Factors that Caused the Demographic and Economic Decline...
In 2013, Americans witnessed a slowly sinking ship finally submerge. Once a bustling urban center
rife with economic prosperity, the city of Detroit, Michigan filed for the largest municipal
bankruptcy case in U.S history on July 18, 2013 (Fletcher, 2013). Over recent decades, Detroit has
been the victim of both economic and demographic decay. To put the magnitude of the city s
desolation in perspective, during the middle of the twentieth century, the city s population was
approximately 1,850,000, making it, at the time, the fifth most populous city in the nation. As of
2013 census data, however, the city has dropped to the eighteenth most populous city, with a
population of 701,000, the lowest it has been since the 1910s when the city... Show more content on

By examining the relationship between the fall of the city s industry chiefly the automotive industry
and racial conflict, this essay serves to highlight the factors that caused both the demographic and
economic decline of Detroit in regards to Marxist theory. Karl Marx (1818 1883) was a German
sociologist and philosopher renowned for his analyses of political economy. According to his
theories, capitalism is dependent on exploitation. That is, the working class (the proletariat)
works for the owning class (the bourgeoisie), but rather than receive a compensation equivalent to
its actual labor, or production value, the working class is underpaid, with a surplus, or profit,
pouring into the pockets of the owners. Although the proletariat receives the short end of the
stick, so to speak, its members are forced to sell labor power to the bourgeoisie in order to receive
wages necessary for survival. Thus, conflict between the owners and workers, known as mutual
antagonism, is inherit in the capitalist system, as workers fight for higher wages and shorter
working days while owners attempt to combat these demands to maximize profit. Marx s theory of
history, known as dialectical materialism, is focused on the notion that societies evolve through a

Gonerial s characterization is mean. The best soundest of his time hath been but rash; then we must

Reflective Account On Health And Social Life
As part of my Graded Unit, I am required to submit an account of the activity which I had chosen
to participate in with a resident from my HNC placement. This is known as the development stage,
a detailed description of the events which took place in relation to the planning stage which was
submitted on the 19th of March 2017, the development stage will be submitted on the 20th of April
2017.
On the 22nd of March 2017 it was agreed with my mentor from within my placement, and Mr X
that a recreational activity would take place, an outing to a local pub which would take place on
Friday the 7th of April 2017. This outing would require me to plan a timescale and organise when
transport should be arranged to allow this trip to take place as planned, risk assess resources
required and assist during the outing. Mr X is the resident which I will be taking part in this activity
with as previously stated in the planning stage. A verified record of the completed activity has been
signed and will be attached to this development stage for submission.
On Tuesday the 4th of April 2017 transport was arranged with a local taxi firm, (which the care

Criticism Of The Virgin Mary
Virgin Mary is a very influential woman in Christianity, particularly in the Roman Catholic sect.
She is an example of what all women should strive to become. Historically, Mary has been viewed
as a controversial figure in feminist culture. However, the Virgin Mary should truly be considered a
feminist icon.
Many may argue that Mary is a passive character, whose only use was as a vessel. There is,
however, substantial evidence that this is completely untrue. There are many different scenarios in
the Bible that highlight Mary s strength. For example, one of the first encounters with Mary shows
readers her resilience.
In the sixth month of Elizabeth s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in
Galilee, 27 to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The
virgin s name was Mary. 28 The angel went to her and said, Greetings, you who are highly
favored! The Lord is with you.
29 Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. 30
But the angel said to her, Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. 31 You will
conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called
the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, 33 and he
will reign over Jacob s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.
34 How will this be, Mary asked the angel, since I am a virgin?
35 The angel answered,

Three Cups Of Tea Analysis
Three Cups of Tea
Mian Muhammad Mansha a Pakistani entrepreneur once said Terrorism is partly linked to people
who have no jobs in Pakistan. Rural regions with a dearth amount of education are later on coerced
into the Taliban, because of the lack of jobs available for the extent of education the population has.
Three Cups of Tea, co written by Dr. Greg Mortenson and David Relin shows Mortenson s personal
journeys with building schools in Pakistan, which prevented young Pakistani males from joining
the terrorist groups. The author writes in elements that makes society aware of the harsh conditions
Pakistani children go through, to go to school. He uses credibility, factual, and emotionally arousing
elements to make the audience sympathize for the kids that are in poverty.

Mortenson himself in the Pakistani village was appalled to see eighty two children, seventy eight
boys and four girls...kneeling on the frozen ground, out in the open (31). The author shows the
amount of children in one village that wants an education, to be willing to stand in harsh
environment just to get an education. In addition, shows how severe the lack of school buildings
and appropriate educators is for those poverty struck children. Determined, he came to a wealthy
former mountain climber comparable to himself to ask for a donation for any contribution of the
twelve thousand dollars...it would take [him] to complete the school (55). The cost to build the
school could be compared to a slap in the face to him when he calculated the expense to solve the
problem. The fact that it costs twelve thousand dollars to decrease the amount of power the Taliban

he used facts, to justify the logic for making his big

Madness Theme In Hamlet
Hamlet s Madness
There are a variety of different themes that are shown within the play Hamlet . These themes vary
from death to obsession and also betrayal, all of which contribute in some manner to encourage
Hamlet s madness. In every theme, the audience can somewhat relate on a level both back in the
day and in contemporary times as death, obsession and betrayal are common entities, well known
today and will continue to be known and understood until the end of time. There are many themes
that reoccur, all of which relate back to Hamlet s madness, specifically including death, obsession,
and betrayal. It has been rumored that Hamlet, the play in this case, is a perfect combo of internal
and external forces. Hamlet experiences turmoil, based not only on his inner mental state, but also
on the external circumstances of both the murder of his father committed jointly by his mother and
the constant spying on him by Claudius and Polonius. In this case, Hamlet mostly likely is just
suffering from some mild paranoia..
Hamlet seem to think about suicide throughout the course of the play more than the average
person would. Hamlet is trying to avoid and not to be subjected to the inevitable heartache that
is simply a part of life, and by wishing to not have to tolerate pain, shows why his wish is to die.
At the end, Hamlet has apparently made the decision that he would rather die, but if only he
were not afraid of what would come after death. This also reflects Hamlet s depression in that he
would constantly think about death and suicide. The question remains as to whether or not this
is madness. It is possible that because he debats about suicide in a very real and serious way, it
could possibly be thought of as madness as it is not a thought that any normal person would ever
have. Instead, a normal person could see issues in life that need to be dealt with instead of run
away from which could have been what Hamlet was doing/trying to do. Madness is all over this
possibility of death because most individuals will never truly contemplate taking their own life in
any normal circumstances.
Hamlet can be said to be truly mentally ill in some cases. At the same time, he resents and hates his
mother for killing his

Comparing Canterbury Tales And The Pardoner s Tale
In The Canterbury Tales, the Host tells the pilgrims he will be grading their tales based on two
factors: moral education and entertainment value. Moral education comprises a lifelong process
which growth in responsibility and freedom. The two tales that must be decided between are
The Knight s Tale and The Pardoner s Tale, both tales were spectacular; however, The Knight s
Tale best incorporates moral education and entertainment value. The Knight s Tale has a good
interpretation on moral education that comes from Arcite and Palamon falling in love with the
same woman, Emily. The Knight s Tale also has a good interpretation on entertainment based
upon the whole story as a whole as an action/romance type story. Moral education is influenced
by many different agencies in society. In The Knight s Tale, one can see how moral education is
interpreted based upon Arcite and Palamon both falling in love with Emily at the same time.
Palamon and Arcite are cousins and brothers by knighthood; they were taken as prisoners of war
by Duke Theseus in Athens, never to be released. On one morning in the month of May, Palamon
sees Emily and instantly falls in love with her, and wakes Arcite up with his cries of woe. When

After hearing what they were fighting about, Theseus prepares a tournament and the winner gets
Emily. As the tournament begins, Theseus sets some rules, the biggest being that no one gets
killed. As the tournament finally ends, Palamon is defeated and Arcite wins Emily. However, his
victory does not last, Arcite is soon bucked off his horse and pitched upon his head. His breast
was shattered by the saddle bow. A short time later, Arcite dies; Palamon is overcome with so
much grief, dread, and sadness he wishes they never let Emily come between them. This is a very

Cawdor, exhibits qualities expected of a noble warrior who is loyal to his king. Through the
manipulations and badgering of Lady Macbeth, Macbeth s good qualities begin to disappear and
his evil ones emerge. The comparison between Act 1 and Act 5 unveils Macbeth s ambitions and
greed for power as being congruent with the decline of his few good personality qualities, such as
bravery and loyalty. At the start of the play and before the visit by the witches, characteristics, such

Accuracy Of Gladiator
Gladiator is an epic historical action drama set in the Roman Empire during the reign of
Commodus, the last emperor of the Nerva Antonine dynasty. The film is directed by Ridley Scott
and features big name actors such as Russel Crowe, Joaquin Phoenix, and the late Richard Harris.
In brief the story of Gladiatorcenters Maximus Decimus Meridius (Russel Crowe), a betrayed
Roman General who is forced into becoming a gladiator. Maximus fights his way from a lowly
arena on the outskirts of the empire, to the Colosseum at Rome with the goal of killing the
emperor Commodus, avenging the murder of his family. In terms of their social status, the film
portrays gladiators as a mix of slaves, prisoners, and professional athletes. The gladiators are the
property of a Roman citizen, most seemed to be there against their will, and yet they could
achieve massive popular approval and support like a professional athlete of today. Maximus s
relationship with the crowd is an important plot point, showing the necessity of a gladiator in
getting the approval of the masses to better ensure their survival. The film projects gladiators...

This is for many reasons, some sensible, and some not so much. If this film presented a completely
accurate presentation of gladiators, the film might not have been able to connect with its audience,
resulting in decreased profitability. Also, including historically inaccurate imagery, such as the
imperial thumb signals in the Colosseum, helps the audience foster a better connection to the film.
At the same time though, including blatant historical inaccuracies gives a false representation of
the gladiators and Roman society, diluting the collective human conscious with falsehoods about
the past. Although not historically accurate, Gladiator is well made and features many
praiseworthy performances, making the film certainly worth a

Time, Life, and God in John Milton s Poetry Essay
Time, Life, and God in John Milton s Poetry
John Milton s poems, How Soon Hath Time and When I Consider How My Light Is Spent both
focus on life and how the time we are given is or should be spent. Milton uses the word How in
both the titles and I cant help but wonder Is there something to examine there? How by itself is a
question of is it possible, and if so then what needs to be done to make it possible. It, in this case is
time: Is time possible or better yet, is it possible to stop time? If so then how will it be
accomplished? What needs to happen to cause time to stop? Milton uses the speaker in this poem to
explain a way of looking at time and how quickly time really does fly by. In these two poems the
speakers refer to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The dictionary refers to time as, A nonspatial continuum in which events occur in apparently
irreversible succession from the past through the present to the future. (Dictionary). Apparently
irreversible , this statement is interesting because using the word apparently still leaves some
room for question. Word does that mean? Does that mean we can change time or the events that
have occurred in that time? Milton doesn t seem to think that is possible. Because Milton further
emphasizes his point when in the first line he personifies time but this time referring to time as
the thief of youth, which reflects somewhat of a bitter tone because time has passed so quickly.
This personification the thief if youth also parallels and agrees with the dictionary definition of
time, the fact that time is irreversible. It appears to the reader that the speaker is very bitter about
time passing so quickly and perhaps he feels as if his time has been stolen from him.
However, the writer in line twelve also refers to time as a leader, which reflects a tone of
acceptance toward time and his fate. This tone is different from the tone at the beginning of the
poem. The speaker has changed his tone and it seems as if this tone change has occurred because
the speaker is considering how he believes his short time should be spent.

The Scientific Revolution
The Scientific Revolution revolutionized the middle ages. The concepts of secularization, scientific
method, heliocentrism, as well as the creation of major fields of science. The Scientific Revolution
paved the way for modern science. Much of the work that created during the sixteenth and
seventeenth century is still considered to be the foundation of many major fields such as chemistry,
physics, astronomy and biology. During the revolution, sciencebegan to be excepted by both the
Protestant and the Catholic churches. Matter of fact, science was encouraged by the church.
However, the church had control over the scientist and would commonly censor individuals that

Rewards And Punishment At School Learning
In order to understand whether rewards and punishment operate as similar factors an experiment
was designed. Subjects underwent an auditory task where they had to mark down answers on an
answer sheet. Answers marked down showed that punishment had a greater effect on behavior.
Once analyzed, the results showed that punishment and reward do not have a symmetric law of
effect. In fact, giving a punishment had a stronger effect on behavior than giving a reward.
Introduction A staggering twelve years is spent in school learning about a variety of pertinent
subjects. Teachers, the people that work in these learning institutes have used both reward and
punishment to guide behavior. For instance, some teachers offer a prize to whoever gets the highest
score on a test. While others choose to take away free time to those who do poorly on a test. All
those programs are put in place with the goal of improving performance. Unfortunately, not all
systems are successful. In fact, some are incredibly more effective than others. Perhaps, the
consequences of a behavior dictate the outcomes next time. The question posed by this is, Do
punishment and reward operate as distinct factors in influencing behavior? It may seem that gaining
something and losing something of the same value has the same effect on behavior. Surprisingly,
that is not the case. Humans tend to be more mindful of being stripped of an object than gaining
possession of that object. Completely encapsulating that thought is

we question how we got here? Jean M. Twenge and W. Keith Campbell, authors of The Narcissism
Epidemic, have compiled enticing and compelling evidence for the development of culturally
accepted narcissism. According to the two, there are more narcissists than ever; even non
narcissistic people are being seduced by cultural emphasis on material wealth, physical
appearance, and celebrity gossip (Twenge Campbell, 2009, pp. 1 2). Standards have shifted,
trapping otherwise humble people into believing societies standards for success. Twenge and

purpose and suited the job well. ?Their usual gear consisted of a bridle, saddle, rawhide lariat,

had a woolen or cotton shirt, tight woolen pants and handkerchief. All of the clothing accessories
were chosen for their usefulness. For example, ?A high crowned, broad brimmed felt hat, the

his face by shielding it from the sun and preventing dust from entering his mouth. The tight pants

a cowboy wore were essential to life and they always used these things. A cowboy?s job mainly
involved the rounding up of cattle and driving the cattle to the destinations designated by the ranch

This relates the end of the novel back to the start. Another connection between the finish and
start of the novel is that at the last paragraph states, Clara wrote them so they would help me

Tribute Speech to Steve Jobs
Tribute Speech to Steve Jobs
Steve Jobs was like the Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell and the Albert Einstein of our
time. He not only innovated personal computing, but personal media and communication, iTunes
which became one of the most popular music and video retailers and Pixar which was one of his
side projects had become one of the greatest animation digital movie creators and software. But
all that is a just part of the list of his legacy, because in the end he still left behind Apple which is
world s most valuable company, which is valued at $350 Billion Dollars. Without Steve Jobsgreat

Other innovations included an optical disk drive instead of floppy disks, and a special sound chip
to provide the fidelity of a compact disc. Judging from initial reactions, many critics were convinced
that Steve Jobs had brought another revolutionary product to American consumers. Despite the
warm reception, however, the NeXT machine never caught on. It was too costly, had a black and
white screen, and couldn t be linked to other computers or run common software. So therefore it
failed.
NeXT was not, however, the end of Steve Jobs. (Change Slide) In 1986, Jobs paid filmmaker
George Lucas $10 million for a small firm called Pixar that specialized in computer animation.
Over the next six years Jobs poured another $40 million of his own money into the company.
That film was Toy Story, a huge box office hit. The share price climbed dramatically, and Job s
80 percent stock in Pixar suddenly was worth $1 billion. (Just a little better than the power balls
don t you think). In December of 1996, Apple announced that it was purchasing Next Software
for over $400 million. (Change Slide) Jobs returned to Apple as a part time consultant to CEO
Gilbert Amelio. In September of 1997, Jobs was named temporary CEO of Apple while a
replacement for Amelio was found. (Change Slide) Introduced in May 1998, it was Apple s first
truly ground breaking product since the original Macintosh of 1984. The design innovations for the
iMac continued throughout 1998 and 1999 with

The insurance claim begins when the patient makes the call to a health care provider s office and
requests an appointment. moreover, the administrative staff must determine if the person is a new

Executive Summary:
Objective:
The objective of our senior project is to develop portable lab equipment and software interface for
first year college students. The idea of our project is to allow portability and convenience for
students to perform basic electronic labs at home. It is meant as a learning tool to generate a

Future Expansion:
This project could also include a multimeter and curve tracer. It could also be improved by having
a higher voltage and a better regulated power supply. The function generator could also have higher
bandwidth and frequency.
Cost:
Estimated total cost is $316. Introduction:
When we visualized our senior project, we decided that engineering and electronic students in
college could make use of portable, inexpensive, simple equipment in order to demonstrate concepts
off campus. This equipment would not necessarily have all of the functionality and versatility of
the lab equipment, but it would be useful in demonstrating concepts. The current lab equipment is
great for school, but if students have a need to use the equipment at home such as to finish labs,
learn more, or just hobby use, they are left without an inexpensive alternative with the equipment
currently on the market. Our solution was to address these issues with our project which we
named Lab In A Box. This would allow students to have a portable oscilloscope, power supply, and
function generator at a greatly reduced cost. The labs performed usually only requires low
bandwidth and low voltage equipment. The power supplies in the labs are DC with the capability
of +6V and В±25V. The function generator is a 15MHz waveform generator that is capable of sine,
square, triangle, and saw tooth waveforms. The

Comparing Grey s Anatomy And The Heart
Grey s Anatomy is the longest running series medical drama due to its immense popularity. Since
2005, it has successfully pulled in a maximum audience of approximately 37.88 million viewers on
The American Broadcasting Company television network ( Rating History: Grey s Anatomy ). It
provides a first person perspective into the dramatic everyday life of the main character, Meredith
Grey, throughout her experiences as a surgeon in a scandalous hospital. This drama is most
popular because of the aspects besides the accurate medical implications such as sexual
relationships, glorified surgeries, and lack of regard for the medical code of ethics. Grey s
Anatomy romanticizes and the medical profession in a manner similar to The Heart most
prominently displayed during the scenes discussing the fate of the deceased boy s organs and the
unprofessional nature of the nurses.

Is America A Beautiful Country
Some might say that America is a beautiful country, and that it is filled with freedom and hard
work, but is it truly? After some quick research, I have come to disagree. Even though we are a
powerful country, we seem to be divided amongst our people by some particular reasons. After
some further research, I have come to conclude that these reasons are;Political problems, unhealthy
food, and the fact that other countries have what we have. You may be thinking, How would this
cause someone to leave the country, and how could some of these reasons separate us as a country?
Well, I think so for these particular reasons.
Starting off, it is a known fact that politics affect everyday life. So if you have political
problems, than it is going to have a negative impact on everyday life. Not only that, but it covers
such broad aspect of life, and will affect almost EVERY SINGLE PART OF EVERYDAY LIFE.
To give an example, if there are bias and inequality in politics, it will definitely affect the people on
the other end of the sword. Ironically, this does happen, through racism, and mistreatment of the
LGBTQ s. Racism has been a thing in America ever since our freedom from England. From
American slavery to segregation, it was almost considered edicate to dislike and mistreat blacks
and mexicans. Now that segregation is illegal, and illegal working conditions for mexican
immigrants isn t as big as a problem, people think that racism doesn t exist. Well, looking at
examples through history, you can t kill a culture with laws, and this isn t an exception. When I
was ten, my youngest sister s friend s mom wouldn t allow her to go to her party, because she
was black. My older sister and father have both been called derogatory and racist names growing
up. A lady opened up her house to victims in the Las Vegas shooting to help, but she wouldn t
allow any blacks or gays. There are also countless videos online of people being racist. Two that
come to mind is when a lady wouldn t let her child be seen by a black doctor, and one woman
called a black man racist names and spit on him. An epidemic of unarmed young black males have
been getting shot and killed by police for almost no reason. The L.A riots were caused because of

Here Comes Honey Boo Boo Evaluation
Here Comes Honey Boo Boo
Reality television has become one of the most common forms of entertainment in the American
household since the early 2000 s. From The Bachelor to Jersey Shore , no plot seems too racy or
inappropriate for audiences of all ages. Recently, however, TLC aired their newest reality TV
show, Here Comes Honey Boo Boo that is thought to be one of the most controversial reality TV
series of all time. The show encompasses the lives of a small town, southern Georgian family who

Amy Winter, general manager of TLC released a statement disclosing that What you see is what

sincerity and love with our viewers. But the question remains; should reality television shows like
this one that glorify lack of education, obesity, and teenage pregnancy be accurate
representations of American culture? The answer seems to be obvious when put into
perspective, however the show s clever catchphrases such as A dolla makes me holla! and You
better redneckonize! make the series out to be irresistible to some viewers. Ironically enough,
TLC originated as The Learning Channel, and previously aired documentaries that were
educational and appropriate for viewers of all ages. Subjects ranged from science, to nature, and
even current events. Its rival was of course, The Education Channel. Over the years, however,
TLC has picked up several reality TV shows including Say Yes to the Dress , Little People Big
World , and 19 Kids and Counting. Although each of these shows receives its fair share of
criticism, Here Comes Honey Boo Boo has received the heaviest hits by far. The question we
should ask ourselves is what does this mean for the state of Georgia s public image in the national
light? A state that was the centerpiece for the civil rights movement, and is home to a city, Atlanta,

In the Daintree Rainforest, a myriad of fauna found resembles the most ancient animals that once
roamed the land of Gondwana. For example, the most ancient member of the kangaroo family is:
the musky rat kangaroo also known as: Hypsiprymnodon moschatus. This small brown animal has

Essay about Elites And The Masses
Elites and the Masses
There are many theories pertaining to the nature of power in society. In modern society, it is
important to identify where and when power is exercised, who benefits and who suffers from it
being exerted upon them. In this tradition, it is useful to examine the managerialist perspective.
Managerialism focuses on organizations as the basis, or unit of analysis of society, to which all
other aspects of society are subordinate to. These organizations use their resources in an attempt to
dominate each other and society. Managerialism tells us that power is concentrated among a group
of elites who control organizations, and use them as an instrument to gain more power and expand

The increased use of assembly lines in production is a prime example of depersonalization within
bureaucracy.
Weber identifies several different types of authority. One is traditional legitimacy, which states that
authority is bestowed upon someone based on traditional roles of authority, such as the pope or
even the parents of children. Charismatic authority tells us that some are granted legitimacy to have
authority over our lives by sheer charisma, such as Martin Luther King jr., Adolf Hitler and Gandhi.
The third type of authority is rational legal authority. This states that we grant legitimacy based
upon the office they serve. An example of this is the inherent authority of Jesse Ventura over the
people of Minnesota, simply because he holds the title of governor.
In the managerial perspective, the economy is seen as a process of three different factors:
industrialization, elite competition and bureaucratic rationalization.
Industrialization is characterized by the increased role of technology as an integral factor of
production. As industrialization and science further blend together, the economy becomes
increasingly large and complex, making bureaucratic organizations more and more of a necessary
function to the advancement of

One technique Caswell uses to emphasise this idea is the changing of perspective, from third
person to first person in order to express the opinions of a particular character. This technique is
evidenced in the quote, God, it was like a day trip around a sewer. The company owned him and
his morals . In these sentences, Caswell presents Erik s opinion that Brady was corrupt and that
the corruption made him into a unpleasant character to interact with thus explaining the effects of
corruption to an individual s personality. In addition to the changing of perspective, Brian Caswell
also places some sections days after the previous section, an example being in Chapter XXX,
where the third section is 3 days after the second one. This makes the novel more diary like
therefore increasing the impact of its ideas on the reader, making them think more about the novel.
The structural techniques in Brain Caswell s A Cage of butterflies mostly emphasise the idea that
scientific research can be corrupted by the profit motive to increase its impact on the audience.

Before delving into my observations on J I want to first describe what his second language
acquisition stage is. Based on what I observed from his communication in class and his writing I
have concluded that he is stage three: the speech emergence stage. He can communicate in simple
sentences, but when he communicates in longer and complex sentences he makes grammatical
mistakes. Although he has been in the country for four years I feel his language development has
been hindered by being pushed along in school, never getting enough one on one instruction, and
not enough ELL support in terms of a teacher pulling him aside to help more often. In a more
intense supportive environment I think he would already be in stage four. Reed (2003) informs
readers that having an understanding of ELL students will dramatically improve the ability to

Harry Rosen thrives in presenting its customers with a visual image that they can be confident in
regardless of the occasion. When customers come in and see how the mannequins are dressed, it
automatically sparks different ideas in their mind in terms of how they want to be dressed.
However, the problem with the mannequins at Harry Rosen is that it is not changed on regular
basis and is changed close to every 2 months. That is a problem because customers want new ideas;
they want to be shown a new outfit that they might have never thought of, different colors, different

that there is no new merchandise in the store, thus making it difficult for the associates in selling
the merchandise, as customers don t want to buy merchandise that is not in fashion or season for

The Pros And Cons Of Gun Control
As opponents against gun control have numerous reasons as to why guns should not be restricted
amongst the American public but pointed to the Second Amendment to the United Constitution as
the main reason why gun control should not be permitted in the U.S. However, what these critics
do not want to accept is that since 1980, several crucial events in the United States have led to
excessive gun control movement. Remarkably, it takes a lot more than one appalling catastrophe to
influence Americans that more attention should be taken into monitoring the number and types of
guns the public can get access to. However, some major shooting calamities in the U.S such as
assassination attempts on President Reagan s, Columbine, Virginia Tech, and Sandy Hook have all
triggered majority of Americans to take a stance in favor of gun control legislation. The first key
push in the direction of the gun control movement begun during the era of Ronald Reagan
presidency since he happened to be of one of the most pro gun presidents in American history.
During the first few months of his presidency, a notorious assassination effort nearly terminated his
life. This almost tragic moment in history happened on March 30, 1981, as President Reagan
finished delivering his speech at the Washington Hilton Hotel, to a group of union members of the
AFL CIO.21. Nonetheless, unknowingly to the President s Secret Service detail was a 25 year old
named John Hinckley Jr. was waiting outside the hotel, with the determination of killing president
Reagan.
According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) records states, at 2:25 P.M., as the
President go out of the hotel from side of the VIP entrance, and made his way to his limousine,
six successive shots were fired from Mr. Hinckley s handgun, in the direction of the President
and his Secret Service detail. The FBI accounts state, President Reagan was struck in the left
chest area by a bullet along with his press Secretary Brady who was also shot from the same spate
of bullets which entered his brain above his left eye. and also two of his Secret Service Agent

Usually, when you think about the term drug, you may assume that it is an unpleasant substance
that poses an undesired experience. As the individual grows, he is warned by parents at home,
relatives in society, and teachers in school about the most dangerous and destructive consequences
of drug use. Nowadays, these messages have been conveyed through the media and film industry.
But years back, these entertainment platforms were showing drugs to be a pleasurable substance.
Moreover, these platforms sometimes stereotype the people who take drugs.

Even though the media did not mean to be racist but they are highly influencing the peoples mind
and their perception about the consumption of drugs.
The next thing Boyd researches is the time of rock and roll. After watching one of the three
films she mentioned. He figured that the main lead in the film who uses drugs was portrayed in
the positive. They did not fully go against of what Boyd has believed. The main protagonist used
to do drugs and did found pleasure in doing it, but he did it because he did not want to collapse
in the norm of society. He also did to improve his life through drug dealing as he wanted a way
where he could make money easily and quickly.
During 1970 s there was a big change in the industry of entertainment. This was the time where
the African Americans were becoming a part of the working class. During this time, there were
some social and political changes which were occurring due to the Black Panther Party and also
because of the civil rights movement. Boyd discusses a movie called Superfly (1972). This
movie shows the real condition of poor black people in New York City. How they were not
getting work and because of which they had to smuggle drugs for their living. However, this film
disagrees with Mandelson s opinion. According to him, majority of people in his films were
nonwhite people but there has been some appearance of the policeman who are shown as the most

Safety: This lab did not require any safety equipment. Data: Calculations: First convert voltage of
the sunlight from millivolts to volts, which becomes 0.3552 V. Then figure out homy many J/s
the sunlight has by using the formula 1ev = 1.602 x 10^ 19 J, which was 5.690 x 10^ 20 J/s.
Then since 1 watt = 1 J/s, take the number of watts per house hold item and divide them by 1.690
x 10^ 20 J/s to get the number of DSSC that would be need. Results: The voltage that the sunlight
gives the DSSC was greater than any other light source. The DSSC do not absorbs much energy,
so in order to power some of the smaller house hold items it would take a very large amount.
Conclusion: The lab s purpose was to design a new cleaner and more environmentally friendly
solar cell than the old one, which gives off a lot of waste and uses harmful gases to clean. This
new cell that was designed does not produce any waste and is easy to maintain. The most effective
light source for this DSSC is the sunlight, but this still produces a very small amount of energy.
Therefore, it would take an extremely large amount of solar cells to power the house hold

Analysis Of Victor SпїЅjeur s The Mulatto
Victor SГ©jeur s The Mulatto
Published in 1837 in France by Victor Sejeur, The Mulatto is a graphic representation of both the
physical violence occurring during the life of an enslaved person in St. Domingue. The American
expatriate SГ©jeur was unencumbered by the limitations experienced by mid 19th century black
authors in the United States and could freely express the violent reality of a society based in a
slave economy. The story of Georges, the son of a slave owner and an enslaved woman, is told by
an elderly narrator during the time after the slave rebellion to the unnamed narrator visiting St.
Domingue for the first time. The Mulatto is an examination of the violence inherent in a society
based upon slavery and the reverberation of that violence. SГ©jeur specifically focuses on how the
violence of a society based upon a slave economy pervasively impacts the societal unit of the family
and includes violence committed by the oppressors on the oppressed as well as the violent reaction
of those that have had their family and humanity mutually devastated.
The frame narrative structure of The Mulatto frames the violence occurring in the life of Georges
during the time before abolition within an external contextual frame of his story being told during
post slavery St. Domingue. The tone of simmering anger and violence in the elderly narrator as he
addresses the original narrator as Master and then proceeds to describe how the master would do

I won t! I wouldn t be able to forget with you reminding me every few minutes.
Now get up and get ready for dinner!
No! I sighed loudly exaggerated on the o . But then I eventually gave up against the cold air that
was freezing off my legs. Should have worn a onesie I mentally face palmed myself.
Oh and wear something nice, we re dressing up! Mum called from the kitchen again.
No! Not the effort!
I dragged myself to the bathroom to take a quick shower and then brushed my teeth. I looked
through my closet at the endless hangers supporting clothes that didn t suit the occasion. A football
jersey, another football jersey, shorts, shorts, shorts, a t shirt, another t shirt, leggings, jeans and
more jeans. I finally stopped at the end of the wardrobe; the last hanger supporting the red dress my

Essay On Phoenix Jackson
Phoenix Jackson The story A Worn Path, by Eudora Welty tells the story of a woman named
Phoenix Jackson, who lives in Natchez Mississippi. Phoenix has a grandson that she cares for
that has swallowed a chemical called lye, that was used in many households back when this story
was written. Lye poisoning was common in a lot of rural areas. Welty is writing about this
problem the hardship Phoenix Jackson had to go through to get medical treatment at that time.
Without the name Phoenix Jackson and the characteristics, she possesses there is no way she
could have overcome the obstacles that stood in her way. With the first name of Phoenix, Ms.
Welty is showing the symbol of a Greek mythological bird that could live to be one hundred to one

The young white hunter assisted her out of a ditch only to belittle her and put a gun in her face
(Welty). This shows great courage to endure this encounter that must have been something
Phoenix had endured and witnessed her entire life. Hard work was a way of life, much like Dr.
Jackson that worked tirelessly to find a cure to save the young children who had swallowed lye,
it made her strong enough to face this encounter (Stang). In addition, it was hard work and
agility to walk along a log to cross a creek with her eyes closed, the wisdom to shimmy under
barbed wire fences without getting hung up, the endurance to go up and down hills and through
hollers, and the devotion to make the trip to the Doctors office and back (Welty). Although, in
her nineties Phoenix was strong and very capable to walk that worn path and do it with the
dignity of a grandmother that cares about her grandson. The story tells that Phoenix was a
selfless, devoted, and caring person. In addition, Dr. Jackson cared for his patients, many times
using his own money for research and charity cases (Stang 17. By taking advantage, making
yearly trips to the Doctor s office, because the doctor said, if she comes and gets the medicine she
can have it, shows her wisdom and devotion. She takes the time to tell the nurse how cute her
grandson is and that he will survive, showing her optimism. Even after enduring belittling wise
cracks from the attendant

Reflection In Art Writing
The key realisation recognised throughout my art practice this semester has been my investigation
of various binaries; including the study of public and private spheres, internal and external
thoughts, and individual works versus participatory projects. Further consideration of nostalgia,
poetry, and the idea of absence has also been prevalent within my current artwork. This semester I
ve also begun examining the connection my practice has to gesture and the body where my
handwriting is perceived as a physical extension of myself. My overall thinking and making
processes teeters back and forth between my fascination of the idiosyncratic lives of others and
using my practice as a cathartic process to healthily response to traumatic experiences. Although
initially regarded as a setback in my practice, the return to intimate, diaristic confessions
encapsulates the foundations of my practice which is examining my intense, instinctual desire to
communicate with the people around me. Thus far when making artwork this semester, my
internal struggle between experimenting with new concepts and wanting to use my practice to
heal has influenced the type of work that I ve made. How I ve incorporated both desires into my
practice is best shown in my works ephemera memorabilia, Untitled (participatory projections), and
apostle tender respectively. Ephemera memorabilia is a video of my hands turning the pages of
terrible confessional and pathetic conversation, a book of visual poetry and

The Between Politics And Religion
1. Islam, as we saw early in this course, began with a fusion of religion and politics. How do the
various approaches to Islam we ve studied traditionalism as represented by the ulama, Sufism,
Islamism, and modernism differ in conceiving of the relationship between the two? Does each
necessarily have a vision of an Islamic engagement with politics and, if so, what does it look like?
The interaction between politics and religion in the Islamic context is one that descends from the
model of the Prophet Muhammad, who served as a transcendental figure and as a community
leader at the same time. Inevitably, then, these two aspects of Muhammad s position interacted to
some degree. Indeed, this intermingling of the political and the religious is seen in the very
framework of Islam as we know it the umma is at once a community defined around a religious
identity and a political entity extant through that religious identity. Nevertheless, Islam remains a
diverse religion encompassing a number of various ideologies frameworks by which the textual and
traditional material of the faith are interpreted and understood. This paper will examine a number of
these ideological approaches to Islam namely traditionalism, modernism, Islamism, and Sufism and
explain their visions of how Islam should relate with politics. Before I delve into this examination,
however, it is worthwhile to spend a moment defining the two terms at the center of the analysis.

Aztec Birdcage
Birdcage: This amazing artifact shows the thought of birds and the respect towards them. This
birdcage is well designed and durable, the nobles would have a sturdy and an elegant birdcage
while a commoner would have a simple looking cage, using the less sturdy material. The Aztecs
used birds for sacrifices and for appearances and they used several birds feathers, for decoration,
clothing, and for fans. Birds were highly respected though the most respected bird was the quetzal.
The quetzal was highly respected for its feathers and its appearance, you see the quetzal s
appearance looked similar to the god, Quetzalcoatl, the green, blue, and red fur matches the look of

They liked to keep track of their days, and when to pray for their gods. The calendar was very
important to Aztecs, it was an indicator of when to do a sacrifice; the Aztecs highly valued
sacrifices and rituals for their gods. The Aztecs weren t some messed up people, they were
organized, and they had a clean living style. The Aztecs were knowledgeable, they were skilled
at many things and they had religious idols on the calendar to show how much they value their
gods. Their main purpose, stated above, was to know what day to sacrifice, as they thought of
the gods as highly important, and they thought if no sacrifice is made, the gods will die. The
Aztecs needed to be precise at knowing when to do a sacrifice, they didn t want to make the
gods upset if they didn t do their sacrifice on time. Overall calendars were highly important to
Aztecs, and they used calendars in their daily lives, knowing what day to trade (for merchants),
or when to pray was important. Calendars were made out of stone, they were carved and
chiseled. Similar to both the birdcage and the miniature god sculpture, it took a lot of time and
precision. Calendars weren t something to be done fast, it took a lot of time, the Aztecs wanted
to know accurately when to celebrate festivals, do sacrifices, and when to pray. Making the
calendar took a lot of time, but learning about them took time too. To become a teacher you
obviously needed to go to school, but you also highly needed to know about the calendar. The
calendar was important to religion and teachers would need to pass the information on how to
use a calendar or else the next generation wouldn t be able to know how to use an important tool
for praying, festivals, and sacrifices. Teachers needed to teach kids and pass down information
about the calendar or else there would be a lack of accuracy when to pray and when to sacrifice.
This artifact excavated is highly

Should Vending Machines Be Allowed
I believe that it is time to consider putting healthier options into Mountain View vending
machines. My child has expressed wanting to have better options to choose from, rather than
having to opt for chips or pop tarts. I do not want to see the removal of everything that is bad or
that has too much sugar because I do believe that is taking away the students rights to make that
choice. In a study by Maia Paterson parents had this to say Parents saw high schoolas a time during
which it is appropriate for children to have more freedom in decision making and more
responsibility for taking care of themselves. In the same study it says Parents viewed the issue of

Essay on There Is a Fine Line Between Reality and Illusion
There is a fine line between reality and illusion
How can we distinguish between reality and illusion? Is reality an illusion, or is an illusion
simply reality? Albert Einstein once stated that reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very
persistent one . The statement suggests that what we interpret to be real may well be an illusion
and this is evidenced mainly through dreams and aspirations. For example if someone has
dreamt of one day being a doctor their reality, which is described as the state of things that
actually exist, shifts or changes in order for that idea to become real. Reality is tangible while
illusion is a faculty or activity of imagination. What may be reality for one person may be an
illusion for another and this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Blanche DuBois from A Streetcar Named Desirehas a similar reaction to her reality. Her reality is
that she has lost the love of her life to suicide, no longer remains a teacher and does not own any
assets as she has lost the property known as Belle Reve. In order to endure her life Blanche
rejects her reality and manipulates it with lies, makeup and lighting in order to hide from the
truth. I don t want realism I want magic , Blanche desires for a life of pure happiness and
excitement, however her imagination is indistinguishable from her reality and the series of lies and
dimmed lights soon begin to fade as she is met with Stanley Kowalski. Stanley Kowalski, a brutish
and arrogant realist finds it difficult to understand Blanche s reality. Unlike Blanche, Stanley needs
reassurance that what he knows is perfectly real and reliable. In the play the two characters
continuously disagree with each other and eventually Stanley s animalistic behavior threatens
Blanche s safety. Blanche and Stanley are a great example of how one individual s reality is
different to another s, these conflicting ideas and perceptions of life occur often between people
and have been proven to cause disagreement. People around us have great influence of how we
perceive things although there are other major influences that contribute to our perceptions for
instance the media.
The media has brought forward many deceiving images of models and famous Hollywood stars.

The Pros And Cons Of Performance-Based Budgeting
Budgeting is a process to plan budget which is used to describe fiscal expectation, expenditure and
future planning of an individual, organization or government within a given period of time
(Olawale, et al. 2012). Up until now, there are many methods of budgeting for governments such as
traditional (line item) budgeting, zero based budgeting, and performance based budgeting. Due to its
simplicity, the traditional budgeting which listed groups of expenditure using last year s data such
as office supplies, salary, electricity bill and used incremental approach on them (Navin, 2003) has
become the most popular one in many countries. However, many people criticize this budgeting
method because many believe that this budgeting method is ineffective and inefficient . As a result,
since 1990s, many countries have reformed their budgeting method to performance based budgeting
which use performance information in budgetprocesses (Lee and Wang, 2009). Despite the trend of
budgeting reform in the world, some developed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In some countries performance based budgeting is known as budgeting results and performance
funding (OECD, 2007). Young (2003) stated that most experts agree that, Performance based
budgeting (PBB) is the allocation of funds to achieve programmatic goals and objectives as well as
some indication or measurement of work, efficiency, and/or effectiveness . PBB links directly the
expected results and resource requirements (Navin, 2003). It is clearly shown that result is the focus
of this budgeting method. Navin (2003) also said that performance measure is important in PBB
because it shows whether the activities of the government departments actually make a difference
in people s life. Although performance would not be the only factor in a budget allocation decision,
it has a significant contribution in the decision making process because it could give better informed

Internal Conflict In The Hunger Games
Katniss Internal Conflicts
In life there always seems to be some sort of violence and there always seems to be a good and a
bad side. Directed by Gary Ross, The Hunger Games is a movie about 24 tributes fighting to the
death for the Hunger Games crown and freedom from ever having to physically fight in the arena
again. It is a game of violence, ferocity, and blood, and only one tribute can win. Even though
stories often have a Battle between Good and Evil, it is Katniss s internal conflict confronting her
own good and evil that portrays humanity with a longing for destruction, violent inclination, and
sense of separation. When one loves a person or something dearly, then they have the tendency to
do almost anything they can to protect and save them from whatever harm they come across.
Katniss volunteered for the games knowing she was saving her sister from a terrible fate. She
made a promise that she would try her best to win the Hunger Games, but her confidence in her
own ability to kill another person was minimal. She did not want to get any blood on her hands but
knew that in order to win she would be forced to. Crispin Sartwell recognized situations like these
when he said, your goodness, like mine, has little to do with who you are and everything to do with
the social conditions you find yourself in (Sartwell). The circumstance Katniss found herself in was
full of violence, pain, and ruthlessness which further contributed to the tainting of her humanity

Once a bustling urban center rife with economic prosperity, the city of Detroit, Michigan filed for the largest municipal bankruptcy case in U.S history on July 18, 2013 (Fletcher, 2013). Over recent decades, Detroit has been the victim of both economic and demographic decay. To put the magnitude of the city s desolation in perspective, during the middle of the twentieth century, the city s population was approximately 1,850,000, making it, at the time, the fifth most populous city in the nation. As of 2013 census data, however, the city has dropped to the eighteenth most populous city, with a population of 701,000, the lowest it has been since the 1910s when the city... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By examining the relationship between the fall of the city s industry chiefly the automotive industry and racial conflict, this essay serves to highlight the factors that caused both the demographic and economic decline of Detroit in regards to Marxist theory. Karl Marx (1818 1883) was a German sociologist and philosopher renowned for his analyses of political economy. According to his theories, capitalism is dependent on exploitation. That is, the working class (the proletariat) works for the owning class (the bourgeoisie), but rather than receive a compensation equivalent to its actual labor, or production value, the working class is underpaid, with a surplus, or profit, pouring into the pockets of the owners. Although the proletariat receives the short end of the stick, so to speak, its members are forced to sell labor power to the bourgeoisie in order to receive wages necessary for survival. Thus, conflict between the owners and workers, known as mutual antagonism, is inherit in the capitalist system, as workers fight for higher wages and shorter working days while owners attempt to combat these demands to maximize profit. Marx s theory of history, known as dialectical materialism, is focused on the notion that societies evolve through a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Criticism Of The Virgin Mary Virgin Mary is a very influential woman in Christianity, particularly in the Roman Catholic sect. She is an example of what all women should strive to become. Historically, Mary has been viewed as a controversial figure in feminist culture. However, the Virgin Mary should truly be considered a feminist icon. Many may argue that Mary is a passive character, whose only use was as a vessel. There is, however, substantial evidence that this is completely untrue. There are many different scenarios in the Bible that highlight Mary s strength. For example, one of the first encounters with Mary shows readers her resilience. In the sixth month of Elizabeth s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, 27 to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin s name was Mary. 28 The angel went to her and said, Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you. 29 Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. 30 But the angel said to her, Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. 31 You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, 33 and he will reign over Jacob s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end. 34 How will this be, Mary asked the angel, since I am a virgin? 35 The angel answered, ... • 8. Madness Theme In Hamlet Hamlet s Madness There are a variety of different themes that are shown within the play Hamlet . These themes vary from death to obsession and also betrayal, all of which contribute in some manner to encourage Hamlet s madness. In every theme, the audience can somewhat relate on a level both back in the day and in contemporary times as death, obsession and betrayal are common entities, well known today and will continue to be known and understood until the end of time. There are many themes that reoccur, all of which relate back to Hamlet s madness, specifically including death, obsession, and betrayal. It has been rumored that Hamlet, the play in this case, is a perfect combo of internal and external forces. Hamlet experiences turmoil, based not only on his inner mental state, but also on the external circumstances of both the murder of his father committed jointly by his mother and the constant spying on him by Claudius and Polonius. In this case, Hamlet mostly likely is just suffering from some mild paranoia.. Hamlet seem to think about suicide throughout the course of the play more than the average person would. Hamlet is trying to avoid and not to be subjected to the inevitable heartache that is simply a part of life, and by wishing to not have to tolerate pain, shows why his wish is to die. At the end, Hamlet has apparently made the decision that he would rather die, but if only he were not afraid of what would come after death. This also reflects Hamlet s depression in that he would constantly think about death and suicide. The question remains as to whether or not this is madness. It is possible that because he debats about suicide in a very real and serious way, it could possibly be thought of as madness as it is not a thought that any normal person would ever have. Instead, a normal person could see issues in life that need to be dealt with instead of run away from which could have been what Hamlet was doing/trying to do. Madness is all over this possibility of death because most individuals will never truly contemplate taking their own life in any normal circumstances. Hamlet can be said to be truly mentally ill in some cases. At the same time, he resents and hates his mother for killing his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Comparing Canterbury Tales And The Pardoner s Tale In The Canterbury Tales, the Host tells the pilgrims he will be grading their tales based on two factors: moral education and entertainment value. Moral education comprises a lifelong process which growth in responsibility and freedom. The two tales that must be decided between are The Knight s Tale and The Pardoner s Tale, both tales were spectacular; however, The Knight s Tale best incorporates moral education and entertainment value. The Knight s Tale has a good interpretation on moral education that comes from Arcite and Palamon falling in love with the same woman, Emily. The Knight s Tale also has a good interpretation on entertainment based upon the whole story as a whole as an action/romance type story. Moral education is influenced by many different agencies in society. In The Knight s Tale, one can see how moral education is interpreted based upon Arcite and Palamon both falling in love with Emily at the same time. Palamon and Arcite are cousins and brothers by knighthood; they were taken as prisoners of war by Duke Theseus in Athens, never to be released. • 11. Accuracy Of Gladiator Gladiator is an epic historical action drama set in the Roman Empire during the reign of Commodus, the last emperor of the Nerva Antonine dynasty. The film is directed by Ridley Scott and features big name actors such as Russel Crowe, Joaquin Phoenix, and the late Richard Harris. In brief the story of Gladiatorcenters Maximus Decimus Meridius (Russel Crowe), a betrayed Roman General who is forced into becoming a gladiator. Maximus fights his way from a lowly arena on the outskirts of the empire, to the Colosseum at Rome with the goal of killing the emperor Commodus, avenging the murder of his family. In terms of their social status, the film portrays gladiators as a mix of slaves, prisoners, and professional athletes. The gladiators are the property of a Roman citizen, most seemed to be there against their will, and yet they could achieve massive popular approval and support like a professional athlete of today. Maximus s relationship with the crowd is an important plot point, showing the necessity of a gladiator in getting the approval of the masses to better ensure their survival. • 13. Time, Life, and God in John Milton s Poetry Essay Time, Life, and God in John Milton s Poetry John Milton s poems, How Soon Hath Time and When I Consider How My Light Is Spent both focus on life and how the time we are given is or should be spent. Milton uses the word How in both the titles and I cant help but wonder Is there something to examine there? How by itself is a question of is it possible, and if so then what needs to be done to make it possible. It, in this case is time: Is time possible or better yet, is it possible to stop time? If so then how will it be accomplished? What needs to happen to cause time to stop? Milton uses the speaker in this poem to explain a way of looking at time and how quickly time really does fly by. In these two poems the speakers refer to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The dictionary refers to time as, A nonspatial continuum in which events occur in apparently irreversible succession from the past through the present to the future. (Dictionary). Apparently irreversible , this statement is interesting because using the word apparently still leaves some room for question. Word does that mean? Does that mean we can change time or the events that have occurred in that time? Milton doesn t seem to think that is possible. Because Milton further emphasizes his point when in the first line he personifies time but this time referring to time as the thief of youth, which reflects somewhat of a bitter tone because time has passed so quickly. This personification the thief if youth also parallels and agrees with the dictionary definition of time, the fact that time is irreversible. It appears to the reader that the speaker is very bitter about time passing so quickly and perhaps he feels as if his time has been stolen from him. However, the writer in line twelve also refers to time as a leader, which reflects a tone of acceptance toward time and his fate. This tone is different from the tone at the beginning of the poem. The speaker has changed his tone and it seems as if this tone change has occurred because the speaker is considering how he believes his short time should be spent. ... • 17. Rewards And Punishment At School Learning In order to understand whether rewards and punishment operate as similar factors an experiment was designed. Subjects underwent an auditory task where they had to mark down answers on an answer sheet. Answers marked down showed that punishment had a greater effect on behavior. Once analyzed, the results showed that punishment and reward do not have a symmetric law of effect. In fact, giving a punishment had a stronger effect on behavior than giving a reward. Introduction A staggering twelve years is spent in school learning about a variety of pertinent subjects. Teachers, the people that work in these learning institutes have used both reward and punishment to guide behavior. For instance, some teachers offer a prize to whoever gets the highest score on a test. While others choose to take away free time to those who do poorly on a test. All those programs are put in place with the goal of improving performance. Unfortunately, not all systems are successful. In fact, some are incredibly more effective than others. Perhaps, the consequences of a behavior dictate the outcomes next time. The question posed by this is, Do punishment and reward operate as distinct factors in influencing behavior? (The Cowboys). He also had a woolen or cotton shirt, tight woolen pants and handkerchief. All of the clothing accessories were chosen for their usefulness. For example, ?A high crowned, broad brimmed felt hat, the sombrero, shielded him from the sun and rain. His soft legged boots had high heels set far under the instep to hold his ankle clear of the heavy stirrup? (?Cowboy?). His handkerchief protected his face by shielding it from the sun and preventing dust from entering his mouth. The tight pants were worn for a reason; they protected his legs from brush and insects (?Cowboys?). The things a cowboy wore were essential to life and they always used these things. A cowboy?s job mainly involved the rounding up of cattle and driving the cattle to the destinations designated by the ranch owner. Introduction: When we visualized our senior project, we decided that engineering and electronic students in college could make use of portable, inexpensive, simple equipment in order to demonstrate concepts off campus. This equipment would not necessarily have all of the functionality and versatility of the lab equipment, but it would be useful in demonstrating concepts. The current lab equipment is great for school, but if students have a need to use the equipment at home such as to finish labs, learn more, or just hobby use, they are left without an inexpensive alternative with the equipment currently on the market. Our solution was to address these issues with our project which we named Lab In A Box. This would allow students to have a portable oscilloscope, power supply, and function generator at a greatly reduced cost. The labs performed usually only requires low bandwidth and low voltage equipment. The power supplies in the labs are DC with the capability of +6V and В±25V. The function generator is a 15MHz waveform generator that is capable of sine, square, triangle, and saw tooth waveforms. The

You may be thinking, How would this cause someone to leave the country, and how could some of these reasons separate us as a country? Well, I think so for these particular reasons. Charismatic authority tells us that some are granted legitimacy to have authority over our lives by sheer charisma, such as Martin Luther King jr., Adolf Hitler and Gandhi. The third type of authority is rational legal authority. This states that we grant legitimacy based upon the office they serve. An example of this is the inherent authority of Jesse Ventura over the people of Minnesota, simply because he holds the title of governor. The American expatriate SГ©jeur was unencumbered by the limitations experienced by mid 19th century black authors in the United States and could freely express the violent reality of a society based in a slave economy. The story of Georges, the son of a slave owner and an enslaved woman, is told by an elderly narrator during the time after the slave rebellion to the unnamed narrator visiting St. Domingue for the first time. The Mulatto is an examination of the violence inherent in a society based upon slavery and the reverberation of that violence. SГ©jeur specifically focuses on how the violence of a society based upon a slave economy pervasively impacts the societal unit of the family and includes violence committed by the oppressors on the oppressed as well as the violent reaction of those that have had their family and humanity mutually devastated. The frame narrative structure of The Mulatto frames the violence occurring in the life of Georges during the time before abolition within an external contextual frame of his story being told during post slavery St. Domingue. I hope you didn t sleep in like this all the time I was away! Yeah, course not. I mumbled pulling the covers over my head, snuggling further into their warmth. A few more minutes please I internally begged not ready to open my eyes to the light. Next thing the warmth covering me disappeared as the cold air attacked me. Get out of bed now Charlotte! No, I m still sleeping. I grumbled. You have to get ready for dinner later and don t forget to bring your boyfriend over! Mum giggled like an intoxicated teenager from one of those clichГ© American chick flicks. I won t! I wouldn t be able to forget with you reminding me every few minutes. Now get up and get ready for dinner! No! I sighed loudly exaggerated on the o . But then I eventually gave up against the cold air that was freezing off my legs. Should have worn a onesie I mentally face palmed myself. Oh and wear something nice, we re dressing up! Mum called from the kitchen again. No! Not the effort! I dragged myself to the bathroom to take a quick shower and then brushed my teeth. I looked through my closet at the endless hangers supporting clothes that didn t suit the occasion. A football jersey, another football jersey, shorts, shorts, shorts, a t shirt, another t shirt, leggings, jeans and more jeans. The young white hunter assisted her out of a ditch only to belittle her and put a gun in her face (Welty). This shows great courage to endure this encounter that must have been something Phoenix had endured and witnessed her entire life. Hard work was a way of life, much like Dr. Jackson that worked tirelessly to find a cure to save the young children who had swallowed lye, it made her strong enough to face this encounter (Stang). In addition, it was hard work and agility to walk along a log to cross a creek with her eyes closed, the wisdom to shimmy under barbed wire fences without getting hung up, the endurance to go up and down hills and through hollers, and the devotion to make the trip to the Doctors office and back (Welty). Although, in her nineties Phoenix was strong and very capable to walk that worn path and do it with the dignity of a grandmother that cares about her grandson. • 42. Reflection In Art Writing The key realisation recognised throughout my art practice this semester has been my investigation of various binaries; including the study of public and private spheres, internal and external thoughts, and individual works versus participatory projects. Further consideration of nostalgia, poetry, and the idea of absence has also been prevalent within my current artwork. This semester I ve also begun examining the connection my practice has to gesture and the body where my handwriting is perceived as a physical extension of myself. My overall thinking and making processes teeters back and forth between my fascination of the idiosyncratic lives of others and using my practice as a cathartic process to healthily response to traumatic experiences. Although initially regarded as a setback in my practice, the return to intimate, diaristic confessions encapsulates the foundations of my practice which is examining my intense, instinctual desire to communicate with the people around me. Thus far when making artwork this semester, my internal struggle between experimenting with new concepts and wanting to use my practice to heal has influenced the type of work that I ve made. How I ve incorporated both desires into my practice is best shown in my works ephemera memorabilia, Untitled (participatory projections), and apostle tender respectively. Ephemera memorabilia is a video of my hands turning the pages of terrible confessional and pathetic conversation, a book of visual poetry and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. The Between Politics And Religion 1. Islam, as we saw early in this course, began with a fusion of religion and politics. How do the various approaches to Islam we ve studied traditionalism as represented by the ulama, Sufism, Islamism, and modernism differ in conceiving of the relationship between the two? Does each necessarily have a vision of an Islamic engagement with politics and, if so, what does it look like? The interaction between politics and religion in the Islamic context is one that descends from the model of the Prophet Muhammad, who served as a transcendental figure and as a community leader at the same time. Inevitably, then, these two aspects of Muhammad s position interacted to some degree. Indeed, this intermingling of the political and the religious is seen in the very framework of Islam as we know it the umma is at once a community defined around a religious identity and a political entity extant through that religious identity. Nevertheless, Islam remains a diverse religion encompassing a number of various ideologies frameworks by which the textual and traditional material of the faith are interpreted and understood. This paper will examine a number of these ideological approaches to Islam namely traditionalism, modernism, Islamism, and Sufism and explain their visions of how Islam should relate with politics. Before I delve into this examination, however, it is worthwhile to spend a moment defining the two terms at the center of the analysis. Within this paper, I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Aztec Birdcage Birdcage: This amazing artifact shows the thought of birds and the respect towards them. This birdcage is well designed and durable, the nobles would have a sturdy and an elegant birdcage while a commoner would have a simple looking cage, using the less sturdy material. The Aztecs used birds for sacrifices and for appearances and they used several birds feathers, for decoration, clothing, and for fans. Birds were highly respected though the most respected bird was the quetzal. The quetzal was highly respected for its feathers and its appearance, you see the quetzal s appearance looked similar to the god, Quetzalcoatl, the green, blue, and red fur matches the look of Quetzalcoatl. The calendar was very important to Aztecs, it was an indicator of when to do a sacrifice; the Aztecs highly valued sacrifices and rituals for their gods. The Aztecs weren t some messed up people, they were organized, and they had a clean living style. The Aztecs were knowledgeable, they were skilled at many things and they had religious idols on the calendar to show how much they value their gods. Their main purpose, stated above, was to know what day to sacrifice, as they thought of the gods as highly important, and they thought if no sacrifice is made, the gods will die. The Aztecs needed to be precise at knowing when to do a sacrifice, they didn t want to make the gods upset if they didn t do their sacrifice on time. Overall calendars were highly important to Aztecs, and they used calendars in their daily lives, knowing what day to trade (for merchants), or when to pray was important. Calendars were made out of stone, they were carved and chiseled. Similar to both the birdcage and the miniature god sculpture, it took a lot of time and precision. Calendars weren t something to be done fast, it took a lot of time, the Aztecs wanted to know accurately when to celebrate festivals, do sacrifices, and when to pray. Making the calendar took a lot of time, but learning about them took time too. To become a teacher you obviously needed to go to school, but you also highly needed to know about the calendar. The calendar was important to religion and teachers would need to pass the information on how to use a calendar or else the next generation wouldn t be able to know how to use an important tool for praying, festivals, and sacrifices. Teachers needed to teach kids and pass down information about the calendar or else there would be a lack of accuracy when to pray and when to sacrifice. This artifact excavated is highly ... My child has expressed wanting to have better options to choose from, rather than having to opt for chips or pop tarts. • 46. Essay on There Is a Fine Line Between Reality and Illusion There is a fine line between reality and illusion How can we distinguish between reality and illusion? Is reality an illusion, or is an illusion simply reality? Albert Einstein once stated that reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one . The statement suggests that what we interpret to be real may well be an illusion and this is evidenced mainly through dreams and aspirations. For example if someone has dreamt of one day being a doctor their reality, which is described as the state of things that actually exist, shifts or changes in order for that idea to become real. Reality is tangible while illusion is a faculty or activity of imagination. What may be reality for one person may be an illusion for another and this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I don t want realism I want magic , Blanche desires for a life of pure happiness and excitement, however her imagination is indistinguishable from her reality and the series of lies and dimmed lights soon begin to fade as she is met with Stanley Kowalski. Stanley Kowalski, a brutish and arrogant realist finds it difficult to understand Blanche s reality. Unlike Blanche, Stanley needs reassurance that what he knows is perfectly real and reliable. • 47. The Pros And Cons Of Performance-Based Budgeting Budgeting is a process to plan budget which is used to describe fiscal expectation, expenditure and future planning of an individual, organization or government within a given period of time (Olawale, et al. 2012). Up until now, there are many methods of budgeting for governments such as traditional (line item) budgeting, zero based budgeting, and performance based budgeting. Due to its simplicity, the traditional budgeting which listed groups of expenditure using last year s data such as office supplies, salary, electricity bill and used incremental approach on them (Navin, 2003) has become the most popular one in many countries. However, many people criticize this budgeting method because many believe that this budgeting method is ineffective and inefficient . As a result, since 1990s, many countries have reformed their budgeting method to performance based budgeting which use performance information in budgetprocesses (Lee and Wang, 2009). Despite the trend of budgeting reform in the world, some developed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 48. Internal Conflict In The Hunger Games Katniss Internal Conflicts In life there always seems to be some sort of violence and there always seems to be a good and a bad side. Directed by Gary Ross, The Hunger Games is a movie about 24 tributes fighting to the death for the Hunger Games crown and freedom from ever having to physically fight in the arena again. It is a game of violence, ferocity, and blood, and only one tribute can win. Even though stories often have a Battle between Good and Evil, it is Katniss s internal conflict confronting her own good and evil that portrays humanity with a longing for destruction, violent inclination, and sense of separation. When one loves a person or something dearly, then they have the tendency to do almost anything they can to protect and save them from whatever harm they come across. Katniss volunteered for the games knowing she was saving her sister from a terrible fate. She made a promise that she would try her best to win the Hunger Games, but her confidence in her own ability to kill another person was minimal. She did not want to get any blood on her hands but knew that in order to win she would be forced to. Crispin Sartwell recognized situations like these when he said, your goodness, like mine, has little to do with who you are and everything to do with the social conditions you find yourself in (Sartwell). The circumstance Katniss found herself in was full of violence, pain, and ruthlessness which further contributed to the tainting of her humanity ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
