Winter Wheat Research Paper
Stichler and Livingston (1999) previously stated that a major advantage of winter wheat compared
with other small grain species that could be grown for winter forage production is its excellent
tolerance to abiotic stresses including cold and drought. In addition, wheat forage has relatively high
nutritive values including high protein, energy values, minerals, and low fiber concentrations,
compared with barley (Hordeum vulgare L.), oat (Avena sativa L.), and rye (Secale cereale L.)
forages. Generally, forage yield of winter wheat from late November to early March is more consistent
and productive than that of the other species (Denman and Arnold, 1970; Watson et al., 1993). Bockus
et al. (2001) and Watson et al. (1993) mentioned that susceptibility of winter wheat to Hessian fly
[Mayetiola destructor (Say)], leaf rust (incited by Puccinia triticina), and several virus diseases could
be obstacles for successful winter forage production, especially in early planted regions. ... Show more

Prasad and Power (1997) and Sparks (2003) reported that soil acidity caused by the nitrification
process, organic matter decomposition, and acid rain has been a major limitation for winter forage
production in the southern Great Plains. Therefore, development of winter wheat varieties tolerant to
acidic soil and high Al concentration is one of important goals for the winter wheat breeding
programs, especially in the southern Great Plains (Johnson et al.,

Starbucks’ Strategy
What are some of the decision factors that Starbucks assess?
Starbucks strategy for expanding its retail business is to increase its market share in existing markets
and to open stores in new markets where the opportunity exists to become the leading specialty coffee
retailer. In support of this strategy, the Company opened 647 new stores during the fiscal year end in
September of 2001. At fiscal year end, Starbucks had 2,971 Company operated stores in 38 states, the
District of Columbia and five Canadian provinces (which comprise the Company operated North
American retail operations), as well as 252 stores in the United Kingdom, 25 stores in Thailand and 18

Second, consultants said that no Chinese would ever lose face by drinking from a cup in the street
since the Chinese preferred not to eat or drink in public. Starbucks no smoking policy came out of its
desire for nothing cologne, perfume, nor tobacco smoke to interfere with the smell of their dark
roasted beans. Upon entering Asia, Starbucks stuck with its no smoking policy, which according to
interviews turns out to be a welcomed policy. Even the smokers claimed not to have a problem with
smoking outside.
Although the Chinese dislike drinking in public, the high awareness of the brand and the Chinese
market being so brand driven outweighs this habit. The Chinese consumers perceived the high prices
as conveying quality and sophistication. Retailers keep this in mind as they charge more for public
consumption, as customers go to Starbucks if not for the coffee, but to present themselves as modern
Chinese in a public setting. China s tightly regulated business environment still throws up lots of
hurdles for Starbucks. Its fragmented government and currency conversion limits make banking
difficult. If I want to move money out of China, it s a hellish process, says Charles Jemley, Starbucks
vice president of finance in China. Book bags and coffee mugs barely made it out of customs in time
for Starbucks to pass them out at a rural teacher training session

Color Blindness
Method
Participants
Psychology college students attending the University of California, Los Angeles were asked to
complete this experiment as a course requirement. The sample size was twenty one students. When
conducting the experiment, we did not ask if the students had any disabilities such as color blindness
or blindness. Every student just went through with the experiment without any questions being asked.
All participants were asked to be the experimenter and the subject of the study.

both conditions or treatments. In this case, the participant served as the subject, but also as the person

In this case the treatment was whether the ink of the color and the word differ, such as the word blue
in the ink color red. For both posters, each word began with the same letter (e.g. boat and blue), color,
order of the same letter and color, number of syllables, and the number of letters per word were the
same. Mistakes made were not penalized, the participant was simply told that if they made a mistake
to fix it and move on. The participants not only served as subjects, but also experimenters. Once they
served both roles, they moved on to the next group. When the response time was said, the participant
was responsible for writing their own time. The experimenter was responsible for stopping and
starting the watch. Both rooms were in a controlled setting, the lighting, temperature, and the amount
of people inside the room were controlled. Room N and I were clearly labelled.
The words that were used in the control group were, starting from the left column: boat, yogurt, brain,
rat, and goose. The words used are five English words and the colors that were used were red, green,

A Report On Cystic Fibrosis
Cystic Fibrosis
Cystic fibrosis is described as a congenital disorder affecting exocrine gland function, with respiratory
effects, including excessive secretions, obstruction of the bronchial system, infection, and tissue
damage (Kowalczyk, 2014). Cystic fibrosis is also known as CF, and is the most common lethal
disease in white children (Kowalczyk, 2014).
People whom have CF have histologically normal lungs at birth. Lung damage occurs when secretions
from the enlarged bronchial glands gradually increase; this leads to the obstruction of the bronchial
system (Kowalczyk, 2014). Mucus clogs the airways and this plugging promotes infection such as
staph which causes more tissue damage; it also causes atelectasis and emphysema. Once this
destructive cycle starts, it is very difficult to stop and ultimately results in respiratory failure (Cystic
Fibrosis Foundation). Doctors will follow the diseases progression by chest x ray; it will show the
gradual worsening of structural abnormalities (Kowalczyk, 2014). CF does not just affect the
respiratory system, but also affects the exocrine system. Parts of the exocrine system affected are
salivary glands, the small bowel, pancreas, biliary tract, a female s cervix, and the male genital system
(Kowalczyk, 2014). The mucus in the pancreas stops the release of digestive enzymes; these digestive
enzymes are imperative for the body to break down food and absorb nutrients (Cystic Fibrosis
Foundation). Mucus can also cause liver

Similarities Between Abraham Lincoln And Abraham Lincoln
During the Civil War era, Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglas were two figures that changed
America forever. They became two of the most influential people of their time. Through their
powerful and motivating speeches, they were able to change the minds of Americans and help to
improve society and the welfare of the people. Douglas fought for black civil rights through
compelling speeches, while Lincoln spoke more calmly and peacefully for unity with the Confederate
states. Both men had very different goals but had the same motivation to achieve a better America for
all. Lincoln was born on a farm to a very poor family and had very little schooling. However, he rose
from very humble beginnings to become the 16th president of the United States shortly before the
beginning of the Civil War. His fame comes mostly from leading the country through the Civil War
and changing the thinking of the American people at that time. He is a self taught lawyer, who was
also a shrewd military strategist and savvy leader. Lincoln is known and recognized for the
Emancipation Proclamation. It helped pave the way for the abolition of slavery. Lincoln was a noble
man. He was known as honest Abe when he practiced law. When he spoke he stood still and kept his
hands behind his back. He used his words very cautiously but spoke with conviction and motivation.
He was always very positive, hoping for a reconciliation between the states. Lincoln s distinctively

The Physics of Football Essay
The Physics of Football
There is no question that everything people do in their lives involves physics. This is true from the
way we communicate to the way that we fight wars. In some cases the influence of the laws of physics
on our world are extremely apparent, such as in sports. Basketball, hockey, baseball and even cricket
involve physics. From the most basic motions players perform in the game, to different plays designed
by coaches, physics touches it all. These appearances of physics in the games that we play are
sometimes so subtle we don t even notice them. In other cases however, the impact of physics can be
heard across the stadium as Jerome The Bus Bettis barrels his way into the endzone. The influences of
physics on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance a wide receiver whose game depends greatly on being able to accelerate quickly will
prefer to play on an artificial surface with less friction. When a player gets in the open field he may be
capable of reaching his maximum momentum. When this player s momentum is suddenly changed
either with a great tackle or one hell of a hit the laws of physics concerning collisions, both elastic and
inelastic, come into play.
An elastic collision is a collision in which kinetic energy is conserved, such as when a running back is
hit so hard by the opposing team s linebacker on a lead draw play up the middle that the ball is forced
out of his arms. The fumbled ball then hits the turf and because of the elasticity of the collision it
bounces back up. Unlike an elastic collision, an inelastic collision does not conserve the kinetic energy
of the colliding objects (Kirkpatrick Wheeler 134). An example of an inelastic collision might be
when a player catches the ball (if he catches the ball) and the momentum of the ball is completely
stopped. However it is important to realize in this study of physics that a completely inelastic collision
is impossible to attain in the real world because the energy isn t really lost it is just converted into
different forms such as the sound the collision makes. So in a play where a ball carrier is in the open
field, a would be tackler would try to apply an impulse in an attempt to stop the other

My Heart Leaps Up By William Wordsworth Analysis
Simple little things sometimes speak louder than big and complicated words. Many poems were
written about love and gratitude to nature, but William Wordsworth s My Heart Leaps Up is one of a
kind. Simple by its structure and word choice, behind these nine lines of beautify written poem is
hidden deep and complex message. The poem is about love that makes a heart escape from the chest
and bounce up to the sky. The speaker not just loves nature; he can t imagine his life without it. He is a
grown man, but deeply in heart he saved the child s curiosity, light, and innocence. The child is a
father of a man confirms the idea that adults are grown old children who haven t lost ability to be

He would rather die than spend a minute without of it. His love to nature is passionate, unstoppable,
and memorable. Nevertheless, it is quiet and intimate, but it doesn t make it any less. The speaker
doesn t use loud and pathos words to show his adoration to nature because he knows that true love is
in details. The main detail to which his heart and mind tends is a rainbow. At first sight, for regular
people, the rainbow is nothing more than just a phenomenon of nature. However, for William
Wordsworth the rainbow emphasizes perfection of the nature and everything created. The seven colors
of rainbow show the diversity in life. Moreover, it has the beginning and end which can be seen from
the perspective of completeness. The rainbow for the author brings the light and happiness. The same
as the rainbow appears after storm, the positive and bright life always comes after dark times. The
rainbow is a big colorful upside on smile that sky sends to the people, and the speaker is overwhelmed
and blessed by its beauty. The last line shows how the speaker is devoted to the

Hollingsworth V. Virginia
Hollingsworth V. Virginia Hollingsworth v. Virginia was the court case that initiated in 1792 in which
it ruled the president possesses no formal role in the ratification of constitutional amendments. This
case went on for 6 years and began as a suit against the state of Virginia by the Indiana Land
Company. The 11th amendment deals with each state s sovereign immunity and was adopted in order
to overrule the U.S. Supreme Court s decision in Chisholm v. Georgia. In other words it prohibits
federal courts from hearing cases lodged against a state by a citizen or by another state. The Eleventh
Amendment was passed to overturn the Supreme Court ruling in the 1793 case of Chisholm v.
Georgia. Alexander Chisholm of South Carolina filed suit against the State of Georgia for breach of
contract, seeking payment for goods supplied to Georgia during the War of Independence. Levi
Hollingsworth was a merchant from Pennsylvania who owned shares in the Indiana Company that was
involved in land speculation. The company was seeking to resolve a land claim with the state of
Virginia regarding land in what is now West Virginia. Hollingsworth replaced the previous case
against a man named William Grayson who was from the state of Virginia. The replacement was made
when the Supreme Court ruled that a citizen or another state could sue a state. There were two main
problems the first was whether the 11th amendment was valid because it hadn t gotten approval from
the president yet. The second

A Lack Of Dignity By Ernest J. Gaines
A lack of dignity was shown throughout A Lesson Before Dying in the characters of Grant, Jefferson,
Miss Emma, Tante Lou, and Vivian. All of these characters in the novel struggled with their lack of
human morals which reflected on their impertinent actions towards themselves and among others. The
story takes place in the1940 s small Cajun town of Bayonne, Louisiana. In this time period there was
an abundance of racial segregation between african american people and a strong bias towards white
people. This shouldn t be an excuse or reason of why there was very little dignity throughout the
novel. Furthermore, Ernest J. Gaines gives us plenty of examples of how these characters showed this
lack of dignity among themselves and others. Grant Wiggins, a school teacher, is the most educated
man in the community. He s been to the university and came back home to teach at the same school
that he went to growing up as a child. This is an achievement of itself , and most of the people in his
community show him lots of respect for taking on this ruthless job. Unfortunately, his lack of dignity
is shown by him seeing his work at the school as being useless or unworthy. His perspective towards
his own community is that nothing ever changes and that all of these years of slavery had brought his
people s advancement to a sudden stop. Because of this feeling Grant shows several times in the novel
that he wants to leave town and start a new life somewhere else. He says in the novel,

Sexual Objectification in Music Videos and How Adolescents Are Affected
Lauren Faron, Aynsley Fishel, Nisha Patel, Menelik Solomon
The Ohio State University
Music videos are easily accessible to everyone, especially adolescents. From its earliest origins on TV
to recent upgrades to technology on the internet, such as YouTube, anyone can watch music videos at
any time of the day. Online music video sites draw an average of 150 million people each month who
view more than two billion videos per day (Mischner, Schie, Wigboldus, Baaren, Engels, 2013).
Sexually objectifying music videos have increased in the last couple of decades. With this, more
adolescents are being influenced by viewing these videos and mostly all of them are affected in some
way, either positive or negative. What a lot of people do not know is what is happening to adolescents
after viewing these types of music videos and how it can lead to concerning effects later in
development.
Literature Review
Adolescence is a crucial time in the lives of young boys and girls, especially when it comes to viewing
music videos. A survey showing that 78% of girls 12 19 years old watch MTV regularly, making them
the most frequent viewers at around 6.4 hours a week (Bell, Lawton, Dittmar, 2007). This is important
because it brings into light the idea of girls watching these sexually objectifying videos and how they
experience body dissatisfaction. Body dissatisfaction is a

the second stanza. The third stanza contains eight lines or an octave. Stanzas four and five are oddly in

poem begins, The Ocean said, Come flow freely with me with ten syllables written in pentameter
accompanied by iambic, spondee and trochee syllables. A steady rhythm in meter is noted in the next
four lines which declines to trimeter for all four lines. Line fourteen, and the creatures in my seas.
contains pyrrhic, trochee and anapestic syllables. The fifteenth line in trimeter, Here your tears will
disappear, contains for the first time in the poem, a dactyllic syllable accompanied by the iambic
syllable. Line sixteen, and your worries will cease. contains again the iambic syllable now
accompanied by the pyrrhic syllable. The last line in the series of trimeter lines is line seventeen which
states, Be the element that I need. . concludes the metered pattern. In lines fourteen through seventeen
the meter is measured the same, however there is a new element added to the syllables previously used

The observes reacted with GSR s of significantly greater magnitude during the pre recognition
presentation of the critical words than they did before recognizing the neutral words. In addition, the
observes displayed significantly higher thresholds recognition for the critical than for the neutral
words. Hypotheses made before recognition of the charged words were of such a nature as to indicate
resistance to recognizing these words. The findings are interpreted as representing conditioned
avoidance of verbal symbols having unpleasant meanings to the observer. The stimulus word serves as
cue to deeply imbedded anxiety which is revealed in automatic reactivity as measured by the GSR.
Avoidance of further anxiety is contemporaneously aroused in the form of perceptual defense again. (

on both occasions. Correlation between two test in terms of individual performance was highly
significant ( Singer, 1956) Words associated with either avoidance habits or disruptive states,

Rose for Emily Reader Response
A Rose for Emily Reader Response Essay All men and women are created equal and deserve fair
treatment from the opposite sex. However, since the beginning of history, sexual equality has not been
a virtue that was closely followed. Men tend to falsely assume that since they are physically more
capable than women, they are inherently also more important. Obviously that is not the case and this
sexism tends to create a powerful barrier between males and females. Thankfully, modern day culture
has vastly diminished the discrimination of women while resorting to more politically correct
viewpoints. Though in the early 1900s when A Rose for Emily was set, the Deep South still
considered women as major inferiorities to men, which is made ... Show more content on

When discussing Colonel Sartoris invention of an involved and skeptical tale about why Emily had
her taxes remitted, it is stated, Only a man of Colonel Sartoris generation and thought could have
invented it, and only a woman could have believed it (Faulkner, 217). Once again, instead of possibly
just hinting at the idea that women have a weak and feeble mind, the narrator just comes straight out
and makes his opinion seem like truth. The narrator was so ignorant and naïve that he presented his
idea that the invented story was ridiculous, to the extent that only a woman could believe it. I have
never heard something so absurd and wonder how a woman could be conceived as such an
incompetent fool. In retrospect, I did not live in this time period and it is a fact that women in the early
twentieth century attained less schooling than their male counterparts. However, does that give men
the right to go about and treat women like incompetent fools? I realize that authors have the freedom
to write a story from whatever perspective they wish, no matter how biased or misleading it may be,
but I also think people should take away valuable knowledge from the text they are reading. In the
case of A Rose for Emily, I did learn some good morals such as the power of death, but I mostly came
away with the idea that I am superior to the women in my life. I am not sure if that is what Faulkner
intended, but it is certainly not a

The Main Ideas of Liberal Political Theory
Examine the main ideas of Liberal political theory
It is perhaps safe to say that the most prominent political philosophy in contemporary era is liberalism.
Liberalism is based on the ideas of liberal political theorists of the last three hundred years. Among
these ideas, the first and most important deals with the question of liberty. Political theorists such as
John Locke and John Stuart Mill argued that liberty of individual citizens must be upheld by the state.
Mill particularly stated that the state should be liberal by default. The burden of proving that liberty
should be restricted or prohibited should lie on the states. Unless they can provide such proof, all
citizens should by presumption be at liberty. Locke, Rousseau, and Hobbes stated that liberty could be
restricted under certain circumstances. For instance, when the state is threatened by a revolt, and since
the state is the guarantor of liberty of all its subjects, the state is justified in curtailing some liberal
policies but temporarily. The government under liberal political theory is viewed as a necessary evil.
The theory suggests that the power and the role of the state should be minimized. There should also be
a balance of power in the state. Democracy is essential for liberal political theory. Citizens should
enjoy both liberty and the freedom to elect or, in the absence of liberal political order, overthrow the
government. But the liberties of citizens cannot be guaranteed in a state of anarchy.

The Impact of Housing Benefits on Pregnant Teenagers
The Impacts of Housing Benefits on Pregnant Teenagers Abstract: UK Benefits System is responsible
for providing many deserving groups with financial and material support. As such we consider the
various factors that create beneficial opportunities for individuals. We delve into the specific case of
pregnant teenagers who make for a particularly deserving group with regards to their special
circumstances. Housing benefits are generally considered and their obvious socio economic impacts
are recognized. Public Services in most developed countries are targeted towards making lives
convenient and hence productive. It is safe to say that a comfortable and secure life promises to be a
socially and economically prolific life. With regard to this, the United Kingdom has successfully
structured a social security system that aims to manage government expenditure and efficient welfare
provision with respect to credible claimants. The UK Benefit System is concentrated towards a
number of deserving groups such as the unemployed, senior citizenry, disabled individuals,
chronically sick individuals or bereaved claimants. (Emmerson Leicester, 2002) The basic aim of this
endeavor is to make lives of British citizens contented enough to ensure a valid level of national
contribution and of course give back to the needy. Not only will this help them become more
illustrious people but will also go on to pull them out of the unforgiving vortex of vicious poverty.
This system caters to the

The Importance Of The Protestant Reformation
When I think of the Protestant Reformation, the first thing that comes to mind is the
Augsburg Confession. The protestant reformation can be defined as the 16th century religious,
political, intellectual and cultural upheaval that splintered Catholic Europe, setting in place the
structures and beliefs that would define the continent in the modern era. The augsburg confession is
the foremost confession of faith for the Lutheran Church. It was written by Phillip Melanchton and
presented to Charles V on June 25, 1530. The main goal of this confession was to restore religious and
political unity. There are also many reasons why the augsburg confession ties into this and reveals its
importance throughout history.
There are 28 articles included in the confession but we are going to focus on the first four: God, the
original sin, Christ and justification. The first article that the augsburg confession reveals is God. The
church was a major component to the way of life in this era, so they had copious amounts of control
over people and the consequences based on betrayal. The churches were based on catholic views and
the aspects of their beliefs could be supplemented by leaders that wanted to extend their power and
control the church. The goal of the protestant reformation was to change those views that the churches
were claiming to be the right way to do things. In the augsburg confession it outlines the importance
of God saying that he is eternal, without body, without parts...

The Legend Of Santa Claus
Mommy! Is Santa Claus coming tomorrow? The two year old child ran up to her mother joyfully as
her two pigtails bounced up and down. Ugh...your dad...I mean Santa Claus will come and bring you
presents. The mother nervously answered her question. You promise mommy? The innocent child
looked up at her mother giving her all of her trust. Yes, I promise. She broke into a sweat and her hand
began to feel clammy against her bouncing knee. Her conscious begged her not fabricate any false
myths to her young and gullible child. The legend of Santa Claus can be followed back hundreds of
years by a priest named St. Nicholas. And since then, millions of children have been lied to about a fat
man that comes to one s house to steal cookies and brings people presents. Parents have argued that
telling one s children is not harmful at all. And they are just carrying a tradition that their parents have
passed down to them. It is unbelievable that parents can have the audacity to look into their children s
eyes and tell them that Santa exists, thus from my perspective, parents should stop lying to their
children. Many may wonder why telling their children that a fat man comes to sneak in their house in
the middle of the night to drop off materialistic items is a big deal. Little did they know that deceiving
their children is unhealthy for their mental health. Psychologist Christopher Boyle and mental health
researcher Kathy McKay explain that this is important to point out

Problem: Prada requires a significant amount of capital both to re finance debt that is maturing in the
next six to twelve months and to finance its intended growth into the Asian (especially Chinese)
markets
Alternative Solutions:
#1) IPO: (Initial Public Offering) Cons: High tax and pricing We received little demand from our
(retail) clients for the (Prada) shares. It might be the 12.5 percent tax that scared them away and the
pricing itself was expensive when it compared with its peers, said Alfred Chan, chief dealer at Cheer
Pearl Investment. Unlike institutions, our retail clients hold the shares for a much shorter term, he
added.
Consumers are willing to pay a very high premium chasing after brands, but ... Show more content on

If Chanel was not posting incredible results, no one would know. But if they were public and this was
known, some customers would say that the brand was not cool anymore this is a risk.
Prada raised US$2.14 billion from a Hong Kong IPO in June last year. That was around a fifth less
capital than the company had planned for. As things transpired, retail investors were put off by the
prospect of Italian capital gains and dividend taxes, which they were liable to pay (even though the
listing was in Hong Kong).
.
the share price shot up in July but then proceeded to lose around a third of its value to December, as
investors panicked about stock market and real estate declines.
The New York Stock Exchange, the biggest in the world by market capitalisation, was arguably a safer
choice.
That the share price has been so volatile is a measure of the risk in instigating an IPO in relatively
uncharted waters.
Risk is a core reason why other luxury goods companies, with an eye on a Hong Kong listing, have
hesitated. Prada was bold in its listing strategy, and that has to be one of the biggest lessons. It is one
thing to identify emerging Asia and China in particular as the sweet spot of luxury goods opportunity,
it is another to act on it
Prada has moved speedily away from a wholesale model, which was shown to have fundamental
weaknesses in the aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis

Object Relations Theory Is A Psychodynamic Theory
Object Relations Theory Object relations theory is a psychodynamic theory that observes our
capability to form long lasting attachments, and is based on our early experiences of disconnection
from and connections with out primary caregivers. We internalize our initial relationship examples,
which means that our first relationships make lasting impressions on us, determining how we
approach future relationships. Also, object relations theory studies how people form various attitudes
towards others and how those attitudes affect their view of themselves as well as social relationships.
There is a central notion of object relation s theory, which is that all people naturally search for
relationships with others, what this theory looks at is how well an individual can form the
interpersonal relationship and what, if any, deficiencies in social functioning may have occurred. For
social workers, this theory is helpful in seeing an individual in the framework of the relationship rather
than an individual being. According to object relations theory, the ultimate situation is to be raised by
caregivers who in turn help us to progressively and appropriately move away from their physical and
emotional direct care while they continue to convey their availability for support (Hutchison, 2013).
These early associations are a major determinant of our personalities and the quality of our
interpersonal performance (Hutchison, 2013; Dorfman, Meyer, Morgan, 1998). Essentially, an

Non-Participant Observation
Observations are one of the most distinctive features in doing case studies. The conventional manner
of collecting data takes the form of using my own five senses, taking field notes, transcribing and
ultimately creating a narrative based on what has been seen, heard or sensed. Mechanical devices such
as video cameras, recoding, and digital still images help in depicting the observations in the field.
3.3.1.1. Non participant observations According to Cohen and Manion (2002: 101), as quoted in Rashe
(2006:7), an important aspect of a case study is observations. There are two broad types of
observations, namely: non participant and participant observations. Cohen and Manion (1980:101)

Difficulties In Charlestown
Difficulties in settling in Charles Town(Charleston) Have you ever moved? Or, ever attempted to
settle in another place? It s very difficult, do you know why? When the English tried settling in
America it wasn t easy for them because they encountered lots of problems such as the Native
Americans(they weren t pleased with the english taking their land) they also encountered many
diseases and the many wild animals that lived there. Why was Charles Town so difficult to settle in? If
a cartographer (person who makes maps) would make a map of Charles Town back in the day he/she
would encounter the obstacle of not knowing where Native Americans actually were because they

Another reason of why Charles Town was complicated to settle was because of diseases like
smallpox. It seemed like every settler had smallpox, even Eliza Lucas Pinckney wrote it on a letter A

smallpox a lot of buisness stopped. So why was Charles Town difficult to settle? Well because of
resources, diseases, and geography. Why Geography? Because Charles Town was full of swamps and
building colonies was difficult. Why Resources? Because there was lots of resources, but Native
Americans and europeans fought for all of them and they were always in war.And why Diseases?
Because lots of diseases like smallpox appeared in Charles Town and made buisness stop and killed
lots of people. So due to all these reasons Charles Town was very difficult and complicated to settle

This paper will be discussing the past, present, and future of web designers and developers. First by
looking at the brief history of websites and how it has evolved to what is it today. Second will be
discussing the present trends of how people are viewing websites on mobile devices such as: cell
phones and tablets, and how that affects the design and development of websites. Lastly we ll discuss
the possible expectations the future has in store for us, devices like Google glass and other
advancements to come. Website would of course not exist without the invention of the internet, which

In the decade mobile devices such as cell phones and tablets have risen in usage for visiting websites.
Since 2010 there as been a 400% growth in mobile web searches. (ETC, 2013) Unfortunately websites
are very hard for the user to view and navigate through websites not designed for a small screen used
on cell phones. This was the new challenge for web designers to solve and with the growth of
popularity of mobile usage the web designers needed to make websites for both personal computers
and mobile devices. Now often if the user visit a website using a mobile device they will be asked if
they want to go to the mobile site which are specifically designed for a better user interface and design
for the mobile device. With the smaller screens of mobile devices the we designers needed to layout
the website completely differently so the user does not get overwhelmed or confused. The new trend
for 2013 is called Responsive Web Design also known as RWD which allows users have a better
experience on both P.C. s and mobile devices. The RWD templates are designed to work and have a
good visual feel on a variety of different screens, so a user on any device accessing a website will have
a good experience on what ever device. (Taheri, 2013) Scrolling and navigation panels on websites
have also begun to change, now certain apps have been integrated into websites for users to have a
more fun and effective way to navigate though

Summary Of Mt. Hood, Oregon By Albert Bierstadt
Albert Bierstadt was a painter most remembered for his dramatic and large masterpieces that focused
on extreme color and contrast, especially with lighting. However, when it comes to his painting, Mt.
Hood, Oregon, he tends to defy those preconceived ideas. Painted in the early 1860 s, this painting is
representative of Bierstadt s earlier artwork. He uses lighter brushstrokes, a brighter and more
monochromatic color palette, and is depicting a minimalist scene in its natural state (Figure 1). The
painting is currently displayed at the Currier Museum of Art in Manchester, NH, and while it is
frequently described as small it is larger than you think. Measuring at fifty one inches by sixty one and
a quarter inches leaves the Mt. Hood, Oregon painting seeming small compared to his typical
artworks. Due to the smaller size of the painting, one is lead to believe that he did not have access to
the supplies or the desire to create a masterpiece of such grand scale such as The Rocky Mountains,
one of his most notable pieces. Bierstadt painted Mt. Hood, Oregon by sketching the location on a
canvas and then painting it with oil paint. When analyzing the painting up close you are able to see the
level of transparency in the paint, resulting in sections of the canvas to shine through the color (Figure
2 and 3). In order to achieve this look it is likely that Albert Bierstadt used large amounts of turpentine
to thin out the medium of oil paint, resulting in a transparent color.

Property Ownership In My Woods
Property ownership is a positive aspect because it can teach strong values. While E.M. Forster does
point out some of the negative aspects of property ownerships in his essay My Woods . However, I
believe that with property ownership comes many beneficial opportunities that cannot be achieved if
property is rented from others rather than owned. Land ownership and home ownership is a major
aspect of property there are many people who do own land. Property ownership of land is a good
thing. The benefits of land and home ownership is that it can create a sense of security, freedom, as

The white hat is based on facts and calls on facts and nothing less. A business person or even a student

straightforward. For a person who is on a white thinking hat will only look through the facts and
figures and concludes based on that findings. For example, a business man who is looking through

not compromise for any other discussion. The advantage of being on white thinking hat is that there ...

The Challenges Of Movement And Improvisation
Movement and Improvisation requires one to articulate his or her thoughts so that anything, no matter
whether it s an emotion, an object, a situation, an action, a reaction, or any other thing that comes to
mind, can be expressed as a movement, no matter how weird or wonderful the movement turns out to
be.
When I was first introduced to Movement and Improvisation when I entered SOTA, I felt very self
consious as I did not know if I was doing it right , or if others were judging me. However, I slowly
started to feel more comfortable and realised that no one was judging anyone. I then felt the fun in

One of the biggest challenge I faced was that I kept on losing focus halfway through improvising, then
blank out. For example, once during contact improvisation, the whole class was instructed to huddle
up into a smaller ball. Once my partner and I entered the ball , I was almost crushed by someone else
as I was on the floor. This made me panic and lose track of where my partner s hands was. However,
after being able to participate in improvisation classes with Mr Sascia, Giselle, Nicole, Cherie and Su
Nin, I was able to really focus on myself and my surroundings, and not lose focus no matter what
circumstances. Another challenge I faced was that I was not able to react to music well, such as Mr
Sascia s percussion. When we were told to improvise according to Mr Sascia s music, I felt a sense of
hesitation, which led to myself not really applying the music into my movements. However after a few
classes with Mr Sascia, I learnt to be more attentive to the music and listen until the music completely
comes to a stop. By listening to the small details of the music, I was able to let my body freely react to
the music whether or not the movement was huge or very small. All these challenges I was able to

Each character resembles the light in the darkness and the darkness signifies the tragic ending. A great

Fashion insiders also have another mental map the map of seasons and shows. When consumers shop
for winter coats or summer swimsuits, fashion insiders are seasons ahead in their thinking.
Forecasters use these mental maps to organize their observations of directional information. Since
innovations rarely apply to the entire marketplace, information must be tagged for the appropriate
price point, category and classification. In this way, forecasters turn random bits of data into useful
information for decision support, points and style directions.
The drivers of fashion change
Social and cultural changes are major determinants of emerging fashions. However, they are
themselves affected by the other drivers of change that include globalization of world markets and

The most common method of creating a base for a whole head weave is to braid the hair in cornrows
from the front to the back, while leaving out a small section at the top to cover the tracks. However,
this method can not be done for a partial hair weave. To complete a partial sew in you would need to
braid the area of hair that will hold the extensions in a side to side pattern.
Step 2 After the base has been made, you will need to sew the remaining ends of the cornrow on to it.
Start by threading the needle. You would do this by inserting the thread through the eye of the needle.
Once you have that completed fold the thread in two and measure out approximately 18 inches. At the
end, tie the two pieces together in a knot.
Step 3
Fold the end of the braid on top of the cornrow and sew it down using a basic stitch method. Once you
have reached the end of the braid you should make a knot to keep it from coming undone.
Step 4
Open the pack of hair extensions and comb out any knots or tangles pay special attention to any
rubber bands or pins used to keep the hair together.
Step 5
Next you will have to locate the weft on the hair extension. The weft is the sturdy area at the top of the
extension. This is where the hair has been looped together with thread. It resembles a seam.
Step 6
Once the weft has been located, you will then need to lay the extension on top of the cornrow to
measure the length of the braid. Once the length

Holodomor: The Effects of the Past on the Present The past profoundly affects the future. When a
people is oppressed in a manner intended to crush their spirit, one of two things can happen: either
they will be crushed, as intended, or their resolve will be solidified. Despite occupations in the past,
Ukraine has maintained a nationalistic spirit that has transcended many decades and dictators. Over
eighty years ago Ukraine was nearly pushed to a breaking point. This occurred when Joseph Stalin
instituted a brutal, yet bloodless murder of Ukrainians, something that continues to have an impact on
Ukraine and Russia. In late November of 2013, Ukrainian leadership under President Yanukovych,
decided to pursue closer trade ties with Russia instead of the European Union (Ukraine Crisis). This is
vitally important because it revealed a split in the country which dates back to the early 1930 s. This
split, according to a BBC article named Ukraine Crisis, resulted in the people of Western Ukraine
inciting a protest numbering over 800,000. As explained by Chalupa, the European Union, or E.U.,
membership means distance from Russia and increased economic potential. Ties with Russia are
opposed by the majority of the country because of the tumultuous past the two have together. With this

Unfulfilled Dreams Exposed in Hughes Harlem Essay
Unfulfilled Dreams Exposed in Hughes s Harlem
Most of us have dreams that we one day hope to fulfill. They could be little dreams that will take little
time and effort to accomplish, or they could be big dreams that will take more time and energy to
fulfill. Nevertheless, whether one s dream is as mundane as hitting the numbers or as noble as hoping
to see one s children reared properly, each dream is equally important to the person who has it (Bizot
904). Each dream is also equally painful when it is taken away; or if we never have the opportunity to
make the dream a reality. In the poem Harlem by Langston Hughes, the different emotions that people
feel when a dream is deferred is presented through Hughes s unique ... Show more content on

For some of the words, he uses the dictionary meaning, yet for others he uses the connotative
meaning. When Hughes uses a word connotatively, he wants the reader to receive a deeper meaning
than the dictionary definition would give. For example, the word deferred in Harlem means
unfulfilled. The dictionary meaning, however, is to postpone. In the dictionary, postpone means will
happen at a later date or time. However, the dreams that Hughes refers to are ones that will never
come true.
Hughes also uses the connotative meaning for the word fester (line 4). The dictionary meaning is to
form pus, yet this definition does not seem strong enough for the emotion the word is trying to
express. The word fester in the poem means to become a source of pain or anger. This is exactly what
becomes of a person s deferred dream. It becomes painful because that dream never leaves the person
s mind. The person might forget about it for a little while and go on with his or her life, but like most
painful memories, it will pop up when the person least expects it to.
Each line in the poem Harlem gives an imaginative description of what a person with a deferred dream
can become. Since this poem does not define or give examples of the dream, we ll have to make up
our own (901). Lines two and three ask, Does it dry up / like a raisin in the sun? We know that a

Wealth of the United States Essay examples
Wealth of the United States nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; There is a problem in the United States that
is growing and is causing issues in our country, but not everybody knows about it. The problem is the
distribution of wealth in our society and the world as a whole, and how it is getting worse. Some
people would say that it is an inequality due to the needs of the society, while others would say it is to
the needs or individuals. This causes even more problems because of there being more than one
supposed reason for the issue at hand. The problem is that the distribution of power is possibly starting
to be lopsided, and for many reasons. There are two main views of why this is happening, the
functionalist perspective and the conflict ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This theory tells that poor people are poor because they do not work hard enough or even at all and
that if they work harder, they will be rewarded with more resources or money. It also says that rich
people have worked very hard to get where they are and it is not just because of their desire to get
what they have, they had to work also. This contributes to society due to the fact that everyone is in a
different class and this states that the classes are earned and not just given, so it tells everyone that
almost all positions are given do to merit and other factors that are earned. Society as a whole is the
basis of where people get, it is not because the people have needs and desires that need to be satisfied.
nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;On the other side of the spectrum, are the conflict theorists, who believe
that the inequality of the resources trying to be attained is caused directly because of the wants and
desires of the people who are trying to attain them. This theory is all based on a group of people in
power making the other groups think that they are the best to be in power and create a false
consciousness for the masses. The main group stays in power because they make all sorts of promises
to the masses and deceive them at the same time. The group in power takes everything that they can
from the people and tell them that this is due to another cause. A basic example is how Enron worked
and how the executives spent lavishly and even got severance

  • 2. Winter Wheat Research Paper Stichler and Livingston (1999) previously stated that a major advantage of winter wheat compared with other small grain species that could be grown for winter forage production is its excellent tolerance to abiotic stresses including cold and drought. In addition, wheat forage has relatively high nutritive values including high protein, energy values, minerals, and low fiber concentrations, compared with barley (Hordeum vulgare L.), oat (Avena sativa L.), and rye (Secale cereale L.) forages. Generally, forage yield of winter wheat from late November to early March is more consistent and productive than that of the other species (Denman and Arnold, 1970; Watson et al., 1993). Bockus et al. (2001) and Watson et al. (1993) mentioned that susceptibility of winter wheat to Hessian fly [Mayetiola destructor (Say)], leaf rust (incited by Puccinia triticina), and several virus diseases could be obstacles for successful winter forage production, especially in early planted regions. ... Prasad and Power (1997) and Sparks (2003) reported that soil acidity caused by the nitrification process, organic matter decomposition, and acid rain has been a major limitation for winter forage production in the southern Great Plains. Therefore, development of winter wheat varieties tolerant to acidic soil and high Al concentration is one of important goals for the winter wheat breeding programs, especially in the southern Great Plains (Johnson et al., ... • 3. Starbucks‚Äô Strategy What are some of the decision factors that Starbucks assess? Starbucks strategy for expanding its retail business is to increase its market share in existing markets and to open stores in new markets where the opportunity exists to become the leading specialty coffee retailer. Although the Chinese dislike drinking in public, the high awareness of the brand and the Chinese market being so brand driven outweighs this habit. The Chinese consumers perceived the high prices as conveying quality and sophistication. Retailers keep this in mind as they charge more for public consumption, as customers go to Starbucks if not for the coffee, but to present themselves as modern Chinese in a public setting. • 5. A Report On Cystic Fibrosis Cystic Fibrosis Cystic fibrosis is described as a congenital disorder affecting exocrine gland function, with respiratory effects, including excessive secretions, obstruction of the bronchial system, infection, and tissue damage (Kowalczyk, 2014). Cystic fibrosis is also known as CF, and is the most common lethal disease in white children (Kowalczyk, 2014). People whom have CF have histologically normal lungs at birth. Lung damage occurs when secretions from the enlarged bronchial glands gradually increase; this leads to the obstruction of the bronchial system (Kowalczyk, 2014). Mucus clogs the airways and this plugging promotes infection such as staph which causes more tissue damage; it also causes atelectasis and emphysema. Once this destructive cycle starts, it is very difficult to stop and ultimately results in respiratory failure (Cystic Fibrosis Foundation). Doctors will follow the diseases progression by chest x ray; it will show the gradual worsening of structural abnormalities (Kowalczyk, 2014). CF does not just affect the respiratory system, but also affects the exocrine system. Parts of the exocrine system affected are salivary glands, the small bowel, pancreas, biliary tract, a female s cervix, and the male genital system (Kowalczyk, 2014). The mucus in the pancreas stops the release of digestive enzymes; these digestive enzymes are imperative for the body to break down food and absorb nutrients (Cystic Fibrosis Foundation). They became two of the most influential people of their time. Through their powerful and motivating speeches, they were able to change the minds of Americans and help to improve society and the welfare of the people. Douglas fought for black civil rights through compelling speeches, while Lincoln spoke more calmly and peacefully for unity with the Confederate states. Both men had very different goals but had the same motivation to achieve a better America for all. Lincoln was born on a farm to a very poor family and had very little schooling. However, he rose from very humble beginnings to become the 16th president of the United States shortly before the beginning of the Civil War. His fame comes mostly from leading the country through the Civil War and changing the thinking of the American people at that time. He is a self taught lawyer, who was also a shrewd military strategist and savvy leader. Lincoln is known and recognized for the Emancipation Proclamation. This is true from the way we communicate to the way that we fight wars. In some cases the influence of the laws of physics on our world are extremely apparent, such as in sports. Basketball, hockey, baseball and even cricket involve physics. From the most basic motions players perform in the game, to different plays designed by coaches, physics touches it all. These appearances of physics in the games that we play are sometimes so subtle we don t even notice them. In other cases however, the impact of physics can be heard across the stadium as Jerome The Bus Bettis barrels his way into the endzone. The influences of physics on ... When a player gets in the open field he may be capable of reaching his maximum momentum. When this player s momentum is suddenly changed either with a great tackle or one hell of a hit the laws of physics concerning collisions, both elastic and inelastic, come into play. An elastic collision is a collision in which kinetic energy is conserved, such as when a running back is hit so hard by the opposing team s linebacker on a lead draw play up the middle that the ball is forced out of his arms. The fumbled ball then hits the turf and because of the elasticity of the collision it bounces back up. Unlike an elastic collision, an inelastic collision does not conserve the kinetic energy of the colliding objects (Kirkpatrick Wheeler 134). An example of an inelastic collision might be when a player catches the ball (if he catches the ball) and the momentum of the ball is completely stopped. However it is important to realize in this study of physics that a completely inelastic collision is impossible to attain in the real world because the energy isn t really lost it is just converted into different forms such as the sound the collision makes. So in a play where a ball carrier is in the open field, a would be tackler would try to apply an impulse in an attempt to stop the other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many poems were written about love and gratitude to nature, but William Wordsworth s My Heart Leaps Up is one of a kind. The poem is about love that makes a heart escape from the chest and bounce up to the sky. The speaker not just loves nature; he can t imagine his life without it. However, for William Wordsworth the rainbow emphasizes perfection of the nature and everything created. The seven colors of rainbow show the diversity in life. Moreover, it has the beginning and end which can be seen from the perspective of completeness. The rainbow for the author brings the light and happiness. The same as the rainbow appears after storm, the positive and bright life always comes after dark times. Virginia was the court case that initiated in 1792 in which it ruled the president possesses no formal role in the ratification of constitutional amendments. This case went on for 6 years and began as a suit against the state of Virginia by the Indiana Land Company. The 11th amendment deals with each state s sovereign immunity and was adopted in order to overrule the U.S. Supreme Court s decision in Chisholm v. Georgia. In other words it prohibits federal courts from hearing cases lodged against a state by a citizen or by another state. The Eleventh Amendment was passed to overturn the Supreme Court ruling in the 1793 case of Chisholm v. Georgia. • 13. A Lack Of Dignity By Ernest J. Gaines A lack of dignity was shown throughout A Lesson Before Dying in the characters of Grant, Jefferson, Miss Emma, Tante Lou, and Vivian. All of these characters in the novel struggled with their lack of human morals which reflected on their impertinent actions towards themselves and among others. The story takes place in the1940 s small Cajun town of Bayonne, Louisiana. In this time period there was an abundance of racial segregation between african american people and a strong bias towards white people. This shouldn t be an excuse or reason of why there was very little dignity throughout the novel. Furthermore, Ernest J. Gaines gives us plenty of examples of how these characters showed this lack of dignity among themselves and others. Grant Wiggins, a school teacher, is the most educated man in the community. He s been to the university and came back home to teach at the same school that he went to growing up as a child. This is an achievement of itself , and most of the people in his community show him lots of respect for taking on this ruthless job. Unfortunately, his lack of dignity is shown by him seeing his work at the school as being useless or unworthy. His perspective towards his own community is that nothing ever changes and that all of these years of slavery had brought his people s advancement to a sudden stop. Because of this feeling Grant shows several times in the novel that he wants to leave town and start a new life somewhere else. He says in the novel, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sexual Objectification in Music Videos and How Adolescents Are Affected Lauren Faron, Aynsley Fishel, Nisha Patel, Menelik Solomon The Ohio State University Music videos are easily accessible to everyone, especially adolescents. From its earliest origins on TV to recent upgrades to technology on the internet, such as YouTube, anyone can watch music videos at any time of the day. Online music video sites draw an average of 150 million people each month who view more than two billion videos per day (Mischner, Schie, Wigboldus, Baaren, Engels, 2013). Sexually objectifying music videos have increased in the last couple of decades. With this, more adolescents are being influenced by viewing these videos and mostly all of them are affected in some way, either positive or negative. What a lot of people do not know is what is happening to adolescents after viewing these types of music videos and how it can lead to concerning effects later in development. However, since the beginning of history, sexual equality has not been a virtue that was closely followed. Men tend to falsely assume that since they are physically more capable than women, they are inherently also more important. Obviously that is not the case and this sexism tends to create a powerful barrier between males and females. Thankfully, modern day culture has vastly diminished the discrimination of women while resorting to more politically correct viewpoints. Once again, instead of possibly just hinting at the idea that women have a weak and feeble mind, the narrator just comes straight out and makes his opinion seem like truth. The narrator was so ignorant and naïve that he presented his idea that the invented story was ridiculous, to the extent that only a woman could believe it. I have never heard something so absurd and wonder how a woman could be conceived as such an incompetent fool. In retrospect, I did not live in this time period and it is a fact that women in the early twentieth century attained less schooling than their male counterparts. However, does that give men the right to go about and treat women like incompetent fools? I realize that authors have the freedom to write a story from whatever perspective they wish, no matter how biased or misleading it may be, but I also think people should take away valuable knowledge from the text they are reading. • 18. The Main Ideas of Liberal Political Theory Examine the main ideas of Liberal political theory It is perhaps safe to say that the most prominent political philosophy in contemporary era is liberalism. Liberalism is based on the ideas of liberal political theorists of the last three hundred years. Among these ideas, the first and most important deals with the question of liberty. Political theorists such as John Locke and John Stuart Mill argued that liberty of individual citizens must be upheld by the state. Mill particularly stated that the state should be liberal by default. The burden of proving that liberty should be restricted or prohibited should lie on the states. Unless they can provide such proof, all citizens should by presumption be at liberty. Locke, Rousseau, and Hobbes stated that liberty could be restricted under certain circumstances. For instance, when the state is threatened by a revolt, and since the state is the guarantor of liberty of all its subjects, the state is justified in curtailing some liberal policies but temporarily. The government under liberal political theory is viewed as a necessary evil. The theory suggests that the power and the role of the state should be minimized. There should also be a balance of power in the state. Democracy is essential for liberal political theory. Citizens should enjoy both liberty and the freedom to elect or, in the absence of liberal political order, overthrow the government. But the liberties of citizens cannot be guaranteed in a state of anarchy. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The protestant reformation can be defined as the 16th century religious, political, intellectual and cultural upheaval that splintered Catholic Europe, setting in place the structures and beliefs that would define the continent in the modern era. The augsburg confession is the foremost confession of faith for the Lutheran Church. It was written by Phillip Melanchton and presented to Charles V on June 25, 1530. The main goal of this confession was to restore religious and political unity. There are also many reasons why the augsburg confession ties into this and reveals its importance throughout history. There are 28 articles included in the confession but we are going to focus on the first four: God, the original sin, Christ and justification. The first article that the augsburg confession reveals is God. The church was a major component to the way of life in this era, so they had copious amounts of control over people and the consequences based on betrayal. The churches were based on catholic views and the aspects of their beliefs could be supplemented by leaders that wanted to extend their power and control the church. Object Relations Theory Is A Psychodynamic Theory Object Relations Theory Object relations theory is a psychodynamic theory that observes our capability to form long lasting attachments, and is based on our early experiences of disconnection from and connections with out primary caregivers. We internalize our initial relationship examples, which means that our first relationships make lasting impressions on us, determining how we approach future relationships. Also, object relations theory studies how people form various attitudes towards others and how those attitudes affect their view of themselves as well as social relationships. There is a central notion of object relation s theory, which is that all people naturally search for relationships with others, what this theory looks at is how well an individual can form the interpersonal relationship and what, if any, deficiencies in social functioning may have occurred. For social workers, this theory is helpful in seeing an individual in the framework of the relationship rather than an individual being. According to object relations theory, the ultimate situation is to be raised by caregivers who in turn help us to progressively and appropriately move away from their physical and emotional direct care while they continue to convey their availability for support (Hutchison, 2013). These early associations are a major determinant of our personalities and the quality of our interpersonal performance (Hutchison, 2013; Dorfman, Meyer, Morgan, 1998). Essentially, an ... • 30. Summary Of Mt. Hood, Oregon By Albert Bierstadt Albert Bierstadt was a painter most remembered for his dramatic and large masterpieces that focused on extreme color and contrast, especially with lighting. However, when it comes to his painting, Mt. Hood, Oregon, he tends to defy those preconceived ideas. Painted in the early 1860 s, this painting is representative of Bierstadt s earlier artwork. He uses lighter brushstrokes, a brighter and more monochromatic color palette, and is depicting a minimalist scene in its natural state (Figure 1). The painting is currently displayed at the Currier Museum of Art in Manchester, NH, and while it is frequently described as small it is larger than you think. Measuring at fifty one inches by sixty one and a quarter inches leaves the Mt. Hood, Oregon painting seeming small compared to his typical artworks. Due to the smaller size of the painting, one is lead to believe that he did not have access to the supplies or the desire to create a masterpiece of such grand scale such as The Rocky Mountains, one of his most notable pieces. Bierstadt painted Mt. Hood, Oregon by sketching the location on a canvas and then painting it with oil paint. When analyzing the painting up close you are able to see the level of transparency in the paint, resulting in sections of the canvas to shine through the color (Figure 2 and 3). In order to achieve this look it is likely that Albert Bierstadt used large amounts of turpentine to thin out the medium of oil paint, resulting in a transparent color. ... However, this method can not be done for a partial hair weave. To complete a partial sew in you would need to braid the area of hair that will hold the extensions in a side to side pattern. Step 2 After the base has been made, you will need to sew the remaining ends of the cornrow on to it. Start by threading the needle. You would do this by inserting the thread through the eye of the needle. Once you have that completed fold the thread in two and measure out approximately 18 inches. At the end, tie the two pieces together in a knot. Step 3 Fold the end of the braid on top of the cornrow and sew it down using a basic stitch method. Despite occupations in the past, Ukraine has maintained a nationalistic spirit that has transcended many decades and dictators. Over eighty years ago Ukraine was nearly pushed to a breaking point. This occurred when Joseph Stalin instituted a brutal, yet bloodless murder of Ukrainians, something that continues to have an impact on Ukraine and Russia. In late November of 2013, Ukrainian leadership under President Yanukovych, decided to pursue closer trade ties with Russia instead of the European Union (Ukraine Crisis). For some of the words, he uses the dictionary meaning, yet for others he uses the connotative meaning. When Hughes uses a word connotatively, he wants the reader to receive a deeper meaning than the dictionary definition would give. For example, the word deferred in Harlem means unfulfilled. The dictionary meaning, however, is to postpone. In the dictionary, postpone means will happen at a later date or time. However, the dreams that Hughes refers to are ones that will never come true. Hughes also uses the connotative meaning for the word fester (line 4). The dictionary meaning is to form pus, yet this definition does not seem strong enough for the emotion the word is trying to express. The word fester in the poem means to become a source of pain or anger. This is exactly what becomes of a person s deferred dream. It becomes painful because that dream never leaves the person s mind. The person might forget about it for a little while and go on with his or her life, but like most painful memories, it will pop up when the person least expects it to.
