The Working Poor Shipler Chapter 2 Summary
In David Shipler s novel, The Working Poor Shipler expresses that life is not always easy, especially
living in poverty. Shipler tries to get across to his readers that work does not always work. The main
topic addressed is ultimately the dilemmas of public aid. Shipler illustrates this in chapter 2 of his
novel by explaining the lives of three hard working woman who are stuck in the poverty cycle. Just
because these women have a job, does not mean that they are able to free themselves from poverty.
Throughout chapter 2, it references back to the life of the three hard working women who hold
minimum wage jobs; the women make between $6 and $7 per hour and attempt to make a living with
help from the government through Medicaid, welfare checks, and food stamps. The issue with this is

Such things can lead to difficulties at home and even the possibility of having more children; which in
return would lead to more expenses. If there are issues at home due to fighting with the significant
other that will then lead to the women s work being affected and threatening their already low income.
Majority of the women s money goes to two major things; expenses on day care and food for their
children. The major issue of the two expenses lies within the food that is purchased for their children.
It is because the women are hardly home because they are out working to make a living that the
children are in need of quick, easy to make foods. Most foods that require little to no cooking typically
fall under the unhealthy or junk food category. If the kids are always exposed to bad eating habits then
that could lead to health issues and sickness; health issues cost money. If the children are constantly
needed medical attention due to their health then that is only making a bad situation even worse from

Abstract
The intent of this paper is to design and propose a database management system solution to Grandfield
College for tracking software installed. I have analyzed the organizational issues and needs and
developed conceptual, logical, and physical designs of DBMS solution. In order to implement the
solution, substantial research had been done on best practices in design, available products, and the
legal and ethical standards to which we must adhere during design. This paper includes Business rules,

There Will Come Soft Rains Analysis
Amidst the conflict and aggression of war in our current day, humans have regularly put themselves
on the brink of self destruction. Atomic bombs, chemical warfare, and traditional battle have caused
the human race to slaughter innocent citizens and break valuable international alliances; therefore,
destroying each other senselessly. This dilemma appears frequently in modern literature as we witness
the aftermath of mankind s self destruction. A theme laced through this literature is that humans will
face the consequences of their oblivious actions. This theme appears in Ray Bradbury s There Will

Analyse the key beliefs of a religious and secular world view in relation to ultimate questions Taylor
Murfitt.
In this report I will be both contrasting and comparing the religious view of Catholicism and the world
view of Secular Humanism. The three questions I will be analysing through the religious view of
Catholicism and the world view Secular Humanism include:
Is there a higher being?
What is the purpose of my life?
Is there a right way to treat people?
These three questions are very much conflicting worldwide and many philosophical discussions have
been debated for years, however with many different views on the world, not everyone on Earth has
the same answer to these. This may be due to different upbringings through youth, values, and overall
beliefs, including Catholicism and Secular Humanism. Within this report there is no aim of finding the
truth or the actual answer, it is simply an analysis of people s personal beliefs to these questions. I am
going to include others opinions including my own interviewee s (would like to be kept anonymous)
thoughts and beliefs throughout the report, including my own, and opinions I have researched to
further analyse opinions of different groups that can support these worldviews.
A brief description of the religious view Catholicism: A denomination of Christianity. I have decided
to specifically narrow my world religion view to Catholicism, which is one of the main and largely
practiced branches of Christianity.

Interpreting Dreams Essay
Most of us have experienced a dream, be it a nightmare or a pleasant walk in a forest. It was
frequently believed that dreams encompass a coded message that might be expressing our hidden
wishes, things that happened in the past or even predict the future. In the past, there have been many
attempts to unravel the secret hidden behind the dreams and so far the world came up with three main
theories of interpreting the dreams (Freudian, Jungian and Cognitive)(Wade, Travis 1998). In this
essay I will attempt to analyze my dream by using each of the theories mentioned above, then
compare the outcomes as well as their possible connections to my life and in the end determine, which
one of these theories is the most accurate and thus as a laic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

However, Sigmund Freud used as well the technique of the free association in order to determine the
real meaning of the dream, because sometimes it was not possible to do so by applying the dream
work functions (condensation, composite, displacement, representation) only (Freud 1900).
To be more specific about the process of analyzing any dream, Freud thought that only those objects
and symbols are of significant importance that we forget as soon as few days pass by and our
unconscious censor has enough time to erase them from our memory (Freud 1900). When I have
compared the two versions of my dream (the one that I put down immediately after waking up and the
other one that was written after four days) I found out that the following things and objects were
omitted:
People that were in the boat with me
Deer around the arbor
Six bullets (that I have shot the pig with)
The fact, that these objects were omitted signified a fact that they are (from Freudian point of view) of
significant importance. People that were in the boat with me were the ones I like and ask for an advice
or help. The fact that they were in the boat with me could mean that I need them or perhaps that I will
need them sometimes in the future. However, we can explain it also in another way. Perhaps they are
just slowing my boat down and therefore I cannot go towards

History and Causes of Smallpox Essay
Introduction
Smallpox is a viral disease that causes pus filled boils on the dermis. It looks similar to chickenpox,
but has certain characteristic differences. Unlike chickenpox, smallpox is lethal in 30% of the cases
and leaves the victim with disfiguring scars and/or blindness. Smallpox has now been eradicated
through aggressive vaccination. The last case was reported in Somalia in the late 1970 s. After 2 years
of worldwide surveillance, the World Health Organization (WHO) confirmed that the disease had been
eradicated.
Causative agent
Smallpox is caused by the Variola virus, which belongs to the Orthopoxvirus genus. The members of
this genus share similar genetic makeup and characteristics. Viruses belonging to this family are ...

Disease transmission
Smallpox is transmitted via face to face contact and /or exchange of infected bodily fluids with the
affected individual. The disease is transmitted to a lesser extent via infected clothing and bedding.
Humans are the only natural host for the virus. Therefore, there is no reservoir and the virus is not
transmittable through animals or insects. The incubation period of the virus is nearly 2 weeks (7 to 17
days) during which the person is asymptomatic and non contagious (Fenner et al., 129).
Symptoms and diagnosis
After the incubation period, the person experiences symptoms such as fever (101 to 104°F), body
ache, headache, malaise, vomiting and stomachache. At this point, the person becomes too sick to
walk around and do their daily chores. This phase is called as prodrome that may last 2 to 4 days. The
patient starts to feel normal after this prodrome phase only to experience the appearance of rashes in
the form of red spots on the mucous lining of the mouth and on the tongue, 24 hours later. These spots
rupture and release the virus into the throat. It is during this time that the rash starts appearing on the
dermis of the face, arms and legs. Usually, the midsection of the body has less concentration of these
spots when compared to the face and the extremities. This is the first

Understanding General Anxiety Disorder and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Hunter College, The City University of New York
As many as 4% of the US population have symptoms of generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) in any
given year, and ~6% at some time during their lives (Comer 2004.) This disorder is a personality
disorder that literally takes over someone s life. It interferes with social, occupational, and other areas
of important daily functioning. In order to meet the criteria for being diagnosed with GAD, a person
must have had continuous anxiety and worry that lasts for at least 6 months. It is very difficult for the
individual to control the anxiety and the worry that they are experiencing. This ... Show more content

When it is found in children, which is rare, it is usually anxiety and worry about their competence or
how they are preforming in their lives. For each individual, the worry and anxiety may shift from one
concern to another. There are many different interpretations of this disorder based on different type of
psychological theories. The different viewpoints include sociocultural perspective, psychodynamic
perspective, humanistic perspective, cognitive perspective, and biological perspective, though the
most influential in the treatment of GAD are the biological and cognitive perspectives. The cognitive
perspective often describe psychological problems as dysfunctional ways of thinking. There are many
cognitive symptoms but one major one includes excessive worry which is a key characteristic of
GAD. One assumption is the maladaptive assumption. One psychologist, Albert Ellis, discussed that
many people are guided by irrational beliefs which leads them to act in irrational ways. He called
them basically irrational assumptions, and included that many individuals with generalized anxiety
disorder have these irrational assumptions. One includes It is awful and catastrophic when things are
not the way one would very much like them to be. So when a person with these irrational assumptions
are faced with situations that are stressful they interpret them as dangerous and they tend to worry
excessively for no reason. Another psychologist, Aaron Back, discuss

The Rise Of Great Nations
The rise of great nations is a result of its citizens coming together to consider the all the possibilities to
improve the state of the country and then enacting the best ones. In democracy, all people s voices are
respected and heard but not all are logical and some are controversial. One election in America which
metaphorically caused a civil war was the election between Donald J. Trump and Hilary Clinton. Both
sides actively condemned the other with negative images of their opponent and a positive almost
godlike image of their preferred choice. At times it appeared as if Clinton represented a traditional and
logical way of thinking whilst Trump bragged about how idiosyncratic his alternative logic is.
Indisputably, the opponent which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As for wealth, it is imperative that the commander in chief improve the state of the economy by
raising the Gross Domestic Product. For this category, all future presidents should enforce actions that
allow the nation s GDP to be akin to that of former president John F. Kennedy. Under his
administration, GDP growth was the highest it ever has been; at 5.5% (Soergel). Regarding the
concept of happiness, I believe that as far as the country is not fighting a war and racial tensions are
low, then the atmosphere of this country can be gleeful. In contrast to former presidents Obama and
Kennedy, Trump has a unique and illogical way of pursuing these qualifications. Our current president
is renowned for bypassing the basic tenets of logic, creating his own in the process, and have half of
the nation under his spell. There are a myriad of policies that President Donald Trump intends to
implement that beat common sense, but of all, the biggest are regarding health care, domestic jobs,
immigration, and Muslims. Concerning health care reform, President Trump intends to repeal and
replace every aspect of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) that former President
Barack Obama signed into law. At first glance, there should not be a tremendous amount of
controversy revolving around this topic if the current adversities of Obamacare were replaced with
something that is clear and transparent. However, President Trump s plan is irrational because

Argument Against Napoleon Bonaparte
Hello, I speak to you today as the great Lucien Bonaparte, younger brother to Napoleon. While many
here may consider Napoleon a true revolutionary, the only right minded people in the building,
including myself, label him as a traitor, who should be prosecuted to the fullest extent. Before I get in
to my argument against Napoleon, I would like to provide you with some background details of my
personal relationship to Napoleon, so my credentials be known and taken into consideration when
deciding the ultimate verdict. Although born in Corsica in 1775, I was educated in France at the
College of Auton, the military school in Brienne and the seminary in Aix en Provence. In 1789, I
returned to Corsica to join the Jacobin Club, and to bring the fight to the oppressive ruler, Pasquale
Paoli. I was a fervent opponent of tyranny, and even went to France to solicit help towards the fight
against Paoli. I then became a devout Jacobin in the South of France. It is with this strong background
of fighting tyranny that I am qualified to express my discontent for Napoleon and his traitorous rule,
in which he failed to follow many revolutionary ideals. I have prepared the following two grievances
to formally express why my brother, Napoleon is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When I helped to appoint him First Consul in November 1799, I made sure that he knew the
consequences if he were to ever break with these three ideals. However, he then proceeded to limit the
liberty of the people with the help of Fouche, by taking away the right to freedom of press. Him and
Fouche reduced the number of newspapers down to four, and threatened violence to anyone who
published unfavorable information about him. This key break with liberty shows how Napoleon took
advantage of the revolution to gain power, and then used his position to limit the rights of the people.
This is truly a traitorous

perseverance. But what actions of perseverance did they commit to? For a long time, only white
people were in the major leagues. Until, however, Jackie Robinson defied this and made a change for
the better. He was the first African American in America to be in the major leagues of baseball,
although many people did not agree with this. This is shown when we see that white people had yelled

Manic Depression And The Gemini Disorder
Jessica Gulino Professor Boms BIO 1 November, 2016 Manic depression, or The Gemini disorder is
most commonly known as Bipolar Disorder. This illness is a brain disorder, which causes abrupt and
unusual mood shifts. These irritable mood shifts can be related to the individual s energy, activity
levels, or their ability to carry out daily tasks. This disorder goes beyond the ordinary mood swings we
all are aware of. Manic depression has four forms that are characterized as periods of acute elevation
of elatedness, or irritability. More often than not, the symptoms begin as an adolescent, though, they
can also occur as a young child or even middle age. These forms of bipolar disorder are diagnosed in
more than three million people a year, and are linked to their genetic material. People who have
Bipolar Disorder fluctuate between two abnormal mood states. Mania is accompanied by euphoria or
excitation, whereas depression is associated with decreased motivation and energy levels. Psychosis
can occur with either state and leads to a seventeen percent chance of the person attempting to commit
suicide in their lifetime. There are three types of bipolar disorders, type 1, type 2, and Cyclothymia.
Bipolar I is characterized by one or more manic episodes or mixed episodes. Typically a person who
has this type will experience periods of depression and is marked by extreme manic episodes. Bipolar
II disorder is diagnosed after more than one major depressive episode and a minimum of

Stereotypes In Professional Sports
Ask any sports fan what is your favorite day and they would most likely respond that it s game day.
Sports fans show team spirit for their sports teams by wearing their colors, singing chants about them
or most commonly shouting their team names to pick at fans of other teams and rivals. If your favorite
sports team s name is influenced by Native Americans then you may not want to shout that to anyone.
The teams that are named after Native Americans are under fire, especially if you are a Washington
Redskins fan. The Redskins are a team that is getting fire from the public for having a derogatory
nickname representing Native Americans. Some people argue that it is offensive for the team from our
nation s capital to have the name Redskins because it s disrespectful to a race of people. There are
other sports teams that have a Native American name but they are getting less attention, but it is not
right to change just one name, you have to change the names of the other teams to eliminate the
problem entirely.

The Locked Door Gladwell Summary
In the second chapter The Locked Door: The Secret Life of Snap Decisions . Gladwell delivered a
story about a retired tennis player. The player realized that every time he watch a tennis game, he can
predict when the server about to double fault. Gladwell explains that the tennis story proves how
important snap judgment is; he believes those snap judgments are extremely quick so that it can use
the smallest slice of experience. But at the same time they are unconscious. Because snap judgments
are unconscious, people often cannot rationalize them and thus do not trust them. It s one thing to
acknowledge the enormous power of snap judgments and thin slices but quite another to place our
trust in something so seemingly mysterious . Gladwell states that the Getty ... Show more content on

Another section in this chapter describes how we rarely understand why our unconscious works the
way it does. Gladwell illustrates with an example of Ted William, the greatest hitter of all time, when
he asked about the secret of his success he answered that he could track the ball right onto the bat.
Later on, when he confronted with the fact that human beings cannot track the ball onto the bat. He
said, Well, I guess it just seemed like I could do that . The author continues with the conclusion that
we have the tendency to explain almost everything, even when we do not have real explanation.
According to Gladwell, this is known as storytelling problem , and therefore we are better off by
saying I do not know more often. In the third chapter The Warren Harding Error: Why We Fall For
Tall, Dark, and Handsome Men . Gladwell uses Warren Harding, America s 29th President, as an
example of the disadvantages of thin slicing. He continues to describe how handsome and elegant
Harding was, and how he was elected president based on

Pathos In Bowling For Columbine
Bowling for Columbine is a documentary directed by American filmmaker and activist, Michael
Moore. The political documentary focuses on the 1999 school shootings that occurred in Columbine,
Colorado, and Flint, Michigan and the correlation of guns to the high homicide rates in America.
Moore argues that the number one problem the United States faces is gun control. Moore effectively
uses ethos, pathos, and logos appeals to present an unbiased and informational view of the issue of
gun violence in America. He also uses the fallacious argumentative strategy, ad hominem. Moore does
not put his own direct bias into the film, he instead shows both sides of the argument to allow the
viewer to decide for themselves which side they are on.
In the film, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His argument is stronger if the audience has an emotional connection to the events involving gun
violence. Along with statistics and facts, Moore shows sounds and images that elicits sympathy in an
attempt to persuade them to his cause. The most effective example of this is when he shows camera
footage from the Columbine Shooting with the 911 call from the scene in the background. He also
shows testimony from concerned citizens from several shooting incidents, such as the Buell
Elementary School where a first grader killed another with a gun. The graphic images shown are heart
wrenching and evokes empathy from the viewers.
To contrast his emotional appeals, Moore uses logos strategically in this film. Throughout the entire
documentary, Moore travels around and interviews people about their opinions on guns. He also asks
if they believe that everyone should have access to guns and why America is one the most dangerous
countries in the world when it comes to gun violence. The whole film consists of Moore s dialogue
with common Americans, which allows the viewers to hear what other people think, not just

A Closer Look At The Girl Who Was Plugged
A Closer Look at The Girl Who Was Plugged In
Under the arbitrary male pseudonym James Tiptree Jr, Alice Bradley Sheldon was the real mind
behind the short story, The Girl who Was Plugged. which takes place in a distant yet relatable future.
Science fiction, in her time, was completely controlled and written by men, so that is reason for the
pseudonym. The social struggle between men and women is a conflict that is deep seated in human
physiology. Men, in most cases, usually hold higher social status when compared to their female
counterparts and patriarchies are more common across different cultures. This inequality is maintained
by people because they simply comply to the societal norms determined by gender, but there is raging
dissent to the perceived inequality of the sexes. So reader have many interpretations for the themes,
events, and details present in this short story. This paper will explore the complex relationship
between science fiction and feminism, and the meaning of it all. Through a critical lens focused on
feminism, the ideas of self esteem, personal identity, and the social struggle be brought forward as
discussed.
The challenging and discordant opinions regarding gender equality have origins in various schools of
thought, across time and place. Modern feminism heavily borrow from these old ideas and expounds
upon them. Feminist worldwide are renowned for the action they must continually take that challenges
the negative societal and stereotypical norms

The Benefits Of The Athenian Democracy
The athenian democracy started to develop after the Persian War. Under Particle s rule, Athens
economy thrived and the government became more democratic. Not all Athens citizen agree about the
idea of democracy. There also people who supported democracy, because they think it will help free
the citizens from the rule of tyrants and long. To make Athens democracy stronger they have to bring
people together. First, Athenian democracy should be about every citizen and how they should take
part in Athens democracy. For example, many people who are part of Athenian democracy are the
ones who owned parts of the land. The word democracy had not yet been invented, the foundations
has been laid (D#7). This shows that, only the rich are part of the Athenian democracy and not all the
poor citizens were part of Athenian democracy. Many of the poor citizens didn t receive the rights they
deserved. In conclusion, not all of the citizens of Athen were a part of the Athenian democracy.
Second, Athens democracy is about how no one should be above the law. For example, if you commit
a crime, then you should get the punishment for your crime. ... required to pay the penalty: He had to
settle his private affairs within ten days and to depart from the city for ten years (D#6). This shows
that, the government is trying to maintain order by punishing people who commit a crime without a

Personal Narrative-When Calls The Heart
This season on When Calls the Heart has been a fantastic time of growth in the community, and many
of the featured new faces have been the children of Hope Valley. Yet again, Hearties were introduced
to a character named Robert who didn t get along with Cody in the beginning, but Miss Thatcher
never gave up on him. With his signature curly hair and spot on facial expressions, we have not been
able to overlook this character nor the boy who has infused him with life, Jaiven Natt. Recently, I had
the opportunity to chat with this 11 year old who has become a delightful part of this weekly Hallmark
escape.
What inspired you to become an actor at your age?
I always thought actors had such fun on TV, and it was something I really wanted to do. We happened
to hear about an acting camp, and my mom asked if I wanted to go. Of course I did, and we had to go
to LA for the camp. My mom had a GPS to get us there, but we got lost. We stopped off at a store, and
my mom wasn t sure we should keep going. I said I really wanted to go, and I begged her to keep
going. And then we found the camp, and I had such a great time. My coach at the camp was a real

and is quite grounded, thanks to his tremendous parents), there is no doubt in my mind that he is on
the right course, and he is just the sort of person who will resonate with fans now and in the years to
come. I would say to watch out for this young man as he is on a path that will ultimately bring him
(and us) great joy and fulfillment. Be sure to follow him every step of this magnificent journey as you

some humans do, cannibalism has been around since the 17th century, and it motivates humans to eat

societies disgrace people that have been cannibalistic. In a life or death situation you have very little
options of food, if you were in a situation like that would you turn to cannibalism?
There was no roads or highways during this time, so they had to use the dirt roads and the mountains.
There was no homes in the mountains there was a few vacation homes. Therefore, if something
happened to them no one would ever find them. Eric Bailey states, A wagon of 18 emigrants is trapped
in the Sierra (1). In this quote there was 87 people on the wagon trapped in the mountains. They ran
out of food halfway through the journey. Eric Bailey explains, Cannibalism has dominated the story
ever since the first, of 1847 (2). This cannibalism case was one one of the worst in the year of 1847.

Growing Horses Vitamins
Growing horses require vitamins as a source of nutrient due to the benefits and requirements they need
for their body s. The vitamins growing horses require depend on what their environment looks like.
This could range from them being in a stall getting fed grain everyday to being in a pasture eating
forage. Some horses are on both a high quality forage and a grain given to them each day. Vitamin
requirements also become more relevant when coming closer to the weaning time for growing horses.
Some of these vitamin requirements are given to horses additionally to what they are being fed.
Vitamins serve an importance to growing horses in many aspects of both weaning and maturing. There

psychological disorders, also called mental disorders have been misunderstood. Used to, people
suffering from such disorders were thought to be demonically possessed or they were accused of being

Treatment of schizophrenic disorders involves taking drugs that are meant to decrease dopamine
amounts in the brain and to block dopamine receptors (Morris and Maisto, 2002). Personality
disorders are characteristic of a person s inability to adapt or be flexible to their environment through
their way of thinking and behavior. People with personality disorders include unconventional people,
as well as people who kill in cold blood serial killers for example (Morris and Maisto, 2002). A type of
personality disorder is paranoid personality disorder for which the person suffering from this cannot
trust anyone and is highly suspicious all the time. Most people with this disorder believe themselves to
be sensible and objective, but in reality they are argumentative, devious, secretive, and unable to take
the blame for their wrong doing (Morris and Maisto, 2002). Personality disorders are thought to be
aided by family, as well as community influences. For example, a child who feels rejected or
unwanted by a family member(s) will act out, taking his or her aggressions out in an unacceptable
manner such as defying rules and regulations at school or within the community (Morris and Maisto,
2002). Sexual disorders are classified into three main groups paraphilias, sexual dysfunction, and
gender identity disorders. Paraphilias disorder is the need to use unconventional objects to achieve
sexual arousal. Gender identity disorders

Oppurtunities and Struggles for women of the 20th century
Following the end of the Civil War, the closing of the 19th century brought along many new
technological and social changes. In the article The New Technology and Women s Work by Sheila
Rothman tells of the opportunities and struggles that women faced in the college and job market
following the new social and technological advances of this period. Rothman tells of advancing
opportunities in College, as well as Department stores and offices positions, while also acknowledging
the limitations that still existed with women in social workplaces. The stereotypes of the early 19th
century were beginning to turn, as newfound household electric powered technologies took over, and

They believed that women were more honest than men. as exclaimed by Rothman, shows how far
biases against women had come following the end of the 19th century. While biases towards women
became better, there was still not much room for promotion of women in workplaces, because of the
belief that men were the only ones that could hold higher positions, because that is how it had been
viewed since the beginning of workforces. In a quote Catharine Beecher, referring to women s place in
teaching positions, tells of women s inability to be considered for higher positions, fitted by
disposition, and habits, and circumstances for such duties, who, to a very wide extent, must aid in the
childhood and youth of this nation; and therefore it is, that females must be trained and edu cated for
this employment . Even though women had come along way from initially being unable to acquire
basic work positions, it proved that there were still biases in promotion of the workplace, biases that
are still even present in today s society. Women have come a very long way since the years following
the end of the civil war as projected in Rothman s article. Unfortunately, gender biases against women
the workplace are still very common today, as women are often paid less even the same positions as,
and have to work longer to get promotions in the workforce, even in schools. For example, according
to the National Center for Education Statistics, women work three years longer as a teacher

The Legacy Of The United States
Democracy is the feat on which the united states prides itself. This democracy was built over the ages
and over many events through trial and error. By analyzing the history of the Monroe Doctrine, the
two elections in which Andrew Jackson was voted a president, the theory of John C. Calhoun, and the
Cherokee Nation vs Jackson trail we can arrive at the strengths and shortcomings of the American
democracy in the period between 1820 and 1836.
After the revolutionary war and the war of 1812 the United States had to enforce their independence
and establish themselves as a political entity. This declaration of their political influence came in the
form of the Monroe doctrine. A document that was written by President Monroe. The doctrine had ...

The democratic republican party which ran uncontested in the elections of 1824 had split due to a rift
which was created between the ideas of nationalism and sectionalism. On one side Andrew Jackson
ran with his Jacksonian Democracy platform and Adams who has now been considered and elitist.
However, the expansion of democracy came from the states new relaxed voting laws which in
Pennsylvania went as far as allowing all adult males, while in other states had a requirement of being a
taxpayer like in the case of Tennessee. This is clearly the main factor in the doubling of the voter
participation rising from 26.9 to 57.6 percent. At the same time states were abolishing appointment
and moving into popular vote for many positions like state officials and judges. In fact, South Carolina
was the only state in which appointment prevailed by 1832. These two changes also inspired a reform
in the political thinking and electioneering bringing a new type of politician on the pedestal: the
politician who has good popular appeal, a powerful voice, and great leadership skills. The politician
who can rally the people and excite them.
During the next elections in 1832 a third part joined in response to a despotic conspiracy which was
theorized against the Masonic fraternal order. This party called themselves the Anti Masonic party, and
believed that the masons are puppeteering the government. Their goals and ideas aside, they

Drug Prohibition – The solution that never worked Essay
Countries have been making drugs illegal over the years for varieties of reasons be it to combat a
perceived moral or health epidemic, to single out certain groups of people, or to reflect religious
influences. Even when some drugs do not present notable health dangers, governments ban them.
While there are many drugs that are unhealthy when abused, the drug policies around the world,
particularly the United States, are inconsistent and oppressive. Drug laws were supposedly created for
the good of society, but the prohibition of drugs only serves to cause problems, violence, and unrest.
Starting from a historical standpoint, we can see that past endeavors to ban substances were often
motivated by discrimination and racism. Drug ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These deaths are due to drug wars and fights over territory between the various organized crime
groups, who get their business by trafficking drugs over the United States border. Their booming
business and death count directly depend on the prohibition of drugs to continue. Former US narcotics
officer Michael Levine worked undercover with some Colombian cocaine cartels and talked about
what he learned:
I learned that not only did they not fear our war on drugs, they counted on it to increase the market
price and to weed out the smaller, inefficient drug dealers. They found U.S. interdiction efforts
laughable. The only U.S. action they feared was an effective demand reduction program. On one
undercover tape recorded conversation, a top cartel chief, Jorge Roman, expressed his gratitude for the
drug war, calling it a sham put on for the American taxpayer that was actually good for business
(Lynch, 92).
Prohibition of drugs continues to allow organized crime to raise their death toll and make massive
profits. Further evidence on how prohibition can fail and give rise to crime is quite clear looking back
to the attempted prohibition of alcohol in the 1920s in the United States. The Volstead Act and
Eighteenth Amendment to the Constitution banned the sale of alcohol and caused much unrest among
the citizenry of the country. Widespread criminal

Celebrities Right To Privacy
The Right to Privacy
Many individuals believe that when someone becomes a celebrity , they must give up their privacy
and personal lives. This statement, concluded by several people, is completely incorrect. Celebrities
do not want to give up their freedom or right to privacy when becoming famous, unfortunately, it is
their crazy, obsessive fans who want to know every single detail about what is happening in that star s,
not so secretive, life. They are continuously followed and stalked by reporters and the paparazzi who
never take a day off, leaving celebrities with constant claustrophobia. Digging into the lives of
celebrities and discovering their deepest, darkest secrets, is simply just entertainment for those
interested. Forgetting that those who are famous need privacy in their lives, is a serious issue in
society that is causing many conflicts with celebrities nowadays; individuals are invading their privacy
and not accepting this right, they are making them feel claustrophobic and watched at all times, and
they truly do not care for those who are famous, only for the entertainment they are creating.
Modern day people continue to ask the following question; Seriously, they get paid loads of cash, why
do they get mad about pictures? The truth, however, is that everyone deserves their privacy, after all,
celebrities are just like everyone else, human beings. Being an actor or actress is an occupation like
any other. There is a difference between taking photos while they re working or publishing
information and taking photos of them with their children, families or friends on their own time.
Imagine being in their position and being watched all the time, while living their life and sometimes
making poor decisions. Everyone makes mistakes, but not everyone s mistakes are all over social
media. People go through rough times when growing up, in order to become the best version of
themselves, but every celebrity is constantly reminded of every bad choice they have made. Many
celebrities including Justin Bieber have been in this type of situation. For instance, in 2012, Bieber
was accused of battery by a photographer who claimed he roughed him up and left him in need of

Cleft Lip And Palate Essay
Cleft lip and/or palate are facial and oral malformations that develop during the 1st trimester in

condition or syndrome. These include cleft lip, cleft palate, and cleft lip with palate. The diagnosis of
this condition is sometimes extremely different for parents to hear and the implications of how the
parents react can sometimes negatively affect how the baby develops. The research behind this article
places the importance on the father s role of development and how they cope with diagnosis since
mother s are normally the focus. The purpose of this article is to study the impact of the timing of
diagnosis (prenatal vs. postnatal) of cleft lip and/or palate and how this corresponds with how fathers
emotionally attach themselves to their infants. Parents who receive this diagnosis might influence their
child s psychological functioning and this study discusses major similar themes that emerge with each

Analysis Of Corrie Ten Boom s The Hiding Place
Corrie Ten Boom s book, The Hiding Place, is an inspirational story that explores the issues of
needing and wanting freedom, and maintaining strength throughout life s difficulties. This book
illustrates how important freedom is, and how, without it many people are lost or lack hope. Freedom
coveys the feeling of strength and worth. Corrie explains this throughout her book.
The Hiding Place is the emotional and inspirational true life story of an ideal Christian woman who
sacrifices her life to help others. Corrie has grown up in a very religious home, and when embroiled in
a difficult and dangerous situation her family risks everything to help others. The book is based in the
1940 s, when Corrie s home town is invaded by German officers who collect any Jewish civilians and
escort them to Concentration Camps. Fear consumed the town, and the Ten Boom family reacts by
helping the town s Jewish families. Quickly, the news of this kind hearted family spreads and more
Jews come seeking help. Eventually the Ten Boom family is caught and sent to the Concentration
camps themselves. While imprisoned in solitary confinement Corrie, has to learn to be strong and
faithful to God. She dreams and wishes for freedom for not only herself but for the other innocent
prisoners surrounding her. Corrie has to be strong for herself and for God. She stays devoted to her
beliefs, and even through the hurt and anxiety, she never blames God, she believes it is all part of His
plan and that everything happens for a reason.
The Hiding Place s dual theme of freedom and faith are also portrayed in other books, such as, All
Quite on The Western Front. Paul Bäumer, the main character, is a young man who enlists in the army
to fight for his country. When Paul joins the army, he covets the freedom of others. Once he returns
home and is free, his memories of battle taunt him. He wishes to return to the war because he is used
to being a killing machine and hearing the sound of guns go off at night. His newly recovered freedom
is unwanted. War has so altered Paul that he no longer is able to have thoughts and emotions of his
own. Throughout the book, the author continuously brings up the bird as a symbol of hope and
freedom. Paul

2 Problems with Auditors Objectivity and Independence
The fundamental principle that requires the professional accountants to behave with professional
integrity in their business relationships with clients, which sometimes they struggle and make great

Dillard Paranoia
Dillard had an appreciation for the world and history, especially anything that had to do with Pittsburg
or her family. Her father wanted to help in the Second World War but he was not allowed, and had he
been she might not have been born. Her birthday was the day that Hitler died, basically the end of the
war, and her father had not joined the fight oversees, instead choosing to help watch for air raids in
Pittsburgh. After the war, she said that in school they were always ready for air raids. The reasoning
for thinking they would be bombed was that Pittsburgh was an industrial center of the country; that
they would attack them to cripple the rest of the country. The paranoia that they had the war was over

Ordeal or Reconstruction
1. What were the four main questions facing peacemakers in 1865? a. The aftermath of the war was
crucial due to the fact that the south and north were totally separated during the civil war, but more
importantly was that all the fighting had ben done in the south, which meant that the majority of the
damage was done in the southern towns. This caused the towns and fields to be ruined, and many
properties worthless. So many peacemakers wanted to assure the southerners possessions. b. Secondly
the peacemakers were faced with was giving freedom to the black slaves, which meant that would be
the end of slavery all together. c. Since after the war the country need much reconstruction within the

e. Johnson s Reconstruction Proclamation: i. His stance on reconstruction was similar to Lincoln s, in
that he was not as harsh on the South as the Radical Republicans in Congress wanted. In May 1865,
Johnson issued his Amnesty Proclamation, which required an oath of loyalty from former
confederates, who would then be pardoned and have their property restored (except slaves) that had be
confiscated by Federal officials during the war. The only people not included in this proclamation
were high ranking military and civilian Confederate officials and those who resigned their positions in
the Federal government to serve the in the Confederacy. Johnson issued a second proclamation
outlining his plan for how the states should go about getting themselves back into the Union. Under
this plan, the President would appoint a governor to each state under reconstruction. 5. What were the
effects of the Black Codes? a. The purpose of the black codes was to keep black people from voting.
The result was the 15th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States, which prohibited using
race as a reason to prevent people from voting. The emancipation of black slaves in post Civil War
America did not run smoothly. Though the slaves had been freed in name, many did not feel secure
about giving black people rights. The black codes prevented black Americans from voting and

Stereotypical And Common Images From Hollywood And Beauty...
Oppositional art looks to turn prominent societal images and norms on their heads. For this project, we
chose to address the stereotypical and common images found in both Hollywood and beauty product
advertisements. Many movie and television advertisements portray lead characters who exemplify
hegemonic norms: white, heterosexual, and patronizing. The advertisements in the beauty industry
highlight similar images; models are young and beautiful and they promote the idea that being
youthful is better and more acceptable than appearing old . The first image is a popular movie poster
that originally featured a heterosexual couple with the woman in a submissive pose. Our second image
is an advertisement that plays on products that are marketed to women who want to appear younger.
Using a feminist perspective and oppositional gaze, we will critically analyze the hegemonic norms
represented in the chosen images and then highlight how our art is challenging those norms. As stated
before, the first image is that of a highly recognizable movie poster from 2013. The advertisement, in
which originally featured Robert Downey Jr. in his role as Iron Man, is now a poster displaying Iron
Woman played by Rebel Wilson. The poster now has a homosexual couple in the spotlight, with Iron
Woman protecting her lady. Defying gendered norms, Rebel dawns a full suit of armor and has an
unattractive look on her face, while her counterpart, Gwyneth Paltrow, wears a sultry, distressed look.

  • 2. The Working Poor Shipler Chapter 2 Summary In David Shipler s novel, The Working Poor Shipler expresses that life is not always easy, especially living in poverty. Shipler tries to get across to his readers that work does not always work. The main topic addressed is ultimately the dilemmas of public aid. Shipler illustrates this in chapter 2 of his novel by explaining the lives of three hard working woman who are stuck in the poverty cycle. Just because these women have a job, does not mean that they are able to free themselves from poverty. Throughout chapter 2, it references back to the life of the three hard working women who hold minimum wage jobs; the women make between $6 and $7 per hour and attempt to make a living with help from the government through Medicaid, welfare checks, and food stamps. The issue with this is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Such things can lead to difficulties at home and even the possibility of having more children; which in return would lead to more expenses. If there are issues at home due to fighting with the significant other that will then lead to the women s work being affected and threatening their already low income. Majority of the women s money goes to two major things; expenses on day care and food for their children. The major issue of the two expenses lies within the food that is purchased for their children. It is because the women are hardly home because they are out working to make a living that the children are in need of quick, easy to make foods. Most foods that require little to no cooking typically fall under the unhealthy or junk food category. If the kids are always exposed to bad eating habits then that could lead to health issues and sickness; health issues cost money. If the children are constantly needed medical attention due to their health then that is only making a bad situation even worse from a financial ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Atomic bombs, chemical warfare, and traditional battle have caused the human race to slaughter innocent citizens and break valuable international alliances; therefore, destroying each other senselessly. This dilemma appears frequently in modern literature as we witness the aftermath of mankind s self destruction. A theme laced through this literature is that humans will face the consequences of their oblivious actions. In this report I will be both contrasting and comparing the religious view of Catholicism and the world view of Secular Humanism. The three questions I will be analysing through the religious view of Catholicism and the world view Secular Humanism include: Is there a higher being? What is the purpose of my life? Is there a right way to treat people? These three questions are very much conflicting worldwide and many philosophical discussions have been debated for years, however with many different views on the world, not everyone on Earth has the same answer to these. This may be due to different upbringings through youth, values, and overall beliefs, including Catholicism and Secular Humanism. Within this report there is no aim of finding the truth or the actual answer, it is simply an analysis of people s personal beliefs to these questions. I am going to include others opinions including my own interviewee s (would like to be kept anonymous) thoughts and beliefs throughout the report, including my own, and opinions I have researched to further analyse opinions of different groups that can support these worldviews. A brief description of the religious view Catholicism: A denomination of Christianity. • 7. Interpreting Dreams Essay Most of us have experienced a dream, be it a nightmare or a pleasant walk in a forest. It was frequently believed that dreams encompass a coded message that might be expressing our hidden wishes, things that happened in the past or even predict the future. In the past, there have been many attempts to unravel the secret hidden behind the dreams and so far the world came up with three main theories of interpreting the dreams (Freudian, Jungian and Cognitive)(Wade, Travis 1998). In this essay I will attempt to analyze my dream by using each of the theories mentioned above, then compare the outcomes as well as their possible connections to my life and in the end determine, which one of these theories is the most accurate and thus as a laic ... However, Sigmund Freud used as well the technique of the free association in order to determine the real meaning of the dream, because sometimes it was not possible to do so by applying the dream work functions (condensation, composite, displacement, representation) only (Freud 1900). To be more specific about the process of analyzing any dream, Freud thought that only those objects and symbols are of significant importance that we forget as soon as few days pass by and our unconscious censor has enough time to erase them from our memory (Freud 1900). When I have compared the two versions of my dream (the one that I put down immediately after waking up and the other one that was written after four days) I found out that the following things and objects were omitted: People that were in the boat with me Deer around the arbor Six bullets (that I have shot the pig with) The fact, that these objects were omitted signified a fact that they are (from Freudian point of view) of significant importance. People that were in the boat with me were the ones I like and ask for an advice or help. The fact that they were in the boat with me could mean that I need them or perhaps that I will need them sometimes in the future. However, we can explain it also in another way. The incubation period of the virus is nearly 2 weeks (7 to 17 days) during which the person is asymptomatic and non contagious (Fenner et al., 129). Symptoms and diagnosis After the incubation period, the person experiences symptoms such as fever (101 to 104°F), body ache, headache, malaise, vomiting and stomachache. At this point, the person becomes too sick to walk around and do their daily chores. This phase is called as prodrome that may last 2 to 4 days. The patient starts to feel normal after this prodrome phase only to experience the appearance of rashes in the form of red spots on the mucous lining of the mouth and on the tongue, 24 hours later. There are many cognitive symptoms but one major one includes excessive worry which is a key characteristic of GAD. One assumption is the maladaptive assumption. One psychologist, Albert Ellis, discussed that many people are guided by irrational beliefs which leads them to act in irrational ways. In democracy, all people s voices are respected and heard but not all are logical and some are controversial. One election in America which metaphorically caused a civil war was the election between Donald J. Trump and Hilary Clinton. While many here may consider Napoleon a true revolutionary, the only right minded people in the building, including myself, label him as a traitor, who should be prosecuted to the fullest extent. Before I get in to my argument against Napoleon, I would like to provide you with some background details of my personal relationship to Napoleon, so my credentials be known and taken into consideration when deciding the ultimate verdict. Although born in Corsica in 1775, I was educated in France at the College of Auton, the military school in Brienne and the seminary in Aix en Provence. In 1789, I returned to Corsica to join the Jacobin Club, and to bring the fight to the oppressive ruler, Pasquale Paoli. I was a fervent opponent of tyranny, and even went to France to solicit help towards the fight against Paoli. I then became a devout Jacobin in the South of France. This illness is a brain disorder, which causes abrupt and unusual mood shifts. This disorder goes beyond the ordinary mood swings we all are aware of. Manic depression has four forms that are characterized as periods of acute elevation of elatedness, or irritability. More often than not, the symptoms begin as an adolescent, though, they can also occur as a young child or even middle age. These forms of bipolar disorder are diagnosed in more than three million people a year, and are linked to their genetic material. People who have Bipolar Disorder fluctuate between two abnormal mood states. Mania is accompanied by euphoria or excitation, whereas depression is associated with decreased motivation and energy levels. Psychosis can occur with either state and leads to a seventeen percent chance of the person attempting to commit suicide in their lifetime. There are three types of bipolar disorders, type 1, type 2, and Cyclothymia. Bipolar I is characterized by one or more manic episodes or mixed episodes. • 31. The Legacy Of The United States Democracy is the feat on which the united states prides itself. This democracy was built over the ages and over many events through trial and error. By analyzing the history of the Monroe Doctrine, the two elections in which Andrew Jackson was voted a president, the theory of John C. Calhoun, and the Cherokee Nation vs Jackson trail we can arrive at the strengths and shortcomings of the American democracy in the period between 1820 and 1836. After the revolutionary war and the war of 1812 the United States had to enforce their independence and establish themselves as a political entity. This declaration of their political influence came in the form of the Monroe doctrine. A document that was written by President Monroe. The doctrine had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The democratic republican party which ran uncontested in the elections of 1824 had split due to a rift which was created between the ideas of nationalism and sectionalism. On one side Andrew Jackson ran with his Jacksonian Democracy platform and Adams who has now been considered and elitist. However, the expansion of democracy came from the states new relaxed voting laws which in Pennsylvania went as far as allowing all adult males, while in other states had a requirement of being a taxpayer like in the case of Tennessee. This is clearly the main factor in the doubling of the voter participation rising from 26.9 to 57.6 percent. At the same time states were abolishing appointment and moving into popular vote for many positions like state officials and judges. In fact, South Carolina was the only state in which appointment prevailed by 1832. These two changes also inspired a reform in the political thinking and electioneering bringing a new type of politician on the pedestal: the politician who has good popular appeal, a powerful voice, and great leadership skills. The politician who can rally the people and excite them. During the next elections in 1832 a third part joined in response to a despotic conspiracy which was theorized against the Masonic fraternal order. This party called themselves the Anti Masonic party, and believed that the masons are puppeteering the government. Their goals and ideas aside, they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Drug Prohibition – The solution that never worked Essay Countries have been making drugs illegal over the years for varieties of reasons be it to combat a perceived moral or health epidemic, to single out certain groups of people, or to reflect religious influences. Even when some drugs do not present notable health dangers, governments ban them. While there are many drugs that are unhealthy when abused, the drug policies around the world, particularly the United States, are inconsistent and oppressive. Drug laws were supposedly created for the good of society, but the prohibition of drugs only serves to cause problems, violence, and unrest. Starting from a historical standpoint, we can see that past endeavors to ban substances were often motivated by discrimination and racism. Drug ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These deaths are due to drug wars and fights over territory between the various organized crime groups, who get their business by trafficking drugs over the United States border. Their booming business and death count directly depend on the prohibition of drugs to continue. Former US narcotics officer Michael Levine worked undercover with some Colombian cocaine cartels and talked about what he learned: I learned that not only did they not fear our war on drugs, they counted on it to increase the market price and to weed out the smaller, inefficient drug dealers. They found U.S. interdiction efforts laughable. The only U.S. action they feared was an effective demand reduction program. On one undercover tape recorded conversation, a top cartel chief, Jorge Roman, expressed his gratitude for the drug war, calling it a sham put on for the American taxpayer that was actually good for business (Lynch, 92). Prohibition of drugs continues to allow organized crime to raise their death toll and make massive profits. Further evidence on how prohibition can fail and give rise to crime is quite clear looking back to the attempted prohibition of alcohol in the 1920s in the United States. The Volstead Act and Eighteenth Amendment to the Constitution banned the sale of alcohol and caused much unrest among the citizenry of the country. Widespread criminal ... For this project, we chose to address the stereotypical and common images found in both Hollywood and beauty product advertisements. Many movie and television advertisements portray lead characters who exemplify hegemonic norms: white, heterosexual, and patronizing. The advertisements in the beauty industry highlight similar images; models are young and beautiful and they promote the idea that being youthful is better and more acceptable than appearing old . The first image is a popular movie poster that originally featured a heterosexual couple with the woman in a submissive pose. Our second image is an advertisement that plays on products that are marketed to women who want to appear younger. Using a feminist perspective and oppositional gaze, we will critically analyze the hegemonic norms represented in the chosen images and then highlight how our art is challenging those norms. As stated before, the first image is that of a highly recognizable movie poster from 2013. The advertisement, in which originally featured Robert Downey Jr. in his role as Iron Man, is now a poster displaying Iron Woman played by Rebel Wilson. The poster now has a homosexual couple in the spotlight, with Iron Woman protecting her lady.
