Dragon Myths And Legends Essay
Legends tell of gigantic lizard like creatures flying through the sky and being slew by humans.
Beowulf, and Saint George killed dragons in their lives. Dragons lived in places that only crazy people
would ever trek. Dragons are very interesting creatures because they are in legends, heros slew them in
epic battles, and may have hidden themselves in places no mortal man can travel.
Beowulf died by the hand of a dragon. Grendel, a monster who lives at the bottom of a nearby mere, is
provoked by the singing and celebrating of Hrothgar s followers. He appears at the hall late one night
and kills thirty of the warriors in their sleep. For the next twelve years, the fear of Grendel s fury casts
a shadow over the lives of the Danes. Hrothgar and his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Max Weber And Modern Capitalism
Max Weber (1864 1920), like the sociologists before him, was interested in capitalism. However, he
was interested in what he dubbed Modern Capitalism and how it came to be. Instead of just looking at
the effects of this theory, he contemplated on what allowed it to take place. To an extent, he agrees
with Karl Marx on modern capitalism ability to form, but he takes it a step beyond economic
conditions and adds the element of social/ religious conditions. Weber developed what he called the
spirit of capitalism, which looks at modern capitalism and shows what makes modern capitalism
different from speculative, commercial, adventurous, and political capitalism. He noted that in this
type of capitalism people have a mentality that they need to make as much money as possible, which
requires a particular frame of mind that ... strives systematically and rationally in a calling for
legitimate profit (Weber, 2009, The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism, Pg. 80). Thus the
mentality went from working to live to live to work. It was this new ethic that separated modern
capitalism from the rest.
When looking at the features that allowed capitalism to come to fruition, Weber noted that a cause and
effect relationship needs to occur. Weber, like Marx considered objective factors that contributed to
the rise of capitalism. Marx believed that the successful emergence of a new system was made
possible by changes in the economic world. The influx of precious metals from

The Myth Of Moral Systems Essay
Throughout the centuries, philosophers, theologians, and many others have grappled with the question
of the source of morality. It is difficult for one to argue that objective ethical and moral principles
exist, even though some will attempt to do this, but it is a debated topic when the origins of these
principles, if they even truly exist, come into question. Simply put, most people argue that the origins
of moral systems stem from God, that these things are based in human evolution and constructs, or
that they are born from something separate of them both. I argue that the principles of ethics and
morals do exist and are implanted in humans by God in the form of intrinsic human dignity; the
purpose of these systems are so that God can draw humans into a closer relation with Him. This
statement contrasts the possible views of others that the origin of these principles is natural,
evolutionary, or social constructs that have been instated by humans or something other than God.
To unpack the origins and meanings of moral systems, one must first define what morality is. Finding
a definition of morality is more difficult than it may seem. Some people would define morality as a
code of conduct for living based out of social, religious, or other personal contracts; however, the
concept is broader than that definition implies: ... some might regard it as definitional of morality, in
the normative sense, that it governs only interpersonal interactions. Others, however, might

Comparing Comedy And Comedy
Martin Esslin s definition of drama says that it incorporates a well structured, economical and
unpredictable plot with no boundaries that entertains the audience and allows room for their own
interpretation. This is a basic definition. A vast variety of genres fall under the term drama. Two forms
that are most frequently talked about and compared are comedy and tragedy. Comedy and tragedy
shed light on differences in theatrical storytelling through their contrasting styles and methods of
presenting pieces of theatre. If genres of theatre were put on a spectrum, comedy would fall on one
end while tragedy would on the opposite. Comedy and tragedy are widely different. They follow
various contrasting dramatic constructs invoking the thoughts and emotions pertaining to their genre.
A comedy is a piece of theatre that evokes a feel good response from the audience and allows them to
gently discover an underlying truth about human nature. It breaks expectations and increases a level of
awareness invoking the involuntary biological response of laughter. Laughter places the audience in a
vulnerable state. Laughter is gasping for air with no way of stopping until the comedic effect is no
longer amusing. For this vulnerable state to take into effect, the audience must be willing to go along
with the joke that the story is attempting to convey. Once the trust has been built, and if this it is a
satisfactory production, the successful sound of laughter will commence.

They found out that the 10 16 age range was a tribal and friendship orientated age group, which knew
global issues, trusted the ideas behind comic relief and understood the concept of fairness, but were
unfamiliar with Fair Trading. They chose chocolate based on brand appeal and taste. Therefore, by
exploiting links with comic relief and
Fair Trade the target audience would see Dubble as a popular and trusted product which aimed to
increase fairness in the world.
From my market research, I wanted to find out how popular the product was, and whether any
improvements could be introduced. I needed to ascertain key forms of entertainment used by 10 16
year olds so that the selling and advertising of Dubble could be more focussed. I needed to find out the
proportion of average pocket money spent on chocolates, so that Dubble could be priced accordingly,
and to see if people had heard about fair trading and if not, as to how to best convey the Fair Trade
message. Most teenagers shopped at Safeway s, visited the cinema often, used a varied range of media
and were fairly familiar with the new product. Most spent about a £1/week on chocolate. My findings
also demonstrated that Dubble is best advertised on T.V, as this was the main form of media used

Essay On Supremacy Clause
Supremacy Clause Are South Coast s fleet rules preempted by the federal Clean Air Act? (Cheeseman
79) The Supremacy clause of the U.S. Constitution establishes that the federal constitution, and
federal law generally, take precedence over state laws, and even state constitutions. While in this
particular matter, the statutes of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) would generally trump
the state level regulations of organizations such as the California Air Resources Board (CARB),
however the EPA has also mandated that The setting of these pollutant standards was coupled with
directing the states to develop state implementation plans (SIPs), applicable to appropriate industrial
sources in the state, in order to achieve these standards. (EPA, 2015) The standards in questions are

Often times these more stringent standards are put in place by the EPA as federal standards after
research and testing has been accomplished by those states. An example of this is the required use of
Catalytic converters on pollution controlled motor vehicles in 1974 in California, two years later in
1976, the EPA required the use of Catalytic converters on all pollution controlled motor vehicles
nationwide. Due to the fact that South Coast s standards are more stringent than federal standards, the
association would find that the Supreme Court is more likely to uphold the decisions of the lower
courts; at that time, it is then set at the highest level court and future court cases will have to look at
that precedent as the standard. If the South Coast standard were set at a lower level than the federal
standard established by the EPA, then this is a situation where the Supremacy clause of the
Constitution would come into play in order to mandate compliance with federal law. Equal Protection

10 Competitive Advantage Analysis
When a company succeeds in creating more value for customers than its competitors, that company is
said to enjoy competitive advantage in an industry. A competitive advantage exists when the firm is
able to deliver the same benefits as competitors but at a lower cost (cost advantage) or deliver benefits
that go over those of competing products (differentiation advantage). Therefore, a competitive
advantage allows the firm to create superior value for its customers and profits for itself.

Watergate Scandal
It was suggested that the President had tried to repair the damages that were caused the Watergate
scandal in the first article. From a speech President Nixon had given, it showed that there were a lot
things that still needed to be done regarding the scandal. The article stated that the officials under the
Watergate scandal were cheating, lying and engaging in illegal activities while in high positions of the
government.
The people believed that the president did not stand up to the crisis and that he had only done the bare
requirements for the situation at hand. The people stongly believed that President Nixon should have

The scandal forced changes to the politicians that hold office by making renovations in the statehouse
in the way that elections are ran and politicians run their office. The crisis ended with President Nixon
being impeached and a scandal that will forever be remember in American history. Reforms were done
due to the pressure of the scandal. Because of the scandal, the people demand more honesty from their
constintuants. The people also require limits on the amount of money politicians can spend.
The events change the general view on how the press covered politicians. From that point, the press
was able to include the internal personal life of politician reviling what they had otherwise hidden
from the public. It was as a result of pressure from the Chicago Tribune s editorial coverage that
showed the failures and neglects from the President in his handling of the Watergate crisis that
ultimately led to his resignation.
In a time of social media and smartphones, coverage of the Watergate scandal could have been

Treasury Bonds And The National Debt
Daniel Hysinger
US Treasury Bonds and the National Debt
The U.S. Treasury bond is a low interest way for the government to borrow money. The bond, along
with Treasury notes and bills, form the Securities which the Federal government borrows from lenders
for a set amount of time. Issued by the Department of the Public Debt, a subset of the US Treasury,
they are usually issued in 30 year maturities which pay interest twice yearly. Because the debt
obligation is backed by the tax generating, money printing, and understandably trusted government of
the United States, bonds are generally considered to be a safe or virtually no risk investment. Thanks
to this low risk attribute however, bonds are regarded as very low yield security, which is exactly why
it is a good instrument for the United States government to employ, as long as it can turn a relatively
decent profit on the initial investment. According to the September 30th, 2014 report of Monthly
Statement of the Public Debt of the United States, the amount of Treasury Bonds outstanding totaled
$8,167,759 million, I ll call it roughly $8.2 trillion. This number composes the majority of the
combined $12.7 trillion of US Treasury securities outstanding. These securities outstanding are also
known as the national debt. The numbers listed above, and throughout this paper will disregard debt
being owed to intra governmental holdings of the US, as bonds make up a minuscule (in comparison,
only $7.6 million) fraction of what they

Causes Of War Of 1812
On July 18, 1812, the United States declared war on Britain which resulted in the beginning of The
War of 1812. The War of 1812 was a military conflict between the United States and Great Britain.
The war lasted from 1812 to 1814. The War started when the colony of Great Britain and Canada, was
invaded by the Americans. The war was fought in Upper Canada, Lower Canada, on the Great Lakes,
the Atlantic, and in the United States. The War of 1812 was a big dispute between the United States
and the British Empire. The British limited the American trade system because they were afraid it
would be damaging to their war with France. They also wanted to arrange for an Indian state in the
Midwest. They wanted to do this to maintain their influence in the region. That s why 10,000 Native
Americans fought for the British in the war of 1812. Because Canada was a British colony at this time,
Canadians were considered as British allies. Americans just wanted to prove their independence from
the British Empire once and for all.
As you can see there were multiple causes of the War of 1812. One main cause was because Great
Britain had full power over most of Canada and Americans wanted them to leave so they could expand
the United States. Another cause would be because the trade ban by Britain and France proceeded in
the capturing of American ships. Lastly, because, Great Britain had begun to stop American ships and
forced the people on the ships to join the British Navy. The United

Creams are known to be divided into a few definition based on its function. One of the definition are
describing a thick white or pale yellow fatty liquid that usually rises on the top of the milk if we left
the milk undisturbed for a long time. Besides that it is also defined as a very thick liquid or soft
substance that is rubbed into the skin to make it softer or as a medicament for the skin (Merriam

different purposes and function. It is their specific ingredients that differs the creams available in the
industry. The basic formulation of the cream is water, oil and emulsifying agent. Cream which are
being formulated usually comprise of separating and non separating cream. Separating creams are
creams which will separate into oils and water when left for a certain time meanwhile the non
separating creams will ensure the formulation stays together in place. All these factors are the function
of adding emulsifying agents. They are responsible in making the cream that will combine them
together completely or for a certain period of time. Therefore a stable emulsion is the main key in
making a good lotion (DIY Cosmetics). Some of the creams available in the market are cosmetic

Essay on Integral Philosophy of Education
Integral Philosophy of Education
ABSTRACT: Education, an action, is a process, a development of the imperfect human being
intentionally directed at achieving the ideal of human plenitude in the best possible manner. This is a
description of the educational process based on the human being who travels toward plenitude, a point
of arrival; the human being who achieves his or her own perfection in the best possible manner; and a
method: intentional guidance towards plenitude in the harmonious formation of humanity. It is not

It is a method: intentionally guiding a human being towards the plenitude of the harmonious formation
of man. Personalized education does not exclude that which is essential common and equal in all
human beings; instead, it invigorates and justifies the individual himself or his individual personality.
Body and soul are susceptible to acquiring perfection and beauty, as Plato wished. This perfection
assumes there is a natural, progressive and systematic development of all of man s superior abilities.
Education is about preparing us for an integral life and for that which comes after our worldly
existence. For that reason, the organization of habits capable of adapting individuals to their physical
and social environment are so important. It would, however, be an error to limit us, as pragmatists do,
to the organization of habits and the adaptation of individuals to their circumstances. The formation of
men: as multi dimensional and harmonious human beings and not just as specialists is fundamental. In
this sense, education is the intentional perfection of uniquely human powers through systematic
activities exercised by teachers with learners.
The individual who receives education is an imperfect person capable of perfection. A person becomes
educated because he is able to be educated; because his ability to acquire education

Second Paper #4 (Democracy)
A Proposition To Abolish Democracy
In the modern west, democracy is generally conceived as the most free regime. Democracy is uniquely
characterized by majority rule. This gives its citizens the privilege to vote, overturn, and motion, with
the purpose of best representing the desires of the population. Not only do societies strive for
democracy to gain political freedom, but also personal freedom. Traditionally, we equate government
intervention and regulation with harsh restrictions that devitalize our personal freedom, however,
according to Socrates; regulation is necessary in order to experience genuine freedom . In the
Republic, Socrates discusses his tripartite regime in which promotes optimal justice and happiness for
its citizens. However, if we fully accept Socrates republic, this does not necessarily mean we have to
reject democracy entirely. This idea will be furthered explored throughout the entirety of this essay.
While Socrates describes democracy as the fairest regime, he refutes this claim by exposing the
disastrous effect lack of structure has in a democracy, producing only spurious pleasures and,
therefore, failing to achieve Socrates s justice, (demonstrated in his republic) which produces genuine
pleasures that greatly benefit the individual and the city.
Socrates uses a democratic society as a foundation to build his republic. Socrates says,

The Causes Of Gas Exchange

Gas exchange
Gas Exchange
Leslie A. Rouse
El Centro College
Gas Exchange
Gas exchange is defined as the process by which oxygen is transported to cells and carbon dioxide is
transported from cells (Giddens, 2013, p.161). Gas exchange in the human body occurs in the lungs
and as the primary function of the respiratory system, it exchanges two gases, oxygen and carbon
dioxide. The process of gas exchange happens as we breathe through ventilation, transport and
perfusion. As you inhale oxygen, the oxygen travels deep into the lungs until it reaches the alveoli.
Here in the alveoli oxygen and carbon dioxide diffuse across the alveolar capillary membrane. Oxygen
is able to enter into the blood while carbon dioxide is leaving the blood as waste to be exhaled from
the lungs and out of the body. This oxygenated blood is then transported throughout the body. All cells
depend on a consistent supply of oxygen and removal of waste in order to survive. A reduction or lack
of oxygen and/or buildup of waste leads to demise. For this reason, gas exchange is critical. Gas
exchange is compromised when there is impairment of ventilation, altered transport of oxygen, or
inadequate perfusion. Impaired ventilation may occur in conditions such as inadequate muscle or
nerve function to move air into the lungs, such as cervical spinal cord injury; narrowed airways from
bronchoconstriction like in asthma, or from obstruction like in chronic bronchitis; poor gas diffusion

Quentin Tarantino s Pulp Fiction Essay
In Quentin Tarantino s Pulp Fiction Bruce Willis s character, Butch Coolidge, attempts to follow a
Kantian form of duty to moral law as established to him in his upbringing. However, as his upbringing
and moral foundation are poorly developed, he is unable to follow a common societal norm of
morality until he is met by the unchecked form of hedonism.
Kant s first version of the Categorical Imperative: Act only according to that maxim whereby you can,
at the same time, will that it should become a universal law (Immanuel) This is Kant s absolute moral
law. It is often cited as the golden rule as well. Per Kant, one has an obligation to act on this axiom,
and if one does they are morally correct. However, Kant also defined another form of the Categorical
Imperative referred to as the Humanity Formula: Act in such a way that you treat humanity, whether in
your own person or in the person of another, always at the same time as an end and never simply as a
means. (Immanuel) This second formulation does more to specifically define what Kant saw as
universal law. A human is never to be used only as tools (means), and in fact, should be respected
equally for their own motives. (Kerstein) A human as defined by Kant comes to humanity . That is to
say, the traits that make us intrinsically human, such as a free will. (Johnson and Cureton)
It is in the separation between these two that Butch Coolidge exists in. He treats others according to
how he thinks the world will treat him.

of eighteen years old, leadership was surrendered to him by Clement, the first Christian scholar
(Shelley 83). Just as Clement, Origen traced man s thirst for knowledge to the work of God. The
desire to bring all truth into God s plan of salvation provided by Christ was Origen s ultimate aim.
While under his bishop, Demetrius, he was invited to Athens. While traveling to Athens, he passed
through Caesarea, where he accepted ordination to the ministry. After finding out about Origen s
ordination, Demetrius led in a public condemnation of Origen. As a result, he made Caesarea his

For instance, he addressed a wide range of subjects for Christians and against pagans and he also
wrote many entries based on the Old Testament entitled the Hexapla (Shelley 85). As stated in the text,
Origen believed that if Christianity were to succeed in shaping civilization, it must justify itself to the
intellect as well as to the heart of mankind. In comparison, he stated if we see some admirable work of
human art, we are at once eager to investigate the nature, the manner, the end of its production; and
the contemplation of the works of God stir us with an incomparably greater longing to learn the
principles, the method, the purpose of creation. This desire, this passion, has without doubt been
implanted in us by God. And as the eye seeks light, as our body craves food, so our mind is impressed
with the natural desire to know the truth of God and the causes of what we observe (Shelley

Research Paper On Charles Bukowski
Charles Bukowski grew up in the era of the Great Depression where money was scarce for many
average American families. His father did not have a stable job, and was thus deprived of his
masculinity. To revive this lost virility, Bukowski was physically and mentally abused by his father for
much of his childhood, and when he started to face normal teenage struggles, such as acne, he began
to question whether he was worthy of being loved, or worthy of anything at all. These emotions led
him to scribe passionate novels detailing his experiences while growing up. Because of his difficult
childhood, the tone in his novels is typically cynical and pessimistic. This is common of Postmodern
Cynicism books in which Bukowski s novels play a role. The ... Show more content on

Ham on Rye is interesting because it also portrays various aspects of Charles Bukowski s adolescent
life. Bukowski, as well as Chinaski, had to endure an excessive amount of misfortune in his
childhood. They both faced terrible bouts of physical abuse and acne that provoked a realistic message
about life and society. That is: though society may shape one a certain way, it is necessary to know
when to veer off that path to avoid becoming one of those who simply conform. When Chinaski first
started getting abused, his father punished Henry by forcing him to mow the lawn with complete and
utter precision. As Henry played street football with boys at his school, Henry s father looked angry
[so that Henry] could almost feel his anger. He was six feet two and [...] he looked to be all ears,
mouth and nose angry. I couldn t look in his eyes, (Ham on Rye 66). One can readily see the
confidence that Henry lost, especially because he was unable to look in his [father s] eyes, (Ham on
Rye 66). At a young age, Henry experienced hardships that not even adults should have to live
through, such as being whipped with a razor strop for the most petty offenses. Henry was forced to
grow up faster than those around him and learn that, the only time most people think about injustice is
when it happens to them, (Ham on Rye 89). It is important that Henry realized that injustice was in
fact being done, because this is how his moral code developed. When he realized he was suffering, he
learned that society is not

When the crew arrives at the finisher barn two things are important: staying aware of what is going on
and clear communication.
Before guiding the chute to the stoop, know all of the proper hand signals. Uniform communication
reduces risk for injury or mistakes
It is important that the edge of the chute lines up with the stoop to prevent a gap.
When removing the chute from the hitch, it is important not to quickly let go of the chute and allow it

It is beneficial to equalize the temperature between the outside and inside. By adjusting the curtains it
prevents animals from balking due to the drastic change in temperature once they approach the
threshold.
Remember: it is the Crew Leader s responsibility to make sure that the barn s curtains are returned to
the automatic setting before leaving the barn.
Before moving any animals, make sure that all things on this check list have been completed.
Before beginning to back the trailer to the load out chute, make sure that all crew members and people
are clear of the path between trailer and chute.
Proper hand signals and paying attention are key to backing the market trailer to the chute.
Stop the market driver about four feet from the chute so you can raise and secure the trailer s roll gate.
Secure the roll gate s rope to the tie off on the trailer, and continue the back up process.
Allow a few inches between the trailer and chute so the chute sits down into the trailer s opening once
you have lowered the chute down.
Secure the chute extensions on both sides to the market trailer. The doors of the chute must extend into
the inside of the trailer.
Spread bags of wood chips evenly on the chute and both decks of the market trailer. It blends the
surfaces of the chute and trailer together so the hog doesn t recognize the transition.

Nonverbal Communication In Everybody Loves Raymond
The television show Everybody Loves Raymond is about the comical and typical everyday life of Ray
Romano. Ray is a successful sports writer with interests of an average American male in sports, golf,

overprotective mother Marie and demanding father Frank along with his older brother Robert who is
envious of Ray all live across the street. As a result, Ray s seemingly normal life is always full of

Behavioral flexibility involves knowing and using a number of different behaviors to achieve
appropriate communication (O Hair et al. 16). At the same time, Ray returns home early after realizing
how silly their fight over the suitcase is. Ray and Debra engage in using mature behavior and
communication to handle the situation, rather than using nonverbal and negative communication, to
end their argument. Consequently, since Ray and Debra are husband and wife, they begin to show
their affiliation to one another. Affiliation can be described as the feeling of connectedness you have
with others (O Hair et al. 6). Furthermore, Ray and Debra use haptics or the use of touch to send
messages when they nonverbally interact by hugging each other (O Hair et al. 111). More specifically,
this is also an example of love intimacy touch which shows example include embracing and caressing
(O Hair et al. 112). Love intimacy touch is generally used by two very close romantical partners or
family members to express affection. In this case, because Ray and Debra reconcile with one another,
their relationship grows stronger and their affections toward one another grow. Therefore, Ray and
Debra go from arguing about the suitcase to using the symbol to as means to grow closer to one
another and even leads to Ray suggesting that they should have coming home action

John Locke Law Of Nature
The Law of Nature is the universal concept at which most philosophers would refer to when
describing the natural state of society and humans (Joseph, 1999). The meaning of the Law of Nature
also differs from one philosopher to another. Here, Hobbes describes it as something humans of
rational thinking would try to escape even if it means subjecting oneself to absolute authority
(Baumgold, 2010).
The Social Contract has taken up a new meaning under Hobbes. Social Contract has become the
means by which Man, defined to be self interested and reasonable, escapes the Law of Nature which
was described to be intolerable. That Man, is willing to give up his freedom just to lead a civil life
which is more conducive for his self interests. Locke
John Locke is one of the most influential thinkers of his time. His work, Two Treatises on
Government, inspired the founding fathers of the United States of America and contradicted the
prevalent ideas in England (Dienstag, 1996). For Locke, the Law of Nature, contrary to Hobbes, is a
state of perfect and complete liberty to lead one s life as best as one sees it fit; that it should be free
from any kind of interference from others (Dienstag, 1996). This is under the belief of Locke that
everyone is equally created by God and therefore has equal freedom to pursue his personal interests.
Although, this does not mean that anyone is free to harm and trespass one another. This is for the same
reason that only God has the right to take away

College is not very much for everyone and doesn t have to be. College is not worth it because parents
tend to put too much pressure on their children, it is very costly, and tends to takes up a lot of our time.
One reason why college is not worth it is because of the amount of money you would have to pay. You
have to save thousands of dollars in order to get into a good college. Then you still have to pay for
books and resources, which you will owe money and go into college debt. 30% of college graduates
felt that college did not prepare them well for employment, specifically in terms of technical and
quantitative reasoning calls. This could lead you to having to owe an expensive amount of money later

The Issue Of Humanitarian Intervention
The current consensus in the international community understands that nations, like individuals, have
basic rights, namely, the right to territorial integrity and political sovereignty. When another nation
violates these rights, it is considered an act of aggression. However, there certainly are situations
where a violation of territorieal integrity or political sovereignty is justified, namely humanitarian
intervention, thus use of military force against another state when the chief publicly declared aim of
that military action is ending human rights violations being perpetrated by the state against which it is
directed. The issue of humanitarian intervention has been at the forefront of international relations
discourse, particularly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In On Liberty, John Stuart Mill argues that the only legitimate basis for limiting the individual s
liberty, in the liberal democratic state, is to prevent harm to others. In his words, The only purpose for
which power can be rightfully exercised over any member of a civilized community, against his will,
is to prevent harm to others. His own good, either physical or moral, is not a sufficient warrant. This is
now considered the Harm Principle. The Legalist Paradigm seeks to extend this liberty to the states
themselves as well. It is a modern, secular and legalistic interpretation of Classical Just War Theory,
which reflects conventions of law and order based upon the analogy of states to individuals. It took
root in the writings of the Catholic theologian Francisco de Vitoria and the Dutch jurist, Hugo Grotius
and also from the Treaty of Westphalia at the end of the Thirty Years War in the 17th Century, which
led to the formal and legal recognition of independent, sovereign nation states and their rights to
territorial integrity and political sovereignty. The Legalist Paradigm consists of six claims. The first
two claims outline the existence of an international society of independent nation states that have
agreed upon the rights of its members to territorial integrity and political sovereignty. Thus, the third
claims defines aggression as the use of force to threaten the rights of another state.

Policy Recommendations For Indonesia s Environmental Policies
VI. Policy Recommendations
While there is no blanket policy the Indonesian government can pass to magically stop deforestation,
there are a number of steps they can take to slow and hopefully eventually stop it. All of these steps
should address primarily the root cause of the problem, but also the proximate causes. First and
foremost, the government officials responsible for Indonesia s environmental policies should take the
time to become more educated on the impact of environmental problems in their region. They should
visit the affected areas, speak with the indigenous people, and find a way to understand that
deforestation is not just a means for generating a profit, but rather a means for depriving local people,
as well as wildlife, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Republic of Indonesia has approximately 8 Mha of grasslands that can produce palm oil with little
to no biodiversity loss. As mentioned above, oil palm companies harvest in the forest instead of on the
grasslands because they sell the timber they clear cut to hold them over until the oil palm trees begin
to grow. This, however, can be fixed if the government provided subsidies for companies to develop
on the grasslands instead of in the forest. These subsidies could hold the oil palm producers over until
it was time for them to harvest the oil palm trees. Providing this incentive tackles both misallocation
and the government s mismanagement of the forest. Instead of allowing companies to produce palm
oil in the forests, they would be encouraging them to switch to grasslands by altering the price. The
government should not stop there. They should also make it a lot more difficult, if not impossible, for
companies to log and produce palm oil in the areas that they specifically labeled as conservation and
protection forest, as well as require sustainable development of the production and conversion forests.
To do this, the government would need a lot more manpower for enforcement, something they
currently do not have. While, it would be nice if they could somehow generate the money to hire
dozens more people, there are potentially other options. The government could allow for indigenous
people to have a larger role in the saving of their

Grecian Influence
The Romans took from the Greeks the three orders of architecture, Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian, based
on different forms of column and the capital which surmounted it, and added a hybrid of their own,
known as Composite. (The Romans, n.d.) It is not a secret the Romans admired and took on Greek
culture, but the field of architecture the Romans created their own style. That is not to say the
Composite is free of Grecian influence as the influence from the Corinthian style is doubtless present
in the columns. Nevertheless, creating the Composite does not diminish the magnificence in the Greek
s three renown architecture styles. In any case, Grecian Parthenon and Roman Pantheon have proofs
of culture s influence on art. Pericles ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Indeed, even the name the Pantheon refers to many or 12 gods, undoubtedly Grecian in origin. The
service of foreign gods did not end with Greece, and through propaganda of gods like Serapis, a half

undeniable. While many believe the Greeks and the Romans to serve the same gods, the Romans were
mixing and making them their own proving they only could construct the Pantheon in the same
manner. As I expressed before, the Grecian culture influenced the Romans, and in turn the Romans
made something completely their own, the Composite. The Pantheon shows its order through the
Composite s classic Corinthian columns, and Roman circular floor plan. The Pantheon may have an
unusual floor scheme as a rectangle and circle merge together to create it, but this shape facilitates the
element of symmetry. The Pantheon took very balanced, and the dome and triangular roof produce the
element of variation. Globally, professionals consider the Pantheon one of the best preserved buildings
of all time. While there are many factors, the name of many gods protected the Pantheon throughout
the years as a church occupied

Augustine Confessions Analysis
In Confessions by Saint Augustine he comes to the realization that friendships are fundamental to a
human s life because they bring people happiness. As Augustine reflects back on his own life he
questions his friendships and how the role of happiness plays over his lifetime. Another ancient Greek
philosophical term for happiness is Eudaimonia. The most accurate translation of this word is human
flourishing which is imperative to creating a whole person and directly applies to Augustine s life.
Friends give him guidance which Augustine needs because he isolated himself from his community.

even though his mother Monica pushes for him to be religious. His lack of religious affiliation is
because he is inexperienced and does not have the knowledge to think for himself. His rebellious
attitude and intolerance for religion can be directly linked to whom Augustine associates himself with.
The association of these friends served Augustine s satisfaction for rebellion. Augustine was lead
down a narrow minded and secular view of the world and his friends brought out the worst in him.
When Augustine started hanging out with these friends he knew that they did not share different
morals and beliefs but the more he hung out with them he stopped acknowledging this and accepted
their lesser morals as if they were his own. Augustine enjoyed the company of these friends and
remained close with them. During this time Augustine s friends did not bring him happiness because
peer pressure only ushered misery. This misery lead Augustine to start acknowledging that he was not
satisfied with his life and he began his journey to happiness and salvation. Once Augustine and his
friends stole pears from a neighbor s pear tree. The happiness and satisfaction Augustine felt was not

Wordsworthian terrain that details his reconciliation between past and present and implications of the

His desire to mend his ways was brought about Through no disturbance of my soul,/ Or strong
compunction in me wroughtŠ/ But in the quietness of thought (33 4, 36). The poem s devotion to an
abstract concept exemplifies the willful internality of the poet s decision. This internality leads the
poet to supplicate for thy control, an act that shifts the poem into the religious territory of reverence.
Indeed, Wordsworth subtly raises his travel conceit from the earth to the heavens. In the quietness of
thought, a time that is often reserved for prayer, he decides that Me this unchartered freedom tires;/ I
feel the weight of chance desires (37 8). The unmapped liberalism of random urges weighs him down
and bounds him to the earth; the austere and personified guardian of duty, on the other hand, steps
lightly between the earth and the sky: Nor know we anything so fair/ As is the smile upon thy face;/
Flowers laugh before thee on their beds/ And fragrance in thy footing treads;/ Thou dost preserve the
stars from wrong;/ And the most ancient heavens, through Thee, are fresh and strong (43 8). The
craving for a repose that ever is the same, a constancy that may, in the future, hold for him a blissful
course, is made salient in the comparison to stars, long regarded as shapers of destiny (40, 21). The
repose here means sleep, whereas in the fourth stanza reposed my trust means

In my opening statement I mentioned that I would call three witnesses to show the swindler s guilt.
Each witness explained this fact without a shadow of a doubt: 1) The emperor did not have clothes on.
So try to explain one thing, where were the clothes? They were most definitely not on him and nobody
saw him wearing his magnificent clothes. This Is why the swindler deserves to be charged with fraud.
They did not hold there end of the bargain. There is nothing the defending side can say because he did
not have clothes on. Yes the officials lied but truth be told, wouldn t you? That is the only thing they
can prove, which does not devalue the fact that they committed a crime of fraud. To determine guilt in
this case, the members of this jury only have to ask themselves two questions: 1) Did my client pay
for and provide materials for clothing to be made and 2) Did the swindler produce the clothing. Not
only did the swindler manipulate, lie, and humiliate my client but I believe the swindler should be
rightly and justly charged for the crime of fraud against my client. I appreciate the time given,

  • 2. Dragon Myths And Legends Essay Legends tell of gigantic lizard like creatures flying through the sky and being slew by humans. Beowulf, and Saint George killed dragons in their lives. Dragons lived in places that only crazy people would ever trek. Dragons are very interesting creatures because they are in legends, heros slew them in epic battles, and may have hidden themselves in places no mortal man can travel. Beowulf died by the hand of a dragon. Grendel, a monster who lives at the bottom of a nearby mere, is provoked by the singing and celebrating of Hrothgar s followers. He appears at the hall late one night and kills thirty of the warriors in their sleep. For the next twelve years, the fear of Grendel s fury casts a shadow over the lives of the Danes. The location of the castle meant that it could watch over the River Thames and Windsor Forest (a royal hunting ground), as the order s spiritual headquarters and rededicating the chapel there (formerly devoted to St Edward) in the saint s honour. As is widely appreciated, St George owes much of his popularity in England to the enthusiasm of Edward III (1312 77). Saint George had killed multiple dragons. Dragons are very interesting creatures because they are in legends, heros slew them in epic battles, and may have hidden themselves in places no mortal man can travel. • 3. Max Weber And Modern Capitalism Max Weber (1864 1920), like the sociologists before him, was interested in capitalism. However, he was interested in what he dubbed Modern Capitalism and how it came to be. Instead of just looking at the effects of this theory, he contemplated on what allowed it to take place. To an extent, he agrees with Karl Marx on modern capitalism ability to form, but he takes it a step beyond economic conditions and adds the element of social/ religious conditions. Weber developed what he called the spirit of capitalism, which looks at modern capitalism and shows what makes modern capitalism different from speculative, commercial, adventurous, and political capitalism. He noted that in this type of capitalism people have a mentality that they need to make as much money as possible, which requires a particular frame of mind that ... strives systematically and rationally in a calling for legitimate profit (Weber, 2009, The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism, Pg. 80). Thus the mentality went from working to live to live to work. It was this new ethic that separated modern capitalism from the rest. When looking at the features that allowed capitalism to come to fruition, Weber noted that a cause and effect relationship needs to occur. Weber, like Marx considered objective factors that contributed to the rise of capitalism. • 4. The Myth Of Moral Systems Essay Throughout the centuries, philosophers, theologians, and many others have grappled with the question of the source of morality. It is difficult for one to argue that objective ethical and moral principles exist, even though some will attempt to do this, but it is a debated topic when the origins of these principles, if they even truly exist, come into question. Simply put, most people argue that the origins of moral systems stem from God, that these things are based in human evolution and constructs, or that they are born from something separate of them both. I argue that the principles of ethics and morals do exist and are implanted in humans by God in the form of intrinsic human dignity; the purpose of these systems are so that God can draw humans into a closer relation with Him. This statement contrasts the possible views of others that the origin of these principles is natural, evolutionary, or social constructs that have been instated by humans or something other than God. To unpack the origins and meanings of moral systems, one must first define what morality is. Finding a definition of morality is more difficult than it may seem. Some people would define morality as a code of conduct for living based out of social, religious, or other personal contracts; however, the concept is broader than that definition implies: ... some might regard it as definitional of morality, in the normative sense, that it governs only interpersonal interactions. Others, however, might ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Comparing Comedy And Comedy Martin Esslin s definition of drama says that it incorporates a well structured, economical and unpredictable plot with no boundaries that entertains the audience and allows room for their own interpretation. This is a basic definition. A vast variety of genres fall under the term drama. Two forms that are most frequently talked about and compared are comedy and tragedy. Comedy and tragedy shed light on differences in theatrical storytelling through their contrasting styles and methods of presenting pieces of theatre. If genres of theatre were put on a spectrum, comedy would fall on one end while tragedy would on the opposite. Comedy and tragedy are widely different. They follow various contrasting dramatic constructs invoking the thoughts and emotions pertaining to their genre. A comedy is a piece of theatre that evokes a feel good response from the audience and allows them to gently discover an underlying truth about human nature. It breaks expectations and increases a level of awareness invoking the involuntary biological response of laughter. Laughter places the audience in a vulnerable state. Laughter is gasping for air with no way of stopping until the comedic effect is no longer amusing. For this vulnerable state to take into effect, the audience must be willing to go along with the joke that the story is attempting to convey. Once the trust has been built, and if this it is a satisfactory production, the successful sound of laughter will commence. Laughter in a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Dubble Campaign: Write an evaluation of how effective you think the Dubble campaign has been so far and how your advertising has aimed to reach Dubble s target audience effectively. In October 2000, Comic Relief and The Day Chocolate Company teamed up with Kuapa Kokoo, a co operative of 35,000 Ghanaian cocoa farmers, to launch Dubble, a unique chocolate bar aimed at 10 16 year olds. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Day Chocolate Company carried out research on the target audience. They found out that the 10 16 age range was a tribal and friendship orientated age group, which knew global issues, trusted the ideas behind comic relief and understood the concept of fairness, but were unfamiliar with Fair Trading. They chose chocolate based on brand appeal and taste. Therefore, by exploiting links with comic relief and Fair Trade the target audience would see Dubble as a popular and trusted product which aimed to increase fairness in the world. From my market research, I wanted to find out how popular the product was, and whether any improvements could be introduced. I needed to ascertain key forms of entertainment used by 10 16 year olds so that the selling and advertising of Dubble could be more focussed. I needed to find out the proportion of average pocket money spent on chocolates, so that Dubble could be priced accordingly, and to see if people had heard about fair trading and if not, as to how to best convey the Fair Trade message. Most teenagers shopped at Safeway s, visited the cinema often, used a varied range of media and were fairly familiar with the new product. Most spent about a £1/week on chocolate. My findings also demonstrated that Dubble is best advertised on T.V, as this was the main form of media used which, influenced teenagers when it came to buying products. (Cheeseman 79) The Supremacy clause of the U.S. Constitution establishes that the federal constitution, and federal law generally, take precedence over state laws, and even state constitutions. While in this particular matter, the statutes of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) would generally trump the state level regulations of organizations such as the California Air Resources Board (CARB), however the EPA has also mandated that The setting of these pollutant standards was coupled with directing the states to develop state implementation plans (SIPs), applicable to appropriate industrial sources in the state, in order to achieve these standards. Often times these more stringent standards are put in place by the EPA as federal standards after research and testing has been accomplished by those states. An example of this is the required use of Catalytic converters on pollution controlled motor vehicles in 1974 in California, two years later in 1976, the EPA required the use of Catalytic converters on all pollution controlled motor vehicles nationwide. Due to the fact that South Coast s standards are more stringent than federal standards, the association would find that the Supreme Court is more likely to uphold the decisions of the lower courts; at that time, it is then set at the highest level court and future court cases will have to look at that precedent as the standard. If the South Coast standard were set at a lower level than the federal standard established by the EPA, then this is a situation where the Supremacy clause of the Constitution would come into play in order to mandate compliance with federal law. • 11. Treasury Bonds And The National Debt Daniel Hysinger US Treasury Bonds and the National Debt The U.S. Treasury bond is a low interest way for the government to borrow money. The bond, along with Treasury notes and bills, form the Securities which the Federal government borrows from lenders for a set amount of time. Issued by the Department of the Public Debt, a subset of the US Treasury, they are usually issued in 30 year maturities which pay interest twice yearly. Because the debt obligation is backed by the tax generating, money printing, and understandably trusted government of the United States, bonds are generally considered to be a safe or virtually no risk investment. Thanks to this low risk attribute however, bonds are regarded as very low yield security, which is exactly why it is a good instrument for the United States government to employ, as long as it can turn a relatively decent profit on the initial investment. According to the September 30th, 2014 report of Monthly Statement of the Public Debt of the United States, the amount of Treasury Bonds outstanding totaled $8,167,759 million, I ll call it roughly $8.2 trillion. This number composes the majority of the combined $12.7 trillion of US Treasury securities outstanding. These securities outstanding are also known as the national debt. The War started when the colony of Great Britain and Canada, was invaded by the Americans. The war was fought in Upper Canada, Lower Canada, on the Great Lakes, the Atlantic, and in the United States. The War of 1812 was a big dispute between the United States and the British Empire. The British limited the American trade system because they were afraid it would be damaging to their war with France. They also wanted to arrange for an Indian state in the Midwest. They wanted to do this to maintain their influence in the region. That s why 10,000 Native Americans fought for the British in the war of 1812. It is a method: intentionally guiding a human being towards the plenitude of the harmonious formation of man. Personalized education does not exclude that which is essential common and equal in all human beings; instead, it invigorates and justifies the individual himself or his individual personality. Body and soul are susceptible to acquiring perfection and beauty, as Plato wished. This perfection assumes there is a natural, progressive and systematic development of all of man s superior abilities. Education is about preparing us for an integral life and for that which comes after our worldly existence. For that reason, the organization of habits capable of adapting individuals to their physical and social environment are so important. It would, however, be an error to limit us, as pragmatists do, to the organization of habits and the adaptation of individuals to their circumstances. The formation of men: as multi dimensional and harmonious human beings and not just as specialists is fundamental. In this sense, education is the intentional perfection of uniquely human powers through systematic activities exercised by teachers with learners. The individual who receives education is an imperfect person capable of perfection. A person becomes educated because he is able to be educated; because his ability to acquire education ... Social And Political Thought Sriya Siems Classics of Social and Political Thought Mr. Ellison SOSC 15100 Second Paper #4 (Democracy) A Proposition To Abolish Democracy In the modern west, democracy is generally conceived as the most free regime. Democracy is uniquely characterized by majority rule. This gives its citizens the privilege to vote, overturn, and motion, with the purpose of best representing the desires of the population. Not only do societies strive for democracy to gain political freedom, but also personal freedom. Traditionally, we equate government intervention and regulation with harsh restrictions that devitalize our personal freedom, however, according to Socrates; regulation is necessary in order to experience genuine freedom . In the Republic, Socrates discusses his tripartite regime in which promotes optimal justice and happiness for its citizens. However, if we fully accept Socrates republic, this does not necessarily mean we have to reject democracy entirely. This idea will be furthered explored throughout the entirety of this essay. While Socrates describes democracy as the fairest regime, he refutes this claim by exposing the disastrous effect lack of structure has in a democracy, producing only spurious pleasures and, therefore, failing to achieve Socrates s justice, (demonstrated in his republic) which produces genuine pleasures that greatly benefit the individual and the city. • 19. The Causes Of Gas Exchange 1 GAS EXCHANGE 4 Gas exchange Gas Exchange Leslie A. Rouse El Centro College Gas Exchange Gas exchange is defined as the process by which oxygen is transported to cells and carbon dioxide is transported from cells (Giddens, 2013, p.161). Gas exchange in the human body occurs in the lungs and as the primary function of the respiratory system, it exchanges two gases, oxygen and carbon dioxide. The process of gas exchange happens as we breathe through ventilation, transport and perfusion. As you inhale oxygen, the oxygen travels deep into the lungs until it reaches the alveoli. Here in the alveoli oxygen and carbon dioxide diffuse across the alveolar capillary membrane. Oxygen is able to enter into the blood while carbon dioxide is leaving the blood as waste to be exhaled from the lungs and out of the body. This oxygenated blood is then transported throughout the body. All cells depend on a consistent supply of oxygen and removal of waste in order to survive. A reduction or lack of oxygen and/or buildup of waste leads to demise. For this reason, gas exchange is critical. Gas exchange is compromised when there is impairment of ventilation, altered transport of oxygen, or inadequate perfusion. Impaired ventilation may occur in conditions such as inadequate muscle or nerve function to move air into the lungs, such as cervical spinal cord injury; narrowed airways from bronchoconstriction like in asthma, or from obstruction like in chronic bronchitis; poor gas diffusion in ... • 20. Quentin Tarantino s Pulp Fiction Essay In Quentin Tarantino s Pulp Fiction Bruce Willis s character, Butch Coolidge, attempts to follow a Kantian form of duty to moral law as established to him in his upbringing. However, as his upbringing and moral foundation are poorly developed, he is unable to follow a common societal norm of morality until he is met by the unchecked form of hedonism. Kant s first version of the Categorical Imperative: Act only according to that maxim whereby you can, at the same time, will that it should become a universal law (Immanuel) This is Kant s absolute moral law. It is often cited as the golden rule as well. Per Kant, one has an obligation to act on this axiom, and if one does they are morally correct. However, Kant also defined another form of the Categorical Imperative referred to as the Humanity Formula: Act in such a way that you treat humanity, whether in your own person or in the person of another, always at the same time as an end and never simply as a means. (Immanuel) This second formulation does more to specifically define what Kant saw as universal law. A human is never to be used only as tools (means), and in fact, should be respected equally for their own motives. (Kerstein) A human as defined by Kant comes to humanity . That is to say, the traits that make us intrinsically human, such as a free will. (Johnson and Cureton) It is in the separation between these two that Butch Coolidge exists in. • 30. John Locke Law Of Nature The Law of Nature is the universal concept at which most philosophers would refer to when describing the natural state of society and humans (Joseph, 1999). The meaning of the Law of Nature also differs from one philosopher to another. Here, Hobbes describes it as something humans of rational thinking would try to escape even if it means subjecting oneself to absolute authority (Baumgold, 2010). The Social Contract has taken up a new meaning under Hobbes. Social Contract has become the means by which Man, defined to be self interested and reasonable, escapes the Law of Nature which was described to be intolerable. That Man, is willing to give up his freedom just to lead a civil life which is more conducive for his self interests. Locke John Locke is one of the most influential thinkers of his time. His work, Two Treatises on Government, inspired the founding fathers of the United States of America and contradicted the prevalent ideas in England (Dienstag, 1996). For Locke, the Law of Nature, contrary to Hobbes, is a state of perfect and complete liberty to lead one s life as best as one sees it fit; that it should be free from any kind of interference from others (Dienstag, 1996). This is under the belief of Locke that everyone is equally created by God and therefore has equal freedom to pursue his personal interests. • 33. The Issue Of Humanitarian Intervention The current consensus in the international community understands that nations, like individuals, have basic rights, namely, the right to territorial integrity and political sovereignty. When another nation violates these rights, it is considered an act of aggression. However, there certainly are situations where a violation of territorieal integrity or political sovereignty is justified, namely humanitarian intervention, thus use of military force against another state when the chief publicly declared aim of that military action is ending human rights violations being perpetrated by the state against which it is directed. The issue of humanitarian intervention has been at the forefront of international relations discourse, particularly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In On Liberty, John Stuart Mill argues that the only legitimate basis for limiting the individual s liberty, in the liberal democratic state, is to prevent harm to others. In his words, The only purpose for which power can be rightfully exercised over any member of a civilized community, against his will, is to prevent harm to others. His own good, either physical or moral, is not a sufficient warrant. This is now considered the Harm Principle. The Legalist Paradigm seeks to extend this liberty to the states themselves as well. It is a modern, secular and legalistic interpretation of Classical Just War Theory, which reflects conventions of law and order based upon the analogy of states to individuals. It took root in the writings of the Catholic theologian Francisco de Vitoria and the Dutch jurist, Hugo Grotius and also from the Treaty of Westphalia at the end of the Thirty Years War in the 17th Century, which led to the formal and legal recognition of independent, sovereign nation states and their rights to territorial integrity and political sovereignty. The Legalist Paradigm consists of six claims. The first two claims outline the existence of an international society of independent nation states that have agreed upon the rights of its members to territorial integrity and political sovereignty. Thus, the third claims defines aggression as the use of force to threaten the rights of another state. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Policy Recommendations For Indonesia s Environmental Policies VI. Policy Recommendations While there is no blanket policy the Indonesian government can pass to magically stop deforestation, there are a number of steps they can take to slow and hopefully eventually stop it. All of these steps should address primarily the root cause of the problem, but also the proximate causes. First and foremost, the government officials responsible for Indonesia s environmental policies should take the time to become more educated on the impact of environmental problems in their region. They should visit the affected areas, speak with the indigenous people, and find a way to understand that deforestation is not just a means for generating a profit, but rather a means for depriving local people, as well as wildlife, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Republic of Indonesia has approximately 8 Mha of grasslands that can produce palm oil with little to no biodiversity loss. As mentioned above, oil palm companies harvest in the forest instead of on the grasslands because they sell the timber they clear cut to hold them over until the oil palm trees begin to grow. This, however, can be fixed if the government provided subsidies for companies to develop on the grasslands instead of in the forest. These subsidies could hold the oil palm producers over until it was time for them to harvest the oil palm trees. Providing this incentive tackles both misallocation and the government s mismanagement of the forest. Instead of allowing companies to produce palm oil in the forests, they would be encouraging them to switch to grasslands by altering the price. The government should not stop there. They should also make it a lot more difficult, if not impossible, for companies to log and produce palm oil in the areas that they specifically labeled as conservation and protection forest, as well as require sustainable development of the production and conversion forests. To do this, the government would need a lot more manpower for enforcement, something they currently do not have. While, it would be nice if they could somehow generate the money to hire dozens more people, there are potentially other options. The government could allow for indigenous people to have a larger role in the saving of their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Grecian Influence The Romans took from the Greeks the three orders of architecture, Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian, based on different forms of column and the capital which surmounted it, and added a hybrid of their own, known as Composite. (The Romans, n.d.) It is not a secret the Romans admired and took on Greek culture, but the field of architecture the Romans created their own style. That is not to say the Composite is free of Grecian influence as the influence from the Corinthian style is doubtless present in the columns. Nevertheless, creating the Composite does not diminish the magnificence in the Greek s three renown architecture styles. In any case, Grecian Parthenon and Roman Pantheon have proofs of culture s influence on art. Pericles ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Indeed, even the name the Pantheon refers to many or 12 gods, undoubtedly Grecian in origin. The service of foreign gods did not end with Greece, and through propaganda of gods like Serapis, a half Egyptian half Greco god, to even political means the necessity the Roman people had for religion is undeniable. While many believe the Greeks and the Romans to serve the same gods, the Romans were mixing and making them their own proving they only could construct the Pantheon in the same manner. As I expressed before, the Grecian culture influenced the Romans, and in turn the Romans made something completely their own, the Composite. The Pantheon shows its order through the Composite s classic Corinthian columns, and Roman circular floor plan. The Pantheon may have an unusual floor scheme as a rectangle and circle merge together to create it, but this shape facilitates the element of symmetry. The Pantheon took very balanced, and the dome and triangular roof produce the element of variation. Globally, professionals consider the Pantheon one of the best preserved buildings of all time. As Augustine reflects back on his own life he questions his friendships and how the role of happiness plays over his lifetime. Another ancient Greek philosophical term for happiness is Eudaimonia. The most accurate translation of this word is human flourishing which is imperative to creating a whole person and directly applies to Augustine s life. Specifically in adolescence Augustine s relationship with God is non existent and he is not religious even though his mother Monica pushes for him to be religious. His lack of religious affiliation is because he is inexperienced and does not have the knowledge to think for himself. His rebellious attitude and intolerance for religion can be directly linked to whom Augustine associates himself with. The association of these friends served Augustine s satisfaction for rebellion. Augustine was lead down a narrow minded and secular view of the world and his friends brought out the worst in him. When Augustine started hanging out with these friends he knew that they did not share different morals and beliefs but the more he hung out with them he stopped acknowledging this and accepted their lesser morals as if they were his own. Augustine enjoyed the company of these friends and remained close with them. During this time Augustine s friends did not bring him happiness because peer pressure only ushered misery. This misery lead Augustine to start acknowledging that he was not satisfied with his life and he began his journey to happiness and salvation. • 38. Comparing Wordsworth s Ode to Duty and Elegiac Stanzas Comparing Wordsworth s Ode to Duty and Elegiac Stanzas A past attitude is reverted to and revised in Wordsworth s Ode to Duty and Elegiac Stanzas. Employing geographic metaphors, both celestial and earth bound, the poems climb over rocky Wordsworthian terrain that details his reconciliation between past and present and implications of the future. Though vastly different stylistically‹ Ode to Duty utilizes an antiquated verse form and language, while Elegiac Stanzas is written in Wordsworth s beloved language of men ‹and in the internal willfulness on the poet s part to change versus reaction to external stimuli, the poems parallel in their desires for resolution of a disarrayed soul via the calming sublime power of either an ... His desire to mend his ways was brought about Through no disturbance of my soul,/ Or strong compunction in me wroughtŠ/ But in the quietness of thought (33 4, 36). The poem s devotion to an abstract concept exemplifies the willful internality of the poet s decision. This internality leads the poet to supplicate for thy control, an act that shifts the poem into the religious territory of reverence. Indeed, Wordsworth subtly raises his travel conceit from the earth to the heavens. In the quietness of thought, a time that is often reserved for prayer, he decides that Me this unchartered freedom tires;/ I feel the weight of chance desires (37 8). The unmapped liberalism of random urges weighs him down and bounds him to the earth; the austere and personified guardian of duty, on the other hand, steps lightly between the earth and the sky: Nor know we anything so fair/ As is the smile upon thy face;/ Flowers laugh before thee on their beds/ And fragrance in thy footing treads;/ Thou dost preserve the stars from wrong;/ And the most ancient heavens, through Thee, are fresh and strong (43 8). The craving for a repose that ever is the same, a constancy that may, in the future, hold for him a blissful course, is made salient in the comparison to stars, long regarded as shapers of destiny (40, 21). • 39. Formal Court Trial Opening Thank you, your honor. Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, my client, the emperor, was stripped of his pride. He was degraded in front of his empire. One afternoon in the town, my client was approached by a swindler who gave him an offer she knew he could not refuse. She offered to weave him the most beautiful outfit that could only be seen by people who were intelligent and fit for their positions. He then hired them, as anyone else would do, and paid her and gave her beautiful cloth that was never used for intended purpose . My client was concerned about where all the cloth was going. Lets remember one thing, one of my client s biggest reasons for purchasing this swindler was because she could supposably weave fabric that only could be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In my opening statement I mentioned that I would call three witnesses to show the swindler s guilt. Each witness explained this fact without a shadow of a doubt: 1) The emperor did not have clothes on. So try to explain one thing, where were the clothes? They were most definitely not on him and nobody saw him wearing his magnificent clothes. This Is why the swindler deserves to be charged with fraud. They did not hold there end of the bargain. There is nothing the defending side can say because he did not have clothes on. Yes the officials lied but truth be told, wouldn t you? That is the only thing they can prove, which does not devalue the fact that they committed a crime of fraud. To determine guilt in this case, the members of this jury only have to ask themselves two questions: 1) Did my client pay for and provide materials for clothing to be made and 2) Did the swindler produce the clothing. Not only did the swindler manipulate, lie, and humiliate my client but I believe the swindler should be rightly and justly charged for the crime of fraud against my client. I appreciate the time given, wisdom, and consideration of the facts of every member of this jury. Thank ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
