A New Form of Expansion Essay
A New Form of Expansion
Before the start of the Spanish American War of the late nineteenth century and World War I in the early twentieth century,
the United States had encouraged expansion as being a way of gaining power. For example, the Frontier thesis, conveyed
that it is through the expansion of new lands that humanity would continue to progress. Also the United States portrayed its
impatience to expand through Manifest Destiny: the desire to expand from sea to sea with the goal to own and cultivate as
much land as possible. However, as the late nineteenth and early twentieth century appeared, America experienced a
change. It grew from an ambitious, power seeking country, to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, in John Hay s First and Second Open Door Notes, he promotes the United States necessity for equal trade with
China, which was the U.S main attempt to solve foreign issues, peacefully. Once more, through Senator Albert J.
Beveridge s Speech to 56th Congress, he claims that the Pacific is our ocean….And the Pacific is the ocean of the
commerce of the future…The power that rules the Pacific, therefore, is the power that rules the world (Doc E). Throughout
this time, the theory of the United States dream of Manifest Destiny and its sole desire of expansion supports the idea that
the purpose of expansionism, is for foreign dominance thus, the more land you have, the more power you control.
The United States interfered with foreign affairs whenever necessary to keep order. As shown through the Annual Message
to Congress, Theodore Roosevelt conveys that if it (a nation) keeps order and pays its obligations, it need fear no
interference from the United States (Doc F). The Platt Amendment of 1901 specified the conditions under which the U.S
could intervene in Cuba s internal affairs; stating that Cuba could not make a treaty with another nation that might impair
its independence. Secondly, it was through the approval of the 1898 Treaty of Paris, that the Spanish American War ended

Essay on Jane Austin and Pride Prejudice
Jane Austin is currently known today as one of the women who first developed the ideas related to feminism (Abrams).
Jane s work became prevalent in English literature during time of transition from neo classicism to romanticism (Abrams).
She was influenced by a number of other literary figures of her time, and by the society in which she lived. Her writing
sometimes reflected earlier writers, whom she sometimes mocked because they always portrayed a perfect world in their
writing and the world was not that way. Her writing style was elegant and satirical. In her novels, Jane Austen described
people who were the sorts of people she knew. Many of the character s and events in her stories were real events that were
occurring in her life ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The possibility of scorn was what influenced Austen s decision to publish anonymously (Watkins). It was her favorite
brother was who revealed her identity later (Watkins). The Austin family was accepted socially by wealthier families but
was not as wealthy as these families. This made it hard for their daughters to attract suitors because there was not anything
to be gained by the suitor s family. Jane received a marriage proposal but turned it down because she did not want to
sacrifice her life as an author to juggle being a wife, mother and gentry hostess (Abrams). Jane Austin was one of the first
women in the public eye to say that women did not have to conform to norms that were set by society (Johnson). Jane
made it very clear in her writing that it was unfair for women to marry for class; she mocked this idea in her writings
(Bloom; Johnson). After visiting her brother Edward and his wife Elizabeth, in 1796 Jane began writing pride and
prejudice. Austen wrote Pride Prejudice as a reflection of the times she lived in, the relationship between men and women
and the rules of courting (Bloom). It could even be said that the novels could be related to loneliness that she experienced
because she never married and maybe it was her living out her fantasies through her novels (Bloom). Pride and Prejudice is
a record of upper and middle class English society in a time of

The Importance Of The Various Levels Of Government And...
For this assignment, I will outline the responsibilities of the various levels of government and elected bodies by providing
information of local, national and European government. In my assignment, I will also include some hierarchical diagrams.
Everything we do or decide is influenced by politics. In the UK, there are many different levels of Government that have
an impact on our lives. One of these levels is the European Union. The three main EU Institution are the European
Commission, which promotes the common interest and the current president of the European Commission is Jose Manuel
Barroso; the European Council and the Council, which is the voice of the Members States and the current president of the
European Council is Herman Van Rompuy; the European Parliament that although is not part of the UK levels of
government, it has a significant impact on European Union citizens. The European Parliament, together with the Council,
debates and passes European laws and adopts the EU s budget. The European Parliament has 736 members who represents
all 27 members states of the EU. Its main role is to delegate legislation on issues such as transport, environment, equal
opportunities and movement of workers and goods. In conclusion, the European Parliament is the voice of the people. The
president of the European Parliament is Martin Schutz.

Reflection About Apathy
Students line the patterned red seats in the high school auditorium. While the speaker on stage bellows his gospel of
forgiveness, some students halfheartedly nod along, some stare at their shoes, and some snore. Looking around the chapel
from my seat in the back row, I am overwhelmed with one impression: apathy. This mood that hung in the room was
pervasive, making me feel uncomfortable because I realized that I felt it too. While I usually enjoy learning for its own
sake, apathy has not escaped me. Not only does this mindset manifest in my school s chapel services, but also in the
classroom. When students do not care about learning, they either put in the least amount of effort possible or resort to rote
memorization to maintain their grade. Instead of understanding the material, they glean little knowledge that they can
apply to their lives, making education relatively pointless. This thoughtlessness maddens me because I want to be
purposeful in everything that I do. During my junior year of high school, apathetic students and teachers led me to
rediscover the power I have over my own education. In my physics class, I was miserable: I did not learn I memorized.
Although my teacher had good intentions and a passion for the subject, he taught us terms and formulas, skirting around
fundamentals such as how these concepts connected to each other. Work equals the applied force times change in time
times cosine of the angle. As I sat in my front row seat and

Horace s Adversity
Horace states, Adversity has the effect of eliciting talents which in prosperous circumstances would have lain dormant,
meaning that differences in a person s life, meaning misfortunes as a whole, has the ability to change a person s personality
and character. This can go two separate ways though, it can make them into a better person, or a worse person. But the
overall idea that Horace stated is easy to agree with.
Some people will use a negative part of their life, and do their best to make it into a way to benefit their life. For example,
a youtube sensation has gone viral for a vlog he made when he went to Japan and made a joke about a body he discovered
in the Suicide Forest. He gained so many followers and subscribers after this incident

Facebook’s Non-Compliance with Canadian Privacy Laws
The world of privacy has changed, and Canada s laws need to keep up. Personal information has been called the oil of the
digital economy and as companies drill for more data, the risk to privacy are growing exponentially. After an investigation
conducted in 2009 prompted by a complaint filed from the Canadian Policy and Public Interest Clinic, the Office of the
Privacy Commissioner has concluded that Facebook s current practices of third party applications do not comply with
Canadian Privacy Laws. The Commissioner s concerns include inadequate disclosure to users about what is being
disclosed, lack of consent, and lack of control over personal information with third party developers. With these findings,
the Commissioner has proposed several recommendations for Facebook to take on, however the company has refused to
comply. In this paper I will argue that the Office of Privacy Commission requires stronger enforcement powers in ordering
Facebook to change its third party application practices in order to effectively protect consumers personal information. We
live in a regulatory state. The idea of the regulatory state is that a new institutional and policy style has emerged, in which
governments role as regulator advances while its role as a direct employer or property owner may decline through

Figurative Language In The Masque Of Red Death
Edgar Allan Poe was a famous American writer and literary critic. Poe is best known for his short stories, particularly his
tales of mystery and fear. Poe has a magic and dark way of writing. The Masque of Red Death is one of Poe s most famous
stories. He proficiently used some death symbolism, bloody imagery, and skillful figurative language in order to contribute
to his purpose to inform his reader impossibility to escape from the death no matter who you are. Through using the
deathly symbolism in this story skillfully, Poe alluded to people to the part of life that people have to go through without
the controled by people. First he described seven chambers (seven rooms in the palace), In blue...falling in heavy folds
upon a carpet of the same material and hue ( Poe 43) . Seven rooms were represented to seven parts of life the blue room,
which is located the east, represents birth. The next room is purple, suggests the beginnings of growth. Green, the next
color, suggests the young of life the age of spring , orange is the summer and autumn of life is the age of adult . White, the
next color, suggests age with white hair, and bones of the age of old . Violet is a shadowy color, the color represents people
who were near the death . And the last room, the black room, is death. Otherwise, seven rooms were set up East to West
like the position of the Sun. That means that no matter who you are you have to go through every single part of life and can

The Conservation Of Chimpanzees Is The Idea Of Protecting...
The conservation of Chimpanzees is the idea of protecting this endangered species from going extinct. The ides of
protecting the chimps are motivated by their human like characteristics, and ability to be seen as little people . People want
to save the reflection of themselves because they feel that a piece of our human history will be lost without them.
There isn t a big difference between humans and chimps as we once thought. Humans, chimps and bonobos descended
from a single ancestor species that lived six million years ago. Gradually evolution has evolved them to become three
separate species. Although they come from a common ancestor, their DNA that was passed down from generation to
generation has changed due to adaptations in the gene, environmental factors, reproductive fitness, and mate selection.
Bones and muscle tissue are the same in both species.
The only differentiation is the bipedal and quadrupedal movement. Bipedalism adapted to have shorter arms while for
quadrupedalism the arm length is much longer. The facial features are quite similar. Both have little hairs all over their
body, similar eye shape, ear and mouth structure. Chimps even get bald spots on their head like older men when it comes to
aging. When looking at a chimp it is easy to see the resemblance we share. We enjoy watching these creatures do human
like activities in the media because they look like little people, it s so adorable and entertaining. These chimps can even

Importance Of Extinction Of Plants And Animals
The extinction of plants and animals is a major issue that cannot be ignored by society. Although extinction and decline in
population is a natural occurrence, the rate of population decline and extinction has been highly escalated because of
human acts such as deforestation and overhunting. Researchers and scientists have tried to combat these issues and prevent
extinction through captive breeding programs and conservation education, but are criticised for housing animals in zoos or
even theme parks. These obstacles have made it more difficult to effectively protect endangered animals and educate about
the importance of conservation. Dedicated researchers and zoologists also struggle when studying the behavior and
ecology of these animals because of this criticism. Zoos have not always been classified as public institutes geared to
entertain and educate in a family friendly way. The common zoo that society is familiarized with today first stemmed from
the exotic animal collection of royal families which eventually led to both human entertainment through circuses and
education through modern day animal research programs. Obviously both are very different, but animal research in
captivity, such as zoos, is still criticized. Many present day zoos are still condemned for animal mistreatment similar to that
of circuses, but both have completely dissimilar goals. Today s zoos are held to strict animal standards and are also highly
regarded for the work they do to conserve

Campaign Finance Regulations
Campaign finance regulations have the potential to stifle free speech and impede the election process created for fair and
efficient elections. These laws, which limit political spending, serves to limit speech by restricting the average citizen s
ability to both receive and deliver political messages. Laws that restrict spending on political campaigns not only dampen
freedoms of speech but but have a counter affect on our democratic society. Regardless of which political side of the fence
you are on, these laws work more to extend the problem they purport to fix. Allowing more contributions simply permits
more people to participate in the
system thus diffusing influence, rather than concentrating it among the large corporations
and unions. Campaignfinance reform, then, actually undermines the effort to
promote equal access to the political arena.
This slippery slope started a long time ago, essentially at the founding of our republic. James Madison knew that men, by
their nature, were not angels. Madison s approach was rather than limit the factions that naturally exist in a free society, but
rather to control their ill effects. The society itself will be broken into so many parts, interests and classes of citizens that
the rights of individuals, or of the minority, will be in little danger . In other words, the idea was not to limit our many
factions but to allow them to divide and limit the power of government itself so their many interests could not

The House Of Lords Outlook Regarding The Doctrine Of...
The House of Lords outlook concerning the doctrine of precedent is reflected in Lord Woolf s statement in the case of R v
Simpson [2003] . The excerpt brings up the practice of the courts, and how the rules of precedent had to be applied bearing
in mind that their objective was to assist in the administration of justice , as well as precedential certainty and flexibility.
The dicta used in his lengthy statement leaves space for discussion, such as; the precedent assisting the administration of
justice, the appropriate degree of certainty that precedent carries. There is also room for examination as to just how far
flexibility in precedent serves a positive purpose to meet contemporary needs.
The first point of discussion stems from the objective of precedent to assist in the administration of justice . Being a key
component of the common law legal system, precedent is based on stare decisis, which is Latin for to stand by things
decided , and is the first rule of precedent . It refers to policy of the court to abide by rulings set by decisions made in
previous cases. This involves the ratio decidendi, which is the basis of binding precedent because it stands as the reasoning
behind a ruling. Without this, the doctrine of precedent would be unable to operate. Parts of the judgment that do not form
the ratio are referred to as obiter dicta, and are merely persuasive precedent. The second rule of precedent is in relation to
court hierarchy . An integral part of the

removal, as opposed to decimation, is customary because of the integral role these insects play in ensuring that plant foods

Classical Liberalism And The Enlightenment
Paper #1: Classical Liberalism
Classical liberalism is the transition from focusing on government to focusing on the rights of individuals. This transition
came about during the time of the Enlightenment in the eighteenth century. The Enlightenment period was when man
started to have more faith in his own reasoning. People began to look for evidence on their beliefs themselves and to find
proof on these beliefs, so that they could come up with their own opinions on things. One way that they did this was by
going back and rereading Roman and Greek texts and retranslating these texts. This new way of thinking also caused the
Protestant Reformation to occur. Some of the most influential Enlightenment writers were John Locke, Thomas Paine,
Thomas Jefferson, and the people of France s National Constituent Assembly. John Locke was one of the most influential
writers during the Enlightenment period, and was the first Enlightenment Thinker . Locke is the author of the Two
Treatises and believed that every person was born with natural rights such as: life, liberty, and property (Locke). These
rights were meant for everyone, and not just the nobility or wealthy. Locke uses references from the Bible throughout the
Two Treatises stating that God created man without any state of inferiority (Locke). This disproves the idea of Divine
Right given from God that many countries in Europe had been participating in. John Locke also discussed the importance

Grendel Vs Beowulf
The story of Beowulf has been told for centuries all over Europe. However, there is one problem with recreating the story
and making it into a movie; each movie has a different plot line, theme, or character back story. The differences in the
movies may or may not have a large effect on the overall story, but it does show how much stories can change just by the
person that is telling the story.
For instance, in the first movie we watched, Beowulf 2005, Grendel was a troll whose mother was a sea beast and his
father was a troll. In Beowulf 2005, Grendel spoke using a series of grunting noises and spoke very little English. In the
second movie Beowulf 2007, Grendel was a monster whose mother was a sea beast, but his father was King Hrothgar. This
time Grendel communicated by speaking in old English. These differences are very minuscule, but they had a large impact

that the average child will have witnessed 8,000 murders and over 100,000 different acts of
violence by the time he or she will have completed the 5th grade. It was also determined that a

Big Two Hearted River Hemmingway Analysis
In the story Big Two Hearted River Hemmingway explains how coming back from the war is almost like a pause in your
life. You have death inside you because you ve experienced so many horrible things in war. Hemmingway uses his main
character, Nick to show how he moved on from coming back from war. Nick came back home to a burnt town, and nothing
but the wilderness.
Coming back from war is dramatic. War causes PTSD. PTSD is a disease which causes you to freak out and be anxious a
lot because of what you ve seen in the past. The train went on up the track out of sight, around one of the hills of burnt
timber (77) The word to emphasize on is burnt. If you look further into the word it ll take you into nicks world. When Nick
came home there was almost a part of death inside him, dragging him on. He went through some much. In the swamp the
banks were bare, the big cedars came together overhead, the sun did not come through, except in patches; in the fast deep
water, in the half light, the fishing would be tragic. (198) Thinking about going to the swamp is like thinking about war. He
tries so hard to not go to the swamp, because it made him think about his awful times. He s lonely in the woods but it s a
good type of lonely. His brain is foggy. Stepping off that train step brought him ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

IRAQ WAR A DISASTER 2
Was the Iraq War a Disaster? From 1979 to 2003 Saddam Hussein ruled Iraq in a brutal dictatorship. The first action taken
against Hussein s regime began in 1990 when Iraq invaded and annexed Kuwait. In a coalition led by the United States,
Great Britain, and Saudi Arabia, Saddam Hussein was defeated. From that point the United Nations imposed many
sanctions upon Iraq. In 2003 President George W. Bush and the United States asked the United Nations Security Council to

The Iraq War has damaged the economy in several ways. One way is by decreasing the value of United States currency. In
one year the U.S. dollar lost over 30% of its value against the Euro. The price of crude oil also reached record highs of $90
per barrell during the Iraq War. This led to an increWhen the United States first went to war President Bush thought it was
a good idea to cut taxes. ...this was the first time in American history that a president took us into a war and cut taxes
(Farley, 2009, p. 1). Typically, taxes rise during times of war to help compensate for the cost of fighting. With lowered tax
rates prior to and during the Iraq War the United States was put in a difficult predicament. We were required to borrow
large sums of money from other countries to finance the war. This is a large part of why we are struggling with a national
debt issue today. As of today the United States has accumulated over $18 trillion in national debt. Of that $18 trillion, one
third can be attributed to the Iraq War. The amount of money we owe to other countries isn t shrinking either. Our debt has
increased by an average of $3.25 billion since 2012. If the amount we owe was divided amongst every taxpaying citizen in
the United States each person would have to pay roughly $58,400 to compensate for the amount we owe. The total cost of
the Iraq War was over $3 trillion. This $3 trillion could have been used to boost the United States economy, finance the
ongoing War on Terror in Afghanistan, or be held as savings for future

Similarities Between Lewis And Clark
Meriwether Lewis was an American explorer, who with William Clark led the expedition through the unchartered
Louisiana Territory. The article Lewis and Clark: Into the Unknown tells the story of Lewis and Clark s journey: how they
survived the harsh weather and what they discovered. Lewis and Clark: Revisited tells how a modern group of adventures
reenacted Lewis and Clark s escapade. There were many similarities in the reenactors and Lewis and Clark s trek. For
example, both the Corps of Discovery and the reenactors encountered Native Americans, some friendly and helpful, others
not as cooperative. Despite these similarities, there are multiple differences in the adventurers expeditions, such as the food
they ate and the equipment they used. The reenactors used a boat with an attached motor, while Meriwether Lewis used a
keelboat to explore. The ways that the Corps of Discovery explored can be compared and contrasted to the ways that the
reenactors of the Discovery Expedition journeyed. From clothing to encounters, there are multiple similarities in the
reenactors and Lewis and Clark s journey. For instance, both expeditions had help from Native Americans. In Lewis and ...

Research Paper On Cadillac
The name Cadillac is well known all over the world because of the Detroit based General Motors division manufactured
Cadillac car. Few know however that it comes from the name of the French founder of Detroit, Antoine Laumet de La
Mothe, sieur de Cadillac, a name that makes reference to the little French town of Cadillac situated in the heart of the
Bordeaux wine region. Historically Cadillac is a bastide founded in 1280 by the Edward I, King of England for the defense
of Bordeaux. In 1315 the bastide surrounds itself with a defensive wall form which we still can see 2 gates, 3 towers and
almost the entire rampart. The most important historic monument of the town is the Cadillac Castle . The castle was built

Garrison Keillor s The Prodigal Son vs. Luke s The Parable of the Prodigal Son
The classic story of the Prodigal Son is one of the best known parables in literature. A parable is often times described as a
short narrative which teaches a moral; however, the plot is more realistic, than say a fable, and the characters are humans
as oppose to animals or natural forces within nature. Parables are also presented in a more suggestive tone, which leaves
them more open to interpretation. The play Prodigal Son told by Garrison Keillor differs greatly in terms of style compared
to Lukes The Parable of the Prodigal Son told in the Catholic scriptures. Both of these parables convey the same moral,
however, both are open to very different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This style merely added to the parable itself. One could argue that since the personalities in Keillors version were more
developed, it left less room for ones own interpretation. Because the personalities of the characters were more distinct, it
also alllwed for more focus on the actual plot and the building moral. Since the moral is the true point to a parable, it
would be pointless for an audience or reader to be stuck on the their curiosity of the type of people the characters were
supposed to represent. More detail, merely aids in the strength of a parables narrative qualities. A major difference that I
noted when reading and comparing the two parables was the usage of language. That writing style of the parables truly
affected my interpretation of the moral. Keillor took a much more modern approach to the language that the characters
conversed with. He also utilized more symbolism in the language in order to pursue more of a comedy type piece. An
example of such is when Wally returnas home and his father is ecstatic about his return, and begins to give him gifts and
attention. The father then decides amongst all his excitement that he wants to give Wally a ring, which he had already
given to the older son Dwight. Dwight responds with, cant give it to the son who has worked his tail off for thirty years, oh
no, gotta give it to the weasel who comes dragging his butt through the door (Kennedy 1366). This language varies greatly

Employee Engagement From A Human Capital Management
A discussion about employee engagement from a human capital management perspective would not be complete without
some reference to compensation. Employees must consider their compensation to be fair and competitive. Otherwise,
employees will either not be motivated to exert the discretionary efforts put forth by more highly engaged employees or
worse still; they will leave the organization (Bersin, Becoming Irresistible, 2015). Therefore, organizations must pay
attention to the area of compensation management first and foremost before tackling other areas of human capital
management. However, compensation can also be used as a tool in improving specific areas to influence engagement
positively. For example, reward programs should incentivize managers to coach and mentor high potential talent or
compensation could also be linked to engagement levels at the departmental level.
The Human Capital Management classes and specifically my deeper drive into the topic employee engagement is very
timely for the organization that I lead. As a small medical practice with limited resources, conducting employee
engagement survey s is normally beyond the reach of our budget. However, we recently took part in a free survey launched
by the local business journal to identify the best places to work in the local community. This survey, conducted by
Quantum Workplace, was primarily a measure of the employee engagement level within our company. While it was very
encouraging to see that our

Time spent with the San Francisco 49 ERS.
Getting to meet and spend time with a famous person is one of my goals and dreams. In order for it to be my dream and
goal, it has to be time spent with the San Francisco 49 ERS. This amazing group of athletes has been my team since day
one. I have seen them fall and I have seen them rise. I have many meaningful reasons on why they are my favorite team
and why I would want to spend a day with them; watching Niner football games with my grandpa, getting to go a game,
and my life revolves around football and why it s such a great sport.
Football started at a early stage for me, my grandpa was a huge fan of the San Francisco 49 ERS. Ever since I was little I

To be in their Levis Stadium, see the players, get autographs, see their museum, and see their locker room seemed like a
fairy tale to me, it was so unreal that this was actually happening. My mom, step dad, and I flew to California for the game,
we were there for about a week. We showed up at Levis Stadium at ten in the morning, kickoff was at one twenty five. We
got passes to get into the stadium earlier before everyone else, once I got into the stadium I saw the players warming up
and I was screaming as loud as I could to get the quarterbacks attention, Colin Kaepernick. When he saw me waving,
jumping, and yelling he smiled at me and waved! I was for sure the luckiest girl alive that day; he even signed my jersey
and the helmet that I was wearing. Watching the game was so electric and full of excitement through the crowds of fans.
This game was definitely one to remember and ending the day with a win made it even better. In just one day, everything

Although they are beautiful, the women lack intelligence and charm. Their obsession with beauty has led to atrophy of
their mental faculties. As Plath describes the cruelty of the fashion industry, she represents a sinister force which seeks to
destroy to no end. Plath s imagery further delves into the revolting nature of beauty. In the town, the yew trees blow like
hydras (ln 3). This touches on the theme of rebirth and life. As the yew tree waits for spring, it is like a hydra preparing to
grow a new head. This continues as Plath describes the menstrual cycle within the next two stanzas. Women release their
moons... month after month and it is a blood flood,... the flood of love. However, these cycles are of no purpose (ln 5 6).
After starving for perfection, the mannequins cannot have children and have lost an intrinsic part of themselves. The
imagery of the moons further highlights the depiction of a menstrual cycle as it has often been associated with the cycles of
the moon. A vital part of childbearing, the blood is a force of love that conveys fertility. The women have given up this
ability in order to achieve an unnatural appearance. The speaker finds this repulsive, describing them as naked and bald in
their furs (ln 13). Although they possess outward beauty, their insides are ugly. The models are forced to contain their
empty, unnatural personalities in a glamour that does not belong to them. The

Romeo And Juliet Film Analysis
Baz Luhrmann s 1996 Romeo and Juliet plays with the genre of Shakespearean tragedy as much as it plays with it s chosen
medium, film. It draws from it s Elizabethan language and also plays with the conventions of postmodernism, melding in
aspects of popular 90 s film, like crime and mob movies. Luhrmann s use of intensified continuity, motifs, and exciting
editing styles all serve to show you Shakespeare s poetics rather than recite the poetry to you. However, that is not to say
that Luhrmann entirely leaves the text behind in his film. His overtly clever imagery and word play creates a world that is
detailed, textured and intertextual. The level of detail in his world indicates that a certain level of fantastical realism
remains in this film, but every aspect of that detail exists to serve the poetry and the understanding and entertainment of the
audience. There is never a detail that is too realist to the point of redundancy, it s all innately clever. Luhrmann is in every
sense of the term, a film poet. Baz Luhrmann s use of the filmic mode is made glaringly clear from the prologue sequence.
The entire thing revels in the convention of film. He draws attention to his playfulness with film convention in having one
of the very first image of his film of a tv screen. The introductory monologue: Two households, both alike in dignity/ (In
fair Verona, where we lay our scene)... (1.1.1 2), turns into a mediatization of the events of Romeo and Juliet rather than a

The Process Of Sol-Gel Processing
Sol gel processing is prevented by nanomakes particles which causes pores surface with controlled pore size ranging from
few nanometers to tens of nanometers to allow biomolecules loading. The dynamic light scattering (DLS) particle size
analyzer (Malvern Instruments, Malvern, UK) will be used for size characterization, polydispersity index (PDI), and the
zeta potential of SHMNCs. In addition, SHMNCs can be visualized by scanning electron micrograph (SEM) method (Fig.

Synthesize of SHMNCs is illustrated in (Fig. 9): 1. Mixing of positively charged amine functionalized polystyrene beads

Hence, different size of SHMNCs need to be fabricated (Table 2). The pores size on the surface of SHMNCs are
controllable by choosing different nanomasks diameter. The size of each pore will be approximately around 25 35% of
nanomask diameter. For instance, using 100, 60 and 40 nm nanomasks diameter, result mesoporous of 30±4, 20±3 and
12±2 nm in diameter, respectively [23]. The pore size should not be smaller than the maximum length of enzyme which
needs to be loaded in SHMNCs. Here, since the maximum size of enzyme is 12.2 nm (CaMKII), the pores size cannot be
less than 12 nm. Therefore, the 40 nm nanomask is the smallest nanomask that will be applied to create SHMNCs.

Hitler Vs Mussolini
Another significant factor of the similarities that these two leaders shared was their desire of absolute power. After the
collapse of the democratic parliament which was soon replaced by Hitler and Mussolini s dictatorships, both leaders
thought that once gained power, the parties which helped them obtain such power would not have taken control of it and
especially that they would not have surrendered to their own parties. They were determined that the power was only theirs
and one way of showing it was by expanding their territories throughout foreign countries. In 1930 Mussolini started
growing his power in North Africa, in the Balkan peninsula and throughout the Mediterranean occupying places such as
Greece, Malta, Nice and Tunisia. While ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He had the idea that women s only job was to have kids, cook and be dedicated to religion. For instance, he defined women
as Kinder, Küche and Kirche which means Children, Kitchen and Church.Moving on to the differences between the two
political parties, it is important to highlight the fact that many of Hitler s principles were not comparable to Mussolini s
ones. The biggest difference between them is the fact that most Italian fascists were against racism and against Hitler s anti
Semitist ideologies. Their main concentration was towards the supremacy of the State, while the Nazi s one was the race.
The Aryans, from Hitler s point of view, represented the highest form of human race. Whereas Jews, Africans and people
who had different human identities such as homosexuals and the handicap were identified as a threat and as a dark and
powerful human kind. Hitler thought that the only way to dominate and destroy these races was through the strength of the
three myths. The first one known as the Reich regarded the Aryan race, the second myth identified as the Volk indicated
people of different social classes and the last one called Fuhrer was a nickname given to the leader of the Germans, seen as
the most powerful and undiscussed person of the country. On the 25th of October 1935 after the Nuremberg law, Jews were

the play that it became obvious that Meg and Calvin changed their opinions of each other. Meg, and Calvin began to fall in

Jane Eyre Character Analysis
Do changing circumstances truly alter a person s character? Throughout the book, Jane Eyre, many people take up
residence in the life of young, plain Jane Eyre. As the circumstances of the book unfold, Jane comes across hypocrites,
servants, people of worldly nature, people of pride, and even people of insanity. They all influence her life in different
ways and their decisions, alongside hers, change the circumstances in her life. In the end, Jane s character is drastically
transformed by each of the circumstances she encounters. In contrast, Jane s master, Mr. Rochester, a proud and selfish
man, confronts trials and impeding circumstances, yet his character does not alter until almost everything in his possession
is taken from him.
As a young child, Jane lives with her rude, arrogant Aunt Reed. Aunt Reed allows Jane to stay in her home out of a sense
of duty to her husband s request. Jane perseveres through immense mistreatment from her cousins and aunt. As Jane
laments, ..you treated me with miserable cruelty..You think I have no feelings, and that I can do without one bit of love or
kindness; but I cannot live so: and you have no pity. (p.35, Bronte) Out of her aunt s despise for her, she sends Jane to
Lowood School, a place of strict regulations, poor conditions, and warped theology. Throughout Jane s time under her aunt
s household and her initial entrance into the school, her conduct and attitude remains defensive, stubborn, and selfish. She

many, parents or celebrities are this individual. Some children even choose athletes such as NBA players. One of the most
influential people in the basketball world during the time was Magic Johnson. Earvin Magic Johnson was a 6 9 point guard
in the National Basketball Association. With his height and exceptional ball handling skills for his size, he took the NBA

Magic changed how the NBA worked by breaking the barrier of bigger players playing at point guard which is mostly for
smaller players. Magic also worked hard and stayed determined whether it was at basketball or school. Magic defied all
expectations after being drafted as a first round pick and after his announcement about HIV, he has been a positive public
figure for them for years. However, his affairs with other men during his basketball career, which was his presumed cause
of HIV, put many question marks on his overall character. Magic Johnson sets an example for people and children today.
Despite all of his hardships in life, he did not give up. Given how easy losing hope is, Magic s character has stayed with
him. Even after getting the announcement that his career is over, he still powers though all the negatives in life and even
came back to the NBA for a period. Magic Johnson did not only set an example of how kids in modern time should
practice and play basketball, he also set an example for kids by his built character and his determination and work

  • 2. A New Form of Expansion Essay A New Form of Expansion Before the start of the Spanish American War of the late nineteenth century and World War I in the early twentieth century, the United States had encouraged expansion as being a way of gaining power. For example, the Frontier thesis, conveyed that it is through the expansion of new lands that humanity would continue to progress. Also the United States portrayed its impatience to expand through Manifest Destiny: the desire to expand from sea to sea with the goal to own and cultivate as much land as possible. However, as the late nineteenth and early twentieth century appeared, America experienced a change. It grew from an ambitious, power seeking country, to the ... Also, in John Hay s First and Second Open Door Notes, he promotes the United States necessity for equal trade with China, which was the U.S main attempt to solve foreign issues, peacefully. Once more, through Senator Albert J. Beveridge s Speech to 56th Congress, he claims that the Pacific is our ocean….And the Pacific is the ocean of the commerce of the future…The power that rules the Pacific, therefore, is the power that rules the world (Doc E). Throughout this time, the theory of the United States dream of Manifest Destiny and its sole desire of expansion supports the idea that the purpose of expansionism, is for foreign dominance thus, the more land you have, the more power you control. The United States interfered with foreign affairs whenever necessary to keep order. As shown through the Annual Message to Congress, Theodore Roosevelt conveys that if it (a nation) keeps order and pays its obligations, it need fear no interference from the United States (Doc F). The Platt Amendment of 1901 specified the conditions under which the U.S could intervene in Cuba s internal affairs; stating that Cuba could not make a treaty with another nation that might impair its independence. Secondly, it was through the approval of the 1898 Treaty of Paris, that the Spanish American War ended and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Jane s work became prevalent in English literature during time of transition from neo classicism to romanticism (Abrams). She was influenced by a number of other literary figures of her time, and by the society in which she lived. Her writing sometimes reflected earlier writers, whom she sometimes mocked because they always portrayed a perfect world in their writing and the world was not that way. The possibility of scorn was what influenced Austen s decision to publish anonymously (Watkins). It was her favorite brother was who revealed her identity later (Watkins). The Austin family was accepted socially by wealthier families but was not as wealthy as these families. This made it hard for their daughters to attract suitors because there was not anything to be gained by the suitor s family. Jane received a marriage proposal but turned it down because she did not want to sacrifice her life as an author to juggle being a wife, mother and gentry hostess (Abrams). Jane Austin was one of the first women in the public eye to say that women did not have to conform to norms that were set by society (Johnson). Jane made it very clear in her writing that it was unfair for women to marry for class; she mocked this idea in her writings (Bloom; Johnson). After visiting her brother Edward and his wife Elizabeth, in 1796 Jane began writing pride and prejudice. Austen wrote Pride Prejudice as a reflection of the times she lived in, the relationship between men and women and the rules of courting (Bloom). It could even be said that the novels could be related to loneliness that she experienced because she never married and maybe it was her living out her fantasies through her novels (Bloom). • 6. Reflection About Apathy Students line the patterned red seats in the high school auditorium. While the speaker on stage bellows his gospel of forgiveness, some students halfheartedly nod along, some stare at their shoes, and some snore. Looking around the chapel from my seat in the back row, I am overwhelmed with one impression: apathy. This mood that hung in the room was pervasive, making me feel uncomfortable because I realized that I felt it too. While I usually enjoy learning for its own sake, apathy has not escaped me. Not only does this mindset manifest in my school s chapel services, but also in the classroom. When students do not care about learning, they either put in the least amount of effort possible or resort to rote memorization to maintain their grade. Instead of understanding the material, they glean little knowledge that they can apply to their lives, making education relatively pointless. This thoughtlessness maddens me because I want to be purposeful in everything that I do. During my junior year of high school, apathetic students and teachers led me to rediscover the power I have over my own education. In my physics class, I was miserable: I did not learn I memorized. Although my teacher had good intentions and a passion for the subject, he taught us terms and formulas, skirting around fundamentals such as how these concepts connected to each other. Horace s Adversity Horace states, Adversity has the effect of eliciting talents which in prosperous circumstances would have lain dormant, meaning that differences in a person s life, meaning misfortunes as a whole, has the ability to change a person s personality and character. This can go two separate ways though, it can make them into a better person, or a worse person. But the overall idea that Horace stated is easy to agree with. Some people will use a negative part of their life, and do their best to make it into a way to benefit their life. • 10. Facebook’s Non-Compliance with Canadian Privacy Laws The world of privacy has changed, and Canada s laws need to keep up. Personal information has been called the oil of the digital economy and as companies drill for more data, the risk to privacy are growing exponentially. After an investigation conducted in 2009 prompted by a complaint filed from the Canadian Policy and Public Interest Clinic, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner has concluded that Facebook s current practices of third party applications do not comply with Canadian Privacy Laws. The Commissioner s concerns include inadequate disclosure to users about what is being disclosed, lack of consent, and lack of control over personal information with third party developers. With these findings, the Commissioner has proposed several recommendations for Facebook to take on, however the company has refused to comply. In this paper I will argue that the Office of Privacy Commission requires stronger enforcement powers in ordering Facebook to change its third party application practices in order to effectively protect consumers personal information. We live in a regulatory state. The idea of the regulatory state is that a new institutional and policy style has emerged, in which governments role as regulator advances while its role as a direct employer or property owner may decline through privatization Consumers are currently protected under the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act dealing with the personal information under the private ... He proficiently used some death symbolism, bloody imagery, and skillful figurative language in order to contribute to his purpose to inform his reader impossibility to escape from the death no matter who you are. Through using the deathly symbolism in this story skillfully, Poe alluded to people to the part of life that people have to go through without the controled by people. First he described seven chambers (seven rooms in the palace), In blue...falling in heavy folds upon a carpet of the same material and hue ( Poe 43) . Seven rooms were represented to seven parts of life the blue room, which is located the east, represents birth. The next room is purple, suggests the beginnings of growth. Green, the next color, suggests the young of life the age of spring , orange is the summer and autumn of life is the age of adult . White, the next color, suggests age with white hair, and bones of the age of old . Violet is a shadowy color, the color represents people who were near the death . The ides of protecting the chimps are motivated by their human like characteristics, and ability to be seen as little people . People want to save the reflection of themselves because they feel that a piece of our human history will be lost without them. There isn t a big difference between humans and chimps as we once thought. Humans, chimps and bonobos descended from a single ancestor species that lived six million years ago. Gradually evolution has evolved them to become three separate species. Although they come from a common ancestor, their DNA that was passed down from generation to generation has changed due to adaptations in the gene, environmental factors, reproductive fitness, and mate selection. Bones and muscle tissue are the same in both species. The only differentiation is the bipedal and quadrupedal movement. Bipedalism adapted to have shorter arms while for quadrupedalism the arm length is much longer. The facial features are quite similar. Both have little hairs all over their body, similar eye shape, ear and mouth structure. Chimps even get bald spots on their head like older men when it comes to aging. When looking at a chimp it is easy to see the resemblance we share. We enjoy watching these creatures do human like activities in the media because they look like little people, it s so adorable and entertaining. These chimps can even function in ... • 13. Importance Of Extinction Of Plants And Animals The extinction of plants and animals is a major issue that cannot be ignored by society. Although extinction and decline in population is a natural occurrence, the rate of population decline and extinction has been highly escalated because of human acts such as deforestation and overhunting. Researchers and scientists have tried to combat these issues and prevent extinction through captive breeding programs and conservation education, but are criticised for housing animals in zoos or even theme parks. These obstacles have made it more difficult to effectively protect endangered animals and educate about the importance of conservation. Dedicated researchers and zoologists also struggle when studying the behavior and ecology of these animals because of this criticism. Zoos have not always been classified as public institutes geared to entertain and educate in a family friendly way. The common zoo that society is familiarized with today first stemmed from the exotic animal collection of royal families which eventually led to both human entertainment through circuses and education through modern day animal research programs. Obviously both are very different, but animal research in captivity, such as zoos, is still criticized. Many present day zoos are still condemned for animal mistreatment similar to that of circuses, but both have completely dissimilar goals. Today s zoos are held to strict animal standards and are also highly regarded for the work they do to conserve ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Campaign Finance Regulations Campaign finance regulations have the potential to stifle free speech and impede the election process created for fair and efficient elections. These laws, which limit political spending, serves to limit speech by restricting the average citizen s ability to both receive and deliver political messages. Laws that restrict spending on political campaigns not only dampen freedoms of speech but but have a counter affect on our democratic society. Regardless of which political side of the fence you are on, these laws work more to extend the problem they purport to fix. Allowing more contributions simply permits more people to participate in the system thus diffusing influence, rather than concentrating it among the large corporations and unions. Campaignfinance reform, then, actually undermines the effort to promote equal access to the political arena. This slippery slope started a long time ago, essentially at the founding of our republic. James Madison knew that men, by their nature, were not angels. Madison s approach was rather than limit the factions that naturally exist in a free society, but rather to control their ill effects. The society itself will be broken into so many parts, interests and classes of citizens that the rights of individuals, or of the minority, will be in little danger . In other words, the idea was not to limit our many factions but to allow them to divide and limit the power of government itself so their many interests could not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. The House Of Lords Outlook Regarding The Doctrine Of... The House of Lords outlook concerning the doctrine of precedent is reflected in Lord Woolf s statement in the case of R v Simpson [2003] . The excerpt brings up the practice of the courts, and how the rules of precedent had to be applied bearing in mind that their objective was to assist in the administration of justice , as well as precedential certainty and flexibility. The dicta used in his lengthy statement leaves space for discussion, such as; the precedent assisting the administration of justice, the appropriate degree of certainty that precedent carries. There is also room for examination as to just how far flexibility in precedent serves a positive purpose to meet contemporary needs. The first point of discussion stems from the objective of precedent to assist in the administration of justice . Being a key component of the common law legal system, precedent is based on stare decisis, which is Latin for to stand by things decided , and is the first rule of precedent . It refers to policy of the court to abide by rulings set by decisions made in previous cases. This involves the ratio decidendi, which is the basis of binding precedent because it stands as the reasoning behind a ruling. Without this, the doctrine of precedent would be unable to operate. Parts of the judgment that do not form the ratio are referred to as obiter dicta, and are merely persuasive precedent. The second rule of precedent is in relation to court hierarchy . • 17. Classical Liberalism And The Enlightenment Paper #1: Classical Liberalism Classical liberalism is the transition from focusing on government to focusing on the rights of individuals. This transition came about during the time of the Enlightenment in the eighteenth century. The Enlightenment period was when man started to have more faith in his own reasoning. People began to look for evidence on their beliefs themselves and to find proof on these beliefs, so that they could come up with their own opinions on things. One way that they did this was by going back and rereading Roman and Greek texts and retranslating these texts. This new way of thinking also caused the Protestant Reformation to occur. Some of the most influential Enlightenment writers were John Locke, Thomas Paine, Thomas Jefferson, and the people of France s National Constituent Assembly. John Locke was one of the most influential writers during the Enlightenment period, and was the first Enlightenment Thinker . Locke is the author of the Two Treatises and believed that every person was born with natural rights such as: life, liberty, and property (Locke). These rights were meant for everyone, and not just the nobility or wealthy. Locke uses references from the Bible throughout the Two Treatises stating that God created man without any state of inferiority (Locke). This disproves the idea of Divine Right given from God that many countries in Europe had been participating in. John Locke also discussed the importance of The Beginning of ... Parables are also presented in a more suggestive tone, which leaves them more open to interpretation. Since the moral is the true point to a parable, it would be pointless for an audience or reader to be stuck on the their curiosity of the type of people the characters were supposed to represent. More detail, merely aids in the strength of a parables narrative qualities. A major difference that I noted when reading and comparing the two parables was the usage of language. Employee Engagement From A Human Capital Management A discussion about employee engagement from a human capital management perspective would not be complete without some reference to compensation. Employees must consider their compensation to be fair and competitive. Otherwise, employees will either not be motivated to exert the discretionary efforts put forth by more highly engaged employees or worse still; they will leave the organization (Bersin, Becoming Irresistible, 2015). Therefore, organizations must pay attention to the area of compensation management first and foremost before tackling other areas of human capital management. However, compensation can also be used as a tool in improving specific areas to influence engagement positively. For example, reward programs should incentivize managers to coach and mentor high potential talent or compensation could also be linked to engagement levels at the departmental level. For instance, using 100, 60 and 40 nm nanomasks diameter, result mesoporous of 30±4, 20±3 and 12±2 nm in diameter, respectively [23]. The pore size should not be smaller than the maximum length of enzyme which needs to be loaded in SHMNCs. Here, since the maximum size of enzyme is 12.2 nm (CaMKII), the pores size cannot be less than 12 nm. Therefore, the 40 nm nanomask is the smallest nanomask that will be applied to create SHMNCs. Table 2: Various sizes of SHMNCs with different pore sizes and numbers SHMNC name Interior template size Nanomask size # Pores SHMNC 500/100/25 500 nm 100 nm 25 SHMNC 500/100/15 500 nm 100 nm 15 SHMNC 500/60/25 500 nm 60 nm 25 SHMNC 500/60/15 500 nm 60 nm 15 SHMNC 200/60/25 200 nm 60 nm 20 SHMNC 200/60/10 200 nm 60 nm 10 SHMNC 100/40/10 100 nm 40 nm 10 SHMNC 100/40/5 100 nm 40 nm 5 After SHMNC sol gel processing followed by calcination, due to partial dehydration of silica gel hydroxyl group, the final diameter of SHMNCs will be around 85 90% of templates size [60]. • 35. Hitler Vs Mussolini Another significant factor of the similarities that these two leaders shared was their desire of absolute power. After the collapse of the democratic parliament which was soon replaced by Hitler and Mussolini s dictatorships, both leaders thought that once gained power, the parties which helped them obtain such power would not have taken control of it and especially that they would not have surrendered to their own parties. For instance, he defined women as Kinder, Küche and Kirche which means Children, Kitchen and Church.Moving on to the differences between the two political parties, it is important to highlight the fact that many of Hitler s principles were not comparable to Mussolini s ones. The biggest difference between them is the fact that most Italian fascists were against racism and against Hitler s anti Semitist ideologies. Their main concentration was towards the supremacy of the State, while the Nazi s one was the race. The Aryans, from Hitler s point of view, represented the highest form of human race. Whereas Jews, Africans and people who had different human identities such as homosexuals and the handicap were identified as a threat and as a dark and powerful human kind. Hitler thought that the only way to dominate and destroy these races was through the strength of the three myths. The first one known as the Reich regarded the Aryan race, the second myth identified as the Volk indicated people of different social classes and the last one called Fuhrer was a nickname given to the leader of the Germans, seen as the most powerful and undiscussed person of the country.
