Can there be a city with no landfill? Indeed this is a dream to come true. This presentation provides a tool box of strategies that we could consider to move towards this aspiration. There are not many options left - landfills one day will have to be built on the Moon!!

Circular Economy policy aims for increasing the value of products and raw materials by decreasing the waste production. To change the conventional use of products and its effect on the environment, the circular economy policy should be adopted by governments and even private sectors.
Urban Municipal Solid Waste Management (MSW) Commercial and Domestic Wastes, ...Ajjay Kumar Gupta
Due to rapid increase in the production and consumption processes, societies generate as well as reject solid materials regularly from various sectors – agricultural, commercial, domestic, industrial and institutional. The considerable volume of wastes thus generated and rejected is called solid wastes. In other words, solid wastes are the wastes arising from human and animal activities that are normally solid and are discarded as useless or unwanted. This inevitably places an enormous strain on natural resources and seriously undermines efficient and sustainable development. One of the ways to salvage the situation is through efficient management of solid wastes.
There has been a significant increase in MSW (Municipal Solid Waste) generation in India in the last few decades. This is largely because of rapid population growth and economic development in the country. Solid waste management has become a major environmental issue in India .

Effect of age and seasonal variations on leachate characteristics of municipa...eSAT Journals
Abstract The paper discusses the effect of age and seasonal variations on leachate characteristics of leachate generated from municipal solid waste (MSW) landfill site of Ludhiana City, Punjab (India). Leachate samples were collected and analyzed for various physico-chemical parameters to estimate its pollution potential. MSW landfill site is non-engineered low lying open dump. It has neither any bottom liner nor any leachate collection and treatment system. Therefore, all the leachate generated finds its paths into the surrounding environment. The landfill site is not equipped with any leachate collectors. Leachate samples were collected from the base of solid waste heaps where the leachate was drained out by gravity. It has been found that leachate contains high concentrations of organic and inorganic constituents beyond the permissible limits. While, heavy metals concentration was in trace amount as the waste is domestic in nature. The data presented in this study indicated that with the passage of time and with seasonal variations particularly during rainy season values of various parameters increased, reason being with time the solid waste material degraded and the waste constituents percolated down along with rainwater. Thus, the age and seasonal variations has a significant effect on leachate composition. Indiscriminate dumping of MSW without proper solid waste management practices should be stopped or some remedial measures were required to be adopted to prevent contamination. A case study on characteristics of solid waste & leachate treatment of ok...eSAT Journals
Abstract
Delhi is the most densely populated and urbanized city of India. The annual growth rate in population during the last decade was almost double the national average. Delhi is also a commercial hub, providing employment opportunities and accelerating the pace of urbanization, resulting in a corresponding increase in municipal solid waste (MSW) generation. Presently Delhi generating about 6500 tonnes/day of MSW out of which only 70-75% wastes are able to collect by the MSW management authority and rest amount of wastes are not possible to collect for the habit of people to thrown the wastes in empty places. At present three main landfill sites of Delhi are Bhalaswa at north Delhi, Ghazipur at east Delhi, and Okhla at south Delhi. But not a single landfill are sanitary landfill rather wastes are dumping crudely as a heap of wastes in open landfill. As a result the leachate generated due to percolation of rain water and squeezing of wastes itself posing a great threat in the surrounding soil structure of the landfill. Around the periphery of landfill, soils gets highly contaminated and toxic and degraded it’s essential nutrients [4,6]. In this paper a case study on characteristics of solid wastes of Okhla landfill and performance of it’s leachate treatment is carried out for future planning and proper management of soil structure around the periphery of landfill site.

E-waste management, also known as electronic waste management or WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) management, refers to the processes and strategies implemented to handle, recycle, and dispose of electronic and electrical equipment that has reached the end of its useful life. This category of waste includes a wide range of devices and appliances powered by electricity, such as computers, smartphones, televisions, refrigerators, washing machines, and more. E-waste management is crucial due to the increasing volume of electronic waste generated globally and the environmental and health hazards associated with improper disposal.
Here's a detailed description of e-waste management:
Collection: The first step in e-waste management is the collection of discarded electronic equipment. This can be done through various channels, including dedicated e-waste collection centers, drop-off points, recycling events, and even through authorized electronic retailers who take back old devices.
Sorting and Segregation: Once collected, the e-waste is sorted into different categories based on the type of equipment and its potential for recycling or disposal. Items like batteries, printed circuit boards (PCBs), plastics, and precious metals are typically separated during this process.
Data Destruction: Before recycling or disposing of electronic devices, data security is a critical concern. Data stored on hard drives, memory cards, and other storage media must be securely wiped or destroyed to prevent sensitive information from falling into the wrong hands.
Recycling: Recycling is a key component of e-waste management. Components like metals (copper, aluminum, gold, etc.), plastics, and glass can often be extracted and reused. Recycling not only conserves resources but also reduces the energy and environmental impact associated with mining and manufacturing new materials.
Disposal: Some components of e-waste may not be recyclable or economically viable to recycle. In such cases, safe disposal methods are employed to prevent environmental contamination. Specialized disposal facilities, often designed to minimize environmental impact, handle the disposal of hazardous components.
Regulations and Compliance: Many countries have established regulations and guidelines for the proper management of e-waste. These regulations often dictate how manufacturers, retailers, and consumers should handle electronic waste, including recycling targets and reporting requirements.
Here is brief presentation as NAMA Practitioner who is requesting endorsement from Government of India to write Sustainability Program for the country. Nationally appropriate mitigating Actions program is developed by UN and special training awarded on how to use tools and contribute to host country.
Being responsible human being, thought of sharing Atmanirbahar program for country where self reliance can change climate change issue in very short time.
Host country endorsement is needed to register Atmanirbhar program on UN platform. Once registered the process flow is pretty simple and will definitely deliver results. I have been trying for 6 Years to get endorsement but its falling on deaf ears.

Do you think that the lifestyle of the inhabitants of your town or city reflects behavior that is in line with the concept of sustainable development? In your opinion, what should be improved?
We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.
The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.
