Beanbag Project Research Paper
Project title
Original? Why?
Was it difficult to solve? Consider access to knowledge, problems to solve, resources needed
What real life problem did it solve?
The Beanbag Project
This experiment is quite original as many people just use bean bags without even thinking about how
many beans are used inside of them. I haven t heard of any other experiments testing the same thing,
so to me I think that this experiment is unique.
This experiment doesn t seem very difficult to solve, as the main thing that you have to do is test other
people s thoughts. The resource which would be needed would be beanbags with different amount of
beans in them, which may have been difficult cost wise.
A real life problem in the world is the pollution which is in the environment. ... Show more content on

This means that Sam s experiment is original as it most likely hasn t been done before where someone
has come up with a different conclusion.
This experiment may have been difficult to solve if the person conducting the experiment didn t either
have chickens at their house or have access to someone else s backyard chickens. He would also have
to take into consideration that the experiment might not be a fair test as some of the chickens may be
fed more, making their eggs bigger.
A real life problem is the weight of chicken eggs, and how some are very light and some are quite
heavy in comparison. This could also solve the problem of knowing when chickens will lay eggs
which weigh a different amount. This could also lead someone on to conduct an experiment which
shows the type of food which chickens eat to make their eggs lose less weight. It would mean that the
owners of the chickens could know when to stop eating their eggs and just enjoy them as their pets, or
could label their eggs either light or heavy.

State Tax Breaks: In the U.S., when a manufacturing firm is looking for a new location to set up
operations, there is a large incentive for local governments to offer large tax credits towards the
organization in order to entice them to locate within their region. This is because the jobs that a
manufacturing plant brings greatly improve the prosperity of the region. An example of the tax breaks
available is when Nucor opened a steel mill in North Carolina costing $300 Million, Hertford County
offered Nucor $155 Million in tax breaks to bring 300 jobs to the region.
Anti Dumping Tariffs: During the early 2000 s, U.S. Steel prices were plummeting to 20 year lows
and all but the two largest manufacturers were posting losses. In 2001, Bush posted anti dumping
tariffs in order to protect the US steel industry from bankruptcy. While this upset the World Trade
Organization, steel prices began to recover in 2002 and 2003 until Bush withdrew the tariff. In
addition, China imposed their own three year tariff on Imports which improve steel prices as well.

Rising Energy and Ore Prices: Energy and ore prices have continued to increase, threatening

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles ( Uavs ) Essay
Introduction The recent technology in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) also known as drones is
developing its function in providing delivery services for companies. It is a type of aircraft that is
operated by pilots that control it from the ground; this does not require on board crew or passengers.
Through the development of this technology, concerned people lead into tons of issues about this type
of delivery system. The purpose of this report is to provide potential solutions using the application of
the management function, planning. This will cover how planning management function approach will
further progress and resolve the demands of this technology. Drones as Delivery Service Recently,
UAVs served a different purpose. It gained popularity in commercial and private market. A lot of
companies were developing drone technology to serve as a product courier. Some corporations like
Domino s, Amazon and Zookal are having a foresight in using drones to deliver products such as
books, medicines, blood bags, food and other products provided the limitations of size, weight, height
and other capacity factors. The future of drone deliveries will bring benefits to both the company and
consumers. Mainly, this will meet the customer s demand by providing lower cost and time of
delivery. This will benefit the company s marketing strategy especially to online retailer corporations
as more difficult environments are reached in lesser time and effort. Customer satisfaction will get

The Black Of Black Is Ugly
Black is Ugly
Earlier in this century, Italians, Jews, and Rumanians were widely considered to be of different even
inferior racial stock compared to the almost transparently white English, Germans, and Swedes. Just a
few decades later, those groups were fully accepted into the community of whites while Asians,
Latinos, and most of all, African Americans have been reduced because of their darker skin. All over
the world, light/fair skinned people have seemingly been placed on a pedestal while darker skinned
people have been ridiculed, or worse, been considered ugly. Dark skinned inhabitants outnumber the
global population by 3/4ths yet among them there still exists a prevalent notion of white or light

More specifically, African Americans with their traditionally African features have always had an
uneasy coexistence with the European (white) idea of beauty. According to Angela M. Neal and Midge
L. Wilson, Compared to Black males, Black females have been more profoundly affected by the
prejudicial fallout surrounding issues of skin color, facial features, and hair. Such impact can be
attributed in large part to the importance of physical attractiveness for all women .
Colorism
Colorism is the term most commonly used for the phenomenon of non white people discriminating for
and against those who are lighter within their own ethnic groups. Colorism is more specified and
sophisticated strain of racism, which focuses just on superficial aspects of human bodies primarily
skin color. Notion of light skin in the United States of America is an example of a location where
colorism thrives: supremacy is almost automatically associated with lighter complexion, so external
characteristic is an indication of superiority. Colorism, in its simplest definition, is a discrimination
based on the skin tone. Colorism is a more concrete form of racism, which is also defined as
discriminatory treatment of individuals falling within the same racial group on the basis of skin color
(Herring Keith in Yancey, 2004).

i) Background and formation of the issue
According to the UN World Health Organization definition of aging over 65 years as elderly , when
the population of a region or country, the ratio of the elderly more than 7%, referred to as aging
society.
ii) Give evidence to illustrate the influence of the global issue
 The world s population is ageing rapidly. Between 2000 and 2050, the proportion of the world s
older adults is estimated to double from about 11% to 22%. In absolute terms, this is an expected
increase from 605 million to 2 billion people over the age of 60.
iii) 2 Reasons to explain the choice of the global issue
 If the advanced countries the existing retirement protection system is not adjusted, it will pose a

Neo-Noir In Film Noir
According to Todd Erickson, he states that neo noir is a genre exhibits a self consciousness about its
indebtedness to the earlier noir films. Neo noir has emerged notably in the 1980s, with such films like
the 1982 film Blade Runner, that incorporates familiar narrative and stylistic elements from the noir
films into a science fiction genre. With its tone and specific style, Film Noir itself has become one of
the prominent elements from the 1940s and 50s that helped shape the American cinema, and
internationally to a certain extent. Fast forward 1994, an English language French film titled Leon:
The Professional, written and directed by Luc Besson, has been released. It exhibits noir traits from
the characters, their interactions, and the overall environment, but still provides a distinct genre of neo
noir by updating the traits in a contemporary setting.
Leon: The Professional subverts the character expectations with the switch of the characters roles.
Leon and Mathilda can be considered as outsiders, when compared to the characters in traditional film
noir films. When it comes to Leon, the viewers would be asked to identify with the character, but his
character itself would make it difficult for them to do so, since he is a strict hitman. His hitman
character does evoke hitman characters in other noir films such as The Whistler (1944) and New York
Confidential (1955). However, it is after he encounters 12 year old Mathilda for the first time that tests

The Truman Show By Peter Weir Essay
The Truman Show (1998), directed by Peter Weir portrayed a grand metaphor for American culture in
the 90 s. The movie s message to us is that we are stuck in a media landscape full of fantasies that is
catered to the interests of more powerful people. If we want to live an authentic life and be free, we
should put distance between ourselves and the comfort that is our media filled culture. We have to
leave the safety that is the media s grasp and be willing to live in the world the way it actually is. In
the 1990 s, television culture in particular was in full swing. Television is such a powerful tool as it
has the potential to heavily influence our mindsets on topics. The Truman Show showed us an
exaggerated reality of 90 s culture through a utopian/dystopian society in which morals are put aside
for the purpose of a television show. Since its inception in the 1950s, television has become an integral
part of American society. Television has always been a means of entertainment, but it has developed
into something further. Television is a tool that can reflect and nurture values and morals. Throughout
the years, television and our society have had a symbiotic relationship. Our culture influenced
television, while television influenced our society. When The Truman Show came out, it embodied our
media culture from the past, but it also predicted what was to come after the movie was released.
When television networks first came on the scene, they consciously stayed clear from

Weinstein Sexual Harassment
On October 5th, The New York Times released an article revealing sexual harassment allegations
against Harvey Weinstein, in which multiple women, including famous actresses, came forward
accusing Weinstein of sexual assault. On October 8th, the Weinstein Company fired Weinstein, who
later resigned from the company s board on October 17th. Dozens of women in Hollywood have since
come out to speak against Weinstein, including Angelina Jolie and Gwyneth Paltrow with specific

Women should never be forced to face sexual harassment for fear of losing their jobs. The shocking
fact of the entire situation is how well known this secret was in Hollywood. And it begs the question:
how do you separate art from the artist? Harvey Weinstein has produced some of the most
extraordinary films of all time, but that doesn t excuse his actions. Reports of sexual harassment
allegations against men in the film industry are incredibly common these days, but does that mean we
need to completely disregard the films they ve made? It s hard to appreciate someone s work in the
same way after learning about a sexual harassment charge against them, but movies are made by
thousands of people, and should all their work be disregarded because of one person s actions? It s
difficult to find the line at where to judge people, because artists aren t the same as their art, but we
should still acknowledge their past mistakes. While it s terrible that something so horrific had to
happen to bring this to the attention of the media, it brings hope for the future. For the first time,
women are being listened to. People are finally being held accountable for their actions, and while it s
hard to acknowledge that this has been a well kept secret for decades, it s created a community where

1700 s 1900 Advertising has gone through several periods to be developed to the extent that it is today.
Beginning in the 1700 s, the concept of the newspaper began to take hold of the early American
Colonies. It wasn t until 1736 that the concept of advertising became an aspect of newspapers due to
its popularization on the count of Benjamin Franklin. Franklin began to use advertisements to sell
items such as wine and mathematical instruments, and he used his expertise to teach stores to advertise
by utilizing illustrations. With the Stamp Act of 1765, advertising became more relevant than news as

Symbolism In Michael Crichton s Eaters Of The Dead
In his novel, Eaters of the Dead, author Michael Crichton shows how the Volga Northmen were able
to defeat their foes, the wendol, by using their intellect instead of their weapons. This is seen in four
aspects. The theme of the novel is that physical courage is not enough to preserve your culture and
lifestyle: intelligence and superior knowledge are absolutely essential. Conflict between the wendol
and the Northmen shows which group has the intelligence to eliminate the other. Symbolism of
wisdom, knowledge, and the lack of such things are used by Crichton to illustrate this moral. The
juxtaposition of characters emphasizes the cleverness of the Volga Northmen compared to the Venden
Northmen. The theme of the story is that applying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A good use of this device is when Wiglif s friend, Ragnar, challenges Herger, a brave warrior of
Buliwyf s group, to a duel. Although Ragnar is young and much larger and stronger (p. 117) than
Herger, it is Herger who slays Ragnar. This was because Herger has more knowledge of battles and
knows how to win a battle. Ragnar is strong but he has no knowledge or intelligence to create a plan
of attack. Crichton states, Cleverness in battle...is accounted a greater virtue than pure strength in
warriorship (p. 119) and this is true since it is one s cleverness that conjures up a plan to defeat the
opponent. A better use of this is when Wiglif, the son of Rothgar, challenges Buliwyf s ability to
suppress the wendol. Wiglif is a cunning man (p. 71) and is a fox (p. 86) who killed his own brothers
to ensure he gains the title of the throne. Although he is cunning, he is not clever enough to defeat the
wendol himself. At the arrival of Buliwyf, Wiglif insults Buliwyf for fear that Buliwyf will be able to
do what he himself could not. His attempts to outsmart Buliwyf fail every time, showing he is not as
cunning as Buliwyf and he may lose his chance at the throne. Buliwyf displays that he is more
cunning than Wiglif by being the one who actually destroys the mother of the wendol, and his group
makes the wendol leave the settlement. It is because of Buliwyf that Venden is once again

For this psychological disorder analysis paper, I picked the movie American Psycho. American psycho
is a 2000 American Canadian black comedy psychological thriller horror film directed by Mary

by Christian Bale playing the main character and the movie s narrator, Patrick Bateman. The movie

Because I Could Not Stop For Death Housman Analysis
Death is quite scary thought isn t it? After all, it is a subject many people don t like to talk about. We
all fear death in some ways, such as losing a loved one, not knowing if they re still happy and even not
knowing what might come after death. Regardless of how we all feel on such a sad matter, it is truly
inevitable and we must all accept it. If we begin to look at death in a more beautiful way and not so
sinister, we can have a better understanding. In the two poems, Because I Could Not Stop For Death
by Emily Dickinson s and To An Athlete Dying Young by A.E. Housman while the theme differs, they
are much alike in some ways. Emily Dickinson s poem, Because I Could Not Stop For Death gives me
a sense of peace when it comes to death. The theme portrays death as a easy, peaceful ride when one
passes away. The overall metaphor here is comparing death to a carriage ride. She describes death as a
calm person, and she seemed to trust him as he took her through the town to her death, It felt like she
was getting one last ride to say goodbye and let go. The line We slowly drive He knew no haste gives

Housman is very sentimental and really touches me. The theme throughout the poem is clear, that an
athlete well known throughout a seemingly small town passed out. Any one that is a athlete will make
a connection with this poem, because I certainly did. The line And silence no worse than cheers makes
me feel a connection to a person i don t even know, I can imagine the crowd cheering on the person
and how quiet it must be the day he or she dies. Another line from the poem says it withers quicker
than the rose this is metaphor for how the cheerfulness of the town withered away after such a great
loss. The overall theme is very heartbreaking, the complete opposite of how I felt reading Emily
Dickinson s poem. Reading this I really felt like I was a part of the town that lost such a young

guaranteed time and a half for overtime, and prohibited oppressive child labor (Friedrich). These acts
dramatically improved labor conditions. A clear improvement in labor could be seen from before to
after the New Deal labor reform. Americans, during the 1930s, clearly needed help. Too many were
unemployed, struggling, starving, and/or homeless. One of the biggest legacies of the New Deal is that
it combated unemployment with jobs in infrastructure. Many agencies and programs were set up to
help increase America s infrastructure and provide many needy people with jobs. One of those
organizations was the Works Progress Administration. Incredibly, the WPA employed an average of
2.1 million people annually for a total of almost 8 million people. It had become largest New Deal
program and required almost 11 billion dollars to fund it (Friedrich). The WPA was made with one
goal in mind: to get people back to work so they can get money in their pockets to survive. The WPA
built highways, airfields, public buildings, and did rural rehabilitation such as planting trees. In total, it
had built around 110,000 public buildings, 600 airports, 500,000 miles of roads, and 100,000 bridges (
New Deal ). Like the WPA, the Civilian Conservation Corps, had been created to provide jobs, but it
was mainly for younger Americans. This program had employed and put 3

Prince Vs. Warner Brothers: Artist feud with Label
Ryan Willis
Negotiation and Deal Making

In today society different companies go through various contracts on a day to day basis; however, it is
solely up to both companies or parties to ensure that the contract upon entering is in good standing and
there after remains in good binding, As in the case of Prince Vs Warner Brothers. In the beginning it
seems as though the contract was acceptable for both parties, however as the discrepancies unfold, it
became clear that the contract was no longer valid. This created a huge problem for both parties. It has
been observed that the dispute between Prince and Warner Brothers was about money and how often

All his new material that he created after he changed his name, was under his NPG record label. While
he carried out his remaining obligation to Warner Brothers, at every public appearance, Prince
continued to retaliate by writing the word slave on his cheek (Orwall, 1995). For a period of time
prince did not play his own music. Benny Medina, VP of A R for Warner Brothers at the time,
believed that this was apart of his protest against the record label. Prince was a really unique person
who was not going to be very productive if he was not in a healthy place with the people he had to
deal with. We got it; if you want to go, go! Lets just figure it out , said Benny Medina in a BET
documentary video (BET). In 1997 Prince ended his contract with Warner Brothers. In that same year
he released his last album with the Label entitled Emancipation. In the year 2000, after the publishing
contract with Warner Brothers has ended he legally changed his name back to Prince (BET).
Parties Interest
It has always been a tradition for record labels to own the masters of the artist sign to the roster; after
all, they are the ones spending millions of dollars to promote and market, as well as distribute the
artist s music. Evidently, Prince disagreed with this notion. Prince did not like the fact that the labels
were able to decide when his album should be

Zeitgeist Its acquaintance is inevitable so good luck at trying to escape from it. Zeitgeist is the spirit of
the age, as the dictionary defines it to be, but in my own terms it is the paranoia or scream of a given
epoch. For instance, the international fads like high speed Internet, diminutive cell phones that
miraculously slide and fit comfortably in your jean pocket, and convenient photo taking digital
cameras reflect the zeitgeist of many developed countries of the past decade. We see these items all
over place on expressway billboards and during the two minute commercial breaks that disrupt
whatever televised program happens to be on the screen. We even see them in the millions of ads ...

the blob can no longer be stopped for it is everywhere and far out of reach to be confined. Then, for
the first time in human history, hundreds of millions of individual minds were wired together in a

(151) It s unfortunately true. We function in life based on what we have learned from the media. For

This Boy s Life Every year more than 3.6 million referrals are made to child protection agencies
involving more than 6.6 million children, (Child Abuse Statistics, 2017). In This Boy s Life by Tobias
Wolff, we discover the desperate, harsh, and cruel life of a boy named Jack. The novel begins with the
young boy acting out negatively to catch his mother s inattentive eye. He has no one to notice his
behavior, either good or bad. He earnestly desires a place in his mother preoccupied life and spends
his time jockeying for this spot. In this gut wrenching memoir, a young boy named Jack has

In the process, he discovers that lying and writing are kind of the same... and he loves it. Things
finally come to a head with Dwight when he pushes Jack down and Jack lands on an already injured
hand. He lives with the family of a friend for a few months, though his wild ways continue. He and his
friend s drink, stay out late, and steal gas before Jack finally heads to Seattle to be a good little prep
school boy. That, of course, doesn t happen. He spends the summer with his dad, who gets committed
to a lunatic asylum. His mom moves to Washington DC while he goes to prep school, but Dwight
catches up to her and tries to strangle her in their apartment building. It is only after that incident, that
Dwight leaves their lives. Jack doesn t do well in prep school and gets kicked out his senior year.
Mark Twain once said, We are creatures of outside influences we originate nothing within. Whenever
we take a new line of thought and drift into a new line of belief and action, the impulse is always
suggested from the outside. (Twain, Page 09). Tobias Wolff shows in This Boy s Life that Jack is
deeply influenced by outside parties. Some of these notorious groups are his friends which he
repeatedly mirrors their distasteful behavior. Jack is influenced by numerous men within his life, and
not one is the slightest bit respectable. Also, he never takes the reigns on his own life choices. Jack

Kurdistan is a region that has existed in turmoil and is the never was country. The Kurds are the fourth
largest ethnic group of the Middle East, numbering between 20 and 25 million. Approximately 15
million live in the regions of Turkey, Iraq, Iran, and Syria, an area they called Kurdistan, yet they do

Turkey has been a key player against the PKK. Geography, politics and history have conspired to

The Leadership Of Servant Leadership
Unit 2 Journal The second unit Leading by Serving discussed the topic of servant leadership. Through
examples of people from past and present we learned who servant leaders are and what their qualities
and characteristics are. We also learned about the importance of servant leaders in other people s lives
and that being a servant leader is a decision and has nothing to do with our position. In my life there
has always been a group of people who I admired for having something what I described to myself as
an inner light, a special quality when it came to relationships with others. This unit showed me the
secret was often the servant leadership role they play or played in their lives. I realized putting other
peoples needs before mine is not only what I ve been thought to do through my life, but what should
be a priority for me both in my personal life and in my dream of becoming a successful
manager/leader. The great leader is seen as servant first, and that simple fact is the key to his
greatness, says Robert K. Greenleaf in an essay The Servant as Leader in which he explains and
defines servant leadership (Phi Theta Kappa 75). Greenleaf talks about many qualities important for
servant leaders: inter alia, the servant leader is the one who takes the responsibility for both success
and failure, he has the vision, he listens and understands his followers, he always accepts and
empathizes, never rejects and he knows about the love needed for a growth of a healthy

Summary Of To Techers By Rabindranath Tagore
Within the works of, To Techers, by Rabindranath Tagore, the reader is introduced to Tagore s
personal story of why he created his school. Tagore is a man who believed that the current educational
system is poisoning children s minds, due to the lack of creativity the child receives when learning
from non active lectures. Tagore starts by giving his life story of when he was a child. However, He
describes his schooling atmosphere as a type of prison where the only way for him to escape was to
finish learning as soon as possible. Because Tagore had despised the educational system, he had
created his own school, where students would learn in a natural atmosphere. To do this, he
implemented dramatic performances, decorations for the different seasons, and brought in musicians
to play freely amongst the school. Even Tagore had produced his own songs and writings to show his
students the lively atmosphere of school. He believed that schooling should not be a prison, but a way
for many to come together and understand other s in the fullest sense. Tagore had the idea of not a
university, but a meeting place for students of all countries and religions to come together to find
spiritual unity, or as Tagore puts it, I have in mind not merely a University, for that is only one aspect
of our Visva Bharati, but the idea of a great meeting place for individuals from all countries where
men who believe in spiritual unity can come in touch with their neighbors, (Tagore 44). To put it

Grants Pros And Cons
Do you really think grants are a reasonable way to get through life in the states? Some may disagree
with that statement due to the fact they don t use grants as much or don t know of such a thing.
America can truly help with any situation a citizen might face with the help of grants. Citizens may
also deny help from the government due to their funds or careers but it is available to anyone that
discovers or looks into it. They may never get to access them due to a low social status which does not
matter. Grants may be a reasonable way to make it through to most citizens but not many. The ability
to let citizens chose whatever career they want is almost like choosing toppings for their favorite

Art Speigelman Use Symbolism In The Holocaust
Art Speigelman wrote a book called Maus, that explains his father s experience in the holocaust. His
father Vladek Speigelman survived the holocaust. Speigelman Interviews his father everyday to write
his comic book and use symbolism. How does Art Speigelman use symbolism in Maus? The holocaust
was a tragic time for Jews.Germans tortured Jews because they were different and had a different
religion. The holocaust lasted through January 30, 1933 May 8, 1945. Six million Jews were killed in
the Holocaust.Jews were starved and suffered. The word Holocaust came from a greek word meaning
Sacrifice by fire . Art Speigelman wrote the book Maus to explain the events from the holocaust. Art
Speigelman and Vladek Speigelman, his father , had an unusual relationship. In the book Maus Vladek
tries to erase his memories of the holocaust, but Art tries to bring them back so he can write his book
and educate others. Art s father Vladek is unusual .Vladek has been kind ve weird, keeping
everything.Art Speigelman tries to understand his father s ways. The reason why there are stories
about this historical event is because it wouldn t repeat itself and to educate others.Vladek doesn t like
spending money or wasting things; this may be because of the holocaust.
When the Holocaust were beginning , there were a war fixing to start. Germans told the Jews that the
camps were because of the war and they believed it. Later on, Germans were beginning to destroy the
businesses of Jews and putting there flags in towns, that s when the Jews realized what was going on
and it were too late to stop it. Don t you know? All Jewish businesses have been taken over by Aryan
Managers (Speigelman, 76).
If you lock them together in a room with no food for a week then you could see what it is, friends.
(Speigelman, 6). That quote meant as if Jews were starved and wouldn t think about who you were
and are and struggle for survival not caring. Please if you want to stay alive go back inside
(Speigelman, 79). German treated Jews as if they weren t human. And were like bullies to the Jews, if
they didn t do as told they were killed, the Jews. While in the holocaust, Vladek lost many of his

Have supplements and fine tuned dieting given some athletes an edge over others? After merely
decades of research and clinical trials, studies have shown the enormous benefits supplements and
consistent dieting has on an athlete. Supplements like whey protein, creatine, caffeine, and branched
chain amino acids have allowed athletes to surpass limiting plateaus and reach new heights with
respect to physical conditioning and mental awareness. Whey protein provides protein, which is an
important macronutrient that serves as a building block for muscles. Creatine is a relatively new
supplement that allows muscles to utilize more ATP and thus increase the endurance of muscle. Amino

When ingested, complex carbohydrates are broken down within the stomach and absorbed by muscles.
The amount of glycogen stored by a muscle is directly correlated to the amount of work an athlete can
do during a training session3. Glycogen is oxidized by muscles when used3. Once the glycogen stores
within the muscle are depleted, fatigue sets in and hinders the athlete s ability to perform. Therefore,
supplements have been made to provide athletes with carbohydrates that can replenish the glycogen
stores, which allows them to perform past their usual capacity and avoid the effects of fatigue. Fats
play an important role in maintaining the health of joints and major organs, which is why fats are part
of a balanced diet and cannot be neglected. Omega 3 fatty acids protect a person s muscles, joints,
immune system, cardiovascular system, and nervous system.1 An athlete s training is extremely
intense and can damage the joints and muscles over a long period of time, thus, it is important that
athletes consume large amounts of omega 3 fatty acids relative to the average person so that they keep
their muscles and joints in peak condition. Of the three macronutrients listed, protein is the most
important macronutrient as a high protein intake preserves muscle and augments the formation of
more muscle, which is a sought after goal for many athletes.1 Repairing and building more muscle

The Characteristics Of Edgar Allan Poe
Edgar Allan Poe is a well known American poet and writer. He was born on January 19, 1809, in
Boston, Massachusetts but was raised as a foster child in Richmond, Virginia by John and Frances
Allan. His first collection of poems were published in 1827, the same year he moved to Boston and
enlisted in the United States Army. He was influenced by the Romantic literary era at the time but
much of his work is considered as the gothic genre, combining fiction, horror and romance. Many
credit him as the architect of the modern short story and with his focus on the dark side of human
nature, he is also known as the inventor of both the detective story and the horror genre. This work

The narrator describes near death experiences due to hunger and dehydration, the power of mother
nature and how the sea destroyed their ship. Survival instincts forced the crew to resort to cannibalism
for their survival before they finally landed on a tropical island where they were met by natives who
were intimidated by the white skinned strangers. The meeting of the civilized sailors and the
uncivilized natives described very different people who did not trust each other. When the natives
killed most of the sailors, Poe illustrates the similarity and primitive side of all people as they kill for
their own protection and survival. Pym managed to escape the island together with Peters and the
novel ends as they near the South Pole, leaving the conclusion to the imagination of the reader.
Edgar Allan Poe portrayed various themes throughout the novel. However, the main theme that stood
out was that of survival. Arthur Gordon Pym describes in his writings how he managed to stay alive
on board the Grampus after the mutiny that occurred and after the massive storm that nearly destroyed
the ship, tearing the sails, breaking the mast, and flooding the hold. All four men managed to survive
by lashing themselves to the hull. However, they get injured and bereft of food and water, going days
and nights suffering from thirst and starvation wavering between hope and despair. They endure
horrendous sights, such as a Dutch ship manned only by dead, rotting corpses, and the

Essay On College Drinking
College is often a time of discovery. Students learn educationally along with self exploration. Many
students have not experienced living on their own exclusive of parental regulations. This new
responsibility encompasses self accomplishments, self discovery, and life lessons from mistakes.
Students that go to college often participate in drinking, partying, and binge drinking. This behavior is
frequently excused as what is ordinary of college students. Exploration of college student drinking
behaviors have relied profoundly on samples including majority of Europeans Americans along with a
few minorities students. This study concerns Hispanic students as the majority and their involvement
in alcohol consumption. This study s hypothesis was that both men and women s alcohol consumption
could be anticipated based on acculturation. Furthermore, the study estimated that men regularly
ingest more alcohol and participate in binge drinking compared to women. A public university along
the Texas and Mexico border had 309 students volunteer to participate in the study. The total Hispanic
ethnicity students included in the study was 296. The study wanted to use typical college student so

Analysis Of The Jamestown Fiasco
The overpopulated lands of England had gotten word of a Italian man, sailing under the Spanish
crown had discovered land across a rather devoid sea! England knew there was catching up to do and
after a previous failure at Roanoke island the Brits were determined to succeed! Though despite their
high spirits, the New World was harsh and unforgiving, which made the new colony of Jamestown
anything but a success. With countless raids by Native American tribes and the continuing starvation
of the colony, Harvard graduate, author, and United States historian, Edmund Morgan elaborates on
the failure of Jamestown within his work titled The Jamestown Fiasco . The Englishman s encounters
with the Native Americans were almost never mutual or positive. The first encounter with the people
of the new world was a defeat at best, the Native Americans drove the Englishmen back upon the
ships they had come from, but the English were determined that they would be here to stay. They
moved farther down the James River and found a suitable location for settlement. Through poor
leadership, however, brought the true demise of the possible friendly relations between the Natives
and English unlike their French counterparts further north. Innocent Native Americans coming into
Jamestown with food and gifts were often treated like spies and taken hostage by the colonists. This
understandably gave the natives of the region a common goal, it was the English versus them. Though
the first encounter

What to Look For
The system should be visually inspected which means a tower climb or a high resolution drone video
to each of the lighting fixtures all beacons and sidelights. The inspection should look for ultraviolet
(UV) damage, cracks, crazing, dirt buildup, etc. The etc. in this instance could include unwanted
deposits on the outside of the lens (think bird poop as an example), or unwanted deposits on the inside
of the lens. LumenServeâ„  has seen instances where material inside a legacy lighting system, such as
certain types of tape, are vaporized and then deposited on the inside of the lens. This is a result of a
poor installation and must be addressed. Certain older models of lighting lenses are made of older
plastics that are effected by UV rays resulting in crazing. Old glass lenses can chip. The bottom line is
the inspection relies on the reasonable judgement of the inspector to determine if the lens performance
is degraded in some manner and decreasing the system s certified output. No light meter or
measurement is required, just a thorough inspection and reasonable determination of the status of each
lens.
How Often to Inspect

the light fixture fails. Failure of the fixture indicates that the fixture must be repaired and thus makes

Finelli s Bust Of St. Peters Basilica
These three busts of women in the 1600s are exceptionally different than those before this time.
Women portraits in the 1600s have obvious influence from these sculptors, but also lack the focus to
detail and movement. Andrea Bolgi sculpted St. Helen which is housed in St. Peters. The sculpture has
movement expressed through the drapery which is used by Bernini in a copious amount of his
sculptures and Algardi used this in his bust of Olympia Maidalchini Pamphilj. Also in St. Peters
Basilica, Francesco Mochi takes the same approach to his sculpture of St. Veronica. St. Veronica is
portrayed in a dramatic way, with multiple folds in her dress and the cloth with Jesus s face is blowing
in the wind. Taking a page from the book of Bernini, Mochi ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

He adds a story to his portrait, and has intense detailed style to the face of the sitter without losing
beauty and passion. Finelli s bust is elegantly beautiful, but is not done natural. Finelli fails to focus on
anything about his sitters face which leaves her looking like just another wealthy woman with no
depth to her. Algardi adds detail to the face of his sitter, but instead of portraying at her best moment,
takes a naturalistic approach which makes the portrait unflattering. Bernini added detail needed, but
still managed to make the portrait look like the best version of the sitter. Although, this may represent
the beauty of the sitter more than the skill of the artist. Bernini, Algardi, and Finelli are all infatuated
with detail, this is what makes their portraits stand out from all of the others. These are some of the
first portraits of woman sculpted, and it is fitting to the time that the focus on detail is used on
accessories or sexuality. The artists focus on detail, but each to different parts of their works to create
different qualities. Finelli has fine detail to accessories, and intrinsic drill work. While Bernini is at the
other spectrum, detail to face but faster drill work, and Algardi falls in the middle of this. Bernini,
Algardi, and Finelli are all well respected and each bring their own unique style to baroque period, but
Bernini goes above and beyond. Bernini s

Reproductive Rights And Human Rights
Reproductive Rights Are Human Rights In 1973, the US Supreme Court declared abortion a
nationwide fundamental right through a trial called Roe vs. Wade and protected this right underneath
the Fourteenth Amendment, more specifically, the right to privacy. A basic human right, especially one
outlined by the Supreme Court, must never run at risk or threat chiefly because not everyone agrees
with it. Under no circumstances should a pregnancy ever adjudge mandatory. Abortion is a
Constitutional right and as a nation we must fight to give the right and freedom of safe abortions to
women all around the nation, make birth control and sex education accessible to women, and raise
awareness about the topic itself. (LawCornell)
In the United States, per year, twenty million unsafe abortions and sixty eight thousand deaths from
them occur, (Odyssey) while the average death risk for a safe abortion is less than .01 percent. An
illegal and unsafe abortion should never result as the last resort, but it tends to because of a lack of
access to safe ones. Morals, usually drawn from religious beliefs, tend to play a part in one s opinion
towards abortion. More than three fourths of Americans consider themselves as Christians. This means
that more than three fourths of Americans believe that it is morally wrong to undergo an abortion and
a person should not hold the right to take someone else s life away. While a moral belief, based on
religion, is something all people are free to have,

  • 2. Beanbag Project Research Paper Project title Original? Why? Was it difficult to solve? Consider access to knowledge, problems to solve, resources needed What real life problem did it solve? The Beanbag Project This experiment is quite original as many people just use bean bags without even thinking about how many beans are used inside of them. I haven t heard of any other experiments testing the same thing, so to me I think that this experiment is unique. This experiment doesn t seem very difficult to solve, as the main thing that you have to do is test other people s thoughts. The resource which would be needed would be beanbags with different amount of beans in them, which may have been difficult cost wise. This means that Sam s experiment is original as it most likely hasn t been done before where someone has come up with a different conclusion. This experiment may have been difficult to solve if the person conducting the experiment didn t either have chickens at their house or have access to someone else s backyard chickens. He would also have to take into consideration that the experiment might not be a fair test as some of the chickens may be fed more, making their eggs bigger. A real life problem is the weight of chicken eggs, and how some are very light and some are quite heavy in comparison. This could also solve the problem of knowing when chickens will lay eggs which weigh a different amount. This could also lead someone on to conduct an experiment which shows the type of food which chickens eat to make their eggs lose less weight. It would mean that the owners of the chickens could know when to stop eating their eggs and just enjoy them as their pets, or could label their eggs either light or heavy. Selecting your own ... The industry which Nucor operates can be described using the external analysis tools PEST, Porter s Five Forces and Major Strategic Groups. Environmental Analysis PEST Political State Tax Breaks: In the U.S., when a manufacturing firm is looking for a new location to set up operations, there is a large incentive for local governments to offer large tax credits towards the organization in order to entice them to locate within their region. This is because the jobs that a manufacturing plant brings greatly improve the prosperity of the region. An example of the tax breaks available is when Nucor opened a steel mill in North Carolina costing $300 Million, Hertford County offered Nucor $155 Million in tax breaks to bring 300 jobs to the region. Anti Dumping Tariffs: During the early 2000 s, U.S. Steel prices were plummeting to 20 year lows and all but the two largest manufacturers were posting losses. In 2001, Bush posted anti dumping tariffs in order to protect the US steel industry from bankruptcy. While this upset the World Trade Organization, steel prices began to recover in 2002 and 2003 until Bush withdrew the tariff. In addition, China imposed their own three year tariff on Imports which improve steel prices as well. Economic Rising Energy and Ore Prices: Energy and ore prices have continued to increase, threatening integrated mill producers. In addition, U.S. steel scrap prices have been increasing, affecting mini mill producers the same. With these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Black Of Black Is Ugly Black is Ugly Earlier in this century, Italians, Jews, and Rumanians were widely considered to be of different even inferior racial stock compared to the almost transparently white English, Germans, and Swedes. Just a few decades later, those groups were fully accepted into the community of whites while Asians, Latinos, and most of all, African Americans have been reduced because of their darker skin. All over the world, light/fair skinned people have seemingly been placed on a pedestal while darker skinned people have been ridiculed, or worse, been considered ugly. Such impact can be attributed in large part to the importance of physical attractiveness for all women . Colorism Colorism is the term most commonly used for the phenomenon of non white people discriminating for and against those who are lighter within their own ethnic groups. Colorism is more specified and sophisticated strain of racism, which focuses just on superficial aspects of human bodies primarily skin color. Notion of light skin in the United States of America is an example of a location where colorism thrives: supremacy is almost automatically associated with lighter complexion, so external characteristic is an indication of superiority. Colorism, in its simplest definition, is a discrimination based on the skin tone. Colorism is a more concrete form of racism, which is also defined as discriminatory treatment of individuals falling within the same racial group on the basis of skin color (Herring Keith in Yancey, 2004). • 10. Neo-Noir In Film Noir According to Todd Erickson, he states that neo noir is a genre exhibits a self consciousness about its indebtedness to the earlier noir films. Neo noir has emerged notably in the 1980s, with such films like the 1982 film Blade Runner, that incorporates familiar narrative and stylistic elements from the noir films into a science fiction genre. With its tone and specific style, Film Noir itself has become one of the prominent elements from the 1940s and 50s that helped shape the American cinema, and internationally to a certain extent. Fast forward 1994, an English language French film titled Leon: The Professional, written and directed by Luc Besson, has been released. It exhibits noir traits from the characters, their interactions, and the overall environment, but still provides a distinct genre of neo noir by updating the traits in a contemporary setting. Leon: The Professional subverts the character expectations with the switch of the characters roles. Leon and Mathilda can be considered as outsiders, when compared to the characters in traditional film noir films. When it comes to Leon, the viewers would be asked to identify with the character, but his character itself would make it difficult for them to do so, since he is a strict hitman. His hitman character does evoke hitman characters in other noir films such as The Whistler (1944) and New York Confidential (1955). • 12. The Truman Show By Peter Weir Essay The Truman Show (1998), directed by Peter Weir portrayed a grand metaphor for American culture in the 90 s. The movie s message to us is that we are stuck in a media landscape full of fantasies that is catered to the interests of more powerful people. If we want to live an authentic life and be free, we should put distance between ourselves and the comfort that is our media filled culture. We have to leave the safety that is the media s grasp and be willing to live in the world the way it actually is. In the 1990 s, television culture in particular was in full swing. Television is such a powerful tool as it has the potential to heavily influence our mindsets on topics. The Truman Show showed us an exaggerated reality of 90 s culture through a utopian/dystopian society in which morals are put aside for the purpose of a television show. Since its inception in the 1950s, television has become an integral part of American society. Television has always been a means of entertainment, but it has developed into something further. Television is a tool that can reflect and nurture values and morals. Throughout the years, television and our society have had a symbiotic relationship. Our culture influenced television, while television influenced our society. When The Truman Show came out, it embodied our media culture from the past, but it also predicted what was to come after the movie was released. Reports of sexual harassment allegations against men in the film industry are incredibly common these days, but does that mean we need to completely disregard the films they ve made? Symbolism In Michael Crichton s Eaters Of The Dead In his novel, Eaters of the Dead, author Michael Crichton shows how the Volga Northmen were able to defeat their foes, the wendol, by using their intellect instead of their weapons. This is seen in four aspects. The theme of the novel is that physical courage is not enough to preserve your culture and lifestyle: intelligence and superior knowledge are absolutely essential. Conflict between the wendol and the Northmen shows which group has the intelligence to eliminate the other. Symbolism of wisdom, knowledge, and the lack of such things are used by Crichton to illustrate this moral. Ragnar is strong but he has no knowledge or intelligence to create a plan of attack. Crichton states, Cleverness in battle...is accounted a greater virtue than pure strength in warriorship (p. 119) and this is true since it is one s cleverness that conjures up a plan to defeat the opponent. A better use of this is when Wiglif, the son of Rothgar, challenges Buliwyf s ability to suppress the wendol. Wiglif is a cunning man (p. 71) and is a fox (p. 86) who killed his own brothers to ensure he gains the title of the throne. • 18. Because I Could Not Stop For Death Housman Analysis Death is quite scary thought isn t it? After all, it is a subject many people don t like to talk about. We all fear death in some ways, such as losing a loved one, not knowing if they re still happy and even not knowing what might come after death. Regardless of how we all feel on such a sad matter, it is truly inevitable and we must all accept it. If we begin to look at death in a more beautiful way and not so sinister, we can have a better understanding. In the two poems, Because I Could Not Stop For Death by Emily Dickinson s and To An Athlete Dying Young by A.E. Housman while the theme differs, they are much alike in some ways. Emily Dickinson s poem, Because I Could Not Stop For Death gives me a sense of peace when it comes to death. The theme portrays death as a easy, peaceful ride when one passes away. The overall metaphor here is comparing death to a carriage ride. Another line from the poem says it withers quicker than the rose this is metaphor for how the cheerfulness of the town withered away after such a great loss. The 1930s was a time of great economic depression; in response the New Deal was FDR s plan for America s recovery. By 1933, when FDR took office, one in four Americans was unemployed. Furthermore, there was widespread hunger, malnutrition, overcrowding, and poor health. The New Deal was made to combat these tragic conditions and it did so through the means of welfare and government intervention. Indeed, the New Deal was a radical change to the way America had ... Too many were unemployed, struggling, starving, and/or homeless. One of the biggest legacies of the New Deal is that it combated unemployment with jobs in infrastructure. Many agencies and programs were set up to help increase America s infrastructure and provide many needy people with jobs. One of those organizations was the Works Progress Administration. Incredibly, the WPA employed an average of 2.1 million people annually for a total of almost 8 million people. It had become largest New Deal program and required almost 11 billion dollars to fund it (Friedrich). The WPA was made with one goal in mind: to get people back to work so they can get money in their pockets to survive. The WPA built highways, airfields, public buildings, and did rural rehabilitation such as planting trees. In total, it had built around 110,000 public buildings, 600 airports, 500,000 miles of roads, and 100,000 bridges ( New Deal ). Through examples of people from past and present we learned who servant leaders are and what their qualities and characteristics are. We also learned about the importance of servant leaders in other people s lives and that being a servant leader is a decision and has nothing to do with our position. In my life there has always been a group of people who I admired for having something what I described to myself as an inner light, a special quality when it came to relationships with others. This unit showed me the secret was often the servant leadership role they play or played in their lives. I realized putting other peoples needs before mine is not only what I ve been thought to do through my life, but what should be a priority for me both in my personal life and in my dream of becoming a successful manager/leader. The great leader is seen as servant first, and that simple fact is the key to his greatness, says Robert K. Greenleaf in an essay The Servant as Leader in which he explains and defines servant leadership (Phi Theta Kappa 75). Greenleaf talks about many qualities important for servant leaders: inter alia, the servant leader is the one who takes the responsibility for both success and failure, he has the vision, he listens and understands his followers, he always accepts and empathizes, never rejects and he knows about the love needed for a growth of a healthy ... Tagore is a man who believed that the current educational system is poisoning children s minds, due to the lack of creativity the child receives when learning from non active lectures. Tagore starts by giving his life story of when he was a child. However, He describes his schooling atmosphere as a type of prison where the only way for him to escape was to finish learning as soon as possible. Because Tagore had despised the educational system, he had created his own school, where students would learn in a natural atmosphere. To do this, he implemented dramatic performances, decorations for the different seasons, and brought in musicians to play freely amongst the school. Even Tagore had produced his own songs and writings to show his students the lively atmosphere of school. He believed that schooling should not be a prison, but a way for many to come together and understand other s in the fullest sense. Tagore had the idea of not a university, but a meeting place for students of all countries and religions to come together to find spiritual unity, or as Tagore puts it, I have in mind not merely a University, for that is only one aspect of our Visva Bharati, but the idea of a great meeting place for individuals from all countries where men who believe in spiritual unity can come in touch with their neighbors, (Tagore 44). The meeting of the civilized sailors and the uncivilized natives described very different people who did not trust each other. When the natives killed most of the sailors, Poe illustrates the similarity and primitive side of all people as they kill for their own protection and survival. Pym managed to escape the island together with Peters and the novel ends as they near the South Pole, leaving the conclusion to the imagination of the reader. Though despite their high spirits, the New World was harsh and unforgiving, which made the new colony of Jamestown anything but a success. With countless raids by Native American tribes and the continuing starvation of the colony, Harvard graduate, author, and United States historian, Edmund Morgan elaborates on the failure of Jamestown within his work titled The Jamestown Fiasco . The Englishman s encounters with the Native Americans were almost never mutual or positive. The first encounter with the people of the new world was a defeat at best, the Native Americans drove the Englishmen back upon the ships they had come from, but the English were determined that they would be here to stay. They moved farther down the James River and found a suitable location for settlement. Through poor leadership, however, brought the true demise of the possible friendly relations between the Natives and English unlike their French counterparts further north. • 45. Finelli s Bust Of St. Peters Basilica These three busts of women in the 1600s are exceptionally different than those before this time. Women portraits in the 1600s have obvious influence from these sculptors, but also lack the focus to detail and movement. Andrea Bolgi sculpted St. Helen which is housed in St. Peters. The sculpture has movement expressed through the drapery which is used by Bernini in a copious amount of his sculptures and Algardi used this in his bust of Olympia Maidalchini Pamphilj. Also in St. Peters Basilica, Francesco Mochi takes the same approach to his sculpture of St. Veronica. Finelli s bust is elegantly beautiful, but is not done natural. Finelli fails to focus on anything about his sitters face which leaves her looking like just another wealthy woman with no depth to her. Algardi adds detail to the face of his sitter, but instead of portraying at her best moment, takes a naturalistic approach which makes the portrait unflattering. Bernini added detail needed, but still managed to make the portrait look like the best version of the sitter. Although, this may represent the beauty of the sitter more than the skill of the artist. • 46. Reproductive Rights And Human Rights Reproductive Rights Are Human Rights In 1973, the US Supreme Court declared abortion a nationwide fundamental right through a trial called Roe vs. Wade and protected this right underneath the Fourteenth Amendment, more specifically, the right to privacy. A basic human right, especially one outlined by the Supreme Court, must never run at risk or threat chiefly because not everyone agrees with it. Under no circumstances should a pregnancy ever adjudge mandatory. Abortion is a Constitutional right and as a nation we must fight to give the right and freedom of safe abortions to women all around the nation, make birth control and sex education accessible to women, and raise awareness about the topic itself. (LawCornell) In the United States, per year, twenty million unsafe abortions and sixty eight thousand deaths from them occur, (Odyssey) while the average death risk for a safe abortion is less than .01 percent. An illegal and unsafe abortion should never result as the last resort, but it tends to because of a lack of access to safe ones. Morals, usually drawn from religious beliefs, tend to play a part in one s opinion towards abortion. More than three fourths of Americans consider themselves as Christians. This means that more than three fourths of Americans believe that it is morally wrong to undergo an abortion and a person should not hold the right to take someone else s life away. While a moral belief, based on religion, is something all people are free to have, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
