unbridgeable gap in our experiences remained on the outskirts of my awareness, a dull but insidious preconscious impression that our differences could destroy any approach at mutual understanding. I instinctively dealt with this perceived threat by trying to completely immerse myself in Mercy s experience, in effect, attempting to hold back any aspects of myself that could obtrude or offend, ... Massachusetts Bay Jamestown and Massachusetts Bay were the first English colonies formed in North America in the early 1600 s. While the Jamestown settlers searched for gold, the Massachusetts Bay colonist came to escape persecution in England and obtain religious freedoms. Although Jamestown and MassachusettsBay were both English colonies, they both share many similarities as well as differences socially, economically, and politically. Social similarities include the dealings with Native Americans. (examples of each) During the time of these colonies settlement, they both had accounts with Native Americans in the area. In the early times of settling each colony had friendly relations with the natives. Jamestown formed alliances with the Powhatan people, while Massachusetts Bay fell into relations with the Pequot tribe. Each settlement relied on Native Americans to survive in the New World. This is based on the characteristics of a comedy and how they are executed within the work. After reading and analyzing The Taming of the Shrew and The Importance of Being Earnest as comedies, I have come to the conclusion that The Taming of the Shrew is a better comedy. One of the typical characteristics of a comedy are puns. A pun is a deliberate confusion of words or phrases for humorous effect. We can see puns all throughout Taming of the Shrew. One example of this is when Grumio and Petruchio have a misunderstanding at Hortensio s gate. The misunderstanding happens when Petruchio asks... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The satire in the Taming of the Shrew occurs when Petrucio states I come to wive wealthily in Padua; if wealthy, then happily in Padua. (Shakespeare 1.2.76 7). This brings to attention the problem with the motivation for marriage in society back then. This same problem is also brought to attention within The Importance of Being Earnest. This satire occurs when Lady Bracknell expresses that A moment, Mr. Worthing. A hundred and thirty thousand pounds? And in the Funds? Miss Cardew seems to me a most attractive young lady, now that I look at her. (Wilde 63). Both of these plays bring up the same problem with society. However, the Taming of the Shrew brings more attention to the problem because there is more of an exaggeration. Baptista wants his older daughter married off first but requires there to be love in the relationship. He then will allow his younger daughter to marry the man with the most property and money. Although Adam is great there are others that have impacted the way business s run throughout history. Some of them even have an impact on today s society. One of these people that had an impact on management thought in history is Henry Fayol. An online article by The Mind Tools Editorial team says that, Fayol, and others like him, are responsible for building the foundations of modern management theory. Justice Kennedy stated that many who deem same sex marriage to be wrong reach that conclusion based on decent and honorable religious or philosophical premises, and neither they nor their beliefs are disparaged here. But when that sincere, personal opposition becomes enacted law and public policy, the necessary consequence is to put the imprimatur of the State itself on an exclusion that soon demeans or stigmatizes those whose own liberty is then denied. • 11. Synthetic Proteins And Cellular Components Essay Now with the GFP in the lysate solution with other soluble proteins and cellular components, we need a strong and specific process that targets only the GFP and not the other parts of the mixture. This strong and specific process used is called affinity chromatography, in which one substance can be purified by using its specific interaction with another substance. In this case, GFP has six histidines at its N terminus which can easily bond to Ni2+and this interaction can be used to purify the GFP from the lysate by using a Ni NTA column. This Ni NTA column allows for solutions to follow through except components that can easily bond to the immobilized Ni2+ ion in the column s silica matrix. Before we could use the Ni NTA column, we had to equilibrate it by adding some binding buffer to the column that washes and prepares the column and then centrifuge. After the column is ready for use, the bacterial lysate can be added to the column, with some left for later analysis. The column is then centrifuged in order for the mixture to flow through the matrix and separate those components that can bind to Ni2+ (not necessarily only GFP) and those that simply flowed through. The liquid from the collection tube is collected and transferred into a tube and labeled F for flow through (Figure 1, lane F). At this point the GFP is bound to Ni2+ in the matrix of the Ni NTA column, however it is not alone. Many other proteins and cellular components may have bound to the column as well due ... How would you feel thinking about the fact that humans left their carcasses to decompose on the earth, leaving grass and Mother Nature to cover up the mess? This issue is discussed from the grass s point of view in a poem written at the end of the atrocious Civil War and WWI, where many people were killed. Through the use of imperative tense verbs and the tension between first and third person pronouns, Carl Sandburg displays Grass s obligatory feeling to cover up the mess created by inferior humans in his poem Grass. The first technique Sandburg employs to show this idea is through the use of verbs in the imperative tense. In general,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout the poem, the speaker uses first person pronouns such as I and me, and third person pronouns such as them. Since one pronoun is not used throughout the entire poem, some tension is created between both pronouns/groups of people. The first person pronouns refer to the Grass, whereas the third person pronouns refer to humans and the bodies of soldiers. This difference in pronouns amplifies the fact that the Grass and humans are dissimilar entities and that there is also a difference in superiority between the two. The use of first person pronouns from the point of view of the Grass makes it seem as if the Grass is the one in control, which is what it wants the reader to think. The tension with the third person pronouns makes the humans come across as inferior. If the first person pronouns came from the humans and the third person pronouns came from the Grass, then this feeling would be switched. With the way Sandburg wrote the poem, the Grass takes charge and wants the humans to leave before they make an even bigger mess so it can get cleaned up. The Grass is confident that it can clean up the mess better than the humans will. Ultimately, although grass is not human, it still has the power to clean up all of the messes made by humanity. • 14. Introduction Of A Primary Alcohol Substitution 5. Introduction In this experiment, a primary alcohol was converted into a primary bromoalkane using hydrobromic acid. The reaction was done under reflux and then distilled to obtain a product of higher purity. The degree of the alkyl halide obtained from the experiment was tested with silver nitrate and sodium iodide. An infrared (IR) spectra and the weight of the product were obtained for further analysis. The IR gave information on the present functional groups and product weight was used to calculate the percent yield. 6. Data and Results The product obtained after reflux was a yellow liquid. With the halide tests, the product reacted faster with sodium iodide to form a precipitate than with silver nitrate. This indicates that the degree of the product was primary and that bromine did replace the alcohol group. The IR of the product showed four peaks at 3326.36, 2932.86, 1465.34, and 1028.73. These peaks indicate O H, C H, C H3, and C O bonds, respectively, within the product. 2.032 grams of product were recovered from the reaction. With this, a percent yield of 27.14% was calculated. 7. Discussion and Conclusion Nucleophilic aliphatic substitution is the replacement of one group for another at a saturated, sp3 hybridized carbon atom. The choices you now have are continue to sleep in or wake up and get ready for the day. Both of these alternatives will determine a future outcome, in this case, if you choose to sleep in you may end up running behind on your scheduled activities. When you make the choice to get out of bed you are taking into account what the positive future state of nature will be if you proactively prepare for the day. The fact that you chose to get out of bed denotes that you mentally assessed all the possible alternatives and decided getting ready is the choice that leads to the best possible outcome in the future. You may have contemplated the choice to stay in bed and considered that the warm embrace of your bed was more important than making it to work on time. No matter what the decision is we all use logic to choose between two or more alternatives and, based on the probable future state of nature, make the choice which best suits our need. • 26. An Outsider Contract As companies are artificial entities, those who are elected to manage them are acting in their directing mind and will. It appears that an outsider contracts with a company while it is the director who negotiate the contract and who make representations on behalf of the company. So it is essential that those who manage companies (directors) be engaged in appropriate duties. In this article I will specify the director s fiduciary duties contained by directors being loyal and faithful to the company, as well as being care and diligence, then expound the dutis breached in Cook v Deeks case. 1.The duty to act in good faith: directors must genuinely believe that they are acting for, and in the interests of, the company. It means directors must honestly act for the interests of the company, and by company, generally it means the company as a whole rather than some specific indicidual s interests. However, it is only one of the various factors relevant to a courts consideration of whether they have acted in good faith where directors make decisions affecting their company s interests their own view of their conduct. which means that directors will not necessarily comply with their duty merely because they have an honest belief that they are acting in the company s best interest, which means that directors will not necessarily comply with their duty merely because they have an honest belief that they are acting in the company s best interest. For example, in case Advance Bank v ... • 27. Individualism In Defoe s The Fortunate Mistress The neoclassical time period served to reinvent the notion of how literature was presented within society, working to introduce several crucial concepts that worked to alter individual perception, such as identity, and construct new ways of thinking. One instance of this newfound individualism can be viewed in Defoe s narrative, The Fortunate Mistress, in which a woman recounts her personal experience and transformation from a virtuous woman to a whore in response to unforeseen and unavoidable situations. Critical interpretations of the narrative have neglected to recognize the significance of how Roxana s role in society and actions depict her as an archetype for the early feminist individual On the contrary, the majority of critics tend to make the focal point the end of the novel in order to solidify the argument that the story was abruptly left unfinished and obscure in nature. As Molesworth puts it, a friendship that has thus far been marked by intimacy, candor, and forthrightness lapses into an unfamiliarity marked by timidity and apprehension (Molesworth 495). The tendency to interpret the ending in such a manner has lead to the viewing of Roxana as an unsuccessful individual, who attempted to deny the norms of social behavior, and as a result of this, was unable to overcome the obstacles presented and ultimately failed. For one defendants who could be facing multiple charges and potential years in jail, has the potential to get multiple charges dropped as well getting a significantly reduced sentence. In the judge s case, the advantage of accepting a plea bargain agreement is that the judge does not need to schedule and hold a trial. Judges also know about jails being overcrowded, so it is also in the public s interest to filter out the people who don t need to be in jail for a long time out. The outcome of this process closes cases quicker than the expected pace and also the court system would not be as overwhelmed with court cases. One of the major reasons why people don t go to trial is because they realize receiving the maximum charge if they go to trial will not be beneficial to them in the long run. Even those who are never rearrested, getting a charge reduced from a felony to a misdemeanor can show to be a critical benefit. The pineal gland in the brain produces melatonin that works with circadian rhythms, which in time help control sleep (Gillam, 2009). Distracted driving started when technology became mobile and handheld. Many people have died and gotten injured from people not paying attention to the road. This problem has been growing as technology advances. Distracted driving is a big problem and there needs to be stronger penalties and laws in place to deter people from distracted driving. In other words, when particles go down the concentration gradient, also called passive transport. A special type of diffusion is also called osmosis, which is the diffusion of water, meaning water particles (H2O) move from high concentration of water particles to a low concentration through a selectively permeable membrane. Higher water concentration can also be phrased as higher water potential. Diffusion is a spontaneous reaction that occurs to maintain equilibrium. Equilibrium is an equal concentration of particles across the membrane. Dynamic Equilibrium is the equal exchange of particles across the membrane. The purpose of this lab is to observe the physical effects of osmosis and diffusion and to determine if it actually takes place. Others, like Jonathan Collett, gather the idea that Eve s scene at the pool is simply a biblical form of the Narcissus myth. The myth of Narcissus, written by Ovid, is the tale of a hero whose self love gradually brought him to his death. Although Eve s memorization of herself at the pool did not ultimately take her life, there are many similarities which tie Eve s scene at the pool and the myth of Narcissus together. Mr. Collett writes, This situation by the pool echoes Ovid s tale of Narcissus and attributes to Eve a native vanity that issues in the Fall, sometimes finding additional sinister implications in periodic resemblances between the creation of Eve and the birth of Sin.
