Alexis De Tocqueville Research Paper
Ch.10: May 12, 1831 Alexis De Tocqueville and Gustave de Beaumont arrived in New York.
Tocqueville s judgements in America were the wages are higher and the cost of living was lower than
in Europe. In his perspective, America was undifferentiated middle class society. The U.S rate of
population growth was high doubling every 22 years. In the west, five new states entered the Union in
1830s and 1840s. Population movement from farm to cities increased the growth in large cities that
made new towns in the Northeast and Northwest. The Growth of cities undermined the family as a
unit of economic production. Husbands were away from the house during work hours and the wife
took control of the home. However, in the lower class women had to work also.

Stereotypes In Lap Dance
In mainstream media and film, strippers are given a very narrow representation when they re even
included in a storyline at all: The women and men who make up the sex industry tend to be painted
with a broad brush, being portrayed as morally corrupt. It s implied that they either joined the industry
because of their negative traits, or that those traits were developed during their time working in it. This
harmful stereotype is pretty consistently perpetuated, and done so through both male and female
characters. The film being used here to provide a few examples of this stereotype is Lap Dance (Greg
Carter), a 2014 film about a woman who begins working as an exotic dancer to supplement her
income. When the main character Monica is first introduced in the film, she learns her father has
cancer. Soon after, the doctor informs Monica and her fiancé Kevin that insurance is no longer
covering his hospital stay. He them that the payment required for hospice care totals to fifteen
thousand dollars, which neither of them have. Monica is disheartened and takes up a job working at a
nail salon, where she runs into an old friend of hers who works as a dancer. The friend, whose name is
Tasha, tries to convince Monica to come dance with her at her club. At first, Monica insists she can t
do it. However, after the reality of the current money dilemma sets in, she decides she has nothing to
lose. When Monica begins dancing, she s still very innocent and naïve. Within the first few

Comparing The Flea and Valentine Essay
Comparing The Flea and Valentine
The flea is a metaphysical poem about a man trying to argue a virgin into bed to have sexual
intercourse with him. This poem was most likely written to amuse the readers and probably more for a
larger male audience. The poem was written in the late 17th century in a period where sex within
marriage was like a household chore, but socially, sex before marriage was like a sin, because society
was extremely religious. John Donne is attempting to get these thoughts out of her head and persuade
her to have sex with him.
Metaphysical poets use a lot of elaborate and extended comparisons.
They wrote energetic and vigorous poems that went against the common literature of the time.
There are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The poet points out that losing her virginity is not a sin.
A sin, nor shame, nor loss of maidenhead
He tries to reverse her views that both society and herself share. He is very persuasive in this poem
and uses the flea many times as a symbol of their sexual union and uses many metaphors. He uses
many sly phrases also which could easily win his argument and I feel it is making her feel guilty and
starting to make her confused and think about the prospects of them having sex.
I think that during the end of the first stanza the poet starts to become quite theatrical.
Yet this enjoys it before it woo, And pamper d swells in one blood made of two; And this, alas! Is
more than we would do.
This could be referring to sex. The flea enjoys the blood and so does the man enjoy foreplay. The
pamper d swells could be that of sexual organs before sex and yet, because that is not happening, the
flea is having a better time at the moment than he is, by sucking their blood.
I think that by using this comparison, John Donne is being very intellectual and at this point I feel he
may win his argument.
The second stanza, John Donne becomes weaker as the girl starts to defend herself and he tries to
convey his love for her.
John Donne, in this stanza I feel becomes more intimate and uses alliteration and much more poetic
techniques. At the beginning of the second stanza, I would assume that the girl has got up and left him.

Positive and Negative Effects of Tourism in Africa
The effects of tourism in Africa
Ever since the ability to travel over vast amounts of distances around the world became easier with the
use of innovative marvels such as the aeroplane, tourism started to grow in certain countries that had
enough places of interest. Africa offered much that cannot be seen anywhere else in the world; from
the ancient pyramids of Giza to the spectacular wildlife migration in the Serengeti. Tourist from
around the world would pay a lot of money to see and be a part of this almost untouched beauty. Thus
tourism in Africa started to grow and became one of the most important sources of income for many
countries. But the dilemma that we know face is whether tourism offers more benefits to the society to
overcome ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Social effects of tourism have an impact on the society of a certain area and focuses on their
wellbeing. We live in a world where people must be able to keep with the modern world in order to
survive and obtain an income, forcing a loss in certain traditions and culture. But tourism encourages
people in rural areas to keep their traditions and embrace their culture. For example, the arts and crafts
made by the Ndebele tribe in South Africa as a symbol of their culture can be sold to tourists.
Tourists also pay money to be guests of these primitive tribes in Africa. This creates a better
understanding and awareness between various kinds of cultures. The negative aspect of tourism on a
society is over congestion in certain areas where there is not enough recourses for the people in that
area. This mainly affects the life quality of the local population. Prostitution which is an easy source
of income may increase in order to satisfy some tourists needs, for example in the 2010 Fifa World
Cup hosted in South Africa, prostitution increased during that period of time. Drug and alcohol abuse
may also increase the crime in communities. A society may also be harmed when their land are being
stripped away in order to build hotels and accommodation for the tourism industry.
The largest and most significant negative effect of tourism is its impact on the

Ivan Denisovich
Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn was best known for his novel, One day in the life of Ivan Denisovich, which
explores a day in the life of Ivan Denisovich, who was imprisoned in a Soviet labor camp.
Solzhenitsyn, being a previous denizen of a similar camp, effectively conveys the hardships and
dilemmas these prisoners faced through the use of dramatic irony and tone. Solzhenitsyn uses irony to
reflect his opinion that loyalty to the Soviet regime was futile and had no purpose whatsoever. He uses
the tone to express his emotions regarding the unfair imprisonment of the characters through the
analepses provided for Tiurin, Senka and Sukhov. Solzhenitsyn skillfully weaves in flashbacks
through the thoughts of the characters, the narrator or the stories ... Show more content on

Senka, one of the team 104th quietest members, also suffers the consequences of being loyal to the
Soviet regime. Senka served the army during Hitler s attack on the Soviet Union and had suffered on
both ends: One of his eardrums had been smashed in 41 and he later had been captured, recaptured
and sent to Buchenwald (Solzhenitsyn, 45) where he smuggled in arms to organize a mutiny
(Solzhenitsyn, 57). He had tried to escape three times with no avail. The last time he was captured he
was punished by tying his wrists behind him, hanging by them and flogging him hard (Solzhenitsyn,
59). When he finally was released back to the Soviet Union, he charged for treason and put into this
gulag. Senka, despite enduring so much physical and mental stress to escape and organize a mutiny
against the Germans in an effort to stay loyal to his home country, lead him to the Stalinist work
camps in the Soviet Union under charges of treason. Here we see Solzhenitsyn using the ironic gap
between the character s intention and outcome to once again to condemn any effort to be loyal to the
Soviet Union. Senka s flashback is also narrated with a very apologetic tone, best seen when the
narrator calls him a luckless fellow (Solzhenitsyn, 45), and describes his painful torture. Solzhenitsyn
further adds elements such as Senka s extremely broken spirit to increase reader sympathy: You re lost
Senka often says, if you show your pride too much (Solzhenitsyn, 45). This also allows the readers to
better connect with Senka s character by feeling very sorry for him. This also helps Solzhenitsyn
further demonstrate the drastic, often sad consequences of being loyal to the Soviet

Portrayal of London in the Opening of Bleak House Essay
The first paragraph of Bleak House alone gives the reader an instant idea of how Charles Dickens saw
London to be around 1842. He has portrayed the streets to be muddy and extremely polluted, As much
mud in the streets as if the waters had but newly retired from the face of the earth. Here Dickens has
used a slight amount of Hyperbole to emphasize his point. He also uses personification when referring
to the snow flakes, saying that they have gone into mourning, ?smoke lowering down from the
chimneypots, making a soft black drizzle, with flakes of soot in it as big as full grown snowflakes?
gone into mourning, one might imagine, for the death of the sun.? the contrast of the imagery he is
using helps for the reader to imagine the scene, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He also tells the reader that even outside London?s centre fog is still covering everything, ?Fog on the
Essex marshes, fog on the Kentish heights. Fog creeping into the cabooses of collier brigs?. Dickens
also uses fog to symbolize death and disease, ?Fog in the eyes and throats of ancient Greenwich
pensioners, wheezing by the firesides of their wards?. He makes the reader feel as if it is infecting and
killing the inhabitants of London, and gives the reader images. In my opinion Dickens is trying to
make the point that the fog is spreading and it is London?s fault that one day everywhere will be
covered and everyone will be cloaking on the mistakes London made. The reader is given the
impression that Dickens thinks that this is all the Governments fault. Right from the beginning the
Lord Chancellor is portrayed and lazy, ?Michaelmas term lately over. Lord Chancellor sitting in
Lincoln?s Inn Hall.? He then goes on to refer to Lincoln?s Inn Hall as ?at the very heart of the fog?
insinuating that the Lord Chancellor is the cause of the fog. He also says, ?Lord High Chancellor
ought to be sitting her?as here he is?with a foggy glory round his head, softly fenced in with a crimson
cloth and curtains.? Dickens is making the Lord Chancellor out to be very ignorant to the problems of
London and just engulfed in his own power. The fact that the Lord Chancellor has ?Crimson cloth and
curtains? gives the impression to

Fossil Fuels As A Source Of Energy
Since the evolution of science, many people have become solely dependent on a variety of
technologies to supply their essential needs of life. A key technology that people have a high level of
dependency on is fossil fuels. Fossil fuels are a source of energy people use in their everyday life as a
way to get light, electricity, and to keep warm. Fossil fuels are perceived as a nuclear energy, which
has been around for decades. Initially, scientists perceived this type of energy as affordable and safe;
however, in the late 20th century, danger of nuclear plants began to threat regions of United States.
Due to the increase of global warning from the burning of fossil fuels, climate scientists and
environmental experts are considering ways to replace nuclear energy (Ferguson). Since the world
uses fossil fuels as a source of energy supply, it would be beneficial if the world considered using
alternatives means of energy sources once all the present energy has been used up. The world would
greatly benefit from these alternatives since the production of present energy is polluting America. Yet
with the world being greatly overpopulated and having insufficient supplies of resources, scientists all
across the nation are thinking of ways to replace fossil fuels with alternative energies. Therefore, the
purpose of this paper is to explicate alternatives people could use as a source of energy instead of
being merely dependent on fossil fuels, and the advantages and disadvantages of

The Effects of a Healthy Low Calorie Restricted Diet and Aerobic Exercise on Obesity By Robert Jay

Capstone Reader: Dr. Patrick Forcelli Introduction The prevalence of obesity continues to increase and
remains elevated over the past several decades in the United States (12). About 34% adults and 17%
children are obese, which totals to about 72 million adults and 12 million children out of the entire
U.S. population. Among these, African Americans and Hispanics Americans have the highest rates

Body Mass Index (BMI) is a method of measuring obesity by dividing the height of an individual by
his or her weight. Although BMI indirectly measures fat in the body, BMI correlates with the amount
of body fat and is a convenient measurement. Athletes in particular have a BMI with an obesity
measurement due to lean muscle mass, not fat mass. In adults, a BMI within the range of 18.5 and
24.9 is healthy, between 25 and 29.9 is overweight, and above 30 is obese (10, 12). In contrast, weight
of children is determined by calculating age and sex specific percentile for the BMI; body composition
vary by gender and age. BMI below the 85th percentile is healthy, between 85th and 95th percentile is
overweight, and above 95th percentile is obese (12). Other methods to determine obesity is by
calculating waist to hip ratio, measuring skinfold thickness, or using ultrasound and magnetic
resonance imaging. Some treatments to control obesity is by setting goals, committing to lifestyle
changes, taking prescriptions, or agreeing to weight loss surgeries. Medicinal and surgical approaches
are typically the last options in controlling obesity if lifestyle changes remain ineffective. However,
these come with both positive and negative outcomes. In comparison to lifestyle changes, there are
only positive outcomes where lifestyle changes focuses on balancing calorie intake and expenditure
(10, 12). Calorie intake of about 3,500 calories (kcal) is

a young African American man is trying to fit into white society that holds majority of blacks back.
During the beginning, the narrator is bewildered by his grandfather s last words. His grandfather spoke

remarks that the grandfather s had made. His words have been kept behind his mind. Soon after the
grandfather death, the narrator is anticipated to give a speech at his high school graduation party

Take Me Out Critique
On this critique, I am going to discussed Take Me Out by Richard Greenberg, directed by Andrew
Paul and the aspects of it. The play was about a baseball team, however, it addresses the social issues
in modern American life such as racial and sexual identity1. In this play, it uses baseball to describe
the beauty of democracy. What I am going to discuss on this critique is the set designs, the level of
participation, lighting, and the theme of the play.
When I entered into the theatre to take a seat, I noticed the stage was set up with showers, lockers, and
small baseball field. The showers were placed in the back of the stage, the baseball players lockers
were placed on the sides, and there was painted baseball field in the middle of the ... Show more

Throughout the play, it was amazing how they used the lights to transition when tragic events occurred
in play like a cliffhanger. In part three, when Shane confesses about the wrong deeds Kippy did, the
light shines only at Darren and Kippy to make the event look serious; which made event suspenseful
for the audience to capture their attention.
The theme Take Me Out was sexuality or race identity doesn t change the personality of the person or
what they do. In the beginning of the play, the players didn t care about sexuality or race because they
all loved playing baseball and winning. Also, they used baseball to describe having the freedom to
express themselves. Which was true, because sexuality and race is just a part of who we are as a
person.
How the set designs, level of participation, lighting, and the theme made Take Me Out stands out to
me. How the set designs help captures the setting of the story so, the audience can feel they were on
an actual baseball field and locker room. The lighting and level of participation help to build up
suspense to the story and made the audience wanting to continue every time it left with a cliffhanger.
Overall, the play was amazing due to all the techniques in the play so they can send the message
across and make them acknowledge the problem in

Frederic Douglass Essay
The United States of America is a country that was founded on the basic principles of freedom and
liberty. This often leaves it with a reputation as a land full of hope, where anything is possible as long
as one is willing to work hard for it. Unfortunately, this idea is not always true. Frederick Douglas,
who was born a slave, did not have the privelege of this aforementioned freedom, liberty, and social
mobility. Even though he was an exceptionally bright man, he was enslaved and persecuted because of
his skin color. His life represents both the failure and success of the American dream, with the failure
being the extremely more dominant, because of the color of his skin.

(Quote where he says he felt freedom) Feeling this yearnig from freedom at such a young age shows
that being free was a god given right or quot;Law of nature quot;, as Jefferson so eloquently stated in
the Declaration of Independence. With all of this is mind it is very clear Douglass being born in to
slavery was a deifinite failure of the American Dream.
amp;#9;In the Declaration of Independence one of the most famous portions goes as follows: quot;We
hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed to certain
unailiable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness. quot; This pursuit of
happiness is a very important part of the American dream, for it is the result of all the rights that were
layed out. By being alloted these rights a person is free to pursue happiness in their life, whatever
happiness may be to them.
amp;#9;It is very ironic that when Douglass finally got his first taste of freedom he had to be
deceptive in sneaking away from his owner, just as the writers of the constution were deceptive in
their defintion of quot;man quot;. Once Douglass escaped from slavery he was surprised to find that
the north also a very racist place. Not only did the majority of northern whites still feel that blacks
were inferiour, New York was full of people looking to turn in fugitive slaves. Frederick also found
that his abolitionist friends were not free from this prejudice. At gatherings

Summary Of Origins Of The Final Solution By Christopher...
The Origins of the final solution by Christopher Browning gives a comprehensive review of what led
up to the final solution. He belongs to the school of thought of moderate functionalism, that the final
solution was led up to, and that policies enacted led up to it, with no premeditation. He argues that the
final solution happened because of previous attempts to create a Judenfrei Europe that did not have
enough success. It uses multiple types of evidence to prove this thesis. First it talks about Jewish
policy in Poland, involving deportation and in turn the resettlement of Volksdeutsche. The problem
with this is that it does not have enough success, with deportation rates at a low 40% on average. In
addition, many government officials were

Similarities Between Ancient Greek And American Society
American Society and Ancient Greece
Ancient Greece believed that art is a depiction of the one s culture and individualism. Ancient Greece
helped shaped the world of today. We have many similarities with ancient Greece today. Ancient
Greece had three different column styles the Doric, Ionic and Corinthian as a substitute wood for
building temples. These three different styles are still been used today in various mode like the
Greeks.
Thanks to the Doric style a plain, simple column with a circle on the top of the column, we can enjoy
the benefits of sitting on our porches with roofs attached protecting us from the elements. The porch

The Corinthian style is used for contemporary furniture designs like my mother s cherry wood high
four posts bed with flowers etch in the posters. Many planners use the Corinthian style columns for
elaborate decorations particular in weddings today.
Another similarity, we share with ancient Greece is the love of sports rivalry especially the Olympic
Games. In 776 B.C., the first Olympic Games begin as an achievement in art, ethical conduct and
interaction of the mind in ancient Greece. Today athletes from all over the world take part in the
Olympic Games. In spite of the many new events such as bicycling, skating, gymnastics, swimming,
soccer and basketball, many of the earlier (ancient Greece) events such as footraces, jumping, discus
and javelin throwing, boxing, and wrestling are still a part of the today games.
As we mourned the recent loss of Muhammad Ali, boxing champion of the world to many, continued
the ancient Greece s tradition of carrying the torch to light the cauldron during the 1996 Summer
Olympics games in Atlanta, GA. The torch remains lit until the conclusion of competition today as it

Should College Athletes Get paid
CaDerius Andrews Ms.Teague Eng.102 30 April 2014 Are college athlete s players or employees? The
idea of paying a college athlete appears to be outrageous to some. The thought of giving someone
money for something they have chosen to do may not appear to be fair. The greatest concern is where
to draw the line. Should the decision be based on the amount of money and fame the program
generates? Why should athletes be treated special and receive compensation for their contribution to
the school? One major factor is that athletes make numerous sacrifices beyond that of a nonathletic
student. Many athletes can t seek employment to help offset the expenses of college because they are
on the field or court for the majority of their day. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After all, it is the same player, same sport, just a different showground. They devote just as much time
and effort to the team sport as the pros in addition to balancing school and the requirements of the
curriculum. In all honesty this balancing act can be overwhelming and some students may have family
obligations as well, which poses an even greater challenge. College athletes are exploited by their
schools, which make millions of dollars off of them. The NCAA and professional leagues can work
together to institute a plan to compensate these athletes and remedy all these problems. Student
athletes need money just like any other college students, and many of them need it even more. Many
of these talented athletes come from a disadvantaged background and do not have the financial
support needed to sustain from home. They are driven to do there very best to hopefully change their
future and the lives of their love ones. Most collegiate athletes receive injuries during his or her
athletic career. There is an astonishing 750,000 injuries reported per year in the United States. Injuries
are the worst part of being a college competitor. Even worse, is the possibility of a requiring injury or
multiple injuries in one s career? Breaking a bone or tearing a muscle puts both a physical and mental

My Family s Influence On My Life
The word community maintains an assortment of meanings for each of us. These meanings are
composed from various life experiences within our communities. To me, my communities include my
family, friends, schools, work, and the town I live in. My communities have had an influence on who I
have become as a person and continue to influence me on a daily basis. As I reflect back on the past
twenty years, the community that has had the most impact on me is my family. Now, everyone has
their own definition of family. So, when I say the word family, I am referring to my mom and dad.
These two people have had the most influence on my life. From the very beginning, I began to shape
the person I am based on the people my parents are. I can remember spending many hours with my
dad in his shop, watching him diagnose mechanical problems. Then I would watch as he took apart a
machine piece by piece, only to reassemble it exactly the same way once the problem at hand was
resolved. As the years progressed, I became closer with my mom, spending the majority of my time
with her. I would help her around the house with everyday chores. I can remember the joy I
experienced when I was able to go to work with mom. I would watch in awe at the number of tasks
my mother was responsible for at one time. How she would swiftly move from one task to another,
handling the many interruptions, and balancing the numerous new tasks placed on her desk each day.
Spending much of my time with

Inferential and Descriptive Statistics
Before we continue the discussion about the basic descriptive data elements that are needed to answer
the question I previously posed, it is important to understand what we mean by descriptive statistics.
Descriptive statistics describe the features of the data collected. In other words, descriptive statistics
describe what the data looks like, but it does not tell you why or how data elements interact or
influence one another. Descriptive statistics provide a defender with summaries about the data
collected and these summaries may be either quantitative or visual. Quantitative descriptive statistics
are the sum of data points that are usually reported as total numbers or averages in a report. For
example, defender offices can use descriptive statistics to determine the total of open felony cases per
attorney in one year or say that on average they had x number of open cases in the last two years.
These are considered to be summaries of caseloads that describe the data collected but it does not tell
you if a certain variable (number of cases opened in this example) has an influence (or is correlated)
with the final outcome of a case. When we say that a variable is correlated we mean that the
knowledge of a certain variable (caseload numbers) can allow you to consistently predict the action of
another (final dispositional outcomes). For example, if you mix two hydrogen and one oxygen (H20),
you get water. We know that every time you have the interaction of these

Essay On Women s Center
Current Problems of the Women s Center
Many Women s Centers have been changing the name of the center to become more inclusive due to
the definition of feminism and the values of the Women s Center. The idea of the Women s Center is to
provide information, education, and advocacy surrounding issues of women. At some point the topic
of women s issues get very burly with the topics of gender identification and the population it is
aiming to serve.
This section will be exploring the risks, needs and current problems of the Women s Centers. Funding
seems to be a constant problem with all universities across the United States. There are grants,
scholarship, and funding for Women s Centers but getting them becomes the problem. They may ...

Others noted that it was difficult to serve all women in a diverse student population (Kasper, 2004,
p189). Going along with attendance is territorialism. Centers have reported that they have to be carful
not to plan activity s or events that may step on the toes of others. Centers have seen this problem only
grow with budgetary problems and cuts from the college (Kasper, 2004).
With the combination between all the problems it becomes had for Women s Centers to be recognized
for what they do and who is represented. Then the question is asked whom does the Women s Center
include? What issues should be addressed? Who are they supporting? Will including more people
affect funding? How would this effect current member of the Women s Center? These are question
that will have to be addressed when creating a Women s Center as well as any center that addresses
this population of people. In (re)conceptualizing these spaces, we must think about ways to be more
inclusive of the students who are marginalized within groups (Nicolazzo Harris, 2014, p. 6)
Change to Centers
Many university campus Women s Centers in the United States have been making the change from
Women s Centers to a more gender inclusive name as a result of the values behind the Women s
Centers. Women s centers can play a significant role in promoting equity as long as they are viewed as
central vehicles in the equity process and are able to avoid marginalization (Bengiveno, 2000, p 7).

As previously seen, the majority of fan fiction writers and readers are young, queer women. We have
also seen that these women are preferring to focus on queer relationships between men. We understand
why, a lack of female characters and a desire to protect oneself from unwanted emotional fallout. But
how are women turning themselves into men, albeit briefly, for the purposes of fandom?
We ve discussed fan fiction and fan art, but there are more performative ways to become a character.

performers wear the costume of a certain character. Cosplay is a distinct form of fancy dress as it is an

tells another prisoner, who tells Andy, that Tommy had had a cellmate at a different prison who
bragged about killing a rich golfer and some hot shot banker s wife, and the banker getting jailed for

The Pros And Cons Of The Louisiana Purchase
The Louisiana Purchase was a key point in The United States of America s history that without it, the
country as we know it would be completely different. The Louisiana Purchase may have been a
controversial decision, but it was a good on that put America on track to becoming a superpower.
Almost half of America was included in the Purchase and the rest on the west coast is separated by the
land included in the Purchase. So, if the purchase had never happened America would still be confined
to only the east coast that borders the Atlantic and we d be a much smaller country. However, since the
Louisiana Purchase did happen, the country spans from both the west and east coast. The Louisiana
Purchase is the treaty that lead America to be one of the three largest countries in the world. Along
with the land came the things that are within nature and can only be created by nature which are
natural resources. Included in the Purchase made between Jefferson and Napoleon was everything on
and in the ground, that was bought. This means that all of the gold, oil, wood, and any other useful
resources that could be found on the land was included in the deal. America was then opened up to
many more riches to help their economy. This could also comprise of the new land that could be used
for farming of many different plants and foods. So, not only did the territory grow so did the wealth in
natural resources.

Hildegard Alleluia Essay
Egeria is perceived as a mysterious worshipper of her time, around the fourth century. Hildegard of
Bingen is believed to be a twelfth century renaissance woman. Due to time and lack of proper records,
details about Egeria are not well known. However, people speculate that she was a Spanish nun who
lived in the fourth century. Hildegard existed between the years 1098 and 1179 and she was a German
medieval composer (Newman 273). Notably, the musical works of Hildegard are set in a liturgical
way.
Hildegard s Alleluia is a typical plain chant with the main message being unending praises for Virgin
Mary. It is done by a group of soloists who take a lead in turns as the others give responses. The piece
is monophonic, that is one note per syllable, with minimal movement. Notably the single melody has
no accompaniment (Newman 273). Being a sacred text, it is meant to be used during worship and
mostly during feasts to honor Mary especially in the Roman Catholic setting. The work of Hildegard
generally portrays great knowledge and wisdom in the field of music. ... Show more content on

Similarities And Differences Of Snow White Story
Snow White is a fairytale that never gets old. Countless young children know the tale by heart: A
young, beautiful girl tries to live a happy life while her mother tries to kill her due to Snow White
being prettier than her. Snow White, though, has a much more profound, unexploited history. There
are many versions of this story that not a lot of people read. Two texts that were particularly
fascinating were Gold Tree and Silver Tree as well as Nourie Hadig. In Gold Tree and Silver Tree,
Silver Tree becomes jealous with Gold Tree s beauty and tries to kill her newlywed daughter, but Gold
Tree made a new friend, and she helped take care of Silver Tree. In Nourie Hadig, Nourie is left in the
forest by her father because her mother wants to kill her. There, she takes care of a prince all the while
her mother is trying to find her. Both these stories have amazing similarities and striking differences,
but the similarities significantly outweigh the differences. The stories are astonishingly similar many
ways, but their characters are the most standout thing about these stories. While these figures have
their differences, the similarities are much more eye catching. These characters are similar because
their personalities follow a similar rhythm throughout the stories and their actions also stay the same.
These stories characters represent the reason why these stories commonly have been given the title of
being the origins of Snow White. Their protagonists, Nourie Hadig

Finance At The University Of Florida
Page 1: Personal Reflection 1. I am studying Finance at the University of Florida because not only do
I have a creative side but an intellectual side of me too. Crazily, mathematics comes naturally to me
and is also a huge concept in finance, but finance isn t just numbers, it incorporates various aspects
such as communication, problem solving, and creativity. Finance unites my limitless passion for math
and joins it with some of my personality traits, which is the best of both worlds. More specifically, in
my upbringing, money was tight and my parents always stressed when facing financial issues. My
background catalyzed my admiration to the effect the power of money holds when used properly.
Finding the best financial effects and awareness of all options to make well informed financial
decisions to assist an individual or a company in the most beneficial way seems rewarding and
intriguing to me. So, all of these elements have directed me into my interest in Finance. 2. Ideally,
successful, inspired, independent, and skilled are just a few ideas that describe my picture perfect

Arguments Against The Big Bang Theory
The earth has been around for billions of years, or has it? Throughout the past few decades, people all
over the world have been fighting about the creation of this world we live on. While many scientists
agree that the earth is billions of years old and that it was created by a Big Bang, a large number of
others are firm in the idea of Creation. This argument strikes a nerve all over the place. Schools are
finding that they are not able to express both sides without one side or the other calling foul. This is an
argument firmly rooted in religion, more specifically, Christianity. In a way this argument has turned
into a war on the conservative Christian population, and has been stereotyped as the argument between
Atheists and Christians. Although I have my own beliefs, I am going to lay out the facts, or maybe just
the opinions of both sides, because who really knows.

Fourth Grade Justification Report
Angel Villavicencio and I Luis. Alvarenga will be heading to Landers Elementary school to present
the fourth grade class taught by Ms. McCall information about Earth and its ecosystem. As we go into
each presentation, we will question the students to see how they are gathering and receiving the
information. We will be going to the class for four days spending fifteen minutes each day. We will
use the materials provided in the room such as the whiteboard to get our information through to the
students.
Our parents will provide us transportation to and from the school. In doing this my partner and I hope
to spark something in this generation of children and inspire them to protect the Earth. We will show
an example of the expectations of high school and work that will need to be done. The children of this
generation will be our future, so we need to teach them while they are ... Show more content on

Any data we gather will probably be in the form of simple small classroom activities. Some activities
will be class questions, visual presentations, and songs. We will have a small fun worksheet at the end
of each day to measure the effort each child puts into their work. On the fourth day a fun mini project
will be done by the entire class to benefit the environment and school campus.
The small assignments we provide will be fun work for the fourth graders and we hope they have fun.
We have the permission to go to that school from the teacher. Our health will not only benefit us by
our grade, but also learn how the kids think about the ecosystem. Problems we might face during the
project will be the kids being loud and not listening to us. I really hope they don t because then doing
this project will be an issue. We really want to know what the kid s opinion is going to be either they
care or not about our ecosystem and planet

Essay Role and Function of Enobarbous
Consider the role and function of Enobarbus in Antony and Cleopatra
Enobarbus is a vital character and a key element to the success of the play. Emrys Jones view on
Enobarbus is that he is the plays strongest supporting character and structural device of great
importance to the plays dramatic effect. He is portrayed in many forms, honest, likable, high ranking
solider, he is of note trustworthy and a true friend to Antony. Enobarbus and Antony share a deep
friendship. Antony confides in Enobarbus allowing him to speak freely and honestly. When Antony
tells Enobarbus Fulvia is dead he replies with Why, sir, give the gods a thankful sacrifice showing
Enobarbus freedom of speech in private. Enobarbus has to be told his place more than ... Show more

Enobarbus speaks the truth. Wilson Knight states Enobarbus often sees the truth whilst his superiors
blunder at cross purposes. His opinions are spoken bluntly and sometimes at inappropriate times and
sometimes caustic. He joins in with the crowd both in Rome and Egypt. He first appears in the play
with the soothsayer, enjoying the company of Cleopatra s maids showing the audience that he can fit
into both geographical parts of the play with ease and confidence. Although he is portrayed as a
professional soldier he enjoys pleasure too, Most of our fortunes be drunk to bed he is sociable and
humorous and when he sees Cleopatra coming he jokes hush here come Antony. Although he enjoys a
drink he is serious when he is needed for military duty and takes the view work before pleasure
keeping within the Roman ideas of conduct. Wilson Knight states Enobarbus is the moral centre of the
play and through him shows that loyalty and the power of love overshadows common sense and
logical reasoning .
There are four main functions of Enobarbus within the play. He is used as a chorus for example in
commenting on the reconciliation of Antony and Caesar and Antony s marriage to Octavia.
Traditionally Shakespeare would use the chorus role as more of a secondary character to give the
audience an insight into what they should expect throughout the play and create picture like images so
that the audience can appreciate the scenes.

The Death Of A Costumed Adventurer
The death of a costumed adventurer often leads audiences to contemplate the significance of it. It is a
prevalent issue in which these characters appear to sacrifice their lives for the possibility of a greater
good. In Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons Watchmen, masked hero are subjected towards death due to
their actions and the actions of others. Whether it is the actions of a friend, stranger, or foe, the
untimely deaths of Rorschach, Nite Owl I, and The Comedian proves a costumed adventurer s death
leads to the loss of humanity. Walter Joseph Kovacs, or more commonly known as Rorschach, is a
costumed vigilante whose death plays a significant role in Watchmen. Rorschach is depicted as a
disturbed man who believes there is always a right and wrong, even if it means breaking the law to
bring a higher justice in the world. His belief deems prevalent by defying the Keene Act of 1977,
which outlawed any type of vigilantism by costumed adventurers, except for those who worked
exclusively under the United States government like Dr. Manhattan and The Comedian. By breaking
down the components of Rorschach s mask, there will be a deeper understanding of what the
mysterious Rorschach represents in Watchmen. Rorschach s viewpoint of the world is often
interpreted through his mask, which is black and white... [and is constantly] changing shape...but not
mixing...[with] no gray [areas] (Gibbons, Moore 188). It was made of two layers of latex with viscous
black and white fluid imprisoned

Court Decides Cases
Factors the Court Considers When Choosing Cases There are pivotal reasons for the Supreme Court to
give merit to cases to be heard on the court floor. Not all parties are satisfied with the decision made
by lower courts, for that reason the mentioned party must petition the U.S. Supreme Court to hear
their case. With the overwhelming number of more than 10,000 petitions for certiorari every year
submitted to the Supreme Court, only less than 80 accepted for hearing, the rest of cases discarded in
the process. The Supreme Court practice for four justices to grant a writ of certiorari for a case to be
heard on the Court floor, preventing a majority of the Court from controlling the Court s docket, thus
under the Rule of Four, the Supreme Court decides which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Based on the summarized petitions and its recommendation, if the cases are in the Justices favor, the
Justices make a decision to proceed with the issue of a writ of certiorari. The Influence Factors For the
Supreme Court To Rule The law, personal views of the judges that relates to their ideology, influence
of the other justices, social pressure/public opinion, and influence of the other branches of government
are taken into measures by the Supreme Court to rule over cases. The Supreme Court is not immune to
those internal and external factors upon their ruling. The Most Importance Factors For Justices to

law represents the justice of all, or at least the goal of that such of law written. Also, expectedly the

Elaboration Of Instant Coffee And The Extraction Process...
Elaboration of instant coffee. The extraction process is one of the most important stages in the
production of instant coffee. The extraction is usually done on roasted and crushed beans, using water
as the extractive fluid, obtaining a final solution that contains around 25 to 30% of solids. The solution
is then taken to an atomizer, which yields instant coffee grains as a final product. Coffee extraction is
carried out in equipment especially designed for this process, consisting of extractors that work under
countercurrent, multistage systems, and fixed beds. The solid recently charged is extracted with water
at 100°C and, as the process continues, the temperature of the water is increased. High temperatures
favor the hydrolysis of insoluble carbohydrates, which in this way become soluble, increasing the
soluble solids content in the final solution. However, very high temperatures can hydrolyze substances
that may confer undesirable aromas and flavors to the extract. FIGURE 21.17

Todd Willingham s Conviction Process
Todd Willingham s Conviction Process One day Cameron Todd Willingham woke up to his house on
fire and was lucky enough to escape, but sadly his three children were left behind and did not survive.
After the horrific incident, Willingham was prosecuted and received the death sentence for starting a
fire with the intention to kill his children. Before the prosecution, an investigation developed that
involved professionals and eyewitness testimonies that concluded Willingham as guilty.
Unfortunately, there were many flaws during the process of the investigation. The investigation had
weak evidence with no scientific background, some prosecutors appeared bias, and the prosecution
relied too much on eyewitness. The criminal justice system had many flaws when it came down to
Willinghams prosecution and I blame the people involved in the system. After the tragic fire, two fire
investigators arrived at the scene to determine what caused the blaze. The investigation was
considered very professional, since they did have the right kind of professionals and experts at the
moment. One of the investigators was named Douglas Fogg, he was at the time considered as an arson
investigator, due to his twenty year experience. Although, one thing I knew that was a little suspicious
was the way he investigated the fire and according to Fogg, You learn that fire talks to you (Grann,
para 12). Since Fogg has had a long experience, he believed that, that is enough skill or education to

The World And Empires By Anthony Pagden
Peoples and Empires Throughout history there have been a multitude of different empires to rise up
and conquer land, along with the people inhabiting that land. More often than not, these empires fell.
Whether the empire was quickly abolished, or it maintained power for decades, most of them were
over thrown. Anthony Pagden, who at the time of publication was a history professor at John Hopkins,
wrote the book Peoples and Empires in 2003 to explain the history of the once Great European
Empires . These empires included, but are not limited to, the French, the Spanish, the British, and the
Roman Empire. One major idea of the content focuses on how these particular empires justified their
conquering, not only to themselves, but also to their followers and the people who rebelled against
them. Conquerors would travel to the ends of the earth in order to obtain more land which in turn is
more power. However, in order to do this they had to justify their actions to the individuals occupying
that land. In doing so, they fabricated what they assumed were acceptable reasons as to why an empire
was more luxurious, or in other words better , than the systems they had in place before. The most
common ideology between all of the empires was the simple idea of being civilized versus being
barbaric or savage . Pagden thoroughly explains how the empires used this ideology and coupled it
with small force to justify their actions and the overall concept of an empire: They

Examples Of Overcoming Strengths In Life
The struggle you re in today is developing the strength you need for tomorrow Robert Tew. Success is
getting to a good place in life, despite past obstacles. We all have a chance to be successful even
though there are hardships that we may experience along the way. In the book, A Child Called It, the
Netflix TV series Shameless, and the biopic All Eyez on Me each depict the lives of individuals who
overcome obstacles in life. My favorite works of art, feature characters that have struggled to
overcome obstacles in order to gain success.
My favorite book, A Child Called It, is about a boy who was physically, verbally and mentally abused
by his mother. David s mother struggles to treat her son with love, and respect. First, David was
physically abused by his mom. For example, David s mother would beat him, and make him eat his
brothers feces. As a child, David felt worthless, and he wanted his mother s love, but instead he was
beaten and threatened as if he was less than human. Next, David endured verbal abuse from his
mother; throughout the book there are many instances were David s mother would curse, and call him
terrible names. Lastly, David had to deal with psychological torture from his mother. David suffered
from the emotional scars that his mother left behind. He never felt what it was like to be loved by a
parent, David only knew what it was like to be hurt by one. The mental abuse that David endured will
forever impact his life, but his situation made him a stronger person. David has turned the abuse he
experienced as a child in books to share his story.
Shameless, my favorite TV series, is filmed on the Southside of Chicago. It features a dysfunctional
family with everyday struggles, such as problems with friendships, and financially. First, Shameless
demonstrates the complexity of relationships. For example, one of the main characters Fiona has had
many boyfriends. She hasn t found the right man yet, but from what she has experienced with men she
has grown mentally through the series. Each character in Shameless has been through there fair share
of tests with friendships and relationships. But, the characters find a way to overcome their issue.
Next, the characters struggle to become

Modern Social Media And All Forms Of Print Alike
Modern social media and all forms of print alike have become overrun with advertisements. These ads
become distractions to the readers and take their mind away from the sole purpose of the articles.
More specifically, this advertisement featured in Men s Health magazine from March of 2015, shows a
full back cover dedicated to LA Muscle. This company sells a large merchandise line of dietary
supplements and workout enhancing products appealing to males ages 16 40. Starring in this ad is
their Gold LA Whey Protein. Their ads have been known to catch readers off guard and steal their
attention from the actual magazine. With the sophisticated text, colors, and images, this ad hits Men s
Health readers with intimidation, current trends, and image coaxing them into purchasing their over
priced, no guarantee product. First off, LA Muscle immediately grabs the readers attention by
rhetorically asking, Protein is protein, right? WRONG. This statement is meant to make readers
question whether or not the protein they currently use compares to the one that is being marketed to
them. The word WRONG is boldly printed, to intimidate readers and make them second guess
themselves for thinking all protein is the same. The strong emphasis on this word quickly grabs the
readers attention. Even those readers who have done their research about their supplements may be
swayed into thinking that their opinion on the most beneficial protein could not be correct. This tactic
works

  • 2. Alexis De Tocqueville Research Paper Ch.10: May 12, 1831 Alexis De Tocqueville and Gustave de Beaumont arrived in New York. Tocqueville s judgements in America were the wages are higher and the cost of living was lower than in Europe. In his perspective, America was undifferentiated middle class society. The U.S rate of population growth was high doubling every 22 years. In the west, five new states entered the Union in 1830s and 1840s. Population movement from farm to cities increased the growth in large cities that made new towns in the Northeast and Northwest. The Growth of cities undermined the family as a unit of economic production. Husbands were away from the house during work hours and the wife took control of the home. However, in the lower class women had to work also. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Stereotypes In Lap Dance In mainstream media and film, strippers are given a very narrow representation when they re even included in a storyline at all: The women and men who make up the sex industry tend to be painted with a broad brush, being portrayed as morally corrupt. It s implied that they either joined the industry because of their negative traits, or that those traits were developed during their time working in it. This harmful stereotype is pretty consistently perpetuated, and done so through both male and female characters. The film being used here to provide a few examples of this stereotype is Lap Dance (Greg Carter), a 2014 film about a woman who begins working as an exotic dancer to supplement her income. When the main character Monica is first introduced in the film, she learns her father has cancer. Soon after, the doctor informs Monica and her fiancé Kevin that insurance is no longer covering his hospital stay. He them that the payment required for hospice care totals to fifteen thousand dollars, which neither of them have. Monica is disheartened and takes up a job working at a nail salon, where she runs into an old friend of hers who works as a dancer. The friend, whose name is Tasha, tries to convince Monica to come dance with her at her club. At first, Monica insists she can t do it. However, after the reality of the current money dilemma sets in, she decides she has nothing to lose. When Monica begins dancing, she s still very innocent and naïve. Within the first few ... • 4. Comparing The Flea and Valentine Essay Comparing The Flea and Valentine The flea is a metaphysical poem about a man trying to argue a virgin into bed to have sexual intercourse with him. This poem was most likely written to amuse the readers and probably more for a larger male audience. The poem was written in the late 17th century in a period where sex within marriage was like a household chore, but socially, sex before marriage was like a sin, because society was extremely religious. John Donne is attempting to get these thoughts out of her head and persuade her to have sex with him. Metaphysical poets use a lot of elaborate and extended comparisons. They wrote energetic and vigorous poems that went against the common literature of the time. There are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The poet points out that losing her virginity is not a sin. A sin, nor shame, nor loss of maidenhead He tries to reverse her views that both society and herself share. He is very persuasive in this poem and uses the flea many times as a symbol of their sexual union and uses many metaphors. He uses many sly phrases also which could easily win his argument and I feel it is making her feel guilty and starting to make her confused and think about the prospects of them having sex. I think that during the end of the first stanza the poet starts to become quite theatrical. Yet this enjoys it before it woo, And pamper d swells in one blood made of two; And this, alas! Is more than we would do. This could be referring to sex. The flea enjoys the blood and so does the man enjoy foreplay. The pamper d swells could be that of sexual organs before sex and yet, because that is not happening, the flea is having a better time at the moment than he is, by sucking their blood. I think that by using this comparison, John Donne is being very intellectual and at this point I feel he may win his argument. The second stanza, John Donne becomes weaker as the girl starts to defend herself and he tries to convey his love for her. John Donne, in this stanza I feel becomes more intimate and uses alliteration and much more poetic techniques. At the beginning of the second stanza, I would assume that the girl has got up and left him.

  • 6. Positive and Negative Effects of Tourism in Africa The effects of tourism in Africa Ever since the ability to travel over vast amounts of distances around the world became easier with the use of innovative marvels such as the aeroplane, tourism started to grow in certain countries that had enough places of interest. Africa offered much that cannot be seen anywhere else in the world; from the ancient pyramids of Giza to the spectacular wildlife migration in the Serengeti. Tourist from around the world would pay a lot of money to see and be a part of this almost untouched beauty. Thus tourism in Africa started to grow and became one of the most important sources of income for many countries. But the dilemma that we know face is whether tourism offers more benefits to the society to overcome ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Social effects of tourism have an impact on the society of a certain area and focuses on their wellbeing. We live in a world where people must be able to keep with the modern world in order to survive and obtain an income, forcing a loss in certain traditions and culture. But tourism encourages people in rural areas to keep their traditions and embrace their culture. For example, the arts and crafts made by the Ndebele tribe in South Africa as a symbol of their culture can be sold to tourists. Tourists also pay money to be guests of these primitive tribes in Africa. This creates a better understanding and awareness between various kinds of cultures. The negative aspect of tourism on a society is over congestion in certain areas where there is not enough recourses for the people in that area. This mainly affects the life quality of the local population. Prostitution which is an easy source of income may increase in order to satisfy some tourists needs, for example in the 2010 Fifa World Cup hosted in South Africa, prostitution increased during that period of time. Drug and alcohol abuse may also increase the crime in communities. A society may also be harmed when their land are being stripped away in order to build hotels and accommodation for the tourism industry. The largest and most significant negative effect of tourism is its impact on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Ivan Denisovich Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn was best known for his novel, One day in the life of Ivan Denisovich, which explores a day in the life of Ivan Denisovich, who was imprisoned in a Soviet labor camp. Solzhenitsyn, being a previous denizen of a similar camp, effectively conveys the hardships and dilemmas these prisoners faced through the use of dramatic irony and tone. Solzhenitsyn uses irony to reflect his opinion that loyalty to the Soviet regime was futile and had no purpose whatsoever. He uses the tone to express his emotions regarding the unfair imprisonment of the characters through the analepses provided for Tiurin, Senka and Sukhov. Solzhenitsyn skillfully weaves in flashbacks through the thoughts of the characters, the narrator or the stories ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Senka, one of the team 104th quietest members, also suffers the consequences of being loyal to the Soviet regime. Senka served the army during Hitler s attack on the Soviet Union and had suffered on both ends: One of his eardrums had been smashed in 41 and he later had been captured, recaptured and sent to Buchenwald (Solzhenitsyn, 45) where he smuggled in arms to organize a mutiny (Solzhenitsyn, 57). He had tried to escape three times with no avail. The last time he was captured he was punished by tying his wrists behind him, hanging by them and flogging him hard (Solzhenitsyn, 59). When he finally was released back to the Soviet Union, he charged for treason and put into this gulag. Senka, despite enduring so much physical and mental stress to escape and organize a mutiny against the Germans in an effort to stay loyal to his home country, lead him to the Stalinist work camps in the Soviet Union under charges of treason. Here we see Solzhenitsyn using the ironic gap between the character s intention and outcome to once again to condemn any effort to be loyal to the Soviet Union. Senka s flashback is also narrated with a very apologetic tone, best seen when the narrator calls him a luckless fellow (Solzhenitsyn, 45), and describes his painful torture. Solzhenitsyn further adds elements such as Senka s extremely broken spirit to increase reader sympathy: You re lost Senka often says, if you show your pride too much (Solzhenitsyn, 45). This also allows the readers to better connect with Senka s character by feeling very sorry for him. This also helps Solzhenitsyn further demonstrate the drastic, often sad consequences of being loyal to the Soviet ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Portrayal of London in the Opening of Bleak House Essay The first paragraph of Bleak House alone gives the reader an instant idea of how Charles Dickens saw London to be around 1842. He has portrayed the streets to be muddy and extremely polluted, As much mud in the streets as if the waters had but newly retired from the face of the earth. Here Dickens has used a slight amount of Hyperbole to emphasize his point. He also uses personification when referring to the snow flakes, saying that they have gone into mourning, ?smoke lowering down from the chimneypots, making a soft black drizzle, with flakes of soot in it as big as full grown snowflakes? gone into mourning, one might imagine, for the death of the sun.? the contrast of the imagery he is using helps for the reader to imagine the scene, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He also tells the reader that even outside London?s centre fog is still covering everything, ?Fog on the Essex marshes, fog on the Kentish heights. Fog creeping into the cabooses of collier brigs?. Dickens also uses fog to symbolize death and disease, ?Fog in the eyes and throats of ancient Greenwich pensioners, wheezing by the firesides of their wards?. He makes the reader feel as if it is infecting and killing the inhabitants of London, and gives the reader images. In my opinion Dickens is trying to make the point that the fog is spreading and it is London?s fault that one day everywhere will be covered and everyone will be cloaking on the mistakes London made. The reader is given the impression that Dickens thinks that this is all the Governments fault. Right from the beginning the Lord Chancellor is portrayed and lazy, ?Michaelmas term lately over. Lord Chancellor sitting in Lincoln?s Inn Hall.? He then goes on to refer to Lincoln?s Inn Hall as ?at the very heart of the fog? insinuating that the Lord Chancellor is the cause of the fog. He also says, ?Lord High Chancellor ought to be sitting her?as here he is?with a foggy glory round his head, softly fenced in with a crimson cloth and curtains.? Dickens is making the Lord Chancellor out to be very ignorant to the problems of London and just engulfed in his own power. • 11. Fossil Fuels As A Source Of Energy Since the evolution of science, many people have become solely dependent on a variety of technologies to supply their essential needs of life. A key technology that people have a high level of dependency on is fossil fuels. Fossil fuels are a source of energy people use in their everyday life as a way to get light, electricity, and to keep warm. Fossil fuels are perceived as a nuclear energy, which has been around for decades. Initially, scientists perceived this type of energy as affordable and safe; however, in the late 20th century, danger of nuclear plants began to threat regions of United States. Due to the increase of global warning from the burning of fossil fuels, climate scientists and environmental experts are considering ways to replace nuclear energy (Ferguson). Since the world uses fossil fuels as a source of energy supply, it would be beneficial if the world considered using alternatives means of energy sources once all the present energy has been used up. The world would greatly benefit from these alternatives since the production of present energy is polluting America. Yet with the world being greatly overpopulated and having insufficient supplies of resources, scientists all across the nation are thinking of ways to replace fossil fuels with alternative energies. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to explicate alternatives people could use as a source of energy instead of being merely dependent on fossil fuels, and the advantages and disadvantages of ... The Effects of a Healthy Low Calorie Restricted Diet and Aerobic Exercise on Obesity By Robert Jay Yang Masters in Physiology Candidate Literature Research Course (PBIO 907 11), Summer 2014 Capstone Reader: Dr. Patrick Forcelli Introduction The prevalence of obesity continues to increase and remains elevated over the past several decades in the United States (12). Although overweight and obesity are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Body Mass Index (BMI) is a method of measuring obesity by dividing the height of an individual by his or her weight. Although BMI indirectly measures fat in the body, BMI correlates with the amount of body fat and is a convenient measurement. Athletes in particular have a BMI with an obesity measurement due to lean muscle mass, not fat mass. In adults, a BMI within the range of 18.5 and 24.9 is healthy, between 25 and 29.9 is overweight, and above 30 is obese (10, 12). In contrast, weight of children is determined by calculating age and sex specific percentile for the BMI; body composition vary by gender and age. BMI below the 85th percentile is healthy, between 85th and 95th percentile is overweight, and above 95th percentile is obese (12). Other methods to determine obesity is by calculating waist to hip ratio, measuring skinfold thickness, or using ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging. Some treatments to control obesity is by setting goals, committing to lifestyle changes, taking prescriptions, or agreeing to weight loss surgeries. Medicinal and surgical approaches are typically the last options in controlling obesity if lifestyle changes remain ineffective. However, these come with both positive and negative outcomes. • 14. Take Me Out Critique On this critique, I am going to discussed Take Me Out by Richard Greenberg, directed by Andrew Paul and the aspects of it. The play was about a baseball team, however, it addresses the social issues in modern American life such as racial and sexual identity1. In this play, it uses baseball to describe the beauty of democracy. What I am going to discuss on this critique is the set designs, the level of participation, lighting, and the theme of the play. When I entered into the theatre to take a seat, I noticed the stage was set up with showers, lockers, and small baseball field. The showers were placed in the back of the stage, the baseball players lockers were placed on the sides, and there was painted baseball field in the middle of the ... The theme Take Me Out was sexuality or race identity doesn t change the personality of the person or what they do. In the beginning of the play, the players didn t care about sexuality or race because they all loved playing baseball and winning. Also, they used baseball to describe having the freedom to express themselves. Which was true, because sexuality and race is just a part of who we are as a person. How the set designs, level of participation, lighting, and the theme made Take Me Out stands out to me. How the set designs help captures the setting of the story so, the audience can feel they were on an actual baseball field and locker room. The lighting and level of participation help to build up suspense to the story and made the audience wanting to continue every time it left with a cliffhanger. This often leaves it with a reputation as a land full of hope, where anything is possible as long as one is willing to work hard for it. Unfortunately, this idea is not always true. Frederick Douglas, who was born a slave, did not have the privelege of this aforementioned freedom, liberty, and social mobility. Even though he was an exceptionally bright man, he was enslaved and persecuted because of his skin color. By being alloted these rights a person is free to pursue happiness in their life, whatever happiness may be to them. amp;#9;It is very ironic that when Douglass finally got his first taste of freedom he had to be deceptive in sneaking away from his owner, just as the writers of the constution were deceptive in their defintion of quot;man quot;. Once Douglass escaped from slavery he was surprised to find that the north also a very racist place. • 25. Inferential and Descriptive Statistics Before we continue the discussion about the basic descriptive data elements that are needed to answer the question I previously posed, it is important to understand what we mean by descriptive statistics. Descriptive statistics describe the features of the data collected. In other words, descriptive statistics describe what the data looks like, but it does not tell you why or how data elements interact or influence one another. Descriptive statistics provide a defender with summaries about the data collected and these summaries may be either quantitative or visual. Quantitative descriptive statistics are the sum of data points that are usually reported as total numbers or averages in a report. For example, defender offices can use descriptive statistics to determine the total of open felony cases per attorney in one year or say that on average they had x number of open cases in the last two years. These are considered to be summaries of caseloads that describe the data collected but it does not tell you if a certain variable (number of cases opened in this example) has an influence (or is correlated) with the final outcome of a case. When we say that a variable is correlated we mean that the knowledge of a certain variable (caseload numbers) can allow you to consistently predict the action of another (final dispositional outcomes). For example, if you mix two hydrogen and one oxygen (H20), you get water. We know that every time you have the interaction of these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Crazily, mathematics comes naturally to me and is also a huge concept in finance, but finance isn t just numbers, it incorporates various aspects such as communication, problem solving, and creativity. Finance unites my limitless passion for math and joins it with some of my personality traits, which is the best of both worlds. More specifically, in my upbringing, money was tight and my parents always stressed when facing financial issues. My background catalyzed my admiration to the effect the power of money holds when used properly. Finding the best financial effects and awareness of all options to make well informed financial decisions to assist an individual or a company in the most beneficial way seems rewarding and intriguing to me. So, all of these elements have directed me into my interest in Finance. 2. Ideally, successful, inspired, independent, and skilled are just a few ideas that describe my picture perfect image of what I imagine of my life 5 years ahead of today. After I receive my bachelor s degree in Finance I plan to pursue higher education in a Master s program for Finance. I would love to do my Master s at a high profile school ranging from University of Florida to New York University. A vision I ve always had of myself is that I would accomplish to be a business woman that works for a huge ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Arguments Against The Big Bang Theory The earth has been around for billions of years, or has it? Throughout the past few decades, people all over the world have been fighting about the creation of this world we live on. While many scientists agree that the earth is billions of years old and that it was created by a Big Bang, a large number of others are firm in the idea of Creation. This argument strikes a nerve all over the place. Schools are finding that they are not able to express both sides without one side or the other calling foul. This is an argument firmly rooted in religion, more specifically, Christianity. In a way this argument has turned into a war on the conservative Christian population, and has been stereotyped as the argument between Atheists and Christians. Although I have my own beliefs, I am going to lay out the facts, or maybe just the opinions of both sides, because who really knows. A direct clash with the Christian view of an all powerful being, that has no concept of time, creating the universe, the Big Bang theory is one that is probably the most popular, or widely accepted theory. The big bang theory consists of the thought that two atoms, floating around in the vast nothingness we call space, collided and caused a massive explosion that created the universe in the milliseconds following the explosion. This massive explosion pumped out even more protons, neutrons, and electrons, which continued to react with each other, expanding the newly formed universe. On the contrary to the Creationist view, the Big Bang theory does not offer an explanation for the existence of mankind. This is where the closely tied idea of evolution comes ... Wilson Knight states Enobarbus often sees the truth whilst his superiors blunder at cross purposes. His opinions are spoken bluntly and sometimes at inappropriate times and sometimes caustic. He joins in with the crowd both in Rome and Egypt. He first appears in the play with the soothsayer, enjoying the company of Cleopatra s maids showing the audience that he can fit into both geographical parts of the play with ease and confidence. Although he is portrayed as a professional soldier he enjoys pleasure too, Most of our fortunes be drunk to bed he is sociable and humorous and when he sees Cleopatra coming he jokes hush here come Antony. Although he enjoys a drink he is serious when he is needed for military duty and takes the view work before pleasure keeping within the Roman ideas of conduct. Wilson Knight states Enobarbus is the moral centre of the play and through him shows that loyalty and the power of love overshadows common sense and logical reasoning . There are four main functions of Enobarbus within the play. He is used as a chorus for example in commenting on the reconciliation of Antony and Caesar and Antony s marriage to Octavia. Traditionally Shakespeare would use the chorus role as more of a secondary character to give the audience an insight into what they should expect throughout the play and create picture like images so that the audience can appreciate the scenes. ... • 43. Elaboration Of Instant Coffee And The Extraction Process... Elaboration of instant coffee. The extraction process is one of the most important stages in the production of instant coffee. The extraction is usually done on roasted and crushed beans, using water as the extractive fluid, obtaining a final solution that contains around 25 to 30% of solids. The solution is then taken to an atomizer, which yields instant coffee grains as a final product. Coffee extraction is carried out in equipment especially designed for this process, consisting of extractors that work under countercurrent, multistage systems, and fixed beds. The solid recently charged is extracted with water at 100°C and, as the process continues, the temperature of the water is increased. High temperatures favor the hydrolysis of insoluble carbohydrates, which in this way become soluble, increasing the soluble solids content in the final solution. However, very high temperatures can hydrolyze substances that may confer undesirable aromas and flavors to the extract. FIGURE 21.17 Soxhlet extractor. • 44. Todd Willingham s Conviction Process Todd Willingham s Conviction Process One day Cameron Todd Willingham woke up to his house on fire and was lucky enough to escape, but sadly his three children were left behind and did not survive. After the horrific incident, Willingham was prosecuted and received the death sentence for starting a fire with the intention to kill his children. Before the prosecution, an investigation developed that involved professionals and eyewitness testimonies that concluded Willingham as guilty. Unfortunately, there were many flaws during the process of the investigation. The investigation had weak evidence with no scientific background, some prosecutors appeared bias, and the prosecution relied too much on eyewitness. The criminal justice system had many flaws when it came down to Willinghams prosecution and I blame the people involved in the system. After the tragic fire, two fire investigators arrived at the scene to determine what caused the blaze. The investigation was considered very professional, since they did have the right kind of professionals and experts at the moment. One of the investigators was named Douglas Fogg, he was at the time considered as an arson investigator, due to his twenty year experience. Although, one thing I knew that was a little suspicious was the way he investigated the fire and according to Fogg, You learn that fire talks to you (Grann, para 12). Since Fogg has had a long experience, he believed that, that is enough skill or education to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. The World And Empires By Anthony Pagden Peoples and Empires Throughout history there have been a multitude of different empires to rise up and conquer land, along with the people inhabiting that land. More often than not, these empires fell. Whether the empire was quickly abolished, or it maintained power for decades, most of them were over thrown. Anthony Pagden, who at the time of publication was a history professor at John Hopkins, wrote the book Peoples and Empires in 2003 to explain the history of the once Great European Empires . These empires included, but are not limited to, the French, the Spanish, the British, and the Roman Empire. One major idea of the content focuses on how these particular empires justified their conquering, not only to themselves, but also to their followers and the people who rebelled against them. Conquerors would travel to the ends of the earth in order to obtain more land which in turn is more power. However, in order to do this they had to justify their actions to the individuals occupying that land. In doing so, they fabricated what they assumed were acceptable reasons as to why an empire was more luxurious, or in other words better , than the systems they had in place before. The most common ideology between all of the empires was the simple idea of being civilized versus being barbaric or savage . Pagden thoroughly explains how the empires used this ideology and coupled it with small force to justify their actions and the overall concept of an empire: They ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Examples Of Overcoming Strengths In Life The struggle you re in today is developing the strength you need for tomorrow Robert Tew. Success is getting to a good place in life, despite past obstacles. We all have a chance to be successful even though there are hardships that we may experience along the way. In the book, A Child Called It, the Netflix TV series Shameless, and the biopic All Eyez on Me each depict the lives of individuals who overcome obstacles in life. My favorite works of art, feature characters that have struggled to overcome obstacles in order to gain success. My favorite book, A Child Called It, is about a boy who was physically, verbally and mentally abused by his mother. David s mother struggles to treat her son with love, and respect. First, David was physically abused by his mom. For example, David s mother would beat him, and make him eat his brothers feces. As a child, David felt worthless, and he wanted his mother s love, but instead he was beaten and threatened as if he was less than human. Next, David endured verbal abuse from his mother; throughout the book there are many instances were David s mother would curse, and call him terrible names. Lastly, David had to deal with psychological torture from his mother. David suffered from the emotional scars that his mother left behind. He never felt what it was like to be loved by a parent, David only knew what it was like to be hurt by one. The mental abuse that David endured will forever impact his life, but his situation made him a stronger person. David has turned the abuse he experienced as a child in books to share his story. Shameless, my favorite TV series, is filmed on the Southside of Chicago. It features a dysfunctional family with everyday struggles, such as problems with friendships, and financially. First, Shameless demonstrates the complexity of relationships. For example, one of the main characters Fiona has had many boyfriends. She hasn t found the right man yet, but from what she has experienced with men she has grown mentally through the series. Each character in Shameless has been through there fair share of tests with friendships and relationships. But, the characters find a way to overcome their issue. Next, the characters struggle to become ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This company sells a large merchandise line of dietary supplements and workout enhancing products appealing to males ages 16 40. Starring in this ad is their Gold LA Whey Protein. With the sophisticated text, colors, and images, this ad hits Men s Health readers with intimidation, current trends, and image coaxing them into purchasing their over priced, no guarantee product. First off, LA Muscle immediately grabs the readers attention by rhetorically asking, Protein is protein, right? WRONG. This statement is meant to make readers question whether or not the protein they currently use compares to the one that is being marketed to them. The word WRONG is boldly printed, to intimidate readers and make them second guess themselves for thinking all protein is the same. The strong emphasis on this word quickly grabs the readers attention. Even those readers who have done their research about their supplements may be swayed into thinking that their opinion on the most beneficial protein could not be correct. This tactic works ...
