A semiotic study of vampires and vampire lore.
The field of semiotics exists because of the realization that society has a desire to create and produce
signs because it serves as an important aspect and purpose to life. We are capable of performing
semiosis and representation to demonstrate the knowledge in which we come to understand the world,
and conversely, it is through the same process that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The modern day vampire stories are mostly all converted to love stories, and it is love in the end that
makes the wheels turn. John S. Bak, in his essay Post/modern Dracula: from Victorian themes to
postmodern praxis says. Coppola inverts Stoker s horror story and turns it into a love story, in order to
establish the central theme that universal love, not hate is what will ultimately save humanity from
evil.
Another interesting angle to using the vampire narrative as a tool in Christian hegemony is that holy
ground is never the deterrent to the vampire. It is always holy Christian ground. Religious artefacts
don t prove fatal to the vampire, Christian religious artefacts do. The idea that all religions are equal,
and other religions may also play a deterrent role never comes up. This, despite the fact that modern
day vampire narratives are exploring the realms of vampire history, and have traced vampiric lineage
all the way to Egypt during the time of the Pharaohs. However, the Christian undercurrents remain.
The image of a vampire unable to enter a mosque, or a temple or a synagogue are yet to be seen, even
though the concepts of vampires have existed for millennia with demonic entities considered the
precursor to the modern vampire seen in ancient cultures ranging from Mesopotamians, Romans,
Ancient Greeks and Hebrews.
However, as time progressed, vampires and the connotations

Forensic Examiner
What is a Forensic Examiner?
A forensic examiner is a scientific professional who collects, analyzes and reports on crime scene
evidence. While most work in law enforcement labs or offices, some work in the field collecting and
recording evidence.
What is a Forensic Examiner?
According to the American College of Forensic Examiners Institute (ACFEI), the term forensic
examiner is broadly applied to scientific and technical professionals who investigate information in
order to form an expert opinion. The legal system relies on professional experts during trials to
establish the truth regarding crimes. However, most people don t know that forensic examination isn t
limited to stereotypical crime evidence, such as weapons or personal items. Forensic examiners
specialize in a wide array of areas, such as DNA, accounting, ballistics, pathology, fingerprinting,
documents and toxicology.

forensic imaging professionals work within the Forensic Imaging Unit (FIU) to provide photographic
processing and support services. Crime scene documentation technicians survey and record crime
scenes through traditional methods and digital cameras with laser scanners. They reconstruct anything
from plane crashes to bullet trajectories. Third, there are scientific analysis technicians who perform

The Importance Of Expensing R D Expenditure
Some accounting committees and countries prefer expensing the R D expenditure to capitalization,
they concern about the conservatism rule, future economic benefit uncertainty and avoiding profit
manipulated of R D expenditure. However, expensing R D expenditure also cannot perfectly deal with
these problems as they expected. As the rapidly development of technology, especially in high tech
industry, intangible asset take up large number of the overall assets, whether the firm is successful or
not largely relay on these intangible assets, therefore, simple expensing all R D expenditure is
apparently inaccurate. One of the most important factors of expensing R D expenditure is the
uncertainty of R D. The Australian accounting profession s SAC 4 (1992) refers assets as future
economic benefits, which controlled by the entity as result of past transactions or other past events.
And the asset should be recorded in the statement of financial position when the expenditure of the
asset can be measured reliably and the future economic benefit generates from the asset is highly
likely backflow to the company. However, it is impossible of a company to accurately measure how
possibility of a firm can have future economic benefit generated by the asset. Moreover, the loose
concept of control of an asset that is the capacity of the entity to benefit from the asset in the pursuit of
the entity s objectives and to deny or regulate the access of others to that benefit. (Walker and

The Need to Support and Assist Employees
Throughout our career, we have been taught to check our personal problems at the door prior to
starting our work shift. In other words, personal problems are exactly what it is, personal , and have no
place in a work environment. In today s new economy, organizations are realizing the importance of
providing assistance to employees dealing with major personal problems. At times, when an employee
is having a personal problem at home, it can after their work performance and can potentially disrupt
the work flow of the organization. Industrial and labor relations experts talk of a changing labor force
and the need for employers to develop new polices in response to the changing needs of their
employees, if they wish to remain competitive in an increasingly world economy (Kamerman Kahn,
1987, p. 2). I personally believe that employers should provide assistance and be supportive of their
employees. Unfortunately many of us in the work force are presented with personal problems that are
unforeseen. Organizations need to be open minded in regards to these isolated issues and provide
support during the employee s difficult time. Emotions play a critical role in the success of every
organization, yet many people in key decision making positions, leaders with outstanding technical
skills, fail to understand the role emotions play in a work setting (Reece, Brandt, Howie, 2011, p.
190). My current employer, MetroHealth Medical Center, offers their employees and the

King Henry Viii
During the Wars of Roses, a European royal house of Welsh origins rose to power, a dynasty, which
rules England for the next one hundred and eighteen years. The powerful and most well known
dynasty is the House of Tudor. Henry VII became king in 1485 and took Elizabeth of York as his
wife. They had four children Prince Arthur of Wales, Margaret Tudor, Henry VIII, and Mary Tudor.
Henry VIII was born June 28, 1491 at the Palace of Placentia in Greenwich. Being the second born
son Henry was raised and educated to take a secular role in life, most likely as the Archbishop of
Canterbury. His grandmother Margaret Beaufort supervised his early childhood education. Henry was

This rocky reign begins with him receiving a license from Pope Julius II granting him the marriage to
Catherine of Aragon, his brother s widow. Together on June 24, 1509, they are crowned King and
Queen. The first two years of Henry VIII s reign is filled with lack of interest in governmental affairs
allowing his advisor Thomas Wosley to increase his influence over England. Eventually he becomes
interested in holding power when shifting alliances in the west catch his eye. He then took an interest
in his navy building it up to 53 ships, which took quite a bit of money. This took up most of his early
reign and left the end with leaving the country in a religious mix up for years to come. As we know,
his first wife was the humble and always loyal Catherine of Aragon. They met when they were
adolescences, and married later on to create a powerful alliance, a surplus of wealth, and maybe even
for love. However, that was not enough to keep Henry VIII faithful after many pregnancies that left
them with only one child who survived. That child was Mary born in February 1516. The other
children had been miscarriages except for two boys. Sadly, though neither baby lived through infancy.
Talk of divorce stirred about since before Princess Mary s birth. However, with her birth brought new
hope that a male heir was still possible. The divorce was delayed until it was certain she could never

Inclusion of Games in National Education Curriculum Essay
Inclusion of Games in National Education Curriculum
The inclusion of games in the national curriculum for physical education, provide children with a wide
range of benefits, which can lead to increased physical and mental development through sport. Team
games have recently been emphasised in the national curriculum, with a privileged status for games
establishing within the activity based framework of the national curriculum (Williams, 2000). It is a
common fact that sport can provide children with positive and enjoyable experiences, and through the
appropriate teaching and learning of games, these experiences can be developed to provide children

Key stage 1 states that pupils should be taught that regular exercise improves health and how one
feels. In order to encourage children to further participate in physical activity, the child s experience
must be an enjoyable one. It is no use taking a large group of children and have them running around a
gym with no real aim or objective. This is reflected in key stage 2 when it states that children should
be taught that exercise can be fun and sociable. Williams (2000), states that P.E experiences need to be
fun, exciting, challenging and rewarding. Games can provide children with a variety of enjoyable and
challenging experiences, including working as a team member, appropriate competition and a variety
of different game situations. There is the argument however that time allocation for physical education
in schools is not enough to improve the physical fitness of a child. Siedentop (1994) states that time is
always limited, and students should get as much successful experience as possible. Although time
scale is restricted, if the experience is enjoyable, then it may lead to children seeking further
opportunities in sport.
As well as developing and encouraging a physically active lifestyle, games is

Zeitoun Fight or Flight
Is it worth risking your life to protect your belongings and property when a Category 5 hurricane is
barreling towards your city? Is it right to disregard reports about a storm because in past experiences
the news has been wrong? In Zeitoun by Dave Eggers, a man named Zeitoun decides to let his family
evacuate New Orleans without him so that he can stay behind and protect his several homes, business,
and personal belongings from Category 5 hurricane Katrina. Once the hurricane passes, and he
survives, the city turns into chaos. The streets turn violent and the great city turns into a third world
country. The power goes out for weeks, and there is no water. The breakdown of all authority gets him
arrested and he is soon thrown behind bars. Zeitoun should have evacuated New Orleans with his
family for not only did he put his business in front of them, but also his shortsightedness almost left
his children without a father. Zeitoun s belongings and business items are all replaceable, but a father
is not.
Zeitoun s stubbornness blinds him from the true power of the storm for he constantly dismisses reports
on how strong Hurricane Katrina is. A couple of days before the hurricane his wife decides it is time to
leave. She tells him of her plans and he immediately turns her down. As his wife continues to bring up
the idea of evacuating he reminds himself of past hurricane threats, there seemed to be a half dozen
storms every August, and they were rarely worth the trouble. This

Introduction
In this experiment, LacZ DNA segment was isolated by PCR and ligated to pET32a vector plasmid for
further use in future experiments. LacZ gene has been used in wide range of experiments in the
Biochemistry field. The gene produces the galactosidase enzyme that is malleable and easy to
manipulate, making it a great subject for experiments to understand the molecular genetics of
prokaryotes (Serebriiskii and Rose et al.). The LacZ gene was isolated from E.coli bacteria by PCR
because it is an efficient and affordable method of amplifying a specific gene. The PCR product was
ligated to a vector plasmid, pET32a, so it can be inserted to a bacteria cell to be expressed and
analyzed. Restriction digestion with the same enzyme was done to the LacZ gene and vector plasmid
prior to ligation. This step ensures that the two will ligate at a specific position.

The first and only reigning Hawaiian queen and the last Hawaiian sovereign to govern the islands, her
name is Queen Liliuokalani. In the childhood of Queen Liliuokalani, there were lot s interesting facts
about her childhood to her adult life. I thought she was just a great Queen of Hawai i and had a great
life. But, after I read this, this was not true. She had lots of a hard time to defend the Hawai i as the
last Hawaiian queen. As a queen of Hawai i, she needs to go to jail because of what she believes is not
right to take over Hawai i. She didn t become a hero for Hawaiian people, but, she was inspired by
many Hawaiians.
The fact that I was surprised was after she got born, she immediately moved to the house of another
chief and adopted. But in Hawai ian culture, being adopted by royal family is to secure a higher rank
for that child. If I were her, I wouldn t like to be adopted, and if I get adopted, I will hate my parents
that adopt me to another family. Because I will think why will they let me live with them and grumble
to them. But, Queen Liliuokalani didn t grumble, she just lived out how her life was. I wouldn t like to

Figurative Language, Tone, And Characterization Of African...
In our society, specifically the south, African American men are constantly viewed with negative
connotations. It is so disturbing to know our society has molded our minds into believing this
misconception. This fallacy originated from generational hate that has been in existence since slavery,
and is apparent in many forms of African American literature. Black Men in a Public Space did a
phenomenal job of depicting the negative connotations presented to black men in the south. As I read
the literature, it allowed me to picture these senseless acts and sympathize with African American
males. I noticed Staples brought to his readers attention that despite class, race, and gender of a black
man, he would be viewed with adverse connotations. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Staples is implying that hikers avail cowbells to let bears know they are in the area. In his case, he is
the hiker, the bears are those who are fearful of Staples, and the cowbell represents actions that he
might do aware people of his presence. Due to this notion of black men being so dangerous , they feel
as though they must conform to this strange reality to make others feel less endangered and/or
comfortable especially in the south. And yet words on a parchment would not be enough to deliver
slaves from bondage, or provide men and women of every color and creed their full rights and
obligations as citizens of the United State (Obama). President Obama notably avowed this idea of
oppression being embedded in our Constitution. Obama s statement applied figurative language that
presents equality contradictions in the Constitution. It confirms that though we have been granted
lawful freedom, it does not dismantle the inequality that is already institutionalized.
Though, there are a few approaches for black men to dodge the system. For instance, O.J. Simpson
was not viewed as an African American just an American up until he was accused of a crime. O.J.
Simpson was only considered an American until the time of his trial because he did not associate with
many people of color, avoided speaking on topics concerning the black community, and according to

misunderstandings between people and those people s reactions will differ. Some choose to mope,
groan, and even get angry about the way that themselves or others are treated while some decide to try
and do something about it. Still, there are others who think to themselves that maybe the best way to
deal with the issues among people is to try and comprehend what they mean and just live by them. As
Benedict Spinoza put it, I have striven not to laugh at human actions, not to weep at them, nor to hate
them, but to understand them. Authors now try to understand actions that people make instead of

The National Defense Education Act
In America, the state of education has always been a pressing concern, perhaps now more than ever.
Improving education has been proven to strengthen the nation time and time again, specifically with
regard to science, mathematics and technology. Ten years after the start of the Cold War on October 4,
1957, the Soviet Union launched the first ever man made satellite, Sputnik 1. This action by the
Soviets caused immediate concern for the educational system in the United States because this launch
proved that the Soviet Union had superior technological capabilities (SOURCE 1). America s first
action was to improve education, and this was done through the National Defense Education Act,
which provided large amounts of funding to American schools, and supported American students who
showed particular skill in math, sciences or foreign languages (SOURCE 2). During the Cold War,
supporting education was used to support the nation as a whole. Today the United States faces a
similar problem, mainly due to the declining focus on science and math in schools. Students have been
losing interest in these subjects, and as a result, America has been falling behind in the global
education ranks. This decline has been hurting America s ability to continue to be a successful global
competitor. Now the government is working to reverse this trend by supporting STEM programs.

s leading to the Civil War. Already high tensions in the United States between the North and South,
were pushed to a toppling point over the controversy about slavery. It was only a matter of time before
the Nation would have to resolve this issue and attempt to unite the Country. This sectional tension
can be seen during two presidential administrations that either precede, or occur during the Civil War;
the administrations of President Franklin Pierce, and of Abraham Lincoln. Thus, the issue of slavery
economically and politically polarized the Country ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While the North grew in manufacturing throughout the 1840 s and 1850 s, the southern economy
remained stagnant. In fact, the slave states possessed only around 18% of the total national
manufacturing capacity during this period. Over half of this manufacturing capacity was located in the
border states, Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, and Missouri, whose populations had questionable
loyalty to the South. These border states were only southern in some aspects, and thus, did not secede
from the Union. Because of the lack of true southern manufacturing, it was hard to generate large
profits, as all agricultural produce had to be shipped North in order to be manufactured. For example,
most cotton from the South was sent to the North for spinning and manufacturing into clothing. From
there, the garments created would be sent back to the South, at a marked up, higher price. The
production difference between the South and the North made the South completely dependent on the
North, economically. According to one southerner, Financially [the south is] more enslaved than [its]
negroes .Thus, the South s utter reliance the North for even the most basic staples, including clothing,
books, and tools, led to intense friction between the two regions of the

Practical 2: Identification and quantification of taxifolin from milk thistle
Aim: to Identify and quantify the amount of taxifolin from three samples Silymarin stock solution,
taxifolin and silybum marianum extract. `
Methodology: Using auto pipette (20 100 microlitre), pipetted 0.06 mg of Taxifolin was added to 10ml
conical flask and made up to the mark (10ml) with H2O.This procedure was repeated with the same
amounts foe silymarin stock solution and silybum marianum extract. Taxifolin was transferred to 2ml
brown bottle for HPLC auto sampler, this was also done to silymarin stock solution. Silybum

Taxifolin pure isolated sample had the highest amount present of taxifolin compound out of the three
groups. Group 8 unusually high level of taxifolin compared to group 1 amp; 12 could have been due to
human error, i.e. inappropriate measurement of auto pipette. Methanol extract did suggest contained
more taxifolin structure in the compound than silymarin mariunium with the exception to group 1
results in table 2. All three unknown samples where successfully identified to contain taxifolin
compound, with the calculations illustrated in table 2 were used to quantify concentration in mg/ml in
each sample. Table 2 suggests that all taxifolin unknown samples do lie within the region shown in
table 2 peak area in the taxifolin standard result given before the experiment. Table 3 standard
deviation of each of the known samples of taxifolin, silymariun and silybum extract were small,
meaning that there was not a large margin of difference between samples, therefore

Gaius Octavianus As The Ruler Of The Great Roman Empire
Introduction
Gaius Julius Octavianus assumed the throne as the ruler of the great Roman Empire in 30 B.C. During
his reign as emperor which ran for about four and a half decades, Gaius institutionalized Rome with
ideologies and notions that were centered on the combined traditions of Republican Rome and the
realities of the kingship concept. Gaius Octavian was conferred with the title of Augustus in 27 B.C by
the senate. The honorific title of Augustus was a reflection of connotations stateliness and dignity.
Prior to the conferment of the title, an official imperial portrait that embodied the qualities wished to
be projected by Octavian the Emperor Augustus was created. Several hundreds of this portrait were
imprinted on gemstones, coins, monumental reliefs and statues and were disseminated to region of the
empire during and after Gaius reign. The above ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A prototypical portrait type was copied by court sculptors. The copies were dispersed throughout the
Roman Empire in a bid that further copies could be made and installed in public places. Via the
imprints of the statue on coins, and busts, the empire was consistently reminded of the Emperor s
authority and power. Aristocratic portraits of the late Roman Republic were always conceived as being
veristic, which implies that they documented wrinkles, baldness and the facial impetrations of the
personality they were modeled after. Gaius Octavian looked to a new ideology of Roman art and chose
a more idealized, classicizing portrait which would capture his individual features and portray him as
a never aging, and powerful ruler. In Gaius own opinion it would not be uncommon for the Emperor
to be portrayed with the attributes of gods. He believed that after his passing, he would be deified but
a public representation of himself in life would also depict him as having divine

Daily Administration Of T. Vulgaris By The Oral Route At A...
3. Results
The study has established that daily administration of T. vulgaris by the oral route at a dose of 500
mg/kg for 10 days did not cause any mortality or any observable toxic effects in mice of GII. Mice
were alert with no alternation of their behavioral pattern, any gastrointestinal tract disorder or
respiratory distress. From the histopathological observations, there were not any observable changes
in the livers at the giving dose compared to the normal controls (Figure 1).
3.1. Histopathological results
Macroscopically, the liver of T. gondii infected group showed a mild degree of enlargement and
focally extensive necrosis, however in T. vulgaris treated mice; the livers appeared more or less
healthy. Microscopically, the livers of T. gondii infected mice (GIII) showed focal areas of necrosis
with a mild degree of inflammatory cellular infiltrate; mainly lymphocytes that were very obvious in
the portal area and Toxoplasma cysts were observed between the hepatocytes (Figure 2). However, in
the infected immunosuppressed group (GIV), the histopathological features of liver progressed from
moderate to severe, in which there was a dissociation of hepatic cords pattern with generalized
necrosis of the hepatocytes. Also, there was marked dilatation and congestion of the hepatoportal
blood vessels. It was observed that some of Toxoplasma cysts ruptured, releasing tachyzoites to the
sinusoids and invading the other hepatocytes and kupffer cells. Also, there was kupffer

Christianity Protestant Reformer Research Paper
Christianity: Protestant Reformer Martin Luther
Martin Luther, born into the Catholic Church in 1483, is considered to be the father of Protestantism. 1
Luther was a devout man who dedicated himself to the study of the bible; in addition to being a
Professor of Biblical Studies at the University of Wittenberg, he was also a priest and a monk. He
spent a lot of his time focusing on what one could do to earn eternal salvation as it was written about
in the Bible. This was especially troubling to him given the actions of his colleagues at the University
of Wittenberg and his fellow priests and monks. He felt the actions of many of those in the Church that
he loved were both immoral and corrupt, and especially in the midst of his own struggles with the idea
of salvation, these actions troubled him deeply. 2 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He had issues with abuses of power amongst clergy, especially with regard to church finances. He
disliked the idea of indulgences, which involved members of the congregations paying priests and
other leaders for abolition of their sins, effectively bribing church leaders for their own salvation.
More than this, spiritual merit was attached to donations made to the church, and masses were able to
be purchased for the dead. The University of Whittenberg held many sacred relics, including hairs said
to have been from the Virgin Mary and the crown of thorns placed on Jesus head during crucifixion.
Rather than cherishing these items for their religious worth, they were sold. 3
Because of these things, Martin Luther was raged with a fierce and agitated conscience . 4 After
intense study, Luther followed the traditional method of protesting within the Catholic church he
nailed his complaints to the Church door and invited them to meet with him. Because of his refusal to
take back these complaints, and despite his intention to stay in the church, he was excommunicated in

Descriptive Essay On The Abu Bbakr Temple
The temple that we visited was the Abu Bakr Mosque, a Sunni temple, and the largest Islamic Mosque
in the state of Colorado. The temple can accommodate up to 3,000 people at its maximum. Abu Bakr
is a part of the Colorado Muslim Society and is the first masjid in Colorado after the building was
purchased in 1974 and relocated to its current location. My first impression of the masjid was that it
did not seem like a religious building at first sight. Because of the simple masonry of the exterior, I
would have assumed that it was a school or office building. I originally expected more windows and
more of a radial pattern of the site. Everyone that I encountered outside of the temple was friendly and
wanted to interact and teach me more about about Islam. One man in the multicultural room of the
temple said that he couldn t distinguish if I was muslim or not because I had the traditional head scarf
on as well as being covered to my wrists and ankles. He said that I was very respectful by dressing
conservatively. The people seemed more conservative with the separation of the sexes and with the
timeliness of the prayer, but we were told that we were completely separated to eliminate distraction
for both men and women, and the exact timing of the prayer helped because it was a Saturday, and it
was easier for the attendants to be more on time. They are also very understanding of schedules
because the masjid is open all day to accommodate everyone. The community was very

This change can be best illustrated by comparison of Figures 1.1 and 1.2 in Appendix 1, wherein the
possible corporate structures may tend to three different values, i.e. cost, differentiation and
responsiveness; Spartan strategy has shifted its focus from a differentiation and responsive model to a
cost effective model.
Job shop method of production to Hybrid method.
The new corporate strategy implies re engineering from a job shop method of production to a hybrid
method of production. The former involved manufacturing operations with several departments, each
of which produced particular components whereas the latter being a flow operation where multiple
stations can work simultaneously. This will mainly allow Spartan to increase volume of production,
reduce lead time and it will further lead in cutting down the carrying cost of inventory, even though
the inventory will be high.
Change in Corporate Culture.
The new strategy will affect the corporate structure of the company. Earlier the work was based on the
specific requirements of the client and it was more of research based but now the focus on research
will be less and it will be more on general requirements. Therefore the type of work would shift.
The present organizational chart of the SC Department in the company includes two buyers, one
material control clerk, one expeditor and two shipper/receivers. This structure was functional to the
previous strategy

Comparing Two Cultures As An Insider
This portion will compare two cultures from an emic perspective. I will examine similarities and
differences within the two cultures as an insider, solely based on my personal experiences and
scholarly research. I will express cultural relativism throughout this portion of the paper and will
refrain from using opinionated or judgmental language. Prior to learning about these cultures I had
preconceived thoughts about these cultures with little to no knowledge, not only from an etic
perspective, but also from not being an insider. It took first hand experience for me to understand
practices and rituals of their culture and reasoning s behind them. Having an open mind and not
passing judgment on another social group are two things that enabled me to have a sense of
understanding when learning about different societies and cultures. The people of the Middle East
region live a simple life much like the majority of Americans, except for the lack of electricity,
running water and technology, depending on the locality of the social group. Families farm their land
growing sources of food and poppy to trade and barter with others within the community. The
households that live in the more rural regions rely on their land and harvest for survival. Living with
the local populace of the Helmand Province of Afghanistan from October 2009 to May 2010, I learned
a lot about the Afghani culture and the challenges the members of the Helmand Province community

Apocalypto Summary
of Apocalypto Set in Mexico s Yucatan peninsula (Central America), during the 16th century, Mel
Gibson s, Apocalypto follows the journey of a Mayan villager by the name of Jaguar Paw . This
adaptation of the Mayan Empire illuminates a prophecy, surrounding Jaguar. The movie was
historically accurate as far as Mayan Empire culture and the sacrificial process. The appearance of the
Mayans in this film was spot on. They had stretched ear lobes, long hair, outlandish headdresses, burn

All in all, the movie was fun to watch. It was exciting and had a lot of great action. I liked it about ten
times better than I originally thought I was going to. I wish it would have more accurately portrayed
how the warriors would have captured the village members instead of them being violently hammered
to death. Apocalypto helped me to better understand the Maya sacrifices, but I still question the way
they rolled the sacrifices decapitated heads down the pyramid temple. Bibliography 1. Various.

Teams take on all shapes and sizes. It seems as if you don t have to look very far to see both the
importance and impact that teams have on almost every aspect of life as we know it. Those who learn
how to properly harness the power of teamwork understand how it can create an incredible
opportunity and potential for progress and accomplishment. Teams that find the ability to work
together with a sense of unity and common vision seem to produce at high levels of effectiveness.
Teamwork also, however, can create environments where conflict and challenge can easily arise and
hinder the ability to work together with effectiveness. Patrick Lencioni states, As difficult as it is to
build a cohesive team, it is not complicated. As simple as it may be, for many leaders the ability to
build, develop and properly utilize teams is a challenge. For church ministry leaders, the ability to
build and develop teams and manage conflict are vital skill sets that must be invested in to understand
and develop. In the pages ahead I plan to explore from a biblical perspective of why the building and
development of teams is so important, and some of the challenges that

Unless a teacher is granted permission to teach students for a certain period, an evaluation cannot be

36). Preoperational children are completely egocentric. Although they begin to take greater interest in
objects and people around them, they see these things from only their point of view. This also has been
said to be the stage of curiosity. Preoperational children are always questioning and investigating new
things and since they know the world only from their very limited point of view they make up
explanations for things they cannot explain (ICELS). The preoperational stage is therefore
characterized by egocentric thought and the inability for children to adopted alternative viewpoints.
According to Piaget this is the stage at which children s thoughts differ the most from adults. The third
stage is the concrete operational stage. This stage extends from ages 7 to 11 and it is during this stage
that a child is able to perform mental operations. Piaget defines a mental operation as an interiorized
action, an action performed in the mind which permits the child to think about physical actions that he
or she previously performed (Piaget 1973, p. 36). At this time children demonstrate logical, concrete
reasoning and their thinking becomes less egocentric as they are increasingly aware of external events.
The primary characteristic of concrete operational thought is its reversibility; the child can mentally

Long Distance Freight Trucking Industry Analysis The U.S. economy is significantly impacted by the
symbiotic relationships among most industries in the U.S. When one industry is negatively impacted
many other industries experience fluctuations in supply, demand, and profit. The long distance freight
trucking industry is a prime example of an industry that maintains interdependent relationships within
the U.S. economy. If the long distance trucking industry were to shut down for 10 days, industries like
manufacturing, construction, wholesale trade, and those providing and requiring gasoline and

A disruption in trucking for just several days would impact numerous industries and markets as well

services by transporting essential products, but it also contributes to the economy as a thriving and
growing industry. The long distance freight trucking industry employed over 1,107,000 in 2015 with
forecasted growth for the next five years. However, the industry is voicing its concern over a shortage
of drivers. Contribution of truck transportation as a whole to the gross output since the recession in
2009 has steadily increased to 332.4 billion in 2014 with a forecast of continued growth for the
foreseeable future. The trucking industries input to the Gross Domestic Product from 2010 to 2014
was .8% annually. The contribution of long distance freight trucking to the GDP during 2015 was over
$63,000,000 with anticipated increase for the next five years. The trucking industry in its entirety

Semiotic Study of Vampires and Vampires Lore MICA | Semiotic Study of Vampires and Vampire Lore | Individual Assignment for Semiotics | | | | Submitted by: Payel Basu Roll No: 113B A semiotic study of vampires and vampire lore, with an eye on the different cultural implications that arise through the ages. | A semiotic study of vampires and vampire lore. The field of semiotics exists because of the realization that society has a desire to create and produce signs because it serves as an important aspect and purpose to life. We are capable of performing semiosis and representation to demonstrate the knowledge in which we come to understand the world, and conversely, it is through the same process that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The modern day vampire stories are mostly all converted to love stories, and it is love in the end that makes the wheels turn. John S. Bak, in his essay Post/modern Dracula: from Victorian themes to postmodern praxis says. Coppola inverts Stoker s horror story and turns it into a love story, in order to establish the central theme that universal love, not hate is what will ultimately save humanity from evil. Another interesting angle to using the vampire narrative as a tool in Christian hegemony is that holy ground is never the deterrent to the vampire. It is always holy Christian ground. Religious artefacts don t prove fatal to the vampire, Christian religious artefacts do. The idea that all religions are equal, and other religions may also play a deterrent role never comes up. This, despite the fact that modern day vampire narratives are exploring the realms of vampire history, and have traced vampiric lineage all the way to Egypt during the time of the Pharaohs. However, the Christian undercurrents remain. The image of a vampire unable to enter a mosque, or a temple or a synagogue are yet to be seen, even though the concepts of vampires have existed for millennia with demonic entities considered the precursor to the modern vampire seen in ancient cultures ranging from Mesopotamians, Romans, Ancient Greeks and Hebrews. However, as time progressed, vampires and the connotations ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. The Importance Of Expensing R D Expenditure Some accounting committees and countries prefer expensing the R D expenditure to capitalization, they concern about the conservatism rule, future economic benefit uncertainty and avoiding profit manipulated of R D expenditure. However, expensing R D expenditure also cannot perfectly deal with these problems as they expected. As the rapidly development of technology, especially in high tech industry, intangible asset take up large number of the overall assets, whether the firm is successful or not largely relay on these intangible assets, therefore, simple expensing all R D expenditure is apparently inaccurate. One of the most important factors of expensing R D expenditure is the uncertainty of R D. The Australian accounting profession s SAC 4 (1992) refers assets as future economic benefits, which controlled by the entity as result of past transactions or other past events. And the asset should be recorded in the statement of financial position when the expenditure of the asset can be measured reliably and the future economic benefit generates from the asset is highly likely backflow to the company. However, it is impossible of a company to accurately measure how possibility of a firm can have future economic benefit generated by the asset. Moreover, the loose concept of control of an asset that is the capacity of the entity to benefit from the asset in the pursuit of the entity s objectives and to deny or regulate the access of others to that benefit. In other words, personal problems are exactly what it is, personal , and have no place in a work environment. In today s new economy, organizations are realizing the importance of providing assistance to employees dealing with major personal problems. At times, when an employee is having a personal problem at home, it can after their work performance and can potentially disrupt the work flow of the organization. Industrial and labor relations experts talk of a changing labor force and the need for employers to develop new polices in response to the changing needs of their employees, if they wish to remain competitive in an increasingly world economy (Kamerman Kahn, 1987, p. 2). I personally believe that employers should provide assistance and be supportive of their employees. Unfortunately many of us in the work force are presented with personal problems that are unforeseen. Organizations need to be open minded in regards to these isolated issues and provide support during the employee s difficult time. Emotions play a critical role in the success of every organization, yet many people in key decision making positions, leaders with outstanding technical skills, fail to understand the role emotions play in a work setting (Reece, Brandt, Howie, 2011, p. 190). This rocky reign begins with him receiving a license from Pope Julius II granting him the marriage to Catherine of Aragon, his brother s widow. Together on June 24, 1509, they are crowned King and Queen. The first two years of Henry VIII s reign is filled with lack of interest in governmental affairs allowing his advisor Thomas Wosley to increase his influence over England. Eventually he becomes interested in holding power when shifting alliances in the west catch his eye. He then took an interest in his navy building it up to 53 ships, which took quite a bit of money. This took up most of his early reign and left the end with leaving the country in a religious mix up for years to come. As we know, his first wife was the humble and always loyal Catherine of Aragon. They met when they were adolescences, and married later on to create a powerful alliance, a surplus of wealth, and maybe even for love. However, that was not enough to keep Henry VIII faithful after many pregnancies that left them with only one child who survived. That child was Mary born in February 1516. The other children had been miscarriages except for two boys. Sadly, though neither baby lived through infancy. Talk of divorce stirred about since before Princess Mary s birth. However, with her birth brought new hope that a male heir was still possible. The divorce was delayed until it was certain she could never produce a male heir. That is ... Inclusion of Games in National Education Curriculum Essay Inclusion of Games in National Education Curriculum The inclusion of games in the national curriculum for physical education, provide children with a wide range of benefits, which can lead to increased physical and mental development through sport. Team games have recently been emphasised in the national curriculum, with a privileged status for games establishing within the activity based framework of the national curriculum (Williams, 2000). In order to encourage children to further participate in physical activity, the child s experience must be an enjoyable one. This is reflected in key stage 2 when it states that children should be taught that exercise can be fun and sociable. Williams (2000), states that P.E experiences need to be fun, exciting, challenging and rewarding. Games can provide children with a variety of enjoyable and challenging experiences, including working as a team member, appropriate competition and a variety of different game situations. There is the argument however that time allocation for physical education in schools is not enough to improve the physical fitness of a child. Siedentop (1994) states that time is always limited, and students should get as much successful experience as possible. In Zeitoun by Dave Eggers, a man named Zeitoun decides to let his family evacuate New Orleans without him so that he can stay behind and protect his several homes, business, and personal belongings from Category 5 hurricane Katrina. Once the hurricane passes, and he survives, the city turns into chaos. The streets turn violent and the great city turns into a third world country. The power goes out for weeks, and there is no water. The breakdown of all authority gets him arrested and he is soon thrown behind bars. Zeitoun should have evacuated New Orleans with his family for not only did he put his business in front of them, but also his shortsightedness almost left his children without a father. Zeitoun s belongings and business items are all replaceable, but a father is not. Zeitoun s stubbornness blinds him from the true power of the storm for he constantly dismisses reports on how strong Hurricane Katrina is. A couple of days before the hurricane his wife decides it is time to leave. She tells him of her plans and he immediately turns her down. As his wife continues to bring up the idea of evacuating he reminds himself of past hurricane threats, there seemed to be a half dozen storms every August, and they were rarely worth the trouble. • 11. Pcr Lab Report Introduction In this experiment, LacZ DNA segment was isolated by PCR and ligated to pET32a vector plasmid for further use in future experiments. LacZ gene has been used in wide range of experiments in the Biochemistry field. The gene produces the galactosidase enzyme that is malleable and easy to manipulate, making it a great subject for experiments to understand the molecular genetics of prokaryotes (Serebriiskii and Rose et al.). The LacZ gene was isolated from E.coli bacteria by PCR because it is an efficient and affordable method of amplifying a specific gene. The PCR product was ligated to a vector plasmid, pET32a, so it can be inserted to a bacteria cell to be expressed and analyzed. Restriction digestion with the same enzyme was done to the LacZ gene and vector plasmid prior to ligation. This step ensures that the two will ligate at a specific position. Methods ... It is so disturbing to know our society has molded our minds into believing this misconception. This fallacy originated from generational hate that has been in existence since slavery, and is apparent in many forms of African American literature. Black Men in a Public Space did a phenomenal job of depicting the negative connotations presented to black men in the south. • 18. The National Defense Education Act In America, the state of education has always been a pressing concern, perhaps now more than ever. Improving education has been proven to strengthen the nation time and time again, specifically with regard to science, mathematics and technology. Ten years after the start of the Cold War on October 4, 1957, the Soviet Union launched the first ever man made satellite, Sputnik 1. This action by the Soviets caused immediate concern for the educational system in the United States because this launch proved that the Soviet Union had superior technological capabilities (SOURCE 1). America s first action was to improve education, and this was done through the National Defense Education Act, which provided large amounts of funding to American schools, and supported American students who showed particular skill in math, sciences or foreign languages (SOURCE 2). During the Cold War, supporting education was used to support the nation as a whole. Today the United States faces a similar problem, mainly due to the declining focus on science and math in schools. Students have been losing interest in these subjects, and as a result, America has been falling behind in the global education ranks. This decline has been hurting America s ability to continue to be a successful global competitor. Now the government is working to reverse this trend by supporting STEM programs. These border states were only southern in some aspects, and thus, did not secede from the Union. Because of the lack of true southern manufacturing, it was hard to generate large profits, as all agricultural produce had to be shipped North in order to be manufactured. For example, most cotton from the South was sent to the North for spinning and manufacturing into clothing. From there, the garments created would be sent back to the South, at a marked up, higher price. Because of the simple masonry of the exterior, I would have assumed that it was a school or office building. I originally expected more windows and more of a radial pattern of the site. Everyone that I encountered outside of the temple was friendly and wanted to interact and teach me more about about Islam. One man in the multicultural room of the temple said that he couldn t distinguish if I was muslim or not because I had the traditional head scarf on as well as being covered to my wrists and ankles. He said that I was very respectful by dressing conservatively. The people seemed more conservative with the separation of the sexes and with the timeliness of the prayer, but we were told that we were completely separated to eliminate distraction for both men and women, and the exact timing of the prayer helped because it was a Saturday, and it was easier for the attendants to be more on time. They are also very understanding of schedules because the masjid is open all day to accommodate everyone. The community was very ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This change can be best illustrated by comparison of Figures 1.1 and 1.2 in Appendix 1, wherein the possible corporate structures may tend to three different values, i.e. cost, differentiation and responsiveness; Spartan strategy has shifted its focus from a differentiation and responsive model to a cost effective model. Job shop method of production to Hybrid method. The new corporate strategy implies re engineering from a job shop method of production to a hybrid method of production. The former involved manufacturing operations with several departments, each of which produced particular components whereas the latter being a flow operation where multiple stations can work simultaneously. This will mainly allow Spartan to increase volume of production, reduce lead time and it will further lead in cutting down the carrying cost of inventory, even though the inventory will be high. Change in Corporate Culture. The new strategy will affect the corporate structure of the company. Earlier the work was based on the specific requirements of the client and it was more of research based but now the focus on research will be less and it will be more on general requirements. Therefore the type of work would shift. The present organizational chart of the SC Department in the company includes two buyers, one material control clerk, one expeditor and two shipper/receivers. This structure was functional to the previous strategy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Comparing Two Cultures As An Insider This portion will compare two cultures from an emic perspective. I will examine similarities and differences within the two cultures as an insider, solely based on my personal experiences and scholarly research. I will express cultural relativism throughout this portion of the paper and will refrain from using opinionated or judgmental language. Prior to learning about these cultures I had preconceived thoughts about these cultures with little to no knowledge, not only from an etic perspective, but also from not being an insider. It took first hand experience for me to understand practices and rituals of their culture and reasoning s behind them. Having an open mind and not passing judgment on another social group are two things that enabled me to have a sense of understanding when learning about different societies and cultures. The people of the Middle East region live a simple life much like the majority of Americans, except for the lack of electricity, running water and technology, depending on the locality of the social group. Families farm their land growing sources of food and poppy to trade and barter with others within the community. The households that live in the more rural regions rely on their land and harvest for survival. Living with the local populace of the Helmand Province of Afghanistan from October 2009 to May 2010, I learned a lot about the Afghani culture and the challenges the members of the Helmand Province community face daily with the strong ... Apocalypto Summary of Apocalypto Set in Mexico s Yucatan peninsula (Central America), during the 16th century, Mel Gibson s, Apocalypto follows the journey of a Mayan villager by the name of Jaguar Paw . This adaptation of the Mayan Empire illuminates a prophecy, surrounding Jaguar. The movie was historically accurate as far as Mayan Empire culture and the sacrificial process. The appearance of the Mayans in this film was spot on. They had stretched ear lobes, long hair, outlandish headdresses, burn scars, and tattoos. It didn t delve into the every day life enough for it to be accurate, or inaccurate. The opening scenes consisted of hunting, and a village campfire, and that s as far as it went for daily life. I liked it about ten times better than I originally thought I was going to. I wish it would have more accurately portrayed how the warriors would have captured the village members instead of them being violently hammered to death. Apocalypto helped me to better understand the Maya sacrifices, but I still question the way they rolled the sacrifices decapitated heads down the pyramid temple. Bibliography 1. Various. It seems as if you don t have to look very far to see both the importance and impact that teams have on almost every aspect of life as we know it. Those who learn how to properly harness the power of teamwork understand how it can create an incredible opportunity and potential for progress and accomplishment. Teams that find the ability to work together with a sense of unity and common vision seem to produce at high levels of effectiveness. Teamwork also, however, can create environments where conflict and challenge can easily arise and hinder the ability to work together with effectiveness. Patrick Lencioni states, As difficult as it is to build a cohesive team, it is not complicated. As simple as it may be, for many leaders the ability to build, develop and properly utilize teams is a challenge. For church ministry leaders, the ability to build and develop teams and manage conflict are vital skill sets that must be invested in to understand and develop. In the pages ahead I plan to explore from a biblical perspective of why the building and development of teams is so important, and some of the challenges that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the meantime, it is a pleasure to share the preceding data about British Columbia (BC) Public School teachers and their impact on their students throughout our generations from 1991 2014. Unless a teacher is granted permission to teach students for a certain period, an evaluation cannot be implemented. In other words, data on a teacher s features and characteristics cannot be further researched or collected. Yet, public schools rely on them to ensure the quality of all their students education are being kept high. Undoubtedly, this direct approach has a huge influence on the students lives. However, this method s outcomes might not always be favourable. Moreover, public schools are pursing many opportunities to avoid this type of situations. In this report, the data on the teachers from 1991 2014 will be interpreted based on: types of certificates, years of experience, age, volume of workload, and amount of salaries. Although they begin to take greater interest in objects and people around them, they see these things from only their point of view. This also has been said to be the stage of curiosity. Preoperational children are always questioning and investigating new things and since they know the world only from their very limited point of view they make up explanations for things they cannot explain (ICELS). The preoperational stage is therefore characterized by egocentric thought and the inability for children to adopted alternative viewpoints. According to Piaget this is the stage at which children s thoughts differ the most from adults. The third stage is the concrete operational stage. This stage extends from ages 7 to 11 and it is during this stage that a child is able to perform mental operations. Piaget defines a mental operation as an interiorized action, an action performed in the mind which permits the child to think about physical actions that he or she previously performed (Piaget 1973, p. 36). At this time children demonstrate logical, concrete reasoning and their thinking becomes less egocentric as they are increasingly aware of external events. The primary characteristic of concrete operational thought is its reversibility; the child can mentally reverse the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
