Asthalin Tablets by Cipla (Generic Albuterol Sulphate Tablets)

Asthalin Tablets (Generic Albuterol Sulphate Tablets) belongs to
the group of medicines known as short acting beta2-adrenergic
agonist. Asthalin Tablets (Generic Salbutamol Sulphate) are used
for the treatment of bronchospasm in asthma, chronic bronchitis,
emphysema and other conditions associated with airways
obstruction, for prevention of asthma attack triggered by allergic
exposure or exercise and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Albuterol belongs to the family of medicines known as adrenergic
bronchodilators. Adrenergic bronchodilators are medicines that
open up the bronchial tubes (air passages) in the lungs, thus
making breathing easier. They relieve cough, wheezing, shortness
of breath, and troubled breathing by increasing the flow of air
through the bronchial tubes.

Active Ingredient
The active ingredient contained in
in Asthalin tablets is Albuterol
Sulfate (Salbutamol Sulphate).
Each Asthalin tablet contains
Salbutamol Sulphate IP
equivalent to Salbutamol IP 2 mg
and 4 mg respectively.

Albuterol Sulphate Tablets – Brand Names
Albuterol Sulphate tablets are available
as Ventolin, Asthalin, Bronko Tab,
Asmanil, Asthacure, Ventryl, Asthacure
and Salbetol.

Uses of Asthalin Tablets
Asthalin (Generic Albuterol Sulphate Tablets) is a selective beta-2
adrenoceptor agonist indicated for the treatment or prevention of
bronchospasm.
It provides short acting bronchodilation in reversible airways obstruction
due to asthma, chronic bronchitis and emphysema.
Bronchodilators should not be the only or main treatment in patients with
persistent asthma. In patients with persistent asthma unresponsive to
Asthalin, treatment with inhaled corticosteroids is recommended to
achieve and maintain control. Failing to respond to treatment with
Asthalin may signal a need for urgent medical advice or treatment.
Asthalin tablets are indicated for the relief of bronchospasm in bronchial
asthma of all types, chronic bronchitis and emphysema.

Asthalin Tablets Dosage
The dosage of Asthalin tablets (Generic Albuterol Sulphate
tablets) is given below:
Adults and Children Over 12 Years of Age: The usual starting
dosage for adults and children 12 years and older is 2 or 4 mg
three or four times a day.
Children 6 to 12 Years of Age: The usual starting dosage for
children 6 to 12 years of age is 2 mg three or four times a day.

Contraindications
Asthalin tablets are contraindicated in patients with a
hypersensitivity to Albuterol Sulphate (Salbutamol Sulphate) or
any other component of this medication.

Storage Instructions
Asthalin Tablets (Generic Albuterol
Sulphate Tablets) have to be stored at
controlled room temperature i.e. from
20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F) with excursions
permitted between 15° to 30°C (59° to
86°F).
Keep this as well as all other medicines
away from children and pets.

Warnings
Paradoxical Bronchospasm: Albuterol tablets can produce paradoxical
bronchospasm, which can be life threatening. In case paradoxical
bronchospasm occurs, Asthalin tablets must be discontinued
immediately and alternative therapy instituted.
Cardiovascular Effects: Albuterol tablets, like all other beta-adrenergic
agonists, can produce a clinically significant cardiovascular effect in
certain patients as measured by pulse rate, blood pressure, and/or
symptoms. Although such effects are uncommon after administration
of Asthalin tablets at recommended doses, in case they occur, the
medication may need to be discontinued.

Warnings
Deterioration of Asthma: Asthma may deteriorate acutely over a period
of hours or chronically over several days or longer. In case the patient
needs more doses of Generic Albuterol Tablets (Asthalin Tablets) than
normal, this may be a marker of destabilization of asthma and requires
reevaluation of the patient and treatment regimen.
Use of Anti-Inflammatory Agents: The use of beta-adrenergic agonist
bronchodilators alone may not be adequate to control asthma in many
patients.
Immediate Hypersensitivity Reactions: Immediate hypersensitivity
reactions may occur after administration of Albuterol, as observed by
rare cases of urticaria, angioedema, rash, bronchospasm, and
oropharyngeal edema.

Asthalin Tablets and Alcohol
The risks associated with alcohol consumption and Asthalin Tablets
(Generic Albuterol Sulphate Tablets) intake are low if these are kept to
reasonable levels. The main risks of consuming alcohol in conjunction
with Ventolin come in the case of Asthalin Tablets overdosing. The use
of alcohol can worsen a Asthalin Tablets overdose by aggravating its
effects.
This drug may make you dizzy. Alcohol can make you more dizzy. Do
not drive, use machinery, or do anything that needs alertness until you
can do it safely. Limit alcoholic beverages.

Asthalin Tablets Side Effects
Immune System Disorders:
Very rare: Hypersensitivity reactions including angioedema, urticaria,
bronchospasm, hypotension and collapse.
Metabolism And Nutrition Disorders:
Rare: Hypokalaemia. Potentially serious hypokalaemia may result
from beta-2 agonist therapy.
Nervous System Disorders:
Very common: Tremor.
Common: Headache.
Very rare: Hyperactivity.

Asthalin Tablets Side Effects
Cardiac Disorders:
Common: Tachycardia, palpitations.
Uncommon: (Obstetric indications) Myocardial ischaemia, observed in
the management of pre-term labour with salbutamol injection
/solution for infusion.
Rare: Cardiac arrhythmias including atrial fibrillation, supraventricular
tachycardia and extrasystoles.
Vascular Disorders:
Rare: Peripheral vasodilatation.
Musculoskeletal And Connective Tissue Disorders:
Common: Muscle cramps.
Very rare: Feeling of muscle tension.

Asthalin Tablets Overdose
The most common signs and symptoms of overdose with Albuterol Sulphate
tablets (Salbutamol Sulphate tablets) are transient beta agonist
pharmacologically mediated events, including tachycardia, tremor,
hyperactivity and metabolic effects including hypokalaemia.
Hypokalaemia may occur following overdose with Albuterol Sulphate tablets
(Asthalin tablets). Serum potassium levels should be monitored.
Lactic acidosis has been reported in association with high therapeutic doses as
well as overdoses of short-acting beta-agonist therapy, therefore monitoring
for elevated serum lactate and consequent metabolic acidosis (particularly if
there is persistence or worsening of tachypnea despite resolution of other
signs of bronchospasm such as wheezing) may be indicated in the setting of
overdose.
Nausea, vomiting and hyperglycaemia have been reported, predominantly in
children and when Albuterol overdose has been taken via the oral route.

Asthalin Tablets Overdose
Treatment for Albuterol Sulphate (Salbutamol Sulphate tablets)
overdose consists of discontinuation of Albuterol Sulphate tablets
(Asthalin tablets) together with appropriate symptomatic therapy.
The judicious use of a cardioselective beta-receptor blocker may
be considered, bearing in mind that such medication can produce
bronchospasm.
There is insufficient evidence to determine if dialysis is beneficial for
overdosage of Albuterol tablets.

Asthalin Tablets During Pregnancy
Albuterol Sulphate tablets (Asthalin tablets) has been
classified by the US FDA as Pregnancy Category C.
Albuterol has been shown to be teratogenic in mice.
There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women.
Because animal reproduction studies are not always predictive of human
response, Albuterol should be used during pregnancy only if the
potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.
During worldwide marketing experience, various congenital
anomalies, including cleft palate and limb defects, have been
reported in the offspring of patients being treated with Albuterol.

Asthalin Tablets During Nursing
As Albuterol (Asthalin Tablets) is probably secreted in
breast milk its use in nursing mothers is not
recommended unless the expected benefits outweigh
any potential risk.
It is not known whether Albuterol (Salbutamol) in breast
milk has a harmful effect on the neonate.
