Dreams From My Father Analysis
The keynote address at the 2004 Democratic National Convention, was presented by the Illinois State
Senator, United States senatorial candidate, and future President Barack Obama on Tuesday, July 27,
2004. His unexpected landslide victory in the March 2004 Illinois U.S. Senate Democratic primary
made him a rising star within the national Democratic Party overnight, started speculation about a
presidential future, and led to the reissue of his memoir, Dreams from My Father. His keynote address
grew popular which then further elevated his status within the Democratic Party and led to his
reissued memoir becoming an all time bestseller. America has the inherent potential to offer hope to
anyone, regardless of their background or expect rences; however, in order to ensure that opportunities
exist for all in a secure, functional, and sustainable national environment, a number of key policy

He then moves on to talking about how the changes in the accoutrements of middle class life, today
many american families are forced to have both parents working full time outside of the home.
Though sometimes this is not ideal, it is difficult to balance work, other responsibilities and take care
of the household, republicans seeking to impose a more traditional family household and structure, he
explains how there is no realistic solution.
Obama concludes the audacity of hope by recanting the time leading up to his delivery of his keynote
address, at the 2004 democratic convention. He sends gratitude for the sudden fame which was
afforded him. He then follows up with explaining that no matter where his political career takes him in
the future, he vows to remain perspective, humor, and humility as well as overarching commitment to
greater good which was responsible for inspiring him to go into public

Communication Apprehension And Learning Styles
I, am a very private person, as well as a student. As students we are faced with the ever present threat
of teachers who call on us even when our heads are down taking notes and our hands are not raised.
As a student and a very private person I have come to detest these occurrences. However while doing
some research I came across an article written by Dr. Travis L. Russ professor of Communications and
Media Management at Fordham University in New York about communication apprehension and
learning styles. In this article Dr. Russ says that there is a coloration between people with high
communication apprehension and learning better from reflective work and thinking, while people with
a lower amount of communication apprehension prefer to do direct experiments (Russ, 2012). When I
share things that I am thinking there is usually a long pause in between the questions asked and my
answer, which is caused by me making sure that what I say is not especially revealing towards my
inner thoughts. When I was in Advanced Public Speaking the hardest presentation for me to give was
the speech of introduction. I hate doing those even if I am just sitting down at a desk posting a
recording of it I still get extremely anxious over what I have said, what if I offend someone? did that
sound too harsh? I hope they don t think I m weird. These things are a constant when I am preparing
to talk about myself. I believe that by looking at Social Penetration Theory we can better

Solid Phase Of Polymer Bound 2
A 1,3,4 thiadiazole library was constructed by solid phase organic synthesis. The key step of this solid
phase synthesis involves the preparation of polymer bound 2 amido 5 amino 1,3,4 thiadiazole resin by
the cyclization of thiosemicarbazide resin using p TsCl as the desulfurative agent, followed by the
functionalization of resin by alkylation, acylation, alkylation/acylation, and Suzuki coupling reaction.
Both the alkylation and acylation reactions chemoselectively occurred at the 2 amide position of 2
amido 5 amino 1,3,4 thiadiazole resin and the 5 amine position of 2 amido 5 amino 1,3,4 thiadiazole
resin, respectively. Finally, these functionalized 1,3,4 thiadiazole resins were treated with

oxadiazole and 1,3,4 thiadiazole toward signal transducers and activators of transcription.11 Because
of these biologically interesting properties of 1,3,4 thiadiazole and 1,3,4 oxadiazole, these core
skeletons have been targeted for synthesis by organic and medicinal chemists, and as a result, many
synthetic methodologies have been developed in the literature.12 Among these synthetic
methodologies, solid phase synthesis effectively facilitates the generation of various 1,3,4 thiadiazoles
and 1,3,4 oxadiazoles in a short time.13 In our own research area, we have developed solid phase
synthetic methodology to produce 1,3,4 oxadiazoles and 1,3,4 thiadiazoles.14 However, unfortunately
our methodology was limited to synthesize diverse 1,3,4 thiadiazole derivatives. It was only suitable
to generate p nitro substituted 1,3,4 thiadiazoles (Scheme 1a). To improve over

Media And Havens
Much change in the global media by means of mergers and increased concentration has resulted in the
limited diversity of content. In addition, the media consolidation does not only effect the content but
the ownership and employment opportunities. Winseck (2011) and Havens (2014), both discuss the
media mostly in the United States and other parts of the world; comparisons can be drawn to relate to
Canadian media. Different theories have been developed around the capitalistic nature of the media
corporation on the creativity and diversity of media (Havens, 2014). The following will examine the
current standings of the large media corporations in the United States and other countries. In addition,
the focus will be put upon the effects of consolidation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The corporations have the capacity to censor or alter important issues that go against their political or
ideological positions in the news and in other media outlets. Media can affect and shape public views
on numerous issues by leading them in a way that fits in with the views of the organization. Since the
media companies have consolidated individuals are less exposed to outside views or particular
viewpoints to issues. The current issue can fit within the realm of propaganda, people watch and read
what is available and intensely promoted (Chomsky Herman, 2002). If powerful corporations merge
with others they are able to send out their own message and as frequently as they would like. In the
news, broadcasters can exaggerate what their own points of views are on certain subjects to make
individuals alter their own beliefs, as a result (Chomsky Herman, 2002). However, we can also argue
that with current technologies individuals can go beyond the news to get their information by using
the web for example. With the current technologies, individuals can also verify is statements made by
the media contain some truth. What would be interesting to look at would be the racial and gender
composition of media corporations and its effect on the diversity of media. Furthermore, the analysis
of media consolidation proves to be beneficial in the eyes of capitalism.

Making Cars Lighter Cars Safer Cars
Making Cars Lighter Cars have been around for many years. The first car to move off its own power
was in 1769, and 1989 the average weight of a car was about 3,000 pounds. Overtime, cars have been
through many changes and improvements. Car makers are constantly in search of improving cars to be
better than the last. Can lighter cars be safer? Can the fuel economy benefit if the production of lighter
cars were to increase? And lastly, what are alternative composites car makers can invest in? Making
cars lighter will not only make them safer, but they will also greatly benefit the fuel economy. Even
though we may have the technology to build lighter and safer cars, the cost affects puts this change on
hold. Changing a cars build will increase the price on cars and car makers will lose buyers. So instead,
car makers will continue to build heavy, gas guzzling, killing machines. Just about since birth, we
have been passengers in a car. Then later down the years, we become the drivers. When you think
about it, we put ourselves in danger every time we get behind the wheel or just in for the ride. Imagine
if you are driving a compact car and crash into a half ton pickup truck. The passengers in the truck
will walk away with little to no injuries, while you will possibly sustain serious injuries and
potentially death.
The heavier car increased the expectation of fatalities by 0.00027 per car 27 deaths per 100,000 such
vehicles.
The people in the compact car are 10 times more

Mexican Americans Essay
Starting in the late nineteenth century until the end of World War II, the immigration policy in the
United States experienced dramatic changes that altered the pace of immigration. High rates of
immigration sparked adverse emotions and encouraged restrictive legislation and numerous bills in
Congress advocated the suspension of immigration and the deportation of non Americans (Wisconsin
Historical Society). Mexican American history was shaped by several bills in Congress and efforts to
deport all non Americans from the United States. The United States was home to several Spanish
origin groups, prior to the Declaration of Independence. The term Mexican American was a label used
to describe a number of Hispanic American groups that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mexican Americans and American Indians have been traditionally more disadvantaged than other
Americans in regards to income, and education (Mitz). According to the 2007 U.S. Census Bureau
report, 21.5 percent of Mexican Americans and 25 percent of American Indians live at or below the
poverty level (Health). However, both groups have been able to maintain a large majority of their
traditions when compared to other Americans. Their traditions and culture can be seen through
religious beliefs, value systems, cuisine, and economic structures (Healey). Despite over a century of
powerful attempts to Americanize both Mexican Americans and American Indians, both groups have
successfully been able to preserve their heritage and traditions. Mexican Americans also shared
problems of poverty and discrimination with African Americans. According to Healy, Mexican
Americans, like African Americans, have been viewed as cheap, unskilled agricultural labor that has
been methodically excluded from mainstream America. Unlike most immigrants from Europe, who
lived in urban areas, Mexican Americans and African Americans were prone to live and work in rural
parts of the United States. Because both groups lived in less urban areas they had limited resources for
education, skill development and economic opportunities. At the same time, however, Mexican

Nonconformism In Manuel Puigan s Kiss Of Spider Woman
In a society governed by straight, cis gender men, the nonconformists have been pushed to the side
and hidden from view. Ashamed by their anomalies, these men have released heteronormative,
patriarchal media to create a conformist society and to label any outsider as strange or other. Although
media about the marginalized exists, they are few and far in between, leaving them to appropriate
other forms of expression. In Manuel Puig s Kiss of Spider Woman, Molina, an effeminate gay man,
recounts the storyline of Jacques Tourner s film, Cat People, through a queer perspective. By
identifying with a nonhuman figure and distorting a heteronormative plotline, Molina recognizes the
animality, or otherness, within himself due to his nonconforming nature. In Molina s narration of
Tourner s film, he often shows admiration towards Irena, a cat person. When introducing her to
Valentín, he expresses that she is not a woman like all the others, indicating her otherness yet
romanticizing her at the same time (Puig 3). She is unlike other women not only because she s non
human but also the heroine (25). This idolization is, furthermore, seen when he bids his cellmate
goodnight. Sweet dreams of Irena, he says, elevating her into an ethereal figure (9). Therefore, Molina
s reverence leads him to place himself in Irena s shoes. Like Irena, he is fond of Oliver because he s
the gentle type, and understanding (17); yet, he loathes the psychiatrist because so does [she],
revealing that his feelings towards the characters are dependent on hers (20). In other instances,
Molina seems to know what Irena is thinking and feeling although the film does not delve into her
mind. He explains how, when seeing Oliver, she [had] such a strong desire to kiss him, on the mouth
(21). Yet, in the film, the viewer is unable to truly know her desires unless they are explicitly said. So,
Molina has assumed her character mentally and emotionally.
However, Molina s identification with Irena is evident in the encounter with the other foreign woman.
In his narration, he explains this scene almost precisely as it is in the film. The only difference is that
Molina can provides a translation for the woman s line. According to

Analysis of Los Vendidos and Exploitation of Mexican Americans
The short play Los Vendidos portrayed by el Teatro Campesino shows the history of Mexican
Americans. It shows racist perceptions and actions towards Mexican Americans. The title itself
implies the exploitation of Chicanos. In translation from Spanish Vendidos can mean either those who
sell out others, or those who are sold. In the play either meaning can be applied. Those who are sold
would be the eleven different characters that Sancho describes. But, the sell out could be Ms. Jimenez,
a main character, who is the exemplary white washed Mexican American.
The Teatro Campesino was a theater group that originated on the picket lines in Delano in 1965. They

The buying and selling of these people shows the perception of Mexican Americans as property that
can be abused and manipulated.
Ms. Jimenez is the sell out or white washed Mexican American. This is displayed just as the play
begins when she introduces herself. Sancho hears her say her name as Ji mi nez and realizes she is a
Chicana. Excitedly, he starts to speak Spanish to her and pronounces her name in Spanish, Hee me
nez, stressing the second syllable. She corrects him saying that the Spanish pronunciation is not how
her name is pronounced. She quickly makes it apparent that she does not speak Spanish and does not
even want to be know as a Chicana. She rejects her own ethnicity, which is one example of how she is
a sell out. In any instance of such widespread oppression there has always been people who attempt to
hide or reject their own identity so that they might succeed or better survive in the environment of
their oppressors. Many times the oppressed people are taught to feel shameful of their heritage
because the racism is so ingrained in everyday life and culture. In 1924 a Chicano assistant assessor to
Reverend McLean in reporting on Colorado Mexicans, named J.B. Guerrero, reveals his own
resentment towards people who share his own ancestry, The Americans think we [Mexican
Americans] are no good; they class us with this trash that comes over from Mexico; we are greasers
and nothing more. We have suffered much from these

A Brief Note On Employment And Life Decisions
Employment and Life Decisions The decision of finding an organization that you can serve using your
strengths, passions, and gifts is an important one. You will most likely look for a role that matches
your domain of knowledge, as well as where you can stretch that knowledge, while gaining experience
in progressing your career. Ramona is a bright new graduate at the top of her class, and has been
presented with an opportunity to begin her career with a seemingly successful and popular company.
However, before she makes a decision to pursue the offer of employment, she should also consider
factors such as cultural fit, values alignment, growth opportunities, legal considerations, as well as that
intrinsic barometer that it is an opportunity worth pursuing. Gaining Awareness of Who You Are I
would advise Ramona to first take inventory of who she is as an individual, and the goals and
aspirations that she has as she launches her new career. This might include identifying what her core
values are, and prioritizing each one. Next, I would advise Ramona to assess and catalog her strengths
and weaknesses from both a personal and professional perspective. This valuable insight will equip
her with the self awareness needed in evaluating and making the decision to accept or decline the offer
of employment. Assessing the Organization for Fit Once Ramona is equipped with her individual self
awareness, she will need to assess the prospective organization to determine whether or

Violent Violence
when counties failed in this regard the state was often hesitant or unable to act as a final third party
enforcer. This paper provides an answer to the puzzle of why feud violence in Eastern Kentucky
spiked in the latter half of the 19th century. Previous explanations, such as Altina Waller s account of
the Hatfield/McCoy Feud (Waller, 1998) have analyzed feud violence from a historical perspective.
This paper will bring the tools of economics and rational choice approaches to bear on the problem.
The analysis of violence using economic logic is not novel. Violent conflict, though costly and
perhaps even socially inefficient, can still be individually rational for the parties involved (Tullock
2003, p. 4.) Previous work has also explored ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

portions of it were isolated and cut off from the cultural and economic hubs of Lexington, Louisville,

Connections Between Aircraft Performance And Propulsion...
13. Aircraft Performance In this chapter we will make the connections between aircraft performance
and propulsion system performance. For a vehicle in steady, level flight, as in Figure 13.1, the thrust
force is equal to the drag force, and lift is equal to weight. Any thrust available in excess of that
required to overcome the drag can be applied to accelerate the vehicle (increasing kinetic energy) or to
cause the vehicle to climb (increasing potential energy). Figure 13.1: A schematic of the forces on an

Bitches and True Love (1980 Prompt)
Conquering an internal struggle between a passion and a responsibility can completely
tear someone apart. This type of conflict is evident in Ernest Hemingway s The Sun Also Rises
within many of the characters. Brett, however, is the most prominent example because of the
way she copes with this war. She soldiers through, while some of the closest people to her
never even notice. Always appearing happy and unaffected on the outside, Brett faces the
toughest struggle out of all the characters on the inside. At the root of the conflict, Brett has a love for

Romero s bull fighting gave real emotion, because he helps the absolute purity of line in his

The emotion Romero radiates from his performances is easily felt and enjoyed by
Brett and Jake. Even though they can t be together physically, because of Jake s impotence,
they can at least be together emotionally while Brett maintains her responsibility of satisfying her
physical need elsewhere. Brett has two sides to her: her emotional love for Jake, and the physical
hunger for
intimacy. Increasingly wanting to be with Jake, she must meet her physical needs first. She
goes off with many men, including Robert Cohn and Romero. When Jake asks, Couldn t we
live together, Brett? Couldn t we just live together? (62), Brett replies, I don t think so. I d just

cheat on someone . However, this remark is something more than a woman behaving
promiscuously because she later pleads, It s the way I m made (62), proving her loyalty to
Jake despite her nature. This conflict has very deep, instinctual roots in Brett, after all, she was

Improving Health And Self Care For Multiple Reasons
In a research article by Johnson (2010), elderly individuals may not be able to maintain health and self
care for multiple reasons, such as cognitive limitations, mobility issues, living conditions, and other
comorbidities. Language barriers may also affect the understanding of discharge instructions. This has
significance when looking at Australians in 2006, almost three million, aged 15 74 years of age, spoke
English as a second language. Karliner and colleagues conducted a study to focus on language barriers
and the understanding of discharge instructions among patients with limited English proficiency from
2 large urban hospitals. The sample consisted of 308 random Spanish, Chinese, and English speaking
patients recruited from medical surgical floors who were used in the study. Although the patients were
provided with interpreters in their appropriate languages, the results of the study discovered low
understanding for follow up appointments (56%) and medication outcomes such as the purpose of
medication (41%).
In another study, focus group participants discussed their most common obstacles faced when trying to
manage their care on their own appropriately. Having insufficient information and know how about
their health and health care were the primary barriers that patients revealed when they talked about
managing their own care (Holly). Participants mentioned about how overwhelmed they felt trying to

Marketing Of Health Care Services
This paper pertains to the marketing of Health Care Services and provides the steps and history of
marketing in health care and the effects of marketing on the health care delivery system from 1950 to
1990. It introduces the health care consumers and their role in the marketing process as well as the
factors that influence consumer behavior. These factors influence the success of marketing in health
care. It also provides the requirements for successful marketing and current techniques and strategies
used by health care organizations.
According to the American Marketing Association, marketing is the activity, set of institutions and
process for creating, communicating, delivering, and exchanging offers that have value for customers,
clients, partners, and society at large (2014). Marketing is a relatively new concept that was first
introduced in 1910 and referred to as sales. Although the 1950 s is considered to be the beginning of
the marketing era, it was not until the 1980 s that marketing was considered to have begun in
healthcare, other than the pharmaceutical industry (Thomas, 2005). In the 1950s, the United States
Economy was geared toward production and emphasized the interests of the producer over those of
the consumer. Individuals had the mindset that a good product would sell for itself so there was no
need for marketing. Hospitals and physicians for the most part considered marketing to be
inappropriate and even unethical. Although

Symbolism In Director Luc Besson s The Fifth Element
Director Luc Besson s 1997 film The Fifth Element is an incredibly imaginative futuristic film
depicting the cycle of good and evil and the human factor involved with the infinite battle. Besson
carefully constructs this film to provide a human feeling to the film, providing emotional gateways
and glimpses of a character s intentions or purpose using frequent symbolism. In addition to
symbolism the use of vibrant color and lighting, or the lack of, is carefully considered within each shot
which sets the mood appropriately for the film s duration. The Fifth Element s cinematography does
portray an emphasis on the balance of light and dark and, in most cases, providing the effect of a very
serious problem with hope constantly changing between foreground and background as it does in life.

Child Policy And Child Policies
Chen, Come! Look at this! Said a boy during our class recess. He stood there wide eyed, trembling
with his mouth wide open. Let me see! Me first! Said another classmate. Before I knew it, I was
standing there with half the 5th Grade class staring into a ditch in dismay. There lied the dead body of
what appeared to be a newborn child. It was a deep, overgrown ditch filled with rocks and debris
along with a blood soaked quilt. It was 1991, in a small village in northern China. It was a rough time
period in China a little over 10 years after the infamous One Child Policy was introduced. I had never
witnessed a dead body before, and couldn t help but stare at the lifeless body. How could this happen?
Who could do something so evil? As children, we never fully understood what exactly happened
regarding the One Child Policy. I heard stories of forced abortions, and government interventions to
female children, or those attempting to have multiple children. But it was crazy to actually witness it
first hand. I was a mistake; my parents always wanted a boy, as did every other person in China.
Everyone knew Chinese parents did not wish to have daughters; they needed a son that could work to
support not only himself but also his parents, as a lot of the economy was agriculture/labor based.
Females were simply useless outside of reproducing. It was a simple concept, if you were only
allowed one child, you chose a son. Ling! Please get up and get ready for school Chen said.

A Girl Sat By Herself At A Dirty Lunch Table
A girl sat by herself at a dirty lunch table eating quietly. She ignored the jeers shot towards her, and
continued eating. She was facing the consequences of being different. How dare she have colored hair,
how dare she dress different, how dare she have different tastes, and most of all, how dare she not
conform. At least, that s how they think. If one does not conform, they get teased for being Weird, The
girl, however, was subject to more extreme forms, social deprivation, hitting, shoving, tripping. Every
day she was victimized, to the point where her confidence was in tatters. Every day she hid in her
room, she cried for hours. Weekends were her Savior, Summers were her heaven. The bus was
particularly hellacious. Every day, the same girl. Hair pulling, name calling, kicking. Every day it was
the same girl. It didn t matter what she did, this girl, Steph, was always on her case. Steph even got off
on the same stop as her. Though she often ran into the house before much more happened. One
particular day, she learned something valuable. It was a lesson she would treasure for much of her life.
It was a snowy day, one worthy of a heavy coat. On the bus ride home from school, one of her usual
pursuers was silent. She took notice that they looked solemn. It was Steph, who waits for her parent
every day, due to her house being far off and her parents picking her up after work. Today, however,
the mother of the bullied girl was keeping an eye on Steph. She isn t moving...

The Impact Of Amazonia
Amazonia, a place that is of big significance in both culture and in diversity of species. It covers most
of South America in countries such as Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, Suriname,
Venezuela, and a foreign possession country called French Guiana. Amazonia has been a place in
which people have lived for 13,000 years (Amazonia, The Human Impact). Many things have
happened in this place which has caused many troubles to the environment and the people surrounding
the Amazonia such as Oil and Gas Production and Deforestation. These things bring big problem to

Deforestation is clearing the land of trees in order to grow or the use of something. Many thing
contribute to deforestation and are ruining the home of thousands of animals. The first road to be built
is one that connects to the capital of Brazil called Brasilla to the port city of Belem, that is in the north,
runs 250 miles long and has caused deforestation in order to build this road. Transcontinental Roads
have been built in this area since urbanization is on the rise and people need transport in order to get
from one place to another and since the Amazon is a huge chunk of land that has to be crossed over,
railroads began to develop for the people to travel and for trade. A long railroad to connect from Brazil
s Atlantic Coast and a Pacific port in Peru has been proposed by Brazil, Peru, and China in order to
speed up transport of resources such a soy and phosphate rock (Amazonia, The Human Impact). This
railroad is 3,300 miles long and it is 10 billion dollars, this leads to a big deforestation that can kill
many species and can leave many people without homes. As of now, there are many roads created that
crisscross along the Brazilian Amazon and many are illegal, about 95%. Fires are another thing that
leads to deforestation. Fires are used in order to clear the land and burn trees

The Influence Of The Nuremberg Trial On International...
For the victorious parties of war to determine the process of justice makes a significant assumption
that those parties will attempt to apply an extension of the just war theory to include jus post bellum in
that they will endeavor for a just and lasting peace. This assumption is problematic for three reasons.
First, nothing guarantees that as a belligerent concludes acts of war that it has any intention
whatsoever of establishing peace. Second, the victor enjoys the privilege of deciding what constitutes
genocide or mass violence. Finally, the possibility always exists of atrocities committed by the victor.
Ultimately, in the Nuremberg Trial, the victor retained the prerogative to determine that the wrongs
performed by the Nazis were so calculated, so malignant and so devastating, that civilization cannot
tolerate their being ignored because it cannot survive their being repeated. (Jackson, Opening Address
for the United States) In this example, four victorious nations controlled the responsibility to
determine the requirement for a trial, negotiate the employment of the appropriate system of law,
determining the definition of criminal entities, and defining international law and that of a sovereign
nation (Rosen, ed., The Influence of the Nuremberg Trial on International Criminal Law ).

Essay about Beauty and the Beast
Beaumont vs Disney: A Comparative Look into a Classic Fairy tales and stories are something that has
been around since the beginning of time. Tales were passed down from generation to generation, and
in the case of fairy tales, these stories were not at first geared towards any age group, but instead for
anyone, for entertainment purposes. Growing up, one of my favorite tales was Beauty and the Beast. If
you ask children if they know this story, I would guarantee almost one hundred percent of them
would. However, I m sure the story they would know is that of the Disney version. In my lifetime, the
majority of fairy tales I know are the Disney version. There is more than just Disney s version of
Beauty and the Beast, for example, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Beaumont does not mention these characters and we find Beauty not falling in love and liking him as
quickly as in Disney. Both stories invoke a child s imagination, either with the addition of these live
castle objects or merely the presence of something magical which the child can then come up with
their own images. By doing this, the child fits unconscious content into conscious fantasies, which
then enable him to deal with that content. It is here that fairy tales have unequaled value, because they
offer new dimensions to the child s imagination which would be impossible for him to discover as
truly on his own. Even more important, the form and structure of fairy tales suggest images to the
child by which he can structure his daydreams and with them give better direction to his life
(Bettleheim 7). In another area, the differences in characters add to some differences in the plot. With
the Disney version, which people mostly relate to, the Prince is turned into the Beast by an
enchantress when he shows his selfishness. It is said that if the Prince could learn to love and be loved
in return before the last enchanted rose petal fell, then the castle s spell would be gone (Disney 2). The
difference in the roses in both stories was that Beaumont s Beast had a garden of roses in which he
told the merchant, I value more than anything I possess (Beaumont 24). In Disney, the Beast has one
rose, in a

The Brain Is The Most Important Part Of The Human Brain
When you think of the brain, think of it as the most important part of the human body. The brain is the
strongest part of the body and can easily be damaged. Not only is it easy to damage but it also has the
ability to take in a lot of new information to increase one s intelligence. Think of the brain like a
computer or even a sponge.
The brain has six very important parts to it, the lobes play a very important part to the brain. The lobes
break down into four different parts these four parts are the frontal, temporal, occipital and the parietal
lobe. These four lobes are what makes the brain look so cool. Everyones is born with their own maze
of a brain but with in that maze ever one has the four lobes. The four lobes all have different jobs. As
you said in the video that we watched for week one the frontal lobe controls the thinking and the
planning. To me, I think the frontal lobe is the most important lobe of them all. The frontal lobe
continues to grow as you get older, the reason for that is because it s more like a memory card as well,
the older you get the more memories you tend to have.
The second of the of the six most important parts is the motor cortex. The motor cortex is to the body
what and the engine is to a car. The motor cortex is what helps the body move. The cortex is what
controls the bodies movement. If you happen to damage the motor cortex you re more than likely
going to be paralyzed.
The third part of the brain is your brain stem is another

To become a better rider it is necessary to learn how to connect with the horse, be constantly working
to be better, to learn from other and stay competitive. Your aids, which are your leg, your hands, your
reins and your voice, are all very important for connecting and communicating with your horse. You
cannot be a rider without a horse. Hard work and a willingness to learn are imperative to become a

learn how you can fix them yourself Riding a horse is more than just sitting there, its connecting with
your horse through your aids. Aids are the most important for connecting with your horse. You have to
communicate in a way that the horse understands. Most horses are trained to respond to aids like your
leg, your hands, the reins, and your voice. The leg refers to your whole leg, from your hip to your

Attitude is important for both you and your horse to understand each other. If you are upset, your
horse can sense this, and it puts him on edge. You being upset communicates to him that you are not
happy, which makes him nervous because your attitude is unpredictable. This also goes for if you are
happy, sad, angry or excited. Your voice is a very important communication device for connecting
with your horse. Your voice can tell him you are upset with him when he does something wrong, or
that you are happy with what he has done. Voice is also important for telling a horse to calm down
with words like easy and steady . It can also tell them to change gaits with a simple kiss click or whoa

Afro-descendants in Latin America Essay
There are currently 150 million Afro descendants in Latin America who make up nearly 30 percent of
the region s population (Congressional Research Service, 2005). Out of the fifteen Latin American
nations that have recently adapted some sort of multicultural reform, only three give recognize Afro
Latino communities and give them the same rights as indigenous groups (Hooker, 2005). Indigenous
groups are more successful than afro descendent groups in gaining collective rights and development
aid from international NGO s. Collective rights important because are closely related to land rights
and can become a tool to fight descrimination .I will attempt to uncover the causes for the discrepancy.

More specifically, that elites are more apt to give rights to groups small in number because they are
less of a threat, and Afro Latinos compose a larger percent of the population in most countries.
However, when looking at population size as an indicator of whether blacks or indigenous groups gain
collective rights, there is no direct correlation (Hooker, 2005). While it may be the case that
population size is an important factor in elite decision making about collective rights, it does not
explain the uneven scope of such rights won by blacks and Indians within and across countries (293).
Following this logic, Bolivia, a largely indigenous country would not have the progressive indigenous
recognition in comparison to other countries like Chile, where the indigenous population is much
smaller.
Hooker claims indigenous groups are more successful and gaining collective rights due to the view of
indigenous groups as a distinct cultural group while Afro decedents are not seen as having a distinct
culture, but rather a separate racial group (Hooker, 2005). Wade (1997) also pointed the inequality in
epistemology of academics in who study Latin America. Where black groups are studied by
sociologists in relation to racism and indigenous peoples are studied by Anthropologist (p.60). Blacks
find it more difficult to gain recognition because the multicultural reforms adopted by Latin American
states are based on ethnic identity rather than race

Mexican Food Essay
Growing up in the mid west with a Canadian mother and father from Texas I enjoyed a wide variety of
food. As a result, my two favorite foods that I enjoy, are Mexican food, particularly chips and salsa,
and a Canadian dish named Poutine. While this may seem like a strange combination of foods, they
are two foods that I have enjoyed not only eating, but also making. During my research I found the
origin and history of Mexican food quite interesting. While researching the website,
Wineandfood.com (n.d.) I discovered a brief history of Mexican food and how that the food we know
today as Mexican is a blend that comes from both the Spanish and Aztec s. According to the website,

I would often go visit family in the summer and enjoy eating poutine with my cousins. I discovered,
thecanadianencyclopedia.ca (2016) that Poutine, or gravy and fries with cheese curds, was first made
in a small town in the Quebec province. According to the website, Fernand Lachance of Café Ideal
(later renamed Le Lutin qui rit) has said that he first added curds to fries at the request of Eddy
Lainesse, a regular customer, in 1957. ( Poutine The Canadian Encyclopedia, n.d.) After this request
the dish became popular, but customers of the restaurant would complain about cold fries. Lachance
then ...doused the fries and curds with gravy to keep the food warm. ( Poutine The Canadian
Encyclopedia, n.d.) Interestingly, there is a competing story, on this same site, that states, In
Drummondville, Jean Paul Roy claims that he invented poutine at his drive in restaurant Le Roy Jucep
in 1964. ( Poutine The Canadian Encyclopedia, n.d.). While the exact location of the first dish has
been disputed what has not, is that it originated in Quebec and is still quite popular today. Many
different countries including the United States, Korea and even Russia serve poutine which you can
find on food trucks and in restaurants devoted just to Poutine. ( Poutine The Canadian Encyclopedia,
n.d.) Food is such an amazing product because a dish can be created in one place and show up miles

Change In Fahrenheit 451
Can it be possible for people to change how they see and interpret the world? In Ray Bradbury s
Fahrenheit 451, Montag leaves his past, ultimately changing the way he thinks. In the passage Montag
has just escaped the Hound as well as his previous life, and is being carried away by the river into the
forest while thinking about his future. The revelation in this passage is a culmination of all the
knowledge that Montag acquires throughout the book. Ray Bradbury conveys to the reader how
finally leaving his old world has completed the change inside of Montag through the use of metaphors
and repetition.
The first way the author describes how Montag feels about the fakeness present in the world of his
past is through the use of metaphors. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout this passage, the word burn progresses over time from burning, to burned, to burnt. This
relates to what Montag is thinking, and brings him to his realization that the firemen need to stop
burning books. This is reinforced by the metaphor of The sun burning every day. It burned time.... So
if he burnt things with the firemen, and the sun burnt Time, that meant that everything burnt!
(Bradbury 140 141). The burning of the sun and it s likening to time and how the firemen and Montag
burn tells that too much is being burned as well as destroyed. At this point the change within Montag
is completed, and is shown by the metaphor of Now the guild of the asbestos weaver must open shop
very soon (Bradbury 141). The guild of asbestos weavers refers to the intellectuals in his past
community, who need to come forth and share the good that comes from having individual
knowledge. Bradbury ends the metaphor with telling the reader that the weavers must open shop very
soon, making the reader aware that change needs to happen. And this begins by coming forth with
knowledge and stopping the firemen. Somewhere the saving and putting away had to begin again and
someone had to do the saving and keeping (Bradbury 141), as he realizes the importance of preserving
books and gleaning important information and knowledge from them. Bradbury s use of the saving
and keeping is to emphasize to the reader that those who care enough to make change happen are the
one s who must step up, and enforce change. Protecting these books is an significant task that is key to
the greater good of society and future

Freestyle Swimming Is A Category For A Swim Competition
Freestyle swimming is a category for a swim competition. Swimming has known to be around for
more than 10,000 years and freestyle swimming was one of the most common forms of swimming. In
the 1830 s swimming became more of a competitive sport. By 1837 the NSS was holding swimming
competitions in England. The sport grew popular in the 1880 s and there was three hundred regional
clubs across the country.
International Swimming Federation (FINA), had the rules of what freestyle is. It had said freestyle is
just a choice of the swimming technique you can use. (Wikipedia.com) Freestyle races are the most

was usually the fastest. Even though during a freestyle race, the racer can chose which style they want,
It is not common to see the dog paddle or the sidestroke. Then besides the front crawl it is common to
see breaststroke, butterfly, and the backstroke being used. But the styles have the most speed would be

  • 2. Dreams From My Father Analysis The keynote address at the 2004 Democratic National Convention, was presented by the Illinois State Senator, United States senatorial candidate, and future President Barack Obama on Tuesday, July 27, 2004. His unexpected landslide victory in the March 2004 Illinois U.S. Senate Democratic primary made him a rising star within the national Democratic Party overnight, started speculation about a presidential future, and led to the reissue of his memoir, Dreams from My Father. His keynote address grew popular which then further elevated his status within the Democratic Party and led to his reissued memoir becoming an all time bestseller. America has the inherent potential to offer hope to anyone, regardless of their background or expect rences; however, in order to ensure that opportunities exist for all in a secure, functional, and sustainable national environment, a number of key policy changes ... He then moves on to talking about how the changes in the accoutrements of middle class life, today many american families are forced to have both parents working full time outside of the home. Though sometimes this is not ideal, it is difficult to balance work, other responsibilities and take care of the household, republicans seeking to impose a more traditional family household and structure, he explains how there is no realistic solution. Obama concludes the audacity of hope by recanting the time leading up to his delivery of his keynote address, at the 2004 democratic convention. He sends gratitude for the sudden fame which was afforded him. He then follows up with explaining that no matter where his political career takes him in the future, he vows to remain perspective, humor, and humility as well as overarching commitment to greater good which was responsible for inspiring him to go into public ... • 3. Communication Apprehension And Learning Styles I, am a very private person, as well as a student. As students we are faced with the ever present threat of teachers who call on us even when our heads are down taking notes and our hands are not raised. As a student and a very private person I have come to detest these occurrences. However while doing some research I came across an article written by Dr. Travis L. Russ professor of Communications and Media Management at Fordham University in New York about communication apprehension and learning styles. In this article Dr. Russ says that there is a coloration between people with high communication apprehension and learning better from reflective work and thinking, while people with a lower amount of communication apprehension prefer to do direct experiments (Russ, 2012). When I share things that I am thinking there is usually a long pause in between the questions asked and my answer, which is caused by me making sure that what I say is not especially revealing towards my inner thoughts. When I was in Advanced Public Speaking the hardest presentation for me to give was the speech of introduction. I hate doing those even if I am just sitting down at a desk posting a recording of it I still get extremely anxious over what I have said, what if I offend someone? did that sound too harsh? I hope they don t think I m weird. These things are a constant when I am preparing to talk about myself. I believe that by looking at Social Penetration Theory we can better ... • 4. Solid Phase Of Polymer Bound 2 A 1,3,4 thiadiazole library was constructed by solid phase organic synthesis. The key step of this solid phase synthesis involves the preparation of polymer bound 2 amido 5 amino 1,3,4 thiadiazole resin by the cyclization of thiosemicarbazide resin using p TsCl as the desulfurative agent, followed by the functionalization of resin by alkylation, acylation, alkylation/acylation, and Suzuki coupling reaction. Both the alkylation and acylation reactions chemoselectively occurred at the 2 amide position of 2 amido 5 amino 1,3,4 thiadiazole resin and the 5 amine position of 2 amido 5 amino 1,3,4 thiadiazole resin, respectively. Finally, these functionalized 1,3,4 thiadiazole resins were treated with trifluoroacetic acid in dichloromethane, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lee et al. compared the binding affinity of compounds containing 1,3,4 oxadiazole or 1,3,4 thaidiazole in the same chemical structure toward CB1 receptor in the process of development of obesity drug.9 Both 1,3,4 oxadiazoles and 1,3,4 thiadiazoles were also used for the development potent antibacterial agent by Kumar et al.10 Asai et al. reported dramatic difference in the binding affinity between 1,3,4 oxadiazole and 1,3,4 thiadiazole toward signal transducers and activators of transcription.11 Because of these biologically interesting properties of 1,3,4 thiadiazole and 1,3,4 oxadiazole, these core skeletons have been targeted for synthesis by organic and medicinal chemists, and as a result, many synthetic methodologies have been developed in the literature.12 Among these synthetic methodologies, solid phase synthesis effectively facilitates the generation of various 1,3,4 thiadiazoles and 1,3,4 oxadiazoles in a short time.13 In our own research area, we have developed solid phase synthetic methodology to produce 1,3,4 oxadiazoles and 1,3,4 thiadiazoles.14 However, unfortunately our methodology was limited to synthesize diverse 1,3,4 thiadiazole derivatives. It was only suitable to generate p nitro substituted 1,3,4 thiadiazoles (Scheme 1a). To improve over ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Media And Havens Much change in the global media by means of mergers and increased concentration has resulted in the limited diversity of content. In addition, the media consolidation does not only effect the content but the ownership and employment opportunities. Winseck (2011) and Havens (2014), both discuss the media mostly in the United States and other parts of the world; comparisons can be drawn to relate to Canadian media. Different theories have been developed around the capitalistic nature of the media corporation on the creativity and diversity of media (Havens, 2014). The following will examine the current standings of the large media corporations in the United States and other countries. In addition, the focus will be put upon the effects of consolidation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The corporations have the capacity to censor or alter important issues that go against their political or ideological positions in the news and in other media outlets. Media can affect and shape public views on numerous issues by leading them in a way that fits in with the views of the organization. Since the media companies have consolidated individuals are less exposed to outside views or particular viewpoints to issues. The current issue can fit within the realm of propaganda, people watch and read what is available and intensely promoted (Chomsky Herman, 2002). If powerful corporations merge with others they are able to send out their own message and as frequently as they would like. In the news, broadcasters can exaggerate what their own points of views are on certain subjects to make individuals alter their own beliefs, as a result (Chomsky Herman, 2002). However, we can also argue that with current technologies individuals can go beyond the news to get their information by using the web for example. With the current technologies, individuals can also verify is statements made by the media contain some truth. What would be interesting to look at would be the racial and gender composition of media corporations and its effect on the diversity of media. Furthermore, the analysis of media consolidation proves to be beneficial in the eyes of capitalism. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Making Cars Lighter Cars Safer Cars Making Cars Lighter Cars have been around for many years. The first car to move off its own power was in 1769, and 1989 the average weight of a car was about 3,000 pounds. Overtime, cars have been through many changes and improvements. Car makers are constantly in search of improving cars to be better than the last. Can lighter cars be safer? Can the fuel economy benefit if the production of lighter cars were to increase? And lastly, what are alternative composites car makers can invest in? Making cars lighter will not only make them safer, but they will also greatly benefit the fuel economy. Even though we may have the technology to build lighter and safer cars, the cost affects puts this change on hold. Changing a cars build will increase the price on cars and car makers will lose buyers. So instead, car makers will continue to build heavy, gas guzzling, killing machines. Just about since birth, we have been passengers in a car. Then later down the years, we become the drivers. When you think about it, we put ourselves in danger every time we get behind the wheel or just in for the ride. Imagine if you are driving a compact car and crash into a half ton pickup truck. The passengers in the truck will walk away with little to no injuries, while you will possibly sustain serious injuries and potentially death. The heavier car increased the expectation of fatalities by 0.00027 per car 27 deaths per 100,000 such vehicles. The people in the compact car are 10 times more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Mexican Americans Essay Starting in the late nineteenth century until the end of World War II, the immigration policy in the United States experienced dramatic changes that altered the pace of immigration. High rates of immigration sparked adverse emotions and encouraged restrictive legislation and numerous bills in Congress advocated the suspension of immigration and the deportation of non Americans (Wisconsin Historical Society). Mexican American history was shaped by several bills in Congress and efforts to deport all non Americans from the United States. The United States was home to several Spanish origin groups, prior to the Declaration of Independence. The term Mexican American was a label used to describe a number of Hispanic American groups that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mexican Americans and American Indians have been traditionally more disadvantaged than other Americans in regards to income, and education (Mitz). According to the 2007 U.S. Census Bureau report, 21.5 percent of Mexican Americans and 25 percent of American Indians live at or below the poverty level (Health). However, both groups have been able to maintain a large majority of their traditions when compared to other Americans. Their traditions and culture can be seen through religious beliefs, value systems, cuisine, and economic structures (Healey). Despite over a century of powerful attempts to Americanize both Mexican Americans and American Indians, both groups have successfully been able to preserve their heritage and traditions. Mexican Americans also shared problems of poverty and discrimination with African Americans. According to Healy, Mexican Americans, like African Americans, have been viewed as cheap, unskilled agricultural labor that has been methodically excluded from mainstream America. Unlike most immigrants from Europe, who lived in urban areas, Mexican Americans and African Americans were prone to live and work in rural parts of the United States. Because both groups lived in less urban areas they had limited resources for education, skill development and economic opportunities. At the same time, however, Mexican Americans ... • 8. Nonconformism In Manuel Puigan s Kiss Of Spider Woman In a society governed by straight, cis gender men, the nonconformists have been pushed to the side and hidden from view. Ashamed by their anomalies, these men have released heteronormative, patriarchal media to create a conformist society and to label any outsider as strange or other. Although media about the marginalized exists, they are few and far in between, leaving them to appropriate other forms of expression. In Manuel Puig s Kiss of Spider Woman, Molina, an effeminate gay man, recounts the storyline of Jacques Tourner s film, Cat People, through a queer perspective. By identifying with a nonhuman figure and distorting a heteronormative plotline, Molina recognizes the animality, or otherness, within himself due to his nonconforming nature. In Molina s narration of Tourner s film, he often shows admiration towards Irena, a cat person. When introducing her to Valentín, he expresses that she is not a woman like all the others, indicating her otherness yet romanticizing her at the same time (Puig 3). She is unlike other women not only because she s non human but also the heroine (25). This idolization is, furthermore, seen when he bids his cellmate goodnight. Sweet dreams of Irena, he says, elevating her into an ethereal figure (9). Therefore, Molina s reverence leads him to place himself in Irena s shoes. Like Irena, he is fond of Oliver because he s the gentle type, and understanding (17); yet, he loathes the psychiatrist because so does [she], revealing that his feelings towards the characters are dependent on hers (20). In other instances, Molina seems to know what Irena is thinking and feeling although the film does not delve into her mind. He explains how, when seeing Oliver, she [had] such a strong desire to kiss him, on the mouth (21). Yet, in the film, the viewer is unable to truly know her desires unless they are explicitly said. So, Molina has assumed her character mentally and emotionally. However, Molina s identification with Irena is evident in the encounter with the other foreign woman. In his narration, he explains this scene almost precisely as it is in the film. The only difference is that Molina can provides a translation for the woman s line. According to ... • 9. Analysis of Los Vendidos and Exploitation of... Analysis of Los Vendidos and Exploitation of Mexican Americans The short play Los Vendidos portrayed by el Teatro Campesino shows the history of Mexican Americans. It shows racist perceptions and actions towards Mexican Americans. The title itself implies the exploitation of Chicanos. In translation from Spanish Vendidos can mean either those who sell out others, or those who are sold. In the play either meaning can be applied. Those who are sold would be the eleven different characters that Sancho describes. But, the sell out could be Ms. Jimenez, a main character, who is the exemplary white washed Mexican American. The Teatro Campesino was a theater group that originated on the picket lines in Delano in 1965. They ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The buying and selling of these people shows the perception of Mexican Americans as property that can be abused and manipulated. Ms. Jimenez is the sell out or white washed Mexican American. This is displayed just as the play begins when she introduces herself. Sancho hears her say her name as Ji mi nez and realizes she is a Chicana. Excitedly, he starts to speak Spanish to her and pronounces her name in Spanish, Hee me nez, stressing the second syllable. She corrects him saying that the Spanish pronunciation is not how her name is pronounced. She quickly makes it apparent that she does not speak Spanish and does not even want to be know as a Chicana. She rejects her own ethnicity, which is one example of how she is a sell out. In any instance of such widespread oppression there has always been people who attempt to hide or reject their own identity so that they might succeed or better survive in the environment of their oppressors. Many times the oppressed people are taught to feel shameful of their heritage because the racism is so ingrained in everyday life and culture. In 1924 a Chicano assistant assessor to Reverend McLean in reporting on Colorado Mexicans, named J.B. Guerrero, reveals his own resentment towards people who share his own ancestry, The Americans think we [Mexican Americans] are no good; they class us with this trash that comes over from Mexico; we are greasers and nothing more. • 10. A Brief Note On Employment And Life Decisions Employment and Life Decisions The decision of finding an organization that you can serve using your strengths, passions, and gifts is an important one. You will most likely look for a role that matches your domain of knowledge, as well as where you can stretch that knowledge, while gaining experience in progressing your career. Ramona is a bright new graduate at the top of her class, and has been presented with an opportunity to begin her career with a seemingly successful and popular company. However, before she makes a decision to pursue the offer of employment, she should also consider factors such as cultural fit, values alignment, growth opportunities, legal considerations, as well as that intrinsic barometer that it is an opportunity worth pursuing. Gaining Awareness of Who You Are I would advise Ramona to first take inventory of who she is as an individual, and the goals and aspirations that she has as she launches her new career. This might include identifying what her core values are, and prioritizing each one. Next, I would advise Ramona to assess and catalog her strengths and weaknesses from both a personal and professional perspective. This valuable insight will equip her with the self awareness needed in evaluating and making the decision to accept or decline the offer of employment. Assessing the Organization for Fit Once Ramona is equipped with her individual self awareness, she will need to assess the prospective organization to determine whether or ... Previous explanations, such as Altina Waller s account of the Hatfield/McCoy Feud (Waller, 1998) have analyzed feud violence from a historical perspective. This paper will bring the tools of economics and rational choice approaches to bear on the problem. The analysis of violence using economic logic is not novel. Violent conflict, though costly and perhaps even socially inefficient, can still be individually rational for the parties involved (Tullock 2003, p. 4.) Previous work has also explored ... Outside of the Huntington Ashland Metropolitan area, most of the countryside is quite rural. Small towns dot the region, but there is relatively little else. Census and economic data from 1850 and 1860 depict a region that was still very much unexplored and underdeveloped. Transportation in the state was limited, meaning that vast portions of it were isolated and cut off from the cultural and economic hubs of Lexington, Louisville, and the capital city of Frankfort. Aircraft Performance In this chapter we will make the connections between aircraft performance and propulsion system performance. For a vehicle in steady, level flight, as in Figure 13.1, the thrust force is equal to the drag force, and lift is equal to weight. Any thrust available in excess of that required to overcome the drag can be applied to accelerate the vehicle (increasing kinetic energy) or to cause the vehicle to climb (increasing potential energy). Improving Health And Self Care For Multiple Reasons In a research article by Johnson (2010), elderly individuals may not be able to maintain health and self care for multiple reasons, such as cognitive limitations, mobility issues, living conditions, and other comorbidities. Language barriers may also affect the understanding of discharge instructions. This has significance when looking at Australians in 2006, almost three million, aged 15 74 years of age, spoke English as a second language. Karliner and colleagues conducted a study to focus on language barriers and the understanding of discharge instructions among patients with limited English proficiency from 2 large urban hospitals. The sample consisted of 308 random Spanish, Chinese, and English speaking patients recruited from medical surgical floors who were used in the study. Although the patients were provided with interpreters in their appropriate languages, the results of the study discovered low understanding for follow up appointments (56%) and medication outcomes such as the purpose of medication (41%). In another study, focus group participants discussed their most common obstacles faced when trying to manage their care on their own appropriately. Marketing Of Health Care Services This paper pertains to the marketing of Health Care Services and provides the steps and history of marketing in health care and the effects of marketing on the health care delivery system from 1950 to 1990. It introduces the health care consumers and their role in the marketing process as well as the factors that influence consumer behavior. These factors influence the success of marketing in health care. It also provides the requirements for successful marketing and current techniques and strategies used by health care organizations. According to the American Marketing Association, marketing is the activity, set of institutions and process for creating, communicating, delivering, and exchanging offers that have value for customers, clients, partners, and society at large (2014). Marketing is a relatively new concept that was first introduced in 1910 and referred to as sales. Although the 1950 s is considered to be the beginning of the marketing era, it was not until the 1980 s that marketing was considered to have begun in healthcare, other than the pharmaceutical industry (Thomas, 2005). In the 1950s, the United States Economy was geared toward production and emphasized the interests of the producer over those of the consumer. Individuals had the mindset that a good product would sell for itself so there was no need for marketing. Hospitals and physicians for the most part considered marketing to be inappropriate and even unethical. Although ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 20. Symbolism In Director Luc Besson s The Fifth Element Director Luc Besson s 1997 film The Fifth Element is an incredibly imaginative futuristic film depicting the cycle of good and evil and the human factor involved with the infinite battle. Besson carefully constructs this film to provide a human feeling to the film, providing emotional gateways and glimpses of a character s intentions or purpose using frequent symbolism. In addition to symbolism the use of vibrant color and lighting, or the lack of, is carefully considered within each shot which sets the mood appropriately for the film s duration. The Fifth Element s cinematography does portray an emphasis on the balance of light and dark and, in most cases, providing the effect of a very serious problem with hope constantly changing between foreground and background as it does in life. The Fifth Element takes place in the year 2263 and is set primarily on Earth. The narrative tells the story of New York taxi driver, and former soldier, Korben Dallas(Bruce Willis) who encounters a young woman, who is the fifth element, named Leeloo(Milla Jovovich) together they must fight together to save the world from Jean Baptiste Emanuel Zorg(Gary Oldman) who is being directed by the great evil, simply named Mr. Shadow. Said another classmate. Before I knew it, I was standing there with half the 5th Grade class staring into a ditch in dismay. There lied the dead body of what appeared to be a newborn child. It was a deep, overgrown ditch filled with rocks and debris along with a blood soaked quilt. It was 1991, in a small village in northern China. It was a rough time period in China a little over 10 years after the infamous One Child Policy was introduced. I had never witnessed a dead body before, and couldn t help but stare at the lifeless body. How could this happen? Who could do something so evil? As children, we never fully understood what exactly happened regarding the One Child Policy. I heard stories of forced abortions, and government interventions to female children, or those attempting to have multiple children. But it was crazy to actually witness it first hand. Everyone knew Chinese parents did not wish to have daughters; they needed a son that could work to support not only himself but also his parents, as a lot of the economy was agriculture/labor based. For the victorious parties of war to determine the process of justice makes a significant assumption that those parties will attempt to apply an extension of the just war theory to include jus post bellum in that they will endeavor for a just and lasting peace. This assumption is problematic for three reasons. First, nothing guarantees that as a belligerent concludes acts of war that it has any intention whatsoever of establishing peace. Second, the victor enjoys the privilege of deciding what constitutes genocide or mass violence. Finally, the possibility always exists of atrocities committed by the victor. Ultimately, in the Nuremberg Trial, the victor retained the prerogative to determine that the wrongs performed by the Nazis were so calculated, so malignant and so devastating, that civilization cannot tolerate their being ignored because it cannot survive their being repeated. (Jackson, Opening Address for the United States) In this example, four victorious nations controlled the responsibility to determine the requirement for a trial, negotiate the employment of the appropriate system of law, determining the definition of criminal entities, and defining international law and that of a sovereign nation (Rosen, ed., The Influence of the Nuremberg Trial on International Criminal Law ). ... Tales were passed down from generation to generation, and in the case of fairy tales, these stories were not at first geared towards any age group, but instead for anyone, for entertainment purposes. Growing up, one of my favorite tales was Beauty and the Beast. If you ask children if they know this story, I would guarantee almost one hundred percent of them would. Beaumont does not mention these characters and we find Beauty not falling in love and liking him as quickly as in Disney. Both stories invoke a child s imagination, either with the addition of these live castle objects or merely the presence of something magical which the child can then come up with their own images. By doing this, the child fits unconscious content into conscious fantasies, which then enable him to deal with that content. It is here that fairy tales have unequaled value, because they offer new dimensions to the child s imagination which would be impossible for him to discover as truly on his own. Even more important, the form and structure of fairy tales suggest images to the child by which he can structure his daydreams and with them give better direction to his life (Bettleheim 7). In another area, the differences in characters add to some differences in the plot. With the Disney version, which people mostly relate to, the Prince is turned into the Beast by an enchantress when he shows his selfishness. It is said that if the Prince could learn to love and be loved in return before the last enchanted rose petal fell, then the castle s spell would be gone (Disney 2). The difference in the roses in both stories was that Beaumont s Beast had a garden of roses in which he told the merchant, I value more than anything I possess (Beaumont 24). The brain is the strongest part of the body and can easily be damaged. Not only is it easy to damage but it also has the ability to take in a lot of new information to increase one s intelligence. Think of the brain like a computer or even a sponge. The brain has six very important parts to it, the lobes play a very important part to the brain. The lobes break down into four different parts these four parts are the frontal, temporal, occipital and the parietal lobe. These four lobes are what makes the brain look so cool. Everyones is born with their own maze of a brain but with in that maze ever one has the four lobes. The four lobes all have different jobs. As you said in the video that we watched for week one the frontal lobe controls the thinking and the planning. To me, I think the frontal lobe is the most important lobe of them all. The frontal lobe continues to grow as you get older, the reason for that is because it s more like a memory card as well, the older you get the more memories you tend to have. The second of the of the six most important parts is the motor cortex. The motor cortex is to the body what and the engine is to a car. The motor cortex is what helps the body move. While it may be the case that population size is an important factor in elite decision making about collective rights, it does not explain the uneven scope of such rights won by blacks and Indians within and across countries (293). Following this logic, Bolivia, a largely indigenous country would not have the progressive indigenous recognition in comparison to other countries like Chile, where the indigenous population is much smaller.
