The Negative Effects of the Fashion Industry on Eating...

The Negative Effects of the Fashion Industry on Eating Disorders
While it s fashion week in London, the size zero models start to prepare for the big show by purging to
be as thin as possible. Most models starve themselves in order to achieve the waif , stick thin figure; it
becomes so addictive, almost like second nature that it further leads to serious eating disorders. From
recent studies, today s model weighs about 23% less than the normal woman. Clearly, most models do
not depict the average woman. Men and women all over the world follow the influences that the
fashion industry provides. They believe that the fashion industry depicts on what society should be
acknowledged as, picture perfect thin. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A large contributing factor to this problem is that many people in the fashion world encourage the use
of overly thin models in editorials and fashion shows. For example, as Kathryn Shattuck, What s On
Today: [The Arts/Cultural Desk], mentions that Kelly Cutrone, world renowned fashion publicist,
encourages, Clothes look better on thin people. The fabric hangs better (1). The fashion industry s
emphasis on being thin and its use of extremely underweight models in unacceptable. Many people
would agree that the fashion industry plays the majority role in eating disorders, but Lisa Hilton,
British Vogue writer, disagrees. Hilton argues, Its objective is selling clothes, and the consensus
remains that in order to achieve this, models need to be thin . . . Fashion is about fantasy, about
impossibility, about, dare we say it, art. Most women can t tell the difference (1). Hilton
condescendingly continues to refute the criticisms that models are too thin and the fashion industry
encourages eating disorders.
More recently, Sports Illustrated model, Kate Upton whom is a size 4, is now considered a plus size
model and deemed to be too curvy . In the United States the normal sized woman is between the size
of 6 and 10. Most of us do not understand why some put themselves through so much anguish to
satisfy these body image complexes. Back in the 1950 s, models were

advantage to the company because the decisions within the company are faster compared to

Strategic Planning And Strategic Management Essay
Before a business can strategically plan for the future, it must understand the overall strategic
management process. According to Abraham (2012), Strategic management is nothing less than
steering and managing a company to be successful over time not just for the next quarter or year, but
for the long term. (sec. 1.1). Many questions will be answered during this process. What direction
should the company go in, what industry will it compete in, and what products or services will be
featured? (Abraham, 2012, sec. 1.1). Strategic planning and strategic implementation are the two
primary parts of strategic management. This paper will focus on strategic planning. The purpose of
this paper is to describe a detailed strategic plan for The Club at Hidden Creek that will allow it to

Reaction Paper On Octopi
I have been fascinated by the intelligence and resourcefulness shown by octopi for the past few weeks
since I went scuba diving. The main purpose of this trip was to be able to learn more about octopi in
their natural habitat, as I had been given an assignment regarding the morality of consuming octopi. I
was given the opportunity to fully observe the complexity of octopi in their natural habitat. I realized
these animals capabilities people fear these almost harmless animals? In the past, I truly enjoyed the
savory taste of a variety of octopus inspired meals. Many people disregard the octopus, giving it little
to no thought unless there is a debate for dinner. Thinking of it as another average creature, as I did,
with little to no intelligence, this is a common misconception that is meant to give some kind of
justification when consuming the animal. In reality, octopi are one of the most intelligent species,
having highly developed sentient characteristics. The more research I did regarding the octopus, the
more my personal moral dilemma shifted to the support of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

their natural state; sadly the same cannot be said for the lobster. Many restaurants in western society

The Hobbit And The Tombs Of Atuan
Although literature can have male or female protagonists, the heroes quest does traditionally differ
based on their gender. Carol Pearson states that the female quest is essentially different from the male,
in the sense that the very basics of the female quest is different. This perspective can be seen in many
books, but is especially noteworthy in Bilbo s and Tenar s quests in The Hobbit and The Tombs of
Atuan respectively. Bilbo s adventure is across Middle Earth, yet, Tenar s is concentrated within the
Tombs. Whereas Bilbo s quest is external to himself, focusing more on the adventure and how he
needs to adapt to gain success, Tenar s quest is internal, it focuses on personal growth and her world
challenges her to change herself. The female quest tends to be more internal to the heroine. For
instance, the change from girl to a woman, lessons learned and quests being won by being clever,
caring, or wise in general. The Tombs of Atuan is a very internal quest as it follows Tenar, whom
learns and grows as she searches the caves mysteries deeper. The sexual allegory of searching the
caves is quite blatant when realized. Ursula Le Guin, the author of The Tombs of Atuan said herself
that the story is about sex, however it is more distinctively about female sexuality. As the class notes
point out, as Ged drags Tenar out of the tombs, Tenar screaming, Arha is reborn into Tenar, escaping
the maw of the tomb as a child escapes their mother s womb, enhancing the contextual

Keats s Reflection Of Autumn, The Season Of Fog And Growth
The poet speaks of autumn, the season of fog and production. The first line portrays autumn as a
period of growth. Autumn is a close friend of the maturing sun. The word maturing is used to describe
the shorter daylight of winter. Together, autumn and the sun help the vines that wrap around thatched
roofs bear fruit. The image of growth persists in the following lines; the poet describes plants and
fruits bending or changing shape in reaction to their development: trees bend with the weight of
ripening apples, gourds grow in size, and kernels develop in the centers of hazelnuts. Flowers continue
to multiply until the bees feel as if warm days will never end. Summer has made its harvest so
bountiful that it s described as o er brimmed or bursting. In the second stanza, the poet directly
addresses autumn. To Keats, autumn is a figure that can be found in the middle of its job, which is to
facilitate nature s growth. Autumn can be discovered sitting in a granary, or storehouse for threshed
grain, the blowing wind lifting autumn s hair. Someone might also stumble across autumn asleep
outside on a half harvested trench, made drowsy by the scent of poppies. Autumn s scythe is unused
against the next line of flowers. The poet additionally compares autumn to a gleaner who carries the
leftovers of the harvest on top of her head while she crosses a stream. Another activity of autumn is to
watch the juice being squeezed from apples for hours. The third stanza opens with the

Tibet Imperialism
Vincenzo Villeggiante
Tibet has had a very long history within and outside of China. For many years, Tibet was its own
kingdom, ruling over the plateau for which it is named with full sovereignty. However, Tibet
eventually came under the official rule of the Qing dynasty, the Manchu dynasty of China. Within
Qing, Tibet retained a very high level of local autonomy, having its own government and many
qualities similar to independent countries. In some ways, it didn t even identify as being part of Qing.
An example is the time when China was divided into multiple spheres of influence between European
powers. The British had enforced a trade law on China, but the Dalai Lama at the time refused to obey,
citing Tibet as not part of China. This continued ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Republic of China never attained direct control over Tibet, and so there was a de facto
independent Tibetan state. This unofficial and unrecognized country continued to exist for about forty
years. During this time, Tibet was controlled by a very conservative people. Refusing to modernize
and/or industrialize. When the communist revolution in China occurred, and the former government
fled to Taiwan, they would have to face a new threat: the People s Republic of China. The People s
Republic claimed that the Tibetan government was exploiting the citizens as serfs, and that they
should be liberated from them by none other than the People s Liberation Army. Although Tibet
actually had a high resemblance to medieval European feudalism, the government never exploited the
citizens per se. When the PLA was at their doorstep, they were nowhere near prepared and were
conquered by the Chinese. They were eventually officially annexed into China, and the 14th Dalai
Lama was exiled to India. Under the PRC, the Tibetans endured many hardships that were brought
upon them. The so called Great Leap Forward led to widespread starvation, and the Great Proletarian
Cultural Revolution led the Red Army to destroy thousands of cultural artifacts and sites,

Coca-Cola Competitive Formula
Since 1886, a pharmacist named John S. Pemberton developed the original mixture of Coca Cola

One of the features that brought Coca Cola to be as the King of beverage is the exclusive formula.

7 Prayers Of Jesus Research Paper
What do you learn by reading several of the twenty seven prayers of Jesus?
There is a lot to be learned when reading Jesus prayers. It s also worthy to note as a reader I don t just
look at the verse that was the prayer, bur also look before and after. I find reading the context the
prayer was developed around is very important. I will start off my reviewing several prayers I have
chosen from the list and give you what I learned and in the end summarize my thoughts.
Starting with Hebrews 2:12, Jesus prays to the Lord and states that he will proclaim his name to the
community. He states, in the midst of congregation I will praise you . That line really stands out to me
and makes me think, why does Jesus the Son of God pray to himself? ... Show more content on

There are many different genres in the Bible. More so there are tons of prayer going in the Bible that
fit into different genres. Looking at different literary literary devices that encompasses genre we can
begin to see how prayer really is a genre and what distinguishes it as such.
Jesus tells us how to pray. [Matthew 6:9 13] This is an example of technique which fits into what
makes prayer a genre. Jesus was showing how prayer should be done specifically. There is also
different historical time frames in regards to prayer. Looking at how Abraham prayed in Genesis 18 to
how Jonah prayed in Jonah 2 you can see a major difference in the times.
Looking at Jonah 2, you can see that Jonah s prayer to God is a Psalm. Jonah uses metaphors
throughout this prayer. Going back to Abraham s prayer he is speaking with no metaphors or
figurative language to God. This is very important because the differences is what makes prayer have
different genres.
Different tones in prayer are heard as well, from when Jesus was begging God to not to kill him on the
cross [Matthew 26:39] to Jesus in a much joyful tone as he rejoices. [Luke 10:21] Not only tone sets a
genre but so does the content of the prayer which changes from character to character in the Bible.
These are just a few examples of what distinguishes prayer as a

The Two Act Comic Opera Barbier Von Bagdad
Haixu Liu
Professor Rena C. Mueller
History of European Opera

Barbier Von Bagdad The two act comic opera Barbier Von Bagdad is a two act opera composed by
Peter Cornelius to a German Libretto by the composer in 1858. The libretto is based on two stories,
The Tale of the Tailor and The Barber s Stories of his Six Brothers from The Arabian Nights, as
commonly known as One Thousand and One Nights. This collection of Middle Eastern, Indian, and
North and Western African stories of unknown date and authorship was written in 9th century, when
the Arabs were rapidly expanding their territories and the influence of Islam. The stories in the
collection praised the virtues from the Arabians standard and spread their value around the world. As
one of the most well known Middle Eastern literature, One Thousand and One Nights has not only set
the story of Barbier Von Bagdad in an exoticized world, but also fit into the German people s typical
view of Arab, ensuring that the audience could easily accept the characters. The composer Peter
Cornelius was born in mainz into a family with theatrical background. His career started off as an
actor, but later Cornelius studied violin and learnt composition with Heinrich Esser in Berlin. In
Cornelius early life, he was initially interested in literature, instead of music. This explained why he
later became a prolific critic. In 1849, Cornelius accomplished his first libretto for a one act short
comic opera. Even though

The World Apart Doctrine By Leibniz
The metaphysical picture conveyed in the works of Leibniz is especially difficult to decipher, given
the scattering of his views among numerous papers and their profound interconnection with one
another. In this paper, the World Apart Doctrine will be explicated as it appears in Section 14 of the
Discourse on Metaphysics. As this excerpt alone is insufficient in explaining the role the thesis plays
in Leibniz s view as a whole, it will be broken down and analyzed as it relates to connected doctrines,
namely those of Universal Expression, Pre Established Harmony, and Predicate In Notion. The
compatibility of the World Apart doctrine with each of these fundamental views will be considered,
and it will be argued that, in all three cases, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For if I express the entire universe and it appears to me as though I am perceiving a cat along with a
collection of other individuals, how could I retain the perception that the perception is indeed shared
and express perceptions of other substances, which are not occurring? It could be protested that I
would be expressing possible beings, and so there is no issue with the appearance of a shared
perception with other substances. However, without my perception of the cat being shared by any
other substances (despite having the appearance to me of being collective), it seems as though
expressions of God and the universe would somehow be less diverse and, therefore, less perfect than if
my perception was shared. The most comprehensive expression of the universe, in this context, would

Sustainable Agriculture Is Important Industry All Over The...
We often forget where our food comes from and how much time and energy goes into what we eat.
Our awareness doesn t stray far from grocery stores and their orderly aisles of products ready for
consumption. With this ease of availability, It s hard for most to imagine the lengthy process that goes
into something like a simple sandwich. On a larger scale, agriculture is an important industry all over
the globe. And the effects it has on the environment and consumers are seen everywhere from
inefficient water usage, harmful herbicides, soil nutrient depletion, to deforestation and harmful or
unregulated produce, which is why sustainable agriculture is so important. It makes senses for us as
customers to understand the effects our food industry has, because whether or not you ve stepped foot
in a field, your money is the driving impact on which farms and their techniques will continue or

Sustainable agriculture is the process of increasing yields without depleting resources or harming the
environment. As the world population quickly grows, the need for better farm management becomes a
global concern. From a small vegetable garden or a rice farm all the way too large industry producers,
agriculture is everywhere as are the people that require it. Agronomy counts for a large portion of our

The Role Of Capital Punishment In Judaism
The right to life is a privilege that all humans have, but this right has become a topic of disagreement
and in many situations people feel that it is acceptable to take this right away from another person.
Either by capital punishment or by abortions we find ourselves in the position where others are
dictating the outcome of another person s life. These two topics have brought a great deal debates,
new ruling and changes in the law. The controversy that surrounds them are driven by the strong
opinions and in many case the emotional feeling people have about them. Play a major driving force
in the disagreement in this two topics are the different religious beliefs. In many ways both the Roman
Catholic and Jewish faith views on these two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is very interesting that this idea is supported in Judaism because there are over thirty accounts of
capital punishment in the Old Testament. There are also very well known quotes from the Old
Testament on capital punishment such as a life for a life, an eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth
(Deuteronomy 19:21), and A man who spills human blood, should have his blood spilled (Genesis
9:6). Although the Jewish and Roman Catholic views are very similar to one another, the one thing
that makes these two views different is that the Jewish faith says that the death penalty should exist.
Steven Davidoff stated supports this when he stated, The Jewish view on the death penalty is that it
should exist but it should never be used (Davidoff 93). This is a very interesting statement because
what it is telling us is that the Jewish faith believes that the death penalty should be used as a
deterrent. This idea is a great way to look at capital punishment because if the idea of death being a
punishment is enforce many criminals are more likely to think twice before committing a serious

Lymphatic System
Lymph nodes when we are health
The lymphatic system is collected of lymph vessels, lymph nodes, and organs. The functions of this
system include the absorption of excess fluid and its return to the blood stream, absorption of fat (in
the villi of the small intestine) and the immune system function.
The lymphatic system is made up of groups of lymph nodes throughout the body, which are connected
by a network of lymph vessels.
The lymphatic system:
acts as a one way drainage system transporting fluid from body tissues into the blood circulation
contains white blood cells called lymphocytes, which fight infection
gets rid of waste products produced by cells. The lymphatic system
Lymph fluid
This is the liquid that flows through the lymph vessels and the lymph nodes. It forms when excess
liquid, from the fluid that surrounds all our body tissues, drains into small lymph vessels.
Lymph vessels are a network of tubes that go all over the body. Some are tiny channels just under the
skin, which can be easily damaged if the skin is broken. Small lymph vessels join together to form
larger lymph vessels, which pass through lymph nodes. The fluid then travels through larger lymph
tubes and drains into the bloodstream.

When the body is in good health the system has no problem in working as the lymph nodes filter and
cleans the fluids in the bloodstream the lymph nodes are small, however when an infection occurs then
things are slightly different as the lymph nodes increase in size and swell up this is because the
lymphocytes are working hard to fight the infection. At times there is more waste than the liver and
kidney can remove and this accumulates in the blood and lymph channel causing infections and
illnesses like tonsillitis, appendicitis and fibrocystic

The Psychodynamic Theories Of Depression
Psychodynamic Theory The psychodynamic theory was the dominant school of thought within
psychiatry and much of clinical psychology during the first part of the 20th century. There are multiple
explanations that fall under the psychodynamic categories that explain why a person develops
depressive symptoms. Psychoanalysts historically believed that depression was caused by anger
converted into self hatred or anger that turns inward. Historically, psychodynamic theories were
extensively criticized for their lack of empiricism. According to interpersonal theory, a depressed
person s negative interpersonal behaviors cause other people to reject them. In an escalating cycle,
depressed people, who desperately want reassurance from others, start ... Show more content on

That s because the image of the psychiatrist and patient probing the past is a staple of our popular
culture. It can be found on sitcoms or in joke. Notwithstanding that image of therapy that is portrayed,
there are many common features of treatments for depression such as a provision of hope, support,
and a theoretical framework concerning the origins of and potential cure for the disorder, studies do
show important differences between psychodynamic and other treatments. First, perhaps more so than
any other treatment, PT focus on the patient s internal world, that is, illustrations or intellectual
affective schemas of self and others that influence our perceptions, thoughts, feelings and actions,
including an emphasis on the role of an unconscious motivation of the individual. The importance of
psychodynamic approaches to depression is how the unconscious motivational factors lead the patient
to perceive and interpret outward reality and experiences and to create reluctantly problems that
maintain depressive symptoms, particularly in interactive relationships. For example, some individuals
may unconsciously avoid any clear expression of aggression in close relationships for fear of
abandonment although they may feel very frustrated and dissatisfied. Likewise, because of their high
standards and competitiveness, highly self critical

God s Predestination
In the articles, The Decree: Trinity and predestination , Creation: God s Time for Us , and Providence
God s Care for all He has made by Michael Horton we learn that the doctrine of God s predestination
of all things is clearly taught in scripture. Creation is not the result of primordial violence or conflict,
but the free decision, and generous, outgoing activity of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit in covenant love.
God s providence is his sustenance and governance of all things, including sin and evil, for good of his
people and the glory of his wisdom and grace in Christ. The author will provide several arguments for
each of the following terms: decree, creation, and providence.
To begin with, the author states that predestination is clearly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The creation narrative is not a myth, but an account of God s free historical act and his claim upon all
reality. The pattern of ex nihilo creation is a constant biblical parallel for the new creation language of
redemption. The doctrine of creation is at the heart of the sharp contrast between the biblical
worldview and the various monisms and dualisms of pagan ontologies. The author talks about creative
communication and the integrity of creation. He said that the Bible represents God s personal effective
speech. Humans were created as communicative partners in this covenant, to lead the rest of creation
in its hearing of God s speech and response of praise. He also presented beyond God of the gaps in
which he developed the God of the Gap apologetic and design and contingency. Finally in chapter ten,
he addressed I am the alpha and the omega : original, continual, and new creation in which he said that
God s act not only of preserving creatures but continually bringing about their fruitfulness and their
ongoing diversity. Furthermore in chapter eleven, he stated that providence is based on scripture.
There are three classes of scripture passages regarding providence such as soteriology, common grace,
and theodicy. Many Christians who have trouble accepting divine sovereignty in salvation
nevertheless recognize God s absolute lordship over nature and history. The author mention that
scripture does not say that God does all things himself, or that everything that happens is good in
itself, but that God works all things together for our good. He talks about concursus, or concurrence
which refers to the simultaneity of divine and human agency in actions or events. In permitting evil,
God not only lets it happen; he determines how far it will go and how he will work it for

The Life Of The 1950 S Essay
The 1950 s were considered to be a time where life was full of bliss, who wouldn t want to be
untroubled? Life in the 1950 s was simple and structured, and now it seems as though the Happy days
have disappeared. The 1950 s are considered The Happy Days because life was so well put together
back then and now, it seems, it has all fallen apart. The 1950 TV shows, like Leave it to Beaver, has
the American society believing that life was perfect . Seeing the shows makes one imagine that the
family life was splendid, the style was flawless and modest, everyone got along, neighbors were
friendly, and that the changes happening were for the best. In a way that was very true. People in the
society knew their place; In a typical 1950 s family, the father and mother had specific roles they had
to fulfill, and even the children had certain responsibilities. The men were the head of the household
and usually worked to provide for the family. The women of the 1950 s society were stay at home
moms, occasionally working a job as teachers or nurses. Men and women of that time were well
mannered, clean, and classy. When the man and woman walked down the street, the man would walk
on the outside or the road side to protect the woman from traffic. Men would also tip there hats as a
kind gesture when they walked past a woman. Life just seemed to be in place in the 1950 s, yes, it

Socialization Of Homeschool
Parents have the right to choose the path for their child education. They should take the time to
consider the long term effect it could have on their child. Home schooled children could be missing
out on valuable lessons in life and the opportunity to participate in school activities and sporting
events. Socialization plays an important part of a child s growth and understanding of the real world.
Children must learn to respect people in authority outside of the home setting. Just anyone can not
teach education; there should be some guidelines for homeschool just as there are for public schools.
There are many memories made from public or private school settings. As one smart person once
stated, If there were no schools to take the children away from home part of the time, the insane
asylums would be filled with mothers. (Howe). Children and parents need separation periods to
develop and understand different people s perceptive.
Socialization is an important development tool. Every interaction your child has helped him learn
language skills, ways to cope with emotions and how to work within social norms. Once your child is
in school, teachers and peers start to be a major part of socialization, which impacts development by
helping your child feel competent. During early school years, a teacher provides structure and
discipline in a child s day. Homeschool children may not have a structured schedule due to what may
be going on at home. Maybe due to a sibling or

The First Constitution of the Republic of Texas (1836)
The first constitution of Texas adopted on March 1, 1836 opens with these words, We, the people of
Texas, in order to form a Government, establish justice, ensure domestic tranquility, provide for the
common defense and general welfare; and to secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves, and our
posterity, do ordain and establish this constitution . ( Constitution of Republic of Texas pp. 9 25.)
Created in 1836, the first Constitution of the Republic of Texas was born. Fearful of attack by

from the English criminal court system, the provisions calling for the application of judiciary law were
widely used and preferred by most white American settlers when trying criminal court cases. (Ericson,

fifty nine delegates who drafted the first Texas Constitution came from. (Ericson, Joe E.) Priests were

The Legal Aspects Of The Surrogate Pregnancy
For most individuals, surrogacy is the only way to have children. Thus, modern reproductive
technologies are on top. However, there is a question that remains difficult physiologically, legally and
ethically. Let alone the Old Testament Genesis 16, which states that Abraham s wife could not get
pregnant, and her husband had to use a maid Hagar, impregnating her naturally. Slaves, concubines
and peasant, were surrogate mothers by traditional way. Now it is intelligently called partial surrogacy

It is, first of all, the problem of extra embryos and the possibility of their destruction, sale, abuse, and
a number of others that remains unsolved. Theoretically, the number of potential children from one
donor may exceed the entire population of the earth. From a utilitarian s point of view, the act of
surrogacy is ethical as the families as well as the surrogate mother are all happy in the end.
Furthermore, another major ethical question been asked is whether: to hide or not to hide? No state
requires parents who have used surrogate motherhood, to talk about the process with their children.
This will be seen as invasion of privacy and a violation of the autonomy of the family.
A Surrogate mother is a woman who becomes pregnant, carries and delivers a child for another couple

egg and sperm available to authorized parents or donors. For the full surrogacy IVF is used. It is

Reflection On Early Learning
This reflection reviews my time at Goodstart Early Learning in Kyneton and the four weeks I spent
there during my first practicum round. The review will critically reflect my experience from this
practicum, using readings and learnings my strengthens and weaknesses will be revealed. Strategies
will also be implemented in what areas I need to focus on before my next practicum round.
Something that I observed at the beginning of my practicum were the issues concerning behavioural
guidance. There was a group of four boys who required the greatest assistance, my experience in
managing people and being a parent quickly reminded me in how to best support them. Knowing each
child and what their abilities and interests are enable educators to respond sensitively and
appropriately to each child (Cohrssen, Church, Tayler, 2011). I spoke with my mentor and other
educators and discovered the backgrounds of these boys and reasonings for their behaviours. I learnt
by observing the other educators how these behavioural guidance issues were managed and the many
techniques they used. Something I realised with the learning experiences I conducted was the need to
not speak too quickly and be clear and concise with my instructions. As I have had limited interaction
with young children as my stepchildren are now adults, I was unaccustomed in how to effectively
communicate with young children. At the beginning of my practicum the instructions and direction I
was attempting to provide were too

Cannibalism Essay
ABSTRACT
Cannibalism is an act that is thought to be heinous and inconceivable in the minds of men. But,
contrary to what many people think, cannibalism is very much alive and still being practiced within
the continental United States of America; the thing is...the government just hasn t found out about it
yet. This report will take you through the history of cannibalism, the different types of cannibalism,
and the different cases of cannibalism.
Cannibalism is one of the strangest and most horrific American taboos. When the common person
thinks of cannibalism, a ballistic, deranged, serial killer who cuts his victims into pieces and boils
them in bloody water quickly comes to mind. Cannibalism is precisely defined as the eating of one s

All cannibalism is not the same. One way to classify cannibalism is by who is eaten. There are three
ways: autocannibalism eating parts of oneself (not including common traits such as nail biting);
exocannibalism the eating of outsiders or foreigners (such as invaders or enemies); and
endocanniballism the eating of ones own social group. There are also functional types of cannibalism,
based on why someone is eaten: survival cannibalism, religious or ritual cannibalism, and dietary or
gastronomic cannibalism.
Survival cannibalism is one type of cannibalism that clearly without a doubt has occurred and is well
documented. quot;Simply put, survival cannibalism occurs when people are trapped without food in
some way in a boat adrift on the ocean, on a mountain by snowfall and resort to eating other members
of the group quot; (qtd. in The myths and perturbing realities of cannibalism p.1). The most notable
case of survival cannibalism is the case of the Donner party of 1846. A group of 90 immigrants led by
George Donner was caught in a blinding snowstorm high in the Sierra Nevada range of California in
October 1846. Survivors, who made their way out early in 1847, had been forced to resort to eating
the flesh of their comrades in order to survive. The survivors openly admitted to the media

The main reason for the failure, many believe, is because of the Central Intelligence Agency, under the

Examples Of Foil Characters In Romeo And Juliet
Romeo Mercutio Character Foil The play Romeo Juliet presents a few specific character foils. The
characters Romeo Mercutio develop a unique foil; Mercutio, the player, and Romeo, the lover. Both
characters have unique characteristics that set themselves apart, but all in all, bind them together.
Romeo is one of the main characters in the play. Romeo is romantic and has a passion to love and be
loved. He uses words to express his love. Firstly, for example, in Act 1 Scene 5, If I profane with my
unworthiest hand, this holy shrine, the gentle sin is this; my lips, two blushing pilgrims, ready stand.

He is a player and has a different outlook on love. Primarily, in Act 1 Scene 4, Mercutio says If love
be rough with you, be rough with love; Prick love for pricking, and you beat love down. (W.
Shakespeare 829) He suggests that Romeo disregard love, and in addition, to have sex to get over it.
Also, one possible reason that Mercutio despises love is that he s possibly heartbroken. Secondly, in
Act 1 Scene 4, he describes Queen Mab as one who gives people what they want, in her dreams. For
example, On courtiers knees, that dream on curtsies straight; O er lawyers fingers, who straight dream
on fees; O er ladies lips, who straight on kisses dream. (W. Shakespeare 830) These dreams are
insignificant, and as a result, Mercutio tells Romeo about Queen Mab; his dreams about Juliet are
insignificant. Finally, Mercutio is apparently jealous of Romeo. Throughout Romeo and Juliet, his
lines label him as a pessimistic non lover. In Act 2 Scene 4, Mercutio says Alas, poor Romeo! He is
already dead, stabbed with a white wench s black eye, shot through the ear with a love song, the very
pin of his heart cleft with the blind bow boy s butt shaft. And is he a man to encounter Tybalt? (W.

How Self Justification Is Drives Escalation Of Commitment
The article, How self justification indirectly drives escalation of commitment a motivational
perspective , examines different influences on decision making. It demonstrates that people possess
the need for self justification and that self justification drives the escalation of commitment.
Steinkuhler, Mahlendorf, Brettel (2014) argue that the escalation of commitment phenomenon results
from indirect cognitive processes such as selective perception sunk cost, and over optimism ( p.66).
The article also details various studies conducted to validate findings on how cognitive processes
further propel the escalation of commitment effect. This paper summarizes the Steinkuhler,
Mahlendorf, Brettel findings. It also provides a more detailed example of how a major product launch
from Mattel ended in failure in part because of selective perception. Escalation of Commitment There
are times when executives make decisions without being certain of a particular outcome. They take
risk. Unfortunately, taking risk can lead to loss. Loss can be in the form of money, time, reputation etc.
Escalation of commitment occurs when decision makers escalate their commitment by continuing to
invest resources and persist beyond an economically rational point to terminate a failing project
(Steinkuhler, Mahlendorf, Brettel, 2014, p. 192). Let s take the American invasion of Iraq in 2003.

Leading Community Businesses And Governments Admit...
Introduction Leading community businesses and governments admit Corporate Social Responsibility
(CSR) as an official policy objective. Those companies who apply CSR are able to maintain
sustainable progress. This development covers social, economic and environmental influence in how
they run (Clegg, 2011, p. 216). Three areas are the bases of the triple bottom line (TBL) approach
(Elkington, 1994). CSR itself has various meaning but in more simple way it can be defined as firms
obligation to act ethically and to facilitate elaboration. Thereby they try to make employees life better
and likewise help to demonstrate a positive impact on local society. Therefore businesses are
responsible for two factors of how they operate. Firstly, they should be concerned about the quality of
management including people and operations. Secondly, they have to consider the character and
amount of their effect on community in different fields. External stakeholders take a huge concern on
how an organisation acts whether they perform well in their products, services, and society or not.
Moreover they take an interest in how they care towards the workforce (Baker, 2004). The following
paper demonstrates the major reasons of why businesses should take CSR seriously and what
advantages does CSR have when they use it. First aspect will be related to reputation and brand image.
Then it will be followed by strategy of cost reduction. Third aspect will explain the approaches to gain

The Roman Republic began in 509BC when the Romans overthrew the Etruscans and established a

The Senate commanded Caesar to surrender his legions in late 50BC. (Roman Civil Wars of 88 30

city of Ariminum, which allowed him to cut off Cisalpine Gaul from Italy.5 Pompey tried to keep
Caesar back, and with Pompey s army being twice the size of Caesar s one would assume he could

3.3% in 2015. ZOE made a strong contribution to this performance. In the first six months of 2015,
continued Renault in Europe was the best selling manufacturer of electric vehicles. (Dow Jones
Factiva, 2017).
d) Substitute products and manufacturers in the same market
Although the market is dominated by HEV, the industries new car sales in 2015 by 86.1%, there is
evidence that the sales of 100% EV have recently experienced particularly strong growth. (Mason,
2017a) Please see appendix A for further details on new registrations of HEV and EV from 2011 to

What Does The Light Symbolize In The Black Cat
Authors who write literature often put their feelings into their work which can cause us to connect
with how the authors feel sometimes. Authors as well have some sort of past so that often without
thinking write something that can be a symbolize something from their past, so if they had a bad past
then their literature may be tragic or gothic. For example The Black Cat written by Edgar Allan Poe
uses a light and dark theme which can go along with the gothic theme. Light and Dark symbolize how
dark Poe s childhood was since he writes about death, murder, and other gory storylines. Poe uses
light and dark to show the different aspects of the narrators and how guilt can consume a person. One
example of the thesis is the black cat who was in the wall with the corpse the whole time. The quote
for this found on page eight goes like this I had walled the monster up within the wall so the narrator
never noticed when the cat slipped into the tomb with the corpse and was in the tomb for days. This
quote supports the thesis ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The quote for the light part of my thesis is I love the old man this represents the light part because he
loved him he cared for the old man but couldn t hold back his fears and madness. The dark quote is
Villans! I shrieked, dissemble no more! I admit the deed! tear up the planks here, here! It is the beating
of his hideous heart this means that the guilt has consumed him but before that he went through so
much madness because of the vulture eye that it caused the narrator to murder the old man even tho he
loved the old man. The eye I believe is like a vulture s eye because I believe that the old man had
cataracts causing to have a vulture like eye because vultures usually have a eye with cataracts. So in
conclusion The Tell Tale Heart does represent my

Medieval Total War
Creating a video game genre entirely of its own, the popular and successful Total War series offers six
titles to date with a seventh near completion due for release in the fall of 2008. The first game Shogun
Total War was a cut above the rest for its time where players chose one of the main feudal Japanese
factions and vied for a unified ancient Japan. There was a strategic phase where players ruled their
lands and a battle mode where players controlled their units like chess pieces from a god mode like
view. Then came Medieval Total War with some improvements to the concept. Medieval Total War (1)
took the game to feudal Europe, Northern Africa, and part of the Middle East. Improvements included
more manageable armies in the combat ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Comparing Macbeth And Throne Of Blood
Celeste Martinez

Macbeth Comparative Essay In the play Macbeth by William Shakespeare and the movie Throne of
Blood by Akira Kurosawa, there are two very different narratives. Both specify the same conflict of
Macbeth killing Duncan and him becoming king and having the same characters. The narratives do
have differences relating to the characters on how the stories both play out. In Shakespeare s play
Macbeth the setting takes place in Scotland speaking with their own language. In the movie Throne of
Blood the setting is in Japan were of course Japanese is spoken having a difference from both
narratives. There are many minor differences stories as they both play out yet the plot seems to be
very similar. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Shakespeare wrote his plays he always throws in a drama. As for the director of Throne of Blood
he put all the drama in the ending. The reason why he took away the scenes of Macduff s family.
Kurosawa s narrative became a dramatic irony until the violent ending. Kurosawa did not want
Washizu to die at the hands of a grieving father and husband. He decided to end it with Washizu s
soldiers killing him making the movie have a dramatic change. As for Shakespeare his play involved
of a killer being able to kill the father, Banquo, but not the son, Fleance. Both amazing narratives, yet
written differently to end the story of Macbeth s death. As always not everything can be similar from a
story to a movie. A movie will always be written or directed in any way the director writes the scripts
for the actors. Such as plays they are written the way the writers would want the actors to perform
because they would know how the audience will be captivated by the drama. Shakespeare and
Kurosawa had different ways to write both narratives yet both came out in their own unique way. As
for the audience they could enjoy either both. The same conflicts Macbeth had to show in both
narratives was the murder of the king. Later to him becoming a king that he started to kill anyone who
tried to come at his way. When he became arrogant he dies in the end

ENG 150 18 October 2012 The Negative Effects of the Fashion Industry on Eating Disorders While it s fashion week in London, the size zero models start to prepare for the big show by purging to be as thin as possible. Most models starve themselves in order to achieve the waif , stick thin figure; it becomes so addictive, almost like second nature that it further leads to serious eating disorders. From recent studies, today s model weighs about 23% less than the normal woman. Clearly, most models do not depict the average woman. Men and women all over the world follow the influences that the fashion industry provides. They believe that the fashion industry depicts on what society should be acknowledged as, picture perfect thin. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A large contributing factor to this problem is that many people in the fashion world encourage the use of overly thin models in editorials and fashion shows. For example, as Kathryn Shattuck, What s On Today: [The Arts/Cultural Desk], mentions that Kelly Cutrone, world renowned fashion publicist, encourages, Clothes look better on thin people. The fabric hangs better (1). The fashion industry s emphasis on being thin and its use of extremely underweight models in unacceptable. Many people would agree that the fashion industry plays the majority role in eating disorders, but Lisa Hilton, British Vogue writer, disagrees. Hilton argues, Its objective is selling clothes, and the consensus remains that in order to achieve this, models need to be thin . . . Fashion is about fantasy, about impossibility, about, dare we say it, art. Most women can t tell the difference (1). Hilton condescendingly continues to refute the criticisms that models are too thin and the fashion industry encourages eating disorders. More recently, Sports Illustrated model, Kate Upton whom is a size 4, is now considered a plus size model and deemed to be too curvy . In the United States the normal sized woman is between the size of 6 and 10. Most of us do not understand why some put themselves through so much anguish to satisfy these body image complexes. I was given the opportunity to fully observe the complexity of octopi in their natural habitat. I realized these animals capabilities people fear these almost harmless animals? In the past, I truly enjoyed the savory taste of a variety of octopus inspired meals. Many people disregard the octopus, giving it little to no thought unless there is a debate for dinner. Thinking of it as another average creature, as I did, with little to no intelligence, this is a common misconception that is meant to give some kind of justification when consuming the animal. In reality, octopi are one of the most intelligent species, having highly developed sentient characteristics. • 7. The Hobbit And The Tombs Of Atuan Although literature can have male or female protagonists, the heroes quest does traditionally differ based on their gender. Carol Pearson states that the female quest is essentially different from the male, in the sense that the very basics of the female quest is different. This perspective can be seen in many books, but is especially noteworthy in Bilbo s and Tenar s quests in The Hobbit and The Tombs of Atuan respectively. Bilbo s adventure is across Middle Earth, yet, Tenar s is concentrated within the Tombs. Whereas Bilbo s quest is external to himself, focusing more on the adventure and how he needs to adapt to gain success, Tenar s quest is internal, it focuses on personal growth and her world challenges her to change herself. The female quest tends to be more internal to the heroine. For instance, the change from girl to a woman, lessons learned and quests being won by being clever, caring, or wise in general. The Tombs of Atuan is a very internal quest as it follows Tenar, whom learns and grows as she searches the caves mysteries deeper. The sexual allegory of searching the caves is quite blatant when realized. Ursula Le Guin, the author of The Tombs of Atuan said herself that the story is about sex, however it is more distinctively about female sexuality. As the class notes point out, as Ged drags Tenar out of the tombs, Tenar screaming, Arha is reborn into Tenar, escaping the maw of the tomb as a child escapes their mother s womb, enhancing the contextual ... • 8. Keats s Reflection Of Autumn, The Season Of Fog And Growth The poet speaks of autumn, the season of fog and production. The first line portrays autumn as a period of growth. Autumn is a close friend of the maturing sun. The word maturing is used to describe the shorter daylight of winter. Together, autumn and the sun help the vines that wrap around thatched roofs bear fruit. The image of growth persists in the following lines; the poet describes plants and fruits bending or changing shape in reaction to their development: trees bend with the weight of ripening apples, gourds grow in size, and kernels develop in the centers of hazelnuts. Flowers continue to multiply until the bees feel as if warm days will never end. Summer has made its harvest so bountiful that it s described as o er brimmed or bursting. In the second stanza, the poet directly addresses autumn. To Keats, autumn is a figure that can be found in the middle of its job, which is to facilitate nature s growth. Autumn can be discovered sitting in a granary, or storehouse for threshed grain, the blowing wind lifting autumn s hair. Someone might also stumble across autumn asleep outside on a half harvested trench, made drowsy by the scent of poppies. Autumn s scythe is unused against the next line of flowers. The poet additionally compares autumn to a gleaner who carries the leftovers of the harvest on top of her head while she crosses a stream. Another activity of autumn is to watch the juice being squeezed from apples for hours. The third stanza opens with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For many years, Tibet was its own kingdom, ruling over the plateau for which it is named with full sovereignty. However, Tibet eventually came under the official rule of the Qing dynasty, the Manchu dynasty of China. Within Qing, Tibet retained a very high level of local autonomy, having its own government and many qualities similar to independent countries. In some ways, it didn t even identify as being part of Qing. An example is the time when China was divided into multiple spheres of influence between European powers. When the communist revolution in China occurred, and the former government fled to Taiwan, they would have to face a new threat: the People s Republic of China. The People s Republic claimed that the Tibetan government was exploiting the citizens as serfs, and that they should be liberated from them by none other than the People s Liberation Army. Although Tibet actually had a high resemblance to medieval European feudalism, the government never exploited the citizens per se. When the PLA was at their doorstep, they were nowhere near prepared and were conquered by the Chinese. They were eventually officially annexed into China, and the 14th Dalai Lama was exiled to India. Starting with Hebrews 2:12, Jesus prays to the Lord and states that he will proclaim his name to the community. He states, in the midst of congregation I will praise you . More so there are tons of prayer going in the Bible that fit into different genres. Looking at different literary literary devices that encompasses genre we can begin to see how prayer really is a genre and what distinguishes it as such. Jesus tells us how to pray. [Matthew 6:9 13] This is an example of technique which fits into what makes prayer a genre. Jesus was showing how prayer should be done specifically. There is also different historical time frames in regards to prayer. Looking at how Abraham prayed in Genesis 18 to how Jonah prayed in Jonah 2 you can see a major difference in the times. Looking at Jonah 2, you can see that Jonah s prayer to God is a Psalm. Jonah uses metaphors throughout this prayer. Going back to Abraham s prayer he is speaking with no metaphors or figurative language to God. This is very important because the differences is what makes prayer have different genres. Different tones in prayer are heard as well, from when Jesus was begging God to not to kill him on the cross [Matthew 26:39] to Jesus in a much joyful tone as he rejoices. [Luke 10:21] Not only tone sets a genre but so does the content of the prayer which changes from character to character in the Bible. • 14. The Two Act Comic Opera Barbier Von Bagdad Haixu Liu Professor Rena C. Mueller History of European Opera Tuesday, December 9, 14 Barbier Von Bagdad The two act comic opera Barbier Von Bagdad is a two act opera composed by Peter Cornelius to a German Libretto by the composer in 1858. The libretto is based on two stories, The Tale of the Tailor and The Barber s Stories of his Six Brothers from The Arabian Nights, as commonly known as One Thousand and One Nights. This collection of Middle Eastern, Indian, and North and Western African stories of unknown date and authorship was written in 9th century, when the Arabs were rapidly expanding their territories and the influence of Islam. The stories in the collection praised the virtues from the Arabians standard and spread their value around the world. As one of the most well known Middle Eastern literature, One Thousand and One Nights has not only set the story of Barbier Von Bagdad in an exoticized world, but also fit into the German people s typical view of Arab, ensuring that the audience could easily accept the characters. The composer Peter Cornelius was born in mainz into a family with theatrical background. His career started off as an actor, but later Cornelius studied violin and learnt composition with Heinrich Esser in Berlin. In Cornelius early life, he was initially interested in literature, instead of music. This explained why he later became a prolific critic. As this excerpt alone is insufficient in explaining the role the thesis plays in Leibniz s view as a whole, it will be broken down and analyzed as it relates to connected doctrines, namely those of Universal Expression, Pre Established Harmony, and Predicate In Notion. There are also very well known quotes from the Old Testament on capital punishment such as a life for a life, an eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth (Deuteronomy 19:21), and A man who spills human blood, should have his blood spilled (Genesis 9:6). Although the Jewish and Roman Catholic views are very similar to one another, the one thing that makes these two views different is that the Jewish faith says that the death penalty should exist. Steven Davidoff stated supports this when he stated, The Jewish view on the death penalty is that it should exist but it should never be used (Davidoff 93). This is a very interesting statement because what it is telling us is that the Jewish faith believes that the death penalty should be used as a deterrent. This idea is a great way to look at capital punishment because if the idea of death being a punishment is enforce many criminals are more likely to think twice before committing a serious crime. Despite the current view on capital punishment, in early Jewish Law the idea of the death penalty was supported, but this was due to the fact that other laws and Israel traditions at the time clashed. The Psychodynamic Theories Of Depression Psychodynamic Theory The psychodynamic theory was the dominant school of thought within psychiatry and much of clinical psychology during the first part of the 20th century. There are multiple explanations that fall under the psychodynamic categories that explain why a person develops depressive symptoms. Psychoanalysts historically believed that depression was caused by anger converted into self hatred or anger that turns inward. Historically, psychodynamic theories were extensively criticized for their lack of empiricism. God s Predestination In the articles, The Decree: Trinity and predestination , Creation: God s Time for Us , and Providence God s Care for all He has made by Michael Horton we learn that the doctrine of God s predestination of all things is clearly taught in scripture. Creation is not the result of primordial violence or conflict, but the free decision, and generous, outgoing activity of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit in covenant love. God s providence is his sustenance and governance of all things, including sin and evil, for good of his people and the glory of his wisdom and grace in Christ. The author talks about creative communication and the integrity of creation. He said that the Bible represents God s personal effective speech. Humans were created as communicative partners in this covenant, to lead the rest of creation in its hearing of God s speech and response of praise. He also presented beyond God of the gaps in which he developed the God of the Gap apologetic and design and contingency. Finally in chapter ten, he addressed I am the alpha and the omega : original, continual, and new creation in which he said that God s act not only of preserving creatures but continually bringing about their fruitfulness and their ongoing diversity. Many Christians who have trouble accepting divine sovereignty in salvation nevertheless recognize God s absolute lordship over nature and history. The author mention that scripture does not say that God does all things himself, or that everything that happens is good in itself, but that God works all things together for our good. Those companies who apply CSR are able to maintain sustainable progress. This development covers social, economic and environmental influence in how they run (Clegg, 2011, p. 216). Three areas are the bases of the triple bottom line (TBL) approach (Elkington, 1994). CSR itself has various meaning but in more simple way it can be defined as firms obligation to act ethically and to facilitate elaboration. Thereby they try to make employees life better and likewise help to demonstrate a positive impact on local society. Therefore businesses are responsible for two factors of how they operate. Firstly, they should be concerned about the quality of management including people and operations. Secondly, they have to consider the character and amount of their effect on community in different fields. External stakeholders take a huge concern on how an organisation acts whether they perform well in their products, services, and society or not. • 43. What Does The Light Symbolize In The Black Cat Authors who write literature often put their feelings into their work which can cause us to connect with how the authors feel sometimes. Authors as well have some sort of past so that often without thinking write something that can be a symbolize something from their past, so if they had a bad past then their literature may be tragic or gothic. For example The Black Cat written by Edgar Allan Poe uses a light and dark theme which can go along with the gothic theme. Light and Dark symbolize how dark Poe s childhood was since he writes about death, murder, and other gory storylines. Poe uses light and dark to show the different aspects of the narrators and how guilt can consume a person. One example of the thesis is the black cat who was in the wall with the corpse the whole time. The quote for this found on page eight goes like this I had walled the monster up within the wall so the narrator never noticed when the cat slipped into the tomb with the corpse and was in the tomb for days. This quote supports the thesis ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The dark quote is Villans! I shrieked, dissemble no more! I admit the deed! tear up the planks here, here! It is the beating of his hideous heart this means that the guilt has consumed him but before that he went through so much madness because of the vulture eye that it caused the narrator to murder the old man even tho he loved the old man. The eye I believe is like a vulture s eye because I believe that the old man had cataracts causing to have a vulture like eye because vultures usually have a eye with cataracts. Kurosawa s narrative became a dramatic irony until the violent ending. Kurosawa did not want Washizu to die at the hands of a grieving father and husband. He decided to end it with Washizu s soldiers killing him making the movie have a dramatic change. As for Shakespeare his play involved of a killer being able to kill the father, Banquo, but not the son, Fleance. Both amazing narratives, yet written differently to end the story of Macbeth s death. As always not everything can be similar from a story to a movie. A movie will always be written or directed in any way the director writes the scripts for the actors. Such as plays they are written the way the writers would want the actors to perform because they would know how the audience will be captivated by the drama. Shakespeare and Kurosawa had different ways to write both narratives yet both came out in their own unique way. As for the audience they could enjoy either both. The same conflicts Macbeth had to show in both narratives was the murder of the king. Later to him becoming a king that he started to kill anyone who tried to come at his way.
