Essay On The Lesson In Catcher In The Rye
The Lessons Taught in the Catcher in the Rye
In the words of Juliette Lewis, The bravest thing [she has] ever done was [continue] to live when [she]
wanted to die. J.D. Salinger, author of The Catcher in the Rye, envelops this quote into the mind of the
main character, Holden Caulfield, as he struggles to find his place in the world. Holden Caulfield, a
depressed teenage boy, does not want to grow up. Although he tries to act super mature, it is clear that
he is not. Over the span of two days, he gets kicked out of school, encounters a prostitute, and
consistently ponders about how he wants to stay a child forever. Many critics believe that this best
selling novel should not be taught in schools anymore. However, The Catcher in the Rye ... Show

If students do not read this book, then they too will be victims of speaking to people with this same
exact disrespect. Lastly, when Holden is in his old school s bathroom he sees the words F*ck you
(205) inscribed on the wall in red crayon. Though Holden is infuriated with the fact that this was
written in a place for children, if students do not read this book in school they may think that both
vandalization and profanity are tolerable, when really, they both bring negativity into the world. In
essence, though the profanity displayed in the book is a controversial topic for critics, it is evident that
this book must continue to be taught in schools so that children know the difference between right and
wrong.
On top of profanity, throughout the entire piece, Holden deals with extreme cases of depression. At
first, Holden notifies readers of how depressed he was when his older brother Allie passed away as he
expresses, I slept in the garage the night he died, and I broke all the goddam windows with my fist,
just for the hell of it ( 39) when thinking back on the past. Holden s demeanor drastically changed
when something horrific happened to him, and if this book is not taught in schools anymore, people
dealing with the same types of feelings in real life could turn out just the same. Rather, Holden s
aggravation should teach kids that violence is never

Charlie Gordon s Life In Flowers For Algernon By Daniel Keyes
Could you imagine what it would be like to become what you ve always wanted to be? Or to have
your I.Q be tripled? In the Science Fiction story, Flowers for Algernon written by Daniel Keyes, a 37
year old man named Charlie Gordon, whose mind is impaired, undergoes a surgery to triple his I.Q.
After the surgery, Charlie Gordon s life became much better for him. Charlie was able to make true
friends, along with that he felt emotions, but most importantly, he was able to see the world through a
different a different perspective. Charlie was able to make true friends. After Charlie s A.I surgery he
realized who were his true friends rather than before believing everybody was his friend. Later Frank
Reilly came over and said Charlie if anybody ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Critics argue that Charlie shouldn t have gotten the A.I surgery because he regressed more than his
normal I.Q of 68. Nevertheless, Charlie was very happy to have contributed to science and doesn t
regret a thing about it. In a letter Charlie wrote, Yet for sake of science I am grateful for the little bit
that I here to add to the knowledge of the human mind and of the laws governing the artificial increase
of human intelligence (Keyes 239). In addition to that Charlie now is more knowledgeable of the
world around him. I have reread my progress reports and seen the illiteracy, the childish naivete, the
mind of a low intelligence peering from a dark room, through the keyhole, at a dazzling light outside
(Keyes 237). This evidence proves that Charlie s life became substantially better after the surgery.
Tripling Charlie s I.Q through the means of Artificial Intelligence drastically changed his life in a very
positive way. Charlie was able to make true friends. Secondly, Charlie got to see what it was like to
have emotions. Finally, Charlie was able to see the world in a completely different perspective. How
would you like to have your I.Q be tripled or to become a genius and also have a better

Leibniz s Principle Of The Identity Of Indiscernibles
Leibniz s Principle of the Identity of Indiscernibles A1: Leibniz s Principle of the Identity of
Indiscernibles (PII) The Principle of the Identity of Indiscernibles (PII) claims that in nature, there
cannot be two individual things that differ in number alone (Primary Truths, p. 32). The symbolic
notation of (PII) ∀P (Pa Pb) ( a = b) indicates that if, for every property P, thing a has property P if and
only if thing b has property P, then thing a is identical to thing b. Hence, if two things (a and b) have
exactly the same properties, they must be identical i.e. they must be the same thing (numerically one).
For example, Billy offers a complete description of all the properties that constitute Sacramento, and

will be called qualified (or derivative) primary truths. A3: Retracing Leibniz s Reasoning P1:
Unqualified Primary Truths are identities. Sub P1: P1 is supplemented by the Principle of
Contradiction (PC). P2: Qualified Primary Truths are partial identities with the help of a priori
definitions. Sub P2: P2 is supplemented by the Principle of Sufficient Reason (PSR). C: So, there
cannot be two indiscernible Primary Truths that differ in number alone (PII). Unqualified primary
truths are identities since they (i) assert themselves (e.g., A is A ) or (ii) deny the opposite of their
opposites (e.g., A is not not A ). Examples of Unqualified primary truths are: (i) I am always identical
to myself , and (ii) I am always not not identical to myself . Leibniz claims that these type truths can
be supplemented by his Principle of Contradiction (PC). PC states that anything which implies a
contradiction is false. Hence, if people disagree with the claim (i) I am always identical to myself they
would be claiming a falsehood. I can immediately point out that they are stating a contradiction i.e. A
is not A contradicts A is A . Qualified primary truths are partial identities since they are identities if

Civil War Dbq Analysis
Over 182,000 texans are slaves (Doc A), and it could all be changed by one war. Many of the texans
involved in the Civil War didn t have it easy. Between 12,000 and 15,000 texans died just due to the
wars fighting and disease (BK). There was even a miniature fighti inside Texas debating over the
Kansas Nebraska Act. A man, John Brown, was so angry he tried to start a slave uprising and attack
the federal arsenal. A now nervous nation held its breath, waiting for the next move to play out (BK).
At one time Texas had had enough of the rights, slavery, and laws that they left the Union for good.
Texans fought in the war so they could have states rights, enjoy their love for Texas, and keep slavery.
Texans fought in the civil war because of states rights. States rights means a state gets to choose if
they want to follow something or not. Texas really enjoyed it s freedom, but still wanted to be apart of
the United States (Doc C). Also, no matter how hard you tried, no state upon its own mere motion
could lawfully get out of the Union (Doc C). Many people who lived in Texas were furious about this,
because they felt like they couldn t do anything without permission from the Union. Overall, states

High Scores On Safety Standards
Scores on most of the items in this dimension are high. High scores represent a positive attitude
towards safety. The lowest score observed was on PA7 which questions about trade off between
getting a task completed and doing it by the book. With a mean score of (3.72) it shows disagreement
among respondents as to how a task is completed according to their job. For instance, ATC
respondents show that half of them agree there is a trade off between getting a task done and doing it
by the book, while the other half disagree with the statement. The highest score observed was (4.75) in
PA1 which questions about safety procedures making their job safer. This shows that there is a strong

(3.82) which questions if participants are familiar with getting a job done without looking at the
manual or written procedures.
1.3 Summary of discussion
All scores in the items shows a general positive motive towards safety. However, there are a few
showing the opposite. For instance, 34% of the participants agreed with the statement I will take
shortcuts to get a task done. This is a high number for a high risk industry, especially where human
error is cited as major causal factor in accident occurrence. Airlines and other stakeholders in the
Nigerian aviation industry need to encourage employees regarding such type of behaviour.
Due to the cultural nature of Nigerians and their strong believes in in culture. Nigeria scores 13 in

Today Mississippi tops the list of the fattest states. The Mississippi Delta region exhibits all these

That s how they feel about a black man or woman being a President.
On Dec 12, 2013 there were high rates of obesity and diabetes in a majority of Mississippi s cities and
counties which continues to make Mississippi the unhealthiest state in the country. This may be
attributed to Mississippi s a high poverty rate because poor people tend to eat less healthy. A lot of
people in Mississippi has lack of physical activity so that could be another reason. Obesity in adults
and children is a top health concern in Mississippi. In 2012 Mississippi had the highest obesity rate in
the country. In 2011 it was reported that 44% of Mississippi s kids were overweight or obese and 70%
of the adults were and that it is most prevalent in the Mississippi Delta. Along with obesity go a slew
of other health problems including diabetes, heart disease and high blood pressure. Another cause of
obesity in the Delta is the lack available fresh produce in places. In one store in the Mississippi Delta,
bananas were starting to turn black in their only grocery store. If you really want quality fresh produce
food or fruit you must drive 30 to 45 minutes to find a good grocery store.
Mississippi history is burdened with labels of poverty, racism, and unhealthy lifestyles. Nowhere is
more apparent than in the Mississippi Delta region. Poverty, racism, and unhealthy lifestyles are all

Lust s Body Count Deyoung Analysis
Before reading Rebecca Konyndyk DeYoung s chapter on lust, my view on the effects of lust were
very different. In the section entitled, Lust s Body Count, DeYoung says, We often live with lust s
collateral damage for the long term (DeYoung, 171). Thus, I agree with DeYoung that the aftermath of
lusting is more a long term and widespread problem than it appears on the surface. Initially, I always
thought of lust being an internal sin that did not really affect anyone outside of the individual
partaking in the lustful activities, but DeYoung has changed my mind about that. I think part of the
problem with my former belief is that the first act that comes to mind is pornography. I think that

All children require a combination of specific nutrients in order to grow strong bodies that will resist
disease. Children require a balanced diet to ensure that they receive a complete supply of these
nutritional elements on an ongoing basis to maintain overall good health. While protein is crucial for
muscle development, the following are a sampling of the different vitamins and minerals also are
necessary for optimum health for kids.

Vitamin D
Another crucial vitamin for a child s health is vitamin D. It helps with bone and teeth development
through enabling the body to absorb calcium and other minerals. Also, it supports cell growth,
production of insulin and the immune system. While the body manufactures vitamin D with proper
sun exposure, the use of sunscreen today lowers the body s ability to produce sufficient amounts of it.
Fortified dairy and other products, certain fatty fish and egg yolks are examples of foods that provide
vitamin D.
4. Calcium
The mineral calcium is vital for developing strong teeth and bones, helping the blood clot for wound
healing and supporting the proper functioning of muscles and nerves. Dairy products, calcium fortified
orange juice, whole grain products and green leafy vegetables are some of the food sources for
calcium.
5. Zinc
Zinc supports the immune system, plays an important role in metabolism and promotes normal cell
growth. Shellfish, poultry, red meat, whole grains, beans and dairy products will supply this mineral to
children in effective quantities.

A Worn Path Phoenix Jackson Essay
At the beginning Eudora Welty explains that in the story A Worn Path her character, Phoenix Jackson,
goes on a long journey on foot while also being very old. There are clues that she has been on this
journey several times and the purpose of it is to get medicine for her sick grandson. We are never sure
of the condition of the grandson nor do we see him as a character in the story. In this story the path she
takes what seems like more than a mile walk, but she still pushes through all of the hardships that she
comes across. She meets many characters along her walk like a dog, hunter, lady, attendant, and the
nurse. Her determination is very high, and she seeks to get her job done no matter what happens to
her. The time takes place close to Christmas, which makes this story kind of biblical. The Bible is a
good source to this story because of its reference to Moses and his journeys. They compare Phoenix
Jackson to Moses in many points of the story. Near the beginning, she uses her cane just as Moses
uses his staff to clear a path. Exodus 14:21
22 (King James Version) in The Bible shows when Moses
parted the red sea to clear a path while in A Worn Path Phoenix clears a path to safely walk across the
water. Phoenix is also like Moses because of how she seems as if she is symbolized as a shepherd and
how unafraid she is with God on her side. She puts everyone before her with herself, as show how
little she cares about what happens to her as long as it helps. She is doing

Enchiridion By Epictetus Summary
In Enchiridion by Epictetus, the claim in selection number 7 is that humans should not get attached to
material things because when nature calls them to return to it, they will have to leave their material
belongings. The human desire of materialism is often too difficult to satiate. As humans start to gain
material possessions, they tend to forget the great value of nature which surpasses that of materialism.
Sooner or later, humans will be disappointed by materialism since they placed their entire faith on it,
instead of placing it on nature. According to Epictetus, humans only borrow material things, those do
not belong to any person and therefore humans do not have control over them. However, Epictetus
suggests that nature is part of humans, it is what dictates their fate and it is in what humans should
relied on since nature is the reason for everything that happens. Therefore, people should be willing to
leave their material possessions whenever nature calls them, it is beneficial to concentrate on the
guidance of nature to fate, and not on materialism that will disappoint them when they cannot have it
anymore.
For instance, American Indians relied on nature to form their civilizations and traditions. Raw
materials such as gold, silver, and copper, were not as valuable as they are in modern times since
American Indians were aware that nature provided every material thing that they used. Moreover, they
recognized that not even a single rock belonged to them, instead,

Essay on Ap World Similarities and Differences China and Rome
Han China and Rome The Han Dynasty and the Roman Empire both had a great influence not only on
its people but the world as a whole. The two had similar and different methods of political control.
Both ruled their people under a bureaucracy, they had civil servants to maintain their large empires,
and their foundations were made of great and strong rulers. Aside from the similarities they also had
several differences. Take China for example, they focused more on Confucianism and they had a
Mandate of Heaven. Rome on the other hand used entertainment to distract and control the masses of
its population.

Civilians could obtain government jobs by taking examinations. Loyal followers were also rewarded
government posts by their emperor. Now what would The Han Dynasty and The Roman Empire do
without their great and strong emperors? The emperors are pretty much the building foundations of the
empire. Rome had the one and only Octavian who later took the title of Augustus. Augustus was Julius
Caesar s grandnephew and adopted son. He became the Roman Empire s first emperor after defeating
the combined forces of Mark Anthony and Queen Cleopatra. He brought the empire to a long and
peaceful period which is known as Pax Romana. He also glorified Rome and created a form of
government which is known as a bureaucracy that survived for centuries. There were other great
emperors of Rome like: Nerva, Hadrian, Trajan, Antoninus Pius, and Marcus Aurelias. Nerva began
the custom of adopting heir. Hadrian consolidated earlier conquests and reorganized the bureaucracy.
Trajan help the empire reach its greatest extent; he undertook vast bulding programs and enlarged
social welfare. Antoninus Pius reign largely a period of peace and prosperity similar to Pax Romana.
Marcus Aurelias brought the Roman Empire to its height of economic prosperity, defeated invaders,
and wrote a philospy. The Han Dynasty had the great emperor Wudi who reigned for 141 to 87 B.C;
he was the emperor who ruled the longest. He was a courageous emperor; he expanded the Chinese

Nutrition is the science that studies food and how food nourishes our body and influences our health.

My calorie intake overall was quite low equaling one thousand. My recommended intake was two

Aristotle s Philosophy On Ethics
Nicomachean ethics is the name of Aristotle s work on ethics based on his lectures. It is said that
Nicomachean ethics were named after either Aristotle s father or son , as they were both named
Nicomachus. Aristotle believed that happiness is what makes a person pure. To prove his point,
Aristotle believed that there were four moral virtues that worked together; the virtue of great soul, the
virtue of justice, the virtue of practical judgment and the virtue of being a truly good friend. Ten books
have been written from Aristotle s lecture notes.
Aristotle s first seven books focus on the virtues he believed were important and was believed to have
his thoughts on ethics based on Plato and Socrates philosophy. In the first seven books, Aristotle goes
over basic virtues and how they relate to each other and to moral values. Over the next few
paragraphs, I will explain my understandings of Aristotle s virtues from these books.
In Book I, Aristotle starts to discuss what Plato stated about the Theory of Forms, but mainly wants to
define happiness, what is also known as Eudaimonia. Aristotle states in Book I, three ways in which
people associate with happiness; slavish way of pleasure (majority of people), refined and active way
of politics, (which aims at honor), and the way of contemplation (Aristotle: Nicomachean Ethics).
These three things are said to be what people aim for in their own sake of happiness.
In Book II, Aristotle speaks about the nature of human

The Fight For Equal Marriage
The fight for equal marriage rights has been one of great length. Although this topic only brought to
attention of the Supreme Court in 2015, gay marriage has long been a topic of interest in American
society. Prior to 2015, gay marriage was only acknowledged and legal in select states, not nationwide.
This caused great distress and heartache. One case in particular, the case that was brought to the
supreme court, is very representative of such dejection. The subjects of such case are James
Obergefell and John Arthur of Ohio. In 2013, the two were legally married in Maryland. Shortly after,
however, Mr. Arthur grew terminally ill, and eventually passed away. Due to Ohio state laws, the state

homosexuality should be viewed and treated. Which leads to the controversy of gay marriage, and
Obergefell v. Hodges.
Obergefell v. Hodges was the Supreme Court case of 2015, which ultimately granted equal marriage
rights to same sex couples. Obergefell was arguing in favor of equal marriage rights, while Hodges
had an opposing argument. This case was brought to the Supreme Court after the state of Ohio refused
to put a married status on the death certificate of James Obergefell s late husband in 2013. Theodore
Wymyslo, James Obergefell s defendant in the original Ohio case, appealed the ruling against
Obergefell, which led to the case being pushed to higher courts throughout 2014, eventually reaching
the Supreme Court in 2015 (LGBT Rights on the Docket). In the Obergefell v. Hodges case,
Obergefell s side discussed topics such as the expansion of marriage and gay rights, the due process
clause of the Fourteenth Amendment, and the undeniable rights associated with marriage in their
argument. Hodges side, however, had much weaker arguments, such as same sex marriages will ruin
the reputation of marriage, and religious views are conflicting of the premise of same sex marriage.
Taking a more extensive look into both sides of this case proves to be very interesting and thought
provoking.
Oberefell s first argument was that marriage has

Comparing Plutarch And Suetonius

History 414

A great way to look at the writing styles of two separate biographers is to see how they present the life
of the same person. In this case we are lucky enough to have two ancient biographers who both have
focused one of their works on the life of Julius Caesar. These two ancient men are Plutarch and
Suetonius. By having two story tellers tell the story of the life of the same character, it makes each
writer s writing aspects that much more obvious to the reader. Plutarch has a very different collection
of features to his writing, but also see the importance of the military in that time to write his biography
about. Overall his writing is a a very good balance between informative and dramatic with different
personas to discuss aspects in Caesar s life. Suetonius has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Suetonius has a very different structured style of biography for Julius Caesar. Suetonius main focuses
is on Caesars conniving way to by any means manipulate his way into higher positions of power. A lot
of Suetonius sections book goes in great detail of how Julius was looking into political positions of
power and manipulations in order to attain those positions. Something that caught my eye is that
Suetonius was a section dedicated to simply describing the physical and mental attributes of Caesar.
Moreover, Suetonius didn t put these describing attributes throughout the biography, but saved them
all for their own little section in the biography. I think the most prominent attribute to Caesar s
personality that Suetonius makes known in his work is Caesar s love for a lavish lifestyle. Plutarch is
another ancient biographer who decides to write about the life of Julius Caesar. Plutarch also has a
very dramatic and or tragic element to his writing. By combing through his life story, Plutarch s
writing styles are discovered. Plutarch focuses mainly on military matters in Caesars life, while
sometimes adding

Anheuser Busch, The Largest Beer Distributing Company Of...
Anheuser Busch is the largest beer distributing company in the world. This is because over the years
dating back to 1852 they have been pioneers in both their product production and distribution. Over
the years they have faced a lot of criticism and setbacks. Most notably during Prohibition from 1920
through the early 1930s. In 2008 they were bought by the European company InBev and currently
hold 49.6% of the market share. Today through the modern era they have also been one of the most
successful companies when it comes to marketing their products.
After World War II, Anheuser Busch entered into a time of prosperity and growth. In 1955, August A.
Busch, Jr. made a personal television appearance to introduce the first successful new beer brand since
Prohibition, Busch Bavarian. To help market the brand, August Jr. tied Busch to America s national
pastime: baseball.
In the 1950s, Anheuser Busch tapped into the growing medium of television and became the first
brewery to sponsor a network television show, The Ken Murray Show, on CBS in 1950. Popular
campaigns, such as Pick a Pair, which urged customers to buy not one but two six packs at a time,
helped make Anheuser Busch the leading U.S. brewer in 1957 a position it retains today.
In the 1970s, advertising featuring memorable slogans helped keep Anheuser Busch s products in the
forefront of consumers minds. Budweiser s 1979 This Bud s for You campaign saluted everyday life,

Argument Essay On Abortion
The abortion argument is always a tough split decision. Some people lean towards pro life and some
towards pro choice. The pro life group believes that every fetus should be kept alive since they are a
developing human, and every human has a right to life. The pro choice believe that if it s the woman s
body it should be her choice, especially in a case of rape. For my stance on the argument I stand with
both pro life and pro choice due to certain arguments. These arguments came about after the Supreme
Court case of Roe vs. Wade.
The court case of Roe vs. Wade was decided in 1973 and under the fourteenth amendment abortion
became legal. This court case started when a woman wanted to get an abortion in the state of Texas
but abortions were only legal if it was for a medical reason. The woman did not have a medical reason
but she stated that due to her mental health and not being able to take contraceptives she should be
allowed to have an abortion. The court has then ruled a 7 to 2 vote that abortions are legal in the first
trimester, and the second and third would be ruled by the state. Since the legalization of abortion from
the Supreme Court case Roe vs. Wade, there have been over 54 million babies subjected to death by
abortion. Deaths due to abortion are said to be higher than those from the Holocaust, other major 20th
century genocides and even some World War II fatalities. The decision of the Roe vs. Wade case has
denied unborn babies the right to life which we should

An Reflection On The Impression Formation
INTRODUCTION:
Impression is a long lasting image of a person created in our minds which can last long for years.
There are a lot of research done by Solomon Asch (1946), Bruner Taiguri (1954), Rosenberg, Nelson
Vivekanathan (1968) to understand Impression Formation. According to Solomon Asch (1946) at a
glance of any person an impression of his personality can instantly form. Even by looking or talking
with that person a whole story about his entire character can be told. These impressions can be formed
quickly and easily which can enhance or distress our opinion on a person. Our ongoing observations
can t be change but we can neglect it. Even it is known that this process is not perfect but sometimes it
can be extremely sensitive. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There has been different studies that shows that skills of impression management work effectively. It
even helps in creating optimistic first impression of a person but it also cannot be true always. For
example, it s not always necessary that good first impression of a student (intelligent) on the first day
of school would be same, it can vary or change according to his performance in the class.
The question is why there is always different character in a person. And even when they have same
character what make them different from each other. According to Solomon Asch (1946) every
individual have different characteristics. For example, a person can have different characteristics like
he/she is intelligent, energetic, have great sense of humor, is very fast in his work, courageous,
punctual and humble with his fellows. This can create an impression of that person in our mind. A
combination of a person character make an impression of him/her on others. But the main question
asked by Solomon Asch (1946) We ask: How do the several characteristics function together to
produce an impression of one person? What principles regulate this process?
According to Asch (1946) the variety and way to which one goes elsewhere form the first information
given by the trait is variable but some traits have much more

To what extent can I determine my own destiny Essays
To what extent can I determine my own destiny? Discuss in the light of theories, ideas and research
encountered in the course.
Do I act as I do through choice or are my actions influenced by factors beyond our control? This
uncertainty has concerned psychologists for decades, consequently giving rise to the Autonomy versus
Determinism debate. By definition, autonomy is the belief that we are free to make decisions and thus
control all of our actions, however determinism contradicts this view by suggesting that all of our
actions are entirely determined by the external and internal forces operating on them. Nowadays It is
now commonly documented by most psychologists that it is a combination of both autonomy and
determinism that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Stevens3 1996:169) The Langer and Rodin study (1976) (Lalljee 1996:121) based in an American
nursing home shows the difference between two groups of elderly residents, those that were given the
chance to be autonomous were found that being in control made a critical difference to their well
being and longevity. However the residents that believed their well being was reliant on the nursing
staff were found to be less happy and their mortality rate was higher. This highlights the fact that to
have a happy life no matter what age we need to be autonomous.
Those in favour of determinism believe that behaviour is the product of internal or external forces
over which we have no control. As a result, human behaviour is arranged and therefore determined.
This idea is similar to that of scientific methods e.g. experiments. In an experiment we have the ability
to manipulate the variables, according to determinism all behaviour is causal, by this we sense that the
determinist feels we have the opportunity of controlling all human behaviour.
Supporting the determinist view is the biological approach, according to biological social
psychologists our behaviour is solely determined by our biological systems, they argue that we are
genetically determined. Cox and Klinger 1988 (Toates 1996:55)

Compare And Contrast Protestant Vs English Reformation
Back in the late 1400s and early 1500s, there were several different opinions of the Catholic church.
The Church was corrupt. The pope lived in luxury by spending money given to the Church, and
salvation was bought with money. While most people stayed quiet, a few leaders rose up to bring
change to the Church. These leaders started the Protestant and English Reformations, which were very
different from one another despite their common goal to change the Church into the ideals they
believed in. The Protestant and English Reformations were different because of their leaders and
values. The Protestant and English reformations had different leaders, which lead to different

Analysis Of The Maze Runner
The novel, The Maze Runner, is about a 16 year old boy, named Thomas, who wakes up in a metal
box that seems to be moving. As the darkness in the box starts fading, Thomas realizes that he must be
in an elevator. He hears harsh sounds of chains and pulleys, which terrifies him on his way up. When
Thomas reaches the top, 2 guys named, Alby and Gally pull him out of the elevator and greet him.
This is where Thomas realizes that all of his memory was gone. Alby had told him that his name will
come back to him within three days, meanwhile, he was called Greenie. This nickname Greenie was
given to everyone who came up the elevator that did not remember their names. After, welcoming
Thomas, Alby handed him over to this young boy named Chuck. Chuck was responsible to take
Thomas for a walk and introduce him to the Glade. The Glade is an open area of land, which is located
in the center of the maze. This is where the Gladers are forced to live and hang out. Outside of the
Glade is the maze, which is full of huge walls and vines and is the only hope of escape for the Gladers.
During the day, the doors to the maze open up, which allow the runners to go out and find an exit.
However, during the night, the doors close and the Grievers come out, which are huge slugs, that
harass and kill anyone that is trapped in the maze. The next day, Thomas is told to go to the forest to
grab some fertilizer. He sees a guy, named Ben, aggressively staring right at him. Thomas asks Ben if
he is okay, but Ben s response was, it is all your fault, and then attacks him. Thomas quickly runs back
to the Glade, getting away from Ben. As Ben tackles Thomas, Newt strikes Ben in the head with a rod
and punishes Ben by throwing him in the maze for breaking one of the three rules. The rule that Ben
broke was harming another glader. The other two rules that the Glade follows are, doing your part and
never setting foot out in the maze. Alby decides to go and explore the maze with the captain of the
runners, Minho. It is now late at night and all the Gladers are frightened, the doors to the maze are

How And Why A Leader Emerges From A Group Is Crucial For...
Understanding how and why a leader emerges from a group is crucial for understanding social
interactions and structures in almost any context. The leader follower dynamics shape relationships as
local as a small family relationships and as broad as top elected official s relationships with the public.
Whether its working to accomplish an organizational goal or mobilizing a movement to support a
worthy cause, leaders emerge and followers look towards them for guidance and direction. The most
interesting question, and the main objective of this paper, is how and why certain people lead and
while others follow. To answer this question, not only is it important to look at the individual
differences of emergent leaders but also the network ties formed between the leaders and the
followers. This paper will first review the variety of ways of measuring the establishment of a leader
through network analysis and then discuss the potential reasons for why leaders emerge. Leader
emergence is primarily split between three fronts, including 1) individual differences such as
personality and ties of the leader, 2) individual differences of the followers and 3) situational
differences such as network medium (i.e. in person or virtual) and leader selection processes. This
paper will also discuss how these leaders affect the entire network and organization. Finally, this paper
will discuss existing gaps in the the literature on emerging leadership in the context of network
analysis and

Personal Code Of Chivalry
A code of chivalry are beliefs that one follows. To some, it means that they must be courageous and

personal code of chivalry is important because it defines who I am and what I believe in. I believe in
being trustworthy, honest, caring, and inspirational to those who need it. Being trustworthy is very
important to me. It is a very good quality that everyone should possess but not everyone does. Being
trustworthy is how friends and family are able to rely on each other. When someone is trustworthy,
they are considered responsible by most. The definition of trustworthy is being able to be relied on as
honest or trustful. When someone is credible, it means that anything they say and do can be trusted.

  • 2. Essay On The Lesson In Catcher In The Rye The Lessons Taught in the Catcher in the Rye In the words of Juliette Lewis, The bravest thing [she has] ever done was [continue] to live when [she] wanted to die. J.D. Salinger, author of The Catcher in the Rye, envelops this quote into the mind of the main character, Holden Caulfield, as he struggles to find his place in the world. Holden Caulfield, a depressed teenage boy, does not want to grow up. Although he tries to act super mature, it is clear that he is not. Over the span of two days, he gets kicked out of school, encounters a prostitute, and consistently ponders about how he wants to stay a child forever. Many critics believe that this best selling novel should not be taught in schools anymore. However, The Catcher in the Rye ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If students do not read this book, then they too will be victims of speaking to people with this same exact disrespect. Lastly, when Holden is in his old school s bathroom he sees the words F*ck you (205) inscribed on the wall in red crayon. Though Holden is infuriated with the fact that this was written in a place for children, if students do not read this book in school they may think that both vandalization and profanity are tolerable, when really, they both bring negativity into the world. In essence, though the profanity displayed in the book is a controversial topic for critics, it is evident that this book must continue to be taught in schools so that children know the difference between right and wrong. On top of profanity, throughout the entire piece, Holden deals with extreme cases of depression. At first, Holden notifies readers of how depressed he was when his older brother Allie passed away as he expresses, I slept in the garage the night he died, and I broke all the goddam windows with my fist, just for the hell of it ( 39) when thinking back on the past. Holden s demeanor drastically changed when something horrific happened to him, and if this book is not taught in schools anymore, people dealing with the same types of feelings in real life could turn out just the same. Rather, Holden s aggravation should teach kids that violence is never ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Critics argue that Charlie shouldn t have gotten the A.I surgery because he regressed more than his normal I.Q of 68. Nevertheless, Charlie was very happy to have contributed to science and doesn t regret a thing about it. In a letter Charlie wrote, Yet for sake of science I am grateful for the little bit that I here to add to the knowledge of the human mind and of the laws governing the artificial increase of human intelligence (Keyes 239). In addition to that Charlie now is more knowledgeable of the world around him. I have reread my progress reports and seen the illiteracy, the childish naivete, the mind of a low intelligence peering from a dark room, through the keyhole, at a dazzling light outside (Keyes 237). This evidence proves that Charlie s life became substantially better after the surgery. Tripling Charlie s I.Q through the means of Artificial Intelligence drastically changed his life in a very positive way. Charlie was able to make true friends. Secondly, Charlie got to see what it was like to have emotions. Finally, Charlie was able to see the world in a completely different perspective. • 4. Leibniz s Principle Of The Identity Of Indiscernibles Leibniz s Principle of the Identity of Indiscernibles A1: Leibniz s Principle of the Identity of Indiscernibles (PII) The Principle of the Identity of Indiscernibles (PII) claims that in nature, there cannot be two individual things that differ in number alone (Primary Truths, p. 32). The symbolic notation of (PII) ∀P (Pa Pb) ( a = b) indicates that if, for every property P, thing a has property P if and only if thing b has property P, then thing a is identical to thing b. Hence, if two things (a and b) have exactly the same properties, they must be identical i.e. they must be the same thing (numerically one). So, in this paper, identities will be called unqualified (or basic) primary truths, and definitions will be called qualified (or derivative) primary truths. A3: Retracing Leibniz s Reasoning P1: Unqualified Primary Truths are identities. Sub P1: P1 is supplemented by the Principle of Contradiction (PC). P2: Qualified Primary Truths are partial identities with the help of a priori definitions. Sub P2: P2 is supplemented by the Principle of Sufficient Reason (PSR). C: So, there cannot be two indiscernible Primary Truths that differ in number alone (PII). Unqualified primary truths are identities since they (i) assert themselves (e.g., A is A ) or (ii) deny the opposite of their opposites (e.g., A is not not A ). Examples of Unqualified primary truths are: (i) I am always identical to myself , and (ii) I am always not not identical to myself . Leibniz claims that these type truths can be supplemented by his Principle of Contradiction (PC). PC states that anything which implies a contradiction is false. Hence, if people disagree with the claim (i) I am always identical to myself they would be claiming a falsehood. I can immediately point out that they are stating a contradiction i.e. A is not A contradicts A is A . A Worn Path Phoenix Jackson Essay At the beginning Eudora Welty explains that in the story A Worn Path her character, Phoenix Jackson, goes on a long journey on foot while also being very old. There are clues that she has been on this journey several times and the purpose of it is to get medicine for her sick grandson. We are never sure of the condition of the grandson nor do we see him as a character in the story. In this story the path she takes what seems like more than a mile walk, but she still pushes through all of the hardships that she comes across. She meets many characters along her walk like a dog, hunter, lady, attendant, and the nurse. Her determination is very high, and she seeks to get her job done no matter what happens to her. The time takes place close to Christmas, which makes this story kind of biblical. The Bible is a good source to this story because of its reference to Moses and his journeys. They compare Phoenix Jackson to Moses in many points of the story. Near the beginning, she uses her cane just as Moses uses his staff to clear a path. Exodus 14:21 22 (King James Version) in The Bible shows when Moses parted the red sea to clear a path while in A Worn Path Phoenix clears a path to safely walk across the water. • 21. Enchiridion By Epictetus Summary In Enchiridion by Epictetus, the claim in selection number 7 is that humans should not get attached to material things because when nature calls them to return to it, they will have to leave their material belongings. The human desire of materialism is often too difficult to satiate. As humans start to gain material possessions, they tend to forget the great value of nature which surpasses that of materialism. Sooner or later, humans will be disappointed by materialism since they placed their entire faith on it, instead of placing it on nature. According to Epictetus, humans only borrow material things, those do not belong to any person and therefore humans do not have control over them. However, Epictetus suggests that nature is part of humans, it is what dictates their fate and it is in what humans should relied on since nature is the reason for everything that happens. Therefore, people should be willing to leave their material possessions whenever nature calls them, it is beneficial to concentrate on the guidance of nature to fate, and not on materialism that will disappoint them when they cannot have it anymore. For instance, American Indians relied on nature to form their civilizations and traditions. Raw materials such as gold, silver, and copper, were not as valuable as they are in modern times since American Indians were aware that nature provided every material thing that they used. It is said that Nicomachean ethics were named after either Aristotle s father or son , as they were both named Nicomachus. Aristotle believed that happiness is what makes a person pure. To prove his point, Aristotle believed that there were four moral virtues that worked together; the virtue of great soul, the virtue of justice, the virtue of practical judgment and the virtue of being a truly good friend. Ten books have been written from Aristotle s lecture notes. In the first seven books, Aristotle goes over basic virtues and how they relate to each other and to moral values. Over the next few paragraphs, I will explain my understandings of Aristotle s virtues from these books. In Book I, Aristotle starts to discuss what Plato stated about the Theory of Forms, but mainly wants to define happiness, what is also known as Eudaimonia. Aristotle states in Book I, three ways in which people associate with happiness; slavish way of pleasure (majority of people), refined and active way of politics, (which aims at honor), and the way of contemplation (Aristotle: Nicomachean Ethics). Obergefell was arguing in favor of equal marriage rights, while Hodges had an opposing argument. This case was brought to the Supreme Court after the state of Ohio refused to put a married status on the death certificate of James Obergefell s late husband in 2013. Theodore Wymyslo, James Obergefell s defendant in the original Ohio case, appealed the ruling against Obergefell, which led to the case being pushed to higher courts throughout 2014, eventually reaching the Supreme Court in 2015 (LGBT Rights on the Docket). In the Obergefell v. Hodges case, Obergefell s side discussed topics such as the expansion of marriage and gay rights, the due process clause of the Fourteenth Amendment, and the undeniable rights associated with marriage in their argument. Hodges side, however, had much weaker arguments, such as same sex marriages will ruin the reputation of marriage, and religious views are conflicting of the premise of same sex marriage. The pro life group believes that every fetus should be kept alive since they are a developing human, and every human has a right to life. The pro choice believe that if it s the woman s body it should be her choice, especially in a case of rape. For my stance on the argument I stand with both pro life and pro choice due to certain arguments. These arguments came about after the Supreme Court case of Roe vs. Wade. The court case of Roe vs. Wade was decided in 1973 and under the fourteenth amendment abortion became legal. This court case started when a woman wanted to get an abortion in the state of Texas but abortions were only legal if it was for a medical reason. The woman did not have a medical reason but she stated that due to her mental health and not being able to take contraceptives she should be allowed to have an abortion. The court has then ruled a 7 to 2 vote that abortions are legal in the first trimester, and the second and third would be ruled by the state. Since the legalization of abortion from the Supreme Court case Roe vs. Wade, there have been over 54 million babies subjected to death by abortion. Even by looking or talking with that person a whole story about his entire character can be told. However the residents that believed their well being was reliant on the nursing staff were found to be less happy and their mortality rate was higher. This highlights the fact that to have a happy life no matter what age we need to be autonomous. This idea is similar to that of scientific methods e.g. experiments. In an experiment we have the ability to manipulate the variables, according to determinism all behaviour is causal, by this we sense that the determinist feels we have the opportunity of controlling all human behaviour.
