The significance of the Common Man in A Man For All Seasons.
==============================================================
I have decided to explore how Bolt uses the Common Man to emphasise the features of the major
characters and to illustrate the main themes of the play. I will also explore the role the common man
plays in the structure of the play and his effect on the audience.
The Common Man is the only character who speaks directly to the audience, which I think is
important as it means they can feel part of the play: there is interaction between the audience and
actors. This communication may increase the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Common Man s comments on the characters may also raise moral issues amongst the
audience. For example, the Common Man remarks on More s wilful indifference to realities. In
one sense the audience may agree with this as they may feel More does not take a very realistic
approach to government. This is illustrated in scene two, when More and Wosley are discussing
the divorce, they may feel that Thomas s ideal to govern the country by prayer is not very
practical. Wosley: you d like that wouldn t you? To govern the country by prayer? More: Yes I
should
However, others may disagree with the Common Man and think that More is realistic in judgement.
For example, he ensures his family does not know any information they could be asked about in
court, to make sure they stay out of danger. Therefore the common man is significant in the sense
that his commentary has an effect on the audience: his judgements may cause the audience to ask
themselves if Thomas More deserves the title A Man For All Seasons?
Because this play deals with events that actually occurred (eg: the reformation of the church) and
people who actually lived, the common man plays a significant role in telling us the real events of
the time, which relate to the plot. For example, in Act

Hamlet s Soliloquy in Branagh s Adaptation
In contrast to previous film adaptations of Shakespeare that have appeared mostly as filmed stage
productions, Kenneth Branagh approaches his Shakespeare films in a style more reminiscent of
big budget Hollywood movies (Crowl 26). For his 1996 Hamlet adaptation, Branagh chose a very
different style from the predominantly dark and moody medieval settings of previous stage and
film productions. Crowl describes the film as a bright, bold mirror in stunning contrast to Olivier
s dark impressionist maze. (28). Moving the time period forward to the Victorian era, Branagh s
Elsinore Castle is a dazzling portrait of bright colours and elegant finery, a ... Show more content on

Computers And Its Impact On Modern Society Essay
Computers
In between 1943 and 1946, ENIAC was designed by John Mauchly and J. Presper Eckert at
University of Pennsylvania, U.S. ENIAC was a modular computer, collected of separate panels
to perform different functions. Twenty of these parts were accumulators, which could not only
add and subtract but hold a ten digit decimal number in memory. Numbers were passed between
these units across several general purpose buses. In order to achieve its high speed, the panels had
to send and receive numbers, save the answer and produce the next operation, all without any
moving parts. Key to its usefulness was the ability to branch; it could produce different operations,
depending on the sign of a computed result. ENIAC contained 17,468 vacuum tubes, 7200 crystal
diodes, 1500 relays, 70,000 resistors, 10,000 capacitors and about 5,000,000 hand soldered joints.
It weighed more than 30 tons, was roughly 2.4m Г— 0.9m Г— 30m in size, and consumed 150 kW
of electricity. This power requirement led to the rumour that whenever the computer was switched
on, lights in Philadelphia dimmed.

Guns Germs And Steel Chapter Summary Of Blood Diamond
In this chapter, Diamond examines if humans on one continent had an advantage over others by
examining the evolution and spread of humans to other continents. Diamond first examines human
origin around 7 million years ago when a population of African apes evolved into some of the
earliest humans. This evolutionary process occurred and remained in Africauntil around 1.5 million
years ago when Homo erectus spread beyond Africa. By about .5 million years ago, human
populations had differentiated with Neanderthals in Europe, relatively modern structured humans in
Africa, and humans different from both in East Asia. It wasn t until 50,000 years ago when
biologically and behaviorally modern humans ,the Cro Magnons , appeared did humans advanced

The Importance of Men and Women Spies in the American Civil War
The American Civil War started because the North and the South disagreed on the main issue of
slavery and lasted for four years. They could not agree whether to prohibit slavery in territories that
had not become states yet. After the election of Abraham Lincoln in 1860, the Southern states had a
major conflict with Lincoln becoming president and seven slave states succeeded from the Union
and made the Confederate States of America. The Union refused to recognize the southern states in
that way. Lincoln declared these acts to be illegal and asked Congress for 500,000 soldiers to

Woman were easily trusted and were looked at as non threatening. Men dominated the Civil War.
Women were not as praised as men to fight the war and because of that it helped women become
undetected as spies. Men would go to dinner parties at women s houses and the women would
secretly gather information and hid it in their hoop skirts. When giving messages to their side,
some spies would code them or write in invisible ink, using letters and numbers. The messages
usually contained enemy plans and movements, their supplies, troop size, and where their forts
were. Messages and contraband were usually hid in their clothing or large metal buttons. Medical
supplies were one of the most important things to smuggle over enemy lines. The Confederate
hospitals were in dire need of supplies. Emeline Pigott was a Confederate spy from North
Carolina who gathered military information by entertaining Union officials at dinner parties in her
own home. She hid critical papers and smuggled, ammunition and medicine in the crease of her
bulky skirts, which she later gave to the local rebels. She strived to help the Confederate cause.
When the love of her life died, she went home to grieve but found out the Yankees were occupying
the whole area. That was when she gathered more intelligence about the Northern blockade ships in

Analysis Of Lucky By Alice Sebold
Summary
Lucky by Alice Sebold s is a memoir in which she speaks about her traumatic experience that she
went through during her freshman year at Syracuse University in New York. Alice was beaten
and raped one night when she was walking alone back to her dorm. A black male grabbed her
from behind with a knife and told her that he would kill her if she screamed. The black male took
Alice into a tunnel where he beat her up and forced her to perform oral sex on him. Alice was still
a virgin prior to the rape. After the black male raped Alice, he showed feelings of remorse, he
helped Alice put her clothes back on. Alice lied and told him that it was okay and that she
forgave him. Alice reports the incident to the police and the officer tells Alice that she should
consider herself lucky because a girl had been killed in the same place where she was raped. The
rape took a toll on Alice because she seemed to pretend like it was okay when it was not. She
started seeing everything differently, every black male she came across she would be reminded
of her rapist. Alice also experienced trouble in relationships with men because she did not
consider herself to be worthy of any good guy because no guy would want her since she was a rape
victim. Alice expressed anger towards her rapist when she runs into him again one afternoon and
he approaches her and says that she looked familiar. Alice speaks about wanting to kill her rapist.
Alice s rapist is taken into custody and they have a

Christopher Clombus Is Not A Hero Essay
Introduction
In 1492 Columbus sailed the ocean blue. That s the one date everyone remembers, the date in
virtually every school child s history textbook. But, they leave out pretty much everything about
Columbus and his exploration of the New World. It s the part many people have yet to learn
about. For years, Columbus has been presented to us as a hero. In 1934, President Roosevelt even
gave Columbus his own holiday. To this day, we celebrate his discovery of America. What is found
in history textbooks now, have seemed to show another side of Christopher Columbus, a side that
they wouldn t dare teach in elementary school. It s the rest of Columbus tale of discovery . This
paper will show you that Christopher Columbus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Indians taught them how to grow food and use the land to survive. Columbus and his men
would trade a lot with the Indians and they all lived happily ever after. That s pretty much where
our textbook stopped. I have never learned anything else about Columbus until now. There is so
much that my third grade teacher left out and didn t explain.
REASONS FOR HIM NOT BEEN A HERO Columbus gets a lot of credit for discovering land
that already had people living on it, a land that has already been encountered by other people
way before Columbus was even born. In 70,000 to 12,000 B.C. Siberia explorers sailed to
Alaska. In 10,000 600 B.C., Siberians also went to Canada and the state we now call New
Mexico. A little more recently the Vikings in 1000 1350 came from Greenland and Iceland. They
traveled to Labrado, Baffin Land, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Cape Cod and further south.
Around 1311 and 1460 explorers from West Africa came across to Haiti, Panama, and Brazil
(Loewen 48). These were only a few of the many encounters of the Americas. A result of these
explorations was the establishment of Indian villages and the life they began to lead.
The fact that Columbus didn t actually discover America isn t the idea that is most disturbing when
considering misleading history that children are taught. It is the information that was kept from us
while younger that now should be revealed, since we are at the age that we can comprehend and

Pkkia Genetic Disorder
PKU, also known as Phenylketonuria, is a genetic disorder that builds up the amino acid
phenylalanine in the human body. This genetic disorder is known to be an example of the norm of
reaction. The norm of reaction defines itself as a phenotype range that a person with a certain
genotype reveals due to the differing of a certain environmental condition. Since this genetic
mutation targeted the genethat encrypts the enzyme phenylalanine hydroxylase, it shows that if a
person has one and/or two copies of that certain gene, that person would have the ability to eat and
metabolize foods with phenylalanine. But, if a person has two copies of the mutated gene, they
wouldn t be able to eat nor metabolize foods with phenylalanine because if a person with PKU
were to ingest foods with phenylalanine, the amino acid will accumulate in their body and become
highly toxic to the person and the PKU homozygotes will lead to an assortment of detrimental
symptoms, which currently occurs in about 1 in 10,000 babies.... Show more content on

With this in mind, many people who suffer with PKU use many low protein, dairy free, fruits and
vegetables products to maintain their health and even stated that PKU isn t just a diet thing. It s a
brain thing. Since all 50 states and territories of the United States require the screening of PKU, it
is normally tested right after the baby is born. By taking a few drops of blood from the heel of the
baby, the sample will be sent to a laboratory to test the amount of phenylalanine in the sample.
Since PKU is also known as a genetic disorder, many health care providers also suggested the idea
of genetic testing so it can into detail about the mutations in the genes that will cause

I learned was that Leigh Jay s wife was the most knowledge on the OHSA policies but evidently
the information did not get disseminated to Kris. Lack of knowledge of right policy and
procedures could result in a company s success or failure in regards to a business being in
compliance with State or Federal Laws (Lester Parnell, 2006). Before large state hospitals or

Bobby Orr Influence On Hockey
Another one of the most influential hockey players of all time is Bobby Orr. Orr was born in 1948
in Parry Sound, Canada (Orr). Bucko McDonald, a former NHL defenseman in the 30 s and 40 s,
coached the young Bobby. He believed he could be a great defenseman with lots of speed and high
stick skills as well. This turned out to be one of the beet moves for Bobby s career, as Orr played
ten seasons in the NHL. He played nine years with the Bruins, and his final year in Chicago. He
wished to play longer if it wasn t for his knees giving out on him, as he injured them both early in
his NHL career. Nevertheless, Orr was arguably called the greatest defenseman of all time for what
he did in both sides of the ice. first off, Bobby Orr showed that he is one of the most influential
hockey players in the NHL from his career statistics and records. He came into his own two years

Orr radically altered the style of hockey by introducing defensemen to the offensive side of the
game. A defenseman who scored goals, rushed the puck up ice, set up teammates with pinpoint

nature of hockey. A new style of play, an offensive minded defenseman. He could go coast to
coast in the rink and score, maneuvering through the whole other team. This was not the only
way Orr impacted on the game, scoring one of the best goals of all time to win the Stanley Cup.
Orr literally went flying as he scored the game winning goal for the Bruins, a goal to be
remembered forever. A statue made of him soaring in the air outside of TD Garden, never to be

A Review of Psycho Essay
A Review of Psycho
He was known to his audience as the Master of Suspense and what Hitchcock mastered was not
only the art of making films but also the task of taming his own mad imagination Hitchcock told
his stories through intelligent plots, witty dialogue and a spoonful of mystery and murder. In
doing so, he inspired a new generation of filmmakers and revolutionized the thriller genre, making
him a worldwide legend. His brilliance was sometimes too bright: He was hated as well as loved,
oversimplified as well as over analyzed. Hitchcock was eccentric, demanding, inventive,
impassioned and he had a great sense of British humour.

Are There Too Many Pressures And Expectations On Teens...
Mrs. Roczniak ENG 4C Monday, December 4, 2017 Option #2 Are there too many pressures and
expectations on teens today to conform and act a certain way? Teens are under more stress and
have higher expectations than ever before. It s a well known fact that being a teen is hard and
accompanies its own arrangement of troubles. Teens are expected to do extremely well in school
and to have an idea on what they want to do after school. Teens want to feel like they are
welcomed and wanted from their peers and they will do anything to fit in. Teenagers are also
expected to teach themselves in school and in life. Teens have more stress and expectations on
them than every before. Teenagers are required at an early stage to do everything right and to
have their lives arranged out, teens are expected to know what they want to do after school
where they want to work. For an example, in the breakfast club, Brian is pressured to have the
best grades and to already have his life together. When he was on his way into detention his
mother said, well mister you figure out a way to study (Hughes, 1985) even though he couldn t. At
school there is a scope of scholastic weights teens feel, from requirement for flawless grades. Teens
must do well since it is expected that all teens must go to the best school in the event that they need
to succeed and that puts on a huge amount of weight on

Queen Elizabeth In The Renaissance Era
Throughout the Renaissance Era there have been stories of kings, knights and heroic heroes, but
hardly ever does one hear about a Queen making history. Queen Elizabeth I, was a queen who one
does not really talk about or know any stories of her, but there is so much to know about her.
Queen Elizabeth s life growing up, accomplishments as queen, and her later years are something
everyone should know about its history. Queen Elizabeth s life growing up had some difficult
circumstances, but this had no effect over her ruling. She was able to maintain peace in a country,
which was divided previously.
Queen Elizabeth was born on September 7, 1533 ( Queen Elizabeth I 1). King Henry VIII was her
father and Anne Boleyn was her mother, wich was her father s second wife (3). At the age of only
two years old, her mother was killed by her father over accusations of committing adultery and
conspiracy (3). King Henry VIII died in 1547, Elizabeth was taken into care by her stepmother
Catherine Parr (3). Tension between Elizabeth and her stepfather, Thomas Seymour started to
occur, Elizabeth returned to Hatfield, the royal estate, away from the court (3). The relationship
between the two never subsided and Elizabeth had him executed for conspiring to marry her to
gain power (3). Elizabeth had an older half sister, Mary Tudor and a half brother Edward Tudor

occurring.
Ultimately, the maturation of the corporate bond market depends upon three key factors: underlying
demand of investors; potential supply by corporate issuers; regulatory and other impediments to
connecting investors and issuers.

While there have been significant developments in the regulatory sphere to assist the development
of the retail corporate bond market, there remains some ambiguity about the treatment of SMSFs
and their trustees as sophisticated investors, and their consequent ability to participate in wholesale
market offerings. This ambiguity warrants resolution given the increasing importance of that sector
and the increasing relevance of fixed interest investments for funds with ageing members.

The Argumensos Of Mario Savio s Free Speech Movement
On December 2nd, 1964, Mario Savio delivered his most famous speech on the steps of Sproul
Hall on the campus of UC Berkeley. His address, most famously known for it s passage on The
Operation of the Machine , called university students and TAs to participate in civil disobedience in
order to disrupt parts of the university s functioning. This effort was to show the administration that
the students were autonomous human beings, and not raw material to be bought by some client of
the University. The conflict between the administration and the students began with the banning of
the designated free speech area on campus. Students began to move closer to the heart of campus in
protest, setting up tables for organizations like FSM (the Free Speech Movement) in Sproul Plaza.
These actions resulted in the indefinite suspensions of Mario Savioand seven other students. In an
incident in which student protesters surrounded a police car and gave speeches atop it, the
President of the university, Clark Kerr, began negotiations with Savio and the students.
However, Kerr shot down the FSM s proposal for a committee, and tensions between the FSM
and the administration increased over the next month. FSM began to have rallies on the steps
of Sproul Hall every day at noon in order to put pressure on the administration to grant them their
terms on the return of free speech areas. On December 2nd at one of these rallies, Mario Savio
delivered his speech. The most memorable lines were as follows: There is a time when the
operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart, that you can t take
part; you can t even passively take part, and you ve got to put your bodies upon the gears and
upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus and you ve got to make it stop! And you
ve got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it, that unless you re free, the
machine will be prevented from working at all! (2). The appeal to pathos in this passage, and
throughout the whole speech, is Savio s referring to himself and the other students as part of a
machine that they don t intend to be a part of. They are treated unfairly by the administration, the
machine , and are

Nt1310 Unit 3 Assignment Effect
Semiconductor Nano crystals or quantum dots are materials that are typically 2 20 nm in diameter,
consisting of approximately twelve to fourteen thousand atoms. The effect of quantum confinement
results, in the electrons and holes in the Nano crystal to exhibit quantized energy states; thus
enabling them to exhibit novel physical properties that are not found in their bulk counterparts.
Research in semiconductorquantum dots started with the realization that the optical and electronic
properties of these particles were strongly dependent on particle size, due to quantum confinement
of the charge carriers in small spaces.
1.2 Quantum Confinement Effect
This concept can be explained using the term band gap, a property that is characteristic of
semiconductors. The band gap can be defined as the difference in energy between the valence and
conduction band and is typically in the range of 1 3 eV for semiconductors. In bulk materials the
energy bands are a continuum of energy levels arising from the overlapping of the atomic orbital s
due to the large number of molecules. When a semiconductor is brought to the Nano scale,
containing lesser number of molecules, the quantized energy levels become distinct. Thus the
addition or removal of atoms significantly changes the energy levels within the band making the
band gap size dependent. Figure 1: A Schematic diagram of the energy... Show more content on

The figure depicts the excitation of an electron into the conduction band thus leaving a hole in the
valence band. An electron hole pair is called an exciton, and the natural physical separation between
them is called the excitonic Bohr radius and is characteristic of each material. Thus when a

be confined within the particle and is called quantum

7 Task 1 Types of network LAN stands for Local Area Network. LAN is a type of network that
interconnects computers and devices either wired or wireless and covers a greater distance.
LAN is mainly used in private organisations such as college or university. More or less everyone
uses wireless router at home these days and the user is able to connect between 5 10 devices
wirelessly. The user can share the broadband or the connection with ADSL by using Ethernet
cables. Smaller LANs can connect at least 2 3 computers using one cable. It also depends on the
size of the organisation. Smaller LANs are easier to manage. The users need to be careful when
using larger LANs and need to make sure that the network within it is transmitted efficiently. The
user can increase the number of computers connected by using routers and switches. This ensures
that the network administrator has higher level of control over the network. IEEE 802.3 is the
wired Ethernet used by LAN and therefore it is related to LAN. The set up cost for LAN is
relatively cheap. WAN stands for Wide Area Network. It is a type of network that interconnects
the LANs meaning it connects the LANs together over large distance. WAN is used in school or

It seems as if this was intentionally done to draw more male attention to the game. In my opinion,

Summary Of Conversation With Daniel Migliore s The...
3.In conversation with Daniel Migliore give an account of what it means to confess that God is
triune. Give care to an explication of economic and immanent trinity, and perichoresis.
In order to explain what it means to confess that God is triune, Migliore explains the origin of our
confession as well as the implications of a God who is three in one. In the following essay, I will
give an account of Migliore s description of how and why we confess the trinity before describing
the three interpretive statements Migliore offers to us in an attempt to explain the triune God in
depth.
Migliore defines the Christian confession of God as triune as a summary description of the witness
of Scripture to God s unfathomable love incarnate in Jesus Christ and experienced and celebrated
in the community of faith (Migliore 67). He is quick to explain that the doctrine of the Trinity is
not a revealed doctrine...[because it] did not descend miraculously from heaven, nor was it
written by God on tablets of stone ; rather it is the product of the meditation and reflection of the
church on the gospel message over many centuries (67). That said, Migliore believes that a
confession of the triune God has both a biblical and experiential basis. He states if talk of the
triune God is not to be wild speculation, it will always find its basis and its limit both in the
biblical narrative of God that comes to the world through Jesus Christ in the power of the Holy
Spirit and in the actual

Simon Wheeler s storytelling ability fits perfectly into the tavern culture of the mid 1800 s. In

readers through first hand accounts of Simon Wheeler s story. Wheeler, a taverner, tells a tedious
story about a gambling man named Jim Smiley and the many animals he places bets on. From the
story, we can infer that Simon Wheeler s traits represent the stereotypical country lifestyle. The
country lifestyle is exuded in Simon s traits of being friendly, good hearted, uneducated, and

Personal Statement On Personal Finance
Knowledge about personal finance is not always common knowledge and although money
touches most modern homes, most parents don t teach their kids about money either. It can be
hard to find time in a busy schedule to figure out when and how to adjust your time to set up a
proper budget so instead you just decide to live pay check to paycheck because it got your
parents by and now it gets you by and that has just always worked. One day you have to grow up
and realize that those consequences of being financially stupid will come back to haunt you.
Introduction
The biggest issue that individuals have with their personal income is the lack of understanding
where and how to control their spending habits and sometimes when to pay bills. This causes a
great deal of anxiety, stress, depression, unkempt hygiene and possibly even losing the very job
that is keeping their income flowing in to start with. With couples, the number one cause of
relationship issues that are brought in front of a therapist and the number one cause of divorce
just so happens to be financially related. The hardest yet most important thing to do when it
comes to your finances, it to stop getting overwhelmed and take control back of your money and
your life. Most people don t know where to start when it comes to taking control of their finances.
When I think of the short term aspect of personal finances, I think of the here the now and the

The article addresses the gender role inequality in pursuing leadership positions, trough out our

Most importantly I would like to discuss the current gender inequality situation in the world. We
all know the good old saying if you do not include women in your daily activity 50% of your
populations intellectual wealth is eliminated . Although this is a common understanding amongst
all in modern society yet it lacks the practical application. There are ample research articles that
outline the wage and leadership inequality amongst genders but there are no concrete articles or
suggestions how eliminate gender bias. The research findings reveal general idea of what can be
done to solve the leadership gender inequality by suggesting activities for women to engage that

How Did Japan Dominate East Asia
Japan, located off the coast of East Asia, was a major country that fought during the Second World
War. During this time, Japan had an dictatorship government and had its sights on imperialistic
ideas. On December 7, 1941, Japanese airplanes flew over Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, the United States
base of its navy, where the Pacific fleet and airfields were stationed. Bombs were dropped on the
island in Hawaii, causing mass destruction and high death tolls. With this, isolation and neutrality
were not an option, and the United Statesbecame deeply embroiled in World War II after declaring

According to Pearl Harbor and the Coming of the Pacific War, the Japanese completed its
control in Manchuria in 1932, then invaded China five years later. In the map created by various
sources, the Japanese empire more than tripled its size after expansion through Manchuria in
China. Japan established Manchuria as a puppet state, and held it as a reservoir for food
resources, or a paddy field. To support a larger empire, its growing military, and an increase in
naval power, the Japanese needed more and more oil. Unfortunately, Japan only owned a few oil
reserves and produced very little of its own oil. They bought most of their oil from the United
States. In fact, according to Suzuki Akira, US Economic Sanctions Against Japan and its Aid to
China during the Sino Japanese War , 80 percent of Japan s 12,170,000 tons of oil was imported
from the United States from 1937 1939. However, after tensions mounted between the United
States and Japan, the amount of oil exported from US to Japan decreased dramatically, from
2,910,000 tons in 1940 to 880,000 tons in 1941, a 330 percent decrease in oil imports from the
US. Tensions continued rising when Japan announced that they will establish new order , or the
Japanese Empire in East Asia. The US showed their disprovement by declaring an embargo of
aircraft and aircraft parts (Iriye 1999) in 1939, and a complete oil embargo in 1941, a resource the
Japanese depended on the most. Fortunately for the Japanese, there were an abundant amount of oil
fields south of Japan, in the Philippines, East Indies, and New Guinea, however, were all occupied
by the European nations and the United States. The Japanese declared that the ... old order ...

Revolutionary Artillery in the Revolutionary War Essay
In 1775, thirteen colonies began a fight for their independence from Britain s rule. Without formal
training in artillery tactics or a proper armament of artillery pieces, early units had to overcome
adversity and hardship. But with courage and dedication the artillery and its leadership were able to
play a vital role in the success on the battlefields, and ultimately the victory resulting in America
earning its freedom.
During the Revolutionary War, the Artilleryassets that were available were a combination of
cannons, mortars and howitzers. There were two types of cannons used at this time. The Field
Guns, which were lightweight and easier to move, and the Siege Guns, which were much heavier
and less mobile. The cannons utilized ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The howitzer was originally designed with a short barrel and large caliber resulting in the charge
to be smaller so as not to add too much stress to the round inside. This meant that the howitzer was
primarily a short range weapon system. The estimated ranges of the artillery pieces are as follows,
the cannon fired with a maximum range of 2,000 yards and an effective range of 1,000 yards. The
mortar fired at a maximum range of 1,400 yards with an effective range of 750 yards and the
howitzer fired at a maximum range of 1,300 yards and an effective range of 750 yards.
Henry Knox played a pivotal role in the development of early artillery, from the acquiring cannons
to leading the regiment in battle his impact was unquestionably profound. One of his first exploits
with artillery was during the Battle of Bunker Hill, where he directed the rebel cannon fire onto
enemy formations. After Bunker Hill, Knox was aspiring to take command of the Continental
Artillery from Richard Gridley, however the process was slow due to the fact that Knox did not
have a commission in the Continental Army. John Adams worked with the Second Continental
Congress to acquire a commission for Knox as Colonel of the artillery regiment. Knox soon
received his next mission from General Washington, even before his commission had arrived. The
Army had recently captured over 50 tons of armaments after

The United Kingdom s National Health Service Essay
For any successful organization, there should be effective communication, culture, decision

National Health Service is an organization that primarily helps citizens be in charge of their
health care. The group started with the principles that quality healthcare should be available to
all regardless of their social status, in this event, easy access to health care. NHS has over 64

with other organizations such as Wal Mart, McDonalds, and U.S Department of Defense. The
NHS is wholly funded by taxpayer s money that means that a majority of the public is often

aspects of an organization and specifically the NHS. These aspects are organizational
communication, organizational culture, management and leadership as well as organizational
change. The second part of the paper is the background that will provide an organizational
overview of the key strengths and the challenges faced by NHS. Moreover, the paper also contains

How Did Elizabeth Pinncney Influence The Economy
Elizabeth Pinckney is perhaps one of the most influential people when it comes to agriculture in
the early U.S. as she established indigo as a new cash crop, first for South Carolina, then the rest
of the South. Her discovery and the tests that she conducted in botany helped the agricultural
economy in the South grow and soon flourish. Eliza Lucas was born in Antigua in the West
Indies in 1722 and was the eldest child of Lt. Colonel George Lucas and Ann Lucas. She had 3
other siblings; her brothers, Thomas and George, and her sister Mary. Eliza was in no way born
in poverty as her family was well set, owning 3 sugarcane plantations. She grew up on one of
these plantations and lived an average life like everyone else and was soon, along with the rest of

Criticism Of Andrew Clark An American Politician From The...
I am sure you would agree with me when I say we cannot escape the inevitability
(in ev i ta bility) of criticism. Aristotle once said, Criticism is something we can avoid easily by
saying nothing, doing nothing, and being nothing. But I beg to disagree because people will
criticize you for saying nothing, doing nothing and being nothing. Someone once said, Criticism is
the muck in which the plants of the Lord grow strong and no child of God should fear Criticism.
Criticism has the potential to help believers in their spiritual growth? Listen to what Frank Clark an
American politician from the early 1900s said, Criticism, like rain, should be gentle enough to
nourish a man s growth without destroying his roots.
Criticism comes in two forms, destructive and constructive. They are both self explanatory.
Nevertheless, destructive criticism has the potential for spiritual growth but that would depend on
the receiver. Destructive criticism can make us look inwardly ask the deep question, is it true of
me. If the criticism levied is true, then do what needs to be done to correct it. If the criticism is
malicious then ignore it and make sure you do not give your critics ammunition to prove their point.
I would admit that criticism is not always easy to handle. People can be crude but always
remember we are not responsible for the actions of others. We will only answer to God for our
actions. The gospel is bigger than our feelings and has serious implications for mankind. So

Leadership Styles And Philosophies Of Leadership Essay
Leadership and You Leaders play a crucial role in the society and organizations, especially with
regards to helping the organization achieve its objectives and purposes. These individuals use
varying approaches to leadership that inform their practices in motivating organizational members
towards the accomplishment of common objectives. Through their practices, leaders not only
influence the behaviors of their followers or subordinates but also help in shaping organizational
culture. The use of different leadershipstyles and philosophies is also attributed to the difference in
concept and practices of the leader. Moreover, leaders can improve their effectiveness through
adopting strategies that address the weaknesses of their leadership approaches since every
leadership style or approach has certain weaknesses.
Definition of Leadership Leadership is a term or concept that means different things to different
people depending on the context of where the leadership practice takes place. As a result, different
people have different definitions of what leadership is, which generates considerable problems in
attempts to effectively define leadership. From a personal perspective, leadership is a means for
talented individuals to influence others towards common objectives through sharing their
knowledge and perspectives (Mielach, 2013). This is probably the most suitable definition of
leadership given that the basis of leadership is to influence others regardless of

While this is happening a crankcase compression is happening beneath the piston. The two
stroke engine fires on every circle of the piston. Because of this they are more powerful than the
four stroke engine of equivalent size. Two stroke engines also have lighter and simpler
construction. These two reasons are, why they are used in motorcycles chain saws, line
trimmers and outboard motors. Sadly two stroke engines cause a lot of pollution because some
of exhaust gasses are expelled from the exhaust part of the cycle. The four stroke engines are
used in lawn mowers, garden tractors, tillers, and washers. There is more than one type of four
stroke engines. They are the horizontal camshaft, side valve engine and the vertical camshaft, side
valve engine. Both of these types use four cycles four cycles in one full cycle. four stroke engine
The four stroke engine is the now the most popular engine for cars. The first thing that happens is
that the intake piston moves down drawing in a fresh charge fuel and air mixture into the cylinder.
As the piston rises the intake valve is forced shut by increased cylinder pressure. As the piston rises,
the intake valve is forced shut by the increased cylinder pressure. Flywheel momentum drives the
piston upward, compressing the fuel and air mixture. At the top of the compression stroke, the spark
plug fires, igniting the compressed fuel. As the fuel burns it expands driving the piston down. When

Social Networks, Spirituality, And Physical Activity
Dan Buettner s (2009) claim that Blue Zones can be found in the world where there is a history of
people living a longer life than normal influenced by lifestyle choices such as diet, social networks,
spirituality, and physical activity is questionable. A few of these blue zones that
Buettner (2009) researched are Sardinia, Okinawa, and The Seventh Day Adventists in Loma
Linda, California. These communities are located in different parts of the world and have very
different lifestyles, and yet the community members seem to have a longer lifespan than most.
Studying the way that the people of these communities live their lives daily has given us a better
understanding of Buettner s views.

Priority 1 ADA Review Paper
When evaluating the Hub at Columbia, I came to the conclusion that all of the Priority 1 ADA
regulations are met. There is a route of travel that does not require any use of stairs. The route of
travel is also stable, firm, and slip resistant. The entrance into the building is also a large, 20 foot
wide, open area that is accessible for people with a variety of different needs. Upon entering the
building, people are able to walk to a large elevator lobby and get on an elevator, which is also
easily accessible for people both in a wheel chair and with crutches. There are no objects protruding
into the path that could be hazardous to someone with a visual disabilityeither. The entrance into the

The floors in the entryway are all hardwood floors, so carpeting that is too high is not an issue
either. The door handle to the building is 37 Вѕ inches high, so it can be reached even from a lower
level. The door in the main entrance is easily opened, but I did notice one way that could make
entering the building a little difficult for someone who is in a wheelchair or cannot move very
quickly. In order to unlock the main door, an electronic key fob needs to be scanned on a
scanner. The scanner is inconveniently located too far away for a person to remain in the same
place to scan their key fob and open the door at the same time. Since the scanner only unlocks
the door momentarily, the door would most likely lock itself by the time someone who had
issues with mobility was able to reach the door handle and open the door. This could be fixed by
increasing the amount of time the door remains unlocked after scanning the key fob or by
moving the key fob scanner closer to the door handle. I also noticed that if someone is trying to
enter the leasing office, the door is incredibly difficult to open even for people who do not have any
accessibility issues. The leasing office door needs to be replaced with a

The Great Awakening Research Paper
The main outcome of the Awakening was a resistance in contrast to spiritual law which leaked into
different zones of colonial life. In spite of the fact that a religious development, the Awakening had
ramifications in social and political circles also. Traditions of thoughtfulness and obligingness, the
overseeing standards of life in the colonies, were put aside for a more difficult stage. The Great
Awakening is generally partitioned into four times of American history. The initially happened
while America was still a part of the English settlements. Such religious masterminds as Jonathan

Pros And Cons Of Health Information Exchange (HIE)
Health information exchange (HIE) is the ability for patients health information to be shared
electronically while the precision of the information is assured. There are two models of HIE:
centralized model and decentralized or federated model (LaTour, Eichenwald Maki, Oachs, 2013, p.
221). In centralized model, patients medical information is stored in one single data warehouse and
is managed by representative from different healthcare organizations. Patients information will be
submitted regularly into the data warehouse and all participated organizations can view the data
externally by query requests. In this model, the results of the queries are returned faster than
decentralized model. The disadvantages of this model are the information ownership is hard to be
established and information accuracy and updating are not easy to be maintained (LaTour,
Eichenwald Maki, Oachs, 2013,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
HIE provides full patients medical information to different providers, which helps to avoid
unfavorable errors, especially when patients are new to the practices or need treatment when
travelling. HIE increases the efficiency of cares by eliminating the needs for extra paper works,
missing information, or duplicate of test orders. In addition, HIE enables providers to access
patients assessment plans from other providers notes, which help them to have overviews and
choose the right treatment options. HIE also plays a big part in improving public health monitoring
and reporting. HIE ensures that all healthcare professionals, who involve in patients cares, can
obtain the same information, which allows healthcare professionals to spend more time with
patients regarding their treatments instead of finding information about their medical histories. HIE
has the capability of decreasing costs and increasing patients health outcomes (HealthcareIT.gov,

Praise Song for the Day
Praise Song For The Day
November 26, 2012
This poem, Praise Song for the Day by Elizabeth Alexander, is one of the most memorable poems
that have been recited within the last 20 years. Immediately after President Obama was sworn into
office, Elizabeth Alexander recited her poem to the masses that had gathered on that cold winter
day in January. The piece is full of symbolism, with the tone being hopeful, inspiring and thankful.
The poem begins with a description of daily life which is filled with the daily grind of hard
working individuals, often doing the work that drives this great nation of ours...small businesses,
blue collar laborers, honorable professions such as teaching.
The possibility of coming together as a people in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The religious belief systems of different peoples that allow us to get along with other peoples
differ in degree. The poem presents an even stronger concept of love that goes beyond Love thy
neighbor as thy self , and even beyond marital, filial, national. Some believe the way to unity is to
avoid being selfish, not hurting others, and treating others as you would your compatriots, your
kin, or yourself. This poem suggests there is a love that extends beyond those whom we are
familiar with to include a widening pool of light.
Finally, in relation to the present day, there is a sense of the immense possibilities ( anything can be
made, any sentence begun ). This is contained in the words that may inspire others to action that
may bring such a love closer toward reality. From disunity ( walking past each other ) to blindly
walk[ing] into that which we cannot yet see, this poem now suggests the alternative of walking
forward in that light guided by a new vision of a love that may unite us.
I focused on the symbolic element of the poem, because I liked the presentation and how it
flowed. It made me think about how far we ve come in this country. I believe that Elizabeth draws
the reader into the poem just I was drawn, by suggesting that we as a nation that was literally built

Have decided to explore how Bolt uses the Common Man to emphasise the features of the major characters The significance of the Common Man in A Man For All Seasons. ============================================================== I have decided to explore how Bolt uses the Common Man to emphasise the features of the major characters and to illustrate the main themes of the play. I will also explore the role the common man plays in the structure of the play and his effect on the audience. The Common Man is the only character who speaks directly to the audience, which I think is important as it means they can feel part of the play: there is interaction between the audience and actors. This communication may increase the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Common Man s comments on the characters may also raise moral issues amongst the audience. For example, the Common Man remarks on More s wilful indifference to realities. In one sense the audience may agree with this as they may feel More does not take a very realistic approach to government. This is illustrated in scene two, when More and Wosley are discussing the divorce, they may feel that Thomas s ideal to govern the country by prayer is not very practical. Wosley: you d like that wouldn t you? To govern the country by prayer? More: Yes I should However, others may disagree with the Common Man and think that More is realistic in judgement. For example, he ensures his family does not know any information they could be asked about in court, to make sure they stay out of danger. Therefore the common man is significant in the sense that his commentary has an effect on the audience: his judgements may cause the audience to ask themselves if Thomas More deserves the title A Man For All Seasons? Because this play deals with events that actually occurred (eg: the reformation of the church) and people who actually lived, the common man plays a significant role in telling us the real events of the time, which relate to the plot. For his 1996 Hamlet adaptation, Branagh chose a very different style from the predominantly dark and moody medieval settings of previous stage and film productions. Crowl describes the film as a bright, bold mirror in stunning contrast to Olivier s dark impressionist maze. (28). Presper Eckert at University of Pennsylvania, U.S. ENIAC was a modular computer, collected of separate panels to perform different functions. Twenty of these parts were accumulators, which could not only add and subtract but hold a ten digit decimal number in memory. Numbers were passed between these units across several general purpose buses. In order to achieve its high speed, the panels had to send and receive numbers, save the answer and produce the next operation, all without any moving parts. Key to its usefulness was the ability to branch; it could produce different operations, depending on the sign of a computed result. ENIAC contained 17,468 vacuum tubes, 7200 crystal diodes, 1500 relays, 70,000 resistors, 10,000 capacitors and about 5,000,000 hand soldered joints. It weighed more than 30 tons, was roughly 2.4m Г— 0.9m Г— 30m in size, and consumed 150 kW of electricity. After the election of Abraham Lincoln in 1860, the Southern states had a major conflict with Lincoln becoming president and seven slave states succeeded from the Union and made the Confederate States of America. The Union refused to recognize the southern states in that way. Lincoln declared these acts to be illegal and asked Congress for 500,000 soldiers to conquer what was threatened to be an ... Women were not as praised as men to fight the war and because of that it helped women become undetected as spies. Men would go to dinner parties at women s houses and the women would secretly gather information and hid it in their hoop skirts. When giving messages to their side, some spies would code them or write in invisible ink, using letters and numbers. The messages usually contained enemy plans and movements, their supplies, troop size, and where their forts were. Messages and contraband were usually hid in their clothing or large metal buttons. Medical supplies were one of the most important things to smuggle over enemy lines. The Confederate hospitals were in dire need of supplies. Emeline Pigott was a Confederate spy from North Carolina who gathered military information by entertaining Union officials at dinner parties in her own home. She hid critical papers and smuggled, ammunition and medicine in the crease of her bulky skirts, which she later gave to the local rebels. She strived to help the Confederate cause. • 8. Analysis Of Lucky By Alice Sebold Summary Lucky by Alice Sebold s is a memoir in which she speaks about her traumatic experience that she went through during her freshman year at Syracuse University in New York. Alice was beaten and raped one night when she was walking alone back to her dorm. A black male grabbed her from behind with a knife and told her that he would kill her if she screamed. The black male took Alice into a tunnel where he beat her up and forced her to perform oral sex on him. Alice was still a virgin prior to the rape. After the black male raped Alice, he showed feelings of remorse, he helped Alice put her clothes back on. Alice lied and told him that it was okay and that she forgave him. Alice reports the incident to the police and the officer tells Alice that she should consider herself lucky because a girl had been killed in the same place where she was raped. The rape took a toll on Alice because she seemed to pretend like it was okay when it was not. She started seeing everything differently, every black male she came across she would be reminded of her rapist. Alice also experienced trouble in relationships with men because she did not consider herself to be worthy of any good guy because no guy would want her since she was a rape victim. Alice expressed anger towards her rapist when she runs into him again one afternoon and he approaches her and says that she looked familiar. Alice speaks about wanting to kill her rapist. It s the part many people have yet to learn about. For years, Columbus has been presented to us as a hero. In 1934, President Roosevelt even gave Columbus his own holiday. To this day, we celebrate his discovery of America. REASONS FOR HIM NOT BEEN A HERO Columbus gets a lot of credit for discovering land that already had people living on it, a land that has already been encountered by other people way before Columbus was even born. In 70,000 to 12,000 B.C. Siberia explorers sailed to Alaska. In 10,000 600 B.C., Siberians also went to Canada and the state we now call New Mexico. A little more recently the Vikings in 1000 1350 came from Greenland and Iceland. They traveled to Labrado, Baffin Land, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Cape Cod and further south. Around 1311 and 1460 explorers from West Africa came across to Haiti, Panama, and Brazil (Loewen 48). These were only a few of the many encounters of the Americas. A result of these explorations was the establishment of Indian villages and the life they began to lead. The fact that Columbus didn t actually discover America isn t the idea that is most disturbing when considering misleading history that children are taught. This genetic disorder is known to be an example of the norm of reaction. The norm of reaction defines itself as a phenotype range that a person with a certain genotype reveals due to the differing of a certain environmental condition. Since this genetic mutation targeted the genethat encrypts the enzyme phenylalanine hydroxylase, it shows that if a person has one and/or two copies of that certain gene, that person would have the ability to eat and metabolize foods with phenylalanine. But, if a person has two copies of the mutated gene, they wouldn t be able to eat nor metabolize foods with phenylalanine because if a person with PKU were to ingest foods with phenylalanine, the amino acid will accumulate in their body and become highly toxic to the person and the PKU homozygotes will lead to an assortment of detrimental symptoms, which currently occurs in about 1 in 10,000 babies.... • 22. The Argumensos Of Mario Savio s Free Speech Movement On December 2nd, 1964, Mario Savio delivered his most famous speech on the steps of Sproul Hall on the campus of UC Berkeley. His address, most famously known for it s passage on The Operation of the Machine , called university students and TAs to participate in civil disobedience in order to disrupt parts of the university s functioning. This effort was to show the administration that the students were autonomous human beings, and not raw material to be bought by some client of the University. The conflict between the administration and the students began with the banning of the designated free speech area on campus. Students began to move closer to the heart of campus in protest, setting up tables for organizations like FSM (the Free Speech Movement) in Sproul Plaza. These actions resulted in the indefinite suspensions of Mario Savioand seven other students. In an incident in which student protesters surrounded a police car and gave speeches atop it, the President of the university, Clark Kerr, began negotiations with Savio and the students. However, Kerr shot down the FSM s proposal for a committee, and tensions between the FSM and the administration increased over the next month. FSM began to have rallies on the steps of Sproul Hall every day at noon in order to put pressure on the administration to grant them their terms on the return of free speech areas. On December 2nd at one of these rallies, Mario Savio delivered his speech. The most memorable lines were as follows: There is a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart, that you can t take part; you can t even passively take part, and you ve got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus and you ve got to make it stop! And you ve got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it, that unless you re free, the machine will be prevented from working at all! (2). • 23. Nt1310 Unit 3 Assignment Effect Semiconductor Nano crystals or quantum dots are materials that are typically 2 20 nm in diameter, consisting of approximately twelve to fourteen thousand atoms. The effect of quantum confinement results, in the electrons and holes in the Nano crystal to exhibit quantized energy states; thus enabling them to exhibit novel physical properties that are not found in their bulk counterparts. Research in semiconductorquantum dots started with the realization that the optical and electronic properties of these particles were strongly dependent on particle size, due to quantum confinement of the charge carriers in small spaces. 1.2 Quantum Confinement Effect This concept can be explained using the term band gap, a property that is characteristic of semiconductors. The band gap can be defined as the difference in energy between the valence and conduction band and is typically in the range of 1 3 eV for semiconductors. In bulk materials the energy bands are a continuum of energy levels arising from the overlapping of the atomic orbital s due to the large number of molecules. When a semiconductor is brought to the Nano scale, containing lesser number of molecules, the quantized energy levels become distinct. Thus the addition or removal of atoms significantly changes the energy levels within the band making the band gap size dependent. Figure 1: A Schematic diagram of the energy... LAN is a type of network that interconnects computers and devices either wired or wireless and covers a greater distance. LAN is mainly used in private organisations such as college or university. More or less everyone uses wireless router at home these days and the user is able to connect between 5 10 devices wirelessly. The user can share the broadband or the connection with ADSL by using Ethernet cables. Smaller LANs can connect at least 2 3 computers using one cable. It also depends on the size of the organisation. Smaller LANs are easier to manage. The users need to be careful when using larger LANs and need to make sure that the network within it is transmitted efficiently. The user can increase the number of computers connected by using routers and switches. This ensures that the network administrator has higher level of control over the network. IEEE 802.3 is the wired Ethernet used by LAN and therefore it is related to LAN. The set up cost for LAN is relatively cheap. WAN stands for Wide Area Network. Give care to an explication of economic and immanent trinity, and perichoresis. In order to explain what it means to confess that God is triune, Migliore explains the origin of our confession as well as the implications of a God who is three in one. In the following essay, I will give an account of Migliore s description of how and why we confess the trinity before describing the three interpretive statements Migliore offers to us in an attempt to explain the triune God in depth. Migliore defines the Christian confession of God as triune as a summary description of the witness of Scripture to God s unfathomable love incarnate in Jesus Christ and experienced and celebrated in the community of faith (Migliore 67). He is quick to explain that the doctrine of the Trinity is not a revealed doctrine...[because it] did not descend miraculously from heaven, nor was it written by God on tablets of stone ; rather it is the product of the meditation and reflection of the church on the gospel message over many centuries (67). In ВЁThe Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras CountyВЁ by Mark Twain, the narrator takes readers through first hand accounts of Simon Wheeler s story. Wheeler, a taverner, tells a tedious story about a gambling man named Jim Smiley and the many animals he places bets on. From the story, we can infer that Simon Wheeler s traits represent the stereotypical country lifestyle. The country lifestyle is exuded in Simon s traits of being friendly, good hearted, uneducated, and talkative. Simon Wheeler s friendly actions help paint the picture of the country lifestyle he embodies. SimonВґs friendly nature can be observed when Mr. Wheeler greets the narrator ... According to Pearl Harbor and the Coming of the Pacific War, the Japanese completed its control in Manchuria in 1932, then invaded China five years later. In the map created by various sources, the Japanese empire more than tripled its size after expansion through Manchuria in China. Japan established Manchuria as a puppet state, and held it as a reservoir for food resources, or a paddy field. To support a larger empire, its growing military, and an increase in naval power, the Japanese needed more and more oil. Unfortunately, Japan only owned a few oil reserves and produced very little of its own oil. They bought most of their oil from the United States. In fact, according to Suzuki Akira, US Economic Sanctions Against Japan and its Aid to China during the Sino Japanese War , 80 percent of Japan s 12,170,000 tons of oil was imported from the United States from 1937 1939. However, after tensions mounted between the United States and Japan, the amount of oil exported from US to Japan decreased dramatically, from 2,910,000 tons in 1940 to 880,000 tons in 1941, a 330 percent decrease in oil imports from the US. Tensions continued rising when Japan announced that they will establish new order , or the Japanese Empire in East Asia. Without formal training in artillery tactics or a proper armament of artillery pieces, early units had to overcome adversity and hardship. Aristotle once said, Criticism is something we can avoid easily by saying nothing, doing nothing, and being nothing. But I beg to disagree because people will criticize you for saying nothing, doing nothing and being nothing. Someone once said, Criticism is the muck in which the plants of the Lord grow strong and no child of God should fear Criticism. Criticism has the potential to help believers in their spiritual growth? Listen to what Frank Clark an American politician from the early 1900s said, Criticism, like rain, should be gentle enough to nourish a man s growth without destroying his roots. Criticism comes in two forms, destructive and constructive. They are both self explanatory. Nevertheless, destructive criticism has the potential for spiritual growth but that would depend on the receiver. Destructive criticism can make us look inwardly ask the deep question, is it true of me. If the criticism levied is true, then do what needs to be done to correct it. If the criticism is malicious then ignore it and make sure you do not give your critics ammunition to prove their point. I would admit that criticism is not always easy to handle.
