which can lead to events such as stroke, heart attack

Clopivas tablets manufactured by Cipla Ltd.,
is a platelet inhibitor and used to prevent
blood clots in coronary artery disease,
peripheral vascular disease, and
cerebrovascular disease.
Clopivas (Clopidogrel Bisulfate Tablets) is
used to treat patients with Acute coronary
syndrome (unstable angina (UA)/non-ST-
segment elevation ACS (NSTEMI)& ST-
elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) ),
recent myocardial infarction (MI), recent
stroke, or established peripheral arterial
disease.

Clopivas (Clopidogrel Bisulfate Tablets)
have to be stored at controlled room
temperature i.e. 25°C (68°F ) with
excursions permitted between 15° to
30°C (59° to 86°F).
Keep this as well as all other medicines
away from children and pets.

The annual incidence of hemorrhage may be
increased by the co-administration of aspirin.
use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs is
discouraged in those taking clopidogrel due to
increased risk of digestive tract hemorrhage
CYP2C19 inhibitors: Avoid concomitant use of
omeprazole or esomeprazole.
Bleeding: Plavix increases risk of bleeding.
Discontinuation: Premature discontinuation
increases risk of cardiovascular events.
Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) has
been reported.
Cross-reactivity among thienopyridines has been
reported

Thienopyridines, including Clopidogrel, increase the
risk of bleeding. If a patient is to undergo surgery
and an antiplatelet effect is not desired, discontinue
Clopivas (Clopidogrel Bisulfate Tablets) five days
prior to surgery that has a major risk of bleeding.
In cases of confirmed isolated activated partial
thromboplastin time (aPTT) prolongation with or
without bleeding, acquired hemophilia should be
considered.
Hypersensitivity, including rash, angioedema or
hematologic reaction, has been reported in patients
receiving clopidogrel, including patients with a
history of hypersensitivity or hematologic reaction to
other thienopyridines.

➢ Acute coronary syndrome - Non-ST-
segment elevation ACS (UA/NSTEMI): 300 mg
loading dose followed by 75 mg once daily, in
combination with aspirin (75-325 mg once
daily)
➢ Acute coronary syndrome - STEMI: 75 mg
once daily, in combination with aspirin (75-325
mg once daily), with or without a loading dose
and with or without thrombolytics
➢ Recent MI, recent stroke, or established
peripheral arterial disease: 75 mg once daily

Contraindications
Clopivas is contraindicated in patients with a
hypersensitivity to or any other component of
this medication.
This medicine is also contraindicated in patients
that have active pathological bleeding, such as
peptic ulcer or intracranial hemorrhage.
Also contraindicated in cases of Severe liver
impairment.

12. Clopidogrel Side Effects

➢Bleeding, including life-threatening and fatal
bleeding, is the most commonly reported side
effect of Clopivas (Clopidogrel Tablets).
➢ Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (TTP),
sometimes fatal, has been reported following
use of Clopidogrel Tablets, sometimes after a
short duration.

Overdose following Clopivas (Clopidogrel
Tablets) administration can lead to
prolonged bleeding time and subsequent
bleeding complications.

Appropriate therapy must be considered if
bleedings are observed due to Clopivas
(Clopidogrel Tablets) overdose.
No antidote to the pharmacological activity
of Clopidogrel has been found.
In case a fast correction of prolonged
bleeding time is necessary, platelet
transfusion may reverse the effects of
Clopidogrel tablets.

15. Clopidogrel During Pregnancy

Clopidogrel (Clopivas Tablets) has been
classified by the US FDA as Pregnancy
Category B.
Controlled studies reproduction studies
performed in animals revealed no evidence
of impaired fertility or fetotoxicity due to
Clopidogrel. However, no adequate and
well-controlled studies with Clopidogrel
have been conducted in pregnant women.
Since animal reproduction studies are not
always predictive of a human response,
Clopivas should be used during pregnancy
only if clearly required.
