Example Of Positional Data
The positional data in the three dimensional space (latitude, longitude, and altitude) for EWR arrival
flights, including all minute by minute arrival flight tracks were selected from FAAAircraft Situation
Display to Industry (ASDI) data services. The ASDI information consists of components like flight
plans, position reports, flight diversions, and cancellations. The position reports were the updates of
aircraft positions every time when the computers were aware of a position amend (i.e. every 12
seconds for enroute RADAR or 5 seconds for TRACON).
EWR airport arrival capacity, i.e. Airport Arrival Rate (AAR), is a dynamic parameter to specify the
number of arrival aircraft that EWR airport can accept throughout a consecutive hour (or 15 ... Show

For each of the WAF files, the data include polygons of airspace regions where aircraft are likely to
deviate around with corresponding avoidance probability thresholds, such as 80%. This data is
available for each of the flight levels from 25,000 ft (FL250) up to 45,000 ft (FL450) in 1,000 ft
increments. The center and sector Weather impacted traffic indexes were calculated using CIWS and
flight data.
C. Weather Impacted Traffic Index (WITI) Model
WITI indicates how bad the weather was based on the number of aircraft affected by it. Over the past
decade, WITI, at an aggregated national and regional level, has been well accepted as an indication of
National Airspace System (NAS) air traffic delays due to it s strong correlation with the latter (for
example, see Ref. 8). In this study, the airspace hourly WITI (center or sector) is defined by using the
flight and weather in the 4 dimentional space inside the airspace S and time H, as: .
Here i, j, k, and t are the latitude, longitude, altitude at a specific time t (in minute), respectively. T is
the reference flight track segment at (i, j, k) and t on the reference day. W is assigned a value of 1 for
the severe weather at location (i, j, k) and t, and a value of 0 otherwise. The reference days were
identified as the days with no significant weather, but significant traffic demand and low NAS

Ralph Waldo Emerson Self Reliance Quote
Self reliance allows for an individual to see their own self value. Ralph Waldo Emerson has a quote
that represents this aspect of self reliance, Greatness is a property for which no man can receive credit
too soon; it must be possessed long before it is acknowledged. Self reliance has many different
qualities including doing good and not expecting any praise because that person knows that they have
done good and that should be enough for them. Ralph Waldo Emerson s quote shows how teens and
Americans need to be self reliant and need to do great things without the final outcome for doing those
great actions only being the acknowledgment of others. By being self reliant an individual is able to be
happy knowing that they have greatness in them. It must be possessed long before it is acknowledged.
(Emerson), meaning that in order for a man to be great they need to be able to do great things without
the want of praise. Emerson also states, Greatness is a property for which no man can receive credit
too soon. I take this to mean that greatness is not something that can be attained instantly and that
someone needs to be self reliant before they can be considered great. Self reliance is a quality that is
hard to achieve and in Emerson s quote he states ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My dad has taught me different lessons that show how to be a great person. Being a great person is not
something that can happen easily. One of the first steps is accepting that a person should not do great
things for the rewards that they will later receive but instead do great things just because. By doing
great things with the intention of receiving a reward that person is being selfish. Being unselfish is
another lesson that my dad would often teach me, because a great person should never be selfish.
Ralph Emerson s quote about greatness and self reliance connects with me because of the lessons my
dad taught me when I was a

Hypertension With Rationale
5. Medical or Surgical Management of Hypertension with Rationale:
There are many methods of treatment for hypertension. This includes exercise, a healthy diet, quitting
smoking, and medications. Some medications that might be prescribed to a hypertension patient are
thiazide diuretics, beta blockers, angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors, calcium channel
blockers, and renin inhibitors. Thiazide diuretics, also known as water pills, help improve the kidneys.
They eliminate the sodium (salt) and excess water which reduces the blood volume. Thiazide diuretics
are most commonly the first drug that is prescribed to a hypertension patient. These types of drugs
include hydrochlorothiazide (Microzide), chlorthalidone, and many others. Beta ... Show more content

The patient diagnosed with having high blood pressure could easily deny it. This means that they don t
want to believe that they do, in fact, have hypertension. However, denial could also be a result of the
patient not understanding what hypertension is and how it affects him/her. Once the patient is
diagnosed and understands what this means for him/her, this could lead to psychological distress. This
includes anxiety and depression. Anxiety and/or depression could come from simply knowing that
they have hypertension or from the medications that the patient is placed on to treat their high blood
pressure. These are considered as side effects of the medication rather than from the high blood
pressure itself, although that is possible. Depression is a feeling of sadness, hopelessness, or a feeling
of being discouraged. Anxiety is a feeling of worry or nervousness. The family of a patient who is
diagnosed with hypertension would be affected by the response of the patient. Seeing their loved one
in distress caused by the challenges that he/she faces to treat their high blood pressure or even the
depression or anxiety can lead to psychological distress among the family itself. This means that the
loved one could become depressed or have anxiety. However, this can also be due to the expense of
the treatment. High levels of depression and anxiety in either the patient or family can lead to horrible
events such as an abuse of alcohol or controlled substances, a lack of motivation for life, or in extreme
cases, suicide. Even though hypertension can be a hard thing to cope with, there are some methods
that can help. Some methods could include meditating or yoga. This relaxes the patient and family
while also providing a form of physical activity. Another way for the patient and even the family to
cope could be exercising. Although exercise alone may not completely

King s Injustice In A Birmingham Jail
King writes about the injustices imposed specifically on Blacks, and the need for the United States to
recognize and annul these wrongdoings. In his letter, King is in a Birmingham jail, arrested for
protesting segregation. He wasn t willing to sit on the sidelines of the fight for equality while his
brothers and sisters fought and died for their cause. He was willing to sacrifice everything for this
cause. He responds to his fellow clergymen that called his actions unwise and untimely , usually not
responding to such inquiries, except this specific case, he realized that they had pure intentions and he
felt it his duty to try to help them understand his cause. He has so much passion for justice; it was his

The Case Of Brown V. Board Of Education Of Topeka
In 1954, The United States Supreme Court made a landmark decision with its ruling in the case of
Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka. The ruling was a monumental one for multiple reasons.
Firstly, it was a major step in the Civil Rights Movement as it ended the legal use of separate but equal
facilities, under the ruling that this violated the Fourteenth Amendment s Equal Protection Clause. It
gave African Americans access to better schools, and also gave them a greater sense of dignity as they
no longer could be legally forced to drink from different fountains or sit in separate sections. Another
aspect of the decision that makes it so significant is the fact that it did the rare task of overturning a
previous Supreme Court decision, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He believed that in order to understand law, one must first realize what law s purpose is. He, like
Thomas, argued that law s purpose it to benefit society by creating a morally sound order to human
action and conduct. He detailed seven goods that he believed to be intrinsic and universal, and argued
that laws should be enforced under the stipulation that they adhere to the enhancement of these goods,
because they are what determines a fulfilling life. They are: life, knowledge, play, aesthetic
experience, sociability, practical reasonableness, and religion. The goods that relate to the thesis of this
paper the most are knowledge and sociability, as the result of the case has a direct benefit on them and
is, therefore, moral and legitimate. Legal positivists, however, disagree that morality has any place in
determining what legitimate law is. H. L. A. Hart based much of his theory on the previous legal
positivist John Austin s work. Austin believed that laws obtain their legitimacy from the recognition of
a society s members in the authority of their unruled ruler. This unruled entity that enforces laws with
the backing of sanctions, is what Austin terms the sovereign. He believed that in order for a sovereign
to exist it had to be habitually complied with by those it governs. What separates Austin s theory from
natural law theories is that he did not believe that laws had to be created or followed on the basis of
morality. According to Austin s

Coffee Is The Best Beans Essay
Coffee connoisseurs love nothing more than a cup of freshly brewed coffee. There was a time when
getting the best beans and roasting them at home was not possible for everyone. With the advent of
sophisticated coffee machines, it is now possible for everyone roast the coffee in the comfort of their
homes. But there s still the problem of getting the best beans. Not everyone is aware or has experience
on how to buy the best coffee beans. If you love your coffee and love to roast the beans at home then
you need to find best beans. Coffee beans are of different types depending on their grade and the place
where they were grown. Another factor that affects the coffee taste is the freshness of the beans. You
must buy the freshest beans and not the ones that have been stored in a warehouse for number of
years. While buying coffee beans, the first thing you must look for is their grade and the place where
they were grown. The most popular and commonly available beans are Costa Rican Tarrazu, Kenya
AA, Guatemalan Antigua, Ethiopian Yirgacheffe, Brazilian Santos, Sumatra Mandheling, Mexican
Altura, Jamaican Blue Mountain, Colombian Supremo and Tanzanian Peaberry. All these beans are
rich in aroma and flavour and are named after the place where they were grown. The taste differs and
depends on the climate, soil and height at which the beans were grown. If you are not familiar with all
the bean types, you may want to try them at your local café. The next thing you must decide is

References to Sue s Homosexuality in Thomas Hardy s Jude the Obscure
Perhaps the most interesting character in Thomas Hardy s Jude the Obscure is Susanna Florence Mary
Bridehead (Sue). Throughout the novel, she is described as everything from boyish and sexless, all the
way to Voltairean and just simply unconventional. Some claim she had read prolifically many writers
noted for their frankness and/or indecency (Hardy 118). Upon a surface reading, one can t help but
wonder about the sexual identity and desires of Sue. At first, there seems to be none; however, upon a
deeper reading of the novel, I can t help but suspect that Sue is actually a lesbian.

In fact, the conception of all three of her children is conveniently skipped in the text. Take into
consideration Jude s previous behavior with Arabella he is a man with an enormous sex drive and
probably next to impossible to fight off night after night, especially living in the same house with him.
He is, indeed, powerfully sexed (Howe 514), and her relationship with Jude is one that she accepted
with distaste (Gosse 390). He is often stealing kisses and she is continually asking him to stop. As
cousins, and similar in many ways, these two isolated people completed each other and needed each
other, but their relationship shouldn t have been physical. As Ingham informs us in the introduction,
Sue says, We ought to have lived in mental communion, and no more (xx). Ingham also states that Sue
inspires the spirit side of Jude s nature, whereas Arabella supplies the flesh side (xii).
Early in the novel, when Jude and Sue are first getting to know each other, she tells him that she has
no fear of men and that she has mixed with them almost as one of their own sex (Hardy 118). In fact,
she could be discussing the undergraduate that she lived with for a short time, who wanted to be her
lover, but she saw him as a best friend. This passage depicts a woman who has nothing against men
and enjoys their company, but who is in no way sexually interested in them. Furthermore, in part
three, Sue tells Jude that she is a virgin: I have

Analysis Of The Poem Of His Coy Mistress By Andrew...
Ryan James
Mrs. Dawson
English II
21 September 2014
Seize the Day in To His Coy Mistress In the poem To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell, the poet
suggests that time is a limited resource, and one must live life at the moment. In the first stanza, the
speaker conveys flattery to his addressee (his mistress), revealing how he would endlessly admire her
body if time weren t an issue, and if she wasn t so shy. Conveying this sense of flattery, he hopes it
will convince her to have sex with him. In the second stanza, the speaker then uses scare tactics in an
attempt to make love to her the speaker references eternal death and how they wouldn t be able to
have sex in their graves. The only option would be to have sex at that moment! In the third, and final,
stanza, the speaker conveys sexual urgency, his last resort in successfully convincing her to indulge in
intercourse with him. The speaker describes how they should do it while they re young and still have
the desire, before time runs out. Therefore, the poem communicates the theme of carpe diem, or, the
idea that time is limited, and the speaker and his mistress should enjoy the present without concern for
the future. In the first stanza, the speaker uses various forms of flattery to convince his coy mistress to
make love and live in the moment. In the first few lines, the speaker communicates to his addressee,
the mistress, that if had we but world enough, and time, (1), meaning, if time

Essay On Australian Migration Act 1958
Legal relevant laws:
Australian Migration Act 1958:
Australian Federal law states that any non Australian citizens who do not have a valid visa is to be
detained, regardless of circumstances for a strictly limited period designed to obtain basic information
about health, identity, security and basic information that supports a visa claim, may form a legitimate
part of a system of immigration controls, as long as the detention is subject to effective review by a
court.
The people who do not have these valid documents are generally refugees and asylum seekers who
have fled their country for their safety. They are denied the right for entrance into Australia due to the
Australian Migration Act 1958 and are put in detention centres indefinitely.
The Issue with Australian Law
Those detained may only be released if granted a visa or removed from Australia, children are no
exception to this. Detainment facilities are usually detention centres that are either in remote ... Show

The housing project has a calmer, quieter atmosphere and allowed detainees to exercise more freedom
than detention centres. What should be changed is that there should be more housing projects around
Australia to accommodate more immigrants as a much better alternative than detention centres. They
should also be more inclusive of the qualifications required to be eligible to be in the residential
housing project.
Children and their families should not be split up
In residential housing projects the children were only allowed to stay with the mother but the father
was to stay in the detention centres. This separation of family exacerbates the already fragile mental
state of families. Instead the father should be allowed to stay with their families in the housing
projects, which would be more beneficial to not only the families but the Government as it would
require less resources when they try to unite the families again.

What Is Comfort Zone Essay
Comfort zone is a situation where one feels safe and at ease. It is a type of behaviour that keeps us at a
steadily Low anxiety level. Something that we do all the time, like taking the bus to school, watching
television programmes and checking out social media platforms are part of our comfort zones. These
everyday activities that we are used to will not make us feel anxious and uneasy. We like to stay in our
comfort zone even though we are bored of being in the comfort zone. When we see the struggle that
others go through to achieve something in life , we will be scared of the numerous challenges that we
may face. However, it is important that we leave our comfort zone for self improvement so as to
achieve success.
Getting out of our comfort zone is crucial and it will benefit us. One of the benefits is that we will find
it easier to push our boundaries in the future. Once we start stepping out of our comfort zone, it gets
easier to learn new skills and gain new knowledge over time. To illustrate my point, in order to

The Three Faces of Eve and dissociative identity disorder
Although dissociative identity disorder (formerly called multiple personality disorder) is extremely
rare and difficult to diagnose, it seems to be awfully popular with numerous Hollywood
interpretations. The Three Faces of Eve does a fairly admirable job of conveying the disorder even
though information defining the illness was (and still is) limited at the time the movie was made.
Eve White, Eve Black, and Jane, all played by Joanne Woodward, had distinct personalities. Eve
White was the quiet, submissive homemaker who loved her husband and adored her little girl. She had
very little personality and was displayed as being in a depressed state. Eve Black, on the other hand,
was Mrs. White s polar opposite. She was flirtatious, enjoyed an ... Show more content on

It is easy to tell when Ms. Black is being portrayed with her change in clothes, makeup and flirtatious
behavior in certain scenes, but when the actual switch is occurring on camera, the film makers had to
have a way of ensuring the audience would be able to catch on.
This brings up the methodology used in the treatment of the patient. There are many possible
treatments that are available, including relaxation therapy, cognitive modification, drugs and sedatives,
and hypnotherapy. The later of these causes great debates among the psychological community and is
denounced by many, yet it is the therapy of choice in the film. Hypnosis, though used by so few
psychologists and psychiatrists, seems to be among the top used therapies in movies. Though the
process used in this particular film to place the patient in a hypnotic state seems to be more realistic
than those used in many other movies, it is still lacking. The process of placing oneself or another
person in a hypnotic state is a fairly intense procedure of relaxation.
Though, like the movie portrays, counting (backwards or forwards) is often used in hypnosis, it
frequently is preceded by a brief, calming story of sorts to clear the patient s head and place him/her in
a calm state of mind. There may be better, more efficient ways to treat a patient with dissociative
identity disorder, but the movie itself would not be nearly as exciting or intriguing to

How to Sharpen Hockey Skates Essay
The most important part of a hockey player s gear is their skates. To be more precise the blades on the
skates are the most important, because that is what is in contact with the ice to allow the player to
generate traction to move around the ice with ease. So the equipment manager or anyone else who has
the job of sharpens someone s hockey skates need to have the knowledge to be able to sharpen
someone skates perfectly. They have to know the correct process to sharpen skates to perfection every

Dressing the finish wheel is of utmost importance to ensure that the skates have parallel edges and a
good hollow. The next step of the process is to start sharpening the skate blades. First you clamp the
skate in the clamp with the toe to the front of the clamp, and then lock the blade in tightly. Next slowly
slide the skate across the wheel being sure not to over rounding the toe and heel of blade too much.
Complete this step about 10 times for a blade that has not first gone over the cross grinding wheel. For
a blade that has gone across the cross grinding wheel do this step until the cross grinding marks are
gone. Then unclamp and do the same to the second skate blade. As soon as you finish the number of
passes on the skates you check the blade of levelness or parallel edges on both sides of the blade. You
do this step by setting the gauge in the front, middle, and back of the skate if the gray line on the level,
is level all the way across go on to the final step. If the edges are unlevel when you put the gauge, on
you must figure out if the knobs on the clamp have to be turned up or down in the front or the back or
both. To do this you look at which side the gray line is showing more of if it shows more on the left
side when the gauge is on the front you turn the knob down in the front of the clamp and vice versa for
the back. When gauge is placed in the middle of the blade, it should

once succeeding he realises the terrible mistake he has made and sets about trying to correct it by
murdering it. The Monster sets out for revenge killing family members one by one, ending with them

This is a form of expressionism, of how Branagh has created this movie from the adaptation of a novel
and managed to make it very powerful emotionally to the viewer.
The class structure of the film plays a big part in the story line, from Victor being at the top of the
upper class scale then coming down to the middle class such as the Nanny working for Victor s family
and then ending right down towards the lower class, the poverty of the working people in the town.
Throughout the story Victor and the Monster are both shown to be outsiders. Victor began to get ideas
in his head about being able to create a new life, starting to hide himself in his lab for weeks on end
studying and experimenting. He begins to lose touch with the outside world and becomes extremely
isolated. I think the Monster becomes alienated from the moment it is created. It breaks out of the lab,
which is ironic as Victor tries to lock himself in the lab, and roams the disease ridden streets. He is
exposed in the town and the townspeople immediately try to rid him from the town by chasing him
and using physical violence towards the Monster. The Monster fleas the town, actually wanting to
exclude himself from the outside world because of the way he looks and

Existence Of Ghost Research Paper
The Existence of Ghosts
In folklore, mythology, and modern media such as literary fiction, a ghost is the soul or spirit of a dead
person or animal that can appear, invisible form or other manifestation, to the living. (Wikipedia). The
existence of ghosts has always been an alerting and spooky, debatable motion that humans are curious
of. There have been countless amounts of evidence gathered by paranormal investigators or ghost
hunters. From videos of moving objects, recordings of voices from spirits through EVP, and even
pictures of ghosts themselves. All of which the world sees as undeniable or fraudulent evidence based
on one s own self belief. However, with numerous accounts of documentation from not only
paranormal investigators, but actual people from across the world, it s almost impossible to not believe
that such phenomenon exist on earth, and those who do not are just terrified to accept it.
To determining whether or not the existences of ghosts are true, there are many resources we use that
can gather massive information. To investigate if environmental fluctuations actually occur in haunted
locations, a television production company called Global Media Productions, Los Angeles, enlisted
the help of several technologies. The company used really specific thermometers to take temperature

Famine In Ireland In The 1800 s
In the early 1800 s, relations between Ireland and England were tense. The English were building their
support by enforcing plantations, pieces of land that once belonged to indigenous Catholic Irish and
putting the ownership to the incoming settlers from England and Scotland. Therefore, the
impoverished Irish rented their land out from the wealthier owners who resided miles and miles away.
In the 1800 s, the majority of Ireland was dependant on potatoes, as it was cheap and easy to grow for
the enormous poor population that resided there. In 1845, toxic disease spread through all of Europe s
potatoes, greatly affecting the Irish, who were enormously dependent on the crop. Because the strong
belief in the laissez faire policy, which prevents ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It can be argued that the reason the government failed to react as it should in time of crisis is because
of the widespread belief of laissez faire. This argument is flawed, as the strict rules against the
government s invasion of personal matters were broken on numerous occasions to benefit the British
landlords, who hired the police force to guard the ports while ships full of food left a starving Ireland.
John Mitchel, the leader of the Young Ireland Movement, wrote the following in 1860: The British
Prime Minister had violated every pledge previously made on arriving at place and power... but the
pity was that the minister was permitted to act so with impunity (NJCHE 4). The twisted version of
laissez faire that had corrupted the government was so normal and such a popular opinion, that they
were accumsed to the prominent wrongs the leaders were invoking on the Irish people. Not only that,
but there was an unspoken agreement that the concept of laissez faire was only a strict policy when
concerning the Irish, but when regarding the British people there was extreme flexibility. Furthermore,
Kinealy, in her book The Great Calamity, wrote, The underlying philosophy of the relief efforts was
that they should be kept to a minimalist level; in fact they actually decreased as the Famine progressed
(NJCHE 4). By the time the blight

Essay on Whispering in the Giants Ear by William Powers
Williams Powers, an ecotourist activist wrote in his book, Whispering in the Giants Ear, That which
we allow to exist, to flourish freely according to its own rhythms, is superior to anything our little
hands create. Ecotourism is defined as responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the
environment and improves the well being of local people.
Economical Impact Ecotourism plays a vital role in a nations economy. Many factors entail whether a
country can be successful economically. Ecotourism has thrived and failed, depending on how it was
operated. Once a country accepts money from their government to begin ecotourism, they will be
forever in debt. When the governments fronts the money, the government is in control. ... Show more

This was concerning to the government, but unlike the Philippines, the Costa Rican government
agreed with the locals to invest and trust in ecotourism for a decade. After nine years, in 1973, Costa
Rica had broke even. In 1974 they made over ten million. Ever since 1974, profits had come in
exponentially. From 1974 to 1994 over six hundred million was brought in. In 1999 for the first time
in Costa Rican history over one million ecotourists came to Costa Rica. They brought in over one
billion in revenue. Many speculate that the Philippines were on the same track, but the lack of
communication between the government and people proved catastrophic. Costa Rica is known as the
focal point for ecotourism worldwide.
Ecotourism began in Costa Rica in the 1970 s. It was very small and began to grow exponentially in
the late 1980 s. In 1970 Costa Rica had a GNP, gross national product of 1000 million in 1995 that
number nonuple to 9000 million. Many consider 1978 the first year ecotourism began in Costa Rica.
At that time, Costa Rica had a GNP/capita of 1500. After the ecotourism boom, the number ballooned
to 2000 in 1992. It is evident by the 33% increase in GNP/capita that ecotourism was a positive
influence economically on Costa Rica. Another key problem is that the economic benefit of
ecotourism does not always reach the local community. One of ecotourisms main goals is to help the
local community generate domestic employment and

College Essay About Wine
I m fascinated with wine, and I want to know all I can about wine: how it s made, and how the
industry works. I daydream about working long hard days on a vineyard, I tear up with happiness
while watching documentaries and reading books and articles about wine, and I always find myself
thoroughly investigating wine labels. Wine is interesting to me because so many components go into
the process of making it. Agriculture, science, communication, physical labor. It s thrilling, social,
personal, artistic and a learning process that never ends.
When I first started getting interested in the wine industry, and looking into possible careers, I knew it
was where I wanted to be and I felt more excited about my future than I ever had before. Last ... Show

While visiting Walla Walla last April, my mom and I visited Dunham Cellars and we talked with a
young man who works as the tasting room manager. He told us that he had recently graduated from
this program himself and explained how it really helped steer him to the right career in the industry.
He told us how he went into the program thinking he wanted to do vineyard work but then found
himself more attracted to the winery side of the industry which he didn t expect. I also have a family
friend who opened a winery in Seattle a few years ago, and then in 2012 purchased a vineyard in
Prosser, Washington where he now lives and works. We visited the vineyard after our stay in Walla
Walla and I felt so at home walking through the vines. I have big ambitions and ideas of where I want
to take my career but I know that could all change and I m open to that and excited to figure out where
I fit best by trying it all. I think wherever I end up I will be happy and excited about my career. I know

Introduction
Since man has looked to the heavens, he has used some form of identification to recognize the stars .
Early man named the constellations he could see in his own ways. Even the ancient Australian
Aboriginals used stories of the stars to identify times of the year for different things, be it song lines,
migration, vegetation growth and ripening, the list goes on. The Australian Aboriginals today still refer
to the Milky Way s galactic centre and coal sack nebula, as they are seen from earth, as the Emu; as it
traverses the sky and ultimately out of visual, the song line changes and talks about it crossing the
land. The point being that man has always used some form of classification to discuss objects within

Much like climatologists looking at global warming, gather data to see what has from looking at core
samples of the permafrost, using this data to make reasonable hypotheses about what our climate will
do in the future; we, humans, want to know more about what s happening in the universe, including
confirming the assumption that life exists beyond our solar system. To do this, Astronomers when
looking to the skies, are looking into the past. Why? One of the universal constants, light. Light has a
finite speed and as a result of the tyranny of distance, light can only travel so far in a given Earth Year.
This means that when we are observing galaxies today, we are looking into the past, hundreds of
thousands of years to billions of years ago. However, just looking at galaxies is not good enough to be
able to make these hypotheses. Wolf

Theme Of Light In A Streetcar Named Desire
Light vs dark is a recurring theme in the play A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams. This
play circles around the main character Blanche and how she is trying to start a new life leaving her
past sins behind her. Slowly her past starts to catch up with her and eventually she has a downfall in
mental health and is sent away. Throughout this play there are many instances where the light and the
absence of light affects the character Blanche. She finds comfort in the darkness and it greatly
influences her connection with reality, the relationship she has with Mitch, and her slow mental
decline.
The motif light vs dark is prominent because it affects relationships in the story greatly, most
noticeably Blanches relationships. When Blanche ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the beginning of the play she is nonchalant about covering up light because she feels more put
together. She tells Mitch to put a little colored paper lantern... over the lightbulb because she can t
stand a naked lightbulb (Williams 60). This shows that she still cares about not being seen in the light
but not as much as later in the play. In scene 5 she refers to the lantern covering the light but she says
soft people have got to... put a paper lantern over the light... you ve got to be soft and attractive. And I
I m fading now, she s rambling about how she is not how she was in her youth (Williams 92). She s
stating that she needs that covering of the light to be the new , more pure and innocent, person she is
trying to be. Soon this darkness that she finds comfort in turns into shadows of grotesque and
menacing form, (Williams 159) haunting her thoughts as she is slowly grown more insane from her
past catching up to her. The darkness, which was once her safety net, has turned into her nightmare.
Light vs dark accentuates every aspect of Blanche s life and, in turn, affects the people around her.
The straining of Blanche s relationship with Mitch, her crumbling mental state, and her detachment
from reality are all seen through the motif light vs dark. Without this recurring image there would be
no lies and destruction of characters. The downfall of this character is brought by her use of darkness

Essay Coming of Age in Society
When growing up most of us has heard the saying, the apple does not fall far from the tree. This quote
is intended to tell a child that he or she is reflecting a trait similar to their parent. This quote does not
only reflect children as they mirror their parents, but also how a society mirrors its government. As a
child grows, he or she is taught to act a certain way through reinforcements given by the parents.
Reinforcements can be either positive or negative. A parent gives their child a yellow sticker to reward
him or her for picking up their toys. This is an example of a positive reinforcement because the parent
wants the child to repeat that behavior. If a parent takes away a child s toy to teach him or her that it is
wrong to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When a driver is pulled over for speeding, their license is taken away; therefore negative
reinforcement is being used. As a child grow up, he or she is usually lectured by their parent about
rules. Rules about curfew, television hours, computer hours, study hours, chores, and more. These
rules are set to help the child be more like the parent. If a parent does not like the act of burping and
believes it is improper, he or she may stop a child burping for the purpose of making the child act like
them, the parent might say no burping inside the house in a very strict manner. Similar to a
government, a government will make rules to help make society be more like the government. For
example, the constitution is full of laws to which we as a society are supposed to follow. These rules
were made by the government and therefore are in favor of the government s expected behavior. If our
society follows them, then aren t we acting in favor of their behavior, which is how they behave?
Sometime apples will fall far from the tree though, these are the rebellions. Going against a parent s
teaching and behavioral expectation is seen as bad and rebellious. For example if parent told their
child that ear piercings are not allowed and the child gets their ears pierced that following weekend he
or she is not following their parent s rule. In comparison society too, just as the child, can be
rebellious. For example, when their was an amendment that banished

Jim Webb will end his bid for the Democratic presidential nomination at a press conference Tuesday,
according to two sources with knowledge of the decision. The former Virginia senator who launched a
longshot presidential bid earlier this year is considering an independent run, according to his
campaign. Craig Crawford, Webb s spokesman, declined to comment on whether the senator was
dropping out of the Democratic race, however. Jim will have the first word at 1 p.m., Crawford said,
referring to the senator s press conference at the National Press Club in Washington. After a prolonged
exploration of a presidential bid, Webb used a more than 2,000 word blog post to announce his run.
His campaign, however, never really got off the ground and was seen by even some close Webb aides
as more of a vanity play than an actual presidential bid. In total, Webb spent four days campaigning in
New Hampshire and 20 days in Iowa, far fewer than the senator s challengers. ... Show more content

The Theory of Behaviorism
A significant piece of several psychological theories in the late nineteenth century was introspection,
which is the examination or observation of one s own mental and emotional processes (Press, 2013).
In retort to this theory behaviorism came about. Behaviorism is predominantly concerned with
observable and measurable aspects of human behavior. In other words behaviorism does not look at
the biological aspects but it suggests that all behaviors are learned habits and changes in response to
the environment. It endeavors to explain how these particular habits are formed. Behaviorism claimed
that the causes of behavior was not necessarily found in the complexities of the mind but could be
observed in one s immediate environment, from stimuli that produced, reinforced, and punished
certain responses also known later on as conditioning. It wasn t until the twentieth century that the
scientist began to discover the actual systems to learning, thereby laying a foundation for behaviorism.
A theorist by the name of Ivan Pavlov was a major contribution to the discovering of significant
behavioral theories.
Ivan Petrovich Pavlov was born on September 14, 1849 in the small village of Ryazan, Russia. He was
the son of Peter Dmitrievich Pavlov, who was the village s own priest. As the son of a priest, Ivan
went to church school and attended the theological seminary. The family hoped that Ivan would follow
in his father s footsteps and become a priest as well, but Ivan had other plans.

The story is written in 1st person because we are able to read what she is thinking and feeling even

Her marriage with Vernon is a big part of the story. As said earlier, they ve been married for a long

Comparing The Soul Selects Her Own Society And The Dresser
In the poems The Soul Selects Her Own Society, by Emily Dickinson, and The Dresser, by Walt
Whitman, one can see two drastically different ways of how the speaker is represented in poetry.
While Whitman s poem focuses on his volunteer work in the American Civil War, Dickinson s piece is
a much more simple and vague poem about choosing one s friends. Although both of these poems
focus on a person interacting with complete strangers, Whitman s speaker is transparent and central to
the poem, while Dickinson s speaker is essentially unknown to the reader and somewhat
inconsequential. In The Dresser, the speaker is the main focus of the poem, which results in the
speaker being transparent to the reader. In the poem, the speaker appears multiple times in each stanza,
and its title refers to the speaker. The poem even starts by introducing the speaker: An old man

Dickinson s poem talks about how people don t choose their friends knowingly, but rather their souls
choose their friends unconsciously, not being influenced by material desires. Whereas the speaker in
The Dresser is found multiple times in each stanza, the speaker in Dickinson s poem is only included
once: I ve known her from an ample nation Choose One (The Soul Selects Her Own Society, Emily
Dickinson). In representing the speaker in her poetry, Dickinson offers no introduction to the speaker
whatsoever; the speaker is a nameless character, completely unknown to the reader. Additionally, the
line in which the speaker appears barely contributes to the poem s meaning, only adding a simple
observation about the subject of the poem. Dickinson s way of representing the speaker in this way is
completely opposite to Whitman s method, whose speaker is transparent to the reader and essential to

Malic Acid Vs Inorganic Acid
An organic compound with acidic properties is called an organic acid. An inorganic acid or mineral
acid is an acid derived from one or more inorganic compounds. The reason that organic acids are
weaker than mineral acids is that organic acids do not separate completely in water, whereas strong
mineral acids do separate completely in water. Organic acids do not react with metals. Harsh mineral
acids on the other hand react forcefully with metals. Inorganic acids are derived from inorganic
compounds and mineral sources, while organic acids have a biological origin. Mineral acids do not
contain carbon and organic acids do contain carbon. Uric acid is an example of mineral acids. Uric
acid is soluble in water and is a hetero cyclic compound which is composed of the elements: carbon,
nitrogen, oxygen, and hydrogen. A real world example in which uric acid is used is that uric and
ascorbic acid in the human body provide over half of the antioxidant capacity in the bloodstream
which means it is very important in our lives. Oxalic acid is another example of an inorganic acid.
Oxalic acid is a colorless crystalline solid that dissolves in water and gives a colorless solution. A real
world application of oxalic acid is cleaning and bleaching agent, and is very effective in removing
rust.
Malic acid is a dicarboxylic acid that is made by all living organisms. It has a clean, mellow, smooth,
persistent sourness, so it can be used to enhance flavor and blending abilities. It contributes to the sour
taste of fruits and can also be used as a food additive. It is used for alcoholic apple ciders to maintain a
sharp taste. In wines, the malolactic fermentation improves the flavor of the wine. It is also used in
acne creams and moisturizers to remove dead skin cells and remove acne. Citric acid has a sour taste
and is greatly present in fruits such as oranges. It is also a popular ingredient in most types of candy,
especially in sour candies. It is a weak organic acid and is used as a safe cleaning product. Formic acid
is a colorless liquid with a highly pungent, penetrating odor at room temperature. Interestingly, it can
be found in the venom of ants. Lactic acid is a well known acid. It is produced from pyruvate via the
enzyme

Exports versus goods produced and sold in a foreign country
As indicated in International trade (2013):
International trade opens foreign markets to goods produced in the United States, including billions of
dollars in Caterpillar machines, engines and parts produced by our U.S. employees. In 2007, thanks to
growing demand around the world, Caterpillar s U.S. exports reached $12.7 billion and helped to
provide jobs for tens of thousands of Caterpillar and supplier employees in the United States. (p. 1)
Conversely, Caterpillar does obtain international plants abroad. They have leveraged this opportunity
to gain market share by producing a low cost product with unsurpassed quality. If exporting was their
only option, maintaining competitiveness through a low cost product may not be possible due to their
overseas competition.
As described above, increased tariffs on imported goods drives cost to the product. If the product and
its raw materials are made in the host country, tariffs will be eliminated. However, if a fixed exchange
rate was negotiated and labor in the home country was less expensive than the possible host country
than importation could be further considered. If the cost to produce goods at home and a fixed
exchange rate could drive the home country to export. A fixed exchange rate when it comes to taxation
and when it is applied along with the comparative advantage theory is actually good for importation of
goods.

Furthermore, the Industrial Production and Capacity Utilization are used to predict if inflation will
occur. The industrial production measures how many manufactured goods are produced and the
capacity utilization figure uses this information to create a ratio that determines whether there is a
supply shortage or not. These figures can help me to find out if it is a good time to seek a job in a
particular industry. For instance, right now the capacity utilization rate is at 81.9% in the mining
industry which shows that there is a limited amount of supply, so employment opportunities would be

To add, Retail Sales is an economic indicator that shows the comparison of sales in the retail industry

  • 2. Example Of Positional Data The positional data in the three dimensional space (latitude, longitude, and altitude) for EWR arrival flights, including all minute by minute arrival flight tracks were selected from FAAAircraft Situation Display to Industry (ASDI) data services. The ASDI information consists of components like flight plans, position reports, flight diversions, and cancellations. The position reports were the updates of aircraft positions every time when the computers were aware of a position amend (i.e. every 12 seconds for enroute RADAR or 5 seconds for TRACON). EWR airport arrival capacity, i.e. Airport Arrival Rate (AAR), is a dynamic parameter to specify the number of arrival aircraft that EWR airport can accept throughout a consecutive hour (or 15 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For each of the WAF files, the data include polygons of airspace regions where aircraft are likely to deviate around with corresponding avoidance probability thresholds, such as 80%. This data is available for each of the flight levels from 25,000 ft (FL250) up to 45,000 ft (FL450) in 1,000 ft increments. The center and sector Weather impacted traffic indexes were calculated using CIWS and flight data. C. Weather Impacted Traffic Index (WITI) Model WITI indicates how bad the weather was based on the number of aircraft affected by it. Over the past decade, WITI, at an aggregated national and regional level, has been well accepted as an indication of National Airspace System (NAS) air traffic delays due to it s strong correlation with the latter (for example, see Ref. 8). In this study, the airspace hourly WITI (center or sector) is defined by using the flight and weather in the 4 dimentional space inside the airspace S and time H, as: . Here i, j, k, and t are the latitude, longitude, altitude at a specific time t (in minute), respectively. T is the reference flight track segment at (i, j, k) and t on the reference day. W is assigned a value of 1 for the severe weather at location (i, j, k) and t, and a value of 0 otherwise. The reference days were identified as the days with no significant weather, but significant traffic demand and low NAS ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Ralph Waldo Emerson Self Reliance Quote Self reliance allows for an individual to see their own self value. Ralph Waldo Emerson has a quote that represents this aspect of self reliance, Greatness is a property for which no man can receive credit too soon; it must be possessed long before it is acknowledged. Self reliance has many different qualities including doing good and not expecting any praise because that person knows that they have done good and that should be enough for them. Ralph Waldo Emerson s quote shows how teens and Americans need to be self reliant and need to do great things without the final outcome for doing those great actions only being the acknowledgment of others. By being self reliant an individual is able to be happy knowing that they have greatness in them. It must be possessed long before it is acknowledged. (Emerson), meaning that in order for a man to be great they need to be able to do great things without the want of praise. Emerson also states, Greatness is a property for which no man can receive credit too soon. I take this to mean that greatness is not something that can be attained instantly and that someone needs to be self reliant before they can be considered great. Self reliance is a quality that is hard to achieve and in Emerson s quote he states ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My dad has taught me different lessons that show how to be a great person. Being a great person is not something that can happen easily. One of the first steps is accepting that a person should not do great things for the rewards that they will later receive but instead do great things just because. By doing great things with the intention of receiving a reward that person is being selfish. Being unselfish is another lesson that my dad would often teach me, because a great person should never be selfish. • 4. Hypertension With Rationale 5. Medical or Surgical Management of Hypertension with Rationale: There are many methods of treatment for hypertension. This includes exercise, a healthy diet, quitting smoking, and medications. Some medications that might be prescribed to a hypertension patient are thiazide diuretics, beta blockers, angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors, calcium channel blockers, and renin inhibitors. Thiazide diuretics, also known as water pills, help improve the kidneys. They eliminate the sodium (salt) and excess water which reduces the blood volume. Thiazide diuretics are most commonly the first drug that is prescribed to a hypertension patient. These types of drugs include hydrochlorothiazide (Microzide), chlorthalidone, and many others. Beta ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The patient diagnosed with having high blood pressure could easily deny it. This means that they don t want to believe that they do, in fact, have hypertension. However, denial could also be a result of the patient not understanding what hypertension is and how it affects him/her. Once the patient is diagnosed and understands what this means for him/her, this could lead to psychological distress. This includes anxiety and depression. Anxiety and/or depression could come from simply knowing that they have hypertension or from the medications that the patient is placed on to treat their high blood pressure. These are considered as side effects of the medication rather than from the high blood pressure itself, although that is possible. Depression is a feeling of sadness, hopelessness, or a feeling of being discouraged. Anxiety is a feeling of worry or nervousness. The family of a patient who is diagnosed with hypertension would be affected by the response of the patient. Seeing their loved one in distress caused by the challenges that he/she faces to treat their high blood pressure or even the depression or anxiety can lead to psychological distress among the family itself. This means that the loved one could become depressed or have anxiety. However, this can also be due to the expense of the treatment. High levels of depression and anxiety in either the patient or family can lead to horrible events such as an abuse of alcohol or controlled substances, a lack of motivation for life, or in extreme cases, suicide. Even though hypertension can be a hard thing to cope with, there are some methods that can help. Some methods could include meditating or yoga. This relaxes the patient and family while also providing a form of physical activity. Another way for the patient and even the family to cope could be exercising. Although exercise alone may not completely ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In his letter, King is in a Birmingham jail, arrested for protesting segregation. • 6. The Case Of Brown V. Board Of Education Of Topeka In 1954, The United States Supreme Court made a landmark decision with its ruling in the case of Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka. The ruling was a monumental one for multiple reasons. Firstly, it was a major step in the Civil Rights Movement as it ended the legal use of separate but equal facilities, under the ruling that this violated the Fourteenth Amendment s Equal Protection Clause. It gave African Americans access to better schools, and also gave them a greater sense of dignity as they no longer could be legally forced to drink from different fountains or sit in separate sections. Another aspect of the decision that makes it so significant is the fact that it did the rare task of overturning a previous Supreme Court decision, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He believed that in order to understand law, one must first realize what law s purpose is. He, like Thomas, argued that law s purpose it to benefit society by creating a morally sound order to human action and conduct. He detailed seven goods that he believed to be intrinsic and universal, and argued that laws should be enforced under the stipulation that they adhere to the enhancement of these goods, because they are what determines a fulfilling life. They are: life, knowledge, play, aesthetic experience, sociability, practical reasonableness, and religion. The goods that relate to the thesis of this paper the most are knowledge and sociability, as the result of the case has a direct benefit on them and is, therefore, moral and legitimate. Legal positivists, however, disagree that morality has any place in determining what legitimate law is. H. L. A. Hart based much of his theory on the previous legal positivist John Austin s work. Austin believed that laws obtain their legitimacy from the recognition of a society s members in the authority of their unruled ruler. This unruled entity that enforces laws with the backing of sanctions, is what Austin terms the sovereign. He believed that in order for a sovereign to exist it had to be habitually complied with by those it governs. What separates Austin s theory from natural law theories is that he did not believe that laws had to be created or followed on the basis of morality. According to Austin s ... • 8. References to Sue s Homosexuality in Thomas Hardy s Jude... References to Sue s Homosexuality in Thomas Hardy s Jude the Obscure Perhaps the most interesting character in Thomas Hardy s Jude the Obscure is Susanna Florence Mary Bridehead (Sue). Throughout the novel, she is described as everything from boyish and sexless, all the way to Voltairean and just simply unconventional. Some claim she had read prolifically many writers noted for their frankness and/or indecency (Hardy 118). Upon a surface reading, one can t help but wonder about the sexual identity and desires of Sue. At first, there seems to be none; however, upon a deeper reading of the novel, I can t help but suspect that Sue is actually a lesbian. Take into consideration Jude s previous behavior with Arabella he is a man with an enormous sex drive and probably next to impossible to fight off night after night, especially living in the same house with him. He is, indeed, powerfully sexed (Howe 514), and her relationship with Jude is one that she accepted with distaste (Gosse 390). He is often stealing kisses and she is continually asking him to stop. As cousins, and similar in many ways, these two isolated people completed each other and needed each other, but their relationship shouldn t have been physical. As Ingham informs us in the introduction, Sue says, We ought to have lived in mental communion, and no more (xx). Ingham also states that Sue inspires the spirit side of Jude s nature, whereas Arabella supplies the flesh side (xii). Early in the novel, when Jude and Sue are first getting to know each other, she tells him that she has no fear of men and that she has mixed with them almost as one of their own sex (Hardy 118). In fact, she could be discussing the undergraduate that she lived with for a short time, who wanted to be her lover, but she saw him as a best friend. This passage depicts a woman who has nothing against men and enjoys their company, but who is in no way sexually interested in them. Ryan James Mrs. Dawson English II 21 September 2014 Seize the Day in To His Coy Mistress In the poem To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell, the poet suggests that time is a limited resource, and one must live life at the moment. In the first stanza, the speaker conveys flattery to his addressee (his mistress), revealing how he would endlessly admire her body if time weren t an issue, and if she wasn t so shy. Conveying this sense of flattery, he hopes it will convince her to have sex with him. In the second stanza, the speaker then uses scare tactics in an attempt to make love to her the speaker references eternal death and how they wouldn t be able to have sex in their graves. The only option would be to have sex at that moment! In the third, and final, stanza, the speaker conveys sexual urgency, his last resort in successfully convincing her to indulge in intercourse with him. The speaker describes how they should do it while they re young and still have the desire, before time runs out. Therefore, the poem communicates the theme of carpe diem, or, the idea that time is limited, and the speaker and his mistress should enjoy the present without concern for the future. In the first stanza, the speaker uses various forms of flattery to convince his coy mistress to make love and live in the moment. Essay On Australian Migration Act 1958 Legal relevant laws: Australian Migration Act 1958: Australian Federal law states that any non Australian citizens who do not have a valid visa is to be detained, regardless of circumstances for a strictly limited period designed to obtain basic information about health, identity, security and basic information that supports a visa claim, may form a legitimate part of a system of immigration controls, as long as the detention is subject to effective review by a court. The people who do not have these valid documents are generally refugees and asylum seekers who have fled their country for their safety. They are denied the right for entrance into Australia due to the Australian Migration Act 1958 and are put in detention centres indefinitely. Children and their families should not be split up In residential housing projects the children were only allowed to stay with the mother but the father was to stay in the detention centres. This separation of family exacerbates the already fragile mental state of families. Something that we do all the time, like taking the bus to school, watching television programmes and checking out social media platforms are part of our comfort zones. These everyday activities that we are used to will not make us feel anxious and uneasy. We like to stay in our comfort zone even though we are bored of being in the comfort zone. • 12. The Three Faces of Eve and dissociative identity disorder Although dissociative identity disorder (formerly called multiple personality disorder) is extremely rare and difficult to diagnose, it seems to be awfully popular with numerous Hollywood interpretations. The Three Faces of Eve does a fairly admirable job of conveying the disorder even though information defining the illness was (and still is) limited at the time the movie was made. Eve White, Eve Black, and Jane, all played by Joanne Woodward, had distinct personalities. Eve White was the quiet, submissive homemaker who loved her husband and adored her little girl. She had very little personality and was displayed as being in a depressed state. Eve Black, on the other hand, was Mrs. White s polar opposite. She was flirtatious, enjoyed an ... It is easy to tell when Ms. Black is being portrayed with her change in clothes, makeup and flirtatious behavior in certain scenes, but when the actual switch is occurring on camera, the film makers had to have a way of ensuring the audience would be able to catch on. This brings up the methodology used in the treatment of the patient. There are many possible treatments that are available, including relaxation therapy, cognitive modification, drugs and sedatives, and hypnotherapy. The later of these causes great debates among the psychological community and is denounced by many, yet it is the therapy of choice in the film. Hypnosis, though used by so few psychologists and psychiatrists, seems to be among the top used therapies in movies. Though the process used in this particular film to place the patient in a hypnotic state seems to be more realistic than those used in many other movies, it is still lacking. The process of placing oneself or another person in a hypnotic state is a fairly intense procedure of relaxation. Though, like the movie portrays, counting (backwards or forwards) is often used in hypnosis, it frequently is preceded by a brief, calming story of sorts to clear the patient s head and place him/her in a calm state of mind. There may be better, more efficient ways to treat a patient with dissociative identity disorder, but the movie itself would not be nearly as exciting or intriguing to ... Next slowly slide the skate across the wheel being sure not to over rounding the toe and heel of blade too much. The English were building their support by enforcing plantations, pieces of land that once belonged to indigenous Catholic Irish and putting the ownership to the incoming settlers from England and Scotland. Therefore, the impoverished Irish rented their land out from the wealthier owners who resided miles and miles away. In the 1800 s, the majority of Ireland was dependant on potatoes, as it was cheap and easy to grow for the enormous poor population that resided there. It can be argued that the reason the government failed to react as it should in time of crisis is because of the widespread belief of laissez faire. This argument is flawed, as the strict rules against the government s invasion of personal matters were broken on numerous occasions to benefit the British landlords, who hired the police force to guard the ports while ships full of food left a starving Ireland. John Mitchel, the leader of the Young Ireland Movement, wrote the following in 1860: The British Prime Minister had violated every pledge previously made on arriving at place and power... but the pity was that the minister was permitted to act so with impunity (NJCHE 4). The twisted version of laissez faire that had corrupted the government was so normal and such a popular opinion, that they were accumsed to the prominent wrongs the leaders were invoking on the Irish people. Not only that, but there was an unspoken agreement that the concept of laissez faire was only a strict policy when concerning the Irish, but when regarding the British people there was extreme flexibility. Essay on Whispering in the Giants Ear by William Powers Williams Powers, an ecotourist activist wrote in his book, Whispering in the Giants Ear, That which we allow to exist, to flourish freely according to its own rhythms, is superior to anything our little hands create. Ecotourism is defined as responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment and improves the well being of local people. Economical Impact Ecotourism plays a vital role in a nations economy. Many factors entail whether a country can be successful economically. From 1974 to 1994 over six hundred million was brought in. In 1999 for the first time in Costa Rican history over one million ecotourists came to Costa Rica. They brought in over one billion in revenue. Many speculate that the Philippines were on the same track, but the lack of communication between the government and people proved catastrophic. Costa Rica is known as the focal point for ecotourism worldwide. Ecotourism began in Costa Rica in the 1970 s. It was very small and began to grow exponentially in the late 1980 s. In 1970 Costa Rica had a GNP, gross national product of 1000 million in 1995 that number nonuple to 9000 million. Many consider 1978 the first year ecotourism began in Costa Rica. At that time, Costa Rica had a GNP/capita of 1500. After the ecotourism boom, the number ballooned to 2000 in 1992. It is evident by the 33% increase in GNP/capita that ecotourism was a positive influence economically on Costa Rica. If a parent does not like the act of burping and believes it is improper, he or she may stop a child burping for the purpose of making the child act like them, the parent might say no burping inside the house in a very strict manner. • 26. The Theory of Behaviorism A significant piece of several psychological theories in the late nineteenth century was introspection, which is the examination or observation of one s own mental and emotional processes (Press, 2013). In retort to this theory behaviorism came about. Behaviorism is predominantly concerned with observable and measurable aspects of human behavior. In other words behaviorism does not look at the biological aspects but it suggests that all behaviors are learned habits and changes in response to the environment. It endeavors to explain how these particular habits are formed. Behaviorism claimed that the causes of behavior was not necessarily found in the complexities of the mind but could be observed in one s immediate environment, from stimuli that produced, reinforced, and punished certain responses also known later on as conditioning. It wasn t until the twentieth century that the scientist began to discover the actual systems to learning, thereby laying a foundation for behaviorism. A theorist by the name of Ivan Pavlov was a major contribution to the discovering of significant behavioral theories. The reason that organic acids are weaker than mineral acids is that organic acids do not separate completely in water, whereas strong mineral acids do separate completely in water. Organic acids do not react with metals. Harsh mineral acids on the other hand react forcefully with metals. Inorganic acids are derived from inorganic compounds and mineral sources, while organic acids have a biological origin. Mineral acids do not contain carbon and organic acids do contain carbon. Uric acid is an example of mineral acids. Uric acid is soluble in water and is a hetero cyclic compound which is composed of the elements: carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, and hydrogen. A real world example in which uric acid is used is that uric and ascorbic acid in the human body provide over half of the antioxidant capacity in the bloodstream which means it is very important in our lives. Oxalic acid is another example of an inorganic acid. Oxalic acid is a colorless crystalline solid that dissolves in water and gives a colorless solution. A real world application of oxalic acid is cleaning and bleaching agent, and is very effective in removing rust. Malic acid is a dicarboxylic acid that is made by all living organisms.
