Cure of the Streets
The poet Rainer Maria Rilke says that a work of art is good if it has sprung from necessity (Farley).
Hip Hop was born on the poor and dangerous streets of the USA. Minorities such as African
Americans and Hispanics dominated these streets, and they felt the need to address their long standing
common issues. Therefore, a new form of art, hip hop was born, and became the method of self
expression for these minorities. Lyrics have presented what they have been through. While rap has
turned from a tool of self expression to a multi billion dollar industry, it has continued to
constructively affect the social and economic structure of the society. While serving as a good
alternative to the streets, hip hop positively uplifts the cultural barriers within the society and educates
the youth. In order to better understand the necessity and the influence of hip hop, the history of how
and where this music emerged is highly important. In the 1970s, Hip hop was born in the immensely
impoverished, crime ridden, drug infested streets of the Bronx , which were often called America s
worst slum or the epitome of urban failure (Price 4). Emmett Price III, the writer of Hip Hop Culture,
says that the ostracized, marginalized, and oppressed youth started hip hop as a liberation movement ,
and they aimed to combat against issues of racial prejudice, cultural persecution, and social,
economic, and political disparities (Price 1). From the 1970s to the 1990s, hip hop had increased

Westlake Lines
Introduction Westlake Bowling Lanes is a small business in downtown Raleigh. It was founded by late
Dane Sugar and is currently owned by Sugar s Raleigh based son, along with a pair of his close
friends. During Sugar s lifetime, he managed every aspect of the business, but after his death in
October, 2008, the new board of directors failed in hiring a suitable business manager, until 2009,
when they hired Shelby Givens (Sugar s granddaughter). The company currently faces serious
financial challenges. It was struggling with declining sales and increasing costs. Since 2004, revenues
had fallen by more than 40% while costs especially for employees health insurance, maintenance, and
utilities climbed. Credits and loans had been borrowed to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Capabilities refer to a firm s skill in using its resources to create goods and services. During the 1970s
and 1980s, Westlake lanes hosted a steady stream of family bowlers and birthday parties. Mr. Sugar
also cultivated popular bowling leagues, 32 weeks in duration, for his Raleigh friends and neighbours.
However, the capabilities of Westlake lanes can be described as a commodity that can be readily

Westlake Lanes has been in existence for over 30 years and this makes it valuable because of the
customers sense of trust and loyalty towards it and also because of its prime location in downtown
close to lively neighbourhoods. Givens educational background and skills increases the viability of the
business. | Therefore, it satisfies the value requirement. Although, this is not an advantage, because
value is just a necessary tool for competing in the industry. | These resources have helped it achieve
normal profit (i.e., profit that covers input and capital costs), up until now. | Rare | Westlake Lanes had
the capability to bring back old memories by playing the seventies and eighties music which is unique.
Also, loyalty is not easy to buy. West lake also has a very good relationship with its lenders. | Valuable
resources which are also rare convey a competitive advantage, but its relative permanence is not

How Is Holden Caulfield A Hero
Don t ever tell anybody anything. If you do, you start missing everybody (Salinger 214). Much of the
story Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger consists of Holden Caulfield s social interactions with others
and his adventure home after being expelled from what seems like just another school amongst many
in his history. It goes without saying that JD Salinger has made a classic hit novel through the
integration of an eccentric main character and an unconventional plot. Although the plot is abnormal,
the oddity translates into something noteworthy as the book still retains the noteworthy qualities of
any other award winning book.
The exposition of Catcher in the Rye depicts troubled youth Holden Caulfield on his last day attending
Pencey Prep School forever as he was expelled just before winter break due to his low grades in most
of his classes. Holden spends his last day at Pencey in hopes of making some fond memories.
However, he ends up receiving an interminable speech about applying himself from his history teacher
Dr. Spencer. On top of this, Holden also gets into a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He has a hard time opening himself up and just telling the truth so he resorts to the defense mechanism
known as lying. Don t ever tell anybody anything. If you do, you start missing everybody. (Salinger

became involved in a skirmish with a manager in charge of prostitutes over a money dispute. Why
should I give her another five bucks? I said. My voice was cracking all over the place. You re trying to
chisel me (Salinger 103). He also gets into a fight with a childhood friend, adding to the tension. We
both hated each other s guts by that time. You could see there wasn t any sense trying to have an

How Does A Ballerina On The Form Of Dance
Every time you step onto the stage the movement you show reveals you as the dancer but also the
dance that was created. A ballet isn t as simple as an arabesque or balancé de côté that are put together
to provide a show. Each ballerina on the stage brings their own personal approach to how they dance,
it s a little more psychological than one may think. As said by Likolani Brown you have to work hard
but also not lose track of who you are and you have to remember why you do it. You do it because you
love it and you have something individual to give to the art. For a dancer it s not just the determination
but the personality in dancing that fully brings one to the art. In ballet or any form of dance there are
two elements which are inward and outward. Inward being the choreography or creativity of an artist
tied together with the outward putting pressure on that artist to create a product. This product of art
has to keep the ballet world spinning even though so little is understood about the ballet. So, how can
we as ballerinas can we really communicate the inward with each other or with the audience when the
pressure of the outward lies so heavily? A ballerina will speak no words but will be heard because the
movements that we make is our own form of communication. Movements, choreography, terminology
are all things a ballerina would use to really say something, to explore and discover more about each
other. For dancers this form is so unique and special to us because we

Santa Claus Stereotypes
Dreams of a White Christmas Without a doubt, Santa Claus is one of America s, if not the world s,
most iconic figures. A symbol of the secular West s religion of consumerism, Santa Claus and his
twelve reindeer have hijacked the holiday dedicated to the birth of Jesus Christ, and replaced it with
the gospel of spending. As both a cultural icon and the patron saint of capitalism, the depiction of
Santa Claus in recent years has been seriously debated. While today he is near universally depicted as
a portly old man, in a red and white suit and with a long, white beard, some argue that Santa s image
should reflect the changing demographics of the American public. Last year, a national debate ensued
after author Aisha Harris wrote for Slate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
. . Making Santa Claus an animal rather than an old white male could spare millions of nonwhite kids
the insecurity and shame that I remember from childhood. Whether you celebrate the holiday or not,
Santa is one of the first iconic figures foisted upon you: He exists as an incredibly powerful image in
the imaginations of children across the country (and beyond, of course). That this genial, jolly man
can only be seen as white and consequently, that a Santa of any other hue is merely a joke or a chance
to trudge out racist stereotypes helps perpetuate the whole white as default notion endemic to
American culture (and, of course, not just American culture).
Despite the surface frivolity of this argument, it highlights some deeper issues endemic in race politics
in contemporary America. While the white as default notion may not strike many white Americans as
particularly problematic, if they even notice it, it does make sense that children would like to see
cultural images that reflect themselves, and not in ways that are merely comical or ironic. However,
when Megyn Kelly at Fox news read Harris s argument, she took an entirely different stance on the
preferable imagery of Santa Claus. In her segment, Kelly addresses the children and adult members of
her audience by

The Garden Of Forking Paths Rhetorical Analysis
Herrick Fang Writ 1 14, SI 2015 The Garden of Motivation In difficult situations, people attempt to
rationalize harsh tasks before completing them. In Jorge Luis Borges s fictional short story, The
Garden of Forking Paths, a Chinese man named Yu Tsun is forced to spy against the British during
World War I for Germany. His mission is to reveal the location of the city Albert, a task he completes
by killing Stephen Albert, a man with the same last name. But, Yu Tsun never wants to kill him. He
does not want to kill Albert because he detests Germany and respects Albert. Yu Tsun appreciates
Albert for solving his family s puzzling mystery, a mystery about a book that Yu Tsun s ancestor wrote
called the Garden of Forking Paths. At a first glance, it is questionable why Yu Tsun kills Albert if he
never wants to kill him. We notice that just like other people, Yu Tsun needs to identify a strong
rationalization before allowing himself to kill Albert, a rationalization he discovers when Albert
explains the meaning of the Garden of Forking Paths, an interpretation of the universe that every
choice creates a web of outcomes that all occur; Stephen Albert will inevitably die in one of the many
outcomes, so Yu Tsun feels justified of the assassination. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

even compares Albert to Goethe, a famous German writer and statesmen, to underscore how Albert is
brilliant. Yu Tsun has clear feelings of great admiration towards Albert, even though they briefly meet.
Hence, it is hard for Yu Tsun to kill Albert. It does not make sense for Yu Tsun to kill a man he

Changing Food Labels
Consumers could spend as much as $10 more per product if proposed label changes go through. The
FDA is proposing new food labels by changing its look, and what information is places on the label.
Improving food labels would not improve the public s health because it is (1)costly, (2)will take lots of
time and, (3)it is unnecessary. I believe that the new labels won t help public health because people are
not educated enough to know how to read them. More money should be spent on educating people on
the labels rather than changing them. If the new labels are made the people who knew how to read
them before will now have to learn how to read the new labels. With the new labels means more
money spent on things that is unneeded.

Grand Theft Auto IIi ( Abbreviated Iv )
Video games have been enjoyed by millions of gamers for decades, and the industry is wildly popular.
Video games are a great way for a person to sit back and relax and to have fun doing it. In 2001, a
game designing company known as DMA Design (now Rockstar North) changed the video game
industry forever with the release of Grand Theft Auto III (abbreviated as GTA III). Grand Theft Auto
III was one of the most influential video games because it was the first massively popular game to
include a fully explorable open world, combine many different video game genres into a successful
game, include a wealth of content, and spawn countless sandbox games that attempted to recreate
GTA III s success. No product can succeed in the market without proper marketing and exposure.
Grand Theft Auto III was very controversial, as it included swearing, violence, prostitutes, and more.
It received a lot of backlash and criticism from the media, but that only led to its increased popularity
among gamers (Leigh). GTA III s media exposure is a part of what made it so popular, and that is what
led to its large influence on the video game industry. While it was not the first game to include an
open world, Grand Theft Auto III was the first game to include a fully explorable open city on a large
scale. In addition to the open world, players were not forced to mindlessly complete mission after
mission until finishing the game and letting it collect dust on the shelf. Instead, GTA III allowed

The Rise Of The Industrial Revolution
With the hum of new machines came the buzz of prominent voices and ideologies within the Industrial
Revolution. The Industrial Revolution began in England around the eighteenth century. It was a period
of time where there was a transition from rural agriculture to powered machinery, and mass
production of goods. Though the goods increased, a new social system also emerged, which
consequently caused tensions between the working class and the bourgeoisie. These strains between
the proletarian group and the bourgeoisie gave rise to many political responses as to how the economy
should be carried out. Philosophers of the Industrial Revolution often debated on whether to leave the
economic system for how it was, a call for reform, or overthrowing the system as a whole by means of
a revolution. The philosophers that defended the new system believed that the economic structure
should have the freedom from government intervention, called the laissez faire political economy, so
that they could act on self interest in order to create greater goods for the greatest profit. A notable
philosopher who strongly defended the new economic system was Harriet Martineau. Harriet
Martineau was a classic liberal who firmly believed that workers should leave their wages to the
supply and demands of the free market. She defended the laissez faire system because she believed
that the competition in the market would lead to a balance between payout and profit, which would
lead to higher wages and

Social Unrest In Russia
3. Use source F and your own knowledge to explain why there was social unrest in Russia between
1890 and 1914.
Extremely unbalanced economy, uneven distribution of wealth and power between social classes
alongside political repression and military defeat were all contributing factors to the social unrest in
Russia. Social classes played an important role since the Tsar only satisfied the Upper Class resulting
in a lavish lifestyle for them meanwhile 87.5% lived in extreme poverty. The contrast between classes
and the different standards of living is what truly catalysed the social unrest. In 1902 bad harvests and
economic slumps meant starvation was a battle that peasants had to face everyday and by 1904

Corresponding author: Md. Sourove Akther Momin (sur.sor269@gmail.com) Abstract: SPC
(statistical process control) is an important tool to solve the manufacturing problem and the most
modernized effective scheme to obtain process durability and fostering the process pertinence
decreasing the variability. In manufacturing system, products do not run up against the proper
province of quality permanently with the customer desire. This impermanency appears due to various
productions of variations like machines, operators, materials, etc. The main purpose of control chart is
to monitor the changes, and subsequently governing the scheme. The study deals with controlling and
upliftment of the quality of pipe through checking and observing the pipe s height, diameter and
weight from pipe industry. From the investigation, X bar chart, S and R control chart are developed
for the variables. Furthermore, EWMA (exponentially weighted moving average) is used to focus for
identifying the small process shifts All of the investigation represent, the process is in control or not.
For the process out of control status, the assignable causes behind it be marked out and foreclosed by
taking proper steps.

Reaction Paper About Mermaids
Mermaids those half human, half fish sirens of the ocean are fabulous ocean animals recorded on
oceanic societies since time immemorial. The name comes from mer meaning sea, and the male
version is called Merman. But can such a creature really exist? Between a myth and a reality, the
Mermaids topic has raised a lot of conflicts and questions. People wondered how such a creature could
be real. A lot of Researches were made, a lot of fossils were observed, in order to find answers. From
Greek mythology to sailors testimony, Mermaids have various hypothesizes.

The most prevalent myth was that Mermaids attract sailors by their beautiful voice, and when sailors
arrive, they face their destinies. In other words, they can be carriers of terrible fortune, capable of
causing storms and slaughtering people. However, some Greek myths described Mermaids as helpful
to everyone; when they were in a decent state of mind, they would safeguard people. In a silvery cave,
live the golden haired Nereids or sea nymphs that helped sailors fighting perilous storms. (A mermaid
and a magic comb)
Moreover, mermaids are too frequently said to be able to love humans after which they set out to
discover a cure to get freed of their fish tail for legs.
But does Mermaids really exist?
Ichthyologist made a lot of researches on Mermaids, including looking at fossils and sea history. They
found no evidence of aquatic humanoids. They added that what sailors saw was probably the Mentees
creature , which has the same size of humans. No one has ever captured a Mermaid. . In addition, the
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration posted a statement on its website denouncing the
supposed existence of the half human, half fish beings. No evidence of aquatic humanoids has ever
been found.

Connie Monologue Of Ellie
Ellie at first may be viewed by the reader as simply a background character to this story, someone for
the two main focal points to bounce ideas off of and to add some variation to what could easily be
viewed as tedious. I beg to differ on this opinion though, as his role is hinted at during the beginning
sentences of the story as a foil to his character is brought up by Connie. ¨... Connie´s mother kept

457) To sum it up in a simple terms, he was experiencing denial of what is truly going on and is
attempting to avoid direct verbal contact with either Arnold or Connie for the majority of the story. A
theory could be that at one point, he attempted to speak up against an action only to suffer some sort
of unknown consequences, and seeing others react in a similar manner causes him to go through active
revision of the event, which persuades him once again to not take action in the present. Even though
the most likely thing that it is actually a form of unconscious repression, to avoid the anxiety of him

My suspicions were confirmed as she went on to say It s always dumb stuff like people getting mad

anger is escalating, said hurriedly with the determination to end my tirade before it started, It doesn t
matter anyway, okay? It didn t happen to you or to me so don t trip about it. And anyways, it s not like
I m racist or anything. I don t see color when I look at people. Her attempt to extinguish my defense
only added more fuel to my fire.
Rachel and I first disagreed on what happened to Aisha and why it happened. As objective as one can
be, I believed there was enough anecdotal evidence to prove that the company did indeed discriminate
and not hire people based on their skin color and their race. Rachel first tried to offer explanations for

Examples Of Susanna Kayson In The Movie Girl
Diagnosis Susanna Kayson is a character in the film Girl, interrupted that has borderline personality
disorder (BPD) (Wick, Konrad, Mangold, 1999). As Susanna Kayson meets 5 of the 9 Diagnostic and
Statistical Manual 5 criteria, Susanna can be diagnosed with BPD.
According to criteria 1, Susanna often restrains from stating her true feelings about a situation or a
person to maintain relationships. Lisa, a resident of the psychiatric ward, would tease or humiliate
Daisy, eventually leading her to commit suicide. Susanna knew that Lisa s actions were inappropriate
but she did not stand up for Daisy. (Barlow, Durand, Stewart, Lalumiere, 2015). Criteria 2 is shown
when Susanna s boyfriend Toby comes to visit, a staff member catches them in the middle of a sexual
act and they decide to escape to the grounds. Toby states he wants to be with her, and she says that she
had no desire to be with him. An example of criteria 5, Susanna tries to commit suicide by consuming
a bottle of aspirin with a bottle of vodka, and later also states that she understands what it feels like to

What Is Humor In Humor
We often laugh when we see something funny or amusing. In context of informal situation with my
friends I often say funny but in formal context I have found difficulties in finding the formal way to
say funny. After searching the synonym of funny in Meriam Webster dictionary, amusing has caught
my attention and it is indeed sounds politer to me. Therefore, I have been using amusing in formal
context when I meet new people as well as my superior. The problem is, it is correct to make a
statement that amusing is for formal situation and funny for the informal situation. Are there any
differences in context of using funny and amusing that deny the statement?
This paper is aimed to find the appropriate ways to use funny and amusing in our daily conversation.

According to Hanks (2012), corpus linguistics is primarily concerned with interpreting observed
language in order to arrive at statements on patterns in word meaning or syntactic composition.
Collocations was first brought up by Palmer (1933) in English language teaching. However, in 1957,
Firth introduced collocations to the theoretical linguistics. Collocations are pervasive in texts of all
genres and domains. Collocation can be defined as the grammatical company a word keeps and the
positions it refers (Hoey, 2005).
English is rich in synonyms and it often become a great challenge for EFL (English as Foreign
Language) learners. Church (1994) in his article did a lexical substitutability test in a corpus study of
the near synonyms ask for, request and demand, which results the same finding: the substitutability of
lexical items in the same linguistic context constitutes a good indicator of their semantic similarity.

Pioneers that Travelled across the Great Plains
Pioneers that travelled across the Great Plains would often run into trouble and suffer terrible deaths.
The Donner Party was one of those parties; however, the story connected to the name is much more
infamous than others. It is a story of suffering, betrayal, survival, and acts of necessity. Perhaps the
most interesting fact about these acts is that they were performed by everyday farmers, traders, and
businessmen. The reasons for these acts were, more than likely, out of the will to survive, but there
may a greater story behind such acts of monstrosity.
People first started to travel (pioneer) to the west since the early 1800s. The reason to move varied
from family to family, many sought a new beginning from the economic depression in the late 1830s.
Some wanted to escape political strife and religious persecution. Some moved to join family members
and seek adventure and new opportunities. The majority of emigrants had as their main reason either
land or gold. The most famously travelled trail is the Oregon Trail. This trail is the nation s longest
graveyard, killing nearly one tenth of all travelers (Utah State History, 2014). Many wagon and hand
cart groups took the rough 2,000 mile trail to go west; one of these groups was the James Reed Party.
It is more famously known as the Donner Party. A Common Goal
In April of 1846, a group of eight families in Illinois gathered together to find for a better life in the
west. A businessman by the name of James Reed sent out

The neo Nazi expressed his racist, sexist, and homophobic views of America are anathema to him.
This was a highlight in the movie because it pointed out gender, race, and class. He felt that women,
African Americans and gay men were less than everyone else. That white males were better and he
thought that Bill was reliable to him, but he wasn t. At the end of that scene, Bill is wearing a G. I. Joe
outfit, which symbolize gender, power and violence. Aside from this scene, there were a few scenes
that highlighted race and class. In the beginning with the Korean store owner, Bill questioned his
authority and why he was in his country and why he couldn t speak his language. Bill casted him as an
outsider and someone who didn t belong. Bill had a sense that he was better than the store owner
because he was American. So we see a race issue there. As far as class, even though Foster was
walking around a bad neighborhood and he lost everything, he still manage to give off a I m better

Mozart, Also Known As Johann Chrysostom Wolfgang Amadeus
Mozart, also known as Johann Chrysostom Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was an Austrian composer
who was recognized as one of the greatest composers of the Western Hemisphere. Mozart was
considered equal to Haydn and beethoven for he improved upon the Viennese Musical School. Some
of the things that made Mozart different from other composers was that he wrote and practiced all
genres of music, and was quite skilled at it as well. He also had a great amount of skill in his every
one of the genres he has practiced. There are many factors that have influenced his music. For
example, his childlike personality and other factors such as his life experiences, caused by his father,

In addition to uttered vulgar platitudes, 34 Mozart s frequent facial grimaces, inadvertent repetitive
movements of hands and feet, and jumping, 43,44 have been regarded by some as phonic and motor
tics and used to support the diagnosis of TS, for example: Mozart s sister‐in‐law, wrote in one of her
letters that he often used to touch his napkin to his lips, make grimaces, tap his hands or feet on
objects, or play with hats, pockets, tables and chairs seemingly playing clavier, and so this shows how
some of his actions were very much impulsive much like a child. Mozart also used to write letters to
his family members, especially his sister and wife.
The content of the letters that he used to send was different from other things that he used to send to
family members and other loved ones, for example: Milan, Oct. 5, 1771: I AM in good health, but
always sleepy. Papa has snatched from my pen all that I had to write about, which is, that he has
already written everything. Signora Gabrielli is here, and we are soon going to see her, as we wish to
become acquainted with all distinguished singers.
His use of words such as Papa shows the childish aspect of his personality. Children tend to change
action quickly and act in different ways, they live in their heads most of the time and enjoy life to the
fullest, Mozart also acted

Fukushima Nuclear Meltdown Essay
The 2011 Fukushima nuclear meltdown was sparked by a massive tsunami off the coast of Japan
caused by a 9.0 magnitude earthquake. It decimated the nuclear reactor and sent hazardous nuclear
waste spewing out into the Pacific ocean. Japanese fish have tested positive for dangerous levels of
radiation and now, it seems, fish as far away as the US have been infected by the waste. Alaskan
Salmon is imported for sale in most major UK supermarkets when Scottish salmon is out of season.
After being caught in the Pacific, these fish then make a 22,000 mile journey via China to supermarket

Prospero And Ariel s Relationship Quotes
For Ariel, he has Prospero s name engraved in his heart to signify that Ariel belongs to Prospero and
must do his bidding. The character also has a backbone made from gold chains to demonstrate that
Ariel is Prospero s personal slave, but is trying to get freedom, he is close to his goal as gold is a weak
metal that can be broken easily. Within the character s eyes, bird is written inside to signify the
character s ultimate desire to be free in the wild just as how birds can fly freely. Ariel also stands on
top of welcome mat to show the character s peaceful nature that makes him beloved by his master.

Prospero states, Why, that s my dainty Ariel. I shall miss thee, [but] yet thou shalt have freedom. So,
so, so. To the king s ship, invisible as thou art. The quote takes up the final words of Prospero to Ariel
in that Ariel has gained freedom, which has been the character s ultimate goal throughout the play.
Then in Act 4, Scene 1, Ariel sates, Before you can say Come and Go, And breathe twice and cry So,
so! Each one, tripping on his toe, will be here with mop and mow. Do you love me, master, no? Ariel
is wanting his master s approval stating that he is loyal person who wants to be trusted, thus showing
his character. For Caliban, his main flaw can be stated by Prospero in Act 1, Scene 2 in which Caliban
is called, Thou liest, malignant thing! Hast thou forgot. The foul witch Sycorax, who with age and
envy. Was grown into a hoop? Hast thou forgot her? This shows the Caliban has been lying about his
position in the island, this is a part of his evil properties that composes him to do anything for island s
ownership. However, Caliban still follows Prospero s rule due to his magic as stated in Act 1, Scene 2
in which he states, No, pray thee. (aside) I must obey. His art is of such power. It would control my
dam s god. Setebos, And make a vassal of him. The quote signifies that he afraid of his master, so that

Brokeback Mountain compare and contrast Essay
First, I applaud the movie for daring to tell a story that nobody else presumed creating. Even in 2005,
this was a pretty prohibited thing to discuss. To its credit, the movie follows the original story fairly
close, but a details were left out that made all the difference.
The short story Brokeback Mountain (1997) written by Annie Proulx received a lot of attention when
it was first published in the New Yorker. The story is about the relationship between Jack Twist and
Ennis Del Mar, two cowboys who develop a forbidden love for each other and have to live separate
lives. They first meet when they both get hired to herd sheep on Brokeback Mountain in Wyoming.
The movie adaptations by the director Ang Lee, came out 2005. And it received ... Show more content

They actually talk about it, how much better this is than with any woman. It shows them close, it
shows them getting personal, even discussing the possibility of running away together. The movie did
not discribe the emotional intimacy Jack and Ennis shared even before they had sex. Ennis s emotional
transformation in Jack s company appears in the book with the line, Ennis, riding against the wind
back to the sheep in the treacherous, drunken light, thought he d never had such a good time, felt he
could paw the white out of the moon. The deep friendship does not reveal in the movie, the way the
book does, which was the foundation for their love. (Walford, Compare/contrast the book vs. the
movie, ennisjack, 2006)
Alma take a quite big part in the short story, because of Ennis and his importance. As I mentioned
before, Ennis is more well portrayed than Jack and this makes Ennis and Alma s relationship more
evident. In December Ennis married Alma Beers and had her pregnant by mid January. This shows
how Alma is mentioned only because of Ennis. Whereas Jack and Laureen s relationship in the short
story is insignificant and unutterable. I got a boy, said Jack. Eight months old. Tell you what, I married
a cute little old Texas girls down in Childress Laureen. This is the only time Jack mention Laureen, the
others are Ennis trying to make him remember her. You got your baby and wife, that place in Texas. In
the film we get the opportunity to

Guardrail Vegetation Research Paper
Safety is a number one priority when it comes to roadways, whether it s being in a vehicle, walking
across the road or riding a bicycle. One factor of being safe on and near roadways is to know your
surroundings. Guardrail vegetation is a major concern in many states because the guardrails and signs
need to be visible at all times, but some vegetation makes the guardrails and signs sightless. Currently,
herbicides are the cheapest and most efficient method, only if applied twice every season. According
to Washington State s Department of Transportation, if managed properly, roadside vegetation can
become self sustaining over time and require less maintenance, which would help reduce both the cost
and herbicide use. However, herbicides are unhealthy for humans and the environment. When the
application process occurs, those applying the herbicides are required to wear suits to be protected
from the dangerous chemicals. While the herbicides treat the weeds, it also increases the risk of
erosion, resulting in an uneven line between bare ground and living vegetation. Herbicides can be a
temporary solution, but if used for years, will result in a limited number of species that will be able to
grow. Of the surviving ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another concern is the molding on and around the guardrail posts can provide an opportunity for
vegetation growth, this has been seen in Delaware. Another method is to place weed barriers on the
roadsides. While this method seems to be the best solution, it requires a large amount of maintenance.
The barriers must have the amount of organic and inorganic debris monitored to prevent build up,
which can cause grass to grow. Even though maintenance is required to monitor and clean, this is a
viable option where herbicides and any chemical use is

  • 2. Cure of the Streets The poet Rainer Maria Rilke says that a work of art is good if it has sprung from necessity (Farley). Hip Hop was born on the poor and dangerous streets of the USA. Minorities such as African Americans and Hispanics dominated these streets, and they felt the need to address their long standing common issues. Therefore, a new form of art, hip hop was born, and became the method of self expression for these minorities. Lyrics have presented what they have been through. While rap has turned from a tool of self expression to a multi billion dollar industry, it has continued to constructively affect the social and economic structure of the society. While serving as a good alternative to the streets, hip hop positively uplifts the cultural barriers within the society and educates the youth. In order to better understand the necessity and the influence of hip hop, the history of how and where this music emerged is highly important. In the 1970s, Hip hop was born in the immensely impoverished, crime ridden, drug infested streets of the Bronx , which were often called America s worst slum or the epitome of urban failure (Price 4). Emmett Price III, the writer of Hip Hop Culture, says that the ostracized, marginalized, and oppressed youth started hip hop as a liberation movement , and they aimed to combat against issues of racial prejudice, cultural persecution, and social, economic, and political disparities (Price 1). From the 1970s to the 1990s, hip hop had increased ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was founded by late Dane Sugar and is currently owned by Sugar s Raleigh based son, along with a pair of his close friends. During Sugar s lifetime, he managed every aspect of the business, but after his death in October, 2008, the new board of directors failed in hiring a suitable business manager, until 2009, when they hired Shelby Givens (Sugar s granddaughter). The company currently faces serious financial challenges. It was struggling with declining sales and increasing costs. • 4. How Is Holden Caulfield A Hero Don t ever tell anybody anything. If you do, you start missing everybody (Salinger 214). Much of the story Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger consists of Holden Caulfield s social interactions with others and his adventure home after being expelled from what seems like just another school amongst many in his history. It goes without saying that JD Salinger has made a classic hit novel through the integration of an eccentric main character and an unconventional plot. Although the plot is abnormal, the oddity translates into something noteworthy as the book still retains the noteworthy qualities of any other award winning book. The exposition of Catcher in the Rye depicts troubled youth Holden Caulfield on his last day attending Pencey Prep School forever as he was expelled just before winter break due to his low grades in most of his classes. Holden spends his last day at Pencey in hopes of making some fond memories. However, he ends up receiving an interminable speech about applying himself from his history teacher Dr. Spencer. • 5. How Does A Ballerina On The Form Of Dance Every time you step onto the stage the movement you show reveals you as the dancer but also the dance that was created. A ballet isn t as simple as an arabesque or balancé de côté that are put together to provide a show. Each ballerina on the stage brings their own personal approach to how they dance, it s a little more psychological than one may think. As said by Likolani Brown you have to work hard but also not lose track of who you are and you have to remember why you do it. You do it because you love it and you have something individual to give to the art. For a dancer it s not just the determination but the personality in dancing that fully brings one to the art. In ballet or any form of dance there are two elements which are inward and outward. Inward being the choreography or creativity of an artist tied together with the outward putting pressure on that artist to create a product. This product of art has to keep the ballet world spinning even though so little is understood about the ballet. So, how can we as ballerinas can we really communicate the inward with each other or with the audience when the pressure of the outward lies so heavily? A ballerina will speak no words but will be heard because the movements that we make is our own form of communication. Movements, choreography, terminology are all things a ballerina would use to really say something, to explore and discover more about each other. For dancers this form is so unique and special to us because we ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Santa Claus Stereotypes Dreams of a White Christmas Without a doubt, Santa Claus is one of America s, if not the world s, most iconic figures. A symbol of the secular West s religion of consumerism, Santa Claus and his twelve reindeer have hijacked the holiday dedicated to the birth of Jesus Christ, and replaced it with the gospel of spending. As both a cultural icon and the patron saint of capitalism, the depiction of Santa Claus in recent years has been seriously debated. While today he is near universally depicted as a portly old man, in a red and white suit and with a long, white beard, some argue that Santa s image should reflect the changing demographics of the American public. Last year, a national debate ensued after author Aisha Harris wrote for Slate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... . . Making Santa Claus an animal rather than an old white male could spare millions of nonwhite kids the insecurity and shame that I remember from childhood. Whether you celebrate the holiday or not, Santa is one of the first iconic figures foisted upon you: He exists as an incredibly powerful image in the imaginations of children across the country (and beyond, of course). That this genial, jolly man can only be seen as white and consequently, that a Santa of any other hue is merely a joke or a chance to trudge out racist stereotypes helps perpetuate the whole white as default notion endemic to American culture (and, of course, not just American culture). Despite the surface frivolity of this argument, it highlights some deeper issues endemic in race politics in contemporary America. While the white as default notion may not strike many white Americans as particularly problematic, if they even notice it, it does make sense that children would like to see cultural images that reflect themselves, and not in ways that are merely comical or ironic. However, when Megyn Kelly at Fox news read Harris s argument, she took an entirely different stance on the preferable imagery of Santa Claus. In her segment, Kelly addresses the children and adult members of her audience by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Garden Of Forking Paths Rhetorical Analysis Herrick Fang Writ 1 14, SI 2015 The Garden of Motivation In difficult situations, people attempt to rationalize harsh tasks before completing them. In Jorge Luis Borges s fictional short story, The Garden of Forking Paths, a Chinese man named Yu Tsun is forced to spy against the British during World War I for Germany. His mission is to reveal the location of the city Albert, a task he completes by killing Stephen Albert, a man with the same last name. But, Yu Tsun never wants to kill him. He does not want to kill Albert because he detests Germany and respects Albert. Yu Tsun appreciates Albert for solving his family s puzzling mystery, a mystery about a book that Yu Tsun s ancestor wrote called the Garden of Forking Paths. At a first glance, it is questionable why Yu Tsun kills Albert if he never wants to kill him. We notice that just like other people, Yu Tsun needs to identify a strong rationalization before allowing himself to kill Albert, a rationalization he discovers when Albert explains the meaning of the Garden of Forking Paths, an interpretation of the universe that every choice creates a web of outcomes that all occur; Stephen Albert will inevitably die in one of the many outcomes, so Yu Tsun feels justified of the assassination. ... He even compares Albert to Goethe, a famous German writer and statesmen, to underscore how Albert is brilliant. The FDA is proposing new food labels by changing its look, and what information is places on the label. I believe that the new labels won t help public health because people are not educated enough to know how to read them. More money should be spent on educating people on the labels rather than changing them. • 12. Grand Theft Auto IIi ( Abbreviated Iv ) Video games have been enjoyed by millions of gamers for decades, and the industry is wildly popular. Video games are a great way for a person to sit back and relax and to have fun doing it. In 2001, a game designing company known as DMA Design (now Rockstar North) changed the video game industry forever with the release of Grand Theft Auto III (abbreviated as GTA III). Grand Theft Auto III was one of the most influential video games because it was the first massively popular game to include a fully explorable open world, combine many different video game genres into a successful game, include a wealth of content, and spawn countless sandbox games that attempted to recreate GTA III s success. No product can succeed in the market without proper marketing and exposure. Grand Theft Auto III was very controversial, as it included swearing, violence, prostitutes, and more. It received a lot of backlash and criticism from the media, but that only led to its increased popularity among gamers (Leigh). GTA III s media exposure is a part of what made it so popular, and that is what led to its large influence on the video game industry. While it was not the first game to include an open world, Grand Theft Auto III was the first game to include a fully explorable open city on a large scale. In addition to the open world, players were not forced to mindlessly complete mission after mission until finishing the game and letting it collect dust on the shelf. Instead, GTA III allowed ... • 13. The Rise Of The Industrial Revolution With the hum of new machines came the buzz of prominent voices and ideologies within the Industrial Revolution. The Industrial Revolution began in England around the eighteenth century. It was a period of time where there was a transition from rural agriculture to powered machinery, and mass production of goods. Though the goods increased, a new social system also emerged, which consequently caused tensions between the working class and the bourgeoisie. These strains between the proletarian group and the bourgeoisie gave rise to many political responses as to how the economy should be carried out. Philosophers of the Industrial Revolution often debated on whether to leave the economic system for how it was, a call for reform, or overthrowing the system as a whole by means of a revolution. The philosophers that defended the new system believed that the economic structure should have the freedom from government intervention, called the laissez faire political economy, so that they could act on self interest in order to create greater goods for the greatest profit. A notable philosopher who strongly defended the new economic system was Harriet Martineau. Harriet Martineau was a classic liberal who firmly believed that workers should leave their wages to the supply and demands of the free market. She defended the laissez faire system because she believed that the competition in the market would lead to a balance between payout and profit, which would lead to higher wages and ... Extremely unbalanced economy, uneven distribution of wealth and power between social classes alongside political repression and military defeat were all contributing factors to the social unrest in Russia. Social classes played an important role since the Tsar only satisfied the Upper Class resulting in a lavish lifestyle for them meanwhile 87.5% lived in extreme poverty. The contrast between classes and the different standards of living is what truly catalysed the social unrest. This impermanency appears due to various productions of variations like machines, operators, materials, etc. The main purpose of control chart is to monitor the changes, and subsequently governing the scheme. The study deals with controlling and upliftment of the quality of pipe through checking and observing the pipe s height, diameter and weight from pipe industry. From the investigation, X bar chart, S and R control chart are developed for the variables. Furthermore, EWMA (exponentially weighted moving average) is used to focus for identifying the small process shifts All of the investigation represent, the process is in control or not. For the process out of control status, the assignable causes behind it be marked out and foreclosed by taking proper steps. Keywords: SPC, control chart, EWMA, quality. The Donner Party was one of those parties; however, the story connected to the name is much more infamous than others. It is a story of suffering, betrayal, survival, and acts of necessity. Perhaps the most interesting fact about these acts is that they were performed by everyday farmers, traders, and businessmen. The reasons for these acts were, more than likely, out of the will to survive, but there may a greater story behind such acts of monstrosity. People first started to travel (pioneer) to the west since the early 1800s. The reason to move varied from family to family, many sought a new beginning from the economic depression in the late 1830s. Some wanted to escape political strife and religious persecution. Some moved to join family members and seek adventure and new opportunities. The majority of emigrants had as their main reason either land or gold. The most famously travelled trail is the Oregon Trail. This trail is the nation s longest graveyard, killing nearly one tenth of all travelers (Utah State History, 2014). Many wagon and hand cart groups took the rough 2,000 mile trail to go west; one of these groups was the James Reed Party. It is more famously known as the Donner Party. One factor of being safe on and near roadways is to know your surroundings. Guardrail vegetation is a major concern in many states because the guardrails and signs need to be visible at all times, but some vegetation makes the guardrails and signs sightless.
